1215: Day 3 of the '26 Presidents Cup

The U.S. team is in a precarious position heading into the singles matches of the 2026 President’s Cup after a dramatic collapse in the early sessions. The international team, led by strong performances from new stars like Jackson Coivin and Chris Goddard, now holds an eight-point lead, fueled by aggressive, high-stakes play on the challenging Medina course. The venue’s dramatic slopes and tight pin placements created unforgettable moments, such as Ryan Fox’s risky shot and Sam Burns’ clutch birdies, making the golf exceptionally engaging. However, the U.S. team shows signs of disarray, with players like Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas appearing out of sync, possibly due to fatigue, lack of team chemistry, or poor preparation. The commentary highlights a deeper cultural issue: the U.S. team lacks the leadership, energy, and cohesion needed to compete at this level. Strategic benching of top players is seen as a viable option, especially to target weaker opponents in singles. Despite the disappointment, there’s growing belief that the U.S. may need structural changes in team management and player development to avoid repeating such failures. The match remains highly unpredictable, with the potential for a stunning reversal, but the current momentum favors the international team. Ultimately, the event underscores the need for a cultural shift in how Team USA approaches team golf, moving beyond individual excellence to team synergy and shared accountability.

Be the right club. Be the right club today. Johnny, that's better than most. How about him? That is better than most. Better than most! Expect anything different? I'm going to be excited to be there for what I hope is a historic day tomorrow. Great to be with you, Sully. And back with us for the first time this week. He's been waiting in the bullpen like Christian Bezadenholt. Mr. Big Randy. Hello, Big. How are you? Oh, boys. If I was any better, they'd be hauling me off to jail right now. A little bit of a jump scare seeing my face so big on the screen. So apologies to the viewers here. That's how all of us feel all the time. How tall are you, man? That's huge. But it's great to be here. Enjoyed the G today. Deed, you got to get with an earshot of this win one for the Gipper speech. That may or may not be going tomorrow. Sounds like I'm going to have a good amount of time to wiggle my way in there. 15, 20 minute speech. I think we can. Yeah. Interested. We will get there. We're going to do a quick react to the day Saturday at the President's Cup. We're going to hear from Big. Just overall reaction to the week so far. I haven't heard from him. We'll break down morning four ball matches. Of course, the afternoon foursomes. By then, we'll probably have the singles matches out. We got some Amsterdam takes in there. You know, we got it. We got it all here. The first couple of segments here, though, are going to be brought to you ad free by Titleist, the most played driver on the PGA Tour and the most played driver this week at Medina. Big, where are we at? Where are we at with the 2026 President's Cup? Big picture. What's the big story in your mind? And have you been enjoying it so far? Uh, yeah. OK, let's start with the last one. I did enjoy it. Listen, I'm not going to lie to folks. I, you know, didn't catch a ton of live coverage Thursday, Friday, had some family stuff. We were flying back late yesterday evening. So let me get that out of the way today. Honestly, watched all I don't know, felt like twenty nine hours of coverage. I know it wasn't that long, but was on the couch, was locked in. And I was really curious. The. International team coming in with the lead today in a unlikely spot. How would they respond? And I was really impressed with the medal. I thought I thought the internationals, you know, set themselves up, did what they had to today to experience glory, perhaps tomorrow. I think it sets up a really fun Sunday where Team USA has to be in a real chase position. We haven't seen that. You know, we hardly ever see that in this event. And so it just gives it a little juice. You know, I like seeing some of the new faces. I like seeing Jackson Coivin. I like seeing Chris Goddard up. Didn't like seeing some of the stale faces. We can get into all that. But my other big takeaway, I thought Medina was lovely. I really enjoyed watching the golf course, watching the guys hit shots all around the golf course. I especially loved, you know, when NBC would show us how dramatic. Some of the slopes are around the greens. I, you know, when, when, when it gets flat from the tower view, it really washes those out. But man, there were some really interesting runoffs that the long par threes on the back. I just found the golf course engaging, which necessitated, you know, interesting shots, which held my attention. I think as far as president's cups go, sign me up for this one. I'm struggling to remember one. I, you know, the bar is low, but I I'm, I'm more into this one. And perhaps it's because I took a couple of days off on the front end. You're well rested. Yeah. But, but I really am interested to see what happens tomorrow. I think we have a fascinating Sunday on our hands. Yeah. I think there's a gosh, first, I just maybe shut down the pod, big bottom line it on that, on everything. That's all I call it. I love it. I was expecting gasoline on this us fire. Really? It was just, it was all, you know, I thought we were going to burn. This thing down tonight. That's kind of what I was going to say. So I'll start there in, you know, when you're, you're going to go on vacation and you look at the weather forecast and it just looks like perfect. You're like, man, we got such a good week ahead of us. That's how I feel with the takes right now. It's just like, man, it's just, it's stacked up. We've got this next year is going to be so fucking great. Like we could just, we could talk Ryder cup. We could talk what's wrong with America, Scotty Scheffler. Should he have sat? I mean, it's just, it's just 10 out of 10, uh, from a, uh, American shot in Florida situation. So, so there is that, uh, I think there's, it's very easy. Uh, I'm thankful very often. I'm a victim of this very often, uh, of the narrative, you know, and the narrative is like, is the president's cup good or bad? Is the, do the internationals need to win or lose? Do the, are the Americans competent or not competent? You know, blah, blah, blah. If you, I think I did a good bit of suspending a lot of that this week. Uh, and just kind of enjoying the golf and the golf's been really good this morning. Especially it was like as fun of a team session of golf as I've watched in years. Like it was, it was really, really, really great, man. Just haymakers from both teams, big shots and big moments, great holes, risk reward. Medina has just a million do or die moments that just make every match interesting. I mean, I know that's like the number one kind of talking point this week, but I just can't count how many times today where you'd see like the Ryan Fox shot, just bounding. You're like, Oh my God, I'm like, I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't know what I'm going to do. That ball's rolling back to his feet. That's Medina. That's nuts. Uh, and it's just, I'm, I'm giddy, man. Thankful for it. It's just been a, it's been a great, great week. I heard the words lay up pitch because of, you know, the slope they couldn't possibly get it too close to the, you know, they, they couldn't get it close to the green. Yeah, exactly. Like, give me, give me that. That's what, that's what makes this interesting. Like start from there and then we're going to see, yeah, the golf has to be interesting. If you start with an interesting venue and then you throw in like the Washington generals might win and it's just like, Oh yeah, get me to the first tee tomorrow. I can't wait. This is amazing. I'll say this too. I mean, they did a great job, especially with the four ball setup, uh, this morning in particular. Those par threes on the back nine were like, Hey, why don't you make a par and you got a shot here? It was like, you know, the most boring version of four ball was like, yeah, you both hit the soft green and there's kind of some long putts and maybe one guy out of four will make one. But like when you are like, maybe one of you guys can launch a ball high enough in the air to hold this green. And if you do go a little bit long to the back left hole location on 13, like Jackson Quiven did, it goes all the way down the slope, uh, you know, and the watching. And he's like, I'm not going to be able to get it close to that front pin. I'm going to be able to get it close to that front pin and make the mistake on 16, uh, to that front pin, uh, because of how precise they had to be and how firm that green was and how hard that and demanding that shot was, was like credit to the tour for that one. We're going to, we're going to poke at the tour for a couple other things, uh, a little later, I'm sure, but they have done a great job being aggressive with pins. There was a lot of de-greening today. Um, they do a little better with the camera angles, bringing these slopes alive, I think, because it is really, really, really dramatic on some of these. And, um, it is meeting that it's meeting the, you know, the, the rubber's meeting the road here is turned in terms of match play tests for these guys, creating an interesting scenario. So I think it was, uh, I think it was 13 with the Quiven match this morning where it was just four different balls. It was like, man, do you know how far away those four balls are from each other? You know, like that never happens. It's always like, well, there's clearly a safe spot to just miss over here. And some of those part threes were just like, hang on for, for dear life, man. And you've got to navigate what, what's going to happen. And what's going to happen on the ground and what's going to happen with that first bounce. And it kept getting the firmness kind of ended up becoming a little bit of a story. I mean, especially like you saw Russ Henley's drive on 17 in the afternoon. It just like took off. Like it hit a tarmac. Uh, I don't know where the ass, the 1400 ass captains were about maybe like, Hey, the course is firming up. Uh, but neither here nor there it's, uh, yeah, I don't know. So a million