Chase Stokes Interview: Saying Bye to Outer Banks, Navigating the Public Eye + Life Before Fame
104m 26s
The episode concludes with a heartfelt interview featuring Chase Stokes, the final guest in the show’s original studio, which is now being completely renovated. The hosts celebrate the completion of the *Outer Banks* series, which has run for seven years since its 2019 premiere, emphasizing how the show’s final season delivered a satisfying, definitive ending after years of unpredictable storytelling. They highlight the show’s signature dramatic twists—such as John B. nearly dying 27 times—and praise the creators for closing the narrative with a true, emotionally resonant resolution. This approach contrasts with typical TV habits of leaving stories open-ended or planning spin-offs. The hosts describe the experience of being deeply invested in the show as akin to having a long-term roommate, and they express gratitude that it ended on a positive, intentional note. The episode also touches on other topics including the Jonas Brothers concert experience, a new season of *Dancing with Stars*, and recent entertainment trends. A brief spoiler alert is given for the show’s finale, noting that the full ending is discussed, though details are kept minimal. The hosts emphasize the show’s impact and its closure as a meaningful milestone in their fans’ lives. Throughout, the tone remains reflective, joyful, and celebratory of both the show’s legacy and the personal journey it represented.

What's up, everyone? It's Chicks in the Office with Ria and Fran giving you that Friday energy on a Monday.
Happy Monday, everybody.
How are we feeling on this glorious Monday?
Afternoon.
Happy Monday.
Well, Monday morning.
Yeah, yeah. It's still Monday morning for us, for sure.
You know, we're all out of New York City this week, which is lovely.
We're enjoying our time and hoping that when we come back, our new studio will be all ready to go.
But for right now, it's beautiful.
We had a bit of, you know, just a little bit of a rainy weekend.
And now the sun is shining gorgeous, so I'm excited to have this weekend.
I'm up on the vineyard.
You guys are also all away as well.
So we're, we're, this is good.
This is the, you know, end of August.
Soak it in.
Soak in these last few moments.
Right.
We have a poetic guest on today's episode.
Our last guest in the old studio.
We're, it's the same room.
We're just redoing it.
But it felt pretty, you know, full circle poetic to have John B.
himself, Chase Stokes, come in, re-hang up that sign that we took down that said,
I would die for John B.
And then that'll be the last of that sign in general,
because everything is getting taken off the walls and it's all being redone.
Yes.
Yes.
Everything is being redone.
We did have him sign it though, so we are keeping it.
Yes.
We're definitely keeping the sign.
It'll be memorabilia.
And we had such a great time with him.
I think it's such a great, a great interview.
Great interview.
And really happy that he came on, which is so awesome.
So everyone could look forward to that at the end of, at the end of today's episode.
I did tell him at the end of the interview that like, I was moved by some stories he
had told me on the Netflix Outer Banks podcast.
Some of those stories didn't make it in.
So it might sound odd when I say that.
And I'm not going to reshare his stories because I don't know why they weren't put in or whatever.
But he really did tell me some, some really touching stories that I genuinely teared up at.
And they were just really wholesome and nice.
And I'm not going to repeat them, but I ended up telling him that at the end of this interview.
So if that sounds odd, just know that it just was not included.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, that's so fair.
I also just love when someone can be self-aware.
You know, especially, especially a celebrity when they're like, you know, I get, I get
it guys.
Like I, I totally understand.
And that's how he is, which is fantastic.
It's a good quality to have.
It's, it's amazing.
And you, you know, you just never know because we get on here and we talk our shit and you
do it for fun, but then you realize, oh my God, these people, they, they do see it.
Of course.
Yeah.
Um, but.
Yeah.
I mean, you're, you normally, you're not in the same room as the people afterwards.
Then when you are, you're like, Ooh, right.
But there are so, he's so cool.
He's so chill.
He really is fantastic.
So everyone can look forward to that.
Yeah.
Interview at the end of today's episode.
Yeah.
It was a bit of a rainy.
We always are.
We can't, there's no way around it.
There's like no way around it.
There's no way around it.
And also like the rain really dictated a lot of your plans that you had been doing.
We've been talking about at the end of last week.
So like, we have to talk about it because that, that sent everything off the rails.
Right.
Well, I, well, I was going to have a big night on Thursday night and it got moved to Friday
night because of, uh, honestly, it was really scary.
There was some really terrible, uh, torrential downpour.
There was like a fricking tornado in Atlantic beach on long Island.
Like things I actually feel very.
Um, sorry for a lot of people who, their things got wrecked that night.
That is, it's, it was very scary and it seemingly came out of nowhere.
Yeah.
Uh, from my point of view.
Um, so that was dangerous.
And so we stayed in, but had a great fricking night on Friday, just danced my little ass
off and had so much fun.
