Disturbing New Details EXPOSED in ‘The People’s Court’ Murder

A 15-year-old cold case involving Michelle Parker’s disappearance has been reignited after authorities arrested Dale Smith Jr. based on newly re-examined evidence. The case, which began in 2011 when Michelle vanished on the same day as a televised People’s Court episode, now centers on digital data—including text messages, cell phone location records, and vehicle searches—that contradict Smith’s account. Text messages reveal a pattern of abuse, threats, and emotional manipulation, while cell phone data shows Michelle remained in Dale’s neighborhood for over an hour, far beyond the claim that she dropped off her twins and left. Investigators also found inconsistencies in Smith’s alibi, phone movement, and statements, including a suspicious call about towing her Hummer and claims of coaching his family on how to speak to investigators. A key piece of evidence is that Smith allegedly deleted Michelle’s messages on the day she disappeared, and her phone was later found in a lake. Witnesses, including her son and twins, describe a toxic relationship marked by anger and control. Though Smith’s attorney argues the evidence lacks proof of premeditation or intent to kill, prosecutors believe the timeline and behavior point strongly to his involvement. Michelle’s family, long seeking answers, believes she was a loving, kind person, and the public release of this evidence reflects a long-overdue pursuit of justice. Smith is currently jailed in Orange County, denied bond, and the investigation continues.

We're diving into this new evidence that police say they re-examined with new technology 15 years later, leading them to believe they have cracked this case and finally caught Michelle's killer. We're on the case, presented by Law & Crime. I'm Chris Stewart. The story of Michelle Parker has been a mystery for 15 years. And prosecutors believe they have finally cracked this case. I just went through the newly unsealed 46-page affidavit, and there is a lot of information there that lays out the timeline that investigators are going with. I want to note that what you're about to see, prosecutors did not want this in the public eye for now. As they say, their investigation is continuing and they're still interviewing witnesses. But a judge decided it was time to make this document public. Now, this document details text messages. And cell phone location data that police say contradict Dale Smith Jr.'s account of what happened after Michelle Parker disappeared. And these text messages also lay out a disturbing pattern, allegedly, of what this relationship was like that police say could be a motive for murder. So, in June of this year, Orlando police say there was a new detective that was put on this case to review data and review evidence. Michelle Parker has been. Legally dead for more than a year. That declaration came in 2015, but her body has never been found. And no one had been arrested in connection to her death since Dale Smith was arrested on October 14th of this year. Now, before I show you those new text messages, I want to get you caught up to speed on this story. So, Michelle Parker, she lived in Orlando, Florida. And she was in this relationship. And it's one, frankly, and you'll see it, it was a toxic relationship with this man, Dale Smith. They were on again, off again for years. Witnesses say that Dale was abusive to Michelle, both emotionally and physically. And he reportedly had a temper. Police also note in the affidavit that in 2001, he was found guilty of domestic violence with another woman when he was in the military. Then, about five years later, in 2006, he starts dating Michelle Parker. Now, they ended up having twins together. And there were the good times, there were the bad times. And during one of the good periods. In 2010, Dale proposed to Michelle. But that engagement was short-lived. They got into a fight at a hotel. And Dale said that Michelle threw the $5,000 engagement ring that he bought her. And that ring was never found. It was lost. And that's how this couple ended up on an episode of The People's Court. He's pretty hot tempered. Like, that's not normal behavior, to throw a drink in someone's face, to have that kind of fight. No, but he gets pretty malicious and vindictive. And he's a mean person, especially when he's. He's been drinking. Any of the problems that we've ever had, it's always been alcohol-related. That episode aired on November 17th, 2011. It's still publicly available on YouTube. And November 17th, 2011, is the last day that Michelle Parker was seen alive by anyone. The last person to see her was Dale Smith Jr. Surveillance cameras caught her dropping off her twins at Dale's apartment. She dropped the twins off and, I mean, the speculation. In my mind, is that he tried to see if she would come around and give in. And she said, no, I'm done. And his narcissistic, controlling personality said, well, if I can't have you, nobody will. And took her out of the picture. I spoke to Michelle's dad and stepmom. And you think of a couple who have been waiting a long time for answers in this case as to