Daniel Jeremiah on If Elite Mahomes Is Back, QBs Trending Up & Down, Plus Trinidad Chambliss in the NFL
86m 40s
The episode features a deep dive into early NFL and college football performances, with a focus on quarterback development and team dynamics. Daniel Jeremiah evaluates Patrick Mahomes’ resurgence with the Chiefs, noting improved run game execution and consistent play, while questioning the depth and roles of key receivers like Kelsey and Rice. On the other hand, Bryce Young is highlighted as a strong performer due to better offensive alignment and team chemistry, despite other quarterbacks like Stroud and Drake showing inconsistent starts. The Chargers are heavily criticized for defensive chaos, overly complex schemes, and coverage breakdowns, raising concerns about their overall effectiveness. A key contrast is drawn between college and NFL teams’ reactions to early losses, with college teams showing more urgency. The episode also notes a significant rise in the use of 13-personnel offenses, particularly with the Rams, who are using it effectively to exploit matchups and create explosive plays. Additionally, DK Metcalf's poor performance is flagged as a major issue for the Eagles’ offense. The discussion emphasizes that early results should not be overinterpreted, and long-term player development and team cohesion are more telling than initial stats. The podcast also promotes Hertz as a travel partner and DraftKings as a platform for fans to follow the games, with promotional details on rewards and app availability. Overall, the analysis underscores the importance of consistency, trust in coaching, and fundamental execution in shaping a team’s season.

What's up, man?
Good to see you.
Thank you for that, dude.
It's great to see you, man.
How you doing?
Just excellent.
Every day gets better than the previous day.
So that's just what's going on in my world.
I was listening.
I was listening to your most recent pod.
I love that you started with the Mahomes stuff.
There's a lot of breakdown.
A lot of things we want to get to here.
So we'll do some NFL, some college on the back of it.
I feel like more people should be talking about this.
I still think it's one of the strangest things ever.
We can talk about the way defenses have been played in Mahomes
and the lack of personnel in the receiving game, the whole thing.
And I'm just like, there's no way that he's never going to have those years.
Like, I can't fathom that he's not going to have a couple seasons
that look like the seasons from five years ago.
From what you've seen,
you've seen from this offense,
are we going to be treated to maybe one of those elite Mahomes seasons?
Which, again, I don't know what that means for the Chiefs,
but it would probably mean a return to the playoffs.
I think if Kenneth Walker stays healthy, we are.
I mean, they just went out and established the run the first week.
They play with an extra offensive lineman.
They play with a defensive lineman in the backfield.
And it's like, okay, we're actually going to stay committed to this thing.
We're going to scare you out of all the shell coverage
that we've seen for the last handful of years.
Get you in single high where they get more favorable looks.
And they're still popping explosive runs off of that.
So it's like, man, you know, this is not a fake run game here.
This is real.
And they're not only getting, you know, on schedule,
they're popping explosives.
And now, you know, the rest of the passing game comes into play.
And there's more space.
And they've got, you know, a chance to hit big plays.
And the other thing I thought watching it is,
you're seeing guys kind of settle into their roles.
Didn't really know who was what.
You know, you had Kelsey kind of doing his thing.
But outside of that, like,
who's your vertical receiver?
Who's working underneath?
Now they kind of have guys in those roles where they're comfortable.
And it's not like Mahomes, you know, skill set has eroded at all.
I mean, he still throws the heck out of it.
Yep.
I've loved watching him the last two weeks on offense.
I have.
And I hope this is real.
Because I don't want, I don't know.
I just want the Chiefs involved.
What would your reservation be?
What would you like if you're going to say you're worried that it isn't real?
That there's not a number one here.
You know, I think Rice is hit or miss.
I think generally Rice is disappointing.
I mean, I'm not even talking about the stuff that's disappointing.
It's off the field on top of everything else.
But based on that, I think Worthy's limited.
I think Thornton, there's always been a bit of a disconnect there.
I think Kelsey will look older later in the season.
And I know that they've, you know, Noah Gray's not a bad number two tight end at all.
I think the offensive line, like, it was just such a mess.
You know, it was such a mess last year where it was like, all right,
Patrick, just save us every single one of these.
I mean, it's not shocking that he got hurt because you'd watch those games being like,
what, like, this isn't, there's no way.
And then when he gets hurt, you're like, well, that was, that was fairly obvious.
So maybe it's, maybe it's a weapons personnel thing outside of Walker.
But like, I'm with you.
And I was listening to what you're saying.
Like, this is, Mahomes is young enough that there's supposed to be another stretch where
it's like, okay, these guys are filthy again.
And I want to see it.
I think it's fun.
You know, I want a huge third.
Third down in the AFC championship game where it's Mahomes and third and nine.
And you like, you know, that was always my thing with him.
They had a third and 12 against the Colts.
And I was like, hey, this is, we're back.
I'm like, I think they still have a good chance.
Yeah.
And a lot of times, and he did it against the Chargers a bunch when I was in the stadium
where it would be, he'd have one conversion late in the game, a third and seven plus,
even all the way up to, I think at one point in time, it was like third and 14 or third
and 16.
And he got it with his legs.
So, I mean, just.
Take off and you're going to play so, you're going to play so coverage heavy and be so
worried down the field and he would just make you pay with his legs.
And he's, you know, coming off that injury, he's moving really well and he's able to get
those free yards that way.
Of all the things you said, I think the one that maybe I would keep my eye on the most
is the Kelsey thing, because I think if Kelsey could maintain what he's doing now, that's
the key to the whole thing, because that's your third and six, someone who can still
win off what we've seen early.
There's a little more quickness than what we saw.
Last year, I don't know if he's in better shape, healthier or, or whatever it is, but
that's one, the one matchup I feel good about.
We're kind of knowing where it's going and you could still, you could still utilize him
and get him the ball.
So of all those things, that would be the one I would keep an eye on.
And he's looked great.
He's looked great in those short yardage situations, making somebody miss on the tight end or excuse
me, on the touchdown last week, you know, there was just a moment there where it was
like, okay, maybe this is a little crisper than the start of last season, I think, or
was it?
Was it two seasons ago where you were kind of like, I think it was a little sluggish.
You just, I remember, I remember talking to somebody in their personnel department in
the press box during a Chargers Chiefs game.
And I'm like, man, I remember when you guys were the fastest team in the league and you
guys look so slow, like the whole team just looks slow.
And, uh, man, that hasn't looked like that at all through two weeks.
No.
All right.
Let's, uh, let's talk about this, this group of guys that may have helped or hurt their
cause because coming in, you know, we had a CJ conversation about the contract.
You've got a brother.
Bryce, uh, Bryce Young conversation, Jaden Daniels as well, who unfortunately is hurt
again.
Let's start with Bryce because I would say, Hey, the division stunk last year.
Yes.
They made the playoffs.
Um, that gets baked into this idea that like Bryce has turned a corner.
If you look at any of the EPA stuff, you can look at just some of the traditional stuff.
It's like, look, he's still a bottom third quarterback.
Do you feel differently about that two weeks into this season?
I would, I would say three weeks.
Cause I'll count the playoff games, you know, if Stafford doesn't have that comeback,
I mean, I can say there's an alternate universe where, you know, he's viewed as having had
the comeback win over the Rams in the playoffs.
That's a major milestone for him.
And then you, you know, maybe there's a deal that gets done.
I know they talked about it.
It's not like he didn't offer him something.
It just wasn't a number that he felt good about, but maybe they get a deal done last
off season just off of that when Matthew Stafford changed that.
So you have that game, which was a positive.
And then you come in to start the year.
They're literally one of the three best offenses in the NFL right now.
And I think it's what, like the Chiefs, the Bills.
And the Panthers, like, so they're taking steps.
And I think that, you know, with him, it's, it's, I think he is what he is.
Like I, he does, he does things really well in terms of, you know, maneuvering inside
the pocket.
He's, he's got a really good feel for buying a little extra time in there.
He's incredibly accurate.
Those are the things that you saw at Alabama.
But he's dependent.
He's going to be dependent on having the pieces in the weaponry around him.
And I think they've done a good job.
They've, they've not only drafted well and they've developed well, but Coker's
a really good player.
McMillan has been a really, really good solid player for him.
Now you've got Waller's jumped in there and shown he's still got a little
something left.
So they've put really good pieces around him.
And then he's just kind of doing the point guard thing.
And I think that's, I think that's a, I think it's a winning football formula.
And I, I, if you were asking me who's helped themselves more, I'd said there
was 11 candidates for extensions this year.
The most that we've seen in a decade plus, maybe ever of contracts that were
on the line this year.
this year to be done in the off season.
Baker already got taken care of, so that wiped one off, so there's 10.
I'd make a strong case that Bryce Young has helped himself
through two weeks more than any of the other nine guys.
Does Baker drive you crazy?
It's just a roller coaster.
I'm a believer from a scouting side that some of your personality
shows up in your play, and there's the hope that you kind of just mature
as a player on the field, and I thought he had reached that point.
But he's too loose with the ball.
It's one of the things I praised Drew Locke at
for when he stepped in for these two games.
I thought he's shown some maturity in his play
and not trying to do too much, and Baker's kind of fallen back
into some of those habits through a couple weeks.
Who else has helped themselves a lot?
Because I like this on some of the contract extension stuff
because I obviously think there's probably two other quarterbacks
we should touch on.
