I'm your host, Kyle Borgononi, and I'm joined by Matthew Bets and the man without pants, Mike Rae. Ah, Kyle's juice today. I love it. See, what's the caffeine intake going on over there? I've had a few, but I mean I'm just excited to talk about my guys. Mike Christian Watson is one of those dudes that I've just been just pounding the table for, and I'm just glad that we could bring him home. Yeah, he had a really good week. I can see how somehow, when Kyle spreads cheats, he's like, "You know, and expect fantasy points. You really overperformed this week, and so we should expect regression next week. It's not going to work." Dude, just watch the tape, Kyle. Just watch Christian Watson on those crossers. Could you even imagine fading that player this year? Could not be me. Could not be Mike. It was Kyle. So, the only thing that could have made this better is the Coast of Love and Didn't Goose Egg. Oh, man. Oh, man. Did indeed Goose Egg, which hurt. I know Kyle's happy about that. But man, what a fun week, boys. Week one. Ah, it was great. You know Mike, the pants store? They had us in the first half. Not going to lie. Yeah, they did. But Ken Walker, baby. Oh, man. Yeah, Ken Walker has, he, the machinery is sold off. It's just scraps. It's just parts. There'll be no more production on pants moving forward. The profits are just going out of business. It's not a great thing. Terrible timing as well because winter is coming very quickly. Yeah. Yeah, no, you know what's going to keep me warm? Ken is Walker fantasy points. I will drape them upon my pantsless body. Covered in points just covered in points everywhere. We will talk about week one because it was high scoring. And yet there were also some players across the board where you're left like asking questions. So on this episode, we will rewind some film, talk about some players behind the scenes. And then hopefully kind of solve a couple of issues of how do you not overreact to this performance, especially in dynasty? Like I'm, I know we're going to talk about some tight ends later on. But I have, I say, likely on a team, I'm trying not to overreact, but I'm happy. Like I'm happy that I have this player that I hope to be something. I think we talked about him a week before like, hey, this is what I'm looking for. This is what I hope can happen. Same thing with Dalton, Kincaid, like another player. It's like, uh, have you been holding on? You should be very encouraged. And yet it was just a one week sample size. So talk about some of this, but we're also going to talk about your Eagles bets because they got the win, but like, I'm assuming people in Philly didn't feel like they actually won the game. I mean, it was pretty ugly for being totally honest. Like outside of a couple of shot plays and some big runs, the offense kind of looked like they did last year from a just lackluster standpoint. And I'm interested to kind of go back through like a lot of the first time play collars on those teams. Like we saw what happened with the chargers and the Eagles didn't look awesome. And there was a couple other offensive coordinators and play collars, Davis Webb, you know, with the Broncos that really had some rough outings. And I think back to the conversation is a lot of us had last year, if you guys recall, on the Jaguars after like the first three, four weeks, where it was like, ah, something is missing. It doesn't look right. Doesn't feel right. It's like, okay, we'll Trevor Lawrence is learning another system and it's going to take some weeks for this team to kind of gel together. So I'm not panicking on those offenses yet. Obviously nobody should after one week, but you at least want to follow away and say, hey, does it improve, you know, in weeks two, three, four, as we kind of progress? Speaking about the Eagles, I think I have the Titans this week. So it's like, okay, if they can't really get something going this week, then you maybe start to see it's in pause and some concern. But it's only one week of data and so you want to react, but obviously not overreact. I love that that drop found a home on this podcast, because we don't get to use it anymore. I think that's what this podcast specializes in. Maybe it's just me. What's the left overs? The left overs. We find a home for the leftover drops. Yeah. Yep. That's fine. Make sure they don't go to waste. But I think it's more to remind Mike every once in a while, he's like, oh, yeah. I made this. It does. I've made a lot of drops over the, over the decade working for the footballers. Every week what we do on the podcast, we rewind the film. We watch tape on a specific player or a situation to dive deeper and to kind of just talk behind the scenes. It's one thing to box score scout, but we kind of want to talk about what we saw on film. Mike, I'm going to let you start us off first with the backfield that was, yep. I watched the, I alluded to this on the main fantasy footballers, but I wanted to see like what happened with Rico, Dowdl and Jaylen Warren of the Pittsburgh Steelers because almost everything was like, you know, the, the simple box score stuff is it was pretty even. What had happened? Warren was more productive and I'm like, okay, well, let's figure out what happened. And the truth was both of them couldn't get anything going like the vast majority. So I think Jaylen Warren had like a couple good runs and then the majority of his receiving work came on a triple or on a trick play, you know, where it's like the, the fake end around. We hand off and then we give it back to Rogers and then Warren picks up, you know, the, the bulk of his receiving arts, but it was, it was brutal. The offensive line in to what I could see was not getting anything going for these running backs. They were throwing a lot like the, the surprisingly the Steelers because they were still, you know, the brain still thinks of the Steelers as the Mike Tomlin Steelers. This is not, this is Mike McCarthy and neutral pass right. They were way up there until, of course, the Denver Broncos were like, what is a, what, we can run the ball. We're not going to, why would we ever do that? We're just going to throw and so my biggest takeaway was that was really embarrassing in a game against the Falcons and Cooper rush and Kyle, you can chime in like, I was, I'm not expecting the, the Falcons at the end of the year were like, that was one of the defenses. Like, I didn't want to play my running backs against the Atlanta Falcons. I don't feel like they made the moves to become that type of a team. They looked like it in week one. It's interesting because last year the Falcons were like out of nowhere, a great defensive front in terms of like pressuring the passer and they did the same thing this past weekend, Aaron Rodgers, but like with an elevated pass rate, you kind of wanted to see more explosive plays across the board from the Steelers. And even with Jalen Warren, it's like when he was on the field, he saw targets. He wasn't pass blocking and then he didn't really do much with it. But yeah, I would say the Falcons are not a team that you should take very seriously at all. Yeah. And then the, the funnier part to me was all I'm watching are, I'm watching the running back. And if DK Metcalf was just like spotlight in this entire matchup of mistake, mistake, like, so I guess you couldn't try and spin it and be like, you know what? The pass rate over, like the neutral pass rate and that type of stuff, the fact of that Metcalf was getting these opportunities and getting them where he should have caught them. But he did not. So it was a very, very funny week one. Perhaps, you know, like we talk, we don't talk ariards very much, but it's like, it is another one of those variables where someone has tons and tons