directions we can go. Lots of, lots of fun stuff to talk about. Let me, let me just throw in one more. Which I know we'll get to, but something top of mind for me is the international sending five guys out for all four sessions already. You know, it kind of reminds me of a formula one where you're trying to do the math. Will they have enough gas? Do are the tires going to hold up? You know, I, I think on a, on a golf course like Medina, where you really have to be locked in, it's, it's demanding. I think that could be, you know, the, the, the stamina, both physically, mentally. It could be. It could be a factor tomorrow, which again, just, just toss that on the pile of things that are interesting and could be a potential storyline tomorrow, which is where I think we usually. see play out like there's a there's a big international surge and then the u.s depth kind of just wears them down and wears them down and they kind of had a chance to do that in both sessions today and just didn't you know like they had a u.s could have could have taken advantage of that fatigue or lack of depth or whatever uh and just didn't they didn't get the eight points that they looked like they should have gotten you know it ended up getting much less and they find themselves trailing by three going into uh into singles i think trailing going to singles for the first time since uh 2019 which was the the vaunted uh royal melbourne year first time leading going into singles on american soil ever uh i think the u.s has only lost singles three times in the history of this event uh but they've never like it never gets like crazy crazy lopsided in in singles i gotta i gotta double check this i know there's been some eight fours but it's usually like a six six seven five like it's it's usually pretty close so i think we're in for a really really really good day tomorrow it uh as it stands now the internationals are minus 120 to win u.s plus 165 with a tie possibility at plus 700 um so and then data golf has the internationals live internationals are at least favored at this point i thought they might not be so they improved their odds today they were 52 percent uh i'm sorry 54 percent to start the day they ended it at 58 it did flip mid-afternoon when there's a lot of red on the board in foursomes uh that the u.s was i think as high as 58 percent and then in the the henley um bridgman match that they that they choked away was the flip uh to put it back into the internationals i mean the internationals are five points away uh from winning this thing and you know you go five and seven in singles tomorrow and there's some guys on the u.s side you could kind of target in this for again with this unique format if you can pick essentially who you're putting up some of these guys up against there's a few guys you can target with some of your best players and essentially not guarantee of course but give yourself some pretty nice advantages um in uh in singles and find a way to get five points i i said last night i think the internationals do get it done and i maintain that i think they are going to win this president's cup which is going to be glorious like it's going to be glorious and free it's truly it's going to be glorious uh i know we can maybe save some of this for if and when that happens but so i just love for you to connect for me the listener connect the how did we get here from tuesday they shouldn't even play this because it's so embarrassing these guys shouldn't even show up it's humiliating that they're making them play this event one podcaster i said saw that they should play two on one uh it's just help me get from there to like obviously i think they're gonna win what what what i don't think what happened i don't think it's obvious i think it's it's the u.s could still win this which would be worst case scenario because i think it would be like oh we won we got this we're fine let's keep doing it the way we're doing it but uh we got here i mean through one of the worst collapses i can recall and it says a lot for what this u.s team has done here over the last competitive race doing this yeah uh worst collapses imaginable here over the last two days i mean they were up three to two they have the much better team i can't believe it on you know when it comes to rider cups the u.s versus europe they usually have the advantage on paper but it's pretty close and like there's enough evidence to say europe should be favored in these things now uh based on how they put it all together there was no evidence pointing to the internationals pulling this off and making this happen or the u.s team performing this poorly uh in big moments um i i think we when we look back we are there's there's some nitpicking we can do with sneds uh he admitted to making some mistakes in a post-round interview here today didn't it didn't say exactly what they were but i mean at all time bed shitting in foursomes they went two and six and foursomes in the two sessions they are now eight and 26 uh in their uh the last four team events in foursomes um so it's four stats whatever you want though crooked stats is uh is sneds good it's that's good just in like is he good he doesn't seem to be good he should be doing very well it is not exuding a lot of confidence seems a little a little wiped yeah yeah and i don't this isn't the format that gets you super wiped like the rider cup version where you're up super early friday and saturday is exhausting but like you get to sleep in both thursday and friday this is the only early day i don't know what you're doing being this way i know it's a busy week but you got to exude some kind of i don't know positive energy from that spot and it just doesn't work doesn't seem to be happening but also like what surrounded yourself with gary woodland and keegan and just like a bunch of dudes that don't know how to win this thing like what were you expecting to happen there but no to answer your question i thought the talent gap was big enough that it really didn't matter if they got all the team stuff right and uh i thought they would overwhelm them i thought scotty could show up as a zombie and still win matches uh against players that you know are even close to the same caliber of him and that was wrong that was most certainly a wrong prediction there that i'm not even upset about having uh because i just i i know last year was bad at the rider cup but i just did not know we could reach a level of humiliation this deep the uh which again i'll put my hand up and get way out in front it's not like i was predicting them to win or anything like that i was i was very much happy making jokes about how lopsided this event is and and whatever as well uh the fact that the internationals have have gotten their guys good and again it's it's what we say about europe how do they get that out of bob mcintyre how do they get that out of like it's the same thing here how are they getting these guys to jail this way how are they getting all of these other things and then you do that with an event that is kind of like this made-up cash grab in an event where again a bunch of the guys don't speak the same language in an event where like they just have all these like disadvantages and you still get like that is just a massive credit to you know we've we've shouted it out every year and we'll shout it out again tomorrow win or lose but the the stuff ernie l's put into place trevor put into place jeff ogilvy's clearly like continuing this this continuity and kind of lineage and like hey if we're gonna do this thing let's fucking do it like let's let's treat it like a real thing let's build like a culture let's let's make it like each year leads to the next and in my i think in the back of my head i was always like yeah i mean keep trying man but like i don't think it's gonna work uh but it's cool that you're that you're giving an effort and then you see it like this you're just like dude i don't know what else it is other than then like i don't know what else it is other than that i don't know what what else you you give credit to it's amazing imagine being the u.s side and having this happen from europe yeah and the internationals and it being laid out right in front of you kids who are wrong still can't figure out how to do it that still can't do it not even in the ballpark of figuring out exactly what you just described what the international has set up and national team has set up so it uh yeah the reds take some of this why aren't we the brewers why aren't we the euros yeah why isn't team usa the brewers i know man i i can't help but think like a loss by the u.s team and maybe an an embarrassing loss i mean i think any loss will be somewhat embarrassing but if they kind of get you know if they lose i don't know 17 and a half 12 and a half let's say tomorrow like is that rock bottom does that necessitate some real legitimate change because that's i feel like that has to come into play and i'm almost weirdly rooting for that you know like i don't know what else is going to be a catalyst like yo we got to make some changes here this is the part where the constant annual cycle of this for the u.s hurts them of like the rider cup cycle has already started they've already you know they've named assistant captains they have stats guys in place like it you know jim furik is an assistant captain on this team so it's not like you can't learn from this but already wheels are too far in motion to the point where i'm like oh do i think like justin leonard who's an incoming assistant captain on the next team do i think that's like part of the solution absolutely not like not even like it's more of the same mistakes over and over again so they you know it to your point i wish i wish the timelines worked out better that they could do these full resets with the with the time you know they should have done it after beth page as well though i mean and they they didn't learn their lesson then so i'm not positive like i said this last night they could lose this and i'm still not positive they will like wave the white flag and declare that they need some help in doing this because it is just generation upon generation of people that have lost these events uh and that i keep keep getting to run them and i i i'm done i know i'm done picking them for rider cups i didn't know i had to start considering the president's cup that's how low we've gotten man