Ep. 2529 - Why Europe's Cities Are Breaking Down

This transcript is a political commentary broadcast combining advertisements with extended conservative analysis. The host promotes Daily Wire content, GOP early-voting initiatives, and sponsor products before launching into a lengthy critique of global left-wing movements. He frames riots in France and Italy as the product of a "red-green alliance" between communists and radical Islamists, arguing that social welfare spending is not the cause and citing immigration and demographic statistics as evidence of Western decline. He accuses leaders like Macron of weakness and blames progressive movements for fostering violence. Turning to the U.S., he attacks Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed over alleged Muslim Brotherhood sympathies, criticizes JD Vance's debate performance, and defends the Trump administration against accusations of targeting Ilhan Omar while accusing Obama and Democrats of weaponizing government. He also covers Elon Musk's SpaceX share giveaway, defends self-driving cars, criticizes Trump's Russia sanctions waiver and treatment of Zelensky, and dismisses Matthew McConaughey's independent-party proposal. The broadcast closes with a membership pitch and a brief satirical note on Larry David.

Folks, a military thriller can give you elaborate conspiracies, international threats, and enormous action sequences. But if you don't actually care about the people, who carry out the mission, none of that means much. And this is why The Terminalist is awesome. The people behind the mission. It's just great. The show is awesome. I love Terminalist. It really is great. Chris Pratt returns as Navy SEAL Commander James Reese in The Terminalist Season 2, now streaming only on Prime Video. It's adapted from Jack Carr's best-selling novel, True Believer. This season sends Reese into a fight that tests his loyalty, his sense of purpose, and the bonds with the brothers he thought he'd left behind. Tom Hopper returns as Rafe Hastings, who's an awesome character, alongside returning favorites Constance Wu, Dar Salim, and Luke Hemsworth, with Gabriel Luna joining the cast as Freddie Strain. And the commitment to military authenticity goes way beyond putting somebody in the right uniform. Real-world military experience is embedded throughout the production, from the writer's room and the director's chair to technical advisors, on-screen roles. This is realistic stuff. The people making this series are committed to getting it all right for the people who have actually lived it. And that matters when you're telling a story about what service asks of individuals, what it asks of their families, and the sacrifices that very rarely we get to see. Of course, you're going to get the high-stakes thrill. But you're also going to get a story about loyalty, impossible choices, and the brotherhood forged under extraordinary pressure. Watch The Terminalist, season two, on October 21st, only on Prime.
Speaker 2Paris is burning.
Speaker 1So is Marseille. So is Lyon. So is Limoges. And so is Milan, Italy. This is not about education policy. It's not about. It's not about cuts to social programming. It's about people who want to destroy the West. Period. And we know them by their flag. It's not the French flag. It's not even the flag of communism. It is the flag of violent third-worldism and hatred of the West. It is this flag. And it is everywhere. So here's what we're seeing, the attempted destruction of a civilization. That's what we're watching right now. And that is the dream of radical Muslims and third-world Muslims. The third-world is imported to France. It's also the dream of the communists in France and throughout the West. It's the dream of Jean-Paul Sartre, the nihilist philosopher, who wrote an introduction to a book called The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon. Back in the 1960s, that book was about Algerian revolt against French rule. And it was really about the evils of colonialism. And Jean-Paul Sartre wrote this introduction on behalf of the French, in which he said, quote, to shoot down a European is to kill two birds with one stone, to destroy an oppressor, and the man he oppresses at the same time. There remains a dead man and a free man. It's our turn to tread the path step by step, which leads down to native level. But to become natives altogether, natives meaning moral people, our soil must be occupied by a formerly colonized people, and we must starve of hunger. And the French decided to take that really, really, really literally. So this is a picture of Limoges Town Hall. It was built in the 19th century, according to Reuters, and it survived two world wars. Torched by a masked mob during the worst unrest that convulsed France in years. Here's what this beautiful building looked like after the rioters got through with it. As you can see, it was totally torched. The roof is absolutely gone. The local prefect, Maurice Barat, said that the roof had caved in onto lower floors, sparing only the West Wing, and that large parts of the exterior had been destroyed. It was a listed monument that opened in 1883. It was inspired by Paris' City Hall. It was a heritage catastrophe, he said. Okay, well, what we are watching right now is a major revolt by people who despise France, despise their own civilization, despise it. Not unique to France. It's there in Italy. It's there in Britain. It's there in the United States, as we'll talk about. According to the French interior minister, a person named Laurent Nunez, he claims that there were 550,000 people protesting and rioting across France, including over 100,000 in Paris. Union organizer estimated there were total participation, somewhere between 800,000 and 1 million people who showed up. Many of them engaged in protests and a huge number engaged in rioting. This is reminiscent of BLM with the mostly peaceful but partly fiery protests. Over 600 police officers and firefighters have been injured. There have been over 2,000 arrests. 855 of those arrests were in Paris alone. This has now surpassed the Yellow Vest protests from 2018 in terms of arrests. Again, these sorts of riots are not. rare in France, unfortunately, but these are of outstanding size and quality and they've now become transnational, as we'll discuss. And as I say, the flag that is being waved most often is the flag of, wait for it, the Palestinians. As always, because the Palestinian flag is a stand-in for failure and hatred of the West. That's what it is. The Palestinian flag is all about the idea that terrorism, evil, violence are all justified because of supposed Western colonialism and imperialism. That is why, you're seeing the French wave it. And it's not just, by the way, imports from the third world or radical Muslim migrants who've been allowed in. It's also just normal French citizens. These people, by the way, some of these people, they look really like native Frenchmen, right? I mean, you may have noticed that a lot of third world imports over there in France. Here's more rioters whooping for the cameras in Paris. You can see here, one of these guys wearing a keffiyeh, again, a symbol of the supposed evils of the West. Good old time as they ransacked Paris. Well, a lot of faces that don't look particularly native to France, shall we say. Here are police vehicles being pelted in the Republic area of Paris. Here's a police vehicle just driving down the street. And these would be terrorists and criminals who are literally running at the police officer as he drives down the street, trying to attack the police vehicle as they drive over fiery barricades with impunity. With impunity. Some images. CBS says scuffles broke out Saturday in Paris between police and small groups of protesters joining a march. Oh, scuffles, was it? Well, it turns out that they looted stores, they set cars on fire. Some of the journalists who were covering this were interrupted by rioters who made throat-slitting gestures to the camera. Root-slitting gestures. Just the best people. All the best people. And here is what it looked like Sunday morning in Paris. This is a montage of some of the images from Paris. As you can see, just rows of cars, burned out, completely burned out. Supposedly, this was about lack of air conditioning in the schools. Stores completely ransacked, except for, as you will see, the ham and pork aisle. That one is completely clear. Statues at the center, covered. And Palestinian flags and protests. Spray paint everywhere. The Louvre was closed down. Why? According to the Louvre, quote, Dear visitors, due to a student social movement, the museum is closed for the time being. