So, the Lindsey Clancy jurors are now speaking out. And, um, it's not great. They are demonstrating why our jury system kind of sucks. Think Lindsey Clancy's prosecutors weren't nice enough to her? Some of the jurors did. Think you're mean if you focus too much on her viciously murdering her children? Some of the jurors did. We'll get into the details, and we'll get into why Patrick Clancy should sue his detractors into the ground. Plus, actor Nick Offerman says I'm a homophobe because I correctly summarized the plot of a show episode he did in 2023. And we have a major Daily Wire announcement with Clay Travis. This is The Ben Shapiro Show. So, our jury system, not great. Many of us assume that inside that jury room, a bunch of hereditary were chanting, free Lindsey, while celebrating her feminist go-girl attitude while she killed her children. Or maybe we assume there was one dude just shouting friar, even though he totally thought that she might be mentally ill. Well, all of that might have happened. Now the jurors are speaking out. I've made my thoughts on the Lindsey Clancy case absolutely clear. And I think that the prosecution had a very, very difficult burden of proof to meet. I'm not sure they met that burden of proof. I'm not sure that a hung jury is the wrong outcome in this particular case, given the complicated fact pattern. And all the rest. Here's what I will say. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, is a piece of work. I mean, truly a piece of work. So here he was on Good Morning America, trying to draw a narrative
Speaker 2with George Stephanopoulos. Oh, boy. And what do you say to those critics who say this is a rationalization? What we're talking about here is just plain evil. Oh, please. It's not evil.
Speaker 3These people don't understand. They don't know what she went through. They didn't see her text messages. They didn't see her journal. They didn't see the notes that she wrote. They didn't see the text she sent her mother in October, saying, Mommy, can you please come to here? I am sick. Something's wrong. And it was a result of the medications. They don't know about the number of times that she reached out. She went to the women and infants. She went to the suicide hotlines. She reached out to everybody and anybody that would listen to her and kept saying, I am not good. I am not well. And it was ignored. Okay, so fine. But then he feels the necessity to
Speaker 1talk about her as a feminist hero standing up for women everywhere. No, no. She's a mentally ill woman who murdered her own children. And then he says that he is asking President Trump for a pardon. She's not even being tried for a federal crime. What the hell are you talking about? This is just grandstanding nonsense. Please can we stop with the grandstanding nonsense? It is bad for
Speaker 3America. I'd like to say that perhaps Donald Trump, who felt compelled to speak out about this case, may very well, Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady the type of person she is, what she's been through, and consider a pardon. There are no federal charges
Speaker 1against her. These defense attorneys, like the Ben Crump of feminism over here, truly bad stuff. Well, the big news yesterday from the Clancy post-trial is all of the jurors were now speaking out publicly. And I got to say, they're not making an amazing case for themselves. They're not doing great. So, for example, one of the female jurors said that the prosecution did more harm than good. They were just too mean to Lindsay Clancy. Literally, their job was to prosecute her for the triple homicide of her own small children. Here's one of the female jurors.
Speaker 4Did the prosecution make any points at all? Was there anything that you considered?
Speaker 5No. I don't think so. I mean, I've thought about that a lot.
Speaker 6I honestly feel like the prosecutor did themselves more damage than good by just not thinking about Lindsay. I mean, the whole picture, not just postpartum depression, not just delusional, not just the voice, but the meds, the whole cocktail of her mental health and these doctors that are prescribing this and prescribing that and they're taking her off this and they're taking... None of them communicated with each other, Sue. Not one of them.