what happened to their daughter. And police believe they have that answer. We'll see how this plays out in court. They say that this couple ended up on the people's court because Dale was taking their daughter to court. And she couldn't afford a lawyer. And the people's court, as a TV show, they would pay for everything for this situation to be settled. And that's how she ended up on the show, putting everything on public display. Well, again, people's court was the definite finalization. I mean, there she is there, right in the public view, being filmed in episodes. And you can still see it. You can Google it. And for the rest of your life, the embarrassment of that, you're like, you know, people, even the judge said, why do you guys still go back and forth with each other? You know, and then Michelle said, I'm done. So, you know, at the end of the day, she couldn't be swayed anymore. Not only is it noteworthy that the two were on this national TV show, but the episode does provide potential evidence into the issues in this relationship. Because on the show, Michelle talks about how Dale was. Allegedly a cheater. And she also talks about how he was allegedly abusive. So Parker goes missing on November 17th, the same day the episode airs. Authorities have not been able to find her body, but they did find two very important pieces of evidence in the days that followed. Her cell phone that was found in a lake and her Hummer. The SUV was found outside an Orlando apartment building that her family says they she had no connection to. The cell phone is very key. In this case now in 2026, and we'll get to some of these new text messages in a moment. But one of the new pieces of information we have is that police say several messages were deleted from Michelle Parker's phone on the day she went missing. And I'll get into the timeline here. They say all the messages on her phone, all the threats up until 427 in the afternoon on the day she went missing were deleted. Then all the messages that came after that time. Were still on her phone. Police are alleging that Dale Smith deleted Parker's messages. Then they allege he threw her phone in a lake. But then the phone was still receiving messages after that happened. Now, that's just one of the new pieces of information that we have here. It's important to note that this arrest was not completely out of the blue. Police have been public saying that Dale Smith Jr. Was a suspect in Michelle's murder for years. They announced it in 2011 years later. Michelle's family actually sued him for wrongful death. But that lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed in 2020. Yet, that civil effort may play a big role in why Smith was arrested and what this case looks like going forward. Now, Smith took custody after Michelle vanished of their twins, two boys. They were three years old at the time. And Dale's stepmom and dad tell me that they have not seen those boys since their daughter went missing. They allege that Dale Smith would not let them see the boys. So, I want to go over some of this newly unsealed information that we have in the affidavit. Police say on November 17th, the 911 call came in from Michelle's sister about her disappearance. It was 1017 at night. Police say that Michelle went to drop off her twins at Dale's house at this Orlando apartment complex. It's in a gated neighborhood, as many are in central Florida. The real cost of a break-in isn't your valuables. It's the feeling that you're holding. Home stopped being safe. SimpliSafe keeps danger away from your family with three layers of protection. And Michelle's mom says the last time she spoke to Dale, was at 9 p.m. that night, so a little bit more than an hour before the 911 call was made. And she said that Dale told her that Michelle dropped off the kids around 4, and that's all he knew. Police then went to talk to Dale Smith Jr. And he allegedly told them that he and Michelle, quote, don't talk anymore. And the only interactions they have are when Michelle drops her kids off. Now, police were also looking for Michelle's 2008 Hummer. Michelle had this big, sticker on the back that advertised for tanning. business. The next day that Hummer was found just about a half hour away from Dale Smith's home and inside the Hummer police say they found Michelle Parker's purse and inside of it were her credit cards or debit cards or checkbooks. On top of that police found some items that family members say just do not align with how Michelle kept her vehicle. They say there was mud on the driver's side of the Hummer and Michelle's mom allegedly pointed out that the mud didn't come from her driveway because she's got white sand on her driveway. Now this is a picture in the affidavit of the front seat of the Hummer. Michelle's mom told investigators her daughter didn't smoke yet it appeared that there was some kind of like ash like material on the front seat. Michelle's family also said she was the kind of person that always kept her car meticulously clean. You have the door handle on the driver's side that also looked like it was caked in mud police say which again didn't line up with what family