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Oh, a student social movement. Because that's what it is when you, you know, run around burning things down. And when you pelt police officers and all the rest. Video has emerged, by the way, from Champs-Élysées of people taking a break from the rioting, you know, for prayer because you know it's something that you don't frequently see in say the christian or jewish community people stopping for a prayer break before they continue with the looting typically not a thing that you see listen you apparently you you must you must coordinate with allah before you continue to loot the local louis vuitton over in bordeaux louis vuitton was looted by rioters and kafias you can see that they're wearing red kafias around their heads look at this and this is an invasion i'm sorry it is that's what it is these sorts of riots are they're symptomatic of an invasion of western civilization what they are police vehicles were being pelted in marseille you can see people chucking objects the police they've got the kafias around their head again these symbols of civilizational hatred are being pelted around their heads and they're wearing red kafias around their heads they're chucking rocks at police vehicles listen recognize palestine become palestine that seems to be the the way that this works and literally chucking blunt objects at the cops we've seen this in other parts of the world and now it just is happening on the streets of france the only solution by the way presumably is a two-state solution one giant palestinian state in france and then the rest of france presumably whatever is left of it when they get done that's in peace and quiet two states side by side with a shared capital in paris that's probably what they want meanwhile things have gotten so bad that rioters are attacking homeowners with hammers here's some of that footage you see this isn't this isn't a part this is actually at a home it's like an apartment complex and people are literally breaking into houses with hammers to harm people it's all just about how they're not paying teachers and teachers and they're not paying teachers and teachers and that's what this is probably about it's a student social movement that's all it is dior is like you know we're not going to trust the cops on this you guys have done a horrible job instead we're just going to hire a security guard so this is what private establishments have now been reduced to do now this is crossing borders because as it turns out every place that imports the third world becomes the third world student organizers estimate 400 000 participants across more than 30 cities including milan turin rome in what they called a no maloney day it was billed as a demand for more classrooms and fewer bombs apparently 141 law enforcement injured only 28 arrests nationwide something like 20 of those arrests were minors rioters set a fire right in front of the duomo in milan again they're just going to they're just going to shame western civilization by destroying everything beautiful about it that's all this is there's the duomo and um and there are rioters burning things in front of it there are looters attacking a store in milan and wait wait what flag could they be carrying what symbols might they be wearing i don't know it's all a mystery it's almost probably you should just be more in solidarity with hamas that that will solve it west if you do that more if you're more in solidarity with terrorists in the middle east and radical muslims in the middle east it'll solve all your problems it won't be like they'll come to your civilization and do this to your house wearing those exact symbols they will definitely not do that here rioters and looters destroying milan and the police fleeing the police running away see there's a cop car and there they are just throwing things firing fireworks at the police car and the police uh running away and people cheering the guys it's just about it's just about they're not spending enough on social welfare that's all it's just social welfare here looters in turin italy enjoying themselves as they go through some sort of convenience store by the way you want to make sure that you're not spending enough on social welfare that's all it's just social welfare you're never looted be a bookstore be a bookstore or a ham and pork shop you'll never be looted here they are destroying a start again this is just pure destruction for the sake of destruction they literally look like they are in a bookstore here and they're just destroying the bookstore for purposes of destroying the bookstore not because they want to read a book maloney over in italy she said i have great respect for the thousands of people who today demonstrated peacefully including those who took part in the mobilization called by the cgil which also saw the participation of left-wing leaders whatever the idea is for which one demonstrates participation is the foundation of any healthy democracy on the other hand however we cannot ignore what happened in other italian squares in milan as these images show stones were thrown at law enforcement forces officers were injured damage and violence occurred that forced the interruption of the procession in turin people were stopped carrying cobblestones and window breaking hammers in bologna the disorders led to the precautionary closure of the railway station thugs who exploit demonstrations to sow chaos attack those who ensure security and hold entire cities hostage demonstrating is a right setting our cities ablaze is not there are no matter requests to the opposition do not be un do not be ambiguous about this unequivocally condemn these acts of violence and issue a clear appeal for every mobilization to be peaceful in the face of scenes like this says maloney the rejection must be unanimous any hesitation becomes justification silence is not acceptable so italy at least has been taking some action the italian government has now approved a ban on the burka in schools along with a limit on those who speak little italian in any one class which means a 30 cap according to the bbc will now be imposed on kids without italian citizenship or poor knowledge of italian language in the first year of primary middle and high school the veil ban would apply to the burka and yacaba not the hijab which leaves the face visible while france looks like a disaster area a lot of people are worried about all of that coming here and a lot of people are worried about the american dream this day as well everybody has an opinion about the american dream whether it's alive whether it's dying whether the government is helping people achieve it or making it harder but before we argue about the answers we should probably understand the numbers income inequality entitlements housing costs what is the government actually doing what does it cost who is it benefiting those are the questions behind my debate on the american dream with left of center scott galloway the debate is framed by an informative set of government facts from usa facts then scott and i get into what those numbers mean and where we think the country should go from here because agreeing on the facts doesn't mean agreeing on the policy you can look at the same data and reach very different conclusions that's where the debate gets interesting there are sharp some common ground and an actual discussion beyond the usual political sound bites and rehearsed talking points watch it weigh the arguments come away knowing more check out the full debate now on the usa facts youtube channel so what is this really about what is all this about so let us start from the very beginning the riots we are currently seeing in france and italy have literally nothing to do with lack of government spending that is not what this is these countries france and italy spend more on social welfare than virtually any countries on planet earth france france ranks third in the oecd it spends almost 31 percent of its gdp on social welfare programs that ranks it only after tiny austria and finland italy ranks sixth spending 27.6 percent by the way both countries are bankrupting themselves the united states by way of contrast spends less than 20 percent of our gdp on social welfare this is not about social welfare spending here's what this is about all of it the endless promises of the red the commies and the socialists and the endless threat of the green radical muslims and third world imports that is the combo that's the combo and they're all celebrating today jean-louis melichon who's the leader of the french equivalent of the dsa a party called la france is me he's a candidate to replace macron in 2027 they promote a new constitution that includes more taxes on the rich nationalizing all energy and infrastructure unilateral recognition of the state of palestine refusing to classify hamas as a terrorist organization right those people are super duper duper happy today jean-louis melichon tweeted out crowds of people are calm and joyful so so calm so