Speaker 1Okay. The prosecution did more harm than good by not speaking nicely about Lindsay Clancy. It's literally their job to prosecute her for the vicious murder of her three young children. And this is the problem I'm having, okay? The descriptions of the jury, it sounds like, frankly, a bunch of female jurors who walked in there thinking that she was not only reasonable doubt mentally ill, but... Innocent in pretty much every way and were militant about it. And apparently one guy who walked in thinking that there was reasonable doubt and that she should be fried anyway. So it seems like jury nullification for everybody. Great. Honestly, some of the jurors, some of the female jurors, one of them said she actually did not have reasonable doubt that Lindsay Clancy killed her kids. She didn't even have reasonable doubt as to whether she was mentally ill. She says, well, I don't know, you know, if it was like the hallucinations or whatever, but I just didn't want her punished. Like, what are we doing here? What are we doing? And the jury system, a system in which the only people who are on the jury are the 12 people too dumb to escape jury duty, as Dennis Miller once suggested. Here's one of the jurors saying they just didn't get compassion in the prosecution. What in compassion in the... What are you even
Speaker 6jabbering about? What are you talking about right now? You know, obviously something happened to this woman that shouldn't have not happened for many reasons. And we appreciated the fact that she didn't cut through the bulls**t, if you don't mind me saying, and just moved it along with just so much compassion for her. And we didn't find any compassion in the prosecution. I mean, I know it's their job, but in a case like this, you expect a little bit. Um, what? But what? What? I mean,
Speaker 1the entire case that they're making is that she, with malice, murdered her three kids. What do you expect them to do? What are you talking about? Yeah. Now, meanwhile, these three female Clancy jurors describe the male holdout juror. So obviously there's a big controversy over the fact that the defense attorney asked the judge to basically bar the male holdout juror. Now, again, not everybody on the jury was a female. There were nine women and three men. So there were two other males who voted presumably for acquittal. But the reason apparently they went to the judge is they say the male holdout juror was refusing to acknowledge that even though he had reasonable doubt, he was not going to acquit because he was just so taken aback by the viciousness of the killings. So a form of jury nullification. Again, you want to change the law about the insanity defense? Go for it. You want to make the case there shouldn't be an insanity defense. All right. But the jury description of rational doubt, like the judge's instructions are in fact instructions. They're not recommendations. And here's what the female jurors who, again, I don't think are reliable narrators had to say about the male holdout juror, who many are now saying is a hero for holding out and avoiding the complete acquittal. Now, again, as I said before, acquittal would not have resulted in involuntarily committed for an unspecified period of time, presumably forever, honestly, because which psychiatrist is going to sign off on the lady who could spontaneously combust at any moment and take children with her? There's a reason that Andrea Yates, who murdered multiple of her children in a bathtub in 2001, is still involuntarily committed in 2026. Anyway, here are some of the clancy jurors describing the male holdout juror.
Speaker 5And he just completely disregarded the information that they gave him. I mean, he had reasonable
Speaker 4He admitted he had reasonable doubt after we walked in. watched that video of the interview. I think that's when it was. He admitted he had reasonable doubt and I started filling out the forms. I was so excited. I actually, there were three forms I had to fill out and I started filling them out. I wrote my signature on each one and then he said, but I'm still not going to say that she's not guilty by reason of insanity.
Speaker 6And we would highlight it and, you know, so-and-so, this is the definition of reason of doubt. But he had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children.
Speaker 1You know, I will say there are some people who are taking this lady's words and making it seem as though she is fine with Lindsay viciously killing her kids. I'm not sure that's to be fair to her. Again, just to try to be accurate to what people are saying. I think that that comment, which is not a good comment, can be read in two ways. One is, yeah, we're not bothered, by her viciously killing her kids. The other is that, yes, she viciously killed her kids. And he used that as the dispositive fact, as opposed to, you know, what the actual argument was over mental illness. And bottom line here is what it appears like. And unfortunately, this happens very often on juries. It appears as though there's kind of jury nullification on all sides that some of the female jurors thought that she did it, but they wanted to let her off. Some of the male jurors or at least one male juror thought that there was reasonable doubt, but wanted to convict her. And so you end up with the hung jury, which again, by the way, I thought was always likely. And in some cases, in some ways, a not only expected outcome, but the right outcome. And meanwhile, I'll tell you what is totally insane. I mean, we are a country where we have incentivized people to be crazy and horrible to one another. Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and we'll get into that, I'm sure, at length tomorrow, the insanity that has followed thereupon. But we have an entire social media infrastructure that has been created for the nuts, for the crazies. Former real housewife Lisa Rina, she's been pushing the idea that Patrick actually murdered the kids. Now, again, it is unchallenged. It is unchallenged that Lindsay Clancy murdered her children. Like her defense didn't even make this argument. Lisa Rina, for some reason, has the opinion that Patrick did
