Hello everybody, welcome to episode 12 of Correspondent Week and on the final podcast of day 3 I'm joined by Europa Conference League winning. They've won two consecutive trophies in consecutive years and I've been waiting their whole lives for it. He's our Crystal Palace correspondent Rory McLaughlin, how are you Rory? I'm good, yeah. Just about ready to get started with this endless season of Game After Game again. I'm very interested in Palace FBL assets and I've been looking forward to this a lot but my expectations might be tempered a little bit which will come on to. But first let's reflect on the conference league victory. How was that? You were out there, weren't you? For the in-lapse gig for the final? Yeah, I've got my walk on jacket on. Nice. Yeah, it was great. You get on a pitch and steal it, did you? No, no, I actually, I bought it before we went but it is risky when you buy something like that. I didn't buy the FA Cup one but that's because it was white and you know that's not going to stay white for long. It's like white trainers isn't it? They will just get obliterated by. I went out that Misses is not happy with the amount of Tottenham white gear I have. Yeah, no, I'm very good. No. Yeah, so I went out there kind of a last minute thing because they expanded our allocation. I did declare an interest really early but it was phenomenal. It was really definitely worth it. I actually flew and really round about way. I flew to Bergamo, then to Prague, then got a train to Dresden, then a train to Lightzig, then on the way back I flew to Stuttgart to get a work and then home. So yeah, but it was definitely worth it. So you really went round the world? Yeah, my dad stole my Airbnb as well because he decided he didn't want to go to his because it was too far away so I ended up sleeping on a chair. But it's what it is. Yeah, the way you get ripped off with prices on travel for European games when they know you're coming is as an absolute liberty. But this is common practice for you when in trophies now, isn't it? Well, that was the consideration was that is either going to be a one off and we never do it again because we've never been in the European final before or it's going to be a great time because we want a European trophy. So I was like, either or I mean we also didn't have a podcast for winning the community shield. I was a bit offended by that. Yeah, okay, we don't like it. No, we're not we're not claiming that mate. How did it compare to city? In some ways like I would say it's kind of more of a relief. Like because that was kind of the expectation when you're in that competition. Chelsea obviously wanted the season before played up to the semi-finals with their beating West Ham on it. But throughout the five years it's existed. It's been a premier league team that's won it. So it's almost like an expectation that you win it. But for us obviously it's like that's our way to get back into the Europa League which we qualified for previously. And it did feel like more of a leaf. It was a very long slog though. Like the European season when you're not used to it is a very long slog of Thursday Sunday Thursday Sunday because every day either the day before a game or the day after a game or match day. So you are just like those wall to wall coverage of everything all the time. So winning it felt more like a relief city. This is an FA Cup final. We've been to an FA Cup final before. I don't expect to win this. This would be incredible. Compared to cities city was much much bigger because the scale of the achievement is much bigger. But this felt more important because it's almost like we had to win to get what we we deserved previously. And I think some of the some of the palace fans on Slack were saying I'm actually not enjoying this. And I think that was the feeling of a lot of palace fans. I mean you had to convince me that it was a good competition to be in the beginning and that actually really helped me last summer when you're like would you rather be in the comforts league because you can win that. And now you've got the reward that you've all felt you should have had last summer right exactly. And like you said London buses you know waited for 120 years and then one something and then to back to back. So yeah and now we're in the Europa League and to be fair as a palace fan it has felt a little bit like we're not actually allowed to enjoy things even when they're good because the minute you play well it's like well without players going. Now you you achieve something and then you have a good player like Alisa or something that's like oh he's gone now. So the minute you reach a certain level and you're like can we kick on that season everyone lives and then you win the FA Cup. Oh, what's Cass? Oh it's the DNCG the CFCB trying to work out legally what the implications are of all of these different things. Whether you are actually allowed to enjoy winning something the first time we won something we're not allowed to we literally won the FA Cup then it a week later. Oh you might not be allowed in the Europa League also you're not allowed in it win the community shield and the next day we got kicked out the Europa League. So it's literally just like as soon as you win something you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop basically. So for the team that won the FA Cup final gay gone, La Coye gone, Ezagon. That's it was Alisa already gone release that in place it was gone yet. But it might it might be more maybe okay how do you feel about Europa League now because one certain difference between Europa League and conference league is it release makes some proper revenue. Yeah, you share where you can't don't really break out and the conference league feels like you have to win it Europa League you you'll get some prestige pictures was really pleased that you drew for your own Tina. In the conference league was like at least make sure you have like at least one prestige fish. I know they're