Disney Star David Henrie Reveals the Dark Side of Fame

Kroger Delivery delivers fresh groceries with care, offering free shipping on orders of $50 or more, while BJ’s Wholesale Club provides major savings and special member incentives. A former Disney Channel actor shares his journey from child stardom to deep personal crisis, marked by depression, panic attacks, and a search for meaning. He recounts how a philosophy night on a movie set sparked a spiritual awakening, leading him to embrace Christianity based on the universe’s design and moral order. He emphasizes that faith is not passive but requires active choices, purpose, and daily commitment, and that suffering can have redemptive value. The story also raises concerns about the pressures and exploitation in child acting, advocating for parental protection and healthy alternatives like theater and improv. The narrative concludes with a call to spiritual growth, personal responsibility, and community, culminating in a promotion of Open Heaven, a faith-based live event featuring worship and real conversations. These themes highlight a broader message: finding value in life, purpose in suffering, and transformation through faith.

I was mortified, like, I'm going to push through this, I'm Italian. Oh, I'm Rocky. It led me down a really dark path. I really struggled. What has being openly Christian in Hollywood cost you? Hollywood's a tough thing, man. It's like, it's so easy to lose yourself. It's so easy to sell your soul. All right, let's get into this episode. What's going on, guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Crawford Podcast. I'm Bryce and today we're with David Henry. Thank you for having me, man. Thank you very much. Dude, you know, it is very refreshing sitting down with people that have been in front of cameras a lot. You know, it's like, it's easier to have like a conversation, you know, sometimes like you get in front of the camera, it's a little nervous and you're like, you know what I'm saying? But it is nice to have conversations with, with people that are in front of the camera because then it's just like, you know, it's casual and you're not tense and it's great. I'm so grateful you're here. I'm grateful to be here, man. Thank you very much. And these cameras are all nice and little, like when you're on a TV show, the cameras are like huge and in your face. So this is like, it's like we're hanging in your living room. We're just, we're just chilling, man. Well, I know that you're Catholic. Yes, I'm Protestant. So the Protestant problem we have is like, we'll be at church, right? And like, I'll be like hitting one of these and I open my eyes and there's like a 90 millimeter camera in my face. You know what I mean? You like open your eyes and, or you're kind of like standing there with your hands crossed, you know, worship in, and then you'd like open your eyes and there's a camera lens and you just like hit one of these, you know, like, you got a sporting game or whatever. You made it to the Megatron. Yeah. It's going on the church socials, man. You gotta, you gotta be ready for it. That's awesome. Dude, before we kind of dive in, I just want to know who is David Henry? Um, that's a very deep question. Like who, who are you? What is your identity? Um, um, I, I am, I'm a son of God. I, I'm Catholic. I'm a husband. I'm a father of four, father of four on earth. And then we have 10 in heaven. We have 10 in a better place. Um, and then I try to entertain my, my mission is just to try to make good content that can make the world a better place. But, um, yeah, first and foremost, like, that's why I love doing like, we do the sign of the cross, right? And it's like, you could think, why are you doing that? Are you swatting a fly? Like, what are you doing? But it's very linked to identity because you, you, like, as, as, as Catholics, we very much say we, we start with identity. Who is our identity? Our identity is in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. That's our identity in the shape of the cross. We're calling our baptism. Um, we're calling that baptismal grace, that entrance into, uh, union with Christ. So for me, who am I? That, that, that, that, that, uh, that's me, brother. That's me. rare, maybe to say, um, maybe not rare amongst Catholics. Right. But maybe more like in the general, I gotta be, cause I'm not like I'm a Protestant, you know, I go to what denomination I go to a non-denominational church, but I tend to lean a little bit more charismatic when I view, uh, uh, like the Holy spirit and stuff like that. But, um, and you know, I'm not saying that, you know, Protestants and evangelicals don't have reverence for God, but there's something beautiful about the way that you guys view the sacraments and, and, uh, and I just, yeah, I love it. And I admire it and respect it a ton. Um, I just noticed, this is totally not a part. Is that Mike Manhart's? Oh, this. Yeah, dude, dude. I love this guy. Forget about me. I love you. This guy's amazing. He's amazing. I noticed it on your, yeah, dude, this, this is family. F-A-M-M-I-L-Y. Forget about me. I love you. This guy has an incredible ministry, does like homeless ministry all over. And like, this is always a good reminder to me to forget about me. I love you. Like, who am I here serving? He is one of the most amazing human beings. I haven't talked to him, gosh, in forever. But when I first moved out here, like I got connected with him and was like passing out meals with him on Friday sometimes. And just like, he was a big blessing to me and I have so much respect for Mike. So that is so crazy. He's amazing. Forget about me. I love you. Well, well, dude, I, so I, I, I gotta be honest. You're a big part of my childhood, right? I grew up on wizards of Waverly place. I thought it was amazing. So thank you for being a part of my early developmental years and encouraging me along the way. Thank you very much. Did you get into acting as a kid? It's a big Italian family, right? Big Italian family. But I grew up in Arizona. I didn't have like connect any formal connection to the industry. It's just a big Italian family and you're just being funny and entertaining the family. And everyone was like, Oh, you got, you got talent. You should figure out a way to try this. And like a fluke chance. I, I I'm watching TV and there's like, Hey, there's an audition for like a manager in Arizona. And I'm like, Hey, there's an audition for like a manager in Arizona. And I'm like, Hey, there's an audition for like a It worked out. And I went to LA the next day or a couple of days later, audition for this manager got, got with this person and they start sending me on auditions. And I just start like, like booking. I just started like getting things. Cause I was just like a kind of a normal kid in Arizona. And I was born in Mission Viejo, but my childhood in Arizona and you know, it's just one of those things, you know, luck circumstance time. And, and I was just kind of a normal kid. Like a little trained little kid actors were like very, I don't know, kind of robotic. And I just get in there and talk about sports or whatever with the directors. And they're like, yeah, you're just like a normal kid. And I'm like, yeah. And I like to entertain and I like to have fun. And, and they're like, all right, you want the role? And I like started booking all these things. And my parents supported me. I didn't have any religion in my life at the time. And, and I got very busy and I got working and working and working until now, but definitely didn't have any faith or anything in my, um, but yeah, I just kept crank cranking away, man, doing the child. So just personally, you didn't have any faith in your life growing up or like your family grew up a certain way. We, we did grow up Catholic. So I was baptized, but very culturally Catholic. And this is a problem. And you're, you're, there's a problem in all denominations, but really Catholics in particular, especially, especially in the nineties, um, it's a very watered down period of time in, in, in church history. And, uh, I didn't see any representation of men in the Catholic faith. I grew up thinking my dad called our local priest, father twinkle toes. And he, and he was probably, he was probably right. This guy was a little light in the loafers and, uh, light in the loafers. And, uh, so I saw no, as a man, I saw no representation for me in that church. I thought, I thought that, um, I thought that was for women and I thought, okay, they, they, they go pray men do other things. And, um, and so I just did my thing. I worked as an actor and just kept kind of climbing and climbing and climbing, but it built a massive void in me, which led to a conversion later in life. But, um, What was your family like growing up? Parents still married. Amazing. Very loving relationship. My dad was actually Presbyterian, and his dad was like a youth minister at their local church, but he saw some people stealing from like the – I don't know how they do it, but the way that they take their donations. He saw some people stealing, and he saw a couple scandalous things, and he was like, okay, we're out. So my dad grew up with a father that was very against Christianity because of the things that he saw. So my dad always said, oh, yeah, I'm like Presbyterian or Protestant, and my mom is like culturally Catholic. She always had a relationship with God and always like – what do we say? I love God, and I believe in God, but your father won't take us – doesn't want to go to church. And the one or two times a year we would go to church, Christmas and Easter. He would be making fun of Father Twinkle Toes, and then he would be – He'd be squeezing our hands during the Our Father. When it's time to pray the Our Father, he'd be squeezing our hands and joking around with us. So I admire my dad because he came from nothing. He had nothing growing up, and he's a hard worker, and he built a great life for me and my brother. So I, as a son, admired my father, but he didn't take it serious. And if he's not taking it serious, then I'm not going to take it serious. And I thought I'm just going to live to make money and work hard, and God used that for later in life when I had a big change. But, yeah, man, it was just crazy. I literally, right around the corner, grew up in Studio City, you know, not too far from here. Have you ever been to Aroma Cafe over there? Oh, I used to live at Aroma Cafe practically. Like, I was there every day. Dude, that's the best spot. Aroma Cafe is amazing. It's amazing. And it's been cool for, like – it's been cool for 20 years. Like, I've been going there since before it was as cool as it is now, but it's always been cool. When you shop Kroger Delivery, you can expect the same. The savings you love and fresh groceries delivered right to your door. Restrictions apply. Kroger. Fresh for everyone. Hey, it's Kelly Rowland. You may not know this, but I have eczema. So I get how it can steal your time. But why let eczema take over when you can talk to your doctor about Eblis? Paid partnership with Lilly. Respect your time. Ask your doctor about Eblis