Couples Therapy with Patricia Kalember| Ep 62 | The Crew Has It
1h 2m 13s
The transcript begins with Edward Jones’ philosophy that true wealth lies in protecting what matters to one’s life, not just accumulating money—highlighting personalized financial advice as a path to lasting security. This theme is contrasted with a lively, personal interview featuring an actor discussing his journey from theater to television, emphasizing authenticity and resilience. He shares his experiences on shows like *Power* and *Vision Quest*, noting the show’s diverse casting and the personal connection it fosters. The conversation delves into deeper human themes, including trust in relationships, love languages, and emotional intelligence. The actor reflects on how physical touch and quality time are central to his emotional connections, and how intuition and observation shape his understanding of people. He also shares insights on cultural representation, praising the inclusive environment of *Power* as a turning point in his career. Throughout, the tone remains conversational, grounded in lived experience, blending entertainment with meaningful reflections on identity, authenticity, and human connection. The narrative ultimately underscores the idea that success and fulfillment stem from staying true to oneself in both personal and professional life.

Edward Jones, member SIPC.
From the studio that brought you WandaVision.
I was an Avenger, but I'm not a hero anymore.
The Vision returns for the final chapter of the groundbreaking trilogy.
That family wasn't real.
You sure about that?
I had a father called Vision.
How is this possible?
Don't miss the two-episode premiere of Marvel Television's Vision Quest.
Nothing bonds a family together quite like Mortal Jeopardy.
Now streaming only on Disney+.
I had to do last week's episode with Joe Sikora alone.
You didn't give me any backup.
You know, we had a little bit of a past.
Yeah, and I. And you left me dolo.
Yeah, you know, I was kind of nervous.
I'm like, damn, my boy's alone.
I don't know what kind of turns this could take.
You know, the animosity in the room could be high, it could be low.
Who knows?
You know, it's a kind of a gamble, but you got through it.
I did get through it.
I knew you was going to get through it, though.
I did.
I knew you.
The last one to the airport buys breakfast.
Buy breakfast.
Day one, day one.
Force is in full swing right now.
Force is going crazy right now.
So, Mike, I need you today to introduce who we got.
Yes, sir.
Because I did the brunt work last week, so I need you to introduce who we got.
Yeah, you was on one last week.
But listen, we got a very special person here, you know.
A character that she plays very crazy.
And honestly, she kind of rocks with me, though, you know.
Like, she took me under the wing, kind of.
She's like, you're not that kid, you know.
But I see what's, you know, I see what's going on.
I'm like, listen, no, you don't see nothing.
But listen, we got Patricia Caliber in the booth.
Thank you.
We got Patricia Caliber in the booth.
Oh, it's such a pleasure to be here.
I know.
So, we've talked a bunch about having you come on.
And we haven't been doing episodes in New York a lot.
So, now we finally got you.
And it's the perfect time because Force is on.
Episode five.
So, yeah, I want to get into a lot of, like, the power stuff.
Because that was a little before my time when you were doing the scene.
When he was 12.
Right.
So, I want to get into that.
But obviously, we want to start from the beginning.
Okay.
Because we always do.
You know, how you got into this profession.
Oh, Lord.
All of it.
I always wanted to be an actor.
But I just never auditioned for anything.
And then I was going to go and do law at Vanderbilt University.
I had accepted.
I was doing pre-law.
And at the last minute, I did the school play.
I played Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls in a really bad blonde wig.
Yeah.
Last musical I've ever done.
And I decided to go to Indiana University.
Like, boom.
And do theater.
And that was it.
And then you were just locked in.
And that was it.
And I got lucky and I worked.
Nice.
Yeah.
And then, so you already lived in New York or you moved to New York?
No, I moved to New York.
I moved from Indiana to Philadelphia.
Because I went to Temple University.
Oh, I love Temple.
Yeah.
One of my best friends goes to Temple right now.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I love Philadelphia.
Loved it up there.
And then to New York.
So, it wasn't so a huge, you know, move.
But I was talking about, God, I had a two-bedroom apartment, two-bedroom walk-up on 19th and 8th Avenue.
For $600 a month.
Damn.
Which is like $6,000 a month.
I know.
I mean, okay, it was a walk-up and there were roaches and water in the kitchen and stuff.
But you used to be able to like. Two beds and two bathrooms for $600 a month?
One bathroom.
But, yeah, $600.
It was rent because it was rent.
That's a miracle, though.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No more.
Did you struggle a lot?
Like, did you go through the actor struggles of like the waiting jobs?
Like all that stuff?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Because I. You know, I didn't go to Yale.
I didn't go to Juilliard.
And so I really. I waited tables.
I did a soap.
And then finally, I met my husband because he was directing She Stoops to Conquer.
And he had seen every actress in the city for the second part.
It was with Nathan Lane and Tova Feldschuh and Kay Ballard.
And I said to my agent, if you don't get me more theater auditions, I'm going to find somebody else.
So before I walked in the door, the casting director. The casting director turned to my husband and said, this is a favor.
And I. Wait, you heard it?
I didn't.
He told me later because I walked in the door.
He auditioned me and then he turned to the casting director and said, that's the girl I'm going to marry.
What?
I'm telling you.
And that's the way he's doing this.
And how, like, how did he shoot his shot?
He didn't cast me.
Wow.
That's actually smart because. Yeah.
He didn't cast me.
And I ended up getting another play that, like, did really well.
And we got together after that.
Wait.
So did he reach out to you or how'd that happen?
No, he didn't.
You know, he was directing at the time and then he called me back to another play he was directing, even though I wasn't free.
And then he came to see me in the play I was doing and he was so nervous.
And I was like, get in the cab.
Just get in the cab.
And that was it.
We just. My face is red.
I'm blushing.
I love that.
I love that.
I put my glasses on.
So what was the first, like, TV thing that you booked?
And, like, you started. I started seeing a little bit of. Attraction?
Yeah.
Oh, gracious.
God, the things I've done.
I kind of feel I'm the zealot of television because, like, if you name somebody famous, I'll be like, yeah, I did that TV movie with them.
Or my friends who are like, you're an actor?
What do you do?
And I'm like, oh.
Yeah.
I'm not famous, but no.
But you've been in everything.
Flip the dial.
Flip the dial and I'll have a story to tell you about, you know, whatever, so and so.
But 30-something was probably. 30-something was probably the first one.
You're too young.
I looked at IMDb, though.
I know.
You're too young to know about 30-something.
You can say a show that can. You'd be like, Euphoria.
Michael's like, I think I heard that.
Yeah.
He'd be like, Game of Thrones?
You're like, what do you watch now?
What do you guys watch now?
What do you stream?
I don't watch anything.
No?
You're an actor.
You're burnt out.
My attention span just sucks.
And everything, like, nothing, like, that I try to watch, like, keeps me droning.
Like, yeah.
Really?
Except for, um, I was watching, um. This new shit with Idris Elba.
Departed?
Or Departure?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Apple TV.
Oh, Apple TV.
That shit was fire.
I love him.
I'm looking forward to the next season already.
I finished that shit mad fast.
He's amazing.
If Michael finished that, I gotta watch that show.
I finished that shit like this, bro.
It was fire, bro.
Okay.
It's, like, full of a bunch of plot twists and everything.
So it kept me, like, drawn to the screen.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Certain things, I'd just be like, uh, okay.
How's your mom?
She's good.
She just left yesterday.
She did?
Yeah, she just left.
You have to tell her hello from me.
Yeah, she's coming back in a week, she said.