Well, I mean, I'm thinking more like,
gosh, good thing you got the deal done with Brock Purdy when you did
because he's kind of jumped up and leveled up.
So good for him getting that accomplished.
Of the other guys that were up, I mean, gosh, I'm trying to run through.
So Caleb's hurt.
Jaden's hurt.
Drake has not had a great start.
Bo Nix has been one good, one bad.
So that's been kind of a mixed bag.
Stroud, he's thrown for a ton of yards, just haven't won games.
Thankfully, their division stinks.
I was trying to – I was looking at it.
Last year, they were 0-3, and then they go to the playoffs.
And I'm like, okay, they start out cold again this year.
And then you look at the rest of the divisions, 1-7.
So no harm, no foul.
And it's also like we don't do a very good job after the first two weeks
of like going, okay, but if this team were 7-4
and then had Buffalo and Cincinnati back-to-back weeks.
Just in the middle of the season.
Right.
And then when 0-2, you'd be like, oh, you know, they need to get right.
It's a human nature, which I totally understand.
But there's too many –
There's too many times with 0-2 starts, we don't look at the schedule.
I mean, I know no one in Houston goes, like, are you serious?
Like we had the Josh Allen show come in here, and we hung in there.
And then apparently Cincinnati's going on defense,
which I think the returns are.
I know that Tampa game was a little weird,
but I just think we should do a better job of going like, hey.
And to the top of everything else.
17 games, man.
Yeah, and on top of everything else with the division thing.
Maybe this is me being like, I'm just reluctant to give up on Houston
because I think eventually, like, in a way that we talked about at home,
it's not at the same level.
Like, there's no way Stroud just sucks, right?
I just – as bad as it was in the playoffs,
like, I just refuse to believe that he sucks.
And I've kind of liked what I've seen from him,
and I imagine this defense is going to get right,
and the schedule's going to have a stretch where, like,
oh, hey, Houston turned it around.
Like, they might have been the exact same team.
They just weren't playing Buffalo and Cincinnati to start the season.
Yeah, I had tweeted something out about this
because you're talking to friends in the college world,
and then I'm talking to my buddies around the league,
and it's such a drastic difference.
Like, when you talk to people in the college space,
and, like, Oregon loses to Oakland,
Oklahoma State, and it's like, oh, my gosh.
Like, I mean, we might suck.
Like, we're just – it's a major concern.
We didn't look good against Boise.
We lose to Oklahoma State.
Like, our season's, like, going up in flames.
And then you talk to teams that are 0-2,
and they're like, yeah, we're just kind of feeling our way through,
kind of finding what works and what doesn't work.
It's just like a – it's a total different level of urgency
in those two sports.
All right, so let's talk a little bit more about Stroud then.
Yeah.
Like, how would you feel about having to do the $60 million average extension,
which is probably what it's going to be
if he has a decent season after this year?
Yeah, I mean, ideally, you'd love to see a step taken in the postseason,
but I think that's going to be fake leverage
that the team will try and use if we want to see, you know,
this, you know, move forward once we get into big games
and into the playoffs.
But at the end of the day, it's a bluff because you're going to pay him.
Like, there's just going to be, you know,
there's nothing.
There's not another alternative.
They're going to win, you know, enough games.
They're not going to be in range to get what's going to be perceived
as one of the top guys, and he's going to be much better
than the other options that you're staring at.
And then you're going to also sit down and say,
okay, we know where the numbers are now, and this happens all the time,
but if you project out and go, okay, what happens when Josh gets his next one?
Dak's number's so big, they're going to have to redo that
to kind of, you know, get that back in line with the salary cap
and to be a little more comfortable there.
There's such massive deals that are going to happen.
They're going to dwarf whatever you feel uncomfortable giving C.J. Stroud
that you're just going to give it to him.
Yep.
I don't think we need to add anything else to that.
There's something for everyone when it comes to Reese's.
Reese's is, in fact, the standard.
Those peanut butter cups.
As soon as you see them, you know.
I think there's times where people see them in a bowl around the holidays
and they go, I may not normally do this, but I'm doing it right now
because you know when you unwrap it, you know exactly
what you're getting.
Which is, in NFL terms, exactly what you're getting
when you're getting prime Patrick Mahomes.
Delivering to everybody.
Spraying it around.
Handing them out like Reese's minis.
I think he could get a spiral with a Reese's minis.
I don't think it'd be hard for Patrick Mahomes whatsoever.
But that's the whole point, is that you know exactly what you're signing up for,
whether it is third down or the beautiful marriage
of chocolate and peanut butter on that first bite.
Reese's.
The official candy partner of Barstool Sports.
Go get Reese's wherever you shop.
Between new defensive units back there,
maybe we can kind of stay in this for a little bit,
kind of units that you've gone, hey, this surprised me in a good way,
this surprised me in a bad way, so feel free to plug in whatever
any of that stuff is, but you know, revamp Dallas defense,
new DC, the whole thing.
How would you compare your expectations of what you've seen from Dallas
through two weeks to, say, Cincinnati, who overhauled a ton of things
as well?
And maybe I'm putting too much on the Houston game and not the Tampa one,
but like watching that full Cincinnati game against the Texans, I was like,
all right, you know, this actually may be one of those times free agency
offseason where they were able to put together something because clearly
anything different would have been better than what Cincinnati was running
out there last year.
Yeah, I'm I'll start with Cincinnati.
It's it is really different and it's different because you have a unicorn
player.
You know, Dexter, I don't know what he weighs, Ryan.
He looks like 400 pounds.
He maybe he's 370.
He looks enormous.
He's enormous out there and he's playing a bunch of snaps.
I went through this last week.
I think he played 52 snaps going through and watching it and you cannot move him.
He can stack double teams.
He doesn't move an inch and then you try and run, okay, we got a big kind of clog in the
middle.
Let's just let's get him moving laterally and let's run some outside zone and he just
beats the cutoff blocks, gets tackle for loss, can't block him there and then as a pass rusher,
you know, it's five times in a row where he puts his hands in your chest and just walks
back to the quarterback and then you brace for that and all of a sudden he's somehow
miraculously at that size as like a little slap swim move and he just beat you with his
quickness and I started thinking like, you know, I was around Hello D with the with the
Ravens just a rare big guy at 350 pounds.
Will Fork was one of those guys.
I thought there was a stretch of maybe a brief stretch like two or three years for Sean Rogers
was one of those where you just this guy's a nightmare and they're literally Chargers
had one of those guys.
I think Jamal Williams was a great player.
I played against him in college by the way.
He was at Oklahoma State.
Didn't go well for your guy on that one.
I didn't know it at the time.
It was RW McQuarters.
It was RW McQuarters at corner.
I'm telling you, I'm only living this world for a second.
Two things.
Number one, it was RW McQuarters at corner.
They had Jamal Williams.
I don't know who any of these guys are.
I'm at Northeast Louisiana as a redshirt freshman.
I don't remember if I started.
I know I played the majority of the game, but all I know we lost like I want to say
28 14 something like that.
There's a lot of stories in this game.
We set up a double pass like a screen to the quarterback, right?
So Marty Booker is my wide receiver who played for the Bears.
Marty is a huge arm.
He's a high school quarterback.
So I spit out a little quick screen to him.
The line all comes over in front of me.
It's a throwback.
We're at like the 50.
I mean, I'm walking in the end zone like just walking in the end zone.
I just toilet bullet just the just the worst moment of my athletic career hits me in the
chest.
I just drop it cost myself a receiving touchdown just just killed me.
And then RW McCorders might have taken two punts back for touchdowns in that game.
That's all I can remember.
We need one of these stories to be good.
We need a good ending because whenever we run through some of these players, we're like,
I played against him, played against him.
And then you just go like, I mean, I know you played in college, but we'd be cold terrible.
I beat I threw for 300 yards and we beat Dante Culpepper in a shootout against UCF.
So that's our that's our that was a highlight of my moment.
Then the next week.
I think we played Tim Lester, who was the quarterback at Western Michigan at home.
And it was oddly a very cold game in Louisiana.
And we were all from I'm from San Diego, the rest of our teams from the south.
And we were bundled up hand warmers, long sleeves.
And all those lily white Western Michigan kids came out with no sleeves on and Lester's
out there just like a little tank.
And and we lost.
So that was a tough, tough one.
Okay, well, I like the shootout story.
I'm glad we get to hear that.
And I forgot to like.
They grabbed Miles Murphy of the first round out of Clemson, too, on top of that D line,
which we had some production last year, too.
So they've got guys and then Boye Mafe comes over from Seattle.
They've got they've got pieces in there for for Cincinnati.
The other one that you mentioned, Dallas.
Yeah.
So now let's do Dallas.
Yeah, I love their pieces up front.
And I love Barham at linebacker.
I love kind of that group that they've collected their downs, you know, anxious to see how
they were going to use him.