Speaker 7it. All right, he did it. Patrick did it. Patrick's the one who did it. Not Lindsay. Patrick did it because, you know. I also heard that women typically don't strangle. So awful to even say. But that isn't what a woman would do. They don't strangle. I was actually in therapy today, and my therapist and I were talking about it, and I said, well, what do they do? She said, well, they poison. Or I said, or drown them. We literally had that conversation today. And she looks at me, and she goes, he did it. I was like, wow, yeah. And now, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1So Patrick Clancy, quite rightly, by the way, is apparently going to sue all these people, and he should. I hope he sues them into the ground, into the ground. According to the New York Post, Patrick Clancy's attorney hit out at the escalating campaign of misinformation being waged by unhinged influencers and minor celebrities. Following his wife's mistrial for the murder of the couple's three children, his lawyer, Howard Cooper, told Boston 25 News, quote, over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating, and destructive defamation campaign. This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers, and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potentially profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims. Of course, is right. The lawyer says this campaign now fueled by insatiable media coverage remains at a fever pitch and has resulted in real-life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life. I hope he sues these people into the ground. I hope he never stops doing them. I hope he takes them for every single thing they are worth. Honestly, you cannot read the transcript of Patrick Clancy's 911 call and just not have your stomach turn. There's no way. I mean, the relevant portion of the transcript, is he goes looking through the head. He discovers her on the lawn bleeding from the neck and paralyzed on the lawn. And he says, her neck, she's breathing. Lindsay, look at me. Look at me. And the dispatcher says, are there weapons? And he says, I don't see any. Where are the kids? He says, open your eyes. Lindsay, look at me. Open your eyes. Say my name. And the dispatcher says, I'm going to tell you how to stop the bleeding. And he says, it's not really bleeding. Open wounds. She's in the backyard. He says, Lindsay, wake up. They're coming. Look at me. The first responders arrive. And he says, I need you to stay with her. I have to go check on my kids. And this is the part that just turns your stomach. And this is why, again, my emotional sympathies are with the juror who says, okay, she may have been mentally Elfriar anyway, because again, this is just on an emotional level. This is why you shouldn't let emotions dictate policy. But on an emotional level, he says, guys, guys, Cora, Cora Dawson, oh no, oh no, wake up. And then he's screaming and gasping for an extended stretch. And the dispatcher says, what's going on? Hello. And he says, basement, basement. Oh my God, I need help in the basement right now. And then the dispatcher says, hello, hello. And he says, Dawson, my buddy, my little boy, my buddy. Ah, she killed the kids. Oh my God. I mean, like, I hope he sues these people into the ground. I hope he sues them and never stops suing them. And for all the horrible people out there who are ripping on Patrick Clancy because he's remarried now, again, he remarried three years after this happened and now has a kid. I hope he lives whatever is left of his life that can be put back together in the best possible fashion, because you would never want to trade places with a person like this ever. And people, it's disgusting. I mean, the fact that we have an entire social media ecosystem that praises people who go after the actual victims of cases like this, like you're going after Patrick Clancy or as we'll discuss tomorrow, you're going after Erica Kirk after her husband gets shot in the neck and dies on camera. There is no level of hell lower than the place where these people will burn. Seriously. These are the worst people on earth, truly horrible human beings. And I hope he sues them into the ground. Sometimes teenagers kill people because they believe and do bad things, and then they are punished by the law. So we were told by all the best people that Carmelo Anthony was somehow a victim. And that includes people like James Tellery, again, James Tellery is running for Senate in Texas, and he is running competitively. The last few polls show James Tellery go up in Texas, which is why this is important. Here was James Tellery just a few weeks ago talking about the conviction of Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo Anthony, you'll recall, was the teenager who murdered Austin Metcalf there in a tent while it was raining before a game, and he wasn't supposed to be in that tent. Carmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf and others told him to leave because he wasn't from the school, and he decided that would be a great time to pull a knife out of his backpack. And he decided to pull a knife out of his backpack, and he decided to pull a knife out of his backpack, and he decided to pull a knife out of his backpack, and he decided to Austin Metcalf to death, and then he was convicted of murder. Well, James Tellery then went on the Breakfast Club with Charlemagne and explained that Carmelo Anthony's conviction was because
Speaker 2of American racism. Now, you said in your state of Texas, we see what happened with Carmelo Anthony,
Speaker 8and you said it was a tragedy. Yeah. What did you mean by that? Well, I've done a lot of work in the State House on justice reform, and right now we've got a system that doesn't serve all Americans and we know that black Texans have been, have not gotten the justice they deserve in many cases, And, you know, I'm not an expert on this particular case, but I know that there were no black members of the jury. And to me, that's that's the only evidence you need to to to really prove that this system is not working for black Texans.
