Episode 6: Cinema Crimes & One Angry Neighbour

The transcription features a lively podcast episode where the hosts, Grayson and Verity, start by sharing a hangover from a Wednesday night out, noting a pattern of midweek partying. Verity recounts a confrontation with a neighbor who angrily complained about cardboard boxes she left near the bin room, escalating into a tense intercom argument. The mood lightens as they discuss an upcoming trip to Bali for a friend’s 30th birthday, focusing on relaxation and strict use of bottled water to avoid "Bali belly." The show then moves to "The Culture Catcher," covering movie news: a live-action "Tangled" film is in production, sparking debate about Disney’s live-action remakes. The hosts argue that these remakes face criticism whether they stick closely to the original or deviate, reflecting a lack of fresh ideas in Hollywood. They also lament that modern TV shows are intentionally "dumbed down" for viewers on phones, contrasting this with cinema, where distractions are less tolerated. Verity shares a personal story about a woman at a movie theater who shushed her for whispering, highlighting the tension between enjoying a film and respecting other audience members. The episode blends humor, personal anecdotes, and cultural commentary.

No, I'm just saying Oh shit I scared the shit out of me then - You've got Vodcusoda's heart, that's all. You just owned Vodcusoda's heart. - Did you see the bottle of vodka the next morning? How much was consumed? - I did, I did see that. Is it a one liter bottle of Absolute? - It's a one liter bottle of Absolute and me and Taz. We got Absolute from Vodcus. - And it's now like 400 milliliters of Absolute. - Oh, I don't know, that's actually on my side though. I think it's a little bit last. - A bit last, 315 milliliters. - I think very pretty, pretty pretty. Yeah, what's new with you? Nothing is new with me, really. Just got some a very sporty culture catch up today. You know, a lot has been going on in the sport world, so. - So did I tell you what happened the other day with the person in our building? - No. - So you were out. - I don't know this story. - You don't know the story. - Oh my god, I think you were either at work or you're out having lunch with someone and the doorbell rang. And I was like, who is ringing? And I answered it and all I could see was this torso with a big jacket and no face. And the person wasn't showing their face. And they're like, I wanna speak to someone in apartment 39 immediately. (laughing) - No, no, actually, and I was like, I was like, am I about to be assassinated? - But where 39? - We are 39. Also, I think we need to be part of apartment number out. So we gotta do ourself. - We do the address, which is number apartment 39. - Yeah, anyway, so this guy goes, I'm like, yeah, speaking, he goes, you gonna do anything about these fucking boxes that are sitting down here. 'Cause remember the other day, I cleaned out the storage cage. There's all these empty boxes that I put next to the bin room because the bin room has a fucking padlock on it. You can't actually put it in. So when I saw the building manager a few weeks ago, I said, what do I do with it? He was like, put it next to the door and then we put it in there for you. - Wait, so this bin room, I've never even paid attention to the bin rooms on the ground level at the front? - B1. - B1, when you walk out the lift, there's like the cage on the left. - I've never even paid attention. - Anyway, so there's the cage on the left, so I left that in the street. - And I said to this guy over the end of the comma, I was like, are you part of the management or he goes, no, I live in the building and it's annoying me. - No, I live in the building and it's annoying me. - And I went. - How do you know it was us? - Because on the box has had address labels with my full name on it, the address, the apartment number, and he rang through it, and he was such a fucking cockhead about it. - Oh my god, do we know which way he lit? - No, do we know where he lives? - No, I don't know who he is. I don't really know who he is. - Sorry guys, I just like to smash my face into the mic. - He was standing like chest up. He had like a Columbia jacket on, and I was like, this is-- - Oh, a Colombian flag? - No, no, like Colombia the brand. (laughing) - Colombian, you know they're quite nice. - And he was such a bitch, and the other thing is I was on FaceTime with a friend of mine, and he was even, he was like-- - Oh, I see, yeah. - He was like, he was so fucking rude. The guy was, and he wanted to speak to someone. - I wanted to speak to someone. - Someone in a apartment 39. - Plus, not even a plz. - No plz. - No plz, nothing. And I was like, he was so rude. And I said, yeah, I put it where everybody puts their cardboard boxes. - Did you see the building manager told me, too? - That's what I said, he goes, "Well, a good start mate would be coming right down here right now, and I'm packing them down and moving them the fuck out of here." And I lit you up, I swear to God, Verity. And I said to him, I said, "I've had enough of you now. I'm going, I hope you have a really nice day. Bye." (laughing) And then he rang again. I hung up on him, and he rang again, and I answered, and I said, and I said, what the fuck do you want now? I said, I will come down there. And we will fucking have a conversation. If you keep ringing my fucking apartment, I will get in the lift, and I will come down there. You f***ing, and I'm gonna come down there, and I'm gonna f***ing, and he's like, I did, he hung up on his then. I was like, oh, I have a nice day mate. And like, 'cause I flipped my sh*t at him. - No way. - It was so funny, like no word of a lie. I think I even texted you being like, I just got into it. - I really remember being sent to text whilst I was out getting the, I got into an argument with someone in the building on the doorbell. - Yeah. - And I totally got to respond to it. But now I'm glad I didn't, because the story would have been told to me off off the bottom, maybe I would have never said it. - It was hilarious, 'cause I forgot I had a hue on the phone, 'cause at this point, I was just going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. - I forgot the hues there, just listening to you scream into the doorbell. - Literally me screaming at the