The episode blends humor and heartfelt reflections from a recent trip to Lake Geneva, where the hosts recount a series of chaotic yet memorable events. A key moment involves a misdirected hometown tour to Vernon Hills, which unexpectedly leads to a deep emotional connection with old high school friends, reigniting memories of shared habits and inside jokes. The group reflects on their enduring friendships, including a now-famous incident of forcing everyone to watch *Mr. Nobody* during high school, which underscores how certain behaviors stay unchanged over time. The conversation shifts to personal and financial challenges, including the decision to keep or sell a million-dollar Aston Martin, which ties into a broader internal conflict about letting go of material possessions and emotional attachments. The hosts also explore the emotional weight of loyalty—particularly to family, like their mother, and to friends—highlighting their struggles with anxiety, responsibility, and the fear of missing out on meaningful experiences. A recurring theme is the tension between personal comfort and the desire for growth, especially in relation to home ownership and social life. Ultimately, the episode balances personal anecdotes with deeper reflections on identity, responsibility, and the evolving nature of belonging, concluding with a reminder of the importance of balance, presence, and genuine connection in everyday life.
what's up guys welcome back to views we are back with another episode jason and i just got back
from a trip oh man we were just killing it out there on the lake weren't we dave we were jason
really pissed me off at the lake house oh i had a major major fumble you know my age i should know
better but also you operate like a whirling dervish so i definitely understand i'm crazy
yeah um i i acknowledge my faults oh wow we were leaving the lake house and and we took one of the
cars there's two cars that we rented um i took the car earlier so i could take everyone to vernon
hills my hometown you know how much i love giving people hometown tours which i had no idea you
were doing that yeah well i got back from coffee i didn't know we had enough time
to do it okay so uh yeah before the flight i was like let's go do the hometown tour real quick
everyone got in my car i was so excited because i was beating the rest of the house by 20 minutes
and i had new people in in the car that i've never seen vernon hills so i was excited to show them
and uh like 20 minutes into the drive jason goes fuck dave i go what he goes i have the
key to the other car it's about 14 20 felt like 20 it's about 14 it's 11 minutes to the road
so then we had a turnaround yeah and i got back from coffee and i was just like he was like jay jump
in the car jump in the car and i was like oh wait are we coming back here no oh what about my
luggage and then so then it's like my luggage is going in one car i gotta get naveen i'm like it
was i even said i said go go go without me go without me it was a very dramatic way to start
and i'm and who cares about the 20 minutes who are you beating we never saw natalie at all because
we beat her well who cares we didn't even meet up with her you didn't even get the moment of
you natalie we weren't even with her who are you racing against i wanted it because i wanted the
tour to be like i want to be us to get out of the car go to the park enjoy it but like you noticed
how quick i was doing the tour because we didn't have a lot of time oh i wish you would i wish
everybody could see that tour because i don't think it'll make the vlog but i don't think it's
gonna make the vlog it was really fun you should put it out somehow maybe just put it on spotify
i think i'll do like a vernon hills tour like in a different vlog like when we open dobrix oh like i
would be a really cool like in-depth like this is my childhood like reenacting scenes yes get an
actress to play where i got my first kiss oh yes you know what i mean yeah david pointed out the
gazebo where he had his first kiss he he pointed out it was a blast well we had a real chicago
filled experience i went back i had my friend's wedding yeah congratulations to the nabbits uh
jake and nicole i wonder how she felt about that last name taking that last name the nabbits yeah
yeah it was those it was funny when one of because they've known each other so okay so his name's jake
nabbit yeah the great guy but everybody great guy everybody calls him nabbit sure which is a really
funny like last name yeah yeah and and in in her like in when they were giving their vows because
they've known each other forever yeah right since like elementary school yeah and started dating in
college so in high school they weren't dating they were just friends like oh like we all were
oh wow and they all went to the same high school i went to vernon hills and in her speech she says
that there was i remember a time where i had to realize that i had to stop calling you nabbit and
start calling you by your real first name oh wow which is really funny that's like a funny change
to make like you're no longer nabbit you're jake you're jake to me my my fiance or my boyfriend
it was really fun i got to connect with like old high school friends i really like when i remember
things about high school yeah and they're like reassured to me like exactly the way they were
like i ran to one of my friends and he was like oh my god i'm so sorry i'm so sorry i'm so sorry
he was talking about he's like do you remember there was there's one time you came over i didn't
know you and ilia's like can my friend david come over and this is the only time i've really let
anybody come over to my house like any like even ilia was never over at my house and we all sit
down like at the couch uh like on the couch and we're not really talking or doing anything
and you just out of nowhere insist that we have to watch mr nobody and you would not let it go you
you said we all have to sit and we have to watch this movie
and i'm like that's fucking crazy because i just made my roommates watch mr nobody literally like
literally four four weeks ago i don't know we talked about on the podcast wait remind me who's
in that keanu no mr nobody is jared leto got it was one of my movie recommendations yes yes um
and yeah and it was like it was very very on par with exactly how i operate today uh he was like i
didn't even really know you i didn't know you but you were like we have to watch mr nobody do you
remember that
i didn't know you but you were like we have to watch mr nobody do you remember that
uh no no no he said this was like this was like freshman year of high school