not what they were in terms of the backstreet team and so it was somebody to have their one beat for your own Tina. And then Shaq tells also obviously like a big club obviously they haven't actually been able to play in their country for the last three years or their stadiums like a 60,000 see to stadiums and it don't matter in a bit of a way to play there for nearly 10 years now. So yeah, you look at this one you look you've entered some a similar and because coma and Roma got the champions league places there so those are two huge clubs. Then Fika leather cousin even like a limpial got strangers so see that must say there's some big clubs in there but along with that it's like I said out come are we played last season in the conference league they're in there as well because they won the cup. You get a mix but you're going to you're going to end up with like at least one of them big ones that you said basically hopefully I mean I would like that but I'd also like to go through quite high I think there is a strong incentive for us this year to avoid the round of 32. Yeah, it does become a real that January if you get them to three mid weeks after the Christmas period is particularly handy. Well, it's it's February isn't it because those the two games are in January automatically last two league stage games between Liverpool and Spurs for us but then the round of 32 for us there's a particular incentive because the two teams we play then are ballmas and sandaland in February when the round of 32 would be. So if they were in those and we weren't in those we've got advantage if we were in the round of 32 and they're not we're a big disadvantage see. Yeah, we were starting about some players leaving of course the manager has left I don't suppose you had him rocking up at night and for us on your bingo card mate. No, no, I did think I mean this time last season you were saying maybe man United you know and that was the kind of level that we were talking about because Amaran played the same shape but people were thinking they were getting sick of Amaran largely because of his treatment of Kobe minor I think but yeah that was the level he was out then and then obviously we fell off I think after twenty after 16 games last season we had 26 points and we were fourth. And then we had a bit of a wobble a few injuries and Afcon and then he obviously threw his toys out the pram early January and then from our IDK's we were hearing oh he might be trying to get himself a sack because he wants to move on to a club in London so the assumption then was that maybe it was Chelsea or top then at the end of the season obviously we've won the conference league and then there was talk maybe he wants to go to AC Milan because I think they have everyone left higher up there and they've had this big kind of disagreement I think with Maldini and Jerry Cardinalo wanted Rav Raniak to take over and run the club like in a kind of red bull model and so they thought he would be quite high up as a director of football Raniak and then Glasner would be the manager and I think Baniak decided he didn't really take Zlatan and Jerry Cardinalo very seriously so he didn't get that job and then he ended up at forest and I think based on what I've read forest were kind of quite aggressive at constantly. I'm aggressive at constantly approaching him and he sort of turned the down a couple of times and then he ended up there in the end anyway because they have been 30 million years but if you think about it he started off man United and then maybe a little bit of a drop down to sort of Chelsea Tottenham and then as we progress through the season drop down to kind of AC Milan who are kind of huge club but a bit of a wound down more in terms of what they can achieve at the moment and then he's ended up at forest which is kind of just being what similar to palace when we just when he joined us I would say similar kind of prestige and similar kind of. Level of what you can achieve at the club so. They probably got more power than you. Well they've got no know who spend a lot of money yeah and they've got. It's going to say one club city but it's not really one club city is it but yeah they're there but obviously not living in London hasn't got that attraction and we're 14 seasons consecutively in the Premier League which is literally the biggest. I really like not to know I'd like to clarify that. The place yeah I like not. Yeah I've never actually been to nothing but yeah it's like we've been in in the Premier League for 14 consecutive seasons now so it's just the big six clubs and Everton that have been no longer than us. It's an arbitrary fee can claim how do you feel about Glacier now it changed the sentiment going I mean as in she's the manager that's one you do two trophies but now he's gone to the club who you've kind of end up having this built rivalry. because of what happened last summer. I think with Glasner, it's kind of like a lot of people that kind of emotional linked to him was severed in January. So what he did after the Mark Gaye thing, I think a lot of people wanted to see him leave then. And I was on the side of the argument, which was, "Well, what's the point in sacking him? Because who do you end up employing?" He's probably the person. If you sat in, he would be the best reagent on the market for you to bring in, basically, to try and win the conference league. So that would be the best manager for the group of players we have. You have that system, three, four, two, one. You build a squad that plays that way. It's then very difficult to pivot to it back for. Because your centre-backs are organised around that system. Maybe your central midfielders are as well. And we'll see, like, people pivoting into that system, it's not that easy to just pivot a regular squad, which is based on playing a different way. So with three central midfield players, that's very, or if you were used to playing, you have strikers that are set up to play two up