David Ruins Dinner

The podcast reflects on the intense, almost obsessive joy of being a devoted fan of the New York Knicks, especially after missing their championship game in person. The host recounts a frustrating evening where he was distracted by the excitement of the event, leading to a failure to enjoy dinner and a sense of personal failure in social presence. He shares how fan culture, particularly around Jalen Brunson, creates a viral, emotional connection that feels almost mythical. The discussion also delves into the absurdity of fan behavior—like time-travel fantasies or alien conspiracy theories—while highlighting the deep emotional investment fans have. The host critiques the transactional nature of friendships in LA, where many people seek connection through proximity to a central figure like David, often ending in romantic or emotional dependency. A lighthearted moment occurs when the host jokingly suggests hiring Brunson to walk through NYC, pointing to how fan culture creates both humor and genuine emotional stakes. The episode closes with a playful nod to fan culture’s influence, emphasizing how fan identities are shaped by shared excitement, community, and sometimes, unintentional absurdity. The host encourages listeners to engage with the new vlog and comments, underscoring the importance of community participation in building shared experiences.

I like the view I like my sitcom is all these podcasters commenting your sitcom you've a sitcom You fuck the show I'm gonna reach across this podcast recording device. I'm gonna strangle you. Hey, have I made my money back on that yet? Not yet pal Guys big news and if you haven't heard the next one the championship in New York City I was bummed I wasn't there. David is the biggest bandwagon next fan of ever seen. Yeah, I'm the biggest. Yeah, I was disgusting, bro First of all I was disgusting. I'd never seen somebody bandwagon that hard bandwagon like that. I meant okay, can I just say something? Yeah, I Don't see anything wrong with bandwagoning at all I think it's got such a negative rap and one thousand percent I was bang bang I've never seen I don't think I've ever seen the next play in my entire life Like on TV on on anything like I don't think I've seen it anywhere. That's a true bandwagon But I was like yeah, I well I became a fan of the next through the through the fans of the next yeah Like just like seeing all the tick-tock videos and stuff like that and then when the game came around I was kind of like fuck should I be in New York? I was kind of like tossing it back and forth and then when the game ended I had like a generational crash out Yeah, like ruined dinner. We were in dinner. Yeah, all I was in my phone all I was doing was texting my New York friends I was texting Georgia, I was texting Olivia, Tanya was there. I was like it's not that fun is it? They're like no, it's actually that fun They're like they couldn't even like they're like you aren't Georgia told me to come earlier She's like you're a complete fucking idiot from missing this. This is once they haven't won over 50 years And it's why I'm such a big bandwagon fan It's because I love when like I just like when people are really excited about things and like the entire city of New York has come together Like there's a funny tick-tock I saw that was like nix and five is cool But like can we do nix and seven because I kind of like hanging out with my friends every day and getting together and having like a common interest And like that's kind of what the way of New York City was on and I think it still will continue to be on like I think the rest of the summer is set to be New York City will have its best summer of all time Yeah, everyone's on high everyone's on high and I would just like kind of bummed I was missing the energy there Which is now making me think like should I buy into a sports team or like should I start supporting the Chicago Bulls early? Yes, I'm telling you we have our nix and five like I'm there. I'm warranted to be there Yeah, you're gonna buy into the bulls yeah, like start posting about them and like wearing bulls hats sure Yeah, so they got to do it for years and years and years. Yeah, cuz like I'll be honest. I'm jealous of Timothy Chalamet He's got an internet footprint of being a nix fan for a really long have you seen how long he's been a nix fan for? Yeah, no like one of the nix players posted something at like Grand Central Station that he was giving away like merch the first person that showed up And like 14-year-old Timothy Chalamet was the first to show up. So like this guy has a proper blueprint of being a nix fan Yeah, so like fuck yeah kudos to him, but what I was most bummed I was like I wanted to go and vlog like the chaos of New York City Like I wanted to put on an orange ski mask and just being the middle of all the chaos I got here Saturday night got the invite over here. I was so happy I really wanted to watch the game and that said you guys were gonna go out for Ferris's birthday. So I was so stoked. I walked in here. I was so happy And then I go I was like man, this this is fun. No this is like that and immediately I say it once I go man This is fun like that. I got Alex sitting next to me. I got Navino my left. Nats here. It was fun. I was excited But it was shut the fuck up, Jay. It's not the fuck. Stop saying it was fun. Nothing's fucking happening. We're sitting on the couch. First of all, first of all, it is fun. Okay, thank you, but you just got there. Yeah, you emotes. What's wrong with emoting and being in a good mood? What are we supposed to do around here? Because you're like convincing yourself that it's fun. I'm not convincing shit. I'm in a good mood. I mean Alex even backed me up Alex was like, okay, so now that you said that Jay, you can't like immediately leave the random part of the night. And guess what? We got to dinner and after I stayed first. What did you guys for six hours? What are you talking about? Okay, first of all, it's not even try to say me leaving the club. Jay, this isn't a punch card type thing. I'm not supposed to be at the club. No, it's not a club. This wasn't a club. This isn't a club. It's a lounge. It's a lounge. It's like you could definitely be there. It's actually there to hook up basically. What? Yeah. It's like the most hanging out spot. I love the spot. I was so grateful. It was 12 o'clock going all the way to anyway after dinner. Yeah, because we went to this place. It's like a dinner. And then you go downstairs and it's like a lounge area. You could smoke there. There's like three sections as a smoking section and they're all equally the same size. You can see