joyful by the way is it helping france france recognized palestinian statehood unilaterally in september 2025 it's going great for you melichon by the way is a radical anti-semite he has been for a very very long time in november 2023 he boycotted a march against anti-semitism in november of 2023 because he said it would support the massacre of palestinians it's not just melichon it's communist closer to homer o'connor is very happy about all of this he put out a statement the congressman from california quote from the high schools of france to the streets of madrid to the universities of toronto young people are telling their governments the same thing in an age of massive wealth inequality they want a future they can believe and by the way you constantly hear how the youth are going to lead us let me just point out the youth have been at the center of every horrific movement of the 20th century the nazi party was led by the youth by university students the communist party was led by the youth university students that was true in china it was true in russia pol pot's revolution was led by university students this idea that the students are going to be your moral guides and exemplars you have to be an imbecile to believe this row connor says in france students and teachers are asking for safe schools enough teachers in smaller classes oh safe schools by burning down the school of course in spain for affordable rent and housing oh is that what's happening jd van says this is what happens when a nation lets in too many immigrants from the global south he's not just morally wrong but misreading the moment no he's absolutely right obviously this is what happens when nations that wealth and power accumulate in the hands of a few says row connor who's worth 250 million dollars in america let us listen to our young we need an economic and political transformation because the commies are super happy about this but you couldn't it with the commies alone. You also need imports from the third world and radical Muslims brought in from abroad. In France, foreign born immigrants represent over 10 percent of the population. Same thing in Italy. The Muslim population of France is now approaching 10 percent. It's about 5 percent in Italy. But in the big cities, it's a lot more. Why are you seeing this kind of unrest in Paris and Marseille? Because a huge percentage of those cities is third world migrants and radical Muslims in Paris. Over 20 percent of the citizens there are new immigrants, mostly from third world countries, mostly from Muslim countries. In Milan, it's about the same. Again, this is legal migration only. It's not even including the illegals there. Twenty nine percent of all immigrants in France are from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. The second biggest block of migrants that have arrived since 2011 in France are from sub-Saharan countries in Africa, making up 17 percent of all migrants. Over 1.1 million Middle Eastern and North African migrants have arrived in France since 2011. 3.5 million people in France, about half the total immigrant population, were born in Africa. The Muslim population of France has jumped to 7 percent in 2025 from 0.5 percent in 1985. Meanwhile, Catholic identification in France, it's a Catholic country, has declined from 83 percent in 1985 to 43 percent in 2025. 38 percent of French immigrants have arrived in France since 2011. Over 1.1 million Middle Eastern and North African Muslims identify with the Muslim Brotherhood. Fifty seven percent of respondents between the ages of 15 and 24 believe that Sharia law should trump French law. That's what's going on in France. In Italy, census data show that 11 percent of Italian residents are foreign born, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Twenty one percent of all foreign residents of Italy are coming from African nations. Morocco now makes up a majority of those North African migrants. That's what you were seeing in areas like Souta. Right. What you're seeing is that, again, Morocco is located literally across the water from Italy. And so you see people who have been take Libya. You see people taking boats from there to Italy. There's been a major, major issue. In 1985, the Muslim population of Italy was one was 0.1 percent of the population today. It's five percent of the national population. Meanwhile, Catholic identification has dropped from 88 to 90 percent in the 80s to about 75 percent today. And don't worry, it's not just France and it's not just Italy. Over in Britain, as we have been discussing for a while, the rise of radical Islam is quite real alongside the rise of communism. According to the U.K. Telegraph, Smith, which was the most common family name in England for centuries, will be overtaken by the family name Khan. That traditionally Muslim name has more than doubled in popularity in the last 30 years. Data show that 4,102 babies. Were born with the surname Smith in England and Wales in 2025. The second most common name was Khan with 3,772 babies. In 1996, every name in the top 10 was established British origin. By 2025, just three of the top 10 came from that background with names like Khan, Ahmed, Singh and Hussein rising into the top 10. Mohammed is the most common first name for boys born in England. So things are going incredibly well. In Europe. They imported the third world and now they are the third world. Well, as you can see, there are a lot of people who are dedicated to destroying the things that actually make the West valuable. When it comes to the things in your life that are valuable, you need to make sure that those are taken care of for the future. You need a trust. You need a will. These are things you need. You need to do it because otherwise, you know who ends up allocating all those resources? The state. You don't want that to happen. Head on over to trust and will.com slash Shapiro to get started today. Again, that's trust and will.com slash Shapiro and get 20% off. Emmanuel Macron is the current president of France. He's termed out. He can't run again. He's out there trying to pander. He's doing what the French do best. He's surrendering. So here he was saying we need to pay heed to what the young are saying. Here's a tactic that we need to stop. Maloney should stop it too. Everyone should stop it. If your movement is replete with violence, if there's a movement that is replete with violence that breaks into riots, we shouldn't say, we really should not say, listen, we obviously agree with the right to protest, but it's the violence that needs to stop. What we should say is if your movement is replete with violence, your movement is bad. How about that? If your movement, not as like a tiny frame, if your movement is replete, like thoroughgoing with violence, if you hold giant protests and it breaks into this kind of violence on the regular, there is something ideologically wrong with your movement because you have created a permission structure forever. You have created a permission structure forever. You have created a permission in violence. I'm old enough to remember the Tea Party in the United States. The Tea Party in the United States had zero incidents of rioting, zero incidents of serious violence, zero. Meanwhile, Occupy Wall Street, which was happening, had huge encampments at which violence was breaking out fairly regularly. Why? Because the movements are different. Not every movement is created the same. You could have marches today of people who are not going to break into violence on behalf of tax reform in the United States. But it is not those groups that are going to break into violence. The reason that you're seeing mass violence in France is because those movements are made up of communists and Islamists and third world migrants. That is why. Again, trying to be value neutral about the nature of these protests doesn't mean you have to censor people, doesn't mean it's illegal to protest. Of course not. But this kind of patting everybody on the head and then saying it's just the violence that is the problem ignores the difference in the movements themselves. It ignores what these movements are. There is a reason that Jean-Luc Mélenchon is cheering this. He doesn't care about the violence. He's fine with the violence. Emmanuel Macron, apparently the only person who has ever been rumored to have balls in his family is his wife. Here's Emmanuel Macron.
Speaker 3The youth of our nation are expressing great anguish and concern about the future, the conditions of where their careers will take them, what role they will be able to play in society. They say that the future, we have, is not one that we could desire. And I hear what they are saying. For the past 10 years, I've been fighting for them. So we need to pay heed to what they're saying. And we mustn't minimize the hardships that they are facing.
