The Great Mac & Cheese Potluck War of the Office Hey, guys. Speaker 2 I'm Grace. Speaker 1 And I'm Ming and this might get iffy. Welcome back. Speaker 2 We're so excited to be back. I'm gonna admit right now, our last episode, we were pretty low energy. We're bringing it back. Speaker 1 And we're doing a contest. I don't know if it's a contest, but because I was so deadbeat, she was like, what if you just edit it this time? And she gave me. So I I said yes, obviously I don't back down from. Speaker 2 A. Well, what do you mean? Speaker 1 Obviously hold on but but no no, let me finish. But to taunt me this girl was like I'm going to edit my own version. Speaker 2 And I am. Speaker 1 And low key, I thought it was just going to be a tactic because you've done this before where you're like, I'm going to make my own version. Speaker 2 Oh, she's upset about the Mac and cheese. Speaker 1 Again, no, no, no, I'm not upset about it. I'm just saying, like, you have a pattern. Yeah. Where you like to say like, oh, to give you some incentive to perform better, I'm going to make my own version that's going to outperform you and then back out on the day of. So like, I didn't trust her to do that at all, so I knew that she was bluffing. Speaker 2 So OK, I think there's a lot of context. First of all, I mentioned I would make Mac and cheese once and then immediately said actually I don't have the ingredients and I'm not going to go out and buy them. So I was telling him all week that I wasn't going to make it. And then he was like, we're doing contest, we're doing. Speaker 1 Contest. Speaker 2 I'm not doing. Speaker 1 It no, no. Speaker 2 So it was not day off, it was not day. Speaker 1 Off This is a good starting intro segment. We're already arguing. Speaker 2 It was not day off. Speaker 1 So this is what happened. We had a work like Thanksgiving potluck, OK. And you're supposed to sign up for whatever dish. And I sign up for Mac and cheese 'cause this was when, like Teeny's Mac and cheese recipe was like really viral. And I really wanted to try it. And I wasn't trying to make that much for like myself. So I was like, this is perfect. You know, I bring it to a potluck. I want to try out this recipe and so I signed up for it and I was asking her at lunch one time. I was like, oh, I don't know how to keep it hot. Like I don't know how to keep it warm and like presentable at lunchtime. Speaker 2 So I suggested use a crockpot and then bring a torch because then you can melt the cheese on the top and get a nice crust on the cheese. Easy, and it'll keep it hot. Speaker 1 Yeah, and my thought to that is that's not in the recipe. There's no crockpot in this recipe. They just bake it. Speaker 2 It was not about the recipe. You were like, that's not going to work, it's going to be bad. Speaker 1 Yeah, because it won't be like a baked Mac and cheese. Speaker 2 It'll be as close as you can get while keeping it hot. Speaker 1 Yeah, So what I ended up doing was the biggest brain move of all. Show up at 11:30 with a freshly baked Mac and cheese. You know, just ditch everything before noon. Speaker 2 To be fair, not far off when you normally show up. Speaker 1 Correct. And, and to be fair, it was on a Friday and Fridays we normally have like a, a bunch of morning like meetings that like you could call into if you weren't at work. Speaker 2 Yeah, if you were. Speaker 1 We have a series of meetings. I, I took all of those like, I listened to those as I was baking like. Speaker 2 How much did you soak in of that in information? Speaker 1 I mean, normally I don't soak in all that much, like oh, my brain doesn't retain info like that unfortunately. Oh, OK. Well, 'cause if like I don't understand it, an hour of it won't make me understand more in my opinion. Speaker 2 Yeah, I guess so. Speaker 1 Especially because it's like a like a very generic sort of like meeting like for everyone instead of like one-on-one where I get to ask questions. A lot of time I like it's not meetings where I can ask. Speaker 2 Questions. So you just get bored and then you give up paying attention. Speaker 1 Yeah, I think it's part of the ADHD. Yeah, and. Our Differing Philosophies on Podcast Editing Anyways, back to the Mac and cheese. Speaker 