section, hang out beer section and then like indoor like where they listen like vinyl record section kind of like they have like a DJ vibe, you whatever. And there's bars in each of the sections. And that's what you go down to it. It's the best club. It's the best place in LA. I think to go. It's called living room. Anyway, so we went downstairs and then Jason comes up to be the second we like look around downstairs, see the vibe, see where we're going to sit. It was the most awkward exchange you and I. Yeah, Jason comes up to me and goes and goes, okay, I think I'm going to go and I go, okay, I'll see you because I thought he was kidding. I thought I thought him and the bean came up to me. Because they were like, this is very new thing to do to be like, let's see if David even wants us here. So I was I was told totally that's what I thought was happening. So I was like right away. I was like, see you later. And then and then Jay goes, all right, bye. And then he's walking away. I'm like, are you fucking serious? I'm like, you're being serious right. We just we just got to the downstairs portion. You're actually fucking leaving. Yeah, it was after 12. Yeah, but it's like 1208. Yes, but it was like, it was just like 12 and the next just one, the vibes were, I know we were, you know, you're not a next fan. I lived in New York. I give a fuck. I could claim the next. I don't give a fuck. I'm a fan of fun and my fun radar. You're a fan of fun. You're fucking ruined dinner. You said he sat at dinner. I wish people. I wish we had a vlog camera on you. He sat at dinner the whole time. I really wish I vlogged it. He sat at dinner. No, you couldn't have vlogged it because I know people wouldn't believe it. You sat there and you were like, God damn it. And even when Ferris, even when we won you go Ferris, I can't go tonight. I can't go out to dinner because I'm not in New York. And then you just kept checking your phone the entire time. I turned my phone off for a little. Yeah, I turned my phone off and then I couldn't do. I turned it back on. Yeah, I was like, I'm going to turn my phone off. I got disconnect. I mean, didn't he didn't he did ruin dinner in a little bit. He stopped about halfway through. He even caught himself and he was like, no, no, no. I was rooting dinner. No, he knew exactly what he was doing. I was like, I'm so sorry. I'm rooting dinner. And I said, no, you're not. But like, I can't help it right now. I have to talk about the next. And that's the thing. And all he kept saying, he's like, how do we get to New York? Do you think there's a flight to New York? I'm like, even if you got on a flight right now, it would be 8 a.m. tomorrow. Everyone's done. It was really scary. Yeah, when you say stuff like that, the inside of my brain like sizzles. Like my whole inside sizzles. I'm like, there's not going to get on a fucking plane. Well, you understand that like if anybody was you won't do that if anybody was close and like anybody has ever been close to like really having the urge to invent a time machine. I may have been the closest there. Well, you said that didn't you? You said you said that and we're like for this moment. There's so many other moments. It's where you could go back to now. I was like, I was like, no, because we were talking about things that like, like, would I let LeBron James fuck me? Yeah. For me to go back in time, three hours. Yeah. And be in New York. And I said, yes. I said, let usually the thing we do is usually what we say is would you let the Lakers run a train on you? That's kind of like that's kind of the basis in our friend group for how bad you want to do something? What? I'm just like, I think this one that one should stay inside the friend group maybe. No, no, no, no. People need to know the fucking weird thing. Imagine a Laker listening like people like you guys. People are disgusting. People have to know how bad like we want certain things. And I didn't go as far as having the Lakers run a train on me. That's our unit of measure. Yeah. Will you will you not but I went to the top player. I went LeBron. I would let LeBron fuck me because I wouldn't want to sit through the whole hour of the Lakers running the truck however long it takes. I wanted to get to New York right away and I was like LeBron can have his way with me just put me in a time machine send me back. Now would I would I help the Lakers run a train on me? Go back to 9/11 and stop the attacks. Yes. For sure. All the Lakers run a train on me. How would you stop the attack? And what would you do? So we get the time when she ran over LeBron runs a train great in her. It's a little bit, but now you got the time machine. You said it for September 10th. And then what do you do when you get there? - That's really good question. - Go. - 'Cause you know why? Wait, how many tries do I get? - Bro, you don't, I don't know. It's September 10th. - It's September 10th. - Can I keep going back to September 10th? - I think the more that you go back, the more other things get fucked up. So you don't wanna keep going back that, like crazy. - Okay, and this is in a situation where there's actually no way of preventing the attacks. There has to be a way, right? This isn't like a movie where I realize at the end. No matter what I do, they always happen. I don't know, I'm talking about it. - No, there's definitely a way. - Yeah, there's definitely a way. Well, my brain immediately would go into like calling it a bomb threat, like the 11th. - Oh, interesting. - And being like, I have explosives in this building. Everyone's going to die. I'm going to kill everybody. I'm shooting this thing up. - Let's get started on the movie. - Like being very dramatic about what's about to happen. But I have heard before that there were things called in that people did call in suspicious, but I feel like that happens a lot in New York. - You mean that it actually happened on September 10th? - Or 11th, and that feels like a thing that's like, that brain call happens a lot. - Right. - And instead of going to the towers, they'd go to the caller and be like, "Yo, you're under arrest." For fucking with New York City. I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. How do you do that? How do you go back in time? - Well, the thing is you've got to get the specific guys. - Oh, and you can't like show people, you can't tell people you're from the future. You can't be like, I have proof, right? 