members say they know. Michelle to be like police say that data from OnStar also showed the Hummer was going to the area where it was found around 9 p.m. on November 17th. Police allege that Smith could have walked back from where he allegedly dropped the car because his dad only lived three and a half miles away from that apartment building and they say the timeline of that could align when Smith started using his cell phone. Again because there was a period of time we'll get into when his phone remained still and it wasn't moving. Now police brought Dale Smith in and this is what they say happened. Police say Dale told them the last time he saw Michelle was when she dropped the twins off around four o'clock in the afternoon. She didn't stay long she left and he left right after he said just about a minute after she left he got in his car a red Ford truck and he drove to his dad's house and he said he was at his dad's house until about 9 45 that night. He claims that's his alibi and he said he only left though to drive an hour with his dad to a warehouse where they needed some roofing supplies for work. Now police they seem to have been suspicious as I said they named him a suspect they were suspicious of this guy from the very beginning in 2011 and this is a paragraph that's in the affidavit quote when asked how he traveled home the night prior he stated his route was straight home down Rose Boulevard took a right on Orange Blossom Trail a left at the Amoco down to Oak Ridge Road down to Sand Lake Road then take a left then home that way. The suspect then stated he sometimes takes the toll road depending on the time. The detective then asked if he took the toll road last night and he stated he did on the way home. This was an odd response by the suspect he was asked how he traveled home proceeded to give one answer then ended with a different route. As the answer so you can see the story right there just did not appear to be adding up for law enforcement. Police say that Dale Smith Jr. also brought up the appearance on the people's court. He suggested that Michelle might have been embarrassed by what played out on national TV. That episode aired at two o'clock in the afternoon just a couple hours before Michelle allegedly arrived at Dale's house. Quote both the raw footage and the aired footage were not flattering to either the victim police right. Police also noticed some marks on Dale's body. Now they did include images in the affidavit but the one that they released it seems to be photocopied so they're black and white so bear with us on that but police say they believe that these are defensive wounds like the scratches they say are near Dale's mouth and this is a picture they say of his left forearm and wrist and police say there's a scratch there and then you have a pic of Dale's back that allegedly shows his elbows with abrasions according to the police. The police say that it doesn't appear that detectives in 2011 though they took these pictures they didn't ask where the scratches came from. Now Dale ended the interview saying he hopes Michelle comes home because quote his kids need their mom. Now it appears a lot of the new evidence in this case was re-examined by police and it again centers around the cell phone data because police say in 2011 they looked at cell tower records for Michelle's cell phone and that shows that she was in the area of Dale's home starting around 3 15 on November 17th which is about 45 minutes before Dale claimed she arrived to drop off the twins. There's surveillance footage from a neighbor that allegedly shows Michelle's Hummer arriving around 3 18 in the afternoon. Now Dale told police that Michelle only swung by to drop off the twins she did that then she hit the road but the cell phone data allegedly showed that she was in the area of Dale's apartment for more than an hour. Now on top of that it just doesn't line up with what Dale appears to have been telling law enforcement back in 2011 and police compared that visit using cell phone data to her previous visits and you can see looking at this that typically she showed up dropped off the kids and left but in this case it is very bizarre that she allegedly stayed for more hours. than an hour so one hour after she allegedly arrives at Dale's house the cell phone then appears to go west seven miles police say and it stops between 508 and 8 46 p.m and at that point police say it appears the cell phone was turned off. Police say Michelle's last interaction with her cell phone that cell phone that stopped moving at 8 46 was made to her brother. At 4 26 p.m. her brother texted Michelle asking where she was and her cell phone responds Waterford now anybody knows Orlando like Waterford Lakes it was a it's a popular like shopping center area so it would make sense that Michelle would be there except her cell phone police say was 11 miles west of that area and she never went in that area in that direction. police say as they looked at cell phone records after she arrived at Dale Smith's apartment now police say quote later in the investigation it would be discovered that Michelle asked Dale to go to lunch in Waterford