Communist Islamic Revolutionaries Are Up for Election | Victor Davis Hanson

Victor Davis Hanson presents a detailed analysis of Donald Trump's political resurgence, positioning him not as a revolutionary but as a counter-revolutionary seeking to dismantle the progressive policies of the past five decades. He argues that Trump survived a concerted, multi-faceted attack from Democrats, including civil and criminal lawsuits, financial raids, and media suppression, by leveraging superior organization, relentless campaigning, and a clear message focused on root causes rather than symptoms. The book *The Counter-Revolution* traces Trump’s comeback from January 6 onward, highlighting how he rebuilt his team, reinvigorated his base, and won the 2024 election despite early polling doubts. Hanson critiques Kamala Harris as unprepared, inauthentic, and ideologically compromised, citing her lack of policy depth, political missteps, and possible sabotage from within the Biden administration. He emphasizes that the current political climate is marked by strong economic growth—3.4% GDP in Q3, falling oil prices, and low unemployment—offering a contrast to economic stagnation under prior administrations. Hanson also warns that leftist movements, including socialist and Islamist factions, have no record of statewide success and would be destabilizing if they achieved power. Ultimately, he frames the election as a pivotal moment in American politics, where a disciplined, populist counter-revolution has overcome a politically and economically weakened Democratic establishment. The narrative underscores the idea that the electoral outcome reflects not just policy preferences, but deeper ideological battles over governance, national identity, and economic freedom.

These are not Democrats. These are not crazy Democrats. These are Socialist Communists, Islamists, revolutionaries. They have never won a statewide race. If they get a statewide victory, they will be unstoppable as far as a Democratic party. And they will brag that they won. They won a state governor. And that's exactly what drives a left-wing mind. Any means necessary for their superior moral objective. [music] Hello and welcome. This is Victor Davis Hansen in his own words. This is our Saturday edition. Victor is looking at presidents in the Saturday editions now. And we are on Woodrow Wilson and James Garfield. So we'll hear from Victor in one of our middle segments. But we have lots of news left from the week. We're going to start with the economy and the elections in Israel. So stay with us for those stories and we'll be right back. Hello, this is Victor Davis Hansen for the Daily Signal. I have a new book out on September 8th of this year. And I think you're going to enjoy it. It's called Counter Revolution. The fall and rise of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. It starts right after January 6th. And it details the lack of popularity of Donald Trump, the invective that he endured, the five civil and criminal trials, the effort to get him off the ballot, the raid on Marlago, the two impeachments earlier, one in which he was tried as a private citizen, and yet he came back. How did he come back? And why did he come back? I explain in the book how he defeated his primary opponents, how he was outspent. He had a hostile media and he defeated the Democratic machine and Camela Harris. It starts on January 6th. It ends pretty much now in May of 2026. What's the title about? Donald Trump is not a revolutionary. He's not a revisionist. He's a counter-revolutionary. This time around, he is not addressing just the symptoms of the progressive project of the last 50 years. He's talking about the causes. Not just an open border, but how to stop illegal immigration entirely. Not just crime, but sending the National Garden to make sure cities are safe. Not just an Iranian nuclear threat, but ending that threat that seven other presidents had identified but did not act on. Not just addressing the transgender issue or the Green New Deal, all of those issues that were so dear to the Democratic Party, but ending them, defunding NPR and PBS. So it is a counter-revolution to unwind and to roll back the entire progressive project of the last 50 years. I think you're going to like it. It's pretty interesting. It chronicles the greatest political comeback in our recent political history. Thank you very much, I'm Victor Davis Hansen, for the Daily Signal. Welcome back, Victor Davis Hansen in his own words. You can catch Victor at his website, VictorHansen.com. That's SON, and the name of the website is the Blade of Perseus. Please come join us there. You can also link to a signature version of his book, The Counter-revolution, which is out and doing quite well, Victor. How any news on the counter-revolution? It's doing very well. It's not number one, obviously, after two months. Not quite two months. Six weeks. But it's selling well. It's still, I think it was four or five hundred on Amazon. And I was surprised the London Times of All Places wrote, "You know, it's a very left wing." And the Times review and said it was a thinking man's analysis of Trump. I didn't agree with the politics of it. The politics and the sense of anybody defending Trump. It's not a defensive Trump per se, but it's a analysis of how he recovered and how he came back and what his plan is for the country. And it said that all left wing people should read it, meaning they could learn from their mistakes, because they ensured that he would be re-elected. And that's one of the themes of the book by five criminal and civil suits that were preposterous, getting his name off the ballot. In 25 states, they tried that. Rating Mar-Lago, debanking his family, denying him his social media accounts. We couldn't communicate. We were trying to kill him in the sense of destroy him, I should say. Financially, economically, spiritually, physically, mentally, bankrupt him. And he's also the first president that has ever been impeached wise. Neither one of them was merited, I don't think. He's the only president that's been tried as a private citizen. He's the only president that the president in the White House, only former president, they rated his home. For what they found, 102 files that they claimed were classified when they said there were thousands, since what teams in there. Joe Biden had them in four different places for over 30 years when he was vice president and senator without the prerogative of declassifying that Trump enjoyed as president. It's just a travesty what they did. And they didn't realize that they were like lemons going over the cliff. That's one of the metaphors I use. They just kept bunching together and cheering each other on and screaming and yelling in a big pack. They were going to destroy him. They got closer and closer to the cliff. And they made him a very sympathetic figure to a lot of people, especially Hispanic and black males who felt Trump had been railroaded. They made it impossible for DeSantis or Nikki Haley to win because basically they said to Haley and DeSantis, if you complain against us, then you're helping Trump. If you agree with us, you're going to alienate the entire. In the book, I point out there's two comments that were kind of innocent. But Mike Pompeo was asked and he said, well, Trump shouldn't have gotten. He said something in effect with, he deployed the raid, but Trump must have, he couldn't, he could have solved it. And then Bill Barr said, you don't resist the archives request. But he had been negotiating with the entire time and what he, he was afraid that some of these documents showed what they were doing, the permanent bureaucracy and they would be lost. And he had good reason to think that because I'm at the Clinton administration. A Clinton Sandy Berger had gone into the archives and stole and destroyed the only copies of memos that showed that the Clinton administration was culpable in allowing Ben Laden to run free when there were efforts by foreign governments to extradimt the United States that would have prevented 9/11. So they don't tell us any of that. But I go over all that in the book and I have four or five hundred footnotes. But I think it's a pretty easy read, but it's, it's kind of a human interest story. How do we about trying to destroy a 76 year old president and destroy him in every aspect of the word? And then he defies that. And instead of sulking around or like Hillary wandering the forest after who 2016 defeat and whining and people resistance, remember that? She said, he just studied his first term. And he said, what did I do wrong and what did I do well? And next time I come back in, I'm going to have a team that are MAGA loyalists, no Steve Minotions, no John Bolton's, no Rex Tillerson's, people like that. And he learned from his first. He got a new team. And he's, and then he said, I'm not going to address the symptoms of the progressive project. Basically, he said, and I'm translating his various tweets and things I reviewed. But basically, he said the first term I dealt with the symptoms of the progressive project. How do they exercise power even when they don't have the Supreme Court, the Congress of the White House? Answer foundations, answer media, answer K through 12, answer academia, answer foundations again, answer entertainment, answers professional sports. Okay, how do you address that? That by answer deep state. Yes, you're, I mentioned that in yourocracy administrative state. So how do I do that? And then when I come in next time, I hit the ground running on causes, doge, 270,000 federal employees are gone. PBS, NPR, defunded universities, tax 1% on endowments, remittances, tax 1% going back. So he's trying to deal with how they work the system even when their agenda does not capture 51% support. So, the book is about the attempted destroyer next week. president, how he outsmarted his accusers and came back, and how he won then this 2024 election, even when all the polls, even to the night of the election, said he was beyond the margin of error going to lose. Famously, the NPRPBS Harris poll said he's down by four points. It's a sure thing for Kamala Harris. And