Speaker 1How do you do it all says that there aren't enough black Texans on the jury and therefore Carmelo Anthony was somehow victimized in all of this. And yet this ties into a broader perspective in American life, which is that black people are routinely being victimized by, quote, unquote, the system. Sandra Bullock, who has adopted black teenagers, she she was out there saying the same thing. Here she was on with Hoda on The Today Show.
Speaker 9I mean, you know, we're different this, you know, and I have to see everything through her eyes and I'm uber paranoid and they will tell you. I'm like, they're like, mom's going to be fine. I'm like, it's not fine. It's not. Fine outside. But, you know, I'm now learning to trust them because if I've done an OK job, even if I've just done an OK job, where they are now is extraordinary. The energy that is floating around our country in our world again, the color of their skin, they're my babies are my life. But no one knows that when they leave my house. So that is always in the forefront of my mind. I can't I've got to stop thinking about it so much because I think we've had all the conversations. They know. Yeah, I think they're going to. They know. They know.
Speaker 1I mean, she literally says her kids are telling her everything's OK. And she the white lady is telling them, no, no, no, no, honey. Things are going to be really bad. Again, we can look in the polling data in the United States when race relations started to turn the wrong way because most Americans, black and white, thought race relations were moving in a positive direction all the way up till 2013, 2014. And then it all fell off a cliff. And now there are entire political structures built. Atop the lie that America is a deeply and horribly racist place and an enormous amount of this is just built on bad narrative. It's just built on a bad set of facts. So Carmelo Anthony, back to that. We now have access to his texts, videos of him. And it turns out that he was a person with extraordinarily violent thoughts. According to the UK Daily Mail, the material was never shown to jurors because a controversial gentleman's agreement saw prosecutors and defense attorneys agree not to proceed. And negative evidence from either teenager's background at trial. Apparently, there were comments by Austin Metcalf on his social media that would have reflected poorly on him to the jury. But that really isn't the issue. The issue is, you know, the guy who stabbed him to death. According to the Daily Mail, Anthony can be seen shirtless posing with a handgun in a screenshot from a video he recorded in November 2024, five months before the killing. Here's an image. Here's a screenshot of him with the handgun. And then there's another image that was taken May 5th, 2024. He's. Seen holding an AK-47 style rifle while standing alongside three other teenagers. He was 16 at the time. Now, again, there are lots of teenagers across America who have pictures holding guns. I mean, hopefully in more responsible fashion than Carmelo Anthony is holding these guns in these photos. But again, that is not the only evidence here. There's a third incident in which Anthony took video of himself pointing a gun at a house before running away January 4th, 2025. Unclear whose home he was targeting. And then there are a series of texts. That Anthony sent to his girlfriend, Valeria Perez, in March, 2025, in which he wrote, I effing despise black B words. Ah, I do not like black B words. All that would glue getting to the effing brain effing N words. They need to go die. And then, of course, he was writing about effing gay people are effing everything up. He had some bizarre commentary about President Trump and Joe Biden. He suggested that Joe Biden, who he called an N word, was gay as balls. He said, I like Trump. Better not go cap. And he hates gay people and all the rest. The most important exchange, of course, is the fact that he apparently was engaged in criminality. In October 2024, he told his girlfriend that he would go to jail for burglary after claiming he stole a watch from a neighbor. He texted her and she wrote back. Shut up. Don't say that. Don't do this to me. He also said in November 2024 that he had taken a gun and a knife to school. So, in other words, there are only about a thousand red flags here. And herein lies the problem. Herein lies the problem. We are a society that is so addicted to narrative that we overlook the actual case circumstance. I've said this about every criminal case I can remember. Look at the actual evidence in any case and you are likely to come to a better conclusion than if you don't look at the evidence. And if the narrative matters more than the evidence, if you're James Tallarico trotting around trying to win the black vote in Texas by saying that Carmelo Anthony is a victim of the system. You are doing something wrong, like morally wrong. You should not spin fact patterns to fit your narrative. It is a mistake to do that. A moral mistake. Now, two more entertaining news. Apparently, according to page six, Jimmy Kimmel Live is going to be is going to be coming to its terminus after 24 years on the air. May 2027. It's going to go away. A spokesperson for ABC Entertainment said this information is inaccurate. Any reports about the future of the show are purely speculative. Kimmel signs year to year deals. Now, again. Jimmy Kimmel going away would be a boon for America. Jimmy Kimmel. I'm old enough to remember when Jimmy Kimmel was funny. Like when he was actually funny. So I grew up in Los Angeles and he was the sports guy. He was known as Jimmy the sports guy on one of six point seven K rock, which my carpool mates used to listen to to my annoyance. But he was easily the funniest thing on the air is him and Adam Carolla. They were the funniest guys on one of six point seven. And and then he decided to turn into an unfunny woke scold. And he was going to spend his entire life. On the air, just being as liberal and annoying as possible. And so, for example, during the pandemic, he suggested that the unvaccinated should go ahead and die. And I don't know that I'm to mourn for the end of his show. Will you?
