#DamnGood Celeb Special! Kate Middleton, Selena Gomez & Pamela Anderson: The Unsponsored Holy Grail Beauty Products They Actually Use
51m 24s
In this episode of Breaking Beauty, hosts Jill Dunn and Carleen Higgins explore unsponsored beauty products that celebrities actually use, contrasting them with paid placements common in media. They highlight Celine Dion’s documentary, where she was spotted using Orbie Super Fine hairspray, Tom Ford Soleil Blanc fragrance, Laneige lip sleeping mask, and Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream—all confirmed as organic by the brand. Tracy Ellis Ross shared her favorites, including May Lindstrom’s Happy Galaxy body oil and Blue Cocoon balm, which she applies post-shower. Justin Bieber’s documentary revealed Biologique Recherche masks, L’Oreal MD sunscreen, and a Sephora niacinamide treatment, though some may belong to his wife, Hailey. The hosts note that celebrities often rely on esthetician-recommended professional products, making their choices more authentic. They stress the value of transparency in endorsements, as many celebrities now own brands, making unsponsored picks more credible. The episode aims to help listeners discover genuine celebrity beauty secrets without paid influence.
The following podcast is a deer media production. Welcome to Breaking Beauty, the podcast all about the breakthrough people, products, and moments in beauty. We're your host, Jill Dunn, and Carleen Higgins. Welcome back to Breaking Beauty podcast, everyone. I'm one of your co-hosts, Jill Dunn. We're in your feed, so it must be Wednesday. I'm here alongside Carleen Higgins. Hello. Like we are every single Wednesday. It's the hot, hot summer. It's the middle of July. And so we wanted to do like a fun episode this week, our most popular episode, the #DamGoods. Yeah, so as you know, every week we're in your feed talking about the breakthrough, people, products, and moments in beauty and what's popping right now. And every month we do what we call our #DamGood episodes where we talk about the damn good products that are lining store shelves. And we usually have a theme a lot of times it's around a season, like spring, summer, what have you. But since we already did our summer roundup, we were like, let's just have some fun. Absolutely. And you know, being from the magazine world, we were always obsessed with the topic that we are doing today. Like it was always a headline. Yeah. And so the headline today is the #DamGoodproducts that celebrities actually use and asterisk around unsponsored. So we really dug down. Jill is like a beauty sleuth. So I know she's going to be hitting us with some really legit products that are unsponsored. That celebrities are actually out there using. That's what we really want to know. We don't want to know what they're going to pay for. Yeah. And I think that the era that we are in currently, and what is so different from our magazine days is that we came up in sort of the era of the celebrity spokesperson. So the landcome face, the L'Oreal Paris face. Yes, that still exists. But in this day and age, every celebrity has a brand. So when they're actually talking about something, they don't own. Yeah. It's like my ears are purking up. You know what I mean? And I'm genuinely interested. Absolutely. And also a big topic of conversation that we were talking about earlier this year was this idea of product placements. You had some great pop culture examples of just how with marketing, these brands are getting really smart and also really balzy about how they show up in these pop culture television shows or movies that everyone's talking about. And we just came off of what I call panel season where it's like can lion all these advertising panels. And I saw a clip on my social media of a girl who works for a big advertising agency. And she was talking about how they pride themselves. I'm not paying for any of the placements. So there are whole entire agencies out there dedicated to trying to get products placed movies, TV shows, backgrounds of podcasts. But I'm just when I'm scrolling, I'm always thinking about that. Yeah. What is paid? What is not? Absolutely. Absolutely. And I think this is really in the ether right now because like we said, it's really pushed past the threshold where they are getting really balzy where it's like the characters in the shows are using talking points. Yeah, from like a marketing brief, which is what we would do when we're being paid to talk about something that we feel like we are one of our advertisers. One of our advertisers. And so we always disclose. And they don't disclose. And this is what kind of rubs me the wrong way. And what we've talked about before we always disclosed from day one. Yeah. And so we're trying to find out that there are definitely social media people out there who are not disclosing who are trying to endorsing products that they're being paid for. They're not being up front with the fact that they're being paid. And so I think