Episode 55: Technology is Amazing

In this episode of the Being On Stage podcast, host Reggie Dawson opens by thanking his global audience, reading a roll call of the 24 countries where the show has been heard, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Nigeria, Singapore, and many others. He explains that technology makes this reach possible and expresses genuine gratitude to every listener who has shared the podcast. Reggie then introduces himself as a talent coach who helps performers improve their stage presentation and build confidence, and he invites listeners to join his Facebook group at beingonstage.com/group for networking and encouragement. The main topic of the episode is how performers can use technology to capture and grow their audience. Reggie asks listeners to imagine being approached after a show by someone who wants to hire them or follow their work, and he questions whether they have a clear way for that person to find them. He advises against handing out a laundry list of contact information and instead recommends choosing a couple of simple ways for people to connect, ideally a single place where they can browse videos, photos, and upcoming performances. Reggie emphasizes that getting started online requires no money and only about two hours a week, and he promises upcoming training in his Facebook group on landing pages, email capture, graphics, Instagram, and marketing techniques used by online businesses. He adds that spending 50 to 100 dollars on a website and social media ads is worthwhile, though not strictly necessary, and encourages performers to stay in the game because networking opportunities will come.

Speaker 1Shut up, and sit down. Welcome to Being On Stage, the only podcast that gives you motivation, inspiration, and confidence to be better on stage. No matter how you entertain, sing, dance, band, comedian, public speaking, MC, drag, burlesque, performance art, or street performer, this is the show for you. Hey Rockstars, Reggie Dawson, your host of the Being On Stage podcast. Thanks for tuning in today. Can I just say, technology is incredible. The fact that I can sit here today and I can tell you every country that hears this podcast is absolutely incredible. And I'm not trying to brag, I'm not trying to brag. I actually want to involve you, like I want to thank you for bringing my podcast into different countries. This is something like, this is incredible to me, something I never thought would have been possible. But with technology, I can clearly say that it is. Like listen, these are the countries that have listened to my podcast ever. And if you're in these countries, thank you so, so very much. Please continue to share, continue to grow. We need this message to get out there that, you know, performers need to be confident. Performers need to work on their presentation to connect with their audience. To overall look at the live performance as a whole. Not just the individual pieces of what we do on stage, but what the audience believes. Perceives us as the whole performance. So thank you so much to my people, of course, in the United States. Thank you so much. Many different states. I know I have New York. I know I have California, Washington, Texas, Florida. That's where I live. Thank you very much. My fellow native Floridians, a little bit in Georgia, Louisiana. I know there was one in Kansas and a couple in North Carolina and Canada as well. Thank you very much for my Canadian friends, Japan. Thank you. Thank you a lot in Tokyo, Germany, the Netherlands, Netherlands. I know the Netherlands recently joined. So thank you so much for downloading. I appreciate you guys. Australia, Ireland. Ireland's been listening since the beginning. Thank you so much. France, United Kingdom. I know that includes multiple countries. It does group it all together on my platform. Austria, Republic of Lithuania, India, Israel, Spain, Norway, Uganda, Bahamas, South Africa, Nigeria. Thank you. Nigeria was recent as well. Singapore, Singapore has been since the beginning. Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and of course, Sweden. So thank you everybody. This is incredible to see this list of 24 countries that this podcast has made it to, but this is what I'm talking about. Like, I know I'm kind of sitting here doing a little bit of a roll call and I just, I've been thinking about doing it for a couple of episodes and I've kind of backed off from doing it. I like, I was going to do it and I decided not to. But then I finally realized, you know what? I want to recognize my audience. I want to recognize my listeners. I want to thank you as personally as I can. That being said, I also want to help you use this technology. If this is the first episode you're tuning into, my name again is Reggie Dawson. I'm a talent coach. I help performers and coach them to improve their stage presentation and maximize their confidence on stage. I love everything about being on stage. I love other people's performances on stage. And I love seeing the odd, the crazy, the out there, and I love seeing your personality brought into your show. I have a Facebook group in which I invite performers from all over the, well, all over the world, I guess, to come and network and share what they do and, you know, seek encouragement and then likewise encourage others. If you want to get up in that group, you can do so going to beingonstage.com/group. We would absolutely love to have you. I'm in