Speaker 10That choice doesn't seem so tough to me. Vaccinated person having a heart attack. Yes. Come right on in. We'll take care of you. Unvaccinated guy who gobbled horse goo. Rest in peace. Wheezy.

And Alex Preddy had been caught on tape multiple times getting into violent interactions with the cops. So, and Jimmy Kimmel, the fact that he is reaching the, it is just amazing that we had several decades where our late night was Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel. And Stephen Colbert. And that was like the best we had to offer. That was it. Now, speaking of culture and the stupidities thereof, there was a story that involved yours truly that started to go viral yesterday. So there's an actor named Nick Offerman. You remember him? He's Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec. He's actually terrific in a series called Death by Lightning on Netflix, where he plays Chester A. Arthur. Great series. Okay. But apparently he was on some podcast or something and he got very annoyed at me. Very annoyed at me based on a clip from three years ago in which I was talking about, an episode of The Last of Us. He was nominated for an Emmy for this episode of The Last of Us. So frankly, I don't remember what I said three years ago. So why don't we assess what I said three years ago and whether I am right or whether I am wrong about this episode of The Last of Us that apparently makes me a vicious, terrible homophobe or something.

Speaker 1to see it as well. This is Ben Shapiro. So the entire plot of the episode is that Ron Swanson, Nick Offerman, but he actually plays Ron Swanson, but Ron Swanson who likes to nail dudes. So Ron Swanson, a libertarian who hates the government and lives in his basement and is a prepper, but also is gay. Ron Swanson during the zombie apocalypse, he's having himself a grand old time. For some reason, his town is completely not hit by any of the zombies. It's like completely left alone. And so he goes out and gets all of his resources. And then he builds a nice fence around his place and he sets up all of these booby traps. So if anybody shows up, whether they're raiders, whether they're zombies, they're going to get killed. And then somehow another dude ends up like falling into one of his traps and they meet and they bang and they end up becoming a couple. Okay. So you can see it here, right? There there's, there's gay Ron Swanson. And, uh, it's complete with like sex scenes and the whole thing. And the entire episode has no zombies, no real threat. And it is. about two gay dudes who meet and have a relationship in which one grows strawberries for the other and then they die but not being killed by zombies or under threat one dies he gets cancer and he decides to essentially euthanasia himself and gay ron swanson decides that he is also going to to commit suicide at the same time because romeo and juliet or romeo and romeo in this particular case okay so i'm right that's what the episode's about and what i went on to say is it's a bizarre episode because again the last of us is not brokeback mountain the last of us is a zombie show and again the politics of left of us are very much to the left there's like a trans character in the show and all that my only point was this episode is a complete digression from the entire plot line of the show which again the director and producers admitted that they just wanted to put sort of a gay romance in the middle of the show apparently because i you accurately described the plot of the episode this makes me a homophobe and also he says i was ripping into his masculinity or something which i don't know why he's being homophobic me saying that your dude wants to bang dudes i didn't actually challenge your masculinity i don't know why you're saying that that's non-masculine nick offerman i don't know what you have against gay people that somehow dudes who want to bang dudes are unmasculine or something like i'm just wondering what in that clip was quote-unquote homophobic seriously what in the clip was homophobic in any way it would have been totally bizarre by the way for there to be a a an episode involving say an old man and an old woman meeting falling in love and then dying of cancer in the middle of a zombie show it'd been strange so that was my entire take on that and i also pointed out in that clip also that it's hard to think of a less important story in the middle of a zombie apocalypse than a relationship incapable of producing another generation because again the entire question of a zombie apocalypse is is there another generation of humans and so two people meeting not being able to have kids and then dying not involving zombies is a digression just in terms of it's a digression but apparently this makes me a vicious homophobe and nick offerman is gonna call me out nick offerman all right dude whatever well that's

