Episode 3: From the Factory Floor to the Senate Floor with Gary Clemons
from Clocked In
45m 27s
The D.P. H. Rowan and Rothenburg podcast offers a lively, often humorous take on current NBA and NFL dynamics, centering on the New York Jets’ organizational weaknesses and coaching inefficiencies. The hosts critique the team's lack of a true defensive coordinator, calling out poor game management and a culture of losing. They contrast this with praise for Jalen Brunson's leadership and work ethic, especially in high-pressure games. The discussion also touches on team dynamics, player development, and the emotional toll of championship success. A satirical segment reveals a failed drug test scam involving sample substitution, underscoring workplace ethics. The podcast blends sports analysis with personal anecdotes and playful banter, highlighting themes of accountability, growth, and the unpredictability of sports. Amid these topics, the hosts emphasize the importance of resilience, preparation, and authentic team culture—especially in the face of injuries, pressure, and expectations. The tone remains engaging, blending sharp critique with camaraderie, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at the realities of professional sports.
The NBA on ESPN is happening now, and we're here from all of it.
From the superstar moves to the next gym revolution.
Let's get who we are, boys.
Here's another trade.
Hey!
We don't just love it, we love it, because the NBA is a world of his own.
[MUSIC]
So from the biggest names to the biggest moments, ESPN is where you call home.
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
This is the D.P. H. Rowan, Rothenburg podcast.
Let the wild rumpus begin.
Catch us live weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. on ESPN, New York.
The MSG network and streaming live on YouTube.
[MUSIC]
You look like a believing lead on YouTube.
It amazed me, you don't get pummeled every day.
Our knob is, I would love to believe you are your elite.
If I ever saw you in person, you have the most irritating ugly face.
I'd like, like, believe you.
And this.
It's a nice shape pack.
[MUSIC]
It is non-serving.
[MUSIC]
Like he's got more of a breast than a peck.
You know why?
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
All right, yeah, that's my favorite part of that whole part, that whole thing.
It says not nice, not nice.
Yeah, he's like, why?
Right.
Navigation is brought to by Degas, you know, a lot.
So, talking about the Jets, this courtesy of Rick betting lead off here.
So, on the talking ball podcast, Rick Martin now was guest.
And if you remember, Rick Martin now was almost involved with the Jets, maybe even as a defensive
quarterback.
This is another one, too.
And we just talk about, like, how they handle this whole thing is unbelievable.
That was like on the doorstep, again, that we heard.
He was fine here, just like, just across the tee, he's got the eyes, the whole deal.
Well, somewhere in the process, we started throwing in some different ladders.
And the Dels of the Knacket done, went Martin Dell.
What, what could the Jets use right now?
I think the Jets are a definition, a definition of a losing organization.
He needs to stop trying to call defense and actually manage the game.
Just focus on managing the game because it's too much, too fast, with everything on, especially,
gets hard to do defensively, I think.
And just think of the owner would actually pay for a real defensive coordinator.
They might have a chance to win some more games.
But yeah, but that's not even the, but he's not wrong.
Yeah, buddy, but that's not even like he's just taking shot.
Like, it'd be one thing if you wanted to just say, like, hey, if the owner wasn't so cheap,
he would assign me to a contract.
Like, that's all what he said.
I mean, he, like, at the end of the end of the losing organization.
Well, no, but even like, he's like Aaron Glenn was the one that was going to hire him.
Like, it sounded like they were like, I don't know, buddies is the word to use.
But if they hired a real defensive coordinator, what's his opinion of Aaron Glenn is a defensive coordinator?
Well, so, so I, so I heard that differently.
I'm hearing that as well because, and I made this point a couple of days ago, it feels like,
you know how sometimes you watch a young quarterback and it's like, man, the game is too fast for him.
He's overwhelmed.
Like, it's so sped up.
That's what it feels like for Aaron Glenn, where there's too many things he's got going on.
And now we've got to call a defense.
And if I had been the defensive coordinator, he would have been better at calling the other things.
Like clock management focused on that.
Like the particulars, the minutiae.
He, I'm sorry.
Can we play that cut one more time?
I think the Jets are a definition, definition of a losing organization.
Just focus on managing the game because it's too much, too fast with everything on.
Especially gets hard to do defensively, I think.
And just think of the owner would actually paid for a real defensive coordinator.
So he's not impugning him as a defensive play-corder.
I don't know the word real.
Yeah.
The word real is tough.
I mean, that's almost, I don't know if it's like a subconscious thing he said it.
But if he just said if he had paid for like a defensive coordinator to call the plays,
then it could be different, not a real defensive coordinator.
See, I took that more as a shot at the owner than the head coach.
I felt like shots at everyone.
Everybody.
Everybody.
Yeah.
It's not good.
It'd be like if I was a gap.
They actually paid the money for a real filling when Dave was out.
How does that make you feel good?
Yeah, if I'm like, if they paid for a real co-host when Dave's doing a show,
and that's someone who's just going to, you know, I agree with you, Dave.
I'm not necessarily.