'Cause, yeah, you probably have to go to the flights, I guess. - Yeah, just make a scene. - You have to go to the flights came from different places. - Oh, that's the tricky part. - Or you call in the bomb threats on the airlines, I think. I don't know, it's really tricky. I'd have to go back multiple times, I think. I don't think there isn't us. And then, and then like, let's say I stop all the flights. - Yeah. - I'm not a big 9/11, I am a big 9/11, I'm a conspiracy. But like, were there explosives in the building? Are those buildings coming down no matter what? So then I have to now have to worry about that. So now I have to, yeah, so there's a lot. Anyway, Nixon 5, I like that. (laughs) - The craziest part about the next thing is, which I think is even crazier than your bandwagoning, is that Jalen Brunson is from our suburb. Like we know people that are-- - Oh yeah, so I went to like, go look, Jalen Brunson's ZMP. - Yes. - First of all, this is another thing that was like, for some reason hurting my brain. - Yeah. - I was like, this Jalen Brunson guy, ZMP of the Nix, like the guy, the God. And what got me into, what got me into the Nix, in the first place was everyone, all the edits on TikTok of people going, "Jalen Brunson, you can fuck my wife!" Like it's like everybody just like, like giving him the keys to the city. - Giving him the King of New York now. - Like, the King of New York. And that's where I was like having a hard time after my head around, I was like, I need to, I emailed my friend, or I texted my friend, that works at Metta, at Instagram. And I was like, I was like, hire Jalen Brunson, give him $15 million, put Metta glasses on him, and have him walk down the streets of New York. I just want to see his point of view of what it feels like to be the King of the biggest city in all of the world. - And what'd your friend from Metta say? - He said it was genius. (laughing) But like, I think that would be so fun to like watch this man walk, 'cause, 'cause all the comments are like, he's never paying for a meal in New York City again. - I mean, it'd be a sick ad. - For sure, he's never paying for a meal in New York City again. But what else is he getting in New York? What is happening to this man in New York City? - I guess that's what was driving you crazy that night. You're like, where's he going? What's he doing? And we were like, well, he's probably just getting on the plane and saying, Tony, I'm going, right, I think Nets had that. She's like, yeah, they're just going to get on the plane. They're not going to party in San Antonio. - David's like, but no, what's going to happen in New York when he gets there? What kind of club act is we have? (laughing) How many girls do you think of themselves? Where do I need to know? - And I was like, he's happily married. And I'm like, okay, I get that. I get that. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know. But like, I just got so much of the nick, like it's like Ben Stiller was being interviewed. Spike Jones, Lee, Spike Lee. Sorry, Spike Lee was being interviewed. And he was like, and the interviewer was like, would you never win an Oscar again or the Nicks win? Or would you give up blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And every time he was like, Nicks winning, Nicks winning. It's like, these people have such a passion about the Nicks that it just, it's infatuating in-- - Spiring? - No, what's it when it's like kind of, when it's like a-- - And now David will try to find the word. (laughing) In-- - Come back, please. - Influential, infiltrating. - In-- - There is steam coming out of us. - Oh, what's like when like a virus gets you? - Infectious. - Infectious. - Yeah, I got it. That's the time. (laughing) - It's infectious, yeah. So like, shout out to the Nicks. Shout out to the fan base. But yes, okay, so I went to go look up the MVP, Jim and Brunson on Instagram and I was like, I wonder like, which one of our friends from LA follows him? And like, whatever, three LA friends. But like, 15 friends, he follows from our hometown. - Yeah. - And it's 'cause he lived-- - And not you? - Five minutes away. - Yeah, and the next story. - Yeah. - Yeah, not me. - You got to get that follow. You got to say, hey, dog, I'm from two towns over. - No, I can't actually like-- - Not sure your name. - I can't interact with him. - Why not? - 'Cause I'm such a trute. Like a bandwagoner's got to know his place, right? Like, I can't, I can't, I can't infiltrate the team right now. I'm very happy to be like this fake, not fake. I'm really actually a big fan now. - Sure, yeah. - But like from, I've ordered Nicks merch, by the way. - Shout the fuck out. - No, you have it. - No, you have it. - Yes, I've got to have. - No, you fucking didn't. - Oh my god. I'm gonna show you this podcast next season. When the Nicks are like, they make the playoffs and they get eliminated in the second round and see what you say. - I'm gonna come in one day, I'm gonna go. - Man, did you see what happened last night? And you're gonna go, what? And I'll go, the Nicks got eliminated. You're gonna go, oh girl. (laughing) - No, but Jay, I'm not a fan for that. I'm a fan. - Your first cultural moment. - I'm a fan of what just happened. - Okay, that's fair. I am genuinely a fan for the concept of being a bandwagon fan. Like, I'm fully aware of my privilege as a bandwagon fan. - He said the funniest thing in the car. We were driving down to the place, the restaurant. And you go, you were saying that you were like, go to DM Jaylen Brunson and be like, hey, where are you going? What did you say? - Yeah, I was just like, I'm getting on the plane. Let me know where the party is. - I wanted to DM him as like a delusional influence. - Yeah. - Hey, I'm leaving for my lay and I think, I think by the time you get out of the locker room and shower and everything, we'll land in New York at the same time. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Yeah, I don't know. Jaylen Brunson, if you ever listen to this. - Congrats. - Congrats, I'd love you. And for you since about Monday. (laughing) And genuinely, as like, as not endearing as it sounds, I am truly the biggest fan of the next. I'm super happy for you guys. It's so crying. - What this meant for me last Wednesday? - Oh, I owe John some money. - What happened? - 'Cause I last podcast I was like. - Oh yeah, yeah. - And I was like, there won't be rioting. - Was it as bad as I thought? I did see a bus on fire. - Yeah, but just one. - Now I was like four of 'em. But can I, but those school buses in the middle of Times Square, maybe they parked there like normally? I don't know, maybe that's like a thing to put. But it almost seemed like they were put there for a reason. - Oh, yeah. - Like it almost felt like they were like magnets for the chaos. - Maybe. - And it was just to like, like, hey guys, destroy this bus. Don't touch the buildings. - I wonder if they