of ariards, but they're not coming through. It's like, well, if they just catch a couple of these passes, then all of a sudden this player is very good for fantasy football. Maybe that's what happens for DK Metcalf, but it was very, very fun for me to watch week one of a player that I'm not very fond of as being a, like an upper echelon wide receiver, although he's paid like one and he's supposed to be one and a lot of people think he is. So that's really what stuck out for me is how bad Metcalf was. And then that nothing was neither of these running backs could get anything going. It wasn't, one was worse, it was just nothing was there. It's so good. What did you think about the Pittsburgh running backs? Well, DK Metcalf. - Sucked in the scene. (both laughing) - You should fire up the all-to-one, too. - And just do DK Metcalf targets and be like, dude, he could have had a bazillion points. - He had 39% of their first free targets, which is a wild number. Michael Pittman had 9% by the way. So it's just like very different in terms of designed first-read type plays. And yet, Michael Pittman finished with more yards. And let's just like, it's hilarious to think about his role. - It's crazy. - But you will have spike weeks. That's the problem with DK Metcalf. It's like you're gonna keep being drawn in by the name and hopefully they keep the pass rate up. But that is funny, I watched the runny max, but this guy's catching a stray. - And the schedule does kinda open up here. I mean, obviously you'd say the schedule's great in week one. They should have put up points against the Falcons who just lost another defensive line and they had no head rushers like, come on. But this week, it might be tough sliding into the Patriots, potentially kind of a slog. But then we get the Bengals, the Browns, the Colts, the Bucks, the Saints, and the Browns again, heading into the by-weeks. There are games here, I think to dig it back to the runny backs, where one of these guys might be able to establish themselves as the lead guy and really be able to kinda carve out. Maybe RB2 role, but probably more flex type value, but just wanted to point that out. Don't overreact, it's one week, but there are matchups coming up in the next couple of weeks or maybe we can get some more data that helps. - Who do you guys want rest of season? - Dot or Warren. - It's tough after one week. - I know. - I still think it's Warren to me. - I mean, I've loved Warren forever. I just think he's underutilized, talented player, but like for Rico, the thing that is so intriguing about him moving forward is we've seen him come into multiple backfields with different coaching staffs and just kinda take the job at certain points. And obviously Chuba came back last year and things changed, but he did it in Dallas with Mike McCarthy. He did it in Carolina last year. And Warren has had these opportunities with the Steelers and they kinda just have never really given him that. Now it is a new coaching staff, but my point there is like Rico has shown he can take, you know, touches and compile them across the season whereas Warren's kinda just been more of like a spotty flex type spike guy. - And Rico had the snaps. It was 39 to 25 from my source 21 to 13 in terms of routes. So like Rico ran more. I know that the targets for round ones are gonna be way harder for Warren 'cause he got targets on his limited routes, but it's like you want a guy who's out there. And so if I'm picking right now I'll stick with the guy who's on the field more in week one, I'll go with Rico. - I went with another running back who really didn't see a ton of work, Bucky Irving against the Bengals. He had eight carries, which you're like, oh my gosh, like did he do anything with eight for 45 with a rushing touchdown, saw seven targets, seven receptions, 48, he did fumble one time. But just like as a runner, and then the workload was the main thing that I wanted to like come back to. So his first two carries were nine yards, nine yards on cutbacks where it was like, okay, that's the Bucky, we remember, he could read the defense. The next carry Baker ended up being the lead blocker, which I do not recommend for your franchise quarterback, but that's what he did. - Yeah, but he will do it. - And then a 10 yard touchdown, he went burst out the outside. He had runs of nine, nine, 10 and eight, which sounds like, okay, that's fine. That was four runs. - That's fine, that's great. - That was four runs of eight plus yards. That was more than any week he had last year. So like, it was a small sample size, but inside the red zone, he was the dude. And then I think the thing that we all worried about was Kenneth Gainwell taking away passing work, taking away a red zone work. But Bucky had more routes, more targets, and a career high 25% target share. So only 15 opportunities and only eight rush attempts, but because targets are worth so much, I was very encouraged by watching Bucky. I just wish they would have given him more because it was working, but they just got so far behind Baker fumbled a couple times. But I can't always say like, okay, this is the Bucky we saw at the beginning of last year. - I agree, yeah, I thought he looked good. I thought he looked like he had his burst back. And a lot of the talk on his injury throughout the offseason was more shoulder related than the foot. So I think this was the expectation, but obviously it's good to actually see proof of concept with that. I am really interested to see what happens in the next probably two-ish weeks when Sean Tucker comes back, 'cause he didn't play in this game. Did they give him the ball inside the 10-year-old line or does Bucky keep that role? And if Bucky keeps that role, and he does add, I don't want to say secondary pass-catching work, 'cause I think the pass-catching volume might be game-script-dependent, it'll change based off of can you game well on a certain week and what have you, but earning targets in first and second down, as Kyle has pointed out many times over the years, is more valuable than a true quote-unquote third down back. If you can keep those and maintain most of those goal lines such as, I think Bucky can have a really, really solid year, but the question mark becomes what happens when Sean Tucker comes back and we'll probably get that information hopefully very soon. - The Bucky years last year were one of the, like they ran 11 personnel, I think the third highest in the league, and then week one, they were at 83%. So it was like, what they're running out there is three wide receivers, K-Dot and doing this cardio thing. - Yeah! - Oh, Ted Hurst gets a shout out there. - He was out there. - K-Dot and, yeah, he probably was. - Yeah, I mean, it's way more fun to talk about Ted Hurst, who, I mean, like you guys, he'd be brand. For my data, I'm seeing two fewer routes, than a book in Godwin. - Yeah, 78% of the routes. - Yeah, just, but not as much opportunity. - That's okay. - I mean, I guess three. God only had four. - It's pretty wild. We'll go through some other rookie wide receivers later, but like, to get on the field and see 70 plus percent of snaps, like, or 70 plus percent of the routes, in your first week in the NFL, is really like encouraging stuff. That's not normal. - It is. - It's not normal for day two guys. - You guys wanna hear a wild stat here from what I'm seeing? - I mean, I'm open. - Get ready for this. Get ready for this one, guys. Ted Hurst, you three targets. Chris Godwin, four targets. K-Dotten, five targets. - If he's trans-continue. - Emeka Ibuka, six targets. Bucky Irving, seven targets. What is happening here? How does that happen? - This is the goal. - We got it. - Comorush, he's that and he's like, yeah, buddy. That is what we are doing. Check