Weird pictures on my phone taken while I was sleeping. Hi. So I've been spending the last few weeks, the last few days at my parents because they were on their honeymoon, a couple of states away for a few days. And I offered to look after their dogs. For reference, my parents live in a pretty rural area. And the only other place where people might be is within like a mile of them as a small hunting camp. Last night, I was sitting on the recliner in the living room and I started to doze off. I caught myself about to fall asleep. So I went to my parents' bedroom, and napped there. I woke up about two hours later and realized I had left my phone in the living room. I went to go get it. And when I brought it to my bedroom, I noticed my phone was on the gallery app. And these two pictures were there. And the OP attaches a link to two pictures. And let's get into it. The first one is just mostly black, but it looks to be maybe a faint outline of like an oval in the center of the screen. And this, oh my God. And the second one, ho, that's horrifying. Oh my God. Oh my God. If you got, oh my God. Like you, that is terrifying. The second image, I have goosebumps all over me right now. This is my first time seeing this. Oh my God. This is horrifying. The second photo is of what clearly seems to be a person smiling. And it's obviously in the dark, like barely you can make out the eyes, the teeth and the cheeks smiling. This is actually, that is one of the creepiest photos I've ever seen. The OP continues and says, "Given that the first picture is a black screen, "it could have been an accidental picture I had taken, "but I did not take the second one. "When I saw it, I freaked out "because I thought it kind of looked like cheekbones "and a chin. "I ended up driving around a little bit "because I have pretty bad anxiety "until I was able to rationalize "that there's probably a normal explanation." And just hold on, like it is obviously a cheekbones and chin, like that is obviously a person. Like if I saw that on my phone after falling asleep in the living room or falling asleep in my parents' bedroom and go out and see that my phone was in the gallery app and I saw that on my phone and it wasn't me, I would take a plane ticket out of the country, dude. You would not catch me near that house ever again. Like that is seriously so terrifying. But the OP continues and says, "I have an iPhone 14. "Not sure if that's important. "So maybe there was an update "or it's an artifact or something. "The phone was a little warm when I got it." So that makes me sort of lean into the idea that it was an update or something. As I said, they are pretty rural. So at least I'm assured that nobody broke in or anything, LOL. I'm just kind of paranoid because I'm staying here for the next day or two and I'm just freaking out. "Please help put my mind at ease. "Any idea of what caused the pictures on my phone?" Bro, yeah, he can not be, like, come on. That is obviously not, you know, a glitch. That is someone took a photo on his phone, but then the OP responds and says, "Edit, since everyone is asking for a pic "with the metadata attached." And he attaches it. I'm not gonna show it 'cause I don't know if anything on metadata is sensitive, but he attaches that for proof, I guess. And he continues and says, "I was going to sleep over there last night "because I still needed to take care of the puppers, "but I ended up just going to feed them "and make sure their water was full "because I still felt incredibly anxious "about sleeping over there. "In fact, I literally had a nightmare last night, LMAO. "I haven't told my parents "because I don't wanna scare them "and they're super religious, "so they would probably be convinced "the house was haunted by a demon or something. "Thank you, everyone, for your help. "I'm feeling a lot better than I did yesterday now "that I know there are some rational explanations." And okay, I need to hear these rational explanations in the comments, but also, why would the OP leave his dogs there or his parents' dogs there? Like, if there was even a small chance that there was some psychopath that broke into my house and took pictures on my phone of him, like, I wouldn't leave my dogs there alone. I would take them with me. That's crazy he just left them. But let's get into some of the top comments. One user says, "I see faces in both pictures "and they look like they were taken in the dark "because of how bad "they are. "Pretty easy to see the general outline "of the person's face structure "if you just increase the contrast." And I agree, it's 100% someone's face. And the commenter continues and says, "That was, you can see if it looks like you or not. "To me, the person looks like a younger teenager, maybe, "person that could easily be a male or a female." Edit, just to add, there have been some artifacting issues with older phones in the past. I would check and make sure your phone is on the most current update it can handle and see if that makes the pictures disappear. If it does, that would indicate that it was a software hiccup in the phone. And someone else says, "You don't say anything about the timestamps "and any geolocation on the phones. "Were they really taken when you were also "or at some other time? "Are they from a WhatsApp? "Either way, the second one is clearly someone's face. "Surely you can see the I's and the T's, "never mind the cheekbones and the chin." And then another user says, "Is this you?" And attaches a link to a picture that, I guess, has the contrast pulled up, and you can obviously see the creepy-ass, I mean, this is so creepy, just the creepy face of whoever took the photo. And someone replies and says, "Bruh, that's the first pic I opened from this post "and I nearly passed away." And someone else replies and says, "Dude, what the actual hell? "I haven't been jumpscared like this. "I haven't seen anything like that since Smile Dog in 2010." And then the OP replies to this and says, "No, that looks absolutely nothing like me. "And now I'm just more freaked out. "I'm still thinking that it could just be "a weird-ass artifact since the right side of the face "looks so weird and it just looks distorted in general." And someone else replies to the OP and says, "To be fair, one of the most unlikely things "would be that someone came inside the place only "to find a phone, take a photo on it, and leave. "I mean, what would the point be? "To prank somebody? "If that really is the point, "it sounds like someone would have gone far out of their way "to pull that off and expose themselves "to significant risks in the process. "Like with possibly having the police called for trespassing "and for potentially facing self-defense from a homeowner. "If someone you know likes pulling off pranks "and knew your location, that's something to think about further another thing to question here is who would have access to your phone and enable them to open your gallery and camera app most people only make their gallery accessible to those who can bypass a lock screen in some way like with a passcode or face id fewer people make their camera app only accessible in that way but that can be hard for a random unknown person to access in some cases too and the op responds and says yeah i've thankfully pretty much ruled out the possibility of it being another person my parents live in a secluded area and there are deer cams set up all over the place too also the face that's in the pictures has a weird distorted right side and another user says there's definitely a smiling face in the second photo does it look even remotely similar to you from what i can tell the face has no beard visible piercings etc looks like someone young cameras can do weird things especially in the dark and smiling makes you look wildly different i sometimes accidentally open the camera app i take a lot of photos so i often do it subconsciously