Yeah, right.
But that's not flattering.
Is it?
That's the point.
It's not flattering.
I mean, you know, got a real husband.
Which Cassie, we think you're my guest.
You're Cassie.
Oh, well Cassie's just wondering if you've done more years.
Now we're just throwing hypothetical mean things out of that.
Maybe she just hangs out at the finish line advice like people that actually run the race fast.
Oh, she's actually running the race with me.
How about that?
No, she's not.
Yes, she is.
Why?
Because she wants to run the race.
These poor kids will lose both parents on Sunday.
No, man.
Who's watching the parents for the six hours that you're running?
For the four hours it would be the end loss.
They're actually sleeping over Saturday night so we could get some much needed rest.
Six hours.
Yeah.
It's going to be hot.
He's already making excuses.
I've heard more excuses.
I don't love that.
I don't love that.
It's going to be 62 degrees.
No, I don't love that.
I'd rather it be 42 but hey.
I'm a soldier.
See you on Monday.
Shout out Destiny Show.
I'm going to finish.
Good to see you.
I mean, this is the pet doc you needed.
Yeah.
He sees an inspiration network.
There's a good thing that if an apocalypse happened,
this would be our leader.
Are you going to bring some kind of like headlight in just in case the sun goes down as you're finishing?
Listen, Rick is the leader.
And that's different than Rick the Savior.
I'm not saying everybody would make it under Rick's watch.
I think eventually you don't have to be surprised.
We have to sacrifice some people.
Yeah, you either get on board or you're not going to be around anymore.
Are you burying the lead?
The guy's got a bad back and a bad neck.
And he--
I don't have a bad neck.
Why do you keep saying they have a bad neck?
Because you said it in your commercial.
You got a bad neck.
Yeah, but he would treat this like the Stanley Cup to prove you wrong.
He'd never run again.
This is--
I'm going to be surprised if you got a bad neck.
The way you glaze Dave all the time he's on the show.
Come on, so many right now.
It's just my back, okay?
It's just my back.
My neck is fine.
But they can fix your neck.
Listen, next time.
Maybe if it's through to my read when you were supposed to, instead of half hour late.
Now it's getting rough.
Yeah.
I had--
Right.
Right.
Because we won't pay for a real host.
That's what the brother--
Now there's hypothetical--
Had turned to real things.
It's a gift, by the way.
He's not following me on Twitter.
We call you the Kirkland Dave Rothenberg.
And what do we call you as the--
Here's the Chris Middleton.
Now he's one of the champions.
Ooh, Puma.
Oh, I'm going to get a Pona Bologna and some Puma's.
Listen, don't mock John Ketchips I can get.
Don't mock John's shopping.
Listen, dude.
He's the only person I know that buys every pair of sneakers he owns from Costco.
And I'm like--
Ooh, Puma.
He picks from Costco?
Yeah, Puma.
All those Puma's Costco.
Oh, he's the owner of all the money he's making, he's getting kicked in time.
It's because he's putting extensions.
He's got 12 kids, and he's got extensions on the house.
But just the way he talked about how he--
Rick complemented his shoes one time, and he was giving the--
He was just regaling us with the story of how he found them.
He turned the corner, he goes, "Oh, Puma's."
That stuck with me.
Um, Dan Campbell, he made some people mad over the weekend.
Dave very mad.
He haven't heard from Dave on the show very much.
Aside from those 10 minutes he gave us on Monday or whatever day that was.
But Dave first in line.
I'm not happy with Dan Campbell the way he handled that situation.
So at some point you have to be an adult.
I was like, "Well, that point is not yet now."
Not yet now.
So he goes for it out on his own 24-yard line.
Late night game against the Packers.
Tied 17, 17.
And he gets bailed out, obviously.
Missed field goal, and down the lines, and they end up winning the game.
But Dan Campbell has asked about, like, so aggressive, for a down.
You think he'll ever change?
I think it's just part of my flavor and what I believe in a little bit.
You guys ever seen Uncle Bock?
I think I'm a little bit like his fedora, the hat that he wears.
It's a little bit of a flavor.
It's my favorite hat.
But just a mere sigh of it, I think, really bothers a lot of people.
So I always think Uncle Bock a little bit, man.
But John Candy's wearing that.
Is it the hat?
The hat?
Anyway.
But I get it.
And listen, everybody's different.
And it doesn't mean right wrong.
Or, you know, it's really what you believe in.
There's no right or wrong.
It's what you really believe is going to help you win the game.
Well, that's not true.
Because we saw it against RJ's Niners three years ago
in the NFC Championship.
Yeah.
There was a right and wrong.
The game was a concept.
That game was. That felt as close to being over as a game could be.
There's proof of concept.
Yeah, but it's your. I mean, at the end of the day, though, like whatever this is you make,
it's on your team to make you right and wrong.
Right, he'll tell you that the analytics give you,
why don't it was like a 4% better chance to win in that spot?
And then if it didn't work out,
he'd get the ball back and give his team a chance.