the dead body on every play. - Baker is just massive OCD. He's like, I need this in line, dude. I need my statistics very linear and numerical. - When they show them on the bench in between series on the iPad, you think they're watching film and plays? No, they're looking at, in the spreadsheet, how many targets is each player having? Half of me. - They're getting in their seats. Okay, guys, line up in terms of who's gotten the targets. - I think that's what McDaniel would actually end up doing. Just end like one day, tell people like, yeah, I actually did this. Where it's like, let's get Gadson out there. I think Gadson had like two targets and like five routes. But like that kind of stuff. Like he's sick enough to do it. I'm cool with that line of thinking. That's fine. - Of course you are. Speaking on Ted Hirst, I know we're gonna get to the other rookie wide receivers later, but I did wanna know, "Jill and McMillan was out for this game." I think Ted Hirst has a chance if he is good, which we don't know. I mean, we'll see. - Oh my God, I think you can change your inflections every time. You can say, "Yeah, based on how he does." So if it's really good, but if it was kind of like, like if he's, you know, on a Monday, Monday, you can just drop it down and just, you know, just a little murmur. - Well, what I was gonna say is if he can produce enough and keep that traditional kind of extra-ceiver role in this offense, I think he could hold off Jill and McMillan the entire year. The opportunity is there while McMillan is banged up, but we'll see what they do when McMillan comes back. Speaking of rookie wide receivers, I mentioned on last week's show when we were Jason talking about just like, "I just wanna see the dolphins offense." Like can they, we're not gonna be great, we know that. But can they be functional? And can they support the money chain? Can Malik Willis be that kind of late round quarterback that people were targeting because of the rushing upside? And do these rookie wide receivers actually play every down? And can we maybe have some diamonds in the rough here for dynasty? And Caleb Douglas, I think, has answered the question. Yeah, it's possible. I mean, Kyle shared this with me. His 94 receiving yards was the third highest week one receiving yardage line for any day two wide receiver over the last decade behind only AJ Brown and Terry McClurean. So basically what Kyle is saying is Caleb Douglas is on the same career trajectory and you can put it in there. But obviously very encouraging seven targets for Douglas. 81% of the routes he earned a 26% target share. I thought he looked the part. Really quick off the line, able to create separation, definitely like what I saw on tape with him. So I'm encouraged by that my concern at the same time with the dolphins offense. Obviously there's many concerns, but like overall, there's some Justin Field Z type things to the offense not necessarily that they play the same way with Malik Willis, but when you have a mobile quarterback who is going to scramble and take sacks which he did in this game, it's going to basically limit the passing pi every single week where some of these dropbacks are not turning into actual pass attempts. And when Bobby Slovak wants to be a run first team, that could become an issue down the line where, you know, I'm excited about maybe what Chris Bell can be in a month when the snaps ramp up. If Douglas can take another step forward, that would be great. I know some people were hoping on Greg Deed and maybe be a sleeper tie down this year. For those things to come to fruition, he has to take less. and the offensive line was billed as maybe like it's kind of sneaky unit, they did not look great in week one and maybe that was part of Malik Willis with a new system and a lot sort of stuff, but just wanted to highlight there was some good There was some not great, but I'm definitely encouraged by Caleb Douglas at least in the first game granted it was the readers They're gonna be a weird team To just project week to week so just looking at how they like ran their offense 2% of their snaps was in 12 personnel 0 and 13 so it's basically like hey, we're gonna do three wide receivers or We're gonna put a full back on the field because that's what McGayner used to do and then a 74% pass rate is awesome If you have Malik Willis and you're hoping that you get the volume, but yeah, I think that feels as a perfect example of like There are some weeks where he ruled like he was just awesome if you had him in your lineup And there are other weeks where you got negative points because the offense was so bad Mike and I were actually talking through Douglas Bell and Washington earlier. Yep, I Feel like it's gonna like flip week to week where like Washington's gonna give you the PPR points out of the slot Maybe run the most routes, but I think Douglas Could be a better long-term value. I don't know Mike. Do you have any thoughts you want to add? Yeah, it's Between those two I think it it is tough to know you know because like if you're playing redraft Caleb Douglas is He's in play for one of the higher more priority pickups at the wide receiver position a rookie in game one putting up five for 94 is very exciting like you you should be excited about that It it's not a butt, but it's you know just date on the other hand Malik had Uh eight targets you only caught three of them three for 53 honestly for For his week one is is not bad. It wasn't the like What we're used to of him just getting super short stuff You know like how he'd kind of been used it with with McDaniel So it's not horrifically. It's it's not useless routes that he's running He was out there. I think for basically every single route um and uh led the team in ariards obviously because he didn't come down with all of them But it's like if Malik catches one more pass then he's reason right next to Caleb Douglas in terms of total production So I think they're there's definitely leagues out there in dynasty leagues especially where those two guys are You're you're gonna be looking at maybe I can actually play this guy Chris Bell the snaps are just they're too low Uh In the meantime like they will ramp up you know it so it's very exciting to see a talent a player of his talent level This fast from the recovery of the ACL But it's still gonna take some time before I think that he's really a truly a full-time player Uh out there on Sunday and it's like So it's almost like Malik Willis if you're thinking long-term, you know Maybe redraft it's it's gonna be bompier but at least in dynasty it's like This guy just could be on a you know like the arrow is pointing up Because we need these wide receivers to acclimate 220 yards 39 rushing yards like that's not horrifically bad You know we throw a couple touchdowns in there and then that's a fantastic week So I'm I'm still optimistic for Malik Willis but Because of the makeup of the wide receiver room and what we saw on Sunday It will Take some time but I do I'm still very interested He's just gonna always end up to me better fantasy quarterback than real life quarterback Which puts him in the fields category of saying We always I think we said last week bets like I don't think this guy's they're starting quarterback in 2027 Probably not but I mean things change you know You never know what could happen at the end of the year where they just happen to be one draft slot out of the right spot To pick their guy or whatever it is but um, yeah, most likely not gonna be they set up his contract It's how I would say it The one thing though just to kind of wrap this discussion up on the dolphins That I at least was encouraged by for our game that we play for fantasy for this year Is I mentioned last week like when you're