put the bus there just to block. You know, sometimes when you have like a street fare or something, you put the big truck there to block. So I mean, nobody goes and runs their car through it and kills people. - Yeah, it could be it. I don't, maybe. I genuinely, it looked like they were just scattered around the city, be like, hey, blow up the school buses. - Hey, you think that theory too, like when there's like a protest and stuff the day before they put out bricks. - Oh, so people can throw stuff? - Yeah. - Yeah, yeah, I have seen that. - You've seen that, right? The protest is just pre-emptive protesting, right? Like just getting ready for the next day. - But I don't think the protestors are putting out the bricks. - Oh, I'll tell you what I thought of. This is, sorry, not to get into aliens. - No, no. - What? - Not again. - I mean, I've just been giving it some more thought and I'm kind of, oh, also somebody, somebody DM me this. I think it's really funny about John. They said, was listening to your podcast? First time I'm sending a message like this, but seriously, I'm baffled. You're so into aliens, but can't seem to notice there was one right in front of you. Its name is John and has severe calibration issues. Seems like a friendly one though. It's really funny. No, but I was thinking about it and like, okay. So the big conspiracy theory is that all this information, oh, I watched the movie, too, the Steven Spielberg movie. - Yeah. - Well, disclosure day. Should I talk about that? - Yeah. - Anyway, let me say this. There's the big conspiracy theory about all this alien information coming out right now is that it's all a cover-up to get you away from the Epstein files, whatever. I don't like that kind of conspiracy talk 'cause I like my aliens to be just like, not related to Epstein. I'd like to separate those two. - Yeah. - But, but think about it, it's like the one guy that would have any information on aliens and would actually love to talk about them. - Yeah. - And who's denied them the most, in my opinion, is Elon Musk. - Oh. - This guy is the close, he was doing an interview like a couple months ago and he was like, we have like 9,900 satellites up whatever, for SpaceX and there has never been a moment where we've had to pivot or picked up an alien signal or had it avoid an alien spacecraft. - That's really interesting. - Yeah. And it's like, Elon Musk is saying that he, and then he doubles on, he goes, I think it's also fair for us to think, to have to try to accept the fact that we may be alone in this universe and it's our job to expand. - Yeah. which is fucking kind of crazy. Like that is like, if he is so like, why would he be on the other side of it? I don't get it, I don't get it, I don't get it, I don't get it. It's really, wouldn't he be out of, especially out of all the like, eccentric characters. And Elon Musk is like the most like out there wacky guy. He would be like, I don't think that at a real, I don't think this is it, but maybe, maybe there's like a bottom line there for him in SpaceX and if there are aliens and that's gonna stop his businesses and his expansion of the universe. - Do you think that he, that was my other argument? That was before I saw his interviews, I was like, if there were aliens, wouldn't he like have adopted some of their technology or something, wouldn't he be making a little bit like- - Making a little coin on it? - No, wouldn't he be like moving a little bit faster through all this SpaceX shit? I don't know, not that he's like, stewing a slow job, I'm just saying like, wouldn't we be like- - Would he have access to whatever technology aliens have? - I don't know, I'm a little suspicious. Anyway, I watched this closure today. - Yeah. - I don't know, I don't know how to say it. I don't like knocking people's movies. I don't, I never do it. - It wasn't what you expected. - It wasn't what I expected. - Okay. - Well, that's good. - We can correct him. - You told us Spielberg was gonna be revealing the existence of aliens confirming it. There was, without a doubt, he was confirming aliens. - Okay, was he not- - He was the message, yeah, that's a good word. - Now that you bring that up, it's giving me the need to defend myself and my thoughts. And yes, I thought Spielberg was in his own trailer talking about how this is real. Okay, so I was like, what's going on? And I didn't have to connect too many dots. It was a very low IQ move to be like, oh yeah, I think he's gonna confirm aliens. Like, that's where I thought he was going. Okay, first, let me give credit to all the filmmakers and everybody that worked on that movie, it's really hard at this I'm doing the soups approach. This is, it's really hard to make a movie. And congratulations- - The worst thing you want to hear. - Congratulations to all those people that I have made- - What I heard after Jason Metz is married. - Steven Spielberg, yeah, Steven Spielberg is a legend, made some of the greatest movies of all time that will never be taken away from him. This movie was impossible for me to watch. I couldn't, I couldn't believe it. But two sentences, what happens in the movie? - It's exactly what you think. - Aliens come to Earth? - Sorry, is it all scripted? Obviously, right, it's not like there's something like that. - There's nothing real. And like, and also it's like, it's- - They thought there was gonna be real aliens in it. - No, I thought, 'cause I kept hearing that the third part of the movie, like the third, what is it called? Not trimester, third truck. - Correct, yeah. - Yeah, the third hack, there they are. - Is it going to be trimester? - The third hack, I'm such an idiot. I'm talking about this fucking dumb. I'm over here like, oh yeah, this wasn't Spielberg's best. I'm calling you a trimester. I was told that the third act wasn't any of the trailers and stuff like that. And I was expecting like a fun little twist at the end or something like that, but it was exactly what you would expect the movie to be if you didn't put any thought into it. It almost, what it made me think is, I don't think Steven Spielberg has TikTok or any form of social media. - Right. - Because what the movie is, this movie would have been, oh, good, 25 years ago. But what's happening in the movie? It's like, yeah, dude, have you been seeing TikTok? It's like, it's behind. - It's like when Clint Eastwood makes a movie. - It's so behind, I'm like, yeah, duh. - Yeah, I find that. - And there's like, try to do stuff. - And there's like a message in it that's like about empathy, but it's so not hidden, it's like spoon fed to you. You gotta watch it. It's very interesting. I will also go as far, and this white, this