Speaker 1Oh, we must not minimize. Oh, their hardships cause them to, you know, grab a Louis Vuitton bag. That's what you do. This is like the entire press during BLM. Maybe your cause is unjust if it turns out that every night it turns into giant riots in which people just loot and rant. You just burn things. Maybe that's a problem with your inherent movement, maybe. Meanwhile, who's Macron blaming? He's not blaming himself because if he blamed himself, then he'd have to resign. And if he resigned, then his party would lose. So actually, he's going to blame, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, Trump. Here he is.
Speaker 3And we should never mix up those people, those men and women who protested peacefully with looters and rioters. We should never mix up those people, those men and women who protested peacefully with looters and rioters. Because there are people out there who rightfully feel that the price of fuel is going to high, a price which has increased because of what has happened in the Persian Gulf, a war that France was not part of.
Speaker 1Oh, oh, so it's not his fault. It's Trump's fault. Now, the Iranians, Abbas Araki, the foreign minister, he put out a statement saying, Mr. Macron made his bed when he assured the president he welcomes atrocities against Iranians. Too late to blame the war his ilk helped cause. Here's the deal. You're never going to blame him. You're never going to blame these people. They agree with the radical Muslims. They agree with them. They think the West is bad and deserves to burn. That's all. And you being a giant pansy, Emmanuel Macron, isn't going to solve it. It isn't. And then he's out there tweeting, no room for violence in our republic. Those who have broken and attacked the prefectures as well as businesses, looted even our town halls, will be prosecuted and punished. To the law enforcement forces, guarantors of the right to demonstrate, I express the support of the nation. We will all stand united against the sowers of chaos who seek only to bring down our institutions and prevent those who peacefully express their demands from doing it. Fine, so call out the military and stop it. So stop it right now. You could. Frankly, I think the president of the United States should have done that back in 2020 during the BLM riots. It's an absurdity. Your civilization cannot hold when you allow for this kind of rioting, looting, and all the rest. But listen, the Macrons were busy. They were busy over the weekend. According to Fox, French President Emmanuel Macron is facing criticism over his decision to attend a Celine Dion concert on Friday night on the evening of nationwide demonstrations that descended into violence, leaving hundreds of emergency personnel injured and nearly 1,800 people arrested. Macron and his wife Brigitte were spotted at Dion's concert at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, west of Paris, according to French media reports. The couple reportedly arrived and left discreetly. They were among the roughly 35,000 spectators at the performance. Now, Macron's rival, at least his party's rival, he's going to be supplanted by a person named Edouard Philippe in the next election cycle, Marine Le Pen, who runs the National Front Party. In France, and as his chief election rival, she says, You saw yesterday our cities, our streets, our country battered, mistreated, ransacked. We're living through a profound crisis of trust, of authority that poses a threat. threat to democracy, this observation must alert us. Our country is caught in a vice or even taken hostage between violence and powerlessness. She's not wrong about that. According, by the way, to the calci markets, she has now skyrocketed in the possible next French presidential election winner markets. She's all the way up to 49%, according to those markets. Edouard Philippe, he's way down at 17%. David Lissner is at 12%. Melanchon is down at 9%. And François Hollande of the Socialist Party is down at 5%. So no shock, it turns out the French may be tiring of all of this. Well, it would be beyond time for that. But guys, here's the deal. Don't pretend that you're going to oppose violence, rioting, looting in your cities while you endorse all of the causes of the violence and the rioting and the looting. Don't do it. The vice president of the United States put out a statement in which he said, Western liberals imported the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion. They ignored fundamental questions of assimilation and compatibility. They were told it would lead to this, and they didn't listen. I pray that France, a beautiful country of amazing people, will stop this madness before more of its landmarks burn. And I hope Americans are paying attention. This is the future congressional Democrats seek for your country. He is not wrong about that. Now, speaking about congressional Democrats and the left wing in the United States, the left wing in the United States has become exactly the same as it is in France, a merger of and the third worldist radical Muslims. So, Abdul El-Sayed, Abdul Rahman El-Sayed, the Senate Democratic candidate over in Michigan, who, yes, remains pro-Muslim brotherhood even if he lies about it. And I say that not because he is Muslim, but because there are lots of Muslims who don't back the Muslim brotherhood. Abdul El-Sayed is not one of them. He literally wrote a letter in 2012 that he signed calling for Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim brotherhood president, to crack down on the dissidents. Every member of his family, his sister, his mom, his dad, his stepmom, like literally all of them are associated with groups that are either front groups for the Muslim brotherhood or associated with Muslim brotherhood leadership. The notion that Abdul El-Sayed condemns the Muslim brotherhood is laughable on its face. It's laughable on its face. What principles of the Muslim brotherhood does he disavow? So he was asked by somebody at a town hall about the Muslim brotherhood. His immediate response was, why are you why are you picking on me for being a Muslim? He's doing the same victim routine. Barack Obama did when people questioned him about his politics back in 2008. Oh, you're wrong. Barack Obama used to do this. You're wrong because I have a weird name. You're only asking me because I have a weird name. No, no, dude, it's because you're a radical. Abdul Rahman El-Sayed, whose name I'm perfectly happy pronouncing. I'm not calling him Mohamed El-Sayed. I'm calling by his name. Abdul Rahman El-Sayed is a radical who sympathizes with radical Muslim groups all over the world. There's not a single action anywhere on earth against radical Islam that he has ever supported. He's not a radical. He's a radical. He's a radical. He's a radical. Not one. You cannot name one. It does not exist. Well, here was Abdul El-Sayed being asked a question, and he's much, much angrier at the question than he has ever been at the Muslim brotherhood. It's a simple question. No, your
Speaker 4friend's
Speaker 1got the mic.
Speaker 4I'm asking you a simple question. You give me your name. I'll answer the question. OK, Tommy. Hi, Tommy. How are you? I'm great. Are you? Do you know what the Constitution of the United States is? I have one simple question. Will you disavow the Muslim? Sure. Yeah, absolutely. But I want to ask you the question that you're asking me. I'm going to ask you the question that you're asking me. Why are you asking the question? Well, because they're a terrorist group. OK. No, no. But what are you implying? Do you assume that I wouldn't? Yes. Why not? Because I have not heard you disavow them yet. Have you disavowed them? I haven't heard you disavow them yet. I disavowed them. You're great. But here's the thing about it. You're asking the question because implicitly you assume that I'll have dual loyalties, right? You assume that somehow I wouldn't disavow them or that I'll have some higher order. You assume that somehow I wouldn't order allegiance than the Constitution, correct? Tommy, is that what you imply? Yes. Why would you think that about me? Because I have not heard you disavow them. No, no, no, no. Why would you actually think that about me? But I just did. But why would you actually think that? Why would you? Have you asked everybody in your life if they disavow you? I have not. So why are you asking me? No, no, no. Answer the question, Tommy. Everybody knows the answer to it.
