Episode 79: Let's Set Some Goals

In this year-end episode, the host reflects on the importance of setting goals as the new year arrives. He acknowledges the cliché nature of New Year's resolutions but shares his own plans for personal growth and for the podcast. A central theme is physical fitness for performers: while acrobats and hand balancers require intense conditioning, even jugglers, clowns, singers, and dancers need endurance to keep their energy high on stage. His personal goal is not a specific weight or muscle gain but simply becoming more active so he can control his breathing and avoid exhaustion during performances. He also emphasizes authenticity and rawness, wanting to bring more of his real self to the show. Locally, he hopes to connect with variety acts—jugglers, hula hoop artists, acrobats, and circus-style performers—to create some kind of street circus or community. He plans to engage more with the Being On Stage Facebook group, offer more trainings, and share helpful social media tools. He invites feedback, calling it a gift, and provides his email and social media handles. He closes by wishing everyone a happy and safe new year and encouraging listeners to set realistic, authentic goals and keep shining.

Speaker 1Hey, rock stars, welcome back. It is almost the new year. It's the last day of the year, as a matter of fact, and I had to get in one last podcast to round out the year. By the time some of you are listening to this, it's probably 2019, so happy new year. I hope you had a grand old time, and I hope you stayed safe, as always. But listen, getting right into it, you know, with the new year upon us, and even if it's after the new year, even if you're listening to this in, like, February or March or whenever, you know, one thing I've been thinking about a lot lately is setting goals. And yeah, yeah, I know, I know. This is the time of year when everyone's setting goals, everyone's setting resolutions, things we're going to do next year, things we're going to do to change ourselves and be different and do new things and get in shape and all that stuff. And yeah, so this episode's probably a little bit cheesy, a little bit corny, but I want to share some things that I have going on that I want to do with the podcast. And I also, you know, I welcome the feedback. I'm always up for a good chat, some good feedback, everything like this. Someone once told me, feedback is a gift. So if you want to send me a gift of some feedback, I'd greatly appreciate it. You can do so at reggieatbeingonstage.com. So, setting goals. You know, as performers, as entertainers, we have to continue to grow and continue to work and work and work. And in a lot of instances, getting in shape or being in shape is a big part. And it's a big part of being able to do what it is we do. And your version of in shape does not have to be the same as everybody else's, you know, depending on what you do. Of course, you know, your acrobats and, you know, your trapeze artists, your acrobats, your hand balancers, people like that, they have to be really in shape for what they do. And then you have, you know, like jugglers, everyone, jugglers, unicyclists, clowns, you still got to be in shape. You've got to have that endurance to keep the energy up. And to keep the audience going. Singers, dancers, same thing. You know, we all have our different ways of being in shape. Me, personally, not in shape. Not in shape remotely for what I want to do. I want to emcee. Yeah, I can talk. I can sit at a desk and talk. But, yeah, you know, I do get a little winded walking around outside talking to everybody. So, one of my goals, and I hope one of your goals, even if you haven't done so already, is to at least be more active. You know, I'm not looking to be a certain weight. I'm not looking to gain all the muscle. I'm not looking to be a CrossFit thing in the past. I tried to do the insane, like, shred and, you know, I've tried all that. And, truthfully, what I want right now is I just want to be a little more active so that I can control my breathing, I can be as high-energy as I want to be, and I'm not going to die sweating after, you know, a half an hour of exerting myself on stage. So, that's one of my goals. And, listen, this is not a fitness podcast. I'm in no way giving anyone any fitness advice. of a, of a selfish, uh, ego, if you will, like a little bit of selfishness to us, that's, that's kind of what, what enables us to get on stage is we got to have that little bit of selfishness of, it is going to be all about me for the next 30 minutes. And so sharing realness and rawness and being authentically me guys. So that's, that's really where most of my goals are. Um, I really want to start something local in my local area as well for performers. Uh, one of the things I want to also do is get out to more events and, and try to seek out other local entertainers, um, more variety acts. Listen guys, singers and musicians are great, but you guys have a lot of opportunities out there. If you're not, if you're not pushing yourself as a singer, a musician, and you're, you know, if you're not getting gigs, that's, that's, that's really on you. Cause you guys have a lot of opportunities. I'm really, I've really been, and this is no offense to you. Like I love singer. I work with singers day in and day out, but what I really want to start locally locally is, you know, I want to get in those more variety acts, juggling hula hoop artists, acrobats, hand balancers, uh, the cry wheel, the German things like, like circus acts almost. And, and I really want to work with those and put together some kind of local, uh, street circus almost. Uh, so I don't know where that's going to go locally. Uh, I don't know where that's going to go locally. Uh, I don't know exactly how that's going to turn out, but I don't know if that's a 2019 goal or just like a long term goal. But, uh, these are just things like rolling around in my head, guys. Like I'm so excited about the things that I can accomplish with being on stage. And I'm so excited about the things that we can accomplish together in the being on stage group on Facebook. Uh, that's part of my other goal is, you know, I gotta, I gotta get into that group more. I gotta do more trainings. I gotta show you guys some websites and some tools out there that, yeah, some of you may know about, but I can show you some stuff that is just so phenomenal to use that it's, it's almost un, unreasonable to not have, keep up with social media. Um, so all that more to come guys. So keep on following on social media, Instagram, Twitter is at being on stage, uh, Facebook. I have a page being on stage and you can also join the group, the, the being on stage group. It's a little redundant. I know, but you can get there to the group by going to being on stage. Uh, and I'll see you guys next time. Bye. group. And I'm talking really fast cause I'm getting super, super excited to network with everybody. And I mean, I guess if I could roll up all my resolutions and all my goals for 2019, it's just to do more for you guys, more trainings, more podcasts, and you know, just more like I want to give you more. All right. I guess I got to wrap this one up. Um, happy new year, everybody, please. If you're, you know, if you haven't celebrated new year's yet, and you're actually listening to this before the new year, uh, stay safe tonight. And if you've already listened to it, uh, I hope somebody bailed you out if you got arrested. So happy, happy new year and a happy holidays, everybody. Let's get this year started. Great. Let's set some amazing goals for ourselves. And you know what? Let's work to accomplish those goals. Stay realistic, stay authentic and keep on shining.