and visit Eblis.com or call 1-800-LILLY-RX or 1-800-545-5979. Yeah, I love that place. That's my wife. When I met her originally, she would go there and read her Bible for hours and stack up parking tickets outside. Your wife was reading her Bibles at Aroma Cafe? Yeah. That is so, like, Hollywood's not like you're in Texas, you know, or like you're in, like, I don't know, a state that has much more evangelical influence. Like, you don't read your Bible at Aroma Cafe. That's amazing. Yeah, it was. That's a witness in herself. It was, like, she would start so many conversations with people and, yeah, she was just awesome. But she would stay there for hours and forget to go refill the parking. And then she would just get tickets every day. Oh, and those add up. I mean, that is brutal. I mean, they are pretty quick to give you the parking ticket out here at the meter. Oh, yeah. They're, like, sitting there just waiting for it. They're like, when's the girl with the Bible going to get stuck in Galatians? Keep reading her thing? Yeah, yeah. You know what's so funny to me about your, like, acting journey is I feel like the typical haunting, I don't know, maybe this is your mom's hesitation on calling the manager, but you just hear about so many scams. Oh, yeah. You know, where you call. And then you pay the manager money or something. And it's, like, whatever. And you're just like, yeah, so an ad on TV called. Then I started booking. And then you hear, like, all these crazy horror stories. Oh, yeah. No, looking back on it, it totally should have been a scam. Like, if I tell anyone, I'd say, don't do what we did. Like, it totally looks like a scam in hindsight. But it wasn't. It was a real manager that, like, for some reason picked up our call. And for some reason, it worked out. But, no, most of those things are, like, scammy and weird. And, like, the whole kid actor topic is, like, a whole other topic of, like… Very tragic situations. But I had two good parents that, like, they didn't need my money. They didn't need me to work. They didn't need any of that. And a lot of times, that's not the case. But they didn't need any of that from me. They were just like, as long as you're having fun, we're going to do this. But, you know, my dad was always like, and the second you're done with California, I don't like a lot of people out there. So let's get back to Arizona as soon as humanly possible. But, yeah, it just kept working, man. It just kept working. I kept at it. I worked hard. And I climbed the ladder. What was it like being a Disney kid? I was a Disney kid before social media. So, like, it was, like, the last year. And I just did the Jonas Brothers podcast right before this. And we were talking about this. Because, like, we would go do, like, Disney Channel games. And it would be… Do you remember that? Disney Channel games? Yes. Yes, I do. Like, you'd all wear the colors. Yeah. And you'd, like, compete, you know? Yes. And, like, so we'd all do the Disney Channel games. And there was no Instagram, right? So, like, we'd be like, hey, Jonas Brothers and Selena, whoever, like, let's go hang out at the jacuzzi and just chill. And we'd, like, walk through the lobby and go into the jacuzzi, hang out. You could never do that. Someone would be filming. Someone would be listening. It'd be a whole thing. But it was awesome, man. It was awesome. It was, like, I think that last period of time of Disney before everything changed, before streaming, before all of it, it was, like, the last moment of… Because back in the day, you only had… How old are you? I'm 22. 22. Okay. So, yeah. Like, growing up, you probably only had a… You had Disney. You had Disney, Nickelodeon. Yeah. And that was kind of it. And then, like, Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network and maybe Boomerang if you were epic. Maybe, yeah. If you wanted to watch some, like, bad Dragon Ball Z or something. Yeah, something cool. Something cool. Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes. Yeah. Like, all that. Yeah. But that was it. You had three choices. And now, it's like, because we're doing this new show for Disney right now, and the kids are asking me, like, hey, what's it going to be like? What's it like to be a Disney Channel star? What's it going to be like? And I was like, honestly, guys, it's just different now. Like, you don't just have three channels. Every young person in the world has 20 influencers they follow, 20 different YouTube channels they follow, thousands of choices of content on many different streaming platforms. Like, it's not as centralized as it was. So, it's just different. But that was that time. Grew up in that time where it was, like, old school. People actually wanted autographs. Like, they wanted you to sign things. Yeah. Now, it's, like, pictures and videos. And it's not a knock. It's just the times were different, you know? And it was, like, a pure. More wholesome time to be an actor. You could just, like. Plus, you also didn't have the immediate feedback. Like, now, when you post a video, it's, like, immediately, bang, you're getting comments, you're getting likes, dislikes, you're getting everything. Good, bad, and the ugly. You're seeing it all right there. And growing up, you didn't have that. You just made a show. You put it out. I don't know what people are saying. I got no idea. There's no way for me to know, you know? And that kind of kept you a little detached in a good way. It's like, I think people like it, and it seems like a lot of people are watching, but I didn't have to deal with all the feedback. It's so hard, even as an adult now, to read negative feedback, and it's like, man, if I was a kid dealing with all that, it'd be kind of tough. It's interesting for you to say that maybe, like, the. Well, I agree. The pressures are definitely different, where, like, having access to every person on the planet is toxic, and, you know, nowadays, like, the new trading card is a picture with someone. Like, the amount of people that probably run up to you and, like, take a picture and leave, and you're like, oh, I didn't even get your name. Yeah. Like, where are you from? A thousand percent. But the way that you describe the experience, it just seems different from, well, I know we'll get more into your story and stuff like that, but, like, from the outside looking in, you see outside of Disney, like, all these child stars grow up, and then they just, like, crash, or bad stuff happens. Yeah. Things like that. Like, I mean, just Hayden Panettiere just passed away. Why do you think so many child stars crash? Make sure you rest in peace. Please. Dude, it's. Yeah, I did just see that. Isn't that sad? Yeah, when was that? This was yesterday. This was last night. And what happened? I don't know the full story. I just know that. I don't think the full story's developed yet, but she died, and everyone reported that she passed away. But, yeah, I mean, she rests in peace. It's like, I grew up with. I wasn't best friends with her or anything, but we're around the same age at Sierra at auditions, and I knew her little brother, who also has passed away. God rest his soul. But, you know, it's a. It's a tough place, man. It's a tough place. Like, if you don't have two parents who are very much there to protect you and guard you, it's a place that can chew you up and spit you out. Like, you change in front of people all the time. It's like, you go to do wardrobe, and you're a kid, and it's like, we got six different wardrobe options for you here. Take off your clothes and get in them, and we're going to take pictures, and you're there with a bunch of adults looking at you when you're in your underwear. And if I didn't have my parents around, my mom to say, hey, put up a cloth or take him in the other room or whatever, like, most kid actors would just do that. Yeah. And it's like, you don't know those people sitting on the couch on the other side of the. And a lot of people have been taken advantage of in that way. A lot of people I know were taken advantage of in the wardrobe room. A lot of kid actors that I know. And on top of that, it's like your brain is not even near developed. Like you're nowhere near fully developed. And you have agents and managers and lawyers and fame and money. And if your parents aren't protecting you and saving your money, you're paying them. That's like the opposite. Your parents are supposed to provide and protect you. You're not supposed to provide for them. Like that is – to a kid, that's like psychology breaking, like breaking. I have a buddy who's a really well-known actor who tried to commit suicide last year. And I saw it. Like as a young person, he was sent out here and lived in like a kid acting apartment where like all a bunch of other boys and girls moved into and shared rooms. And they'd like stack them up in these rooms. It's like inhumane. And they had like a guardian who was like the manager who would send them on things. And drive them places that who knows who that is. It's not their parents. And like that's the kind of – that's the kid acting world that I came up in. It's that kind of stuff. And other parents, I'd see if their kids didn't succeed in audition because they need the money, they'd make them run around buildings. They'd be like, you're not getting any ice cream now because you messed up that audition. Oh, yeah. I know so many horror stories about – So that was that common for parents to be like a pimp for their kids in the child acting world? Yeah. Yeah. That is crazy. And a lot of times they're leaving a broken situation. You know? They're leaving. They're leaving their spouses and they're taking the kid and they're going across the country and I need you to succeed. It's like imagine having that pressure. How hard is it now as just a – living in this day and age as adults to deal with pressure? Like pressure is not easy. There's a big responsibility on us. And imagine doing that as a kid. Your brain is not developed. Like I want to write this book one day, man. I think the title of the book is Would I Let My Kid Act? And I want to sit down with all my friends that I've grown up with, some very famous actresses and actors, some that – You don't know, but we're there doing it and working. I just want to ask them that question and like see where the conversation goes because like everyone who has kids is like, my kid is talented. How do we get in the business? I want to talk to you about how you did it. And I'm always just like, just hold on. Like it's a – like I think it's a very special calling. And there's nothing wrong with like theater, improv, giving your kid a great creative outlet. Like that's beautiful. That's beautiful. But like the professional – That's beautiful. The professional child acting world, you know, I had good parents and I still went through a lot. Like I still went through abnormal pressures that kids don't have and I had to go through therapy for it later in life and still deal with effects of just like abnormal understandings of pressure. Because as a kid, that was – you know, there's hundreds of people around watching me