Um, had some friends come over on Saturday as well.
So it was,
it was nice.
Great weekend.
Yeah.
That's it's lovely.
We left, we left Friday morning to get up here post Jones brothers.
But my God was even like trying to get to, to MSG was like, I, I don't live that far
and I couldn't justify getting in like a $75 Uber because all the price surges to go meet
my sister for a drink before.
And the, we actually,
we actually went to a place that's right across the street from the office.
So I was like, all right, I'm going to make a mad dash to the subway.
It's like one stop.
Like I can, I can do this.
No.
And we were in full glam because Haley did our makeup because we were doing photo shoot.
And I was, I mean, talk about wet rat.
Like I couldn't believe it.
I, I full glam and like I had my hair look so nice.
It was cold.
I was down and I had an umbrella and I didn't, I was not outside for that long.
It did not matter.
I was soaked.
My hair didn't dry.
My feet didn't dry like all night, but my, my socks were still wet by the time I got
home from the concert.
Like it just, I like looked in the mirror.
I was like, wow, God damn it.
Like, what the fuck am I supposed to do about this?
Um, there wasn't much, it was just a wet rat situation.
And then like, it's, that's having full glam, like having,
like eyelashes on and then seeing yourself like that.
You're like, I just am not liking what I, what I am seeing.
Uh, but other than, other than that, it was great.
The Jonas Brothers concerts from this past week.
I can't stop watching videos.
I can, I knew this was going to happen, that I was going to go down a wormhole of just
rewatching their videos all weekend long because Joe is doing this new thing when he sings
Burning Up.
Which is, uh, like a growl.
Yeah.
And Nick's face is so fucking funny in this one video where he's like, all right, we're
doing it again because he originally did it with a cowboy hat like two weeks ago and he's
kept it up.
I think it sounds phenomenal.
I think it sounds so good and it's becoming the new red dress in my opinion.
Like, I think it's like, I am, oh, but you don't like, I can't stop.
Stop.
Yeah, yeah, no, it's so good.
It's so good.
I have been eating these fricking videos up.
So how was it being there in person?
It was awesome.
Uh, full, like goosebumps, the whole, it was so funny.
My, they, we did the whole first set and then they do an intermission and they come out
and sing more songs.
But Gia was like, intermission?
Like she had no idea there was a whole second act.
Just thought it was the whole, because they do the whole Burning Up tour, that whole set
first.
But like, same.
Same opening, that same song.
They come out with the fire.
It just really, it really took you back.
They did fake us out on the flips.
Uh, they, they, they're doing this whole fake out thing and then they're going, ha ha ha,
not doing it.
However, Kevin does his guitar spin, which everyone knows and loves.
There are a ton of like nods to the, to that tour.
The Burn Up water drum.
Just a lot of fun stuff that they, that, that they brought back.
And then in the second set, it's so fun because they each play, they always, they, they got
like the jealous and cake by the ocean.
The ones that they always play.
I've been cracking up because all the Jonas fans are, have been kind of like tweeting
and posting on social.
Like the Jonas brothers can play the same show for the next 20 years and my ass will
be at every single one of them.
Like, and some people love.
That second set list, like just the songs that they picked, I'd love to have them mix
it up a little bit, but, um, obviously their choice and I, and I love all of them and it's
hard to cut any of them really, but seeing them sing changing, which is Kevin Jonas's
song, the three of them together.
Oh my God.
My heart.
It was so sweet.
I loved every, every second of it.
- It was so cute, and there's one moment
And Nick went, come on, K2.
And I went, oh.
I legit have a toxic relationship with them
because I was talking to all this smack last week
about how they always do this with the tour,
but we're going to eat it up every time.
I'm getting tickets to the New York show.
Like, I have to go.
I can't stop watching videos of them.
I do want to say that,
so my dad was unfortunately in the hospital all last week,
but he's home now.
So I feel better talking about it.
And he's going to be all right.
But he was a little out of it.
And he, I called him on Friday
and I was like, oh, how you doing?
He's like, you know, I started watching this new show,
Married to Jonas.
I'm like, new show?
He's like, yes, started watching this new show,
Married to Jonas.
I didn't know they had a reality show.
I saw it on E!
And I said, I'll watch a couple episodes.
And my God, it's so good.
And I'm like, Danielle, God, they're so mean to me.
I'm like, Dad, you know, this show came out 2012.
Get the fuck out of here.
My mom in the background, I told you it was old.
I told you.
So then we stopped home on Sunday to see him.
And I secretly recorded him talking about the show.
Married to Jonas.
Okay.
Yeah.
So we'll, we'll see.
Yeah.
Years ago.
Oh, we did.
Yes, we did.
The Kevin Jonas.