Speaker 2Answer the question.
Speaker 4All right. So let me just tell you. Let me just tell you. I'm going to swear an oath to the Constitution of the United States. And that Constitution guarantees us all the right to practice whatever faith we want or don't faith at all. Okay.
Speaker 1Nobody is claiming he can't be a Muslim in Congress. There are already Muslims in Congress. The reason that he's being asked the question is because he said about a Muslim terrorist who tried to kill Jewish schoolchildren, hurt people, hurt people. The reason he's being asked the question is because he was a spokesperson for the Muslim Student Association when he was in for the Muslim Brotherhood. The reason he's being asked the question is because his father-in-law gave him hundreds of thousands of dollars and his father-in-law is deeply involved with the Islamic Society of North America, which is, in fact, allegedly a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood because literally everyone in his life is Muslim Brotherhood associated. That is that is why he is being asked the question and him participating in Takiyah now and just lying that he has nothing to do with Muslim Brotherhood beliefs after literally signing a letter calling for Muhammad Morsi, the head of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, to crack down on dissent in Egypt is laughable. It's laughable. And now he's doing the routine where he claims that he's like JFK. Well, back in 1960, there were people who didn't want JFK elected president because they said maybe he was loyal to Rome. Well, here's the difference. JFK was pretty clearly not loyal to all the beliefs of the Pope. Abdulrahman El-Sayed has yet to describe the beliefs of the Muslim Brotherhood that he disagrees with. If he has disavowed the Muslim Brotherhood, it's not enough. But we need to stop this game in politics is a stupid, stupid game. We say, did you change your view on X? And the person says, sure, sure. OK, I want to know what changed. Really, what changed? Will you stop accepting money from people who are legitimate front people for Muslim Brotherhood associated groups? Of course not. You you were caught on tape saying that you wouldn't say anything positive about the death of Ayatollah Khomeini because you were afraid that your constituents in Dearborn would get angry at you. So Al-Sayed's entire straw man, I don't know that it's going to play. It shouldn't if you're not a moron. But maybe there are lots of morons out there, maybe. Well, Abdul Al-Sayed, he's lying. He's lying. But you know what? A lot of people will lie to your face. So let's say that you go into a cell phone coverage provider and you ask them about what's the best available option. I think kind of lie by omission or they can just give you the smorgasbord. You have no idea what the hell they're talking about. And eventually you just say, give me whatever is your highest plan because I don't want to think about it anymore. Well, you don't have to do that. Go to pure talk dot com slash Shapiro and get pure talks. Best unlimited plan. For just twenty nine ninety five a month for the rest of your life. This offer is extremely limited. It ends November 15th. Again, pure talk dot com slash Shapiro. They've got the best coverage I know because I've been using pure talk myself for years. They have the best customer service. You've got a question and you call the folks up at pure talk. You'll get a human in the United States on the other end of the phone. This is why they have five star ratings in terms of customer service. Again, it's pure talk dot com slash Shapiro. They hate your guts politically. Go check them out. Pure talk dot com slash Shapiro. Tax and fees not included. Some restrictions apply. See pure talk dot com for details. This is their best offer ever. Go check it out right now. It ends eleven fifteen twenty six. Go check them out. Pure talk dot com. Check it out. Here he was straw manning and saying, all you want is for me to disavow Islam. No, no, no, no, no. We would like for you to actually explain how the Muslim Brotherhood is wrong, how you were wrong to sign a letter in support of them in twenty twelve. His sister in law is on a terrorist watch list. His sister literally tweeted. About how she was supportive and the entire family was supportive of the Muslim Brotherhood. Here's El-Sayed admitting his sister in law was on a terror watch list.
Speaker 4There's reporting in a lawsuit that now backs it up and documentation with the lawsuit that Miriam Jakaku, who's your sister in law, that she was on the terrorist watch list. Yeah. What's your response? Basically, it's exactly the point. She did nothing wrong and was captured on that and then sued and got off. So the idea that you can be placed on something like that because of exactly the infrastructure that Mike Rogers and his camera and his Patriot Act and his surveillance state can do is exactly the point. So she sued and what happened afterwards? You know what happened, right? No, she was removed.
Speaker 1OK, well, why was she put on in the first place? And the answer is because of her open associations with Muslim Brotherhood ideas. That would be the reason. So Mike Rogers is pointing out this sort of stuff. And Dana Bash just goes to war on behalf of El-Sayed here.
Speaker 5So Hassan Piker, who really came to the state, he had him. He had him here multiple times, five different events, took him to college campuses. This guy is full of hate and vitriol, not only for Jewish Americans, but for black Americans. You listen to his comments. This guy is as vile as they come. He has said he was excited about his answer because he did not disavow the Muslim Brotherhood. He didn't disavow it. He goes on this word salad trying to get around the fact that he can't do it. He said, sure, yeah. No, that's not true. Dana, listen, I don't know why the press is so eager to protect this guy. Congressman, I just want to say it's an ideology.
Speaker 1Again, so he says, yes, absolutely. And that's that's efficient. OK, just some questions that a true media would ask Abdul El-Sayed. Why did you sign a letter in 2012 that literally said this? He was attending school at Columbia. Quote, we leaders of the Egyptian community support the revolutionary decisions taken by the president and we call on him to purge the media and the police as quickly as possible. Hmm. That's weird. How about that half sister? His half sister, Iman Abdul Hadi. Tweeted, quote, My family has long. bin Muslim Brotherhood. She wrote that she had relatives who'd been jailed for membership in the organization. She expressed concern for her relatives in Egypt who supported the Brotherhood and urged them to keep a low profile. She wrote in June 2012 that she had discussed their mother's Muslim Brotherhood activism while their mom was attending college in Egypt in the early 1970s. His mother was, in fact, active with the Muslim Brotherhood while she was in Egypt in the 1970s. His father-in-law, Tayeb Joukakou, is a member of the board of ISNA. ISNA is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood. It was an undeaded co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing case. His father, Mohammed, studied and taught at Alexandria University before leaving Egypt in 1978. It's fairly, fairly clear that his dad was not Muslim Brotherhood disassociated. I don't know, man. That's a lot of smoke. And you saying that you, again, here's my question. Can you name a, like, here's all I want. Can you name a single action taken against radical Islam on planet Earth that is supported by Abdul El-Sayed? You cannot. It doesn't exist. Now, listen, the vice president did a fine job when it came to his statements about France over the weekend. But I will say he did a pretty poor job. Going after Abdul Rahman El-Sayed at the CBS town hall in Michigan. He did not perform as well as he ought. So, for example, he was asked about the Iran war and oil prices. This would have been an opportunity to turn around and clock Abdul Rahman El-Sayed. And he didn't do it. And I understand that J.D. Vance is gaming for the 2028 nomination. I understand that J.D. Vance is at best ambivalent about the president's actions in Iran. But he is not doing his electoral, duty by not turning around and clocking Abdul Rahman El-Sayed here. He is not. He's in Michigan to stump for Mike Rogers. He is failing in his in his PR duties here.