wow so i was 14 years old that's a really long time ago which is in some ways that's like so
awesome that you haven't changed yeah i mean i i was obviously frozen in time from when i left high
school like that's obvious right like habits of disney stars it happened i don't think i had like
a real job i was frozen in time um which is really funny and this other girl this other girl was like
i was telling her i was like we i think we had like probably the most classes together in high
school i don't think i had like a real job i was frozen in time um which is really funny
anybody i know and she's like i used to copy off you all the time and i was like you used to copy
off me and she's like yeah because you would always have the answers from somebody else oh
and i was like wow okay that checks out she's like yeah you don't remember me going she's like
you don't remember me going to your locker before spanish because you would already have the answers
to a test that we were about to go take and i was like wow yeah okay i was just so excited i was
like what are you thinking when you're getting to the wedding you're just like so excited just to
have somebody bring up high school so excited
yeah what were you thinking even jake like made a joke i don't know what he said exactly but he was
like this i feel like this is more exciting for you than anybody here because it was like a high
school reunion yeah like it was really exciting yeah i mean it was it was more more uh the high
school reunion was like more random people yeah like people i necessarily wasn't like hanging out
with on a day-to-day basis yeah this wedding was like people that like i knew and i like i'd like
kept in touch with like i'll see them but it was crazy to think like after the wedding
like we all went out like i got a part natalie got a party bus great and we fit like i'm not
kidding you like 50 people on this like actually dead ass 50 people on this party bus and took
them all to the club got a table like in the city yeah in the city oh wow and we all really
the wedding was beautiful it was at this it was at the lowes hotel oh and it was a very city
vibe wedding so we could probably party fun yeah so fun in the summer um yes um but um
yeah took all these people to the to the club and i was already very drunk at the club
which kind of sucks because i kind of like blew my load early at the wedding i got too drunk there
um but then i was like saying goodbye to some people that like all live in different parts
of the world like yeah all our vernon hills friends are all over the place now and i was
just kind of crazy i was like okay i'll see you later i was like dapping them up but like in my
head i'm like oh there's like a chance i'll never ever ever ever ever see this person in my life
again like this person has just died in to my eyes do you know what i mean and i was like oh
like it's it there may be a good chance i'll never ever see them again well it's kind of crazy
thing will there be a 20-year reunion uh i don't know probably i mean i said i want to do one every
fucking year oh yeah we talked about that didn't we yeah yeah why don't you do a little thing i
brought that up to my friends to like everybody at the wedding when we were all together it was
yeah i was like i think it was like 20 of us from high school we took a group picture at one point
and i was like how do you guys feel about doing a reunion like every year and they were like no
it was very unanimous they were like we can we can maybe do one every 10 years but like please
like we cannot do one every year i'm like are you guys sure um but a lot of them have like kids
it's it's very rare that any of them are single really did you see any like ex-girlfriends or
girls you had crushes on or um yes i yes uh that's that's a girl i see like quite often
is a girl how does that go she married oh she's married yeah it doesn't really like go
like doesn't go anywhere yeah yeah yeah um is it the same do you look at her the same
no no yeah she's like grown up now no no it's totally different yeah yeah it's funny um but
it is it's i don't know i fucking love seeing people from high school oh my god it really is
amazing and it gives me like such like it gives me such an energizing feel like i'm like when i
come back to la i'm like okay like time to do la again for a couple years until gives you a little
fix i get that
yeah wow it's literally like doing crack pick me up yeah do you hang out with ilia um yeah ilia was
ilia was having a good time ilia wore a hat to the wedding right he wore a zilla hat to the wedding
that's okay which i thought was ridiculous well he has to he had a hair job um yes yeah he had
a hair transplant but but it's still like you don't you don't need to do that well yes he does
to a wedding though his hair's not done and he's with still cooking he's with like our hometown
friends like like what's going on he's like oh my god he's like oh my god he's like oh my god
yeah but then you're in a picture and that picture goes on forever oh my god and then what you're
embarrassed yeah you're gonna look at the picture you'll be like look how funny i looked when i was
getting my hair transplant like ridiculous oh yeah not everybody has that skill you're gonna look like
an idiot with a hat on i've worn hats to weddings okay you have and i feel like an idiot oh i see
and i'll do it in the future i actually don't know why i was so i don't know i don't know
if you've done i've never worn a hat to a wedding i've and i say it's okay i actually don't know
why why did you wear a hat to a wedding i don't think i ever wore a hat to a wedding i take that
back i've i put
the hat on after like when we're at the party sure at heath and mariah's wedding they had hats they
gave us yes and i put it on at the party yes but like i'm now i don't think i've ever worn a hat
to the part of the wedding no i've never where everyone's sitting down and they're getting
married the ceremony yeah yeah like the fun part where people like start taking off like they're
like suits that's where i'm like okay maybe it's okay to slip on you wear a hat to your fancy
parties um yeah like your birthday which was black tie you had a hat on oh yeah yeah that that that's
different that's your party you can do whatever you want it's my my my rules wow um but yeah was
the lake house everything you wanted it to be yeah then we went to the lake house in lake geneva
yeah it was fun it was it was really why yeah because everyone else is talking about it
differently than you everyone else is talking about it like whoa that was the best time