Oh, yes, we did.
The wife.
She's so sweet.
She had like years ago.
It came out in 2012.
Yeah.
It was so mean to her.
It was so mean.
Yeah, she's really sweet.
Like, I feel like I'm so ugly.
I feel, you know, everyone tells me how ugly I am
and I'm a gold digger and I'm this.
And.
That's what they say to me.
I don't blame her, I don't blame her.
That's what Madsen, that's what they say about me.
I've never heard that.
They made her do a photo shoot, a cover of Lifestyle
or something with the Hamptons.
And she, she did it and she looked beautiful in it.
And she was like, I don't look good enough.
They're going to, they're going to criticize me.
I'm not good enough for you.
I mean, what a way to have to live this poor girl.
I was like, but they're still together.
So.
Yeah.
He just went on and on.
Oh my goodness.
There's more, but he's like, you know,
I watched these three episodes.
My whole opinion changed about them.
What, what great, what a great guy Kevin is.
I guess.
Look, I think he.
She came out in 2012.
Danielle's family is, is right up his alley.
You know, they're all a bunch of New Jersey Italians.
I was like, oh, he, you know, he, I think in this, hold on.
I have, I wanted to play the second part.
I'm like, I'm going to play the second part.
I'm going to play the second part.
end of summer get togethers, maybe a party, pool party, having a truly variety pack with you is a
great way to walk into a party because there's something for everybody. And if you're hosting,

Grab a truly wild berry pack today. So we do have confirmation for Dancing with Stars
contestants. We got Connor Leavitt, Sarah Jane Nader, Julia Stiles, and Tatiana Ali. So we did
talk last week about Connor Leavitt being rumored and Sarah Jane Nader. Now, listen, I can't
believe that Connor is actually doing this. And I think there is a lot of discussion around. We
didn't know this was going to become like relatives of stars that have been on Dancing with the Stars
but this is the game that they're going to play these days now because you've got a lot of
traction on social media. You have the reality shows coming in. Sarah Jane Nader will be
partnered up with another female pro. I think that's very exciting. She is very entertaining.
And Connor is entertaining as well. I think it was, it was more just like a confusing, like,
okay, we're going down this path. Uh, on the other side of that, Julia, Julia Stiles.
What a pull. What a pull. This is a huge one. Here's the thing, because I I'm, I've been going
back and forth on this because in my mind, this show is so popular right now. I'm like, they could
be.
Casting the top of the top, but at the same time, I respect that they're still
kind of sticking to the formula and doing what has always made the show fun because
all the past seasons, this is sort of the formula that they would, that they would use.
And at the same time, like I see, I see people on TikTok complaining about it's all like,
it's all under the Disney umbrella. They're just casting people that are also Disney, ABC,
Hulu, the whole thing. I'm like, well, they've always done that. That's like, it's like always
been a thing. Um, and there have been some people that have been cast on this show that you're like
star question mark. Like you're that that's just the way it has always gone.
I was very surprised by Connor. I really did not think that that was going to happen. Um,
but like I said, they,
they keep it under, they keep it under the umbrella. Cause it's like, whatever, you know,
on one hand you got Connor, love it. On the other hand, you're getting Julia styles. So it's like
you, you get the range and that's what makes the season so good is because you have people
from all different levels of fame. And I saw the jokes of, Oh, like you said, the
casting people's spouses or siblings and people were referencing back to, to Dylan Efron. But it's
like Dylan Efron. Yes. But it wasn't like Dylan Efron had never done TV, TV, TV before. And they
were like, Oh, Zach Efron's brother. You've never, you've never met him before, but he's on dancing
with the stars. Well, also Zach Efron's never been on dancing with the stars. Yes. This is different
because I think people that have already been on it, people have been on it and then just people
related to them. So it's kind of like, wait, what? I understand people's confusion. I do 100% when the
season starts though. I think we're just going to be like, this is great and entertaining. And we
got people all over the map here. Um, and like you said, we got, we're going from Julia styles
to Connor Leavitt. And I think, you know what? That covers all the bases. It covers a lot. Uh,
so you know what? I'm just excited for the season. They got to be kind of pissed. This is all coming
out, huh? Like I feel like we have the whole cast at this point. Who's leaking all this?
Who's left? By the way, who do you think Sarah Jane Nader's
going to be paired up with? I was thinking
if it was Daniela, that would be, I was going to say Daniela, that would be insane,
but I feel like it could maybe be Riley.
That's going to be my prediction. Do you think if they had Haley bills come in,
they would maybe have,
Haley? I could definitely see that too. I, yeah. I'm just thinking like younger. Yeah,
no, for sure. That's why I was kind of leaning towards Riley and for that too. Um,
but it is, it is fun and different. And I think people saw what Jojo, Jojo see when Jenna did.
