The transcript is a podcast episode featuring guest Dave Franco, hosted by Bobby Lee and others, blending casual banter with discussions about pop culture, careers, and personal stories. It begins with an ad for Firework Freeze energy shots, then transitions to the main conversation. Dave and Bobby bond over owning the same car model, with Dave revealing he totaled and repaired it. The group plays a trivia game about X-Men characters, showcasing generational differences in pop culture knowledge. Dave shares details about his new girlfriend, who lacks familiarity with mainstream media but practices witchcraft, including manifestation and love spells; Bobby jokes about putting names in his freezer to "cool off" conflicts, later admitting he embellished this story for humor. Bobby recounts going to malls to be recognized and obsessively monitoring a line at Olive Young, a Korean cosmetics store, which he also admits was exaggerated. The conversation shifts to Dave’s career, discussing his film "Together," a $3 million horror movie co-starring his wife, and his transition into producing and directing to maintain creative control. They exchange horror movie recommendations, with both recommending films like "Raw" and "I Saw the Devil." Dave promotes his upcoming animated film "Forgotten Island," a Filipino-themed project, and the episode ends with more banter about films, including "Martyrs" and "The Furious," highlighting their shared love for cinema and genre movies.

Oh, you think that you're your fame with comics and leave. I have no fame. Don't. Bobby, you're not. You're not. You're not the one coming out. [MUSIC PLAYING] [INAUDIBLE] [INAUDIBLE] You don't have to be thunder. You don't have to be thunder. [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGHTER] It's a good to hide to the hell. I'm like how Bobby stopped it in the video. And he did a-- don't be surprised. Backful. You do what it needs. Yeah, dude, that's fucking respectful, dude. Yeah, yeah. It's a surrender. That's how I surrender. Were you in a black car behind me? I think so. I didn't want to block you in, though, so I parked on the street. No, I just want to say Bobby wants a ton of time. Had that exact car and he lasted one month before he totaled it. Oh, interesting. Audi S5. Yeah, I still have it. Oh, you were? And that's being very, very rude. I was worried. I think you're listening. Isn't it a junkyard? No, it's not a junkyard. What's your version of the trashing of the car? Honestly, I'm not sure. I just know-- you never know with Bobby. There's always some weird incident. And he's giving you a half story. OK. But he's claiming he still has it? He says he got it. What if I'm claiming I have a date? There's a date? I have it. There's clearly some very different stories. Yeah, where is it? In a garage. Who's garage? In a garage. Because I'm going to repeat it when I say certain words. A garage. A garage. Oh, it's a garage. All right, yeah, yeah. So I have a garage. Yeah. You know, it's the same place where I have all my toys. Where are toys? I have vintage toys. I used to collect. Do you remember that? The storage facility I got for you. It's not a garage. Real quick. Real quick. Did you ever total this car? They said it. Oh, you did. Yes, I did. But now you still-- I fixed it. Everything is 100% fixed. Yeah. Matt, it's still-- I'm just not sure it's in the same place as your vintage toys and shoes. I know where those are. Whatever. OK. Yeah, whatever. You know, here's the main thing I want to say is that Dave Franco and I have the same case. There we go. There we go. And that's where-- you know, you try to take that away from us. No, I brought it up. I brought it up. I brought it up. I did that away from us. I was like, you guys have something to relate to. I was like, hey, same car. It's an instinctual intuitive, like, we're a cool kind of thing. Yeah, no, it's a cool car. I like what you're saying about me without actually saying it about me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're a cool as fuck, too. And is it matted, too? Is it matted? No, I think mine's just very dirty. Oh, OK. Yeah. Of course, man. Which is even cooler than-- It's cooler than matted. Yeah, a nice car, but you keep it dirty. You keep it dirty. Is it inside dirty? Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. And your wife, Allison, does she like it or no? The car itself? No, the inside of the car. No. Every time she comes in, it's just the bottle situation in the passenger seat with speed R. You got to have the bottles. Yeah, it's just like, I don't have a lot of people in my car. I'm not a messy person, but like, in my own space, I guess I don't mind it. You know, that I'm the same way. If you look at my car, there's some sporadic bottles. There's a lot. What do you mean? There's like cigarette packs everywhere and some-- Oh, that's interesting. Will, but even me come in a year. I'll tell you what, that's interesting. No, no, no. Oh, Dave, I'm going to just-- why that's interesting? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. OK, Dave, I'm so sorry. We're going to get into it. No, no, no. I'm going to tell you why that is because he's the lot guy at the comedy store. I parked the car. So he parked all the comedians cars, right? And that's private information. I'm so sorry, what? You're disclosing it right now. You are disclosing it. What? I never would have brought it up. What, what, what, what, what, what? At me, Pat? Oh, yeah. I'm trying to come down. Well, that's another rude thing you just said. We got to let Bobby be Bobby. I genuinely thought he was like a giant booger. I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, that's yeah. I'm so sorry. It's OK. It was like, see, covering the hole. It was covering the nostril. I'm so sorry. It's OK. Well, yeah, I'm breaking out. I apologize. I know I apologize. To the fans out there, I apologize. No, it's me. Let's go back to our guest, please. Yeah, quick. Yeah, let's give Dave Refranko a round of applause. Very great actor. Real quick, going back to keeping your own spaces. I love it. When I came in here just now, five minutes ago, I asked where the bathroom was. You walked me there because you wanted to make sure it was clean. What did you think was going to be in there? Oh, well, we have all these people use it. Oh, OK. Oh, OK. Yeah, we're putting it on everyone out. Yeah, we have a bulldog. Let me just say, OK. We have a bulldog here. I just want to say this. My upstairs two bathrooms have been refurnished. Furnished. Furnished. Furnished. Furnished. Refurbished? Yeah, keep going. Luke, what's the word? I mean, unless there's furniture in there, I think it's refurbished. Yeah, it's refurbished. Right, here we go. And sometimes I say the wrong words. That's OK. OK. It's got a thing. It got there. I apologize. We got to the bottom. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So the bathroom downstairs, which I should get refurbished, right? Because gas use it, I think that's the next thing I do. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, so I apologize for that. Not at all. It's lovely. It worked. It worked. It worked. So yeah, it worked. Everything worked. Absolutely. There was a little bit of toilet paper left. Yes and not. We got to restock that. OK. We have guests like Dave. All right. So anyway, welcome to the show. And I asked Luke this question. Because how old are you? Can I ask or don't? Can you guess? Oh, it goes, I know your brothers. No. You know, both brothers. Not only one. Oh, OK. You said brothers. But I know of him. I know of him. OK. OK. You do. How do you know? How do you know Tom of Tom? I've seen him in things. What have you seen him in? He's not like an actor. Like, come on, bro. Are you-- Are you-- Are you-- Are you-- Are you-- This is like, I'm not trying to hide you. He's an artist? Yes. Yes. Are you guessing? No, this is like-- I guess he's an artist. No, but he's a beautiful artist. Genuine curiosity, though. Did you just come across some of his sculptures or paintings? Yes, I have. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. But I thought he'd just film as well. All right. So this is where it's going to be a war. I like war? No. So what was I saying? OK. You know what my brother's age? So age-wise, you were the youngest. Yes. Yes. Yeah. 37. What do you guys got? The way you were-- 41. Yeah, I'm going to say 41, just to match my age. I know the answer. OK. You look very young, but it's got to be 40. Just turned 41. There it is. On the dot. On the dot. 1884. 85. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's Tom. You look young as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. How handsome is Tom? Tom is handsome. Yeah, Tom's cool. Yeah. Tom is five years older. James is seven years older. Oh, so James is the oldest. Yes. Yeah, yes. OK, so your generation's millennial, your millennial, yes. So in your generation X, Z, your Gen Z, 25, your Gen Z. There's a theory that the 85, 85, 86 babies are the coolest millennials. Oh, go on. That's all I know. OK. You guys know what I'm saying? That's enough. That's enough. That's enough. I was asking this kiddo here, name me 10 X men. Oh, not the actors, but the characters. OK, and you do it. Oh, I can you do 10? No, but let's try it. That's right. Magneto. Oh, storm. Yeah. We got Cyclops. Yes. Oh, is Hulk an X man? No, he's not. No, no, no, no, I didn't. I didn't do anything. Yeah, yeah, you didn't do anything. It's, um, we got. Can I give you some of your hands? Yeah, yeah, please. OK. So there's a guy that's in a wheelchair. Yes, that is Professor X. Yes, or I'm going to give him that one more, right? Red head girl with a blonde in the front. We're not going to get that. [LAUGHTER] She's got Red Head at either. Yes, right? When she goes rogue. Rogue is not red head. Rogue. She's ruined that with a white stripe. She has a-- well, it depends what you're-- That's Jean Grey.