and I'm sitting in front of executives and agents and managers and, you know, that's a lot. That's a lot of pressure before your brain and body are developed enough to understand the reality of what's going on. So you can process it better and approach the situation better. So I think it's a very rare – for all the parents out there with kids that are thinking of doing this, I think it's a very rare calling. And that's morality aside. Yeah. Now when you factor in like, well, what am I doing and what's the content that I'm doing and what kind of stuff am I going to be a part of, especially if you're a Christian, that's a whole additional set of rules that you're going to place on yourself. So yeah, I think it's just a very rare and special thing. And anytime I work with kids, I try to create an environment that I wished I had as a kid. So it's very important to me to like make them feel safe and make them – treat them as kids. Don't treat them like little adults. You know, treat them as kids. Quick pause. Every time you fill up, you're handing over money and getting nothing back. That always kind of bugged me. So now I earn cash back at the pump, at the store, and when I grab food all through the Upside app. And this part of the video is sponsored by Upside. But I'm not just reading an ad. That's an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank using promo code Bryce. And what do you think stopped you from having a career crash and burn like a lot of child actors? Honestly, it's my parents, man. My parents, my parents are good parents. Like they, you know, we didn't have a lot of kids. We didn't have a lot of faith growing up, but they cared. They really cared. And, uh, they, they always let me know that you don't need this. Like you don't need this. This is, this is fun. You're enjoying it, but you don't need this. You don't need it. Uh, but I definitely had some hard moments, man. I mean, I definitely had a lot of hard moments where it's like, what led to my conversion ultimately was going through depression, like really struggling and going through a deep depression because I finished the Disney show and, and. And I'd made money and I'd, I'd done well. And I, I, I just, I didn't find anything valuable. Like I had a question, where is value? What is value? What is meaning? And, uh, it just made me, it made me depressed, man. I started having all these feelings and all these thoughts and all these, like these foreign things where I was like, why am I feeling this way? Why am I thinking this way? Why, why am I, why am I getting nervous? Why are my hands shaky? What were all these coming from? Like, what is this? Like, what is this? What is going on? And I was like, I'm not going to therapy. I'm not doing any of that. I'm going to push through this. I was embarrassed to talk to any other man about it, especially. I was mortified. Like, I'm going to push through this. I'm Italian. I'm going to do, you know, like, and, uh, I was like, what would Rocky do? What would Rocky do? And, uh, in, in, you know, it led me down a really dark path and I was, um, I really struggled and I really struggled. And it brought me to a low point though, where I said, man, I need something. Like I need something. I don't know what it is. And I didn't want it to be Christianity because I felt that that was overplayed. And like I said, effeminate. And, and I was like, I'm not, I'm not doing that. And, uh, God has a sense of humor. He didn't let up on me. Um, and yeah, that's a whole, a whole other story. But, uh, the, the value question is so interesting because I didn't become, I didn't become a Christian until I was a junior and similar thing. Like I, I, Jesus met me when I was at my lowest of lows and depression, anxiety and every, every ounce of brokenness you can imagine. But this question rang in my head constantly and still does today. Like as a heart check, I, I went to private Christian school and my sophomore year Bible teacher had asked our class a question or three questions, but he basically was like, where do you find your satisfaction? What gives you significance? And where is your security? And if one of those three things isn't in Jesus, then there's a big problem. And even now, like as a heart check, being a Christian where you can say, oh yeah, like it's cool. I, I'm like a Christian. I follow Jesus and yeah, I try to make him out about my thing, but then maybe, you know, in, in marriage, maybe you accidentally put security in your marriage because you're like, oh, well you're locked down for eternity right now. So maybe it's cool. Or you do this or, you know, other people outside of Christianity, they put it in money, things, substances, whatever it may be. And that just has always been such a big heart check for me. Give me, give me. - Okay, let's do that again. Uh, secure, where do you put your. - Where, what, where do you find your significance? - Significance? - Uh, what gives you satisfaction? - Okay. Significant satisfaction. - Where do you find your security? - Okay. Three S's, significance, satisfaction, security. Yeah, dude, all my answers were not God. They were all not God. It was like, basically my existence was in the eyes of others. Do they approve of me? Am I, what's my success? What's my status? What's all of that? None of it was in, none of it was in Christ. None of it. It was in Christ. And that was the problem. That was the problem. It led me to a complete, like, I mean, if you're not living your life for something bigger, if you're not living your life for Christ, ultimately you're living for yourself. And the more you chase that it's going to hit a wall eventually. And, and, and I did, and I hit it, I hit a big wall, but that, you know, I love that. Um, is it Chesterton or, or a CS Lewis that says God, I think it's CS Lewis. That says God uses pain as a megaphone to rouse a deaf world and that was that moment for me where that pain was transformed ultimately into, um, God used that to prick my conscious, to make me open to, to Christ and, and his truths and his teachings. Before we kind of get into that low, like that low point of your life, looking back on all the knowledge you have on just the, I don't know, acting industry, child acting industry in general, if your kids wanted to be act actors or actresses, would you let them? Woof. Here's the problem. My daughter is super funny. Like my seven year old, she is super funny and quirky and, um, she's, she's, she's hilarious. And she, she does my lines. She'll watch my shows and she'll like, she'll come up to me and like repeat my lines and they're so cute. And I like, I so would want to put her in things that are my own things. Like I'd like to act in my stuff. I'd let her do some lines in my things, but the grind of a child actor world. No, no, man, it is not. It's a professional setting. Like it's a, it's the kid brain is not, I'm just trying to raise a little little saints and i'm trying to get my kids to heaven and like i'm focused on that and like that's my goal right now is is just that and i don't want to expose them to that world um because i think that world is reserved for certain people but not not not one of my kids right now yeah could what i put them in myself yes would i let them do drama and improv and theater and plays absolutely absolutely that's all fun and that's all hobbies that's good but um the professional child actor world is a grind man there's a grind that i don't i don't think it's for very few kids when did the fun and the money start wearing off when you shop kroger delivery you can expect the savings you love and fresh groceries delivered right to your door our refrigerated trucks keep your items cool while our associates are committed to getting every detail right carefully selecting and packing your order with care because bringing you fresh quality groceries is what we do do best right now enjoy free delivery on orders of fifty dollars or more with your digital coupon restrictions apply c-site for details kroger fresh for everyone hey it's kelly roland you may not know this but i have eczema so i get how it can steal your time but why let eczema take over when you can talk to your doctor about ebglis ebglis labrakizumab lbkz a 250 milligram per two milliliter injection is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 88 pounds or 40 kilograms with moderate to severe eczema also called atopic dermatitis that is not well controlled with prescription therapies used on the skin or topicals or who cannot use topical therapies ebglis can be used with or without topical corticosteroids don't use if you are allergic to ebglis allergic reactions can occur that can be severe eye problems can occur tell your doctor if you have new or worsening eye problems you should not receive a live vaccine when treated with ebglis before starting ebglis tell your doctor if you have a parasitic infection with Lily. Respect your time. Ask your doctor about EPCLS and visit EPCLS.com or call 1-800-LILY-RX or 1-800-545-5979. I was like 17, 18, 19, 20. Like from 16 to like 20, it started to wear off. You know, it started to wear off. I was just a kid who, you know, I did make a lot of money and I was traveling and doing all the things, but it's like bubblegum. Like you put a piece of bubblegum in and then it loses its flavor and you put another one in. Now you got two, loses its flavor twice as fast. And then you got like the whole pack in your mouth and you're like, I'm chewing on a piece of rubber that's disgusting. I don't want to spit this crap out. And you just spit it out. And you're like, like that was me with pleasure. And that was me with stuff. I was just like getting one thing after the other. And I remember I hit this low point where I was, there was this family that like uber wealthy. Uh, Royal family. And they invited me to like their place and, and overseas. And I got to everything was free. Like everything was free. Everything you could possibly want in this like five-star resort was free. And, uh, I remember it, it like setting my head into a tailspin cause I was like, like that 20,000 bottles, dollar bottles free. And they're like, yeah, that like $4,000, whatever. Like they just bring it over and it's like, yeah, here it is. No, no issues, no issues at the hotel. Whatever you want. The finest piece of meat, the finest, this, that you want a $10,000 bottle of wine. It was all just there. Yeah. Whatever you want. It's all, it's, it's our place. And this is one of the best hotels in the world, by the way. Yeah. Like it's unbelievable. And, uh, and, and it was just like a kind of a, I literally was like tasting the things. And I was like, I kept saying, Oh no. Cause I'm like, it's just alcohol. It's just this. It's just that like in, in the world's playing this game where they buy these things and you have to work your whole life to be able to buy these things. And for these people, it's, it's nothing. It's like literally nothing. And I'm like, what is value? Am I living in some place? Am I living in some like alternate duped world where we're all in this rat race trying to get things that people put