I went to training camp.
and I got kind of intoxicated by the talk there and looked
at that group and that i guess i just i had i have no peripheral vision apparently i never actually
looked out at the corners to the left and to the right uh when i was there visiting because that
first game i was like oh gosh like they're gonna have a hard time being a great defense that they
can't cover on the outside then they had some coverage bus i'm like i just must have just been
in the uh in the euphoria of that beautiful oxnard you know 106 degree weather uh that day that i was
up there but i left going i just way miscalculated on that being a better defense and then they look
better the second week so um i think there's a limit on how good they can be just because i don't
think they have the dudes on the outside but i mean they don't need to be great we've said that
you know i think everybody's saying that song it's like the offense can be so prolific that
man if they're 14th 17th whatever in defense they're going to be really really good teams
had you ever gone about i mean you know i know the teams that you've worked for in the past
but that is why i want to bring those two teams up kind of at the same time because you go like
look cincinnati if this is right and burrows healthy which i know is a huge if like i thought
that sunday afternoon was just a nice little reminder of what this guy's capable of in a
brutal set of circumstances like he's just i shouldn't maybe frame it that way but that was
a very hard game you know that's kind of like what i took from that it was like this is a game
where there's just so many quarterbacks that are going to have three like they're just going to
have a terrible game in here and he's finding a way and this is why he's
so special and you go okay well if we have that can we just be 15th on defense and then
whatever you think of that which i think you know i think we've updated this whole thing but you know
he's going to put up huge numbers he's nasty if those receivers are right you know i expect more
from cd i with pickens i i know there's going to be a couple weeks in there like is is it happening
but he was so good last year um tight ends good too man yeah ferguson i i think you know there's
something to be said of like
if we know we can pencil ourselves in for like 28 to 31 points like we don't need to hold everybody
under under 24 and do you think that there's teams that are like hey we've invested so much
in our offense let's just try to be average on that side well i think it's almost a play style
more than it is like let's try and be average and that goes back to college you know when when
the college offense is exploded and people can look at that as whether that was the leech
you know kind of coming on the scene or whether that was kiffin and sark at sc and then they kind
of spread around the country but offenses just started exploding and then defenses just became
turnover obsessed like we can't stop any of this stuff there's just it's it's it's impossible so
let's just try and be a little bit more aggressive on our defensive calls and steal a possession or
two and then let's spend the vast majority of our time you know red zone defense and uh and try and
force some field goals instead of touchdowns like that kind of felt like the emphasis changed in
college football where it used to be you know defensive coordinators pride themselves on yards
and then all of a sudden now they're like oh my god we're going to win this game we're going to
just pay attention the next time you hear a defensive coach talk about yards they never
talk about yards they talk about third down red zone that's just the way you have to play now
do you know who has the number one passer rating in the nfl right now not the ubr yeah passer rating
a brock would be my guess he's been so efficient it's a very good guess he's fourth
okay number three is josh allen number two is actually jackson dart pass
a rating i always thought was a little funky you'd be like that's weird um and this is where
drew lock is number one right now well there you go maybe it's not weird to you because you seem
like a drew lock guy yeah he was i pulled up my report on him and i've been all the skill set stuff
was there he was like my 24th player in that draft and i literally talked about the things that needed
to change was he just needs to be you know more mature he's to make you know better decisions
don't be so reckless it was kind of
like a little bit of a you know it just need to be reined in and that's what i've seen through
these two games is i've seen okay he still has the size and the arm strength where he can get
pressure and hang on his back foot and get the ball anywhere that he wants to get it he's a really
gifted thrower he's a good athlete you know it's a basketball background was a big time hooper all
those things but it was just it was too much he was trying to do too much he'd force balls he'd
be reckless and careless and i i thought in that game against the patriots he was better at
understanding the
assignment than drake may was in that game which was we both have really good defenses
this is the type of game that we're in where you know field goals and punts are going to be what
this game's about and just protect the football and what and we'll try and find our way to the
finish line i thought drake tried to go beyond that and it bit the patriots and i thought that
drew lock actually showed a lot of maturity in that game to understand what was required and then
it's a great way to start the next one you go out against the cardinals and you hit a double move on
buddha baker he takes the cheese it's 82 yards and you're off to a good start
to the races but um yeah he's he's always had that ability i don't know how many how many more
games he'd have to play i think sam you know he could be coming back you know this week next week
he's it's not going to be he's at practice as of this taping now yeah yeah so so he's going to be
back soon but my thing my question is and i don't even have the answer to it is how much more of a
sample size would you need to see if you are one of those teams that's in the qb market after this
year to say you know what we'll we'll roll with him and give him a year
it is wild that he basically got one year and that's what happens to a second rounder which
it's there's just not many second round qbs at all um you just take them earlier right and so
he's one of those second round cases which made sense you know nobody was like outraged me like
how is drew lock still available you had him 24th overall so maybe you were a little surprised but
he gets that one year and it's kind of like an even touchdown interception split like 16 15 or
something and then he's still with denver but like that is i mean the sad thing for denver
although it also proves like whatever you think about getting wrong like the russell wilson
trade the contract the money the assets it's it's an across the board f there's no other grade that
you can give that and then it's like well bo nicks were healthy like they might have been in
the super bowl last year so you can get through these disastrous decisions but it's it's kind of
funny like they have drew in the building they kind of give them that second year and then that's
enough even after that third year to be like we need to get through this and we need to get through
this and we need to do something different and go grab an established guy and you're like all
right well this makes sense and i look i give mike sando all the credit in the world because
he was just like this is not they're not trading for russell wilson anymore like this new version
is not it and um you know he was right about that uh speaking of things that are not it
are the chargers just a bad football team man it's been a rough rough watch it was when we
were doing the game last week the stat that i was keeping an eye on was it had been since
seven that they had had consecutive games of 14 or fewer points which that's what happened here
i mean this for the chargers organization for the last 20 years offense has not been a problem
they've been able to score points no matter who the quarterback who the coordinator is
whatever it is they've been offensively able to produce points and it's just it's too much
the way i described it was you know with this system there's you know this system can grow
and evolve and i felt like they were trying to take this system out on the highway
the first two weeks of the season it's like dude we got to drive around the neighborhood a few times
here like let's try and simplify this thing a little bit and there's a long season where we
can build it out but it was like we're going to show you every you know shift in motion and and
formation and and personnel group and and we're going to put it all out there at once and there's
too many snaps where herbert is worried and trying to direct traffic and looking behind him to see
where the back is the back offset is he behind me and then all of a sudden like snapping the ball
thing except for the defense like you have not had a chance to just set your eyes on what they're
doing defensively now there's a there's a swing that he hits to Amorian Hampton where they're
showing blitz off the left side it comes and either Hampton is going to stand and block or
you're going to release him well he's released so there's literally nobody there but Herbert
doesn't get there until he's like he's kind of looking middle looking right and then he's getting
hit and then gets it out to Hampton and it's a good game but like when you're when you're dialed
into what's going on and seeing the field and seeing the picture as soon as that guy comes
Herbert normally is going to see that and just get it right up laid up over him and now we're
getting a 30-yard gain instead of whatever it ends up being a you know eight or ten yard game
so that that to me was just complex doing too much and then defensively you get a new coordinator
and there's just been too many coverage busts and there's no marriage between their rush and
coverage so they're sending
you know
extra rushers but they're playing 15 yards off and Jacoby Brissett and and Kirk Cousins have been
around the block like they they're going to see that stuff coming if you're going to give them
outlets and easy answers that's that's the way they would love to play blitz me and play off
coverage and then I don't have to throw the ball too far down the field and I've got guys wide open
I know the matchup was tough for all at left tackle but I'm just like there's no way
this guy isn't good now like I just yeah I wouldn't
I wouldn't freak out about that just because I've seen Crosby do that to everybody and I think the
fact that Alts first game was against Crosby and he held up really well against him and it was maybe
12 or 15 one-on-one snaps and I'm sure Crosby's such a psycho competitor that that's probably
aided him and uh there was a little extra juice there I mean he drew the he drew the three false
starts which you can equate to the presence of Crosby and that's in in Joe's head you also
equate it to the pre-snap stuff they've got going on and I think that's a good thing because I think
you've got a rookie center um you know how much does that factor into him you know having those
false starts and then obviously the safety is what it is I mean Max just got into his chest and
And he just was in a horrible position,
ended up just grabbing him, and you get a safety.
But, you know, I don't know on those false starts
if that's just Joe Waltz lost it as a player.
As much as it is, he's got a lot going on in his head
with everything going on.
What do you think of New England at Jacksonville?
Because you touched on there a little bit
that you didn't seem to like what you've seen
from Drake May the first couple weeks.
Yeah, I mean, I think getting Travion Henderson
going a little bit is something that gives me
some hope there.
But to me, with Drake, I think that so much
was geared in the offseason, too, to getting AJ in there.
And we never got a chance to see that really take off.
So that was, I'm going to give him some slack on that
of kind of an adjustment period.
Is there anything to like, hey, Jacksonville's at home.
They just went to Denver.
Like, I don't like New England at all in this spot.
Well, I think Jacksonville's really good.
I think that was a terrible matchup for them.
Why?
Well, I just thought you were catching Denver
off of an embarrassing game against Kansas City
where they just got beat up.
And physically, they're good enough where that shouldn't happen.
And I thought you saw a reaction game there.
And I thought offensively, it was neglect of Jalen Waddell.
And that was no way that was going to happen in this game.
And they got him going early.
I mean, one of the things I pointed out
was watching it the previous week
is they have some really good players.
They have some quick hitters designed.
So if you think about like a bubble screen
or a tunnel screen, there's no read.
The ball's going to one player.
You know that when you break the huddle.
And it was Pat Bryant.
They were spitting the ball out
on like a little tunnel screen or bubble screen to Pat Bryant.
I'm like, well, if you're going to do that,
why is that not Jalen Waddell?
Just gets him a free touch.