has, has me come, now I'm a conspiracy theorist for all this alien ship being a cover-up for the Epstein Files. - Yeah. - Because I'm going as far as Steven Spielberg got the fattest bag of his life to make this movie. Something happened. - He gets a fat bag every time. - Yeah. - I know, but something, no, like he got paid from the government. I'm talking a billion dollars cash into his account for this film, something, because it's not adding up. It's not Spielberg-ing. I'm very confused. - I see. - I was very confused walking out of it. - Like the government wanted to send a certain message so they hired Spielberg. - No, not even a certain message. It's like they wanted to like add words into the stratosphere, into Google, into disc, they wanted to put disclosure to, they just wanted like, amp up the whole alien talk. I have no idea. I'm really, really confused. I would love to hear our views, podcast listeners' opinion on this movie. I was shocked. - I heard their opinion on an episode last week that some funny comments that I read. - Oh yeah, when you said about Toy Story? - People were mad that I was bagging on Toy Story and someone left the funniest comment. I keep it with the guy I made. Jason Nash is married. Shining on Toy Story. (laughing) Which is, I was like, that was good. But I don't, I was only mad about Toy Story 'cause like, it's not, I wanted to, I would like, 'cause David didn't invite me to go see it. And it's not something I wanted. - Oh wow, so you took it out on Toy Story? - Yeah, I took it out. - One of the best franchises of all time. - Yeah, so that's really, I really searched myself and I thought, I was talking to Naveen about it. I was like, oh, that's why I was mad. So, there you go. - Because of David. - Oh, and then also the comments on the Monaco episode. We're funny, like they were saying, like these guys are so out of touch, you know, whatever. - Yeah. - And then. - Well, people said that. - Yeah, somebody, that was like top comment, but you had a lot of people defending you, which was even funnier, 'cause someone wrote, someone wrote like, they're like, they're like, they're like, yo, dude, I go to a nine to five job. Like, I don't want to fucking sit here and have you talk about being in Monaco, you know? But then someone else goes, like, what the fuck do you want him to do? - You talk about the nine to five jobs? - Yeah, yeah, like, with all due respect, I would not want to hear about your fucking boring nine to five jobs. I thought it was really funny. But yeah, people are amped up in the comments, which is good. - That's really funny. That's really funny. - The comment section does really like pop off. - Did you guys hear about the only fan's house in Encino? - No. - That is causing trouble. - Wait, wait, wait, wait. There's a house in Encino that's causing trouble? - Yes. - Why? - Yeah, being came to me yesterday, she goes, it's on the news. It's basically all these people who own like, nice houses in Encino are like, what's this only fan's house doing here? They're shooting content. And David, I say that you and I need to go over there and see what's going on. - You think your wife would be okay with this? - I think we'll bring her. - No, yeah, we'll bring her. We'll bring her. - Okay, you mean this, and like. - David, this is about helping the people. I'm on the only fan's side, you know. - What do you think? - Well, what are they doing? Are they fucking fingering each other? - I mean, they're saying that they found condoms on the street, and stuff like that. But you find condoms outside my house too, and you know what I mean? - It's on the street in Encino. - They're shooting content, making people uncomfortable in the street or whatever. - I think it's bullshit. - I don't know. I'm like, I'm trying to put myself in the perspective of like when I become that kind of a neighbor. - Mm. - When you cross the threshold of. - Yeah, like a Karen. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - You'll be a crazy Karen. - I think so too, so I have to see it. - You'll be the craziest Karen. - Actually, I don't know if you will. You'll probably be like, if there was a bunch of kids and you were like 60 years old, they were causing trouble. Are you gonna say something? - No, it's really, but he would send somebody else to say something. - It's really tough. - I don't know. I don't know. 'Cause I could see myself, I could see myself having an ego about it and being like, I fucking, I did this shit 40 years ago, I tried moving away from this. You're not bringing this to my neighborhood. Do you know what I mean? - Yeah. - I pay taxes here. - Like from kids, like I could see that happening. - I could tell you as somebody who's gotten older, that Karenness creeps inside of you. - No, you get pissed off at little things. Someone will like, someone parked their car in front of my house for like two weeks, and I don't know who it is, and I'm basically calling it to get to. - Somebody parked a car in front of our neighbor's house and he texted Taylor and he's like, who's ever car this is? And the next time I see him, I'm gonna slash all four tires. - Wow. - And we're like, it's none of our cars. Like God, it wasn't our car. But our neighbors are really hot. Our neighbors are actually really, really nice to us. - Yeah. - They fucking hate outsiders, but they're very like, it's really, it's a very like, interesting like, it's like we're in the community. But then when we have people over, it's like, - Well, it's a very bad. - They're not even mad at us. It's weird, they like, mad at the people. I'm like, you know what is my fault? Like I invited all the, like all these people in my house. It's very strange how that, it's very sweet. - They can't be mad at you, 'cause you're rich. - 'Cause I'm there forever. Oh, okay, yeah, I guess that too. Just these people that are here, man, not you. - You know my lack of going to fun things has really hit hard recently. The World Cup, I've like, it has not been on my radar at all. - Yeah, I'm kind of surprised. - Which is really funny, 'cause like, as much as I love being a bandwagon fan, people are like hitting me up about like, are you going to the World Cup or gonna work up? I'm like, no, I don't know anything about soccer. And like all our friends are at the World Cup. And I, every time I see someone at it, like I get a fear of soccer fan, 100% be there. But I'm like, I just can't, this is my Karen kicking in. I'm like, traffic, scanning your ticket, finding your seats, going to pee. Like, it's just, that's where I'm at. - Yes, I was out in some World Cup traffic. I down at the pier the other night. It's brutal. I don't know