front. And then you go to play three, four, two, one. It's not that easy to transition a squad over, and then transition a squad back to when he leaves. So the new manager plays quite similar way. Okay. PSAGE. Introducing to people. Most people are not going to be familiar with him. What's first impressions? I like him quite a lot. He's got. It comes across quite well. He is ambitious as well. So I think he wants to end up managing like a top club in the Premier League, and he seems to be quite an anglophile, like he loves English football. So what I like about him is that he's had jobs at basically every level of the football club. So he's been like a headscout. He's been like a technical director. He's been used to him managers. He's been a first-team coach. He's done all of these different roles there. And then he was a Leon when the owner was John Texter. And they had Fabio Grosso in, and he got seven points from 12 games. So that was the same thing that Fiorentina did last season in Serie A. So Leon were rock bottom of Leaghan. And obviously it's an enormous football club, but they had messed up so dearly. That's actually when they had like J.C. O'Brien and Dejan Lovren as the two centre backs, and Lackazette went back and they had the money-matchage. So he came in, and he came in at the end of November as an interim manager. And in the remaining 22 games, he got 42 points, which was the same as Paracensio Mann. So joint top of the league from when he took over. And got to the Coup de France final, which they lost to Paracensio Mann. So that was playing actually in a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-3-3. So that was kind of. And I watched a couple of the games back just to see what it was like. And it was kind of quite negative. So he can set up a team to be very well-drolled, two banks of four, narrow-tight. Playing against PSG-dos. No, just in general in the league. Okay, you watched. Not necessarily the games against PSG-dos. No, but it was because they had to dig deep and grind out points because they're in such a bad position. So then the following season, so they actually finished six and got into the Europa League. So he got them from 18th to 6th. And to the Coup de France final. Following season, he finished six than the Europa League league phase. So he got through in the top. Bracket. And then there were six then, league-un. But he got sacked by John Texter. And the main reason he got sacked was because he wasn't playing the players that John Texter told him to play. Because the way John Texter funded the clubs was based on transfers. So he'd borrow money to invest. And then that would be based on future transfer revenue. And yeah, if you're not playing the players, they're not going to go out and value. So you can't sell them. So he got sacked for not playing, among others, Wolfreds, aha. Which is quite funny. So he got sacked at the end of January. They ended up finishing six. So he had been sixth in the league. They didn't get better once he left. And then that summary took over at Llanz. Llanz had finished seventh and eighth in the two previous seasons. And the previous manager played three, four, two, one. So he started playing three, four, two, one. And he got Llanz. They were on a title charge for most of the season. Fellaway at the end. They finished second by six points. And the reason they finished second was they lost to Paris Saint-Germain twice. So against the other 16 teams in the league, they were actually level-point. - Match them. - Yeah. And they also won the Coupe de France. So won the French Cup as well. But then a three, four, two, one. So it's kind of, it's very similar, I think, without the ball. To the way we were playing previously under Glazner. With the press and triggers, where you end up with almost like a line. And then a pentagon. So it's like five, two, three. The ball goes out wide, throwing back jumps forward. Everyone shuffles across and you end up in a kind of four, four, two. But with the ball, it's quite different. So with the three, four, two, one, the two central midfielders. When you have possession for a while, end up quite asymmetrical. So one of them goes up quite high. And you end up having a clear six and a eighth. And then the two tens are wider. And the wingbacks go further forward. And you end up in a kind of like three, one, five, one. And the striker is also more advanced. The striker doesn't drop in or at least. And this is the other thing. He got odds and edge odds of score goals. So I know he has to be a good manager because odds and edge ball are the scoring goals in that league. But he was like way out ahead if everyone else on the shoulder of the last defender. And he didn't really get involved in build up that much. And that's because you're trying to. The wingbacks pin the opposition defense really wide. And the striker is very far up. And you're trying to create space up there. And I think it will be much better at breaking down a low block than it was under glazner. Because under glazner we had kind of strike plays built up where it was like, you're going to drop into this position. You're going to be here and we're going to do one touch passes round the corner. But there wasn't really any position in the final third. And it was almost like choreographed to some extent what you do. Or is this a bit more improvisational. And there's a lot more crosses in the box. So I think they scored the most goals from headers in the league. They also, which is good for the Premier League, create the most extra. They scored the most goals from corners. They had the second most XG from set pieces after Paris and she man who probably had more set pieces than everyone else. So yeah, they did really well. And one some trophies qualified for the Champions League, but then a lot of their team has left. So. We'll develop this conversation. If you take away that are quite interesting from an FPO aspect around certain individuals. And first you know