And I'm sure like the other female pros would be like, Oh, that would be sick to get to do that.
So I feel like they would all be down to do it.
I don't even know why I'm trying like really, or I think, I think Emma would also be amazing with
that, but really my thought is, my thought is probably Riley. Who is Guillermo dancing with
again? Whitney, Whitney, Whitney. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They did announce that Sharna is back,
huge. This is going to be so fun. I wonder if she'll bring back the red hair. Uh, this is going
to be so exciting. This season is going to be huge. I think they're planning massive big things
for this season. That's the vibe I'm getting. I think this is going to take up majority of our
time. Clearly because at the same time, well, we already know we're getting a two night opening,
right? Two night opening episode, which is amazing. Takes me back. Hasn't happened in years.
Takes me back to the good old days when you would watch all the dances one night. And then the next
night you'd have a full lemon.
Show all like you wouldn't just get that three minutes of who gets sent home at the end. But
I love this. Sharna's coming back. They have been teasing that this was going to be a big season.
And clearly it is going to be because you have Sharna coming back. You have whoever's going to
win, um, next pro the, we're going to find that out. And I think next week is the finale. Cause
this was just the semi semi-final. So that's another new person. You have Sharna coming back
and you wonder if that, if like anybody's being taken out.
To put them in or if we're just adding and we're not taking anything away. I feel like Haley has
been teased for so long. She's been, I, I would be shocked if she wasn't a part of this season as a
pro at this point, the way that they have really included her in everything. So I feel like that
could be another one. It's really interesting. And I'm, I'm really looking forward to this whole
big announcement at this point. We only got what a week till it comes out.
Yeah. Next week. So, but yeah, I mean, they got to be like, God damn it. And it's, it is really hard
because the paparazzi, everybody are all outside of the rehearsal studio. They're clocking everybody.
It's like, Oh, Sarah Jane ate her walking in with the mask, but then she's also walking into the
convenience store. She's in the same outfit. She doesn't, doesn't have the mask on. You can kind
of put two and two together that, that that was her. And now it's like, they got to take them to
a secret location or something because.
It's going to get, it's going to get spoiled pretty quickly, but I am, I am liking how this
is all shaping up right now with, with the cast that they have.
I think it's going to be very exciting to watch. And then just a quick note to wrap up the topics.
I just need to point out that Kendall Jenner and Jacob Lordy and all of these photos of them being
spotted in London and all around town. I can't get enough. I don't think we've ever seen both
of them be so public in a relationship. Like Jacob Lordy,
dated Olivia Jade for how many years? Five years. Barely saw them. Barely saw them.
Yeah.
Kendall Jenner and her relationships. You wouldn't usually see her holding hands with somebody
arm in arm. These two gorgeous, just a gorgeous fricking couple. I can't get enough of the
pictures. She's gramming on his big arms. Oh, I can't get enough. His big arms. Thoughts on them
being a PR couple because that's what all the comments are saying. No, no. This is what people
love to do. They love to call every couple a PR couple. Yeah. I will say in the sense that like
their last relationships, they're not seen often with them. And then this, they are seen a lot
together this time. A little bit more of a head scratcher. Well, maybe they just are like so in
love and they're so proud to be with each other that they're like, yeah, we're going to fucking
scream it from the rooftops. Maybe.
Maybe that's what it is. Anybody ever think about true love? No. Everyone just thinks about PR.
What would they both need PR for? They're both so wildly famous.
I, I, that's, that's where I always fall. I'm like, what's the benefit? What's the benefit?
She could go out by herself. She'll be spotted all the time and vice versa. Him too.
Same with him. They don't need PR.
Oscar nominated actor.
No. PR is for the Naders.
This is not PR. And I don't mean that as an insult. I just mean some people go out.