down two scores in the second half some coaches Will just keep running the football to be like this is what we do and this is our identity. It's like okay Well, you're not even trying to win the game at least Bobby Slowick in this game Let them throw the ball now grandchildren the first half their first down rush rate was very high He's always been a run run pass type of offensive coordinator when games are close But at least when they were trailing they were like hey Malik you're gonna drop back And that's when you saw the scrambling and some opportunities for the pass catchers So if we can still get that in a second half when they're losing I think for fantasy this team could be Not great because your team implied total every week is gonna be you know 15 and a half but Usable in like double flex leagues now just blind yourself from like being last and past success rate this past week Don't worry about that. Don't worry about it. I guess It's gonna take some time. Uh contract-wise. I'm looking at it I mean our teams are more and more willing to eat Dead cap than they have been especially this team This team loves sure that's what they love doing Contract wise it sure seems like he would be the guy. I don't disagree with like if they're in the top Three or top two and people are firmly convinced at the end of the college year that it's like no arch and Dante And maybe someone else would like these are can't miss guys you have to take one But otherwise like the the cap hit that willis will have on the the team versus his dead cap. It's upside down like so it would it will cost them Almost twice as much in terms of dead cap than of other than just keeping him so He's probably around next year Let's say quick break and then we'll move on We are going to look into a couple of week one situations and try try not to overreact I'm gonna do what you all think I'm gonna do which is In preparation for the show I did some film watching you know the the second we just did But I also rewatched that whole grind in that tape Yeah, but I rewatched that whole scene from jammer choir too Oh to to get pumped. Yeah, just to like get myself on the right like mindset Of just you know Of what are you leaving the business Kyle? What are you saying here who's with me? Anybody an announcement on the show Kyle It is so great in that scene which you know some kids would be like what movie but He just the he holds out like they do stretch it a little longer and then Dorothy boy just jumps in So it was nice. It was nice to go back to that movie um I don't want to overreact to everything and you shouldn't But there are some situations where we just need to talk about them and we gotta talk about christian Watson right We have to please Do you guys to bring him up? But I don't know if my button's gonna work. I'm gonna try I like that drop because that means Josh has to do more work on the podcast. Yes might keep it in the drops We'll do it. Sorry Josh. I Do want to talk about the packers passing off inside to say that slowly because Part of the christian Watson Narrative that we all talked about but more importantly just for Jordan love was that if this guy gets an opportunity to throw I think there could be more in the passing pie for all of these guys and even the last couple weeks I remember I went back Sometime this summer watched all of Matthew golden film and watch Matthew golden in the playoffs And we at least left the light on saying hey, there's room. They cleared the deck Moving on from wicks and dobs that maybe he could be more of a thing So betts I know you were looking at some of their pace metrics but like the packers offense played very different in week one than we've seen in the last year or two Yeah, basically a lot of the the summer and the offseason was the discussion around like two things with the packers The first was would the routes actually condense for their big three with Golden Watson and read and of course Tucker craft and the answer was yes So we got that check and I'm not I don't think that's one of those things that we should gloss over like I think that is here to stick moving forward So as far as reacting I buy that from week one the other thing is we were talking about a lot of people were like You know this could be the year that they actually let Jordan love You know run the show and not kind of be so conservative and maybe that's Josh Jacobs with the legal situation Which I'm sure a lot of it is but at least in week one They did check that box as well. They were second pace. They were 12th and neutral pass rate. So Thinking about the ceiling on Jordan love this year for fantasy, you know Especially in super flex leagues where he's probably your quarterback too I think you are gonna have some really nice spike weeks out of this offense in the past game And obviously with the Josh Jacobs kind of lingering issue going on here That might continue more and more into the season and if they have success offensively I think Matt LaFour might let that stick. So I'm excited about that. Obviously if you got Watson You're very excited craft will get you know stronger as the year goes on But really the two takeaways from you were the pass rate and then the route share and the usage from Matthew Golden Was awesome in week one and the box score wasn't incredible But the underlying metrics were great No, the box score should actually excite you yeah Because you like you can't trade for Christian Watson now It's done the Whoever had him was probably a truth or and then week one happens and it's some immediately in 80 our touchdown You're like yep, we're good to go Matthew Golden, higher target share, more routes like this was, we have, you know, just defiably been, not the biggest supporter of Matthew Golden and it would like, didn't like him as a prospect, year one was just like, what, what are we doing here? Why, why it? Like, you have Jayden Reed. What are you doing with Matthew Golden? Look good, man. Look good was very, very exciting to see what he did and he's still dynasty. You know, it's hard doing these shows like my brain blurs between dynasty and redraft, but it's like, you cannot get Watson. Matthew Golden, it's possible. I think it's possible that people might just look at the total points and go, hmm, it's kind of nice. Maybe I can, I can get rid of Matthew Golden now. I think, I think good stuff of, good stuff is coming for Golden this year. I flipped in a team where I'm rebuilding. I flipped Marcian Lloyd. This was a week ago. So I flipped him for Matthew Golden because this team needed running back. So I understood their need. And for me, it was like, I, is excellent. I like having Lloyd. I obviously thought I had nothing from there, but it was one of those things where this team needed running back. It met each other's needs. And now I own a rebuilding team. That's where I like Matthew Golden. And that's where we kind of talked this off season. Like we hated the production profile. We don't think he was supposed to be a first rounder. And yet you can still have an opinion on a player and say, this is what changed. One of the things that I talked about last week was what I'm, what I'm looking for is, is a player involved inside the red zone. And last year he was like off the field all the time. I brought up him. Luther Burton was one of those guys too. Just like always off the field when they got inside the red zone. He had six routes run inside the red zone this past week, which is crazy. Considering he didn't top three routes run inside the 20 in any game last year from week six on even the playoffs. So like they getting close. It's golden. It's Watson. And you know, maybe they get into 12 personnel. The weirdest thing though. So awesome game for them. The