thoughts on Max and Slacquard, who is the big sell really is obviously gone to Chelsea. How much of a blow is that to you and how well do you think you'll do that? I mean, it is a big blow because he's been a very important player to us. But I don't think he's necessarily like a serge centre back. So the choir is always more like you know the whole dogs and cats thing. He's more of a kind of cat. So he'd be like a kind of back foot player who blocks the runs in behind. With his pace, he's not very good at winning jewels. And he's quite average on the ball. So I'd say he's like a good Premier League player, but he's not really a Champions League player. So that's what and he's very much a back three defender. So that's why I think we couldn't get more money for him ultimately. But we needed to sell him kind of for the SER situation. Okay. Another player gone is Brennan Johnson. Swat we've dry McNeill. Dun and confirmed as of. We choose the afternoon at the time of recording. What you make of that move? I mean Johnson I'd warned you. Yeah. Yeah. It wasn't Kane. Yeah. And you actually think he should have said in January that Everton would have been a smart move from a ironically in that obviously ways he's ended up. And what you make him McNeill coming in is difficult to foresee how he how he fits in. No, I think it's really easy to see I fit in. He's going to be in one of the two ten positions. Okay. You're anticipating to be a star then. No, I don't think it'll start, but we'll rotate quite a lot. We've got Europe and I think SER has rotated a lot last season. So we're going to add quite a lot of depth at centre back and there will be a lot of rotations at centre back which may be for an FPL perspective will put people off Palace defenders because they rotated a lot. But McNeill will probably be like Pino but on the other side. And what we'll probably have is on the left side we'll have another SAR coming. Maybe guess on maybe this guy and G from Torino who've been linked with. And that player's job will be to run in behind. So at the moment you have Pino on the left ten and so on the right ten. And then if we play McNeill you'll probably have a left ten that runs in behind. And McNeill will be doing the Pino job but on the other side. And then sometimes he could probably play on the left as well. You do a very good job putting me off Palace players here mate. I won't get Palace players at the start anyway. I've got a phrase in there at the moment Rory. I've done a way of doing that. I'm switching my job. When are you while carding? Possibly quite late. Yeah, so if you're while carding and getting me three then you get Palace players in there. I haven't decided on a final strategy yet. But you have a good run towards going in sort of like November etc. I'm quite keen on. I think you've got players that can be used in rotation. But one of those players I want to use you'll think you're going to tell me I think might leave. So the question is are more players going to go? Yeah, but probably not too many more from the first eleven. So Daniel and yours has already been replaced. So it kind of makes sense to sell it. But we could end up selling Bornessosa because Mingueza who we got in on a free transfer can play left wing back. I think in the Europa League, he was Europa League team of the season. It's a left wing back. So he played there for Celta in Europe, but in the league he actually played more minutes as a right wing back. So he can play on either side. Bornessosa is not very good. But we've also got this guy called Anan Kalayli from Union Sanduil was. Which is Tony Blooms team in Belgium actually. And he nearly went to Inter Milan but he's a medical because apparently he has maybe a heart defect or something like that. Right. But he was going to go there what has dumb freeze replacement. Yeah, he was going to go there. Yeah. So he was obviously playing Champions League football last season. He looks incredible. Like statistically he looks incredible. He's twenty one and he's more the kind of player who's very good on the ball. Like he's he seems better defensively than Daniel Minioz in one-on-one defending. But he's also very good at progressing the ball through passing and his crossing is better. So. I think it's difficult to say Daniel Wynios is 30 and he's just played at the World Cup for the first time. So if you can sell him, his book value is about £2 million. If we can sell him and get like £25, £30 million for him, that opens up loads of possibilities in what we can do in recruitment. So you're expecting Daniel Wynos to go at the time recording the heavily linked with Everton? Yeah, I mean that came out from our side, that came out from because of the journalists who it came through, who I ain't known, who works for the sun, or he used to work for the sun. But that's come out from our side and that's kind of drumming up interest, I think, said Palace expect there to be a lot of interest in him. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to like Saudi or something to be perfectly honest and we get a good amount of money for him. I don't think, I don't know why pretty much any team would buy Daniel Wynios and play a backfall. Well, if you look at, if he did go to Everton, if they bought another left wing back, he could definitely play a backfall. Yeah, they've got enough centre backs. Well, they've got enough centre backs who maybe you don't want to get dragged into wide areas, so it would be a very low block backfall. But then also they've got relatively old centre backs. Yeah, maybe, that's the never in conversation anyway. So if Daniel Wynos is sitting in your draft, pretty much telling people worried, I've got to take him out. Yeah, he's not going to play Game of Thrones one. I'd avoid Palace and Game of Thrones one and two anyway, because we've not won away at Everton in 15 attempts and then we've got City. You can't just piss people off today, mate. Well, I don't know why anyone would, I'm