every every ounce of it yeah i don't know i think i got like all my fun i wanted to do the lake house
yeah before chicago because i was like i'm not gonna have any like chicago is my peak of like
probably my six months you know yeah like out of six months of my life being in chicago is gonna
be my peak the lake house is gonna feel like i'm coming off of mali like after reuniting with all
my vernon hillsians so like i yeah it was yeah it was good you know cool yeah um but um what was
cool about the lake house is the the boat driver who came by tucker was his name was tucker shout
out and he was he was unrecognizable but was my doubles partner in high school right um and and
unrecognizable because he was a freshman and i was a junior so i i didn't have that many years with
him but i played tennis with him for two years he was on our team and he was the best on our tennis
team yeah and he was just randomly our boat guy um and he was randomly our boat guy like now he's
a full beard is no longer 4 foot 11 yeah he's an overlander yeah what's that he he takes six months
off he goes off the grid goes off the grid yeah yeah so that was fun got a little vernon hills
reunion there he's a big views fan and i said well how do you he listens to views yeah he goes he
goes well he's he goes you're what i listen to when i'm off the grid and i go well wait a minute
that's not off the i go that's not off the grid and he goes download brother pre-download i was
like wow damn wow no way okay well shout out tucker yeah everyone really really liked him he
was the best best tour boat guy stunt guy whatever he was doing in the water
yeah he did amazing tricks on his his board and i literally saw mclean was like falling in love with
him yeah like everyone was taking a turn on the wakeboarding and doing pretty well some people
were doing okay and then he got out there and he started he he literally dropped the rope yeah
and so now he's just surfing the wave in the wake of the the boat but still behind the boat but still
behind the boat it looks like he's still attached to the boat yeah but forever yeah yeah for five
minutes ten minutes he could go yeah i don't really understand how that works he's just surfing that
wave and spinning and flipping like how is he how is he still going towards the boat he's in that
wake at all times it's so weird whatever wake the boat is creating he's on that wave yeah but like
no rope attached to nothing no engine no engine on the thing i even said that i go oh i see there's
an engine on the board and he's like no he's like watch and then when he did it the girls started
to scream uncontrollably like like this
like it was wild yeah i mean it's he really brought it out yeah yeah yeah i've never done
that to a woman really yeah certainly not wake did you have to hold back naveen i said to naveen
if you want to let out a few screams you can't you're the only one not screaming even natalie
even natalie was like wow yeah
yeah even tucker got the feminine side out of natalie
so i need some financial advice here okay great i'm the guy to talk to you you know me all my
finances are square i could talk about this now because i i because now i'm like now i'm
kind of confused what to do so i you know i bought the valhalla the the really expensive
remind everybody what it is it's an aston martin okay it's very expensive green yeah
very beautiful yeah can't take it over a speed bump uh can't take it over a speed bump i mean
no you can't scrapes when you leave the driveway no it doesn't scrape it has a beautiful lift but
it is very dangerous to to take anywhere it's 1.2 million dollars now when i bought the car
i was never planning on keeping it for like over a year yeah because it's i'm not i'm i'm i'm very
fortunate but there's in no world am i going to house a million dollar car okay i think it's just
completely irresponsible unless i'm a billionaire and i could buy these like by the snap of my
fingers yeah so like i bought it knowing that i'd be able to break even on it at the very
least yeah so what happened is um like a month or two ago i i put it on for sale and i got an
offer so i bought it for 1.2 i got an offer for 1.6 which was kick-ass so i got to drive the car
for a couple months and then someone was going to pay me four hundred thousand dollars over sticker
just to take it from me and i told him i said the the paperwork was all damn near signed he's a very
serious buyer but he needed it right away and i was like i'm so sorry like you need to wait
one and a half more weeks it was like eight days because my friend mike and nick are coming into
town and they haven't seen the car and like if i bought this car for any reason it's to be able to
share with my friends and just show them and like i need them to see it you told him
this you told the series no no no no you just said wait a week and a half i said it's very
important something's going on i can't i can't give you the car yet i'm out of town i made
are you out of your fucking mind i made some excuse up why did you do that i don't know i'm
an idiot and then i and then he's like this goes back to your high school and then he goes and
then he goes listen like if you like if i can't have the car in two days like i'm i'm gonna have
to go find another place his friends are coming to town and yeah his friends are coming into town
my friends are stopping and i need them for right now
and that makes sense because if you're if you're buying a car for four hundred thousand dollars
over sticker i didn't think of this at the time when you want it that second you deserve it that
second right because you're paying over he could go anywhere else and buy the car and wait six
months for it but he's in pay he wants it now and that's exactly what he's paying for that's
the premium he's paying for but i was like i i thought he was bluffing so i was like i'm so sorry
eight days it's all yours eight days come around reach out to him he bought he bought a new one four
days ago
yeah so i completely fucked up lost that and ever since then i've been chasing that same amount
um and it's harder to find that amount that was like that was like the big amount i could still
get sticker price so i've lost no money on it yeah um but now my gut is doing something and
it's telling me to hold off and to keep this car for a really long time because i think it's going
to go up so i don't know what to do yeah maybe that will happen uh like next spring it'll suddenly
be didn't that just happen with ferrari yeah
do we talk about that in a pot i think so the yeah the the car corona got me that you paid half a
