1213: Day 1 of the '26 Presidents Cup

We had a day one, Sully here, we spent the day out at Medina, and by we, I mean, me and my guy, T.C., sitting in my right, hello, T.C. >> Hello, Sully. >> Good to be here, good to be in the Windy City, or thereabouts, just outside the Windy City, just west of the Windy City. >> Well, Windy out there today. >> Yeah, it turned into a gorgeous day out there. We got Thursday night, football on the night, we got DJ's Packers against my Falcons. And we had five matches out there today. >> We're indeed five matches played. He's Ryze, he's risen a little bit, he was supposed to be here, he's been battling it on the home front and the health front, Mr. DJ Pie, hello, DJ. >> Hey guys, good to be with you. Yeah, it's been a tough couple of days, your boys just been laying in bed. But good to be back, good to be with you, good to watch some golf, it was a good thing to have on the TV. Today, when I couldn't do much of anything else, I'm excited to talk about it. >> Dude, you're just like me, whenever you're sick, even when I say, tell people I'm sick, I get the feeling that they think I'm faking it. >> Totally. >> So I way over describe everything I'm going through. We're going to talk about our day on site as well. I got a little game for later, I tested it out on TC and our live audience last night at recess. Thanks to everyone here in Chicago that came out to that. I had the presence cup, foot joy, I had three of the players on the US team meet with their head, footwear, fitter, and product development team testing. If you're just catching up, the US is leading three to two when we will go into each individual match. We do have the matchups already in for tomorrow. We can do some second guessing, all that fun stuff. But where do you think we start here, dude? I want to flip it right back to you. What do you think is the story of the day today when all the ink is spilled, solid, when all the columns are written, what's going to be Thursday at the president's cup, year of our Lord 2026, what was the story? Are you going to go there early? >> I don't want to. I want to talk about the golf I want to get there, but it was just very much what are we doing here? What's going on here? We'll get to that later, we'll get, just say JT, right? >> Just say JT. >> We'll get to all the negative stuff later. >> There was some great, great golf. I do think on the, this is not a hamster, I'm going to get to the broadcast just yet. I do think one of the biggest takeaways I had from being onsite, this is supposed to be a different event. This is a unique event. This is about the atmosphere, it's about the routiness. It's allegedly supposed to be about all those things and a big takeaway I had was because of the way the build out has been done and the setup has done a lot of that stuff probably isn't that integral to people's enjoyment of the golf tournament, but did it seem quiet on television from the little one we talked about it beforehand, did seem quiet on television. There was a lack of energy. They are not let the fans get anywhere close to the greens, especially on the front nine. Part of that issue is, you know, kind of the shaping of the golf course and pretty dramatic bunkers around a lot of these greens. There's a lot of width in this golf course, there's a lot of short grass and runoff areas and opportunities for balls to roll away and getting fans too close would kind of interfere with that. But the bad part of it, the negative part of it is because of how far the golf ball goes, where they have to put some of these teas has created so many spots where fans cannot get around. It's created these massive choke points that fans can't get anywhere close to some of these greens. That's kind of the whole point of this thing is to be able to get close to the golf shots and there's plenty of fans out there. The fans were great like they did all they could, but I'd kind of just felt bad for them in certain spots because you get around some of these greens and there's just, yeah, you can't even get close to it. One green, two green, three green. So I have a little graphic here to show this like because of where you have to put the three T because of how far the golf ball goes all the way in the back corner of this property where you see these three X's on the screen, you cannot get fans behind there. Like all the fans are out of bounds to the left of two to the right on this image. Like the fans have to stay back there. You can't surround there. But if you put three T up and make the whole place shorter, and this is not a commentary on the arc. The redesign that has just been done is a commentary just on distance. They're stretching it out to get as much as they can out of it. You could have fans around that green and create a little bit of an atmosphere. Get all the area to the right of two green to the left of this image you're looking at. There's no fans up there. There's none at all. And it gets worse with some of the other holes. If you look at this one, the worst example is probably four green and where they have this fifth