She's coming back in a week.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay.
She loves Jamaica.
She don't want to leave.
I don't blame her.
She's like, I love America.
Yeah.
I don't blame her.
Yeah, yeah, I don't either.
I wish I could live in Jamaica.
So how did you get started?
Have you told people the story yet?
Yeah, our first episode, Michael and I. You talked about that?
Yeah, because our first episode was just me and him.
But she wants to know, though.
I know.
But I'll tell you. Did you do theater?
I didn't do theater.
I was a hockey player.
No.
Yeah, and I grew up in Rhode Island.
Oh, in Rhode Island.
In Rhode Island.
And then. Okay.
Since I was really young, like, I don't know, 10, 11,
I was so crazy and out of control that all of the. I'm feeling that energy from you.
For sure.
I am laced at all times.
That's why we get along so well, because we're both laced.
I just feel like we're not actors.
We're just like guys who just got on TV.
Yeah, we're shot.
But I just always was like an entertainer,
like making people laugh, everything.
So I would say crazy stuff in the hockey locker room,
and none of the kids would get it.
And the coaches would, like, swivel their head and be like,
what did this kid just say?
So they would all. Like, people would tell me,
but you should do entertainment, you should do this.
And I was like, no, I'm a hockey player.
Like, I'm not doing any of that.
And then as I got older. I'm seeing Mighty Ducks right now.
Yeah, yeah.
What do you make of Mighty Ducks?
As I got older, everything was, like, pushing me towards doing this.
And then on my 19th birthday,
I literally just drove cross-country and did it.
God, good for you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They didn't know one person.
I literally just figured it out, and then. Wow.
Here we are.
I know, I'm in awe of you, too,
because I look at you, and there you are, 21,
and you started a production company?
Yeah.
When you were 21?
He was 21, I was 25.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay, but you've got this going, you've got. Man.
Yeah.
You gotta hustle, baby, you gotta hustle.
I think it's fantastic.
It's fun, because, like, it's not. It doesn't ever feel like work.
Like, this. It rarely ever feels like work.
When you talk to them, it's just like, oh, another day.
Oh, okay.
What's the hardest interview you've done?
I'd say for me, the hardest was Scarlett,
because there's not a, like, she. She's a New York rapper.
Right.
And she's very new, so there's not a lot of, like. Like, people have years of history.
And was she shy?
She was a little shy, but she was great.
Yeah, she was amazing.
It was an awesome interview.
Honestly, it turned out to be one of my favorite episodes,
because, like, I expected it to be a lot more, like,
contained than what it was,
and then it just ended up just being, like, a fire conversation.
We had a lot of fun.
It was amazing.
It was, like, a little point in the interview
where she just, like, started asking me questions.
She was like, why you did this?
Why you did that?
It was so funny.
That clip went viral.
Yeah, it was fire.
It was fire.
But it was hard, because, like, usually I go back
and I try and see some stuff, but, like, her. She's brand, like, fresh, like, brand new.
new so it's like not a lot of background okay and how often do you have to answer questions for your
character to the fans oh as you every day because i mean i've got to say because we like we have no
say yeah i'm like listen they made me do this yeah it wasn't my choice but not just that i like
any actor that says to me my character wouldn't do that i have absolutely no respect for because
it's like actors are us we you have to work to justify because the end of power when i like
told joe i don't ever want to see you again i get that was so hard for me because i can't imagine
anyway it was really being a mother and doing that yeah but i had to figure out how to make it work
you know and that's what we do yes yeah we recapped for 10 weeks which those episodes went crazy
right
um we recapped uh season three i'm so is it four or three did we just aired three no we shot all
right bro it's everything's up first we just shot four we just aired three yeah we we i remember
that we recapped three every week and not like because we were recapping we had to go back and
look at like what the fans were saying about the episode and this and that every week michael and
i were like not our fault it's like listen we're just doing our job yeah it's a funny thing we
always say we're like we're like if
if we just deliver the drugs and brayden doesn't accidentally drop his phone
tarik doesn't uh i'm trying to think of some bullshit you did this season
there would be no show yeah yeah if everything just went smooth all day everything was perfectly
fine as much as we wanted to be so smooth it just would be no show yeah you know drama will be no
conflict yeah should be ass yeah so and you wouldn't have to happen yeah exactly yeah you
know bullshit has to happen guys but sometimes we will see a script we're like i really this
really they're gonna hate me for this
i really gotta do this which he's got the the mvp of that oh oh man people were on you they were
ready to take you on bro back in back in like the original power i read the scripts and i'm like man
they about to hate me for this one and i'm just like fuck it let's do it yeah but then i've been
reading lately that you've completely turned that around put the script on and how cool is that
straight fly it's still a select few that kind of that are mad about you know you're not gonna please
everybody yeah you know you can't make everybody it's not gonna happen it happened honestly i'm not
gonna lie courtney is so good it happened immediately literally it was one episode in
the ghost season one and they were just like tarik did this because his dad was abusive everyone was
like yeah we're just like i'm done all right we stand with right they showed him like running
around school and doing having to do all this stuff and they were like you know what we feel
for him he loves his mother and it and it switched immediately i'm like courtney's so good at what
she does exactly yeah once she like once she made it easier for them to understand like the the reason
behind tarik's like pre like prior actions and stuff and like the reason he did things and she
just brought it to the forefront everyone's like okay maybe he did have a reason to do what he did
right i mean i'm shocked ghost didn't call you junior yeah you know what i mean it had that same
kind of vibe it was like so narcissistically attached to his kids his wife his lover his you
know yeah it's great it's fascinating
what so so when did the power audition come across and like when when did all that happen
when did you meet joe like i want to i want to hear all my gosh all right so i came in and read
and then they wanted me to come and do a call back with joe or like a chemistry yeah just like
and we just started that was for the pilot it was for the pilot no i didn't come on till like
the third episode maybe okay or the fourth um and then we just started improvising and
courtney tells the story she goes at one point i was like sitting in his lap you know what i'm
just like so wildly inappropriately attached right to my boy and that's kind of where they
got it and that's good yeah that's where they got it wow that's where they got it and isn't that nuts
and costumes too i was like i remember saying to frank frank i want you to think 15 55 and he's
like what are you talking about i said 15 from the back and 55 from the front and he went oh my god
yeah and you know all those crop tops right like your stomach's hanging out right just like
wildly wildly inappropriate loved being able to do that yeah it's the best and frank's the best
yeah love being able to do that yeah so so you you got the call that you got it so i got the call
back yeah and then i got the call that i had to dye my hair red oh so you're you're not natural
i'm not natural well so that all that red hair stuff was already in the script it was already
in the script wow it was already so i had to dye my hair red so i've spent years going back and
red i'm lucky i have a hair left in my head yeah yeah yeah yeah but um no that was part of the deal
she wanted her to be this like irish crazy and the deeper we get into it now i'm like especially
over the last few episodes about you know aa and where she got it and i was thinking a lot
about my mother and you know leaving a baby behind and and i think there was just crap
that happened to this poor woman and her mother never believed her and yeah she just went and
took to the pole and said fuck you all and yeah you know so so when when the when the power stuff
started happening um what did they give you for information about your character and what did
you bring yeah nothing right yeah nothing right storyline as far as like i mean i literally got
the phone call and said they need you for four seasons i'm like oh great like and you have a son
and i went okay and then i had to get on the set to ask the director
can i have a timeline like when did i have the yeah yeah and how is this because event because
you know and eventually you all figure it out but no storyline right yeah storyline storyline is like
yeah it's like yeah which is kind of cool because it's like life right i don't know what's going to
happen right i can't plan for what's going to happen in six months so yeah i kind of like that
too kind of like not really like knowing the expectations of your character but kind of knowing
like their place in the story and kind of what their like what their purpose is in the story
kind of it's kind of like gives like a little room of just like all right i'm gonna just play around
like i'm gonna just play with this and just see what i'm gonna figure this out because when you
kind of know exactly what like would um what they want to deliver with the character it's like all
right now i'm kind of like stuck to this one kind of like formula for this character but when they
just kind of leave it open for you it's just like i bet yeah you can see what works and see what
doesn't work to be the character and then they get to tell the story it's it's you know it's it's it
is like life

on the original power what did what did they give you like gosh and then what did you paint for
yourself i you know i just remember coming on and wanting to him to rat out remember that
you've got to tell him i've already told him because i need the money um and courtney would
ask me questions like like what do you think her house would look like and i said well yeah like i
think i'm home agoraphobic right unless i'm at a bar and there's lots of qbc shopping right right
going on so they had all kinds of like extra grubby qbc stuff right but then i found out
about tracy i had no idea who his father was i mean this is all after the reveal yeah everything
you know revealing yeah always after after yeah it's not the power universe if there is
a reveal every episode.
