‘Creepy’ Chiropractor Recorded Little Kids Naked

Dr. David Hanson, a long-time family-oriented chiropractor in Batavia, Illinois, was arrested in November 2025 after authorities uncovered a decade-long scheme of secretly recording over 180 patients—including children in vulnerable states of undress—using hidden cameras in office spaces like therapy rooms. Prosecutors allege the recordings began as early as 2016 and were made in places such as vents and fans, where patients were unaware of being watched. The investigation revealed not only the video footage but also child pornography in his home, leading to serious criminal charges: 76 counts, including creating, disseminating, and possessing child sexual abuse material. Hanson pleaded guilty in September 2025 to related charges and faces 12 to 60 years in prison, with lifelong mandatory sex offender registration. Victims, especially children, have reported profound trauma, leading to a civil lawsuit filed by their representatives for privacy violations. The case has sparked widespread concern about trust in medical professions and the importance of patient safety and consent. In parallel, the narrative highlights how traditional security systems fail to prevent crime before it occurs, with SimpliSafe positioned as a proactive solution offering real-time alerts and monitoring to deter criminal activity. The story serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of abuse of trust, especially in vulnerable settings like doctor’s offices.

A dark and twisted secret that was about to come to light. There's no greater trust of that between a doctor and his patients. These children trusted him. He exploited them. The conduct Hansen is accused of is vile and abhorred. We have newly released body cam video from the case of a chiropractor accused of recording his patients secretly, dozens of times, in vulnerable states of undress, including children as young as toddlers. We're on the case. Presented by Law & Crime, I'm Chris Stewart. This story is one that might have you looking around a doctor's office a little bit more than you typically would to make sure that you are not being watched in a way you're not expecting. And frankly, that's a shame. Because trust is so important when it comes to medical care, especially the medical care of children. And this story is an example. Of a doctor who violated that trust in a disturbing way. You are not under arrest at this time. Right now you are being detained, okay? But I am going to be put you in the back of the police car and we are going to go down to the police department, okay? I have to put you in handcuffs because it is our policy, okay? But like I said, as of right now, we are detaining you for an investigation, okay? So you will go down to our police department. You're going to sit in our police department in our booking area, all right? While we continue our investigation. Do you have any questions about that? No. No? Okay. We're going to go back to this car. This is some of the body cam footage we just. Got in of Dr. David Hansen being taken into custody almost exactly a year ago. Hansen Family Chiropractic. If you or your family is in need of care, half of our patients here are kids. Up until that day, this is how the people of Batavia, Illinois knew Dr. David Hansen. He was your friendly neighborhood chiropractor. The owner of Hansen Family Chiropractic. This is a 2019 ribbon cutting video at his business that was posted by the local chamber of commerce. And on the Hansen Family Chiropractic Yelp page, they proudly display that they won the 2019 award for being the best chiropractic office in Kane County, Illinois, which is west of Chicago. Now, Dr. Hansen owned this business with his wife, and the couple has two sons. He was a family man, and that's how he presented himself to the community. The kind of person who you could trust because he was a dad. He had kids. Now, to be a chiropractor, you also have to be pretty handy. Hands-on. That's just how it works. And you can see here, I mean, this is a picture of Dr. Hansen treating a young boy who was fighting an illness. And here's a post that someone left years ago recommending Dr. Dave, saying that he specializes in prenatal and pediatric care. And this was a business that really advertised themselves as a safe place for kids, which is really disturbing when you think of this story. On the Yelp page, they show off the reading area for the children. Say they love that little reading tent in the office. Now, the social media for the Hansen family chiropractic business and their website, they are now offline. The business is permanently closed. And the goodwill that Dr. Hansen seemed to have built up in this community was eviscerated on November 5th of last year. Now, we were able to grab some of the images before the website was shut down. Just to give you another idea before I get to this body camera video of just how much trust this guy had in the community. There was a section on their website called Living the Hansen Family Chiropractic Lifestyle. And it says that Dr. Dave talks the talk and walks the walk by making healthy lifestyle choices by habit. This does not mean he's perfect, but it does mean he makes the effort every day to make good choices. But in reality, the choice that he was making that allegedly goes back to 2016 makes all the images that I just showed you of his work. The very Hansen. On work that he did with many members of the community, including children, very difficult to stomach. Prosecutors say that David Hansen secretly recorded his patients with hidden cameras in his office. Tiny little cameras. They say that he would put in different spots that a patient wouldn't notice. Specifically, they say he had cameras in an infrared therapy room, which is a place where patients would often be in states of undress, even naked. Prosecutors say that Hansen recorded more than 180 of his patients and many. Prize Picks Packs are here. Rip digital packs and get real basketball, football, and Pokemon cards. Many of them were children. The youngest