that's what really inspired our episode was like, let's go out there and find the products that celebrities are really using and seemingly not being paid. And so I think that's what I think is really important. in your own vacation and you don't want to be thinking about how your hair looks or feeling self-conscious about it. Hi, I'm Sif Hyder the founder of For Right. I'm a wellness entrepreneur and digital creator and this is my show The Dream Bigger Podcast. Listen, I love dreaming big but you know what I love more? Actually having the resources to make those big dreams happen. And hey, dreams can sometimes be private jets but other times they can look a little something like having the best skin of your damn life or starting a successful business or delving into spirituality. So on this podcast, I chat with experts and thought leaders from different fields about their tips and tricks on doing exactly that. Remember to subscribe, we drop new episodes every Tuesday, so see you then. The first time that Jill, you and I talked about this topic, you had called out a Taylor Swift lip liner and I'm sure we're going to talk about some Taylor Swift sleuthing that you have found in a little bit and I had done a similar TikTok post for Celine Dion. Okay. And I'm going to let you know what I spied on Celine Dion's top shelf. This was in her documentary, which is called I am Celine, I believe. Correct. Now, did you buy tickets? This is very timely because Celine is doing it. She's coming back this year. She's doing a residency in Paris. September, September, in October of this year. Nice. So I've been online. I've seen a lot of people talking about going, but this will be a huge deal. So yeah, you know, get ahead of the trends and now you know what she'll probably be wearing or bring back backstage. Exactly. So Celine Dion's documentary came out in 2024. Did you see it? Yes. It was so good. Yeah. It was so good. It was really good. It really explained some of the physical challenges that she's had and it was kind of like heartbreaking at times. Yeah. Absolutely. But I loved when she talked about making the shoes fit no matter what. Yeah, exactly. She was just like the pain is worth it for fashion. Exactly. But her vanity was like a cornucopia of products. And again, we've been talking about product placement, but you can kind of tell when it's unintentional where products are kind of blurry. Yeah, or they're like tipped on their side. Yeah, they've been turned sideways. So you can't quite see the label. I feel like that's when there's it's not probably an endorsement. Well, that's what I was saying about the Medacube not seeing the label or anything. It's just like if you know, you know, exactly, exactly. And this is where us as beauty editors really can lock in. Can clock in. So the first product that I noticed on her top shelf is the Orbei Super Fine hairspray. I'm holding it here. And this one is $46 US and $60 in Canada. And one thing that I will say is it's not the iconic dry shampoo. Right. The dry shampoo. That's not a dry shampoo. By the way, right. It's a dry text pricing spray. I always call it a dry. To me, it is. That's it's like the same thing. You know, banana, banana. I don't know. Right. But this one, I knew it was not the text pricing spray because the texturizing spray has the gold. Yeah, they look like hair shards. Yeah. And also like fireworks have gone on it. Whereas this one is just straight black. So the Super Fine hairspray is, well, exactly like it says as Super Fine. And when she is in the documentary, she's wearing like very slick back hair, almost like a ballerina bun. Right. And the PR confirmed that it was that product along with cream for style is a secondary product. And I actually asked them, I did fact check. And I said, can you confirm that this was not a product placement? And that this was strictly organic. And they did confirm that. So I think we can safely say Celine Dion, legitimate or a fan makes sense. And then she had a treasure trove of other things. The Tom Ford, so they blanc is a good summer scent, actually. It's fantastic for the summer. And it's so it's such an obvious one because if you know the Tom Ford fragrances and the little bottles, they're mostly amber. But the Soleil Blanc is distinctively white. And yeah, this one is so beautiful for summer. She's not afraid to spend the money on the fragrance. Let me tell you because this one is $300 US, $390 in Canada for this size, which is 50 mils. That's 1.7 fluid ounces. And yeah, it just smells like a dream vacation in a bottle. She also had a turquoise air and white floral this fragrance. Yeah, I can tell you some of the notes in it. The Soleil Blanc is a warm and sweet gormonde. It's a bit spicy. It has cocoa to mar, healing, healing and cardamom. And she also had a turquoise one next to it, which is probably the Portofino one that is famous. But because they have a few different turquoise ones, I could not confirm that. And then she had a bunch of