And then let the guy who's way more dynamic and explosive
have the football in his hands and get going.
I think he had three targets in the Chiefs game.
He had 10 targets in that one.
And there's a deep shot.
Deep shot where he gets held a little bit.
No call.
That could have been another 50, 60 yards.
There's a deep out to Jalen Waddell that Nick's missed.
He was close to having a 200-yard game in that one.
And it felt like off of what happened week one,
Denver's too smart and too well coached
that they were going to make those pivots
and those adjustments.
And they knew the importance of not going on too.
Yeah.
I thought it was the most impressive performance of a,
hey, they look completely different after the half.
And it was pretty clear.
It was like, you got to start taking some of these
one-on-one shots to bow.
And whatever the reluctance was,
at least the messaging got through to them
that it's like, if we're finding the man coverage
one-on-one stuff, just throw it to our guys
over and over and over again.
And they liked those matchups.
It was nice to see the Rams kind of look like the Rams.
So if we stay with Denver in their matchup
to kind of start the season here, no Nakua.
Granted, look, the Giants come in.
People are a little excited.
I know that I was kind of like,
yeah, there's more on this roster I like.
Like, this is better personnel than maybe I was thinking
about.
When I was going through previews and studying
some of the depth charts or teams here.
And then they lose Jackson Dart,
which is not surprising,
but it's not in the Jackson Dart type play.
He just gets crushed.
And then even during the game broadcast,
there's some weird stuff with that, too.
I don't know if it was that the Giants
didn't actually know or whatever.
I just don't understand why teams would be telling
reporters like, hey, it's going to be fine.
It's like, what is that one hour window
where you think you've misled everybody
and how that helps you competitively?
And then now it's like he could be out
for the entire season, whatever.
Doesn't matter.
But the Rams Denver matchup off of the first
two weeks.
Give us some insight.
Yeah.
I mean, first of all, on the Dart thing,
just to go back to that, I'm guessing,
you know, they do that ACL test on the knee.
And I'm guessing once they did the ACL test
and we're like, oh, the ACL is intact.
You can, the doctors know that based off of,
you know, they don't need to go to the MRI.
Most times they can do that by just a stability test.
And I'm guessing what he tore was not the ACL
was something else that put him down for the year.
So that's my guess on the early optimism
that wasn't accurate on the Rams.
Dude, I was, I told you I was going to give you
some 13 personnel nuggets, Ryan.
I know that's why you're excited.
Alert.
13 personnel content.
If you think he's seeing a lot of tight ends
on the field this year, trust me, it's true.
So if you go just, I'll rip through it real quick.
The last 10 years, like, so three tight end,
you know, one back, three tight ends, 13 personnel.
This is the percentage of usage around the league.
If you go back 10 years, we'll work back to front.
4.6%, 3.8, 2.6, 3.8.
3.2, 3.9, 3.0, 4.8, 3.0, 3.4.
This year, 7.9.
If you thought last year it was starting to trend up,
it's more than doubled.
And teams are averaging, gosh,
I think it's 5.4 yards per play on that.
And then if you look at the teams that are doing it
more than 15% of the time,
think about who the office coordinators are
and who these guys are and what their reputation is.
There's five of them.
Cardinals, 15.1%.
Ravens, 15.8.
Bears, 17.9.
Bulls, 30.6.
And the Rams have been in 13 personnel,
42.7% of the snaps.
When they took the Ohio State kid in the second round,
after having Ferguson as their number three tight end. He's not even active.
He's their fifth.
They got five tight ends on their roster, man.
And think about it.
McVay, obviously McVay and LaFleur,
they're connected, so those are two of the top five.
Then you got Ben Johnson.
And his coordinator, Declan Doyle, is with the Ravens.
So if I was going to ask you the three,
I think everyone would agree,
the three top minds in football right now offensively,
Kyle is in there, McVay is in there, Ben Johnson is in there.
Marty Moringway.
Yeah, exactly.
Who did you say?
You surprised me.
It was. So when you go, like, if McVay's doing this
and his group's doing it,
and Ben Johnson and his group's doing it,
and then, oh, by the will of the Bills are humming along
as, you know, an absolute buzzsaw,
they're doing it.
Maybe other teams.
Teams ought to do it.
So, anyways, what I'm getting at is the Rams
are just playing one-on-one with Devontae Adams,
and it's going to be Puka's going to get some of that action as well.
And then after they hit you with so much of that 13 personnel,
then they spread you out and go empty.
They chip with a back and a tight end,
and now Matthew Stafford's going to survey the whole field
and kind of do, like, the just pick-and-stick throws.
So it's. Their offense was never going to be an issue.
And then defensively,
they were just a little tighter in coverage,
and Aaron Donald, I don't know how, dude.
I don't know how.
I thought for sure he'd lose a. Or he'd get physically kind of tossed around,
neither of which happened.
He was explosive.
He was getting knocked back in the bowl,
and he played more snaps and maintained his level of play,
which, to me, is crazy.
I don't usually get excited about loyalty programs.
They promise big rewards, and then it's like,
you actually have to eat 30 pizzas just to get one free?
But here's the thing.
The Shell Fuel Rewards program is actually super practical.
You're already getting gas.
You're already grabbing takeout.
You're already buying snacks.
You definitely don't need, but absolutely deserve.
With Shell Fuel Rewards, you just get rewarded for that.
And not in a fake, point-you'll-never-use way.
It's actual savings on gas and the saving stack.
So it's not like one sad little discount
as you fill it up, you eat, you shop.
It all piles up into real savings at the pump.
Joining takes less than three minutes in the Shell app,
and you'll save on every fill after that.
Literally every single one.
Join the Shell Fuel Rewards program and save.
What other game are you most excited about for week three?
Let me pull up the slate here,
because I just know the Chargers are getting ready to go to Buffalo,
and that's going to be a tough one.
Let's see what we got here.
I'm worried about the Padres and the Dodgers, to be honest with you.
Good.
Yeah, I know that.
They look terrible.
Houston at Indianapolis.
Yeah.
Indies, I mean,
it's like one of the worst defensive performances
through two weeks in the history of the NFL.
Is that good?
That seems kind of troublesome.
And you're going to have a hungry. It feels like a get-right spot for Houston, that's for sure.
Yeah, 100%.
So, that one.
Man, the Steelers is going to. I'm curious to see.
DK Metcalf, for my money,
has been the most disappointing player
through two weeks this season.
He just can't catch, dude.
He's like. I mean, Aaron looks old and has not looked good,
but if you factor in just the drops from DK,
it's at least respectable.
And there was a lot of. There was a lot of excitement coming out of camp
that he was going to, you know, have a good year.
And then he's been just brutal.
And their offense is a complete mess.
So, that's an interesting one.
Let me see who else we got here.
Well, Philly-Chicago is unfortunate now
because of the Caleb part of it.
Yeah.
Lose a little luster on that one.
A little bit, yeah.
By the way, Philly. What's your take on Philly?
Because I feel like they're kind of in the perfect spot.
Where they're just going to kind of. They're going to win some ugly games,
kind of feel around, find their way.
They've already seen two quarterbacks
in their divisions go down.
And everybody in the NFC West
is going to be a battle royal.
They're going to just rip each other apart.
And it's going to be a physical toll
that it's going to take on those teams.
Now, we've seen that. I thought last year,
Seattle was kind of battle-tested through all that.
But there's also the case where you could see,
you know, some depletion of your roster
just because of how physical those games are going to be.
And Philly. You can kind of just lay under the radar a little bit.
I mean, they don't even talk about them in Philly.
They're talking about LeBron
and the Phillies going into the playoffs.
Like, the Eagles are like third on the list right now.
Yeah, that is weird.
Because it feels like they are a little under the radar.
Maybe it's because the first two matchups
against the Washington team,
we don't think it's very good.
And then, I mean, look,
they could have lost that Tennessee game.
So maybe there's some. But now they're going to play. And now they're going to play the Bears without the quarterbacks.
Like, it's just. They're going to just. You're going to look up
and everybody's going to be like,
who are the best teams in the league?
and you're going to rattle off the teams and you're going to go,
well, what about the 7-1 Eagles?
