This is the week zero college football betting preview. I'm stucky and joining me, as always, my fellow VBOC co-host, Colin Wilson. We are back. I can't wait to listen, knowing we're gonna preview games and hearing the intro, the best college football podcast intro in the game. Shout out to former producer Matt Mitchell and also our current producer to go, David. But we're officially back. It's just the appetizer. Eight games, we're gonna break down all eight games, but it's just exciting to be talking matchups and getting the season started, you ready to roll count? - Yeah, the music literally stuck, still puts the hair standing up on my arm, but you know what else does? Week zero games, so I'm ready to go. - You're not gonna keep them off the field at night, boys. (laughing) - Yeah, year 10, doing this with you, it's a pleasure to go through the grind again. Let's both have a year, shout out to all of you guys for listening and I'm excited to go through the grind of the college football season with you all. Let's kick, we'll go chronologically through all eight games. Let's kick things off with the first game. Revenge is gonna be rematches. It's gonna be a common theme for a lot of these week one matchups. And that is the case for the first game of the season between North Carolina and TCU. TCU is a nine and a half point favorite. The total is down to 46 and a half at DraftKings. TCU has taken money. This opened below a touchdown. Now it's sniffing double digits. Under is taking money. There might be some rain and some, no, not crazy, but some wind, which could have an impact and maybe influencing some of the under money. This game will kick off in New New Eastern. Not tonight in the show you can be a Viva fog, right? You can't predict that. Like last year's game, the fog was so thick, but it happens in a Viva. So gotta watch out for that too. Yep, so last year, these two teams met in the opener and TCU destroyed North Carolina. It was a complete and utter embarrassment, but in fairness, it was basically year zero for Bella check and it was just a mess. They were not ready to play and TCU 148 to 14 going away in Chapel Hill. This one will be on a neutral field. There, look, there are, so TCU has taken real money. I made this like eight and a half, but I'm not a slave to my power ratings, especially in today's college football, early on in the season. So if this gets to 10 and maybe even now, I might look in North Carolina because, look, there's definitely questions on North Carolina's roster. I mean, first of all, they've been without Steve Bellcheck, their defensive coordinator. Now, who's on medical leave? Bill Bellcheck, we don't know who's gonna call the defense. I assume Bill Bellcheck is gonna have his fingerprints on this defensive game plan. I assume they're gonna play a lot of man, they're gonna try and take away explosive plays, which they did a good job of last year. And I do like their defensive line. The biggest question for UNC is they, you know, Billy Edwards is gonna start a quarterback, Devon Jr's back at running back. They have a couple nice weapons to all the questions for UNC or not all with the primary questions on this offense that by Bobby Patrino are gonna be up front along a very inexperienced offensive line. Patrino is gonna wanna try to get the run game going. I assume UNC was super slow last year, but really couldn't get that run game going. However, Patrino goes usually unlocks that. Now, we are both high on the upside of TCU this year, but it's not like TCU is without questions. Look, they have a brand new quarterback. We both like, but he's stepping up in class, from Harvard and Jaden Craig. It's got NFL arm, it's got some mobility. And it's gonna be a brand new offensive scheme under Gordon Samus who comes in from Yukon. It's gonna be more, it's gonna look way different than what we saw under Brials. It's not gonna be as fast, it's gonna be more under center, more motion, more multi tight end botical, right? Yeah, the botical offense, they value ball security. And, but like, they're replacing three multi-year starters on the offensive line. They might rotate guys at right tackle. You're gonna replace a three-year starter at center with either a lower level transfer or your backup guard from last year. You lost your number one receiver in Eric McAllister who always commanded a lot of attention can Jordan Dwyer be that number one without McAllister there. And then can some of the other younger guys step up? One of them got beat up in the locker room, so he won't be there. And, you know, so this is a team that they lost another wide receiver in the NFL and two tight ends who were on NFL roster. So it's not necessarily a given that this offense right away with a lot of turnover and an FCS quarterback in a new scheme is just gonna click from the get go against one of the most brilliant defensive minds ever. And as he lost his fastball, maybe. But that's not a guarantee. And I'm on the defense side of the ball. TCO has a very experienced defensive line, but there are concerns on this defense. They lose three linebackers. Well, two true linebackers to the NFL. Very good. good linebackers and then they're like hybrid position DN linebacker also to the NFL and deal. They're a lot they're linebackers. I think you're going to take a big step back. I mean you're talking a major drop in quality. They lose a couple of multi-year starters in the secondary led by Bud Clark who did everything for them on the back end. His replacement fields kicked off the team the other week. What's going on with the TCU locker room? We don't know. But now you're going to be counting on a number of very inexperienced secondary members and that free safety position, which you don't want to have questions with against Patrino and same same linebacker. And it's not like this TCU defensive line is going to eat up opposing offensive lines. Now maybe the UNC offensive line is just that bad. But they do have a quarterback who has started previously at the power four level. And I just think TCU is getting people are betting this like they know the final score under seven different story. But now that we're approaching 10 given all the uncertainty on both sides, right? Like maybe UNC hits on the offensive line and this Patrino offense looks really good. And by the way, under's taking money, which means this is probably trending with the weather trending toward well lower scoring game, which favors the dog as well. So under's taking money, but favorites taking money, which makes the dog to me a little bit more intriguing. What do you see here? We're going to learn a lot about both teams. Yeah. Boy, I don't even know where to start. I am not a slave to my power ratings probably until week three or four when openers hit. And I believe in my numbers. But right now I make TCU minus 14. That doesn't mean that I'm thinking this game is automatically over. Why? Because I know who Bobby Patrino is. I know Bobby Patrino took a dog ship Missouri state team and had them firing four votes and you know scoring touchdowns like crazy. The second that he got to Springfield, Missouri. So I know the man can call offense two stints at Arkansas that I've seen. I also know that he has to have a running game. He has to have a bell cow running back or at least some presence of a running game to set up everything else that's going to come down the field. So is Benjamin Hall that answer is demon June that answer? I mean, I'm a little, I'm a little skeptical of their elusiveness, right? 