T, which is a shared box essentially with the eighth T, you now T back over the fourth green. So where this red X's fans can't get close at all to the action there. Like they can't get close. Can't make any noise. Theoretically, if you put the T up into the left, if the ball didn't go as far, fans would be able to crowd all around that fourth green and create an atmosphere around that one. I'm not going to do this for every hole, but you can keep going. Like the fifth one might be the worst one because you had this Frankenstein 6 T on the par 5 all the way back where it's between three T and the fairway. Like it is way way back there and in the way of three T. And then there is nowhere anywhere close to five green that you can get. So that's kind of the explanation for why there wasn't a lot of noise out there. That's just a few, I mean, you get near nine. I mean, they have a 40 yard wide walkway for the players to go from nine green to 10 T that's completely unnecessary. The fans could be so much closer to that green. It's a cool part of three like it just seems like they let the fans down a little bit in terms of there's already not that much golf to watch, not being able to get close and make noise. I think had an effect on what was a relatively sleepy day. I think it had a non zero effect. Yeah, it was, they played really slow too is five and a half hour pace from the first group out that didn't have anybody in front of them and it didn't get any better from there. Uh, God, Sally, you're just, you're, you're harping on stuff that I would normally harp on. Like, pretty soon we're going to be talking about the sawgrass Marriott and connecting Lake Kedija to Lake Michigan and, you know, to the St. Lawrence Seaway. I'm harping on it because it affected, I think everybody's enjoyment of the day. Some of this stuff I don't know if people really, it really gets to them say, what does you? And there were, there were some weird choke points to just getting around the property as well. But, um, as far as the golf goes, I think the, like, I've been to, I don't know, I've been to three or four of these now, there's just not a lot, there's just, there's not a lot of golf going on. It's going to be a same, it's going to even more profound tomorrow with, uh, there's only 10 balls in play for any entire golf course. And so it's one of those things where, you know, you got five matches, um, the golf was a little uneven at first. And like I was excited to see the, the, the OB down the left side on one and two, definitely more in play on two. I couldn't believe how many balls hit the fence and came back in. Uh, we, we need to get them to shave that rough down underneath the fence, you know, separating out the, the fairway and the OB narrow strip of rough there. It's that. Okay. There's no possible reason why for normal member play, that is short and balls roll under the fence and go out of bounds. And for the best players in the world, offer there to help keep the ball in balance. Like that is, I don't think it should be grown up for the members. But if there was one way or the other, it should be reverse of how they're doing it. I cannot understand why. Why that why they would set that up that way that the whole architecture element and strategy of that is. He'll be down the list, especially again, especially in match play. It's not like you're wrecking somebody's card. It's not like you're wrecking somebody's tournaments. Like you lose one hole. If you hit it out of bounds and you might not even lose like coven hit it out of bounds and they tied the whole, you know, and it's it's just yeah, maddening to see that. How many balls were stopping right there? And there's a couple other ones too, like eight that whole 30 foot bank that shaved out. Why is any ball coming to rest down there? Like what the hell is the point of that? I specifically talked to my talking about that. He's like, yeah, that was not designed to be that way that was the balls that miss right of that green were designed to go all the way in the water. Sally from someone who's been here before, you know, played here before, what was like stepping foot on site? What was your thought? It felt like a completely different property. I really, until you get to what it was the original old 16th, the whole of the DJ hold out to beat me in 2019 video. That go in, which is now the normal 15th, which is tournament 11, I know it's confusing. Until you get to there, that was the first time I'd be like, ah, I have been here before. I remember that. The rest feels like a completely completely different golf course. 