other things. There was an obvious lenege lip sleeping mass in sweet candy, girl, and Abia royal honey treatment night cream. I was able to identify it was exactly the night cream. So apparently she's a girl fan. I don't blame her. She's very top shelf luxury guys. Yeah. And lastly, very iconic and obvious the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. This one's $105 US, $150 in Canada. And it has just been reformulated. Jill, did you know that? I did. Yeah. And that's risky business for such an iconic product. So the new one is said to be infused with a first-to-market, recover stem peptide. And I don't know guys like I saw some something's not right. I lie on earth, which Charlotte Tilbury touched it. There's no way. I know. And so I was like, maybe this is part of the foundations thing where it was that it's same ingredient. I don't know. But yes, I agree with you. There's something. Yeah, no, that's an iconic. The finder outer over there. Yeah. I guess her sense is that it's yeah. But I'm not surprised that it's so top shelf. But yeah. I will say, and I think we also should make mentioned, by the way, we are going to link to everything because we're going a little bit faster here. We're going to link to everything on our website. And this is also on YouTube. If you want to check it out, we're going to be showing what we're talking about. And like that's the thing we can't just we can't discern. Yeah. If this stuff was gifted to them, we don't know. And most likely it is right? Absolutely. I think that is a well-made point as well because there are certain brands that have entire teams. But we're sure that all they do is just send it out ad nauseam to a list of people. I think their fans are they actually out there buying this stuff? We don't know. Most likely not. The first move that would be made is that the PR would contact the brand. If anything, and request it. Yeah. And say, Celine Dion is a big fan of this. Can you send it? They probably send it on the monthly. I don't think so. I give Celine a lot. I don't think Celine would out I don't think she would request. I think though she gets a ton sent to her. And she uses what she loves. And that's on that. And she has our French Canadian queen. Quebec. Okay. So we also want to talk about, as I mentioned, some products that we were told first hand. That's a Liberty's love. And my mind instantly went to our conversation with Tracey Ellis Ross because she's a huge beauty girl. And she was just talking about her vanity. And she talked about her mask buffet on a Sunday. She's putting one on and then another one and another one. She talked a lot about biologic reshairs. And she also talked that she talked about Mae Lindstrom, who is an esthetician. She's an incredible formulator of products. She's been on our show. You have to watch that episode. She is one of the most incredible stories. And one of the body products because it is summer. I wanted to show this out that Tracey Ellis Ross adores. She said it's the Mae Lindstrom happy galaxy body oil. It's $160 US dollars to 18 in Canada. Yeah. These are like handcrafted. They truly are. It's like hand-batched craft saying that wrong. But yeah, actually has expiry dates like food on it because that's how to eat fresh. This says so. So I have one here. It says on it made fresh on the bottom. It says made fresh February 2012.
26. This smells like heaven. And what Tracy specifically said about it on our show, she said, "I love her body oil. I do it soaking wet when I come out of the shower and I slather myself in the oil and then I towel it off." Yeah. So she towels off any excess. But you guys, the smell of this oil is heavenly. And you can put it in the bath. Oh, and it comes out that blue, that kind of her signature. Yeah. So it's got Camilla in there, plum, metafone, blue tansi, which is her signature. Jasmine Yelanguilang, Dranium Rose, lavender, and citrus peel. And there's just so many people out there in the industry saying, "Clean this, clean that." If you want to talk about truly like, yeah, I'm not sure. Yeah. I don't really know how to say it, but it's like the process. Yeah. Yes. I've said before, it's like low pro, low processed ingredients. And it's just so stunning on your bath. I'm not surprised that Tracy Ellis Ross has this. Yeah. She also talked about how she loves the blue cocoon, which is her moisturizer that is like a solid balm to oil, kind of concentrate, amazing on your skin for like before after a flight. It smells like heaven. It has gone up a lot in price. It is actually $300 Canadian dollars now for one. So again, she has said though, she literally can't lower the price because they would be losing money. Yeah. You know, I say, "Oh, I won't tip my fingers for this." So it's like virgin blue. It's pristine. But I will say, maybe not for Rosacea, this one. It's, I find it on my cheeks. It's good. Yeah, it's a balm, but it is, yeah, it's ultimately it does have oils in it and essential oils. So you may not love