which is so crazy sorry to to draw the comparison to our beloved reds which we're joking about but yeah when when you just lose faith all together in the leadership and the decision makers like that's that's the worst that's that's the worst place to be as a fan which is where i was i was talking to you guys about this a little bit before we started too and it's I don't know, not to get too far afield here, but. The U.S. is in such a weird spot with this particular event because I think you feel it on social media or just in our podcasts or whatever. I just don't know why you would watch this and root for the U.S. And I don't mean that as some anti-patriotic, very patriotic guy, big. But being patriotic, I feel like, is going to a national park or going to, I don't know, watching baseball. Lots of things. Paying your taxes. I don't feel patriotic watching the PGA Tour say that this is what Team USA is. Yeah, I'm like, guys, I think this is a made-up thing. You're not going to guilt me. And for God bless America in the seventh inning, I'm like, I just want this thing to take me out to the ballgame, man. Yeah, you're not going to guilt me. You're not going to guilt me into rooting for these guys. But I think the counterweight to that is the Euros and the internationals both are just like, man, wouldn't it be great to go beat those fucking guys? Right. You know? That's such an. Such an easy target. And I just. I'm like, at my wit's end a little bit, I'm like, if I was the czar of Team USA, which there is no czar of Team USA, probably part of the problem, I would just struggle with like, man, I don't know what you do. It's just kind of a. It's just a really weird spot right now. I don't know how you can possibly be like, hey, guys, can you care more? Please? Can anybody. Can you care more? Short of just like humiliation tactics of just like, right, we're not going to. We're going to do the US hockey. We're just going to bring college players next time and get our ass kicked. I mean, I think, again, I think it would be a. If I was named czar tomorrow, I think it would be a multiple year long process of I would contact Steve Kerr. I would contact Coach K. I would learn philosophy here of like, you've taken teams that go do. All these players that go do something else every other day of the year. Completely different process. And you've made them. You've made them buy in and care about Team USA basketball when they're there. And they did that through getting the absolute 100% commitment and energy and role play of Kobe, LeBron, like all of these superstar, megastar players that like when Kobe was out there guarding Leandro Barbosa and diving on the floor for loose balls and giving 100% effort on defense, you're damn right Carmelo Anthony's going to go play his role. Like it's really easy to fall in line when you've got superstar players bringing the energy and being leaders, being almost playing captains. And that's what I just feel like is missing. Because like it has to be, you got to go and it might take a year worth of meetings and time spent, but you've got to make Scottie care to that level, which he clearly does not. Like, and it's unfair probably at this point to put that on Scottie because there's no one drawing that out of them. There's no one. Like Brant Snedeker all week has just talked about making sure the guys are comfortable. And they're the best players in the world. I just got to stay out of their way. They're savages. And they're great guys. And he's super proud of them. Like that's decidedly not it. This tournament is different. These tournaments are different. You have to start treating them differently or shit like this is going to happen. And look, you can point to the President's Cup record and say like, oh, this is pretty convenient. You're saying this now. They're about to be like, they're 13-1-1 in this event, like whatever. But they're playing a massively inferior opponent. It's getting worse. Like the talent gap is getting wider. And you just. I don't know how you can get much lower than this point. And I don't. I still, no matter how clear it becomes, don't ever hear anyone talking about the things that I just laid out. And if you guys disagree with that, if anybody disagrees with that, I'd like to hear the counter to that. I'd like to just hear, no, it's just about. It's just about the golf, man. Like they just got to play better. I think we do hear that counter a lot. They made a lot of putts, man. I don't know what to tell you. And I'll say just to put a bow on that point with USA Basketball, you know, the 2004 Summer Olympics, I believe, was like the disaster Olympics that you need a real embarrassment. Like you need a true rock bottom. You'd have to lose the Ryder Cup at home or something like that. And your fans would have to be a disgrace. And it would have to be really. Something that would never happen. But yeah, the problem is you have two different organizations running these two different. So there's that, which is a massive problem. But I do think, like I said, getting kind of embarrassed by the internationals this week might be that catalyst. Or it might not be. But it's a chance. It's interesting. Yeah. I'll tell you that. Either way, I'll be here. I'll be watching and I'll be drinking. Because no matter the forecast, you can live like the sun's always out with High Noon. High Noon is made with real vodka, real tequila, unlike other popular seltzer and hard tea brands delivering a clean finish and refreshing taste. High Noon is available in vodka. Seltzer, tequila seltzer, and non-carbonated vodka iced tea. All under 100 calories. And with crisp, delicious flavors for every occasion under the sun. What are you waiting for? Text your friends. Make some plans. Pick up a pack of High Noon on the way. Visit highnoonspirits.com to find High Noon near you. High Noon. Sun's up. You know what? I'm trying to bring some passion tonight. So I got passion fruit tequila here. If I'm going to ask for some passion out of these players, I'm going to need to bring some of my own. There you go. These are changes. Be the change. Be the change. I'm a little, yeah, the Kobe thing's funny just because, like, man, I don't, yeah, I think maybe we just don't have one of those. I think that's probably part of the problem. I don't know if there's, like, a Kobe lying in wait on that U.S. team that's just, like, waiting to get woken up. But I could be wrong there. But, Randy, I did want to ask, outside of having the JT conversation again, which is probably the closest comp, but, Randy, I did want to ask about Scotty because this is your guy, of course. I'm curious your thoughts on just kind of what we're. The Scotty phenomenon. I was talking about it last Thursday night and saying, like, just how much it can't be a coincidence that him and Tiger seem to be, like, the only, I guess maybe Phil a teeny tiny bit, but Phil still won a lot of these matches, too. But they seem to be the only two that kind of suffer from this same invincible and individual 72-hole events. And totally inept in some team events. I'm curious your thoughts on Scotty, the team golfer. Yeah, I mean, I don't. Let me just preface all of this. I don't know shit for shit. So, but I think it is interesting. I think it's really interesting. I guess if I were kind of power ranking my own pet hypotheses, I would probably go in this order. End of the year. And Scotty grinds like nobody else week after week. When he shows up, he grinds famously, like, doesn't mail it in hardly ever, right? So I think some of it, new dad, young kids, blah, blah, blah, blah. I think there could just be fatigue right now with Scotty. My second hypothesis, you train and you compete 51 weeks out of the year as an individual. And then you're thrown into this team environment and you're just expected to not miss a beat. And I think there's a little bit of. I don't know, like tennis, right? You throw the best tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, if you throw him into a doubles environment, it's not a guarantee that he's going to. It's not a guarantee that he's going to. Just be the best doubles player and win all the doubles matches. So I just think there's this. The Hal Sutton school. Yeah, well, I just think there's this little bit of, you know, it's a different environment and it just affects. It's a little voodoo. It's a little woo-woo, but I don't know what exactly is causing that, except for there's certainly something going on. And then my third, third hypothesis would be like President's Cup specifically. And it's hard to say this about the Ryder Cup, but just like not that important as some other things are, perhaps. But outside of that, I don't know. Maybe fourth is like, it's all just a big freaking coincidence and it's random and this is how it's fallen out. But I guess those were all the things I was thinking about today as I pondered that question. And so I don't know how those. I don't know how those different hypotheses find you. I love that I'm equally confused. I don't know the answer. It's fascinating to me. I think it's one of the most interesting things going in golf right now. And I look at it, I'm just like, man, you put Nick Taylor and Scotty Scheffler in the middle of the same fairway right now with the President's Cup on the line tomorrow. And I'm like, ooh, who do I think is going to hit a better shot? I'm like, I don't know if you want the answer to that question, but like. I don't know if I'm ready for that. Like, he's not a better golfer than Scotty Scheffler. Like, Ian Polder's not a better golfer than Tiger Woods. How does this stuff happen? And I think it's like this weird. I don't know, maybe this is a leap, but I know, Randy, I know you're on this block with me. All pro sports have just gotten like so fucking optimized. And so just everything has to. Everything is like getting compressed and compressed and compressed to the pure essence of like, how do you squeeze out one. millimeter more than the other person. And I just loved it. team golf at least seems like one spot where i'm just like man can't put my finger on that that's crazy that guy just i think that guy just wants it more i don't i don't know i don't know what to say i know he's better than him but he keeps beating his ass is like i i don't know but that's kind of the reason to watch i think and so scotty i'm sorry you're a