Meanwhile, Spain’s high-speed rail system has suffered two major accidents in recent years, raising concerns about safety. Despite increased maintenance spending, rail usage has grown significantly due to expanded routes and new operators. However, aging infrastructure—such as the 34-year-old Madrid-Sevilla line—has not kept pace with demand, and maintenance has been underfunded due to economic pressures. Spain’s public debt and fiscal constraints limit spending, while political priorities favor visible, immediate benefits over long-term infrastructure safety. Institutional responsibility lies with public rail entities, which must ensure proper maintenance, inspections, and safety protocols. Despite these efforts, repeated failures suggest systemic weaknesses, and political reluctance to invest in preventative measures increases risk. A deeper review of infrastructure investment, maintenance, and political accountability is essential to prevent future tragedies.

Get started today at StitchFix.com. That's StitchFix.com. I've been doing this for a long time, and I've been investing a lot of time on the problems of the daily life, and the problems of the infrastructure. As for the technical reasons, I didn't have the knowledge of technical knowledge, and I couldn't bring a new subject to it, so I prefer to do the mouthful, and show it to you. However, I can share the reflections to the ones that have come about why Spain is having so many problems, and why the situation may be worse. If there is not a bad start, or a bad change in the direction of the country. Well, the news has already been seen, a Remfe train, and another of them have been shocked in the proximity of Burgantoledo, when both covered the project between Madrid and Sevilla. It seems that it has failed, and that responsibility exists, because now the two accidents are the same cause. Well, it would be to advance into the investigation, and as I said, I'm not an expert in this issue, so I'm not going to enter there. What we know about Ciencia Cierta is that both this tragedy and the death of Amuth arrive after years of interruptions and problems that have deteriorated the trust of many travelers on the train. And that has occurred in a country that historically has been used in its high speed, such as Buke Insignia, in progress. There is a data about the Federal Government of Spain, which should not be reflected. Let's see between 2006 and 2024, of the 743 passengers who died in all the European Union accidents, 139 failed in Spain, almost one of each five, despite our country is very far from concentrating the 20% of the European travel vehicles. In fact, the high speed of Spanish is a calamity, there is a comparison that is particularly concerned. Since Spain inaugurated its first line of ABE in 1992, it had passed 34 years without resisting a single death accident in the lines, specifically built for high speed. However, in just 9 months, in 2006, by the accidents of Amuth and Reurda have left at least 114 deaths. To make us an idea of the magnitude, Spain, only this year, has had more deaths in the lives of high speed, than all the accidents together with the high speed of all the countries in the world in its history. And it is not worth the argument that Spain has a higher speed than other countries, because we can also look at Japan, where the trains go without a chance. They have been working since 1964 without resisting a single death of passengers by the Federal Government. The data from Spain is very hard, because, as you said, that until January 26th, the high speed of Spanish network has more than 3 decades of accidents, and now only 9 months have suffered two terrible disasters. So I think it is important to make a review of what moment things started to become a big hit. At the time of ABE changed the way to travel through Spain. When the line of Madrid and Sevilla inaugurated, in 1992, with this issue of the Expo and such, it changed forever, the country, a symbol of what things had changed in Spain. And, well, almost all the cities in Spain, the deserts of importance, were connected to a few hours, that is, I had an economic value that was super evident, but I also had political strength, 3 seconds. The high speed train represented the modernity, it approached the territories, and allowed, well, a transformation that any person could understand. Everyone understood that if there was a high speed train, that would make us become a developed country. During the following years, the governments of different signs continued to expand. And each new connection, well, it was a matter of conversation for good. So each city, it was an inauguration, it seemed like the map, but there was a problem, and it is that, while we all looked at where ABE arrived, other improvements, much less striking, if they were staying in the second plane. And here begins a fundamental part of the story, and it seems to me that it is something that is super simple. There are two carrils supported on highways and points. Well, the problem is that the step of the trains is to get those elements to strong repetitions, and its state must be continually vigilant, also to keep the cables that are administered in electricity, the systems that organize the circulation, and a lot of things. And at the end, each component will be seen in a way, and needs a different element. Some actions serve to preserve them in good conditions, others consist in substituting it when it corresponds, and all this must be done before the deterioration of these components has caused a bigger problem. And with the added difficulty we talk about 1000 reparting elements for a huge territory. And all this, the infrastructure, I don't talk about the trains anymore. Well, there's an antecedent that explains very well this question. In May of 2017, a time when we discovered it in Braza Tortas, which is in real life, and I wasn't scared of them. But what I found out in research was that there was a piece of a video, which is a mechanism that allows you to pass through one or the other. This is an example of what was going on, that the Spanish speed of speed hadn't been maintained correctly. If we continue with the evolution of the money invested in the Spanish speed of speed, we find three stages, quite different. In the beginning of the century, Spain took the accelerator and began to have huge amounts of money to build new lines, for example, in 2005. They invested about 2,700 million euros in infrastructure of high speed. In 2008, the numbers rose to 4,000 million, and in fact, in 2011, it exceeded 4,200 million. But there was where it came from, because the economic crisis, and it had a lot of short budget, it provoked an explosion of these investments. In fact, in 2016, the investment in high speed had fallen from the 4,000 of the times of the crisis until the 1,100 million euros, practically a fourth part of what it was five years ago. And the most important thing is that the investment was maintained at levels similar for several years, coming to 2021 with only 1,090 million invested in that year. From 2022, a recovery began, which allowed to get the 2,450 million approximately in 2024, although this was still under the maximum of the decade of 2010, but today, something is going on. And this is not taking into account the inflation. We have taken into account the inflation. Well, the numbers have been shorter, but hey, something started to happen. Now, here is a detail that is fundamental, which is that these numbers include both the construction of new lines as the improvement and the renovation of the existing ones. In fact, a good part of the money continues to extend the high speed towards territories such as Extremadura, which is very well connected, like Almería, the Basque country. And that's not true. To a question that seems much more interesting to me, that is that while in Spain, they continue to expand their giants, which in February, they were dedicating their recent resources to preserve and renovate the lines that have already been working. Well, the answer is that no. During.
