About 4 months after your visit, they were denounced, then deported to the concentration camps put in place by the Nazis. There, the prisoners were forced to work in inhumane conditions. They had almost nothing to eat, and then they were killed with terrible cruelty, sometimes as soon as they arrived. On the eight occupants of the box, one survived. Soon, the father of Anne. But it's horrible. Yes, nearly 6 million Jews were killed by the Nazis, and also the resistance, the Ziggans, the opponents of the regime. It's a particularly dark period in history. And how did we find Anne Franck's newspaper? Did she take it with her when she was arrested? No, it's Mip Ghis, the employee of her father, who hid it in her office at the time of the arrest. There were actually two versions of the newspaper. The one of origin, but also the one she copied by improving it, when she heard the minister say on the radio that the writings would be published. Mip put them back to her father, shortly after his return from the concentration camps, without even reading them. I imagine he chose to publish the second version? No, he did a third one, by cutting a few passages. He certainly wanted to preserve the intimacy of their families. And before that date, do you think he didn't read anything from the newspaper? Not even a little piece? No, nothing. Apart from the passages that Anne accepted from time to time, to read at Hautevois. The most funny passages, without a doubt. He has also declared that by reading his newspaper, an intimate team that he really learned to know his daughter. That, it doesn't surprise me. Parents think they know us well, but we have our secret thoughts. In fact, Granny, do you know why Anne Franck lived in the Netherlands? I thought she was German. Yes, but her parents decided to leave Germany in 1933. The year when Adolf Hitler arrived in power. They hoped to escape the persecution of the Nazi regime. But unfortunately, Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940, and the family of Anne Franck has found itself in danger again. Her father had planned everything, preparing the secret apartment for months, and their escape was rushed when the great sister Dan, at the age of 16, was summoned by the SS. He wanted to send her to a work camp. The SS, what is it already? The mistress spoke to us, but I forgot. They are a little like soldiers and policemen at Hitler's service. They were many and particularly cruel and violent. Oh yes, I remember. And how Anne Franck and the others managed to survive hidden and alone for all this time. They had to feed themselves, take care of themselves. Even if her father surely did not imagine such a long war, he had planned everything in place, and he also took medicines. And especially many people came to help them. People of trust, employees of the company, friends. For example, this famous Mibegis of the part of whom you brought the courses. Is she the one who wrote a word about the little daddy? When Anne Franck's father read it, he immediately made me trust her. Yes, it is her, an extraordinary woman, that I am lucky to know thanks to my travels in the past. She was Catholic and she took a lot of risks to help the Jews. When Anne Franck's family was arrested, Mibegis even tried to give money to employees to free them. She could have stopped at her turn. Has she survived the war? Yes, she even survived until the age of 100 years. She and her husband became famous in the Netherlands for everything they had the courage to do, in the peril of their own lives. It was a little like a super heroine in fact. It's funny that you say that, because she just refused to talk to her like a heroine. She said she had done what people should do. That's all.