there at least two to three times a week posting, doing a video, talking to people. Talking more in depth about the podcast, talking more in depth about performing, asking questions, provoking your thoughts. So join us, please, beingonstage.com/group. And that's part of the technology I want to talk about, by the way, is Facebook, Instagram, a web page. There are so many ways that we can generate a following or even capture a following. Now, let's, let me, let me get inside your head for a minute, okay? You're a performer. You perform on stage. You perform on stage on a semi-regular basis, maybe a regular basis, maybe an occasional basis. However often you perform, you go out there, you do your thing, you captivate the audience, you give your all, you throw yourself into your performance, you give them your energy, and in return, they applaud your efforts. Maybe they tip you, depending on what it is you're doing and what your venue is, but at the end of the night, what if someone comes up to you and they want to be able to find you? What if someone comes up to you and wants to hire you? I know this is a big what if, but go with me here. These are how these things happen. This is how the dream goes. This is how networking works. People are going to approach you. If they haven't yet, keep staying in the game. It's going to happen if you keep doing what it is you do. You've got to stay in there. Moving on to this technology, where do you send them? Do you give them your phone number? Do you give them a card? What do you send them on your card? Is it just your phone number and an email address? People want to be able to browse what it is you do. It doesn't have to be a laundry list of websites. It doesn't have to be Google site, Wix site, WordPress blog, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, website, email address, phone number, fax number. Depending on your age, page or number, it doesn't have to be this laundry list of contact information. Although you should have a couple of different ways for people to connect with you, when you're giving out the initial information, you pick a couple of different ways you want them to contact you. The biggest asset you can have is a place where they can go find information. I know I'm talking pretty fast. I'm getting really excited about this. This really excites me because this is something that held me back as a performer years ago. This is something that put a huge stopper in my performance career, was embracing how I can use technology. Now this may not apply to everybody and you may have a good grasp on Instagram. You may have a good grasp on Facebook. You may even be able to design a website, but I'm looking at the total package and that's kind of what I'm talking about. Let me drop a little bit of a knowledge bomb on you right here. One, you don't need any money to get started online at all. Put on your own profile information to help you find bookings and performance opportunities and, you know, get paid for what you do and, you know, get into the more of a payment industry, corporate events, private events, things like that, where this is all like this is all free. There's not going to be any cost to do this. And I'm actually going to be putting together a little bit of a training to help you improve your following on social media, help you establish some place where you can send people. I'm talking like a landing page type thing. They're going to be able to subscribe to your email and you're going to be able to manage all of this with just like two hours a week. Like it's not a lot of time investment and it is zero money investment. So listen, if you want some sneak peeks into what I'm talking about, get a little more in-depth information about, you know, having a way to get capture people's emails, having some place to send them so that they can view videos and pictures and, you know, upcoming performances. If you want to have that. And spend no money because let's face it, you know, we're not all made of money. We're not all making the big bucks. Now, I'll always tell you, it's worth it to spend the extra 50 to 100 dollars to get yourself established online with a website and, you know, a good solid social media ad going for yourself for your shows. But it's not entirely necessary to spend money on this. And I'm going to be doing some sneak peeks. And some training on that a little bit inside my Facebook group. So again, I encourage you to join. We're going to be learning how to create graphics. We're going to be doing a little bit of building a landing page. I'm going to be showing you a little bit about how to maximize your Instagram. And we're also going to be diving deeper in to using marketing techniques that's actually used by online businesses as well and entrepreneurs. But we're going to learn to use those marketing tips to expand yourself and network with other people. And we're going to be doing some sneak peeks. So again, I'll always tell you, it's worth it to spend the extra 50 to 100 dollars to get yourself established online with a website and a good solid social media ad going for yourself for your shows for your shows, for your shows, for your shows, for your shows. So again, I'll always tell you, it's worth it to spend the extra 50 to 100 dollars to get yourself established online with a website and a good solid social media ad going for yourself for your shows, for your shows, for your shows, for your shows, for your shows.