Exactly, or somebody dying.
Yeah, or somebody dying.
Or somebody dropping.
I know, I'm getting a lot of that right now
because I, like, got sober.
I'm getting a lot of, oh, my God, Kate's going to die.
And I'm like, I don't know.
But nobody knows.
None of us know.
So in the original, what was your,
what was the favorite scene you've ever done?
Wow.
Anytime I would get to, I think the scene with Holly,
when I got to meet Holly for the first time.
It's so funny, Joe said that yesterday, too.
You know why?
Because there was, like, a competition.
Right.
My thing was, like, you think you're close.
This is my boy.
You think you're close to him, watch this.
Wow.
Yeah.
And that was a lot of fun.
I mean, anytime Joe comes to play, you know.
Oh, yeah, for sure.
He comes to play.
100%.
And he brings his A-game every time.
And if you're, you know, and he, I don't know.
I don't know about you, but I like working with people
that like to play.
Like, you don't know.
Yeah, for sure.
Where you're going to end up by the end of it.
I like being a predictor.
Right?
We have a, I love doing this, but do people hate it?
We have a character in season four, next season,
who is probably the most unpredictable person
Michael and I have worked with.
Unpredictable in what way?
Just, he was crazy.
Like, literally as an actor, he's crazy?
No, he's a great guy.
But, like, as an actor, you never know what he would do.
You never know what he's going to do?
That's cool.
He's a great character coming up in season four.
But he was so fun to work with.
Yeah, yeah.
Because, you know, that's.
See, some actors don't like that.
Yeah.
Yeah, I like it.
Because if it's too planned.
It's like, bro, don't be scared, bro.
Like, just, like, do it.
Like, I hate when the actor's like, oh, you don't mind if I do this?
Bro, do it, bro.
Yeah, no, do it, stop.
Don't even ask me, bro.
Yeah, dude, just kiss my mouth, dude.
Just kiss.
Oh, sorry.
See, I don't know about that.
Now it's like, you ask me, ask me, can I do this?
And now I'm going to be expecting it.
Yeah.
And now it's just not going to be like, if you catch me off guard
and I'm genuinely caught off guard in the middle of the take,
it's going to look so, like, it's going to look so fire.
It's going to look like a film and theater in that when you're filming,
you want to capture that moment that you got in the rehearsal.
You were out late last night.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I love these guys.
We were.
You're so young.
You guys are so young.
I see Michael pick up the bottle of Don Julio last night.
I was like, Mike, we got three podcasts tomorrow.
He goes.
I think I was, like, asleep by 10 o'clock last night.
Oh, no.
Oh, yeah.
I was going to sleep at 7 o'clock.
No.
No.
Thank you.
I was going to sleep too late.
10 in the morning.
Oh, I love you guys.
But anyway, the difference between, I had to segue,
is that you have to rehearse three weeks in order to get those flash moments
and be able to recreate it on stage.
But for film, I don't like rehearsing.
Do you guys like rehearsing?
I like running lines.
I love running lines.
Rehearsals, to me, like, it depends, though,
because some rehearsals, like, you know,
obviously you got to block them out the right way.
You got to be able to, yeah.
Yeah.
Like, that's really all I care for is, like, blocking.
But I don't want full out.
Really?
Fully.
No.
No.
I want to wait.
Yeah, you want to keep stuff in the bag until it's really time.
Yeah, that is true.
That's what I do, honestly.
Like, when we're rehearsing, I read the lines monotone as fuck.
Like, when we're, like, reading lines, I'm just, like, I'm monotone.
Well, I remember the last thing we did was when you came up with, you know.
Yeah, with the gun.
With the gun.
I was like, damn, got to do this to Mama Kate.
That was in season two of Ghost?
No, that was three.
This was last season.
Yeah, last season.
Yeah, yeah.
That was three.
And I still don't know how that's going to turn out.
Oh, yeah.
Handing the letter and all that.
I have no idea.
Yeah, it's going to be crazy.
But, yeah, it's like, in rehearsal, I always give it, like, 25%.
Because it's like, if I give you 75, and I only got 25 more percent to give you after
rehearsal, what the fuck?
Yeah, but don't you think you have to be able to be with somebody who's willing to play
then?
Oh, yeah, of course.
Because otherwise, it's like, you get completely.
Yeah.
They got to be able to play, of course.
You know, blown.
Yeah.
And they got to be able to, like, you know, handle the, like, the, you know, the unpredicted
shit.
Because I don't like that planned out shit, man.
Did you have any wild, improv, like, unplanned scenes in the original Power?
God.
Oh, there's always.
Yeah, we do.
We would, you know.
I mean, Joe and I would just keep talking into the camera.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, you motherfucker.
I think just stuff that would, when he's pushing me, usually out the door is when we just end
up, you know, talking all the time.
I think, I think the one recent scene.
I, he closed the door and I left my purse inside.
So there was like, I need my fucking purse.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Fucking asshole.
Yeah.
Muttering outside his door.
But, you know, I don't know if that ever gets on camera, but we have fun doing it.
Yeah.
Sometimes you surprise what makes it and what doesn't.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Always.
Yeah.
Always.
Wait, this made it?
And that's the difference.
And that's the difference also between theater.
You're your own editor.
You know what I mean?
You don't have to depend on somebody choosing certain things.
I give my, I take my hat off to theater, to the theater actors.
Every chance I get, every time I get to say this, bro, I don't know how y'all do it.
Oh, really?
I don't know how y'all do it, bro.
I would be.
You'd probably really love it.
I would shit my pants on that stage.
No, I bet you'd love it.
We went to Into the Woods with, you know, Patina Miller.
She plays.
Oh, I know.
I know.
Oh my God, she's so good too.
Did you see her play?
I've seen her on stage before and I've worked with her before.
And then when she played rock, I was like, holy shit.
She's incredible.
Michael's, Michael went like, he was sitting next to me.
I know.
And she comes out and does the whole number or whatever.
I know.
And Michael just goes.
Isn't that crazy?
And looked at me and went like this.
I went, I know.
It was crazy because I'm like, I haven't seen a lot of what Patina's done in like in the past.
Oh yeah, I know.
So like, obviously like I know a lot of, you know, rock.