18 kind of, you know, where that finishes is still the same and where one and two are still feel the same. But it is completely different. And that's where, you know, it's it's it's it's it's it's it's they've done all the things we like to see courses do. The bunkers are, are a lot more interesting, they're better shaped the grass, ah, the short grass around the greens, the contouring around the greens is much more defined. There's a lot of different quadrants in the greens. They use a lot of really good whole locations today. Like they had some really aggressive pins, ah, and some really interesting spots. That was right from the, right from the jump. Well, yeah, I love the one on 15, our first hole, T, T, which is like hanging off the edge of the planet there on the left side of that, that green, like the scariest shot ever, downhill wedge. Uh, but I loved even right from the jump. That first hole is tucked way over there on the right. I'm killing the right. Team USA could not stop missing it right in that bunker kind of the one spot. You couldn't hit it. Which then was just like this little microcosm of of everything I, I like about the golf course and the changes is you miss in that bunker. A lot of times bunkers are like, yeah, whatever I'll get it up and down 60% of the time, 70% of the time. Nobody was getting it up and down from that bunker except for JT who hit like the most unbelievable shot of the day that a little like one hop and stop and you can see everybody else just trying desperately to generate enough spin and not getting it anywhere within 20 feet. Uh, so that was, that was great right from the jump. That was an interesting moment, very first hole of the tournament and, uh, they, he and Coven were about a foot and a half away from each other in the bunker. Coven goes first and splatges sand all over like JT's ball and behind his ball and in his line and by the rule, rule, you are able to get, uh, you know, you're able to recreate the lie you had. Like, do you have a right to the lie you had when you got in there? So JT got to lift his ball and then rake it, but they had an interesting conversation. The rules official, of course, Craig winter, no laying up podcast guests was, was the rules official in that group and the JT, um, the, the back and forth they had was like his, the after it was raked, it was not like the original lie he had was not like in bunker times. They're the, they're the third group out and, and I don't know if that part had not been raked yet or nobody had been in that part yet. So he's saying I shouldn't have to place it in bunker times and, and I, and he was making the case to Craig like, if I did, it would be too good of a lie. Like, I can put it up on this ridge and I can prop it up here and it would be too good of a lie. And I just, I want, I'm trying to communicate to you that I wanted on a smooth part because that's what I had before. And the international guys kind of came over and I think there was a, the start of a controversy brewing right from the jump, uh, but it kind of just, it just fell pretty quickly. But then JT steps up and just hits this wicked spin after Koivin blew it 25 feet past. And I was like, oh, this must be an impossible bunker shot. And JT just hit an epic bunker shot and just set the tone for his incredible day, which we'll get to. So. I was going to say, should we get to that now? Cause I feel like he was getting the golf. He was, uh, facing some scrutiny, I guess a little bit of the enough with JT. What are, are we, are we really doing this again? He was far and away the best player in the field today. I mean, he was, he was lights out carrying Koivin a lot of the, especially in the early stretch of that match, but largest margin of victory on the day, uh, just did, did everything. Well, made clutch puts when he needed to looked like a, uh, I don't know, made me feel very old that JT is now this guy, but just looked like on, looked like the gray haired veteran just shepherding this kid around. Uh, it was really cool to watch. Did you, it's all that you were with them most of the day, right? I went with them almost essentially the entire day until the very end when it was quite clear they were going to win and I went and caught up with the Scotty and, and Burns match. But yeah, Koivin was shaky early, um, he was going to make a bogey on one quite easily. He pumps, steps up pumps one OB on two, might have pumped the second one OB on two, apparently it bounced back in, but he did not finish the whole, but was his second one? JT, Koivin hit a T shot OB on one. Yeah. And he then retied and then I thought he had a second one out with his, what would have been his fourth shot. Um, so JT had to make two good parters just to stay in it there and then, uh, you know, JT gets one in really close hit, it's the green and two on the par five third. Uh, and then Koivin stepped up made about a 20 footer ahead of JT, JT had about four feet for birdie there. So that would have been birdie for JT there, JT birdies four, he then rolls in a birdie on the fifth hole, um, and off the jump, they're two up, Koivin bounces back six one and under seven feet on the par five sixth hole. Now they go to three up very quickly and, uh, he was just, he was super steady, Koivin, you know, it was kind of up and down he could tell he was nervous. He was nervous. He got it, you know, and he, he was struggling in the practice rounds at anybody that had been out walking with them kind of, uh, said the same thing and he was, but he was kind of a good four ball partner. He made three birdies today. He had a great