why I think like that now. I'm like, that is like so much work. And there's nothing better than watching the game at home. You're trying on your TV, right? - No, no, no. - I think depending on the match, like if you care about the team playing or if it's your country, it's like-- - If like Slovakia was on some magical run or something, for sure. - Let me say, though, being there, then now comes, here comes my inner character. - Yeah, go home. - Being there, parking the car, like my friend Jeff, he wants to go take his, the dodgers are playing. - Yes. - Right, and then he was like-- - His daughters are playing in the world. - The Dodgers are playing, he loves the Dodgers. So it's like, but it's gonna cost him like, 1,200 bucks for nosebleed seeds for four people. It's like, no. - Oh. I mean, I-- - Natalie's, I bring this up 'cause Natalie's on the opposite side of it. Like, Natalie loves that shit. - I love it. I'm dying to go to a World Cup game. - I just wish I had that energy. Like to me, like, like-- - I just, like, I pay for it with health. Yeah, like, that's how I do it. Like, it's like, that is costing me health points. Like, my HP is going down when I go to this thing. - But I've never experienced, I've never been to a World Cup game and it's in our city. Like, when are you gonna have that opportunity again? - We should be more like Natalie. - 100%. - We really should. - We should be like, five in like Natalie. - 100% we should. - You know, I saw Natalie in the wild the other day. - Where? - Yeah. - You ran into her? - It was like seeing a teacher out of school. - Yeah, for sure. - I mean, it was crazy Dave. - It was crazy. - Wait, where was it? - I'm on, I'm in the heart of our town that we live in. - Yeah. - And I'm just sitting there staring at the wall, waiting for a smoothie. - He's sitting outside like on a sidewalk, like patio table by himself. - Oh, by airing. - Nope. - We'll go over by Giata. - Oh, okay. - So I'm over there. And I'm in a conversation, I'm trying to close a restaurant 'cause you know what, I try to get restaurants on this app. And so I finally, - Do you have like a lot of side, like-- - I'm trying, man. - I got to see your situation. - You're getting-- - There's an app called In Kind. - Yes, yes, you know, I know it. - Okay, and I work for them. - You look flugging, you're for five years. - And if you get a restaurant on the app, you get like a payday. - Yeah. - Have you gone one? - No. - But-- - Yeah, that's what you were doing? You were trying to get the-- - No, no, no, like, I'm always there. And I've been trying to talk to this woman for a couple of times, but she's always on the phone. - Okay. - And so finally, she wasn't on the phone, and I was like, Karen, blah, blah, blah. And so I was like pitching on In Kind, and then all of a sudden, like, and Natalie and I were just a trick, I'm like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And that has this look on her face, like, she's been in prison for the last six years. It was such a weird look. She was like, she's like looking around. - She's wide eyed. - But it's just the normal street. It's the street that you've been to a million times. The street, I mean-- - It's just like she got to leave the house. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - 'Cause I did. - Yeah, that was-- - Oh, what's this, huh? And even gave me, like, a big, a big hello, which doesn't usually have her on you. Yeah, she was like, Jason, she whips out her snapchat. She's like, look who we bumped into. (laughing) And I'm in the middle of this, like, this is, you know, I'm trying to close this deal. And then, and then it, you know, she went away, and then I was like, what's up, guys? - It was wild. - Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Sorry, back to this deal thing, what's the percentage you make? Like, do you make money off every time someone goes to the restaurant? - No, you make money off of whatever, whatever the company borrows, you get a percentage. - Or just how much do you make? - Let's say, let's say Diorberg's borrow is $100,000. - Okay. - Of capital. - Yeah. - Then I'd get $5,000. - Oh, nice. - So is that a percent? - Yeah. - Wow. - Something like that. - How much are you trying to pitch wrong, like how much are you trying to get her to? - Well, whatever they would want to borrow, like, I don't do that. I don't go that, I don't go that into the way. - But have you been going like, restaurant or restaurant or is this just this one 'cause you were like frequent to it? - I tried going restaurant to restaurant, got my ass handed to me. - Really? - Like big time. - Wait, what happened? - Like, they printed me business cards. It was so embarrassing. Like, I realized I had no, I have no sales skills. - You know what I'm saying? - No. Like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, at all. So I'd like, walk into a restaurant. - Wait, this is so funny. - And the guys literally just like, get out. Like, I walked into an Indian restaurant and he was like, no, no, leave. Leave now, leave. And I'd be like, oh my god. And I'd walk back to the car and be like, how'd it go? And I'd be like, no, it's, it's just not my, it's not my thing. I have no sales skills. I have none. Like, you'd be better at it than me, for sure. - I would hope. - Yeah, well, I mean, I don't know. - Let's see, let's see you in action. Let's see, let's see. - It's a pretty good sales, man. - Yeah, you're like pretty panic, you work. I just don't like hyping things up that I'm selling. That's all. - It is tough. It's tough, I mean, how do you get? The one thing that I think is good is, is trying. - I can't ever imagine you doing that. - Yeah, it's not my forte. - I feel like you're like a nervous talker. - I am. - Yeah. - You're like a, you're a nervous conversationalist, but not a nervous performer. - Right, right, right. - It's very interesting. - Oh yeah, because you will do just like, I don't know if you saw Jason posted like a real or a tech talker or something and you were at the pier. And you got like a bunch of kids who I'm assuming you just asked in that moment. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - You got people to be in the tech talk or reacting to you. - The Seaky guide? - No, I think it was like the betting game lengthening. - Oh, oh, yeah. - You're laying on the floor of the Santa Monica pier. - How do you not remember the embarrassing video? You filmed that the Santa Monica pier in the last week. - The movie was pretty embarrassing, you know what I'm saying? - What was it gay pride, like promoting Seaky. - Oh yeah, but this was different. You were on the floor of the Santa Monica pier. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Looking like you just got hit by a roller coaster. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, you gotta get the bit, man. - Yeah, so like, oh, you're right now. It was pretty embarrassing. - But it's funny that you put yourself out in that way, but then, oh yeah, it's like you struggle. - Because I think it just like starts, it's Jason's biggest downfall. And this says, this is all my years of working with him. I know this for a fact. It's overthinking. It's the second he has any kind of prep. It's the second a conversation is slow. And there's like, and there's like, he's in something. That's when he starts the panic. But when it's like off the cuff, going for it, like just in the middle of it, like, time to run, time to do it, that's when he's the best. But it's the second he gets a moment to like, and I think that's what a conversation is, is like, it's like too slow for him to operate at a level without fear. Like he just starts to get in his head. It's really interesting. - He said that I do this thing where I'll be in a, start with a, let's say I'm at a party at your house and I'm standing in a circle, and I'll say, I don't have anything to say, like that. And people will be like, okay. - Why did you say that? - No, like I feel like if we were in the car on our way to like, saddle ranch right now, like to go get drinks or something. And I pulled over, out front of that Indian restaurant, you got kicked out of, and I was like, go inside there and tell him to sign up for my app. I feel like you'd crush it. - Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. - Because it'd just be like a spur of the moment and you'd be like, yeah, I'm just gonna, I'm gonna treat this as like a bit. - Yeah. - But I think it's like when you go into things with like, thought, for some reason, you panic. - Yeah, and this is also very hard to explain to people whatever, but yeah, so we can move off this topic, but this is a-- - She's like, I'm embarrassed. No, no, I mean that all is a compliment to you. - No, I know, I know. - 'Cause like, you are just so good off the cuff. - Do you ever think, guy? - Are you trying to change the subject? - Well, you keep talking about it. - No, no, go, go, go, go. - Do you ever think a gay guy's hitting on you, but you got it so wrong? It happened in the other day. - No, and why, what happened? - I was out doing that sea kick promo, and this guy was helping me with the video to be in the video, and then after, he was like, so, can we get tickets sometime? Like that. And I was, he's like, can you take me to a concert sometime? And I was like, oh yeah, maybe, I don't know what to say. So then we see him like 10 minutes later, and he comes up to me and he's like, he's like, so? He's like, where are my tickets? Like that. And so I go, I go, I go, oh man, I'm married. - I don't go. - Like that? - Then he goes, he goes, I don't wanna go with you. It's like, I'm not interested in you. - That's so bold of you to say that. - And I was like, I don't know, I didn't know what he meant. So then he was like, then he was like, I just want tickets. And I was like, well, I can't really, like I kind of have to go with you to, 'cause I have to like make videos if I do get free tickets and blah, blah, blah. And then he was just like, and he just walked away, and it was like really awkward. - Damn. I, I, I, you ever done that? Have you ever assumed, I mean, you're a girl, so I feel like you guys do that all the time. I have a boyfriend, or I'm so sorry, I just, - Oh yeah, I do that all the time. - People like approach you in the wild, or are they like? - Somebody to approach me, it's actually funny story. There was someone approached me in Monaco that I was like, talking with for a little bit, like for a couple days after Monaco. - Wait, wait, oh, okay, you met him in Monaco. - I met him in Monaco. He came up to me and was like, so into me, doing all the things, whatever. And he was hilarious, we're having a good time. And then we get back, we're still texting. - I'd love to see what hilarious. - Yeah, me too. - Wait, he was so funny. - Like what are the things that, I'm sure he was funny, but what are the things that he's saying? - When she said that, I was hung up on that too. - He reminded me of this famous comedic, comedian character. - Okay. - I wanna say, I don't, no, I think it's like Napoleon Dynamite. - Okay. - Like he kind of talked like that, but like she kind of really, I don't know, on a funny way, it was the way that it was like-- - Wait, did I meet him? - Well, let me get to that. 'Cause yes, you did. - And it's not the best person to say that you're, is it a guy on you? But go ahead. - Oh, that way. - He didn't look like that, but like the way that he spoke was like, it was Napoleon Dynamite and like somebody else and I forget who it is, who the comedic actor is. But once I, I don't know. But his delivery and the way that he articulated, and he just like was saying shit. - Yeah. - And it was just so funny. - So what happened? - And so then, whatever. So then, leave Monaco, whatever. I'm texting him the past like week or so. And we're texting and he just, in our middle of our conversation, he just like sends a picture of him and David from the party, like a selfie, like a fan selfie. David's like doing his classic like peace sign fan pose. And, and I just got like the biggest dick. 'Cause the whole conversation he was portraying like, or he was acting like he had no idea like who I was. Definitely didn't know who you were, didn't know what I did. Like anything like that. and but he has a fan like selfie with David at the party. I was like, oh, do you know him? 