wall. - Screaming at the wall, like a crazy person. - Like a crazy person. Oh my God, that's hilarious. - And in positive news, I'm gonna Bali on Monday. - She's going to Bali. You will be setting off to Bali for a lovely how many days? - Seven days. - Seven days, where are you staying? - Or going to our Chang, - Chang, Chang, Chang again. - Chang good. - And a beautiful villa for Jacob's, Jacob Plurse is 30 years old. - Jacob Plurse! - Jacob Plurse is 30 years old. - He's getting 30, please. Oh my God, that's so exciting. - I'm so excited to see you. - Do you guys have anything planned or is it just like, we're literally just drinking, running around? - No, we're not even drinking. It's not a piss up. - Oh okay. - It's not a piss up holiday. It's us sitting by the pool. - Just relax, relax, relax. - Relaxing. I'm gonna be in the little speedo. - Nice. - Get my tan back. - Yeah. - Lay by the pool, sleep, read a book. Gonna have the best time. - Yeah, eat some sartae skewers. - Eat some sartae skewers, please. - Feel good. - Feel good, feel good. Feel good, feel fresh, feel skinny, feel hot, feel tan. - Feel good, don't get no barley belly, please. Don't forget anything pack. Don't forget anything back in bottled water only. - Bottled water only. Barley, you'd think Australians would have like an immunity to barley belly by now. - You'd think, but not the case. - You'd think considering that barley is basically like the fucking seventh state of Australia. - Yeah. - Whatever the fuck I don't know how many states we have in this country. (laughs) I'm gonna say it's the seventh. - But have you noticed with barley every time a group of people that we know go to barley, someone always gets barley belly? And then you ask them, did you use bottled water when you brush your teeth? They're like, no, I'm just using the tap. I'm like, we all know this. - Yes, 100%. - We all know this. - So why are you fucking not doing what you should be doing? - Yeah, it's weird. Like you should be, like I know some people even shower with bottled water. - Okay, that's, like the, you know the big, big bottles. - Oh yeah. - People will use those. - Yeah, like the bubbles are now like hot. They're like, because they don't want to get the, they don't want to get the water in their mouth. They'll literally like, leather their body up and then rinse off with that instead. - That's kind of, kind of, it's a lot. - That's kind of fierce. So can you imagine being like, oh, how do you shower? Evian. - Yeah, literally. - Fiji water. - Boss. - Boss. - How did you shower today? Boss. - Boss. - Boss. - Boss. - Boss. - You know what, I bet your skin would be fabulous if you showered with like, boss or Evian or Fiji water. - Amount Franklin sparkling. - Oh, that would be so great. A pump lemon lime. - Am I going to pump like berry somewhere? - Yeah. - Oh, so that's why he's so good. - Yeah, that's why they smell so good. - We've got a huge show. We've got a very sports culture catcher up today, so you might have to throw in that. - Oh, should we throw in the sports intro? - Throw in the sports intro. - All right, before we do that, we'll do, I'll go over our one movie news. - And then we're gonna throw in the sports intro. - And try, we're gonna get sporty. - Moving news, live action tangled. - Wait, is that a thing? - Yes. - Have you ever, you didn't know about that? - No, I had no clue. - Oh my God, the beginning of this year was like a whole, like they were on a Disney was on a worldwide search to find Rapunzel. - Don't tell me it's a channel. - And Trouble Rider. It's an Australian girl. - Oh, really? - Oh, okay, six. - First Moana. - Yep. - Now Rapunzel, how good. - Oh, fantastic. - Do you reckon they're gonna start doing this with like so many movies, 'cause they've already done it. - They've already done it. What have they live actioned? They've live actioned Alice in Wonderland. - Yep. - Cinderella. - Technically 101 Dimations, but it was Cruella. The Lion King, the Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Snow White. Lady in the tramp. - Wait, did they do a live action lady in the tramp? - Yeah. - Oh, I need to watch that. - The Jungle Book. - Yep. - What else? I know there's more. There's gotta be more. That's nine, there's gotta be more. - You know what would be a tangled? - Moana. - Tangled. - Yeah. - What else? What else? - Imagine Toy Story being a live action. - That'd be terrifying. - You know what would be a really scary live action, I think? Brave. - Yeah. - If you had the chance to change your fit, would you? (laughing) - Monsters Inc wasn't Disney though, right? That was Pixar. - Disney Pixar. - Oh yeah, Pixar. - Yeah, it's the same show. - I don't think they've ever live actioned a Pixar movie. Just Disney movies. - Yeah. - I don't think Pixar would be okay with their live action. - Live action. - Live action. - No Pixar movie. - Did you see the theory? - Did you see the theory about Monsters Inc? You know how there's the sock on his back? And then that's like the, what? - On Sully's back? - On Sully's back? - Remember that's what triggers the whole, there's humans in here, and there's a sock on his back. Do you know what the theory was that now that you watch the movie back and look at it? It's a cum sock. Why? - That's why it's like, danger, hazard, 'cause it was from under the bed. A singular sock from under the bed. - Wait, but I don't know. That's just an inappropriate internet reach. - In a break, I'm gonna show you it. I'm gonna show you the theory, and we're gonna come back after the outbreak. In the next segment, I'm gonna show it to you, and you're gonna be like, that was a hit. - He crawls under the bed, and there's a sock get stuck to him, and he comes out and they're like, it's a cum sock, no. - Yeah, exactly. - I don't think, I don't feel like in the upper part of it. - I don't think your fucking socks, mate. Your fucking socks. Anyway, tangled, tangled, tangled. They have released live action that someone's on sneaky little intern or something has taken photos on the set and leaked it. - Oh. - And I thought they were AI at first, 'cause you can't believe anything, but I do believe they are real. - Yeah. - But looks good. The thing with live action remakes, I find, I don't think people are ever happy with them. - Yeah. - Because if they do a complete shot for shot, one for one remake