- I was literally wearing pants from Zazzle yesterday. - Wait, what? Tell me about that. - Hanks face all over them. - No. - I actually forgot that I was wearing them and then I went to the dog park and I saw someone wearing spots all over their pants. Like that, spots all over them. And I said, "Oh, nice pants." And they said, "You really are not one to talk today." - Truly, I have used Zazzle for a long time. If you want to custom gift, Zazzle's the place they've got. - If you want to custom gift of Hanks face on a pair of pants for your friend. - You could put anything on anything it seems. - Do you remember when I made a mug one time? The only reason I remember is I pulled it out this morning to go, "What mug is this?" And it was way in the back, way dusty. And I meant to send it to you ages ago. It says, "Live laugh, lemon," and Comic Sans. There's pictures of me and lemon on like everything. And then it says, "Family is forever." And I was like, "That is, that's a mental health crisis." - A threat. - Yes, sent it to you. - All of us just say, "Use Zazzle." - The opportunities are endless for gifts. Apparently a gift I got M, which by the way, I discovered again this morning. This was probably three years ago that I made this thing. - I'm telling you, Zazzle's the gift that keeps giving. And right now, save 25% of your first order at Zazzle.com. - Man, that's 25% savings on your first order at Zazzle.com. Go make some things amazing. Like I apparently did and M definitely did Zazzle.com. - I've told you guys before that I got Allison. Well, I tried to surprise Allison with this cobblestone fireplace for the house. And I got it from Wayfair. It's very, very cute, very witchy, very spooky. I feel like underneath the right thick ceiling beams, real or fake. It would look incredible. And by the way, those beams are also on Wayfair. But now it has been moved into what will be the spook easy of our house. And I'm not allowed to see what they're doing in their house and in her parents have been working on that a day in and day out. And I know that the fireplace has become like the centerpiece that they're working the whole thing around. So I'm very excited to see how it turns out. Wish me luck. I'm hoping it's gonna look as spooky as promised. I will take pictures when I finally can see what's going on. All I know is that that fireplace became the focal point of the entire room. So if you would like your own focal point, whether that's a fireplace or a couch or a table or whatever your thing is, you can head over to Wayfair and transform your space with pieces that hold up to real life. I wanted to tell you that last night, I went to a midnight Marvel re-release and every Marvel movie is like three hours long. And so what that means is I didn't get home until like three in the morning. But when I realized that I'd be sleeping on my helix mattress and about five seconds as once I parked the car, oh man, I had the time of my life. It's sort of like a siren song, you know? Yes. So now this will be like fall asleep on the couch downstairs and I'm like, what am I thinking? Like this is insanity. That I have a helix mattress upstairs. Why would I fall asleep here? I think the same thing where I'm like, why did I pick this option? And honestly, usually she is a siren to me, the helix mattress, but after last night, I was like, I remember all too well all by myself. I don't need you to loat me to sleep. You don't need it. Yeah, you already know. I will float there and as soon as I land, it's gonna be dream land. Truth will set you free. Yeah. Yeah, if you want to have that experience yourself, you just get yourself a helix mattress. You go to helixleap.com/drink for 20% off-site wide. That's helixleap.com/drink for 20% off-site wide. Helixleap.com/drink. [MUSIC] Remember when we'd start the show when you would immediately start yawning? And I was like, can we not yon within the first 10 seconds? And then I'd have to cut it out. Remember when we actually recorded an episode you fell asleep? Yeah. OK, thank you. First of all, I don't remember it because I fell asleep. That's how you have the only person you ever got to witness it with my bare eyeballs. It was the funniest thing to ever have. [LAUGHTER] I was like, I could leave right now. She wouldn't even know. Do you know what's so funny is I thought about that this morning? Because I also, we talked in an ad before this. I didn't fall asleep till like 3.30 last night. I couldn't sleep. And I was so tired this morning. I was like, should I take a nap before we record? And I was like, no. And then I was like, what if it happens again? Like, I have this whole moment. And then I thought, well, surely that wouldn't happen. Now, here you are. Fucking bringing it up because I'm-- But see, I started it because I started yawning. You see, I'm projecting my own-- I'll do it in 30s, 5 seconds. It's a reality. Yes, we're both going to just fall asleep now. We're elderly. I don't know. I literally-- I thought I went to a Marvel Midnight release last night. And for the non-Marvel-efficient noddles, Christine, that's just me probably. I don't know how much I don't want to assume, but I'm assuming you don't know what's going on here. But the next big-- Remember years ago when we had shows in Texas and everyone was going out for our show to the theater. And they were like, I'm going to go see Infinity War. No, I don't remember that. I remember you experiencing that. Yeah, it was hell. Everyone thought it was so funny. I remember you-- I didn't think it was funny. I remember thinking-- Oh, they thought it was funny. Oh, they thought it was funny. I thought I was going to resent this for the rest of their life. I remember it like, OK, so when we were on tour, I would literally put in-- I'm not kidding, this is like so sick. I would put in Marvel movie release states as I can't be on the road these days. Yeah, I would be like, this day is like a medical procedure that I'm having early on as birthday. And I would be like, this is today Aunt Mancus. And I was like, what? But it would say like, AM release. And I was like, what's AM? And you were like, oh, it's my day off. It's like I have to be home. Because I see it every opening day with that stuff. So for a while, I had the full release calendar on my calendar. I don't know how it happened. But I felt like really tapped in for a minute. I remember our booking agent, Andrew, there was, of course, of any Marvel movie release in the before COVID. The only movie that should have absolutely not been fucking available with no conversation should have been Infinity War or Endgame. Because those were the ensemble movies that all the others had been leading up to. And I was like, I remember him going, I'm so sorry. But you're going to be in Texas. And I was like, no, no, no, you don't understand, Andrew. That's not going to happen. And sure enough, I was in Texas. And after the meanery, you know, we actually said, what? OK, OK. This time right now. Oh, God. I was suckers. We're like, we said, no way, Andrew. And he said, yes. No, that's not what happened. We said, OK, people at our Texas show were like dressed like superheroes. Because they were going to go to the midnight movie like after us. Oh, my God, it was terrible. Anyway, so for the people who are not initiated MCU world, that was the last time that there was a big ensemble movie. The next one is coming out in December. It's been like so many years. Oh, God. OK, wow, it's been like a whole cicada cycle. Yes, it's been a whole Jeepers creepers or something. So-- Wow. But so this is the equivalent of that movie. And so to get people jazz for the movie coming out in December, they brought back those ensemble movies into the theater last night. And so you got to re-experience it. And they added scenes that we never knew before. That like, see? Now the universe brought back free, but even better. It was even better. But so now like all these scenes that we thought we knew, as they were, now they've changed in a certain way where it's like for the storyline coming up. And like, now we've got a new little sneak peak of like, oh, that's why that. Anyway, so long story, I'm so out of sorts today because I assumed I'm 17 and saying out at the theater-- No, for real. --until like, two in the morning. It was like, 2.30 and I went, I always stay up till 2.30. And then I'm like, that was 15 years ago, Christine. Like, what? Something hit me like a Mack truck away home. What was in the air last night? I don't know. But like, Allison and I on the way there. Because we-- I always see it with Allison. And I would say 90% of the movies we also see with our friend, Christine. Oh, they're Chris. Another Christine. Christine number one. And she calls me Christine number one. So it's very confusing. Yeah, that's exactly right. And so all three of us were going-- and Christine had already bought the tickets. And Allison and I were driving, they're going, like, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. Because it's a three hour movie. And we're starting at 11 at night. And that was-- So you're on the way to the movies and you're like this-- Just like-- At that point, I'm already in my pajamas. There's no getting me out of the house. I don't know how you do that. That's remarkable. If there weren't-- Commitment. Never before seen scenes, I wouldn't have done it. But I needed to say-- Oh, yeah, I get that. No. Like, for a special event, I would absolutely. But I would be in the same boat of, like, why am I doing this the entire time. We kept looking at showtime. I got so excited for you, OK? Are we awake? Yeah. Anyway, so that's why I'm tired. And that's, honestly, why I drink this week. I was very excited to go. And I got to say some of the greatest moments in Marvel movies. I got to see them in theaters again. And I got to watch everyone react to it. Like, with your friend, Christine, and with Allison, that's really nice. It was nice. Like, the first time anyone saw it in theaters, like, we all didn't know what was going to happen. But this time, everybody knew. And so we were all kind of like whispering like the best lines. And it was cheering when there was like the fight scenes we knew were coming up. So it was like a nice crowd moment. Oh, I love that, though. That's a good vibe. So it was very lovely. What are you drinking? I'm drinking. Thank you for derailing me, because I couldn't stop. I don't know what was wrong with me. I'm not derailing. I'm just adding another track to the-- I'm just adding one of those push things. That makes you go faster. I'm drinking, I think, half a gallon of iced tea is the biggest combo I've ever seen in my life. I've got my bisexual coffee again. So we're just back to the pumpkin spice-- Well, that's one of my fridge. --from my fridge. Because, by the way, oh, it's sweat-o-weather. I got to tell you what. Oh, you're missing it. I'm sorry. I know every year, right around this week, right before--
before Leonid's birthday, right? I was like, the temperature, and I'm like, (gasps) I forgot, I forgot. - I'm chilled on my spine. - A literal chill, and a literal, and a metaphorical chill down my spine. And it's just like, fall, it's happening. - I'm so jealous. - And I'm so jealous. - I don't want to rub it in, I don't, but I just had to say it one time. - Well, no. - Because it hit yesterday and I went, (gasps) it's happening. - Let me live very sweet through you. You have to tell me what your very first sweater of sweater weather is gonna be. - I already wore it, it was my horse shoe one, and I was like, this is so cute. It was a little horseshoe, and I walked, I went out for a taco, and I walked down this one, what's wrong with you? (laughs) Just one, you went out for a literal bite, that's crazy. - No, I ordered, I mean, it came with three, but I went out for tacos, yeah, and I went and the first thing someone said, this girl goes, I love your horseshoe sweater, and I went, it's a good day, I didn't do that. I said, oh, thanks. But, you know, in my heart, I was like, oh, it's like how in my heart I was like, Andrew, I'm not fucking going to Texas. - I was like, what were we just saying that had a very similar tone to it? Yeah, so it was really nice, and I walked around my neighborhood, and it was like, ooh, breezy, and then it's fun with little man. That's what I'm calling GIO, because he's right there, and I can't, he can't be tolerated today, he's really driving me nuts. - You're so excited. - And he likes to walk when it's cool, because when it's hot, he like won't walk, and he's like a big baby, like me. And so it's nice. - And so he's on sweater weather. - He's so sweater weathered already, and so we walked around and I was like, oh, it's happening. So there's a brief, you know, this nice little window before it gets chilly, but it like, it's good, it feels nice, feels nice. - Gotta be honest, he said little man, and I thought Aunt Man, again, but he's a little man, as far as I can tell from context clues, I think. - Nearly as small as an answer might say. - Unless it's ironic, but I'm not sure. So, you know, I've never seen it. You know, the ironic part is that I think you'd find funny, because in my mind when Aunt Man was created, someone was on trums, and they went, now wait, this would be fucking so funny. Is that he's Aunt Man where he becomes a size of an aunt. But, he can't do it all the time, but every now and then he can reverse the thing that makes him small, and he can become giant, man, giant. - See, that's when you know. Someone with a mental illness, also on trum. - Yeah, someone on trums had exacerbated their own mental illnesses, that mistake. - That's a situation where it was art. - If two of us were in a basement together, and you said that, I'd go, "Dude, we have to write that in." - Look, we just cracked the code of the universe. Like, "Ant is in the word giant." - I mean, that's good. - Remarkable, I mean, it's really something. - That's what sucked me into the MCU, I think. I was like, "Hell, I get it." - Now, that's good. - Oh, that's good. - Well, is there, is the reason you drink because sweat a weather? - It's sweat a weather, and it's because I just like, ooh, I don't know. - Spooky. - I feel, yeah, I feel like the change in the air, and it's nice. It's a nice shift. It's been a long summer. It's felt like a really long F and summer to me. - You're telling me, especially in LA, it was just always 90 degrees. - Yeah, and you're just in the smog, always. - Well, I have compersion for you. - Oh, what's compersion again? I always forget what that word means. - I hope I'm using it right. Polly people tell me otherwise, but apparently