was just three years old. Now, Hanson allegedly put these cameras in vents, fans, and lights, places where patients would have zero idea that someone would be watching them. Now, this is a scheme, also shocking, that goes back, according to prosecutors, to the beginning of 2016. So he was allegedly at this. For a decade. Now, authorities say this scheme came to an end in September of 2025, when there was a tip that came in through a cyber sex abuse hotline. It is unclear who sent that tip, but authorities at that point started investigating this beloved chiropractor. And then on November 5th, they moved in to arrest him. And here is the moment, November 5th, 2025, just about 7.30 in the morning, they pulled Dr. David Hanson over. How you doing, sir? Yeah. What's going on? Yeah, I'll explain it to you. I won't say I just gave you your driver's license. I lost it. Oh, you lost it? I just ordered another one. Oh, okay. Gotcha. What's your name? Dave Hanson. Dave Hanson. Perfect. Sure. All right. Let's go right back here for a minute. Okay. Thank you. All right. Dave, how are you doing? I'm Kevin. Dave. Dave. I'm Bryce. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. We're actually detectives. I'm with Kane. He's with Tavia. So we actually have a search warrant for you and your residence. Oh, yeah. So we'll sit down and explain everything to you. Rather than sit out here, we can turn the lights off and just sit in the car and talk. Is that easier? I guess. Okay. Yeah, because as we sit down, I've got some stuff to show you and kind of explain everything to you. Okay. And then we'll just kind of go from there, all right? Okay. Okay. Sounds good. Do you want to hop in the front seat? Do you need anything out of the car right now? We can lock it up just so it's not open or anything. Call it. I have a concealed carry license. Okay. Do you have your gun on you? Not on my body. Okay. That's fine. Just leave it in there. Yeah. Please leave it in there. Dave, could I have your cell phone, please? Yeah. Cool. Thank you. Yep. All right. You want to come back here with us? Here, Dave, we'll go over here on the passenger side. We'll get you in the driver's seat real quick. I'm just going to pat you down. I know you said you have a concealed carry. You don't have any other kind of weapons or anything on your right. No. All right. Just go on and put your coffee up on top. All right. I'm just going to pat you down real quick. Wallet, keys. All right. You're going to want to hop in the driver's seat, or I'm sorry, in the passenger seat. Now, I do want to let you know that I'm not going to be here for a long time, so I'm going to be here for a little bit longer. I'm going to be here for a little bit longer. Now, I do want to point out, as you're watching this, if you're wondering what's that mark across the middle of the screen in this body camera video, the police department that sent it to us after we filed a Freedom of Information Act request to get it, they put a watermark across that video, and we couldn't really remove it, so it left this kind of distorted mark in the middle of the screen. So please bear with us as we go through this story and you're able to see this arrest and what Dr. David Hansen told us. Now, as far as the video and what it shows, Hansen at first, he seems a bit confused as have pulled him over, multiple officers with multiple cruisers. And in that first clip, Hanson gets into a cruiser with an officer. Then about an hour later, they take him out of the SUV and they pat him down once more. Okay. Nothing else or anything on you, right? Yes, but it's in the pocket. Oh, it's in your pocket? Okay, I'm going to grab that out. Is it in your pocket on the other side too? No. No. They all free, like free floating? Yeah. Gotcha. No problem. That's okay. All right. Dave, like we said, okay, you are not under arrest at this time. But I am going to be pushing the back of the police car and we are going to go down to the police department, okay? No. No? Okay. We're going to go back to this car, all right? This holiday, all plans, even unlimited, are just $15 a month. A holiday deal this good obviously deserves an enormously expensive holiday. Like all I want. Right. Okay. We can afford that. All right, hold on up right there. Put your hands behind your back. Like I said, this is our policy. Okay. This is like I said, you are not under arrest. You're just being detained for our investigation. Seem a little tight. It was not too tight or anything loose. No. Good. Okay. Coming to the next seat. You want this in your pocket? Sure. You need something? You want these guys? No. All right. I don't need it. Okay. Yeah. We'll grab. We'll grab that. Yeah. We'll throw it back in your Jeep. On the day that Hanson was taken into custody, police executed a search warrant at his house and at his home. And the next body cam clip seems to show Hanson starting to understand what this situation may be about. And in this one, again, there's this watermark that has our company name across the video that we couldn't remove it. So just bear with us as you watch that. But I want you to listen to how David Hanson responds to officers when they ask if it's okay to take his electronics. Hey, we're going to roll your windows up. All right. On your car. Okay. Leave it open. Okay. Well, do you want to consent to a search of that car? I just want to get the electronics out of there. That's all. You can sit right here as they do it. I mean, I'll show you everything they take out of the car. I just, I don't want to tow it and do all that nonsense. I'd rather just get the electronics. All right. All right. We'll tow it. We'll get a search warrant for it. That's right. And those electronics would be key in this investigation and would uncover some very disturbing pieces of information about this chiropractor. And when officers asked him though to take his electronics, you can see there that Dr. David Hanson pushes back. So police say they're just going to get a warrant. They're going to be able to take his electronics. And they're going to get