2.5 yards after first contact. Only 12 mistakels forced by Benjamin Hall last year was 71 rushing attempts. And demon June had about the same workload. He only had 15 mistakels forced. So these guys are not really dodging defenders. I think that kind of plays into helping that linebacker stable for TCU. But we'll see how fast that UNC offense. How long it takes them to score points? Because you know, Billy Edwards, Jr won this job because he had a thousand flashcards of Bobby Petrino's offense and he said that he wanted to memorize absolutely everything that he could. And he won the job because frankly, he can process things faster than anybody else and he had ball protection. So they wanted to keep him. Billy Edwards, Jr. feels like he's been around forever. What was his best season? Like, can he handle the load of a Bobby Petrino offense? His biggest year was 2024 when he was with Maryland. He had 423 passing attempts, a very positive TDIT and TDIT and big time throw turnover worthy play ratio. He had 17 big time throws that were over 20 yards. So he has the arm to get it down field. I really feel, and he only had five mistakes and 137 pressure dropbacks. He can play quarter back. But you know, when you go to Wisconsin, like, it's just eating offensive players alive up there. It's like a black hole. It's like killing careers. But I do believe Petrino can resurrect him. Do get some production at him. But to me, it starts with the running backs of Hall and June and I'm not really too high on unless they've done some major workouts in the off season. They're going to need to be some big holes plowed by that offensive line. Now on the other side of the ball, we do like TCU a lot, but that's a season long thing. I mean, think about Gordon Samus and think about Joe Foniano up at Yukon. Did Joe Foniano just come out and start blazing it down the field, the second he took over his quarterback? No, it was a process. What you saw at the end was a polished product that was leading Yukon to win a ton of games. That's not what it was like right out of the gate. And so I expect Jayden Craig to still have kind of these. His number one rule for this weekend is protect the ball. They TCU is so fed up with turnovers, interceptions, fun bowls, the whole Hoover area was just turned the ball over, turned the ball over. It's the only thing Sonny Dykes can talk about is protection of the ball. So I don't expect Jayden Craig to be very mobile. If he is scrambling for some reason, I expect to do everything he can to get out of bounds or go down. This is not going to be like a glitzy game where he's going to try to create highlights right out of the gate. At the same time, why do I still like TCU in this game underneath 10? I think Steve Belichick, the him not being there on medical leave, is one of the biggest factors there. And you mentioned Bill Belichick having something off his fastball, but you know, it's Steve Belichick took over the defense for Washington when Jed Fish went up there. Like this was the number one defense in passing success rate, right? Nobody was throwing on Washington when Steve Belichick was there. I think it's a way bigger loss than anybody's talking about. I don't know where Bill Belichick's head is at. We can spend the whole podcast on that. The secondary is the most vulnerable of the three levels. Like of North Carolina's defense. And I think Craig and Samus is just going to go dink and dunk and maybe maybe hit the 10 19 yarders after a little maybe half time adjustments. This is slow roll into me stuck. Like weather wise, protection of the ball, not flashy, conservative. It's a 23 and a half on the first half. I took under 24. I would still take under 23 and a half. And I think what people need to realize is like four of the last five games of Viva, they didn't eclipse 45 points. Like this is a pretty low scoring stadium that could be weather, it could be surface, it could be travel, it could be anything. But this is generally not very high scoring. So what I take TCU at nine, if I had to take a side, if I was in a pick and pull, that's what I would go with. But you're losing a lot of value. The higher this goes up, I definitely love more of the under in the first half. And if this number somehow pops back to 48, I'd be firing that full boat. But I seriously doubt the numbers going that way in the total. Yeah, I would lead under as well. I think it's going to take some time for this TCU offense. I, you know, there's no McAllister's three new starting offense line and new scheme. They're going to go slower. They're going to try and methodically move the ball in the field. UNC is going to try and take away the explosive play. And what this is going to come down to is I think that I agree. The under makes sense here. But this could probably going to come down to is this TCU finish off drives with touchdowns or fuel rolls. Yeah, because it's going to, you know, if they're going to be chewing the clock up, and can UNC just bend, but don't break in the red zone as, you know, TCU is still trying to figure out this offense and, you know, Craig has to adjust to the speed of FBS. Look out for Jalday, the stud defensive end for UNC. So I think like UNC is going to be like, let's prevent the explosive play. And then we'll have our defensive line eventually make a play or get some stops in the red zone. I think that's how they want to play it. I think UNC is going to try and lean on the ground game as well. Actually, it makes sense that this will be a little lower scoring. I'm going to be, I like, look, I would not bet that I would not bet this game full transparency. I probably would not bet this game at this price if this was next week. But it's the first game. I'm going to bet it. I'm like, it's week zero. I'm the prime minister of the generation. I will have something on this game. So it's not going to be big. But as of right now, I just have a gut feeling and I might be on an island with this, but especially at 10, it would be UNC. And I'm going to wait because it's been apparently nothing but TCU money. I would actually, and I will say this, I think TCU could be so conservative in this game that UNC with Bobby Petrino running that offense could be the first ones to score. And so if you're worried about this TCU number running out, I really do believe you. If I could bet first score, I would actually think UNC is the first one to do it. I think the halftime adjustments completely belong to TCU here. Let's move on to the second game at three Eastern between San Jose State and USC. It's the Trojan's home opener. They are, let's just have to now, 39 and a half point favorites, total 60 and a half at Draftkings, been steady, USC money, some over money. Historically, early on in the season, home favorites of more than five touchdowns generally crush. And I think that's going to continue. And it might even be more lopsided. I think historically, it's like over past 15 years, 78% against this Fred. These love base