You're like, the Eagles are 7-1?
no it's like those atlanta well it isn't anything like that because i would never compare philadelphia
to atlanta but there was all these these falcon seasons i go how they're seven and four yeah like
i don't how did that happen um and that's not going to happen because philadelphia is more on
the radar um they're a better football team than some of those real dudes man yeah like some of
those nfc south seasons it was just whoever wanted i always was like inherently dismissive of them
like the al central where i would go all right cool you won the division like whatever you know
so i think i'd still rather be at least have somebody that's testing me a couple times a
season than kind of skating through it and then you get to kind of the big boy tournament and
you're like all right our division stunk and we kind of ate on like a really good schedule and
all that kind of stuff but i'd say like the philly tennessee game if that were a monday
night or a sunday night or that would have been processed an entirely different way because you
go okay what am i supposed to do because yes philly is overlooked um because they've been
around and we understand like how this stuff works where i don't think anybody's going to be
shocked that philadelphia is in the super bowl it's just that they've gone through a bunch of
different things and we're kind of bored of the whole thing and so you have this nfc contender
with new things that are happening and you're wondering like how hertz is going to look
and it depends on the possession but i'd say this at least for hertz is that he had to answer any
of the mistakes like he's answered in a big way through these two games when they're
they've needed him too and maybe that's more important than anything else that's happened
in these games even if it's sort of strange you're like how did you almost lose to tennessee
yeah but they got the ball i was in the press box uh at sofi and chargers games getting ready to go
and i'm watching i think i had the red zone on my computer and uh and money matt money smith our
play-by-play guy sitting next to me and he's keeping track some of the scores and he's talking
about tennessee and i'm like well if hertz gets the ball back they'll just go down and score and
win the game like it's just it's what he does it's what they do and it was just davante smith
just kind of right down the field and uh and they find a way to win games and i had howie on uh i
think on my first podcast and he's i'm like dude if i had to ask you just hertz everybody's he's
so nitpicked and so discussed like if you were gonna just boil him down like what's the best
attribute that he has like what is the best thing about him and he's like he's you know it sounds
cliche but the guy is a winner like when it's the winning moment
he's really really he's really good and he he literally doesn't care about you know stats and
whatever whatever the game requires if he has to play and rain and win he's not gonna throw the
ball he's gonna tuck it and run it 14 times he's gonna throw for 80 yards and we're gonna win games
but the guy is really good in those big moments and you know there's gonna be two or three games
where they'll find themselves in a shootout and he'll kind of like i don't know he threw for three
340 in this game like i didn't know they could even do that why don't they do that all the time
and it's like they just kind of do enough to
navigate through games and win games yeah they're really good on third down right now
some of the offensive numbers you know but look it's two weeks in you could say hey lesser
opponents they played with 10 guys week one i mean landon dickerson was should not have been
on the field like he's and he even self-admittedly was like that was embarrassing like that was
terrible i'm not healthy goes on ir after the game um i think that was i almost excused whatever
happened in that game i think arkley had 85 yards i don't even know how he got 85 yards in that game
they're playing with four offensive linemen yeah that was um that was something that was definitely
talked about i mean it was i think it was like the first thing nate tice when we hit on philadelphia
he was like okay well landon dickerson like i don't know what's going on now dude yeah there
you go so it was it was evident when you watch it it was like okay so you brought up dk metcalf
uh i don't know if you caught bruce feldman's stuff before the season started where he was
going through like hey who's a title contender who's a surprise right you know i don't know if
you caught bruce feldman's stuff before the season started where he was going through like hey who's
a title contender who's a surprise right who should win the heisman this year who is who should
be the most paid non-quarterback in college football right and so the answers were jeremiah
smith now granted he's talking to all of these coaches from all over the country and in particular
one anonymous big 10 coach said it's not jeremiah smith i'm paraphrasing here but i'm going to give
you what it is he was like all you have to do is like play somebody over the top and he's dk metcalf
and i was like this is wild because this is somebody who was an actual defensive coach in
the big 10 that's watched jeremiah smith now for two seasons and it's comparing him to dk metcalf
who by the way and i think you were part of this group too like people were looking at dk going
how is this guy not like a top 15 pick you're like because the tape that he had
was was very go it was a straight line he was not even close to being a polished route guy
so in a way like dk's career is impressive it's a credit to him um
even if he's been so bad this year as you've explained earlier i can't fathom working imagine
like working in football professionally at that level and watching jeremiah smith and then
comparing him to dk metcalf yeah i'll tell you what's emboldened him on that though is he's seen
marvin harrison jr and where he was picked in the expectation and him not do well come out of that
same program and he's he's that's what's giving him the courage to make a statement like that
they're totally it has nothing to do with it it has it has nothing like if you wanted to go big
ohio state like all of these numbers and all of that stuff you're like you want to do the ohio
state thing so because marvin harrison jr has been a disaster that somehow that like there's
stuff that happens remember the big 10 running back thing that was going on you were probably
working in the league and there's a long time running backs you're just like this is dud after
dud after dud and then larry johnson gets in the league and you're like all right like i guess
we're back now so i hate any of that stuff but i think it's a good thing that he's been in the league
um feel air raid quarterbacks before mahomes remember that was like that was a thing yeah
that one seemed to be kind of accurate it got me i wish i i got i got caught on that one
screens and scrambles man it was all screens and scrambles and then uh and it turns out he's pretty
good um oh with patrick oh okay i thought you meant i thought you meant on like somebody that
you had brought in when you were working in the nfl no no no no but i mean did you guys draft any
air raid guys
you got any air raid guys in your resume that you drafted no i don't think so no he's got all
the pros that derrick anderson we didn't draft many quarterbacks where i was that got drafted
before i got to before i got to baltimore brady quinn got drafted before i got to cleveland
so i i honestly i think it was derrick anderson and then uh maybe one more like late late round
late i like derrick anderson yeah he made a pro bowl six round that's a win no one makes the
pro bowl so that's what i do but go back go back to the dk thing he's not dk
i go back and pulled up my notes and you referenced it dk ran three routes it was
goes uh slants go furthers and posts like that was it it was slant post go like he never had to hit
the brakes if he had to hit the brakes it was not good he couldn't drop his weight he was a
locomotive big extremely big stiff and fast and he could you know so those were the things and i i he
was like my 18th player and he had the neck and that's why he fell into the second round but i i
was like look
i'm going to go back and pull up my notes and you referenced it dk ran three routes it was goes
don't ask him do the other stuff he can do enough damage with these few routes and and be a
productive effective player but jeremiah smith can drop his weight he can he knows how to he's got
polish he knows how to set guys up um he's got more juice getting when he has to stop and start
like even simple stuff like that and now he's he's a freak but the marvin thing is weird by the way
that's a weird one any guesses i can't believe it i mean even his rookie year like he was solid
there was some stuff in there right yeah yeah you could find some good in there now he looks so
sluggish disinterested no urgency can't get away from anybody the effort has not been good um we
were talking about this the other day if you looked at the four wideouts that were on that team
so based off like draft grades it would have been mine if i'm looking at myself
would have had like uh marvin one would have been garrett wilson two alave three jsn four it's
completely the opposite jsn clearly the one alave the two in a discussion with garrett wilson but
you probably go alabe garrett would be three and then a huge gap and then marvin would be four
would you trade for him if they if you were running a team he said oh this is like this
is philly this is i'm imagining he's from philly right his dad was from philadelphia like this is
the classic i'm not familiar with his father in philadelphia yeah uh i think he's uh i i think that
could kind of get a chance to resurrect his career out there so i love okay so if you were if if you're
howie and they call and say hey give us a second rounder for him no i don't think you get this
you're not going to get based on what he's looked like yeah i mean i to me you're talking about like
a four that turns into a three with some decent production okay it's crazy for a guy you took that
high you know but he's like i just saw him i just prepared for their game and you're watching the
fifth option on that offense it's not even they threw him one go ball that was it you just wish
if you were a coach be like hey do you hate this could you just tell me yeah if you don't like
football that's fine we'll move on yeah yeah just let me i know you're not supposed to say you don't
have fun out here and you hate it but you'd be doing me a huge favor and our quarterback like
just tell me like we'll get you in 10 routes but like we'll just let jacoby know that you're just
not super interested in catching this stuff right now um
let's do a little college here i went a little later than i thought i was going to go
so if you have the time yeah let's go
what kind of conversations you think you're gonna be having about trinidad chambliss
around draft time next year i mean i've already had some
conversations around the league about him um i don't know guys who don't like him i haven't heard
you know i haven't heard the negative side of it the age is going to be where people are going to
bang him on he's just under six feet um but that's you know doesn't bother people as much anymore i
think the fact that he's i believe he's got big hands he's got a thick lower body like he's you
know he's closer to 220 pounds than he is 200 pounds so he's kind of got like a baker russell
wilson build to him and he's got elite elite arm talent to make every type of you know layered
throw drive the ball on schedule he's done things off schedule he's he's got some magic to him so
and then everything about him and some of this probably comes with the age and his journey that
he's traveled but everything you hear is like he's mature he's an adult you know all those things that
maybe derail some guys he doesn't have any of those concerns so um you know sample size he's
going to have plenty more
games and big stages against really good defenses to you know to show what he can do there so um i
said over the summer right he's my he was my favorite player to watch over the summer not
saying he's like the number one pick in the draft but i'm like he was just the most fun tape to watch
was his tape with what he was doing and i think it could translate i was getting asked in the lead
up to the season is there any way this guy could be a first round pick and i'm like yeah look at
the guys that have gone in the in the first round a thousand percent he can be a first round pick
now it's just a matter of you know where he kind of slides
in is camario taylor better than any of the quarterbacks that can be drafted he he's a freak