million dollars for is now all of a sudden within the last month is going for seven hundred thousand
dollars so the car i drive that i got for free that was a half a million dollar car is now a
seven hundred thousand dollar free car which is fucking crazy um so ferrari's going up and then
steve will do it also got me a ferrari which that's definitely not going down got me half a
so that's how i justify that um and now i'm i have a feeling if i hold this car
um it's going to go up again like to a ridiculous amount but not for a couple years
yeah um but are you liquid enough to hold on to it that's the thing is now
like i i'm like i i don't i don't need a loan well here's yeah i just think it's irresponsible
to have a car that expensive so i don't know okay and then this is this is this is where
i'm running into the problem where i really need to sell the car is this new house i've
been talking about right it's looking like i may in order to get at all the remodels
done that i want yeah and if i want to like if i don't want to bring investors into it
and i want to own this new house i'm gonna have to sell this house which i don't know
if i should do right jay because i i told you about this on the pod a couple months
ago i had a dream that i sold this house and it sent me into like a really weird panic
i don't remember this oh okay tell me well nothing i just had i had a dream that i sold
it and it was what happened in the dream it was a really big mistake it like turned my
life upside down like what do you think in reality would happen if you sold this house
well in reality i have all my happiness tied to this house right um but i have um i have
this reoccurring theme when i'm when i like when i when i move from my apartment to my
first house i bought my new house and i didn't move into that house i remember that for months
i remember because i was like this thing sucks like the apartment's so much better i love
shooting in the apartment like i'm not fucking leaving the apartment right um and then when
i moved i was like what the fuck was i thinking right i was like what the fuck was i thinking
i love this house and i loved it so much where i was like i can't believe i was ever at the
apartment like that made no sense yeah and then i bought this house yeah and it took
me months to move into this house same situation i could not let go i'm obviously like yeah
a nostalgic guy yeah i have a really hard time letting go of things yeah um and i was
like yeah i made i was like i shouldn't have bought this new bigger house like it's never
gonna be like the beautiful house that my last house was and then i moved here and now this is
is the peak of my existence,
living in this home so you see the pattern right i see a pattern um but like are you but i've never
had dreams that have told me not to but but yeah are you able are you able to let go of this house
i don't know but but this new house would be like this new house would be like the ultimate like i
love having people over i love like i i just want to have like i want a house that's so like the
reason i'm upgrading this house is not because i need a bigger house i don't need a bigger house
but it's it's my neighbors get really upset when i have 100 people over every week or every day
what 40 50 people go go through here every day maybe 70 um so like i just want a house this
house is a bigger driveway this newer one and like i want it i want a place where it doesn't
bother anybody that i'm hosting a lot of people yeah this is like this is it this is it this
great location great location could host as many people as i want no one will be upset no
um
but yeah then i have to let go of this so i don't know but you've seen the new house what do you
think it has the potential to be like you know like one of the greatest houses in l like an ep
it has the potential to be like an epicenter of something it's like it has the potential to be
like oh yeah we're doing it at the dobrik oh it's got like a potential aura it's got potential aura
yeah like i could see it in a magazine i could see it i could see it as like a place where people
want to have their functions i could see it as just like i almost honestly when i saw it i was
like wow david could really like bring back la with this house really that's what i felt about
it yeah well we're really hyping it up though to people okay let's not do that no you can but just
also paint the picture it's like a complete piece of shit yes that's why it requires money it is
a complete teardown yes needs to be it's not a modern looking house it's an older vibe looking
house yes but you can see the valley and you can't see the
you can't see it but i think can we only see it because we live in la
no it just wasn't clear that day you can see the ocean no no no i'm saying the value of the house
like i'm saying if like someone from like arkansas came yeah they wouldn't get it they'd be like this
is just a regular house but no they get it but like in la they'd get it if i went hey that's
santa monica and i went and also that's vegas no no but like you know what i mean but like i think
you get it because like in la uh you don't get that you don't get that much house you don't get
that much house no for that price no i like okay so why this house is very amazing because i found
it off market it was not listed on the market and it was brought to me by a friend so no one's seen
this house and it is a gem even if i buy it and flip it right away it'll be worth it without even
like touching it and just putting it on the market i think i'll make money um but yeah so jay if it
comes down to it do i sell this house and let go of what i love yeah really what's what's who cares
who cares i mean i guess you don't understand what i feel towards this place like the level of
like i love my house but it's like if someone if i had the opportunity to live somewhere nicer
i'd be like oh cool had a good time here but nicer is like such an interesting like way of
like it's like so subjective not even nicer it's just like you know life is is full of chapters
and this house out of all my homes has been the the place i've won lived the longest and spent
the most leisurely
leisurely time now we're getting to what this is about well well yeah like in my apartment out the
most yeah my apartment i wasn't hanging i was working in my in my last house i was working
this house like especially when i wasn't vlogging when i was just doing my snap era
yeah i was literally snap era i was just fucking in i was in the house what time would you start