numbers on and ascribe value to, but for them it's nothing. And I'll never be able to afford this kind of stuff. I don't care how wealthy I am. I'll never be able to spend a hundred grand in a night just to have dinner. Like this is what, what is the, so like sent me in this really weird, it kind of culminated in that moment. And, uh, that's when my anxiety in life was really starting to kick up and peak because I was, I felt like I was in this rat race and I felt like meaning was no value. And, and, and it really just, it really just messed with my mind, man. And then it made me lose stability mentally because I was like, well, what am I supposed to be doing? Like, what is my purpose? And then that made me start to feel antecedent emotions and anxieties and things I didn't understand. And that sent me spinning. And, uh, it was, it was that kind of period of time where it, it, it lost its, uh, its savor and, you know, girls and partying and all this stuff. It wore off. And I was like, yeah, I need something. Yeah. Like, cause this isn't working. So I started studying like Buddhism and I was like, what's a cool new agey kind of thing. And I read that book, the secret. And, uh, it started setting like comparative mythology and I was just researching and searching and finding. And, um, yeah, it was a crazy journey, bro. What was the lowest point for you? When I started having panic attacks, uh, that was, that was the low, that was the low points. You know, you ever had a panic attack like once or twice, but were they more of like a frequent thing for you? It was only a handful. It was only a handful, but I'd never lost control before. I mean, they're the worst. They're the worst. But, uh, I'd never had a panic attack. I'd never lost control. And, um, I remember the first one that I had, I thought it was like, I thought it was like a panic attack. And, uh, when I went to my dad, I'd like, my vision was blurring and my hands were getting all sweaty and I made him take me to the hospital. I thought it was having an allergic reaction at the time and to something. And, uh, and I totally lost control. I, it was that moment where fear conquered. And, um, this was, this is when I was, all the stories I just mentioned were going on and coming out of like questioning value and everything. And, uh, what am I going to do with my life? And, and the panic attacks started. And, uh, that just totally sunk me, bro. It just sunk me where I was like, after it happened and I realized it's just a panic attack. It wasn't anything. Um, after that happened, like I was thrown completely off kilter, completely off kilter. My confidence was gone. My, um, I thought it could happen at any moment. I didn't want to go to therapy. I didn't want to talk to someone about it. And that threw me completely off kilter and really started me on a journey where I said, I need to find something. I need to find something that I believe. And I need to find a belief. Um, but yeah, it was the panic attacks, bro. That was, that was, that was awful. My hands collapsed and got clammy and my heart was racing and it was all of it. I was sweating and, and the whole freaking thing. And now that I've done therapy, like you can, you can deal with this stuff very quickly and there's, there's techniques and things you can do to stop it. And now, you know, I haven't had one in, you know, since before I was married, you know, so more than 10 years, but, um, um, looking back on it, I wish I would have been more proactive on the mental health component and like actually reached out to people, talk to people, gotten a therapist. Cause it wasn't the end of the world. It was just fear consuming you. And there's techniques you can do mentally to avoid that. And obviously prayer. Now I know about prayer. I didn't have prayer then, but, um, yeah, it was, it was, uh, that was gnarly, bro. That was gnarly. Walk me through how you came back to faith. How'd I come back to faith? So I'm in this low point, right? I'm dealing with anxiety. I'm dealing with all of it. I'm about to get this movie called hunger games. Remember hunger games. So Liam Hemsworth's role, the taller one in the movie, it was like down to me and him. Whoa. And, uh, and then I had another movie called little boy that I was up for as well. So I was up for those two movies, like right at the same time, these two films. And, um, I go into the audition for hunger games. I have a great meeting with Jennifer Lawrence and the director and, uh, come out. And then Liam Hemsworth comes in. It was like, his brother's movie Thor had just come out and like crushed it. And this guy comes in this whole King handsome, just stud. I was like, yeah, oh boy, I got a tough, uh, this guy's this guy's a fricking stud. He gets the role and, uh, good for him. And then afterwards I got this movie called little boy and I'm still dealing with the anxiety then dealing with anxiety. And I remember as I was driving out there, one of my irrational fears was like, I can't breathe. I'm worried about breathing and I'm going to hyperventilate or whatever. And I'm driving out there and I'm almost going to have a panic attack. Well, they're what I booked the movie and they're driving me out there to do it. And I'm worried about that. So that's all going on in life. And I'm just in this point of like lowness. Right. But I get this movie and it seems good. And, um, I get invited to a philosophy night on set, which I'm like, what? Like a philosophy night on a, on a movie set? That's not normal. Yeah. What is? No, no. Okay. I'm just making sure there's like a secret to the business. I don't know. No, no, it's totally abnormal. Like, no, it's seen a full, I've never heard of a philosophy night first of all. And then like a philosophy night on a movie set, very abnormal, very abnormal. Yeah. Well, I was like, all right, I'm studying Buddhism. I'm learning about like mythology and come to philosophy night, you know? And it was cool. Cause like the start of the philosophy night was basically the guy, one of the producers who was leading it basically said, if you have any religious beliefs, leave them at the door. We're not talking about religion. We're not talking about any of that. All we're talking about is, uh, uh, a leaf. and i'm like what what's going on and he goes yeah a leaf and it fell from a tree and let's talk about that i was like okay this is kind of fun this is interesting let's let's talk about the leaf i was having a beer and all right let's talk about the leaf and he goes where did it come from and i was like yeah the tree okay where did the what knocked it off okay how to fall i don't know squirrel bit it you know and uh he goes he goes yeah sure where'd the squirrel come from and so we start going back and back and back and back and back and all these contingent causes that are like leading back and back and back and back gets to the earth and the solar system and the stars and the cosmos and is it does it have an infinite regression or or a finite regression is their beginning and um i was like oh i never really never really thought of that infinite or finite well had to be infinite right because it's like going on and on and on and it was like well if it's infinite then why are things expanding you know why can you see like the red shift in the hubble telescope with light and we can tell that things are expanding like why is that and like oh that's cool then well then it couldn't have been an infinite regression like there had to have been some finite cause and wow that's a curious thing like if something was finite then well everything came from from something because something can't come from nothing wow that's that's curious so something started everything oh that's interesting and so my mind got thinking right about that concept and so then the next philosophy night i was like i want to come back this is really interesting like this is pointing towards something and and then the next time was talking about well well look at what's around us like everything seems to be really finely tuned like there's math in the universe and there's like gravitational rules and constants and if you change any of it by like point zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero one degrees none of us are here like it seems to be very finely tuned okay that's curious like something caused everything and it has intelligence like sprinkled throughout it huh huh well intelligence i mean look you look at a painting you know there's an artist and it's like well okay well there's fingerprints of something that created everything and yeah and so i start doing all these classes and it's leading me it's leading me it's leading me it's leading me asking all these questions and it gets to this point where i realize this thing is god this thing is god what we're talking about this thing this is god this all-powerful thing that created everything that put intelligence into the universe that created rational beings that can think and choose that there's morality that's interesting that's got to be god and then i was like my life's gonna change i used to always say i'm lucky i used to always say oh i'm i'm lucky my parents can afford to fly me to la and bring me into this life and i can work and i can make this money a lot of people don't have it as good as me i'm just lucky i'm just lucky and uh in this moment i realized i was not lucky god put me here i have purpose i've i've unique purpose and god put me here for a very specific reason lightning bolt like this in that moment i went i'm gonna completely change the way i live yeah i'm gonna completely change the way i live everything's gonna change i broke up with the girl i was dating an actress at the time and i invited her to go on the journey with me and she didn't want to and so all good um um but it completely radically changed my life bro in that moment i knew i have responsibility for my actions i need to change the way that i'm living i need to change certain behaviors i didn't understand like the whole you know the girls the partying the this the that i was like that's no self-control is a virtue i need to be able to control myself lust you know and wow that's a that's a vice that's a sin like okay whoa and then my next big question is well where is god because i knew that morality i knew that there was something is he is it is it the god of the the hindus the muslims the jews the christians and very quickly the doctrine of the fall and a savior was just so beautiful i mean you have that tattoo on your on your on your leg it's like that is our redemption that is our that is the redemption of the fall the brokenness of humankind so the fall and christ saving us and how all of the old testament prefigurements um come together perfectly in christ like that that sold me on on on christianity just how unbelievable that he could fulfill all these old testament prophecies i mean it's like insane the odds are unbelievable yeah like on it's like impossible like it's yeah i i like you know it's i love it just blows me away how your train of thought was if god is real my life's gonna change because the