man like that's one of those ones he's he's a sophomore so we'll you know second year player
we'll see uh we'll see him in the next year's draft but i was thinking two things number one
there's very few guys where it just looks different like the way the ball comes out and i
think it's a trajectory thing whether it's a 20 yard throw or a 60 yard throw the ball trajectory
doesn't really have to change like it's just he has got so much rotation on the ball it is spinning
so fast looks like it came out of a jugs machine and it does not have to he can throw just firm
balls all over the field it man i don't even want to do this because i don't want to put this name
on him because people will just say that you're killing him but it reminds me of when jamarcus
threw a football like for all the reasons it didn't work out for jamarcus russell and they're
always an experience at lsu like that looks different it just looks it looks weird it looks
like is that a regulation football like that's you're literally watching it am i watching this
on 1.25 or is this like that doesn't that doesn't compute when you're watching video all the time
who's your favorite player non-quarterback
charlie becker probably be up there for me no way he's fun to watch man he's got he's got a lot of
tools in his bag like he's got a lot of tools in his bag like he's got a lot of tools in his bag
like he is big um he's got a second gear when the ball goes up he's got like a track background
a hurdle background so he's got legit you know real track speed but he tempos routes he understands
how to set guys up he's efficient uh you know getting in and out of breaks and then his ball
skills and his ability to adjust and contort his body down the field are as good as you can see
like he's got incredible incredible adjustment skills so um i watching the raiders the other day
and i'm sitting there and
thinking you know i don't know how many games they're going to win they're off to a 2-0 start
but that would be awfully tempting looking at what that team needs and if you're picking up
there in the top 10 um i would love to reunite him with his quarterback um what do you got a
leonard moore notre dame those are you know he's one of those guys that you don't see a lot of when
you see like the body type and skill set of pats or tan you see you know gonzalez was like that
coming out of oregon he wasn't quite as good as he was in the first place but he's got a lot of
talent he's got a lot of talent he's got a lot of talent he's got a lot of talent he's got a lot of
as polished as sirtan was but those you know stingley you know is a bigger corner there's
just rare guys that are that big in like 200 pound corners or 6162 that have that fluidity
and they just move so easy and it's hard to find those guys i mean he's uh he's exceptional
and uh to me he's someone you can kind of build your whole coverage plan around you can just set
it and forget it just leave him over there and let him go
how many of these guys like are you already starting to look like a dante moore and go
yeah maybe not a first round like when he went from number one overall pick i don't know what
the arch tape says because i'd say the first half against ohio state the tape would be terrible
um and i think the second half as we know the comeback was incredible but i mean there was
so much stuff in that first half i'm like what is this yeah i would say let's start with dante i
think he's a good guy i think he's a good guy i think he's a good guy i think he's a good guy
in the good and the bad through two weeks where the things that you like he is uh he's a he's a
gifted passer like he's he's someone who can you know take whatever's required of a throw so if
it's an up and down throw in the middle of middle of the field he's got touch to be able to do that
he's got enough arm strength where he needs to drive it out to perimeter he can do that
um i like the trajectory and loft he puts on his deep ball it's a pretty ball
his issue is very simple it's the same it's been that way through two games i questioned it a
year and it's really crystallized this year which is can you beat a free rusher it was the same
question we had on stroud until the georgia game at the end of his college career but when space
is condensed he can't get away he doesn't have he just lacks kind of that short area quickness
and that's not to say you gotta take off and run for 50 yards but can you sidestep a guy
can you create it all like it's just on platform he's been good or even kind of on some design
movement but it's just the game is so much more condensed in the nfl
and you're going to have those three to four plays a game where you're going to have to be
able to just maneuver around the free guy he has not been able to do it and it's not like they're
playing you know the elite elite of the big 10 um so that's a that's a major concern for me and
like i said it was it was a stroud thing as well and then he showed in that one game like okay
i don't know why but he's had he just has not shown this ability until now but at least i've
seen him do it i have yet to see him do that so that would be my my major concern with him and
then on arch
you're going to have to have those three to four plays a game where you're going to have to be able
arch has like traits out the wazoo like just with the size and the arm strength the ability to run
um i just think to me when i watch him he gets better in games the more he plays and i think
you're going to see him get better in the season the more he plays he needs to play like the stuff
that that doesn't look right to your eyes to me is just seeing you know playing more ball getting
more experience and seeing it but he's got a huge arm um and he's been he's stepped up to some big
on which i like to see but some of it is just okay he just needs to see this trap coverage where
they're trying to bait him and things like that i i think he just plays more i think he'll eliminate
some of that stuff all right nice little primer there for 20 quarterback primer yeah i appreciate
that uh that is daniel jeremiah make sure you subscribe to his a new feed of the same great

uh thanks for joining us today sure yeah you're gonna say that a lot no not in the uh not in this
anchor voice either no in the hizzy um you know who knows you could start something here bring it
back yeah all right you guys got anything nothing
you
uh
finished my golf league last night um i got something but finish my golf league i think i
am second to last place which was really important to me really you know really uh
stressful round but uh i mean autumn golf is just amazing by the way this is my first time really
dealing with that really really the best and then it really is then guys are like it's it's autumn
rules and it's like you're just taking gallery jobs and you're just like you're just taking
and you know, for a guy like me,
That's huge.
It's getting 10 strokes.
Yeah, let's go.
Great lie.
Thank you.
So Rudy seemed to tease at something here.
Do we want to talk about your budding social media selfie video situation?
Do we want to just address it?
The Gitmo?
There appears to be nothing that I do that has to do with my face or body that is not judged.
I mean, I know that primarily sex has been a main theme on why the show has done so well.
I get it.
You know, when Tate McRae adds five pounds, she's going to get heat.
And when I have a bad angle, because the expectation is that I'm going to look so good all the time and it doesn't look as good.
I totally get it.
But I don't understand the confusion on these Reese's videos.
I mean, people are going deep, like really.
They think I'm about to go on like suicide watch.
And I'm like, it's Halloween is around the corner.
We wanted to make the video spooky.
I was going to say the lighting was a choice.
I did it.
You guys are on all day.
So we need the Reese's video.
And I said, if we need it today, don't worry, because I thought I was going to go to the Rams game.
And then I didn't go to the Rams game, which I know is shocking.
And and then we did it later at night and people are losing their fucking minds.
But the crazy thing is that Reese's video at night is within a week of the beach video, which is a completely different setting.
Same person.
And so I don't I don't know what to do about it.
You're just too dynamic.
Not just, you know what I should do about it, which is what I talked about with Sheree last night.
It's like, I don't care.
I do not care why I'm used to it, whether it's the Utah cashmere number or it's the the legends stare down.
We're just going to keep we're just going to keep pumping out the content.
I was going through.
Well, one.
First off.
First off, engagement race probably got to be through the roof.
So Reese's should be.
You're welcome.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sorry.
Reese's hasn't said a word.
Yeah.
Right.
So maybe, you know, just big brain activity right there.
What was I going to say?
Oh, the other thing was I was like looking through.
I hit up Tom, one of our producers, because I was looking for the pictures that you took at Super Bowl last year.
Oh, and I was like, oh, yeah, maybe we'll like look through these, see if we could update some stuff.
Yada, yada, yada.
And those are the funniest pictures I've ever.
I like we should just really we should just post them like they are so funny.
There's like I think I found like one or two that I think are like, OK.
I mean, first off, you're just doing the arms across like big arms move basically 90 percent of the pictures.
But not Lauren Landry, though, you know, like I'm not putting the hand the back behind the bicep to try to.
I'm not saying it's real or not real.
It's just like you got one.
You had one move.
Basically, that was it.
And there's like 20.
There's like probably 25 pictures.
And there's it's pretty much the same face, the same arm situation and slightly different, slightly different.
I wouldn't even call it a smile.
It's more of just like a look that you kind of give.
So he loves him.
So he loves these pictures.
I haven't seen him.
The attachment wouldn't open.
I sent you the best one.
I thought was the best one.
I thought the picture was fine.
But then we saw the Netflix like I didn't even realize.
I mean, this is sort of a strange story.
Let's just say someone.
Someone from my past hit me up and was like, were you do you look like this now?
What's going on?
And I had never seen it.
And I looked at it and went, yeah, I don't think I look like that.
But I have I don't give up.
I don't give up on a lot of things.
I've given up on this.
It's just what it is.
We're pumping out the content and you just can't you can't worry about it.
You know?
Yeah, I think that's the way to do it.
And I mean, the reason that we had that initially, too, is because you hadn't.
Really taken professional photographs.
And like, I think the last one I had was from like Rosillo and Connell.
And, you know, and then before that, it's like when you had hair.
So, like, we can't really couldn't really use anything.
So we just got to get a draw.
We could put people on their toes a little bit.
But so we didn't even have a picture.
So like, oh, yeah, we'll do like a rendering of sorts.
And that's how I got to one point had hair.
Why is it there's another punishment that comes with this that I can't have myself.
Represented with maybe that's the move.
I've got a picture from 01 where you'd be like, dude, you really look hot.
I want you to send that one in the group chat.
I mean, you're sending everything.
How about if I just from now on, if I go on Calhoun show, I got Dan Patrick show.
I use a headshot from 2001.
That would be very funny.
That would be it would be.
I think that's what we're going to start doing.
And I'm Brandon.
Just start using lettuce pictures.
I do have a buddy who does the same thing.
Like, dude, I had sick hair.
I was like, cool, man.
I don't want to take that away from you.
No one can take that from you.
Yeah.
Thank you, Kyle.
Like, if is it like now you're telling me something that I used to be.
I can't even claim that.
No, I'm not saying I'm not saying.
Yeah, I don't want I don't want that out there in the universe.
It's not like it's a dating profile.
No.
You know, here's what I looked like at a different time.
Yeah.
Nobody has their black book.
I don't think that's that's still who you were as well.
You know, fair.
That guy had a great time back in the day.
So anyway, broke the Internet.
So good.
It's fun.
All right.
Let's go with a 98 right down the middle.
Gym stats, 20 years old, six comma three.
Oh, we've got a euro on our hands.
80 kilos.
Tore my rotator cuff in the gym a year ago, so I haven't able to hit upper body.
We could bench 80 for 10 reps for that, which I believe is 175 in the Imperial system.
I have known.