that day around 12 30 p.m. so that's Michelle's cell phone let's talk about Dale's because police allege that it moved in the same direction as Michelle's phone at a very suspicious time which goes against what he told us. police say that Dale called his dad around 4 20 p.m. on November 17 and cell phone tower data shows Dale driving west he got to his parents house they say at 4 44 in the afternoon and at that time he called his dad again now Dale told investigators that he had to go to a warehouse with his dad who take an hour round trip but police allege that Dale's cell phone never left the home Dale returned to his home just after 10 that night. according to cell phone data now police say that Dale's phone didn't move between shipping billing admin payroll marketing you're managing all the things so why waste time sending important documents the old fashioned way mail and ship when you want how you want with stamps.com print postage on demand 24 7 and schedule pickups from your office or home save up to 90% with automated rate shopping that's why over 1 million small businesses trust stamps.com go to stamps.com and use code podcast to try stamps.com risk-free for 60 days this holiday all plans even unlimited are just $15 a month a holiday deal this good obviously deserves an enormously expensive holiday song like all I want right okay we can afford that you don't forget the music budget we're gonna stick with whatever's in the public domain give it a try at mint mobile.com slash switch upfront payment of $45 for three months $90 for six months or $180 for 12 month plan required $15 per month equivalent taxes and fees extra new customers customer offer for initial plan term only greater than 50 gigabytes may slow when network is busy see terms 445 and 945 p.m. and his dad's cell phone didn't move either police also say at 318 p.m. Dale's phone and Michelle's phone travel west together until they get to an area called bell aisle and they say after that when those cell phones get to the location Dale's phone continues on to his parents house and Michelle's phone stays in that same area Lake Conway and that is where divers would later recover her cell phone now that isn't the only cell phone data that we're learning about because police write that from November 25th to December 17th of 2011 they had a wiretap monitoring Dale's calls police write that on November 24th he called someone who worked for the towing company the city of Orlando uses to move vehicles that police need to process and authorities say that the towing company had Michelle's Hummer and the employee allegedly told Smith quote I don't know if they even process the bleeping car yet last Sunday when I checked like I told you I would it was still locked up on December 6th police say that Dale Smith Jr. also had a call with someone where he said that he was upset that Michelle's family was raising money but not sending him any of the money for the kids he also said that that he had nothing to do with what happened to Michelle, but he didn't go into much more detail than that. He also claimed his alibi was that he was at his dad's house and they went to a warehouse. But he said the guy who was at the warehouse, who was a witness who police interviewed, he didn't see Dale Smith Jr. get out of the car, only his dad. Smith allegedly says, quote, he saw my dad there, so I was there, end quote. Now, Dale's dad told police that his son drove his red Ford truck to bring the twins to his house. They then drove that truck to a storage unit. He said that they were there from 5.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. And he said his son was then at his house until about 9.00 p.m. that night. Police are now alleging there is no evidence of that red pickup truck being seen on video at the time that Dale alleged he was driving it. Dale's dad also is playing a pretty interesting role in this because police have alleged that even though his phone didn't move, there are gaps in time where he may have taken his son. That's what police are alleging. Dale's dad is not facing any charges. Now, these are the calls that came in and went out from his cell phone. Now, on that same day, we're on December 6th, 2011. So, little less than a month after Michelle Parker was last seen. And Smith has a call with his dad on December 6th, and this is one that investigators are listening into. If you're guilty of loving true crime this Halloween, we've got a treat for you. Get 20% off plus free shipping with code TRUECRIMETREAT. Killer merch. Questionable obsessions. Truecrimegoods.com. Police alleged that their phone call was about what they would say to police. And Dale Smith's dad says something along the lines of, they're not lying. Also on that day, police alleged that Dale had a call with his mom where he allegedly, and this is from police, we haven't heard this phone call, where he allegedly coached her on what to say when she would speak to investigators, pointing out what he said was tactics investigators use to get information. With that said, because all of that is incredibly suspicious on the surface. Police also note, though, in the