Like I watched Raising Cane a lot.
So I'm like, yo, she's dope on Raising Cane.
And then to see her like step into a whole different body, like Into the Woods is like crazy.
Like that's a different type of like bad.
She has a whole.
And wasn't she filming Raising Cane while she was doing that?
Was she?
Patina was filming Raising Cane in.
No way.
Doing Broadway.
Doing Broadway.
She only couldn't do one day a week.
Her understudy would.
And she was training for a marathon.
Yeah.
Like Patina.
I have to tell you, I worked with her briefly on, was it Madam Secretary?
Oh yeah, she did work on Madam Secretary.
Right, she was on that.
She was on there for like 10 seasons.
And I remember her saying to me, it was like 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock at night and she was
going to go work out.
And I went, where are you going?
Yeah.
You're going to the gym now?
She's insane.
I can barely handle one day of podcasting and she's over here doing marathon plays and shooting
a hit show.
Talk about a work ethic.
But I have to say, people that sing Broadway, I got a special bow down for those folk.
My whole family, all of Brayden's family, like Corey was in Jersey Boys who plays Trace.
Yep.
My mother, Angel, she is on Chicago on Broadway.
She's done a bunch of Broadway stuff.
Bro, they're all Broadway actors.
And it's so funny because they're all on set because they take it very seriously.
And I take it very seriously as well, but I have a different approach to the work.
They're there.
They got their lines.
They're like this and that.
And I'm pulling up, listening to music.
Me and Mike might be a little bit late.
I'm just pulling up to the set like, what up everyone?
I got everything on and they're just like, this fucking kid.
And they're just all preparing this and that.
That's just not the way.
No, wait.
What's my line?
Let me get some signs.
I was like, where are the signs at?
Yeah.
Then you see the slow burn off of the side.
Yeah, but that's how I work better because if I'm so, like Brayden is so loose.
So that's what we were just talking about.
If you're super prepared, it's not as much fun.
Right, right, right.
Not for film anyway.
Right.
But they're so great.
They're such great actors.
You're in trouble if you're not prepared for theater.
You are in deep.
We do too.
We've got like Chicago actors and a lot of stage people.
Over on Force.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, Joe was telling me.
Adrian.
But I met them all because I went to the 50 show in Chicago.
I met your writers.
You guys have the greatest fucking group of people.
Obviously, Chris, Isaac, I know.
Oh, I know.
We are so, seriously.
Like, you know, the women, we all get together and we have game night.
Yeah, fire.
Fire.
We don't do that much anymore.
It's just me and Mike outside.
Everybody's just like.
Everyone's just like.
Because half our cast is like married now.
Everybody's engaged and married and shit.
Right.
All the girls are like engaged and married now.
Okay.
Me and Michael cheat.
Uh-huh.
It's just.
Well, we were talking about that.
He's like, don't put that on me.
I don't cheat.
No, we were just.
He was telling me about this before we were rolling about.
I don't cheat.
I know.
I heard.
No, Michael doesn't cheat.
I don't cheat.
I take breaks.
Then I come back.
Is that how that works?
Are you on a break right now?
No, no, no.
Right now, I'm out the game.
I'm chilling.
Like, I'm, you know.
Okay.
Just so you know.
No break.
No break, no nothing.
It's just vibes.
You know, just chilling.
He's the funniest person.
But like, you know.
I wish people knew how funny he is.
He's really the funniest person ever.
We don't cheat out here.
That's one thing we don't do.
That shit is corny.
Yeah, I would never do this.
Well, I do think people, like, you're either a cheater or you're not.
Yeah.
And I think if you're a cheater, that's one thing.
But if you're not, you're honest about it.
Yeah, you know.
You're up front.
And if you are a cheater, you got to be honest about it, too.
I agree.
Yeah.
I agree.
Yeah.
And then if you're honest about it, it's not really cheating.
Because then at that point, you're just like, yo, this is what it is.
That's the loophole.
That's the loophole.
And at that point, it's just like, she got no choice but to really accept it
because you're keeping it 100 with her.
Don't you think it's got to be, like, mutual, though?
It's got to be discussed.
Nah, but me and Mike have a very hard stance on this.
See, my thing is, like, I can't get with that.
Why?
Because my thing is.
I can't get with that because, look.
Now we're doing Mama Kate now.
I want to know.
Yeah, look.
Because now you get to have an experience.
I was having a conversation with Shorty.
Yeah, yeah.
And now she starts thinking she could do the same stuff that you're doing.
Oh, oh, oh.
It's only one way, then.
I mean, with me.
I mean, with me.
Oh.
Listen, listen.
Okay, it's a double standard world we live in.
It's a double standard world, but here's the thing.
Me and Michael have this quote.
Okay.
When a guy cheats on you, he's horning.
He's horning.
When a girl cheats on you, she's not in love with you anymore.
Well, that's kind of true.
Yeah.
I'm afraid that's true.
It's a sad double standard.
So, I got to say, I got to say, human sexuality is wide and frequent.
Yeah.
So, you're going to find some women.
2023, human sexuality is different now, though.
Yeah.
It's different.
Yeah, but your generation is different.
I know.
Shit, crazy.
I know.
People do a lot of stuff.
I'm like, what's happening these days?
Shit.
All up front.
Got to be up front.
Shit getting scary, man.
I don't know.
But, yeah, it's kind of a one-way street with me.
That's so funny.
All right, Patricia.
I was just, never mind.
I was going to.
No, it's okay.
I like.
Okay, go ahead.
I like these little tangents.
They're fun.
They're fun.
Joe told me, he's like, you guys are going to have so much fun with her.
I was like, yeah.
What you about to ask, though?
What you was about to ask?
Do it?
Yeah, I mean.
No, I don't know.
I was just going to ask you about, like, what would you, like, would you search out somebody
who's cheating on you?
Like, would you go through her phone?
Hell no.
What you don't know won't hurt you.
Okay, good.
So, you're secure in that.
Yeah, no.
If it's brought to my eyes and I see it right there, you know, evidence, and I'm not looking
for it, then I got every right to be like, what the fuck?
But if you're going to look for something, looking for a problem, you're going to find
a problem.
Yeah.
I'm not looking for no problem.
How old are you now?
23.
That's really, really mature.
Me, I'm like.
I'm trying to get there, you know?
Me, I'm like, give me this bitch's laptop.
I'm like, what the fuck?
Why were you on this website?
Who are you getting on eBay?
Yeah, especially now, man.
Especially now with, like, Snapchat and everything.
Yeah, everybody's so accessible, though.
So, it'd be hard to not really be like that, but it's just like, at the end of the day.
It is.
It's all there.
But even, like, in photos.
I ain't trying to hurt myself.
I ain't on that.
Even, like, in photos, like, sometimes you see a girl, like, a photo, you're like, what
she like?
Now, you got to understand, though, because, like.
Oh, you mean, like, why did she post something like that?
No, no, no, no.
I don't care.
She can post whatever.
Oh, okay.
But, like, liking dudes' photos, you're like, mind you, like, that, like, what's the point
of liking that dude's photo?
Yeah, you got to understand, though, because, like.
Oh, who's his friend?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then, like, especially, like.
How come this guy's commenting all over your post?
Right.
And you, and you, and you.
All right, yeah, something wrong.
Because girls, because girls don't, look, look, because girls don't like niggas' pictures
that they're not really, like, you feel me?
Right.
Okay.
And they don't comment back to niggas that they're not really, you feel me?
Okay.
So.
All right.
That's, that's two red flags right there.