Most of my mates since kindergarten.
And we all grew up going to the same school and playing in the same soccer teams.
As a result of this, our parents are also friends.
We're two years out of high school and have all gone to university.
He lets us know that that's college in parentheses or gotten full time jobs.
One of our mates has worked the past two years as a teacher aid for a local primary.
That's elementary school.
A few months ago, he brought it like a guy's thorough.
Yeah, doing in kilograms.
Imperial.
This guy's on it.
The kilograms is helpful.
The rest I got.
But yeah, six comma three is not cool.
Six dash three.
Telling you that right now.
There's no way that's not that that's not the yank in me.
A few months ago, he brought up the fact that he likes one of the other teacher aides he
works with.
She is 35 years old and has three children who go to the school he works at.
He has since started dating her and has told us he loves her.
We have gently.
Been trying to give him a reality check that this relationship will either go nowhere or
he will end up being responsible, responsible for providing for three kids that aren't hers.
Wait, well, I think he meant to say that aren't his right.
She also told him that he doesn't want any more kids, so he would never have kids of
his own.
He says that isn't a problem to him, but it feels like a big decision to make at this
age.
He is also a friend who you never see again.
Once he's in a relationship, he's only told about four mates about the relationship and
that hasn't even told his parents.
Who he lives with, we know their reaction will not be great as they are heavily religious.
What do we do in this situation?
Try to talk him out of it.
Let it run its course.
Are we crazy for not wanting to date a woman 15 years older than him with three kids?
This will shake you up, you know, 20.
This is a wild one.
So you guys, you guys are rattled right now, which I totally get.
Yeah.
I've got a bunch of different avenues into this.
I had something going on.
I had something where, you know, somebody that was really close to me was dating somebody
that's older than, you know, older than me.
And that that's about, it was like about a 15 year gap.
I worked in the schools.
I don't know what's in the water in those schools.
People are horny in those schools.
I'm telling you, it's the, it's the, the groundskeeper and the lunch staff and teachers and, you
know, administrative.
And it's like, people find out about this shit.
It's not a big secret.
Once I like got into the back end of that world, working there, getting a paycheck,
it was like, man, you guys, how do you guys stay so buttoned up the stories I'm hearing?
So, I mean, that, that was bound to happen.
Whoever it was, you know, whoever he chose, it was going to be someone.
But I think he's 20, they're 20, right?
20.
This is some 20 year old shit, man.
I'll just tell you, like, let him, let him like actually come face to face with these
problems that you're, you know, it seems like you're a guy who plans ahead for yourself
and others.
Cause you're, you're saying all these things like, and he's the kind of guy that gets a
girlfriend and we never see him again.
And what about the kids?
And she doesn't want kids.
That's like thinking pretty far ahead for a 20 year old.
I'd say just let him be.
Let him hit a couple, you know, let him go down this bumpy path and, and, uh, I bet you
he will because he's 20, he will probably bail pretty soon.
Right.
That's my thoughts.
Be supportive.
The likelihood that this like actually is a thing longterm is pretty low.
So the getting involved, like you could address it and say whatever, say your piece on things,
but I don't think it's going to like, I wouldn't make anything different.
If anything, it might make him be more defiant.
Uh, and I told you so is, is almost as good as a, I mean, I didn't want to say anything.
It's over.
Yeah.
When it's over, you can be like, man, I was thinking this the whole time.
I got some questions about her too.
Like what, why she, what, what three kids and a 20 year old, like that seems okay.
Hey, school decisions are made school system.
Something goes on there, but I would, why don't people do anything?
You know what I mean?
I mean, it makes sense.
I mean, maybe this guy's good looking.
Maybe he's got a, a, a way about him.
Good with a line quick with a, no, you think she's just a loser.
Those are the parents.
He's 20.
I don't know.
But like.
Dude, you know how much a flat costs in Liverpool?
I don't.
Riverside.
No, I don't.
i would be surprised by that i feel like i don't know like is he just doing this for attention like
i don't like is he what i would be interested like what if he never was hooking up or you know
what i mean and now this woman is rocking his world but the thing is is because all you guys
are 20 years old you know like i can't believe i'm trying to think of an english name but whatever
i can't come up with it um gareth that's a good one liam's another good one joseph
that was a weird one liam let's go with liam so this is kind of like if liam stole a car when he's
14 right like when's when's the age when somebody who takes out a parent's car and goes for a joy
ride with a couple of his mates like 13 is like oh my god 14 you're like okay 15 it almost makes
a little bit of sense right so
20 you're two years out of high school you're kind of doing your own thing here and yeah it's
a bad idea and yeah his parents would not approve and yeah to shut it down like i'm out of the i'm
out of the old reproducing game you know she's done so i'm out at 20 like yeah you're right none
of it makes any sense but it's also probably rattling you a little bit more because of your
age and this is like the first guy in the group that's doing something that's this outrageous to
you so you think it needs to be addressed
you think you have to have fucking meetings and interventions about the whole thing and it's like
you know what man i'm gonna tell you right now odds are this thing is going to play out exactly
how everyone is talking about it right now with us everyone that's listening to it don't worry
there is an expiration date and then you can laugh about it as the great mates that you are in the
future that is that is a good point i feel like younger me as a friend just cared about way more
things that my buddies were doing and why it is a really freeing thing like later in life to be like
oh dude you want to you want to buy a timeshare in daytona hell yeah brother like happy for you
hope it works out whereas like younger me would be like what an idiot like we have to have an
intervention you're just like ah go for it like knock yourself out dude so there is a there is
definitely an age element to this where i would be bothered as the emailer is right i would probably
be bothered in that situation if i was him yeah every little event back then seemed massive you
know what i mean and it's just a blip i mean think how absurd it is to be 15 and you're like oh my god
i'm 15 or 16. i mean look i can throw a 25 on it for me if you want like think anyone should be
fucking listening to you as a guy hey dude we needed to talk to you about this like you don't
know how to tie your shoes yet still like no kindly sit this one out yeah yeah we've been
talking about lucy nicotine pouches um it's the industry's longest lasting
flavor nicotine meat technology nicotine lucy meet our friend nephew kyle who's been raving about his
experience with lucy pouches because you know he had a golf league he was in a league the pressure

negative about our guy but we're proud of our guy he's proud of himself that he didn't come in last

with code ryan and here comes the fine print warning this product contains nicotine nicotine
is an addictive chemical all right uh this is
a longer one no that's too bad only child do i morally need to have a kid 58 165 72 inch wingspan
wow this guy's it's a nice nice sort of uh relationship there between height and wingspan
lifetime fitness bench 135 for 12 30 minute session three four times a week on the peloton
we don't need to do all of this but i'm breed it i just don't want more people doing it um
so he doesn't want me to give out his location
uh but it is relevant all right comp avery bradley defensive-minded undersized combo guard i hope
you're all doing well i turned 30 a couple weeks ago and i can't get this out of my head i'm an
only child and my dad has one sister on my dad's side i'm the last in the family tree so if i don't
produce an error the last name dies with me i like the way this guy's thinking it's totally true
though you don't think i'm worried about it me too i get two girls oh you got you got guys that
can step up and do it i don't think i'm worried about it i don't think i'm worried about it i don't
right right i don't my brother has a daughter he's done
oh well you know i mean it's not looking good
but there'd be some things like super egotistical about it where if i were just an
egomaniac i'd be like it ends with me what's cooler than that but yeah that medieval times
i'd be last for silla you could just elon musk and just put an ad out right and be like you know
procreation need it i don't think i'd want to do that no you know well peace of mind though
well i think if i were going to do the air thing i'd want to maybe play catch
couple times so um sure but if this were medieval times
you don't think that i'd be at this stage it'd be like get this guy out of the village
right we're done with you what's what's his deal yeah mountain man be trapping weavers or something
up there just a little wizard what's going on exile to ham and sham all right uh little background on
me live in a pretty upscale area high cost of living clean neighborhood smooth roads
smooth roads we'll write that dude that's awesome when you get on a patch of smooth
after some you're like oh man it's a wealthy road wow
this guy's roads it's like i don't really like him that much but his roads are so sweet
lines are clear bright you know but one of the things about this whole process of reading the
emails there are clues there are clues about the way your brain works that i figure out
and there are ways about the people you're talking about with some of the things that you emphasize
don't emphasize at all de-emphasize if you will all right so he's got a smooth road bought a house
two stories four bedrooms pool a couple years ago i do have a solid 401k good health benefits
but i wouldn't consider myself rich by any means roads would tell a different story but we'll stay
with you yeah i do all right for myself but where i live um in the dating pool i'd say
these traits are pretty average at best now physically i'm obviously not the biggest catch
on a good day a couple pairs of socks might be able to gymnastics myself up to 5 10. yeah the
pillow stretch and i'm trying to get back myself you're probably wondering what my dating history
is like so i'll start there i was in a long relationship my senior year of high school
that lasted roughly five years it didn't end on great terms
granted we were both young and both would probably admit we didn't handle the best now you were young
that's a tough one too high school into college and then or whatever is going on that's a tough
phase to lock those in do not judge yourself don't be hard on yourself all right um however since
that ended i have truly enjoyed doing what i want to do one of my favorite things in the world is
sitting on the couch every saturday and sunday during football season and just simply not moving
i even love getting off work on wednesday at five and going to play nine holes by myself at a local
uh i do not it's not like i don't have a social life i do i go to bars hang out with friends go
to sporting events but it's always on my terms if i don't want to do something if i don't want
to go do something then i just don't to be honest it's not like i'm doing well for myself when i
go out i get lucky sometimes he parentheses five eight again um and i've tried dating
i've been in two relationships since in that initial one but they haven't lasted the past
two months mostly because they will say something along the lines of we should go to the farmer's
market this weekend i've been in two relationships since in that initial one but they haven't lasted the past two months mostly because they will say something along the lines of we should go to the farmers market this weekend we should go to the farmers market this weekend
which is a clear ick and ultimately leads me to break things off all right dude you're
never going to have kids uh and say goodbye to your family name yeah i think i understand
farmer's markets are great yeah there's always a car that out there
just put that aside dude there you can sell weed at farmer's markets now new york just passed the
thing in august only small cool though only small businesses hell yeah good to know fighting against
the man i'm just saying farmers markets it's uh it's you know they're constantly you know
pushing the limits of what a farmer's market can be yeah yeah yeah we started an anti-weed
experience the other day i was walking into the equinox parking lot and i it just was raging these
guys that was their pre-workout like they're like we don't need nitrous oxide we're just going to
rip a j here and i walked through it and it was like i stunk like weed and i could smell it and
i'm not saying like but i don't want that i didn't want that before i was about to struggle with my
bench which dude when you start sweating too you know what i mean weed or tobacco it just starts
coming out of you and you're like dude this is the worst i've smelled in a while so i don't know why
anybody does that but a note to my man backing up siri's point on the farmer's market i too just
went to the farmer's market yesterday i'm thinking of pivoting into bringing my own bag to the
farmer's market i'm serious um that might be the next move because something happened with the
juices yesterday i almost lost a mint pineapple juice that cost me 16 bucks it was in glass but he
couldn't give me plastic because he's only allowed to do paper but then it was supposed to be
smuggled it was complete disaster um but we saved it it was fine if you're 30 and
you want to have a family and you're already like i'm too cool for the farmer's market
I might have said that when I was 25, and you know what?