- No, that's not Gene Graham, I'm not confusing the both. - Oh, oh Beast, Beast. - Beast? - Oh, oh the blue girl, blue girl. Is there a blue girl? - Yes, Missy, that's good, six. All we need is four more. So I'm gonna give you some, there's a guy that turns into complete steel. Nope. - That's the one. - What? - I'll be a tough one. It's kind of a side one. - No, no, no. - Is it a side one? - Am I missing any of the main ones? - Yeah, you are. There's a Canadian. - There's a big Canadian actor. - No, he's small, actually. - Small in the comics. - He's a small dude. - Oh, oh, oh, oh, that's not a Wolverine. - Wolverine. - Well, Wolverine. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Oh, oh, oh, it's not it. So set seven, let's go through. There's one that is purple as well, that disappears and reappears. - Oh, oh, oh, okay, shadow. (laughing) - Not tomorrow. - Okay, okay, I'm gonna give you the first. And then you, you, go, go, go, go, give me it. - Knight writer. - Knight, knight, knight, knight hawk. - Let's get his look, the Knight Crawler. - Richard Ramirez. - Richard Ramirez. - Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. - We both got her on, kid. - It's Knight Crawler. - It is Knight Crawler. - Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. - I was like, wait, am I wrong? - I'm Gen X. - I'm Gen X. - You're Gen X, why? - Yes, we get confused. - We get confused. - We get confused. - Wait, wait, real quick. Were you asking him this question because did you not know any of them? - He knew three. - I brought coffee. - Three, okay. - He knew it laserized. - Because X men's not big for your-- - I don't know if it's a generational thing. - Okay. - Or maybe I'm just too dope to know stupid-- - No, no, I'm just kidding. - But I-- - That's-- - So coffee, do it. - So coffee. - I just-- don't-- I don't know. That kind of missed me somehow. It was X-Men, were you watching a show? - There was shows, there was movies. It was a little bit of everything. - I don't know if it was comics. - There was also a cartoon show. - Okay, yeah, that's what I'm curious about. - How'd you forget Deadpool? - Is that, is that, is that really X-Men though? - He is. - He's not in the movie. - What about Saber Tooth? - Saber Tooth, yes! Well, where's brother GF9? - That's right. - Oh, he needs one more. - Oh, he needs that pool as an X-Men. - What's the wrong guy through card? - Oh yeah, yeah, Gambit. - Gambit! - Yeah, that you got the tan dude, that was really good. So that's 10, you got two. - I got a sister. - I got a sister on about seven. - Oh, oh, you got a sister. What do you say, that's a card thing? - Huh? - He's from Louisiana. I can see Theo playing Gambit. - Not Channing Tainemar? - Oh yeah, Channing Tainemar. - Break it. - What? - Yeah, we want to give it to him for Channing. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - We'll give it up. - Channing, man. - Yeah, Channing was good at it. Channing was good at it. - Do you love X-Men? (laughing) - Here's my thing with the superhero. Here's my thing with what's so, what's the, what's the, what's the way he said it? - No, no, I'm not attacking you. This is like a curiosity. You'll realize, this feels like a war. It's more just curiosity. - Yeah, I'm a very curious warlock, but it seems curious as well. - Okay. - I'm just like, why do we bring this up in the first half? - Okay. - Why? - Yeah, yeah. - Because I think it's important. - Okay. - It's important because it's important to you. You love X-Men. - No, no, no, no, I think it's important culturally. - Okay. - Yeah. - I'm not saying that. - You're not solved? (laughing) You're not already solved? Are you still into comic books? - No, I'm massive into this. Here's the deal. - Okay. - I have a girlfriend. - Yeah. - Her and I dated for 10 years. - We don't count to say you have a girlfriend. - Wait, wait, wait. We pause for a minute. - You're awesome. - How long ago did you guys end the relationship? - Four years ago. - Four years ago. - And were you guys working together from the beginning? - Yeah. - Like with relationship? - Yeah. - Okay, and was there a period when you guys broke up as a tough transition where it was like we're not together but we're still working together? - No. - No. - No. - Why, how? - I love him so much. - I love her too. - Was it a very mutual breakup? - No. - Oh. (laughing) - The voice crack. (laughing) - No, but you know, I'm friends with all my ex girlfriends. - Is that true? - Yes. - That's amazing. - Why? - I think it says something about you. I think it says something great about you. - I mean, you develop a friendship as well. You know what I mean? - Of course. - Yes, it's a rare thing. - I think it's a rare thing. There's a, you're mean, but you remove that. There's still the friendship. - But I think it's a rare thing. - 10 years and seven animals together. There was no getting away from you. - Yeah, it's a kids. - You guys still had a couple animals you were sharing. - Seven. - Seven when you broke up? - Yeah. - And still seven now. - Okay. - Okay. - We have six now. - Yeah, yeah. - Let's not talk about that. - Okay, okay. - I'm gonna sell you to you culturally. - Okay. - Okay, so I have a new girlfriend. - Okay. - And she doesn't know anything about anything. So it's like, and that's nothing against her. - But it's like, but it's like, you know, you ask her, have you ever heard of Braveheart? - Oh, I got it. - Right? - Yeah. - And she's like, never heard of it. - Sure. - You know, red dead, not red dead. - Shashank red thumbs. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I don't know what that is. - Have you been introducing her to some of this stuff? - Yeah, I've been trying to, we're starting with new stuff. - What have you introduced her to that she really loved? - Oh, what I, oh, it got so much. I introduced her to, well, things like kingdom, it's a Korean show. - I love King Kong. - A penguin, the TV show. - The TV show. - She loved that. - Yeah, absolutely, I loved it. - What a great show. - Incredible. - You see it? - No comment. - Okay, that's okay. - It's okay, it's okay. - He puts it on the list now. - All right. - All right. - Keep it positive. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - But you've seen all that. - I've seen the penguin show. - Yeah, yeah, I loved it. - I loved it. - So yesterday, I was at the mall. - Oh wow. - No, the two days ago, what do you mean? In the very beginning, the mall was sort of like this strut to be recognized. - No. - Oh. - Wait, no. - Is it out of your own mouth? - It's a fence. - In your defense, it was early on and it was just like, let me just see what the star meter is. - Where's the star meter at? - That's what I said. - I said, it was a moment of those long time ago. - Yeah. - A long time ago. - Or acknowledging it happens, we've grown. We've grown. - By the way, I love this story because I feel like everyone probably does it, but no one has everyone's to admit to it. I'm into that kind of like spiritual stuff. - Would you ever put a name in the freezer? - No, but I have to. - That's crazy, but no, no. - My mom, my mom writes stuff down like just kind of like, I don't know if it's goals or just like things, just like putting out good energy, we'll write it down and put it in a little box, put it aside, and then revisit that box and be like, oh yeah, I accomplished that. - Okay, good. - Yeah. - Can we go back to the mall? - Absolutely. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you go to the mall? - Rarely. - But I want to-- - If you were going to go to one, which one would you go to? You live in LA, right? - I do. - Yeah, so which one would you go to? - The only one I'm even aware of at this point is, what's the one I'm lost to yet again? Beverly Center? Beverly Center? - That's the only one you're aware of. - I think so, you know. That's the only one you're aware of. - Give me the reputation of the Bev Center. - All right. - As a, as a mall go. - To me, that's a dead zone. - It is a dead zone. - It's a dead zone, yeah. - How does that still-- - Westfield, Century City, is-- - Oh, that's a good one. - That's a good-- - Yes. - You've been there? - That's on Santa Monica out there. - Yes. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Have you been to that one? - Absolutely. - Yeah, that's the one I go to. - Okay. - Yeah, so if you ever want to check me out, you're-- - And what are you-- - And you're trying to revamp the walk, what? - You want to get recognized again? You know, yeah, pull up to the mall. Bobby, can I ask you a real question? - Go ahead, Dave. - When you're walking around these days, and you're out of mall, and there's a lot of people around, some might recognize you. Are you walking around with a hat on? Is your head low? Are you-- is your chin high? Are you wanting to get recognized? - I'm open-faced, okay. - Yeah, yeah, I do open-faced. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - You want-- - I don't have a conversation. - It's not that, it's just that, you know, because it's a specific kind of person that likes me. - Who is that person? Who's the poster boy that's supposed to be like you? - It's a variety of different, I don't know. - Who do you think likes him? - It depends what they know him for, but if it's from this podcast, I think they're usually like pretty cool artists. - Yeah, R.C. people. - R.C. people, yeah, yeah. - There was a group of, so I was, there was a hot pot place at Central, everyone had been to hot pot, hot pot. Go on. (laughing) - Bro, you can get an interview show, dude. - This is great. (laughing) - Go on. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no delivers your food. - Yeah, and they have cat faces. - Now you're speaking my language. - Yeah, I've always spoken your language. - You have, right? - You have now. - I'm acknowledging it. So, I go there and I'll eat a hot pot, and what it is is thinly sliced meat, vegetables, and you boil it in a hot pot. - Okay. - And you can do a four divider, a two divider, or just one big one. - Okay, but are you going to them all because this is the best hot pot place? - It's rated number one, I guess, if you Google it, the best hot pot. - But that's why you're going there. You're not going there. - No, dude. - This is just a question. - No fuck you. - Why? - Why? - You're projecting on me. - I'm sorry. - What did I do? - Nothing. (laughing) - Nothing. I'm just feeling I'm being attacked. - Not at all. - You gotta change your view on me. - Yeah. (laughing) - No, no, no, no. You're projecting something that's on me. - All right, all right, all right. - It's all positivity. - I'm gonna get to know you. - Yeah, get to know me, get to know me. - Okay. - You are truly going because the food is the best there. - There's a combination of reason why, as of last two weeks, I've been going there. - Okay. - And which is. - So I've eaten the hot pot place four times in the last two weeks. - Okay. - Wow. - Yeah. - Because I spy on the store in front, like across the way from it. - What's going on there? - A line. - Oh, yeah. - Watching the line. - I'm monitoring the line there to see if I should stand in the line. - This is her. - Mine four. - You guys are just all accepting? - Yeah. (laughing) - I'm so confused. - Watching a line to see if I should, wait, what's the line for? - I love boo-boo. - I love boo-boo. - Is that what you're looking for? - The line is four? - No, all of yong. - Oh. - It's all of yong. - It's a Korean cosmetics store. - There's two in LA. - But you've been watching this line for two weeks. - What are you waiting to change to make a decision? - The line going lower. - Oh, you want it to go down. It's gone down yet. - Yeah, so I got a, I did a life hack on it. - Okay. - Okay. - You still haven't stood in the line though? - I won't stand in the line. - Okay. - But I have a life hack on it. - Yeah. - Because yesterday we drove by the bigger store in Pasadena. - Yes, that's the one, that's the open first. - That's the one that opened first. And let me tell you Dave, it's as if,
the first Lord of the Rings movie came out. - Oh wow. - The line's that long. - Okay, this is because Korean products are the best. - Yes. - Okay, is this a generally known thing? - Where have you been? - I don't know. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Okay. - If you have nice skin. - Okay, thank you. I just like use my wife's kind of her routine. - Yeah, yeah. - She knows. - She knows. - Yeah, she knows about all of young too, probably. - I bet she does. - Yeah, and so the one in Central City, you know, here's a life hack, if you wanna know. - Yeah. - You wake up super early, which I did. - Okay. (laughing) - I thought it's like an A. - Yeah, I know, it's an early hop hop. - What's super early for you? - Yeah, what? - Nine. - Okay. - Wow. - Which is really early. - What time are you going to bed to wake up at nine? - Midnight. - Okay, is that typical? - No. - Oh, what's typical? - I just woke up when I graduated. Which is your ethical. - Is that true? - Yeah, yeah. - Just hold on a bit. - Just a few minutes before. - Wow. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - 'Cause you're normally going to bed past midnight. - Oh, I went to bed at three, four in the morning. - What are you doing between midnight and four in the morning? - Last night we sat me in my girlfriend's. We watched probably five episodes of Body Bizarre. - Oh, love Body Bizarre. - Yeah. - Can we get into that? - Yeah. - Okay. - You know what it is? - No. - Yeah, yeah, okay. - It's a show, we're going all over the place, but yeah, yeah. - Yeah, yeah. - It's this show. - Oh, yeah, yeah. - I don't think we're like cool medical cases. - I don't think we're like-- - I get it from one picture. (laughing) - You really understand me with body. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I'm not saying. (laughing) I have a question for Dave. - We're not done with-- - We're not done with Bobby. (laughing) - You're right, you're right, you're right. - I would just let's go with it. - Yeah, who do you think your fans are? How would you describe that? - Oh, this is a good question. - Yeah, it's a good question. - Gosh. - It's so hard to say. I honestly don't know how to answer that, because you know why? Because I'm not on social media, so I'm not really interacting with these people a lot. - You don't have an Instagram. - Not on anything. - Yeah, yeah, that's interesting. Who do you guys think are my fans? - Well, you go out in public, right? - Sure. - Do people go, hey, can I have a photo? - Oh, okay. - Are you younger or do you feel closer to 40, 50 now? Everyone kind of moved with you through your career? - I think there's a mix. I think I've been able to kind of bounce around to a lot of different types of things, whether that genre or like adult versus like some animated, animated stuff recently. And so I do think there's a mix. I think when I was coming up, it was like maybe younger girls. But then I think it's transition where I think with like things like I was in the show, the studio. I think a lot of people in more maybe than anything I've ever done, people like in the business are coming up to me about that one. - Oh, you just did an animated with my friend Liza. So we're on a-- - Yes. - Yeah. - How do you know Liza? - Well, we're Filipino. - We're Filipino. - We're so excited about this movie. - Yeah. - It's so good. - It's so cool. - Okay, so this movie, it's like the-- - Is this the one you're promoting? Sort of. - No, it's one of the two. One of the two I'm promoting. - Yes. - The main one we'll do at the end. - Absolutely. - Yeah, yeah. - I don't like double promotion. - I got it. (laughing) - We love you. - I like you. - Don't you dare double promote it. - Don't ever double. - I like that. - I like the cool. - I really like this, 'cause it's my duty as a Filipino to promote Filipino project. - Okay, so this movie, Forgotten Island, it is the first big budget studio movie that focuses on Filipino culture. - Yeah. - And it's this wild concept where it's like, all right, how do I distill this? - It's two best friends, right? - Two best friends, they know each other since childhood. - Are those their arms? - That's it. - Yeah. - That's it. (laughing) - Yes, Bobby. - And so we catch them on their final night before one of them is leaving for college in the US. So it's like this kind of bittersweet final night. - What Island? - The Island that they eventually go to. - Well, yes, we're getting there, Bobby. - Yeah. - So, okay. - Okay, so on their final night. - He's asking 'cause he's been to the Philippines many times. - Gotcha, gotcha, you're gonna love this movie. So, final night, bittersweet, they get sucked into this portal that actually brings them to this mythical Island, full of like all these like characters from Filipino lore. And they realize the only way to get off this island is to give up their memories. But by giving up their memories, they might forget each other. It's so touching. - Now, let's put it in the lore, okay? - Okay, there's me, there's me. - That's exactly what happened. - That's you, okay, that's raw with two W's. - What lore is, in Filipino history, what lore is this? - You're asking the wrong person, do you know? - I'm trying to think of what character this is. - To me, you're a fucking coyote. - Okay. - Yeah, it's actually a weird dog. So, it's like, it's like, oh, yeah, it's like, where wolf but dog style, I go back and forth between being human and like that. - Now, there's a mythology of an old man smoking a cigarette, you meet on a tree. Okay, what is he? - It's called a cup-ray. - A cup-ray. Depending on what island you're from. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. He travels around. - And what's his deal? - Yeah, yeah. - What do you, Bobby, explain. - All I know about the mythology, there's an old man, or creature. - It's a big creature. - It's a gigantic creature who lives in a tree, and he smokes cigarettes. - A cigar. - A cigar. - And you smell it. - You smell that's what you know, that's what he is. - Oh, that's it? - Yeah, yeah, that's him. - Oh, yeah. - This is a very scary cup-ray. He doesn't quite look good. - Well, to me, he does. - He's not in this G-rated. (everyone laughing) - Well, if he's not in it, I don't like it. - No, no, you're gonna love it. - No, I'll tell you why, because he's legendary, Bobby. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - When you see the movie, you don't like this movie. I'll give you whatever you want. - Compared to other animation movies. - Ooh. - Some I don't like, some I do like. - Okay, this movie actually does have slightly more adult themes. It's like structurally, it's like the hangover, where these girls wake up on this mythical island, and they're like half of their head is shaved, all this crazed, they're one of them as giant wings, and they're like, "What happened last night?" And so it's like going back and figuring out what happened. So we're referencing the hangover, we're referencing super bad about these friends who are going off to college. They're moving away from each other, dealing with that. You don't seem sold. What else can I tell you? - No, no, no, no, I'm sorry. - I think this is like, you've never really seen Filipino, like, mythological creatures, like too much. - I've seen some of your cousins. (laughing) - I'm like, awesome mythological, all the time. - Have you trusted me and your friends and trust me? - Are you a fan of animated movies in general? - I'll tell you what the ones I like. - Okay, have you seen "Pus and Boots" the last wish? - That's so good. - Yeah, it's very funny. - Same writers, directors, same writers. - All right, now you're convinced me. - Yeah, you guys are incredible. - Oh, I'm gonna have a jeep me in there. How cute. - Yeah, a jeep me in there. - Okay, I'm gonna watch this. - Yeah. - It looks beautiful. - It's so beautifully done. - And they mix. - It's out in the theaters now. - No. - It's on September 25th. - Yes, and they mix the animation. We do a little anime at some point. - Yeah. - It's like, it's really beautiful. - It's cool, that's nice. - Yeah. - I'll do a tit for tat. - Okay. - All right, you watch animation movie. I was just in. I'll watch your one. - Okay, what do you got for me? - I was on goat. - Go? - Goat. - Goat? - Yeah. - That is on the list for me. Okay, I'm gonna do it. I promise you. - All right, I was in goat. I don't think I'm in the photo. - What? - Who are you playing goat? - I'm not in the photo. - Are you a dragon? - No, I play it bad. - Okay. - Did you like how the movie turned out? - Yeah. - Great. - Yeah, but I don't know. It's hard to, because a lot of the movies I'm in is awful. - That's, don't do that to yourself. - I don't know. They just are just, you know what I mean? - Why do you say that? - Because of the rotten tomatoes. - That fuck that dude. - No, no, no, don't get me started on that shit. - What did together get? - I don't know it did well, but like whatever. (all laughing) - What was the rotten tomatoes together? - Give me the rotten tomatoes. - 90%, yeah, so I've never been in the 90%. - Listen, listen. - Yeah, so that's good. - Here's the thing, don't fucking do that to yourself based on a rotten tomato score. Have you ever, let me ask you this. Have you ever been in something and you saw it ahead of time and you were like, I liked this movie and then it came out and rotten tomatoes gave it a low score? - No. (all laughing) - I made yours just an only shit. - No, no. - No, I've seen things I went, I've gone, oh, this is good. - Wait, I have one, we were in res dogs. - It got good rotten tomatoes. - Yes, it's like, you loved it, you were proud of it. - Yeah, it did good. - Yeah, and it got so many awards. - Yeah, here's the thing, I've been in projects that I haven't gotten the best scores. Like, you can't listen to that shit. It's like, you go out, you make the project, you went out to make, and sometimes you're like, okay, we made what we tried to achieve. Of course, you want people to like it, you can't control it, they feel, but it's like, I wouldn't have changed anything, so what can you fucking do? - Well, what can you do as an actor? - There's notes. - Of course. - Well, this lead, you don't edit it. - Well, this leads me to what I've been doing in recent years, I've been producing a lot more and a lot of that, it started because, as you know, as an actor, you can give so much to a project, you can kill yourself and then you see the final product and you're like, my performance sucks, whether it's because of the editing, the music, the way it looks, all this shit that's out of your control, and so as an actor, I started producing because I was like, I want to get in there on the edit, I want to be able to help shape my performance, I know we have a better take than that, why are you using that take? - Yes. - And then it grew where I just really started like every aspect of just the whole process and I started directing and doing all of it, but anyway, yes, a big part of it is taking control and making sure that you have your own fingerprints in there. - Yeah. - Because I've seen takes of myself and went, that's the one you chose. - You can't believe it. - Yeah, you know you did better stuff. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, it better takes, yeah. And it's like, I never thought of it that way up producing my own stuff. - But also, it's beyond just looking at my own performance, I'm looking at the other actors in the movie, I want the whole thing to work where I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no, we can make their performance better, choose a better take, so I'm looking out for everyone. (upbeat music) - Their performance better. Choose a better take so I'm looking out for everyone. - Why can't we do this? - Yeah. - And let me ask you something. - Please. - Why can't as an actor we go, hey, can I see that last one? - You can, you can. - You can. - I bet. - I do. - I bet. - I'm so low in the cast. They're like, no. - You have 10 lines, no. - It depends on the, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, not you. - It depends on the director. It depends on the director. - I've never been able to do it. Can I see that last take? Because I can look at the take, right? And I just did something, I signed an NDA, so I can't say it, but I just did a show. For a streamer, right? And they, because my friends, the lead, they were able to go, I was able to go, can I look at it? - Yeah. - They go, yeah. And you could see what you're doing where you could adjust in the right place. - Yes. - Okay, some people don't like to look because they just get in their own head when they're watching themself on screen, but I'm like you, I like to see how it's coming across, and adjust. - Yes, I wanna adjust. - Yeah. - I go, yeah, that's not what I'm, yeah. - You gotta, it's case to case though. You gotta feel it out with the director. Some directors don't want you watching anything. Others are like totally open. Yeah, come back, watch anything. - Yeah. - We're a director, do you like, would you let your actors take a look at this? - I think so, absolutely. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Also, like what I've learned just from acting, and then kind of transitioning to more behind the camera stuff, is like when you're an actor, I want some sort of feedback. Like, you know, there's so many times where you'll do something, you know, 10 different takes, and you haven't heard a single direction from anyone, and you start to get in your head, you're like, okay, clearly I'm doing something wrong, but more often than not, it's like a technical issue. - Yeah. - Tell me that, tell me, hey, you're doing great. We're just fixing the camera over here, so when I'm directing, I will come over to the actors after every single take, and let them, most of the time, just being like, that's great. We're just gonna try another to have fun with it, or just like, hey, technical thing, just try another. So just letting everyone know, like, here's where we're at, don't get in your head, everything's going great. - Now, when you're doing a take, and you see movement, okay, somebody doing a lighting thing, or like, they're distracting you in any way. Do you snap? - Oh, oh, oh, oh, you're saying when like, I'm an actor. - I didn't say Christian Bale. - Well, you're very serious. (laughing) - I didn't say Christian Bale. I'm just saying I know, for a fact, that these things happen. - Do you get mad? - I will not get mad, but if someone's doing something distracting that's in my eye line, I might say something, but I'll say it in a very kind way. I'll just be like, hey, I'm so sorry, is it okay if we don't do that during the take? - And they go, no, it's not okay. - Don't ever. (laughing) - Yeah, as a lighting guy, I would say to you, no, we have to adjust the whole thing. - That's because you want us to have a combative relationship, but I'm just trying to love you here, Bob. (laughing) - All right. - Will you get upset when people are in your eye line or doing something? - Yeah, but I don't think I have the power to do anything. - Have you ever gotten mad about that? - Oh, yeah. - And what do you say? - I don't say anything. - Oh, yeah, yeah, I don't say anything, yeah. - Do. - Okay. - I'll stew in it and I'll create it. - You know what? What I've learned from you in the last 10 minutes. (laughing) I think you need to speak up for yourself more on say. - Yes, yes, yes. - On say, go up to the director and be like, hey, no pressure, but I'd love to see that take better. - Yeah, okay, so I've had this happen, okay? I'll tell you what I've had. I've had, like, I was reoccurring on a TV show. - Name it, shout it out. - Yeah, yeah, no. - Okay. (laughing) - I will not, yeah, but I was, I did, I don't know, 12 episodes of a procedural show on network show. And it was fun to do, right? And there was, you know, people that don't know, every week the director changes. - Oh, right, right. - Right. - It's tough, right? - And I had this one, right, that was a screamer. - Oh. - You know, and he screamed at me all the time. And so I did go up to the producers when he wasn't around. - Yeah. - And I said, hey, I know I'm reoccurring, so that's what I don't know, right? (laughing) And I go, but, you know, next time, I know it. - I can handle this guy, I can handle it. - Right. - And they're like, what are you saying? I don't think, you know, that's what you're saying. And I go, what I'm saying is, okay? I cannot work with this guy. It freaks me out. And they go, okay, we'll make sure that he's not the director for any more of the episodes. - And was he not? - He was not. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - There you go, you said that. - One of the executive producers was my best friend. - Well, still, you said something to him? - I did say something. - Yeah. - Yeah, so you do sometimes have to say. - Speak up for yourself. - Yeah. - But sometimes you just trust it. Like, they're so good that, you know-- - Absolutely. But it's rare. It's rare when you're in the hands of someone where you're like, whatever you think, I am in your hands, like, lead me, right? - Yeah. - Yeah. - Are there, like, certain directors, like, Tarantino for instance? - Sure. - Absolutely. - You just kind of listen to them. - 100%. - Yes. - Yeah, and you don't ask for-- - No. - No, no, no. - If he's moving on, you know he's happy. - Yes. - Yeah. - Right, 'cause he's a master. - Yes. - Yes, absolutely. - So there are directors like that. I mean, there are some directors that are like that. - Give it. - Spielberg. - Of course. - Yeah. - You don't say nothing. - What? - Okay, no, nothing. - Would you say something? - Oh, no, nothing, you're going, you're going. - Yeah. - I am curious why you're laughing about that. - Yeah. (laughter) - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - Let me throw the director on you. - Spielberg. - Yeah, all right. - You're just like, yeah, obviously. - Oh, let me throw someone out. - Yeah, yeah. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Let me give you a tough one. - Yeah, yeah. (laughter) - Right, right. - Yeah. - Okay, okay. - Okay, okay. - I see what you're doing. All right, yeah, these are obvious. - God, I got it. - You were like, I'm in your hands, whatever you want. - Okay, so I'm going to tell you this, right, what you're doing, is you're a crafty f***er. - Okay. - Okay. (laughter) - And I like it. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah, okay. - You craft your crafty, and I like it. - Okay. - But you've somehow turned it into-- - Bobby, can I tell you something? - No, no, wait. (laughter) You somehow turned it into you're the host, right? (laughter) And I understand what is happening. And I accept it, and I'm fine with it. I'm just saying, I know what you're up to. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - It's not an intentional manipulative thing. - I know it's not. - It's more that I know everything about me. I'm bored of me. I'm curious to get to know you. - Oh, but my fans might not know. - Well, you got to ask me something. - Yeah. (laughter) - Okay, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, before you do. Before you do. (laughter) - All right. - You're not, why not? - Your favorite director. - I'm not. - Favorite director you worked with? (laughter) - Oh shit. - Do you make commercials? 'Cause you have some heavy hitters in the first place. - That counts for sure. - Michael Pay. - Tell me about Michael Pay. - Whatever. - Have you ever known him? - I don't know, tell me. - Michael Bay. - Michael Bay. - Yeah, yeah. - I worked with Michael Bay. - You did. - Yeah, tell me, tell me about your project. - A movie called Six Underground, this movie, this movie is wild. I play a getaway driver, and so I did two days of stunt driving training, and it was really fun. And I actually felt pretty good, but I'm like, they're never gonna let me drive this car for real. We were shooting in Florence, Italy, tiny narrow streets. I got Ryan Reynolds in the car next to me. I'm like, they're never gonna let me drive. Cut to us out in Florence. I was driving every take, and I was driving very fast. - So. - I remember there was a day where I get out to set, we're in the middle of the city. I get behind the wheel, and Michael's like, "All right, roll camera." I go, "Michael, what are we shooting?" (laughter) He gets the script, and he finds the scene, he goes, "What's funnier than that? "What's funnier?" And I'm looking at the scene, and he goes, "You'll figure it out, roll camera." So now all of a sudden, I'm improvising funny lines while doing donuts next to a world famous museum in Florence where if I hit something, I'm literally destroying history. (laughter) - This shit was-- - Your pressure. - But this is like classic Michael Bay. - He loves the chaos. - He loves it, he loves it, yeah, that's what I like about him. - Yeah, okay, it's just exciting for you. - Well, he's sort of like Batman villain. - Go tell me more. - Well, no, not in a Batman villain. He wanted to his Thanksgiving. - Oh. - Yeah, we've talked about it before, but I went to Thanksgiving, and I thought it was gonna be a big, a bunch of people were gonna be there. - Okay. - And it was just me, his fiance, him, his mom.
How did you get this invite? I know 'em. Right, but clearly, do you know 'em very well enough to get that invite virtual way back? - It's what happened here. - All the story, yeah. - Bobby on this podcast for the last decade has talked about a specific experience doing a commercial with Michael Bay. And it is in the positive story, you know. And I think it finally got back to Michael Bay. - Oh, okay. - Oh, Michael's like, hey, let me make this up. - And then I think that-- - No, that's not one of this stuff. - His fiance is a big fan of Bobby and she's probably be like, hey, I heard this, like make it right. Then I think he made it right with Bobby. - That's not one of this. - That's no idea about that. - He doesn't? - No. - He doesn't know, his fiance is a gigantic fan of mine. - Oh, okay. - Right, and so they bring Bobby. - So she doesn't know-- - He loves me because he's come to the common store many times to see me perform. - Has he not like apologized then? - There's no apology. They've been said, can I be honest with you? Can I be honest with you? - Yeah, here it is. - Oh, the thing that I said before was false. - Oh. - I exaggerated it. - About something that he did. - Yes. - He was completely made up. - You don't deserve an apology. - I apologize. - I apologize. (laughing) - Have you apologize? - I hate it about you. I love this story. Like the light, the light. - Because you don't seem to think that you're ever gonna run into the guy again. (laughing) So I tell stories like, I'm never gonna say this guy again. But then all of a sudden life, you know what I mean? - How often are you just fully fabricating time? - All the time. - Have you made up anything on this in the last? - Yes. (laughing) - This whole podcast. - What would he lie about right here? - I don't eye the olive young. - You know what now? (laughing) - Are you fucking kidding me? - No, I go to olive young. This is, here's our whole relationship with a fucking lie. - You back up a little bit. - No, yeah. - No, no, it's the first time I've been really combative with this in the only time. - Here's the truth of the olive young. - Fucking lying. (laughing) - You make it seem like, you know, I make it seem like I'm by the window looking out at the line. - Oh, okay. - All right, here's the truth of the story. Is that, yes, I go to that place and then I happen to just walk by olive young to see if the line is long. - Okay. - The whole purpose of going to this mall is to go to the olive young. It, I do love the hot pot place, but it's not like I care or I eye it. - Let me ask you. - Okay, so in that way, but see, the way I said it though is funnier. - Barely. (laughing) - It would be, okay, okay, okay. - You gotta punch that story. - They make the lie worth it. - To make the lie worth it, you gotta punch it up a little bit. - What about the name and the freezer? Tell me that's real. - George's name is not in the freezer. But Andrew Santino's name has been in there. (laughing) These are white lies. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I have put people's, one name in the freezer of Santino's, and that's it. - Okay, yeah. - Did it cool off your relationship? - 100%. - It did work. Yeah, yeah, yeah. George, your name is not in the freezer. (laughing) But yeah, so I take things that are, sometimes I just just fabricate things out of, - Elaborating for the story. I get that. - It's embellish. - It's embellish, man. It's also like, I like getting caught in the lie. - You do. - Yeah, yeah. - What's that feeling like? (laughing) - It's fun. - You like shame? - I love shame. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Whoa. - I'm shameless. - Yeah, yeah. So it's like, - Shame is like a lot of people's least favorite, like a motion. - I understand up, and I'm true pretty much as an actor too. There's some shaming. - Oh, for sure. - Yeah, where it's like, you forget lines. - Well, and it's just the most vulnerable job. - It's so vulnerable. - Yeah, yeah. - Like, being on the other side of the camera, I could like really see it for the first time. - Yeah. - Where I'm like watching these actors, just like, you know, hype themselves up for a really intense emotional scene. And I'm watching behind the monitors. I'm like, fuck that. - Yeah. - Like, and then you have to go out there and you've got 100 people watching your face, like a close up on your face in every little loop. - It's so stressful. - And you've got to just perform. - Yeah, it's so stressful. - It really is. - Makes me love actors more than ever. - Yeah. I mean, talk about shame. He did comics unleashed. - Dude. (laughing) - It's a great show, and I know a lot of great comics on it. - What's the reputation of comics unleashed? - It's a good one. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah. - It's a really strong and very good. - I don't believe you. (laughing) - It's just, it's a false roast. - Right. - It's a false roast. - It's one of his lines. - Yeah, okay. - Whoa, I don't know. - I imagine you're doing what you're doing because you want your stand-up comic, yeah? - Yeah. - Okay, how old were you when you started working with these guys? - This was recent. I don't know. I met Bobby probably like a year ago or something like that, but I've only been on the podcast a couple of times. - How many times? - Four. - Three or four maybe. - Yeah, that's not a couple. - Oh, what the fuck? - Has it been spread out or is it kind of consistent now? - You've been the guy lately. - Okay. - Yeah. - It's been a lot of fun. - What kind of energy is he bringing that you're liking? - Gen Z. - Yeah. - It's not Gen Z. If you want to get real technical about-- - I do. - You do? - Yeah. - The technical about it is, why are you laughing? - No, please don't ask me anything. (laughing) I like the way you said it, that's all. - It's a technical thing. - Yes. - Okay. - Yeah, Gilbert laughed at the same thing. - Guys, we're not going to get caught up in it. - We're not getting caught up in that. - What can I just say? Good energy coming from this side. - Yeah, I know, that's what I like. - Yeah, yeah. - He pauses, he gets scared. - Yeah, that's what I like. - That's what I like. - I get scared, it comes from a real point. - Yeah, yeah, it's nice. - But you own it too. - Thank you. - He's a cute boy. - He is a cute boy. - You can say it, I can't. (laughing) - Well, the pause is so quickly though. - I'm hyping this up. (laughing) - That doesn't want to let me bring some positivity. - I don't want negative. - No, I don't want negative. I'm a positive guy. - Is there something positive about Dave? - Okay, so this is up and I'm going to be completely and utterly honest. - Please, yeah. - Okay, I knew who you were. - Okay. - I had never seen anything you were in. - That's okay. - Except I bought tickets for Together. - Okay. - And I saw that with. - Can I ask you, never seen 21 Jump Street. - Never seen any of that. - Great film. - Have you never seen? - No, because I'll do it for it. I can't. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Channing, tanning, I understand that. (laughing) - Bobby. - And actually, 21 Jump Street was, the movie was, so Stephen Yoon, we love Stephen Yoon. - We love Stephen, you know, he's done this. And Stephen Yoon, this is right off the heels of the boom, walking back. - Walking back. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry. I had to do this with the zombie. Yeah. Good zombie or not? Good, good, good. - Yeah, so, and we were, this is when you showed up for auditions. And to me, Stephen Yoon was our kind of like future Brad Pitt. - Oh, oh yeah, yeah. - In terms of Korean dude. - I still think he is. - I still think he is, but I had two lines in 21 Jump Street, and he was auditioning for the same two lines. - Okay. - And I pulled him outside and I said, "You can't be doing this." - Ah, ah, what did he say? - He goes, "I think you're right." I go, "Yeah, I got these little side things at the front." - Sorry, it's just like a pep talk. We're trying to get him out of the audition. - But I get it. - Look dude, this is too big for you, okay? - No, he didn't read it. I waited for him to read first. I wasn't trying to fuck him out of the job. - I get what you did. - You're bigger than this. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - You gotta get out of the job. - I just found it offensive that I go, you know, I get me. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - You know, I'm an old, you know what I mean, has been. But for you, yeah, but for you, you're our future light. And I just don't think that two lines is the thing for you. - I get what you're saying. - Yeah, and I was trying to like tell your agents or whatever whoever rubs you, like bring it up because you are hot. - And then look at him, he's fucking killing it. - He's killing it now. Yeah, I'm not saying that because of you. - No, I'll say it. - No, that's not, that's not why. But Bobby, let me just say, it's been 15 years. You should see 21 John Street. It's a great move. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - But you're back together. - Have you seen, never seen neighbors? - Funny. - You were in that, yeah, I loved it. - Okay. - Yeah, I love you, yeah, yeah. - See, now you see me? - Yeah, I see you now. - Okay, I see you now. - I was gonna give you a compliment. - Okay, sorry. - You don't have to stand, I don't think you understood what you said there. - No, what do you say? - Now you see me. - The movie. - The movie. - I know he was the first one. - And you said, I see you now. (laughing) - You're all three. - Oh yeah. - Okay, I brought you down. I brought you down. Get back together. Bring it back up. Bring it back up. Together. - No, there's more shame. - Okay. - Hold on. - We like it. - No, no, no, no. - We like it. - There's some shame. - No, limited. Living it, baby. Hold my hand. - Hold my hand. - Hey, dude, oh my god. - Oh my god. - It's all right. - It's all right. - That was something that I didn't miss. I missed it. - It's okay. - And sometimes I missed things. And I apologize. - Tell me about it together. - Okay, so, you know, we didn't know anything about it, we love, I love horror genre. - Me too, me too. We're gonna go into horror in general after this. - I did some research on it first. You got good Rotten Tomatoes, enough for me to go. - Yeah. - What's a Rotten Tomatoes score where you're like, "Oh, I was interested, but now I'm not gonna go." - I feel like with horror, it's a completely different. - I think under 60% with horror, I won't go. - Even if you were really excited. - Yeah. Under 60% is, I don't like that, I don't like that. - Oh, okay. - Well, accept it. - Have your own conviction. Have your own conviction. - That's my conviction. - Okay. - You know what, you do you. I'm gonna let you do you. - I mean, you look at weapons that I've liked over the years. I love together. I love weapons. I loved obsession. I loved them. I've seen pack rooms yet. - Of course, I've seen them all. - Yeah, you've seen old pack rooms. - Of course. - Worth it. - Have you seen it? - No. - It's very interesting. It's like, what I love about it is this is a movie that is killing it and it's weird, man. It's petty. And I love that a weird movie is doing this now. - Okay, good. - Yes. - I love that.