amount of people that you we meet so like we do we we've done some college campus dialogues and debates before on on faith and we're doing five more in the fall and uh four of them are at scc schools so in the bible belt and uh we've been to some bible belt schools before and the amount of people even even outside of the debates that like we'll run into that like know about jesus that have grown up around it and they're just like well my life doesn't need to change because i've followed jesus or people don't have a conviction to change yeah it just blows my mind because the same way you did like when you genuinely meet jesus yeah you can't not change it's literally impossible to not change i mean he he radically gives you a proper a real identity like a real identity and it's all in the bible it's like we are compelled to to live virtuously and to live holy lives it's like all across the world we're compelled to live virtuously and to live holy lives it's like all across the world we're compelled to live virtuously and to live holy lives it's like all across the world we're compelled to live virtuously and to live holy lives it's like all across the world we're compelled to live virtuously and to live holy lives it's like all across the whole thing but it just it to me i live such a opposite life where i exhausted it i saw the fruits of the world and it left me wanting and in the second i realized it was real i was just like boom it's like a lightning bolt of grace and i was like yes this is what i want i'm going all in man i'm going all in but the question was where is god where does god live and i studied different denominations and i looked into different beliefs and how it all works and and and um ultimately i'm catholic but uh that was a big thing for me is like where is god where does he live how does this work and in something yeah it's a it's a longer story but um but yeah it uh it by the grace of god is in the reason talk about inspiring change one of the reasons i i things that i liked about is this uh the catholic church is there's this meritorious redemptive view of of of suffering that that the process of salvation is a daily thing it's a choice and there's there's merit in that like you you merit is like some reward gained it's like you do good there can be grace that's had from that that good thing and it it made the suffering the suffering has value there's a value to it there's a value um that's that's how you can earn that's how i'll be careful with my words here because people are going to slice me in the comments but that's how you can attain uh sanctification um and that that was really that was really beautiful for me because i've never just made one decision and been good like i've never seen like making one one moment one um called um sola fide that was tough for me because it's like yes faith plus plus there's there's there's other things as well it's not just it's not just faith there's also works there's things that that we must do and um like one decision thing was a because i've never just made one decision like yes absolutely i accept jesus christ as my lord and savior like absolutely but that's the entrance like you know come faith comes through hearing but then there's a lot to do there's a lot that we we we should do so that was that was something that i really that i struggled with maybe you can help me understand it better but that was something that i that i that was a struggle for me hey quick break let me tell you about today's sponsor liberty university and i want to be completely upfront about something this is not just a sponsorship for me i actually just graduated from liberty this year and i'm going to be doing a lot of so when i'm talking about this i'm talking about something i actually lived here's what i want to say to anyone who's on the fence about going back to school or starting for the first time. There was a season where I genuinely did not think I could make it work. I literally dropped out of college without my parents knowing because I thought going to college was going to be this crazy thing. Between running a podcast, creating content, and everything else that comes with building something for Jesus, school felt like the thing that would have to wait. Liberty actually changed that for me. The flexibility of their online programs made it possible to pursue a degree without putting my life on hold. And the thing that actually kept drawing me back was that this school actually takes faith seriously. It's not just a university that happens to have Christians in it. The whole thing is built on a biblical worldview, and that matters when you're spending years of your life there. Education is one of the best investments you can make in yourself. And if you have been waiting for the right time, I want to encourage you, this might be it. Go to liberty.edu slash Bryce to learn more. And when you use that link, Liberty will waive your registration fee. Again, that is liberty.edu slash Bryce. Bryce. All right, back to the video. I mean, well, I mean, who knew philosophy night on a movie set? Crazy, bro. That's kind of crazy, you know? I mean, like, the way that I have balanced the salvation works things. I'm not the once saved, always saved guy that's like, oh, now you've prayed the prayer. Like, you're good. Because I find the people that ask me like, oh, is once saved, always saved true? And they like want it to be true. They're the type of person that's making sure that the prayer that they prayed. When they were 12 years old, it like gets them in the cut. And I'm like, okay, I like I, I just have a problem with that. Whereas like, I'm like my, I've always been like, what makes someone want to repent or like get baptized or, you know, stop having sex outside of marriage or like put the bottle down. It all stems from, oh, I'm surrendered to Jesus. Like, I'm trusting that his way is better. So I've just always viewed the works as, you know, my works prove whether my faith is. Sincere or insincere. But I, I, I've never, that's interesting. I've never banked my works on like getting me across the finish line, which I admit, I don't, I don't know if maybe that's what, what you view. But, um, I, I just always, the way I view my life, it's like, I love that. I love the mentality of like, there's stuff to do. Yeah. Because I, this has just been like my heart lately. I want to have this crown to lay at his feet that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that has jewels on it and intentional. Like I, I, I want everything I do to be like, when I get there to like, take this crown off and lay it at his feet and be like, yeah, this is yours, man. Blood, sweat and hard days and everything in between, like it was for you and, uh, which the human nature can be a hang up on sometimes, you know, but I, I mean, that's the reality of it. I love that. That's beautiful. That's a beautiful image. I'm just so curious. Your thought, if you, if that philosophy night never happened, if the coming to faith day never happened, where do you think you would be right now? I mean, probably divorced, probably, probably divorced. I think I would've tried to work it out with the girl and, uh, it wouldn't have ended well. Um, yeah, dude, I don't know, bro. I don't know, man. I don't know if I don't think I was like suicidal or anything, but like that whole anxiety, depression thing was pretty rough. And, uh, I don't, if I wouldn't have found Christ, like, I don't think it would've gone away. I think it would've been way worse. Um, yeah, I don't know, man. I don't know. I don't know. I probably would've been, I kept acting, but I think eventually I would've like when you're, I don't know, like Christ gives you a purpose and a drive and a mission. And that's what I, the acting thing was like all more for me. And I think it would've petered out on that. I think it would've petered out. I think it would've said, this just isn't worth it. This just isn't worth it. And I maybe would have tried some other stuff. But suddenly, you know, Christ enters the picture. And I'm now, now I'm like, wow, I can do so many good things that can help make the world a better place through content. What's up with Kevin James driving you to a monastery? What's up with that? Isn't he the best guy? I mean, I mean, who doesn't like mall cops? So he was a neighbor. So he lived near me in Encino. Okay. And we'd just be, he's just been a great influence on me. We've done four movies together. He's been just a wonderful man to me. I mean, he seems incredible. He's an amazing guy. He should do your show. Oh, that would be so fun. You guys would have a blast. He'd be so fun. He's hilarious. He's so funny. He's a wonderful, devout man. But, you know, we're just hanging out. And he was like, hey, you know, we should get your confession going. And I was like, yeah. Mall cops trying to get the confession out of you right now. I was wanting to go back to confession. And I was wanting to get everything off my soul. And it's not like, you know, we don't, we confess to Jesus through a mediator, the priest. And so I wanted to get that off my soul. I really did. It's like John 20, 22, where it talks about whose sins you forgive are forgiven, whose sins you retain are retained. And that's kind of our belief on confession. And I wanted to. Well, I think there is something powerful in like confessing to a physical person, like confess your sins to one another and you'll be healed. Yes. Like, like even, even when I like, because we're human, like if, even if I'm tempted, even if Bryce hasn't done a mistake and I like confess this temptation, it just makes Satan lose his grip over me in this area. And I, I admire, I admire the sacrament of confession in the Catholic church deeply. But I didn't mean to cut you off. No, no, it's, it's dude, it's, it is like the most freeing thing. Like it is the most freeing thing. And so he's like, hey, let's go do it. And there's a beautiful monastery, which, which we should go. You should see it, bro. It's like, it's in Silverado. It's called St. Michael's Abbey. And they built this gorgeous monastery and 60 priests live there full time. All they do is pray. They just pray. And it's like all day long, they're, they're singing, they're chanting prayers in this gorgeous old, well, it's new, but it looks old monastery. The voice is echoing out. You're in this Canyon. You're all alone in this Canyon and this beautiful church with all these priests who are like real, real men. They're not father twinkle toes. I was talking about earlier. Like they're, they're, they're real men. They'll get out and I don't know, play basketball with you, have a conversation, talk about the Bible, have a glass of wine. Like they're, they're, they're real guys. And, and so I go there, I wrote, I wrote all the sins I could possibly think of down. And I did a real examination of my conscience and I thought of everything and I went there, bro. And just like for two hours, just got it all off my chest. It was so sad. Persecutic. And, and, and to hear the words of absolution, there's these, these, these, these beautiful