I also say that it wasn't all his own doing that he had helped. He had helped in two ways. Joe Biden was cognitively impaired, and he was put there as a wax-and-effigy, as a surrogate, to moderate the Obama team's effort to have a third more radical term. And Trump pointed that out, and people saw finally by the last year of Biden's reign that they couldn't hide any matter any longer that he was non-composment, not in control, mint as of his mind. And it was the greatest sham since we'll talk about Edith Wilson and Woodrow Wilson. But the other great gift was he won the lottery with Kamala Harris. If he had have been running against Josh Shapiro, but he was running against the most inept ticket I'd ever seen on the Democratic Party. This buffoonish Tim Walts with his bright blue suit up to his ankles on his pants and up to be above his wrist, kind of rolly-poly, gyrating on stage, then trying to be a hunter where he can't load the shotgun or he can't, says he changed everything about him was a lie. He was a buffoon, JD Vance destroyed him in that debate, but was very magnanimous and didn't, you know, he didn't kick the corpse, so to speak. And then there was of course Kamala Harris. She didn't talk, remember, she didn't talk to anybody in the media for 90 days. People said if she opens her mouth, we're going to lose because she's a doomed loop, 500 word vocabulary illiterate and they kept her out. And they went to all the left wing media and said, please don't. And then finally, left wing media said, this is insulting. You're just saying that we're in the tank for you. We've got to at least go through the motions of interviewing her. So they interviewed her and every time they interviewed her, the coming of being, and you know, this is the process of remembering who you are and what you were and what you could be and don't let anybody ever tell you that you can't do something because you can do something. And you know, it's not like you can kick out of a coconut tree and nobody knew what she was talking about. And then when she wanted to be authentic, see Donald Trump has a cunning that people don't understand. It can be cruel. But when he said, I don't think she knows whether she's black or not. That was true because she grew up not in Oakland, but in Berkeley. And her parents were not middle class. They were PhDs, one at Stanford and one at Berkeley. And then she moved to an upscale Montreal. And that really got to her. So she had to lie that she worked at McDonald's and everything. She had to lie that she got a block gun, you know. If you gave her a block gun, she wouldn't know which it went into shot. He did that to her and then she tried to go in. Well, he says, if I want to be black, that's fine with him. But I am authentic. So I'm going to go talk to a bunch of black men and say, Hey, you all, you know, that fake Hillary black accent that Obama mastered was just so inauthentic. And then she had it. They just said, you were, you said that you were against no deportation. You said that you were against fracking. They had all these things. She said, No, I didn't. And then they just run commercials where she said it. And she didn't know what to do with the McDonald's or the garbage truck and all that. And then there was one other thing I pointed out in the book. Joe Biden wanted her to lose. She was behind the coup to get rid of him along with the Obama's. And he never forgave her. So when she was trying to go out there and say Donald Trump is racist, he goes into the White House and opens up his laptop and gives a talk. And he says, you mega people are garbage. That's exactly the same time she was talking. So when that, you know, that just turned off so many people and he kept doing that when we put on a mega hat at one point. So and his dot age, he his subconscious took over that he didn't like her. Yeah. And Jill, Jill and Hunter hated her. Yeah. And probably in 2028, Joe Biden, if he can still vote, will vote for Republican. Probably he's so bitter about it. Yeah, he is. I feel bad. He's got stage four prostate cancer. But he's, you know, he's 83. Yeah. And he he wasn't up to the job. And it was a big cover up. Obama was behind it. Because when the primaries took place, he hadn't one new Hampshire. As I point out in the book, he hadn't won from the from New Hampshire, Norhead E1, Iowa. He was behind Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren and Bernie were all pulling even or above him. And then James Clyburn and South Carolina. So we got a South Carolina thing. Do you want to win or not? I'll get out the black boat. It's 40% of the Democratic Party and we'll vote for Joe Biden. And if I do that, then I get appointments and I get Obama's people to run his presidency because he's not there. So they made that quick a deal. And then suddenly, Elizabeth Warren drops out. Suddenly, Bernie drops out and Joyce is three houses that he has in his millionaire multi-millionaire status. And Elizabeth Warren goes back to her million dollar home and beacon hill or wherever it is. And then Spartacus clams out and Pete Buttigieg gets a job as transportation. So we can write his bike and a photo up. And so it was all staged. He lived by the coup and he died by the coup. Just as they put him in there. And then when they didn't like him, the donors called up and said, George Clarino, that is embarrassing. He didn't know and put that famous iconic line when Biden said, what do you think? What should I look? And then you want to respond to that? President Trump. I don't know what he said. And I don't think he knew what he said. That was it when he said that. Yeah. That wasn't even a debate. So I was kind of worried about that because when he debated Harris, I said on a podcast that he didn't, he said he won the debate with Biden. He really didn't even have to debate. Biden just vaporized. And Trump, you know, Trump, he didn't even prepare for Harris. So every time they asked a question of Harris, she had pre-memorized answers that had nothing to do with the question where you spaces are. Let me tell you what I've done on the border. And then, you know, are you, you said you were against for I can let me tell you how I have increased oil product. You know what I mean? It was all, but it wasn't connected. She never answered any questions. So he was lucky that the sound bites that they use were so bad. That people, most people 80% Americans didn't watch the debate, but they did get exposed to the sound bites. And while she won the debate in the first 24 hours by a week or two later, the sound bites that said it was either even or Trump won. She, she's not a serious candidate even now. It's all in the book. And I think people will like it. Yeah. Yeah. By the book. The left doesn't, the left is very angry about it by the book on the website and get a signature in it. And make sure you go to the complete right column. Click on it. And the first thing is just to buy it for Amazon. That doesn't have a signature, but you have to go down and click on next. And you can get a signature edition of Victor's The Counter Revolution. All that said, I, there were two things I wanted to state. Kamala Harris is not even a serious candidate now, even though she's ahead in the polls. She's not, she's not the latest polls this week. Have Gavin either tied her ahead of her? Is that right? Well, he's, he's a completely buffoonish now. He's a socialist this week. Yeah. But he's ahead of her because somebody, I don't know why they're doing it. Somebody's whispered near the more they see you, the more they're going to like you get out there. So she's out there everywhere. And then she has this therapeutic slop that she, she does have a vocabulary of 500 words. It's just a, you know, it's just wash, spin, rinse, wash, spin, rinse. It just goes in cycles. Yeah. And she runs out of her vocabulary in 20 seconds. And the reason I say she's not serious is she's had two years to become somebody who knows a little bit about the lazy and physically lazy. And she, she could have done this. If she wanted to be president, they could have given her binders, quote, Mitt Romney. And she could have studied fuel, crime, foreign policy. She doesn't even take the effort. No, she knows nothing. about it because she's going to run as I'm going to be the first black woman, the first Asian woman, the first Asian and president. That's what she wants to do. Running as I'm going to be the first new age therapeutic president for you. Yes. And she's not going to make it. Nobody would see it. It would be a catastrophe for the Republic if she ever won. Yeah. I don't think all the Democratic fraud in the world to get her elected. No. All right, Victor, we have a sponsor for this Saturday. It is VAR watch and you have one of their watches on. I believe you have the C5 Korean field solar and it looks awesome on you and it doesn't monitor you, which is the important thing and the other important thing is made in America. We tend to forget though that civilizations are remembered less by their politics than by what they made the tools, the objects, the things built well enough to outlast the people who built them. For most of the last century, America made things. Then like much of the old productive economy, watchmaking packed up and moved overseas. And today, our sponsor is trying to bring back a piece of it. VAR. That's V-A-E-R. Again, V-A-E-R is a Los Angeles watch company whose goal is pretty straightforward. Bring America watchmaking back. They now assemble watches right here in California, as well as Arizona, Rhode Island and Alabama with leather straps made in Illinois and Florida. These aren't fashion accessories. Their proper tool watches, sapphire crystals, premium materials and full waterproof warranties, meaning you can actually swim or dive with them on. VAR has already earned over 10,000 five star reviews and it's become one of the largest independent watches simblers in the United States. If you value things that are rugged made to last and built here at home, go to VAR watches slash V-D-H. That's V-A-E-R watches dot com slash V-D-H. Again, VAR watches dot com slash V-D-H and get your watch today. And we know