these smaller directors are killing it. - Also together, we made that for three million dollars. - Yes, and I also love that a little bit of legacy media of the way they were once doing it is probably not the future. - I mean, things are definitely changing. - They're changing. - Yes, and I like the direction it's going. - I love new voices. - Definitely, definitely. - Don't we love new voices? - Yes, tell me about your experience going to see together. - I'm going to. - I loved it. - Thanks, dude. Thank you, man. - I absolutely loved it. I thought it was so weird. - Yes. - And also it was interesting that it was your wife. - Yeah. - Oh yeah. And then I also, the ending was the most weirdest ending. - Oh yeah. - Yeah, I've ever seen it. - It's a big swing. - Because there's no, yeah. - The movie almost can't go on a second longer because you're like, what the fuck happens here? - Yeah, yeah, so what do you think? So here's the thing. All right. Do you see it? - I haven't seen it yet. - Okay, do you see it? - That's okay. That's okay. - It's not okay, it's okay. - I'm aware of it. I'm aware of it. - It's not okay because it's on streaming. It's on streaming, right? - Hulu baby, Hulu. - Hulu baby. - Yeah, Hulu baby. And also it's like, you know, you knew who the guest was. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Okay. - You knew who the guest was. - I'm really. - And I, I, you know, mean the little, the exploration on his latest stuff. - Look, look, he has a point. - I've seen a lot. - Yeah, I think. - I've seen, now you three me. I also, - Now you three me. - I'm three. - Yeah, third one. - Sanctine was in that one. Andrew Sanctine, yeah, he is in that one. - I did a lot of research about your upcoming movie. I'm really excited. - Oh, all right. There we go. - Okay, there we go. - Are we phasing into that? - No, no, we're not talking about together. - No, no, no, don't look it together. - Okay. - Okay. - I'm going to just explain to you to the people that haven't seen it. Is it spoiler or no? - Well, you now we're saying spoiler. - Yeah, you know, well, it doesn't matter. It's been out for a while. - Okay, tell me. - Are you explaining the ending? - I'm explaining the ending. - Leave that out. - Leave that out. Let me explain. No, no, no, no, no, no, I can't, because my, I'll tell you why. - Okay. - All right. How long has together been out? - Well, here's the thing though. But let me tell you why you shouldn't. It's because people who haven't seen it right now are going to be like, oh, I'm curious. And I want to go see it. I don't think that. I don't want to spoil for them. - Yeah, I haven't seen anything in a year. - So let me have my, you can't spoil it. - Let me pitch together. Is that okay, Bob? Can I talk? - Yes. Of course you can. Of course you can. - It's one of a permission. - You're De Fraco. Go ahead. - All right. So it's together. - This is, like you said, this is, this is a tiny horror movie we made for $3 million. I made it with my wife in Australia. And this is a crazy concept where we play this co-dependent couple where, and we get infected with something that makes it so that when we're - So we talk about the cave. - We can, we'll get there. - Okay. - When, we get infected with something. - Why are you talking to me? - I know. - We get infected that makes it so that when we're physically apart from each other, we start to feel sick. - Okay. - So we need to be near each other at all times. But it starts escalating to the point where our bodies start fusing together and it gets fucking crazy. - Oh. - Angler fish. - Yeah. I think that is what that is, isn't it? - Yeah. - But anyway, it gets-- - So there are other fishes that do it. - That fuse? - I think you think. - There's a, there's a fish that can detach its head and leave its body and then grow back up body. - Who's it fusing to? - I, I guess you're right. - So, so competent. - I guess you're right. Oh, I would wait. Fun guy. They fuse. - That's not a fish, is it? - That's a fish. I was talking about an Angler fish. A deep seed. - But I thought we were talking about things that fuse. - Oh, yeah. There's a lot of things that fuse. - Like engines. There's things in the engine that fuse. Bobby, tell me what you liked about together. - Yeah. - No, no, no, no. - No one got to do it. - Hold on. So, okay. So they fuse. - Get some water. - Physically gets sicker when they're apart. - Yes. - And then they start to fuse. - We have to be close to feel okay, but then it starts escalating. - Oh, okay. - He's like a very like on the nose metaphor about cotapency. - Yeah. - Okay, can we, to get around it, because I already talked about it, is you have family. - I have family. - I do. - In the movie. - Yes, my wife. - Yes. - And Elsa parents or something. Her parents. - Her parents. Oh, yes. Okay. - And then come. - Characters who are playing her parents in the movie, yes. - Yeah. - Not my parents in real life. - Yeah, yeah. - Really good. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Well, then we can't even talk about the ending. So we can't even. - But like, you know what's great? You know what's great about us, not talking about the ending and bringing it up so much. - Why, why? - People are intrigued. They gotta go see the movie now. You have to watch the movie. - Yes, yes. - But Bobby, I want to say, genuinely, thank you for seeing it and I'm glad you like it. - I honestly believe that, because I'm a big film buff. Yesterday, I saw the, forgot what it was called, what? The Furious. - Furious, yeah. - Oh, how was that? - I loved it. - Was it great? - Yeah. - The most, too much action. - Oh, oh. - Yeah, it's almost too much. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it was really good movie. It was fun to watch. - Yeah. - I like to see everything too. - Yeah, there's a lot of Korean movies coming out that I'm very excited about. One is called Hope, okay, and one is called Colony, okay. And they're gonna, so the guy that directed Hope, he's been out of the game for 10 years, but the last thing he directed was The Whaling. - Yes, yeah, that's good to me. - Oh, that's good to me. It's a great movie. - I love The Whaling. It's been 10 years, and now Hope is coming out, and it's an Alien movie that's, I'm not giving, I haven't seen it yet. - Yeah. - He sold me already, I mean. - All right, so, all right. So, and then the second movie is The Guy That Did Train Du Bouson, okay. - Ooh, okay. - Right, another great movie. It's another zombie movie called Colony, and I'm excited about that, right. And I'm not trending, but Koreans are, they're great at it. They're great at horror movies. They're great at everything. - Not everything? - Skin. - Yeah. - The legitimate, you know, I mean, mixed martial arts sport. - It is. - It is. - It's an Olympic sport, man. - I know. - Bobby. - Yeah, there's, let me ask you what fighters, because you're a UFC fan, right, are like, you know, me, he's, you know, you know, me, black belt, and tech one dough, and that's all he does. - Taylor Lawtoner. - Taylor Lawtoner, let's fight. - Oh. - He's a tech one. - I know, I know. Yeah, but he's, I didn't know you would have said it. - It's still Taylor Lawtoner. - I know, I understand it. - He's a vampire. - I know, but what are the sports? It's mixed martial arts, right, also, Jitsu, right, wrestling, and boxing. - No karate. - Don't say it like that. Kickboxing. - That's the name of my cat. - Yeah, yeah, karate. - No, kickboxing. - Kickboxing. - Yeah. - It's a big one, right? But like, there's no one like, he's a black belt and kung fu. There's never of that. - I was saying a lot of people start in tech one dough. - Yeah, that's a very fundamental, I'm trying to help your people right now. - Yeah. - I'm already rooting for my people in film, Joe Rogan. - Joe Rogan. - I don't know. - Oh, I thought he was karate, but-- - Kick. - I promise. - I thought he was-- - You Westwood, tech one dough. - Oh, you're right. - You tech one dough? - I don't know. - Okay, sorry, Joe. - Bob, can I ask you about horror movies in general? - Yeah, go ahead. - Give me some recent ones aside from the ones that are huge right now at the moment, not back rooms, not obsession. Give me some like, ones in the last 15 years that you loved. - Have yours ready, too. - I got some ready right now. - Oh, that I-- - Go back and forth. - That I've loved. - Let's go back and forth. - Oh. - Yeah, but that's a standard. - Okay, okay, go. - Yes, go. - I'm giving us somewhere to go, Bob. - That's so standard. - Go. - Okay, all right. - It's almost, I hear me. - All right, obnoxious. - Obnoxious. (laughing) - I'm just saying it's a standard. - He thinks he's got me. - Yeah. - You give me one, give me one. - I don't think I have you. - Give me one. - All right. I saw the devil. - Okay, okay. - No, did you see it? - Yeah. - Okay. - Okay. - Okay. - Did you see the Austrian version of Good Night Mommy? Have you seen that? - No. - That's a fucking great movie. - Right, that's not real. - The Austrian version, not the remit. - Not the remit. - Okay, the Austrian of Good Night Mommy. - Have you guys seen Raw? - Yes. - Oh yeah, Raw is fucking fantastic. - Like that, number five. - Raw, oh my. - Is this the Austrian one? - The poster for it. - Raw is French, maybe? It's another, it's another form movie. - I got one. - Yeah. - The Swedish version of, like the right one. - I fucking love that movie. - Yeah. The Danish version of Speak No Evil, do you see that? That movie will fuck you up. - Can I say something? - You saw the remake. - I saw the remake. - I didn't like it. - Watch the original. I promise you'll like it. - Is this the final one? - Okay, let me defend myself real quick. - Okay. - Okay, because I think I'm being trapped in the corner and I'm trying my word. - You're not, you're not. - All right, so here's, I don't like any. - You did challenge me going into this whore back and forth, continue. (laughing) - I know I did. - Yeah. - I feel like I'm losing, 'cause I'm sweating a little bit. - But there's a little sweat going on. But here's what I don't like. I don't like invasion movies or people acting, like regular people acting crazy. - Oh. - Like the strangers. - Oh. - You know what I mean? - Oh. - You were in a house. - Why don't you like it? - I don't like slashery kind of thing. - Because it's, I don't know, can you beat Jason? - I mean, well, I just like, I like a slasher, because I like, I like whores that do live in the real world that are grounded where you're like, "This shit could actually happen." - Yeah, audition, I liked. - Auditions fucking great. - Audition. - Classic, classic. But you know what audition is? Fucking standard. Everyone likes audition. - Yeah. (laughing) - Whip it. - I was about to dance. - That is like such a standard. - All right. Audition. - I got a, I got a new one. - Oh, let me throw someone. - Please, right? - You're really pissing away. - I'm waiting, I'm waiting. Battle Royale. - Sure. - That's a standard. - That's like, what is it about? - It's a hunger game. - Yes, hunger game. - It's an OG hunger game. - Great movie, great movie though. - Standard city. - Great about funny games. - What? - Funny games is so fucked up and I love it. - Okay. - Yes, I mean, you're seeing funny games? - No. - Oh, right there. - Yes. - I mean, I'm saying it, but I also read it down. - Yeah, yeah. (laughing) - But there's also a remake of funny games watching the original. - Yeah, original. - All right, so yeah. - That's original. - Oh, that sounds fun. All right.