All right.
Two red flags.
Yeah.
And would you break up with somebody right away if you caught that?
Um, it depends, though.
It depends.
Like, I mean, a like, you know, like, I'm not going to break up with you over a like.
But, see, the thing is, the like, I'm nipping that shit in the butt because the likes turn
into other shit.
Yes.
And then it starts trickling down into a whole lot of other shit that you don't want to deal
with.
And now it's just a bad situation.
So once the like is, no, we're not doing that.
Do you know what I think?
I think, actually, we need to have a podcast about, like, everyone's dating life.
Yeah, I think so.
And love life on power.
Gianni would do amazing.
I think we need to start talking about that because all your, all the, all the women on
your show are engaged now, right?
Yeah, man.
Except for Paige.
Paige, you're doing the right thing.
Okay.
Don't do that.
Don't, don't be in a rush.
Like, you know what I mean?
All right.
I'm going to be 28 soon.
But I also think your generation, man, it's, it's, it's so different.
It's hard.
It's hard.
It's hard to trust.
It's hard to, like, confide in people, bro.
Like, it's over.
It's over.
You got to just find your favorite one.
And then whatever happens, happens.
You just got to expect it.
You got to pray for the best, prepare for the worst.
Oh, see, that's me.
Isn't that terrible?
It's terrible, but that's how you got to be.
I know.
I, I, I hope for the best.
I hope for the best, but, but prepare for the worst.
Yeah.
I'm the opposite of that.
I get told I'm, see, and I get.
I'm like, everything's going to be great.
Nah, I hate that.
And I get told I'm pessimistic.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nah, I'm, I'm like, yeah, I don't, I don't, I wouldn't say I'm pessimistic, but I'm just
realistic.
Like, people are going to be people.
I call it being realistic, too.
Yeah, and I'm not putting shit past nobody.
Wait, how old were you when you got married?
27.
Holy shit.
28.
I'm trying to get married tomorrow.
We've been together almost 40 years.
Oh my, and it's been, and it's been just easy, or?
No, it's never easy, but it's been, we're lucky, is what it is.
We're just really, really lucky.
I need that, too.
I fell in love, but now I don't know what's happening to me.
No, you know what?
It's an, it's an open negotiation.
You've got to, you have to continually rewrite the contract.
And you've got to want it.
Yeah.
Like, bad.
And you've got to know nobody's going anywhere.
Right.
Like, we know, I know he's not going anywhere.
I just broke my mind.
No, you're okay, you're okay.
I know, you know, and he knows I'm not going anywhere.
So you, you, like, it's.
It's sort of like being in prison and tied together.
Did he not, like.
To have that confidence.
Yeah.
What I'm interested about.
Is that, like, if you, like, obviously he's a director.
Yeah.
So he's around.
He's an actor, too.
Okay, amazing.
So he's around hot women all the time.
Oh, yeah.
And you, obviously, are around, like, actor guys who probably want, you know.
But I'm not a cheater.
Right, but I'm saying, like, at the beginning of your, yeah, at the beginning of your relationship,
was it hard to, like, for the first, like, five years to be like, he's going to go direct.
Yeah, I mean, there would be, like.
He'd be doing a play, and they're, you know, this relatively famous actor who's all over him.
And I'm like, oh, you guys are getting really.
Yeah.
Close there.
And then I'd just shut up.
I'd try to shut up.
Right.
Because you, you just can't.
You can't be jealous.
You can't.
You can't.
Can't.
Yeah.
Take note.
That'd be jealous.
I need advice when we get off this podcast, because I'm going through it right now.
Are you?
Yeah.
A little bit.
With the show.
Okay, you didn't tell me that before we started.
God, you guys are bugged out.
I'll wait for you.
You guys are bugged out.
Sorry.
Because I want to get into that, because what's going on with you?
I did, too.
I just don't know where it is right now, but it's the first time I ever got a girl flowers
in my life, and I've had two girlfriends.
Okay.
Yeah.
And where is she?
In L.A.
Okay.
And why did you buy, why did you buy flowers?
Oh, okay.
Yeah, let's get into this.
Let's go, man.
I slept over at this girl's house, and we just vibed immediately.
Oh, that's nice.
I've had a crush on her for a little bit.
That's also nice.
But we just vibed immediately.
And then all of a sudden, I got her flowers.
I was like, damn, bro.
Wait till you start spelling her name out.
I brought her J's in a bag.
I'm like, bro, I'm bugged out right now.
Getting the nails done.
I already did that.
You saw that, my close friend.
I see now.
I'm like, oh, he's turning into something different.
Bro, I got to stop.
You know she got you when you start spelling her name out in the flowers.
When you go on the website, you spell her name out.
What do you mean spell her name out?
You get a box of roses.
Oh, yeah.
You feel me?
And then it's, look, look, the outside is like red roses.
Is that your go-to?
It's not my go-to.
I did it one time for one in short.
And how'd that go over?
She loved it.
Of course.
Yeah.
She loved that one right there.
It was a good one.
But yeah, like, you feel me?
It's like the outside is like red.
Nah, Michael's elite with that.
Michael does a lot of elite stuff.
Yeah.
Because when we lived together, we lived together last year.
He's elite with the women.
Okay, wait a minute.
When is your birthday?
September 22nd.
Okay, when is your birthday?
May 27th.
Oh, all right.
You are both on the cusp.
Yeah.
I'm about to.
I'm like a Virgo Libra.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
It's cool.
Yeah.
What's the craziest gift you've ever given or gotten?
Gotten.
You know what?
Everybody's got different love languages.
Right.
And I am, unfortunately, acts of service.
I'm one of those.
Like, I'll clean the gutters in your house.
Really?
I love that.
Yeah, me too.
I love that.
My sister, my son's girlfriend does that.
She's, like, amazing.
That's a good love language.
Yeah.
That's just like. Acts of service.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's just. What's yours?
I'll cook you a great meal.
You know.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And what's yours?
No, you like special gifts.
Yeah.
I don't want to say that's my love language, though.
Because, look, my thing is, my love language is like this.
It's quality time.
Quality time.
Because I could be doing anything in this world.
Yeah, that's my husband too.
Like, honestly, truly and honestly, like, hanging with some of these girls, driving
my car fast with my friends.
Nine times out of ten, I want to drive my cars fast with my friends and hang out with
a girl.
So, if I choose to hang out with you. Oh, well, you need quality time.
If I choose to hang out with you and I give you my quality time, that's my love language
right there.
And I'm into you.
Okay.
Because I could be doing a whole lot of other shit right now.
Okay.
But I'm going to come chill with you.
Okay.
And I'm going to come.
You feel me?
So, yeah.
That's part of my love language.
It's a lot that goes into it.
No, there's always more than one.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But that's, like, the most one.
Because, like, I could do a lot.
Yeah.
I could chill with you today.
Okay.
For X amount of hours.
Multiple hours.
See, and it's good to know each other's love, like, because you can, you know, you can understand.
And now that I'm getting older, I feel like these days be going by so fast.
Like, I feel like these days are, like. That's because you wake up at fucking 1 p.m.
All right, bro.
But still, though, like. My youngest is the same.
He's still like. I feel like I got fucking eight-hour days, 12-hour days, bro.
I don't got no time to do anything.
Yeah.
But, yeah.
Quality time.
What would you say your love language is?
I. I'd say I like physical touch.
Like, I like, like, when she's, like, rubbing my neck or, like, you know, like, there's
just something about that that I'm like, oh, I love physical touch.