victim of that but that's uh god it's kind of one of the great things i think we got we got going if you if you look at it right and that's where the the sentiment i've heard is like you know people keep saying like scotty's a marathon runner this isn't a marathon it's like okay yes you you run a certain pace when you run a marathon but like scotty signed up for like a 200 meter relay like he that's you don't just show up to the 200 meter relay and run your marathon it's a different race you're playing a different game here like you and you've got the number like you're running the race like you're gonna do it like you might as well treat it differently and that's where like we've seen bad rider cups from roy mcelroy we've seen bad rider cups from justin rose we've seen like these these lions these great men that have put up these great rider cups we've seen that dip but never at any point in any of their worst moments of these team events has it have they looked disinterested have they looked like you like it has it ever felt reasonable to question their motivation and their intensity and their dedication to the event like not once and maybe again that can sometimes feel unfair and it still might be unfair with scotty but it's at least a part of the conversation that we are questioning his intensity his preparedness and his enthusiasm to not lose to be like you're not fucking taking this from me at no point when i watch him in these team events do i feel that emanating from the screen fair or not i do not feel that i yeah i might slightly disagree i don't i don't think i'm i'm on the questioning his preparedness or does he want it or i think we saw in 15 this morning when he made that putt and he reacted like he'd won him like that's what he looks like when he wins majors like he he was like fired the fuck up to finally see a putt go in i don't think he's faking that i don't think he like i think his super my my theory i think his superpower is he's the best golfer in the world at not caring about results and this is the one like that's that's why he every week just goes right off his back and that's why he tends to win a lot of 72 old stroke play events i want to be clear my take is not that he's not like cheering loud enough though like that was the first moment he had and he let out a big fist bump that's great but like i don't see him channeling that energy into other moments is my other point but i think that's maybe just not how he's wired like i think he i guess what that's what i'm saying is like i think he's he's his superpower is like being even keel and sometimes he freaks out and you know he gets bitchy if he's you know misses a bunch of short putts or something but like by and large man he's he's pretty even when he loses he's he's pretty like ah well you know didn't didn't go my way this week i guess we'll get him next week and i think that just doesn't play on a week like this externally but i think like that's kind of why he is who he is and i just i don't know again i have way more questions than answers i just find it fascinating he i i mean he's got to be pressing a little bit at this point right like he knows what his record is so there there has to be some of that i i he's free to express himself and be as bitchy as he wants in stroke play events and i wonder if he's gotta put on that happy face and and be the good teammate these weeks uh it shouldn't derail you to the point you know that that we see scotty schleff sheffler but i love that we can have this debate deej to your original point i love that we have this can have this debate i love that we can't put our finger on exactly what the reason is you know there's still some room in sports to just you know who knows that's the fun of that's the fun of having this discussion i know there's just so many weeks that are like well that guy hit two more greens and he made three more putts and i guess that's why he won move on to on to you know houston uh and this is one that i'm just like man i could talk about this for three hours this is like we're not even talking about golf anymore big guy this is where we're talking about everything this is this is the good stuff it uh it i i well i said this on x as today as well i just like i i wonder if this is a wake-up call in terms of like you're you got benched at a home president's cup like for for how you've played and like if that if that's not a a wake-up call for these team events i don't know what would be i mean tom kim your buddy played played every match wyndham clark i got the call to go play every match sam burns your partner and to be clear they won their match this morning but sam burns carried that match completely so scotty was the second worst american this morning only to jt who had a disaster uh of a morning so that's where i was like did you guys think the benching was justified and fair for the afternoon because by the end of that match i was wondering like i don't know how you send him back out uh in his current state god but on 15 didn't override what i saw with the rest of it it's so hard i mean it's like i i don't know how the timelines shake out so it's very possible they had to lock all these pairings before this happened but it did seem like 15 happens sam stuffs it on 16 17 like it finally was like oh dude they finally got some like good momentum like he started to look like himself a little bit more on that back nine and it's like i still would take my chances on scotty sheffler who's bad in team golf than i would on anybody else like on planet so it was kind of a coin flip for me i feel like i i didn't hate it but i'm also like i don't think anybody would have been like why are you sending scotty back out you know so it's it's kind of an interesting like put your put your name on a take there from from snedeker for sure yeah i had no problem with it i i yeah i struggle to go so far as to say it was justified but i i don't when the news came out that he was sitting i didn't i didn't flinch no part of me didn't flinch me was like oh my god why are you sitting scotty uh i'll tell you what i do have a problem with i don't know if you guys do as well i hate that kara and nothing against kara but i hate that that person in that position breaks it to scotty i i would rather afford him the opportunity to go talk to his captain to learn whether he's playing or not i i thought that was a bit off in my opinion very good tv yeah i thought the same thing right i was like oh this is unfair i was like oh but i so yeah i definitely was thinking about that too did you guys see uh what i would be not a fan of was kara asking uh you know sneds on that opening tea about uh you know about the afternoon foursomes and him not being able to remember uh who he played with chris goddard up which was let me let me get through this show without doing that tonight and then i and then i will i i i don't know that's one of those like there's no worse feeling in the world than that when you just you missed a step and you just like you're falling is a that's a tough one to dig yourself out of is this live kara are we live can we cut can we just take that again should we i remember back to one i do want an answer but you know at some point in the next week if that was a you know if clark burns was even a possibility heading into the week if that was a rehearsed foursomes at all a communicated possible contingency plan in some way i i'd be surprised if that was the case i think and it sounded like there was some conversation brendan porath had a good note on that about you know looked like there was some conversation with sam burns and some of the assistant captains and sneds uh when that kind of news was given to them after their match concluded to the point where um it did not work like that that move did not necessarily work in the afternoon sam burns and wyndham clark lost their match uh in the afternoon but i do think sneds was saying okay but this scheffler burns combo has not been great sam is playing much better than scotty is this morning in in four ball and also way better in four ball than he is in foursomes he's one and eight in foursomes and i can't really bench sam how he's playing right now i can't really bench wyndham how he's playing right now i'm kind of butting up against who the heck am i gonna sit i feel like it's it's got to be scotty and i didn't necessarily disagree with that on its surface i just didn't know if they were as prepared as they should be for that pairing and the fact that he couldn't name who he was pairing guys with leads me to believe that as well uh but on the flip side the goddard that got switched in at the last minute uh to play in the afternoon and him and cam young did go out and whoop some ass this afternoon so did uh gotta ask did you guys see the the thing where uh pat murphy benched william contreras for not running out a single the other night and then he came out the next night and uh had another close play at first dove head first to the first base which is not really what you want to see head into the playoffs but was was very funny uh and i'd love you know maybe scotty do something like that tomorrow uh what's the equivalent what's the equivalent of that just going absolutely ape shit on the first green when you yeah two putt par or he's doing the he's riding through the happy gilmore ride the ride the bull off the first tee i know he's got to try to drive four for sure that's that's that's definite uh yeah let me think on that big there's got to be there's got to be an equivalent i got it we need more guys head first should we get to some matches we've been in the We've been delaying this for quite some time. Why don't we start? with the last match since we're talking about scotty and burns uh anyways this was hideki and rio he he's at sune this morning uh in the fourth match out scotty uh made a birdie on the easy third hole but then did not make another birdie until 15. it was a run of one birdie and 29 holes uh on his own ball in four ball burns was much better player he birdied the fourth hole birdied the ninth hole um and they made a furious rally they they were one down after 14 but ended up winning the match two and one with birdies on 15 and then burns stepped up and birdied 16 and 17 uh to put the flip that match and put some put uh some more red on the board at the end of that one not only birdies i mean just stuffed