Yeah, it's supposed it is in a way, isn't it? Yeah, like, need you to get something. Oh, something we're in trouble. We need to get back under the line. So it's fascinating, isn't it? How it's going to play out? And we know that the club have been very proactive with this, haven't they? You know, in terms of we know beforehand with PSR, they always were trying to skirt the line and be tight on it and spend every penny that they could. And we know they'll be doing exactly the same with the new squad cost ratios. Well, I think it also enhances the need for the stadium development, doesn't it? Yes. Because again, that is going to increase your capacity to spend because it's going to increase your football income. And it also shows why they cannot afford to lose a single seat during the build of the West stand. Because if you suddenly lost all of the income that you're getting from the West stand now, whilst you just rebuilt one side of your stadium, that's going to impact you in terms of your percentages for the next couple of years, which is why they're so determined to not lose a single seat of hospitality or indeed general admission during the next few years, whilst the stadium has been built over the next three years. And if anybody who's been passed the stadium recently on the M61 side, the back of the cockpit. Did he sit him on it? Yeah, there's a big stretch of going up there, which is to sort of help the hospitality that has to be compromised, I would say, by the rebuild and the new generation, they'll be moved down into there. Yeah, if you were in the Bremner suite or the Hunter suite, that's where you're going to find yourselves next season. And it's because Purgmaritane is statement, Johnny, or WikiGurth. Yeah, but his onslaught doesn't really. Yeah, he mentions that and how, obviously he said, "Great season, fantastic that we've achieved what we wanted to do to stay in the division with three games to spare." But I think the key elements for me were the talks about the redevelopment Ellen Road in exactly the terms that you just mentioned there, why it's so important to help you and who leads to grow and to obviously create revenue. But also to say how difficult it is even next year, to make sure that leads stay in the division again too. And I think he's managing expectations, don't you? And it's to just what is realistic for leads. And people might not want to hear that, but I do think we know statistically it's really difficult to stay in for two years. Never mind, just one year, isn't it? But for all the reasons you've just mentioned, it's so important that leads continues to evolve and keeps that money coming in and to make sure that Squagco's ratio is sort of adhere to, which in the immediate term doesn't do leads as many favors as PSR did, but down the line it should be okay. That's why you will have heard that they voted against it originally. That's did some other clubs too. Yeah, the Rookobla key lines weren't there in the Maritay statement. The summer, he said, instead of profit and sustainability, the Squagco's ratio will impact our transfer market approach. As our accounts reflect, we spent every penny possible as promised to earn promotion and keep the club in the Premier League. Our approach to the transfer market will once again be strategic and disciplined to comply with regulations, whilst striving further to improve and players will both arrive and depart as a result to remain in the Premier League allows us to keep building both on and off the pitch with our global support base commercial growth opportunities, stadium expansion projects and a world class football operation we believe strongly in the future have lead united. Now, the first part of that, some fans didn't particularly like the first part of that day that it's going to have to once again be a disciplined transfer window. We have said all along that we feel and we understand that it's going to be a similar amount that they will be able to spend this summer as it was last summer, right? That's where the club finds itself. Some people feel like after a year in the Premier League, they should be able to spend more, but clearly they need to do things in a structured disciplined way as he says there. There is exact words. That's how they have to do this summer, which won't mean willingly spending here and there, surely. No, well, as I said, the SCR stuff is impacted negatively in a sense, certainly in the short term about what you can do. So if we were to say they spent 100 million last year, I'd say that's probably going to be about that there, but we've just talked through the ways that you can create more headroom. So inevitably, for me, John, I think that they're going to have to, if they want to make some more room to bring some quality players and then they'd have to sell some players too. So we can talk about that. But I think this summer is very much about quality over quantity. I'm not saying they went and bought loads at players last year, they didn't, but I'd say I'd three key areas that we've talked about a lot on this podcast, including the Goldkeeper there too, would be, I think, would be essential. And you know, with the amount of money that we think we're talking, then it doesn't go that far, but leads have a core of players that can keep them in the division. Yeah. And evolved this year as well, and they're probably going to do a little bit better, but they just need that sprinkling of quality to go with them. And I think that's where they'll be focused in their resources this summer. A couple of things that are still floating around our new deals for players, which haven't heard anything on this. This is really important. Yeah, Ethan Amperdo obviously being the absolute key one, isn't it, to get him tied down. I mean, the two things, Farquham's Health, obviously the manager, still under contract, as is Ethan Amperdo, but I'd say those are the two key, and we know that the race between the two, those