you'll love it. Victor does. That's for sure. All right. And I had another observation to make that Trump had a constitution to whether all of that onslaught against him. And we're just seeing that constitution reveal itself again as he barns barns barn storms is that the word barn storms the states for the right. I love that. I found it how many times he how many rallies he did versus Camilla Harris. He was about four times the mile. He was doing eight. He could do eight or nine states a day. He was basically getting up at four in the morning and he was going to bed at midnight or one or two in the morning. He was getting two or three hours sleep. I'm not sure that's changed. He just simply outworked them. And he he got in another team. I think the Susan Wiles team was superior to the first team. He he had some very good people around him. And people thought that JD Bands was a bad selection because he was a white male like Trump and who was a mega person like Trump from Ohio that was red and was go to Trump no matter who. He made as vice president that Rubio or somebody would have been a better pick. I don't want to adjudicate that because there's things about Rubio. It just been Rubio have been amazing. But they picked him for one reason Bands that he is a very good debater. And he went on the talk shows. He was doing seven or eight TV appearances a day. And he was going mono to mono with CBS NBC meet the press facing all that stuff. And he was winning. And that really helped Trump. He articulated the Trump message. And you can see Rubio is probably as good at that too. So let's move on to the things Donald Trump that has done well. And in this third quarter of our economy, we've found out that they he has led a economy that is growing at 3.4% according to the Wall Street Journal, which is and a great healthy economy growth rate. So I was wondering I get really angry that I've been saying that for so long that the economy is going to take off even with the high oil prices. And I got so many nasty letters. You're just a shell for Trump. You're stupid idiot that with car me only glue. It was just revised in the third quarter 3.4 GDP. And there's predictions in the fourth quarter. It's going to be 5%. There is now more oil being pumped out of the golf. And I mean, the golf and the widest sense of the world shipped out of the golf, whether through the Red Sea or through the straight of her moves or the golf of 24 million barrels. The reason that oil today, as I speak, is $1.9 is not because there's not enough oil. It's because there's not enough refineries because some have been damaged in the golf states by Iran. Some have been damaged in Russia. And we had a hold on building them for basically the entire 12 years of Obama and Biden. But it's going to get better. And as soon as this war is complete, the price of oil will collapse. It will get down to about $60, which is about $2.50 gas. But otherwise, what do people think? If you go in there and you deregulate the economy the way they did, and you go in and you remove 3 million people, self-door deportations and deportations, and you get rid of 300,000 criminals. That's expensive. And you cut taxes. You help the middle class, no taxes on tips, so security. And then in addition to that, you tell companies all over the world, if you want to come the United States, there's no tariff. But if you stay over there, we're going to symmetrically tariff. You're pretty high. So Audi just opens a plant 1.2 billion. So it's very strange about the re-action to this. Nobody wants to talk about that. The Wall Street Journal has been doom and gloom. So today, you think they would say third quarter GDP revised to 3.4? No, it's down in the middle. That is a big story. If you look at our competitors in Europe or Canada, Canada has like 0.31 or not even won some years. It's the lowest. And now we see that Carney is announcing that he's close to cutting a deal with Trump. So everybody remember what we've been saying and what you've been hearing and what you yourself, I know, think that this guy, Carney, thought he was going to win a trade war with the biggest economy in the world. And he was going to do that by foregoing a huge market where 75 percent of his exports go with no transportation cost and who buys four million barrels a day of his tar sands oil. And then we find it or liquefies it so that they can send it back into Quebec. Some of it. And they don't even allow pipelines from Quebec to, you know what I mean, we're doing with no defense whatsoever. They barely made the 2 percent. But for 15 years, they just say we're not going to do it. We're not going to carry the load. The United States is right here. They defend our airspace. They defend NORAD. They tell us when missiles would come in. So we have a bunch that we have 70 or 80 old F-18s or 45 years old. That's fine. The United States has F-35. That was their attitude. And we're going to ally with the biggest mercantile cheater of all time China. And we're going to go over and cut a special deal with EU who's what? Economy is totally ossified. And we're going to do that because they have the same idea that we do on open borders and illegal immigration and abortion and socialism and maybe euthanasia and dutch are really good like us. And we have, we're we don't like the United States. So then the EU now just this week said, nah, I'm thinking about what's for us to give you a special trade relation. You know, all it will do is get Trump's United States mad at us. And compared to the United States, let's face it, your economy is one tenth the size, basically. So it's 40, it's four trillion dollars. And the United States is 30 trillion. So I should say it's eight times, excuse me, but it's not worth it. So now he says, well, how about China? We have, and the Chinese said, nah, well, we'll steal your resources and we will dump product below the cost of production. If you can get it in the United States is a simple stuff. But otherwise, you should know us better than that. We have contempt for people who want to like us for a week. We admire people that hate us and are strong. That's how they think. So now he's saying, we lost hundreds of thousands of jobs and the economy is more abundant. And I think we better cut a deal with Trump, especially because they have a conservative guy. government now and British Columbia that nobody thought would happen. And my days may be numbered. And I think Trump is going to say when he rings a doorbell, can't hear you, ring it louder. I want to help. We love Canada, but we just can't hear the doorbell ring. I'm sorry. I hope they do cut a deal because I like Canadians, but they shouldn't do that. They should look after their self-interest. Your self-interest is to get a private property capitalist economy, use their treasure house of oil, timber, rare minerals. They're sitting on a goldmine and forget the green subsidized stuff, open up the economy, open up their health system, close their borders, legal only immigration, and they would be just like they used to be. Their dollar was higher than ours. They should be out on the streets against Carney, and they should force that. Don't they have the multi-party system where the Prime Minister has to call an election? People in the world. That just does it every four. Our founders were the only people who did thought that there were flaws in that system. There is. Because you didn't get a Prime Minister who was never elected. He can be a party hack, and all of a sudden the Prime Ministers, they say you're unpopular, we want you out, and they go in a back room like they did thatcher, and then they get her out. Then you get John Major, nobody voted for them, they just pick him. The other thing is you always want to remember Hitler got to the head of the German government in a multi-party. Well, you can imagine what would happen right now if Trump was an apartment, the cabinet would get together, and they'd say he's got 40% he's out, and then they would pick somebody in the cabinet to be the new President of the United States, and the people would be furious. Their system favors a two-party system, so you don't have to do that, and it's not part of them in Terry. They have scheduled election. You don't call election when you think it's beneficial to your party. There is some danger in that, though. Think of it. Kamala Harris only lost by two million votes. If there's some greater work on the part of the Democrats, we could have had that brain dead president. But that's not-- That's the left wing takeover of the institutions and a whole generation who says from the river to the sea, and they think this river is a Mississippi, and they think the sea is the great Salt Lake. I mean, I'd like to thank Home Title Lock for sponsoring the Victor Davis Hansen in his own word show, all right, Victor. So we are on our third segment, and you were going to talk about James Garfield and Woodrow Wilson. Yeah, we're getting close, everybody, where James Garfield was the 20th president, and I think we'll do it Wilson was 28. He was 19 presidents from Donald Trump, and Garfield was 20 presidents from George Washington. So we're right getting next week, we'll be almost at the halfway, but we're going to finish because we have seven more presidents. But next week will be the president, which we'll talk about Teddy Roosevelt and McKinley will be about a halfway, in other words, they were halfway to where we are now. So James Garfield was a very tragic figure. I first really started studying him when I wrote a book called Ripples of Battle, and one of the battles they studied was Shiloh, and he was at Shiloh. He was an Ohio congressman, like I think he would eventually be elected nine or ten times in a row. So he was a civil war hero. He was a chief of staff for General Rosecrans, as I remember, but he was a brilliant commander. He was very poor in literally a log cabin, and at the Battle of Chikamoga, Chikamoga, he, if Rosecrans hadn't listened to him, it would have been a clear, they wouldn't have had the problem they had. He would win, but it was touch and go. But he was very heroic there, and he was heroic at Shiloh. He