it's a good word. So a phrase often used, I think, in Polly circles. - Okay. - And it's when it's like the opposite of jealousy, or it's just happiness for someone when it's happening to them. - Oh, yes. Oh, it's an opposite of like, shodden for it. Where you're like, not happy that someone's - Yeah. - Something like that. - Polly people like her, but you're like, you're like, oh no, it's when you are pleased by someone else's - Like your happy joy. - Enjoy the happy happiness of an experience. - Yeah, you like to, you feel enjoyment of watching someone else enjoy something. - Yes, that's right. - So if I can't have swatted with it, I have compersion for you that you get - Oh, that's nice. - Yeah, I appreciate that. Well, I will try to live it to the fullest, you know? - Stay cozy, that's all I need. That's my, I'll leave it on my little blanket. I got my mobster, Halloween shirt. Man, I'm just really feeling the vibes, you know? - I gotta be honest. Christine, Lena, this is important. - Lena? That's like one of my favorite shirts to you I prefer more. - It is? Thank you. - I wore it so much that it's like falling apart, which I kind of love, you know? It reminds me of my hanky shirt that's purple with the green rating. - You have the same, 'cause these are your favorite colors. Yeah. Well, it's not 'cause Leona has one that says Mama's little, what does it say? - But she, it's size two. - Like size two? - Something like that, but it's like size two teaser. She hasn't been able to wear it four years, but like here I am, still wearing my version and she's just like cooler than me now, you know? - She's like, I literally wouldn't match with you if for a thousand dollars. - She's like, never outfits, matching outfits again, nice try, yeah. - Well, I'm very, I almost said jealous of you. I'm gonna try to switch it. You know, I have capersia for you with your fur weather. - Oh, that's so nice. - Is this like a new thing? What if I had shot in Florida, 'cause you're just so hot over there? No, I don't have that. - I mean, if you did, I'd understand because this is someone's hell, and it's actually mine. - 'Cause I lived there once and I don't really want to bring that karmic justice back to me, you know? - I will tell you, I don't know what's going on over here, but this is the year of mosquitoes, 'cause usually California doesn't have a lot of bugs, but here, the mosquitoes. - That's like the one thing I loved about being there in the summer. - Something happened. - I don't know what it is, but I'm getting eaten alive. I'm used to not wearing pants because I'm like, well, there's not gonna be any bugs in me. - Oh, no. Anyway, wish me luck. - My knees are struggling. - Oh, the knees, you know, the worst, the behind the knee. You know, when you get bug bites, and then you're like, but I was wearing layers, and you're like, they got in there. Oh, it makes me want to just die. - I can't even identify it. - It makes me want to die. It makes me want to die. And then I'm like, why did I get three bug bites under my pants? I'm gonna die. - Oh my God, it was so hard for me. - It was so hard for me. - Oh, it's just like buzzing around in my pants. - God damn it, Christian, but you're right. (laughing) - That's like, remember you said police. - What, remember the last time you were recording, I was like, stop everything, there's a mosquito. And I like, killed it. Remember when I had a pet? - Yeah, I was like, everybody. Everybody say calm. (laughing) - Now that it's officially October everybody, spooky season is upon us. And that means, within the next 30 days, I'm bound to see what's going on in this spooky season that Allison's been creating. - It's happening, isn't it? And I'll tell you, the only thing I know that is in there is the fireplace that I got from Wayfair. - Can I tell you something? - That's the only thing I know. - I bought my own one. - Isn't it incredible? - I was like, I can't believe it never occurred to me. And then you bought one. And the more I thought about it, I was like, wait a minute. It changes your life. - It changes your life. - Without this. And now in my videos, you can see it's like, right next to me, it's so cute. - It's so cute. - It's so cute. - And it's spooky, Ellie's mind. - It's so pretty, and it didn't require any set up. I was like, what am I doing? How have I lived this long? Anyway, yes. So I'm really excited for the tour of the spooky season. - You know as much as I do. I thought at this point that you know what the fireplace looks like. - I might, yeah, I might know more actually now that I have one of my own. - Exactly. So if you want your own spooky little fireplace, the first piece of your own spooky-y or Christine's videos. (laughing) - Or whatever I'm doing with my life, yeah. - Five pieces made for real life and get even more value with Wayfair Rewards trend. Wayfair rewards today to get 5% back on every purchase. - Head to Wayfair.com to shop all things home. That's w-a-y-f-a-i-r.com. - Wayfair every style, every home. - Well, I have a story for you. I don't know if you remember, but this is somewhat of a part two, because-- - I certainly don't. - I thought it-- - And then as you said it, my mind went, you'll remember quickly, I think, though. Because last week, we spoke about the Wolf Creek Inn. - Mm-hmm. - And if you recall, the only reason I ever ended up there was because I was originally gonna do the Pioneer Saloon-- - Ah, yes. - And I was learning about Clark Gable and Carol Lombard and their relationship. And I was like, "Ah, this story, I'm not feeling it yet." And so I went to look up Best Ghost Adventures episodes and it led me to Wolf Creek Inn. Were they talked about Clark Gable and Carol Lombard? - Oh, weird synchronicities. Yeah, that weird crossover. - I was like, "What the fuck?" - So then I decided they have to be a two-fer. - Fantastic. - Last week was Wolf Creek Inn. This time around is the Pioneer Saloon, which was supposed to technically be less. - That feels like what I wanna call my house, you know? - The Pioneer Saloon? - Like that's the vibe of Pioneer Saloon. Like that's the vibe I want. - I certainly, and you know what, I'm just gonna empower you really quickly because just 'cause you're not drinking, doesn't mean something can't be a saloon. I'm having a fucking speakeasy put in my house. - Thank you so much. That's such a reassuring statement. - Coming from someone who doesn't drink. - You can have a saloon, I'll give a shit. - I love that. - Just sounds fun. - Who cares? - Give a shit, get a saloon. - You know what rhymes with saloon? - Balloons. - And that's fun too. - Holy crap, you just cracked something else wide open. - Christine? - Sheifer, I need you to have a balloon saloon in your house. - I mean, I think I already do. It's called Leona Learned About Keeping Upie, and it's my fucking nightmare. I guess anything's a balloon saloon as long as you're in a party city, you know? - We do have so many F and balloons in this house. But yeah, we could do a balloon saloon, and I'm not gonna hate on it, I'm not. - I mean, clowns and cowboys, that's literally you and me. - It's written in the stars. - You have the saloon, I'll make the balloon animals in the corner. - Oh. - It's fate. - Easy. - So Wolf Creek Inn, I already talked about the odd connection between these locations, but this one happens to be in Good Springs, Nevada. Fun fact, it was originally, so Good Springs is one word, but originally it was called Good's Spring, because the founder of the town was Joseph Good. - So he's annoying. - He's awful. - It's like semantically like, no, it's my spring, and everyone's like, can we not be weird about it? - Yeah, please. - Your name is Good, it's just gonna be Good's Spring. - Exactly, please. This is where I'd also like to tell you that because it was in Good Springs, Nevada, were you and I not just in Nevada, was I not driving all around? - Where would I have? - Oh yeah, oh yeah, we were like a few days ago. - Could I?
I would end it up in the pioneer saloon on my way to a wedding, I guess, and I did. So I've been here now. - You did? - Sorry, Gio, sorry, I welcome you. - So Megan, there's pictures. - Shut up. - But I did go, I will show you a long way. - I thought you were gonna say, like this was a really disaster at least sad, like missed opportunity. I did not expect the good news to come from this. - I literally, as I was plotting out the GPS locations, I was like, let me just see. And it was literally like only 15 minutes out of the way. - So that is so crazy, weird. - We stopped and got a soda and a peanut butter pie. - Nice, ooh, ooh. - I'll show you pictures along the way. - Don't worry. - Don't worry, you think I'm stupid? - What do you think this isn't a fuckin' prezi? - You think I can't fuckin' do this. - A Canva presentation. - Where are we? - A visual, multimedia visuals, multimedia presentation. - Thank you for knowing what I'm capable of. Except I can't find it yet, so we're gonna have to figure that out. - Oh my God, Blaze just sent me this picture of Leona made a little card for her friend Wilder, her best friend Wilder, and it says, "To Wilder, from Leona, I love you." - So cute. - Pressure, oh my God. - And Wilder's a great name. - Oh, he's great, he's so funny. He's like, he just like yells at me a lot. And his favorite coach, Pink. - Wilder is like the most Kentucky name I've ever heard. - Well, there is literally a town next to me called Wilder, Kentucky. And I'm like, well, but he doesn't live there, I don't think, but I'm like, do they know about that? - I guarantee he was born a Wilder Kentucky. - I don't think he was, I think maybe he was, I don't know, could be. - Look at that sweet little picture. - I love you. - She just started writing a little bit. - Oh yeah, she learned how to read so now, writing is right around the corner. Oh my gosh. - Oh, that's precious. - Wilder. - They're so cute together, little buddies, little best friends. - Well, they're doing a preschool play together. And Leona said, I get to be Leona and Wilder. She's like, I get to be the purple butterfly. And I was like, yeah, well. - Was she actually cast out or did she just decide her part? - I thought she decided her part and she goes, oh, Ms. Fultz pulled it out of the bag and it was said purple butterfly. And I went, okay, the universe handed me that one, I think. Yeah. - What's wilder? - Oh, I don't fucking know. - Oh my god, that'd be so fun with their butterflies together. - Oh, I'm sure he probably would like, they like would probably beat each other up and be like, this precious. - Anyway, go on, sorry. Anyway, here is me and Allison at the Pioneer Silloon. I want everybody to know I'm aware of my hair, but there's just no turning back and fixing this. So, there's us. - Oh, oh, look at that cool picture. - Yeah, I look like the electrocuted, but we're going to ignore that. - Are you a spice girl shirt? - I like it. - Sure, I am. You know, I had the nerve in this town where it was clearly a bit of a red town. I was like, I'm going to go in the men's bathroom. I obviously pass. And I was wearing a fucking spice girl shirt, and I was like, there's no way on Earth that I ever, everyone was probably so confused. What they don't tell me in the notes about Pioneer Silloon, so let me just tell you some boots on the ground journalism here. - Ah, yes, I got to hear the first person account. - They have a massive giant of a pioneer crouching in front of the Silloon. And I guess he's panning for gold, but I didn't know. - Oh, yeah, don't be crouching though. - No. - You know? - No. - Ah. - And so then-- - Don't be crouching like that. - That man. - So this is all of us having fun. - Whoa, he's threatening you. Allison's not having fun. - Yeah. - Well, she's pretending. - Everyone's having fun. - Oh, dear. He's really having a, he looks like he has caught like-- - Thank you. - What? - Yeah, I'm with you. You're right. Thank you for saying that, because I thought I was alone. - No, you're not. - So, okay. That's the Pioneer Silloon. We know her well now. We know the Pioneer released. So it is one of Nevada's oldest bars. It's been around since 1913, which makes it this year, 113 years old. And this, that means the town, the bar was actually around before the, most the town was created. Like, I think even the state of Nevada hadn't been established yet, I don't think. - Dang. This was built by George Fale, and which is so funny that like your last name's Fale, but you're gonna love it. - Remember the other guy was good. What was it? Good spring. He failed spring. - Oh, that's funny. - Like, these could be fun. And they, instead, they choose to be boring. - Why are they narcissists? They could have really-- - Exactly, and life is so much more fun when you just get creative with it, you know? - Like, it's not hard. Just do it. - Like lean into it. Just fuck it up. - That's so annoying. - Yeah. - He built it when the area became a successful mining town. I cannot escape these fucking mining stories. I'm so sorry, everybody. I'm not trying to do this on purpose. - Take one of those little carts. We'll just stuck in one forever. - It's a loop. The whole track's a loop. This was mainly used by local miners in their off time. One design element of the spa, which I thought was fun, was the bar top itself was built-- Oh, this is the part where it pre-dates the sale of Nevada. The bar top itself pre-dates Nevada because it was built in the 1800s at some point before Nevada had been established. - So that's cool. So people are literally drinking-- So people were drinking at a bar at the counter there. There was a counter before there was a state of Nevada. That's so cool. - Yeah, so it was built in Maine. And then, I guess, like, what I think is so funny is when in the country, just in a different state, I'll say, like, we imported it from Maine. And I'm like, from over there, from part of there. - From Ona Truck. Yeah, it's like, oh, OK. I mean, I guess we brought it from one side of the country to the other and the 18 entrepreneurs. - And if you're in Europe, it's like, well, you're importing from countries that are like an hour away. But, yeah, it is, yeah. - It just feels silly. And I'm sure it's not, but it feels silly. But so it was in Maine, then they brought it over here when they decided to build the bar. So the bar is still the same bar today. - Wow. - Another design element is the installation on the walls and ceilings of stamped tin tiles. - I love that. I love when they do that. - Still there from 1913. - Cool. - And these tiles were actually from a Sears catalog. Fucking love that. - Love that. - And there's thought to be some of the very