interviews with Dale Smith's parents, they didn't uncover anything particularly damning against Smith. Now, the affidavit also includes interviews that took place this year. And that includes with Michelle Parker's son. Now, we're not talking about the twins. One of the twins, though, did have an interaction with police shortly before Dale Smith was arrested. And we're going to talk about that here. But Michelle Parker had a son who was 10 years old at the time that his mom went missing. In this interview, police say it took place in April of this year. And Michelle Parker's son said that he did live with Michelle, Dale, and the boys, the twins, for a period of time. Said Dale was known to get angry. And he also said that once Michelle and Dale separated, they were pretty quick when it came to the exchanges of custody of the twins. Not for more than an hour, like police alleged on the day that Michelle disappeared. And on top of that, he also said that one of the twins he heard say thinks that their dad had something to do with what happened to Michelle Parker. Now, it's unclear. When he says one of the twins allegedly said that. But investigators included that in the document. Michelle Parker's son also said that his mom was afraid during drop-offs and custody exchanges because Smith had such a short fuse. In another 2026 interview, a friend of Dale Smith's also says that within weeks of Michelle going missing, Smith allegedly said to him, quote, I wish someone would kill. This B-word. Now, on top of that, we've talked about the cell phone. How about a laptop? And that is something that investigators looked at back in 2011. It uncovered some pretty bizarre searches, reportedly, that Dale Smith made, related to Michelle Parker months before she disappeared. Police write that on June 1st and 2nd of 2011, Dale Smith searched Michelle Lee missing. Authorities say this is a search that he made on a website called. PeakU.com, which scrapes information from social media sites, public records, and other websites, so you can put together a profile on people. And police say that Dale appeared to be searching for a missing image of Michelle. He searched for it again on August 1st, according to police. And then on August 6th, police say Dale Smith Jr. created a file on his computer, and the path was Dale slash pictures slash Michelle. And police are alleging that there were several nude pictures. Of Michelle Parker in that file. Now, let's talk about the text messages. That we are seeing now for the first time that this couple exchanged with each other in the weeks leading up to Michelle Parker's disappearance. On September 25th, 2011, Michelle Parker allegedly text Dale, quote, don't threaten me, a-hole. And Smith is said to respond, you can meet me at the gas station, which is five men from your mom's, or I'll keep the kids and file a police report. October 7th. Michelle says, it's court ordered, a-word, open communication. I'll have you held in contempt. Try me. The next day, she says, called you again, left another message. Have the kids call me, Dale, and stop being selfish piece of S-word. She then texts, your Q-pix of S-word, liar, and dad. It does appear she meant to say that he is a piece of S-word, liar, and dad. Now, Dale did not respond to those messages. And on November 3rd. Michelle sent a barrage of messages to Dale Smith, including saying that you're a F-wording liar. You're going to have to tell me a few hours prior to having them. You're not taking them. You're a real piece of S-word as a person and a father. It seems like Dale had pulled out of having the twins that day at the last second. She also allegedly says, quote, I hope your plane crashes. I F-wording hate you. I told you I couldn't do that. Shipping, billing, admin, payroll. Marketing. You're managing all the things. So why waste time sending important documents the old-fashioned way? And now at 3.30 p.m., an hour and a half before you have them, you tell me you are taking them. F you. Your family just got a lot smaller because your visitation rights will be taken away. And the next message is, please show that Dale's sense wasn't until November 7th. And this is what he says. Quote, you and your boyfriend have fun lying to me last week saying you didn't have one, so I would loan you money. LOL, come on now. Do I look that stupid? And lying about moving to Daytona. Do you want to buy yourself another good one? I don't believe any of it, Michelle. So please leave me alone. And if you need to talk to me, contact my attorney, unless it's about me getting my kids. Oh, one last thing. Can we please get the Hummer out of my name? And Michelle responds, don't have a boyfriend, but I am talking with someone probably official very soon. And I am moving by myself. Eventually he may move in and we'll rent his house out. I want the loan to get your name off Hummer. It would have been legal and you would have made extra money in the process. So look, you can see that this relationship and the word toxic and that's, that's what it was. But even after that, police allege three days later, Smith sends a message to Parker bribing her for sex. Then