packers lose. And then you look at some of the other stuff with the team. And you go, holy crap. The Vikings blitz them on 74% of loves dropbacks. And their offensive line was in shambles because Brian Flores is really good at his job. So yes, I say I'll say that won't always be the game plan as they're moving forward. Like it won't always look like this. When he was blitzed, it was like actually Jane Reed was like the hot route that, you know, the guy that he targeted first. But this, this isn't often to want to buy into for our strength of schedule metrics. The packers, wide receivers have the easiest rest of season schedule. So I'll take that. Can I read you the next like five matchups? Please at the jets against the Falcons and the bucks against the bears against the Cowboys at Detroit home against Carolina. That's through week eight. I think this offense could be one of those offenses when we look back in late October be like, you needed packers this year to have a good certain fantasy. I mean, I think it's wheels up for this offense. What? So I didn't get to watch all the game live. I went back and watch all the routes for the guys. But like something in that game flipped where there was a point, you know, where it's like the packers have control of this game. And then I look up later and I go, holy crap, they're down like two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. I saw someone tweet about it. I can't remember off the time I had, but someone maybe was sharper. It's somebody like that. But the O'Connell completely flipped what he did at halftime on offense. And it's it was a big change. Like, you know, like heavy, I think it was like heavy 11. And then they went, they brought the beef in in in the second half and the boys. Yeah, you need to go away. You need to be careful sometimes. So that change was humongous. And I probably a huge spark that flipped the momentum of the game. And then the offense was finally able to do stuff. That is probably something we need to always factor in. Like they had a game plan with Kyler Murray that they want to do install. And they've been installing for weeks. He gets hurt. They have to adjust. And I know they finished being dead last neutral pace. So in the second half, you know, they flipped the script, wins throws three touchdowns. I think it was only like 130 yards, but still like they figured out a way. And that's what that's just kind of comes back to Kevin O'Connell is one of the handful of guys that we say we trust you, no matter who the quarterback is out there, except for Max Brozmer. Like I, I, I, I, I, I didn't want to say his name. I just wanted to kind of wave and move past, but yeah. Yeah. Now, the packers, we should be excited for the passing offense we're going to see. Let's go to the Eagles. Because it was a close win, a two point win. We saw the Sean Manion offense for the first time. And the offensive line just was bullied the entire day. Jalen Hertz was under pressure on 49% of dropbacks. So bats, you can give your homework takes. And then Mike and I can kind of bring you back to earth. I don't know if I have any specific homework takes, other than it didn't look good. I mean, you think about what the conversation was all last year. And it was like is the offensive line regressing? Are they injured? You know, what's going on with Hertz? There was just kind of all those conversations weekend and week out. And we didn't really get any answers because the offensive line played pretty bad in this game. And blended Dickerson is their left guard. He's been placed on IR was playing through injury in this game. So I mean, the offensive line film evaluators out there on Twitter were having a field day with his tape from week one. It was brutal. So maybe him being out because he's not healthy is kind of a blessing in disguise in the short term. So we'll see. But I will say there was two things with Shawn Manning's offense that I thought were encouraging. The first was pre step motion. They were among the league leaders in week one. So that's great. And the ability to hit some shot plays. You saw them taping wicks get loose. You saw the scotter get loose, say quants, served off a long run. But in general, the down and down consistency was pretty abysmal. And what I was discouraged by for two factors for the offense for fantasy. One, they were up in pre step motion. As I said, it was great. But they were 27th and play action rate when I think about like the two easy buttons you push as an offensive coordinator are play action emotion. And you only did one of those two things. The other one was when they did get a lead in the second half. We've seen this with the Eagles in recent years, but we also saw it with the Florent Green Bay, where Manning comes from. They were willing to sit on the lead and just bleed the clock down. And for fantasy, whether it's your team, if you have Eagles or whoever they're playing in the second half, if they're going to do that and sustain drives, play a volume, we'll get nerfed. And obviously, fantasy points, we'll get nerfed. So some good, some bad, not sure how much stock to put into each of those things. But like I said, they do get the tightens this week. And the jets were efficient enough against that defense, which certainly has issues. Mike, you got any thoughts about like, take one was one of those players where in the first half, I thought he was going to break a big one. And then he was basically just asked to pass block the entire second half. Yeah, really low on the team routes. I mean, I would watching that game, I would say like really disappointing, like a really disappointing game for for Philadelphia. They should have beat the crap out of Washington and said, it's a very close competitive game. Like Devon takes Smith. This is your, this is week one, let's go set the tone for the season of we don't need AJ Brown. You got me, I'm Devote Smith. And then it's three for 53. Like, so that was just disappointing. We're really, really, that's that's how I feel about this game. Encouraged for wicks. Yes, his is a little like, don't like, don't get over your skis with wicks, you know, because it's two catches turns into a bajillion points. We love all those points. And like the fact that if you, if you got wicks, you know, deep buried on your dynasty bench, that feels pretty good. That, that this is probably a player that in a pinch, you can put in and at the flex position, as he's just running like AJ Brown type of a role in this offense. But I mean, I guess the panic alarm, I'm not panicked on Smith, just disappointed. But are we like with Barkley of, you know, it was like a lot of people were like, hey, that we're going to bounce back this year. Everything's going to be perfectly fine for for sake on Barkley. If the offensive line is not fixed, it will not be fixed for, for sake on Barkley. Yeah, a lot of the yards before contact bros were out, kind of just highlighting that and highlighting just like where he was met behind the line of scrimmage. I think, I think overall, this offense tried a bunch of things in the first week. And like you said, a couple of shot plays worked, which opens up play action, which opens up, you know, some of those opportunities, hopefully down the road. And then they also tried a bunch of screens like that's where, you know, lemon gets his, you see his yards per out run, it ends at negative 0.18, which breaks my chart. But like Smith, lemon and works was negative as well. They didn't do so hot there, but they kind of split up the targets in the first reads. I've just trying a little bit of everything, which can work over time. But I think for fantasy, we're like, I want massive use. Usage out of sake one. I want massive usage out of Devon to