Y'all know the next time you guys go out, you're gonna have somebody coming up giving
you a back massage and shit.
Bro, this is, like, the most open we've gotten about anything on a podcast.
Oh, God, sorry.
No, no, no.
We don't care.
This is fun.
I tend to go there.
No, it's good.
We like it.
I like it.
Because a lot of the stuff we talk about on the podcast is, like, people want to hear
the power stuff, but, like, people want to hear what makes Michael Rainey tick.
Okay.
No, no, no.
Michael, can I tell you a story?
You remember the last read-through?
Remember we had the last read-through and we were all taking pictures?
Yes.
Yes.
Okay.
And you were. How old were you when we did the last read-through?
The last read-through. Were you, like, 17, 18?
That was the last read-through of season six, you think?
Yeah, I was. Yeah, I was, like, 18.
So there you are, you're standing next to 50
and we're all in a group
and you go, hey everybody
let's power
power three
and I'm like, Michael you do know
that's a white power sign
You didn't, do you remember?
I do remember that
Because you thought it was like season three
Don't you remember this is the beginning of the Trump administration
and all those creepy guys
were like flashing
were like flashing the white power sign
so I just said, Michael that's a white power sign
and 50 without like missing a beat
goes, how do you know?
How do you know?
How do you know? And I was like, dude
50, no, really, I'm just like
it's the Stephen Miller sign
it's the, anyway
I was like, oh shit
I was like, listen, I'm just saying
I'm glad you remember that
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Nah, 50's hilarious
He's like, how do you know?
Okay, so Michael, what's your love, what's your physical
touch?
Yeah, what else are we gonna talk about?
I would say that too, physical touch
I like playing in the hair
Okay, how do you guys feel about the whole
like, there are women in your generation
getting work done already
It depends
what it is for me
I mean, I feel like every girl has their lips done
which is fine, like, I don't mind that
but like, BBL, I mean
I love them, I'm not gonna
sit here and cap on the pod, like I love
a good BBL, but like
Oh, Michael?
Oh my god, what is BBL?
Brazilian butt lift
That's how all these girls look in like these
coke bottles
It's like fat transfer
They take the fat like right here and put it in your ass
No, I know what it is, but I just never knew the abbreviation
Yeah, BBL
Yeah, I mean, listen, to each his own, you know, you wanna do stuff to your body
you do stuff to your body, you don't wanna do stuff to your body
it's alright
Well, and the only reason I'm bringing it up is because you were talking about natural
and you were talking about, you know, being able to touch them
That's different
So I was just curious to hear what you feel about that
You know, I mean, you know
I like, obviously I like natural, but if you, you know, you wanna do something to your body, you do it
You know, my oldest son, I talk to him about this all the time
He's like, you know what?
Everybody's gotta do what they gotta do
Gotta do what you gotta do
Whatever you gotta do to make yourself feel comfortable with yourself
Yeah
I'm for it
There you go
Self love
I'm also like, I'm so oblivious
Like, this
I don't really give a fuck
We might have to cut this, but I'll literally be like hooking up with a girl
and I'll just be like, you know, whatever, grabbing on
and then I'll be like, I won't even like think about it
and she'll be like, they look real, they're real
They look real, right?
And I'm like, what do?
And she's like, like my boobs, like they feel
I was like, I have no idea
Wow
Like, I never know
See, and I would not have brought that up
Yeah, right? It's like
Yeah
Why?
I don't gotta say anything about it
You don't gotta say anything
Because I think they think you're thinking about it
So they watch
So they wanna bring it up first before you say anything
And I was like, oh, I didn't even notice
No, I would keep that
Like, there's a girl who I know from the UK
and like, such an obvious no joke
now that she said it
and like, I went up to visit her and stuff like that
but like, I never even thought of it
until she was like, yeah, this was pre-no's job
because she wanted to say it
but I was like, oh, I didn't even like realize
but then now that you look at it, you're like, yeah, that's obviously a fake no
Like, I'm so oblivious to any of that stuff
so none of that even matters
Don't you think somebody, yeah, you should be oblivious
I got the skin, as soon as I look at the cheeks
I know if it's a BBL or not
Yeah, that's a BBL
But no, those are shots
Wait, you need pants on or pants off?
What do you mean, cheeks?
Either or
Damn, dude, you got the eyes
I got the heat sensor
You know, like the thermal
Somebody's gonna come and take you boys away right now
I got the thermal sensor
Our podcast dad Dave isn't here today
so that's why we're kind of wowing out a little bit
Oh yeah, in fact, sorry Dave
Here's what it is, you didn't make it into the office today
so the boys are just bugging out
Oh man
So we'll get a
into a little force stuff
and then we can go, I kind of like this, this is a lot of fun
I like having you here
She's like, yeah
You need a feminine, you need a female take
Yeah, that is true
So when you saw that all the spin-offs
were happening, were you like
I'm immediately gonna be back, or were you like
Oh, I don't really know
Oh, I had no idea
I was hoping
Because you've been on Ghost and Force
So what was the first call that you were coming back
I first came back on
Force
Or did I come back on Ghost?
No
No, they talked about me on Ghost
They spoke about you, but you didn't come back
Which is kind of nice
You're like, I'm there
Actually, you know what, David Walton said this, who played my uncle
He's like, I'm there, but I'm not there
No, they talked
And then they called me to come back on Force
which I was really happy about
And I was really, really happy this season
that they've given me something
They've written for me, which has been great
And you've got to actually show
Because it's tough, you go on a show
You do a couple scenes, and then you're like, that's it
But you don't get to show what you can do
They're giving you some fucking awesome stuff
They're giving me some really, really great stuff
And Kate, God bless
Kate's always fun
I love Kate
But why? That's what's so funny
I mean, the woman is a crackhead
Two kids out of wedlock
She's an ex-stripper, but man
It's so funny, because you couldn't be more
opposite of who Kate is
But it's fucking so cool
It's so cool to see, because you're just
You're not that, but you just
effortlessly flow into that
Oh, thank you
No, I love her, I really do
What's your favorite role you've ever done?
Is Kate up there, you think?
Oh, Kate's right up there
Kate, and I played a really horrible
character no one liked on 30-something
And I really enjoyed that character, too
So you like playing the horrible characters?
I like playing away from me
Do you know what I mean?
I could get a phone call tomorrow
and do Uptown
Upper East Side
Right
Matron, and I just don't wanna
Yeah
I just don't wanna do it anymore
I don't wanna do, you know
I don't wanna do another Karen
Yeah, yeah
You know?
Have you felt like, because of Kate
you've gotten a lot of, like, those kinds of auditions
because you've played that before?
Even though maybe you wouldn't have gotten that before
You know what?