the pinata on on 16 and 17. those are all awesome shots especially on 16 was just that was that was big time stuff from from sam burns back up at the very top first match out was justin thomas and jackson coivin against minwoo lee and sung jm uh coivin set the tone early with a birdie on the first jt had some fence issues right off the jump uh jt would make a birdie on the fourth hole but that would be his only birdie of the day coivin uh bounced back with a birdie on the sixth hole that put him two up uh but the internationals bounced right back and won the seventh uh with a birdie from sung jm um 12 hole was great uh coivin pulled it way left but survived jt got way too aggressive uh with his driver went in the water sung j thought he hit it in the fairway but it rode the fairway and crept all the way into so sick into the penalty area um which i don't as much as i've watched that hole i didn't realize it was that dramatic of uh if you got the ball working the wrong way in that fairway it could get all the way down there but i love stuff like that man no it's not you know layups shouldn't be easy either there shouldn't be like it shouldn't be an auto an auto get out of jail free card on a hole like that yeah so 12 was 12 was great to watch all day long uh from that back it was the team was back today and it was uh in the in the morning at least and it was it just made for some it'd be very decisive on what club you're taking and what line you were taking so uh it started to get away from the us from there though coivin made bogeys on 13 and 14. jt made some scrambling pars on both of those holes but it really got away from the us on 15 and 16. minimally birdied 15 and then the us just made a complete mess uh of the 16th hole and handed it to the internationals and it was tied jt had a good look from 18 feet on the 17th hole uh but missed that putt he did have a nice up and down on 18 with coivin in trouble uh there was enough for them to eke out the half but jt was the lowest strokes game player in the field uh this morning in saturday four balls um some of that due to the very first hole where he whiffed the ball left-handed essentially uh but the rest of it was so very much not just playing really bad and the rest of it was very not good uh i'm glad i got my i got a lot i did a lot of jt i did a week's worth of jt glaze i got thursday which is good because i don't i don't think i'm gonna need need too much more uh he was not good today unfortunately no it was obvious he was going to need to sit uh in the afternoon but i just man i did not even battle though yeah i enjoyed seeing i enjoyed watching coven in this in this setting he had to go on for a little while um kind of carried it as long as he could and he yeah he did not have a strong back nine but yeah his partner left him out to dry completely so they were really a good pairing in terms of neither you know jt had the great day thursday on very poor day today coivin was was solid today uh and and helped offset jt to the point where they got a half out of it um but yeah it was i mean i i could not have imagined what we saw how clean it was from the jt on thursday that it was just complete loss of game the last two days was not you know i i could i could see a comeback to earth kind of being a more neutral player over the last two days i did not see him completely losing his game he looked quite bummed afterwards he said he felt like he cost uh jackson a half point uh in that match it's hard to argue that he that he didn't yeah just just a couple true unknowns too with thomas and coven now going into singles you know playing four balls it's a little bit protect you know you don't want to put him in too big of a spot uh be interesting his his first international singles uh match on this type of stage and then yeah like you said jt who knows tomorrow i i think that's a bit concerning for the us yeah his especially as jt's approach play approach play and putter like that's a tough combination to not have working but man he he guts out the singles matches i don't know what um the matchup is exactly going to be uh for him but um we'll get to that uh when it gets i think it's unveiled but we will we'll break that down here a little later um but yeah uh good half point uh earned out between min mu lee and sung j m every half at this point from the internationals is a is a partial win uh with the lead they have second match out siwu kim and tom kim uh just the most delightful pairing to watch play golf in this event they beat colin morikawa and them clark uh morikawa made a bunch of early birdies wyndham rolled in a bomb from 37 feet on the fifth hole went nuts uh wyndham brought the energy from the jump too you know getting crowd pumped up on the very first hole uh siwu and tom kim they made a mess of the seventh hole handed that to them to put the us uh two up but siwu birdied 9 11. tom kim birdie 12. siwu drain birdies on both 16 and 17 to come back and win that match for the internationals extend the lead to eight to three it was the best golf played of any match uh this morning and um you know tom kim was not excellent but siwu was and tom kim stepped up on the couple holes that was needed and uh and they they eked out the point in that one massive point i i think with all the red on the board through the front nine this morning to get a half a point like you said out of that first match and then flip this and gain a full point i mean this the international team goes on to win i i think you can kind of circle these matches as as pretty big keys to that and another another like point for team golf too not that anybody's arguing team golf is bad but uh i love hearing siwu talk about like i think when we've seen him in contention it's always a lot of like man the potter looks really dodgy he doesn't look like he's trusting his reads he's he just looks a little off and coming down the stretch he just looked like he was nails and afterwards he's like oh yeah tom's reading all my putts he's telling me right where to hit it and i just i can't miss i'm like that's awesome that's what it is that's what it's all about that's so great they understand the assignment too you know shushing the crowd and i just i i i the the president's cup has gotten a lot better since tom kim got involved in this event yeah i'm glad you said that 100 agree totally could not agree more yeah uh in the third match it was cam young and chris goddard up against nick taylor and cory connors cam just came out hit the ball and hit the ball and i'm like oh my gosh that's awesome yeah i'm glad you said that 100 percent agree totally could not agree more yeah uh in the third match it was cam young and chris goddard up against nick taylor and cory connors cam just came out hit the ball and chris goddard up against nick taylor and hit the ball and hit the ball and hit the nos early they won the first hole uh after connors and and taylor made a mess of that one then cam birdie two he birdied three then drove the fourth green and eagled that hole to go four up through four holes cam also made a birdie on the sixth hole and the ninth hole shot six under uh on his own ball on the front nine stalled out a little bit on the back nine but got her up drains bombs on 14 15 and 17 uh to to it was first three birdies of the day uh to come back and close that match and they they win that one three you know it says two and one i would have thought that would have been three and one uh with that birdie but anyways they win the win the match win the point and the pairing that we wanted to see from the very jump at the beginning of this week uh you know puts another puts a point on the board for the us isn't it funny how like i'm sure there's analytics reasons to put them together too but there are some pairings where you just kind of look at guys you're like yeah obviously those two right like like those two are gonna play together right yeah come on and they were practicing together and that's where you know the goddard up can't lay thing in the first four ball was you know it's one of those you're like all right they probably know something we don't mathematically professor ball i hated that yeah and i wish i had a question you know i i'm that i'm truly monday morning quarterbacking that one uh of you know especially from what we've seen out of these this two in the in the combination but yeah i don't i don't know how they landed on that one and it was um you know more they figured it out eventually but maybe potentially too little too late anyways the morning four ball ends the internationals leading eight and a half to five and a half the u.s got two and a half out of it internationals one and a half i still think that was a good session for the internationals uh oh it could have been devastating that yeah yeah you because you know the us was like this was kind of like dude we got to survive kind of taking their best shot this morning and and when it was all red on the front nine that's what i mean like getting a point and a half out of this session i think was massive i think it was you know you're down down seven but you got the ball near the end of the half you drive you get a field goal and you're getting the ball back to start the second half going into foursomes like that was the move of like we didn't didn't tie the game uh but we got the the ball back and it's time to go in foursomes uh and yeah college football season is here and our closets are looking more and more that's quite a metaphor you got going there like roback's website here's the thing about roback's collegiate game day collection it's not just slapping a logo on a stock polo every polo hoodie and quarter zip is custom designed for your school whether it's campus land landmarks logos traditions school colors you name it roback is tapping into a unique uh into it in a unique custom way the polos hoodies the q-zips and more the game day collection just continues to grow i'm dub v'd up from the feet up tonight randy uh the little accents they got in there with the school colors on the string and all that stuff is just the best and i've got a little dub v polo that that you know they've they've uh you know they flooded it a bunch of small dub v logos on that one i love that one best part is it's still the same fit and feel of everything else you already know about roback best fabrics incredible versatility and incredibly