I think there were sometimes he just told P.O.R. Burke to just say put something out there by seniority. And I don't know if McCarthy follows that same plan or not. But there was a significant one. I think Keanu Benton, at the back up defensive end and U.Y.A. Black, it knows is pretty significant. It looks like they might be finally giving in and putting Benton worry belongs, right? Other than that, I think it's been pretty much status quo on that thing. When you look at it the way it's currently arranged with Jalen Ramsey listed as the Nickelback. You do get an idea of like we talked about the other day, just how thin they could be at safety if things don't go well. >> Yeah, I mean, hopefully get an update tomorrow at least on Ramsey. There has been a word said about him in what, no, a week, eight days, nine days, see where that's at. But there's the thing about McCarthy. Yeah, he's hasn't done much in the first weeks kind of surprising I don't I Just worry about things dragging out with Ramsey dragging out with Elliott and then we look up and it's like a week out from the regular season and we're talking about Robert Spears Jennings starting its safety like that. Yeah, I think at that point they go find somebody else That's why they got Jenkins. I guess we're on the safe spot But you're probably going to scour the waiver wires after August 20th I think I believe that's the final cut down where they only cut down so that's probably what they would do one way or another I'm right now I'm 50 50 with Ramsey. I mean they're either being cautious and bringing them in back later or there's something really wrong with him I mean we can't get it read on that I can't get a read on that and so I don't know but I could tell you one thing they need him Yeah most definitely they do they're in trouble although I mean on on a little bit of a bright spot. Okay Brandon Eccles has been very very solid Okay, Daly the Dalynevart reports have been good too that I've seen yeah echoes can play the slot nickel right outside inside I mean they can mix a match there so at least he's You know picked up his game a little bit in Patrick Graham. We know it was him So I guess it's a little bit of a plus there so I mean we got about seven practices left that's it up there I was gonna say like you mentioned a minute ago We're only a week away really from the first preseason game so you need to think you're a lot out We're really at the midway point of practice as it's St. Vincent. Yeah, so let's start talking about these rookies because where a few days into padded practices and one guy I keep hearing about who's supposedly doing a great job now that the pads are on because lineman can actually do stuff when pads are on is max a honna chore I haven't heard a single bad thing about a Honna chore in the last couple days since the pads went on yeah, I mean he's been technically sound and which is kind of surprising because that's normally some of the last things that come with offensive line. He's pretty much one Majority of the reps. I know her big beat in one time pretty significantly about was early on during Monday. I mean I think he's He's ahead of schedule because I wouldn't have anticipated him being this good. However, I haven't been able to really focus in on any run blocking here. I mean that can change me. We see all this stuff you're hearing about him is there's one on one stuff. Uh-huh. A lot of team stuff. So I haven't really paid much attention to or if there was many opportunities to see how good of a run blockery He is. So that's the next step. The best up is he had back to backs. I mean for a rookie to put back to back performances together that's that's very impressive. So we'll see. I think it's probably still 60 65% Dylan Cook gets the edge right now. But a honna chore can make that up quickly. If we continue this Our buddy Ray Fittipaldo mentioned he thinks A honna chore right now already looks better than broader Jones. I don't know if that's damning with faint praise, but I mean that's a good sign I think that There's there's good things to take away from what he's doing We're not waiting and waiting and waiting like we have with well for example other linemen in the past like broadrick Jones There's a thing about the a honna chore all these thoughts of him being raw He played more games than college than broadger Jones or started more I mean So we'll see we'll see. I mean it's it's a long haul here And uh maybe it had something maybe it doesn't have anything to do with that on a chore It's all we hear about is from McCarthy is groupings And if he feels more comfortable having Spencer Anderson and Dylan Cook together Rather than a honna chore and Spencer Anderson or maybe Brock Hoffman Maybe that changes his mind right now, but you couldn't ask for a better start for the guy I mean, I think the first week the non-pattern week was a little iffy He didn't look like he looked like he was just Think no taking in everything right not really pay not much. I'm gonna say pay attention Not really figuring out what's going on then but that snap like that Well, I don't think he's quite He's no or near the penalty the cash row like oh shh, you know, he's starting It's not at that point or even I guess Dawson maybe if tomorrow And if tomorrow Friday Saturday or really supposed to be the as McCarthy keeps calling them stress points in camp then Maybe we see more out on the other thought would be you know when you get a big offensive lineman who just wants to push people around and punch people in a mop When you're practicing in shorts and t-shirts and hats Probably kind of hard to get comfortable Yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean You just sound like Jennings Dunker he likes to push people around but he's a mauler right now Why have we not heard more about him is he just That's really is I think I think everybody realizes he's a red shirt ear And he has a ton of talent to move to guard Is significant for him. I think he's a guy that you're I ear marking to jump into that spot next year. Maybe right Guard, but he's definitely a powerful human being And regardless if he knows what he's doing or any technique wise if he gets your hands if you get hit if he gets his hands on you You're getting pushed back That's how powerful of a man