I don't know
It's really interesting, because, like
Power was the first gig I ever did
because I've done a lot of TV
Yeah
And I walked in
on day one
and the makeup department was mostly black
and the costume department was mostly black
and the crew was
it was the most diverse experience I've ever been in
and it was like, "Wow, this is the way it should be
this is very, very cool"
Yeah
Because I lived in the HBO world of, you know
And the Broadway world, it's so white
It's so, it's just a whole different thing
and so, for me, it's been fantastic
Yeah
And I don't know if you feel the same way about it, but
I don't know if I feel the same way
I mean, that's kind of just, like, who I am anyways
Like, I, it's so funny
I'll probably cut this, because
But we were talking about this last night
Like, I went to, this is rapper Conway the Machine
and he's, like, such, like, a hood
He's, like, a known OG
And, like, we were in the green room
Like, a hundred dudes
Everyone in there was just, like, smiling
And it was so funny
A guy, Garrett, who works on Raising Canaan
He, we were driving home and he said to me last night
He was like, "Hey, bro, you just, like, vibe in there"
Like, because everyone, everyone loves the show
So everyone just, like, accepts me anyways
Yeah, exactly
But, like, I feel more uncomfortable at a country club
than I do backstage
Tell me about it
But that's how I've been my whole life
Yeah, I know
Like, it's not a new thing
People think, like, I dress like this, do this because I've been on power
Like, this has been my whole life
No, I grew up in a country club
And it's weird how Brayden is so similar to who I actually really am
They say the right role finds you at the right time
Oh, that's cool
It's so identical to what I've, I've
been through in my life
Yeah
This is actually, this is a funny true story
I, when I was in high school, my dad used to do business
I still talk to his son because he's actually a great kid
But my dad used to do business with this, with this lawyer
And they had a house in Martha's Vineyard
So I went, his son invited me out
He's like, we're all going to go to the house in Martha's Vineyard
So I was like, oh, great
Martha's Vineyard is amazing
I went there and I was like, okay, I'm going to try and, like, dress like these kids
Like, because they went to this school called Moses Brown in Rhode Island
It's like, it's like a private prep school
And, um, they all were wearing, like, boat shoes and Sperry's and, and, and, um
Packies
Yeah, and, and, uh
And, and polo shirts
Yeah, vineyard vines
Yeah, yeah, vineyard vines
Yeah, yeah
So they're all wearing this
And polo
Right
And unironically wearing
Unironically, so I was like, I was like, I'm going to try and
This is a, like, I swear on my career
So I'm, I'm with them and, like, I just, I'm, I'm wearing their, the clothes
And I'm like, okay
Clothes of your people
Right, right
And then, so then, I'm there for, I'm there for three days
I go back to
Um, Rhode Island
And I'm staying the night at his house
Because we were going to go out that night
And I call my mom
And I was almost in tears
It was a true fucking story
And I was like, can you please bring me my clothes?
Like, my, my space jams are in, in the bedroom
Like, I was like, you need to bring me my clothes
Like, I did not feel
Like, like
It felt weird, right?
Bro, I, I, like, I felt, like, uncomfortable
It was like an out-of-body experience
I was like, please bring me my J's
I'm like, the fours are under the bed
I need to enjoy this
I need the G-unit T-shirt
You know what, what is it about
That you have to assume things about
About people by, by that
You know what I mean?
I mean, I feel like we all do
But, like, everyone
The second you walk into a room
You look at someone
And you assume something about them
Yes
And is it their job to, to, to break that assumption?
To disabuse you of that?
Or is it your job to find out
Who that person really is?
Right
I get it, I don't know
Nine times out of ten
You think you're right?
Sometimes, you know, that's a good question
Because I'm very confident
Because, like, it's been multiple times
times where I looked at a motherfucker
And I said, yo, that motherfucker's left-handed
And they turned out to be left-handed
That's kind of spooky
So I feel like I got that good intuition
I think I'd be knowing something
Yeah
But yeah, I was like
I could literally look at someone and be like
Yeah, they're left-handed
Really?
Yeah
That's interesting
That's the way of my life
Only about that, though?
Only about, like, whether they're left or right-handed?
No
Look at me, I'm like the claw
You're like
I mean, no, not even that
Like, even, like
Even just, like, the way somebody dresses, too
Like, because I'm a believer in, like
What you wear, kind of, like
You kind of express yourself by, like
What you wear
Well, that's true
I love that
That is true
I know, don't you see the Drake shirt?
Yeah
That your compatriot is wearing
Like the grassy shirt
Yeah, you feel me?
So it's like, I don't know
I feel like I'd be on point sometimes
My intuition would be good
But the left-hand shit
When I really debunk that
I'm like, wait
I'd really be knowing
If someone's left or right-handed
Something's wrong with me
Have you gotten along with every director's
Oh, I probably shouldn't ask that question either
Never mind
Who has gotten along with every director?
I sure haven't
Yeah
I sure haven't
And what were the
I mean, like, on a personal note
I always make sure, like
Anyone I'm working with
We're, you know, we're cool
But sometimes, you know
When it starts to
When you're starting to work
Sometimes, you know
Head is just bumping
It's just like
I know you're going for this
But it's like
Is it more about, like
Like a take on the scene
Or is it more
Like a personality thing?
Yeah, I'm gonna say both
Because, like, sometimes
We get directors that are kind of new to the world
That we've been, you know
Building
Yeah, that we've been building for ten years
And they come and tell us something
That's so inaccurate
And so off-point
It's like
I understand what you're trying to
You know, what you're trying to bring to life
But, like, according
Like, you know, going off of
What we've been building for these
For this amount of time
It's like, that doesn't really make sense
It doesn't really add to us
Our story
I'm not saying it takes away from our story
But it doesn't really add or make sense
So it's like
I don't think we should do this
And then sometimes, you know
Some people just be adamant on what they want
You know, it's like their work
So it's like, oh, we want this
See, and if you're a guest director
I just think you need
Yeah, you can't
You can't really be like that
You can't really be like that
I don't think you can step on toes like that
Yeah
You gotta really respect the world
That you're stepping into
Absolutely
Especially a show that's been going on
For ten plus years
It's like, alright
You gotta, you know
You gotta
I had a friend say to me
Because I would do
I had a friend say to me
I did Orange is the New Black for a while
Playing Natasha Lyonne's mom
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Also a horrible mother
Horrible mother
I can totally see you as Natasha Lyonne's mom
Oh, horrible mother
That's crazy
Just like completely
Just surface and narcissistic
Horrible
Horrible
And it's all about her
And what her daughter's doing to her
Anyway
But yeah, I had a director
Who did quite a few of those
Who said to me
Going directing
An hour of TV
Is like going to the gym
As a director
It's like it's not really his vision
It's not really or hers
It's like going to the gym
And working out for a while
And getting it in
But you don't expect it to be
Right
Well, because with television
There's already a blueprint
There's already a
There's already a way
That the show's shot
There's history
There's always history
Right
There's already
There's a way that the show's shot
There's nothing new, yeah
There's seasons of storyline
Before this
But as a director of the film
Of a film
That's your vision
That whole thing is yours
That little thing
You wrap it up in a bow
That's yours
Whatever you do with it
So directors with film
Is so much different
Than directors with television
Because there's already a blueprint
That you have to follow
You just can't come
And start doing these crazy shots
Because it won't match
What has happened
For the previous ten years
You gotta match the tone, man
Yeah
You gotta match the tone
So yeah
I mean, there's been some directors
But like most of the time
Honestly, like we've
We've gotten some great directors
But
Yeah, we do too
No, we've had
We've had some really
We've been really lucky
Yeah
Through our disagreements
You know, I love every director
I don't think
I haven't had a problem
Yeah
Even if it was a disagreement
We got to, you know
We fixed it
Yeah, I mean
And plus I'm not carrying the show
So it's a different
You guys are carrying the show
Joe's carrying the show
It's a different
It's a different thing
I get to swan in
And be funny
And cry
And go home
Have fun
What's your favorite episode
Of Force this season?
Oh
Is it out yet?