But, I mean, yeah, when you make decisions like that,
you'll leave yourself open for a bunch of criticism
and neither works or doesn't.
Fortunately for him, they missed the field goal.
They line up off sides and. Well, they've done a line-up offense.
They took a. They jumped off sides and they win the football game.
So that's it.
He should have thought about accepting dependency,
or declining dependency, I should say.
Yeah, that's Aaron.
That does that.
His situation felt like just a provider of we're going to go out,
we're going to line up.
We're going to be better than you on this play, and we're going to get it.
We're going to pick this up.
And then we'll worry about the rest later.
And it didn't happen.
I mean, I know the analytics and I get it.
It just feels like he's just going to let that thing rip when he feels like it.
And sometimes it's going to work.
It feels dangerous.
It feels dangerous.
It feels reckless at times.
Yeah, it is.
It feels like maddened, like you're playing maddened.
Uh, yes.
I would agree.
You ever get those those spam text messages offering your job?
Yes.
I just got offered a job that only takes 60 minutes per day,
and I'll make $5,300 a week.
So how?
I'm going to.
What is it like?
Is it like a.
I'm not going to say the name of the company that they're pretending.
I don't even know the company.
But what does the company do?
Oh, no.
There's a high end.
Oh, sorts of stuff.
Oh, high end.
Really?
Oh, yeah.
Really high end.
But there's only 18 spots left.
So I better get on it. You should put all the information in now. Yeah, I better get on this. Is this the woman specifically your bank account today?
Naked with a crate. No, I she could probably use that job. I
Should have given her some money or something
Let's give you a free show. Yeah
By the way, I haven't read the text yet. Cassie just sent me the screenshot upstairs neighbors lengthy text message. Not happy this morning
Oh, how thin of the walls you don't give me you're not talking that loud. I'm on the verge of making 300 grand for 60 minutes a day
I think we're overlooking they these are the real topics. Yeah
So oh, by the way, I was looking I would what did I watch I just showed something in the day
Who's the good the head of the cartel is a Pablo Escobar Pablo Escobar. Yeah, do you see him?
He was making like they said some crazy number like 420 million bucks a week something nuts like that sure at one point
They said like he did there was no heat. He was burning he burned through like two million dollars to keep his kids warm as like
Is like instead of fight. I had no firewood. So we just burn money the money on fire with the money on fire
Of course they have cocaine hippos or something
Because they were buried on the mic. He was like I'm just gonna probably lose some of his money cuz I got a bury it
And we'll just we won't find it, but it's actually smart
Somebody will one day somebody well. All right, Kevin's defense kit little reunion game on Sunday Baker may feels
Kevin's defense he was asked about it took the high road. Yeah, he's still he's a playmaker
He's no plays ever over
He's just gonna constantly make plays down the field. He can run. He's extremely talented
He's talented felkins bucks on Sunday Baker over to the Tampa quarter back now
You talked to Kevin's a fanski lately
No, I'm spoken to him since 2021
No, I'm doing all right. It's now 2026. He's full of crap
A is going to be
Shot out of a cannon. That is Baker Bayfield. No, not chill. Yeah
I hope they haven't wired up because it's gonna be some good song coming on that one. Yes, it will be well
You remember he was mic'd up when he when they played the Panthers. Yeah, this still like three years ago Steve Wilkes guts. He couldn't stand him
He could I mean Jets fans do too
Wade Phillips he was on the man he cast on Monday
Did you catch any of this so?
He obviously
Some Dallas ties there. He was asked about
Philadelphia's defense and what he was seeing at the time and what was eventually a 38-21 loss by the Eagles to the Cowboys
Wade Phillips coach. Thanks for stopping by to teach Peyton how defense works even though we're not seeing much of that here tonight
I don't think we're saying any
There's only two plays that they can't stop. That's a run and a pass
Cool, you take that to heart. That's tough. I mean that's a shot right at John boy getting dunked on by Wade
Falls call
Yeah, that's not great. That's not great. Um, here's the question. Here's the question to the group. Yeah
If Nick Seriani got fired
Shane Stiken, baby, would you hire if you're the Jets would you hire? So here's the here's the four here's the thing
I know that's gonna be a lot of people snap reaction. They put a graphic up on
the who had the
Best winning percentage. He wins. Yeah, was it on ESPN over over the Monday for baby
It had to be it had to be an idea Rick you saw as well. I think he had the fourth highest winning percentage among qualified coaches in terms of like minimum games coach ever
Guy wins, man. I worked as I wins, but bomb, but he's got an absolutely loaded roster or he did
Right, I mean is the Jets the Jets the void of talent not the void of talent anymore. Tell you what?