1 Yeah, so I, my big brain baked it at home, went into the office at like 11:30. Why? When like this potluck started and then I find out as I go in. So yeah, I asked her how to do this. And then she was like, do it on a crock pot. And then she was like, all right, so to prove your point wrong, I'm gonna make the same thing as I suggested in the crock pot, and then we'll head to head see which one's better. So then that, you know, fueled my motivation, let's just say, and then just to find out. Speaker 2 Just kidding, I'm not going to do. Speaker 1 That no, she never said. That I said, she never said. Speaker 2 That Ming has selective. Speaker 1 Hearing no, she never said that the problem because I was saying this all. Speaker 2 Week that I'm actually not going to make Mac and cheese, I'm already had plans to make something else. Speaker 1 She never said that, so I was like, oh, I'm looking forward to smelling like cheese in the office every day or all day on Friday. Speaker 2 You made that joke. What are you? Speaker 1 Talking about yeah, I made that joke because I was like, oh, you're going to have that instant, Yeah. Speaker 2 You made that joke and I was like, no, I'm not making Mac and cheese. Speaker 1 No, she, she definitely. Oh, anyways, I, I come in at 11:30 with my Mac and cheese and I see her setting up and I was like, oh, where's your like entry? And she's like, oh, I didn't make it. I was like, what? Correct. The whole thing was you versus me competition. I love me a competition and you're going to back out like 30 minutes before it happens. Speaker 2 Shocking front page news woman does not make the dish she told everyone she was not going to make. Speaker 1 No, she's lying. She told me she was head to OK, All just to like, you know, gaslight me into trying harder. So I thought circling back to editing this podcast, this was her tactic the whole time to get me to edit better. But as I'm going through it, I I'm bored too. Speaker 2 See, I was worried for the editing that you were going to have sentimental value to the conversations and then not cut. Speaker 1 And I think that's exactly what happened because I I, I went through the entire thing and I only shaved off like 7 minutes. Speaker 2 Yeah, and we recorded for like an hour and 45 minutes last time. The Podcast Leaked: Workplace Anxiety Ensues Now if you want to hear my version, I think the version that gets released might be her version because she is ruthless and like likes to silence me. What? Oh wait, can we talk about that? Are you silencing me? Speaker 2 That is not because I'm mostly cut out either. Speaker 2 And then for the editing that I've done on the last episode that you've also edited, it's mostly been like, OK, I'm bored by my own conversation topic because I was really tired when. Speaker 1 We to be fair, I was bored by the 1st 30 minutes too. Yeah, but I kept most of it because I was like, I don't know how to make it flow better. And as you know, I like to do things for the plot, but this one wasn't actually even for the plot. Like word kind of got out, you know, we're we're kind of famous around our block and obviously as we like tell more and more people, more and more other people are going to find out. So that's exactly. Speaker 2 What happened? Yeah. The thing is, I wasn't telling more people about the podcast, I thought. Speaker 1 And I wasn't either listening. Speaker 2 Well. Speaker 1 It just was spread. Well anyways, so someone knew about this podcast, OK? And she asked me like, Hey, where's I got that link to that podcast? I want to listen. And I, I guess I should have checked with Grace. I I didn't realize it was like I have permission to share it or. Speaker 2 Not well, no, I mean. Speaker 1 Turns out I didn't have permission to share it. Speaker 2 But like make sure it's gonna be on the down low. Like I don't want this getting back to my. Speaker 1 Why not? Navigating Workplace Gossip and Authentic Self at Work What had happened was Friday after work, we have a company event. Let's just say A. Speaker 2 Happy hour. A happy hour. Speaker 1 To celebrate the end of the week. And, you know, we kind of brought it up last time there was a Saint Patrick's Day theme, but this week, like it was