E166: It Doesn’t Have to Be Hard: Scaling Your Business with Ease
14m 57s
The transcription challenges the common belief that building a successful business must be difficult, arguing that this mindset often arises from fears of sacrifice, learning, and external judgment. It emphasizes that operating with ease does not mean lacking effort but rather cultivating a sense of trust, resourcefulness, and permission to learn from mistakes. The speaker contrasts two approaches: one driven by scarcity, hustle, and burnout, and another rooted in subconscious alignment, strategic rest, and emotional celebration. To transition to ease, listeners are encouraged to identify underlying fears through self-inquiry, consciously collect evidence of things working out smoothly, and reinforce new beliefs with emotional energy. The goal is to align one’s nervous system and subconscious with ambitious dreams, enabling sustainable growth without sacrificing well-being, ultimately redefining success through softness, strategy, and soul.
Welcome to the JMEC Show, a soft place to land for visionaries, the feelers, the heartladd leaders, rewriting the rules of business. I'm JMEC, author, educator, and eight-figure founder whose work blends nervous system science, subconscious rewiring, and story-driven strategy. If you know that your work is meant to reach more people, if you crave a business that feels as good in your body as it looks on paper, you are in the right place. Here we go way beyond formulas and we go into the felt. This is business. Reimagined through softness, strategy, and soul. Let's begin. It does not have to be hard, and the belief that it does is what's got to sh- I want to explore the actual belief of why most people think that having your dream business, scaling to whatever cashmonds, having massive impact, whatever the case is, actually has to be hard. So I want to peel back the layers because honestly to each person it might be a little bit individualized, but a few common pieces to this is that I'm going to have to learn something new, and I don't know how to do that. It's going to have to be hard because I'm going to sacrifice something, I'm going to sacrifice time, I'm going to sacrifice my health, I'm going to sacrifice my happiness, I'm going to sacrifice relationships, I'm going to be seen differently, and so we create this generalized umbrella term of it has to be hard, and I'm a firm believer that it doesn't absolutely does not. Let's kind of go into the thought process of like, could it actually be easy though? Like, could it be? Could it be easy? And I also want to say that not always, but the actual idea of having a business or reaching your goals in the energy of ease essentially does not mean you'll be lazy, It does not mean that it wasn't worth it or that you didn't work hard enough for it. It really is the fact that when you run a business in ease you have a generalized feeling of, "I know things are working out for me. I know that I'm well-resourced. I know that good things are coming. I know that it's okay to be a beginner. It's okay to mess up. It's okay to try again. It's okay to learn. It's okay to make mistakes. And it's okay to just get back up and do it all over again. I want to give you an example of if you've been running your business for a couple years, let's say. You've probably done a lot of work as it is to get things up, to get your brand, to get your message to do all of the essential pieces to actually have an operating business. And then here you are with this desire for more. I would love to be able to impact more people. I would love to be able to launch that specific program or product or, you know, reach more people or whatever the specific goal is that you have. Think about what that is for you. Oftentimes, the thing that actually stops you from getting to that place is it's going to be hard or I'm going to sacrifice something. So I want to be able to kind of peel back even more so of what that could mean for you or how it's showing up for you. So essentially what is happening in the very early stages of having your business is you're most likely doing everything by yourself. And most likely, you're only running on 5% of your operating power, which is the hustle, the grind, the doing. And when we move into kind of the underneath, which is the subconscious work, which is what's holding all of your beliefs, which is holding the way that you see yourself, the way that you see your leadership, the way that you see what's possible for you, that right there, that part of you, if there is any incongruence of your goals, then it's going to show up as it has to be hard, right? What this could mean is I might actually have to delegate some things out. And what would that mean for my leadership? Would that mean that I'd have to hire somebody? Would that be more challenging? Maybe I would actually have to be using my voice a little bit more. Maybe that would mean I would have to simplify my processes or be able to create more boundaries or be able to create a program that would implement and be able to implement more reach and more growth for people and not just dedicate my time to maybe one-on-one services, let's say. And when we are kind of at this threshold of growth, when we're at this point where I want more, I desire more, you are now at a place where you need to break down what the actual fear is for you. Because it being just hard could mean I need to have a new relationship with learning something new. I need to create a safer boundary for myself with the time that I'm implementing. I need to create a stronger relationship with leadership and maybe not doing everything myself. Now the thing with holding this belief, which is such a common belief because we've grown up with so many people saying you have to work so hard for what you want. And if you're not working hard for what you want, did you earn it? Was it worth it? Can you be proud of it? And if we still have this undercurrent of I have to work hard and we don't release it, what ends up happening is you're going to get there but it's not going to feel good. You're going to get there and your brain is going to want to constantly prove that belief correct. So every single time you have a belief, whether you are consciously aware of it or not, your body and brain is going to do whatever it can to stay within that belief system. So you're going to end up finding very sneaky ways of working longer hours, making things more complicated or feeling like you're getting to this place where all of a sudden you're hanging out with your kids at night and your answering clients or you are doing all the sales calls yourself. So if you want to move into a space of this actually can be easy. Let's figure out how it can be. I run this company with the energy of ease. But before that I ran two companies in the complete opposite way, which is why I love talking about what is possible for you. The other two companies that I was running, there was this belief that if I stopped it would all fall apart. If I stopped I would probably feel things that I had been pushing down for far too long. I was hustling, I was grinding, I was working all night and I was really really really afraid to stop because I had built that first business in the energy of there's no other way but success. And when you are completely creating every single action