last stamped tin walls left in the country. - That's so neat. So since we've been there, this is the bar when you walk in. - Oh, I love the ceiling. - Damn ceiling, I love a tin. Look how bar, look how bar. Look how, like, that's cool. That looks like a pie in your saloon. - There's also a bunch of like, I don't understand this picture as soon as you walk in. - Oh, whoa. - There's a little girl with smoking with a chicken. - No, that's sure. And I went, I guess anything's possible here. - Yeah, what's there to understand? It's just kind of what it is. - Like who am I to judge, right? - Who are you, right? - The original furnace is still there. And they have like blocked off. - Oh fuck, that thing is fancy, yeah. And then this was another, I tried to get a picture of the ceilings and the walls to have the tin. - Oh, oh, oh, I love the walls. Oh my gosh. - That's a great picture too. - Thank you. And the floor is original as well. Everything is neat. - Everything's pretty similar to the floor. - The floor is like, it looks old school. That's awesome. - Thank you. - Put it in myself. - Yeah. So one famous event that happened here, 1915. Two years into this place being open. There's a card game, a poker game. Gone wrong. Between two of the minors and their off time. Named Paul and Joe. They've been playing poker for a few days. Paul is winning nonstop for multiple days. And Joe's like, I fucking smell something fishy. I don't know how he figured it out. I don't even know if he just suspected it. And that was enough for him. But Paul wins another game. And Joe is fucking over this. - It's it. - Oh no. - So he pulls out his big ol' gun. And he shoots at Paul six times. - Certainly, certainly kills him. - Too many. - Certainly kills him. - Three of those bullet holes went into the wall of the bar and are still there today. - The tin wall? - Oh my god, yes. In the tin wall. - Holy crap. - And I don't know if you can see in, oh, where's my finger? And this one right here. You can see others like a little white dot in there. - Yes. - That's actually light from the other side of the building. - No way. - So you can still put your eye up to it and see right outside. - No way. - But so there's one too and then the little one there. - So close together. - Yeah. - Boom, boom, boom. - Boom, boom, boom. So you know exactly what direction, Paul was sitting in. - That's crazy. Yeah, that's really weird to see that. - Isn't it weird? I was, I literally, I had heard about the bullet holes before I ever knew I was gonna go there. So when I went there, I went right up to the bartender and I was like, "Where are the holes?" And she went, "Shut up, shut me though." - Oh. - She went there. - Oh, right there. - She went, "I'm calling the police." So then, okay. So that's like the first confirmed death we know of. Apparently there's another death of a minor named like C.J. something or C.P. something. But we don't really hear his story. This one is too good because there's still evidence of it. - Yeah. - Sorry guy, sorry guy. You got to die more interesting, I guess. You can try harder next time. Also, which I didn't pay attention to this 'cause I was so fixated on finding the bullet holes. Apparently also on these walls are like memorabilia from that era, including allegedly. The playing cards used during that game when Paul died. - So like-- - I love how the second he dies. They're like, "All right, put it in behind the glass case. This is gonna be a relic." - It's very similar to the John Mulaney, but where it's like scoop 'em up, put 'em on the wall. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Put it, make it to core. - Yeah, make it to core. - What the fuck? They also have on the wall a framed coroner's report of his death. - What the fuck? They're just like creating a little museum. - There sounds like Zach vegans. This is history that happened here, so put it on the wall. - I guess. - Which like, I mean, if you're thinking about this place being haunted, think of like the energy that that holds, you know? - Yeah, if you're like putting the death coroner's report up there to remind everybody every day, even worse. I did not pay attention to this. I should have and gotten a picture of it, but I did not. Apparently, one of the tables in there
is still the table from 1915 that they played the fucking poker game at and he died on. Now, now I'm going to say, and apparently, and he's still sitting slumped over in his chair. I'm not kidding. You can take a selfie. Oh, wait. Do you remember that minor? We all saw crouching outside. That's actually his fucking dead body and we all took a selfie together. He was just a regular word of thought there. Yeah. That's why he's a little blue fucking corpse like, yeah, that doesn't just get worse and worse. You're just like, it's just nuts. Yeah. To have the cards, do they have like the winning hand, you know, or like the winning hand? I wonder if they ever found out if he was cheating afterward, you know, if they ever checked. Who would know? I mean, also like if you found out he wasn't, you'd feel like garbage. Oops. Whoopsies. But you're right. I do keep listening to things I'm like, and then the waiter wears his clothes, you know. Yeah. Exactly. I'm like, what's next? It's also disturbing. So, okay. That's event number one that leads to like haunted backstory. Sure. What do you, as we've discussed before, is this just this couple, Clark Gablin, Carol Lombard. Oh, they're just flitting around. They won't leave me the fuck alone for several weeks now. So, fuck alone, get away. The fuck away. So 1942, we know it well. These actors who are now in love with each other, it's said that they originally started as an affair, but then when he divorced, they, she, they got married. They used to, I guess, come to this area a lot and they were supposed to meet nearby. Clark had already flown in and he was waiting for Carol Lombard his wife to meet him there. She was up to something on that plane where she was doing something with her mom and she was volunteering or doing something with stock bonds, like selling stock bonds. She was doing something. I don't, it doesn't matter for this story, so I kind of just fluted it past it. But she is on the plane. Her and her mom are going to go meet Clark Gablin. And they're flying right over the nearby Potosi Mountains. And I guess the plane did not lift up in time and didn't, didn't miss it. Let's put it that way. And everybody on board died. There was, I think, 22 people on board. Jesus, I hate those stories. Even worse, like certainly the most gut-wrenching, what do you think, like the person you love should have met you a while ago and she was supposedly on a plane and then you find out there's a plane crash in the area. Jesus. There's no phone or internet. You just have to do the old school fucking wait and see. Jesus. Clark Gablin just hung out at the Pioneer Saloon because the Pioneer Saloon was the closest operating business next to the mountains. It was only like five miles away from the mountains and so it became the base camp for search and rescue. Oh, no. And then like, yeah, you're right. I think about that fucking energy of like waiting to find out if your, if the person you love is dead, if your mother-in-law is dead, yeah, stress, oh my God. And so another interesting about this bar top that is allegedly older than Nevada itself, he sat at that bar for like at least three days, just drinking nonstop to just try to sue this anxiety. I am assuming chain smoking, but smoked enough that while he sat there, the ashes fell onto the bar top long enough that to this day there are very deep divots in the bar when it burned through the bar. Let me show you. You have a pick. This is crazy. This shit is crazy. I literally told the woman saying they're like, I'm going to take a picture. I was like, I need you to move your drink. I'm turning the flash on. Oh, yeah. Move your, move your Shirley Temple. I need a picture. So those two little dots are, like, yeah, those are like car tables, dip had his cigarette ashes. Dude, that's crazy. That is crazy. It's even crazier that that woman was just sitting her drink there. She's like, oh, yeah, that's where Clark Gable, like found out his wife died. Like, that's crazy. Jesus. The ashes of his cigarette, oh my God. I mean, that's very poetic. So he's just waiting and waiting to find out that she's dead. He eventually does find out. The rumored story is that he then took her body, maybe on a fucking plane, to get to another location back home or something. But we never hear about them again. Just we just know the story of him waiting to find out. Well, you didn't want them to fucking bother you anymore. Now you're happy now? Jesus. I finally told the story. And just like the memorabilia of like that poker card death is all over the walls. There's also Clark Gable memorabilia and Carol Lombard memorabilia all over the walls. It's a weird assortment. So he realized each like theme has like a story behind it and it's all very bleak. Yeah. It's all very bleak. So anyway, that's another part of the story. Fun fact. You know, I'm famous for fun facts in her very last movie before she died. Her character literally has a line that says, what could happen on a plane? Shut the fuck up. And the producers obviously cut that line because they were like, I for good reason, we can't put that on. Wow. It hadn't even been released yet. Oh my god. That's crazy. So those are the two main events that people talk about is the two of them. Wow. I'm just going to go into the ghost now. Women see, there's a woman seen walking around the bar looking for somebody, which is probably they think Carol Lombard looking for Clark to tell she made it in a different, but she made it. Oh god, M. That's horrible. Or to say goodbye or something. Like projecting herself there. Oh, oh, M. That's sad. I mean, think of like the last energy you have on earth is your husband just like desperate to know where you are. Like the last thing you think is like, oh, he's going to be so upset and scared and sad. And then it's like, yeah. Oh, geez. Oh, geez. That's so dark. We don't know for sure it's her, but I mean, there's only one famous woman in one famous story at this place. So yeah. Yeah. It's associated with her. People also see a guy maybe in bloody clothes. That was only in one source. So I don't know if that was just like artistic license here, but they see a man randomly hovering around the poker tables and people feel like someone's tapping on their shoulders. They'll feel like things on the table move while they're playing. And I guess, I mean, it's a small bar. Like if there's two rooms, there's, you walk in and then you're in the main bar space. If you turn the corner, there's like a dining room area. But you can, if you're the bartender, you can see every table very easily from where you are. It's not that big. I would say it's actually probably as big as like your living room and kitchen combined. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. You can see everything. Like, yeah, like a big open space. Yeah. Yeah. So my guess is that from the corner of your eye, you think it's just like another patron walking by until you realize he's maybe like older clothes or something, or yeah, and covered in blood, covered in blood, don't you know it? Or like, I imagine you think there's like four people at the table and then you look again, there's only three. Something like that. Right. Right. Right. People see a shadow figure at the bar. When that happens, they also smell cigar smoke. They see smoke moving around them, but nobody is allowed to smoke in this place anymore. They think this figure might be one of the former owners who allegedly died at the bar, which I don't know what that story is, but crazy. People have seen drinks slide across the bar by themselves. Yeah. They've heard a piano playing when there's no piano there anymore. They've heard laughter, footsteps, banging, they've seen chairs moving. One of the most common sounds is that in the woman's bathroom, which again is in this little section that I just told you about. It's very easy to get to. If there's a sound coming from there, everyone would hear it. It's a woman sobbing in the bathroom like uncontrollably to a point where people have thought she was like having a mental breakdown. Oh, no. And people like run in to go help her and nobody's there. Oh, no. Oh, no. Do they know who that is? I think they also think that's Carol Lombard because like she's just dumb to say that she didn't make it in time, but Zach Begins has his own fucking theory, don't worry. Oh. What a surprise. What a shock. She's fucking cold. Also, yeah. I'll tell you, I went to the bathroom there. That's a small fucking bathroom. It's like us all. You go away. Oh. If someone's in there, they can't run away or anything. It's like a one person situation. Yeah. Also, I went to the boys' bathroom because remember, I thought I could pass in my special shirt in my land. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And you did, I'm sure. Man, it smells like P in there. Yeah. That's. It doesn't feel like the cleanest bathroom I've ever been in, but whatever. The girls' bathroom, I don't know. All I heard was that there was a really loud crying ghost in there and I went, I'll take the boys' bathroom. You said I'll wear my spiced girl's shirt over here. Thank you. No one will know. All right, Honey Love has this sports bra on. It's different from other sports bras. Trust me, I've tried all of them. I don't know about, if you know this about me now, but I have a strength trainer now and I go twice a week and it's like not a big deal. Okay. You know, I'm just getting swollen. And so, you know, I do. I do need sports bras and Honey Love now makes one, which is amazing. It feels like a sports bra, but it's actually designed to wear all day, so I can like go to my training session and then go to Costco, do whatever I got to do. And it doesn't do, you don't have to do all the crazy wrestling to get into it, please no. It's got wireless support using cloud fuse bonding, please. Oh, yeah. Say it ain't so. Hell yeah. No, it's extremely, hell yeah, brother. It's extremely comfortable and they don't give you that, like you and a boob, you know, that some sports bras do. It's also important. So yeah, love it. Staff have also felt temperature drops and by temperature drops, I mean, like gusts of wind, they have seen very heavy doors slam themselves open and close and I, the doors are not like, um, people also swear that they've seen a guy in a wrinkled beaten up cowboy hat. So they assume that he is from an older time period.