that. And then Tracy Ellis Ross also said, "I layer moisturize around my face in a major way." And then I love, love, love her hydrating mist. It's unbelievable. So that's the Jasmine Garden Botanical Facial Mist, which again are super trendy right now, but made it at first. I love it. Kevin. Yeah. Kevin, have a. There's a whole aroma therapeutic quality to the brands. So if you believe in aromatherapy, if you like that experience, I personally do. I love a spa scent. It's really, they really nail it. And also the body oil, I would say, is incredible for summer legs. If you're the type of person like me where you need that juzzing to feel confident before going out in like the Bermuda shorts, I would, I would, yeah, that's precisely Carlyne why I wanted to mention it for like a summer episode because, you know, I'm not a self-tainer person. Yeah, but I love something like this right after the shower and it dries down like you don't feel greasy. Yeah, moving on. Yeah. So I think that a lot of celebrities in my opinion use professional skincare products. And by that, what I mean is esthetician recommended because I think they go and get their facials, which they have to do for their jobs. And they rely on estheticians to recommend products for their skin type. And it makes so much sense. And so that's why I think that when you do spot products on top shelves of these celebrities, like you said, the biologique reshare. I'll show brought this P50 lotion because we know it has been recommended and spotted on so many celebrities, top shelves. And Trace Hales Ross talked about BR as being one of her favorite brands. Yeah. And this is what I mean. It's like they're going, they're getting the facials and then they get sold on the product. So it's no coincidence. I think that on Justin Bieber's top shelf, what I spotted in the opening scene of his documentary, what documentary was this? Are you sure it was the documentary our world. So the opening scene, he gets out of bed. Hailey Bieber is clearly sleeping beside him. Okay. And he goes into the bathroom and you just get to see everything on the top shelf in the bathroom. Very intimate. Now technically some of those products could be Hailey Bieber's, but he goes in their brushes his teeth and there's some very obvious men's clone like Pascha de Cartier noir, which was a limited edition, very top shelf, you know, very chic. Interestingly, there's also a random bond bond number nine New York Knights clone. Which is they still make that brand. Yeah, it was a limited edition. I don't think that could be found. So lo and behold, there's a biologic reshair mask in there, which at first I thought was mask Viva. Yeah. But I really assumed in and I could tell by the writing and how many lines there were that it was actually mask V so latine. This is a long lasting moisturizing mask. So that was on the top shelf again. So you get that like probably given to him by a facial is sure. And then also L to MD sunscreen. There were a couple of those. No surprise, they're top top shelf. I love the L to MD now. I am a theme for the green tinted one because I have so much skin redness. So it just gives like a little bit of color correcting at the same time. I love the UV shear. My daughter stole it from me. My husband uses it. Call me L to MD. And he also uses, I spotted this because it was the exact same one as me, the Philip sonic hair diamond clean. I love it. Yeah. So that's fun. And I knew it was the same one as me because it's very distinctively in that little glass, which is the recharger. Right. Well, that's the old school one. Exactly. Yeah. But he's brushing his teeth with that one. I had it. So I know that's the one that toothbrush that Justin Bieber brushes his teeth with. But interestingly, there was one Sephora product, which is the polished choice, niacinamide 20% treatment. I'm holding it here. It's a little. That's a good one. I've used it. It's $55 US and 80 in Canada. And that was very distinctively on the vanity as well. And would have been something that probably wasn't recommended by an aesthetician. So I thought that was kind of interesting. Well, the whole time you're talking, my mind just went to this era where this documentary came out, but came out, how do we know that was Justin's because this could have all been groundwork. Haley was doing for road, which launched in mid June 2022. Yeah. Well, I don't think she has a 20% concentration of niacinamide, but I will say that's what I said. Some of those products could have belonged to Haley. Yes. You know, because I think Justin being coming from a proactive pedigree, if I'm not mistaken, I don't know that he would have been using that moisturizing mask from the illogic resharter. So I do wonder if that may have been Haley's. Right. Yeah. That would make sense. Yeah. In her, well, then she came out with a barrier cream in her own mask and all of that. So anyhow, yeah, that's interesting. Yeah. So that was my sleuthing. Okay. I love it. Bombas is