of their way for pr i don't think these two have to do that yeah i did like that picture of him
you know what what i like when um he he was holding on to the back of her belt loop and i
thought yeah i'm like fuck yeah love that they're probably just like they're they're just oh just
let them have it yeah i'm not falling into this pr combo people did the same thing with timmy and
kylie yeah why would timothy chalamet and kylie jenner be a pr relationship kylie's back on
youtube she's been posting some some videos she was showing off all of her cats people were
freaking out because she has a cat named ophelia i mean these four are going to be out and about
all the time kylie timothy i feel like we've already we've already seen it i'm shocked they
haven't all been on a yacht this summer they've been doing like where's that energy well they're
low-key camping you know they're glamping right right right kim's at the lake i mean kim and
the place too i love each other oh my god how happy talk about that one feel i feel like that's
true love sneaky yeah i'm so happy for them they look so like in love and happy they do they they
absolutely do i wonder do you think like what's uh i like that kendall's been going to
the premieres of his stuff party sneaking out in in and out out like they did the back entrance
coming to support him i wonder what his next do we know like what his next big
role is he's got a movie that's out like this have you seen this movie where like every time
i open tiktok it's a forced ad about this movie and the behind the scenes this movie i have no
interest the one the one that's out right now it's like some dog it's the dog movie right yeah yeah
yeah yeah but i don't think the movie is about
there's definitely
a dog involved because he there is definitely a dog i mean the movie is called the dog stars but
it's a it's a like an apocalypse movie it's a ridley scott movie and this movie's being talked
about like not even a little bit i know because every time i open it's jacob alordi like in an
interview being like you know i couldn't pass up the chance to work with ridley scott like blah
blah blah and i'm like anything that like has this much marketing like i don't think it's going to be
good probably but hey yeah you never know really
scott's great but i just remember seeing this trailer before both uh spider-man and the odyssey
and i was thinking wow i feel like they really haven't been talking about this movie like
at all and it's and it's um josh brolin it's a stacked cast margaret quali jacob alordi
premiering this week it is premiering this week i don't really see any reviews of it yet
though so i guess people haven't been able to see it yet
yeah there's not one single not one single review about it yet
we'll see what happens i mean he had a big they he was promoting withering heights for so long
it's probably like all right now i gotta promote this one that and uh and frankenstein right a lot
back to back was a real big one he deserves a break
um all right these two it's just two people that are two gorgeous people that are obviously like
of course they found each other yeah it's stunning you know yeah all right that wraps up the topics
all right let's get into the weekly
hey guys we're gonna take a quick break and we will be right back it's fran from chicks in the
office the weather is getting cooler and abercrombie's fall drop has everything i need
for the season the best-selling anf sloan taylor pant is a closet staple for me i'm always wearing
it to work events happy hours and i'm gonna be back in a minute
anytime i want to be a bit more dressed up and the viral dylan dress is easy one and done
perfection but my fall uniform will always be denim paired with a henley sweater a bra free
top it's comfortable effortless it just never fails find your fall capsule at abercrombie
shop in the app online and in stores all right now back to the show watch report where we talk
about the things we watch this week weekly watch report on monday weekly watch report on monday
weekly watch report on monday
so i haven't watched a ton because i had a lot of company this past week so
not much i had i'm still watching how i met your mother big twist in season three i've been waiting
for this moment i'm gonna give it a b plus very much enjoying love a plot twist love some drama
b plus sons of anarchy so i watched sons of anarchy when it was on tv years ago only
watched it one time through they just announced a spin-off called legends and it's basically like
i guess like a meta thriller where they are going to a convention for sons of anarchy
and then anarchy happens so i believe they're going like charlie hunnam is going as charlie
hunnam not jack's i gotcha i gotcha so that inspired
you
me to start sons of anarchy again
jack's teller man do you guys know about jack's teller i i've never watched it
holy shit yeah what a walk on that guy what a walk on that guy let me tell you he's got a strut
the death the definition of walking like it's heavy they say oh goodness no i didn't say that
i didn't say that that's what tiktok saying yeah yeah
not me those words did not come from me but i've just been watching the we were watching these
edits i said oh my god we gotta turn on sons of anarchy we gotta play this shit from the beginning
so we started watching sons of anarchy from the beginning it's a fucked up show but it's a it's
a really good show if anybody hasn't seen it and wants to binge an old show because there's a bunch
of new ones so why would i watch a new one when i could just watch an old one i what i need to
start watching some new shows what's his character's name jack's teller i know it's unfortunate it's
unfortunate that it is very close to jack i will say on tiktok i i you get the for these are the
first four things to come up jack's teller jack's teller edits jack's teller best moments jack's
teller heavy walk yes yes it's that's that's number four on the list right that's the thing
on tiktok they they say he walks like it's heavy i see it now i see it now i'm seeing a lot of them
wow wow there's a lot there's a lot of videos about this yes yes
uh so jack's teller is an icon and it sucks that his name is so close to jack's teller
yeah yeah but i'll give uh it's hard to grade sons of anarchy because i've watched it before
a minus could put an a minus it's good surviving barstool been watching
