And we'll bask in the satisfying irony for a moment. Let it wash over us. The federal government isn't reopening a death investigation. They're investigating the investigators. According to multiple reports, federal prosecutors sent out subpoenas in December of 2025 requesting documents from the Philadelphia Police Department, the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's office, the Pennsylvania Attorney General Office, and other agencies, so should say the probe is centered on how various agencies handled the case after Ellen died. And whether any of those missteps amount to criminal corruption. The U.S. Attorney's Office maintains its standard position. They can neither confirm nor deny an investigation exists. But the Greenberg's family attorney, Joseph Pudrazo, told ABC News, the prospect of federal involvement is a dream come true. 15 years of doors slammed in their faces. And now someone with actual subpoena power is knocking. To understand why this matters, you need to understand who touched this case and what they did. Because the list of irregularities doesn't read like a botched investigation. It reads like a blueprint for making evidence disappear. Which does make me wonder a little bit as the feds come knocking, going, we'd like this document, that document, and the other document. How many they're gonna go and say, we don't have those. Thanks for asking, though. Bye-bye. Appreciate it. What you're still here? We don't have those documents. What are you talking about? The way the federal government is very good at making shit just kind of disappear. And then not being accountable for how or why. Just, oh, they don't have it anymore. Guess we can't do our job of investigating. Don't be surprised if that's how there's ends. But let's hold on to hope. For a moment or two, shall we? Ellen Greenberg was found dead in her apartment in January 26th of 2011. 2011. Her fiance Samuel Goldberg called 911 until the operator, she stabbed herself for fell on a knife. Oh my gosh, she fell on the knife. It's the strangest 911 call you will ever listen to. Especially when you find out, he was never like looked into or arrested. What? Huh? The call alone is a giant red flag. But again, maintains us innocence never been charged with anything. We're not saying he did anything. We're insinuating he did anything. It's a weirdest shit call, though. And any investigator worth a grain of salt. Would have been all over that shit. Cus there's red flags go or and maybe it can all be explained. Maybe it can. People deal with trauma and tragedy and grief and all that very differently. Never seen anybody quite do it like this. But hey, there's always a first. Again, Goldberg has never been charged or named as a suspect in Ellen's death and we're not doing that. We're not saying that. We're just saying, why didn't they look at this? Huh? Seriously, why? Police on this scene treated it as a suicide from the start. For any autopsy, for any forensic analysis, because Goldberg told them the door was locked from the inside. And of course, when you show up at a crime scene and someone stabbed 20 sometimes, the first thing you do is take the word of the person that's there with the body. Well, they said that, it must be true. Okay. Thank you, Mr. Goldberg. Have a great day. We're not going to look into this at all. Because everything you're saying makes total sense until it didn't. Dr. Marlon Osborn performed the autopsy, counted 20 stab wounds, including 10 to the back of her neck, noted 11 bruises in various stages of healing and world-or-death homicide. That should have been the beginning of the murder investigation. Instead, Philadelphia police publicly disputed the finding almost immediately. Within weeks Osborn changed his ruling to suicide. No explanation given to Alan Sparins' parents has changed. And here's where it gets worse. The crime scene had already been released. Yeah. The apartment was professionally cleaned on January 27th, one day after Alan's body was found with police permission. Homicide detectives didn't return with a search warrant until January 28th and by then whatever evidence that apartment held was gone, wiped clean. That's not all that happened on January 27th according to case documents. James Schwartzman, Samuel Goldberg's uncle, and a sitting chairman of the Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board. He can't make it up. Enter the apartment that day and remove laptops, phones and credit cards belonging to both Alan and her fiancee allegedly. Police retrieved those items the following day when they finally showed up with the warrant. Schwartzman has not been charged with any wrongdoing. He got permission to get the stuff. He didn't do anything wrong. But my God, what a. I could take it, really? Okay. Ask and you shall receive. And there's no evidence that he acted improperly. But it does kind of screw up the chain of custody for rather key pieces of evidence. The optics of a judicial, official removing potential evidence from a death scene before police could