Speaker 6But what I would say is, is what is Abdul El-Sayed saying about it? And what is Mike Rogers saying about it? And what are their actual ideas to fix the problem? And what I'd say is we drew down way too much oil and gas capacity and we drew down way too much refining capacity. We are bringing that stuff online. But it does take a little bit of time. And I think that's a good thing. I think that's a good thing. Now, I see what Abdul El-Sayed says about the war in Iran. I see he criticizing decisions that the president has made, the military has made. But fundamentally, we are where we are. And you have to, in my view, I'd like to know what is Abdul El-Sayed's solution for the problem that we have right now?
Speaker 1That's a terrible answer. Legitimately a terrible answer. And the vice president's answer there should be the president of the United States did something that no other president has done. He took on a government in Iran. That declared that it wanted America to be obliterated. That had killed hundreds if not thousands of American troops around the region and funded every terrorist group in the region and declared it was it was developing nuclear weapons and actively was doing so. And the president took that on. Now, you can disagree with the means by which the president took it on. But Abdul Rahman El-Sayed doesn't just disagree with the means of going after Iran. He disagrees with going after Iran entirely or Hamas or Hezbollah or any other radical Islamic group on planet Earth. He disagrees with all of it. On a fundamental level, he is in sympathy with those groups. That's the answer. That's the actual answer there. Vance's own ambivalence on foreign policy is leading him down this particular path where he has to almost glaze Abdul Rahman El-Sayed where we are where we are is a terrible answer. It's a bad answer. And Vance, who is very PR slick, should know better than that at the very, very least. Meanwhile, it's not just the radical Muslims in the United States like Abdul El-Sayed or like Ilhan Omar or like Rashida Tlaib. Or like Darylisa Chevalier or like the rest of this group. It's not just those folks. It is also their communist friends. So the former president of the United States, Barack Obama, who agrees with all of them, he does. He always did. Barack Obama is a radical who agrees with Abdul El-Sayed about the evils of America and the evils of the West. And now he's out there defending Ilhan Omar. Quote, it is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can't selectively target individuals. Simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that's exactly what the Trump administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, he tweeted. To understand why this is so appalling, it's important to know the fact. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congressman Omar went on to graduate from college work as a community organizer, become the first Somali American legislator elected to public office. In the U.S. and win a seat in Congress. There she has been one of the Trump administration's fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in the country. Now the administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory. She was actually 18 when her father was naturalized and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, seized her phone, all to try and uncover a non-existent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official, because she has dared to criticize the president. And this is not the first time this has happened. So first of all, if we're going to talk about weaponizing the federal government against people, Barack Obama should sit down and shut the up. Barack Obama militarized the IRS against his political opposition. Then he pretended that it was a matter of, well, someone rid me of this meddlesome priest. His IRS cracked down on Tea Party groups, cracked down on pro-Israel groups. Jenny Beth Martin, one of the founders of the Tea Party, cracked down on pro-Israel groups. She correctly said, Your office audited her business and personal taxes and subjected her to ATF and OSHA inspections. By the way, what Obama's saying about Ilhan Omar, that's the entire crux of the thing. Again, the warrant against Ilhan Omar was approved by a Democrat-appointed judge. The reason that she is being investigated is because allegedly she has been lying about her age for years so that she didn't have to go through the separate citizenship process, because it might not have been granted. Because if she was 18 at the time, that her dad got citizenship, it didn't immediately transfer to her. So if she just lied about her age, that meant she committed immigration fraud and continues to do so. That is the question at issue. But let's be clear about this. Barack Obama is a radical sympathizer with all of this. He is a founding member of the Red-Green Alliance. There's a reason he went to Northern Ireland last week and started jabbering about how Israel had lost the moral upper hand in its conflict with Hamas. There's a reason why his national security advisor, Ben Rhodes, was literally nicknamed Hamas in the White House. That is who the Democratic Party are. And it's bleeding down to every level of the Democratic Party. By the way, here is Alyssa Slotkin, the senator from Michigan. She was speaking at the University of Chicago. And at the same time that Barack Obama is saying, don't go after your political opponents, she's saying, absolutely, we're going to go after our political opponents.
Speaker 7So that's what I'm saying. I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him. I want young people coming out of school to say, should I go work for the Trump administration? Like, that sounds fun. I might get an opportunity. I want them to be like, Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don't want. And so let me avoid participating in that. I want that deterrence message sent.
Speaker 1Oh, she wants a deterrent message sent not to work for the administration. Don't worry. They're not chilling freedom of speech. They're not chilling anything. Now, what she should say is we'll prosecute any criminal activity. That's not what she's saying. Because Democrats have been using the auspices of law enforcement to target their political opposition up to and including the current president of the United States. So that's not what she's saying. Meanwhile, Troy Jackson, who's running against Susan Collins, Troy Jackson has been a member of every single party in the state of Maine. It's pretty impressive. He is, shall we say, a party animal. Well, Troy Jackson is now full scale with denying people their private health insurance, at least their points for honesty for Troy Jackson, who appears to be somewhat of a clinical moron.
Speaker 8Would they be able to stay on those private plans under your administration? Well, I think they would be able to stay on those private plans under your administration. That's what we've seen here in Maine, too. Whenever we've tried to do this is like everyone has to get into the plan. Hmm. Hmm. So
Speaker 1you're saying the quiet part. OK, so the Red Green Alliance rides anew here in the United States. Meanwhile, James Tallarico over in Texas. Again, folks, if you are an independent or Republican and you're disinclined, forget what you think about Trump, you're disinclined to elect a bunch of psychotics who agree with the Red Green Alliance to Congress. Don't be discouraged. from doing so by the horseshoe theory right, telling you to stay home. Here's James Tallarico comparing himself to David from David and Goliath. God is somehow missing from this particular story, but that's not a shock from a man who proclaims himself a seminarian who somehow believes that
Speaker 9God is non-binary. David may not have been as big or as strong as Goliath. He may not have had as many weapons, but he had hope and he had a slingshot. You are my slingshot. The people of Texas are my slingshot.