birdie, uh, on 12 and, uh, did makes, he had made some good plots. He, he potted the ball well. He just did not hit the ball very well today. And then JT laid the hammer down at the very end, birdie 14, uh, and then I think was, was it can see the birdie on 15 or, or did he birdie 15? I wasn't able to catch that kind of zone out on that match just because Nico was not even out there. And Cory Connors was doing a Cory Connors thing. You know, Cory started like a Cory Connors thing and then I, I do gotta get him credit. He made some putts coming in because we were all starting to talk about like, dude, you are, you're missing like 12 footers, like straight ones, like a cup and a half. Like they were not, did not look like professional golf putts, uh, and then from, he walked several puts in and he, he carried that team, but yeah, Nico, Nico had a bunch of shots that were looking really good in the air, just coming up woefully short, like on 12, the, the short drivable four, um, the wind kind of picked up in their face and look like he hit a nice shot and hits right on the bank, falls in the water, sets up on the part three, 13, that looks like it, well, it's in the air that he's flagged that it comes up short on the bank and he, he really had a, uh, a tough day. I like Nico. I don't think we're gonna see Nico again for a couple of days. I think he's playing him on, he's playing him on, I think he is. Yeah. Yeah. Is Nico not tomorrow? I thought he was sitting. Uh, maybe I'm, yeah, he said, we got those coming in fever dream, uh, might be, might be my presence cup fever kicking in there. Uh, but to your point, Dej, JT had four recorded birdies. It really, it would have been five, uh, had he, you know, had Coivan not also rolled in his birdie on the third hole. Coivan made three birdies, but JT was the strongest strokes game player in the entire field today plus three point six eight, Nico was the worst minus five point three seven. As we've all often talked about in these match play events, especially four ball, there's a lot of noise in the strokes game part to the downside, uh, not really on the upside. Like if you're plus whatever, like you played an excellent round of golf and you probably contribute a lot to your team, when you get behind, you know, you can chase some pins and what not and kind of end up with a really low looking, uh, you know, number. So I don't know if he was minus five bad, but Nico was not a good teammate bad, uh, today definitely. So, Dej, I'm just, I'm excited to see what these guys doing in four sums tomorrow after, after what everybody saw us do at four sums last night. Uh, I tell you what, TC, I've never felt more vindicated than I do today as after watching all those guys hit it. It'll be a number two. I was like, that's, yeah, happy. You try it, man. It's a challenge, but it's hard, it's hard out there, uh, yeah, that's players of the world that happens to Foxy, guys are major champion. Foxy, it's a stinker. He did. He did. He was not the dude today. TC. No. What question for you guys? What does JT have to do this week? Specifically for you. Uh, I wasn't that critical of JT being on the team. I was critical of can't live being on the team. You tried to do JT. I said, we know what we have in JT. Correct. And we, I mean, he needs the heart and soul of the team. Obviously, I didn't think we were going to have this much upside. TC. I, I, I will say. Okay. I had no problem with the pick, but I didn't think it was going to be this good. I mean, if you could go one in three, he could go one in four for all we know, but I would say, how good is he have to be this week to get to the point where we don't have to do this? And if he gets a captain's pick, we don't have to do this conversation annually. I don't know. I mean, I just want to see new blood. It's not, it's not a logical thing. Okay. There is some new blood in a new blood room. Can I make a little bit of a logical, maybe logical, maybe not logical case for the new blood thing is, I know the PJ tour doesn't want to hear this. But man, I'd rather have Koiv and be shit in his pants today than, you know, and I had a dear manner. Yeah. Yeah. Like, I don't know. I like, let's get it out of the system, man. Like, let's use this as a testing ground. Let's, let's get people in these team events early here. What, what, but what if, what if they build scar tissue, like, what if it really doesn't go very well? And then he's extra nervous for the rider. Come on. Should I play bad enough? Presidents cup. Am I ready for an away rider cup? Like, that's the other side of the coin. Well, then, then, then he stinks and we know. Maybe just yeah, yeah, I'm pro-coivan for the rest now. We have known you know, instead of having known unknowns You have you've known knowns. This was this I've I've brought this up before and this was in Shane Ryan's piece as well this past week of like on the US side It is not then it is not paid to have experience like rookies have done better In terms of like it like the it's good to get fresh blood in but it's not like the best to just you know blood them