secure it, have fueled questions for 15 years. And it's not like he didn't know that might look a little shitty. I mean, he's on the ethics committee. I mean, it's like, it's like, it's what you do. And you're like, of course, you know this is going to look weird. But when you don't say anything about it, you gray rocket is everyone questions you for 15 years. It doesn't really add fuel to the fire, but you're still waiting there for that fire to go out, aren't you? And because that fire hasn't gone out, because enough of us are sitting there looking at this flame of a campfire going, let's fan this a little bit. Come on. Get the flames going more. While congratulations, everybody who's been fanning the flames, the federal government is finally looking at this. You're welcome. Because that's what it takes sometimes. It takes your voices to make something happen, to make sure that that fire doesn't go out. And Ellen Greenberg's parents, thank you for your continued attention on this case. Because they're fighting it. They're never going to give up. It's their daughter. But to all of you who have sat here for these years going, I'm not going to stop talking about this until something has looked at until we actually have some sort of definitive answers. Not just, she stabbed herself 20 sometimes. You know, some of them were post mortem. It just happened. It's just weird. I don't know. Not accepting. I don't know. As the answer, good job. Good on you, but we're not there yet. We are not to the finish line, but we finally got a boulder rolling down that hill. They couldn't get caught up in some trees pretty quick. So keep questioning, keep sharing this and keep talking about this because there's a lot that we don't know yet. As a lot to come. And the only way we're going to get there is continued public pressure. It's not blaming anybody. It's asking questions and trying to find those answers. I don't know what happened. Maybe there is some weird world where she actually did end her life. And somehow this is just the weirdest coincidence and things lined up in such a bizarre way that they did. I'd love to see the evidence that proves that. So what her parents, but the way it stands now, I don't think that's what happened. I don't know who did what. Not blaming anybody. I'm not accusing anybody. I do know who the players were in that game of chess or candy land or shoots and ladders or whatever the hell horrific game you want to call this at that moment in time. So it's got to be somebody on the board. It's more like clue is what it is. In the kitchen with the knife, we got those two cards. Is it Professor Plum? These questions continue to haunt Ellen's family and anyone paying attention. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office cited search history and Ellen's computer. You know, the same computer digital device that was taken out of her house immediately after the death by Sam's uncle. Their search history information, suicide methods, painless suicide, key evidence supporting the ruling. Really? Oh, well, that's interesting. Painless suicide, disturbing yourself 20 sometimes sound like a painless suicide to you or seem like when you search suicide methods that stabbing yourself 20 sometimes is ever going to come up as a answer. Yeah. I didn't think so. Interesting. You found those little pieces of evidence and that's what we base all of this on. We base it on the fiance saying the door man was there when he broke the door down. He wasn't. So that's a lie. And then you also have the search histories from devices that were confiscated not by the police by Goldberg's family and then given back. And suddenly there's this search history on there that says this. I'm not saying they planted it. I'm not saying I don't. I'm just saying when chain of custody is broken on a piece of digital evidence like that and we don't even know the actual metadata of said search, we're just relying on them claiming that this is actually here. We've never seen this hashed out in court. They could have just made this up too. We don't have the actual evidence. Nobody is providing this going here. Here's the data. Here's the actual files of the search history. Here's what device it was done on. You can see it all in the metadata. It is what it is. No, it's just a claim out loud by the same people who say that Ellen was a zombie. They don't explicitly say zombie, but if you connect the dots with someone coming back alive and continue to stab themselves after they have incapacitated themselves, that's a fucking zombie. So those search methods, the original medical examiners report from 2011 specifically noted that nothing indicative of suicide had been found on her computer. The Greenberg family's attorneys have publicly questioned how searches that weren't found in 2011 became central to the narrative years later. The question has never been answered and now federal investigators are the ones asking it. The medical examiner's office has its own problems. Dr. Osborne's reversal from homicide to suicide set the tone