There's talent up and down that roster, right? I mean, we can't just like the guys won 70% of his games
We can't just dismiss that as as nothing in a league where we say coaching matters more than any other sport
Call him up Rick. I
Could see if he's interested. I think he's got to keep the Philly job, but they've been he's dealt with the Philly media
Call the deal to deal with this call those are
Seriani Woody Johnson meetings yikes
There's gonna be so there's gonna be I mean every coaching cycle is interesting, but this year potentially
I mean because like McDermott's daughter you mentioned Seriani Mike Tomlin's hanging around out there Brian Flores
The way he coaches his defense is to is to not just hit quarterbacks, but like like physically harm them like here
Where's he blitz blitzing 80% of the time some of these games? So he's disguising blitzes with blitzes
Yes, he
He blitzed ain't no Jones 85% of it. Yeah, you know disrespectful. That is you're just never gonna figure this out
So we're just gonna keep doing it. It's like it's mad and like you said, but like a much higher level like you can't solve this
And then when you think you solved it. Oh, this blitz that looks like this other blitz
No, it turns out it's a whole different blitz
Anyways, I mean, but look at the job openings and it's probably available though Cincinnati
It could be available. It can't be the day
tap Washington Washington, Philly
Jets
Yeah, I don't like what we fall in that list though
Well, you wonder if at some point they get ahead of it. You start interviewing candidates and already on the market so you can get those out of the way
We'll see I think big dirt lands though after the speech he gave
To the bills probably not here. Yeah, not great. Yeah, all right. Jalen Brunson
He was also on the manning cast and they were showing low lights of Eli Manning being sacked and hit by Eagles defenders over his career
And was asked to react to that and my friend. How can you root for a team that did this to me? I mean look at this
I feel all out of nobody, but I would say I would say this what hurt more that for the Pumper turn
Oh, oh, wow Wow
Well, shotgun I know where I jalen jalen Brunson's big 38 point game last night over the bulls
Um, I never I mean it's the like patents is like on lot. No, all over the place
I don't speak ill of pain. I love paid manning, but it's like I got painting manning and paint. There's everywhere the man's gotten dorseman
It's okay
He's got partners. I know remember 10th when it touches real quick Celtic six or so this is already starting
That's when Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown will square off for the first time and the back of force already started
So this was the very innocuous Jason Tatum on his relationship with jalen brunson
It should be
Celebrated right, I know many people playing his league and never went to the finals
We went twice and won a championship so it should be more about that like
And say no
Jack and Kobe like isn't snow be for it. You know, I don't there's not about that. It should be more
You know
craze and you know, I understand that don't necessarily sell and drama gets
Clicks and views, but I'm not like really into
That's not like my thing. All right, so nothing there, right? Well, Dylan Brown. I saw that he said
It's just no beef and I think he's right
There's no beef no Jason comes from a wonderful family
We've accomplished some great things. He's a hell of a basketball player
He got a great PR team. There's no beef, but
You know, it might be a little lamb chops and some gravy
You know, I mean you should stay ready at all time just a little something. Wow. He ate with that. That's saying Tatum's a little phony
Grit PR team. Grit PR team was phony this by the way
What are you okay, but let me ask you a question though. What do you think the conversation is going to be about
When you've been to a champion when you've been to an NBA finals and won an NBA championship if all of a sudden now we can't we can't get along
And if and if wow, so last year here. Here's the biggest issue for me. Yeah, I said at the end of the year
When Jaylen Brown's that was my favorite season most friends ever had
You blew a three-one lead in the playoffs
I did the best player the second best player however you want to view it was rehabbing from a toy in the kitties
You've won a championship. You all went to six of eight eastern conference finals. How was that your favorite season ever?
Listen, it's like it's like you get married half kids. It's like well. What was your favorite weekend in the air?
I got to add to the apartment the kids right there in laws. I was just I was
3 a.m. That's what party was the best
That gets insane
It's like but but you had these moments you want a championship you got married and you had the kids all these great moments like
Boy that bar three. I was I was getting mine
listen
I once went championship say timelines change, right? I'm team say them
I want to see Tatum win the league in VP and I I don't know how this ended up being controversial on Twitter here today
Uh, if he wins the league in VP and he hit that
game-winning shot against the nets
That's more from a legacy standpoint impactful than Jaylen Brown winning a finals MVP
Yeah, yeah, it's just historically true in the NBA damn Brown was so good during those finals
Um, and one more for you
So Jesse LaGrieve
I wouldn't expect to know who that is
Yeah, he played for Oregon State and this is what we're doing now
We're talking play a coach football with Heather Denich
Uh, and you went on CVS sports and you would assume like he's announcing maybe he's transferring
Maybe this is a high school player on an announcement day with the hats
No, no, we play for Oregon State and he wants to tell you what is the major announcement you want to make to the country
I hear will be signing to Oregon State Beavers for twenty twenty seven to twenty twenty eight seasons
He's staying with Oregon State
Great
That's a nice announcement
That's a nice announcement
I could mention LeBron during the decision and now it's he was staying in Cleveland
That's what that was yeah, I'm taking my talents
Practically back home
Uh, that was the observations brought to my deck
It's been a lot 35 years have getting accident victims and social security disability clients every dollar
They deserve to have offices in New York
They have offices in New Jersey
Where aren't they
They're on the forward one eight hundred by back. That's one eight hundred two four eight three two two two
Tagasino
Long bite
- Back!