people is really important because he's his most important player. Farquham's been essential to this progress really, too, as well. So to me, I think they're the two key things going forward. And it is retaining players. And I think it's got to be a difficult juggle, is to who you might think is a key player or a fan might think is a key player that might have to be part of, and I mean, say, sacrifice, but part of a deal to think, okay, well, yeah, we'll take the money for him because we can go and do this. There might be a bit of that. So it might look different to the last season where there was, we know, for example, there was a lot to talk about Pascal last summer, I wasn't that a lot to talk about. And they made the decision, didn't they? We're keeping our best players, and then we're going to go from there. And Robbie Evans told us that, I didn't say the MD. So will it be the same? This is, I think there'll be every attempt to try and keep the best players, but is there other deals to be had that enhanced, Legionited that were different to last year? And I'm thinking particularly, say, in a number 10 position, which they didn't really find, if they until they brought wood and nothing later on, then that didn't work out a little bit. But that, he doesn't come back to say, I can't see that. Can you, Johnny? So, but do they get that guy? Do they get that? Sprinkle magic, which will cost a lot of money. So, so what do they have to do to do that and build the rest of the squad that they need to do? But look, it's not a, it's not a rebuild, is it? No, it just isn't. It's, it's enhancing now and taking it to the, to the next phase. So, but it all costs money, I get that. And, you know, there may be some chair and that people aren't particularly happy with. Yeah. Do we think what the non-tours going? We didn't really talk about his Instagram post when we spoke last week, but we can read into it in this social media, isn't it? You can read into it. What you like on Instagram, he posted some pictures at Ellen Road and, and posted, thank you Ellen Droad. And for me, the most telling part actually was the, the reply to that post was from Pascal Stroik, and he just put like a welling up emoji, you know, a sort of tearful emoji face, you know, which you can read into it, all you want to read into it. That's me reading to it. Is that the last time we're in on to us playing at Ellen Road? That's why he's saying thank you. And that's why Pascal, who's clearly going to be a mate of his, you know, is going to know that in the summer, he's probably planning to go to elsewhere. He's not getting the football time he needs. So, not just for the benefit of Legionite, benefit of willing on to, signing for what three and a half million quid worth more than that now, profit, you know? Yes, I think they had to, in fact, they had to accelerate it a bit to get him out and in. I think they actually had to pay a little bit more than that. And didn't they? But whatever you say, I think you'll end up, look, if you were so willing on to, I don't think you get the 40 million that was mentioned with regards to ever to the feel a little while ago, are you? But you will get, it will, you'll make a size of a profit. There's no doubt about it. And this goes back to again, how will leads look next season? Daniel Farck and Mike want something like willing on to to be around and part of it. But as you say, willing on to having a year, literally on the bench, you know, thinking, do I need more? And is there, is there a way forward for me at leads in a system that probably won't radically change? I'm going to throw over the summer. And it's interesting because we've not spoke to Willie at Palace, but when he speaks to Dan James, who look very ease with having to adapt his role, maybe at Legionite, you'd think. Yeah, acknowledging of the fact that if you want to see more game time, he's going to have to change his role. That's when you split to me, did sort of suggest that didn't he really? Yeah, that's that. And maybe Willie, Willie's the same, but Willie's that, but younger as Nanny, you know what, I need to, do I need to reclaim it, my Italy sort of career, if you like, because he'd had that time in the scene, he'd squad end the 21s, and you know, you're not going to get that if you're all, if you're sat on the bench, particularly not getting that many minutes. Do you know what I felt? He was really impactful towards the back end of the season. So I'm sort of low to think, how is he going to go? But people will be reading into it, what you've for the reasons you've just said, Johnny, but because it's not always about what the club wants necessarily. Yeah, players have got that power. They have a lot of time. It's about what the players want, not what the club is. But I do think what I would say, and this is very much based on the experience we've probably both had over the last two decades around the club, it's that they seem to be, it's all very adult and it's all very, it's all done in a way that's the best for leads. There's no sort of quick sales just to only this cash and we're off with this bit or we're doing this or there's something weird happening or you know, it's all done, you know, to move, you know, dare I say it, the whole business forward. I know it doesn't sound great, does it? But as I said, there'll be someone comfortable in this, I will have thought this summer, but you know, we've been there before, Johnny haven't we, you know, these, these some, and players go and it's always said when you've got a bond with a set of players, which I think it's been that's been reincarnated in the last sort of couple years that people like this bunch of players. So if they were to go anything to go then there's there's a yeah, some hard feeling isn't it? And look, particularly someone like a Pascal, let's say, you know, saying that was to yeah, who's been like really long time now. Yeah, sort of thing, you know, Willie, yes, he had