for everything that followed. He never publicly explained why he changed his findings in 2024. He signed his sworn statement saying he no longer believes the suicide ruling is accurate. It's my professional opinion. He wrote, "Ellen's matter of death should be designated as something other than that since he no longer works for the office. His statement has no effect on the actual case or death certificate. It just affects tweets. It just hangs there." The original examiner says he got it wrong and nobody in a position to do anything about it can do anything about it. And there was that review in October of 25 as part of a settlement with the Greenberg family. The city agreed to have chief medical examiner. Dr. Lindsay Simon conduct an independent reassessment that went well. She found 11 more wounds than originally documented 23 stab. And in size for once 31 bruises. And she still concluded that Ellen did it herself. She called many of the wounds hesitation marks. She noted Ellen was suffering from anxiety. This God knows everyone who sat with some anxiety decides to stab themselves 20 sometimes. Better keep those knives away from me. Related to her work as a teacher also, "Oh, the kids are beating her up." The first graders. 20 sub bruises. All from. Yeah. Look, I get it. I'm engaged to an elementary teacher. Kids can be little. Yeah. Little crazy demons sometimes. And they do hit teachers. That is a thing. Yeah, they do. And it does leave bruises sometimes. But this is not that. 32 pages explaining how I went with 31 bruises in 23 stab wounds, including 10 to the back of her own neck. They did it herself. The family's attorney called it "tripe" and a premeditated conclusion. The only way Ellen can get just as Padrasa said is outside the confines of Philadelphia. Which brings us to the attorney general's office. While Ellen's parents tried to reopen the case in 2018, they reached out to the former lawyer Larry Krasner, who had become Philadelphia's district attorney. Krasner recused himself and referred the case to the Pennsylvania attorney general's office. Then run by Josh Shapiro. Shapiro's office held the case for more than a year. He was only when the Philadelphia inquire pressed for answers that spokesperson Joe Grace announced in 2019, the office had conducted a thorough investigation and determined the evidence supported the original ruling of ending it herself. He cited the computer search history. The same searches the original report indicated weren't there. When the Greenberg family delivered over 10 gigabytes of new evidence in late 2021, including 3D stab wound analysis and depositions from medical examiner officials, one of whom said Ellen was likely already dead when one of the wounds occurred. Shapiro's office said it "wrought to light no new facts." You really want to be president. Don't should, Josh. And you really wish this would go away. Become everyone's hero. Use the cover up. Because there's no new facts and those 10 gigabytes of data. The three-dimensional wound analysis, the official saying Ellen was stabbed after she was already dead. No new facts. No new facts. We've become used to leaders that lie their asses off, so I guess this is nothing new. It makes them more qualified for the job. In July of 2022, Internet slews uncovered alleged relationships between Shapiro and the Goldberg and Schwartzman family, suddenly the attorney general's office referred the case back to Philadelphia, citing the appearance of a conflict, not an actual conflict. They insisted just the appearance of one. So to be really safe, four years, they held the case before discovering that appearance. Sandy Greenberg put it plainly to Fox News. He stole four years from us. Hoping they'd die. Hoping they just waited out. Hoping the attention of the Internet would go away. Well that didn't work. Now did it. So a federal investigators determine any of this rises to criminal corruption. What are we working with? What's going to happen here? The statute's available to them are serious. 18 U.S.C. That's two four two covers deprivation of rights under color of law. When officials use government authority to violate constitutional rights, fabrication of evidence, intention, intentional false rulings, deliberate indifference. If the conduct resulted in death, it's punishable by punishable by up to life in prison. 18 U.S.C. Dash 15 12 covers tampering with evidence, influencing testimony, obstructing official proceedings up to 30 years. 