close it immediately and forget about it but my phone also glitches sometimes and takes random photos do you use whatsapp or snapchat i've had both saved photos automatically in my gallery if it's from an app it should be in a photo folder for that app in your photo gallery and the op responds and says no it does not look like me i have pretty crowded teeth and a slight overbite so i've always refrained from smiling with my teeth as much as i could also the ones in the picture if they are teeth look pretty straight to me also my cheekbones aren't nearly as pronounced i am a 20 year old guy so the age range fits i can try taking some pictures of me smiling in the dark to see if it fits and then the op comes back a few days later with an update and it reads as follows it says hi i decided to go over last night since i understood that the most likely scenario wasn't anything serious and i still needed to look after my parents puppers i fell asleep with my phone beside me this time lol and i woke up with more dark pictures taken in my mind i woke up with more dark pictures taken in my mind i woke up with more dark pictures taken in my mind i woke up with more dark pictures taken in my mind i woke up with more dark pictures taken in my mind in my photo gallery the app wasn't open and pictures are pitch black so there's thankfully no face in the picture so it definitely is just an issue with my phone i'll honestly most likely factory reset it just for peace of mind so i don't get jump scared like that again thank you everyone who helped and now let's get into some of the top comments one user says can we see those new pics too just to be sure and the op says sure there's nothing there though i already turned my brightness up all the way to check and the op does attach about 10 pictures although in the last one it does look like a a vase of some sort and maybe something in the middle of the screen and someone even replies to the op here and says the last one looks like it maybe has a vase in it is this similar to anything in the room and another user says op something isn't adding up in the first post there is a face in the pictures clear as day it looks to me that this face is clearly human the idea that the camera accidentally went off during the night is hard to believe the iphone 14 automatically applies long exposure camera settings when in the dark those would have had to have been turned off in all images the dog theory is highly unlikely we know that it was the front-facing camera that took at least one of the photos and this seems like the only possible way a dog could accidentally take a photo what makes this unlikely is the fact that several of the other images are clearly taken from a standing position for example in the bathroom the toilet paper can be seen given the short time frame in which these photos were taken i doubt a dog triggered the photo the face scene is likely human this is either a troll sleepwalking sleep photography more like it or someone is messing with you big time if you can please share more metadata of the photos specifically all the ones which furniture slash faces can be seen as this would help determine if the camera used changes time and date changes and as well if any of these images are altered or modified in any way and this is just so so creepy i mean what the hell is going on and in my opinion the op is being way too relaxed about this but then a few days later the op comes back with a second update and it reads as follows all right i was 100 confident that my last post would be my last i'm still almost entirely sure it's an issue with my phone but after the final update just a few hours ago one of you messaged me a link to enhanced brightened i think pictures that i had linked in the update and the op links a picture and the op labels each of these photos the first one is labeled possible hand shape and personally i don't see anything in this one and then the op uh in the second photo uh the op says possible hand slash arm shape and personally i kind of see it it kind of looks like an arm but it's super super grainy and then the third one the op labels hand slash arm shape with color and um i think that's a little bit of a stretch i can't see that personally myself and then the fourth one is labeled hand and i don't know it possibly could be a hand i don't know and then the fifth photo is titled possible head shape and i think that's a little bit of a stretch i can't see anything here and then the op says a possible head shape number six i still don't see anything and then finally the op says toilet and wall number seven and i can oh yeah now i can see that's like toilet paper and then a toilet maybe not a vase um but still just so unsettling and the op says and one of you commented with this and um it's just a brightened picture of the uh bathroom i think the op continues and says i would love to ignore it but i know for a fact if i did it would just get to my head and i would be anxious for weeks please be honest does the picture look like my bathroom wall and the op attaches a picture of the bathroom wall and yes absolutely i mean if you compare the the dark one and the bathroom like it's obvious it's just toilet paper on top of a toilet and it was taken in the dark so that means either the op sleep walking and took photos when he was you know sleeping or some psychopath is living inside his parents house taking photos on his phone um so so disturbing and now let's get into some of the top comments one of them reads please get yourself a security camera with infrared and point it at you in your phone while you sleep the first photo was obviously photos of a face and the second definitely shows your bathroom you are either trolling the subreddit have a sleepwalking issue or a squatter who is messing with you getting a security camera and posting in another update would be the best type of confirmation and the op responds and says i'm likely only going to be at my parents for one maybe two more nights because they're coming back soon thankfully i won't have to stay here anymore i'm just worried about my parents and a user replies to the op and says you need to figure it out so your parents aren't exposed to or if you are sleepwalking or having some kind of psychosis you don't end up injuring yourself if you set up a camera there you can take it to your place too and someone else says this seems like a massive under reaction to the possibility of a carbon monoxide leak or someone else living in the house and i completely agree like the op is like yeah man these these photos are kind of creepy but you know it's just photos like seriously if i woke up with pictures on my phone that i don't know how they got there and also if it looked anything like the first one the op linked of that guy smiling dude i would be out of the country i would live in a secured bunker at that point because that is the most terrifying thing i have ever seen seriously and then the op does reply and says there are no gas appliances and the house isn't that big it's not possible for someone to secretly live inside and someone else says if it's really a dark photo of your bathroom this seems extremely sleepwalking ish edit this is a goofy question but do you usually take your phone with you to scroll slash read things on the toilet when awake i feel like if it is sleepwalking it could be that you get up to pee in the middle of the night and out of habit slash instinct take your phone with you from my experience i have a tendency to do weird autopilot ish things when only half awake and the op responds and says i usually only bother to bring my phone when I'm pooping lol but given that it's a picture of my bathroom I'd say the odds of it being me bringing my phone to the bathroom while half asleep are thankfully pretty high and someone else says okay so if this is your parents home and it's all happening in