people have seen the phone ring when it's unplugged yikes they have seen smoke wrap around them as if trying to like constrict femur hug them you you don't do that and people have heard especially staff when they're closing they'll hear heavy heavy heavy boot steps in a way where like they'll come out multiple times to make sure someone isn't still in the bar. Yeah I talked to a bartender there and I was like I'm really into the ghost thing what do you got for me. And I mean she really didn't hold back and I don't think they hold back at all at this place. She was straight up like this place is so fucking haunted and not not in a way where we pretend it's not haunted everybody here knows it's haunted and when you start working here they tell you immediately it's haunted if you can't. It's part of it. Wow. She said that they literally they have security cameras running all the time and if anything creepy or spooky ever happens they just without any other words they just text the manager time codes to have him check the ghosts. Shut the fuck up that's so cool. That's so cool. She was like he just knows if I just sent him a time code he knows it's about ghosts. That's so cool. One video she showed me she showed me two videos on her own personal phone. One was of their the door right next to the bullet holes. Okay yeah heavy. It literally just flies open by itself and then pauses as if someone's holding it and walking through and then it closes itself and if you pause it at the right moment there is a full fucking face standing right there. Like someone's just walking on her phone. She got it. She showed me on her phone the I guess she sent the time code because she was there by herself and the door flew open by itself and then paused and then closed and she was like what the fuck is that I'm by myself and then time codes sent that to her manager. Oh dude. So she showed me the footage on her phone that he sent her. That's even creepier somehow I don't know that's just yucky. But if you pause it there really is a face right there as if someone just walked right through. I did it. The other video she showed me the second one was the bartenders are like holding drinks like you know when they have like the soda gun. Yeah yeah. Just having the soda gun and then they're like talking where like there's a cup in the last hand of soda gun in this hand and you can't make it up. It's clear someone went bam like slammed the drink and it just flies out of her hand while her hand stays like this. And her arm doesn't move or anything but clearly someone just went bam and like threw it onto the ground from her hand. What the fuck dude. And then she like the bartender you can see the bartender go oh no no just like her hand is still there. The person I talked to again I don't know who you're who you are what your name was you were very helpful to me you had a camo and orange hat on you were very lovely. I wish I knew your name. I'm so sorry. This is like Miss Miss connections. Miss connections. You were wearing an orange. You were wearing an orange camo hat and you were very kind. She also said that the general store right next door is even creepier like like to a point where she is like I won't even go over there by myself when I first started working in this place. She was like there's something over there where I will not be over there by myself. And she said when she first started working there they literally had to hire. They already had I guess people on staff but like on their days off they would have to like pay them extra to come in just to be with her while she closed because she refused to be alone. I don't blame her. I don't blame her at all. I'd be like keep that going for the rest of my time out of here. So okay now we're on to Gose Ventures. Gose Ventures season nine episode one. Immediately Zach is very taken by the card table that is still there. He's taken by the guy. Yeah he's yeah he's special. Yeah. He says it holds a bunch of energy obviously. And then of course they show him obviously. They show him the bullet holes in the wall. Oh God. And this is a quote from him. Okay. There are still open wounds that are like an open portal to the other side. Now pause for the quote. Zach looks in through them. And then and then the quote continues. As you look inside these bullet holes from outside what you see is a murder. What could that possibly mean? As you look through the bullet holes from the outside what you see is a murder. Like it sounds like I'll also be got because it's so silly. It reminds me of like in the office that episode where Andy is like your hand and my hand and put it in our hand and because what Zach says is as you look inside these bullet holes from outside what you see is murder. And yet part of me is like yeah that's probably true. I don't know what it means but it feels right. I do do what he means but he could have said it in 19 different ways. Like don't really have any. As you look inside the bullet holes from the outside of the building. Like when he should just said when you look through the bullet hole from outside the house. Well he should have said anything but that but here we are you know. And then he does some weird b-roll where like for people you know b-roll is like just like that extra weird footage like the just random footage that like like background footage and stuff while he's working he has another guy just filming like random spots that he can use in weird edits by another guy it's like Aaron it's for sure Aaron yeah yeah. So okay so this weird b-roll is as he's talking about inside outside murders. It's a close up of these bullet holes and then he clearly I guarantee he didn't even ask permission for this. He clearly from the other side of the building so when he's looking inside from outside he took like a syringe of fake blood and jelly or something and just started pumping it out of so the holes would drip blood from the camera perspective. Wait wait wait. What? So he made the bullet holes bleed everywhere. So he said remember that cool thing I said about when you see murder through from the outside into the inside. Yeah this is gonna really get the point across gives it some jello. And the camera held on it for like way too long like it was like the point was made what it's called is what it's called is lunacy it's sheer lunacy and it should stop. He literally like I know he had some poor PA just like putting a bunch of sludge in the walls of the this fucking building. This historic building literally it's honest it's on a register of historic places. And the like he was just there's no way they clean that up or worried about if any of it got inside. Not a tin wall an antique tin wall they just dumped it. 113 year old wall and he went let's just have jelly and blood pouring out of the inside. No one will understand the depths of what I've just said about the murder from the outside and the inside. How else will they know? Oh my god I just watched it and I went I know that right out of you you're just pushing a button and so gross. So dumb. So okay the owner starts talking about the woman who cries in the bathroom who we all think is Carol Lombard. Right. He says I especially believe this is Carol Lombard because three women came in on an investigation and they knew that her stage name was Carol Lombard but she actually had a different name which was Jane Alice Peters and when they started talking to her they actually ended up getting evidence when they used her real name as if like finally this woman felt seen. She was like oh yeah I responded that. Oh. And Zack's response is well what if it's just a prostitute. In fact he goes on. Here's the full Zachary. Here's the full incredibly random with the fuck down Zach. Jesus I can't. Oh my god that I thought he can't shock me anymore. He's really nuts. Go on. I mean like let's remember that like the saddest story ever is that like like her husband was looking for her. Now she's looking for her husband for eternity and they just miss each other. Now she's like maybe just sobbing in the bathroom every night. It's like here I have an idea. And he said actually she's a whore. That's what he just basically said. Here's what I've got to say and give me my jealous shot. I mean really. So here's the full completely random no evidence backed theory from Zach Baggins in a full cool for you. Full random no evidence backed theory. Okay. Like he just this can I know where no one as far as I know straight off the dome as far as I know nobody said. Zack give us your take. But he said this. Maybe one of the miners had sex with one of the prostitutes in the women's room. Maybe the miner was being forceful or didn't have money then strangled her killed her in here with a knife and then carried her out of the bathroom and carried her somewhere in the desert. Is he okay. He said it with a bravada I've never seen needs to have the communication. Oh. I'm like is you is you are you is what is where are you coming? It's fascinating. Nobody said anything about anyone being stabbed in here. Nobody said anything about a knife. Nobody said people get carried into the desert. No, maybe he's practicing some sort of like creative exercise. You know, like it just feels like he maybe was taught this at a writing retreat. It just feels like totally top of the dome rando. I feel like the day before he was in an improv class. He was like I'm going to carry that into today for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's like I get it. So then completely separate from the walk through they do in this house. They decide they're going to go to the crash site of the plane in the mountains. Oh geez. Okay. Actually really fucking weird and I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't see the show. When they got closer and closer to that crash site, the pieces of the airplane are still fucking there. Oh no. I was worried you were going to say that. The engine is just resting there. Derbing dude. And he knows that took a million selfies with it. For sure. I bet he took a piece and put it in his fucking museum. I'm sure he put it in his museum. You're totally right. Because he's got that whole celebrity room, right? No, he probably took the entire fucking engine with him. Like that's a shitty does. Yeah. Or maybe he brought it and then said, Oh my God. Here it is. Oh my God.