that. He was badly advised, I think, in that particular summer, but overall he's a really, really likeable character and you know scored some stunning goals and some great moments just, you know, great guy sort of to be around places and all that sort of stuff. You know, a bit like Georgino was doing just just got a really positive effect on those people around him. And so if yeah, they are to go then it's going to be a little bit difficult, isn't it? I think for yeah, if you've bought non-so and put it on the back of your shirt, you know, or a strap or whoever. Yeah, hey, who knows we could be sat in August and everything's tied up exactly. And that's that, you know, the club will evolve off the field and squads evolve on the field, you know, and players who are at the club right now will become favourites and players who have been favourites will multi particle that's football that's football through and through, isn't it? So, if you're going to be able to comply with the regulations while striving to further improve is it likely to be another venture into the free agent market or should they try and use the loan market more effectively says if it's the free agent market would call and will send a proven goal score in the Premier League with frequent impacts for West, I'm off the bench last season, be a useful acquisition. And Andrew, pro and attacker too far given that we have DCL met your aquifor and James are ready in the squad. He says all would be looking at loan players be less financially risky and showing obligations to buy clauses. So, if you're going to be able to improve the squad for next season, it could be the likes of Liam Delapet Chelsea or Harvey L.A Liverpool on loan who are young players with a point to prove. And if they achieve their potential, they could be shrewd additions to the attack. Alan Wilson was particularly a good example because I think a year ago he was very much being taught about his possibility, you know, is he sort of got should be going for and he thought, oh, Andrew record not good. But does he fit that slot in between Mecher and DCL, which I think everybody says lot leads probably do need another striker. Does he do that? I think still I think it's a bit risky. Yeah, you know, but he he he knows within it. It's nice. So he does. But I think that people will be pretty underwhelmed if next season kicks off with DCL Mecher and Wilson as the as the three strikers not because of DCL Mecher. Yeah, because the only addition in that area, if it was the only addition of being Column Wilson, I don't think I'd play out too well with the reaction of the fan base. And also if if he was the serious consideration last season, why didn't happen last season, I mean, so I think the prospect of somebody like that who could fit maybe in between the two. Yeah, to bolster. I think, yeah, I get that, but maybe not him. What about loans? What about a lot of marketing? It's a really difficult one for Premier League clubs to learn players from other Premier League clubs because you don't know how the season's going to pan out. You know, you don't, okay, they've done it with Bonn and not here. That didn't really that didn't really work. But what if leads are flying and it's because of one of the players that Chelsea have longed them and leads, let's say they get a D'Alap and all the sudden delaps going loads of goals and leads above Chelsea in the lit. I just think there's there'll be reluctance there. Surely I think also judging on what Daniel Farc as said to that he doesn't really like the nice. Never been a big fan of it. I think if you get them in early for beginning part of the season, say, and that normally means that they haven't had the preseason with you obviously, you know, it's not going to back end what do deal get them in what he wanted with Bruno Nottay or with Wilson or what he want to buy Wilson, didn't they? But with Bonn and not to say, maybe it would have been different if he got him in the beginning of the season. Yeah, yeah, rather than sort of late on and he didn't really get up to speed whatever. So it's not an area which I think they're particularly looking at I would say to move them forward. Someone like Harvey Elliott who clearly is just hit the buffers with probably a lot of it was out of his own hands really wasn't the way that the deal was structured with Villa that if he was going to play another game and then yeah, there's not the reason I wasn't there. But yeah, is it the other things really good player? Is he or at least quite blessed in that area? Is he is he the difference maker? Nothing similar as a midfielder and he's he's got something about him definitely, but is he better than having stacked there and we don't know what exactly is doing. We don't you know, he's not being deployed as much as everyone probably thought he should would be, you know, okay, I get the contract situation that he mentioned, but I don't know. It's a tricky one. I do think this summer we'll see Continental arrivals. I think that will be a path to go down because I think that it will also financially be cheaper than going and getting players that have already got the Premier League experience behind them. Doesn't mean they won't get any Premier League experience. I think they will. Yeah, but I think they will also have to mix it with some Continental flair. Yeah, okay. And to be fair, the players that have come through that haven't had the experience of English football have done really well in the main. If you think the right ones, yeah, obviously previously the former owners picked the wrong ones. Yeah, no, I think they've done they've done really well in that respect. You've got to think of as well as having that sort of homegrown situation too because you know, you're going to, you know, a less sun by I'm signed another deal. You know, there's another player that's getting on its cans. So you've got to think about that who's coming through this season. I mean, as