the same place then I'd say there might be something up but I'm thinking that it's much more likely that it's sleepwalking and not carbon monoxide poisoning all of the photos have been at night and the dogs are apparently okay as well the bathroom definitely leads to sleepwalking as it's probably the most common nighttime destination in the house you could absolutely call the non-emergency number for the fire department and say you're unsure about your carbon monoxide levels though and ask for them to check it for you do your parents have a carbon monoxide detector in the house check and change the box batteries and see how it goes but you probably would want to call anyway the tough part is that without having cameras assuming it's not carbon monoxide and or the fd it says it's not carbon monoxide you won't know anything new unless you fall and injure yourself which no one wants I'd suggest getting cameras or when you go to sleep leave your camera taking a video and that way you can see the first time you pick it up and if anything is strange like sleepwalking I don't know iphone settings but I'm not sure if it's true or not I'm not sure if it's true or not I'm not sure but if your settings are on the same when you close the app until you open it again make sure you change your flash to on and not auto or off you might get something new instead of a no flash impossible to tell picture if you cannot or are afraid to call the fire department today before bed don't be but regardless I would suggest buying at least one camera or asking a friend to stay with you tonight best of luck stay in touch and someone else says that you should get your phone to record audio while you sleep maybe you're just sleepwalking or get a cheap webcam to set up facing you while you sleep to be sure and the op responds and says the audio recording idea actually sounds pretty effective I will look into getting it up and a final user says this is either a hoax for attention someone messing with you and adding photos to your camera roll somehow or carbon monoxide psychosis something mental in the first photos you posted there is clearly a face when the one is lightened up it's recognizable is that your face or someone else's that would answer a lot of questions and of course the op responds and says that was not my face and we have never heard from the op ever again but this entire thread is just so unsettling to me and I hate how we didn't find out what it was I mean like it already would be creepy enough if there was just random photos popping up on the op's phone right but there was clearly a face and also a deranged looking face in that first picture someone smiling someone eyes wide open and the op was like hey that's not my face and I don't know I just feel like the op was being way too relaxed throughout this whole thing but it's just so creepy I had goosebumps while reading all of these and looking through the pictures it's just so so creepy and I'm really really curious to hear what you guys have to think what are your guys theories on this because I'm at a loss I mean most likely it's probably some sort of mental issue but I don't want to completely rule out sleepwalking but I don't think it's sleepwalking if the first photo that the op shared was not a picture of him then it's like who was that that took the photo I mean if the latter is true and if someone is inside the op's house taking photos on his phone then that is the most nightmarish situation ever and honestly hopefully the op's okay and like didn't get murdered or something because we never heard from him again but um yeah what do you guys think and you know what was causing all of this I think my neighbors are conspiring to kill me can anyone hear any conversations in this audio anyone able to make it sound clearer not sure if I'm losing my mind or not lol recorded it myself been hearing my neighbor make suspicious comments no idea if I'm just paranoid or if it's legitimate I'm pretty sure someone's attempting to drill into my door as we speak guys if I don't update you you know what happened and the op added a google drive link in this post and let's give it a listen and that's I mean just very creepy it kind of does sound like there's like whispering in the background there's a few clicks throughout the audio it sounds like someone like opening a door or something could be the op knocking something but I don't know it is the op like freaking out about nothing possibly and it could just be your mind banging up things just because it's like the white audio or like the just blank audio like the white audio audio the static coming up or do you think it's whispers I don't know very very creepy and unsettling nonetheless especially considering the context of the op's post but now let's get into some of the top comments and one user says I see you have posted to r slash stims in the past if you're still on stimulants take a break for a couple of days and see if the voices go away I've had something like this happen on certain stimulants a couple of times and it seems completely real at the time edit hope you're okay op please keep us updated on your situation assuming nobody has hurt you and that you're okay and just took something take a deep breath take a shower drink some hot cocoa put on your favorite show and distract yourself and if you have access to any sort of benadryl slash nyquil it'll help calm you down and get you some good rest you'll feel a lot better when you wake up I promise you and you're not going to be randomly killed by conspiring neighbors if you get a couple of good nights of sleep and still are hearing these things contact the authorities and they will be able to help you out with your situation it's their job and you don't have to feel scared to do so if nothing else contact a loved one that you trust and inform them of what's going on and see if they can help I hope to get an be a leading um theory but then the op comes back the next day with another post and it reads as follows so yesterday I posted about someone conspiring to kill me before you I'm told to go seek mental health do not worry I already called my general practitioner they're setting me up soon here's the thing I heard pretty clear and vivid voices last night definitely felt like someone was trying to weaken my door purse so they could break in easier today I recorded some footage on my phone and amplified it in audacity see if you guys can hear anything I hear things pretty vividly myself today I heard them say they're going to throw petrol bombs through my windows and that they've bugged my room would appreciate any honest opinions and help and also thank you to everyone concerned and appreciate the messages, asking if I'm okay. I really do appreciate it. And then the OP adds audio file one and says, we'll upload more later. And the OP adds a transcript of what he thinks he hears. He says he has two kids, I think, and I think he's mad about smoking. 