Amateur to professional, it doesn't matter what you do on stage, this secret is something that you need to know if you're going to rock that stage. Before I dive in, once again, my name is Reggie Dawson. I'm a talent coach, I'm an MC, I'm a performance artist, I'm also a podcaster. And my goal is. Diving into the secret of a successful performance. Now, when I was up and coming as a performer, it took me a long time to realize. what was necessary to truly be great on stage. And I can't even say that I was truly great on stage, because I really try not to be that egotistical. I once was. I went through that battle. I did the battle of, I have to be the baddest mother on this train. I went through the battle of, you know, if you want me to perform, you need to call me. I went through it all. I've been an asshole. I've been the best friend you could ever have. I've been the trainer. I've been the guy at the end of the bar that's jealous. I've been it all. I've been there. But what I finally learned was the secret to a successful performance, what really makes a performer great, and what really makes that performance. You can't stop this podcast after I tell you the answer to this. You have to listen to the end. The secret of a successful performance is you. You hold the key. You hold the key to your performance being successful. Now, what do I mean by that? What do you mean, Reggie? What do you mean it's me? How is me? How am I the secret to a successful performance? Well, let me tell you. You are the secret to a successful performance because you are the performance. Being a performer is more than having a talent. Being a performer is even more than just getting on stage. Being a performer is that ability to make connections with people through art. And because you created that art as an artist, you're the most important piece of the puzzle. I have hooted and hollered about how it's all about the audience. And truly, once you're on stage, it is all about the audience, but it's about the connection that the artist is making with the audience. So the secret to a successful performance is all inside you. It is you. Truly and authentically. You. I dropped major hints at it in my last episode when I talked about my first Dave Matthews band experience. I mean, major hints. Being yourself on stage and truly just having fun with it and just going for it and putting yourself out there. Like my quote, like my motto is leave your legacy on stage. And when I say leave your legacy on stage, I mean it. Leave everything about yourself on that stage for the audience. You're gonna make connections. You're gonna get people that want more. You're gonna have people subscribing to you and wanting to know a place where they can find more. You're gonna have that. You have to give yourself to them first. You are the secret. The secret is everything about who you are and what you do and how you create the art that you put out there. That's the secret. The secret's in the sauce and the sauce is you, baby. That's it. I could stop talking right now, truthfully, but I'm gonna dive even deeper into this. So when I say the secret is you, I mean, you've got to get yourself into the game. If you don't perform, if you're afraid to perform, if you're holding yourself back, you've got to step up to the plate, friend. It's the only way you're gonna hit a home run. I'll use every analogy I can think of because I'm trying to, I need to get through to everybody about this. Like you need to perform because you're the secret. You hold. You hold everything that you need to be successful. You already have it. Yes, classes are wonderful. I think everyone should take a dance class. I think everyone should learn acting. I think everyone should learn a little bit about how the state like stagecraft. I think everyone should go through these, these topics and you know, lessons, but when it comes to the performance and how it's going to be successful, listen, you can have this amazing talent. You can have an amazing talent. You can work hard. You can rehearse nine hours a day, but if you can't put yourself out there on stage, your true authentic, who you are, if you can't put that out there on stage, you will not be successful. You may have an awesome performance. You may make the audience cheer, but you will not be successful. If you are not yourself as human beings, we are created. Guess what? To be. To be who we are. We all have a personality and that personality is what connects to other people. The only way you're going to find your fan base, the only way you're going to find your audience. The only way your audience is going to connect with you is if it's you on that stage. You hear about these artists. Oh man, he's a sellout. She or she sold out. He sold out a sellout. A sellout is someone who stops being themselves on stage. A sellout is someone. Someone who does something strictly for the sake of it's popular or it's what's expected or it's what's desired because I got news for you. What's popular? It's not really popular. It's popular because someone tells us it's popular, but what people really want when they go to a concert, when they go to a comedy show, when they go to a drag show, when they go to a burlesque show, when they see a dancer on the street, when they see someone playing a guitar in the corner, when they see anybody performing, when they see the acrobat in the air, when they see the clown driving the little car, when they see the ringleader playing with the lions, it doesn't matter what people see. When they see this artist on stage, what they truly, what they really, really want is a connection and the key to a connection is you. You're the key. You're the secret. You have it all inside you. You just have to. You put it out there. Everything that you need to be successful as a performer is inside you. It's you. It's your art. You have to let the real you out and I'm not talking like, listen, I've talked about stage persona. I've talked about stage names. Now I'm talking about you. Personas aside, even if you have a persona, even if you have a certain way that you are on stage, that's probably the real you. Beyonce is a great example. She has that inner superstar, that inner diva. She calls her Sasha Fierce. Some people say my inner Beyonce. Well, Beyonce has an inner Sasha Fierce. We all have an inner something. I have an inner Reggie. Trust me, when he comes out, the party is on. That part of you, that 100% superstar, when you look in the mirror or when you look into your future, what do you see on that stage? What do you truly see when you think about yourself on stage? That's who you need to be because that is who you are. You don't see a pop star. You don't see the next Britney Spears. You don't see the next Justin Bieber. You don't see the next Justin Timberlake. You don't see the next Pink. You see you. You see the rock star that you want to be, the rock star that you're going to create because the secret is you. you are the secret to every success successful performance that you will have. The next question I get, what is a successful performance? And this is where you're really going to hate me. I fully expect to get a couple of pissed off emails. The definition of a successful performance is a performance in which you are yourself. It's a vicious circle, my friend. I know. I'm an ass. I take it. I own it. But you're the secret to a successful performance and a performance is successful when you are you. Keep on shining.