well, we're talking on players come through you know, Jen Lino who's came from Man City, but has been caught up to the well scene. It's one of these two games. No, so, is there a young players out for Creswell that are going to sort of hurry, go up Harry Gray and make make the squadron a bit, you know, a bit more rounded with with Academy players, I would say. So you've got to keep that in mind too. And then after that. Yeah, what generally are leads now in a position to go for a better Premier League season player that's been around a little bit that can now to the experience, but not necessarily primarily experienced this year than say, sure, long staff, yeah, which brings me on to the email from Steve on show long staff because I think it's a fair point. It says, hi team, thanks for your amazing coverage over the last season, really good. Thank you very much, Stephen says one question. Why do you never talk about long staff at his lack of starts and his future role in the team? He had a cracking start to the season. And then at a few starts, but every time he comes on for a few minutes, he plays well and scores some great things. I was he not key part of the team this year and will he come into his own next jolly is better than Arons and all the best you. And to lead for next season says Stephen, I do think it could be second seasons in drum for for sure long staff possibly, you know, he might be one that we see more of and see the best of this coming season, injuries didn't as well that hampered him a little bit. And that's the Arsenal game where we went down didn't really part the season and we thought great star obviously got the win against Everton and you think, All right, OK, finding the feet, Arsenal. Wow. Yeah, felt really like are they out there depth here for a moment and long staff came on. I think the score was well away from at the time as well. And I just saw the way he went about trying to keep it and respectable and trying to urge people on to still give their very best even though the game was gone. I thought, Oh, yeah, there's something about this guy that's a winner and a competitor and has got every bit of now. So it's going to lift the bar with this team. And why would that be any different this season now? So he'll be frustrated. No doubt there's an absolute game to it. Yeah, I think it's going to be one to two, but I'm with you, Johnny. I think there could be every chance that he gets that bit more this season. I sort of hope so as well. Yeah, I think he's got a lot, a lot to give still. Yeah, and then you have if you keep the home in field, you've got him in there along with. And you've got Ampadoo, you got stack, I mean, Griff, you know, Griff's got one year left, right? So he might be one that we maybe talk about us as someone goes on and whether he's future is still Alain Road or whether that is elsewhere that I've been interesting one. Also on the emails, FPL, FPL has done now. However, we have this email in from John Spring it and everyone will know if you've been listening throughout the season, John Spring it is the man who won our FPL league says hello FPL legends, love the podcast this and every week. It regulates companies me on my walk to him from work. You may have tweaked from the name that somehow I'm managed to win the don't go to bed just yet fantasy Premier League. I can't help but feel slightly jummy because if Liam had put his bench in any other order on the final day, he would have beaten me. I'll take the win though. Now you see, I learned something there that the order of your bench can earn you more points. I had no idea about that all season puppy. I had no idea about that. So I think next season now I'm going to rom parley because I had no idea that was a thing that the order of your bench if a player doesn't play the next play on your bench jumps in. So you get the points. I'm going to rom that's Adam Falshaw right there. Johnny booking. We'll take that. He says also he wants to give a shout out to David. Murphy who was the winner of the FPL Cup, he says if you haven't given a shout out to him as well. Liam's a, he says, I thought about your email just in case, in case John Spring, it didn't come forward. He says, but I'm good to miss out by only five points. He says the late DCL goal against Brighton cost me as I had double Brighton defense that day. He says, Johnny, if you want any tips for next season, let me know. Yes, absolutely. I will take you up on that. But he does have a point to make as well about the actual season. He goes on to say, it's been a great season, great position, both on and off the field and the stadium expansion clubbing good hands. He says, it's really important. We don't make the same mistakes that we did after the first season back in the Premier League last time around. We have to strengthen the team and push forward. Hey, a lot of people say we need to improve the bench and backup players, but surely the way to do this is to improve your first 11 and then your current first team players become strong bench op into says, I'm also surprised we haven't tied amp blue down to a new contract yet. Thought he would have been done in the background and would have been announced the moment safety was confirmed. Anything we need to worry about, Poppy. I think, look, I do think it's one of the preeminent things got to sort out with Legionite is to tie amp blue down, I would say. I think once you've started doing that and sorting out those key players that are going to stay at the club, it certainly helps you sort the rest of the acquisition town, doesn't it? The recruitment process, I would say. So tying those things out is really essential, but it's not a simple process necessarily. And who knows? We're not privy to the international issues. Behind the scenes, running commentary where we're at with deals and stuff like that, it's all very private and done that way. Sometimes some agents will come out and say, so quite publicly, weren't