Maybe I would have said it by 30, but listen to me.
Farmer's markets are great.
Where are you going to do better for your produce?
And you're supporting small businesses, sometimes even female-owned,
female-women-owned.
Also, what she wants to do could be, you should be happy if that's par
for the weekend for her.
Of all the stuff that sucks, that you're going to have to do,
grab yourself a juice and a fucking peach, a white peach or a Meyer's lemon.
Bring it back to the house later on.
Crush it in some ice water.
I'm trying to talk my wife out of a garlic festival an hour away from me
this weekend.
Like, I will go to the Poughkeepsie Farmer's Market in a fucking flash, dude.
Yeah, a garlic festival?
Think about what Kyle has to do.
That sucks.
I'm not totally committed.
I'm still working on her.
It's Wednesday, but I don't know.
I'll let you know by Thursday, I think, if I've sealed the deal.
I would like a full report.
I hope you go.
Can I just tell you what my argument is?
Travelogue from the garlic market.
You know what?
I'm sure the garlic infused oil is going to be amazing.
Probably some great garlic bread.
But then we're going to get into the, try my garlic lemonade, my garlic ice cream.
Like, 70% of it is going to be like, don't need that at all.
And it's like, I'll be over this shit in 25 minutes,
and it's going to be a two-hour round trip.
So I think I'm actually gaining a little ground with this argument.
Garlic Legos.
Right, exactly.
There's going to be so much useless novelty, you know,
for a whole festival.
You know, come on.
That seems to be a very specific lane, Kyle.
I'm on your side, but I still hope you go.
Okay.
All right, so back to our guys.
You can tell I'm pretty picky.
All right.
Maybe that's a me issue, but I've always said that I'm open to marriage,
but it has to be the right person.
I think that makes sense.
The last thing I would want is to be in a relationship, get married,
and have half my assets, get taken, and divorce.
I'll tell you right now, that mindset will keep you single for quite a while.
My people, too, are like, I'm open to marriage,
and it doesn't even have to be the right person.
Just anybody.
Like, okay.
Thanks, guy.
Yeah.
All right.
With the area I live in, cheating is a very real thing,
and he is right about that.
Also, I wouldn't want to stay at home wife.
With the area I live in, most women just want to get married and stay at home.
I'm a career guy, so I'd like her to have a career, too,
but also with my measurables, can I afford to be picky?
This guy is really honest about what 5'8 brings to the table.
Morally,
I'm not sure it's right for me to end the family tree
because I care too much about the things I want to do.
I do all right financially, but I can't just adopt a kid, right?
That would be strange.
Maybe for you, maybe not for others.
I think you're allowed.
If you get them young enough, you might be able to change the name.
Is that true?
Maybe I didn't want to say it that way,
but I just mean if there's a brand new baby, it's like. Do you have any young ones that are not that into. Like a vague. Like a Smith or a Johnson?
Yeah.
Want something to maybe stand out?
All right.
That's just. That was a poor delivery,
but I think you understand what I'm trying to say.
No, it sounds like you're a little too set in his ways.
Some sort of filter, right?
Farmer's market.
Yeah.
All right.
I've got a couple of friends, women that I know
that haven't had the best luck and are still available.
Should I just lay this out to them and be like,
hey, you're getting older.
I'm getting older.
This isn't about us, but we should give this thing a shot.
Well, if that doesn't scream true love on an Instagram post. I'm sorry.
I don't believe this is fake.
There's too many red flags here, dude.
Like, what are we doing?
Or maybe another solution is getting a dog as a test run
and seeing if that changes my way of thinking.
I'm in a bit of a pickle morally and would love to hear from y'all.
Sorry if this was long.
There's just a lot going on in here,
which I think kind of gets to our original point
is you may need a bit of a reset onto like,
what is it that you want?
And you admitted that you're being picky.
You're in a high. You're in a high density area right now for women,
but it's a little wild where you're at.
And maybe that's part of the problem,
that it's a little too wild, a little too show-offy,
a little too real housewives.
And maybe that's messing you up.
You know, maybe you need to get back to some Midwestern roots,
even if you don't have roots there.
Like, hey, this is a little different speed.
I don't. Reading that email, honestly, Saruti,
I don't know what he wants.
I mean, I think I do,
but I'm not sure if he even wants anything
other than, is it bad if my last name ends?
And then it's a bunch of, like,
very specific things that I think would make it
harder to find that person.
Yeah, clearly he doesn't want to do any of these things.
He just is worried about the name thing.
So I would say. I would say if all of the signs that you gave us
are you should not pursue that
and the name should just end, you know, that's it.
Like, I don't think. I don't think, like, you don't. Like, if you want to sit on the couch all day Saturday,
you don't like farmer's markets,
you're talking to, like, you know,
about these two friends you have
who are still available and just for convenience,
let's figure it out.
Just keep living your life.
I don't think the name thing
is going to be a problem for you.
Yeah, if your dad's not bothering you about it,
you know, I guess it's fine.
I don't. It doesn't sound like there's too many things.
Like, the fact that it was, like,
the breakups past two months
because they're talking about farmer's markets
or whatever, you know,
that was probably, like,
probably other things like that
that he just doesn't want to do.
And you want to be left alone on the weekends
and you want your wife to have a job,
but also, I don't know, take care of the family.
And, like, it's a very. I think you might have to move to the South, dude.
I don't know.
I don't know.
You maybe try moving.
Just try, you know, new pool
with, you know, women that maybe. But he's, like, he's not ready yet.
But he's, like, he's living, like,
a 16-year-old's dream, right?
And, like, so you're going to do that
into your, like, 40s and 50s.
And, like, I'm telling you,
I'm not trying to lay it down crazy here,
but, like, that might get old.
You know, there might be a time
when you regret this.
Just think about that.
He's only 30,
and it's a great point, Saruti.
Like, I would say to this guy,
just go through whatever you're going,
through here,
and then maybe at 35, it'll kick in.
Dudes are playing scenes at 75, too, dude.
Like, there's guys out there with old dads.
Well, like Al Pacino is,
but not the average guy.
That's cool.
It's probably. No, that's not cool.
I'm just saying.
People say it to me all the time.
They're like,
well, Pacino just had another,
and I go, well, what the fuck?
Right.
What do you think is the oldest
you would allow yourself to be
when your kid's in high school?
Tell that dog to stop making all that noise.
Like, is 70 too old
if your kid's, like, graduating high school?
That's your kid.
It's older than you.
It's older than you want,
but, like, I don't know.
I went to school with a guy
whose dad was, like, 72,
and it was just like, yeah, you know.
Dad was still out there,
but 72 is still, like, with it, you know?
72 is with it.
Yes.
You are with it,
but you are. Like, there's a line somewhere, you know?
I'm trying to think.
I'll be, what, 50?
No.
What will I be?
37 now.
Yeah, I'll be, like, in my early 50s.
Yeah, that's. That's pretty awesome.
Yeah, that's pretty good.
That's kind of the dream.
That's. I'll take that.
But I feel like now. I mean, I guess if you're, like, famous,
it's different.
Like, you can just be. Like, you just kind of look younger
and you're cooler.
Start a bank account and whatever.
But, like, if you're a normal dude,
yeah, I gotta. Yeah, no, I mean, thank you, but. That'll do it for the show today.
Thanks to Steve.
Thanks to Kyle.
Thanks to Tom.
Thanks to Kevin.