teams are usually motivated to make a statement in their home opener. And that's basically what this comes down to. How much is USC want to win by? I make this 39. Yep. And I'm too high on you to say, I could argue that I'm not low enough on San Jose State. And the gap between these bottom tier G6 and, you know, these top 25 teams in FES is growing every year. So the gap might be wider, but like, what does, there's two things that'll decide this Fred. So like, how long do they keep their starters in? How aggressive are they? And then San Jose State going to run their normal offense, right? Just trying to throw it around. And because that would not be conducive to trying to cover 39. Do they play it a bit more conservative? So, but this San Jose State team complete reset, Luke Weaver will start at quarterback, the Hawaii transfer. Their defense got gutted. There's no returning starters. Twelve of their top 13 tacklers are gone. There's not much to like about this San Jose State roster like they lose the nation's leading receiver and Danny Scuidero, who's probably their best player. They're starting quarterback transfer to Duke. And you know, they lost two good linebackers. The defensive line looks very small and inexperienced. So USC could just line up here and mall them at the line and scrimmage and get whatever they want. But, you know, they lost some key receivers. Do they want to kind of get the timing down with the passing off? And so I don't know. This is, I have no interest in betting this game. I do have an interest in watching some of these USC true freshmen in this top recruiting class see like who's who looks real good, who's contributing early on. It's a kind of gauge to ceiling because that was one of the reasons I bought the upside of USC. So I'll be tuned in watching no interest in betting. If I had to, I'd probably lay it because just how the thought that the gap might be wider and I haven't downgraded San Jose State enough. But this is a pass for me. You got anything here? Yeah, I did bet. And it doesn't matter now. I did bet the over on this, but that number is long gone. 59 green key, 62 being close to key. So I don't know. It's kind of been a dead zone at 16 and a half on that. And if you look at the history of Lincoln Riley, in these games where there's a complete mismatch, I mean, he's winning these things from like 40 to 60, 70 points. So you know that he has no qualms about absolutely blowing the San Jose State San Jose State team out. Zero defense should be played in this game. This, I mean, this part is have projected one of the worst defenses coming up in the mountain west. And USC's linebackers and defensive backs are really probably going to be the weakest part of their defenses. So what that tells me is the Gary Patterson's 425 aggressive blitz front is going to have some real heavy guys on the defensive line. They're going to get after Luke Weaver. Well, how did Luke Weaver do last year? Hawaii when he had pressure in his face, a negative big time throughout turnover, worthy play rate, 11% turnover, worthy play rate when he gets blitzed. There could be some ultimately some great field position here for USC. And with Danny's cadero gone, I mean, you've got this laundry list of wide receivers would have come in from Anthony Ivy and Jordan Anderson had 20 catches from Sac State and Jerry McClure had one target in three years of college football. Now could there be a diamond in the rough, you know, maybe another player that gets scooped up next year and go somewhere else? Maybe. I mean, they're pretty good at scouting these kids and getting them in here when you consider the wide receivers in the past through San Jose State the last few years. So, I mean, it's possible. Is that going to show out here? I don't know. So, I think there's going to be some series where Lincoln Riley is going to make sure that Wave and Jordan gets enough touches so that he feels comfortable coming back from injury. I think there's going to be some offensive possessions where he's going to want to test out this new wide receiver stable for Jade Maeve and get them on the same page. So, I think this is a max possession game, get everybody comfortable game, and then maybe not have their foot on the pedal in six gear next week when they take on Fresno State, but we can talk about that next week. So, it's a USC name at game. And frankly, if you're going to play it that way, if you think they score a 50 burger, which I think there's a pretty high probability they do, the team total is over 49 and a half out there. Other than that, if you like the total, don't let it get to 62, which is the next key. I mean, when you're playing the full game total stock, you are dependent on that spread and shred of San Jose State having receivers that they can count on. And right now, you have zero visibility of what San Jose State has on the outside. Which means there could be a lot of quick freeing outs, which would be disastrous. Yeah, I mean, friends. USC has a cupcake first three weeks, so there's no concern about looking ahead. It's just a matter of like, how do they want to manage the starters and figure out the passing attack over these next three weeks? I don't know the answer to that. If I'm San Jose State, they play 13 games. The depth is really shaky. They have a short week road game at Eastern Michigan next on Friday. If I'm Ken, I'm going back to my option route. So I'm breaking out the triple option with Weaver. I'm getting the cover. I'm preserving the health of the team. And we're on to Ipsilani. All right, let's move on to an ACC till at 330 Eastern in Charlottesville, Virginia. Virginia, this game is supposed to be in Brazil. And it was moved back to Virginia. Virginia will host the game. So NC State got the short end of the stick on from a neutral site game to a road date at Virginia. These two teams met last year. NC State 135 to 31. But Virginia outgain them by 100 yards, 514 to 416 and Virginia average E yards per carry. This game will kick at 330 Eastern. Virginia's sitting this line has been all over the place. So it opened under a field goal, but that was when it was supposed to be on a neutral site, got up close to what 666 and a half and then got that back down. Now NC State at Draft Kings is sitting as a four point dog, total 52 and a half. So the under is taking some money. This is a pure shootout last year, but there are questions on both offenses. NC State lost smothers. They're starting to start running back to Texas. They're stud wide receivers Rogers, Tabama, Anderson to USC. Grimes to the NFL. They lose two tight ends to the NFL, including Justin Jolie, who was an absolute stud for them. It was a pair of three year starting offensive linemen. Peek at left tackle going to South Carolina was a huge loss. And then they're going to be moving some guys around like the right tackle, the right guard to center. So you know, they bring in Joe Joe Trader, who's supposed to be the number one receiver now. He's the reports are that he's had a good connection with CJ Bailey, who is back, but CJ Bailey is really the only known commodity here that you have a ton of confidence in. The Virginia defense was very good last year, but the secondary loses a lot. The biggest question I