Speaker 1Um, well, I mean, he had something else beside a slingshot in the story. He had God, but James Tallarico is not big on the God is the truth. And he's another one of these guys who likes to quote the Bible, but only the sections that are particularly important. Supportive of his political positions. And then, you know, God, he's kind of like an adjunct of a whole kind of weird thing. You know, folks, this, these are the Democrats they've chosen Abdulrahman Al-Sayed in Michigan, the Muslim brotherhood, fellow traveler and Troy Jackson in Maine, who has now become the most radical left he can be because he's got to mimic Graham Plattner. They ousted the Nazi tattoo rapey guy in favor of a weirdo over in Texas. He got James Tallarico wandering around the state, pretending to be a member of the boys choir while simultaneously interpreting the Bible in the most perverse possible ways. These are not, these are not the Democrats you're looking for gang. These are not the Democrats you're looking for. They will all work for Bernie. They will. That is where this is going. And Bernie will work together with that red green Alliance. And then in the end, they'll all work together to tear down the United States. That is what they care about more than anything else. And they'll all fly the same flag as they do. So the flag, the failure everywhere. That is, that is what you're looking for here in the United States. And that's what's at stake. Okay. Meanwhile, in some positive news. So Anthropic is now announcing that they are committing a portion of their shares to the Anthropic public benefit fund, a new entity with a structure that increases the stake as the company grows subject to stockholders approval. 5% of Anthropic's shares will be committed today with an additional 2% added at the board's discretion for every 50% increase in the company's value. A set baseline. And again, the, the basic idea here is that they are quote unquote investing in the public benefit. They say as a public benefit corporation, most of our work in pursuit of our mission takes place inside the company. These activities have both a public benefit component and for-profit value. So we house them directly in the company, but the Anthropic public benefit fund will have increased flexibility and scale enabling us to pursue our mission in new ways. For example, we might explore large donations to traditional nonprofits or direct distributions to specific populations. So. They're not actually going to hand out stock in their company, God forbid. Instead, what they're so that you get to choose what to do with the money. They are going to determine what's in the public benefit and then they're going to donate to it. Right? So again, this is effective altruism 2.0. So the effective altruism movement was the basic idea that we will be as capitalist as we want to be maybe including cheating and stealing like Sam Bankman freed. And then we'll use more of our money for the causes that we think are really, really, really important. Problem is of course, Anthropic is a very left-wing company. And so there is something bizarrely Orwellian about Anthropic because again, they just send out their leadership to routinely tell you how Anthropic is going to get you all killed, destroy your job, and you will end up being Chris by the robots at some point in the future. But at least they're setting up a public benefit fund so that all of their big brains can figure out where the money ought to go. Elon is doing it differently. Elon announced that next year, he will give one of his SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many, which is kind of awesome. It's awesome in a few different ways. One, it gets every kid invested in the stock market, which is great. This was also the idea of the Trump funds. This is what Brad Gerstner has been pushing for a while, Michael Dell. That's good, right? Everybody feeling invested in the market is a good thing. I would like to make the point, generally speaking, that the beauty of free markets is not the charity on the other end of the free market. Charity is wonderful. I give a lot of it. Charity is great. It is a virtue. It is biblically mandated. It is a virtue. It is a virtue. It is a virtue. I give a lot of it. Charity is great. It is a virtue. Charity is awesome. Also, free markets have enriched and empowered more people on Earth at scale than any amount of charity in the history of the human race, period. Again, that is not a referendum on charity being bad. It is to say that the value of SpaceX does not lie in Elon giving individual shares to every kid in America. I like that. That's great. But the value of SpaceX lies in its innovation. It lies in its product. It lies in the fact that it's going to make your life better and easier. That's the value of the tech. Now, we are seeing a bizarre rebellion against tech in pretty much all of its forms. Sometimes, you kind of see why. But a lot of the time, it's just unbelievably stupid. So, for example, there's a brand new poll out about self-driving cars. And what this poll shows is that somehow, a plurality of voters believe that their city or town should ban self-driving cars. This is a. a survey from The Argument. 41% of voters say there should be a ban on self-driving cars compared to 28% who say it should be allowed. 31% say unsure. Interestingly, male voters are 39-32 in favor of allowing self-driving cars. Female voters are 48% in favor of a ban. Um, I have some jokes about the female drivers, which I'll refrain from here. Let us just say this is stupid on all fronts. Self-driving cars are wonderful. Self-driving cars will save literally tens of thousands of lives. Tesla's full self-drive is incredible. Waymo is great. The rebellion against self-driving cars is a generalized rebellion against progress. The downside of self-driving cars is absolutely minimal. You're going to have to explain it to me, truly. Explain why self-driving cars are bad. The more self-driving cars that are on the road, the safer they get, by the way, because it's human error that is generally causing people to crash. Yeah, the sort of upswing in sentiment against tech is leading to a vast downgrade of the quality of life, and that's incredibly stupid. It's a gigantic mistake. We should not participate in it. People, don't. don't do that. Don't do that. All right. Meanwhile, on the foreign policy front, some bad news out of the White House. I don't know what the president thinks he is doing with regard to Russia. This is bad policy. According to the White House, they have now waived section 115 of the Graham Act. So you remember, after Lindsey Graham's untimely death, Congress passed and the president signed into law new sanctions on Russia. He is now waiving those sanctions and also tariffs on Russian oil. The Graham Act signed into law a 500% tariff on Russian goods and a 100% secondary tariff on goods from countries identified as the five largest importers of Russia. That included crude oil and natural gas. That included China and India. Trump paused all three of those measures with a waiver, and now he's blaming Vladimir Zelensky for everything bad that's happening. He said, my decision on Russia is a very simple one. It's on truth social. I'm in the process of negotiating peace in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Have we heard this before? Have we heard about this alleged and fabled negotiated peace between Russia, which has never made one move toward peace, and Ukraine, which has abided by ceasefires, which has unilaterally declared ceasefire? He says he doesn't want to do anything that will drive foolishly Russia away from the bargaining table. I'm sorry, this is silly. It just is. He says great progress is being made. No, it's not. There's no evidence great progress is being made. And he says Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran. That is not true. I'm sorry, this stuff is not true. And blaming Vladimir Zelensky for Russian intransigence is backward. This is totally backward. Quote, Zelensky is using diesel refineries in Russia as a target, knowing these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel market. Well, you know what Russia could do? They could stop invading. They could stop that. Blaming Ukraine for resisting invasion by hitting the fuel economy of Russia is totally backwards. By the way, the United States is no longer really even paying for Ukraine's war effort. It's Europe that is paying for Ukraine's war effort. It's NATO countries that are buying American weaponry. That is a deal that President Trump already worked. This is truly an unfortunate decision by the president for short-term political gain. Vladimir Putin has been totally intransigent on all of this stuff. The administration seems to be mobilizing behind it because, of course, the president has said it. So Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, he denied that the U.S. turned off Starlink. But Starshield, which is still the version of the military version of Starshield, which is being used by the Ukrainians to target the U.S. military, which is being used by the Ukrainians to target the U.S. military. Starshield is a defense product, a military product.