comfortable in the wise words of ball knower jamis winston on saturdays we wear roback so catch them before they sell out and your team potentially drops uh their next game head to roback.com r-h-o-b-a-c-k.com use code n-l-u for 20 off your first order through the end of the week into the afternoon sitting for the u.s scotty scheffler justin thomas jackson coivan and colin morikawa on the international side christian bazaydenholt sitting all day nico echeveria sitting all day hideki matsuyama and rio hisatsune uh were on the bench for this afternoon uh i know we don't have to we don't have to spend a lot of time on this but uh any surprises bez has like a big time winning record is any surprise to uh can't argue with the result i guess but i was maybe a little surprised not to see him go back out and foursomes he's that's kind of why he's on the team he stunk in that first foursome session i think it was a chance to go for the jugular um i mean he and nico were were did not play well in the first sessions they played to the point where ogilvy made the call if we're not going we're not going back there uh the depth thing is a problem we do not have to play you again um maybe we can and this is where i think the president's cup is unique in that you can pick and choose your matchups for those two players if you want to for singles play right and there's a way of when you go in blind and it you know you don't know who they're going to play and it could be really really bad for the math and the and the calculus of how you want to to try to find your points it's i think it's a totally different thing like you could totally lay each of those two guys as a sacrificial lamb to the best two u.s guys if it shakes that way or you could find the bottom of the table and you could find the bottom of the table and you could find the bottom two guys uh on the u.s side the most vulnerable guys in the u.s side and try to scratch a point out of uh out of those matches i think that's a super interesting it's more justifiable i think to bench somebody for a long period of time in the in the president's cup than the rider cup uh no spoilers but hold that thought for when we get to singles cannot wait first one out they sat the morning session patrick can't land xander shafley against tom kim siwu kim xander came out the gate guys he came out made a couple putts and he's got a lot of putts uh you know kind of you know it wasn't like a big change in energy necessarily we made a big par putt on one pretty workmanlike yeah kind of just a couple dudes clock it in uh let's just let's just go to work man eight more eight more and we're back home uh yeah it was it was not the most fun fun match to watch but uh they got it done they got it done they birdied two and three and five uh the internationals did of course tom kim and siwu kim made some birdies on the front nine they did run out of steam though the putts they did run out of steam they did run out of steam yeah we're falling for the first three sessions most definitely not they made a mess of the 11th hole um when they did that put the u.s two up um they did make stuff want to make a birdie siwu stuffed it on to on the 16th hole when they were two down with just three to play that kind of extended their life a little bit but uh ended up having to concede the 17th hole when they degreened themselves on a kind of a do or die putt uh on 17 it was funny but like they kind of needed to make that putt because the u.s was in close but got a point on the board for xander can't lay uh if they had gone for it three i don't know uh if the genie's getting back in the bottle uh on that one and from a from a pr standpoint but to quote your reds again where are you gonna go you're gonna put these guys on the team where else are you guys gonna go that's very you want jj's pod yeah you think he's gonna put butts in seats i don't think so give me kayla and xander again i do think there's something to the point that we don't have to play these two together if they like they had incredible success in the early days of the season and they didn't have to play these two together i don't think it's the same level of player anymore so i don't know if we have to keep them together i think you'd be hard-pressed to find guys that like should absolutely be on the team over them but i do think we could be potentially looking at the end of kind of this run of this partnership yeah we can see that so uh first loss for tom kim and siwu kim they are three and one uh xander and can't lay move to one and two after this match gotta be a little bit of fumes for for tom kim and siwu towards the end of that match like it looked like the door was kind of creaking open and they they maybe could flip it again and it was just like just too big of a too big of an ask yeah did any i mean i'm doing this off the top of my head did anyone that played all four win their afternoon match cam young i believe is potentially the only one that played all four oh men will lee has gone all four yeah yeah and cory connors yep you're correct okay so several guys did which that is the next match up uh russell henley jacob bridgman against cory connors and nick taylor a bunch of ob shit going on in the early part of this match uh connors hit one ob on this match like not the best golf but uh it was entertaining yeah interesting it was bad golf randy's if you look at the card you can get tricked into thinking that it's a bad golf that it wasn't that bad because there's a bunch of circles on there but some of those are just like conceded birdies before because the other team was out of the hole uh and you know had already played their par uh par shot before the other team had even hit their birdie but taylor went right up against the ob on the first all connors hit it ob on two but a fan just like bicycle kicked it back onto the green one of the most outrageous things i've ever seen in live sports and it was crazy and the guy immediately like covered his mouth oh my god i'm so sorry it was just for that to be the reflex was epic it was like a it was like a kung fu move i've never i've never seen anything like it uh what was the jeffrey meyer incident and the yankee in the playoff game the guy that reached in and uh so they they did rule fan interference on that and ruled that ball was out of bounds it's just a big a big dub for the for fight over flight there for that for that guy sitting right there in chicago for you yeah yeah exactly what if it was bartman nobody's seen nobody's seen him until then so the internationals did not get a ball in the hole for the first three holes and they were three down from there but then they peeled off some birdies maybe some birdies uh you know some of these might have just been uh gimmies um but they were three the u.s was three up through 10 holes uh in this match and uh the meltdown just ensued from there the americans bogeyed 11 they conceded the 12th hole and they made a mess and plugged the ball in the bunker there just made absolutely no sense shot from russell henley there on the 12th russ missed a shorty during playing through uh to have the 14th hole then they bogeyed 15 to go one down russ just stunk i mean he stepped up he drove drove it in the bunker on 17 when they had their backs up against the wall cory connor's finished the match with a six-footer uh on the 18th hole porter right in the middle and uh internationals won that one one up which was a massive point uh at the end of that day and then ten eight is so different than ten and a half seven and a half yeah i russ uh love russ huge russ henley fan uh he goes in my in my five my billy horschel file of just like oh man i thought this was gonna go a lot a lot different in team golf uh and just kind of seen two of them now and you're like if that's that's not it man i don't know if we're i don't know if we're hang on to that uniform man i don't know i don't know if we're getting another one of those i don't know if we're coming back from that yeah bridgman we we said this on the preview we've said this this week i don't get taking a guy that has best par four scoring and not letting him play his own ball at all um just like especially as a rookie too it's like the hardest thing to settle into is the all shot and it's just a just weird and pairing it with somebody that doesn't hit the ball that far also like you know bridgman's not a bomber either i mean again i i don't have the the all the info of what why this pairing would have made sense from from four years ago but i think it's but it didn't work they went oh and two uh and their two foursomes matches and it hurt it hurt a lot so um third match cameron young and chris goddard up against adam scott and sung jm uh cam just complete hero mode cameron young has been the best player in this president's cup both sides not even close not nobody's even in the ballpark of what that guy has produced even that's after a pretty shaky opening session that we had i think we were kind of questioning after thursday what you do uh with cameron young and chris goddard i think we were kind of questioning after thursday but the last three sessions he has been just pretty much the best player in each one he was uh the best uh by far 4.56 shots gained alone from him in this afternoon's foursomes goddard was next up with 2.15 like nobody else in any other match was within three shots of him so and then yeah he was the second best player this morning just behind uh sam burns so incredible stuff from him they went they just absolutely boat raced him got her up was pretty incredible stuff from him they went they just absolutely boat raced him got her up was pretty solid solid solid very solid uh in the afternoon as well and they were they were too good of a team like the very solid uh in the afternoon as well and they were they were too good of a team like the in the in a better world they would in the in a better world they would in the in a better world they would have been spread out and they had not been wasted uh on winning six and four but you know that's it breaks that way sometimes cam hit a 375 yard drive on 13 then drained an eagle putt uh after that they went on 30 best ball or i'm sorry in foursomes they went out uh at 30 and they were five up at the turn so i know uh i know adam scott's not the adam scott of of old he still is the one of the premier players on the team he's