- You got to pass on a parachute!
- No, sir!
- It happened.
- So you were doing all kinds of drugs
and ran through a gate?
- It's my part, you know what I mean?
- What cake did I get for?
- Oh, no!
- Florida?
- And ask how the substances got there, quote?
- I don't know anything about any cocaine.
It's a windy day.
It must have flown through the window
and into my boat.
(upbeat music)
- Boy, this job opportunity's only getting better.
It'll offer me more money now.
- Well, yeah.
- Take me and look at me.
- I'd, I mean, there's so much to say.
I can't leave you guys.
There's no one more productive.
- There's no one more productive.
(laughing)
- Per square inch of the most productive person I have.
- That's, that's, that's the tremendous compliment.
- And also not nice.
- Oh!
- Mo gave us this one.
So, isn't it more impressive
when Spudweb dunked the basketball?
- Maybe.
- Right.
- Yeah, but it's still, you know, disrespectful.
A person a place.
So, I had an upcoming drug test.
At a workplace.
Obviously, the boss has had an eye on this person.
- And he's the wizzinator.
- Yeah, so he thought he had a workaround similar to that.
So he knew he would fail.
And didn't want to get popped for a positive dust.
So, what does this person do?
He goes to the center of which you have to drop off the sample.
- It's a man, yep.
- Yep.
And that's an important detail actually.
So, he's at the center and he must have found,
I don't know, an open door somewhere he shouldn't have been.
Somehow, he got his hands on another sample.
- Oh no, it's true.
- I'm gonna pull the old switcheroo
because worst case scenario.
- He's pregnant.
- They figure out that, hey, it's not mine, whatever,
but I can listen, I need more time.
But at least they could say,
well, maybe they switched it up with the gentleman
that was in front of me or what happened.
Well, Rick, I hope you didn't see this one.
- No.
- Because the results come back.
- Also positive.
- So, drug test negative.
- Pregnancy.
- Pregnancy.
- Oh no.
- Positive.
(laughing)
- That's unfortunate.
(laughing)
- You got work to do, buddy.
- Wait, can't you see the names?
- Yes.
- I think you switched the actual names.
- He switched it, but I don't know how,
I don't know how he got his hands on it,
but he switched the sample.
Yes.
Did this happen in Florida?
- Oh.
- Oh man.
- I mean, at that point, you have to,
I mean, yo, what do you do there at that point?
I mean, he's gotta stick with it.
- I think you said, thank you.
- How do you know I'm not pregnant?
- My baby shower will be on it in December.
- Bruce, I'll introduce you to say I can't carry this baby.
- Yeah.
- I'll dare you.
- Yeah, you gotta go all in.
- Yeah.
- Yeah, then it becomes like a hate crime, you know?
- I got no real feel for this.
- This feels New York, I'm gonna be honest.
'Cause I've had friends do stuff like this.
- Friends.
- You need some new friends, then.
- No, like dad, hey, can you help me out?
Bong, bong.
- How can you pee in this cup for me?
(laughing)
- I've had friends, have you,
you don't have any friends who've done that?
- No.
- Come on.
- That's great.
Talk to me, Ray.
- I can't, I can't verify that.
- Come on now.
- Then ask their parents?
I don't know if I have a friend that asked his parents
like, hey, can you pass me?
- Pat's wild.
- Pat's wild.
- Pat's wild.
- Pat's wild.
- Pat's wild.
- No, but my boy's had a job opportunity
and he hid his pops up to, you know?
- His pops just wanted him to get a job,
was he living with his parents?
- Get out of the house.
- Get the hell out of the house.
I'll pee in whatever you want.
(laughing)
- I'm gonna say no, no Florida.
- I'll tell you what though, like having been drug tested
numerous times, like the world championships
and the Olympics and everything else.
It's, I don't know how much different it is
'cause I've never been like this kind of tested,
but that guy does not leave you side.
He is at the urinal with you.
I mean, he is stuck, he is.
You gotta pull your shirt up above your nipples
and he is just checking you out.
- I gotta tell you, there's not a chance
my dad would ever do that for me.
- No, zero chance.
- My dad's the best.
My dad told me at a young age,
you're old enough not to make your own decisions.
If you ever get arrested,
just know I'm not coming to get you.
- Well, he doesn't mean that.
- I think he does.
I, this was one of those, I'd be more afraid to go home
than to the place.
- Yeah, did not get it, did not get it.
- Yes, yeah.
- I say no, no Florida.
- And my dad's the best.
- That was a very clear line anyways.
- Oh, not in Florida, brick.
- I'll go Florida.
- That's, I was wrong last time.
I think Ty's wrong again.
Ty stinks at this game.
Just like he stinks at running.
I will go Florida.
- That's not nice, right now.
- Feels like a true coin flip situation.
I'll go Florida.
- Wow, we have two Florida's and a nine.
Well, the Florida's have it.
Tampa.
- Oh man.
- I should know, Tampa.
- Yeah, maybe you're in Los.
Know these people.