supporting our show this week. And we did an episode back in October when the life of a showgirl came out and we talked about a lot of the items on Taylor's vanity that we thought she used. And at that time, it was before her documentary came out. Her documentary about the Aristotle came out in December. We did that episode in late October. So there's some updates everybody. The biggest update is about her lip combo that she actually wore on stage. And it was quite shocking. It was the most millennial lip combo ever. Because everybody thought she used pomegranate for years. And she still might. Right. To a degree, but not on stage. And we saw this herself putting it on herself. So this is, and we mentioned this briefly in the episode, in an episode we did in February, I believe. But the lip combo was the Smashbox B legendary line in prime lip pencil in true red. It's 24 US dollars and 32 in Canada. And what she used on top was the Mac locked kiss 24 hour lipstick in the shade Ruby true 34 US dollars 47 in Canada. And how I clocked this in her docu series.
was it's white. The smash box lip pencil actual pencil part is very distinctive because it is white and she had worn it down to this. The stub. And she was putting it on herself, putting it on all over and then she put this on top. Oops. Amazing. And I love that it's called the legendary as well. Yes. It's like the stars are aligning. Well, and I had made the video about it that then Vogue picked up and then I got a press kit from. I saw that from Smashbox that said at broken Vogue and I said actually. Oh, I didn't see that. I got a package from them talking about, you know, just like they were getting pressed around and sending it out to people for people to try as they should. But the little card inside said as broke in Vogue. Oh, actually, I am adjacent to this because a little backstory. I made the video as soon as I saw it. Yeah, I videoed the TV and I made the video. I think it was like right before Christmas. And that's how Vogue picked it up and they did give you credit. They absolutely did. Yeah, but I just thought it was a funny little full circle moment. I actually saw and shot myself in the back end. That when they approached us for some gifting or lunch and so whatever, they had said as seen on Taylor Swift in the documentary and I was like, "Okay." Yeah, yeah. No, it's, I mean, you let me bet. You see something like that. Oh my God, it's gold. At the time I'm in my video, I said Christmas came early. Yes. Smashbox and we love the brand. And I'll be interested. I mean, when this episode comes out, I'm pretty sure by now it might be Mrs. Travis Kelsey. Will she wear this on her wedding day? We don't know. That would be pretty iconic to wear red lips on your wedding day. I don't think she will. Isn't there some kind of a betting app we can use? Jackson, Paulie Market is calling us. I joke, I joke. I, I protect. I protect not betting up. I'm prediction. Yeah. I protect that she will wear pink for once. No, she'll probably wear a neutral. It is true. But I just think this is great. And I thought one thing Smashbox said about it was that their lip liner last through 40 songs or more. Oh, which is because like how she, how many she did on the tour. So I needed to give that little update and it does really last. Yeah. So that is really the best endorsement is when you see celebrities using products as opposed to even just on the vanity where there's still a bit of a guessing game like we said. Is it Justin? Is it Haley's when they're actually using it, especially in the wild. That tells you that they actually use it because there are of course the Vogue videos where they're in the bathroom. But those are so easily you could have like snuck in paid endorsements that are not disclosed. So I didn't look at any of those Vogue videos for any reporting. However, it is pretty well known that Kate Middleton was spotted in the wild using the Clarence lip perfector. Yeah. Lip gloss in the shade 01 very distinctive color. So that's how it was spotted in the UK. She used it back in 2019 at Wimbledon, but I have no doubt because of the you know, like fervor around what these what the royals use that people are still probably buying it based on seeing that of 2019. Of course, can't believe they still make that. That seems so old school. I know applicator and stuff. But it's honestly just so it kind of looks like a juicy tube like a like a juicy tube. Where it's just like you squeeze it. It's got this little spongy tip. Yeah. And then this is a very neutral peachy pink that you would imagine on Kate Middleton. So the thing about the royals is that they are not allowed to endorse anything. I forgot what the decree is. I think even being gifted things is severely frowned upon. Yeah. Yeah. Working members of the British royal family are prohibited from endorsing promoting or advertising any products. And I think that's why people are so interested because that's why when you spot this, it's like you know