20 seconds in, someone says, ain't smoked a spliff in his life, ain't smoked a spliff in his life. And after 20 seconds, he's probably thinking, what the fuck is going on? At 58 seconds, I think it says his name because the OP has the transcript censored. And at one minute and 10 seconds, the OP transcripts and thinks he says, he doesn't think I will kill him. And then the OP says, that's my transcript from full volume audio edited. I'm staying with my dad, but unfortunately, he gets angry if I point out any of my psychosis to him, presuming it is that. I've called the access line waiting on a call back from the nurse. I have an appointment at three tomorrow. And then the OP adds some examples of what he has heard. And the OP thinks he's a male said, my name is going to get effed. Tell him suck his mom doing me effing head in. He's effing dead, mate. He's psychotic, mate. He think he's psychotic. Just wait till we kick his door down. When he sees the double barrel shotgun. He'll crap himself. He won't do nothing when he's got a gun aimed at him. He's going to get his teeth kicked in. He's effed himself over. He's effed it. He's effed his life up. I know he's clocked on. He knows it ain't psychosis. His dad is dead as F. Trust me, he knows. He's looking for the cameras. What's he keep looking at us for? He's going let the police know. He's crapped himself. F his mates. He's a nobody. Going to put a double barrel shotgun up his butt and shoot his insides. He pisses me off, though. He keeps ringing the police on me. Wait until I cut his butt off. And then a female voice says, if you keep talking about him, he's ringing the police. He's staring right at the cameras. He keeps staring right at the cameras. If he can hear us, we are going straight to jail. Pissing me off now. He keeps saying stuff like this. He's going to clock on. If the police know we are going to get arrested, he's still talking to his mates on his phone. He records everything and he's going to the police. Forensic will look at it and you'll go to jail. So be quiet now. Be quiet. See what I mean? He's posting it all to Reddit. And if he disappears, it'll go straight to the police. And then the OP says, I would appreciate it if someone could forward this to the UK police. If I disappear and stop updating you. And then the OP adds, shortly after, hear people outside again. And neighbor says, someone is going to firebomb my house. Best of luck again, please. Night's been rough lately. And then the OP adds a chilling update saying, this is no longer a drill. Send help. And the OP attaches. This is three videos. And we will get into those three videos now. The first video, we see the OP in what I presume is his room, filming his window. And personally, I watched through the entirety of this video and I didn't hear anything. Although the link is titled gate. And so I assume he thought he heard a gate sound. And that's why he was panicking because I assumed the gate was outside of his window. But I didn't see anything. And I'm not going to play the entire video. And it's entirely because it's like 50 seconds long. But it's playing right now as I'm talking over this and reacting to it. But the next video is titled send help. And this is about a four minute long video where I don't even know what he's videoing or taking a picture of or videoing. It looks like tinfoil maybe or like a metal, like some sort of like metal piece or tinfoil or something like that. But it's like completely dark. It's like all around of it. And I didn't hear anything through the entire four minute video. And then the third video the OP attaches is titled send help to. And it's a minute long version of basically the same thing, just like tinfoil or metal, possibly on a window or somewhere in the dark. And we hear nothing but just the scuffling of the OP moving his phone around and just truly disturbing. I mean, when the OP says this is no longer a drill, send help that just, I mean, like even watching these videos are just goosebumps because the OP thinks someone is out there. And most likely after we read through all of those, you know, conversations, the OP thought he heard it sure does seem like schizophrenia or some sort of mental health issue. But the OP comes back a few hours later with another update saying, I have spoken to a few mental health experts. I have spoken to a few mental health services now, and I'm still hearing things, still struggling deeply. And now let's get into some of the top comments. One user says, a lifelong friend of mine suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. This is almost the exact conversation we have weekly. He is constantly hearing people planning on hurting him. Talk to a professional as soon as possible. And another user says, I don't know. He says, I can hear chatter in the audio, but I can't hear any detail. The chatter doesn't have an aggressive tone, though, if that makes sense, although that's hardly conclusive. I'm going to give my honest opinion, and you should take it as just that. Some random guy's opinion, not a diagnosis or anything along those lines. This sounds like paranoia. You may be in a fragile state of mind, and your thoughts are playing tricks on you. The longer it goes on, the more paranoid you become. This may be terrible advice, but as it's statistically more likely that you are paranoid rather than your neighbors actually bugging your apartment, drilling through your door, and conspiring to petrol bomb you, I think you should consider opening the door next time you think you hear this stuff going on. You are hearing murderous voices due to a temporary mental thing. Probably means you're not getting murdered. Both scenarios. scenarios means it's worth talking to your GP. The likelihood of binge watching bad crime TV during a pandemic seems infinitely higher than people plotting to murder you in a loud talking voice. Occasionally, I do forensic video consultation and I've done one some audio enhancement, but it's time consuming. Unless you specifically clipped a specific 30 second segment, I can't put much more time into this. And someone else says, hi friend, please hear me out, okay? I don't hear anything. And believe me, I tried. I believe that your stimulants are causing your mind to play mean tricks on you. My genuine fear for you is that you will react to these fears in a way that could hurt someone around you. I don't judge you. I worry for you. I had two appointments, all of which said I wasn't even experiencing psychosis. Took being literally institutionalized before I could get meds for what at the time was minor psychosis. Very disappointed in UK mental health services to be honest. Hopefully I can change my antipsych to a less comprehensive one. I'll probably stop taking it. I have been with my husband for five years to be precise, married for two. I have known him since like the first month of our relationship that he was the man for me. He always makes me happy, smile, be intrigued with him, is there for me when I need him and all that stuff. But for a year now, he always goes with his friends drinking every Saturday and returns late, late as in 6 a.m. or even later. I always wake up as he comes home, though weirdly, he never sounds like he is drunk at all. Although I have not heard him being incredibly drunk as long as I have known him, so maybe that is just a me thing. Anyway, these friends of his always come by our house 7 p.m. sharp. I think there have been like three times or so that they haven't been here by 7 p.m. And when I mean 7 p.m. sharp, I mean not a minute later. And even when they have been later, it is at most been like five minutes only. They never address me unless I speak to them first. And the three of them always speak rather quiet instead of a more party-going spirit. It's really weird as to me, you can just get a weird vibe standing there with them. My husband is already dressed by the time they come, so they leave in like a minute or two. And then as I mentioned, my husband comes back alone at 6 a.m. or so. At times, I have asked to come along because I grew suspicious. They may be going to shady places like a strip club of some sort because my husband never sounded drunk, but also never went alone unless these friends covered for him. You see, my husband has cheated on me once, but it was in the first year of our relationship. And at the time, he claimed to be immensely depressed because a lot of his family members died that year, and he couldn't confide in me because I was a abroad for most of that year unless there was a vacation that I then spent with him because I knew it was a hard time for him. I knew that while not a good reason necessarily, people make bad decisions when they are left to grieve by their own. So after something, we both agreed to move on and forgot all about it. Until this year when