And this giant engine that just fell off, yeah. And then I just send it back to like the proper rental place. So okay, so they go to this mountain site. And the only eerie thing is that the airplane allegedly is all there. They then go to a mine shaft for a while. People say that they hear things in the mine shaft. The crew is later told while they're back in the bar, oh by the way, did you know that this bar is actually sitting on top of a mine shaft? And then the owner just straight up picks up part of the floor. To show them? I did not know this when I was there because no, picks up part of the floor. Like just lifted the floor board and there was like a trap door, at least into a full blown mine shaft. This is our future. What was the thing called that I was going to do? A saloon, a balloon saloon? The balloon saloon. I have the trap door already. You know what's funny is if you had the balloon saloon under the trap door and then every time you look through the trap door, the balloons would go flying up. Oh, that would be so funny until it was not funny at all. And it was a pain in the ass, but yes, it would be very funny. Until you had to round up the balloons all over again just to get them back in the saloon. Put them back down there, yeah. So basically this entire investigation, half of them are in the saloon again because it's very small. I think they were like, what do we do with the other two of them? It's like three rooms. So two of them are in the saloon. Two of them decide they're going to go and investigate the mine shafts, which is like so how fucking dangerous, like so creepy and so dangerous. Are they allowed down there? I don't think so. There are a lot of caution signs as they walk right past them. I mean, yeah. They're also going down ladders that are like, haven't been climbed on in a hundred years. I'm like, that's just a plank of dry plywood at this point, please get off the side. That's going to end badly. Yeah. So okay. So they split up while they're all split up, Zach, of course, decides he's going to stay in the saloon. He doesn't remember. He has asthma, of course. Yeah. Oh, right. Because he, well, he got it psychically, I think. Right. Right. Right. Yeah. I'm making fun of him way too much. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. People get really mad sometimes. I'm just awesome. I'm also not making fun of him for his asthma, by the way. I'm making fun of him for his asthma, by the way. I'm making fun of him for his asthma. 365 day returns now available in Canada and the UK too and when Quince asks where you heard about them Let them know that it was and that's what we drink and it's the best way to support our show. So let them know All right, I have a Real wild one for you today. It's a long one. It's already a two-parter I don't think it'll be a three-parter, but like we'll see what happens Okay, it's what I'm gonna say you take your time. I I'm sat. I got no other plans. So whatever you need to do Right, you let me know. Let me get my socks off so my feet can air, you know what I'm saying? Oh, I didn't need to know what I mean let the toes breathe right in between all right That's actually we really thanks feel the breeze between them now. That's nice. Yeah, that's okay. I don't listen. Okay, so This is part one of the Murdock murders. Don't know it Okay, it is As it it sort of Harkens back to that meme. I was just talking about where it's just like every time something happens You're like I could not think it could I did not think it could get worse and it gets worse, but not funny in any way because you know crime of course But wow what a train wreck and it is drama Rich people drama. So let's get into it. Well, you should have led with that Christie I sure should have. Um, I'm surprised this was not on your feet because it Yeah, yeah, okay, here we go. We begin in early 2019 With 19 year old Mallory. So there are a few M names and their friends and so it's going to be a little confusing Mallory Beach She lives in Hampton County, South Carolina a southern county on the Georgia border She lives with her mom works at a clothing store called retail therapy Her lifelong childhood best friend. So she's 19 by the way. Her lifelong childhood best friend Miley Altman Also worked there at the store with her as did their mutual best friend Morgan. So it's Miley Mallory Morgan Three like 19 year old best friends living in living in South Carolina working at the same store. Oh my god You know, they're the girls with that store. They are they are and everybody is like oh, they know them as like the three BF like they're the Of course, and you know, they're just like tight. Um, so everyone knew them Mallory was particularly outgoing and friendly. She was like a total social butterfly. Her friends called her a fireball Um, she was like the friend who was repainting her her bathroom and bedroom every single year with a new color and like matched her whole aesthetic Yeah, like totally changing her vibes and um, she loved to watch like house renovation shows and wanted to become like an interior designer And she loved fashion, which is why she worked at this clothing store with her two best friends Um, Mallory Morgan and Miley also spent a lot of their time outside of work together as well Mallory was dating one of her other childhood best friends a boy named Anthony Cook They grew up in the same friend group and um It became obvious over the years that there was like something between them and over time even though Anthony was really intimidated by Mallory when they were younger They finally got together and everyone was like oh, they're perfect together and they were like tight So Mallory and Anthony were like childhood sweet like sweethearts all the way through high school and like you know now into their into their young adult years And meanwhile Miley the other friend was dating Anthony's cousin Connor, okay So the third friend in the group Morgan She also had a boyfriend and he was called Paul Murdock, okay Paul and Anthony were close and had also known each other growing up So it's like kind of a good little group. They've got three young women who are best friends dating three young men who are very close or were best friends Um, and even most of their parents were kind of tight with each other Morgan's family though and they're she's the one dating Paul Murdock Morgan's family were treated a little bit like outsiders because they weren't quite from the same as like An affluent community like the folks the Murdock's and the other folks in the neighborhood They had like moved from somewhere else into the wealthy neighborhood And a lot of people who lived there had known each other for generations like this family It's like the south right the families had like grown up in these giant homes like for like old money generations old money very old money And so they moved into town and their daughters started dating basically like The kid of one of the wealthiest most influential families in town right so it's like out of a fucking Disney romcom, but but make it terrible. I have I have a friend who she was in the it family of her town And there was like I don't know if they were rivals, but there were two very popular well-known powerful families in that town She was in one of them and then she married the son of the other and their branch. How does like the chosen one? It's very Very weird. I did not grow up in a world like that, but yeah, it's like it's like succession You know, I'm like what is this what it's really like or they just pulling my leg like is this real or is this like It's very hot. It's very odd. Yeah, but I mean, but I imagine if you live in that town It's like that's I mean good for you good. You're just like in that I guess that's your lifestyle and so they move in and they're like kind of outsiders right but They do like Paul and they think like Mallory seems really happy. So they're like okay, whatever even though we're not close with his parents Whatever it's fine And so that was kind of the only like a little bit of a rub in the situation But otherwise like it seemed like a really good group and nobody seemed to really like have many problems with the group as a whole They were pretty popular and easygoing Morgan's mom for just for context was a nurse at a prison and her dad bill was a landscape designer So they were very much just like middle class whatever and then Murdoch's I'll tell you about them in a moment Because they're just living this normal life in South Carolina doing well for themselves But now Paul their daughter's boyfriend Paul Murdoch he comes from this local prestige that I'm about to tell you about So in 1920 Paul's great great grandfather. This is most South Carolina bullshit. Yeah, I did here by the way Paul's a great great grandfather Randolph Murdoch senior was elected the solicitor of the 14th circuit in South Carolina This is 1920 Now I'm not even gonna get into it. Sertia did a lovely job of like Going through the court circuits and I was like I'm not we're not no big show enough the story Yeah, but I know I would I would try but I know only like some of you smarties would get it and not not I not I So we're gonna get into a little bit Solicitor is an unfamiliar legal title in most of the US. It's not the same as What you would say a solicitor is in the UK, which is a type of lawyer in South Carolina specifically solicitors are elected officials So you're like voted in so it's even more it's not like you just get a job And you're like it's basically like the DA got it for South Carolina like you're elected into this position You have a lot of sway kind of a lot of connection And so that's his great great grandfather every Generation below same deal. Wow Right. It's like it feels like our version of like like the monarchy or like like royalty Yeah, it's like it is like a succession situation where it's like Jesus like And um, yeah, it gets real fucking dark um so These solicitors now Alex that's Paul's father He is the fourth generation of men and his family to work in the judicial system of South Carolina For generations they were the face of the law in like a huge part of South Carolina Michael DeWitt of the Hampton County Guardian said for over a century the Murdoch's were law and order here in the 14th circuit at times They were above the law Wow, and this is over a hundred years now that we're talking this like span, right? So there was a stark class divide between Paul and Morgan's families that the adults like did not bridge Morgan's parents said they worked and sort of kept to themselves So they didn't really even aware or they weren't even really aware of how much sway and power the Murdoch's held They just thought like oh, I don't know where daughter seems happy. Yeah, or maybe they like did they were they from the area? Like did they grow up in this? Yeah, okay, so they're probably like I didn't know what they're like What the fuck yet? Exactly. That's exactly right They were just happy for Morgan. They thought highly of Paul and we're like oh, they seem happy He would bring Morgan gifts for her birthday valentine's day like always bringing stuff over any other occasion He could think of when they were still in high school He was like the kind of boyfriend who would make like a huge banner and a big show Like a big to-do to ask her to prom, you know, and she just really like felt I don't know Special The Murdoch's would take Morgan with them to like the Kentucky Derby and like you know, they're super richy rich So they're going to like the big events And on deep sea fishing trips like these really wild trips. So they're like okay, you know, go ahead Diana Bill thought Paul was thoughtful and kind and they were like happy that their daughter found someone who appreciated her But meanwhile Morgan found herself sort of like striving to fill this role of like The girlfriend in this wealthy family And she wanted to live up to these expectations and what Morgan's parents didn't know is that Paul was actually not kind to their daughter He did the kind of like surface level love bombing stuff, you know of like Oh bringing you presents and like putting big signs, but then what's also like if you have the money You're able to do those grandiose things easy easy right and when she Sorry, was she following for it or did she know it was not a screen? No, she loved him deeply She was like really in the in the relationship in the family and like Over time it became really obvious that whenever he drank and
when he drank a lot, Paul, he would be so uninhibited that his friends actually gave him a different alter ego name and they called him Timmy because he went so off the rails and behaved completely different person. They would say, "Oh, Timmy's here" when he drank too much, which was often. - And what year was this again? 2019. - I feel like, I don't know. I feel like that was kind of like a thing for a while. Like when you were drunk, you like switched out your name to have a drunk persona as like a funny thing when you're in college, but this feels so bare. - Yeah, it was a very like young adult thing of like, "Oh, guess he's out to play Britney's here "to like put the dudes at the bar." Whatever, yeah, it's like that vibe, but his persona was not like a fine, it was like a very belligerent like. - Oh, okay, I got it. - He would total laughing when Timmy's here. - I mean, maybe, but like, I don't find it funny, but maybe they did, I don't know. But he would develop this like uninhibited personality. Anthony would like call him that at some point because he was so out of character, but he was still Paul, right? And most importantly, he was still a Murdoch. So just as an example here, one night, this is just an example. One night after leaving a party, Paul and Morgan got into a fight because Paul wanted to drive, but he had been drinking. He was very drunk and she said, "You can't drive." And he said, "Watch me." So he became aggressive toward her, so she let him drive. And wouldn't you know it? Paul crashed the car. They wound up in a ditch on the side of the truck, the truck on its side. Morgan called 911 and Paul freaked out, took her phone through it and called his grandfather, Randolph, who showed up with his parents, Alex and Maggie Murdoch. They arrived, it's like 2am, by the way, at this point, 2.30 in the morning. They arrived. They don't stop to check with Morgan and Paul who were sideways in the fucking car to see if they're okay. They go to the back of the car to get all the weapons out that Paul has stashed in the back of the car, and a pile of empty beer cans that he's tossed back there. They clear all that out. Then they asked Morgan if she's called 911. She says, "Yes," and they said, they scold her for risking Paul's reputation and getting him into trouble. Oh, so they're like, "Oh, well, we were hoping you'd say no to that." Correct, that's crazy. Okay. They were pissed. Morgan was shocked because she was like, "We almost died," but they were covering up the drinking and driving, and this just became like a norm for her. And she's stuck in this now, and she feels like she's kind of in this loop. He has these fucking firearms in the back, and empty beer cans, and he just calls his grandpa, and everyone comes in and clears it out. And it just seems to be the status quo, very privileged, very privileged. He just kind of did whatever he wanted, right? So he spent a lot of his time on the families, 1,000 plus acre property where he could hunt, fish, drink, like he and party. Like he had full access. It's like a nightmare to think about now as an adult, but like a teenager's dream of like a thousand acres to just like hurry and play and hunt and smoke and drink and do whatever the fuck you are on. They called it a massive playground for Paul. Like he just drove his like fucking vehicles around and like got wasted, yeah. We had a, well, I didn't, but I know a group of people, I never got in fight with their parties, but I knew a group of people where it was like that, where you just heard the crazy fucking stories, and it's like, is it Lord of the Flies over there? Like how do you, it was like a front house before you even got to college. It was just like how do you have access to all this? - I was so scared of that when I was young. I was like completely waked out by that kind of thing. Like I just would be like, yeah, yeah. I like encountered some of those sort of like places or people or events, and I remember just being like, this has like bad energy, bad fucking energy. Like it's like there's something so bad toxic here. - I remember even at 17 when I was like not