- Yeah, maybe it is.
Maybe it was my good news.
I'm in Los.
- That's Steve.
- Maybe it was your in Los.
I beat you to that joke.
- Could be, I don't know.
- I beat you to it.
- I beat you to it.
- Yeah, listen, you're a funny guy.
You're a really funny guy.
I can see why Nick right likes you so much.
- I can see why Rothenberg likes you.
- Oh, look at this.
- Steve has to, RJ, it always, you know what,
we could sickle go.
It'll come back.
- Yeah, I can see why Michael K adores you.
He swears by at least you know.
At least you get it.
- I get it, man.
Listen, what's the phrase?
What we have, doesn't have to be explained.
What's real, doesn't have to be explained.
I'm screwing it up.
- It's like that, yeah.
- So much understanding of that.
- So much understand.
- Doesn't have to be explained.
- Harry Douglass here.

This message, if his job is literally to talk loudly
at odd hours, you know, she's going to hand, man.
And think about it.
So I had because of the long segment,
I had to sit on that for 40 minutes.
Cassie sends me the screenshot.
I couldn't, I couldn't read it because, you know,
I'm engaged.
I'm paying attention.
So I had to sit on that for 40 minutes without being able
to read it.
So once we get to break,
I see what she's saying, she's going ham, bro.
Oh yeah.
I don't, you don't even talk in loud, though.
I don't understand.
Like you're not, you haven't yelled the kids.
Where is this?
Where is the apartment?
How is it above you?
You know, if we're in the court of law and, you know,
your honor, I would like to present my case.
She's also a liar.
Because this past Sunday, she complained
when I was doing a New York game day,
I was in for Jake Asman with Tana Bon from eight to noon.
And so I said to show again, starts at eight o'clock.
I sat in my seat in the office at seven 20.
Yeah.
I heard footsteps for like the next 20 to 30 minutes.
She's awake and then at eight o'clock,
she's not complaining that I woke her up.
So she's also lying.
Yeah, well, I think she's fed up.
I mean, you just talk about me.
Why do I?
You let me stretch the truth?
'Cause you're talking loudly at hours.
That's why.
The job is to talk.
That's my job.
Just wake up in a minute or night and just start screaming.
Yeah.
Hey, just talk loud.
What's your job?
I just speak loud.
It's like RJ getting the text from, you know, the spam.
You can make fun of us today.
Just scream loudly at odd hours.
She's lost it.
You gotta just get some,
you gotta get some soundproofing up in that office, man.
Yeah.
So this is a me problem.
You guys feel for her at all?
No, I don't feel for it at all.
But I just, I mean, just make your life easier
by getting some soundproofing.
Like what happened today?
What happens if you, okay, here's,
it would be my question to her though.
Well, that's a lot of words.
I'm just getting around reading this.
Say it wasn't your job though.
Say you had a, you had a family member somewhere
that you had to talk to on the phone at this time of the day
every day because it didn't, just how it lined up.
Could you hear you talking on the phone?
'Cause it didn't sound like you're talking much louder
than you were talking on the phone.
I'm just, I'm talking normally.
I don't understand.
Wow, something this obstructive.
Yeah, very obstructive.
I think she meant obstructive and trusive.
Maybe both.
I think she meant a trusive.
Chat GPT kind of text message.
I think she meant intrusive.
That feels like a like Dave trying to, you know,
can, yeah, what does he say?
Dot the T-leaves or connect the T-leaves?
That's right.
He excruciated up.
Literally talk loudly about our, yeah.
Oh, by the way, here's something else
that stands out about the screen shot to your son.
Yeah.
And that happens to be in the top left corner.
There's a number there that troubles me.
Oh, two hundred and fifty six.
Two hundred and fifty six left on red.
Yeah.
Two hundred and fifty six.
Listen, that's not me.
That's, this is screen shots from cast.
That's a big number, man.
That's like, I got what's hurt, what's hurt your job
to do loudly at odd hours?
Listen to that.
Yo, kids were in school yesterday.
She got home early because I sent her a little complaint
message.
I said, baby girl.
Listen, I know we got the marathon coming up.
I'm excited, but our numbers are pretty low.
So this is your problem, though.
You don't need to start focusing on the number.
Like, you're so focused on the numbers.
No, it's not really the number.
It's the quality.
It was just the quality.
You're right.
But, you know, I was feeling away.
You start to get antsy.
You get annoyed sometimes.
Like, when, when, when I don't have those same issues.
I should ask Winthrop.
No, he's not backed up at all either.
Winthrop.
He runs away from it, which I don't understand.
She chases him.
I don't understand that.
But I wanted to say to you was contrary to
what you have been spewing the last couple of weeks,
we actually don't argue a lot because we're kind of aligned
in our takes and actually thought about you last night
watching the nicks and what felt like a game
they stole on the road.
And I don't know, it's weird because they're the better team.
But one of the biggest challenges is going to be games
like that.
They're down 19 in the third quarter to a,
it's not Michael Jordan's bulls.
It's Caleb Wilson.