snap 20 uh i would start around 1 p.m and finish around 3 p.m and then the rest i would just be
hanging out at the house
and most of snap was at the house yeah
well what do you what do you mean what are you trying to say that's what i'm saying i'm saying
all the time was spent here i think it's funny to watch you i think it's funny to watch you lounge
because nobody lounges like you man but that's what you're the best you're the best at it you're
the best in the biz no you know who the best is at lounging who who you know me like if i can't
lounge i literally can't like even when i was at the lake i went down and i was like i'm gonna sit
here then i saw alex fishing yeah about about 20 feet away and then i walked over there and i sat
there for 30 seconds then i sat somewhere else you plant yourself down who's the best at lounging
al pacino oh i haven't seen him lounge uh not in real life i'm talking about have you i just
watched donnie brasco yesterday great movie um and just the way he sits is so nice he kind of
sticks his belly out
sits lower on the couch and just like and still kind of delivers his fucking pizzazz you know
he's still just like he's still like me mugging you yeah even though he's sitting like a slob
that's what i think is cool i think that is one of the best loungers i've ever seen really you know
anybody else um that could just say anybody from real life uh jonah's really good because like
when jonah sits obviously he's a bigger guy yeah everything just
fuck
seems like it like almost like falls into place like like a like a cup in a cup holder like
everything just sort of like stacks on top of each other and it looks like it's resting yeah
more he's got layers right so he's just like his stomach is in layers yeah and like it'll all lay
on top of each other perfectly yeah and it'll look like he's lounging 10x harder which i think
he genuinely is i think him sitting down is 10x harder than him sitting down is 10x harder than
10x more of a relief than like me sitting down it's pleasing to watch him very pleasing and he
does it so well but he doesn't like lounging he but when he does it he does it well yeah he he um
he he loved the jet ski so much loves the jet ski and so one morning tucker was out there and he
taught jonah how to make the jet ski stand up and so jonah told me that fat guys love jet skis
yeah
and then i was kind of i was thinking about it all trip and i was like
you're right yeah bigger guys like dj khaled possibly the number one jet ski fan in the world
right or wave runner fan um and yeah jonah was on it for like a couple a couple hours
yeah we were on the boat and jonah would just be next to us doing that one trick over and over
again just popping a wheelie just popping a wheelie yeah for about two hours yeah he got he
even got a ticket on the boat there's nobody there's nobody on the water except us because
we were on a lake house on a monday tuesday and the police came by and gave him a ticket
um and uh as he was getting a ticket i pull up next to him on my wave runner and he's like well
you should see my buddy david dobrik you should see how fast he was going he was trying to like
snitch on me as a joke and i'm like don't even do that as a joke because they're gonna fucking
give me a ticket next um so yeah that was really fun i was talking to natalie about like jack's
dining room yeah do you know he has like the job of like yeah that's like natalie's dream room
yeah do you know he has like the job of like yeah that's like natalie's dream room yeah that's like natalie's
like the job of like yeah that's like natalie's dream job to go and review food yeah but i i was
like that sounds like a headache like having to go find a new place like i am such a creature of
habit it's a headache like going to switch like i i love food yeah more than anyone and i think
waiting for a meal every day like waiting for my two meals a day that i get is like one of the peak
reasons to live but i am such a basic bitch when i like i am i eat five places like a dave's hot
lay subway jimmy john's jersey mike's like that's it that's all i get but every time i have it it's
like i'm eating fucking like something made by the best chef in the world like i don't love going to
restaurants i love eating in my house um but i think it's such a blessing to be able to do that
i went to a little food uh thing the other night with uh like an opening of a restaurant and there
was a lot of food influencers there and i got into like a heated argument about a restaurant that i
didn't like and i was like i don't know what to do with it i don't know what to do with it i don't
like and this influencer liked it it was really interesting yeah because i was just like i don't
know i he started poking me and i was like i don't know i didn't like it and he was like what the hell
are you saying and it was like and then there were other food influencers around me and it was almost
like it was like tense because like they were like all on me about this one place and i was like i
didn't care for it well you have hot takes about food but i didn't like it and they were like there
were like uh they were like well it's it's it's more it's more northern it's more northern cuisine
and i was like okay okay i'm like what the fuck do you want me to say like i don't know like rating
food is one of those things that's just like all right well i yeah yeah that's what you liked but
it's it can't be your personality i don't like it you know what i mean i don't like rating food
because i don't like i i think it's just all subjective it's subjective exactly but like i
don't like i would never i don't unless it's a private conversation yeah i don't like
putting down food spots because i just think it's like right it's someone's bread and butter
i agree that's why i really like how jack jack does it uh how kev eats does it like they're all
really positive about it yes and like you'll never see a review where they're like this place sucked
or this was grand like i fucking i can't i can't believe that people could put down a food place
yeah i think that's really really bizarre because it is subjective and it's like someone's livelihood
yeah especially when it's a small mom and
pop shop i'm like why are you going to go and critique this place just because you don't like
it and not turn your audience away from it but i really love how jack and they they all do it
because it's always so positive and they're always just shining a light no matter whether
or not they like the food
But, yeah, that's why I think it's a tough job.
Because, one, I'm too lazy and I wouldn't be able to drive to all these food places.