live action, like every line is the same, every shot, every set, every costume is the same. People are like, it's literally a shot for shot. What's the point of making this when we have the original? - What's different? - What's different, but then they do something different and everyone is like, well, it's not the original. So I, like you know what I mean. - I think it's one of those things where you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't, right? - I just think the writers room must be getting really dried up. - Yeah. - They're not coming up with anything. - Well, did you see these days, Netflix, HBO, all the big production houses, when they're going to the writers and the scripters from new TV shows, they're instructed to dumb it down now. Because they need to assume that people are on their phones while watching all of these shows. So if you look, which is sad as fuck. So if you look at, that's why TV sucks now. So if you look at a lot of the storylines, they are dumbed down the plots, so dumb down the character developments, dumbed down, and that is specifically at 100% intentional and directed from the board at a lot of these large production houses. - Well, I guess that'll never happen with movies though. Because movies is, you're in a cinema. I think a lot of those big streaming companies that kind of just the fast fashion of TV, they're just constantly pumping out Netflix originals, Paramount originals, - Absolutely. - And a lot of their, they have, don't give it wrong, they have a thing that they have, like the catalog where they put a lot of money and time into it, and they get big a list of actors and directors and all that, to do a really well done show, and then they have a big portion of the budget, which is kind of them just spending money to acquire really cheap low budget things, they buy it, they give them a bit of extra money to make it, and then they put it up as an Netflix originals. - Yeah. - So, thank God, I don't think that'll ever happen to movies. I hope. - I pray, I hope not. - Yeah, you have to sit in a cinema, so you can't really watch your phone. And if you are, fuck you, I hate people like that. - Well, that's what I was gonna say. - Nothing makes me angry. - I'm just wondering. - Then going into a movie with a friend, and they're on their phone. - 100%. - Makes me angry. - Why do I bring you? - Well, that's the thing, like, there's one thing about you and I. We won't go on our phones at the cinema, but we will talk the fuck through. - I'll talk the fuck through the movie. - I want to rate it back to you, and make jokes throughout the whole thing. - 100%. I won't speak it at normal volume, but if you're not okay with me, oh, my God. - What did you just think about it? - I'll tell you. - This was like a year ago. Do you remember Nicole Kidman's terrible movie, Baby Girl? - No. - Where she was like a mother who like started sleeping with like a intern, it's like in his 20s. - So this is why you do the culture catch up, you might don't, 'cause you know all this shit. - Fabulous movie. Nicole Kidman, I love you. I'm, I want to see this movie. This is gonna be a long call to catch up now, 'cause I have to tell this from. - No, I love it. - I want to see this movie. And I was with Grace. - Yeah. - And we're like, let's go to Dendy Newtown. So it's Newtown. - Yeah. - I'm sitting next to this woman who looks like-- - But she's a woman or was she-- - Woman, she was a woman. I'm assuming based on her outward presentation, she was a woman. But she looks like a shops at Gorman, only uses ASAP, like that was her tea. - Yeah. - I was just like everyone to know, she had like short pixie cut kind of thick, not less being hair, but not like-- - Yeah. - Woman hair, it was like pink. - Kind of like pink. - Honestly, flowier than pink, it was a bit more-- - Okay, pink-ass. - Pink-ass, a bit more quoft and fluffy than pink. Anyway, yeah, looks like she only shops at Gorman, uses only ASAP. I would just like everyone to know that hope, snack of choice. Obviously she didn't buy any snacks at the theater. Of course, she's one of those people. She had a fucking totem, like, Hessian tote bag with her. Her snack of choice, she pulls out Fischemann's friends. - Oh, gross. - That's a mint, so I don't understand how someone can eat Fischemann's friends as a snack. - Yeah, hate that. - But when I go to movies with friends, I try to be aware that there's other people there who want to watch it, and try to be disruptive. But I do whisper to my friends if something's funny or if we have a theory about it, we do lean in and go like, that's why we sit down the back. That's why I always sit up the back or the end of the aisle. And I lean in and go like, you know, oh, something really funny happens. You're like, me? Like, you know what I mean? So we were doing that, and this woman taps me on the shoulder, like 20 minutes into the movie. Had it never been like 40 minutes. Tats me into the shoulder. And I turn around, all cheerful and happy, 'cause I've just said something hilarious to Grace. So we're like, we're giggling. And I turn cheerful, happy, and I go, and I lean in and I go, mm-hmm. And she leans in really close, 'cause I'm so sorry. And pause for a minute. I think maybe she's gonna, she's dropped something because she would be polite about it. Like, she tapped me on the shoulder. And I was like, yep, and I'm like leaning in. Like, she dropped a phone. Yeah, and then I leaned in and then she leaned in and like whispered very softly and it started out very polite. And I was like, oh, has she lots of she needed help with something? She was, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. This person, they keep pulling this story talking. (laughing) And I'm not joking. Like, you know when you lean in with your ear, you're kinda looking down at the ground. I look up from the ground and her and I go, oh, I look up. I go, oh, and then I laughed. And then she got really mad that I laughed. And then I turned back to Grace. And mealy went, Grace, that woman, stop me, stop talking. I went really bad. You know what you should have done when she's like, oh, excuse me, can you, please stop talking. You should have gone, you should have been like, oh, yeah, yeah, come in, come in, come here, and gone. No. (laughing) Oh, and then you have to sit there for another nine- I