doing the most savory things, but like I remember thinking like where are your parents? - Like that's it, that's it. It's like there's something where you're like, oh, even I know this is fucked up, you know? Like even I know something's gonna, and by the way, there's like clearly a very instinctual thing happening. I'm like, this is a very, this is a fucking downward spiral. This guy's not just gonna fucking get better if his parents are just like cleaning up after him and letting him drive drunk and almost kill his girlfriend. You know, it's like, they have to have a line somewhere. Damn, like just maddening. It's maddening, there's no line. - I feel like there's not a single line. - I'm aware of the privilege I grew up in, and I feel like there were a few people I went to school with where it seemed I was not friends with them, but my guess even as an adult was that the parents thought like, well, if I'm financially successful enough, I've done it. Like I've done what I need to do as a parent, that is success. But like, it doesn't, - I've offered when I need to offer sort of, like, it's like, well, I can provide you anything you need, and it doesn't even occur to them to like, you are not tending to anything emotional to helping fucking grow. - Like the neglect is still major. Yeah, it's like neglect in every form, but yeah, exactly. - So it feels like that's kind of the situation here, where it's like, you could have everything you want, and therefore I have succeeded as a parent that I've provided, and it's like. - Oh, completely. - Yeah. - Yeah, just like stay out of my way. - Yeah. - And like, make sure we don't ruin our reputation, and we're good, you know, it's like, yeah, it's really, I gotta say, it's something. And if you watch, there's a, there are several documentaries, but if you watch, there's one particular one on Netflix that is three parts. I re-watched it yesterday, and it just is shocking. Like it's like every episode, you're like, what else could there be to talk about? What, you're like, wait, I mean, I'm telling you. - Are you gonna give a shout out at the end of it? - Oh, it's just called the Murdoch Trials Show. - Oh, okay, I don't know. Just like, or Murdoch, that sounds good. - M-U-R-D-A-U-G-H. - Thank you. - I know, it's got it. - Cool. - Funky, but it's like, and that one's cool because there's so much footage, because they have, I mean, it was 2019, 2020, 2021, those years, and so it was like cell phone era. So we have like so much footage, and actual, you can hear people talking, you can like see everything going on. It's like a very immersive thing, which is disturbing, but also good. Okay, so that 1,000 acre property, they called it Morgan, called it Paul's Playground. Like Yikes, it feels like a serial killer thing. The property was stocked with hunting, fishing supplies, more than anybody could ever possibly need. It had kennels with hunting dogs. It had ponds. It had an airplane with a hanger and a private landing strip. Like these are like wealthy people. There and everywhere else he went, Paul just did whatever the fuck he wanted. Okay, and he was completely unchallenged in all of his behavior. Although they all hung out together and Anthony and Paul were best friends, Mallory was not a fan of Paul. And this is Anthony's girlfriend Mallory. And she's like, he's trouble. Miley, their other third friend, fucking hated Paul. Because they see how he treats their best friend, Morgan, and they're like, what the fuck? Like she's awesome and you're a shithead. He would also break up with her for days at a time, then take her back and do the fucking polling or stringing her along. I mean, just tail as old as time. Emotional whiplash. She would come to work crying and like not having slept and they were like, this guy is not worth it. Like a normal relationship shouldn't make you feel bad and cry and like, you know, just they really, and they both were really happy in their relationships. And so they really struggled to see her go through this. They tried to build her up as much as they could like to get her to leave Paul. And she considered it a few times, but it's like this cycle of abuse. And then you would, you know, come back and say, I'll change, I'll never drink again. Yeah, yeah. And they would just start all over again. And again, with the money and the control and the coercion, it's just like, yeah, it's bad. Through it all, Miley and Mallory supported her, stayed by her side. And now I want to get into a little bit of the way the Murdoch's normalized binge drinking and how this kind of plays into it. Oh boy, because, yeah, it's bad because Morgan's parents didn't really drink and so she wasn't like coming from that kind of an environment. But the Murdoch's drink like heavily all day all the time for any reason. So she recalled that Alex Murdoch, the dad, let Paul, like teenage Paul and his friends, into the law firm through a back entrance where they could drink liquor with each other and like drink liquor with children of the other law partners who were all like 14, 15, 16, and just like take shots. I mean, it really is like, it's just they're, it's prepping them for fratts. Like it should be the same shit. Yeah, and then to like build the same environment as they get older. And I, I, I mean, I, I don't know why I'm trying to defend anybody. I'm trying to say, like, I understand I grew up in a house where like my mom thought, like, if I let you sip, sip some wine when you're like 17, 16 or 17, then like maybe because you're doing it under my roof, I know where you are and maybe that'll like, like I know, luckily I never drank. So, but the offer was on the table, but to just go out and get blasted is crazy. Well, to be like here, come to come to my work, kids, and here's a bottle of vodka. Here's a handle of vodka children have fun with, with the other kids. Like are you not thinking of the repercussions? And also, why don't you go hang out on our thousand anchors with guns? Like what are you talking about? Yeah, that too. They did that all the time. It's just crazy. It's just crazy. And so binge drinking just became normal to Morgan. Like she just was like, well, like this is what we do. Especially wherever the Murdoch's were involved. But when Paul binge, like he became completely unstable, he became this Timmy character. Anthony said that Paul really liked attention. Wouldn't you know it? And others agreed Paul would act out erratically, outrageously, to get attention.
when he drank. And Miley, the other friend who fucking hated Paul, she could barely tolerate him. She couldn't stand being around him. She didn't like being around him sober, let alone drunk. And she said when he drank too much, she wasn't just dangerous to himself. He was dangerous to everyone and he was erratic and could be violent, could be like get them in trouble, could get himself hurt. Clearly, like tipping cars over and like has access to weapons. I mean, this is just trouble. And the parents are fully aware. I mean, they're enabling. Yes, they're covering it up when the consequences come. They're completely encouraging it and covering up any consequences. Yes. Oh my God. What do you think's gonna happen? Yeah, a fucking disaster. On February 23rd, 2019, the group was invited to something called an oyster roast. Is this something you know about? No, we were like another trick from the rich that they're going to trick me. I have heard of like crab parties, but I don't know. Like a crab boil or something or a yeah, but no, this is an oyster roast, which I guess was a common social scene in South Carolina. Winters, okay. I would not attend. Oysters are. I love an oyster. Oh, yeah. Okay. Anthony wanted to skip it that night because he didn't feel like being out in the cold, but Mallory, his girlfriend really wanted to go. Anthony said, okay, fine, let's go. Paul and Morgan were not getting along this day. But Paul guilt tripter into going to. So that evening, the six friends that I've mentioned, the three couples traveled by boat on the Buford River. Anthony said he'd done that trip a thousand times. More than that, he said Paul and Connor knew what they were doing and they've done, they've driven this boat. No problem. But Paul started binging immediately. He used his older brother's ID to purchase alcohol, which they kept in a cooler on the boat. And then he used a funnel to shotgun more than five beers like from just the get go. Wow. And during the oyster roast, more than one person told him, like it is way too dark and cold for you to be driving the boat back. Good for that person. Well, yeah, many people told him that. And many people offered him rides. They said he could leave the boat more there for night for the night and get it tomorrow. But he said, no, I'm not going to leave my boat. I don't want someone else to drive me home. And Anthony said, Paul was just too proud to accept a ride and to admit he was too drunk to drive. So Morgan told him, Paul wanted the night to go his way, exactly how he'd planned it because Murdoch's don't hear no and they don't, they don't understand that concept of giving in to Paul. They all six of them got into the boat. And sometime after midnight, there was some sort of disagreement or argument on the boat. Because Connor and Paul wanted to dock in Beaumont to go to a bar, but everyone else wanted to go home. Connor and Paul are getting their way, of course. And Paul parks a boat in Beaufort. Any he and Connor went ashore began to take shots. And remember, they're already wasted. Meanwhile, Miley and Morgan commiserated about being angry at their boyfriends for making them stay out. Anthony and Mallory are like, lovey-dovey and just having a happy time together. And they're like seemingly a healthy couple. And then Paul, they just wait around because Paul has to drive them home on that fucking boat. So they just wait around for them to be done taking shots. Paul gets on the boat and he's fucking smashed. He can hardly stand. Okay, let alone drive a boat. But of course, he's like, I'm driving home. The girls are like Connor and Anthony has to drive this last leg. And he refuses. They briefly discuss calling an Uber, but Paul refuses to leave the boat in town. And if everyone doesn't Uber, Anthony doesn't want to leave some of them on the boat with Paul, so he's like, well, shit, then I'll stay. So they all get back on the boat just after 1 a.m. and immediately things go wrong. Paul is driving the boat erratically. Everyone's freaking out. He let go. Let's go over the wheel. And Connor, like keeps having to grab it to keep the boat going in the right direction. And then Paul gets pissed because someone's touching the steering wheel. Paul steers them in circles, starts like scaring them, you know, doing the likes, exagging the boat and trying to scare everybody, trying to like a sort power and like exactly be like, oh, yeah, you scared. Yeah, 1 a.m. he's doing this. Everything's happening so fast. Connor is trying to step in and like, course, correct. Paul's behavior is escalating. Everyone's yelling. Finally, Miley's shouting, take us home. He's getting more and more agitated that everyone's fighting with him. And finally, Morgan says to Paul, you're acting crazy and Paul fucking freaks. Okay. Oh my god. He walks away from the boat's helm to argue with Morgan and says to his girlfriend, you know what's crazy? Your father not making enough money to support your family. Boo. Yuck. Yuck. What the hell? Are you kidding? Fucking real? Are you out of your fucking gorgher if you're drunk? Are you out of your fucking goddamn friend? What are you talking about? Keep going. I fucking, I don't know. Okay. This can't simply isn't the worst thing that happens in this story. So just keep it moving. It gets so absurdly much more worse that you make, you, you want to pull your own head off. It like it, it is just madding and I can't even get. Okay. So he says to her on this boat, as they're fucking speeding down this river and he's like, oh, the fucking steering wheel. He says, you know what's crazy? And then he slaps her in the face. Oh, oh, absolutely not. It's like, oh, it's like. So Miley who hates Paul as we all do, but sees him hit her friend. And she in that moment later says she realized, this is not the first time he's hit her. And they didn't realize at the time, like, oh, that the physical abuse had escalated to this point. But she remembers in that moment being like, this is not the first time he's hit her. I mean, even if he's drunk for him to think that he can get away with that with a confidence has been built up. Oh, like a full sheer, yeah, yeah. She like freezes Miley watching this happen and going, oh my god. And Paul turns around, goes back to the helm of the boat and pushes the throttle all the way up. Oh my god. The boat lurches forward at full speed. And Miley just before impact sees the Archer's Creek Bridge straight ahead. They drive straight into a pylon and the boat smashes into it. Anthony grabbed Mallory, pulled her against him, heard someone scream and the boat collided with a pylon. And then he was in the water. This was roughly 220 AM, February morning, freezing, not freezing, but cold water. When a person is submerged in cold water, they experience something called cold shock response, CSR, which I did not know about this. I mean, I guess I heard of it, but I didn't know the name of it. I think we all knew of it conceptually from the Titanic. And that was funny. I was just telling someone yesterday I've never seen that full movie. Yeah. At the end, like, as they're about to go down, like Leo DiCaprio is like warning her like, this is what's about to happen. Like, you got to kick with all your might. I literally said, I never saw the ending. I'm sure there wasn't anything I missed. And now I'm like, wait a minute. Whoa. Okay. That's crazy. Okay. So, well, yeah. So that's fascinating because I didn't know that. Yeah. Makes sense. Cold shock response. So it's like the body's natural response to sudden extreme exposure. And it causes you to have a tachycardia increased heart rate, hyperventilation, but also an immediate reflexive gasp of air or water, right? If you're underwater. And so what would what will happen is that you'll be submerged in cold water, which is roughly below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, 16 Celsius. And the body forces this reflexive gasp. And if your head is not above water, you will breathe in water. And that can make you drown like very quickly. And if you're not wearing a life jacket, right? And your body hits and your head's not above water. Yeah. You can inhale water right away, sink and drown immediately. A person who experiences this CSR gasp and and and hails this water can just go down immediately. And it's also called sudden disappearance syndrome because I know I fucking know it's chilling and like, like, which would you prefer? Like that just sounds awful. It's like, oh, we have another name for it. Thank you. Don't worry. You don't have to die that way. You can die this way, whichever you want. Yeah. Do you want another acronym? Is that going to help? Yeah. Seriously. So it's like this like horrifying rapid drowning. Paul Anthony Mallory had all been thrown into the water. There's also a fucking current rushing under the bridge, right? It's not just cold water, but it's a rushing cold water. And now they're injured because they've been hurled out of a boat. So somehow Anthony makes it to shore and he's looking everywhere for Mallory because he was holding her when the boat. He grabbed her his girlfriend like right when the boat hit. He sees Paul make it to shore a fucking course, but Mallory is gone. And he's screaming for her. They're screaming for her. They don't hear her. He dives into the water over and over and over again. Cannot see or do anything. The water's too fast. There's no sign of her. Connor calls 911. Anthony dives in again and again. Paul is fucking laughing. Are you fucking kidding me? I can't stand this man. Yeah. He's he's he's a piece. It's trash. So they're all screaming from Mallory. He's just like not fucking bothered. He's of course calling his grand daddy, you know, to like fix the problem. Anthony's looking for his girlfriend in like desperation. Connor is on the phone with the operator. You can hear this whole, not that maybe not the whole thing, but most of the phone call on the video on the in the documentary. He's trying to give his accurate information as he can. You can hear everyone in the background calling for Mallory. It's very disturbing and talking about their own injuries. So police Please arrive on scene.