going to Palace and my team. The only, the Palace players that I would say you could get is Milasar, Chris Richards, Tyric Mitchell or Dean Henderson. Okay, we'll come back onto that. But first, just be clear, Minguésa can play either side at wing back, can you cover centre back as well? Yeah, he can, yeah. Okay. Then think we'll get used to much as a centre back in the Premier League, he's not that physical, but he is six one. And you signed Tommy Asso, who was Arsenal. Is that, we did it in a potential right side, it's centre back here, E.O. E. can obviously cover a number of positions as well. I wouldn't think wing back was necessarily suit or any more. Not these days. No, so he was at Arsenal obviously and he had knee surgery, went back to Japan to finish his rehab and everything. But he did. He went to Iaxe, played a couple of games there. Well, I think he played nine games, we only had two starts, but then he played for Japan at the World Cup and he played three games. He played 90 minutes against Brazil. So I think he is back to fitness. He will cover the two wide centre back positions. But the other thing to think from our perspective is, is the Asian gold cup this year I think. So both Kamadan and Tommy Asso will both go away in January and February for a bit. Ah, ages away, isn't it? Yeah. From a fantasy football perspective, that's definitely one that's way off in the distance you don't have to worry about it, but it is something to consider. Yeah, so he'll cover that. We'll also sign two more centre backs. Right. Okay. So that's going to change up. So that would come back onto Brits and a bit. So you need, you're saying two centre backs. What else do you think you need? We'll get two centre backs of Central Methilda and probably another attack on Methilda. More in the star profile you're saying. Yeah. To play more in the, somebody runs it behind here. Okay. So you've got three forwards in FPO. I didn't catch his back fit. I think it would last you obviously forgotten a bame and he could play a slightly deeper role. The other two are out and out, Nine's in Matetta and Stranglass and Matetta 6, 5, Stranglass and 6 and catch your five and a half. I'm guessing based on what you said about other players, your expectation at this moment would be that Matetta doesn't start game week one. Yeah. I'd assume so. I mean, he was with France, so he got to the third place playoff. He didn't play in it. But yeah. I think there are a number of players though who have played for the final four to walk up. We'll end up, Stein, I mentioned Pedro Poros one for the tournament. I guess Larsen's only what a week ahead of him. Yeah, Larsen's the first guy to play in Norway. I've had him played a huge amount in the tournament. Yeah. So it's enough to put you off from Matetta at the start though, isn't it? Yeah, he's not going to start it. I don't know that thing, but he will come off the bench. I mean, that's the problem with either of them is if Matetta does stay, he's going into the last year of his contract, but they've been very Matetta front and center in the social media stuff. So he's been off, been off of the new contract. So it feels like that relationship has been repaired a little bit, but it was in finally a contract. I mentioned on the pod with Mark about Forrest, maybe Nockin. I don't know if there's a relationship breakdown between the two clubs that can't happen, but if Forrest were to give you an offer from Matetta that you felt was good enough, could you see him making that sort of move? I don't think he would. So he rejected them in January. They offered, I think they offered 35 million quid. That doesn't mean he will now. Well, he wanted to go and play for the event as Racey Milan, and he can't play through a European league club. So why would he go to a club outside of the European league? Money. Yeah, but in the years time he can make more money. Maybe. Maybe. But we've been niche because he's obviously had, he's been flagged in medicalism and it might be a little bit of a problem. I wasn't saying he was having a medical at Milan. Yeah, it was one of the two. Is he the Milan or UV? If you're in that situation, you get offered the big bump in salary. His career path might be that he goes, I need to take that. Yeah, but it could also be the case that his contract is by his next summer, and then he goes wherever he wants, forward everyone's, and makes a transfer for his signing on fee. So he could go to the middle of the next summer for more than he'd make playing in the Premier League. So you would think Strasn Larsson up front game, it won as it stands. Yep. But Matetta ideally is the first choice. In this system, so like Saj's system, they scored the most goals from headers in the league. As I said, like as well, I played up front and he was almost like a passive nine. He basically, so that's more Strasn Larsson either Matetta is better than Strasn Larsson outside of the box. Strasn Larsson is better in the air. Strasn Larsson is a better finisher. But Matetta is more of an all-round striker. So yeah, I think under this system, there will be 60 minutes for one and 30 minutes for the other, probably in all competitions if we keep them both for the rest of the season. So neither of those feel like assets, they're both minute risks. Talk to me about Saa. I'll have a bit surprise that that price of 6.5 that is in under 10% of teams at the moment actually. I mean, it's proven I could use it. It's a good World Cup. I guess concerns might be, again, he's caught attention. But there'd be a big move for him potentially, but you'd expect him to stay at the moment I'm guessing first and foremost. Definitely, yeah. Why do you think his ownership is so low? I don't know. I couldn't really explain it. I said, does he appeal to you? Because he appeals to me. Yeah, definitely. He will definitely appeal to me. I mean, he scored, was it 22 goals in all competitions last season? And we hit the World Cup 21 times in the conference