It's Norman Powell, shout out to him. He got his first
all-star appearance last year and a bunch of young cats.
And you can let go of the rope.
Now 19 is just not our second night of a back-to-back.
But they were like, no, man, here comes Jordan Clarkson.
Here comes Lange's shaman hitting a bunch of threes.
And then of course, we've got the best closer
and all the basketball.
So if the game's close late, we can do that.
And Jalen Brunson had his best performance of the season.
They get a couple of scares. Cat goes down.
You had a shaman who I mentioned goes down
with the ankle injury.
Yes, OG banged his head.
But the Nix needed some adversity to lock themselves back in.
And now back-to-back nights, they come up with what I thought
were impressive victories at home against the pistons.
Then I think they got into Chicago at 2 a.m.
So 17 hours.
There was like 3 a.m.
Yeah, 2 a.m. 3 a.m.
And then they come back to beat a bull's team.
It's not good, but still considering the circumstances,
I found it being impressive victory.
It sounds like Jalen Brunson actually
went to shoot around too.
Yeah, early enough.
To work on a shot, which is, I mean, again,
is a testament to him.
And I think it's what gives you some level of comfort
knowing that the guys built different.
I'm not concerned about Jalen Brunson
being getting complacent or allowing his teammates
to be complacent.
The idea that they started on 3, it's not what you wanted,
but it is what it is.
And then get the big win, even after I mean,
after for a bad first quarter, too, against Detroit.
To bounce back like they did in the second and the third
and play great defense.
And then again, you just want to championship.
You're the toast to the town.
Everyone's calling you King Brunson and everything else
to get into the city at 2, 3 o'clock in the morning.
And then be like, no, no, no, I got to go work on my shots
stinks right now.
I got to go work on it.
Like when that's your captain doing that,
it makes you like there's a level of comfort you feel
as a fan that roots for that team that like he's got this,
he's got this thing where it needs to be.
By the way, Rick, a lot of teams are resting
their guys last night in a game like that.
We get in, you know, my speakers rested Luka.
In Luka didn't play last night, they won.
But coming off of a championship, and it's not just last year,
it's we've had multiple playoff runs that went deep into May.
And now there's some wear and tear.
You do worry a little bit about Michele Bridges
and what he's put on display to start the season.
I got to say, man, this is now back to back years
where Cat deserves a shout out.
He's been their best player so far.
Last year, hovering over him was the Yannis stuff.
This year, it's the contract.
It just hasn't seemed to affect him.
He's been awesome.
A different though.
Right, I mean, yeah, listen, I give him credit too,
but it's a little bit different, right?
They can mean, talk about, I love it here.
I don't want to get traded to, I'd like $200 and what?
$76 million, but they already offered me $200 million.
So it's like, you're going to get $200 million.
So you're in a pretty good spot.
- Yeah, but there's also a world that exists
where you may not get it here.
- Well, no, but he could get that here now if he wanted it.
- Oh, he can, but he wants more, obviously.
I mean, $76 million, I don't care how rich you are.
That's a big thing, especially 'cause you earned it, right?
'Cause you felt like you deserved it.
I mean, you don't want to, I mean, that's the money
that you earned.
But I thought you're job to figure out the salary
this second apron?
- Yeah, but I wanted to give him some lunches
because it just doesn't feel like,
since he's been here, he's had that full embrace
because even when he got it post championship,
people are going at him.
Yeah, why are you being, why are you being so selfish?
Jalen took a discount.
And I just think his start to the season has been,
it has been incredible.
So the next get the win last night after winning last time,
then we got a big one tomorrow night.
They go to Philly to play the Sixers.
Should be fun.
- Yeah, it'll be fun, especially after what you saw
in the first game.
And I think Philly is the one team that you would point,
not the one team, but one of the teams in the East
you would point to has a real threat.
- Do you think that, you think that,
Pistons game was like perfect for them to kind of reset,
'cause they get up for the Pistons after what we saw last year.
- Yeah.
- You think they was kind of like the perfect moment
to have that game. - Yeah, I would also say to you,
like to your point about the Lakers,
you know, sitting Luca, you know,
teams would usually manage this different.
If I get the, if like I'm Mike Brown,
and I mean, I feel like he gets the sense early in the season
where he's talking about, yeah, you know,
what I pooped out is thinking they,
like that they feel pretty good about themselves.
So like, let's, let's make sure we use these opportunities
early in the season to let everyone, no, no.
Like the regular season still does matter.
Right, if you thought, if you thought your team felt
a little accidental or a little complacent,
you wouldn't want to start the season,
you know, just resting guys in it because it's a back,
you know what I mean?
Like, especially when you get off to an '03 start,
you just want a big game against Detroit.
It's like, okay, let's make sure we keep emphasizing
that we do have to put our best foot forward in the,
in the regular season to give ourselves the best chance
to go repeat his champions.
- Love what I see from Jordan Clarkson last night.
A night after where he doesn't, he hasn't really been playing,
but when called upon, he goes in there and he lights it up.
Hit some big shots.