early And you're gonna have a great Ryder Cup career this is from the man's game. He's kind of the spiritual leader and in the team overall stinks as a macro So he ends up kind of feeling the brunt of that very much on the high side and the low side like he's just kind of That and that's unfair totally get it dig and I think that kind of goes with what you're saying of like Why does it not make sense because he always is like The guy, but he's also the easiest one to pin everything to well. It's just funny. It's like if you were building Let's just say we're blown up the whole system and you were designing your your dream American team cup player Like I would look a lot like JT Like almost exactly like JT Yeah, if I could just take a little bit of that JT and put him into like the number one play in the world Scotty Shepher And oh my goodness. Yeah Hi, then we'd be cooking boys JT's 96 and two in rider cups and he has moved to 11 three and two In presidents cups so combine that's 29 and four In US team events, which was probably the best effort for any American in history little juice by the president's cup like a lot of guys Like a lot of guys do but also playing with a bunch of different guys and You know, I will say I was super disappointed in him today He they made him put up a putt on the second hole from two feet 10 inches I clocked this and he would be upset about this and he did not do the move That's the reason that why like for sure a lot of people hate him so sure he's mature now But the best things that might be what makes him an American. He's like he wrote a type though like he Yeah, the president's cup needs that shit. It's like then Who was the guy wo joe the the old Duke guard that would like bang the floor and you know and everybody hates Duke and it's like You know, but yeah, but they're good and like that's that's kind of the JT thing You know, I think JT is more Duke's JJ retic like bad for like yeah, that's the difference though is like people like Duke fans Absolutely ride for him like I don't There are JT fans, but there's not like It's not a bunch of huge die hard like JT's my guy People out there unless I'm wrong. I don't know Like he doesn't have like the picture perfect history here either Okay, sure for people that are writing for JT all the time you got to there's some highs and lows. He got to go I was gonna say he kind of lost this game a little bit like on this hole like it his his Team match play career is very much the most steady thing in his entire career and everything else is kind of gone like this And these to your point like there's not ride or die JT fans really, but are there really like rider die us fans? I know. That's what fans. Yeah, exactly I think a lot of people still hold 2023 over JT like that you know, he went one and two It wasn't that big of a disaster, but and and speed anchored him But I think people thought he shouldn't have been on that team And he didn't have a winning record of that one in the US loss and I think that that that carries somehow carries more weight than the rest of of the record Yes, but we yeah, we don't last thing, but there's there's only one guy that makes anybody feel anything. I think that's correct You should be on the team too. You should get him on the team It was like looking danders that was that he's technically fresh blood at this point exactly new blood He's coming back around. He's blood spitting Last thing on JT I promise the bunker shot he hit on 13 will not be on any highlight reals But if you've seen this hole, it's like kind of a red dandy hole It's kind of weird little slope to the right of the screen. There's a bunker that if you go deep into to the front right pin today You are beyond toast like absolutely toast and he hit this bunker shot that was one of them like the crispest sounding bunker shots I've ever heard and the trajectory I don't know if I can never recall a trajectory of a bunker shot going as straight up as it did It ended up hitting the collar of the fringe and shooting forward way past the hole But there was an audible like Sound that came from like the international captains the guy is sitting around the cart near me when it happened And Cory Conner's hit right after that and hit it way past the hole as well But it was like it was it was wild to see like professional golfers freak out about a shot that another professional golfer hit today Listen, I want to see JT and who's he playing with tomorrow? Cameron young came young. I like that. I want to see him like You know after they beat Cory Conner's and Nico like I don't I'm not I'm not gonna pat him on the head for pooping in the potty today I want to see but Jake yeah, not not literally a bit of JT almost people for those guys say which did you had a great idea? This was an R&D. I don't know if this was ready for the show but he's gonna piss off like Trevor and woman Of the entire shield. This is just a blue sky whiteboard Anything's possible. Maybe some of these matches should be two on one Watching JT play with like with Coivin just in his pocket. I was like oh, this is actually