And, two, I just know what I like.
Also, it's tough to think of stuff to say.
Oh, yeah.
Like, it tastes good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was thinking about going out a little more.
Like drinking?
Yeah.
You know why?
And I know I go back and forth about this.
Why?
Because I'm, like, a really big hypochondriac.
Okay.
And, like, if I have something to do in a week and a half, I don't like to move from my house.
Because I don't want to get sick.
But I think it's, like, hurting me.
Right.
You can't live in fear.
Yeah.
Because, one, it's living in fear.
And, two, I think, like, when you're not around people, I think that's when you, like, start fucking yourself.
Like, your immune system needs to be, like, constantly around people.
So I think you need to keep a high alert.
Yeah.
And, like, I don't know.
What's wrong with me?
I'm just, like, I'll just sit.
And, like, when I overthink it, that's when I'll start getting sick.
And then, so, I think I need to start going out.
At least, like, leisurely.
Like, not, like, get drunk.
I don't really like getting drunk.
But, like, just going out.
I've been going.
I've been having boys night with, like, Ilya, Alex, and John that we talk about a lot.
Yeah.
And it's really, really nice.
Yeah.
We don't get, like, hammered.
We don't stay out till, like, we get to bed by, like, 1.30, 1.
That's nice.
And it's, like, really nice.
We get to just kind of, like.
What night of the week would you have boys night?
Is it better on a weekend?
Friday or Saturday.
Friday or Saturday.
Because I thought in L.A. it's better to go out on, like, a Wednesday or Thursday.
There's no good day anymore.
It's really not good?
It's all just rubbish.
Really?
Yeah, it sucks.
But this is.
But COVID did this, right?
Like, COVID did it everywhere.
It's not a good.
I was in Chicago, and I was talking to, like, the main promoter there.
And he's, like, nightlife here is fucking horrible.
Chicago said that?
One of the guys in Chicago.
Obviously.
It's case by case, right?
There's people in L.A. that are probably listening to this.
And they're, like, David, you're an idiot.
You're just not going to the right places.
Sure.
Like, yes.
There's groups of people that are still having the best time of their life in Chicago.
Because they found the spot that all their friends go to.
It's for sure not, like.
This isn't a whole thing.
But, like, in general, I feel like the consensus of nightlife was completely different pre-COVID.
Yeah.
And also, it's, like, a statistic now.
That, like.
Like, even beer companies are not selling as much beer.
Because, like, younger people are not drinking beer, right?
Gen Z has cost alcohol companies, like, billions and billions and billions of dollars.
Which is why.
Why is that?
No drinky.
No drinky.
Look at Scan.
Scan don't drink.
I think.
You know what I think is really interesting?
Uh-huh.
Is watching, like, you guys who are 30.
And then I see, like, Scan and Bella who are, like, what are they?
22?
20?
Oh, that's really interesting.
That's really interesting.
I never even realized.
Like, a big difference.
Like, there's, like, even at eight years, there's a difference between you guys.
Wait, I never even realized that.
Because Scan doesn't drink.
Natalie's little sister doesn't drink.
Yeah.
Natalie's other little sister doesn't drink.
Why didn't Charlie pound it out?
Really?
No, I don't know.
Do they drink?
I'm not sure.
Wow, okay.
I mean, not much.
So, like, so Natalie's other little sister.
Not Bella, but the other one, Lauren.
She doesn't drink.
And one of her main inspirations for not drinking is Noah Beck.
Who's another, who's another guy who doesn't drink and who's in that age group.
It's really interesting.
It really is, like, yeah, I mean, I guess it's just that generation is just, like, kind of over it.
Noah's your age, isn't he?
No, Noah's younger.
Oh, he's younger.
Noah's in that, like, younger generation bracket.
Yeah, I thought that was interesting yesterday when you said you saw these kids at the Chipotle and they didn't.
In Vernon Hills.
Yeah, at the Chipotle in Vernon Hills.
And they, like, didn't feel.
They didn't feel like Vernon Hills kids.
Yeah.
Because they've been raised by the internet.
Yeah.
Which I think is really interesting.
I met a bunch of these kids at, in Vernon Hills.
Yeah.
And normally, normally, especially with, like, meeting people out and about, I can immediately tell if someone's from the Midwest.
Like, it's, like, it's very, especially in L.A., if I'm talking to someone for about two minutes, I'm like, I know you're from the Midwest.