18 U.S.C. Dash 15 19 criminalizes destruction of evidence with intent to impede a federal investigation. Even if that investigation doesn't exist yet, 20 years. In 18 U.S.C. Dash 371 is the conspiracy statute. If multiple people coordinated to obstruct justice, they can be charged together. Nobody has been charged. Nobody has been indicted. This is speculation about what could happen. But these are the tools federal prosecutors have when they find corruption and they're not gentle tools. Private investigator Tom Brennan, a former Pennsylvania state police detective who spent 25 years investigating white collar crime in Philadelphia, has been saying publicly what others only whisper. You have people who are actually trying to hide a homicide. He told Fox News, don't you think the federal government will be interested in the corruption? That's his professional opinion based on his investigation, not a sandwich fact, but his willingness to say it out loud tells you something about where this case stands. If the feds find what so many people suspect, the consequences spread in multiple directions criminal indictments are possible. Medical examiners, police detectives, prosecutors, none of them immune from federal charges. If they acted with corrupt intent beyond individual prosecutions, the DOJ civil rights division could launch a pattern or practice investigation into the Philadelphia Police Department or medical examiners office. If they find systematic problems, they can seek consent to crease, forcing institutional reforms. It could happen here. The political fallout would be significant. Governor Josh Shapiro has presidential ambitions, a federal probe, touching his tenure as attorney general, examining how his office handled this case. Why is spokesperson cited evidence that early reports said weren't there. Why it took four years to discover an appearance of conflict creates complications. Joe Grayce who delivered those statements for Shapiro is now spokesperson for Philadelphia mayor, Cheryl Parker, James Schwartzman. It's on the bench as a Pennsylvania judge. None of them have been accused of crimes by federal authorities. But the question being asked are uncomfortable ones and they're being asked by people who can compel answers. This isn't just about Ellen Greenberg anymore. If federal investigators find what the evidence suggests, it exposes a system where political connections allegedly influence death rulings where evidence custody was compromised by connected individuals where multiple agencies affirmed conclusions that defined physical evidence where a victim's family was stonewalled for 15 years, even the Commonwealth court in a ruling against the Greenbergs called the police investigation deeply flawed. A court defending the city's legal position still couldn't pretend the investigation was competent. When even the court's covering for the system admit it's broken, what does that tell you? There are limits to what the feds can do. They reportedly aren't focused on the manner of death itself. The camparing murder charges that state jurisdiction. They probably can't force Pennsylvania to change the death certificate. Some conduct may be beyond the statute of limitations. Political calculations will influence how aggressively this is pursued. But even within those limits, the exposure is real. This isn't about proving Ellen was murdered. It's about proving the people who handled her case broke federal law and how they did it. The wild card is cooperation. Federal investigations turn on who talks first. Lower-level officials get offered immunity in exchange for testimony, but what happened? And who directed it? The first person to cooperate gets the best deal. After 15 years of silence, someone may be calculating whether loyalty is worth a potential obstruction charge. Think about it. That Hulu documentary that came out last September brought this case to millions of viewers. You've probably seen it. Sam Goldberg publicly complained he was screwed over by that film. Kind of pressure changes calculations. Witnesses who were afraid to talk when this was a local story might feel differently now that it's national. Now that federal prosecutors are asking questions, the Greenbergs has spent 15 years being told their daughter stabbed herself at the back of the neck 10 times and kept going until there was a knife, lodged four inches into her chest. They've been told this by police who released the crime scene before processing it by a medical examiner who changed his ruling and later recanted under oath. By an attorney general's office setting evidence that earlier reports said wasn't there by a city that fought them in court for the right to call their daughter's death. That's the choice that she did it herself. Now someone outside Philadelphia is finally asking questions. Someone was subpoena power, grand jury authority and statutes that carry decades in prison. Someone who doesn't answer to the same political networks that have protected this case for 15 years. Federal corruption investigations don't care who the uncle is. They don't care about campaign donations or judicial titles or gubernatorial ambitions. They care about what you did. Whether you knew it was wrong and whether you did it anyway. The Greenbergs have waited 15 years for someone to take their daughter's case seriously. Someone finally might be. And if the Feds find what so many people suspect they'll find this won't be just about Allen anymore. It'll be about whether Philadelphia's institutions can be trusted to tell the truth when the truth is inconvenient and what happens when they can't.