he all of a sudden made these friends of his and has been spending every Saturday night with them, supposedly. When I did break under the of not knowing what he was doing, I did begin to ask things like, can I scroll through your phone for a second? Or almost interrogating him by asking what things he was doing the whole night and why he always came back so late. He always casually gave the phone to me with no problems, and I couldn't find anything even after scrolling on like five separate times. I knew I was going too far, but he somehow didn't mind and said he had nothing to hide. However, this also is where the weird stuff begins to show itself. He doesn't have any real conversations with these friends of his besides the one message saying they are coming for him on Saturday night, every week between 6 and 6.30pm. They all message him this at this 30 minute interval every week and have no conversations nor a reply from my husband back to them of any sort. I have also asked to tag along, but this has almost always been denied. And when I was allowed to come, two times, we just went to the bar and drank like he said he would. His friends still didn't talk to me unless I spoke to them first. and they barely drank anything maybe like three to five beers and that was it then at 5 30 we all went our separate ways and me and my husband would go home him also only drinking like four beers or so nothing of note happened which just makes me feel even weirder especially when my husband just casually talks to me but barely speaks to his supposed friends at all and when they do it almost feels like no energy is being put into the conversation just casual talk like he would do with a co-worker nothing like anyone else i've seen go to a bar with friends do there just isn't any excitement or fun to speak of and the times where i do get to tag along it always had to be a week in advance as well never on the day where his friends are at my door i'm telling you it is just the weirdest thing to me you and i don't know if i'm just crazy because i think something is up or there actually is something going on that i just odd to me we live in the netherlands and not in the u.s he met these new friends after having met them with his old drinking group of friends i have talked with my husband twice on what he's actually doing when he goes drinking with them all the time and i haven't gotten any important info outside of just drinking at the bar and then i'm like oh my god i'm not going to be able to do that i'm not so that was no use i searched some more until i found a navigation app that i don't remember seeing the last time i had his phone about two months ago i opened the app up and sure enough there were about 20 locations searching for along with one marked as in saved location for quick access most of the places were normal places you would go to though or places where i know he told me he would go for work or a bar i know they go to supposedly the ones that actually caught my eye were five odd ones and one of them was the marked one the four searched for ones were of random houses one to two hours away from us in really small places i didn't even know existed or barely remembered at all i have no clue why these locations were searched for or if he went there of what his business there could be if he did go so that was really odd the marked place was in the twenty minute drive give or take we have been there on multiple occasions but i don't know why he would have one marked for navigation he knows the forest pretty well because we have gone numerous times with just the two of us or with friends so i have no clue what navigation could help him in a place like that it seems to be a little outside of where the middle of that forest should be maybe i'm really anxious at this point but it didn't seem to make much sense to me anyway nothing else of use i could find on his phone so i took the phone and put it right back on his nightstand as far as i can tell he was still sleeping soundly he always was a heavy sleeper when i woke up he was gone off to work and i'm now writing this just having finished cooking for the day he will be home soon from the gym about 30 minutes i am thinking that if i still want to do more i may have to either hire a private investigator or try Probably about every two to three months he has gone out with them instead of his other friends. Though this was always on Fridays and not Saturdays. One of the guys told me that my husband told them he just didn't have time to drink with both of them and he wanted to go with his new friend group drinking more than with the old one he always went with. So nothing of importance there. They also said they didn't know the three guys as they had been with a bunch of other guys who began sitting at their table acting pretty drunk. He said it was kind of irritating but they were kind of drunk themselves at the time so they didn't mind too much. They didn't see any of the guys after that. Especially the three my husband is always drinking with now. He said he slash they would probably recognize them. Especially if my husband was with them. After that the day went as normal until Friday came along and after work I went to the marked spot that was on the navigation app of my husband. For anyone who was worried I was alone. That's titled I 24 female, my 25 male husband. has now been missing for five days going on six i didn't think i would update this again after what happened the last time i updated all of you but the worst thing that could have happened occurred my husband has now been missing for five days today marking six having been picked up by his so-called friends on thursday the 16th of february around 21 30 the three of them came by our house asking to speak with him he seemed really nervous which was already weird to me but he said he would be back shortly well it has been five days already and no one has heard or seen anything of him he just vanished last seen with his so-called friends i filed a missing persons report on saturday as i had to wait 24 hours before being able to call someone missing i also called multiple friends and his boss but he wasn't seen or heard from by them for even longer than i hadn't seen or heard anything from him so that led nowhere when he left he went into the bathroom first to take a leak and after he left and i went to brush my teeth about two hours later as he still hadn't gotten back i found his phone lying on the counter in said bathroom as i just said he still hadn't gotten back and i felt uneasy about it all for their sudden arrival on a thursday night with all three of them no less so i decided that maybe they had texted him to make amends or something like that now i know his password as he always said his phone is always available to me so unlocking it was easy the first thing i did was look at his messages if his friends did indeed text or call him and all the way on the top of the messages was an opened message with the caller id only saying anonymous but in dutch saying he would be there soon around 15 minutes before his friends got there this was obviously them on seemingly a different phone maybe not wanting it to be traced back to them and therefore it appearing as anonymous as the caller id at this point it seems clear these are not drinking buddies but more than likely people doing some kind of illegal activity or a crazy ass gay group that are so close with each other they seem to leave their entire lives behind when they are close to found out no one just up and vanishes from life saying nothing and leaving behind everything without a insanely good reason for doing so my husband has been quiet and easily irritated from sunday all the way through thursday when they came and this was just not like him at all as he always has been a positive and outgoing person around me even when something bad has happened for the most