Because you can just, it's just, like, a different type of nature or, like, even a polite.
or just like the way they like yeah they go about themselves is very midwest yeah same thing in
boston yeah and i'm sure you could tell say with the east coast and with people from the south and
like even west coast people can tell west coast people yeah i think it's like anyway but when we
were in vernon hills and we were running into groups of kids there i was like if you placed
me here and i had no idea where i was i wouldn't be able to tell you where these kids are from
yeah because they all felt like kids from anywhere because i think everyone is just
consuming the exact same the exact same feed the exact same algorithm and it's like it's all it all
feels like everyone's being raised by the same thing and every kid feels like the same
so interesting yeah and it was the first time i've ever felt that i was like whoa
these vernon hills kids feel like the exact kids i'm meeting in la yeah not that there's anything
bad about it
yeah
but it's just like this like it's like this distinction where i'm like oh this is just like
it's a it's a it's a certain um it's like a maturity i don't know if maturity is the right
word it's like a it's like a level of confidence yeah a level of confidence and a level of like
know-it-allness yes yeah yeah that you didn't used to see yeah because everyone's yes exactly
everyone's like tapped in and no one's no one has any reservation about them yeah normally people
are a little bit more reserved but like now when you have conversations with kids it's almost like
everyone's constantly streaming like the way they're talking it's not like with like an not
like with an ego but with like a just no wall i don't know how to describe it but there's just like
there's no filter and they're just kind of like talking where i used to be yeah it's very and
maybe that's just me getting older but like it was very interesting how i was like feeling it and
it felt very different than ever before i'm feeling pretty torn up today dave why my mom
went to the hospital yesterday and she's fine she's fine she's for what i don't know this this
woman comes and like randomly takes her blood pressure like once a month and she and she took
it and she was like oh my god your blood pressure is really low so my mom went to the hospital and
they were like if you didn't come in today you probably could have died so i was like oh my god
she's fine she's back home and i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh
i just feel so torn up about everybody man i'm torn up about my hate the nurse huh wait what do
you mean well like even when i was at the lake i was like oh fuck like i'm not with charlie it's
like her last days of summer i feel bad about that i feel bad about my mom i gotta go see my mom but
now i have charlie for a week because marty's out of town for a week yeah i don't know why you feel
like that it's actually really frustrating well i don't understand how else to be like these are
people that i have to take care of and i don't know why i don't know why i don't know why i don't
take care of yeah but you're you know what i mean no i really don't i genuinely how are you how are
normal people i i don't know your mind like has like your mind can't be present you're like you're
you're you are the most i say this every fucking pod but it is the sky is always falling down with
you always it's always like it doesn't matter who you're with what good time you're having you're
thinking about the most negative thing on the other side of the planet it's fucking weird and it's like
oh i had a good time on the boat when no you've been fucking cursed it's very it's it's really
unfortunate jay i i properly mean it is like you have properly been cursed something put a curse on
you where you can't relax and have a good time no no no i do have fun i do i swear it's just my mom
i gotta go i gotta go so now i gotta go see if it's not your mom it's charlie who's completely
fine and if it's not charlie it's what who's fucking having the best time in new york i feel bad about
here's what i feel bad about i feel bad that like i don't i can't like take charlie like on vacations
and stuff or i can't have like family vacations because all my money goes to the school that's
what i feel bad about oh no i do i do bro but think about like my friend jeff how could you
feel he takes his family jeff jeff jeff makes oh my god as much money as i make and he takes his
family to like france he's like oh my god we went here we went there that's not normal
dude it is normal vacations i went out with my family huh it's not normal to take family vacations
it is normal dude you're a fucking you are so privileged it's fucking crazy i am people don't
do that people don't do that people don't do that 100 they do we left the state once when i was a
kid and that was fucking crazy we drove to florida because we didn't have tickets for airlines or
money for airlines we drove to florida we drove to florida we drove to florida we drove to florida
that was our biggest family vacation that's it full stop and a lot of kids didn't get to leave
the state that's it and no one and none of our parents were paying for school it was public school
right right right okay the school thing is is fucked i agree and i'm not even comparing your
fucking life and your kids lives to other beverly hills kids who yes are flying on their jets to
fucking mykonos with their families that's not what i'm saying i'm not saying that i want to
i'm talking about like i'm talking about like oh just that that time you can spend nope still
still don't buy it drive drive to santa barbara and
stay in a crappy hotel, stuff like that.
That's all.
I can name you 30 friends.
But I have to work.
I can name you 30 friends that rarely got to see their parents
because all they were doing was working.
You get to see your kids as a divorced dad
more than more fucking parents I've ever seen
that are completely together
because they're busy working four different jobs.
I don't know what you're saying.
I genuinely wish you got a taste of a different life
other than here in Los Angeles
because it's actually kind of crazy how you perceive things.
I don't think it's an L.A. thing.
You're making it an L.A. thing.
It's not an L.A. thing.
Okay, well, whatever it is.
It's about her growing up
and missing out on stuff.
That's all.
No.
Yes.
You're never going to win this argument with me, in my eyes.
You may win it with some of the viewers, listeners, but I don't.
I promise you.
I promise you.
Your father has moments with you.
And I say this in a more complimentative way than I do.
Attack you.
You have done way more for your kids
than, not that you should,
but that any parent would dream to.
And then you still feel like you fall short.
And that's lame.
I don't know the word to describe it,
but it's like you should chill.
You're fine.
You're totally fine.
Your kids are very well aware of how lucky they are.
Sure, sure, sure.
They're lucky.
They're very lucky.
And also,
and I'm not even saying your kids are spoiled,
even though they are.
No.
Your kids don't act like it.
You've somehow spoiled your kids to a crazy amount.
And they're still very humble, regular kids.
You've walked that line perfectly.
I don't think you get it because you're not a dad.
No.
I guess I don't.
I was sitting here at one of your parties.
I saddled up with two comedians.
And they were great.