Speaker 10And as I said, I mean, that is something that we have a military, United States military uses. It's not at this moment available to Ukraine, and that's under conversation. It's under discussion right now about how they would want to use it. No, but to the U.S. Does the U.S. have anything to do with it not working in Ukraine at the moment? Zelensky said it was deliberate. Well, I don't know what Zelensky said. I'm not sure Zelensky knows what he's talking about, but it wasn't deliberate. We had nothing to do with it. I don't, I don't, the United States, nobody ordered that Starlink speed to be slowed down. It sort of happened. But my understanding is it's been restored. It's back to where it was before. So that's Starlink, though. They were using Starlink for their drones. Has Starshield been restored? Starshield is a totally different product. Starshield is a contract with the U.S. military. It has nothing to do with Ukraine. I know Ukraine wants access to Starshield. They do not have Starshield now. They've asked for access to it in order to conduct deep strikes inside of Russia. They do not have access to it at this moment.
Speaker 1Right, so we have denied them access to Starshield originally. Starlink was briefly denied. Scott Besson, the Treasury Secretary, he points out that Zelensky has been ripping into the president but doesn't criticize his European partners. Well, maybe it's because the European partners aren't encouraging him to lose. I mean, that is what is happening right now. The president of the United States is encouraging the Ukrainians to basically surrender gigantic swaths of their territory, which Zelensky cannot do constitutionally. It is literally against the constitution of his country to do that without a referendum. The reason Zelensky is criticizing President Trump is because President Trump, is telling him he can't hit the funding mechanism for his enemy.
Speaker 11Point out, the UK in May waived their embargo on diesel and jet fuel made with Russian crude. So, you know, where's the outrage for the rest of the world? You know, President Zelensky does not criticize his European partners. He seemed a bit disassembled in that interview. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, so I agree that Zelensky should be criticizing the
Speaker 1Europeans for it, but that doesn't free America up to not be criticized when they waive sanctions on Putin and then proceed to basically say that Zelensky is the problem in the region. The Ukrainians correctly continue to strike oil, oil terminals and a data center and a bridge as they should. They are fighting a defensive war for their own existence. That is how this works. Ukrainian drones hit the St. Petersburg oil terminal and a data center belonging to Russia's largest social media platform, VK. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin is trying to woo the president with a proposed summit between Trump and Xi to decide on Ukraine's fate, which again would be an absurdity. Any sort of deal cut between China, Russia and the United States that does not include Ukraine in it is not a good thing. Ukraine is not likely to succeed, number one. Number two, this attempt to basically, you know, woo the president with a red carpet, that would be, that would be a mistake by the president, shall we say. And meanwhile, in the culture, Matthew McConaughey is out there claiming that he's just, he's disaffected with our policy. Listen, I get it. Lots of people are disaffected with our politics right now, right? I mean, a lot. And justifiably so. Matthew McConaughey is now calling for, an independent party and calling for people to vote independent this November.
Speaker 12The number one political identity in America today is not Republican. It is not Democrat. It is independent. More of us than either party. So independents belong in the fight. Not as a protest, not as a spoiler, but as a real and potential winner on the ballot and considered seriously by us. This Congress is one of the narrowest in modern history. And a Congress as close as this one, three to five true independents, ones who don't caucus with either side, well, they're not a minority. They're the majority maker. Nothing passes without them. Every bill has to come through the middle, which means both parties would finally have to compete for the middle, most of us. Think of it like football. The two parties want to play the whole game, in their own end zones, right? Well, independents keep the game between the 40s, where most of America actually lives. Independents don't just have leverage. They actually are the leverage.
Speaker 1Okay, so he is not wrong. Theoretically, there could be an independent block of votes in Congress. He is wrong that practically that's how this works. Listen, I get it. I get it. People are really disaffected with both parties. That is increasing. People don't like the Democrats and they don't like the Republicans. They don't like either of them. I understand. People are unhappy with the people who govern them, largely because everybody believes that the government's going to solve all of their problems, as I have said before. And so McConaughey is basically saying, what if there was sort of a middle block that helps broker truces between the two sides? That is not historically how it has worked. Number one, the parties have extraordinary power in local elections. Very difficult for independents to win. Easier to capture a party, as the DSA is currently doing to the Democrats, or as President Trump did to the Republican Party, than it is to start a new party and then have that party win in a variety of ways. In a variety of congressional seats, very tough to defeat either of those machines. Even if you were to do so, the reality is that when people are independent in Congress, they very rarely vote independent. So right now, there are two members of the United States Senate who are registered independents. One of them is Bernie Sanders, who, of course, is basically a de facto leader of the Democratic Party and votes with the Democrats 91% of the time. And Angus King in Maine, a registered independent, who votes with the Democrats and caucuses with the Democrats and votes Democrat 95% of the time. So, realistically speaking, that is not the case. Statistically speaking, these independents are very rarely independents. They're rarely a separate bloc. We have yet to see a truly independent voice rise in Congress. It used to be, by the way, that the parties were less monolithic. And so you would have a sort of independent bloc in Congress of moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats, sort of left wing Republicans and blue dog Democrats, and they would get together and moderate a lot of these bills. Both parties have bifurcated. And so what you've seen is that both parties have become significantly more monolithic. So the crossover between the parties, has gone away in large part. I understand why McConaughey is saying, "What are you saying?" Systematically, it doesn't tend to work that way. He says that independents could do this with five to 10 seats. No, they would probably need 20 in order for this to work in Congress. And also getting people to vote in local congressional elections against the congressperson that they like, or the insurgent candidate across the country. Very, very difficult. Honestly, I think it's a comfortable place for McConaughey. You see this from a lot of celebrity, politicos, McConaughey is a little political. It is a safe place to be. If you say, "I'm not either of these parties, I pox on all your houses," that puts you in safe space. The rule in celebrity land is, if you are a Democrat, then you're pretty safe. If you are an independent, you are definitely safe. If you are a Republican, you are very unsafe. That typically is the way that this works. So McConaughey is occupying that singularly popular space, which is, "I don't like anyone." Okay, fair enough. Meanwhile, I do have to comment on Larry David. Larry David, shocking. He put out a piece at Airmail where he's satirizing the DSA. And good for him. Words I never thought would leave my lips. Good for Larry David. We'll get to that in just one moment.