part so this makes me think that whatever was or is going on here he either regrets it immensely but was into it himself or he didn't do this on his own terms meaning he was potentially forced somehow into doing whatever they are or were doing i made a screenshot of the message on his phone and sent that to my phone it is not much but you can clearly see there is no id and it was sent around 15 minutes before they came and then the op links a picture of the screenshot and everything is in dutch and the text reads ben or zo which means be there soon and the op continues and says this along with my husband's behavior the last couple of days i have noted in his report when i went to the police and now all i can do is wait i guess doubt this was the update but i figured i would come here regardless i live in a fairly tucked away neighborhood in a moderate-sized town but in an overall rural state with not much happening here the neighborhood is located in such a way that in order to really get to it you have to turn off a main road then drive down to the dead end of a street and make a turn into the neighborhood because of the setup very rarely does anyone ever see unfamiliar vehicles since if someone is lost or needs to turn around going into the neighborhood is an extra and unnecessary step i first noticed this over this past summer i had donated bone marrow and was recovering from the surgery in july it was much more painful than i had been expecting and even with the pain medication i still slept atrociously one night i was up around 2 30 a.m watching tv in bed when i noticed a sedan style car pulling up to the neighbor's house directly across the street only they didn't actually pull into the driveway they just stopped there for about five minutes then drove off however in order to leave the neighborhood you would have to go to the end of it and drive around the cul-de-sac and then leave you would have to go to the end of it and drive around the cul-de-sac and then leave at first i thought someone was lost or dropping someone off although that would be truly out of the ordinary for this area and for this time but didn't think much about it but then i started noticing it happening more and more i mean i'm definitely not up to 2 30 a.m every day but even after healing from surgery my sleep has always been a mess so when i do i stay up and will have my bedroom light on my bedroom has a wall of massive windows facing directly toward the street slash neighbor's house and at night with my light on if someone looked in they would absolutely be able to see me realizing how creepy that is anyway because of that there have been multiple nights where i have been up and had my lights on and just in my room when that same car will pull up to the neighbor's driveway stop and then i'll be able to get out of the car and i'll be able to get out of the car and i'll stop then drive to the end of the neighborhood and just turn around well tonight or this morning i guess like clockwork the car showed up and stupidly i walked over to my window and looked out with my light on i was clearly visible staring out and to my absolute horror the car must have seen me because it drove straight into my driveway i was absolutely terrified and it just sat in my driveway running with the lights on nobody got out nobody said anything and then the car turned off and everything went dark by this point i had my bedroom light off and had pulled up the doorbell app i had to look and see if i could see anything and some guy wearing a balaclava walked up to my steps and was staring at the door he didn't do anything at all just stood there and looked around slash stared and then left then the car turned back on and left the neighborhood at least i'm assuming i have no idea what is going on in this neighborhood the neighbors across the street from me are an incredibly nice young couple and i have no idea what this car slash people could be are doing also terrified someone's now going to be in my neighborhood and i'm not sure what's going on in this neighborhood i'm not sure if they're going to break in and kill me at some point lol but what could be going on i called the police but of course basically told me it was probably probably just someone lost and since they just walked up to my front door and then left pulling into my driveway so i showed him the door footage of the guy in the balaclava and he about had a full-blown panic attack i guess he and his partner slash husband not entirely sure what they consider themselves had previously lived in texas and had been in an uncomfortable living situation and while he couldn't be 100 positive he said the body stature frame and general physique looked like the guy they had been living with then i told him it had been going on for a few months that it wasn't just this one occurrence he got really quiet and asked me if i could send him the footage so i did and he then basically thanked me for telling him that i was not going to be close the door not really sure what could have happened in a living situation to make someone from texas come all the way up here to just follow someone nor why the person would just sit for a few minutes in front of the house in the early morning hours but he clearly did not want to offer up an explanation and i didn't really have time to ask any questions but either way now i don't really know what to do from here just leave it alone and hope that balaclava guy doesn't at least come back to my house and then to your neighbor's house and just say for my own safety could you just give me some details because your neighbor clearly knows something and you are completely left in the dust is this person a dangerous person they need to give you a little bit of detail considering how uncomfortable you feel now in your own home also they wouldn't know anything if you didn't approach them about the situation so it's the least they could do and then the op responds and says i've spent all day thinking about this and how i'm going to do it i agreed that i deserve at least some idea maybe not all the details but who this person is and whether i need to be worried about them i've spent the weekend putting up cameras and lights and alarms the car didn't show up last night i think i scared them off although they equally scared me and unfortunately we have never heard an update from the op this was posted about three weeks ago and so is it possible things are still going on and the op hasn't updated us yes but for now it is unsolved and extremely extremely disturbing i mean for this guy to be so brazen to just pull up to the op's driveway get out walk up to the door and stand confidently in front of a camera that's concerning i mean obviously this is very unsettling and scary and the person you know seems like a threat like no normal person would do that and so i really hope that the op and also the neighbors are okay like i wonder how the neighbors are in relation to this guy how they know him and what happened in texas with this random guy i don't know but i'm super curious to attempts to get answers yesterday i found messages in my spam folder on facebook messenger from one of my dad's friends concerned about him she sent the first message on june 8th then june 10th she and her brother went with the police to do a welfare check once i found these messages i immediately tried to call the number she left but saw on her facebook that she died on june 13th through my investigation i found that she was found unresponsive by the same brother that visited my dad's home when she went with the police on june 10th they found that his car door was wide open key in the ignition battery dead his front door was unlocked and he and his dog were nowhere to be found police went again yesterday after i called they had to cut the lock to his gate and they found the same scene it's a remote property and he let it get