And I talked to them for a couple hours.
And we were just having the best time.
And then I go,
all right, guys, I got to go.
I'm going to go have dinner with my daughter.
And one of the,
one of the guys who's like 30,
he goes,
he goes,
wow.
He goes,
you're a really good guy, Jason Nash.
Like that.
And I,
and I wanted to say to him like,
oh no, no.
Like this is the only place I want to go
is like have dinner with her.
Do you know what I mean?
Yes.
My point is,
is like,
I don't think people get it.
I didn't get it before I had kids.
Wait, I don't get what you,
so what point are you making?
The point is it's selfish.
It's a selfish move for me to go have dinner with my daughter.
It's purely selfish.
It's like if,
if in fact that night.
I'm not saying that,
that it's not selfish.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
It's selfish.
Oh, I see.
So you see that it is selfish.
No, I see that it's,
I see that it can,
it is selfish because everything's consuming you.
Yeah.
But like,
it's selfish.
Like,
it's like when I like to give to people,
give back to people.
Yes.
Or like I like to surprise my friends with things.
Yes.
That's obviously also very selfish.
Oh, no one thinks of it that way.
Well,
I've always said that.
It's like,
it's like the most selfish.
Yeah, you have to.
It's so selfish
because it's the most exciting feeling
to be able to give back to your friends.
Yeah.
I get that.
But it,
but it still,
it consumes you too much.
It consumes you
to the point where you're like,
I'm not here right now.
I should be here.
Okay, fine, fine.
Let's say you won that argument.
What about my mom?
What do I do with that?
What do you mean?
What do you do with that?
I don't know.
She could fucking die tomorrow
and I'm not there
and I can't fly her out here
because she can't get on a plane.
So what do I do?
Go just like get on a plane?
I don't know.
Just call her as much as you can.
No, that's not the same.
Well, you can't really.
Hey, Dave sat in economy yesterday.
That's,
that's,
that's our pivot.
Dave sat in economy.
I saw you.
I got on that plane
and I was like looking,
obviously I look at everybody in first
to see what assholes are there.
Yeah.
I see Jonah.
I walk by him.
I go,
big fan.
And then.
I walked by him too.
I was like,
how did you get here?
And then I look to the right
and I see David's employee,
Hallie in David's seat.
Yeah.
And I'm like,
what?
Yeah.
And then I go,
and then I go all the way back
about halfway back in the plane
and there's Dave at a window
with his hood on.
And I was,
all I thought was like,
are you fucking,
are you crazy?
Well,
I switched seats with
our employee,
Hallie.
Still better to sit
in the aisle in first.
No,
because I,
I needed a window seat.
Did you sleep?
Of course.
There is,
I don't care that I'm sitting aisle
first class.
Yeah.
Aisle fucking sucks cock.
I'd rather be in 34 fucking C
next to a window
so I could rest my head to the right.
I'm telling you,
I am such a diva
about travel
and things,
but,
but it's not a diva about,
about square footage
and it's just about specifications,
right?
Like I just need my head
to lean to the right.
And that,
and that doesn't mean
what class,
why didn't you buy a neck pillow?
And that doesn't mean
what class I'm in.
It just means that I just want
to be on the right side
of the airplane,
like leaning to the right.
So,
so she had the seat I wanted.
Right.
And she's,
she said she's never been
in first class.
I was like,
oh,
this is a win-win.
Okay,
you take this first class seat.
What'd she say about it?
She was like,
I couldn't go to the right.
She's probably like,
you were right.
I fucking need the window seat
next time.
She probably,
probably had the realization
that aisle sucks
no matter where you are.
All right, guys.
That's all the time
we have for today's pod.
Thank you for joining us.

Summary:
FAQs
The lake house trip was memorable because it included a surprise reunion with old high school friends from Vernon Hills. The group enjoyed activities like wakeboarding, where a former tennis partner, Tucker, performed impressive tricks on his board. The experience also included a heartfelt connection with old friends, especially during the wedding of Jake and Nicole, which reminded everyone of their shared high school memories.
The hosts believe that a yearly high school reunion would be fun and meaningful, as they remember strong bonds formed in high school. However, their friends are hesitant, suggesting a reunion every 10 years due to life commitments and family responsibilities. Still, they acknowledge the emotional value of reconnecting with old peers.
The Aston Martin, valued at $1.2 million, was purchased as a short-term luxury item, not for long-term ownership. The hosts later considered selling it due to financial needs, especially for a new home renovation. They also note that the car's value has increased recently, making it a point of financial consideration.
The lake house was seen as a meaningful retreat after the Chicago trip, offering a peaceful and nostalgic environment. It provided a space for relaxation, socializing, and reconnecting with friends and memories, which outweighed financial concerns for the time being.
The hosts express guilt over not being able to take their family on regular vacations due to financial constraints. They acknowledge that many people take such trips, but they feel it's a personal burden, especially when family members are in need. This leads to emotional tension and self-reflection about their responsibilities.
The hosts believe that food reviews should be positive and respectful, especially for small businesses. They argue that rating food is subjective and can be harmful to a business's livelihood. Instead, they value genuine experiences and enjoy eating at home, emphasizing personal preference over critical judgment.