been a pretty kind of a missing person this week and for them to to still be up three points even with him not having a good week is impressive you know the numbers don't necessarily support that i mean he is one and two but he's been like quite literally dead neutral in strokes gains um and so it's hard to you know in this afternoon foursomes he was he was fine you know he just wasn't they went up against the buzzsaw and sungjae wasn't that great uh an afternoon foursomes um he was the best player in the in the friday foursomes in the match they won beating cam and jt so it's not been great but it's not been you know there's some there's some bigger problems i think overall uh on the uh on the international side than than adam scott yeah essentially been like their fourth best player so far so um sungjae's one two and one adam scott one and two uh cam young somehow is only two and two uh and got her up uh is two and two so far last match sam burns and wyndham clark against ryan foxman woo lee uh the early lead uh was taken in this one um by burns and clark they were they were two up through two uh fox and lee fought back with a birdie on the third hole though they also birdied the seventh hole to tie the match uh the uh they won the hole with a part the eighth hole with a par to go one up um and then they made a unbelievable shot from ryan fox on the 13th hole the par three using the funnel pin uh getting it down there close and that one uh winning that hole to go one up minwoo lee then made a short birdie putt on 14 after another good shot uh for fox to go two up us made a mess of 15 uh three up lead ended up winning this one three and two is kind of burns right now to steam near the end clark's been good i feel like he's been a lot better than his one and three record shows um that was a shock to me when i saw that um but fox moves to two and one minwoo lead to one and one and the internationals will be taking a ten and a half seven and a half lead into tomorrow uh can we get into singles please we can i i'm thrilled to uh to unveil this i think i'm excited for tomorrow uh all right should we do a uh i i'm looking at him i'll i'll say who you know famously in the president's cup one team throws one out the other team can react there's no envelope or anything like that uh the internationals went first guys if you're the internationals who you thrown out first as your your your lead dog it it's interesting is that ytk's music i hear him or siwu but there's also a quiet little rule of thumb that you don't put out somebody that's going to play five matches in the first match from an energy perspective going out first for the internationals rio hisatsune the u.s counters with cameron young uh like that matt don't like that let's put a point on the board if they're gonna give it to us why okay i'll put flag that one i will have some questions on that later uh team usa uh comes out with wyndham clark okay captain ogilvy comes back with tom kim okay great match there uh wasn't that wasn't wyndham in the the famous night night uh no he was he was not in the match he was chirping that's right he was chirping him that's right they played them earlier that day i think yeah uh okay back to the internationals throw out corey connors u.s counters with justin thomas so we have cam young wyndham clark justin thomas as our first three for the u.s uh the u.s throws out scotty scheffler next which is interesting uh in that you would just give them a free roll to put anybody that they want up against scotty scheffler scotty scheffler right so they put bez up against them i bet uh close nico nico what a what are they doing uh u.s comes or i'm sorry internationals come up next with sung jay who was gonna get sam burns i was gonna guess burns uh then we go to the u.s has got her up uh again kind of putting like your your big horse and saying who would you like to play this guy a little bit and they sounded like a great man they went bez bez oh they went they went bez got her up in bez uh i don't love this that's what we doing dog no i i don't know if i'd love this from the international team uh hideki is next uh gets thrown out he will be taking on colin morikawa uh sure after that uh the u.s throws out patryk after that uh the u.s throws out patryk after that uh the u.s throws out patryk after that uh the u.s throws out patryk after can't lie uh internationals counter with adam scott uh after that uh the u.s throws out patryk after can't lie uh internationals counter with adam scott uh maybe the most interesting match of the uh maybe the most interesting match of the uh maybe the most interesting match of the day after that internationals throughout day after that internationals throughout day after that internationals throughout siwu kim siwu kim siwu kim uh u.s answers with uh u.s answers with uh u.s answers with who's left is it xander no it's not who's left is it xander no it's not xander xander xander coivin coivin wow coivin coivin wow coivin coivin wow coivin versus siwu kim would be good stuff coivin versus siwu kim would be good stuff coivin versus siwu kim would be good stuff there there there uh jacob bridgman is going to be in the uh jacob bridgman is going to be in the uh jacob bridgman is going to be in the tenth match he's taking on min wu lee tenth match he's taking on min wu lee tenth match he's taking on min wu lee uh international throughout nick taylor uh international throughout nick taylor uh international throughout nick taylor who's going to get russ henley who's going to get russ henley who's going to get russ henley and that leaves the anchor match as and that leaves the anchor match as and that leaves the anchor match as xander versus the great xander versus the great xander versus the great great great man ryan fox as the uh as great great great man ryan fox as the uh as great great great man ryan fox as the uh as the firewall the firewall the firewall hmm soli your hmm soli your hmm soli your your reaction i'm just i'm just i'm just learning this now i'm just i'm just i'm just learning this now i'm just i'm just i'm just learning this now okay so it's just now coming across okay so it's just now coming across okay so it's just now coming across my desk my desk my desk it certainly seems like from my it certainly seems like from my it certainly seems like from my perspective that they perspective that they perspective that they mismanaged the cameron young and scotty mismanaged the cameron young and scotty mismanaged the cameron young and scotty scheffler situation because as much as scheffler situation because as much as scheffler situation because as much as as far as we've been on scotty for this as far as we've been on scotty for this as far as we've been on scotty for this like still like still like still 18-hole solo single match play like 18-hole solo single match play like 18-hole solo single match play like i he's gonna be one of your dogs like i he's gonna be one of your dogs like i he's gonna be one of your dogs like he's one of your guys that like you are he's one of your guys that like you are he's one of your guys that like you are and also gave the internationals the and also gave the internationals the and also gave the internationals the opportunity to find the matchup they opportunity to find the matchup they opportunity to find the matchup they wanted for nico wanted for nico wanted for nico is just interesting is just interesting is just interesting i'm happy if i'm ogilvy if i'm saying i'm happy if i'm ogilvy if i'm saying i'm happy if i'm ogilvy if i'm saying got her up bez scotty nico and rio got her up bez scotty nico and rio got her up bez scotty nico and rio cameron young are cameron young are cameron young are the three i will lose those three the three i will lose those three matches let's say if i get a half point out of those i'm i'm happy if i get one i'm ecstatic out of that then then we're even if you lose all three we're tied and all i gotta do is find five out of the other favorable you know somewhat favorable matchups that we're going to get i'm pretty happy if i'm the internationals right now i tend to i tend to agree yeah i like that god the singles is where it really starts to um you see the depth see the depth yeah where you're just like how we how we win in some of these matches international team god that tom kim wyndham clark match feels very big very big um but rainy the point of the depth would play into the depth of the match yeah i think that's a good point i think that's a good better if you get like players on your team matched up like you're almost negating the depth if you're if you're putting your worst against their best right you're like shrinking the disparity a little bit i get the idea if you want to get a let's just call it an easy point i'm not going to guarantee cameron young is going to beat he's out soon tomorrow but i like i get the idea like you want to win that first match but like you got a margin you got to close like they'd put rio out first what would you guys who would you guys have put up against him jt i'd say wyndham or jt or morikawa i think could have been a good fit there zander could have been a good fit there i know he hasn't played his best but like i would count on zander to beat rio zander always go last i feel like that's it no he's gone first at times yeah um and i don't know if i'm putting russ henley near the back end after what happened at beth page when the moment got pretty big no but i i just i mean there's a world where let's give cam his match let's give scotty his match jt's a dog uh jt's a question mark right now cory conners has been for sure yeah that's an interesting match tomorrow that's a big spot for jt he's got to win i guess what i'm saying is like shit man i could see a world where the u.s wins us for six matches and yeah yeah just hoping that momentum rides through through the rest i don't know this gets back to like yeah when i just got to win i'm like yeah i'm just looking at the names on paper uh the the depth and i guess the the world ranking and accomplishments of the u.s team uh really shine through a bit but i want to find odds matches for these love that um randy can i run a game by you that i really am interested to play with you yeah we can do this rather quickly but and then maybe this is better better sunday game but i'm interested to get your take on this so the