a different theme. And someone asked me like, hey, where's that link to that podcast? So I sent it without really thinking on that much because you know, like I. Speaker 2 Turned up this was at the happy. Speaker 1 Hour, yes. Speaker 2 Oh my God, there's so many people around. Speaker 1 Yeah, but anyway, so I sent her the link. I was like, oh, I have your like I only have your work phone number. Is that worse that I sent it to a work phone number? I don't. Speaker 2 Think it matters at this. Speaker 1 Point So I sent it to her the link and she saw the picture and the title of the the podcast. Speaker 2 Right. Speaker 1 Immediately turns around to tell someone who we know is a known gossiper but like we are the same. Speaker 2 Understand why you would give it. Speaker 1 But we're tight, you know, We've run in the same circle I. Speaker 2 Just think she gets excited. Speaker 1 And that's what you want from people promoting the podcast? Well. Speaker 2 Yeah, but then then it falls into the wrong hands. Speaker 1 Anyways, so I was like, oh, I don't know if like we can be circulating it this much, right? But she didn't ask me. So like, she found out about the podcast like a while ago and like she just like asked me for it and I can't. Speaker 2 And then told other people I. Speaker 1 Didn't expect that part. I didn't expect that immediate turn around. Speaker 2 That's the problem. Speaker 1 Yeah, but like, I'm not the one, like that's not my action to control, but OK. And I didn't, I didn't give the warning, but OK. So Gracie's quaking in her boots because she thinks she's going to get fired. Speaker 2 No, it's not that. It's just like I don't want to have that associated with like we do talk a little bit about work. We are Co workers, but it's not like we're actively talking about what we do. We're not actively talking about like it's more of the social side of things. I don't want this who I am on the podcast to be associated with. Speaker 1 You at work? Speaker 2 At work in terms of like, I don't know, like the corporate ladder, that type of thing. I don't want it to be associated with that. Speaker 1 No, but I think I mean I wouldn't be doing it if this is not the true authentic me, you know what I'm saying? Speaker 2 I feel like, and you know what? I don't think, OK, this might be a hot take. I don't think that people should be giving their full, true, authentic selves at work. Speaker 1 I agree. Speaker 2 Work is I'm trying to make money so I can survive and like if I have fun doing it that's fantastic but I don't need to be correct my 100% truth self. Speaker 1 No, I, I agree. And do you feel like you're, you're, is this going to affect the way you record now? Like you're not going to be 100% too authentic to yourself now that you know who has it. Speaker 2 I don't. Well, I might get a little bit self-conscious, but like, OK, I don't think it would make. I don't. Speaker 1 Think it would make yeah for me, I don't think it changes that much. We went to a local 1, not the big one in the city, and there was a lot of old ladies there and they were like, oh, we love seeing young people here. What made you come out today? And I was like, yeah, I think all the young people go to the city, but. Speaker 1 But you got places to be after. Speaker 2 To support our local communities. So we're here and they were like oh that's so cute yeah. And I was like, you're. Speaker 1 So cute. What do you think? You're like geriatric too. Speaker 2 No, I'm not at Vivian's level. I I I'm a little old lady or. Speaker 1 Sometimes, yeah, but I guess you go for a run like you go for your long runs, like that's not very old lady ish, but the other interests maybe. Speaker 2 I I put it in containers that would fit in my fridge. I have so many jalapenos. I'm so excited. I love jalapenos. Speaker 1 Good for you. Speaker 2 Yeah, I was really pleased. They asked me if I wanted the the salsa also in a giant can. I was like, you know, just the jalapenos. Please don't. Thank you. Speaker 1 It's for her sourdough. Speaker 2 Well, honestly, I'm probably gonna eat most of them, but. Speaker 1 By itself. Speaker 2 With that, well, no, like put it on some rice or, you know, put it in tacos or, you know, my way people