he works. He works as but off too So that's two pluses on his side for a guy who's a what third-run pick the late third round third round Which makes it I mean because we know McCarthy's offense I mean not to say that you can just run around and shove dudes on their butts and that's all it takes to be an offensive lineman But knowing that I think he wants this offense to be pretty tough pretty physical Like it's not a grind it out punch in the mouth run game or anything like that but he wants This offense to be a little nasty to you know It's why you have DK Metcalf from Michael Pittman is your wide receivers big strong physical guys It's why you have Darnell Washington It's why you went out and drafted two offensive linemen in your first five first four or five picks like you want to have guys who can push the opposition around. And that's why it's been a little surprising to me anyway that Dunker hasn't immediately taken to it quite the way a Honiture has. - Well, yeah, I mean, like I said, his first fall so early and he does take to it, but I think just, he's a little bit more of a project. That's crazy to say considering a Honiture has only played ball for really two years. I guess he had a couple of years of Juco and Dunker played pretty much at the high level of big time conference at the big time school. But I don't think there's any hurry there, be honest with you. I think if you need him, get him ready for the fill in, if there's an injury, but if not, just hold off, get him ready for next year. Cause you know Anderson's not gonna be here next year or you wouldn't think he would be. McCormick's gonna be free agent after this year. He's a free agent next year. So they'd have to decide whether or not pay him next year, but he would think that they would bring him on cause I think he's pretty solid. - Yeah, no, I think McCormick's solid. Obviously Zach Frazier wouldn't be going anywhere, either at center. So you can, once you get, I harp on this a lot, but whatever, I still think it's the case. So I'll keep mentioning it. Once you figure out your five and you got him cemented in there, that's when offensive lines, I think really start to take a massive step forward. Once you figured out your five and they're all working together, especially if they're good, which I think Dunker is going to be and Ahana Chor is showing signs right now. Once you get it figured out that it's Fyltanum, McCormick, Frazier, Dunker, Ahana Chor, you wanna keep those guys together as long as possible. - Ahana Chor's quick rise here, or at least being ready. You have to wonder how much of that has to do with old campy, the Dean of offensive lineman. Normally you wouldn't see that. I mean, this offensive line struggle for a better half of the first half of the season last couple of years for a guy to be ready that much. I don't know if that's a camping thing, or if that's a Ahana Chor, a little bit of both. - It's a good question, I think, just as it relates to the entire coaching staff, right? - Yeah, I would talk to 'em, but, oh, I forgot we don't talk to coaches. - You're taking this all the way to personally, I think. - Or players. - Or coordinators. - But if this coaching staff in the course of Mike McCarthy installing everything and getting everybody up to speed over the course of the spring and now early training camp, if this coaching staff is maybe doing more teaching than the last couple of additions of the Tomlin staff. I don't know if that's the case or not. I'm just drawing conclusions, I'm adding two and two and trying to get to four, but, when you see guys take a step forward early in training camp, again, to reference Ahana Chor, it makes you wonder, okay, is this coaching staff or the assistance just better than the last set of assistance? - Or does things change in seven days from now? Eight days from now, when the Green Bay Packers come to town, all of a sudden they look like a team that's lost. That can happen, too. - It could, we won't know and I would imagine, I don't know, this is a good question and we can get to it in a second actually. I want to ask you about preseason games, who's going to play and I want to finish our discussion about some of these rookies. The question is, can he transfer that into the game? He's taken majority of not all the one reps. He's not giving it up. But until I see him do it, September 13th, and September 20th, and September 27th, I can't buy it right now, because I've been full twice already. OK, so back to Jeremy Bernard then. He's just not getting an opportunity because Roman Wilson's looking good. But is he making the most of the opportunities that he is getting so that when and if Roman Wilson looks like Roman Wilson again in the regular season, they'll be OK plugging Bernard in there? I think it's to be the tarman right now. I don't think there's anything that he's done that has been terrible, but I don't think there's anything he's done that's stored out. I would like to see him getting more reps with Rogers and that group. Maybe that comes weak too. Maybe that comes whenever. I don't really have to worry. I think he'll be fine. I think they're just making sure what they got with Roman right now. And if there's any sense of him going to that game on Thursday and screwing up, then we'll go to plan B, which might have been playing A altogether. All right, Dale and Everett. Last rookie or last draft pick I want to ask you about the local kid from Navy Eli Hydenreich. His tough situation, just too many people. Too many people for that position. I don't see how he makes the team. Nothing against him. It's just a loaded backfill, the loaded area. Other people he has are very similar to him. You're not getting rid of Weach and Wechin. It's a name of Max Horoman. It's probably better than him right now. But that doesn't matter. He can hone his craft on the, on the practice one. There's nothing wrong with that. You can make 150 grand or whatever it is. Stay out of the Navy for a couple more years and try to get on that active roster. So even if he doesn't, he's not going to make the team. Even if he does. I wasn't asking if dudes were going to make the team or not. I was just kind of curious for like a first impression on each of them. He could be one of those guys that shines in preseason too.