was an actual combat brigadier general. And he was very poor. He went to, he was just an auto-died act, and then he was self-educated, and he actually wrote a proof of the Pythagorean theory, a new way of showing a square bus plus B-squared equals C-square, and it became kind of famous. So he was a polymath, auto-died act, and he was elected in 1880 at the conclusion of the Hayes Administration. After the quick bargain and all that stuff, just one term, and nobody really thought he had a chance. It was going to be Ulysses S. Grant to come back for a third term. Everybody thought Grant would win, or they thought James Blaine, the liar from the state of Maine, as the Cleveland people would later say when he ran. But it was, I think it was ballad after ballad, they couldn't decide. And the big issue was the Tammat that you haul in New York, the Conclon corruption, whether you were stalwart and were sort of a grant person, or whether you were, I guess they called them half-breed. You wanted to clean up civil service, and he was in between. He was reasonable. He was reasonable that he was not a radical Republican. Remember, there's not going to be any Democrats that can, all they had to do was waive the bloody shirt. My Democratic opponent is a secessionist, secessionist. So you're not going to have a Democrat from the Civil War until Woodrow Wilson. That's the first Democrat that can make it. Actually, the first Democrats in Zachary Taylor. And he ran against Winfield's got a Hancock, and it was a very close race. You only won by 2,000 votes. It was contested. It was very, because there were a lot of Democratic centrist in the North that hated the abolitionist radicals. And there were people now in the South that were voting again after the Cricut bargain, but everyone called it deal, etc. So anyway, when he became, he didn't, and those days you weren't inaugurated till March. So he's only going to be there, and July 2nd, they're going to kill him. Charles, his name is, all you remember in a minute, you can find it for me, but it's a French sounding name. Anyway, he was a complete schizophrenic, crazy person. He was not an anarchist. He was a person who believed that he was a stalwart who wanted a job, and he felt you're a French major. So I know it's a French name. Charles. I know it's a first name, Charles. Yeah, it was Guitol. Guitol. [BLANK_AUDIO] Yes. And he kept threatening people that he wanted a job, because he was coley delusional, so he went to the train station where Garfield was ready to go on vacation. And he shot him. Twice, one was his slight graze. One went through his pancreas. The top of his pancreas, it nicked his vertebrae, went through the very tip of his pancreas, and then because it had been slowed down by his vertebrae, he had one of these 44 Bulldog British police repalters. And then it went through and just missed the splinic artery and ended up right lodged on top of the spleen. They didn't know any of that. There were no X-rays yet. And there was no antiseptic. That was lister and all of that was 10 years ahead. So there's a big controversy. Most doctors who looked at the autopsy reports and everything said that had they not done anything, he would have lived. He would have lived. But they didn't wash their hands, and they kept probing and opening the wound and trying to put their finger in it to see the pathway, the bullet. They got Alexander Graham Bell to make a little metal detector and that didn't work. And they just probed him so he got sepsis and infection again and again and again. And he died. After only six months in office, and then his vice president, who was a very different Chester AR, Arthur took over for the basically three and a half years of his term. And historians are really critical of him, but he did a lot of good things in that six months. He was, he moderated reconstruction, but he appointed more black people. He appointed, I said, I remember Frederick Druggler's to, he was a, he wasn't put it this way for his time. He made race incidental, and he really helped black people. He moderated reconstruction. He eventually saw that it was untenable, but he would, that because of the quick a deal, it was fading, but he still hired people because once the quick a deal had happened in 1876, there were no longer federal troops in the South. You couldn't enforce it. He understood that and he understood that the radical Republicans were loud, but they had no method of, they wanted, you know, to confiscate property and deport people, execute Southern leader. And he was, he was a Ohio, and remember of all the presidents, I think, because I get this right, eight came from Virginia, and seven came from Ohio. And so he was Ohio president, he was a moderate, he was a westerner, he reformed the civil service, and he had been a stalwart, a supporter of grant and the spoil system. So everybody was shocked that he was a reform, and then they killed him. He was only 51 years old. So it was kind of a tragedy. And so then Chester A. Arthur, which we'll talk about next week, took over, and it's, I live in a little town called Salma, and there's a school called Garfield. And right, I don't know, a quarter mile way, there's a school called Wilson, but every five or six years or somebody who wants to rename Garfield, you know, and it's usually, I won't get into it, a political name. It's some kind of cause, a lab, a crazy school board member, or something, but they've been very good about, they keep that Garfield name, because he was a very good man. He was very heroic. He was in battle, in battle, in three different battles of the Civil War. He was re-elected as congressman ten times. He was a lawyer. Everything he did, he did it by just intense study. And he was, he was very impressive guy, and he went to Williams College. And when he went back to Ohio, that was on herd of it. Somebody was in a log cabin. He went to this elite school, but it was all meritocratic. So he might have been the, one of the best red and most mathematical of any president we've had since Jefferson. Woodville Wilson's another story. He's just the opposite. He is not underrated. He's overrated. Garfield's underrated even in the six months. As I said, he was the first southerner that was applicable to be president. Why was that? Because he had been a one-term governor of New Jersey, Northern State. And he was president of New Jersey, Princeton. But Princeton was a gentleman school then. It was transitioning to a major university like Yale and Harvard. But it had a lot of southerners there. And he was president for I think eight or nine years. And he was a progressive. So he was doing all the things that have destroyed education. He was political science, social science, technocratic. He thought that you could create a certain type of mind that would be scientific and run the bureaucracies and be an expert. It's so the schools of education and all the plague upon us that we have. And the diminuation of classical languages, art, history, man, all of that came out. Wilson was the, he wrote a couple of big textbooks on them, how to govern. He really did believe that you could educate these experts like the French. It was very influenced by the French bureaucracy, the desk people. And he should have never been president because as we're going to learn, Teddy Roosevelt came in after McKinley had been assassinated and then he ran for re-election. And so in 1912, he'd had almost 77 years. But he only had one term, excuse me, not in 1912, but 1908. He came in in 1901 and he got out in 1908. Then he picked his successor, William Howard Taft, for four years. And he was in retirement. Taft was not bad. He was a progressive Republican sort of, but Roosevelt thought he wasn't a progressive Republican enough. So in the election of 1912, what does Roosevelt do? He runs against his own, he can't get the nomination from the incumbent. So he creates a bull moose party. And he attacks Taft more than he does Wilson. And in the election of, it's kind of like the election of Bill Clinton over George HW Bush in '92 because of Ross Probe who got 19% of the vote, Clinton won with 43% of the vote. Otherwise, I think George HW Bush would have been re-elected, but Pro hated him. And Roosevelt sort of hated Taft. And that gave the election to Wilson. So he came in, he comes in in 1912. He's going to be present to 1920. And one of the first things he does is re-segregate the bureaucracy and make sure that all the reform movements to re-segregate or desegregate, de-segregate the military are stopped. So he puts race relations back 50 years because he's a racist. He has birth of the nation, it's his favorite movie. And the left, mostly because of people like Arthur Schlesinger and people, felt that he was a great president because he's a progressive. So he introduces the income tax in 1916. And he increases the size of the federal government. And he campaigns in 1916 on the, I think it was used, Charles Evans used. He campaigns on the slogan, "He kept us out of war." And he did. 1914-15, people had already now heard about Passion Dale and they were going to hear during the campaign about Verdun and the psalm. So that was very popular in 1916. And then he's president and then they sink the lucetania and they had unrestricted submarine and the Zimmerman telegram that Mexico's cutting deal with the Kaiser to take them there. And he puts us in the war. And we're not prepared for the war. And we are prepared navelly because Garfield, but especially Chester-A-R, they're built a iron cloud, new, great white fleet that Teddy Roosevelt enhanced. So we did have a very good navy comparatively, but we were not ready. So he turns it over the recruitment to the war department. They're pretty good. And they send two million people over to France from 1917 in April when we declare war to the end of the war. But the problem he did was this, just to finish. He was told by General Hague of the British, General Folk of the French and Pershing of the Americans. The Germans have collapse, but they're not beaten. They still are occupying Eastern Europe and Russia. And they have a two million man army in Belgium and