out of fear of if I don't do this then the other shoe will drop. If I don't do this then where's the money coming from? If it's not just me doing all of this work, all of the time who's going to do it. And now I have so much faith and trust that number one when I slow down I know that I've done my non-negotiables. I know that I'm well-resourced, I know that I'm always taken care of and I know that I'm protected and I know I absolutely have so much deep faith that even in the times when I'm in most deep rest that everything is unfolding for me that is vastly different than the way that I ran my first business because when you're running in the energy of scarcity, fear, worry, or even proving energy like look at how good I can do this like I'm proving to everyone that I can that goes away really fast and it turns into anxiety it turns into fear more doubt and even when you stop even when you close the laptop for the day put your feet up on your bed try to turn on the TV you can't stop thinking about work. So even if you're not working you're here you're mentally thinking about it and there's probably a sense of frustration that happens in the body it feels like panic and worry and you can then go back to work and all of a sudden it goes away. Oh, I'm so calm now right? So then you think about if you're running your business and that energy if you're working towards your goals and that energy of course it's going to feel hard of course it's going to feel like I don't have capacity for anything else how could I add one more thing to my plate but now when you are rooted in when I slow down I get to play I get to have fun I know that the work that I've done today is compounding into my results for tomorrow and into the next week and I don't need to constantly prove that my effort is resulting in something I just know it will and that is the difference between having the energy of ease in your work ethic and the energy of fear hustle constantly having to be productive because I'll tell you that that's the quickest way to burn out the quickest way to want to shut your business down and still desire for your vision and your goals and your dreams to come to life and then not know how to do it in another way. Honestly I will say like a lot of times my clients are coming from a place of burnout and so afraid to bring their dreams and goals back to life because of the way that they did it before but I'm just going to tell you you are not that person anymore you are going to make different decisions you are going to have a different set of awareness and you are not going to do the things that you use.
used to do because you are in charge. You are the author and the main character of what this next vision and version of you gets to look like. And I'm going to tell you, I lived it, I know it. I've been there, done that, and I will never run a business that way again because it nearly took me out. It affected every single part of my life from mental health to my relationships to the way that I felt as a mother, the way that I felt as a partner, and it gets to be so much easier. It really does. With your first steps of recognizing that you want to head into ease and that you want to do things a different way, which is so proud of you. It's so good. It's so great over here. You're going to be here in no time. It's going to be awesome. And so what I want you to ask yourself is what am I afraid is going to happen if I slow down? What am I afraid is going to happen if I do the thing I want to do? You actually have to think about the things that you desire because I know you have a vision. I know you have a next step goal. I know there's something you've been putting off and something that you've been wanting to do. What are you afraid is going to happen if you do that because I can guarantee there's going to be some information that comes up. I'm afraid I'm going to sacrifice this. I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back to this. I'm afraid that someone will see me differently. What I want you to do with those two questions is you're going to get an answer and then I want you to ask why. Then you're going to answer that again. And then you're going to do that process up to five times. We're going to start kind of investigating and getting a little bit deeper of what the actual route is of why you believe you'll sacrifice XYZ or what you are actually afraid is going to happen. Once you're left with this belief on the bottom, I want you to ask yourself, do I believe that to be 100% true? And if you don't, I want you to ask yourself, what would I like to believe instead? Then you need to find proof of that on purpose. Every single moment of every single day, you're going to have a piece of paper or your notes or whatever the case is and you are going to go on a mad dash, a hunt, for all of the ways that it gets to be easy. I woke up and I posted, look at how easy that was. I did this thing, oh, look at how easy that was. Then the next thing that I want you to do is to be able to do a fun little thing. Actually, I got this idea from someone inside of my program, the currency academy. And she shared this with our entire group and I'm so proud of her for doing that because it's so good. Okay, so when you are in the process of creating a new belief of everything is working out for me, everything is working out for me. What she had instructed is, oh, I need to take the trash out. Oh my gosh, look, a trash can. Look how everything is working out for me. Oh, I really need to take a shower and then walk into the bathroom, turn on the shower. Ah, a shower. Everything's working out for me. I really want to put on a cozy pair of pants, go into your drawer, pull out your favorite cozy pants, put, oh, look at how easy. Look at how amazing. Look at how incredible. Look at how perfectly supported I am. And when you do this, every single cell of your body is going to be like, oh, you're right, you're right. It's one of the most simple ways, the things that are already existing for you, say that you desire that thing and then do the thing and make it feel like a celebration, like a ceremony, every single moment until there's this flood of emotion in your body because there can be no change in your neural networks and your brain if there is not an emotional charge to it. If you're just doing things to do them because someone told you that belief is going to stay. If you want to change the belief, that's hatched a lot of emotional charge to it. Put on some hype music, dance, jump, clap, celebrate, scream it out loud. Emotional charge in the body is what rewires again and again. If you're ready to start running your business in the energy of ease, I hope you are, then that's exactly what we do in currency academy. We're going to align your subconscious and your nervous system to get on board with the big dreams and goals that you have because if you're not calibrated to it, it's not going to happen. And it needs to happen because it was put on your heart for a reason. And truthfully, I'm just saying that all the heart-led people need to get really wealthy so that we can do more good in the world. And that's exactly why you have all of this on your heart. So join us inside of currency academy and let's calibrate you to your big dreams, big goals, big mission. And let's do this in the energy of ease because it gets to be easy.