a warrant. And when officers ask him though to take his electronics, you can see there that Dr. They're going to be able to get it anyway. You just have to wonder though, as you watch this clip, what is going through the mind of Dr. David Hanson and whether he has realized that this scheme that prosecutors say that he has been at for a decade is coming crashing down as well as his life. I'm a patrolman. I have absolutely nothing to do with your case. I have no idea why you're detained at this point, but you are detained. That, that's, that's a fact. I'm, I've been tasked with transporting you to the police department for detention. Okay? So that's all I, I know nothing. So, but I can, I can get ahold of them to answer any questions. Okay. All right. I'm going to go back to the house. They told me to come back to the house. Just so you're aware of this. Dr. Hansen is pretty quiet as officers then drive him to his home because police are on location there and they are executing a search warrant. And part of the search warrant is being able to get information from his phone. So they hold his iPhone up, it seems, to his face to be able to unlock it and see what's inside. Like we said, we showed you in the search warrant, okay, we have the, is it included in there that we can put the phone up to your face to take off biometrics, okay? So that's what we're going to do right now. So including that search warrant, if you want to see that section again, I can show it to you, okay? We're allowed to hold up the phone to your face to take off the unlock and take off the stolen device protection, okay? Okay. All right, so that's what we're going to do right now. Okay? Okay. So that's what I'm going to do is the stolen device protection. What is the stolen device protection? It's just another security layer on your phone that we're just going to turn off, okay? So all I'll need is your phone. A holiday deal this good obviously deserves an enormously expensive holiday song like All I Want. Right. Okay, we can't afford that. You know what? Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Please say not only did they find videos in their investigation that Hansen allegedly took of 180 patients at his office. By the way, when we looked up the Yelp, it said that he had done more than 150,000 chiropractic adjustments in his career. So you wonder how many other victims. may be out there in images that we don't know about but again authorities say 180 is the amount that they were able to find in this investigation and on top of that they also say that they found child pornography in a search of hansen's home and that child pornography c-sam child sex abuse material they say it was unrelated to what was going on with the hidden cameras at hansen family chiropractic at this point police take hansen into custody and they take him to the police station and he has not been out since and it's going to be a long time if he ever gets out of prison which we'll talk about here in just a moment now initially hansen was charged with five counts of producing child pornography three counts of disseminating child pornography six counts of child pornography and three counts of unauthorized video recording of a minor through slash under the clothes you authorities then in november of last year launched a tip line this was right at the time of his arrest and they were just looking for more people who thought that they might be victims of dr hansen and they say in the first week more than 1500 tips came in then you have february of this year this case got taken to the next level because a grand jury returned an indictment of 76 counts against david hansen 19 counts of creating child sexual abuse material c-sam 24 counts of disseminating c-sam one count of reproducing c-sam 22 counts of possessing c-sam and then 10 counts of unauthorized recording then you have in september of this year dr david hansen admitted to what he did he pleaded guilty to a charge of producing child sex abuse material and disseminating child sex abuse material this is part of a plea deal he is 44 years old and he has been charged with child sex abuse material and he is 44 years old or he was at the time of his arrest and now he reportedly according to the chicago tribune faces between 12 and 60 years in prison he is slated to be sentenced on november 10th so that's coming up and if hansen is ever to get out of prison he would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life now following his guilty plea back in september some of his victims held a news conference with their attorneys outside the courthouse and this is what they said per fox 32 chicago i am no longer able to do things that i used to do without a second thought like going to try and close at a fitting room or going to the doctor without feeling anxious and unsafe and you just think of the impact that this type of case has on someone and how they probably now go into a room and look around and think and wonder if there is a camera that is watching them i mean it is a lifetime of trauma that this type of case can have on a person and multiple civil lawsuits have been filed on behalf of victims in this case so our firm romanucci and blandon has filed a civil lawsuit against the batavia chiropractor's office and its owner for secretly videotaping patients during treatment but the sad thing is that this is only one of the types of cases that we have regarding invasion of privacy this will be four that we have right now will take several steps we took our first by filing the civil lawsuit and there is already the criminal justice angle is in place with charges being brought against the chiropractors and the owner for what they did that is part of a news conference announcing civil action in the wake of dr hansen's 32 victims have said after hansen's guilty plea that they are going to continue to work with their attorneys to get justice for what dr david hansen did to them and their family members because you think of the children who are victims in this case dr hansen will next be in court on november 10th