Smith and it just didn't happen. So hopefully over time that kind of sorts itself out McCuy lemon It was funny interviewing him after the game like so how'd you feel your first game with and he's just kind of you know doing his little thing going back given this really Broad general answer where I think someone would be like hey man. It wasn't good. It wasn't great Yeah, let me let me treat our training. We're we're damn bad Yeah, I'm honestly I'm not I'm not worried about him either When you miss all of that time then Then what you you can't expect well, I mean I can expect not negative yards I will say that but overall don't don't panic on lemon everything will be fine Remember from his film. It's like yes. He's a slot player So 64% of his routes were slot but like USC. He was getting the shot plays down the field and Winning those contested catches so he's so much more. We just didn't see it the first week so like You know don't overreact to McCuy lemon. Okay, please don't do that even though I saw a bunch of tweets They were like him and Kateria's Tony are the only guys to do this in week one It was probably me though who put that out I muted you on Twitter, so I wouldn't know nice. That's cool Let's take quick break and we'll go through some more Next we I want to talk about some tight ends in a positive light I feel like we just kind of shared a couple of negative things about the Eagles. Sorry, Betts despite winning But some tight ends that were either in new roles or just accelerated roles as they likely don't concave And then it wouldn't be a dynasty podcast if we didn't talk about our boy Johansson Johansson That was close Not a lot of a lot of line ups. I don't know how to never call you had like some some some dad duties Oh, man, it was I think it was a touchdown in the fourth was his first catch I rewatched that game also a lot of plays. So it took a while to rewatch the game and I go This isn't working out so well in the first half dude. Shock was so bad So bad and then he ends up with the most passing yards on the week So I mean We're in guys. Shock daddy is yeah, taking the league by storm Betts and I on the DFS embedding podcast We kind of recap that game, but it's like that's like if you want in results You look at that game you go sweet look how many routes they ran look how many plays they ran Look what all they did on the yardage and then actually sitting down to watch the game We go this game did not go how we thought I will say Kellen Moore Is good at his job and I just I just think The way that he shuffles people in and out like between Johnson and Valle and OlaVe They were like hey you can run in the slot will manufacture touches for you and just kind of like Obviously OlaVe is the dude But like all three of those guys can be used in creative ways Where opposing defenses can't just be like well, you're the slot wide receiver You know, you're the Demario Douglas of this team. So this is what you do It's like all three of those guys can kind of cycle in and out. So Johansson you got to be excited that he's basically a wide receiver Yep, and I think as long as Tyson's out you just keep rolling him out there I honestly I would start all these guys. I would start. I mean obviously OlaVe But I think Valle is like in a double flex totally fine, especially in full ppr and the same for drawn Johnson like as long as Uh Tyson's on IR the targets are going to go to basically these three players So we love that for fantasy, especially in an offense that will play fast Yeah, Mike and I are just you know chatting all day about Valle and how smart we are for starting in week one I started to even redraft Kyle It was awesome to leave I found this really niche stat just to make ourselves feel good But he was tied for the league lead in first retargets when his quarterback was blitzed obviously they had 80 place but still Like he's gonna be valuable for the short term and I think that's good Let's talk about likely in King Cade because I think also long term if Tyson is who we think he is no no The dynasty people like me need Tyson to be alive Yeah, no, that's what I'm saying. Oh, okay. I'm saying if Jordan if Jordan Tyson is who we believe he is as a player Put that level of talent in this offense I mean that is so exciting and overall just like if you're a Saints fan it It sucks that you didn't come out with the victory But you went toe-to-toe with the Detroit Lions in week one on the road Like and had it had a chance you're a two-point conversion away from stealing a victory from a team that has true Super Bowl aspirations where you're like I hope we can compete for the division The Lions are like if we don't win the Super Bowl. It's a failure of a of a season Like that is very exciting for that team. You do know that the Saints are tied for the division lead right now I do know that the good old NFC South never lets us down. There you go in terms of being stinky poop. Yeah, let's talk about likely and King Cade who you know have a lot more value in dynasty leagues likely was awesome. I got to flex him in a home league And I needed it. I did like I went to bed and I woke up a victor. It was amazing um But he was right behind Tramick bride in terms of target share at the Titan position in week one And then King Cade We got a boost as well where it's like you're getting more routes the yards brow run stuff has always been good. It was 5.91 But they used him in motion. They did a lot more 13 personnel like I think the trajectory of the bills Out from under Sean McDermott I feel like Joe Brady kind of got to be a lot more creative In how he used King Cade And so like both of those guys I am Excited and not just I don't think I'm overreacting. I think these guys are going to be things rest the season I'm with you. I mean, I'm in full agreement of that the Isaiah likely will start with him of just Jackson dart was very impressive in this game like he seemed to be Not a wild man. He seemed very much in control You know malik neighbors being back as a it's a humongous thing for this team but it's like that The the likely drum beat over the offseason was like it was there It was just kind of faint. You kind of had to put the you had to get a glass and Put your ear on the glass and then put that to the ground so you could hear it But it really he felt you know if you're following the show by as we were approaching the season. It was like man It really just the vibes and everything you're hearing of like likely is going to be the number two target for this team It was you know I was the The pushback was fun and easy of Harbaugh being likely's coach last year telling us he's going to be a pro bowler and it's like You barely used him last year. Well there were why should we believe you this time? I do I'm my chips are all in I think Isaiah like there's going to be likely and Dalton concade are are the the late round tight ends from this year. It's a week one, but I'm I'm ready to call that already Nice. Yeah, I agree with you the the giants played a great game from start to finish. They were awesome in that game Um on don't concade. I don't know if Kyle. I have you anything else on the giants, but on concade I did want to know I thought it was so interesting that basically When McDermott was there and Joe Brady was the OC They kind of went ultra run heavy right which was like Their game plan was like you know at this kind of wide receiver rotation with Some concade some Shakir some splash plays here and they're from the other guys But largely you couldn't count on the water severs obviously DJ Moore comes in And Joe Brady in his first game as head coach Completely changes the identity of the offense their neutral pass rate was 9% higher than what their average was last year