have on that defense is the cornerback room. You know, you're moving one of your corners that returned to the nickel, a former army transfer on plat. You bring one safety back, but there's definitely questions in the secondary. And they lost their top two pressure guys to the NFL and Milton and record. So how what is that impact for John Ratziski's defense? Can they still generate the same amount of pressure? And that's important against CJ Bailey, because CJ Bailey under pressure is. Last year when kept clean, 18 touchdowns, one interception, 75% completion percentage, when not five touchdowns and FPS leading eight interceptions and a 50% completion percentage. So that might be the key to the game there is Ken Virginia, how much pressure can Virginia generate against this NC State offensive line that is worse off and a running game that should also fall off a bit without Hollywood smothers. On the other side of the ball, Virginia also lost a lot on their offense. They lose a quarterback, a stud running back, six of their top seven receivers, but unlike NC State, Virginia has the most experienced offensive line in the country. 165 career starts. That is the strongest unit in this game. Bo Perbula will be the starting quarterback. The biggest question I have for Virginia's offense is the passing attack. The wider receiver room looks like it's going to be a pretty big downgrade. I mean, Deskitchens are often to coordinator when asked about the wide receiver room said, we got what we got. We have who we have basically like that. No, no, it's not necessarily a ringing endorsement. Well, at the NC State defense was a disaster last year. They could not tackle. They couldn't stop the explosive plays. And now their defensive line is just relying on depth guys. They lost three to the NFL, won the Michigan State. They have transfer linebackers. And they're hoping a more experienced secondary can take the next step in year two of Elliott's defense. Pressure-based, want to create negative plays. Virginia special team advantage here. Their special teams were excellent. Bring everyone back. NC State special teams usually good underdorn. We're really bad last year. We'll see if they can improve upon that. When I look at this game, you know, this line is coming down. Yep. The way I see it playing out, let's see what I make. I make it six. So I'm really low on NC State. It's just basically CJ Bailey. And I have questions across the rest of the roster. Right. So what I think is the determining factor in this game is I think Virginia, deep running back room, most experienced offensive line in the country, mobile quarterback, is going to be able to run the ball at will. Yes. So and if if they can do that early, get a lead, they can just keep hammering the run. You don't have to worry about for people having to throw unknown passing downs. And then you can put NC State behind. Virginia can draw a lot of his pressure packages. And then CJ Bailey throwing under pressure with a worst offensive line, a downgraded receiver room, a downgraded tight end room. That's when the mistakes will happen. And then Virginia keeps building that lead, keeps running the ball. And then I think eventually bleeds out this game and wins something like I'll call it 20. I think it's going to be lower scoring them much lower scoring than last year. I'll call it like 27, 20, 27, 17. So if this gets to three, I'm in on Virginia at four, probably in small. And we'll look for for some live, but I think that's the biggest difference is the advantage. that Virginia will have against this NC State defensive line that I have no confidence in. I think they're just going to get a push, you've got to run the ball, they're at home, home opener. I know they were, what will happen though is they'll get unlucky because they were lucky all last year than all bad them and then they're going to be unlucky, but they'll have like six turnovers. So I like Virginia here, how about you? I think Virginia segments should come with a warning label that this game could be a circus. I thought you and I were going to fight on this one. We're not. Like the reason why I have not put a single bet, I haven't put a single penny on this game and I haven't put anything into the action app is because the line is moving the way it's getting better and better for the team that I want to back. And I echo every single thing that you say, like when you break this down unit for unit, it's like, this is a Virginia game. Like this is a big time Virginia game. I mean, they have the ability to muck it up and do stupid things at the goal line and and you know, I know all of that, but you can't handicap that and we can't predict that. But you know, even, you know, Bo Pribule will be in the quarterback. You and I have never been a fan of that, but five grad students on the offensive line. That is some crazy protection right there. So it is just a massive, massive advantage for the offensive lining into it. It's he stayed has on the defensive line and from their linebacker units. I love running back to a Jekyll Middlebroke middle Tennessee. He was 4.1 yards after first contact. And he's kind of like the lightning. The thunder is going to be paid in Lewis because he's not flashy, but he had 10 touchdowns in two years of Tennessee. So that's probably going to be the red zone option that vultures some TDs there. And plus, like, I'm trying to lock this down as we're doing podcast notes and like note everything is everywhere, but like the Katron Evans, like the nose guard for NC State, did he get ruled and eligible as Jamel Johnson and like in the back of the defense that he just get ruled like he's waiting on his waiver since he's like a fifth year senior. Like, there's things with his NC State defense that I think aren't panning out that just haven't been decided. And it's just more things for a reason to like Virginia here. Now when you go to the other side of the ball, you touched on the offensive line. And now CJ Bailey is going to, you know, maybe have some problems with what's in front of him. His blind side tackle is going to be a severe issue here. They were really happy to get Jamari and McCrimmon from East Carolina. But if you go deep into his numbers, he has severe run blocking issues. Like, I mean, some of the poorest ones I saw out of all of like, you know, the tackles at his position, he couldn't run block at all. Plus, he allowed 20 dropping off from the number one left tackle in the portal. And to carry his TQ like South Carolina was thrilled to get to a guy to to to to McCrimmon who allowed 28 pressures in two years for East Carolina. Like that's not going to work. Like, you're not run blocking and you're allowing 28 pressures in two years. Like CJ Bailey is going to be harassed. Now, you know, Jayden Duke Scott is still there. 