i don't want to spoil it
for people who are not caught up because i know that some people are behind
but i have been thoroughly enjoying well can we talk about the one from wednesday
yes we can like i feel like there's been enough time yes yes yes because i was peeing my pants
at matt faking this ankle injury and watching it
is so funny because dana just falls nowhere near nowhere near his ankle
that i was cracking up because i was like oh my god like in the moment i'm sure he already decided
what what injury it was going to be but watching the replay is like it could have been a shoulder
a wrist like but it's just like dana landed nowhere near his ankle also watching it back
it is like damn it would have been a lot easier for him in the long run to like fake a shoulder
injury or something absolutely because now he's like oh my god he's like oh my god he's like oh
he's hobbling on one leg in the next episode to keep up with this lie that he hurt himself
now there was a lot of discussion about the medic being able to know right that's not on marty though
like no it's not at all he did what he had to do he did and what it said and like that's on
production for allowing that so he did what he had to do and whatever but i genuinely was crying
laughing watching this i watched it like three times when he turns to dana he's like brace you
i'm like i'm just cracking up i cannot get enough i it he is so being himself and so funny and i am
so happy to see that i really am um so i've really been enjoying and i mean i i don't want
to spoil for people because i watched last night's episode too yeah so you know more more has happened
since then yeah but all the reactions were top-notch like dante seemed so genuinely worried
you know nikki smokes wheeling him around in a wheelchair
it's just it's too funny it's really just some good stuff he's like marty like you're one tough
motherfucker like and and the fact that he's keeping up with the hobbling and and the you
have to you have to commit to it because now if they know he's faking then they'll go oh he has
an idol like if you just put two and two together he doesn't want people to
know he has an idol although half the cast for sure like they'll all be like every time liar
he's the bill be like oh look at him lying about his injury every time
he goes the only people that know and proceeds to name five people. I'm like, that's not so many
people. So many people. Yeah. I'm, I'm pretty annoying to watch it with. We were watching
Sunday night's episode with, um, my in-laws and I was just commentating on what was happening.
And, uh, my father-in-law looked at me and goes, you're a tough one to watch this with.
I'm like, yeah, I gotta keep my mouth shut. I gotta keep my mouth shut. That's so fair.
But it's very entertaining and, uh, I'm excited to continue watching, but good stuff. I mean,
they've definitely changed up some things, you know, the missions are new and I feel like people
have a lot of feelings on whether they like that or don't like that. Some of the missions are
obviously way harder than other missions. You got, I mean, just a, just Sunday night.
I was fucking crying when Tate's like, man, I'd do anything for half an idol. And they're like,
why do you keep saying that? Like, why is half an idol? When Pat was like, why is half an idol
popping into your brain? Some of it's just funny, but I will say there's a lot of discussion going
on about like, Oh, I can't vote this person out because we're so close to dah, dah, dah. It's like,
yeah.
Everyone signed up on a show that they knew the cast of. So you, you knew the probability of having
to vote some people out that you're friends with. Like, you know, everyone works together. Everyone
is, you know, some people are closer than others, but that is the game. And unfortunately that's
the way it goes. And it's really played to certain people's advantage. Like that have really tried to
make it work. And I think that's, I think that's, I think that's the way it goes. I think that's
the way it goes. I think that's the way it
connections with everybody. Just from Wednesday's episode, I was so surprised too. And he's playing
well, but like Pat, I think Pat gets it. I think Pat like knows how the game works. And when he was
like, guys, like this is, we, this is a moment to try and, and get Roan. And it's just like,
but Roan is really friends with everybody that it's working out well for him in some of these
moments. Like even Brandon Walker, like, I think there was a moment Brandon Walker was like, I can't
vote for Roan. I was like, what? Where did that relationship come from? Yeah. There's just certain
ones that I'm like, what do you mean you can't? Like, listen, if you and I were on different
story where I would be like, I cannot vote out Fran and you would be like, like, I would think
that's how it went. Unless we got to a point where we were like, we, we'd probably look at each other
and go shit. Time has come. Our time has come. This can only go so far. So I do understand it to
an extent, but the random ones like that, I'm like, you guys, I didn't even know you were
friends. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, but that is, it is a big dynamic so far this season with the
guys too. And it's been interesting to sort of see like a little bit of a Chicago, New York thing
going on. It's, it's good. It's been good TV. It's been, it has been a good TV. It has been
very entertaining. So catch up. It's on YouTube. So you can catch up if you, uh, have
been watching and I think it goes until Labor Day, I think is the finale. So catch up on that.
I, uh, Surviving Barstool, I mean, am I going to grade our, our company's own show?
A plus. A plus. Um, what else? Oh, um, the Outer Banks official podcast. I'll give an A plus.
Hosted by Rhea. I will give an A plus. I actually watched the entire thing.
Uh, which I usually really, contrary to popular belief, really do not like watching myself
at all. I, I hate listening to my own voice so much, which is so funny because we talk all day
long, but I, God, when I hear myself, I'm like, ah, but I did watch the entire thing. So I'll
give that an A plus. And then Outer Banks, I watched a while ago. So I'm not going to grade
that because, you know.
Yeah. Yeah. And it's hard to, I haven't, I haven't finished the whole thing yet. I'm,
I'm, I've watched six episodes.
I mean, there's a lot of episodes.