France. They're disgraced. They have a revolution at home, but they don't feel they're beaten because they're in foreign territory. Do not have an armistice until we can push them back into Germany. And better yet, we can invade Germany and occupy it and teach them not to do it again. And then watch over them. He wouldn't do it. No, no, no. We're going to have an armistice, OK. And then 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, everything stops. What's he do? He pulls a million troops home. Everybody disbands. And then the peace treaty that he's organized at Versailles doesn't happen till June. So there's seven months and the Germans are twilling their thorns and saying, "Hmm. There's not very many Allied soldiers here." And we surrendered in France and Belgium. And we were stabbed in the back by a bunch of socialist communists in Jews, which was a lie. So we're going to be tough. And then they say, "Anybody German that goes to Versailles and submits to this humiliating Versailles treaty is going to be persona non-Grabbe if they're not killed in Germany." And it's 400 and something, items, the war clause is Germany's fault, which it was. But he turns the whole piece thing in to his vision of 14 points. And that's famous thing by Clemens O. God only had 10 commandments. The God Wilson has 14. So it was this idealistic progressive thing for the world government, globalist, championed by his pet project, the League of Nations. Yes. Can I just say something about that, Clemens O. God, that just behind it was that the French had suffered so much from the Germans that they wanted and punished. They didn't want all this ideological, nice world. We are the world type of things that came with the Portuguese. It basically said, "You Americans are 4,000 miles away. We're living next to a monster." And they destroyed us in 1870 and took the Alsace Lorraine. They invaded us in 1914. They killed probably close to a million and a half Frenchmen and two wars. They've destroyed 80 miles of our countryside. And don't tell us that we have to play kumbaya and be friends with these people. They started it and they will never stop. They'll be back here again unless you teach them that they can't do this. And the only way you can teach them, they are retreating, but they're not beaten. You've got to chase them back, go into Germany, destroy the government, the Kaiser, set up a democratic government under your ausp and occupy the country. And Wilson, this is so mean, this would be punitive. So he overruled Pershing folk. They had three men, four million men, they could have done it tomorrow. The Germans were completely humiliated. They were completely dead defeated. But they didn't think they were. And when you wait seven months, eight months before you have a peace treaty, things change. And so they were, they sent two envoys who were forced to sign it and almost immediately hendered in Berg and Ludendorbs said, "Oh, we didn't want to do this. We really won." And then Hitler, of course, popped out and they were on the road to World War II. Folks said that. This is not a peace treaty. It's a parenthesis and a guarantee of war in 20, 20 years. He was brilliant. He was absolutely right. But the League of Nations was the key point. And then when the Republicans looked at that, they said, "Well, we're not going to surrender our sovereignty and follow the League of Nations. This is crazy. We don't want a world government." And then Wilson said, "Well, we have to be the policemen. We're not going to spend our money to dispute a border conflict in Africa or to tell some Italian he can't have a Libyan call." That's their business. So they finally cut a deal with him and said, "You can have your League and you can have your Versailles peace treaty, but we're not going to sign it in a normal way. And you can say it's your, they had all kinds of conditions." He was an absolutist. He was so morally superior in his own mind. He had no negotiations. Said he said to them, "I'm going to fix you. I'm going to barm star in the country and I'm going to train from New York to San Francisco and I'm going to tell everybody that you're war mongers and I'm going to have peace forever with the League of Nations and the Versailles treaty. And we don't do those things like Europeans and he barmed star in the country and he had an absolute stroke and he was bedridden for ten months and he was vegetative. He did recover for a while, but when he was in bed, they kept it completely silent. By Edith Wilson, who was the second wife, younger, very kind like Jill Biden, the same thing. And then they had to press releases or they'd prop him up and take a picture of him. He was like a wax and effigy. And that's important because that was a model that the Biden's used and that's what really killed that effort because people would right call him saying, "This is so ironic that we have another democratic administration and what are they doing?" Well, I can tell you what they're doing. They're doing exactly what Edith Wilson, I did a podcast, I said that and a lot of people wrote, "Jill Biden is playing Edith Wilson and Joe Biden is playing Woodrow Wilson." And it's a big scam on the American people and then he recovered for a few years and died. But this is the, I'll finish with this, because of the League of Nations, because of the Versailles treaty, because of the 14 points, because all this idealism, the left decide and because of the income tax and because he was the socialist sort of, they said, "Well, we don't really care that he was the first southerner since the Civil War who was president that re-instituted, segregated bureaucracies, segregated everything and would not even see black leaders in his office." In other words, he was an object racist. We're going to overlook the fact that if you were a German nationalist and you spoke German and you said that you wanted to be neutral, you wanted the United, that he put them in jail with an attorney general who was like James Comey on steroids. We don't care whether he violated its civil rights. And then you know, the left turned on itself, so during George Floyd, people said, "We're going to tear off the name Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton. I don't think they should have done it, but the left couldn't figure them out." Well, wait a minute. We're liberals and we love Wilson. And we're so bragging about the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Policy, he invented public policy. You can't do that. And they said, "We're going to tear it off. It's no longer the Woodrow Wilson School." They just folded like a tin. They love him and the presidential rankings of all these people are all done by professors and political science and history departments and they're all on the left side of the spectrum. Well, Victor, thank you for that. We're going to move on because we have lots of topics on elections in Europe and also in Israel. So, stay with us for those topics and we'll be right back from these messages. Thank you. Welcome back. Victor Davis-Hanson. in his own words. For you who are new, Victor's the Martin Ely Anderson senior fellow and military history and classics at the Hoover Institution and the Wayne and Marsha Busky distinguished fellow in history at Hillsdale College and you can find him on social media so you can hook up with him and follow him at on X his handle is @Vidi Hanson and on Facebook he has a page called Hanson's Morning Cup so please come join him there. Well Victor I know that we talked a little bit about Israel Israeli elections but it came out this morning that Netanyahu has challenged the Arab precincts and that they were riffed with fraud with cash bribes multiple IDs and people voting on multiple ballots when they went into the water. Nobody can understand that the Arab there's two million Arabs I don't know what the percentage of people who are eligible to vote but it's quite large and it was the largest in history. So there was nationalists and there were people on the left that wanted it to be the large and there's accusations that gutter and other people were paying people to vote. This is very ironic first of all because we had been told by Tucker Carlson and the left every campus demagogue apartheid apartheid apartheid apartheid israel's apartheid and then you look at the headlines today all over these news. Arabs may destroy Netanyahu. Arabs are the pawn workers of the entire Jewish state. Well how can that be that's in apartheid state, Tucker? You mean that Arabs vote they have full rights of citizenship they don't even have to be in the army and they can governor and to the parliamentary system they can be brokers of power and destroy your arch enemy Netanyahu politically. They have that power. Well that can't happen in a apartheid society. Can it? The two million people who were only 300,000 when the Jewish state was formed can increase the population by fivefold and they're now they used to be 18% of the resident population when israel is formed they're 21%. How does genocide work in that calculation are apartheid and why do they have why are they only why you on the left and you on the paleo right why are they the only people in the Middle East out of 30 some countries that can vote in a free and honest election not in Egypt not in Jordan not in Syria not in Iraq not in Lebanon not in Turkey none of these places Arabs there alone Muslims can vote it's not in a apartheid state it's not a genocidal regime but under the parliamentary system you need 61 seats to form a government I think he'll end up it's still getting counted there's like I don't know 400,000 votes left he may have 57 seats is only four short I think the other side has something like 44 and they can't there's two Arab groups there's a very radical group it's basically pro Hamas and then there's a will to take over Israel from the inside moderately group and both the leftist candidates the opposition have said they wouldn't cut a deal with them that would be political suicide and Israel to tell this they need both of them not just the moderate they need the radical one too to give them pledge to vote for their candidate and give