words, the priest prays over you when you confess, you know, but to hear the words, uh, the ministry of the church, I absolve you of your sins in the name of the father and the son and the Holy ghost to hear those words said, the absolution, like freeing. Oh, I have, I have so literally, we think we're literally freed like Catholics. Like when you confess it, you, you have gone straight to Christ. You are literally, you're forgiven. It's off of his docket. It'll never get brought up ever again. It is gone. It is struck. Like it's so, so strong. In fact, that even demons can't use that to pick at you because it is gone. It has been forgiven. The blood of Christ has washed over you. Um, and I came out of that confession, man. I was like, and I'm free. Like, uh, it was awesome, bro. It was awesome. And this beautiful place. And in that KJ drove me up and like, it was, it was freaking awesome. He's still a, a good friend. And, uh, just what a, what a wonderful man, such a wonderful man. So what is, what has being openly Christian in Hollywood cost you? I mean, at first, dude, it's, it was rough. It was rough. Lost my agents. Uh, I, um, I, you know, I walked away from a lot. I walked away from a lot. I turned down a lot of rules. I was like, I'm not, I'm just not going to do something that I think will disrespect my, my beliefs. Now we're disrespect our Lord. I'm just not going to do it. I'm not going to go near it. And it cost me a lot. It costs a lot. I lost a lot of money. Um, friends, uh, girlfriend at the time. Um, I kind of was stripped of everyone, everyone that I, that I would call a friend. I literally, I have one guy that kind of stuck around. Um, but I, I lost everyone. And, uh, but I made new friends. I found new friends. I found guys. I respected guys. I loved that were building me up in Christ. You know, I think that friendship is like an elevator. It brings you up or it brings you down. So like I made new friends and I made friends that elevated me and that challenged me, gave me great books to read and help form me in my faith and led to meeting my wife, my best friend now. And you know, we got our fourth kid on the way and, uh, so cool. Yeah. We got some others in heaven, but, uh, yeah, it's been, it's been a great, it's been a great journey, bro. And some of those people who left have now come back into the picture. They've gotten older. They've changed the way that they think. And, uh, I get texts from people. Like, Hey, just want you to know, I went to church this Sunday and I was like, Oh no way. I didn't, I would've never thought this person would, that would happen. And yeah, yeah. It's a, it's a marathon. It's not a, it's not a race. It typically seems to be the case. Like I, I, I went to think about this. I went to private Christian school and became a Christian my junior year. And by my senior year, I was the most unpopular guy. No way. In the high school. Yeah. Because like it's, you, you kind of grow a little, I don't know, cold or used to hearing about Jesus. Like, Oh yeah, Jesus on the Bible quiz this week or whatever. And you know, people want to live for themselves in the bubble of routine Monday through Friday. friday practice after school eat a meal friday night football saturday do whatever procrastinate school till sunday night like that kind of thing um but yeah like i i can i that just reminds me of so many people that gave me a hard time that have texted me back over the years or i remember this one guy had really gave me a hard time my senior year and then donated to our ministry no way like a couple years later and it was just i was blown away you know you just never know the the mark you have on people yeah especially if it's something painful at the time or like you stood on your ground or whatever that could make a huge that like i wish someone did that to me when i was i wish a good christian man stood me up and like challenged me i never had that maybe someone's listening right now and the only purpose of it is because you have someone you know or that's in your life maybe young man they need to be challenged like they they i wish i wish a man would have came up to me and like pressed me not uncharitably or not unlovingly but like pressed me yeah and like stood me up and i never i never had that you know and um so risk if it risks a confrontation okay so so be it but that'll stick with someone that'll that'll stick with someone i had a guy in my life uh baseball player actually named chili davis and uh played for the yankees and the the angels and world series winner really talented uh athlete when i was a kid he did talk to me about christ a couple times and uh i remember that i always he was the only person like that actually talked to me genuinely about christ he's i don't know what denomination he is but he's a real strong believer and um and he i remembered his words yeah i remembered his words and as i changed later in life when i had my conversion i reached out to him because i said your words actually stuck with me the things you said about christ stuck with me wow but no one else really no one else really preached to me did you ever have like an agent look at you in the face and was like yeah you're not getting this role because you're a christian or i don't know if that's the right word yeah yeah but like a um i don't know whoever does the casting or whatever yeah uh not like that not like i know you're christian you're not getting it um but uh i've had um i've had situations with roles where they really wanted me for something and i said it was against my beliefs and people were like what the heck like anyone would want this thing you need to we need to find a find out a way to make that happen you need to find a way to make that happen um and then i stopped auditioning not too long after that my brother's got the best story my brother uh he and i'll butcher it real quick i'll give the two-second version but um my brother lorenzo is an actor as well and he got this role in a show called the offer to play al pacino and uh he has always told his wife and his kids like hey you know he and our business partners he always said you know my brother and i were producing contents what we're going to do is our family business and uh we won't put nudity in anything that we do and we're going to do it we believe that you can't fake nudity that if a woman is nude she's nude and that's exposing your dignity and we want to be good to women and we're not going to do that well as an actor he gets this role in the offer with with al pacino it's a dream role we're italian like to play al pacino in the offer it's a very expensive show and um and he gets the second script and he's like about to go out there and do it and there was like full-blown sex and nudity in this and i think they since they took it out because i heard it's not in the show and i've heard the show's amazing by the way from other people and i think it's a great show and i think it's a great show and i think it's a great show and i think it's a great show and i think it's a great show um but on his conscious was i'm gonna do this show and it's got that in it and i told my kids i never do that and i'm cutting this weird i don't want to be a hypocrite and uh and so he he turned it down he he walked away from it and uh people called him and said you're never gonna audition again you're never gonna work again in this town this is a dream role this this is this is what everyone wishes they could do um and so he lost it a huge lost a bunch of money because of it and but mel gibson calls him a couple years later and gives him a role in the resurrection he's playing one of the apostles in uh in the resurrection so that's a little god wink moment where it's like you know what if you sacrifice for god if you go all in uh he will he'll he won't forget he won't forget that's so cool yeah i i always respect that a ton i've heard i've heard so many stories from different people that have faith and uh on like the things that 1-800-545-5979 i mean i've bro i've heard i've never experienced anything like a literal like yeah like a ritual where you do something like that but i know stories of people that i've known or been around that have been in situations that are very very questionable um but i've never experienced something like literal literal like that uh you know it hollywood's a tough thing man it's like you're so driven by what other people think that it's so easy to lose yourself it's so easy to sell your soul like you come here and you give up all a lot of young people when they come here they give up all their beliefs and they just go i'm going all in i'll do whatever it takes and so symbolically that's kind of like selling your soul it's kind of like saying i'm giving up on all my morals and everything that i believe in just to make it in this town and there's so much desperation in the air it's so hard to to make it in this business yeah you got to give up a lot there's a lot of desperation in there yeah that's how i've always viewed it i've never like imagined some like literal blood contract with the devil or anything but i i think you know kind of what you described was if your brother was like yeah i'm giving up on my morals and i'm going to take that role because like i don't i don't give a rip and it's a dream i'd be like okay maybe that is selling your soul because you're you know i i call it like i mean selling out you know you just sell out a little bit um but i was like i i think that stuff is so to me whenever because i've heard some interesting stories even from people that like aren't in the whatever you want to call it selling your soul illuminati or whatever you call it that i'm just like that's insane yeah insane stuff because we used to run a bible study years ago that was just for like people people that did social media or music or whatever and it was like no phones you didn't have to be a christian you could ask whatever you wanted and we we tend we we got a social media and then okay had like shifted over to like only fans and stuff like that and they would tell uh some like crazy stories of just like illuminati and stuff like that and i would be like what the heck and i'm from small town georgia where my grandma's like don't move to la it's gonna fall in the ocean you know and i'm like that's the scariest thing i heard about la and i move here and i'm like holy crap that sounds what you just said doesn't sound made up but i've never heard anything so i'm just like i've heard stuff too bro i think that stuff goes on so so i have this rule where it's like a total shift of topic i i have this rule where i only take uh relationship advice from married people oh cool and you have history of well i gotta preface this i've just always had an issue of of couples that have been dating for 30 days and then they start like a relationship account on social media and they're trying to trying to tell me like how to how to be like a good you know boyfriend girlfriend husband wife and i'm like you have never been through anything hard i can't trust anything that you're saying right now um so i've