league. And I feel like half of them were him. So he's going to get goals, yeah. He'll definitely get goals. I guess it might be an element of the fixtures right and having a city game week two and stuff. And I don't know. Also, if people have identified free hit four, that puts you off palli sassets by default. You think, oh, that's the good fixture there is Ipswich and I'll have some of them on the free hit to cover that. Yeah, possibly. I mean, I'm trying to think where did he score? He scored against Forest. He scored against Brighton last season. He must have scored against Filler. He always scores against Filler. You've had your squad and got injured against Filler, I remember. Yeah, he scored against Spurs away last season as well. F1 scored against last, that doesn't count. Did he score in the Newcastle home game? I don't know. So maybe there's a run there where he scored. He scores, goes against Liverpool as well. So yeah, there's kind of a run there from last season after the international boat where he scored in most of those fixtures last season. If there is a palace attacking asset, you want it. So to be fair, Pino, maybe. I feel like he's a solid pick. Anyway, listen to the teams you said he scored against. He's not like the teams that went down. No. He's not barely balls, etc. So I feel like he's kind of a bit fixed to prove from that. I suppose he said a good record against Filler and I think Liverpool historically, right? Well, you think the main thing you think is pacing behind against the Highline. So against good teams, he's got that. And what he added to his game last season for us was headers. Easy based on what you said earlier, though, tactically. Easy like you'd to end up further from goal and wider. I don't think so because such plays like there were kind of two systems. So it can be 3151 and then you might be a little bit wider or it can be 334. And you can end up with 110 popping up to be a striker and the other one dropping in. And that's what one wingback really high is it? Both wingbacks. Both wingbacks, I understand. In the front line, you could almost. Some people would describe that differently to a 334, I guess, but yeah, two up top. So 3141. No, that's what I'm saying. But yeah, you definitely, you definitely shorter players on that one. But that's the, the system through on 424, sorry. So he could end up being a striker in a kind of central position. I think you might have put me off in my. Firstly, do you expect you Pino to remain as a first choice star? Yes. Do you expect him to improve? He was excellent last season. So the returns, if you look at expected returns, he'd be really high. But the actual returns were not on that's because of Jean-Felix Matetta, essentially. He put the ball on the plate so many times. His chances created was incredibly high last season, big chances created. So Jeremy would be an asset. Yeah, if he's five-point-one-one-one. Yeah, so it's an underperformance, four attacking returns from an XGI, expect to be a 10 and a half. Yeah, and that's set piece delivery as well, especially open, what, free kicks, rather than corners, 'cause I think corners, it might be him. Yeah, he'll be taking corners from the left and water and he'll be taking corners from the right, but his free kicks were very good last season in terms of from deep positions. Okay, water has, it feels like an abnormally high XA. Last season, is that an abnormally, do you think it can continue as he value it five and a half, and I guess the repetitive question, do you think he'll stay? It depends, he will 100% stay. Sure. I've heard Man United noises overnight. The Man United noises are made up noises. Fine. It wouldn't be Man United, I'd be more worried about a train involving Roderie and Zephanandes and then maybe Chelsea, but I think they have also been close to Alex Scott. So they've been putting bids in for Alex Scott. Man United one won't happen because they've got two lemons and they've got minew and they think he's the same kind of profile. They need someone who runs around basically and wins the ball, but that's Man United's thing. Someone was saying, but it basically comes from someone who works for Talksport and I heard him say it like three weeks ago, he was like, and I'm really surprised there wasn't more noise around Adam Walton and then somehow he just puts his name there every time and then says nothing's happening as of yet, but people could move for Adam Walton, it's just like it's not gonna happen. Go away. - In this system now, I think you're, we've spoken about this before with your central midfield parent that they almost do, don't play in the penalty areas, they play between the two penaltyers, they don't really advance and get any box and stuff. But you're talking about that maybe changing now with one moving into that more advanced eight position. Yeah. Is that, is that Canada as the profile? It depends on who we buy is the thing because I've heard us linked with numerous central midfielders of different profiles. So, because Canada could be a consideration at five, can we? - Yeah, and when he joined us, I think we spoke about him getting goals from the edge of the box and we haven't really seen that in a palace. But it could be that's because of the way we were playing last season. Yeah, so the person, the central midfielders at Lons that was San Gare's, Guns of Brentford and the other one was Thomason. Thomason had better chance created figures, I think more than the six. So I think Warton will progress the ball from our third to the final third. And then it's possible. So, Thomason 13 shots on target last season, 80 chances created. So he actually had more chances greater than Florian to them, which is a surprise. So yeah, that could be that you can either, could potentially be an asset. - Okay. Other five, is any of these kind of worth mentioned something he's acknowledging for FPO managers, Lerma, DeVenny, SA, Matez Frances has been involved more in