them you know highly making job what would you do to get uh to be the new prime minister if you're an opponent under the parliamentary system you'd have to go to two radical Arab groups two Arab groups one really radical and one not not quite as radical and say what do you want so you'll vote for our candidate and not Netanyahu and we can take over government and what would you say I want to be defense minister I want to have you let out all of the prisoners this would make the quick at bargain of 1876 looks like nothing so they've all pledged an advance that they wouldn't do that so then it's Netanyahu has all the cards because all he has to do is say you have a certain amount of time to form a government and he can go to different little splinter parties most of them on the opposition and say I'll give you this and this would you want to join and they may or may not and then if they don't want to join he just waits a minimum amount of time and calls another election and says look at these people they're all in with our and so they are dubly embarrassed because on the eve of the elect after the election the polls closed they were celebrating that they won it's kind of like Dewey and Truman you know Dewey wins no he didn't but they were all saying just 48 hours ago that Netanyahu lost and he didn't he didn't quite win but he didn't lose and the others he's in a better position to win soon which nobody saw which means I said that in one of our podcasts that when people actually get into the ballot and nobody can see them voting they'll say they're going to vote against Netanyahu they'll say afterwards they're going to vote against Netanyahu and then they're going to say do you want this guy in charge right now when these people we may be going to war with Iran and these people want to do another October 7th or do you want crazy Netanyahu so that's how he won final statement it had a lot of relevance for this election because if you're one that thinks our polls are quick good and they deliberately are used to drive up momentum for the left media coverage for the left money for the left but they don't accurately reflect the actual conditions until maybe the day before when they have to recover their reputation because they know they've been aligned look toward Israel because that's exactly what they were doing on the left and that's exactly what they do in Europe and that's exactly what drives the left wing mind any means necessary for their superior moral objective and we'll see but I think it's good news for the Republicans but besides who wins because it shows you that these polls we'll talk about the midterms but there's something fishy about this election because Trump only has according to the polls 40% approval if that and history says in the last 126 years anybody in the White House during a midterm only wins on three occasions so 90% of the midterms go to the outparty and especially when you have 40% approval so this should be a slam dunk of 3040 seats not as bad as Obama's wipeout 63 or Clinton's wipeout I think it was 54 or something but it's not quite because who would ever think that deep deep blue organ is neck and neck for their governor race or deep deep blue Minnesota is closed pretty much blue but sometimes purple Michigan is close and Maine is close so we'll see something's going on I think it's momentum's going on and I don't know the way I look at the election is the Republicans finally came up with three good things number one they said we have more oil going out of the straight and it's going to get better or more oil is leaving the Persian Gulf states whether Red Sea or straightover Moose or Oman via Oman than ever before the price will go down number two all of the GDP and growth statistics are being revised not downward upward GDP is great unemployment is only 4.2 per capita income per family income is at all time high so there's all these good things they're getting that message out and then second they're saying these are not Democrats these are not crazy Democrats like Elizabeth Warren and independent Bernie Sanders and Heikm Jeffery these are socialist communist Islamists revolutionaries and if they take over they have never won a statewide race if they get a statewide victory that'll be a shot of adrenaline into them and they will brag that they won not a congressional district or state legislature they won a state governor or and they will be unstoppable as far as the Democratic Party so that's the second message that the economy's not bad and the second message is these people are really bad and there's a third message why why when Biden was in his midterm of 2022 why when that year inflation was 9.1 not 3.4 and the price of gas went up to five dollars average not 4.38 in 2022 and yes we were in the Iran war but he had pretty much invited a war with Ukraine and Russia because he pulled out everybody from Afghanistan got 13 Marines killed and gave the Terrace $50 billion worth of weaponry and infrastructure and a billion dollar embassy. And then he oversaw two wars. But the main thing is that he said he wouldn't react to Putin unless it was a major invasion. And then he put a hold on all offensive weapons, Ukraine that Congress had approved. And my point is this, the Republican should say, compared to Biden, you're a line media because all you talk about is gas, gas, gas, gas, inflation, inflation, inflation, war, war, war. And you deliberately played all of that down in 22. So you stopped the red wave because people said, well, I know it's 5.1 inflation average. I know that we have 9.1 inflation this year, two and a half times higher than now. I know that gas and real dollars adjusted for inflation was much higher. And I know there was a theater wide war in Ukraine and I know that we lost the war in Afghanistan and it cost just the equipment we lost and gave up and that in the base was more than we've spent in Iran. And so forth. Or the Ukraine, right? Well, I don't know about that. Nobody knows how much we gave. Some people say it's 100 billion. Some people say it's 200 and when you add in logistics, satellite, reconnaissance, economic. Didn't we lose 80 billion just in the material in Afghanistan? Wasn't that there? People argue about that too. They say you don't just count the platforms, you account for the tarmac, the base, the ballad and the embassy and all of that stuff that we just abandoned, yeah, probably so. So my point is that all this doom and gloom that is media driven and I say that because it was doomier and gloomier in 2020 and they did just the opposite. They were sunny book farm optimist and what was the result? The red wave never materialized. The only loss I think nine house seats and they gained one Senate seat. And so keep that in mind, everybody. It's just a matter of time. Can they get the message out how bad these socialists are and the fundamentals of the economy are really good and they're starting to do it, but they have less than a week now. They're starting to spend their money. There's been a brilliant add on Fox and other nations about their racist nature, the Democratic. Have you seen it? Yes. It's really well done. Someone says they're consumed with race. I'm afraid to go out. All they do is hate America, talk about race and hate white people. She said that. Hate white people. I could not believe that. It's true. It's amazing. It's so true. Victor, so let's talk just about some elections in France, I mean, in France, in Europe. And I was sorry, the election in France and the election in Brazil. Le Pen just announced her or started her campaign in Orléans, where Joan of Arc first saved the France, started the saving of France from the English in the 100 years war. So it's a very symbolic place. She's the savior of France and and Le Pen, Marine Le Pen is beginning there. And she's calling, right? She wants the country to fight back against all these immigrants that are rioting in the streets in France. Yeah. She's a French socialist because she wants to lower the retirement from 62 to see if I was a Frenchman, I would have retired 13 years ago, said of what she would call a fulge American is still greedy and working at 73 with lung cancer. But I like her, but she's not going to solve the problem. The problem is that the economy is inert, ossified, calcified, socialist. Problem is open borders, problem is they're getting in these cities now, 16 to 17% in Paris and elsewhere, Muslim populations that are not assimilated. And if you count their second generation kids, two generations, it's about 40%. And they're paralyzed. And the medicine and their eyes to open up the economy, go to a free market system, close the borders is worse than the disease. So what's going to happen? She's going to win unless three things happen. They find what they usually do like in Germany with the AFD, they try to silence her and she has an ankle brace on because she's under arrest on probation. They'll try to put her in prison number one, number two, they have a full scale revolution, you know, kind of like the 68 riots, just and they cancel the election. Or number three, somebody shoots her, I hate to even mention that, but they hate her. So left is very desperate. If you think they're desperate here, they're going to lose the control of Europe because the right is determined to save Europe, which is great. And we'll see what happens. I was going to say a few things about the Brazil election. It was won by the socialist Lulu, but the and the his opponent, the conservative Flavio Bolsonaro exiled himself to the United States. So that's pretty extraordinary. He had a backup plan that he crafted because he knew that the communist, if they won, would credit kill him or something, they stabbed his father. So he fled, but I couldn't believe that people like in the EU and the American left were praising it that he lost and they were with China said the same thing. So what I'm getting at, the reaction to that theft of that election in Brazil was shared by the socialist EU, the American left, and the Chinese Communist Party. And basically, the incumbent picked his private lawyer and put him on the Supreme Court, which usually doesn't