pretty thrilling stuff And if it was if you had like Call it one match per session and was like one of the four ball matches was just You can throw out Scotty. He's just gonna play his own ball by himself Scotty might be better playing his That's from saying I think he'd be compelling Well, let's get to that match. This was the first match out minnulli sun jm versus uh Scotty and sam burns as I understand it The us deferred the opening pick and so the internationals had to go first which I think is an obviously an interesting wrinkle of this of hoop Who who put you know their team up against the other two guys. So minmoon sun j out first Stenetic or goes with Scotty and sam burns number one and number two ranked players in the world I believe in data golf maybe just for this event I think that was just the top two players but tight match all the way through Scotty birded the opening hole put the us one up They never had a bigger lead and that uh Scotty and sam actually birdied the first four holes But he Scotty did not make another birdie after the third hole sun j birdied three four and five to tie it back up And then he birdied the thirteenth hole that put the internationals one up burns bounce back with a birdie on fourteen And sun j inexplicably Three-putted de green himself on seventeen. He should not be three-putting from And that put the internationals one down Scotty hidden a greenside bunker on eighteen both Scotty and sam burns hidden greenside bunkers on eighteen But Scotty got it up and down easily from the front right bunker to secure a par or sun j had a long birdie putt that lift out and missed and the international's lost that one won up. The numbers from this one look a lot better than I think it felt probably watching on TV. In terms of it, it, it seemed like there was a pretty strong sentiment against this Scotty and Burns pairing Scotty at just the two birdies. Sam Burns had four. Scotty was plus 1.33 today. Burns plus 2.93. Minemoo struggled. He only had two birdies and he was in the negative on stroke skein. Sungjae had four birdies and was two strokes gained overall. But some of the best golf was actually played in this match. And this was most of the of the golf that was on on TV today. But it just didn't, it didn't sound like the eye test was really supporting a lot of that. I know you probably got to watch more on TV than we did, but what was what did you gather from that match? Good to see Sam Burns shed some of the like just Sam Burns stink sort of sort of stuff. You know, I think like seeing him play much more like himself at one of these team events was was good for, you know, those of us that like to watch Sam Burns play golf. Man, I don't mean this T.C. you know how much I don't want to say this. Minemoo Lee, I just don't think it's good at golf. I don't think he hits good golf shots. I know he's got a great personality. He takes to social media. I think he fooled me. I started flipping, you know, last year, what was it like Pebble? He played well or something like that where I was like, he looks like he's kind of playing a little bit more real golf. He's starting to flight shots. He's starting to hit off speed pitches. It just doesn't look good, man. I don't know. It's just not, not for me, taking away no box for me, please. No leftovers. Couldn't agree more. Yeah, Andrew Orville. Even raising the box is a pretty withering take, but I'm not going to bring the leftovers home with me. He can box them up, but I'm not bringing them home with me. I'm just like you said, he's not for me. I don't think he's a proper player. It feels like a really, really just it's just overrated to me. I'm just not, I'm just not like in just hitting poor shots in the moment when you need him to hit a good one. Yeah. I think about your line, you said about Sam Burns last year where he's like he's the best putter in the world until it's time to make putts. And it's, I feel a little bit like that with with Minwoo Lee. It's like, yeah, no, I think he's got all the shots until it's time to hit him. And then he's like just kind of disappears. Minwoo thing just feels unserious and like this feels a little, it feels a lot like Scotty and Sam Burns would have lost this match in the rider cup. Yeah. That's exactly how this felt. It felt like they did not play good enough or they played poor enough to give the internationals enough enough of an opportunity to take the match, like to just step on the throat and do it. And the internationals did not do it. And it just seems like something they would never get away with in the rider cup. It just did that with the exact, exactly. We don't have to do the question of like, why does this work in the president's cup and not work in the rider cup? It's because of the opponent. Like that's entirely what it is. Like that's the answer. And this match was the exact example. Like I do not think that we'll have about a half in the rider cup. I think that would have been a three and two loss, probably. They were playing a directional Michigan today instead of a road SEC. That's a little unfair. Sungjae played pretty