3.5 yards after first contact, 32 missed tackles for it. He's going to have to create a lot of missed tackles. If this is the kind of run blocking, he's going to get from the left side of the line. And you mentioned the wide receiver build. I mean, Jojo Trader has 19 career targets in Miami. He's probably great. But you got to get him the ball. And then Victor Snow comes in from the Mac from Buffalo 88 targets, 1.8 yards per out run out of a slot. So I mean, there's weapons, right? There's CJ Bailey doesn't know them, but there are weapons there. But he's got to get protected for him to even get the ball there. So, you know, if you look at Virginia, they have one of the best secondaries projected by the ACC units compared to what NC State has. So I am having a really tough time making any kind of case. And you know what the problem is stuck is that I think everybody was so in love with NC State preseason. They spent the last three months hyping up this this dark course role because of the schedule. But when you break it down, like that offensive covered is empty up at the front. Defenses got some issues in the trench. We got some players that are coming up and eligible. And if Virginia can just, you know, keep the clown shit off the field. And you know, they should win this game and they have no problem covering the spread. Now, unlike you, I make the game like Virginia minus one and a half. So, but I'm not stuck to that number whatsoever. I do want money on Virginia. I'm in the same boat as you. We can put this on the board right now or just say it's on the board of its minus three. The number looks like it's just going to keep taking NC State money. I think people are so in love with this preseason dark horse stuff that they're not paying attention to what's going on. I was talking about Virginia's, you know, what's so lucky last year, blah, blah. Okay. But who has the trench advantage in this game, right? Yeah. I don't know if you want to, like, put it on the board or not. But I'm with you. Like I'm waiting to fire. I don't know if we get down to three. If it does, it touches, it moves. You know it because you and I are hawks waiting to get on it. So we'll see. I'm getting a little bit more free if three hits. That's mine. That's kind of bad. I'll probably still be on a small unit that doesn't just as we steer up. All right. Let's move on to a late afternoon game in the Fargo Dome between Jacksonville State and North Dakota State, North Dakota State down to less seven point favorite total 46 and a half at Draft Kings. This will be North Dakota States FPS debut after winning 10 of the past 15 titles. I mentioned rematches. These two teams met what 10 12 year at like 12 13 years ago in the national title at the FCS level Jacksonville State made the transition a few years ago. This is a North Dakota State team that did has to replace some important pieces. They lost seven multi year starters on the defense and a their stud linebacker to Michigan. Now 11 of their top 20 in snap counts return. And they got a lot of guys to get snap counts because they will blow out teams. And then you'd have a lot of guys come in and get a lot of playing time. But they were playing against like some of those guys they're going to be counting. We're playing against overmatched backups of FCS teams. So what does that step up look like? Or you know the answer? Then you probably could set a better number on this than me. They're all offensive line also lost two all Americans to power four. So they're going to you're going to have new tackles are kicking one of their tackles into guards of the interior's experience. They're going to have two new tackles. They're quarter back and wide receiver or top receiver are off to the NFL. So you're going to have Nathan Hayes taking over. He's been with the program for a while. So he knows the system. They want to run the ball. They want to line up and they want to mash you and control the line of scrimmage control the clock. Jacksonville State's run defense was pretty good last year and they do bring back a number of pieces on the defense. Perry is back up front. Campbell comes back from injury. They're two linebackers Sanders and Osteen come back. They got two guys in the secondary that were starters last year that are also back. But there's some questions at the nickel spot. It looks like it's going to be an Albany State transfer. The outside linebacker position next to those two linebackers. Very questionable. You know, they lose a safety die with state. A nose tackle to the Andy. A defense attack to Illinois. They're best edge rusher to Florida and they didn't really bring anyone else in. It's going to be depth guys stepping up where I'm really worried about this Jacksonville State team is on offense. You have a new coordinator who was the tight end coach last year. You lose a really good OC and offensive line coach to West Virginia and speaking of West Virginia. You're right guard. Your left guard left tackle are off to Morgantown and you're stud running back who did everything for you. Cam Cook also moved on to country roads. Their running back room can be way down. It looks like what Jalen likely is going to get the start of 22 snaps last year. Five eight kid, Cook to him. Big down. Great. And then the offensive line. I mean, you lose four offensive line. And one of your guards is not on the depth chart that came back. So basically the only guys you're bringing back on offense are Creole, your quarterback. Yep, who started as a freshman. Your center and then your big, big wide receiver in Johnson who really flashed at the end of last year. He's six eight years. You're going to want to watch him and he's going up against North Dakota State cornerback room. That's very inexperienced. So he could have a big day. But who'd they bring in? They brought in, you know, Missouri State receiver who's going to start is not very good. A merry state guy in the slot. He was good there, but this is a step up in class. But I'm really worried about the offensive line. This is their projected starters left tackle. It's either then there's ores all over, which is not a good sign for the depth chart yesterday. It's going to either going to be a Mercer transfer or a former Hampton transfer at left tackle, left guard, a bad Nevada transfer or one of the backup left tackles from last year. You do have your center back. Your right guard is either going to be a Northern Alabama transfer or a true freshman. And your right tackle is going to be a merry state transfer who couldn't run block at Murray State, which is not great for a Jacksonville state team that wants to run the ball. So I think this all offense takes a big step back. This place is going to be juiced. First FBS game in the Fargo down. It's going to be electric. Can North Dakota state bottle that energy and not make too many mistakes? Jump out to a lead. And then if they do, this Jacksonville state team's not built to play from behind. Creole cannot handle pressure. We talked about CJ Bailey. Creole last year, 30, I guess a bad schedule. 35% completion rate under pressure. 