sat next to her for another like, yeah, like, probably like, 65, like something minutes, like just like, great. Well, it kind of reminds me of this time. I had a similar kind of thing happen to me. I was flying from Beijing to LA, maybe like six years ago. And I was in the security queue at Beijing Airport, which has probably like 100,000 people going through it every fucking day, right? And there was this guy in front of me at the security queue who was so slow in terms of taking his laptop out. I had a question about, can I keep my watch down? - I'm asking all the questions. - No, answer is no. The answer is no, take it all off. - Take it all off. - If you don't know, take it off. - Yeah. - So he's asking questions and this and that. And it got to the point where anyone would have said something. - Yeah. - And I just looked at it and I went, if you could go slower, that'd be great. And he looked at me with the most mortified look on his face. So then I, he finally gets through and I looked at him and I was in a bowel mood. It was 5.30 in the morning. I was running on two hours of sleep. I hadn't had a coffee. The Starbucks at Beijing Airport was closed. But Dee Dee was late to pick me up. There was a (beep) I was furious. So I go through I made a snarky comment being like is it your first day on planet earth or what's going on? I get my laptop after security. I put it in my bag. I go to the lounge. I bought the flight. I sit down who's sitting next to me. Him. Him. No way. Did you apologize? Fuck no, I didn't apologize. That's how you're saying? How long ago was this? This would have been maybe seven years ago. I saw you when you were like at your worst when I was at my worst. Yes. When I was at the ****. Yeah, a maniac. I'm not. Yeah. And we did the 11 hour flight to LA. Yeah. And he looks at me about 40 minutes before landing. I'm filling out my arrival card. And he goes, can I borrow your pen? And I looked him and I went, no. Did you actually **** yeah, I did. You sat. I was a little. I was an absolute you suck. I was an absolute. Oh, I've got another great movie theater story. And I was well. Oh my god. I can't. I can't keep this. But I kind of I kind of want to hear it. This is great. We were in going to see Sydney Swiney's anyone, but you Sydney Swiney and the other guy who's never forgot. Love Sydney Swiney. She has great. The Australian movie they did anything, but you who was the guy in it? Oh, that's going to annoy me. Anyway, he was chatted and scream claims. Anyway, going to see that. I was with Ange this time. Going to see that movie. We were in the palace electric in the CBD. You know that weed little movie. Oh, yeah. Randa. So random. Who's we're in the city? We're like, let's just go see it. Yeah. So we went. The cinemas in that cinema are really small and on this and it was a really empty cinema. It was like mixed. It was like kind of busy kind of not. The back row was all full. And it was all girls like maybe like in their 20s to 30s all girls. And me and Ange booked the two seats right at the very back. The two seats at the very back in that row of like 30 and 20 year olds. And we were on the very far part. Like, you know, yeah, you get what I'm saying. The very, very far part. And there's three seats. We booked the fast the last two in the row. So there's one between us and the group of girls. So we go and we sit there and we go, oh, it's a bit too far that like the screens at an angle. So we moved down one thinking like it's a full row. There's only one seat left. No way. No one's going to have an issue with this. So we moved down one and I'd like like just putting it out there where in the final row that's awful. The rest of the cinema is basically empty. I don't know why all this group of girls chose the back row. Then there's like a couple people spread out through the cinema. There's so many free chairs. A woman comes up. This woman was probably in like 40, like like late 40s and she looks terrible. I'm just going to say. Frumpy. Frumpy. She looked at the kind of woman who's never been loved. Horrible yucky pony tail. Brunette obviously because whenever you ever seen blondes be like this and she comes stomping down. She stops and sees us and we don't even pay attention to her because she's one of those forgettable women. Yeah. And so we didn't even pay attention to her and she leaves goes out and we didn't even pay attention. She comes back with an usher and the usher makes us move back down to. She didn't even ask you. No. She went straight to the usher. She saw it. She came up, saw that we were in the seat. Like in the seats because we had moved one over because there was three left in the row and two of them were out. We moved one over assuming the final seat was not taken. She comes stomping all the way up. It gets halfway through the row. Sees that are and then goes and gets the usher. The usher makes us then move back down one. She sits and me and Angie were so shocked by this. I wouldn't live it because it's so inconsequential. You could have just asked. She could have chosen a different seat anywhere else in the seat. Yeah. We were so gagged by it. As soon as the usher left we burst out into laughter. The movie had been on. The movie hadn't even started yet. We burst out into laughter and we spoke at a normal indoor volume about how crazy that was. I would have done the same. I literally said to Angie. Did that really just happen? And Angie's laughing. I'm like, yeah, that did just happen actually. That totally happened. And then we're like, as if you got the usher on us and everything. And then we were like laughing and then the movie starts and we just kept talking about her that three minutes into the movie. She gets up. She leaves the row and she finds a seat somewhere else down the front. And then and then and then Angie goes, oh great. We've got our spot back and we moved back down and she was sitting in front of us the whole show. How crazy. Like some people are weird. If that was me, if I was that loser going to the movie alone and that was me, I would have gone off this rose full. I'll find a seat. I'll find a seat anywhere else in this almost empty movie theater. Well, speaking of empty movie theaters, we can we talk about what happened when we went to evil dead bird. Yes. Oh my god. Evil dead bird. That's crazy. That's crazy. Yeah, we're