interfere in elections, they have an electoral appeals board, which said, you cannot close, you cannot change the voting laws in the middle of an election because the word went out that they could get more left wing voters if they added two more hours. It would be like California right now and we're, Steve Hilton's winning from exit polls. And most of the conservative districts have already voted and it's seven o'clock, getting to seven o'clock at night, say, when the polls close, but all these people are panicking in Baceras campaign. So they say, we're going to allow the following counties to have two more hours and there just happen to be democratic counties and then he wins by a hair. You would have the biggest, that's what happened in Brazil because they didn't want to end up like the other 28 nations that are pro-American. Yeah. Well, doesn't California kind of have that anyway because they leave the vote counting for so long and they bring in votes that weren't necessarily done by the voting time. They bring them in and count them out. There's a certain congressman in a certain county near a certain place where I'm speaking from that on two or three occasions lost the popular vote on election night and then didn't bat an eye because he was confident that the CTA and SEIU, California Teachers associations, service employee, international union or whatever, they would have their mail and ballots that would come in at 90 to 10 or something for him and he was absolutely right. Correct. Every time it happens. Every time. Yeah. All right, Victor. So let me really interesting this week was Mike Waltz in the UN General Assembly giving a speech on Cuba and exposing the corruption of the Castro family. It's luxury vacations and luxury homes and they have their own islands. I favorite was when he pointed out that for their their woodwork in their home, they went to the Brazil-Rarified Sanctuary Rainforest and cut down rare trees with beautiful grain wood and then shipped it to Cuba to their private island and all of this and they have 20 executive homes. It's like the Soviet Union, it's just and then once you know, think about once a thug always a thug. So there are thugs. They kill people and they come to the UN and they think well, most of the people are thugs like us right and Obama, he recognizes in his second term when he was lame duck. He lost the house. He lost the senate. He had no right. He had no ability to pass a treaty and he said I have a phone, I have a pen. We're going to go up on that page. Paris, we're gonna sign them trying to be Clinton, I guess. We're gonna sign the Paris Peace Corps. That's what we're gonna do. We're gonna sign the Paris Peace Corps and the Rand deal and we're gonna recognize Cuba as a independent free with full relations with the United States. He did that. Three things as a lame doc. Should remind everybody that Trump should lose the midterms. According to our system, if you look what Obama and Clinton both came in with huge Senate and House majorities, they lost them and by their last two years of their second term, they had a hostile Congress and they didn't bat an eye. Bill Clinton, bomb Serbia '99 like there was no tomorrow. He just said no congressional authorization needed and he just did it and he did a lot of other stuff. He did some good stuff too. He balanced a budget another two years and the same thing with Obama. He was the mad bomber, as I said last time. He ordered 26,000 bombing strikes against seven nations. He ordered 500 plus targeted drone assassinations. He killed over 2500 people. He killed about 170 civilians. He killed five U.S. citizens. Some of you are going to say, "Well, Victor, they needed killing." Maybe, maybe not. The U.S. citizen is entitled to a trial and he did a lot of that when he was a lame doc and he had lost the Congress. So I think Trump is looking at that and thinking, "You know what? I'm just going to do it Obama and Clinton. They gave me a paradigm when you lose the House and if you lose the Senate, I can do whatever they want. They'll never get 60 Senate seats to cut off, you know, to the Iran War effort." And they have about, they might get 20 seats. They might have a 13 seat, but they're going to impeach me but they'll never convict me with 60 votes in the Senate. They can have all these inquiries and impeachment hearings and corruption, but they don't have the DOJ. So they can't really indict very many people. So that's what is, and I can pardon them. He'll just do it. Clinton and Biden did and then everybody in the left will say, "This is so terrible." And he's just going to say, "Thank you for giving me the paradigm. I want to follow it." Yes. And I hope it doesn't come to that. Maybe Cuba's regime will change someday and there won't be a bunch of thugs trying to threaten and you and ambassador in the. Cuba, and you come to the U.S. and it's run by a communist, right, Mondami, and you come into the U.N., and you remember that the last time you had a Democratic president, Obama, he was for you, your government. He didn't speak on behalf of the dissidents. And he recognized you as a full partner of the United States, a diplomatic entity. So what would you thought you could get away with it? So they just, they not only yelled at Walt, they started to approach the podium like it was Havana. And he said, "Hey, this is the U, this is New York, this were America, you don't do that." And they shipped that one guy back out. Yeah. They deported and they should have deported all of them. Yeah, exactly. Should not let him come. Oh, yeah. They should say, "You know what, take the U.N. and put it in Havana. You don't want it." Yeah. I think the guy from the Cuban delegation shoved one of the guys in the U.S. delegation. There's thugs. Good enough. There's thugs. All right, Victor, we're at the end of the show. And I have one card to read, Ellen Gillen Water sent a nice long letter about she's a cancer survivor, too. But at the end, she said, "I appreciate your political wisdom and so far no one has silenced you." I love listening to you. Oh, you, Levine, Glenn Beck, and still Miss Rush Limbaugh. I've apologized to our two kids for them living in such a harsh time and they're 47 years old and 43 years old. So by growing up years, we're so calm, patriotic, and simpler, please keep sharing your wisdom. We all need it badly. Ellen Gillen Water, very sweet. I feel bad about that, too. I went to the same-- my children went to the same public high school that I did. I went to the same public high school that my mother did. My mother went to the same high school as my grandfather did, who graduated in 1908 from Selma High School. And before that, it didn't really exist because his-- my grandfather's father and grandmother, who built this house, came in 1872. So my point is it was all kind of the same until my children started to get different. I don't mean ethnically or racially. I'm just saying that was more violent. The tutelage and the teaching was worse. The community was more incoherent. It was more violent. I'd say once every 48 hours, there are sheriffs going by here at 80 miles an hour with sirens on. They're going to horrific car wrecks or gang violence. You mean today? Yeah. I mean, I heard one this morning. And when I was there, I didn't hear that one time. Not, there was an old guy name. I remember him. He had a blue, dark blue, 51 Ford sedan. Fairlane. I think it was called a fairlane. Iver Johansson. He was an old Swedish guy. And he had a little 38 special in a holster. And once in a while, once in a great while, my grandfather, I think, once, because we were-- he'd call him, "Hello, Iver." This is Reese Davis out here in '83, '43. I'm on the cell in my California. You know me, Iver. Yes, Reese, what's up? There's a car, a suspicious car. They just drove it on my place. And I'll be out there. I've got a wild dog that bit somebody. And I've got a coyote in the middle of the street. I've got to get out of the road. And I'll be-- we'll come around. And then about 20 minutes later, he'd show up. And then he'd go out there, and then he-- there was a guy drunk there that passed out, and he grabbed him by a shower and threw him in his little car, no handcuffs or anything. I'm taking you in to the county jail, and you can sober up. And that's how it was. And then I remember everybody was afraid of crime. Because if you did anything, the local Selma Enterprise said, Billy Bob Smith, 15 resident of 421 Park Lane, Selma, son of Mr. Joe Bob Smith, and this little Lynn Smith, was caught in a liquor store trying to steal something. But thanks to the vigilance and the professionalism in the Selma Police Department, he was caught. And Judge Cargai will be sentings in to two years in jail. And that's what it would be in there. His name, his age, his parents' address. And it was a shame culture. So everybody thought, oh my god, I don't want to do that. It's all gone. It's disappeared all because we wanted to be enlightened and therapeutic, and we didn't know anything about human nature. And we encourage people to indulge. There's no deterrence anymore. Nobody's afraid of anything. Because we appeal to the better angels of our nature. And that's-- but some people don't have better angels in their nature ever. So there's a tyranny of the criminal and the shameless in our culture. And they get away with literally murder. But they've destroyed the-- I mean, I can remember we would go up to the lake for five days, camp out, Florence Lake, and my mom and dad would scramble around. Bill, where's the key to the house? I haven't seen it in six weeks. Pauline, we haven't used it in a year. Well, where is it? We don't even think we should lock the house. We're going to be gone. No, we'll call your dad up. And Reese will drive around and check it once a day. Well, what-- so we just left the house open. And nobody-- or they'd say, where were you been, Victor? Victor-- or they'd say like this, would you want to go? I'm going to go walk. OK, when will you be back? I was six, seven. I'll be back at eight. And then I get back at-- I mean, I'd say I'd leave at eight in the morning. I get back at noon. Where will you? Well, I