exercise is this we for the 12 u.s players on this team you have to decide right now whether or not you are taking them to a dare okay you say yes they're going no matter what happens over the next year and if you say no they're not going no matter what happens over the next year this is where if you try to ask soli this he'd be like well i would have to know what's going on at the time am i taking the team for right now are we playing tomorrow i'll play too or are we playing are we playing in a year i'm gonna play i don't know i'm loco either i'll say no to 12 guys i know you will i wish make this real quick for you i will play too all right cameron young are you as he are you taking him we're taking him to a dare okay he's on the squad windham uh yes he's on the squad okay dj gave a thumbs up as well jt i hate this dude i'm biased i i just have a little bit of jt fatigue like i know the answer well i don't want to lock him in so i think it has to be a no because i don't want to lock him in okay greatest team record in united states team golf history i legitimately think maybe they should kick fear out and make jt the captain if they're going to try to redo some of this team usa stuff because i do think he needs to be in there uh because i think he's the only one that kind of has that bone but maybe not so much holding clubs i'll say i'll say no for now okay can't bring him no matter what jj spawns coming then that's what that means with a good time i'm taking jt scott scheffler we're gonna bring scott yeah we're gonna see let me see what happens tomorrow sam burns so this is a guy i've kind of done a 180 on i think yeah i i just don't think we're finding 12 guys better than sam by next year i also think they've not put him in the best positions to succeed i agree with that i think finding a better match for partnership can get more out of him i don't know what that answer is but i think it something different could work for sam burns got her up i like got her up i'm bringing him yep yeah i'm taking him big big spot for you here ready morikawa i've seen enough of colin i don't need him he kind of falls in that jt camp let's let's you know the tree of liberty needs refresh with some new blood yeah i know it's it's probably stupid and he's gonna put up some crazy good iron year and of course he should be on the team quote unquote but i'm i'm with you i'm i'm good no thanks okay i'm taking morikawa can't lay no no no done um it's the hardest one for me i know this is this one right yeah no no can't no can't lay i'd still do it easiest one but again i'm i'm ready to break up him and xander i think i i i still think he's gonna be better just imagine the world where it's like oops we have to leave like you know when you like get rid of a bunch of stuff and you're leaving him is so much more than having to take him you know when you're like stressing about cleaning your office or something and you're like if i get i i just can't possibly get rid of this i i would i would miss it so much i would miss it so much i would miss it so much i would i think about what if i ever need to go to a halloween party where i need to dress as this thing i'm gonna need this and then you get rid of it and you just don't ever think about it again i think that would be liberating i think you're not wrong team usa situation i think you're not wrong if i felt like there was more new hot-blooded americans ready to to come up i might answer differently on some of these but that's kind of watching this corn fairy tour give ross steelman on that on that sure i like ben james i can yeah ben james get the air fryer out there this one is interesting jackson well that's why i thought this one was the hardest because like the track record right it's it's hard to just like guarantee him a spot next year but also i want to to make the i want to afford him that opportunity so yeah i'm taking him yeah i'm in he's we locked him up man eight year deal he's a franchise shortstop adair's a training ground anyways we're not gonna win adair so he's gotta he's gotta be there bridgman we got plus we got six years of control yeah what you just said leads me to no on bridgman like no offense we just let's get let's see some new guys yeah it would have been yeah it was a good audition thanks for coming out man uh great love what you love what you put on this isn't no forever this is just no for next year yeah although in this instance it is no forever isn't that what you said sorry no just like you can't it's no for next year like you okay you have to you have to lock in this year ross henley nah no i'm it's a no for me xander xander's a yes whereas can't lay is a no okay yeah let's split them up let's see how x-man reacts without without patrick yeah which the this is where i hated like i think i had 10 yeses and i don't i don't love myself ever but i definitely don't love myself right now see dj and i cleaned out the closet we're feeling free i think we have five spots good i dj's gotta take sahith that's how's he gonna feel when that happens oh yeah what if they lose that would be a nightmare what if we had players that were fun to watch and then they lost that would be a what a mess that would be gosh uh all right oh you did that we didn't have to get on the regular yeah we got a spot for speed now all right do speed you're locking him in right now or you can't take no it's not part of the game i don't have legally i don't have to answer that question uh all right who wins the president's got tomorrow oh god i've been wrong about everything this week so i don't know whether he stands it or or go with my whole chest we all agree that ty is like the worst the sum of all fears right that'd be a nightmare that'd be a nightmare um which i forget do they do they yeah they famously they used to have it be a playoff but now they got rid of that yeah it's too much it's too much pressure on them but they don't even do a retain do they do they call it a full-on tie i don't know who cares isn't that crazy that you don't know i don't know either uh listen i want to believe in something i want to root for underdogs give me the international team yeah come join me big i love it same same i think they can't be three across the board now i i think hope they do it i mean what what a story it would be uh truly like i mean just unreal unreal stuff if they get it done i don't i don't even know what to compare it to in golf it'd be be nuts i hope it's big too yeah a lot yeah just bleak scenes out there or or or the great man foxy wins it with a that's what i own for the effort down for the good of the sport i hope it comes out of that last match and foxy just steps on another midiron into 18 zander zander won't even have scooped up his his gimme exactly we'll have already hit the putt uh can't wait um what what a dub that we got such a fun sunday at the president's cup on tap it is that was not guaranteed guys and that there's a lot of a lot of things that have to happen for that to uh to go that way yeah that's right are you gonna get your stopwatch out for the speech on uh on the first tee uh i'm sure there will be plenty of stopwatches out uh but i i'm happy to to join the chorus if you like uh if he opens it up to questions all you want me to ask anything uh do that whole game of who he's taking of the of the 12 americans if he's taken to next year we'll do i might have to give him a wait on the the t swift situation which randy have you have not you've not weighed in on this are you gonna pick a side on this are you issuing a statement on this t swift your silence is deafening well i i will have a statement tomorrow let's let's leave it as a cliffhanger for the sunday show it's not good i think it's not good doesn't look good you got a lot of reputational capital tied up with this one doesn't look good but we're gonna have an official statement tomorrow night yeah um highlights one other highlight of the day maybe a low light um i don't know if you guys this came across your guys desk i i like watching the president's cup it's not my favorite event um you know it's not like must see tv if you entirely missed the whole thing i wouldn't be like oh you really missed out except for when reed's caddy pushed that fan that was great um charlie reimer didn't doesn't share the same sentiment uh he how did we wait an hour 20 to get to this you should have led with it you should have he tweeted this if you have it uh here's a hot take if you had hooked me up to the electric chair and you said quote watch the president's cup or we'll flip the switch i'd say quote flip the switch hashtag glorified member guest chuck i was not charlie give me well that's why i was like holy shit isn't this guy i would point towards uh someone like mark lie randy has that was kind of made me think of that it's kind of been on that on that tip just like 25 30 years in like mainstream media and they're just like all this is fucking bullshit and everybody's bought and paid for everything's a scam uh yeah it's good we need it flip the switch flip the switch man uh somebody flipped the switch on nbc uh commercial load this afternoon it was a complete embarrassment uh i thought that bounced back pretty well yesterday and i didn't feel like it was horrible watch today until the end when they just blew it worse than henley and bridgman did um missing shots playing through big moments and playing through coming back from playing Summary:

S. team is in a precarious position heading into the singles matches of the 2026 President’s Cup after a dramatic collapse in the early sessions.

S. team shows signs of disarray, with players like Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas appearing out of sync, possibly due to fatigue, lack of team chemistry, or poor preparation.

S. team lacks the leadership, energy, and cohesion needed to compete at this level. Strategic benching of top players is seen as a viable option, especially to target weaker opponents in singles.

S. may need structural changes in team management and player development to avoid repeating such failures. The match remains highly unpredictable, with the potential for a stunning reversal, but the current momentum favors the international team.

Ultimately, the event underscores the need for a cultural shift in how Team USA approaches team golf, moving beyond individual excellence to team synergy and shared accountability.