done with the culture. About movies. Yes. Oh my god. Why don't we do this segment? And then we'll talk about movies and shit. And then we'll do a new segment, which are just sports. Yeah. Okay. Let's do that. So Verity and I went to the cinema what two weeks ago and see two Mondays ago to go see evil dead bird like 9 30 PM because we're bored on like a Monday night. So like not empty. Yeah. And we booked it and we were the only ones in the cinema when we booked it. And we were like, yeah, place ourselves. So we go in and we sit down and we got our popcorn. We're this before the movie starts. You and I get up in a way at full volume. It's the only people in there at 9 30 PM on my day. And these two fuck look at the walk in and sit down. Yeah, I just want to describe these two people. They walk in and they're wearing like beige musty like zip up jackets. Kind of very reminiscent of like a school shooter. And like that has to be me. And like cargo pants with like khaki khaki cargo pants, corda roe and they've got like little like charms and dingle dangles and shit hanging off like a fucking one of those things called a gimbal or whatever on the pants. And they had like probably like five inch long black greasy roots that then turned into like lime green hair that's definitely faded in the sun. So it's going that like we. But that's two years on. I don't think they had caddies. One of them did have caddies. One of them had caddies. I think the blue head one had caddies actually because it was the one that was green. Yeah. The blue head one had caddies on. Then there was the green one and the blue head one. I'm going to say their demeanor. Their demeanor was very like like yeah like the kitty cat of the kitty cat of the duo. Like you know very like I'm skittish and I'm like oh and weird. And the other one was a bit more. Like if I put a cucumber in front of you, you just jump. Yeah, exactly. And then the other one, the other one was a bit taller, a bit more butchy and had a bit more like you know those weird girls in school growing up that were definitely something was wrong with them and they would like be really aggressive for their reason. Yeah. Like I remember this kind of girl like growing up like she was big and she was broad and bulky and she had like that weed. All these girls have the same weird frizzy pony tail. Yeah. Very different to the horse girls. No, horse girls always have a frizzy braid. There's a diagram of it though. Horse girls always have a very horse girls have a very frizzy long braid usually slick and then frizzy long braid and they kind of weird and they can't come to it but they don't speak much. They're not violent people. Horse girls. No. But this girl used to like roar at people like a lion and like I'm gonna. You know and it's like streets nearly killed me. These streets raise me. These streets nearly killed me. But yeah, so these two chicks. That's what they look like coming in. I mean, Grace and see them and we like look and we just in silence look at each other and we don't even say anything and like we've said a thousand things just with that look. Absolutely. Continue. So I just had to had to really get the listeners to know what we were looking at. So they sit down and very tired talking at a relatively loud volume because the movie had not started yet. The house lights were still on. The house was only people in the cinema. And they sit down. They were in our aisle. In our aisle. Three seats to our left. Like three four seats. Like probably four seats to the left in an empty cinema. Now if that role was reverse and we walked in after they had, we would have gone back. Even if my tickets were in their row, I would have gone, oh, who gives a fuck? There's no one here. Let's go back. Yeah. And keep in mind, we're there to see Evil Dead Burn, right? Which is a very intense. It's a horror movie. It's flashing lights. It's glass. It's glass. It's jabs. It's overstimulating. And I could just see that these two chicks were so overstimulated. They were so bothered by our our talking. Actually, our presence. Because oh, so fucking doing that. Our presence. They were bothered by our presence because from the moment they walked in, they looked at us like deer and headlights. They saw us sitting there in the cinema. And I don't think they expected anyone else to be in there. And they were like, other people in the cinema. They literally, they were. But you know what's crazy? They were sitting out the front of the cinema when we walked in. Yeah. So they watched us walk in. So were they sitting out the front after we walked in and then they building up the courage to go in. Maybe like, oh shit, I thought. You know what I mean? Like, because the one with the caddies looked like the kind of girl that would like a, oh, and like we yourself. Yeah. So. And then we keep talking doing our thing. Again, house lights are on. Yeah. The movies not trailers haven't even started. House lights are on. And then the minute the first trailer plays, they get up and they leave. And they leave. And they didn't come back. And I looked at you and I was like, I think we scared them off. Yeah, I think that was us. And then I look, I went to go to like, maybe the wrong theater. Because at 930 on a Monday, I don't think it's wrong. I was like, maybe they're getting food. I was like, pop on refill. Speaking of getting food at the cinema, I will always go to calls and I will always buy a giant bag of stuff because it is so expensive to buy food at the cinema. And you know how I get around it? Because I once taught, got to one time. You can't bring the sin. I know. And in fairness, I was naughty. I had an entire bag of KFC. And the guy at the cinema scanning the tickets went, you can't bring that in. And I went, I went, oh, well, can you guarantee that you guys do I don't use peanut oil because I'm deathly allergic to peanuts so I can't buy anything from here So I have to buy outside food and bring it in from my health and safety Grayson is not allergic to peanuts or peanut oil or peanut oil I don't know how the fuck I thought of that or where I don't know That's quick thinking that is really quick that one out of a with that one straight out of my asshole Yeah, the poor little 14 year old dude work on the 14 Looked at me look to me went Okay, okay, and I was with Those are How the fuck