tacos. Speaker 1 Why people tacos? Speaker 2 Yeah, I I am who I am. It's nostalgic for me. OK, OK. The McCormick seasoning packet. Speaker 1 Yeah, I don't really understand Taco seasoning, I'm not gonna lie. Speaker 2 It's really, it's kind of funny. Speaker 1 'Cause I feel like I always have all the spices of a Taco seasoning blend anyways. Speaker 2 To be fair, I don't get the packets and I just make the blend itself. Yeah, but but yeah, it's a lot of white people in the Midwest be using them packets. Let me. Speaker 1 Tell you no, I understand it's, it's easy. It is I I totally understand it's easy. Because if you're not cooking all that much, you don't have all the spices readily available. A packet's easy. Speaker 2 Yeah, but my mom has a like a whole spice cabinet. She had all the spices. Speaker 1 She just didn't want to make it. Yeah, it's fair. It's fair. Grace's Dating Life: Distance, Effort, and Catfishing OK How was your week? Oh, how was the rest of your week? Oh. Speaker 2 It was fine honestly my week was like not. Speaker 1 Not eventful. Speaker 2 Eventful at all? Kind of. Speaker 1 Yeah, I guess was my eventful. I mean, I think that was the big best event the the sharing of the podcast. Speaker 2 Yeah, actually I did have to. OK, so one thing that happened in my personal life is I had to cut it off with this guy of this being. Speaker 1 Oh, OK, OK. Speaker 2 So that was kind of interesting. We'd only been on a couple of dates. Speaker 1 And is this the one that I think it is? Speaker 2 When the girls went up to the city. Speaker 1 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It is the same guy I'm thinking of. I just was thinking of the bar crawl one. It's the same guy. Speaker 2 Yeah. So I had to cut that. Speaker 1 What happened? Is it because distance? Speaker 2 Well, he lives in a city and doesn't have a car and I'm exhausted all the time from running and work and yeah. Speaker 1 So you're just long distance even though you're maybe like 30 minutes. Speaker 2 Like I could date someone from the city if they could also come to me, and especially in the next, like, four months, a little bit more often than I go up there. Yeah. Because I'm tired. Speaker 1 You're high. What? Tired. Oh, Princess? Yeah, is tired. I keep that in there. No, I understand. I just but he didn't really make any effort. That's, I think the the more telltale sign, right? Speaker 2 Yeah, I mean, there's a lot more interesting stuff to do in the city, so I understand why he was suggesting dates in the city, but like. Speaker 1 Yeah, but I feel like. Speaker 2 He didn't. Speaker 1 He kind of have. Speaker 2 To you mentioned wanting to come down to where I live and then suggest kept suggesting city things and I was like what happened to that? Speaker 1 Yeah. So that's fair, I think. Speaker 2 Yeah. Speaker 1 Are you like, sad about it? Speaker 2 How do you feel about it? Not really. Speaker 1 You like, well 'cause you like, broke it off, so you felt like you had the closure. Speaker 2 Yeah, I well, again, we'd only been on two days. I wasn't really like head over heels or anything. Speaker 1 I thought you were like when we talked last time, like there was one time that you're like, you know, it was really good, actually. He brought me flowers. Speaker 2 It was really well, to be fair, I did feel like he catfished me a little bit. Speaker 1 Oh does he look very different in person? What do you mean? Speaker 2 Catfish I So I met him in person. Yeah, yeah. It was just like, yeah, I see. We don't have to get into. Speaker 1 No, Yeah, usually. Imagine you know what we're talking about. How old was he? Speaker 2 He was my age. Speaker 1 He's really young. Speaker 2 Yeah, The thing is like, I was kind of fine with it because I did, to be fair, stock him on online and I kind of knew OK pictures, but it was kind of hard to tell. I just like he was really nice. So I was like willing to get over it. But then the OR having to go to the city thing just kind of got to me and I was like overly exhausted the past couple weeks in particular. So I was just like, actually right now I don't think I could do this. Speaker 1 Yeah, especially last week. Yeah, as I was listening back, I'm like, wow, we had no energy.