70 when not. He did it. His completion percentage was cut in half under pressure. So if North Dakota state can use that crowd, get up early and then just go after Creole and then keep running them all and they don't have to throw themselves with you know a brand new quarterback, some questions at wider receiver, some questions at tackle, then I think north to go to state is covering this game so I make this like 9-10 and like I'm juicing up home field here like just given the spot this is a new location for Jacksonville state to but this is going to be an absolute electric atmosphere so this opened around that double digits and bent down to seven even six and a half at some spots at seven or below I mean I don't love it because I had some of these guys on Jacksonville brand new quarterback right questions at tackle questions at wider receiver are these defensive depth guys going to be able to step up and you know the next level but mainly as a faded I'm not I'm not in love with this Jacksonville state team especially in the offensive line I think they take a big step back so now that this line has come down at seven or below for me it's the bison what are you seeing here you and I are just agreeing all over the place it's crazy yeah the six they got down to six and a half and that was quickly that won't last all year everybody just a little week zero kumbaya I know I know so no I mean look there was some six and a half in the market and that was quickly scooped up here I'm not sure if we're gonna see that again but I do agree with you that not only do I like this number for reasons that are excess and owes but from a power rating perspective and again I'm not chained to those this early in the season but I made this two touchdowns SP plus made this ten and a half and even what Sagan came out I think that I think Sagan was ten and a half and SP plus was eight and half his numbers way below everybody and I'm around like I juice up the home field to where I think it should be just for this game I'm at like right around ten the number is really kind of I mean I I there's there's a difference between Jacksville State is you know I'm gonna go up there and whoopum cuz they're new and they're stepping up a class and then there's people that are just shaping numbers I'm not really sure what's going on of this but I do like North Dakota State for a number of reasons a temple is sex doing a little bit of his own or is and stuff like he's not really giving away who the starters are going to be he says that he wants a seven man rotation on the offensive line it's come in and try to protect Nathan Hayes but I think you know the running back combination you just got not very elusive miles Mitchell he had 18 carries as a freshman so they're kind of figuring out the running back position just like Jacksonville State is and if Hayes has to throw Jacksville State did have 24 takeaways last year between fumbles and interception so we'll see how that goes but you know for me the committee cap is the other side of the ball because when you look at this offensive line for for Jacksonville State that's going to go up against two interior defensive players one of them was an FCS all-American and Kenan Wilson at defensive tackle there's also Logan Larson they're both team captain so that's something Creel is gonna have to deal with and he's gonna have some pressure in his face who's running the ball here for Jacksonville State right Cam Cook is gone we got Lucas Farrington Jalen likely Kristen Lando he's the most experienced out of them all and he only averaged 2.4 yards after first contact so it's not like he's going to be very elusive you know likely he's getting the first the he's RB one and he has no experience whatsoever if I think he's five eight on the smaller side like yeah it's a huge drop off from Cam Cook who was like one of the best running backs in the country last year I think I think there's two things to stick out to me from the total in the side so from a total perspective both offenses are really full of questions and they're really full of questions when it comes to the running back stable so how quickly does it take them to get amped up and how quickly does Polisek know of the seven which five are the rotation that he wants on the field and then from a side perspective Jacksonville State is great as they were last year let's look at what they did on the road Sam Houston they won by two middle Tennessee they won by three and you tap they won by three on the road no disrespect to go into El Paso or Murphy's Burrow or what is it Huntsville look yeah and this team is way worse so I'm not you know when you look at it from that perspective how loaded that team was last year and they weren't that great on the road I kind of feel good about Lane and touched at Fresno State last year he was here a couple years ago so they're replacing four guys who went to power four and three multi-year starting offensive lineman a graduation there's seven guys they were placing with juco's and fcs guys and then they're starting quarterback from last year went to Maryland it's gonna be the back up there in Quarta Williams and they bringing Conklin is basically all of his experiences mainly at the fcs level so this is like an fcs level offense again this is a team that didn't even know until late in the process they were gonna make the transition the defense also lost seven transfers to fcs and they didn't bring in any fcs starters the linebacker room is the strength and the secondary does have some potential but the defensive line is very worrisome if the secondary does pan out and they hit on some of these guys we don't do have some promise that is good versus to Michigan it wants to throw the ball with no Kim and their receivers but there's this is a lot of uncertainty for sacks they I want nothing to do with them I would not I don't want to bet them I could see how someone would because I also don't want about Eastern Michigan I'd make Eastern Michigan 10.2 I thought I was gonna be bet make Eastern Michigan because I'm so low on sacks day but I'm right around the market here and East Michigan is a team I do not like laying double digits with their team you want to bet as a dog under crate and all they do is play close game 79 their last 109 games have been decided by one possession so for me I have East Michigan futures I have sacks the one thing I will say about Eastern Michigan it's a capitalize on the numbers you were talking about since 2022 as a favorite Chris Creighton is eight and nine against the spread the average margin of victory 4.7 points so if you're playing Sac State it's a complete numbers play and it's not because of anything that they have so if I'm feeling degenerate or maybe I had too many bloodies before noon I don't know but I don't know how I involved on the Hornets here that it's it's bad it's really bad and you can't trust Eastern Michigan it so a double digits no I'm not lying 10 I'd lay seven but not lying 10 all right let's move on to I guess let's hit let's get New Mexico State Florida state out of the way that game kicks at seven Eastern in Tallahassee Florida states a 30 and a half point favorite total 53 and a half I made I only make this like 28-ish but do I bet in New Mexico State no no I don't have much faith in my floor my could be off in Florida state I New Mexico State is bad I mean they're gonna be starting a firm in transfer to a head and a quarterback this is a team that program that is just deteriorating it's just like Chico guys and FCS it's bad how does offensive corner day videos still have a job that's what I look they can't run they're not going to run the ball that's bad as a dog an overmatched dog like they're not gonna be able to eat any clock but this to me and like at New Mexico State does have some experience on the back end of their