Speaker 13team and what's the latest here uh the absolute latest is in the wake of sophie cunningham's coming out and saying, "Hey, men shouldn't be able to compete in women's sports, the WNBA lost its mind. And a lot of players, coaches, and owners said, hey, you know what? We actually would welcome men who identify as women into the league. And being as inclusive as I am and being as committed to the trans agenda as I am, I said, I want to get a WNBA franchise. We will call them the Nashville Balls. Nashville does not have a WNBA franchise yet. Please take my expansion check fee. And in an effort to be the most inclusive team that has ever existed in the history of mankind, we will have a 100% roster of men who identify as women. Our slogan will be one love, but two balls. And we will, I believe, embark upon the greatest dynastic dominance in the history of sports. We will make the Brady-era Patriots seem like, you know, also Rams. And I also, following, the logic of the WNBA players, coaches, and owners, I also stepped up and I said, look, I will pay $10 million to the Las Vegas Aces. People probably don't realize this, but they're the defending WNBA champs right now, Ben. They make $7 million for the entire year. If they can beat a high school boys state champion team of my choice, I will give them $10 million. No one from the Aces has responded. No one from the WNBA has responded. I think this would be the most watched WNBA game of all time. And then, Ben, I stepped it up even more. I said, an eighth grade boys team of my choice against the WNBA champions, and still zero response from the WNBA. It's really just a slap in the face to true titans of inclusivity like myself that the WNBA is spurning my attempt to bring two balls to every basketball court.
Speaker 1And I have to say that these women, they're shortchanging their own players because obviously these women would be slated to make a lot more money if they were to take you up on your offer. The WNBA would become far more popular. The skill level would improve radically, but I guess they don't care about any of those things because they just wish to discriminate against trans people, which is a shocking thing from such a league that has based itself on the idea of tolerance and inclusivity. Pretty unbelievable stuff, frankly. So I wanted to also get your take, Clay, while you're here, on the WNBA. On this controversy over whether NFL players should be able to play college football. So apparently, there have been a couple of players who were drafted by the NFL. They actually played brief stints in the NFL. And now they are going to go back to college. These are two players who I guess played for Ole Miss. And now they're going to go back to college to play because, again, the distinction between amateur and professional sports has basically been obliterated. What do you make of that?
Speaker 13Yeah, what you hit on is the key here. How do you distinguish between what is and isn't is not a college athlete when college athletes are often making more money to play college than many pros are. And what happened here was players went into NFL preseason camps. They were cut. And then they decided, wait a minute, I still have eligibility in college. I want to go back to college and be able to make money to play college football. And the SEC, the Southeastern Conference, decided we're going to have to draw a line here. We're not going to permit this to occur. And so... So they have been suing LSU. Now, it seems like, at least this morning, it seems like LSU has kind of basically relented and said, okay, we won't roster these guys. But the SEC has a hearing today in a federal district court in Alabama where they are seeking the right to kick LSU out of the Southeastern Conference as the most significant of the penalties if LSU will not accede to conference. Again, it seems like LSU has kind of stepped off the brinksmanship here and is not going to try to roster these former NFL players now. But I think it speaks to the larger issue that you just laid out, which is, for a long time, college said that all of the athletes were student-athlete amateurs. The Supreme Court said 9-0. The NCAA is a restraint of trade. We can't keep players from being able to be compensated for their talents. And now, in the NFL, it was initially name, image, and likeness, which is basically just you could do endorsement deals. It rapidly moved into pay-to-play.
Speaker 1Well, again, the thing about college sports, and again, I'm not a huge college sports guy. I like professional sports. But the thing about college sports is it was always pay-to-play. I mean, everybody was always bribing each other under the table, going all the way back to the 50s and 60s. This is a real thing. The way that you recruited players to your basketball team back in the 80s and 90s was that you slipped a truck to mom and dad. I mean, this notion that pay was never moving or that most of these players were getting into school based on their scores and stellar GPA and that they were really working harder for that engineering degree. I mean, it was a professional team that was basically attached to a school as a fundraising ploy. And now, all of that has sort of been exposed. I don't know. I'm kind of on the side of the players in LSU. I kind of think that you should be able to just go back and play college ball. And by the way, in my opinion, this is not going to hold because there will be some D3 college that doesn't make that much money off its sports team right now that will decide, hey, I'll take those NFL players and then we will go compete with another team and we'll just dominate them because we have NFL players on our roster.