darn well. It didn't, you know, didn't putt very well. Dude, Sungjae almost missed the ball off the first tee. That was horrible. They had another one where he like almost dropped the club like, boned it up there like six feet. It was. It's weird because that was a weird team to put out first, I thought. But the most opposite of of Minwoo, Sungjae seems like the worst good player in the world. Yeah, he's like 100%. Like he has the shots and he's really, really solid. He just doesn't seem to have any feel. Well, his, I mean, his iron plate was really, really good when he was coming up. And it has not been good over the last couple of years off the Grand Canyon. Like very, very bad. That better, again, this year, though, right? I'll bounce back a little bit. I think I'd have to check that. But, but my point being today, he was the best in the field. Stroke scan approach by over a shot. Like, he was the best iron player. He just let himself down on his team down on the greens. But he, T to green was the best player in need of all 20 that played today. Well, it was Sungjae, yeah. Which, man, those are our two, I guess, counteracting myself. Interesting team to throw out first, because if they do go out and play great golf, like they do seem like two of your, your big like momentum guys, you know, like if Sungjae and Min Woo Lee are out there, like, doing stuff and, and bring in energy, like, I think that can only be, only be good for the squad. There are two, two players that I like, I enjoy watching. I just, man, you see him hit a lot of bad shots. Weird, weird question here from @bradchefler. I don't know if there is any relation here. And it's spelled the same, but even with the win, parentheses, somehow, at what point do we scrap the Sheffler-Bern's pairing? They are one, three and one now together. This was their first win in what five matches between Presidents cups and Ryder cups together. They hadn't believe it or not. They had not played a match together since the 2023 Ryder Cup. They didn't play together last year at Beth Page and did not play together in Montreal. That was Scotty was playing more with Russ Henley. But we're not scrappin' it tomorrow. They're going out first to get into tomorrow. Correct. They are, they're out. Do we think we're going to ride this out for all 14 matches? Are they going to try to see what they have with this pairing? They're trying to turn their mojo around? Yeah, I don't know, I don't know what it is, man. There's just something, to your point, Sam Burns played really well today. But Scotty, just like, I don't, I feel like I'm on first take when I say this. But like, does he care? Like, does he really care about this? Like, he just seems like he shows up at these events, not sharp. And I get that it's different and it's a different routine and it's match play, but it just doesn't seem to bother him that he doesn't really have his best stuff. The same thing we used to say about Tiger. I know. It feels very familiar. But isn't that, gosh, I feel like that should almost be, I don't know, that should almost be like comforting instead of concerning in a way, right? Where it's like, there's a there's a reason why they're so fucking wired to win individual golf tournaments like that. And to me, it's almost like, I don't know, it's almost kind of charming. It's almost got a charming that he like has that same problem as Tiger at these events. Like, he just clearly has the recipe. He's not going to deviate it ever. He doesn't deviate like, we say this all the time where it's like when he shows up to the British open or he shows up to the Byron Nelson. It like, man, it looks like he's doing the exact same stuff. He's there to win. And I just almost wonder if that's incompatible with all the like, let's go hang in the team room and let's go do this. And come on, are you showing enough emotion? Should we do, should we have a silly handshake? Should we, should we, should I pump up the crowd after I make this? Like, I wonder, I don't know. I'm with you. You start to feel like Stephen A Smith or something, but it's, that can't be a coincidence. Those are the, those are the two guys that like struggle from this weird syndrome. Yeah. Could they send him out solo? It's interesting. Like, I'm getting more and more, get them more asking, in for bowl. I love that. I mean, if he's not going to be good in team events, the US will lose the next five rider cups. And this is a fun exhibition event. And they want to play well. They like to play well. But, like, him and Xander will get that match next just kind of seem like they showed up pretty not sharp, just not, not anywhere near the level of consistency that we would expect to see. I know it's one round and I know it's, again, quite first takey, but it's just, it's impossible not to get that vibe when you're not bringing any different kind of energy than what you bring to a Thursday to buy a Nelson. That's, that's the easy, narrative way we get to that kind of hot take, I guess. And I guess, well, I guess circling back to your original question, like, I don't think that that all