they just as or sturthier, but no. It's not really like that would lead to these days as it is done pretty professionally. Yeah, I don't want to say clandestine because that sounds like it's sneaky. It's nice. Don't profess in private. And I imagine it would be one of those things that they'll say, right, it's done and hopefully and then it will be people least, but right now, I'm not worried. I grew with the point there as well, made by Liam of like in Proofy First 11. And then you eventually get stronger because of the fact that your current first 11 would drop to be a bench 11. It's not going to be all 11, of course, it's not, but you have a few people in terms of numbers to improve the first 11. He's absolutely going to be the priority, wouldn't it? Johnny, I think Liam's absolutely right there. And it's a long time since I can recall leads having two players in every position that would, that you could quite easily interchange. Now I go back and I kept the championship and leads haven't long been in it after relegation. It was the second season. Remember when Kevin Blackwell had them, it was the 0506 season, every position had two good players and you thought K then would get leads promoted. And Steve Stone came in and got injured in the in the preseason. He was out pretty much the whole of the season. And I think that area was the one that they were a little bit weak because David Hilly had to play out wide a little bit at some time. You can't miss it for that. And you can't. And they were looking at Keith Gillespie as well and it was a bit of a tie. I think he went to the blades, actually, didn't he? But every position, you felt that they're more than capable of just bringing somebody in and still winning your promotion. They went close, obviously, and the Spam and Sendings, often the semi and all that. But overall, it was a well-balanced squad, I thought. It's just how well you selected the players to play in the right positions. I mean, just look at that, though. We've gone from talking about spending another 100 million this summer in a monetization and a new stadium in a West stand and signing people like Ethan Amp, who wants a new contract and willing non-to for a 10 million quid getting sold or whatever it might be. And then we've gone on to Steve Stone and Keith Gillespie. Like, you know, I mean, just the way that these football club has sort of, yeah, true. Obviously, it's a long period of time, but it's just that contrast, isn't it? Well, it was to wear it. And Johnny, if you are looking and we would all say, yes, you've got two quality players in position to get that in the Premier League as a fortune. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, if you look at, say Liverpool this season, the sat the manager and you've had a player like Canate, playing at the back, who's nowhere near the standard, I would say, I'd say Kirkett, I don't think anywhere near the standard for what they are expecting. Yes, they've made Champions League, they've fell into Champions League, haven't they? Yeah, but that just shows you to be, to keep at the standard required. Oh, sort of. It's so tough. So, and that's where Parag's right, you've got to be, it's not saying be careful, it's just like magic. Yeah, absolutely. To build that squad, to where they need to go. And, you know, think where Liverpool are is right at the top as well, isn't it? Well, leads are trying to build together. And we've seen it with Brentford, you've seen it with Brent, you see it to his tent with Villa now, I mean Villa, amazing sort of, they nearly didn't make it into the top flight. They only just survived, you could say weirdly in the top flight. And now they've kicked on and they've done it, you think in a, in a sustainable way, you know, with a manager that's been unbelievable for the state. So, and it just shows what can be done. So, I would be more alarmed if, if, if, or more annoyed if Parag could come up and say, right, yeah, we're going to go for it. Yeah. We're going to be, you know, or, or insinuate that there were going to be a little bit, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, right. We'll take the points, we'll take the fight, whatever, you know, you'll never do that. You just got to say, absolutely not. But, I can't sit here and, and pretend that I know what a fan must feel because some people, I think, you're right, they don't want to know about, they don't want to know about any of that. They just want to say ambition. Yeah, you want to say ambition. And just because the words might not translate as ambition, you know, into your mind, because it's not appealing to your heart, say, I think we both know that they are ambitious and we know that the manager is and the players are, of course, they are. And the players must feel, Johnny, this, after this year, that, especially the ones that have been regularly, you know, sort of 30 plus appearances, they must see, you know, well, this, this club is, it could be touching something really good soon, you know, I pick up Sammy, finish 14th in the table. Ooh, a bit more. Yeah. What's, what's capable? What could be ahead West Stadium coming all up? Yeah, exactly. Yeah, we want to be a part of it. They've, they've, they've experienced, some of them experienced great highs, you know, with the promotion and the Daniel. And, and, and what that felt, I want it meant. And, and, and, you know, we, we, how many people have turned and said, believe me, you know, this crowd here is a real big draw, you know, all those celebrations have been, people have seen them, you know, leads on the map, you know, they've gone on one at old traffic, they've taken points, you know, they're not being beaten by Liverpool, they've beaten Chelsea, they've made an FA Cup semi final. All these things get people talking about it and might just swing things in your favour, who wouldn't want to come to lead tonight under this, um, situation at the moment? Yeah, absolutely right.