- These are the, oh, cans, sure. - That's a good one, I like when that happens. (laughing) - For each film, no, no, what I'm saying is is that you have to be honest with yourself. Let's be honest with ourselves right now, right? Whenever there's a cans thing on a, - It's why they put it on there? - I know, but whenever that happens, you go, oh, it's like a criterion collection. - Not every movie that's gone to can. - Yeah, that's a good movie though. - Oh really? - Let's be honest about that. - Oh yeah, oh yeah, Bobby. - What? - All-fiction? - Yeah, that's a great movie. (laughing) - It was booed, you think a hundred. - It was booed at can. - Was it really? - Yeah, all-fixion was booed. - Is that a, look that up, look that up. - Yeah. (laughing) - Yeah, yeah, yeah, look it up. But if I'm right, what do I get? - What percent positive are you right? - What? - I think I'm a hundred percent positive. - All-hundred, there's no doubt in your mind. Look this up, look this up. - That or the Venice film festival, okay? - Right, let's do that, you said can already. - No, no, if any. - Wherever it premiered, wherever it premiered. - Wow, Pulp Fixion was famously booed at the 1994 can film festival. You gotta put it in your next movie. (laughing) - So that's a true thing. - But that didn't prove either of our points. - Yes it did. - No, it did not. - 'Cause you just told me that not every movie that has the can's name. - Do you think 100% of movies that I've gone to can are great movies? - I think that there's something like, yeah, S.P.I. and I was going on. - Okay. - What do you mean? (laughing) - I think there's like political things going on of like getting it in there. - But that you're proving my point. - His point. - It means that bad movies can get in. - You're right, they're political. - We want Brad Pitt and we want people to come to can's and we'll just make it a can's name. - I agree. - Okay. - Yes. - Yeah, but I see through those lies. (laughing) - That's what I'm saying. - I think everything is good. - I see through the lies. - Okay. - You gotta be able to see through the lies. - Yeah. - All right. - Yeah. - Write what? - That will fake out. - Yeah, yeah, there's lies, the can's yeah. - So but something about that, do you think the same thing about Criterion Collection? - No, I don't think I enjoy every movie that's on Criterion Collection. But it does make me like perk up a little. If I know it's part of the Criterion Collection, I just watched one last night. - Yeah. - Night of the Living Dead. - Oh, very good one, go. - Classic, classic. - It's a classic. - So you've seen a lot of movies. - We literally try to watch movie a night. - Wow. - And you grew up watching. - Yes, that's why I'm doing all this. - That's why you're doing all this. - Yeah, I feel like I have seen a lot, but I guess I haven't. I think you have, go and understand yourself. - Yeah, you did own your cell phone with Battle Royale and also, I saw the film. - No, no, no, no. - I audition too, yeah. - But I think a lot of people haven't seen it. I think a lot of people haven't seen it. - I think those are like deep dives. - I was trying to give it to you, yeah. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Okay. - Yeah, I don't think a lot of people have seen some of the movies I've seen. - I agree. - I even saw the new Kraken. - Ha. (laughing) - That at Criterion Collection. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - What was that? - Yeah, I like Monsters, that's the thing. I like genre movie. I believe there's not enough monster movies out there. - What about the host? - Right movie, right movie. - But can I say something against this host? - You can. - And I will. - Okay. (laughing) - I think they should redesign the, because when you read, it's seen that CGI is not up to date from what we've seen. - It's maybe part of its charm though. Is it part of the charm? - It could be, yeah. But watching it, it's like, oh god, I wish they did it. What a re-imagining? - Not reimagining, but when they go back, like what star, what a remastered version, where they just change it. Oh, you want everything to stay the same except the CGI. - Except for the CGI part. Like make that a little bit more, you know, because the story and everything and the acting and everything about it is amazing. It's a classic, and I love monster movies. There's another Korean movie that Nolan's song called Monstrum. - Oh, I've not seen that. - Because I love, it's a Korean movie. I love, and the greatest zombie TV show ever made is Kingdom. - I love Kingdom. - Oh, I did not know that. - That was good. - Watch Korean TV show, it's only two seasons. - Oh great. - Called Kingdom. - Okay. - It's on Netflix, right that down, right? And I believe it's one of the greatest TV shows I've ever seen. - Yeah. - It's up there with the Penguin. - Yeah. - Okay. - Yeah. - It's Penguin, when you're pop. - Yeah, whatever. - There's a lot of mythology, or-- - They did a great job. - I did a great job. Of course, I've seen all the Game of Thrones versions of all those. Of course, I've seen a lot, I've seen Breaking Bad. I've seen sopranos. I've seen all the classics. - Real quick. You were kind of asking, do I watch a lot of movies? Is that, and we were kind of got into that, that's why I'm doing all this? Is that, is it similar for you? Like, did you grow up just like, "Hey, I want to be in movies because I fucking love movies?" - I'm barely in movies. (laughing) You see, I try to, I try to come in. - I know, I know. - I try to come in positive, and he undercuts it. - I'm not undercutting it. I'm just saying, in the 30 years of being in the business. - Okay. I don't think that it matches. I don't think people go, "Oh, he's a film star." - But let me say this, let me-- - You're a film star. - I guess you've seen one film I've been in. (laughing) - Yeah, yeah, but I've never, I've never been in the top five of a movie in on a scholarship. - Okay, let me ask this, let me-- - Have you? - Sure. - How many times? - I don't know, I'm not counting. - Three times, I've been in the top five on a scholarship. - You'd ever seen a scholarship? It went, "Oh, I'm number two." - I've acknowledged where I am on a scholarship. - Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. In the movie together, who was first? - Ooh, good question. - That is a good question. I think my wife was first. - Yeah, Alison was first. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay. - And you got no follow-up there. - I do have a follow-up for you. - I do have a follow-up, you know what I mean? Is there an argument about that? - Oh, honestly, I don't think so. I think it was a conversation. I think we both decided you should have it. - Yeah, because you're a loving man. - I am a loving man. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, loving man. Wow. And was it difficult? I can't imagine, like when you and I were together, I can't imagine you and I doing a movie together. - Oh, oh. - Yeah. - What do you mean? We've done a podcast. - I was gonna say, you guys work together. - Movies are different. - Someone asked the director. - It's still a big deal that you guys were able to work together though. - But yeah, I do think that the fact that we have worked together for so long is a testament to how well we do get along. - I'm so impressed at how easily you guys transitioned from being in a relationship to out a relationship and continued the working relationship. That's very impressive. - It is, it is, I don't know, I feel like it's very special. - It is. - I don't think it happens a lot. - Yeah. - But one of the first movies that he made me watch early on a relationship, I don't know if you remember this, but I was like, this is one of the weirdest should I've ever, but I liked it, but it was just really weird. It was "Visitor Q". - Yeah. - You don't know that? - Yeah. - And I'm like, I don't-- - "Visitor Q" is the most fucked. - The most fucked move. Like what? - Like that "Fucked" move. - You're not gonna like it. - I didn't like it. - You wanna know the most fucked move you've ever seen? Have you seen "Marters"? The French film "Marters"? - Yes, I have. - I have. - "Marters" is the most fucked move you've ever seen. - It's so good. - It's so brutal. - It's so, so far. - Yeah, absolutely. - The "Furious". - The "Furious". - The "Furious". Right? Was a little brutal. - Okay. - There's a lot of. You know what I've seen in the show? - What's a joke or laugh? - There's a lot of eye gouging in a movie. - Yeah, but today I've seen Joker laughs a lot. - I'm bringing out the best in the movie. - I have. - I have. - There's a lot of that going on. - Yeah, yeah. It's a new thing. - I have a lot of Red Bull too. - Yeah. - Bobby, let me go back to the one good question. You've asked so far. - Okay. - So. - Working with my wife. Working with my wife. - Oh yeah. - And how that is. - Well, it's a unique, strange thing where we've worked together, I think five times now, but with together, that was the most intense version of it, right? Where. You got something? - You got something. - Okay. - Where we were together all day, every day. And not only that, it was the most intense scenes you can imagine where there were certain days that we were literally attached to each other with prosthetics, where we were going to the bathroom together. And after. You know, you can imagine. I've seen my wife go to the bathroom before, from a distance. I've never been doing it while attached to her standing over her, looking in her fucking eyes. - That's insane. - It was crazy. After every single day on that movie, no. She could hold that for half the day, yeah. But at the end of every single day, we looked at each other and said we could not have made this movie. - Did you poop? - I did not poop while we were attached. - But it also comes from a relief that if you had to stay stuck to someone, like no better person than her. - Well, for us, it really works. But I can't tell you on the press tour, half the journalists were like, "Whoa, what was that like working with your partner?" And we were like, "No, no, no. Don't project on us because you're thinking about how it would be working with your own partner. It's the most fun." - I feel like that's such a relief, because if it's that intimate and it's that difficult, it's like, please get me someone I know. - And it just makes it so. I think we're both the best we've ever been when we're working together because we're so comfortable with each other. It could be so vulnerable and it just feels easy almost. - Yeah. - And especially, like, I don't know, I can't speak to doing a movie with a partner, but when this started to do well, it is such like a point of pride in their relationship to be like, "We worked on this thing together and look how great, it's almost a separate thing to be proud of." - I'm getting chills. You talking about that? Because it's one of these things where-- - You really getting chills? - I swear to God. - Okay. - I'm not an abelisher. - Okay. - But like, truly, it is this thing now. We look back at it where we would have been proud of it regardless. But this was this tiny movie that we helped rip off the ground.