did you think of that you guys that's smart as fuck that what that is really smart when you told me that story That was like that's actually really genius. Yeah, so anyone feel free to steal that use that as much as you can guys because they can't prove it Um, I will say though I I understand people buying snacks and bringing it in but unless I'm craving something really specific that can only be gotten outside All I want it the movies is popcorn so I don't really go crazy at the candy bar Some people go nuts at the candy bar. Yeah, like from Waltis's lollies chocolate drink popcorn I just want popcorn and I would go to calls and buy it but nothing tastes like movie It has a weird oil machine. Do you love your popcorn? I fucking Love popcorn like such a slut for it total slut for popcorn. I love this I love how this just culture catch up segment turned into us Movie stories movie stories all right. Well, you know what let's do the sports Let's do sports let's take an ab brain ad break and sports ad break and then sports all right We're gonna do it next we need a name for the sports segment sports unillustrated sports unillustrated audio show that's hilarious We'll think of something we'll think of something all right Tbd sports segment name coming up now coming up as H.R.s worst nightmare with Grayson and Verity stick around We'll be back in a second you are listening to H.R.s worst nightmare H.R.s worst nightmare The problematic microphones are ready for this H.R.s worst nightmare you're on the air it's Grayson and Verity here now we are gonna be doing sports Unillustrated sports unillustrated let's do it hit the opener and now for the thousands in attendance and the millions watching Around the world Ladies and gentlemen, let's get ready here All right sports unillustrated that is a working name if we have any ideas if anyone wants to suggest an even better name for our Sports segment possibly new sports segment please feel free DM us DM us send us a fun name for the sports segment H.R.s worst nightmare dot pod on Instagram, but we're back at it with sports surprisingly and I Gonna talk about FIFA because we just finished that this week congratulations to Spain and Spina they won against Argentina much to the world's Joy because the world really didn't want Argentina to win no, they didn't they did not want Argentina to win at all so did you see Spain won and the Argentinean the Argentinean team Immediately started a fight with them on the field and they're like punching them in the face no out of like anger that they are Kidding so serious so serious. Oh my god a fight broke out literally like on the field on the field after they like after they got their winning goal Or whatever like a couple of them like the Argentinean teams are like like like just Couldn't handle like that someone got punched in the face or something I saw someone get punched in the face on the thing and I was like what and then to see that awkward moment with Donald Trump Handing the trophy to them and then he like kind of stood on the end and got a photo and they all pretended he wasn't there Yeah, and everyone's like me that one friend in the group like you know, I love Spain love Spain love Spain great country Great football balls. Um, did you say that though? That one's not the how funny is awesome. He's looking fatter. He is looking fatter And I'm worried maybe he's the one taking McDonald's into the movies He's one taking my good. Oh Yeah, so poor Donald Trump he looked very left out in that Victory shot very left out, but yeah, congratulations to Spain. I'm so sorry that you got punched in the face Spanish guy Yeah, that's not cool. That's not fun. It's all it's all in good fun, but that's not that's not fun I was a bit disappointed with the um FIFA World Cup Final though the grand final because they advertised The FIFA World Cup half-time show yeah, they don't do a half-time show This is the first time they've ever done it. This was the first they're trying to be the Super Bowl. Yeah, the first ever Half-time show FIFA World Cup and they were like Madonna will be performing Shakira will be performing a bunch of people will be performing So of course I'm like ready for Madonna This half-time show included Madonna Shakira Justin Bieber a couple other people who's names. I'm forgetting right now And so I was under the impression it would be like One artist would open it and do a couple songs one art and then artists in the middle and then one artist would like close it with like a big set And my assumption would be it would be Madonna doing like the big set or maybe Shakira Yeah, maybe Shakira because she's the queen of the FIFA World Cup. Yeah, walk a walk out. She's got all the songs So I thought one of those two would be closing it And it would be like a mini-com like a festival kind of you know instead of doing one like one artist it'd be like a mini group thing No It was really really weird Madonna opened it for three seconds. She came driving through on a tractor and saying Music makes the people that song um Can measure she was on the tractor went grab the mic went hi grinder hi Hi FIFA hi FIFA she comes out on the Thing sings it and then like is standing there And that was it and then it cuts to someone else and then they performed for like three seconds and then it cuts adjusted like that Then it cut to Justin Bieber singing like that weird sad song and then Shakira got a lot of screen time Yeah, and then Madonna what I'm not mad about that mad about it, but then Madonna kind of closed it again And sang the same song But that it was the same song but a mashup with one of the new songs from the album or something it was very disappointing like I know people who were like Waking up at 6 a.m. Camping out just to see Madonna. Yeah, they were like oh my god Madonna is gonna perform her new album She hardly got any showtime or anytime. Well, this would have been her first time performing that new album The content of that new album since its release yeah, and she It was it was a bit of a mess to be completely honest. You know what energy that's giving is do you remember the 2010 Haiti earthquake and they did the whole We are the world I got like all the artists and oh everyone was in it. Yeah, like almost every big Musical recording artists from that era was in that but it was very strange Is it