really grown over a search is happening today this just seems really weird to me but maybe i'm trying to make sense of nothing my dad has been missing it since june 1st i don't really know the kind of company he kept either just hoping to get some more brain power to help me churn on this and then the op makes a quick edit to the post saying yesterday i went up and spent the day at my dad's property with search and rescue teams they brought dogs out and searched for hours but came up with nothing the lead investigator took his laptop and cell phone and is working on getting into his bank accounts last recorded activity for my dad is officially may 30th they reported him as missing and if no leads come from what they've got then it'll be transferred to missing persons in a couple of days i'm not as concerned about the brother anymore i found out that the woman and my dad met on a dating app he was apparently very popular with the ladies on there and they had a bit of a tumultuous relationship as it goes when dating several people at once i imagine she was in poor health and i confirmed that from her voicemail i heard from her where she sounded terrible she apparently died from pneumonia my dad had some angry voicemails from his girlfriends one in particular was super angry and followed up with another voicemail about how her new boyfriend didn't want her hanging out around my dad that's my new top interest my dad is 58 and then the op makes a quick edit to the post saying another update saying the police are still scanning his laptop and cell phone so no updates there his latest bank account activity was may 27th apparently the police didn't even listen to his voicemails on his house phone or his main phone so i went back to record those and to drop off a key to the investigator i'm reaching out to a lawyer soon because i don't really know how i'm supposed to maintain his property i did talk to the brother that went on the first welfare check with the now dead woman. He was very willing to talk with me. Someone wrote back to me from the deceased woman's account and warned me to be careful with him about the brother. I said I was sorry for her loss, and she told me that the woman had a lot of people fooled. I got her number and need to follow up on that. Seems like a mess, and I know my dad recently purchased vehicles from that family too. Currently, I'm trying to figure out who I can trust in this crappy town. Everyone keeps warning me that nobody can be trusted, and it's left me feeling paranoid and alone. So I'm trying to balance getting the word out and also protecting this property. I really appreciate everyone's advice and support. I'm surprised at how wonderful you all are. And then the OP comes back with another quick update saying, No real updates. I have been frustrated at the county's lack of follow up on the two viable leads. His latest love interest and the guy who went on a welfare check. I'm not sure if he's still in the same state as I am, but I'm sure he's still in the same state as I am. I blew them up about this Monday, and they hung up on me. And I called the supervisor back, who invited me down to come sit with them. They basically sat me down to say that based on his medical history, they think he probably just walked off and fainted. It's not illegal to just walk off. I continued to mention the mysteriousness around how his car and home were damaged. They mentioned all the hogs and bears up near his land. They also mentioned how busy they are with cases that actually have bodies. Very tasteful fellas. They are also hypothesizing that when his dog died, that was his last straw. Still doesn't explain where his body is. Seems like they're trying to construct the depressed man walks off story. Not the man using dating apps disappears story. Still have yet to get an attorney or private investigator. It's on the list. Everyone is really good at telling me what I ought to do. Meanwhile, I'm just wishing I could call dad and talk with him about how crazy his effing town and his friends are. Someone says, I hate to say this, but was your dad suffering from any mental health problems? Even if there were none you were aware of, was there? Anything that stuck out as out of character in the last few interactions with him? And someone else replies and says, is there a detective assigned to the case? If so, maybe you and the detective can talk to the brother together. How far away is your dad's place? Is it within your power to get there and take an active hand in the investigation? I know that if law enforcement sees that someone is actively engaged in the investigative process, that someone cares, they will be more motivated to go the extra mile in the search. If you can't get there personally, I would advise you to stay inactive and regular contact with whomever owns the desk your dad's case file is on. This must be bringing up a lot of difficult emotions and thoughts for you. And you should be sure to give yourself the level of care and attention that you yourself need. If you break down, you won't be in any position to help your dad or yourself. It's like they say on the airplane, put your oxygen mask on first, then help those around you. If you're out of commission, then those around you are just in that much worse of a predicament. Talk to someone you trust and who cares for you about what's happening. You don't have to ask them for help or anything. Just tell someone so that you're not stuck alone in your own head with these events. If you're suffering, they will support you. And if you're stuck in a rut, or can't see the forest for the trees, they may be able to shake up your perspective in a way that'll keep your headed in the right direction of progress and not stagnation. Hang tough. And another user says, Talk to the guy you have the number for and find out what he knows about your dad. Find out why his friend died. Could she have died of a drug OD? S-word? I'm sorry you are going through this. And someone else says, "Brother is the number one suspect. Take photos of him to hardware stores nearby. Ask the cashiers and then the boss if you can see the CCTV. Search near brother's property or other known desolate rural areas. Ask detective to access dad's credit card usage." And then the OP comes back a few days later with an update that reads, "Well, I just wanted to thank all of you for the support on my last post. Unfortunately, my dad and the dog is still missing." Technically, his last activity was on May 28th where he was active on Facebook Messenger. The police still have his phone, laptop, and wallet. In fact, they have been logging onto his Facebook account and really confusing his friends, who then believed he was back online. The most interesting update has been with the owners of the neighboring land. Dad would have them brush hogging on the property, but they don't have the money to buy the property and they don't have the money to buy the property. And the owner of the property doesn't have the money to buy the property. And he actually didn't have running water for a couple of weeks. Still doesn't. And his thinking was that they hit a water line when they were doing some work. Last, myself and my uncle talked to him. He was trying to get them up to repair it. But it didn't seem to be going too well. So he has several jugs of water in his shop and was showering at a friend's place. Would be a miserable way to live. I reached out to them for more information. Also regarding his neighbors, the husband came by to meet me on July 2 when they did see the second welfare check and search his land. He told me that he was friends with all of the police if they needed any help getting information from them as he owns a lot of acreage in the county. Red flag number one. He also told me that he had recently killed a bear that supposedly charged him. Yeah, right. And had apparently dug a grave with a