and Anthony goes up the bank to meet them on the bridge. 20 officers arrived. Connor, his face was cut. Morgan had, was bleeding. Connor could feel that his bottom teeth had been pushed in front of his top teeth. So he knew his jaw had been damaged or broken in some way. And he could feel that his face was hot, but the adrenaline and everything. Paul had now somehow taken off all his clothes. He was only in his underwear. His behavior was erratic. He refused to cooperate with first responders. He was laughing and smiling like it was funny. Anthony and complete despair over Mallory. Like told him to fuck himself, told him to rot in hell. - Truly. - Then Paul started asking first responders if he could use their phone 'cause he had to make a phone call. And finally, he got someone's phone and called his grandfather and said, Connor was driving the boat and crashed into a bridge. And his Connor at this point go, "Oh, so we are not gonna be saying the same story." - Yeah. Yeah. - Precisely. - Can you imagine if Connor and hearing that? - Yeah, he literally talks about it. He's like, "Uh, I was like, wait a minute." Yeah, he's fucking insane. - And did, like, I mean, not that, not that it matters. But like, do we have any guess that like, did Paul think like, "Oh yeah, he'd help me out "'cause he's my friend." Or did he just think, "Fuck this guy, I don't want to be a sh*t." - Okay, they don't do it. - Literally don't give a sh*t. There's just not a sh*t. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, but good question. 'Cause you'd like to think maybe there's a little nuance there, but not with these people. - You would, like, I don't know. I certainly, I can't imagine Connor's fear of thinking like the most powerful people in town are gonna certainly make it much like it. - Like, he knows. He's like, "Oh, well, I'm been their friend for years. I know what these people are capable of." And now I'm on the bad side, right? It's like, now I'm being used as the fucking scapegoat or whatever. - Crazy. - Yeah, it is. So he's like, yeah, grandpa, like Connor was driving the boat and crashed it. And no, they can't find Mallory. Oops. So soon everyone's parents know what happened except for Mallory's. They do not tell Mallory's family anything. Eventually, Mallory's grandma sees something about it, hears something about it, calls Mallory's mom and is like, "What's going on?" Mallory's mom is like, "I have no clue. I don't know about this." And they don't know where to go. They're like, "Do we go to the hospital?" No, she's not at the hospital. Do we go to the side of the crash? Like, we don't know where to go. It's February. We're confused. Nobody contacted Mallory's parents. Now, Anthony's mom was at the scene because Anthony refused to go to the hospital because Mallory was still missing and he wouldn't leave. And so his mother came there and he had like a hurt shoulder and he was sitting on the banks, just like waiting, waiting. And while searchers deliberated their options, his mom, Beverly, was recorded on a body camera asking an officer whether Mallory's parents had been contacted. She said, "I have their phone number. "Can you call them? "I don't want to be the one to call them. "I'd rather law enforcement call them "to give the information." And the officer responds, "Until we know something for sure, "probably not a good idea to make that call. "We don't want to create a panic. "Have them out here causing issues." And it's like, "Are you fucking so low?" Their daughter is like missing in the river? To then remind me, this family did not grow up in this kind of lifestyle. So they're like, "Fuck this, help my kid." They do not understand the hierarchy. - This is sorry, sorry, sorry, that's Morgan. So this is Matt. So Mallory is the is Anthony's girlfriend who grew up in town and is also in this circle. - Oh, where are the things go here? - Yeah, okay. I think so. I mean, as far as I can tell, but still, it's like, wait. Everybody is under the influence of these people, even if you are from this town or even if you are in these circles, it's like nobody's immune to these people's toxic speech. So soon after Miley Morgan, Paul and Connor were transported to the hospital, Randolph and Alex Murdoch showed up at the hospital. Remember, they're law people too, like the face of the law. And they wouldn't allow police officers to interview Paul, who's blood alcohol was three times the legal limit. And remember, he bought all the alcohol underage, like he's not even of drinking age. Protecting a person from being interviewed by police while incapacitated wasn't necessarily the issue. The issue was that they were like, go interview all the other kids. You know, not Paul. - Oh my god. - Shut up. - Shut up. - Oh my god. - Maddening. So then while Morgan's hand is being sutured, 'cause she got an injury when she fell out of the boat, Randolph literally the grandfather stood outside the door while her hand was being sutured just to stare at her. Like stare her down. - Yeah, just like to intimidate her. - That's right, like don't fucking correct. - Intimidated her. And then Alex showed up and started tapping on the door and said he needed to come in because he was representing Morgan and even, and remember, this is now her boyfriends' dad. So this is like her father-in-law, so to speak. Like, you know, by, not by marriage at this point, but like that's their connection. It's like this her boyfriend's dad. He's trying to get in and she tells the nurse do not let that man anywhere near me. Do not let him anywhere near me. - Good for her. - I know. Alex and Randolph interfered wherever they could. They were just like, in and out. Hospital staff later said they were clearly trying to cause confusion and like mix up facts and manipulate the situation. Alex, the dad called Connor's parents and said your son was driving the boat that crashed and he was the one who crashed it. - Oh my God. - And they said, but don't worry. We'll represent him in court and make sure he gets a really fair shake. - For fucking no, thanks. I don't think so. - Thanks, I know. - I know. So while Connor was being transported from, and remember his jaw's fucked up, so we can even speak, okay? - Oh no. - I know. And that's part of it. - That's probably why Paul took one look at him and went, you can't talk. - Yeah, he's, he's the one. Well, he knows Anthony's gonna be, yeah, exactly. He's like, he's just pinned him on the easiest, pinned it on the easiest one. And also Connor knew how to drive the boat. Paul and Connor were the two who knew how to drive it. So I think that's probably also why. So he's being transported from his room to a cat scan for his jaw and Alex fucking jumps on the chance, right? He jumps over to Connor and he starts whispering in his fucking ear. - Of course. - This guy's getting wheeled into a cat scan, this kid, and this guy starts whispering in his ear. Everything's gonna be all right. You just need to keep your mouth shut and tell them you didn't know who was driving. I mean, are we for fucking real? - And he said, being who they are, I was doing what I was told, anything they get in, they get out of. And ironically, like I said, he couldn't even speak. So he's like, what the fuck? - I mean, I really, I, he was terrified. - I can't imagine. - I can't imagine. - And to know what they're capable of. - Exactly. - He was like, he just felt completely stuck. He was like, I'm terrified. I see what's happening. - It's almost like your best option is to just comply and like, just go with it. - Maybe I go to jail. - I'm telling you to figure out what happens. - Yeah, so Mallory's mom, Renee Beach, arrived at the hospital finally and she saw Randolph and asked if there are any updates on Mallory. He goes, who? This fucking guy. - Oh my God. - She said Mallory Beach, my daughter who is missing from the boating accident. This man, this grandpa, Paul's grandpa says to her. Oh, I'm pretty sure we know how that's gonna end up. - Oh, and that's the first thing she's heard about what happened to her daughter. So she goes, oh, I think my daughter's dead. Like, I just, you know. - I mean, at that moment, what else she's supposed to do? Like, no. - What the fuck? All you said in that sentence was, why I'm not here to help you? Like, what the hell was that? - Oh, you, yeah. - Who? Oh, fuck you. So the Murdoch men were just like, trying to keep Paul's ass covered. And he, of course, had been uncooperative with ambulance staff. He was still belligerently drunk. While Morgan was receiving treatment, two nurses approached her family. Her parents, and remember, I said, like, her parents were like, "Paul's lovely." And he brings her so many presents. Two nurses came to her parents and said, "You need to keep your daughter away from that man." He's violent, he's abusive, he's bad news. And this is kind of the first time they'd been even hearing of this. And one of them, paraphrased by Diane, said, one of the nurses said, I'm not supposed to say this to you, but Paul is a nasty drunk, and you need to get away from him as fast as you can. - Wow. - The second nurse approached Diane and said, "Nurse to nurse and mom to mom, you need to keep your daughter away from him." - Good for her. - So, yeah, so the doubt he's had no idea, like, that there was such abuse going on in their daughter's relationship. Not even Morgan's best friends knew how bad it had gotten. Paul had been spitting on kicking her, choking her. He, the housekeeper who had largely raised Paul, and was basically his mother figure, she once told Morgan that she would just have to quote, "Get used to his temper or leave." - And of course, one of those two options is impossible. You can't just leave. - Sure. - Or come find her. - And then if he do it every once in a while with it, like he is right now. - So it's just accepting the behavior and just encouraging it. Morgan said whenever Paul got into trouble, he'd just call Randolph and then he call Alex, and then they come up with a story, this snapped their fingers. Local reporters, though, are smelling the drama and the fucking messiness of this, right? Days pass, there's no sign of Mallory still, just nightmare. Crews are searching in dive teams helicopter boat. They had to scour a huge expanse of the river. And when Mallory's mother got to the crash scene, she wanted to see where her daughter disappeared, but an officer said they were under strict orders not to allow anyone to approach the scene. Guess who found it?