she bought it. She you know she bought it. She used it. It's like the J brand jeans, the smith blazer and the LK Bennett pumps. Yeah. It was all it was all unmistakable. But she never once ever told anybody what it was. But you can just do some simple deductions right. And now we know. Well, I'm pretty sure that there are blogs that are 100% devoted to just following these people around getting the latest photos and trying to decode. And you know, and of course now we have affiliate links. So these people are like I'm pretty sure I did find one of those websites is so janky. But you know that people are like swearing by it. And so anyway, it reminded me of Kate Middleton's wedding day, which we talked about with Bobby Brown and how she used Bobby Brown products. And that was confirmed. Bobby Brown herself did not do the makeup. It was Hannah Martin. And she revealed from Bobby's book because up until then they need her confirmed nor denied. That's right. Kate did her own makeup. And in fact, now we know she did not correct Hannah Martin did it. Yeah. And it's one of our more viral videos actually. Yeah. At the time. And this is just a sign of the time. She was like, well, it wasn't the thing to do to announce that Bobby Brown was used for makeup. You know, it was that whole idea that you wanted to be subtle, not subtle. I guess. Yeah. You want to be discreet discreet. You're you're respecting the privacy. Exactly. You know, so my how times have changed absolutely. And now we know people's plastic surgeons names anyway. What exact type of breast enhancement they had put in. I love when we do get to talk to real celebs on our show. And we had Lily Reinhart on. And if you guys are listening and you have not listened to that episode, I highly recommend that you do because she really impressed me. We didn't really know that much about her before we researched her and we talked to her. But by the way, her products, the personal day. It's her version of the road glazing milk. I freaking love it. I almost finished it. Oh nice. So because the road glazing milk from my skin, it's like a little too rich. Okay. For the summer, I've been using the personal day one. And it's a squeeze. Yeah. So it's easier to put on. It's not like the dump in your hand. Yeah. You can squeeze it in control. Like the packaging is good. You have an exfoliation factor in it. No, it's just strictly hydration. I love the strictly hydration ones. You need to get your daughter on that one actually. Okay. Yeah. Well, yeah. Well, the whole thing with a personal day, which is Lily Reinhart's skin care line is that number one, it cannot be irritating for acne. Yeah. So you are in the clear. And honestly, that is a relief when you do break out and somebody explicitly says you will be good. She works with germs and all that. But we needed to ask her about her makeup because she famously does her own makeup for a lot of occasions. In fact, she did a whole get ready with me video and did her own makeup for that BTS video. She was in like the K pop band. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, cool. So when she was on our show, I said to her, I really like your eye makeup. And she was like, oh, it's, it's makeup. I'm Mario and I, Mario. And I said, oh, is it the ethereal palette. I was like, no, I can't wear any sparkles. It's the, it's the matte. Yeah. So we now know that she legit wears these and my, I have the original right here, which is the master Matt's neutral palette. And then I also have the cool ones, which is very like 90s. Yeah. I love both of them. They're really soft, very blendable, not super pigmented. So they blend very, very well. And for novices like myself. And I think they are, and there's 12 one. No, yeah, there's 12 shades in each. They're 56 US dollars 84 in Canada. And Lily said, I developed a sensitivity to sparkles in the last few years. So this is one that I love. I tell you that I have the cool one in my hotel room right now. I brought it on this trip. So I actually use it too. And I forgot to bring a brow product. So in a pinch, I used to this gray on my brows today. Okay. Fantastic. So speaking of DIY, there is another celebrity who it's pretty well known is DIY on her hair color. And that's Pamela Anderson. Did you know that? I did know that I also made a video about that. Okay. And it went a bit viral. This was a few years ago. Yeah. I love that. I don't know if this was on purpose, but you picked all Canadian celebrities. Oh, that was not on purpose. But I'm feeling proud. A month of July. Yes. Yes. So Pamela Anderson's documentary came out in 2023. Pamela, a love story. I loved that one. That was a good one. It was so good. I loved the relationship between her and her sons. Yes. Beautiful. I really had almost like an epiphany about her after I watched it, which is I really feel like she's the modern day Marilyn Monroe. And away, this, the like persona that she created for herself. She's a hippie at heart though. But there's just so many parallels in terms of like her voice and how. Anyway, that's another story. But spotted in the documentary very clearly. First of all, she talks about how her mom taught her how to dye her own hair. And so she always does it out of a box. And there's a very, there's two scenes in the documentary that show her with hair color. And this is what makes it questionable to me on whether there was a paid product placement. So in the beginning of the documentary, she where she's talking about how she learned how to do it from her mom. She and her mom are in Vancouver. They're in the pickup truck and they stop at a. They go to shoppershark bar. Yeah.