Speaker 13Well, look, I mean, this is one of the things that I think Congress has to fix because what you've hit on is in the wake of a 9-0 Supreme Court case. By the way, can we just mention the NCAA lost 9-0. We can't even get the Supreme Court to agree men can't compete in women's sports. To lose 9-0, as you well know, is pretty difficult to do in this day and age. They have to have an antitrust exemption. Because really what the NCAA is dealing with is any attempt to put in place a rule that cuts what someone might be compensated is immediately challenged. There's a great deal of forum shopping going on here, which you can appreciate. If you want to play in Mississippi, you're filing in local Mississippi courts, right? If you want to play in Texas, Texas courts, you're getting some home cooking in terms of the rulings. Right now, the LSU versus SEC is Louisiana State Court against Alabama Federal Court. And so the challenge is without that antitrust exemption, putting in place any form of restraint of trade is immediately seen as an antitrust violation in the wake of that Supreme Court case. So this is one of the few opportunities where Congress actually does have a role to play in terms of trying to figure out what the rules going forward are for college athletics.
Speaker 1Yeah, and again, I think that probably Congress won't be able to do anything because Congress is never able to do anything. And college sports will basically end up like the Olympics, where it used to be that the men's basketball team in the Olympics was a bunch of amateurs. And now it's just a bunch of people from the NBA because the dividing line between amateur and professional has completely collapsed. Speaker 1Meanwhile, things got hot in Iran again. Yesterday, CENTCOM struck five Iranian crude oil tankers that were based off of Karg Island. Initially, some people thought that they were actually bombing Karg Island and maybe some of us got a little excited, but that's actually not what happened. What actually happened is that the United States took out a bunch of Iranian oil tankers, the shadow tankers. They have an entire shadow fleet of unflagged vessels that are shipping oil in and out of Iran. That's not working for them, by the way. The Iranian real has now collapsed to a level of 2.3 million per American dollar. So their economy is non-existent at this point. According to CENTCOM, it destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers near Karg Island. That was after the IRGC targeted a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the past year. They're trying to draw America into a broader conflict at this point, but they keep missing and we keep knocking it down. U.S. warships successfully evaded the attempted Iranian attacks and continue to patrol regional waters. No American personnel were harmed. Iran has used the tankers as CENTCOM as part of a multi-billion dollar shadow network that funds the IRGC and its regional proxies. Iran has no means by which to defend these vessels. What you're starting to see again is Iran thrashing against the cordon that has been drawn around it. So the Houthis are starting to get pretty uppity with regard to the Saudis. Over in Yemen, Saudi has been winning victories in Western Yemen against the Houthis. And so the Houthis are trying to go back up against Saudi. Saudi are back, the Houthis are backed by the Iranians. I will admit that I do find it somewhat hilarious that Turkey and Pakistan, which both signed a common defense pact with Saudi Arabia, and Houthi is right now attacking Saudi. They're all like, yay, Saudi, we have solidarity with you. Here's a high five. You have a nuclear armed power in Pakistan and a very heavily armed Turkey. And they're both, It's like, yeah, Well, our solidarity extends to this ceremonial handshake. Yeah, great, great alliance you have there, bros. According to CNN, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen launched a major attack on southwestern Saudi Arabia early on Tuesday, targeting oil and other infrastructure in an escalation that risks widening the region's conflicts and adding further pressure to crude prices. Again, they're trying to put pressure, Iran is via its proxies, on various American allies, hoping those allies will push the United States to basically free up all the oil coming out of Iran. That's not going to happen. Secretary of State Rubio said the Houthis are agents of the Iranians, which, of course, is true.
Speaker 14The Houthis, in many ways, are agents and proxies of the Iranians. I think behind some of this is clearly the Iranian hand. The U.S. has a very strong defensive military relationship with Saudi Arabia, and we're watching those events very closely. It's been going on for some time. I think there's been some ground operations as well, where Yemeni forces are taking on the Houthis and pushing back against some of the ground advances that they attempted to make. And we're monitoring that, as I said, very, very closely.