preseason. There's the Ducoray and Raksaki. - Okay, so DeVenny will probably leave. He's got one you left in his contract. Men have say I think has probably already gone to Club Rouge. Matez Frances will probably go out and loan. DeCuray we might keep around, depending on Lerma. Lerma might leave. That would be probably good for SIR and Raksaki will go. So pretty much all of those are gone. - Right, we'll use this four and a half. What's his chance of minutes? - He's played a bit in preseason, but that's largely because Warton picked up an injury and Camada went to the World Cup. He rotates quite a bit, so maybe when Europe starts, but no, he won't be a starter unless there's an injury. - Fine, okay, let's talk about some of these defenders. First and foremost, as it stands, who do you expect to pick up the Laquare role? - At the moment in Central Centreback, it would be Chris Richards. - Is that the reason why you like him as a potential option? - He's also the like most senior one, but we will sign two centrebacks. - So you got Richards, Cambo, five, your advice is against that at the moment. - For Cambo. You can get Richards, I wouldn't get Cambo. - Right, okay. - Yeah. It's just less of a threat. He does play progressive passes, but he's not going to get an assist. - I guess going for him at five makes you want to look at the Defcon aspect of that. I guess probably where I'm alluding to is, are you looking to buy a central centreback or are you looking to play players either side of him? - So the guy that we nearly signed, but then back to away from was the central centreback. So. - So you could end up, he can play any of them free, so in fact, yeah, we'll probably get a central centreback and a wide centreback. I think Conver and Readd will be in and out of the team, possibly. - Okay. A statement for you, and you probably disagree with it, but away his podcast is gone. Tyric Mitchell is the best 4.5 defender in the game, discuss. - He could be. I was listening to one of your podcasts the other day, and you were saying that he's 4.5, because Daniel Manuels is 5.5, and you need a differential. - It feels irrelevant now that the models might be going. - Yeah, well, we see what price Kalei comes in at. Yeah, he probably is. I mean, who are the other 4.5 defenders? - Are you expecting him positionally to be what he is? I think with Mitchell, he's always chipped in okay, I think. He does pick up the odd defcon because he likes attack or and stuff. Are you expecting him positionally to be similar to what he has been? 'Cause I just think ultimately he ticks over absolutely fine, but we've often, we have massive discussions about your defenders last year, and it's like you could make a case for all of them, but obviously it's Minos is the impacts on Mitchell, I think that's my point. My point is probably I think Minos should be six, and then 'cause Minos is 5.5, no one would buy Mitchell at five, so they've put him at 4.5. That's part the argument. I don't think he should beat that, but you've just massively put me off of everybody, mate. Well, last season Minos was 136 total points, and Mitchell was 135. So there's only one point behind, it makes an awful lot of tackles and recoveries and intersections. So he has a much greater chance of getting an assist this season. So you think if anything, he's attacking output could go up. Yeah, they're attacking output should go up. Because when, as you saw, if you watched the conference league final, if he's in an attacking position, he doesn't really know what to do. But from that situation, he'll be crossing. I mean, there'll be crosses from deep, so you know, like out swinging crosses that go in between the defensive line and the goalkeeper. And it'll be up to whether Strahan Larson or Matetta can attack that. But there'll be a lot more crosses into the box with Sarge. It is his position in the team under threat in any way. Yeah, 'cause Mingués has played left wingback, but if we do so many years, we've got Calaile and Mingués says the right wingbacks, then Sosa's not threat. Although Sosa could cross a ball, he just can't do anything else. Yeah, I understand. So I went to Mitchell last year, points per match, 3.6. Only two defenders at 4.5 outperform that last year. That's Euler Aina and Kenny Tete, and I would suggest they're both risks. Yeah, just never would've even start by the time game week one comes round. And in that sheet, it's a drop in terms of players that you would be comfortable with start at 4.5. Calvin Bassi at 3.4, and I don't think there's huge interest in full of assets. And then it's Matti Cash, 3.3. Cadioglu, 3.2. Well, where's Trayh Humonga? Probably, I would imagine in fairness that, I mean, it's not a pair 90 style. I'm just literally looking at the FPL website. I'd imagine that's influenced by one-pointers in fairness to Trayh Humonga. Because he looks like he's popping up in advanced positions. He is. We'll speak about him. We're spent to Baram and tomorrow. And then if that's going to last longer term, Mitchell, with my view, was a. If I may, if I may mean late, Ezer, solid 4.5 pick that can play when I have to, and if he's. Like, I think the value in Tyrick Mitchell, to me right now, is worth 0.5 more than the majority of 4.0 is going around. That's part of the discussion I was having with Alex Trembar from Patreon. Probably, yeah. And I think he will be a longer hold, probably than someone like Trayh Humonga, who's 4.5, Mitchell will keep the position for a long period of time. Yeah, I'm not as convinced as I was, though, mate. I have to say, so maybe if I want to be a bit of a palace best way, is the goalkeeper, is it? Well, he's nailed. I think Benitez also might leave the club the back-up goalkeeper, because he's asked to leave, because he's not getting enough minutes. I mean, we got someone. We got him from PSV and PSV won the league, so he thought he was going to get minutes. Are you, therefore, expecting Remy Matthews to be back up as it stands? Would