just kind of each verse just kind of cut to a different person and it was all over the place That's what it's kind of giving it was just not I need to watch the whole thing in full again It was not fabulous at all like it was a really big let down so um how long did it go on for total like I'm in a spot number not even 30 minutes. I don't think That was so quick. It was so quick and it was like just like what was the point of that they should have just got one artist Yeah, to be completely honest like just one artist because like why would they bother with all those the team behind the super bowl would have been watching it being like Yeah, the team that did the super ball half time would have been like that's embarrassed that was really embarrassing It's like when we see other people do podcast and we go And we got a lot of people have a lot of podcast announcements Yeah, there's been a lot there's been a lot of podcast announcements um and then finally just for some sports stuff Did you see that Australia has invited the Brazil team I did to come to you to be over the mood Australia um for a two friendly games Post FIFA they're coming in September. They'll be in Townsville and they will be in Brisbane So how fabulous is that and is that a um Suncorp stadium? I'm not sure whereabouts in Townsville I don't know why they wouldn't bring them to Sydney to Sydney and Melbourne. Yeah It is straining. Brisbane I get Townsville. Yeah, Townsville's an all-bone Townsville is very odd If you're going to invite them for like a couple of friendly games make it an event and do like Brisbane Sydney Melbourne. Yeah, you're a game in each big three Metro cities a game in each um Stay you know what I mean that would be good, but yeah, they'll be up there um playing it Whatever sport they play soccer. Yeah, whatever sport they play um are you gonna go? I would love to go because you love Brazil Very famously loves loves loves Brazil and you're going to Brazil. I am going to Brazil and I'm so excited You're booked and everything got your visa. Yeah, I'm ready. I'm ready. I'm ready. I would love to go but I don't know if I don't know what it is I think it's during the week or something I have to figure out maybe I'm literally like maybe we fly in the morning and then come back at night Like just after the game like just to go see me and the girls even a one-nighter Yeah, even me and the girls we really want to go though But I'm like just imagining this stadium because obviously Brazil and Australia have the same colors Yeah green and yellow. I'm imagining one side of the stadium green and yellow is Australia one side of the stadium green and yellow is Brazil and I'll be On the Brazil side no, you'll be it you'll be where it into I'll be like we are I'll be with the stadium rap I'll be sitting right in the you know what they could do and If anyone from the soccer federation or whatever the hell you're called a listening Please feel free to steal this idea because the colors are safe. Oh maybe a gay child pass it on to your dad Yeah, yeah exactly tell you dad Because the colors for Brazil and Australia are the same the green and gold they should flip a coin And whoever gets heads or tails one goes green one goes gold So one whole side of the stadium be gold and one whole side of the stadium would be green That's really smart actually like imagine how cool they've been they make like a whole event about it like weeks and weeks and weeks before Like even months before the game. Yeah. Flipper coin like live on TV or something and whoever gets each each I love that one color. I love that. And then they have a whole new range of football jerseys and merch and this and that so we might be either all green or all gold and then the shots of the stadium would be half green half gold. I reckon that would be sick. That's a really sick idea. Anyone listening you want to steal that idea and take it to FIFA or the soccer Federation. Taking that one idea off. Taking that one idea further because they're both green and gold but they're different panton like they're different shades. Yeah. Brazil is like a Brazil. Love Brazil. Brazil is the really great Brazil. Brazil is that really bright. I can't I don't know the exact panton shades of them but Brazil is like that really bright like seepia can airy yellow. That's their can airy yellow and something green and Australia is that really like deep like bottle green and like mustard yellow. It's very like toe down and yeah. It's very it's very like kind of like the Australian one is green and yellow. If green and yellow was a very desert vibe and the Brazil ones like if it was green and yellow but very bright and tropical which works but take that idea one step further you flip a coin and maybe it's like it's the color of the green from Brazil and the color of the yellow from Australia. Oh I like that. So that way it's like one of each. It's like one of each. It's like green and yellow. It's like imagine like you have the combo of like the dark green of Australia and then the bright yellow of Brazil or like vice versa. I like choose one pantone from each. I love that. Option because yeah there's a lot of countries that do the green and the green and yellow thing. But what I really love that Australia and Brazil are doing because they're playing together is there's obviously Australia and Brazil are two very different countries in terms of culture in terms of where we are in the world in terms of everything. Yeah. But there is something about Australians and Brazilians that just gel and you look at you as an example of how many Brazilian friends you have and how many Brazilians come to Australia and just absolutely fall over with this country. Yeah. And on the flip side the amount of Aussies that go over to Brazil and fall in love with it. Yeah. Yeah. You're right. I'm kind of scared that you're not going to be coming back. I have to learn Portuguese first. Yeah. Garayo. Garayo. What does Garayo mean again? It's like fuck. It's like. Garayo. Fuck this. Like that damage. Okay. All right. That's enough Portuguese, Grayson. Which do you learn Portuguese? Do you a Lingo segment? Should I do a new segment where it's just like dirty Portuguese word of the day every show? I like that. What would today's one be? Maybe just do Garayo. Garayo. Because of your obsession with