just always taken relationship advice in general from married people that's cool you've been married over 10 years you have fourth kid on the way and you've mentioned 10 heaven yeah we have some stress and miscarriages and my wife pregnancy loss yeah yeah 10 of them what is the best marriage advice that you could give me i mean i'm sure stuff you already know but i'll i'll say a few different things like um and this is all stuff i'm working on by the way this is not like i'm have some perfect marriage but this is all stuff i i work on um uh a family that prays together stays together so at the root of the marriage what is what is your prayer life what is your prayer life together as a couple what is your role as a man i think about that like principally like what is my role as the as the man in the relationship am i covering my wife in prayer am i protecting prayer am i provide because you'll hear a lot of people say provide and protect right yeah but spiritually like most important spiritually spiritually? Are you covering her in prayer? Are you covering your family in prayer? You know, God made Adam and Eve different. There are, there are different roles and responsibilities that we have. And as, as the husband, we have to be protecting our family spiritually. We have to be praying for them spiritually. So like taking your role serious, uh, from a prayer perspective with your wife, like that's, that's really, um, important. And some of it's, you know, you've probably heard some of that before, but, um, it's just like, well, what is that actually? Like, how am I actually doing that? What kind of prayers am I saying? What am I doing to contribute to my, to my family's protection and my family's safety? Um, you know, for, for me, there's certain prayers, you know, that we do as Catholics. There's a St. Michael prayer, which is a great prayer. You heard that? No, I've never heard the same. It's a St. Michael, the archangel defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him. We humbly pray and do thou a prince of the heavenly host by the God cast in hell, Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. It's pretty gangster. It's gangster. It's gangster. It is a bad prayer. There's so many beautiful prayers like that, that, that, uh, that, that we, that we have and we invoke. So like I say certain prayers that specifically help ask for God's protection. Um, there's like practical things. Like we do a Sunday talk, like I keep a little book and we talk about how our week went. It can be random stuff, you know, what was, but, but we were trying to drive it towards God ultimately, but it's like, how are you, how's your stress levels this week? What are you focusing on this week? How was your prayer life this week? Okay. You slipped off on a few days. Why is that? You know, okay. Too much of this or too much of that. And we, I just keep track of it. And my wife and I talk about it literally once a week. It's like, that is a very important thing for our marriage. It's like the once a week talk one hour, once a week. I don't know if you drink wine or anything. No, I actually don't. Okay. No stress. You don't have to have wine. You can have a glass of water, but get your favorite beverage, tea or whatever, and just sit down and like, make a thing out of it, make a little date and just talk about your week. And you talk about your stuff to her, get her advice for you as, as your wife, she knows you better than anyone. And then you, you talk to her and it's like a great way to check in because it's so easy in marriage. You'll, once you guys start having kids, it gets even harder because there's so much that pulls you away from your marriage. So much. Does your wife work? Yeah, but she works, she works remote. Okay. That's good. Once you're able to spend the time together, work and it takes you away from stuff, right? I mean, work's tearing you. Once you start having kids, that's going to pull you apart. And like, if you're not fighting for your marriage, if you're not fighting to protect your marriage, then it will split you. And, and, and if this, that's why the once a week talk is so important, like get there, get it all off your chest and keep track of your prayer life. Like, how did we do this week? Where was I praying every day? Okay. How, how, how much was I praying? And you start to think you'll start to notice trends. And even if you do it for a long enough period of time, you'll recognize seasonal changes. And that stuff's really good to be aware of, to, to protect one another. Um, and then, you know, like the sacrament of marriage, like you get special grace just from the sacrament of marriage. We felt that in our relationship through tragedy, through losing babies and through, uh, uh, miscarriages, uh, is one that's been most, we felt the sacrament the most, we've been most appreciative of the sacrament, but it has made us the strongest. Like you, tragedy will come. That's why, you know, what we, you say, uh, through sickness and health, cause stuff will happen. You know, it happens in every relationship and it's in those moments where you need the sacrament the most. It's like those moments where my wife and I, I remember when we lost our first baby afterwards, you know, Oh, she's, you know, we just get married and she's pregnant. And I, I fall to my knees. I kiss her belly. I'm so excited for life. I blessed the baby in her belly. And, and, uh, and then that night, David, something's wrong. What's wrong? I'm bleeding everywhere. What? And I get emotional. I'm talking about it. And, uh, in those moments, um, is where you need the sacrament the most. And it's like, so don't forget about the sacrament, that grace. Cause after that, I remember we said to each other after that all passed, went to the hospital and yeah, it was a miscarriage. And I remember, um, in that moment I said to her, like, no matter what, this will be a victory for Christ, no matter what, because we're going to fall more in love and we're going to bleed into each other and lean into each other. And that night we just held each other all night long. And, uh, that those moments have helped strengthen our relationship significantly. So it's like when tragedy comes pour into each other, because is it the devil? Is it God who's responsible? You're going to get tempted with all these questions, right? But no matter what the victory is becoming holier as a couple, that is a victory for Christ, no matter what. So it's like when, when, when, when tragedy strikes, don't forget, this is a moment where you can, you can grow holier. You can both grow holier. Um, would you say, I mean, I mean, in, in your marriage, like the miscarriages is the hardest thing that you guys had to walk through. Oh, for sure. And, and you said you've had 10 miscarriages. Wow. Yeah. I asked my, I asked my wife this the other day, I said, uh, well on our anniversary, this past one, I said, uh, what would you go back and tell yourself on your wedding night? And she said, um, Maria, you're going to have, you're, you're going to have the best life ever and the saddest. Um, and she said, that was it. And I was like, unpack that for me. And she's like, I never would have thought we'd lose all these babies. I never would have thought that we'd lose, lose all this life. Um, but it, but it is, you know, it has ultimately strengthened our relationship and I'm not, my wife is full of joy and she's a wonderful woman, but, uh, that's tough. That's tough for a woman to deal with. Tough for me to deal with, but especially tough for her because it's her body. I mean, gosh, the first baby you said you bless. Oh yeah. Bless the, oh, I fell on my knees. I grabbed her hips. I kissed her belly immediately. And that night, is it that night? And did you do that for every single kid? Yeah. I mean, it's a life. I mean, no matter what, that's a baby. So it's like, yeah, yeah, no, the baby's in a better place. And my mind is just like, man, I think, is it there? I think there was a statistic like one in four women like struggle with miscarriages. No one talks about this, but, but to think, I've never heard a number like 10. I mean, man, I, I have, and dude, we saw a dot. We saw doctors. It's not like we're doctors all over the U S we've flown into this doctor. We've flown into that doctor. We've purposely done, you know, NFP natural family planning. Yeah. It's like you avoid fertility days or whatever. We've had to do all that to try not to get pregnant. And then right when we think we're fine, the doctor's like, all right, go for it. You're good. Another one happens. And it's like, you know, it's, it's tough, man. It's tough, but we do, you know, we have our fourth child on the way. And that, that one's kind of a miraculous story. Cause she had like six in a row after seeing doctors for the past four years. Six miscarriages in a row and a second trimester miscarriage, which means we got to actually bury the baby. Typically they happen in the first, right? Yeah. Second trimester. She had an ectopic pregnancy. So that's a fallopian tube had to get removed. She was bleeding out. I mean, my wife has been through the ringer, the ringer and more women than you'd think go through this a lot more than you'd think go through multiple miscarriages. Um, but prayer works, bro. Prayer works. We were, we, I just did the show called, uh, seeking beauty in Spain. And I randomly get booked on this, uh, well, I have to preface too, cause you guys are gonna think I'm crazy Catholic, like Catholics. We don't, we don't, I don't worship saints. Okay. We don't, we don't worship saints. We like, like, cause I, I wasn't, you venerate the saints and they're, and they're in heaven. Saints are in heaven and they're alive, right? It's like ask, it's like me asking David to pray for me. Yes. You're alive. I'm alive. I ask you to pray for me. You asked me to pray for you. It's fine. We just ask them to pray for us. All right. So don't be thrown off by the story. So I, this is just what happened to my wife. Like it's miraculous. We go to, um, we go to shoot this show called seeking beauty in Spain. And I randomly get the production books and Airbnb next to this monastery that, uh, this Carmelite nun named St. Teresa of Avila, who's a beautiful nun with a beautiful story, wonderful woman of God heart for Christ who helped do a lot of good things in Spain to say it briefly. Um, and I got, I got put right next to her monastery. Like I'm sharing a wall. Airbnb shares a wall with her monastery and we're hearing church bells and it's beautiful. And I was like, Oh, what a nice little moment that I get put next to one of the monasteries that she helped build in this town called Sevilla. I thought that was cool. And I'm interviewing someone for this show the next day. And this, this husband and wife, this husband has a fertility issues. He can't have babies, get an operation or something from a bike accident. And he can't have children. And I meet him and his wife and she said, Oh yeah, I married him anyway. Cause I believe we could provide. And, and they have told me there are five children, five biological children, and