defense but their D line is bad and they like they're gonna have no pass rush Florida state could just line up and run it on them they're wide receivers are very talented so they're gonna have big advantages on the outside I this is gonna be men first boys but what this comes down to what what does Florida state want to do here they want to like a norvel has been getting shit does he want to flex in front of the home fans I mean I don't even know how full well he needs that yet is you want to do that or does he like hey because he's calling plays this year do I want to not so like does he want to get the timing down and make a statement and flex or does he say I'm holding a lot back let's stay healthy because they invest in you on deck yeah yep so I don't have nothing for me here no I've zero interest in betting this game what do you got here I mean you got to do Swarovansson and Danzean Boggs on the outside you have weapons there for Ash and Daniels to get comfortable are you gonna let him float that out and put that on tape for us to me to look at contribute on Weissner's isn't after that injury you know he was very good at Texas and then has an injury season it is he back do you want to you know test out his legs here before SMU or how they play it much a chroma is going to have a big day I would look at chroma props yeah I agree I agree but I think if you're gonna have any deliverable for this game it's gonna have to come in the first half because of the SMU factor so does Norbell history of Florida state forget the SMU look ahead look at what Florida state has been in the first half of their games and the first game of the season they scored 17 points on Bama in the first half last year 14 of their 21 points two years ago came against Georgia Tech in the first half like they have been prepared in game one in the first half then you want to throw in the fact of their playing New Mexico state well they put 66 up on Kent they be East Texas A&M 77 to three a couple years ago 41 to 7 on Charleston 58 to 13 on North Bama and 66 to 13 on Southern Miss and 2023 it is um bludgeoning it's a murder so we got a combination of Norville loves to run these teams out of the building SMU is coming up on deck to me this is first half team total points over first half spread Florida state first half game total over that those are the only ways you can look at this game yep I don't disagree with any of that and even though my number is a little lower anecdotally and how I think this plays out like this this is like 48 to three or something Florida state I put a bet on the board on a bird on a 50 burger coming yeah this one should be okay I think that these these weak zero week one power conference teams versus the bottom of the G6 like historically they've these big favorites have done very well in this spot I think it's only going to continue because the gap is growing and this is this is about it I think Norville is going to choose to make a statement and he's done that historically rather than worry more about SMU next week all right let's move on to a very interesting game it's seen a lot of different opinions on this game between Hawai'i and Stanford a big battle in the market on this one all over the place Stanford took money early Hawai'i recently took money and this thing has settled around Stanford minus 4 at driving total 48 and a half Hawai'i I'm a seller of this year outside top 100 returning production this is a team that lost seven multi-year starters on defense four on offense their wide receiver room lost stud receiver Harris Ellis you yes we know that here and white to Kansas State who are they going to count on the FLA Ashlock well he's questionable we don't know if he's going to play dealing with an injury that means you might have a brand new receiver room and in this run and shoot offense timing is so important so the timing might be off for Hawai'i especially if Ashlock is not out there and the White receiver room just doesn't have as much juice against the Stanford defense that could not stop the past last year by the way this was a rematch of last year Hawai'i 123 to 20 I think Hawai'i Michael Alhado's back a quarterback but I think they got worse everywhere else every position group and there's special teams to special teams huge drop is an all-american kicker that a great run it's gone right I mean it's a lot yeah this this is a I mean the four-wide they're gonna play four wide receivers spread it running shoot aggressive defense 425 but last year they couldn't stop the run at all and I think that's gonna be pro problematic here and their defensive line had real losses that's to be problematic in Stanford because look Stanford brand new coaching staff they bring in Richard as the head coach they have a defensive coordinator who is part of the Legion of Boom back in with the Seahawks so they're gonna have some implement some pro stuff so maybe it takes some time and there's some growing pains Davis Warren X Michigan guys gonna be starting a quarterback what do I have confidence with in regards to Stanford? Well, they returned four offensive linemen and they can lean on Michael Ford in the backfield and I don't think why he can stop the run. I think that's what Stanford's gonna do. I think they're gonna try to pound away. Their defense does have questions. It will be looks schematically different. I like Rose at linebacker Nicholson in the second eye, but there's questions elsewhere. I'm a seller of Hawaii. Where do I make this? I make this. Yeah, I'm at two and a half. I'm at seven, but I am super, super, super low in a lie. It's my favorite one of my favorite windows under in the market. I think Stanford gets their revenge at four. I'm in small, hoping for more Hawaii steam. This is similar to like very similar handicap to Virginia and C state. I think Stanford's gonna be able to run the ball, lean on their offensive line and they're back. And the other team, just like NC State, they have their quarterback back with all hate over. They lost all their weapons. They got worse everywhere. And ultimately, just like I think Virginia does at home and gets their revenge. I think Stanford gets their revenge at home. So I think I think this will be lower scoring because like I don't think why it's going to be the timing is going to be off. They're not as good at receiver. I don't think there is good offensive line. So I don't I don't think they're going to have a ton of success moving the ball. And I think Stanford will be able to run the ball, turn the clock, control time, possession, and then bleed this thing out. I'll say my prediction for this is, I'll go 2720. Stanford, you got anything here? I was thinking maybe 2320 again. I don't know how you can back Hawaii. And I'll tell you why. Because fulfill Ashlock is not well, okay, as of four days ago, the source that I was reading and that I trust says there's absolutely no like hidden thing going on here. Like the fell Ashlock is not going to address for this game. And so what does that leave you with? Thomas Euligata, I mean, no TDs in two years, Blaze Kamaku, 11 targets, one TD, Carson Brown, two years at Iowa State, 34 targets. I mean, there's, there's Harris, right? Washington, he's got to be good for them. Yeah, has to