had lunch at Brahmons. This house were right here. And then they said, well, then where'd you go? I was on the walking, and I saw Bill Hazelhoffer. And so I talked to him, and he offered me a ride home. He was a farmer. And then I wanted to walk more. And so I walked over. And then I saw Joe, the hired man, Joe Carey. And he gave me a lecture on hoop snakes. And so then I got home, but it was like you were free range and all the neighbors and everybody looked out for you. Yeah, they were all taking care of you. Yeah, it was perfectly safe. And now we're so much richer and we're freer and you can do anything you want on your phone or computer and we're morally inferior. Yes. Morally. I don't know about that can do anything on the phone. How healthy that is for civilization because it seems like people are increasingly interacting with their machine and not with each other. And I think that's taking away from the human interaction, the human health of our society. It's just the clicks, they just say something crazy or obscene to get clicks. I don't understand when that happened, the F word. Yeah. It's amazing now. People cannot, they really get on the internet and their mainstream, they're more on the left. Yes. But Trump has used that word. Yeah. And they just go on these F bombs and they don't even use the word F bomb anymore because it's so normalized. It's so obscene. And they just rant and rave and that gives you attention and you go on, you just scream and yell and lie. I've never seen anything. I don't know how these Israelis take it because these people in Europe, the United States, they just get on here and they just say these things that are completely false. They're genocidal. They're, they've killed a whole, you know, people. And if you believe Hamas' figures of, they think 870, but 35,000 are Hamas killers. Maybe there's been 20,000, 55,000 killed, but the majority of them are Hamas killers. And they were in the tunnels and they put the people up there and the majority of people got killed were shields, deliberately by the people snuck below and put the people, should have been the other way around. The civilian should have taken over the labyrinth and the Hamas people should have been up there if they want to fight. But if you look at Ukraine, I've been looking at all that nobody knows how many people have died. The people in Ukraine downplay their losses and exaggerate the Russians and the Russians exaggerate Ukraine losses and downplay their own. But I think it's about a million to a million and a half dead dead and probably two million wounded. So what I'm getting at in just a few weeks, what's happening in Ukraine to complete obliviousness is more than the entire Israeli war. And I don't hear anybody on campus saying they're slaughtering 30,000 civilians in Ukraine. Today, 12, I figured it out, it's like 15,500, excuse me, a day or killed or wounded on both sides. And nobody's talking about it because they're not Jews. I don't know. It's not Israel. I don't know. If you ever heard anybody talk about collateral damage, I haven't. Have you ever heard anybody saying that there should be a wartime nonpartisan war cabinet in Ukraine? I haven't. Have you ever heard of anybody saying that Russia and Ukraine should be proportional in their attack? I haven't. I only hear that the Israelis are disproportionate and they're not democratic, even though they have elections right during these tense time. It's so weird. It's beyond explication. It's just that this driving hatred is commercial that Al Said is running by his islamas is relative. And this young Turk, Ugar, as his name, sent you or girl. Yeah, we have a six. He's actually the uncle of Hassan Piker, but he's my very wealthy family, six trillion dollar federal spending. And you get on there and a woman says she cannot buy eggs and bananas because we're giving foreign aid. It's about three million, three billion a year. And we've given Ukraine somewhere between a hundred and two hundred billion. And she's saying that she can't eat because of the three billion. Take all the zeroes away from six trillion. And she's saying that three three billion dollars means what is it point zero zero one percent or something of the budget goes to Israel. And she says that's the cause of inflation. It's insane. And the only thing that is L Said or his islamas is relative who's helping with or that is that they're Jewish. That's it. And it's been really you can see, especially in Europe, but also here when I never could figure out Germany because there had been 19th century anti-Semitic writing, mostly on demographics and genetics. And there had been anti-Semitism, but you could make the argument that Poland was much more anti-Semitic or hungry than Germany was. Germany had enlightened people and there were there were hundreds of Jewish Germans who won the Iron Cross in World War One. If you had said that after the end of World War One within 12 years, it was dangerous to walk down a street in Germany as a Jew or that within 20 years, there would be a box full of Iron Crosses at Auschwitz in Treblinka as war veterans. Helped them up and they just said, toss them in here and gas them and burn them up. No one would have ever believed you. By the same token, if you had told me five years ago that there would be candidates who were blaming all their problems on Israel and Democratic candidates or that people whose brother were in Hezbollah as a terrorist were ramming synagogues. And the candidate for Senate for Michigan and response to that would say hurt people, hurt people, or you would tell me that almost about it. I get Tucker's newsletter and I'm not a mathematician in his case, but it seems to me that somewhere between 50 and 60% of every broad guy, I don't listen to it, but I get the synopsis. It has something to do with either Jews or Israel. One tiny little country and a minuscule percentage of the budget gets all that attention. Somebody wrote me a letter. I'll just finish. So we'll victory you idiot. It's because we help Israel. I said, we don't give them as much per year now as we did Ukraine. And I'm for helping Ukraine. But nobody talks about that. So they do talk about it when they mentioned Zelensky's Jewish. That's the only time they mentioned it. Well, I think people who are voting for El Said have to think about, and they're not Jewish, have to think about whether they're like the Germans who were sitting right there while the Holocaust was going on. I think it was a big question. He was pretty clear that he didn't like Jews. He got a whole host of people. He had to fire about three people before they even took office because they had been writing. I mean, his wife wrote for a magazine where the woman basically wants to exterminate Jews. All right, Victor, we better go. We're way over time. Thanks to the audience for joining us on this Saturday edition. Thank you for listening and watching. Sorry about the link. I talked too much. Podcast Summary

Key Points:

  1. Victor Davis Hanson argues that Donald Trump is a counter-revolutionary, not a revolutionary, aiming to roll back the progressive agenda of the last 50 years.
  2. Trump survived a coordinated, multi-pronged effort to destroy him through legal suits, financial attacks, social media bans, and smear campaigns across 25 states.
  3. The book *The Counter-Revolution* details how Trump rebounded by reorganizing his team, focusing on root causes rather than symptoms, and winning despite early polling predictions.
  4. Kamala Harris is criticized as unprepared, inauthentic, and lacking substance, with claims she misrepresented her background and was influenced by political sabotage.
  5. Trump's success is attributed to superior organizing, relentless campaigning, and overwhelming outreach, including a record number of rallies and media appearances.
  6. The U.S. economy is growing at 3.4% in Q3, with oil prices expected to drop due to supply increases, and a strong recovery in GDP and employment.
  7. A key theme is that left-wing ideologies—such as socialism, Islamism, and anti-immigration extremism—have never won a statewide race and would be destabilizing if they did.
  8. The narrative frames the political shift as a battle between a conservative, anti-establishment counter-revolution and a left-wing, moralistic, yet ineffective movement.

Summary:

4% GDP in Q3, falling oil prices, and low unemployment—offering a contrast to economic stagnation under prior administrations.

FAQs

The book argues that Donald Trump is not a revolutionary or revisionist, but a counter-revolutionary who is rolling back the progressive policies of the last 50 years. It details how Trump defeated political attacks, survived multiple trials, and won the 2024 election by confronting the root causes of progressive policy, not just symptoms.

Trump outworked opponents through extensive campaign rallies, built a loyal team, and defied the opposition's efforts to financially, politically, and publicly destroy him. His resilience and ability to maintain public support, especially among marginalized groups, were key to his recovery.

Trump advocates for ending illegal immigration, defunding NPR and PBS, cutting federal employee numbers, increasing oil production, and ending the Green New Deal. He claims these actions target the 'causes' of progressive policies, not just their symptoms.

Hansen argues that Harris lacks political substance, has a limited vocabulary, and failed to address key issues during debates. He claims she lied about her background and was politically unprepared, making her unfit to lead the nation.

The media, political parties, and opposition leaders created a hostile environment that undermined Biden and Harris. Trump outperformed them in rallies, used media effectively, and benefited from public frustration with the Democratic Party’s failure to deliver on promises.

Hansen suggests that Joe Biden was cognitively impaired and used as a political tool, while key Democratic figures like Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg dropped out under questionable circumstances. This created chaos and weakened the party’s unity and messaging.
