Does the starting job belong to Shedeur Sanders?

What have we got going on in the chat issue? We've been living in there all morning long. There Nick, coach CJ888. Chador starts this year. If he does well, he's the franchise quarterback at a great rate to build an offense around. If he's not the one, you trade him and get the browns, they're franchise quarterback in the 2027 NFL draft. So coach J888 in the YouTube chat, rocking with kind of what we laid out there a couple of segments ago here, Darryl. >> Well, we didn't talk about using him as an asset to trade him. But I mean, for this year that you should be the guy that gets the first crack at this thing. >> The Patriots did this for years because they had Tom Brady. So they would draft quarterbacks, develop them. They'd look good in the preseason. Everyone would hype them up or whatever. And then they would flip those quarterbacks for picks. It's why Brian Hoyer, I think, resigned with a Patriots. It felt like 12 different times as he moved around the league throughout his career. But unfortunately, the browns have never been able to find themselves into a position where they can find a starting quarterback and then use their backups for assets that just has never materialized. Maybe Dylan Gabriel could be an asset. Maybe they could get themselves a seventh round pick for Dylan Gabriel. Maybe they could. >> Maybe they give her Josh Dobbs a couple of seasons ago. Was it a fifth? >> Yeah. They were able to flip him, I think, for a sixth, if I remember. But where they're at right now with this whole situation and it pains me to agree with you. >> It was a classic Andrew Barry pick swap. >> Pick swap? >> It was Joshua Dobbs and a seventh to the Arizona Cardinals for a fifth round pick. If they can use Shedore to get something in the future, I'm all for that. Because you have two avenues. You either make him your guy or he's an asset that you need to turn into something. Because I just, once you move off of him, I think you run into a situation where, that potentially could be a little bit of a thing you have to deal with. Because of his popularity, because of his notoriety, the social media following. It's unfair to use that against him. But let's be real about it. Teams used it against him during the draft process. There's no question about it. The teams used him during the draft process. He used his celebrity, if you will, against him. We can't have our backup quarterback be more popular than our starting quarterback. We can't have anything said by our backup quarterback over Shadow, the starter, right? That's just the nature of the beast, fair or not. That's what he comes with. >> That works both ways though. So if you're ready for a Shadour Sanders breakup, whether it be Midway through this season, whether it be at the end of this season, if he's not the franchise guy, you better have a great plan lined up for what comes next because of how popular Shadour Sanders is. If you break up with him and you let him out of town, somebody's going to be interested to see if they can get their hands on him as a project quarterback. This is a little bit different from Baker Mayfield though, who had a rapid fan base on his own. The Shadour fans are crazy, so if you're going to move on from him, you better make sure it's for somebody like an archmaning, somebody like a Lenore sell it, somebody that you're going to give the keys to the franchise to and really commit to and build around is your franchise guy. You better make sure you got that plan and it's concrete. Unlike some of these other plans that you've had that you've thought were good ideas and it's really just been a makeshift work and progress type plan to move off Shadour. You better be 100% sure because if he goes out somewhere else and pops like Baker has with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, people are going to be doubly mad. Yeah, you're going to look really stupid because you just had a fifth round pick, virtually no investment, virtually paying nothing. You got to make sure that you handle this situation completely correct. It's a lot of pressure for a guy that they didn't make a big investment in, but because of the popularity, they got to make sure that they ace it because I mean, put yourself in Shadour shoes after going through what he did last year, right? His dad had him hyped up as being a top five pick in the draft, which nobody in the NFL had him graded out as, but for whatever reason that narrative was allowed to just be out there, nobody would tamp it down until after the draft, after he was drafted. And then I was like, oh yeah, no one really had him as a first round pick. No one had him let alone being a top five pick, right? They had him as a second round pick or a day three pick, right? We'd hear any of that until after he was drafted conveniently. And I think that that was a little bit of a disservice that was done to Shadour, not hiring an agent to help him navigate the pre draft process. Also hurt Shadour because there were teams that just did not appreciate his approach to the process. Right. And then you have, he is drafted in the in the fifth round by the Browns who come up, you know, give the rest of their draft to the Eagles so they can come up in the fifth round, draft them on a whim here, see if there's a little something there. This is supposedly a four man quarterback competition, but at no point, and I had told you guys this is this whole thing was going on, at no point was it a four man quarterback competition? He was the fourth and throwing to the ball boys. But that was a mistake. They court, of course, it