So obviously the play call is the same. It tells me that likely the Overall philosophy top down was McDermott saying as a defensive minded head coach Let's be a little more run heavy and you saw them trend more pass heavy So if we can get the passing pie to go back up to what we saw from the insane Josh Allen passing seasons of you know Three years ago or whatever it was Then I do think the concade thing can stick and also DJ Moore can stick moving forward So I think if you got those two guys you've got to be excited about what they did on the road in Houston great defense When you look at their personnel stuff like it says that 40% of their snaps were 13 personnel like Whenever we talk about like heavier You know like you know the teams are running out two or three tight ends. It's like yes But one of those was Dalton concade who is a wide receiver essentially like I'm looking at a snaps. He had 42 snaps 55% of them We're either in the slot or out wide. He also took a snap in the back field. It was like He's not a normal tight end that we're throwing in there as like an extra dude as like an extra blocker That you just bring in and now you have 12 or 13 personnel So I look at the way the team functions and I think they see him alongside DJ Moore as their one two punch It's still weird that James Cook does not see the insane receiving work that he Had in college. Yes, it's it's a weird thing like it's just and I don't I'm not gonna point the finger at Josh Allen Say he doesn't throw the running back. It's just it's not a huge part of the game and yet it's concade it's more and I know more had the big play but I would be very encouraged that the past volume or at least the the the need to throw the ball they were at 62% this first week is a very different than what we've seen right where it's like early downs we're running we're running we're running so don't concade or likely who would you rather have in dynasty? I think I personally would go concade but I think it's close oh man let's see so likely is 26 man concade just so you know is Mike and I tied in on our league record team it is I'm very I'm very happy especially where we got him in the draft yes um man that's it's so funny it's like the the the lower snaps player for the elite quarterback versus like the number two option for an up and coming quarterback that's a really tough choice I in a full PPR if I'm going to give a cop out I think I would take concade in the full PPR yeah oh that's fine I think likely we'll have more receptions at the end of the year you think so I think I would I would think we'd be concade well if it is then holy crap he's gonna be really good break the tie I'm it's tricky man I mean everything everything went perfectly well for the giants in the first game let's see what happens if is it the Dallas did the Dallas defense just stay completely broke right and dark I mean not take anything away from dark dark was awesome he was one of the best quarterbacks in week one but like he played a pretty flawless game and we've seen some ups and downs in his young career and what just what does the giants often look like if things are not going perfectly to plan where negian g-ro can kind of run heavy personnel and play like dictate the game and play from ahead like what happens with they're just from behind and they have to abandon things and it goes chaotically so let's get more data to answer that question but if I had to pick right now I'd probably pick concade I guess I I think you've swayed me on on concade they did that on the road at against Houston and can you mean this matters so much but concade now playing with one arm sleeve I mean the swag through the roof the aura that changes everything like I mean you know you know you know something place football I know I've got my boy he's playing high school tackle football now and the aura on the drip it is very important it means everything it's everything it's everything in all those sports I will say the the fact that he can't where you can't wear a tinted visor oh he's so mad like he want he wants me to he's like every time we go to do a sporty store oh dude dad can we buy the tinted visor I'm like you can't even play it yeah but I'll just put it on for practice we're just gonna be putting a visor on and off your helmet every every weekend like get out of here we're not doing that baseball has an obscene amount of accessories and obscene amount because pros have every single thing known to man and the kids want it to um I will add this about the bills like we saw more passing but like let's say the schedule I mean they have the the lions this week which is going to be an awesome game on Thursday night but they will have some games down the stretch where it's like they're going to run the ball when the weather gets cold and things change like we know they're going to go back to some of that but they have an interesting schedule Detroit Chargers New England Rams it's going to be tough to run the ball on some of those teams so hopefully we continue to see some passing volume let's finish up the episode by talking about some rookie wide receivers and I think for this podcast we've been with people from scouting the players to talking about the combine to where they're going to get drafted they get drafted so I feel like we've walked with a lot of people through the ups and downs of the scouting process and then you have week one and it either confirms your priors if you didn't pick that player like oh man obviously I didn't take carnal tape so you know the titans are terrible or you are a Denzel Boston truth and you're like look what he did and it was like one bomb touchdown at the end so I did the terrible terrible thing I went back and watch the Titans film oh man why so Kyle you didn't have to so well I have carnal tape on one of my redraft teams but I just I like the player I think we all like carnal tape when he's on the football field and I watched the first drive I go hey this isn't bad and then nothing else happened the rest of the game and I pulled up their game logs it was fuel goal punt punt punt punt punt punt punt punt punt touch down at the end guys I think carnal tape's fine I think he's gonna be fun as a player I have questions about Brian Dable and I have questions about Kim Ward oh man yeah the talent versus situation draft conversation is getting kicked right in the nards right now it in my first read only league first read targets he was awesome 32% of the targets they they can't watch watching that game live was oh it was it was it really hurt my heart like it really did of like people were so excited for carnal tape and they were like towards the end of the year there was at least something from cam ward you know it was it was not I don't think it was just a poop through the entirety of the season we saw some things right okay okay cam ward can improve wolf we're back to square one of well he's got to improve again I mean 4.4 yards of pass attempt against the jets cool tells you everything you need to know about how the game went don't if you didn't watch it don't bother it's not good there's a couple of things I'll say on this I was optimistic about the day ball offense I have several question marks it's one week but I have many doubts and question marks at this point the other thing is Robert solid brother you got you cannot be punning on key situations on fourth down with your team down you know 13 points or whatever it is really in the third quarter how are teams still doing this like you are giving up win probability every time that happens and you did it twice in the second half so the balls on notice cam ward's on notice Robert saw his on notice I just think surrounding circumstances for this team is not good man not