'Cause I was talking about you. He was like, what do you do? And I'm talking about you. Like this man has no idea who he fucking are. And-- - No, no, no, no, show me, show me, show me. There is a guy that does, that there is a guy at that monochrome thing that didn't know who I was. And he came up to me and he's like, why is it I'm talking to all these girls? - No, he didn't have an excuse. - And I'm doing a fake accent. And he's all of a sudden you walk in and all the girls are now looking at you. - This guy. - He was like, right when we walked on the belt, I think he took this picture. We were on the boat for like, less than five minutes. - No, this isn't for guy. I'm about to close. Oh. - I got girls to my left, girls to my right. - But the context I'm sending this photo, like out of nowhere in the middle of the conversation, he sent a photo with you and I was like-- - Natalie goes, wait, do you know each other? - Yeah, 'cause I'm pissed now. I'm like, you just fucking lied to me this whole time. Like you're just-- - Maybe this is-- - No, we met that night, ha ha. Oh, how funny, I didn't really-- I don't know, maybe we don't know each other. That's Natalie's biggest fear. - What? - I fucking hate that, 'cause everybody uses me for David, and I fully accept that. - Sure. - Whatever, so I have amazing perks being your friend, so I have also, there's the cons of, for everybody to use me. - They're not mutually exclusive. - He could like, he could really like David's content and think and be into you. - No, I know. Yeah, no, I know. I got, that's the process. That's what I have to keep telling myself, so that I have friends, and eventually have a relationship. - I found this about Natalie a day, like when Natalie, we were talking about like your girlfriends. - Yeah, yeah. - What is it? - Well, like I would say 90% of my girlfriends, use, they're not using me, like obviously I'm-- - Jesus Christ, that's a crazy number. - A lot, I mean, not like-- - Not current. - Not current, but like-- - 90% of the women that I meet in general, I would say are just, and they meet me, and they are so excited to like be in my orbit, or whatever, at least if they make it feel that way. But it is always eventually ends, like all roads lead to David, they want to kiss David, they want to fuck David, they want to meet David, they want to meet David, they want to meet something, they want to meet something. And whatever, and I like to play along because I have a good girlfriend for like a month or whatever, then I get to hang out with them, we have a good time. - That's kind of sad. - But then they end up just-- - Yeah, no, Natalie spainted to me the other day, and I was like, oh wow, it's kind of whack. - It's kind of whack. - Yeah, no, I found that, yeah, a lot. (laughs) - It's really depressing. (laughs) - But at least I have you guys, you know? - No, there was, okay, so there was a year ago, I hooked up with this girl, that was like our friend. - Yeah. - And I remember this, like, I'll never forget this, and I was just like, blah, blah, we hooked up, blah. And I'm like, why aren't you curious about like what happened? I was like so mad, I was like, I was like, when you look up with people, I'm asking you a million questions, like that's all I want to know. And like, Ilya would be so interested in this, and it seems like you don't even want to hear about this, like at all. Like, it's like a friend. And then she goes, I just don't like the idea that she's been my friend trying to get to you this entire time. - Yeah. - And it like, it grosses me out that like, she was just here just to hook up with you. - Yeah, because they really like-- - And I was like, whoa, that's kind of fucking crazy. - Yeah. (laughing) - So, is it? - Is it? - Yeah, so yeah, that was pretty crazy. - Yeah, well now, yeah, so now, you know. - Damn, they don't have new friends. - No, I have friends, but I would say that, and I think it's also like a byproduct of where we live, and like what we do, and the people that like, places that we're putting ourselves, but yeah, a lot of it, LA is a very transactional, you know, like a lot of the people that I interact with, I would consider good friends, but I also know that there is a reason why they want to be my friend, most of the time. Yeah, I have a couple good friends, but yeah, no. - That's many friends. - I don't have any friends, like now, when you invited me to come over Saturday night, you should have seen me. I was off the wall. I was like, oh my god! - So, why did you say really you fucking asshole? - Maybe you would have more friends if you stuck around. - Well, I can say, out of the row, it's fine. - I'm fucking 85. - I can't be up to five. - I was up at 5.30. - I wake up at 5.30, I wake up at 5.30. - I wake up at 5.30, I'm like this. Huh! - And I try to go back to sleep, I can't. - Okay, if you said you had to be up at 5.30, I'm gonna be like, okay, I get it. - No, I don't have to be, I just get up at 5. 'Cause that's what happens to old people. But no, I know, and I really wanted to stay. I really wanted to, and if he was like, why? Why do you want to stay? And I was like, because I want to like, I want to like be there for everybody, and be friends with them. And, but it's so hard, it's so late. - It's 12 or 5. (all laughing) - We had a whole coma on the way home. But yes, I feel like I don't have friends, like, I. - I texted Jay, 'cause I was like, - Oh, that's so funny. - I texted Jay, 'cause I was, well first of all, I was like, where is he? Is he still in the club? - Yeah, and I was like, yeah. - So I texted his location. He was already back at my house. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Like picking up his car like 19 minutes away. And then I texted him, I was like, wait, what did I text you? Let me see. I was trying to get him, I was, I wasn't even trying to be funny, it was actually trying to get him to be like, bum that he left. I texted him, come to main room, Dave Chappelle here. - Oh yeah. - Jason texted me back. Just, he goes, haha, just got to your house. Jalen Brunson is in their private picture. (all laughing) - He didn't have me for like, three seconds. For three seconds, I was like, Chappelle? (all laughing) It was a very, it's a very, very Dave Chappelle type spot. I could see him, I could see him actually. - I could see him there. But, all right guys, listen, that is all the time we have for today's pod. FAQs

The host believes bandwagoning—deeply embracing a shared passion like a sports team—is a fun, energetic, and authentic experience that brings people together, even if it's seen as overly enthusiastic or irrational.

He wanted to experience the excitement and energy of fans gathering in New York, but instead felt the event was dull and uneventful, especially when he was surrounded by friends who were emotionally invested and excited.

He notes that Jalen Brunson, who lives nearby, is a huge fan of the Knicks, and the fanbase's passion is so intense it's described as 'infectious' and almost like a cultural phenomenon.

He jokingly imagines using a time machine to go back to New York during the game, emphasizing how much he wants to experience the fan energy, though he acknowledges it's a ridiculous scenario.

He finds it odd that Elon Musk, known for his eccentricity, denies the existence of alien contact, especially when he has a massive space program, suggesting a possible conflict of interest.

He finds the movie's plot to be predictable and outdated, and questions whether the film's alien themes are a cover-up for other events, like the Epstein files, rather than a genuine exploration of extraterrestrial life.
