Speaker 1Shut up, and sit down. Welcome to Being On Stage, the only podcast that gives you motivation, inspiration, and confidence to be better on stage. No matter how you entertain, sing, dance, band, comedian, public speaking, MC, drag, burlesque, performance art, or street performer, this is the show for you. Hey Rockstars, my name is Reggie Dawson, and I am your host of the Being On Stage podcast, and I want to thank you for tuning in. Last night, Saturday, July 28th, 2018, I had a one-of-a-kind experience. I went to see Dave Matthews Band for the very first time in West Palm Beach, Florida. Now, I am not incredibly versed on the history and all things Dave Matthews Band. I did go to my first concert last night, let's keep that in mind. But I want to tell you something. I want to talk about the experience from the standpoint of a fellow performer and as a talent coach. Again, my name is Reggie Dawson. I'm a talent coach. I'm an MC, and I'm a performance artist. My specialty is helping performers improve their stage performance. This experience of seeing Dave Matthews Band live for the very first time showed me what it means to be a performer. Dave Matthews is probably the best performer. He is the pinnacle of what I would call a live performer. His shows, they seem so spontaneous. And I think that's where the following comes from for Dave Matthews Band. And his following is incredible. Like, he has probably millions of people that are following him. Like, I don't know another artist in which people will travel from literally one corner of the country to the other. I have a set of friends, and they may or may not be listening. At least one of them will. But I have two friends, and they have traveled from Florida to Washington State, the opposite corner of the United States, to see Dave Matthews Band. And they are not the only ones that have done it. There are thousands, probably hundreds of thousands of people that have made this journey to Washington or to Atlanta or to West Palm Beach. People travel the country following Dave Matthews. They travel the country following Dave Matthews Band as much as they can. It is an incredible following. People call it a cult following. And I'm not part of that following. I'm very new to the Dave Matthews Band scene. I haven't really ever been a fan of the music. But I'm open to experiencing new things. And last night's experience was incredible. This band, this group of artists, got together and produced something that was so entertaining to watch. And so incredibly connecting. Like, you, I was in the lawn. Like, we're talking, I couldn't even see the stage. Like, I could see the lights where the stage were, but I couldn't even see what was on the stage. Like, I was watching the screen. I might as well have been at home in my living room watching this concert. Because I was watching from a screen. When there wasn't people, you know, standing in front of me and passing in front of me and all sorts of other things. So, but the experience of being out there with all of these people that are genuine one-on-ones. 100% committed, loyal fans. I'm talking, they sang every song. They were dancing. They were high-fiving. But people that would look like perfect strangers meeting and hugging and just having a grand old time together. And just, it was incredible to watch and to feel and to be a part of. And then watching the performance and watching them, how they got into their performance and how, I mean, Dave is an incredible performer. I have the most respect and admiration for him. Because the passion and the love that he puts into his music and into his performance is so evident. And the audience can feel it. Like, he loves his fans. He loves his audience. And you can tell. Like, it was my first time seeing him on stage. And I felt like I was a part of something. And there's not many entertainers that can do that. And how we can relate this to ourselves. Like, I'm going to move this and talk. I'm going to talk about how you can use the same things that Dave uses on stage. I'm not saying that you're going to get this amazing cult-like following. No offense. But it is kind of cult-like. It's insane. And they laugh about it. Like, Dave Matthews band fans are incredibly cool and relaxed. So, they laugh about it. But you can do the same things that they do. Like, they have fun. They put a lot of themselves into their art. Like, his personality. He's totally 100% on stage. Like, he gets a little goofy. He gets a little weird. Like, it is totally. You can tell he's totally himself. Like, he's 100% comfortable with letting his true colors show. And his audience loves it. If we can do that same thing. If we can take what he does. And just being himself on stage. And loving what he does. And putting passion into his performance. And towards his audience. Like, that love towards the audience. If we can put that into our shows. Imagine what our audience would feel. Like, if you have ever been to a Dave Matthews band concert. It's not really a concert. It is totally an experience. But if you've ever been to a Dave Matthews band experience. You understand what I'm talking about. Like, you feel a part of it. You feel like you're in this massive Dave Matthews bubble. If you will. And you're just all together. And you're having this experience. And I truthfully don't understand most of the words to the songs. I don't know any of them. I think I might know a couple of lines of one or two. But I didn't have to. You just feel the passion. And you feel that love. And you just let it surround you. And you become a part of something bigger. And being in that audience. And being that audience member. I want to produce that. And I think we should all as performers. Every performer should want to be a part of that. I want to produce that love and that passion towards their audience. And just that glow, if you will. On stage. Of the I love what I do glow. Be yourself on stage. Have fun. People are not going to care if you're goofy. People are going to find you entertaining. Listen. There are literally over 7 billion people on this planet. Most of them are probably Dave Matthews band fans. No. But there are over 7 billion. There are over 7 billion people on this planet. Don't you think that in those 7 billion people, you're going to connect with some of them? A lot of them? A hundred of them? Do you understand that 700 people is literally like a one hundredth of a percent? Or a thousandth of a percent? It's nothing compared to how many people on this world. If you can touch 700 people in your life. If you can connect with 700 people in your life. Would that not make it a fantastic performance career? A fantastic life? Think about that. Being yourself, connecting with people that get you connecting with people that thrive off your energy that you're producing just because you're 100% authentically you on stage and you put love and passion into your performance. That is what I got from my first Dave Matthews band experience. He and they, it's honestly all of them. They all, you can tell. They all. They all have a passion for what they do. They are all incredibly talented musicians and artists and they put a lot of heart into what they do and every performer needs to put that same passion and that same love into what we're producing on stage. This experience taught me so many lessons. It has made me feel touched. I feel like I was a part of something. I feel like something bigger was happening around me. And it was an experience. Truthfully, when you sit down on the lawn, in the seats, wherever, when you sit down at a Dave Matthews band experience, and I'm talking as someone who, I was not a fan, guys. I went for my girlfriend, truthfully. She likes them. She grew up listening to them. I went for her. We were able to snag some tickets for literally free. A friend of ours gave us some tickets, same friends that follow them around the country, gave us a couple of tickets. I went for her, 100%, last minute decision. I left. Feeling connected to all of these people. We all had the same experience. Some of us had an incredibly, a much deeper experience because when you've been following for so long, you feel, you already know you're a part of something. And you know the family and you know the vibe. And as someone new to, quote unquote, the vibe, feeling that vibe and that emotion and that connection that was just throughout the entire audience, it was incredible. And I believe. I believe that there are performers out there that can replicate this. And I'm not talking other celebrities. I'm talking about you. All of you out there that hear this podcast, you are capable of producing that same amount of energy and that same amount of love and passion. And all you have to do, truthfully and honestly, if you take anything away from this experience, and if you've ever had your Dave Matthews Man experience, please think back to it. If you take one thing away from it, whether you're a fan or not, it is that you need to have faith. fun and be yourself on stage. is how you're going to gain the fans. That's how you're going to get the audience to love you. They're not going to love you if they don't know you, and the only way they're going to know you is if you're yourself. If you've stumbled upon this podcast because you're a Dave Matthews Band fan and you thought it was a Dave Matthews Band podcast, I sincerely apologize, but if by chance, please don't hang up just yet.