be, you know, but then again, Stanford's kind of had a problem finding the corner in camp opposite of Brandon Nicholson. So we'll see how that goes. I think the other thing that Bob is me about Hawaii is the kicker and punner. There's only one of those on the roster, Hudson Borsair is the only kicker and Sean Olvera Harla is the punner. So the Tokyo toe is gone. You don't have the, you can't depend on those special teams like you have before. And then, you know, for, you know, I think at least Stanford, it's like I said in our ACC preview, at least they have a vision. They know who they want to be. Andrew Lux down on the field, helping coach. They haven't named a starting five publicly at the offensive line. You can name a couple of kids that are on there. I think, you know, once from Harvard. But, you know, this is should be a sound team that gets better at not making mistakes, wants to run the ball. I just, look, I make it 2.6 numbers at four. I don't think there's any way Stanford loses this game. So I think if I had to make a bet right now, I put a Stanford in a money line with Virginia. Like I already mentioned it, like it's kind of the same handicap here, but I think Hawaii is going to struggle much more than they did last year. And I'm not so sure a whole under on this game for the full game. It isn't is in line also maybe even a Hawaii first half under. I mean, I don't know who's moving the ball for this team. I don't think they can kick field goals. I got a brand new kicker. There's all kinds of issues for Hawaii here. So I definitely wouldn't bet them. And I think an under is probably the also the play. Alright, let's finish things up with UNLV and Memphis, another market battle. Your UNLV early money got out close to a touchdown. Memphis had some buyback. Now we're sitting at UNLV minus four and a half total 56 and a half. By the way, while we're recording this, I think there's about to be a three and a half at the board. So go ahead. Well, my number I make this UNLV minus one and a half. Do I have any confidence in that number? No. I mean, these are new team. UNLV 116th and returning production. Memphis is brand new completely brand new. UNLV's chosen name to start in quarterback. Jackson Arnold didn't win the Java. Him and now Georgia. You're going to see both of them. The one thing we do know with UNLV, Jane Thomas, they're running back as a study. He's going to be the bell call. They're going to feed him. They're going to feature him. It looks like Stokes is won the job for Memphis speeding out air. No, and kids got a lot of talent, but he was at D2 West Florida last year. So like he's big step up in class here. What are we going to get from him? I don't know to be honest. I can't wait to watch this. These are two teams that it could be in the running for this game as like college football playoff implications. These are two teams that could threaten in their conferences and like this is a big game for them to get. UNLV is awaiting word on two or three guys in their defense speaking of eligibility. Welch Spellman Fuller. Their defense was bad last year and they could not prevent explosives. They gave up way too many explosives and that's not great news against Kevin Decker. The offensive coordinator comes over from all dominion once it spread you out, hit explosives all over the field. That could be problematic for this UNLV defense, but this Memphis team is I mean it's Charles Huff making his annual move. They have 55 guys they've run in the portal 85 left in the portal. The defense is going to be heavy southern miss like and they got some good players that they brought from southern miss but there could be like seven or eight starters from southern miss. So there's some continuity there. Lance Gidry is going to take over his coordinator and expect some aggression and then the office coordinator is coming from ODU with a D2 quarterback. So like a lot of uncertainty there. But schematically might have some advantages against UNLV and then like what are we getting at? What's the rotation going to look like quarterback is like I want to bet this over. I think this is going to be a shootout. This should be a fun watch like late night. 10 Eastern. I think this game could use this turn into a zoo. But like is UNLV just going to run it too much to like where. And then like to what can I really trust Stokes on the road and FPS in the first game. So I don't know this is really tough for me at the current prices given all the uncertainty. I think the the best look is. Memphis money line just for the uncertainty just I don't know what to expect. There's some upside with soaks the orgy Arnold situation is in great. I'm not a fan of either. I do think that this Memphis offensive scheme could give you and all these defensive issues. And I know Memphis is brand new but it is a bunch of guys from southern miss. So there is some continuity there and they do have some really good players including tap. It's one to watch so no strong failure. I can't wait to watch both of these things I need to watch need to watch the quarterback situation. I need to watch some of the transfers but. Memphis money line probably my look but nothing stronger you got anything here. I'm completely would I think Memphis can win this game out right I mean I project the game to be you and LV minus one like yourself and do you trust Marcus Stokes more than you do say Jackson Arnold I would when I've got defensive in Jamont happen is 12 tackles for loss on my side with Memphis and I you know I think jet Thomas you know. For the UNLV running the ball he's going to have to find a way to get away from some of these monsters at Memphis is going to have on the defensive line this year. Yeah you're right 72 new players on this Memphis team 50 from portal there's still guys from Marshall that would play for landscape that made their way to southern miss that are now on this team. So you know I think it's really interesting is like I was like oh they're going to be bad because they have so many guys in the portal like yeah but it's just the same team wearing different colors right. They just paid a little bit better and they're wearing a different uniform and I think that's kind of what Memphis is this year. A little bit different of a story for Dan Mull in here without story and Jackson Arnold coming in they don't they really no answers a wide receiver whatsoever. The angel or yeah and you know after the two pieces they have on defense the interior Lucas Conti and came santi a linebacker I mean that's all brand new also. So you know I just think Memphis is going to be able to play defense while UNLVs ability to run the ball is about jet Thomas getting away from tap and some of those other guys on the defensive line. And I do like Kevin Decker as offensive coordinator and you know UNLV is rebuilding in almost every defensive position. I like Memphis to win this game outright I took it at five and a half I'd still take it at four I like I said I don't know how quickly we're going to get this up overnight. But I think we're on our way from leaving for and get into the threes after as close we get to kick off. All right before we get to our best bet I do have some giveaways I'm going to do the hats next week and week one.