And Jordan Clarkson has never met a shot.
He didn't want to take.
The problem for him is like, defensively,
he leaves a lot to be desired,
but he was one of the unsung heroes,
him along with Lange Shaman.
- Thanks for listening to the D.P. Atro
and Rothen Brood podcast.
- Bring it.
- Looking for more access to the show.
- Why?
- 'Cause you know why follow us at ER on ESPN.
- Is that about the Rick D.P. Atro?
Or should I say the number one evoke it
for the zombie apocalypse?
Like if you are in trouble,
who would you want at the station to help,
you know, orchestrate the whole situation?
It would be one Rick D.P. Atro.
So I'm actually honored to do this show alongside you.
- Yeah, just if you need protection,
and I'm here for you, you know?
- Me only use protection like that anymore.
- No, no, no, I don't believe in it.
- No, we don't do that.
899-937-766.
to go to the phone lines Edgar and Bloomingdale wants to talk to them next. What's up Edgar?
What's up boys you know typical mixed fashion come back the captain clutch came through
I called Jordan Clarkson buckets McGee because he just loves to put up buckets but I want
to talk drumming 11 boards I don't know I think I don't I don't want to say he has better
basketball like he even makes but I think he's better around the basket catching passes
he actually can pump fake a little throw a little hook shot when this just either was
an alley or a defensive rebound it'll give you much what do you guys think I wouldn't
say I think you're under rating mitches impact he was defense I think defensively yeah
he was a complete game changer on defense the offensive rebound also don't like you know
put that off as nothing because when you've got and we appreciate the call when you've
got a team as gifted and as talented as the nicks are on offense getting second and
third possession opportunities for shooters like that's a massive swing so just imagine
how demoralizing it is for a team to play defense for 12 second 24 straight seconds offensive
rebound then you get it for 14 seconds offensive rebound and now OG hits a three it just fractures
you as a as a basketball team so I hate when we do this though this is like one of the things
that drives me the most crazy you think why can't we just celebrate like I mean Mitch was
a part of the championship team it was a really good player for us I mean I would have liked
to have keep you know kept Mitch didn't work out I mean is is Andre Drummond so you're so
far early in the season feel like a good pick up yeah I think offensively he is he's better
than Mitch's right that's the reality like he is a better offensive player than Mitch is he
also got benched in what was that the I want to say was the south six game in a second half
where you know Mike Brown wasn't happy with the effort level saw listen it's this thing
we do where it always becomes like a comparative analysis because he's replacing Mitch we find
all the things he does better I think the next will miss Mitchell Robinson not to the extent
that folks wanted to pretend it was like it was a dead sentence there's still a really
good basketball team they're obviously going to make some noise they're my pick once again
to come out the eastern conference going to be a tough season just as far as like revving
up the engine the urgency in the desperation for a Wednesday night game in October against
the bulls but over the course of the year because you have guys like how even Josh Hart
Rick and I believe them when he said this like throughout the offseason they got to a point
where he was as tired of hearing about the championship it's like enough already he's
not saying that you know disrespectfully to the next he's just like I'm tired of hearing
about how good we are I want to play basketball again because that these are hoopers that they're
not going to you know revel in the elation in the joy of winning one championship they're
added for more they obviously think that they can win another championship and so I thought
that it was important for Josh to kind of set the tempo with that kind of with him saying
that those things this past off season right I think I mean nice to see you earlier about
Jayden Brunson I think take the leadership that they have in place it makes me makes me
feel good about our our chances because I don't think that yeah I don't think complacency
is going to be why we don't know get back to NBA finals I mean could it be just I mean
you went so deep last year and it's just that they get at a certain point like it's just
it's a lot is that I mean is that one of the reasons why teams haven't repeated is it I
mean is it just you know injury and that's another big thing you're holding your breath like
I mean cat goes down last night and then OG hits a set it's like like that's a right that's
a reality like for teams doing championships something like things have to line up right
like you got a times it's luck man look at it makes so it makes it so silly right and it
kind of reifies like this notion of dynasty like Oklahoma City a couple years wins the
championship and we do it with every team are they the next dynasty and now you see what's
happening with them Jay does out and and definitely a bunch of injuries case and while this
is out and yeah the NBA's got a bunch of injuries so some of it is to your point you just
get lucky like you can do all the work you got to have some some bit of injury left yeah
there's a lot that goes into it right and I mean it's the battle of the tradition also
like I mean you're playing that deep emotionally trying to get yourself back that's the big one
I mean I just like again I the only run I've ever made is as deep as the finals was when
I was with Bridgeport and we got always like it was like June 10th like you feel like physically
you feel brutal mentally it's just like you've been through the grind and at all it's like
okay can I get myself rent back up and these guys got to do it for any two more games
so they get to where they actually you know where they're actually trying to get to which
is the playoffs because once you get yourself to that point man it's hard like I can't even
imagine what it was like last night getting it three you're playing the bulls on a Wednesday night
in the back to back it's like that's a that's a bring your own energy kind of game you know