Garayo. Garayo. Anyway, that's sports. That's the sport. That's sports. That's the working name that I like. I kind of like it. I can see like a like a poster and it's me like in like a swimsuit. Like the cover of a sport illustrated magazine. Yeah. It's a sports una illustrated or something. No, because it's unelecreated. It's a total opposite of sports illustrator. It's just for you in a full me fully clothed. You fully clothed. Like a non-doubt fit. All right. Well, that was sports unelecreated here on 8-chars-worst nightmare. Coming up next, we're going to do the secret sound. We've got a we've got a guest. We've got a guest. We do have a guest. We're going to play it out on the air and we're going to see if they're right or if they're wrong or if we're going to keep doing it next week. So here it will do it next. Stick around. The problematic microphones are ready for this. 8-chars-worst nightmare. You're on the air. It's Grayson and Verdi here. Now, it is time for the secret sound. Now, to guess what that is, you send us a voice message to 8-chars-worst-nightmare.pod on Instagram along with your phone number. And if you guess it correctly, we will call you and you win a $500 gift card to House of Flora. That is houseoflorad.com.au or House of Flora official on Instagram. Now, we do have someone that has sent us a voice message guessing what this secret sound is. So should we do it? Yeah, let's do it. All right. This is Lily guessing what it is. Hi Grayson and Verdi. Me and Josh think it is opening a bottle of beer or like a glass bottle and like the like with a bottle opener and they click. Bye! Oh, I can officially announce that she is incorrect. Damn. Incorrect. She's in trouble. Sorry, Lily. I think we have another guess though. So we have another guess. This one's not an audio message. It's just a message message from good friend Lauren Windsor. Yeah. Good friend Lauren Windsor. She said her guess is the tapping tapping the pressed coffee thing to level it. What's that even mean? Like the you know when you make a barista made coffee and you like and you. Oh, that sounded a bit. Yeah, it's a bit like. I don't know what fucking coffee machine I don't know what you're doing under the table over there. Grayson. No, I'm gonna guess that's not true. I don't know. Incorrect. Sorry Lauren. Sorry, the coffee machine. No, I'm not not closer and I'll give I'll give a clue. Oh, you're gonna give a clue. I'll give a clue. That's not even warm. Nothing to do with a coffee machine. Nothing to do with anything of the kitchen. That's my clue for this week. Nothing to do with anything in the kitchen. What did I have last week? I had a you had the cattle. A cattle slaughtering gun. What am I going to guess this week? It's like that. Would you like to hear the sound? Yeah, can I hear the sound one more time plus plus? That's the sound. It's a tough one, hey. Is it in our house? Is it in our house? I can either confirm for no. No, off the air. I have no fucking clue. It's a really good because it sounds familiar. Yeah, but it's like I'm like it's the kind of noise that anything really could make like a tough one, hey? When I guess when I recorded the sound, I went, oh, this will be good. No one's going to get this because that's what we want. We want something that is going to take a few weeks. I have no guess. Imagine six years passes and we're still here and no one's going to sound. The prize is like jackpotter to half a million dollars. I have no way. I don't think I even have a guess. Nothing is coming to my brain. No, literally. One more time. All right. One more time for you and for our listeners. Take a listen. I have no fucking idea. Maybe next week of people still aren't getting it right. I can say what type of material. It sounds like metal to me. Can you either confirm or deny? It's like metal-queeping. I have no idea. That's a robot sex going on. Yeah, like a robot fart or something like that. I have no idea. Actually, I don't even have a guess. I don't have a guess. I have to have another try next week. I have to have a double guess. All right. Well, if you want to guess, send us a DM to 8 Charles Worse nightmare dot pod on Instagram and we will read out your submission or play your voice message next week. I think that wraps up this episode. I think it does. We rambled a lot. We talked a lot of moving in a lot of movie theater chat. But that is that's. You're right. We talked a lot about movie theaters and I love that we're becoming sporty. I know. I love that every time we've discussed sports, though, it's never been about this sport. No, always the drama surrounding always the drama surrounding the sport. Always the drama surrounding the sport. We've never once made a comment on how they played, how this. I don't know. I don't even know what I don't know what any of it was. I just can care about the drama around it. All right, guys. Thank you so much for listening. We'll catch you next week. Summary:

The transcription features a lively podcast episode where the hosts, Grayson and Verity, start by sharing a hangover from a Wednesday night out, noting a pattern of midweek partying. Verity recounts a confrontation with a neighbor who angrily complained about cardboard boxes she left near the bin room, escalating into a tense intercom argument. " The show then moves to "The Culture Catcher," covering movie news: a live-action "Tangled" film is in production, sparking debate about Disney’s live-action remakes.

FAQs

The 'Culture Catcher' is a segment on the show where hosts Grayson and Verity discuss pop culture, movies, and sports news.

The argument was about cardboard boxes left near the bin room; a neighbor confronted the host rudely, leading to a heated exchange over the intercom.

Bottled water is recommended to avoid 'Bali belly,' as tap water can cause stomach issues; even brushing teeth with bottled water is advised.

The 'Secret Sound' is a game where listeners guess a sound to win a $500 gift card to House of Flora, by sending voice messages to the show.

People are often unhappy because if the remake is a shot-for-shot copy, it's seen as pointless, but if it changes things, it's criticized for not being true to the original.

Production houses instruct writers to simplify plots assuming viewers are on their phones while watching, which the hosts criticize as making TV worse.