walked right past the caution tape. Yeah. Yeah. The Murdoch family just walked straight up and like goes past the police and walks over there. And she's like, oh wait, my daughter was killed here. She's the only one who died or was missing and they just walked right on in. Yeah. So at this point, they're actually nervous that they're going to cover the up the whole thing. Like if they even find Morgan, they're worrying at this point like what if they don't even tell anybody and cover it up. At home, Anthony was really fucking going through it. He finally began to accept, he went to the bank every day, but he eventually began to accept like she's not going to be found alive. But he would like hope for a miracle anyway. And he told a friend that if Mallory walked out of the water right then, he would marry her. Oh my god. Made me sad. At home, he slept with his mom in the living room because he was having so many night terrors and nightmares. And he would wake up screaming that he was in the water, like that he had fallen in the water. And he was like holding her right. And then he had like, let her go. I mean, it's just fucking horrid. Connor meanwhile is experiencing a different terror because he's being fucking scapegoated as the driver of the boat. I mean, he's about to get like mafia, like mailbox, bomb in the mailbox because he's like, it's intimidating to shit out of him. So the media coverage is reporting that it's uncertain who was driving because of course the paradox are saying, oh, it's Connor, but then he's like, no, it's Paul. So the media is like, we don't know who is driving. It was either Paul or Connor. Connor refuses to take the blame, but he's like, well, I don't know if they're going to threaten me. Mafia also me, whatever. He even asked his dad, like, do you think they could have me killed? Like, this is like how scary these people? I believe they could. I absolutely do. Alex Murdock called Marty Cook. So Alex is the dad of Paul. He calls Marty Cook, Connor's dad and says, we need to have a talk. Okay. So the dad, Connor's dad, who already knows like his son's being blamed for this and knows his son didn't fucking do it, meets Alex's law firm and Alex says, pick any room you like where we can talk. Shut the fuck up. Shut the fuck up, brother. Please give me a fucking. That's a hell no brother, you know what I'm saying? That's a hell no brother. And he says, why do I pick a room? And he says, that way you know, you're not being set up with a recording device. And he goes, hello. I know I'm being. Now I know me. Fucking recording device. You piece of shit. Also, like your billionaires, like this, the you for sure have recording devices in every room. Don't yeah, 2022 or whatever or 2021 yet. You're just going to walk in with your phone or whatever, you know, like there's what do you mean? Like don't play games with me, sir. Yeah, it's just nuts. And so they were like, oh, well, we got to talk because, you know, we got to see where we stand. Like we can't really mourn this whole situation until we know that it's clear Connor was driving the boat. And Connor's dad is like, Connor was not driving the boat. We're not playing this game. Yeah. So at every turn, they're trying to spin the events to exonerate Paul, set up Connor. Of course, Marty's like, I'm not playing this game. I don't know. Yeah, like they really thought it would work, I guess. Some of the survivor's family members began to fear that like, if Mallory were found that it would be covered up, but a member of a search crew did find Mallory eventually nearly a week after the crash. Of course, nobody wanted to find the ending to be, you know, her death. But at the same time, they were able to at least host a funeral and lay her to breast, you know, and have some closure. The community like really showed up. The line for the funeral was like around the block, just very, very output, very much an outpouring of support. And not that it's helpful, but you know the gossip on the street was like, oh, the control, like bad. Yeah. But I would hope that if it's going to exist, hopefully a majority of them are in like Connor's favor being like, we all know that Paul fucking, but I think that's probably what was being picked up on. Yes, yes, exactly. So Mallory's parents believed that they would one day be reunited with Mallory and death, but her father said he also wanted earthly justice to be done. So a friend con a connected them with Mark Tinsley, who was like, basically the only attorney in the area who could like take on who was like, who like knew what the Murdox, who the Murdox were and were like, I can try this. And he knew what it would mean to challenge them. So he began compiling evidence against Paul and wouldn't you know it. It's fucking everywhere. Okay. He has all sorts of questions. He has all sorts of evidence. The evidence is mounting that the Murdox are manipulating the investigation that it absolutely without question was Paul driving the boat, not Connor. So two months after the crash and Mallory's death, three felony charges were brought against Paul, one count of DUI causing death, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury. And finally, Connor was like, well, at least I'm off the hook a little bit, right? But that was not the end of the Murdox interfering with this entire situation. At Paul's first court appearance, the energy was extremely strange and unsettling. A reporter said Alex was like smiling and like chiming it up with everybody and their reporters and like, was greeting the media and being like, how do you do? Like so, like yeah. So it's like when Ted Bundy would come in and like be charming with every charm. Yeah, it's sick media outlets. We're waiting for a mug shot to use in their coverage. But instead they got this like iPhone picture of Paul like in his dress shirt, like they didn't make him take a normal mug shot like every other fucking person. He literally got like a blurry iPhone picture and they were like, he didn't even have to change out of his clothes, you know, just bizarre. His bail was set to $50,000 even though he's like the wealthiest person in the town. And he was not handcuffed and led from the room. So he was basically like exempt from any sort of procedure that was usually going on. He didn't have to get his fingerprints taken in the other building. They brought the machine to him to take his fingerprints. Literally like, is he the fucking president? Maybe prints on a little baby pillow. Oh, sorry, that's my baby prince on his little baby pillow. Speaking of he said, are you talking to? He said, don't say that name in this house. Okay. Sorry, it's mail time. So for two years, Paul is like awaiting his trial, but instead of being in jail, he's at home not having a problem with anything, just partying with his family. I was going to say like literally like $50,000, but you only have to pay five grand of that, which is like a jump change to them. And then he immediately went to his acres to go shooting and drinking a thousand acres with wet unlicensed weapons, right? Totally. Yeah. So Morgan sees, she's online. She's basically been shaken out of this like horrible nightmare. Her friend, one of her best best friends is killed by her boyfriend. And she sort of shaken out of this like almost, I don't know what to call it, but she prints it clear. Yeah, like she's, yeah, exactly. She sees it clearly. And she sees as people are partying with him. Like, he just fills his circle with new people and is just getting drunk doing the same shit. And so she's just getting like furious. Like, this is insane. So she starts cutting people out of her life. She's like, I don't want to be around. I don't want to be connected to people that are hanging out with this guy. Like does she break up with him? Oh, yeah. They were, they were completely disconnected. Okay. Yeah. She, she resolved to leave Paul permanently after, after after losing, after losing Mallory. She was basically like that shocked her. Her, her parents had like that shocked her out of this. But then like through like town gossip, she'd find out like these people hang out with him and these people and social media, social media and stuff like he would be posting with like their friend, their same friends. And she's like, I'm not part of this group anymore. Like God, you know, this is insane that they're still like, yeah, exactly. She had to watch people and she knew like party with him as if nothing had ever happened. And it was just haunting and infuriating. So Paul's former friend said Paul had grown up pretty alienated from his family. His older brother Buster had followed the family legacy and gone to law school. But Paul didn't want to go to law school. He didn't feel love and acceptance at home. So he acted out and saw it elsewhere. The housekeeper, Ms. Gloria is the one that loved him like a son and was the one who like said, oh, if you can't handle his behavior, you need to leave, you know, to to Morgan. And they were very close. Anthony said she took care of Paul like a family member never did. Ms. Gloria would have walked off the end of the moon for Paul Murdoch. And he even, he kept no photos in his wallet, except of one of Ms. Gloria. But she had actually died a year earlier, tragically in a crash. Wow. In a crash, you say? After suffering a fall at the Murdoch family home. Now that's intriguing. Anthony thought jail might be right for Paul because he needed to learn a fucking lesson. But he also believed his former friend was like lonely and afraid and was like going to just keep drinking and acting out because was he going to face his demons now? No. So on June 7, 2021, we're talking more than two years after the boat crash while Paul is still a waiting trial. Dispatch receives a 911 call in the middle of the night. It's Alex Murdoch the father. He's frantic. He says this is Alex Murdoch at 4147 Mozel Road. I need the police and an ambulance immediately. My wife and child have been shot badly. Neither neither one of them is moving. It's bad. Uh-huh. I needed the shooting. I wonder. Paul and his mother Maggie had both been shot and killed on the property. And when you hear it's so chilling when you when you see and the dog they're at the dog kennels when he's calling. And it's like, do you hear these dogs barking? These German Shepherd's barking. And he's like something happened. And I mean, it's like chilling.
They both been shot and killed on the property Morgan recalled. I know I'm angry at Paul But it hurt to know that someone was murdered a mother and a son like that was even though it's like her ex that she hates It's like but now he's been murdered like right and that's also a shot of trippy combination feeling me and she's also dealing with Survivor skill right because she's her boyfriend was driving the boat and her friend died, you know, it's just awful So as this news starts to spread the murder of this like family that's untouchable People start looking back at this crash from two years ago and saying could maybe this be an act of revenge like could Anthony Mallory, Miley Morgan Connor one of them have like done this as revenge against the family So now they're all being named as potential murderers to or suspects It's like they just can't escape it And they're being reported by like online redditors and like sleuths and reporters as Suspects in a double homicide that they had nothing to do with wow But when investigators approach Morgan at work without warning and request that she provide them with hair and spit for DNA as well as fingerprints She told them without hesitation Do not overlook Alex Murdoch and I agree with her and that is the end of Wow, this is a great one good job Chris It's gonna be two parts, but like em it's in like when you're watching it and you're like wait The housekeeper died that's that wait what she died how and then oh this wait the sun wait it and em it gets crazier I can't believe I have to say that I believe this story gets crazier, but my My guesses on who is responsible don't feel too crazy It's like yeah, the theories become more and more narrowed to one particular theory that the chaos just keeps expanding Like how far does this go and how far and you get away with it before things are gonna Come back to you, you know, and then it's like it's like trying to fix what you fucked up But like fucking up more, you know, it's like that thing right like they're like creating more violence and Like issues by trying to cover it up. It yeah, it's bad. Oh my god. Yuck. Well, thank you for that. I have never heard of this I got to send you a picture of these fucking people. I can see them in my head. I know I feel like let me guess there's all Blake are upon to right behind them Everything's green golden retriever with a band-a-large That's for sure American flags the whole nine years early hands with like a woven belt And some sparries. Oh the woven belt. Yeah, yeah, not sparries like it's the whatever ones you can't buy on the internet You know some shit like that. Yeah, they're just but look I'm gonna show you the dad because talk about like someone who is Suspicious a bad man a bad man a bad man, and you see a picture and you're like that's Okay, I'm so sorry. I just One glance was all I needed please look of Alex Murdoch people if you'd want to know like he's so scary And then when he's in court, and he's fake crying. It's like the most uncomfortable thing to witness him fake cry Look at the snot coming off his nose. It's like this Sick narcissistic joke. I can't even stand it. I can't stand the man. I mean, I just looking into his dead fucking eyes Tells me everything. Yeah, he's got dead eyes. He's got the eyes where you're like that man If I saw that man out and about like that's what I mean when there's like this vibe when you're Younger and you're like oh, I like to do some silly risky things But then you get to a point where you're like oh even I know this is bad news Like that's the kind of guy where you'd see out with friends and go actually I'm going home like this is bad News for sure like there's there's a not to victim blame because I wouldn't go home I would probably continue on my way and party with these people or when I'm not necessarily But you know what I mean like I'm not saying oh, they should have known better, but I'm just saying 2020 hindsight you look at this guy and go oh fuck yeah, no wonder this house is haunted and terrible the There's also pictures of him with his son. Yeah No comment let's just put it there. They are they are let's just say something's our hereditary including maybe the really Yeary horrors were talking about Gary eyes and like then you think well this this child has been I mean a young adult But like child was drinking have been drinking since childhood Like every day and like I just mistreated. It's just all the sickness is coming out. It's just horrid It's one of those things about like you know Killers were like if they didn't do something so atrocious you could almost find a way to empathize with like the fact that they were doing from the start Right, it's like okay dark dark, but you ended up going so far that I can't even have a feeling for you like yeah Yeah, but it's really see the spectrum of that. Yeah, it's yeah, I mean all I'm thinking when I look at Paul is just like Like him laughing when everyone's like freaking out wondering where she is and yeah, and he's just thinks it's funny And then he's like oh I was driving he was driving and the fact that he was like a Fucking terror to this poor and happy to do it happy to do it and I mean beating her Yeah, you're kidding me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he's trash. Oh my fucking it's just sad. It's it's horrible It's sad it's fucked up. I don't know. It's just like all sorts of levels of Generational evil correct correct correct correct correct correct. Yeah So yeah, we'll get to part two next week, but thanks everyone for tuning in Thanks, and that's why we drink