There's a lot. There's a lot. And they're long, and they're like longish, you know?
Yeah. And, uh, that's all I watched. It wasn't that much, but we did talk a while.
Yes. Um, so I am six episodes into Outer Banks and just really like, I'm going to miss this show
because God bless this show. God bless this show. It's complete.
It's complete disregard for any logistics ever. I, it is so wildly entertaining. Like I was
watching, I was texting you cause I was like, I just, this is just too good because like
when they just pop back in the Outer Banks and they're like, and John B's narrating,
they're like, yeah, they sent us on from Croatia. It's like, okay. He pulled out a gun and was
running through the streets of Croatia with a gun, like for quite some time. And you're
telling me the authorities just went, ah, let's just send these crazy kids back to the U S it's
so ridiculous. It is so ridiculous. It's so good though. Like, and then I texted you about this
too. I'm like, John B's just out on his boat and it just said giant fucking package of marijuana
just floats by. That was my favorite storyline from this season. Him having to turn to Rafe and
be like, what are we doing with this? Yeah. Yeah. I, it, it did seem like they were in dire and
need with, with straight up no money whatsoever. And they have nowhere, nowhere to live. I mean,
the most absurd part about this season is that, uh, you pretty much forget that Sarah Cameron's
having a baby. Cause 100% the entire time you're like, you're like, are, is she, is she still like,
is she having a baby or not? You're like, is she okay? Yeah. Is anyone checking in on her?
Has she been to the doctor? No. Any appointments? Any appointments? No doctor.
They have no money. They have no money. Um, yeah. I mean, of course there's like, I think
the, the key of it all and the obsession with, with maybe trying to bring JJ back. It's just
like, you knew that she was going to have to just work through that one. Like you're just
going to have to, you're just going to have to process. Uh, but he, he is a good
Groff, good villain. He's so punchable. God, God, that guy's annoying.
Really annoying to watch. Um, but it is good. Even in that, like when they were still in Croatia,
this was earlier in the season and Finch came to try and get the crown. And that poor woman was
just like my money. And I looked at Joe, I just went, she's getting shot in the head. Two seconds
later, I was like, damn, she's going, she's going, she's going down. Uh, but I'm excited to see how
you did have to spoil it a little bit for me when we had chase come in because we wanted to talk
about the end of the show and how things all wrap up. So I know sort of like what happened. I just
don't know how we got there. Yeah. So that is a spoiler alert for the episode. We'll say that
again before the episodes for the interview starts. Cause we talk about, uh, we talk about
the end and that's a big thing. Despite I, like I said, I'm, I'm definitely watching all the
way through. Uh, we watched lanterns, which is new HBO. Yes. Um, which is in the DC comic world.
It is in the James Gunn universe. Kyle Chandler, huh? In it. Kyle Chandler. He is a Jack of all
trades. He really is. And let me tell you, we were talking about this a long time with my family last
time we were watching. He looks great. Talk about a guy that's just gotten more gray and more handsome.
Like he's just, and, and, and I hate saying it because it, it always is so annoying. It's like,
oh, these guys, they just fucking go gray and they still look good. And, and he does, he is, uh,
the cast. And then the other guy, this guy who plays John is also incredibly handsome. My
goodness. The two of them together, uh, really quite the pair. You can count on three things
in this podcast, the weather, the Jonas brothers and hot guys.
And sometimes all those things interlap into one.
And you know what? I felt it. I, so we watched the first episode again. Cause my, well, my dad
and my brother watched it again with us. Cause we hadn't seen it. And then we went right into
the second episode. It's really great because it is very like, it is superhero, but it is also
sort of that.
That buddy cop type movie as well, which is really cool. And already very locked in. Like I give those
first two episodes in a really good. Um, I think it's like, it's like, I was getting like true
detective vibes from it, but with a superhero element. Okay. Do you think I would like it
because Matt really wants to watch? I do. Yes. All right. All right. Cause it's not, it's, it's
still very much mystery.