I'd have to say
Three
I really
Where they had me
Like really, really dig down
And figure out why
And what I've done
To the boys
You know
Yeah
I love stuff like that
Where they kind of like
Dig deep in
And they go back into like
Why is this like this
Why is everybody like
And that's what I
And I got an instinct too
I said, oh, I had a bad mother
I had a bad
Nice
Fucking mother
And then you just follow that instinct
And went from there
And they did cut
They had one scene where
And Shooter
Who I loved
Wonderful director
Had me going into a liquor store
And
You know
Panning
And then just buying
A pack of gum
And going home
So they cut that
And instead went
To the ice cream
Which was also kind of sweet
Yeah
And actually that was Joe
Joe came up with that line
Thanks to the ice cream
Hey
We improv
Yeah, we improv that
And my answer was just like
Yeah
At Edward Jones
We believe rich
Is about taking care
Of what gives your life meaning
That's why your financial advisor
Personalizes your plan
To help you preserve your progress
And create something
That lasts
Let's find your rich
Edward Jones
Member SIPC
Yeah, this is some of the best moments, man
That's cool
But there's some stuff coming up
That's nuts
Fire
Nuts
This season's been crazy
It's been
This season's been crazy
I was thinking back of five
And like what happened
In one episode
And I was like, whoa
This season's been crazy
I was like, shit
Dad's gonna be fire
It's gonna be fire
I've been excited
I got some fan questions for you
And then we'll get John out of here
Fan questions
Oh, okay
I love the fan questions
I feel like we haven't done this in a minute
I know because
We haven't had any power
Yeah, and we've been kind of all over the place
But
Okay
The fan questions are fire
This is the first one
All right, so
Brown Jessica 21 asks
What's been the hardest scene to film
On power or force?
I'd have to say the scene where
I think
Tommy killed Ghost
And I lay into him
And tell him I never want to see you again
That was the hardest scene
That was the hardest one for me
It's heartbreaking
That was heartbreaking
That was just hard
Because I also, like
I hated doing it
It was such a beautiful scene too, though
Because you see, like, Kate
Like, Kate's love for Ghost too
Like, that's her son too
It's like
That's the only way I could find my way into it
That's the only way
That's like, damn
Yeah
That was a fire scene
That was hard
And then also the one where I think
That they killed my grandson
Yeah
That was a little crazy
Yeah
Yeah
What was your favorite scene?
What was your relationship with Omari?
And in your mind, what was your relationship
Like, with Ghost growing up?
Like, did you watch him at all?
Like, I'm curious
Yeah
Well, you know what I'm saying
And then did that actually affect
What's happening now?
Was really
Yes, because it speaks to who Kate is
As a human being
Right
Because anybody that's actually
My biological child
I'm going to think as shitty as I am
Right
Right
So I can make a hero
Out of him
Because he's not from my blood
Because he's not from my blood
But the narcissist in me
Is going to be like
You fucking loser
You're just such a fucking loser
Because that's how you feel about yourself
So that
That's cool
Yeah
That's such a fire
Yeah
Yeah
That's tight
That's what that's about
Wow
I love that
Yeah
Yeah
But so you
Did you have a lot of scenes with Omari
Or a couple?
Not many
You know, there were a few
Yeah
I love Omari
Yeah
Such a nice guy
Yeah
Now you're thinking about it
Kate, Omari
Kate and Ghost
Didn't really have that many scenes
No
And that's why I kind of wish
They'd built that in
Yeah
I kind of wish
It had been baked in a little
Yeah
That would have been more
Because you basically
Like in the story
You basically like
You know
You raised him kind of
I did
Yeah
I was there
He would come
I'd feed him
Yeah
That would have been fine
More scenes
More scenes
Yeah
More scenes
My favorite
Was also getting out a thing
Of Stouffer's
And you know
Yeah
Putting a cigarette out in it
Yeah
That was pretty cool
Okay
And we have
Uncensored Thoughts by Tasia asks
Uh oh
Do you think Kate
Would ever give up Tommy?
No
Hell no
Ever
You know
Ever
I would go down with him
Yeah
I would go down with him
Kate is that
Bro
Kate was about to
She didn't want to talk to Tommy
About killing Ghost
Like she really stands on morals
And like
And like code
She stands on business
Yeah
She's never
She can't give up Tommy Allen
If anybody touched him too
I'd be like
Oh yeah
She's going down
She's going down with him
I would go down with the chef for sure
Hell yeah
Yeah
Thank you so much
For coming on
You're welcome
Thank you
This was great
We actually kind of got deep in this
Which is
We got real personal
Yeah I'm sorry
No no no
We loved it
As long as y'all are like
You know
We'll talk about that kind of stuff
It's great
You can come over anytime
We'll have a cup
Next time you have a problem
With your girlfriends
Just come
You don't want to give me your number
Give me your phone
Because I'm going to be like
Why won't she text me back?
I'm down bad right now boys
Alright Mike
Let's plug what we got here
Which is
What's your Instagram?
Oh
Patricia Callenberg
Isn't it?
Yeah
I think so
Double check
Right now
We don't know
What's happening with that
With the actor strike
So we're not going to promote
Any dates on any shows
That might be over with
By the time this episode airs
We hope
Two weeks
We hope
We hope
Yes we hope
God willing
So we're still not going to promote
Because we're part of our union
But Instagram
And it's really important
Michael Rayner
Go Rainey Jr., do your thing.
I'm going to find Patricia's Instagram for you guys.
She doesn't even know it.
Because I don't even know.
I'm bad.
It's Patricia Callenberg.
No at, right?
No at, no.
Don't come at me.
There's an at, but there's no underscore.
So it's Patricia Callenberg.
Just shot you a follow.
All right.
Fire.
Michael?
So listen, man.
Like he said, we still, you know, the actors are still striking.
But shout out to the writers.
Y'all got y'all's, you know, y'all deal resolved and everything.
So shout out to the writers.
Congratulations to y'all.
And we up next, man.
Hopefully we get a, you know, we get to settle this very soon.
You know, very sooner than later.
It's important.
Yeah, we need it.
We have to.
Then we can do some forced recap.
We can do some fun stuff.
Yeah, we can go crazy.
We can actually do what we want to do with this podcast.
Right now we can't really do anything because a lot of things that we're thinking about
doing is like kind of entails, you know, promoting further, you know.
And we can't really do any of that right now.
Right.
But I'm on Instagram, MichaelRennyJr.
Where's 22 if you want to get a little cooler side of it.
I have to go find you.
Yeah.
I'm going to find you first.
Where's 22 on YouTube.
Yeah.
We got to drop a vlog soon.
I'm going to knock you out because everybody's asking me for a vlog.
I think you dropped one a couple of days ago, didn't you?
I don't know.
I got to check.
I got to check.
But yeah, go follow your boy, man.
A lot of stuff.
Thank you, guys.
Oh, and 22 Joey is out right now, too.
Yes.
My first executively produced album, Body of Music by me.
I executive produced it.
And my boy, Roof Face Joey, is the artist on it.
And it's going crazy right now.
So if you haven't heard it yet, go listen to that.
Executive produced by your boy.
Gianni V. Paolo, Instagram.
TikTok.
Raya.
All that stuff.
What is Raya?
Raya is such a moron.
It's a dating app.
No.
It's like a dating app.
Come on.
Come on.
After everything we've talked about.
I know.
I just can't stop being a scumbag.
I love her.
What do I do?
Gianni V. Paolo.
Vlog's coming out soon.
Wow.
I hope I'm alive in two weeks because this girl is ruining my fucking weeks.
I love you all.
Michael, give us one.
The crew has it, baby.
Thank you, Patricia.
The crew has it.
And you have it.
Thank you, Patricia.
Thank you.
Woo!
Yeah, he said Instagram.