good if you said that to solid he would give you a wedgie punchy in the nose and call you a nerd he absolutely would and he would be correct but but the math says so just seeing that I was like and I had flashbacks to if you guys were called last year when his name is escaping you who took over for the Titans Mike McCoy or whoever it was oh did you say he who took over last year you're talking about after Callahan was fired yes but there was like a play in the Colts game where cam ward's like screaming at the interim head coach like you got to go for it Mike and now Robert solid doing the exact same thing you know when you're later worth I don't know it's just it's not good it's not good I I will say Tate looked like he's burst off the line of scrimmage was awesome there's a couple plays where I was just like if I'm just watching him as a player and how does he get off the line he was only put in motion on four of his routes which I was like come on man this is this is a do it all player in that they just didn't use him in that way so it made me feel like kind of proud of like our grandpa's like Aaron Glenn and Frank right that's that was my takeaway was like all right dude I hope I mean things probably aren't going to work for that duo but for a week one watching Aaron Glenn smile with he had the Gatorade tower on the neck I mean the vibes in New York through the roof both teams are one of no Kyle it's it's great to be in New York right now we'll see if that changes soon but yeah I thought that was funny they're like a buddy cop duo you know Glenn and right that's that's what it feels like to me hey I did see a really fun end around to Kenyan Sedeek at the goal line yeah Frank was in the back of this game Kyle he saw he saw you and old white man with no motion I mean he took notes and said watch this did you see their motion rate no is it bad it was actually good okay good let's go Frank Frank responded um the browns wide receivers so conception Boston I feel like conception did exactly what I thought he would do which is they're gonna involve in a bunch of ways yeah he did same thing somehow he did exactly what I thought he would do he did exactly what Kyle thought he would do yeah but I was like I'm not drafting him I want and I mean I'm not I'm not talking rookie drafts I'm just saying like this year it's it's not going to work there's just no possible way with Dishon Watson that it can work and I that's fine I agree with that but we would say that Dishon Watson will not be the starting quarterback for the entire season and oh he he will not but what does it work with Shadoor does it work with Dylan Gabriel I mean they're all gonna get a chance you get a chance you get we will get tailing green at some point this year which is wheels up I'm fine with that yeah that's fun um are you sure you're fine with that yeah for for DFS and week 18 oh for him yeah as a mobile quarterback sure but for your pass catchers yeah conception was in the slot 73% of time Boston was mostly outside he did catch that bomb touchdown which fun fact rookie wide receivers the last decade to catch a touchdown and see 90 plus percent of snaps in their first career game it's just the chlorine at buka and Boston so fun little factoid for somebody who had some buzz yeah just tucked that away dude but before frame it. If you need to first career game, frame the stat head, uh, you know, screenshot that I took right here. Thought I was, I thought these wide receivers did what we thought they would do. I like I'm serious. Like I need to at least say something encouraging that's non Watson related. It says these wide receivers in their first game, the roles were what we, we thought they were. Yeah. I mean, that's, it's fair. And it is the Cleveland Browns is just, it's, it's a graveyard is pure death. You're one week closer to the shaman Watson era being over. I mean, Harold Fanon. Three targets. I'm seeing 42 snaps, three targets for Harold Vana, Jr. What are you doing? No, it would be the most refreshing thing in the world is if Todd Mocken came out. He's brand new here, right? He has, he has a chance to win over the fan base and just be totally blunt honest. If he was like, the shaman Watson is not in a full quarterback right now. And he is not our long term answer. So we are not going to play him. But obviously something is coming from the top down to be like start this guy. I also thought it was wild that, you know, the reason they claim that they were starting to shone is because it was on the road. And he could handle pre snap stuff and manage the crowd on the road. There was multiple times where the play clocks winded down. They had to take a time out to avoid a penalty. They took penalties at the, at the snap. Like it's over and everybody in your city knows it. Just do the thing to whenever you're fan base. You know what I mean? Like it's just ridiculous. That's the, that is truly the hope that we have one more road game of Cleveland and you hope they're just, they're sacrificing Watson for these situations and they'll go home. You can't go into your home opener with Watson, Oh, and two as your starter. The crowd will rightfully and just defyably destroy him when they, they announce him. And then the, the kind of the last one here, I have a note on the browns. It's not wide receiver related. It's just the hilarity of Todd Monkin who we love. We love the Todd Monkin offense. But my man, you can have a bell cow running back. It's okay. They lost their past catching running back Dylan Samson who's a fine player. They're like, should we give it to Judkins? No. Raheem Sanders needs to go in there and soak up a serious amount of snaps. What is that? He's always had to run him back to Todd. It's the two running backs, but also they were just so far behind so fast. Like, like of all the games that you could have watched, at least the Titans was like close-ish. The browns you just knew is over. It was like over right away. The first interception where all the linebacker did was like take five steps back and stand there and it was like, and then he just, he didn't really move. He's put his hands up and the ball would write it into his hands. It was amazing. I also thought it was, and we can, we don't have to keep doing this because I'm, this is actually therapeutic by the way. I do like that. I, we got to get this out. I got to get this off my chest, guys. The browns were never going to win the game, of course, right? Like once the game started, it was over, basically, but it was early in the third quarter. You're down 30 points. Why are you kicking a few goal at like the 10 yard line? Like what even is the point? What are we actually even doing? It's just completely unserious to not get shut out. Come on. Which is just, that's an embarrassing, I feel like an NFL team because they do, they do this a lot where like they're just, they're getting shut out, shut out, shut out. And then they're like, well, we're just going to take a field goal here because we want to get points on the board. Losing with, they didn't lose with three because they got the bomb touchdown. But it's like, I feel like losing with that field goal, that give up field goal is far more embarrassing than a team being totally shut out. Cause it's like not only were we shut out, but then we were cowards at the end playing to lose by a fewer than to three fewer points. That was the goal. Oh, they're poor kickers. Like goes in does his job on Andre Smites. It's like his first year and he's like, he's like, cool, I did it. I did my job and everyone hates me. And these podcasters are like, what are you doing out there kicking? But yeah, stupid brands. Hey, we'll check it next to maybe that'll be, you know, browns. Well, maybe, come on. Maybe.