Speaker 1And one of the big sins of the Biden administration is that they pushed very hard for the Saudis to let the Houthis go, because, of course, the Biden administration, horrible on every possible front for them to be horrible. Iran then responded, by the way, to us nailing some of their tankers by launching ballistic missiles into Jordan. Here's what that looked like. You can see some of the intercepts that are happening. Up in the air. A lot of these are cluster munitions, by the way, which means that they are essentially dissolving as they get close to the target and spraying out soccer sized shrapnel and bombs out into the broader area. Again, all of this is Iran just struggling against the the grip, the iron grip that the United States and our allies have placed around Iran. So Iran has very serious trouble at this point. The Iranians are trying to pretend that everything is fine. The Iranian foreign minister. He he's minimizing of the sanctions, suggesting that actually things are fine. Quote, after 47 years of sanctions, the U.S. went to war with Iran on behalf of Israel. The fallout has been disastrous for America, including its standing worldwide. After failing to achieve its aims through sanctions of war, Washington's novel solution is more sanctions. Seriously? Yes. Seriously. Your currency no longer exists. They don't exist. Also, the United States Treasury has grounded Iranian airlines. This is a huge problem for Iran because Iran's airlines, according to Miod Maleki for FDD, they are hard currency earners, ticket sales in dirhams and lira, cargo and overflight fees. And now the United States has designated all 27 remaining Iranian airlines, plus Mahan Air's enablers in the UAE, Turkey and the UK, Malaysia and Kazakhstan under powerful terrorism sanctions. So the carve outs that even allow them to replace their their parts are gone. So basically, the entire Iranian economy is set to collapse. That is where we currently stand. And it turns out that the successful strategy that we are currently engaging in with regard to Iran is creating significant damage. Speaking of significant damage, Russia is really taking it on the chin. So the Ukrainians have gotten extraordinarily creative, particularly in their use of drone technology, and they've been bombing Russian refineries. And you can see on the charts, their crude oil processing, and it is just it has plummeted. It is through the floor. This is a chart put out by Ian Bremmer demonstrating their crude oil processing by Russian refineries. Just it is it is tanked. No pun intended. I mean, it is down from about 5.5 billion barrels a day down to less than four. So they are down really, really a long way. The United States is obviously hoping that this is going to prod the Russians into some sort of concessions. So Vladimir Putin has been meeting with Steve Woodcoff and Jared Kushner, and I have very little faith in Steve Woodcoff's negotiating ability. Given his prior history, here's what it looked like when they arrived.

Speaker 1Just press it. Get the secret. Oh, not loving the look of that. Got to admit, not not not big on the Woodcoff train here. Meanwhile, Jared Kushner suggested there's no such thing as forever enemies or forever allies, hoping that there will be some sort of deal here. Again, I think highly unlikely this is in Ukraine.
Speaker 15Look, you know, we were sitting before with with Germany, right, which was a former enemy of the U.S. And so there's no such thing, you know, in the world as as, you know, forever enemies or forever allies. And so, you know, we have to start with the first principles idea of what the best outcome could be and what benefits all people. You know, President Trump comes from the business world, which in the business world, you think about things in the context of win win. You know, how do you create opportunities for both sides to do what's in their interest? War is negative. Some, you know, everyone loses from war, whereas, you know, business and peace is positive. Some and hopefully you can find big benefits from that in a big way.
Speaker 1Now, again, I hope that's right. I am doubtful. Kaha Kalas is the vice president of the European Commission, says, I think quite correctly, Russia is not interested in peace. And this seems more correct to me.
Speaker 16I'm happy to see that the first time the special envoys also visited Kiev, what it meant for the Ukrainians was three days of. No bombing for the civilians. So I think that's that's the positive side of this visit, although they have been several times to to Russia. I hope that they also heard, you know, what the situation on the ground is. And and Ukrainians also showed them that Russia is not really interested in peace. The opposite. When they are losing, you know, the initiative on the ground, they are bombing civilians from the sky. So at the moment, we don't see that Russia is really interested in peace because they have not, you know, given one or provided one single concession.
Speaker 1So, again, I think that's probably right. Listen, I'm all for talks as long as they lead somewhere. If not, then, you know, let the Ukrainians squeeze them. Fine with me.