all the children look like the dad is a hundred percent legit, a hundred percent legit. And I'm like, what five children, how does this work? And, um, they said, St. Teresa of Avila. And I went, what? And in the town of Sevilla, they have this, like one of St. Teresa's from like 500 years ago, her prayer cloak. And, um, you know, there's different references in the Bible of, uh, items from holy people, like Paul, like Paul and stuff like that. Exactly. Doing miraculous things. Right. And, um, and so they have her cloak and, and in this town for 500 years, anyone who's having fertility issues, praise to Christ through the intercession of St. Teresa of Avila. And they put this cloak on and there's like tons of babies in this town now. Right. And so they tell me they put on this fertility cloak on the dude and her, and they have five kids. And I was like, where is this cloak? Bring me the cloak. And so I, I go to the address and it happens to be the place right next door to where I'm staying. It's like that very place. Whoa. And I got hit with a double whammy. So I, I find the mother superior, the, the nun, she gives me the cloak. I put it on my wife. I can send you, I'll send you a picture of it if you want to. It's a nice little image. And I put it on my wife and we pray and we had a priest there praying over us. And we just, I just, we prayed that through the intercession of St. Teresa of Avila, like she would pray for us to get God's grace to have a baby. And the very next morning I go to this town called Avila and the very first monastery that St. Teresa of Avila ever founded. And no one had been in there in like 500 years. Like they let Pope St. John Paul II go in and then that was it. And then like me, and they let us go in for the show and the mother superior, here's my story and the miscarriages and everything. And there was this little bell and this is the bell that Teresa rang when she opened up her first monastery. So she said, John Paul II, the one of the former popes rang this, Teresa rang it when she first opened this 500 years ago. And she's like, I want you to ring it. And she's like, it's just don't, the ringing is the thing, but you need to have faith. She goes, you need to have faith. She said, ring it and pray. And you need to have faith and trust that Teresa cares about your soul and cares about what's best for you up in heaven right now. And ask her what you need. And she'll speak to our Lord. She's really close to him. She'll speak to our Lord. And I was skeptical. And I was like, oh, you don't understand what I've been through. And then I was like, I need to have faith. I looked in her eyes. She had so much faith that I borrowed her faith. And she rubbed off on me and I rang this thing and I'm praying, please, Jesus, through intercession of Teresa of Avila, please give us a baby. And I ring the thing. Six weeks later on Christmas day, my wife brings the pregnancy test. And that's this baby that'll be born in 10 days. Eblis, Leberkizumab LBKZ, a 250 milligram per two milliliter injection is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 88 pounds or 40 kilograms with moderate to severe eczema. This is my last trip, bro. I'm going home tomorrow. I'm like, what in the world? That's amazing. Going home first thing tomorrow. Okay. Okay. Praise God. Dude, that's awesome. Isn't that amazing? That's a wild story. We didn't change anything. Like nothing changed. We were seeing doctors doing everything, 60 scourges in a row. And then these two stories that I tell you. And now we have the baby and the baby will be here in 10 days. It's so amazing. And so I got to ask, because I know you've written this children's book. Yes. You have four, fourth kid on the way, 10 in heaven. And then with this big heart that you just have for 10 days. Yeah. And then you have a baby. And then you have a child actors as well. Actors and actresses. Like, can you tell me a little bit about the importance of this book and why you wrote it? Yes. So this, um, this is my son and my son, James, who's five, very inquisitive kid. I can't wait for you out of kids. Cause they're just, they're going to, they're going to make you, do you really, they're going to get you with such simple little questions that it's going to make you go, Oh yeah, that's, that's really good. Yeah. I would explain this concept or how to explain God. Like it's a hard to do for your kids. You know, way of putting things simply, but my, my five-year-old, you know, he goes to church with us every Sunday and he goes three times a week to church with my wife and he's learning about God. And, and, uh, he just comes up to me with all these questions and he, and it's always, is God bigger? And then he says stuff like, Papa, is God bigger than New York city? And I'm like, Oh, buddy, it's a cute question. Yes, he is. And here's why here's how big God is. Well, Papa, is God bigger than a Megalodon? Even a Megalodon. Yeah, buddy, even bigger than a Megalodon. And is God bigger than a five? And, and he just asked all these questions and I'd write all these down. And then eventually my wife and I were like, Hey, let's put this in a book. Like this is a book. And we, we rhyme a response. So like, is God bigger than the dark? Yeah. Right. Yes. His light can never die. It breaks the night and fills the sky when shadows fall and fears appear. He stays beside you to keep you near. And then we have a Bible verse. So everyone has a Bible verse and I purposely don't spell it out because at the end of the book, I tell the reader, turn this into a Bible study with your kid, pick his favorite image, open up your Bible. And ultimately I want this to be a way people can get to know scripture better because it's an interactive way. Like if this is your favorite kid's image with the campfire and whatnot, go to John 8, 12 and like dive into the scripture and it'll correlate to this image. And it's a way to get to know your, your Bible better. And so for me, I'm like, it teaches you a little something about the omnipotence of God, his omnipresence. And, and it turns into a little, little Bible study, you know? Well, I love the, I love the Bible study. I love the Bible study. I love the art on the front. It actually looks like a book that you would, that I would grab back in like primary school. Yes. That was the point now, now like stuff nowadays, just the art looks weird. It's all AI and stuff like that. So I, I, I like the art already. Thank you, bro. We wanted it to be like a classic. Like my wife loves, my wife literally buys vintage kids books. Like she loves old kids books for the way it looks, the way it looks, the way it smells, the art. She doesn't like the too modern or abstract to your AI looking like you're saying, like she loves stuff that feels real. Yeah. So for us, we're like, oh, we want like a Norman Rockwell kind of look and feel. So like, you know, there's this one with the dinosaur that's pretty cute. So like we wanted something that felt kind of classic and almost like Amblin-y. So we, we brought in some different styles with this thing to make it, uh, and oh, the, the, this one is my son's favorite. The monster truck is God bigger than a monster truck. And, uh, yeah, so we, we tried to make it have a, a timeless feel. Oh, I love that. That's amazing. Yeah. We need to raise our children up. Lord, we need to raise Willen when I, when I have a bunch of babies one day. You're going to love it, bro. Raise them. You're going to love it. And we're pumped. We're, we're excited and just, yeah, I don't know. Is it whenever God wants you guys planted it out or? Yeah, we're, we're, we're, we've been having a bunch of conversations about it. So we're, we're just pumped and excited and really looking forward. Taylor, bro, you're never ready. I don't think I was even ready to get married. Like I dated Maddie for two years proposed and I'm literally telling myself in my head, like I got a grip. On dating Maddie. Like I know what it means to serve her, love her. And like three weeks in, I'm like, I am so selfish. Like it is unreal. Like I got to do a big heart check right now. What's the beautiful part about marriage is you're, you're marrying your sanctifier. Like she's going to sanctify you. You're going to say, and the kids sanctify the living daylights out of you. Well, granted I had never, I've never been married before, you know? So I also have to now consider somebody else's needs, physical and emotional and spiritual needs above mine. So yeah, maybe that plays a little bit into the selfishness aspect for sure. And getting used to it. And we've, we've only been married eight months. That's awesome. So, so like nothing too crazy, but I mean just, and I will say like, you know, I get, I think one of the reasons why I typically wouldn't take the advice from people that weren't married is because they are never, they never really go through hard things together. And a few months after Maddie and I started dating, I think within two months of us dating, she lost a relative and we immediately jumped into like a relationship. Like going through something hard together. And that like expedited my journey into her heart a little bit going like, oh man, like we just, I mean, you just lost a relative that like I've met and that I love and it's hard, you know? And so like, yeah, I, I just admire and respect you and your wife a ton. Thank you, bro. And even everything that you've been through, like writing a book for kids and the way I just, I admire it. This has been a great outlet. For her and I too, like, especially all the miscarriage stuff and everything. This has been a really fun outlet. I'm very thankful to my Ascension Press folks because they let my wife and I really play and really, it's been a great outlet for us. Like our Sunday talk is like working on the book and then having a glass of wine. And yeah, it's been, it's been good, bro. It's been good. I'll pray for you and your wife. I pray that God gives you babies when it makes sense. And they're, it's a gift, man. Exactly what you're saying about pouring into each other. Like the kids expedite that like crazy. It's like the time there, there's never a good time for it. It's, it's a, but it does, it opens your hearts into each other even deeper. Good, bad, and ugly, but you get in there. Dude, I am so grateful you came on. Seriously. Thank you. I would love if you would just to pray for everyone watching and listening. Like say it now? Yeah. Would you be down? Oh, sweet. Yeah. Never done this before. My first public prayer. We close. We, are you serious? Yeah. Dude, we, we always close every time. Typically with the, uh, either past. If we have like a Christian guest on, I always like pass it off. And then if not, if we have a non-Christian on, then. I'll pray, but I would love for you to pray for everyone watching and listening, if that's cool. I'm happy to. Amazing. Okay. In the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, amen. Heavenly Father, we thank you for bringing us together today. We pray that anything that was said of you may find its way to the person who needed to hear it out there.