you go back in the market? I guess the danger would go for another number two. Yeah, we'll go for a number two, yeah. So that was a 9 million double up, as like the insurance isn't like a guarantee of a palace keeper, therefore. No, Matthews will not be the back-up goalkeeper. Okay, fine. So Henderson at 5, it's consistent as, isn't it? Yeah, he is. I think we got a lot of clean sheets last season. Henderson's is one lower than it otherwise would be, because he didn't play the leads game where we kept the clean sheets at home. So Benitez got one of those. I can't remember if it's a 13 or 14 clean sheets last season, but yeah, and. Yeah, I don't know. He will make a lot of saves as well. I think the season maybe rest defense will be a little bit weaker, so we might be more vulnerable to the counterattack. Do you expect to concede more than you have? Yeah. Okay. Do you think you'll start with any palace? No. Do you think you will want to have them in game reform? Yeah. Are you potentially free here and then? I think I'll be bringing them in in game three. You do also have free transfers. Yes. Absolutely day. There's a few others that people might want to target. City Chelsea, a couple there. Okay. As it stands, we're going to speak to you again. Obviously you had a game week two and things might look a bit clearer as well. As it stands predicted lineup for game at one. It will be Henderson, Readd, Richards, Convo, Minguésa, Mitchell, Watson, Kamada, McNeill, Sar, Stranglassen. You think McNeill would start, yeah? Yeah, because Pina played, Wade didn't play in the World Cup final. Yeah. I can't understand that. He's not played yet in preseason, Pina. Probably played against Fryberg this weekend, but it'll be one game. Is there any chance that McNeill positioned just in game week one specifically? Is there any chance that's in catch up? Possibly, yeah, he's played in preseason. But Dwight McNeill has played in preseason forever, so he has had minutes, so he should be sharp. It'd be much easier to answer after the Fryberg game. Okay. So, firstly, Sunday football coming up, but it's a different, firstly, Sunday football. I know you recognise that. What does a good season look like for Palace? Is there now expectation because of what you've done, Tottenham, Villain and last two Euro leagues that you can go to the whole way in that? I don't know if we could, because you've got your vents, if you've got AC Milan, you've got Benfica by Liverpool's and you've got some big clubs in there. I don't think it would be because of what those clubs have achieved necessarily, but because of what we've achieved in the last couple of years, I think we've got a very good team. We've got a team full of winners, essentially. And I think the way the fixes are fallen for us are quite good. So the objective is obviously, get safe as quickly as possible. If you can get 25 points in the first half of the season, that's a good benchmark. Second half of the season, then you only need 10, maybe 15 points. And then you can concentrate on Euro, and I think the way that the fixes are fallen are quite good for us, because we don't act until quite late in the window. The first two for us, the two games where we've got zero points. We lost the way ever to, that was the first game we lost last season. And you know, it's City. Probably lose that game. But then we've got a good run up until December. And really December last season was where the wheels fell off when we got a couple of injuries, Sarmonyos and. Yeah, and that kind of schedule you had wasn't it? The first, you certainly choose the nonsense with the fixtures and the Carapagot Cup final. I could help to that. Well, yeah, and as much as that's something that could happen again, it will never happen exactly like that again, because it was because Christmas was on a Thursday. So we can turn Wednesday. If right and have that this year, it will be Thursday Sunday Wednesday. Exactly. Yeah, they'll have an extra day. So it won't be quite as bad. The best performance was the game on the Tuesday, where we lost on penalties away Arsenal. Yeah. Yeah, so. The way that this has worked out for us, I think, is quite good. I think it's just about safety. I think I'm okay with finishing somewhere between 10th and 15th. And then if we get to the final semi-final, even final with Europleague, there's an enormous success. It's a resinger. It could be worse than that. I think it's a good season. It's a resinger. I don't think so. I think I look around at some of the other teams and I think some. There's a lot of change going on and I think quite a few teams are sort of overrated and basically. It feels like. You're in this change now. I don't think so. Like from the outside, maybe it seems that way, but if you look like you mentioned there, the FA Cup final. That was. when was that. Two seasons ago, effectively in terms of the first team, we've currently lost three players from that team. If you look at basically any other team, they would have lost more than three players. So if you look at the underlying stats from last season, we were. What's this? 11th? On understat? Like. The 11th best team really. But you're saying, think, obviously, what you said about PSA, it all sounds very impressive, but you're hoping you're sitting there. I think we can see it more. And I think we've certainly looked at that as a strength for you as well. There's definitely players who can score goals in the squad as well. There's no doubt about that. Class of water. I really like Camada in midfield. It says, "No, I don't think you'd be in trouble." But he's interesting. I think a lot of people are throwing the narrative and we'll speak to Spencer tomorrow about say, "Sundereland." And the first is "Sunderestland." No one's saying it about yourselves and Bournemouth. Yet they're the one that's got the stability of the same manager. Yeah, but that's because. You can't get lucky every week for two seasons. When you got "Sundereland"?