And she goes in, which is like a CVS, and she reaches for a box of hair color. - Morale preference. - This is it here. It's the L'Oreal preference. And she says something, something, Scandinav blonde, right? Scandinavian blonde. Obviously she has, she's rocking this white blonde. And, and then she buys it and she leaves, okay? So I reach out to the PR and I'm like, oh, you know, can you confirm that it was this hair color in Scandinavian blonde? And they say, well, actually we represent Garnier as well. And at the end of the documentary, you see the Garnier that she uses because she only uses vegan and cruelty free. So I watched the documentary till the end and there's a very clear shot, not blurry like this one where I had to put my detective hat on, of the Garnier new trees, ultra-color PL1, which the PR is able to, you know, they say this is most likely what she use. They don't say that she did or not. - I see. - And it's like, it's such a perfect picture that I was like, that actually looks like a product placement. - Yeah. - So I went back to the PR and I said, can you confirm whether either of these were product placement, paid product placement or not? And they said, unfortunately, we can't because that would be the USPR that might know about that. - I see. I see. - And so they could not confirm, but they did say Pamela Anderson only uses vegan and cruelty-free products. - Okay. - Therefore, it would have been the Garnier. So it's a bit of a question mark. So I went back and I said, well, isn't L'Oreal in fact, cruelty-free and vegan? And they said cruelty-free but not vegan. So I don't know, guys. One of them was clearly a constructed scene. And it could have been the L'Oreal preference because this happens when you're making documentaries, right? They're like the photographer, the videographer, they're like, okay, now we want you to talk about this. So go ahead and reach up and grab that and then just go and pay for it. And this is sort of the scene in the documentary where you're going to talk about hair color. And so does she actually use the L'Oreal, or does she use both? - What I want to say is we need her on the show to confirm or deny. - Absolutely. - And she's been on a hair color journey. She went red last year. - Yeah. - So what was that? I'd like to know. She also works now with Biologe. So what is she using? - Yeah, you know. - Exactly. Come talk to us. - Yeah, she's a dream guest for me. Definitely putting this in the stars for the ball. - Yes, 100%. Okay. - Do you have anything else? - Well, you mentioned the Vogue videos that get on with me, get ready with me. I agree with you. I don't really use those as a direct source. However, the Vogue videos they do of what's in my bag, I think that those are more legit because they're more on the spot. And Bella Hadid actually did one of those and she recommended the U Beauty. Now, this is definitely a brand that seeds celebrities. - Oh, yeah. - A lot. It's called the U Beauty, the super hydruder face moisturizer. It's 168 US dollars, 229 in Canada. And she said in her Vogue in the bag video, Bella Hadid said, she pulled this product out of her YSL bag and she said, "If anybody wants the perfect moisturizer for the morning, this makes your skin out of control. You don't even need to put makeup on after it." And then, and then they have a similar product to this, the Jennifer Aniston likes the tinted version. Which is like a no makeup makeup idea. Now, this product has Shea butter in it, so I can't really use it as someone who has it right over here. - Yeah. But U Beauty has tons of products that I've fallen in love with that bio barrier mist. Love that. I also love the plasma lip compound, even though it's so pricey. - Yeah. - It's very good. - Oh, yeah. My friends asked me for that. - Right. - I would love to try the tinted version. I will show that. - Yeah. I have that coming in. And there's 11 shades of the tinted version. And to me, that tracks totally that Jennifer Aniston would be a fan of that product. So I wanted to show them out because U Beauty is very interesting to me. A couple months ago, Puck did a whole roundup of the top 10 products, being bought right now in Beauty. And they had at least two. That is, - Yeah, it is. - In skincare? They're not even in Sephora. So their entire strategy is to stay out of Sephora. So the other