of a sudden changes. If it's like, okay, well, we're going to shake it up and put you out with Jacob Bridgeman. Like he looks very human in these events. And this is through one session. He might hit the gas pedal. He might go five and know this week. He very well could. He was solid all day and had a certain lightness about him was kind of just bouncing around and gliding around and smiling and I got to give Wyndham credit every time I saw him in the practice round, so he was doing that exact thing. He was a leader and going straight up to the kids and signing for them and just, I heard him and I don't know what was said before it, but just kind of needling Jackson Coivan when they were putting around on the ninth green, he was almost like an upperclassman and a fraternity, like hazing a pledge in some way, just kept calling him rook, but in a kind of an endearing way. So it's been nothing of a positive vibe from Wyndham and that putter is a weapon. He made every time I he popped up on the screen, I was watching something on my phone while I was out there and every time he popped up, it seemed like he was making a 12 to 15 footer today. Yeah. Yeah. To your earlier comments, Olli, he had some comments about not feeling the fans out there. So I don't know what was going on, but it couldn't really feel the energy out there. Hopefully they get it turned around this weekend, which I don't say that as a slight to Wyndham. I think that's just, that's an interesting takeaway, especially when you're up three to two. It was like it was just great really really fun variety of shots on display there The highlight of it for me it was a short drivable ish For that made you think one and just hitting it up near the green Was not it like you had to hit a good shot in a good spot or you paid a price and it was not a gimme birdie Just hitting it up close to the green like that's like the coven shot Coven hit an excellent t-shot that you know was probably 45 yards I could check the exact yard that he was in the fairway able to spin it easily JT had just pulled his just left of the bunker had to deal with the big mound on the back side of a bunker Ended up carrying it too far Cripped onto the green but didn't take a slope and get down like he paid a price for hitting a you know not that much worse T-shot than than Coven did but it was worse and After Nico at your veria hit it in the water Cory Connors had to take three wood lay up and play way back He had a really nice shot in there and made the birdie if I remember right As well and they have that hole But it was just it was good good good match play hole. I hope they keep that tee up Um for and the wind played made it made that shot really interesting today as well That's a good just standing behind 11 like I stood behind 11 green today And you can see so much see 11 green you see that that that par three earlier on you see across the 12 you can see 13 like it's it's made for viewing. I think they just got to figure out How to maximize it. I think it's going to take a couple of reps here to figure out how to maximize it Yeah, I got a lot of questions on where you know I'm going this weekend where should we go where should we post up? I thought seven green was the first good spot to watch from in terms of there's some places to sit there And there's a nut it's a par three And there's a TV screen there So if you're looking to get ahead of the action you can watch a bunch of the golf on TV As they get up there because as I mentioned those first six holes could be some really tough viewing I think parking on seven watching that par three Is a good spot because of the screen that's always my advice for these team events get somewhere ahead Where you can actually watch something on the screen and that time's going to go a lot faster also Shout to AT&T if I may say the connection out there was great that some of the best cell service I've ever had and I was able to live stream all of the golf out there So if you got YouTube TV as well, you can watch it on your phone Your wait for groups come through there's a big grove of oaks back in that area as well it's like nice shade tree and stuff. There's a good grandstand behind the 10th green And there's a ton of hospitality on that hole as well But if you're looking for a spot to just post up and and watch groups come through 10 is not bad there Grandstand behind 13 t the par three gives you a good view of 12 as well You can see all the action happening on 12 and you can see the t-shirts right in front of you on 13 And you can easily see the 13 green as well or some some decent viewing spots But again, if you're trying to follow matches, it's going to be very difficult out there To see a lot of action so get into a good spot and posting up and watching watching the golf come through I think is a is a good option. So I got a shout out some of the food out there I wasn't expecting it's a To go this hard. It's familiar with your game. Oh, there's there's area called the loop over off of kind of 1 and 18 over on the east side of the property club city barbecue local barbecue spot.