on November 17th, this is the same day that Michelle Parker goes missing. Smith texted her 119 in the afternoon, quote, I'm sexually frustrated, LOL. And Parker replied. That's your fault. You were never frustrated before when while with me and half the time, it wasn't me. You were bleeping. I'm sure you're fine. Now the people's court episode then aired at 2 PM. There are text messages that show that Michelle and a friend are texting about how she's seemingly embarrassed about how things look. Michelle then texts with some other friends in the hours leading up to the drop off of the twins at Dale's home. Police allege between 3 16 PM and 6 18. Her phone. Seems to stay in the same spot. And we already knew that based off of when she is alleged to arrive at Dale's apartment. They also say that Michelle had plans to go pick up her older son after dropping the twins off at Dale's house. So she had somewhere to go. The new analysis also seems to argue that Michelle and Dale exchanged more than a thousand text messages and 21 calls between October 1st and November 17th. And yet. When Michelle went missing, the suspect never called or messaged her. her. So Dale has this communication back and forth, even after they were going at it on text messages. She vanishes and he never sends her one word. Now I told you that Michelle Parker's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Smith and it was dismissed in 2020. But there may have been some information coming out on that very important to the criminal case. Detectives went through what Smith said in a deposition. In the affidavit, they include a portion of what Smith said. And when a lawyer asked him what Michelle did when she dropped the kids off, Smith invoked his right not to answer. He also wouldn't answer about what the couple said about the people's court episode. He had told the lawyer that he DVR the episode instead of watching it live. And police point out that in the deposition, Smith doesn't seem to remember much about the day until 318 exactly when Michelle arrived. And that arrival time is different from when he first said she arrived at 4 p.m. in 2011. He also contradicted himself, according to police, when he said he did not watch the original broadcast of the people's court because now he is saying he DVR'd it and had to check it out later. Smith was arrested on October 14th of this year. And roughly two weeks prior, one of the twins, one of the boys that he shares with Michelle Parker, was interviewed by detectives. So this boy would be roughly 18 years old now. And police say this was an unscheduled meeting. So this boy showed up looking to talk to investigators. And police say that Dale's son asked detectives multiple questions that they couldn't answer. And the last question that he had was if his dad was still a suspect in the investigation into what happened to his mom. And just one day before Dale Smith's arrest, authorities alleged that he bought a ticket from Orlando to the country of Columbia. The flight was set to take off on October 16th. He did have a return flight scheduled for October 19th. Now, prosecutors wanted more time before making all of this public. So it's unclear if when this airline ticket was purchased, they knew they had to move in on Dale Smith and they felt like they had enough to make an arrest. Prosecutors said they did not want this information to impact what a witness might remember because they're still continuing to do interviews. This is what Dale Smith's attorney told Vinnie Politan on the day that his client made his first court appearance as an accused killer. A lot of the evidence I saw is that they were able to pull up some text messages between Michelle Parker and Dale Smith. Obviously, these text messages don't show them having the most healthy relationship, but there's nothing in there that shows that there was any premeditation to commit murder or any intent to commit murder. It just shows. What we saw in the people's court, the two of them would get under each other's skin. So you didn't see anything that would place him near her cell phone where it was found discarded or him near her truck where it was spotted 855 that night? Is there any evidence like that? Well, they do have different times when her phone was dinged and looking at the direction where she was at and stuff. But as far as where. Her vehicle was at? No. At the time when it was discarded. So there's a timeline that they go through in painstaking detail. But with all that, a lot of it wasn't anything that is new to me. It's not something that I didn't know 15 years ago when I got onto the case. Now, Rajan Joshi has represented Smith on this case since 2011, and he's mentioned in court documents. Police point out that Smith hired his attorney five days before he was publicly named a suspect by police. And Dale Smith's lawyer has said that his client maintains his innocence. In our interview with Michelle's dad and stepmom, a couple who have been waiting for 15 years for justice and for answers as to what happened to Michelle, I asked them what they wanted people to know about Michelle Parker, and this is what they said.