was a mistake. They handled that completely wrong. Of course, it was a mistake. But then, you know, can he pick it gets hurt? So they trade him away. They go with Joe Flacco at the start of the season. That does not go well at all. They turn the keys over to Dylan Gabriel. Now Shadour's got to get ready to become QB two. They trade Joe Flacco. And then all of a sudden, now it's time for Shadour to go in because Dylan got banged up. He has to play the second half against the Ravens. And the Browns said, hey, you know what? He was out there. We had a shot to win at the end. Okay, we're just going to, we're going to roll with him this week, see how it goes, roll with him next week, see how that goes. And then I think it was two or three starts in Kevin Stofanski, Caved and said, yeah, we're going to go with Shadour the rest of the season. It went from a week to week thing to okay, yeah, he's going to start the rest of the season. And he ended up winning three of those games. You know, you want three and four as a rookie starter with an offense that I don't know, barely looked like it was on life support at times. So you know, I am, I'm with you. They should just not hand it to Shadour. I think they should. That's where we maybe disagree. I think they should hand it to him and try to build his confidence up. What's the worst that have, the worst that happens is he's a colossal failure. So was Dishon Kaiser. So was Dishon Watson. So was 40 some other quarterbacks that came before Shadour. Don't worry. That's the harm of hand in the dude, the job today. Because he really felt like it. And you start to enlist that trust in him and that belief in him upstairs and say, yeah, dude, you could genuinely do this. You could genuinely be our franchise quarterback. Mentally, I think you don't do that. You tell him that you're going to get an honest crack at this thing. You will get the first reps, you're first in line, but you still have to earn the job. You don't want to hand it to him, but you make it very clear. What's the early job mean? Because with the other two guys in the same, my rebuttal would be, I earned the job. Dishon Watson has played 19 games since you traded for him. No one gave rules five foot nine and couldn't complete it. to pass five yards down the field if he tried his hardest. I prove to you that this is my, that'd be my, my rebuttal. I don't think Shadour Handrels himself that way, obviously, but that's the clean rebuttal that you could make. I, unless they add competition externally, unless they add Malik Willis, which I don't think either you or me want to see them do. No, you're better off, you might as well just see what Shadour can do. Why would you need to spend 20 to 25 million dollars to see if Malik Willis can do it? What, why? What, what's the point there? Because he's only 27 and you think that he could be a long time. I'm just playing Devils advocate. I don't want him to do it. Yeah. The last 27 year old quarterback they had here was Brandon Weedon when they tried to figure out if he could do it too. I, I just, I just, that turn out, I hope they don't fall in line with this twisted, probably broken belief that Malik Willis can be Sam Darnold. When Sam Darnold gave you a year worth a great tape on sample size during his time at the Minnesota bike. Well, Sam Darnold's actually played with regularity. Yeah, he bounced around a little bit, but like he actually played. Right. He played a full season with the Minnesota bike. But people will try to compare the fact that Darnold spent that year rehabbing his football career with the 49ers in Shanahan when he was Perty's backup. And the last two seasons Malik Willis has rehabbed his football career in Green Bay with the floor. I'm just telling you the gym now. I already see how this is going to play out in the arguments and the way that people are going to try to bend this thing. This just dropped from Jordan Schultz. The dolphins in two time pro bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb are going to part ways and the 29 year old's going to be a free agent. Very interesting. In two full seasons with the dolphins, Chubb had 20 sacks, eight force fumbles, 117 tackles. 29 years old is going to be a free agent. So Jeff Hathley already getting down there to Miami and shaking some things up, making some decisions. That would be nice if the Browns would make some decisions here and pick a defensive coordinator. That signals a rebuild on there. I think that's exactly what is going to. I think that's what's exactly going to happen. If we got a little bit of a fire sale going down there in Miami, could I pick up the horn and get Jalen Waddle? What's the asking price on that? A second? Again, need the Browns to make a decision. They're making decisions in Miami. And be nice if the Browns made some decisions up here in Cleveland. Pick one of these three guys, someone anyone. It should not take you 10 days to pick a defensive coordinator. Did they hire Todd Monkin with no plan B? It sure feels that way. They just assumed Jim Schwartz was going to stay. There are longer this bleeds to one thing. The longer this bleeds, they're starting to fall behind on some of these other decisions that you're seeing these other organizations like Miami start to make. That's why this is important. And that's why you're trying to speed this whole thing up. Pick a guy. Get it over with already. You've had enough time to contemplate it. There is a story that popped up over the weekend that will or should make every Guardian's fans blood boil. And I am fearful that my theory and I stress my theory might have been true.