products in there were like in Beauty Project, the Extreme Cream. Things we hear about a lot. The resurfacing compound was the one that I really like. That's better for like exfoliation. And the reality is that Tina Chen, she has insane skin. - Yeah. - You know, she's like a good face for the, you know, she's not, she's walking the walk. She's walking the walk with skin care. Yeah. - All right. Well, our last ones of the hour, I don't have them here, but we were talking about Royale's Megan Markle. If you follow everything that she does, X Royal, I guess you'd call it, you know that she had with Love Megan. The certainly do. - The show? Yeah, I know you were a big fan, Jill. - It's my, what did I call it? Not comfort viewing. I had a, I had a funny term for it. - Oh yeah. It was so good. Comfort. Oh my gosh. It was comfort creator. Something like that. - Yeah, she was a comfort creator. - Yeah. Anyway, as she was doing many things with her hands, apparently her nail color was getting a lot of attention. - Yes. - And so she took it upon herself to share with the good people what she was wearing on her nails, along with an affiliate link. And it is the CND shellac in satin slippers. And CND shellac in Romantique, they were layered. And she posted this on her Instagram. - A little tea. - I knew that because I knew the girl who did her nails. - Well, it was never able to say. But that is 100% true. - Okay. - So I'm going to finish off with what I like to call the Swiss Army Knife of Beauty products. This is the Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream skin protectant. And we've had countless celebrities talk about how much they love this Reese Witherspoon and Victoria Beckham is like one of the biggest proponents of this. - Pat McGrath as well. - Yeah, makeup artist. Yeah, one is sold every 30 seconds around the world. And you can use it on cuticles. That's what I love to use it for. You can use it for a little glass getting glow, rough heels put on your face. It is amazing. And it was created in 1930. - Yeah. - So almost a hundred years of people loving this product. So standing the test of time. And nobody can forget in Prince Harry's memoir, Speaking of the Royals. He talked about how his mother loved this. That's how he knew about it. And he had to use this. - Prince is nice. - Do you remember why? And from the book? - No. - He had to use this on a frostbitten nether region. - No way. - And he name checked it. - Wow. So we know for sure that it is royal approved, Speaking of Harry and Meghan. Wow. And so this one is lightly scented to me. That is so iconic. I agree. I agree. And little fun fact, Jill, that was one of the products that inspired Kassat La Palmeide. - Oh fantastic. - My retinoid ointment. - Yeah. - As you should. Your product will be around in what's a hundred years from now? 20, I can't do math. In 2037, no. - 2137? - Something like that. - Well, some people will still be talking about your Kassat beauty on a podcast. - 2137. - I sure am. - So, but it was the time that I slugged with it. And I loved the results. And so that sent me down this whole road of the idea of slugging and slugging with active ingredients and barrier support. So I'm a huge fan of that product as well. - Well, I think this was really fun. - I agree. - And if you guys have any comments or if you have other celebrity approved products that you have in your routine that you love, I know we just touched the tip of the iceberg here. We didn't really talk about Rihanna or Fregrance and like all that. There's so many celebs that are out there talking about what they love. - But less than less. - Yes, absolutely. The more they own their own stuff, why would they talk about anything else? - Absolutely. - Unless it is paid-of-play kind of thing. But they can always come on our show, open invitation, talk about whatever you. - Maybe we need to be like a gym, gym, wall. - Yes. - So what's called? Where people. If you see a picture of somebody spotted in the wild send it to us, they will do a little. - Yeah. - You know, we'll do a follow-up. - It's really fun. There's a couple of beauty journalists in the UK that do videos that are a hashtag on sponsored products spotted in the background of the Kardashian show. - Oh, yeah. And that's always fascinating to me because sometimes they go to great lengths. They will. It's clearly L'Oreal, Elnette, but they will tape it up. - Yeah. They don't want to give anything away for free. - Oh, yeah. Right. - It was from our Fashion Magazine days. They used to always actually backstage. It was backstage when I'd be reporting at New York Fashion Week or Paris or what I have you. And they were there courtesy of a brand. Usually it was NARS or Mac. - Yeah. - And then anything that was not that brand was Black Duck tape. - Right. - You know, they'd be using it, but it had to be taped. - Yeah. - Classic move. - Yeah. - Well, we're going to link to everything we talked about on our website, which is breakingbeautypodcast.com.