And we made this tiny three million dollar movie and we made it a thing and we were in how you know thousands of theaters And it became this thing and it's just like we can always point to that and be like what a special time in our lives Yeah, you know me and Andrew are working on a movie. Oh, I like that Santino and We we we're do we get just as a side because we love acting and so we decided you know We're not gonna get paid for this. Yeah, yeah, yeah We want to do it for the love. Yeah, so the money goes into other thing Yeah, we literally put our feet back into the movie together to make sure it was all on screen Wow, yeah, yeah, and I've done that multiple times recently. It makes your money back We did on that one, but that's very rare. Yeah, it's like one out of 50. Yeah, are you scared about what? That's just a transition existential question I've guns loaded dude. Yeah, bullets in there. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean that question was after poo. Yeah, yeah, yeah scared of what they're called bullets So are you scared of There's because the business is changing so drunk. Oh, okay. It's so drastic. Yeah, you know, are you scared of the emergence of a eye and also that you just Practical sense of like, you know You know how many movies get accepted into Sundance versus what's submitted and then like a quarter of those get picked up by Distributors, right? So then you have hundreds of films that no one gets to see will ever see well What's crazy is when I was so we we premiered together at Sundance that same year I had another movie there that premiered that didn't get distribution So I really saw both sides of the spectrum Wow, and it's fucked up because that other movie is good and like that director of this other movie He, you know, he poured his heart and so on to this movie and genuinely made a solid movie and then he gets it into Sundance It's premiering at the biggest theater at Sundance and then no one buys it and so yes this is what happens in that situation What I think should happen is I think the streamer should fucking start that where their whole thing is picking up these Orphaned movies that like just need a home and like these these directors would be like yeah, take it for free I just want it out there. I think there's to be a streamer for these orphan movies dude. That's why don't you start that is too much stuff to too much to do I mean that sounds like a really good. No. Yeah But sounds like yeah, that sounds like a really good thing because there's probably a lot of movies that are solid that are solid Good right and like there was one one that came out called buffet infinity. Oh, yeah, you never saw it No, you told me all you made us watch the trailer and you gave us a whole hour's spiel on it Yeah, yeah, and it was a solid movie and it's is you can't find it anywhere. No, it's out. Oh, yeah, okay You you so this movie is the poster doesn't tell me much The best poster yeah, yeah, yeah, so let me tell you this movie, okay, this movie is played all in commercials Oh, okay, I like that idea. I like that idea. It's all played in all in commercials, right and it's a local No, the commercial the trailer is not gonna give you much, so don't let me just explain it. Oh, yeah, so take the trailer off that it's a chair But there's a story happening within from commercial to commercial so it's a local town in Canada, okay All right, it's local commercials. Okay. Okay, I like right and in the beginning It's is I don't know if I have the right word innocuous. What does that word mean? It's kind of neither You can't pin it down. You can't put it down the average, you know, I guess commercials that you would see yeah from a local TV station Yeah, yeah, right local businesses. Yeah, right and they seem pretty normal the whole story is told by just commercial I love that. I like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and then the commercials get weirder and we're that's cool You realize that buffet affinity, which is a buffet. Don't give away the ending. I'm not gonna give it away Okay, is gobbling up all their stores. Okay, all right. There's a sinkhole in the back of this mini Anyway, it's told based on just see that's clever. That's an experience clever. Yeah, and it got distribution because of its Originality and stuff like that. So there so what happens so these movies you're saying that don't get distributors Yes, they just sit in a room somewhere and no one ever gets to see them potentially. Yeah, why don't we just put it on YouTube that yeah, maybe I honestly don't know enough to know if you can do that I'm sure you can but I got to imagine the the finance years who put in the money to make those movies They still want to get some return even if it's been years that their movies been sitting on a shelf I don't think they're going to be down with you just putting it on on YouTube. It sucks. It sucks Anyway to answer to answer your bigger question about if I'm scared Everything you're saying is true. It's like things are really shifting. It's harder to make movies now than ever I guess I try not to I try not to get bogged down by that It's like for the last 10 years or so. I just decided. I'm like okay No one's gonna hand me anything no matter what I'm doing even if I am in a big movie Usually that doesn't even lead to that many more crazy opportunities at least not things that I want to do like the things I want to do I'm still gonna have to fight for and so I decided okay when to take things in my own hands I'm gonna start writing I'm gonna start producing I'm gonna pair up with people who I know who are writers and directors and be like let's figure something out together And it's a lot of fucking work because sometimes a lot of times you'll write a whole script You put together a whole package all your friends good people and then you don't sell it and you feel like oh fuck That was a huge waste of time, but I never look at it that way. I was just like hey we tried This was something we were excited about we put good energy into it. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't But when it does like with together like with this new movie idiots that I have coming out Let me tell you how this came about I work with Mason things With it called Nimrods there we go. Yes. Yeah, and I spent a couple of weeks with him in Oklahoma nice kid we guys so talented Oh, yeah, and Men as family. Yeah, they're yeah, we would have hamburgers together love it. Yeah, and he's a talented. He's the next thing I really is I really do believe that I did movies in a row with Mason. Yeah, and so Okay, so this movie came about basically I was talking to this writer director 10 years ago about this I had seen a movie that he did called I don't feel at home in this world anymore if you haven't seen that that's on Netflix It's fucking awesome. I don't feel at home in this world anymore So this so after I saw that movie I reached out to him I said what else you got? I would love to work with you He sent me the script for this and at the time I was actually too young to play this role So I was like all right not meant to be let's walk away. So like eight years past so let me you know Let's say two years ago. I reached out and I was like all right. Hey man. I'm old now. I can do the part Let's fucking go whatever happened with that project and he said oh we got close it fell apart and I said okay No pressure, but I'm here if I can help in any way. Wow, let's go and so he came back to me a little bit later He said you know what let's let's attach you as an actor and a producer Let's go try to find the money and so I just worked with Oshay a few years earlier Oshay Jackson Jr. Yeah, and like I said, I just worked with Mason Thames earlier that year on what on this movie called regretting you a very Weepy drama. Okay, very different thing I cry a little here's a shed So anyway, I was like let me bring in my guys and now we have this team Let's let's go out and try to sell it and we got the money and we didn't get a ton But we got just enough and again like when you believe in something you put your own money back into it I took as the least amount of money. I could as an actor put my producer fee back into the movie Wow, and then this thing again, you're hustling every day You're sprinting but you're surrounded by people you know and love and we had the greatest time in this movie fucking It's it's awesome. Yeah, look sick. Yeah, um, how long did it take to develop this thing? I'm from like when I came on to it. Yeah, the second time you came on to it. We probably from the time I came on to the time we were shooting. Yeah Maybe like let's say six to nine months. Wow, that's quick. It's a pretty quick turn around. That's quick. Yeah Wow Congratulations. Thanks dude. Thanks dude. Can you give us just the premise of it or no? Yeah, oh, yeah So okay, so me me and Oshay were two two shitheads who were down on their luck And we get paired up to drive this rich teen to rehab and What we don't realize is you sober in this definitely not none of us fucked up most this movie So no, yeah, we're the last people you want driving your fucking kid to yeah because that is it because I know friends of mine because I'm sober Yeah, sober companion. Yeah, sober companions. I do this. Yes, and I know a guy that does rich people. Oh wow Yeah, yeah, right. So he gets flown first class, and he just has to look over you know me. Yes, you know a Rockefeller's kid or whatever So the twist is the twist a Rothschild. Whatever you want, you know me. Yeah, yeah, is that like yes, you're like oh god We don't I don't want these two fuck-ups driving this kid and the twist is the kids way more psychotic than us So it's fucked up. Yeah everything for us on the way. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it's like it's got kind of you know old school Like hangover pineapple express that type of vibe Totally I had one line in that movie which one final blocks from give us the line. You remember it That's cool or something Tell me on it sell it. Give it to me. That's how I said perform it. That's how I said let me hear it again I wasn't ready for it. I forgot all of my line was like that's do it. I don't know It was you and Ken right? It was being Ken. Yeah, anyway, um Wow, that looks cool. When does it come out August 28th in theaters? Yes, that's great. Yeah, yeah, and here's the thing too about
about these smaller movies when you land at these indie distributors. That's Nicholas Braun. Have you guys seen Succession? - Oh yeah. - Yes, great. - That's Cousin Greg right there. - Wow. - So excited. - It's the most opposite character of Cousin Greg you've ever seen, and he absolutely kills it. He plays a character, a rapper named Prickabush Deweyre Wolf. - Yeah. (laughing) - That's amazing. You scoot up a little bit of the names in there. Did you audition Peter Dinklett? - Absolutely not. Oh, offer, come on. - What, are there other? - Yeah, we got Kiernan Shipgood. - You look so cool, I love her. - Maybe a little auditioning process. - Hey, when there's a part, you're gonna get. (laughing) - You're gonna get a Prickabush? - Prickabush Bob. - Prickabush Bob. - You got that. - Give me your audition for Prickabush right now. (laughing) - It's like a rapper. - It's what a great cast. - It's such a good cast. - Yeah. - We got Kiernan Shipgood, you know her? - Yeah. - Oh yeah. - She's from Mad Man. - Exactly. - And with your wife. - Exactly. - Yeah. - Wow. - She's incredible in this. - So these are friends. - Did you know Peter before? - No, but our director did. - Okay. - With them. - Yes. - Yeah, that's amazing. - Yeah, yeah. - That's what a great cast. - Oh, what I was gonna say is with these smaller movies when you end up at an indie distributor, it's like those indie distributors, they don't have a ton of money to promote your movie. That's just the way it is. So you're not gonna be on a bunch of TV spots. Like it's really about social media and getting the word out that way. And so I've really taken it upon myself in recent years, especially if I'm a producer on something and I really believe in something, I fucking get in there with marketing and I bring in like these editors I know and these poster guys I know who I know are gonna really put a, like make, go above and beyond to make these things really fucking hit. And when they do, like when you have a good trailer, you guys to check out our teaser trailer. Like in a teaser trailer right now. - Check it out in a real way. - In a real way. - Because it is the most beautifully edited, just like unique trailer you've seen in a long time. And when you have something like that for a smaller movie, we have now gone from, I won't even say the number of theaters, but the initial number of theaters they promised us, we've now doubled it because of how people respond to it. - Wow, that's amazing. - Yeah, it looks really cool. - Yeah, in a smaller movie like this, I just wanna get into the like technical aspect of it, right? You're shooting where? - We shot in Atlanta. - Atlanta, Georgia. - Yeah. - Right, does the actors get nice hotels? - You know, you get a stipend. You get a certain amount of money and you can either, you know, they can put you up in a hotel where they put up a lot of people or what I normally do if I'm somewhere for months, I want my own space. So I'll get just like-- - Air beer, beer. - Yeah, yeah. - And air beer and beer. - And I know how much money I have to spend. And it's not a big place. - Yeah, yeah, okay. - It is what it is. - I'm always curious. - Yeah. - Like, you know, when I'm at the, you know, five in the morning van pickup, sure, right? - Yeah. - And then we gotta go to a different hotel to pick up the other actor. - Oh, oh. - Right? - Yeah. - And then you realize that you were in the shit of your hotel. (laughing) - You know what I mean? - Yeah. - I have more credits than this person. - I get that. - Yeah, yeah. And then why are these things at the-- - I know. - I know. - I mean, I'm at this, like, little tiny thing. - Yeah. - So I get a little mad about that. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - If you're gonna put people, all the actors, put them in the same hotel. - Yeah. - It's a contractual thing. - It's my contract. You gotta fire that one. - Yeah. - You gotta fire that up in the contract. - Yeah. - I see, I see, I see, I see. Okay. 'Cause I'm about to shoot a small movie just four days. - Okay, is this one with Andrew? - No. - What is that one with Andrew, can you talk about it? - No, I can't. - Oh. - Have you guys acted together before? - No, we haven't. - No, we haven't. - Were you guys together, did you say in goat? - Yeah, we done that. - But were you guys in the booth together? - Yes. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah. - Well, it's him saying you're saying it wrong. - What do you mean? - Every lion's saying you're saying it wrong. - Okay, that's still a back and forth. - There's no forth. - There's no forth. - Yeah, you're literally there just making noise. - No, there's forth, there's no back. - Well, what are you saying when he said you're saying it wrong? - Oh, okay. - Yeah. - Yeah. - But I don't give him notes. - I don't understand. - He's talking about actual notes. The Andrew gives him notes because his voice over work is not that good. - I hear what you're saying. - I don't know. - I don't know. - I thought you're saying those are the literal lines from the movie. - He was confused to get those with the lines. - Oh, oh, oh. - Oh, you're saying you're dynamic when you're acting together. - No, no, no, no, no, no, no. What you're saying, what you're trying to cause, rift, and what I'm saying is, is that at time, not you, - Yeah. - I'm trying to understand that. - I understand. - But what I'm saying is that I thought I said it right, and he goes, but then it was always an improvement. - Oh, right. - Do you think he helped in a way? Like, was he directed you in a good way? - I did, in every way. - Oh, in every way. - Well, that's nice. - Yeah, but I had no notes for him. - That's so good. - That's okay. - Yeah. - That's a good friend, actually, where he's just like, I love him. - Yeah. - Yeah, I'm just saying. - But, did you feel comfortable with him when you were going back and forth in like an acting way? - He's, I'll tell you this. - Okay. - Okay. - 'Cause we're both stand-up comedians. - Of course. - Of course. - I'm giving you props. I'm like, yeah, this is an obvious, like audition is a great horror movie. - Yeah. - We both have our feet in the acting or some in the podcast, we're in some in the stand-up world, right? We do mixed media. - Okay. - And, but out of all the comics that I know, he's probably, I think Gillis is really good at acting, but I think that he's like that top of the tier. - I agree. - I agree. - I think he's a top of the tier actor. - I love Dave, so Dave. - Yeah, he's a great actor. And so I trust him in terms of those types of things. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. - If it was Theo, I'd be like, now I'm gonna say it my way. - Interesting. - Yeah. - Okay, okay. - But when is this movie that you're doing with him, is it, are you number one or two on the college sheet? - He'll be number one. - Okay, would it be number two? - If I'm not, I will, there'll be problems. - Did you say earlier that you've never been top five on the college sheet? - Yeah, this, we don't even have financing. We're working on the sprint now, Dave Jesus. - We're in the beginning. We don't have, it's the connections. - This guy's saying he wants to be top five on telling him more, and he screams on my part. - I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. - If I came off a little abrasive, I'm sorry. - That's okay. - Bobby, if the podcast ended now, and I left the room, would you say that I was attacking you? (laughing) - Oh no. - Would you say that I was gonna be a nice guy that you were projecting something on me? - Could I be completely honest with you? - Please. It went 30 times better than I ever thought it would go with you. - Okay, well that's, I mean, low expectations. - Yeah, I know, but. - No, because with actors, sometimes you don't know. - Okay, okay. - Because they don't want to add information. - They don't want to have fun. - Yeah, they don't have fun. They're one word answers. We've got those situations where it's tough. - Okay, okay. - Right, so it's like, you know. - What is it? Is it too earnest? Is it like trying to stick to the talking points too much? - Yeah, they're not, they're just not down to get silly. - Okay, and here's a lot of surprising things about this podcast, what we've done, right? - You have comedic skills, right? Your timing is excellent, right? You know how to add information. And you're just a great person. You can just tell you're a great guy. - Thanks, dear, I mean, so it was so much easier for me than I thought it was going to be. - Okay, okay. - Right, in fact, it flowed like you were, you know, Theo or Tom Cigar, or whoever. Like, I don't know if you know, but I was basically kind of coming in to be a new host on the show. (laughing) How do I do that? - Yeah, yeah. You know, another thing would be is that, you know, you're a podcaster, you're good at media. - Well, can I pitch something? - Yeah, please, please don't. - Because I don't want you to get rejected. - No, no, no. I think that you were the co-host thing. I think that you guys should do a specifically horror movie podcast. - Oh, interesting. - Yeah, yeah, one day. - Yeah, one day. - Because you are such a horror movie free, you know, all of them. That's my pitch, guys. - Here's, yeah, yeah, yeah. Have you and Allison thought about doing a pause together? You know, it's crossed my mind. And mainly because as you can now see, like I do ask a lot of questions. Like my friends make fun of me for it. And like when I'm meeting new people, I ask a lot of questions and people are like, they make fun of me. I'm like, how do you get to know someone if you're not fucking asking questions? But anyway, it has, because of that, I do think about doing a podcast because I am genuinely curious. But I also know, and I'm sure you guys can tell me, it's a full-time job. Like this is not a full-time job. - Interesting. - It's not a full-time job. - But I feel like you can't half-ass this. - It's not a full-time job for me. - Good. (laughing) - I just feel like-- - It's a half-time job. - I know myself, but I know that I would want to give it everything I have, and it just might take too much time right now for me. - Well, you do it once a week. - Okay, you know what I mean? - You can't miss weeks. - Right, right. I mean, you did tell me you just rolled out about it right before I came. - I know. I do no research. - Huh, do you do anything? Once this episode's done, do you do anything in post? - I do ads. - Okay. - Yeah. - How long does that take? - 15 minutes. - 15 minutes. - Okay. - 15 minutes. - And then, and then is that it for you? - Yeah. - Yeah, why is it interesting? - Because that is not a ton of work. - It's not a lot of ton of work. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Do you ever, do you ever go in and be like, "Hey, ooh, I don't know if that's not a right, I want to look back at this episode." - I've never seen any Tiger Bell episode in my life. - Oh, shit. - I've never seen any of that in this episode. - You know what, props to you guys. - Yeah, yeah. - Fucking cutting all that together and doing all this stuff. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Sure. - Do you give them enough props? - I think I do. (laughing) - I think I do. - I'm not putting you in the freezer, not putting the name in the-- - Yeah, I think I do. I think I do. I think I do. - Do you get like clips come up on your phone though of your own stuff? - You've never seen someone swipe faster. - Oh, really? - Yeah. I don't read comments. I don't read what people think of it. - You know something you've been in that I loved and you were great in. - What? - You're old in Kumar. - People say that a lot. - You're fucking great in that movie. - Thank you. - We rewatched that recently. - Oh, thank you. - You were one of the funniest parts of a very funny movie. - Thank you so much. Did you enjoy doing that? - It was my first movie. - Really? - Yeah, so I was really nervous. I think it shows the performance. - I was gonna say it almost like helps the--
it almost helps it. Yeah, yeah, because I was super excited in it, but also nervous. Yeah. And I'm supposed to be nervous around John's character and Harold and Harold. And so, you know, that's a funny question because there, there I am. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I was a young man. Yeah. But the reason one of that happened was because I was, I read for Harold. Okay. Right. And John got it. Yeah. And John told the people saying, you got to give him something. Did you guys know each other before him? During the auditioning process, yes, because they would, they would bring in two heralds and two kukumars. You guys auditioned in front of each other playing the same role? No, they would, we would be in the same room and they would switch back and forth and combine them and then he got it. Got it. Got it. Okay. It's a better actor. But, you know, I mean, what are we going to do? You know what though? Him recognizing like, hey, this guy's got something. I love John more than, I love, you know, he's not a betrayer. Yeah. Yeah. Me, you know, um, nice way to say that he's a loyal guy. He's a loyal guy. They both need the same thing. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I like to throw, I would like to throw some names out there. Who are betrayers? That we're not a betrayer. Oh, yeah. Yeah. They're all loyal people. Give us some name. Alley Wong. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Not a betrayer. Okay. Who else? You can be a yang. Okay. Yeah. Ronnie Chang. I would be not a betrayer. I'm not surprised by all these. They seem like non betrayers. Yeah. So, Joe Koei, not a betrayer. Okay. Cool. You know, what? Joy, Joe Koyzen. What? Forgotten Island. September 25th. Let's go, baby. Let's go, baby. So watch Forgotten Island as well. Yeah. Blood. Blood. Anyway. Double. I'll do a second plug in, baby. How did you feel being on this being on this? Yeah. I love it. It was flowing, right? It's flowing. Flow state. Flow state. But also, unlike you, I knew it was going to flow state because, but, but, but, that's because, you know why? Why? Because I had the opportunity to listen to this and know the vibe. And I guess you did have the opportunity to watch my movies and my interviews or whatnot, but you didn't. I'm kidding. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm kidding. You seem serious. You seem serious. I don't seem serious because I want to. I kind of knew the energy to expect. And I was like, oh, this is an energy I can have fun with. And like, it's, it's one of my favorite kind of energies. Like, let's fucking, you know, let's, let's go from Braveheart to the mall in, in like 90. Well, there's so much. And yeah, have like 40 stops in between. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just said Shay Shay. Oh, you did club Shay Shay. Yeah. What? Oh my god. I think it was fun. Yeah. It went three hours long. Yeah. So we're not going to do that here. But here's what I'm going to do. Okay. Okay. Okay. Is from now on, right? If you have any big movie, a movie, yes, that you want to promote. Yes. Every year, come back on. Amazing. Yeah. And you're right before forgot night. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Come back on. Maybe with Liza. That'll be fun. I love her. That'll be fun. Yeah. Yeah. So who's Liza? So Burrano. She's like, oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. One of the arms in the poster. The arms of the party. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We got to get the arm in. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I like to get both. But you know, if we only get one, you know, who's the other arm? Who? Do you know the musician? Her? Yes. Yes. Awesome. Yeah. Yes. She's the other arm. Okay. I know her. Yeah. Yeah. So give Dave a round of applause. Alright.