backhoe to burn. The police know about this and have used it to try to convince me about the possibility that an animal hurt my dad. Most recently, however, the wife of this neighbor has recently reached out to me about renting out one of the properties of his land. Dad wasn't living there and it's a really beautiful home. They had wanted to buy it from him for several months, but he always said he would move up there after his daughter died. The dog died. She was old and smelly. He also had another family interested in buying the home, but he was very protective of it and wanted to keep it for himself and for me. How fortuitous for them that now that my dad is out of the picture. Red flag number three. The wife has been corresponding with me on Facebook Messenger and has offered to get me in contact with her attorney. No thanks. And she also wants first dibs on buying the land once that is an option. This was a huge shock when I originally received the message. On one hand, it's fortunate that I could maybe have tenants keeping an eye on his land and living in that beautiful home. The rent income could be used to pay his property tax, among other things, and it does make sense that they would want to buy the neighboring land. On the other hand, that is a motive if I have ever seen one. Dad was stubborn and wouldn't give up the land to anyone. And now, he's out of the picture. This family has been really helpful and kind, but it just feels sketchy. I have acquired an attorney from a different county because my relationship with the police has turned very tumultuous. I have been frustrated at the pace of everything and have been very vocal about my disappointment. I have begged for access to his phone and laptop so I can follow up on the leads, but that is an absolute no. They have apparently met with the state police. I have been in touch with the police and the FBI, but I have not heard any updates. In fact, the county police asked my uncle, dad's half-brother, if he would be their contact person because I'm so difficult, to which he refused and insisted I remain the contact person. Thanks, Unc. They are extremely dismissive and constantly talk over me, and every call I have with them is a conference call with at least four people on their side. Very frustrating, to say the least. They printed me a flyer of his missing person case, but I haven't been able to find it on any databases myself. They said this is because I'm a civilian, and it's a long process. Whatever. My attorney is thinking through the possibility of renting and also contacting the police about the bear grave. His angle is to see the bear's stomach contents. Smart, I thought, without being too accusatory. I have been getting a lot of questions about an update, and thought it was time to put a post one. Let me know what you guys think. Most of my friends have been avoiding the subject like it's the plague, and it has left me feeling a little bit isolated. Someone says they need to look into that backhoe and grave situation ASAP. And someone else says, yeah. Yeah. That, oh, by the way, I dug a grave for a bear I killed is super sketchy. So sorry that your family is suffering through something like this. And someone else says, him telling you he knows the police, and if you need anything to go through him, that sounds like he's trying to control the flow of information, and that is manipulative as hell. I've often read that people who are complicit in crimes like murder will show up to the crime scene, pass out flyers, help with searches, etc., as a way to keep an eye on the investigation like a game of chess so they can plot their next move. That admission about killing a bear is unsettling, and sort of seems like giving an answer to a question no one asked. This is the best lead. I hope they are following up and just not sharing any developments with you to protect their community. I'll say this. I am a digital forensic major in college, and we have been taught that police departments have very little resources for computer forensics, especially in small towns, so they may not be able to follow up on the computer stuff outside of logging into the Facebook account. I'm literally in school because I want to help people like your dad. This really breaks my heart. And then the OP comes back a few weeks later with a final update, and it reads, about a week ago, I got a Facebook message from the neighbor's wife that a work crew had just found some human remains doing some work about a mile from my dad's. The sheriff and investigators went to retrieve it and called me later that day to let me know that they are sending it to the lab to compare with my DNA. Honestly, I wasn't expecting quick results, but I just got the call that these remains match my DNA. And are thus 99.99% my father. A complete testing report will be sent to me when it's done. I don't really know what to say. I just had a lot of support from this sub at the time, so I was feeling so overwhelmed, confused, and untrusting. So, I owed you all an update. Part of me is grateful that I won't have to maintain his 31 acres for another three years. But part of me is just sad that my dad spent his father's time in the lab, and I don't want to spend the final moments without me. I guess this is some closure in some ways. Not sure if my questions about what happened to him will ever be answered. Thanks for reading and caring about me and my dad. You folks really offered me some light during this time. OP's dad's remains were a mile away from dad's address, and nothing about cause of death? Very strange. And someone else says, What happened to the dog? And it seems like we will never know, because the OP's account has since been deleted, but it is just a heartbreaking thread all around. I mean, the OP was just wondering what happened to their dad, thought they just disappeared, but it ends up they were possibly killed, allegedly killed, but we don't know, and it's unsolved on what happened to the OP's dad, and also the OP's dad's dog. I came across some IDs, increased the surface area of digging, and found more stuff of the same person. The house is along a state highway. Been living here for a long time. My initial reasons for freaking out. Had seen way too much law and order. The person's address is like five hours from where I live. Checked Facebook. Took a long time. The name's really common. Think I found the page but has been inactive for four years but most people don't use Facebook nowadays. Thought of four different ways this could have ended up here. I cleaned up the ids a bit most were falling apart tried calling the jewelry store from the authenticity card the number was landline it was disconnected found a store name from a merchant card found it on google called the contact us number a woman picked up i asked for the name on the id she says he is not here at the moment i got his contact number called them directly told him i have your ids told them I have your IDs, like I found them here and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He says his wallet been lost while on a rickshaw trip three years ago and five hours from where I live. He thanked me for finding it and he took duplicates of the IDs. He is going to come and pick up the remains. He is very alive and doing good. Dumb me jumping to conclusions lol. Told him I thought he was killed and dumped in my yard. We had a laugh. The end. And then the OP adds in the comments saying the four different ways I thought of. Number one, my yard was a serial killer's dumping ground I bought the place from a relative of the real owner. He had died of old age. The old man was a bit of a loner. Never married or had any kids. Two, someone got caught up into something so had to dispose of his identity. Three, a thief dumped these after taking the money from stolen wallets. Four, some real good fake IDs. And let's get into the top comments.