And there's like a time jump. So right away in the first episode, you are getting
getting like an origin story for john you're you're in 2016 and then you're in 2026 and in
2026 you're you just get for a split second something real bad happens in 2036 so you're
then it jumps back to 2016 so you're like oh it's it's very good well-paced kyle chandler's great
um and it's like it is it's i know i see a lot of people comparing it to sort of like a penguin
type situation where it's like you're in that comic book universe but it's not like over the
head superhero comic book uh stuff it's just like you know intergalactic it's you got to worry about
aliens it's about aliens really so it's uh it's really really good really like that a lot uh dave's
screaming at us to watch furious so we got to put that on our list we are definitely gonna watch
furious commented on a post from weeks ago when the show is out but i do
really want to watch it because that's that's the one with emmy rossum right yes yes yeah it is very
interesting yeah yeah i really want to watch that that's on my list uh i'm all caught up on next gen
nyc which i believe you are as well yes i am i am all caught up we're all caught up um god i hate to
like i love to hate and i hate to love this show it's just one of those things where you're just
really locked in to some of this to some of this behavior and the friend group i i think what they
all talk about it's
fascinating it is fascinating i think brooks marks is one of the worst people on reality tv ever i i
i just yeah i'm sorry i just don't like when the shtick is not knowing what's going on no like even
in his interview when they were like talking about their flights to bravo con and he the
producers was like well the government shut down and he was like the government shut down
and she's like yeah it has been for like a month like it's yeah and like that was breaking news to
him i was like i i can't that's that's a level that i can't get down with no no no it's brutal
it's like not even funny to me like no no i don't find it to be like haha i'm like no no no that's
just like embarrassing like and it's not haha funny right when you're living like that much
in your bubbly that you don't know that's going on so exactly was a little bit crazy to me but
i really like these newer additions like i like um what's what's brook shield's daughter's name
ro ro uh ronan rowan rowan it definitely starts with an r definitely an r i like her despite
forgetting what her name is right now right she hasn't been that big of a player yeah yeah she
thought she's good element yeah yeah and i like liam a lot i think rowan yes rowan i think liam
was also a really good addition because you needed somebody to stir it up a little bit with ariana
um they were smooching in front of everybody yeah it was all the whole thing what whole thing
and my god like when i saw ariana sitting sitting in coach next to charlie i thought
this guy's this she's charmed by this guy we got a we got a problem
because if you're giving up allegedly giving up your first class seat to go sit back there with
him that's saying something yeah that means you're in pretty deep that's
that's saying something pretty strong um so it's been good i'll give it like
i don't know i actually really do enjoy it b minus like i i think it's
yeah uh compared to some of the other stuff that i'll also give it a b minus as well so
i'm in i'm in the b minus i have only watched one episode of ultimate girls trip they're
celebrating 20 years of housewives they're traveling all over the country they're going to
they're doing all these things i'm excited to watch the whole uh excited to catch up i'm behind
i've only watched the first episode when they were in uh when they're in the oc i've never
really watched oc so it doesn't hit like as hard for me despite knowing a lot of the lore and
hearing a lot of this this stuff and vicky is just some type of lady like just we're having
a good conversation theresa's kind of talking about all the you know the tax stuff
going to jail she's being pretty open about it and vicky's just like paying taxes that's why i
pay my taxes all the time like it's just like vicky shut up i forgot i did watch vicky is
vicky this is why you pay your taxes every year on time every year on time
and everyone's like vicky shut up uh-huh uh-huh we need that though we need that
yeah yeah when she handed them all like uh uh packets to sign up for life insurance
i was cracking up um episode one i'll give a b i'm excited because i think it's only going to
get better as they travel around the country and visit all the other all the other places
and see all the other housewives and all that and all that jazz um i'm caught up on next pro
i'll give that a b we're right at the semi-final which i haven't watched yet
um i'm excited because i think it's only going to get better as they travel around the country and
which because i believe it airs tonight i was always confused if it airs sunday night or monday
nights but i think monday night's on like actually on tv but i've just been watching on hulu um i
thought that that was a little bit of a tricky elimination in this last one because sometimes
i feel like when when when you have a pair dancing like ballroom and so many things they
talk about all the time in this show you're you're there to like
show off
the the female part and she has all these moves so it's kind of tough like when you're being judged
and like the two bottom were people that dance together because then it sometimes always feels
like it ends up being the guy that gets the short end of the stick which is a little bit of what
happened because i thought that guy was really fantastic with guts i don't not to you know if
you're not caught up but um that's that and caught up on ted lasso
it's like
it's like
i don't know i'm waiting for it to get good if and i'm and i'm hoping it does
definitely introducing some new characters which i like
that's in like the b minus category for me as well right now i'm still enjoying it still
watching it um but that's where i'm at and then same with lioness lioness airs on sunday so i
haven't watched this last sunday but two and three i'm still enjoying it so i'm still watching it
i watched last week this show is so fucking intense but it is so good just some great like
crazy shit happens in this in this show and zoe zaldana agrees to do a lot um on this show
that is really intense but i i just think um it's very very entertaining
was locked into the season i'll give this i'll give episodes two and three a b plus
and that's everything i watched
okay i don't have much i have two rewatches that i rewatched in theaters both of them
uh so i rewatched la la land the 10 year anniversary uh and i mean it's an a plus
it always will be it was uh funny that like i was it was me and then like another like
seemingly like just guy by himself
next to me and i'm like we're not really fitting like the demographic of what i would think this
10 year anniversary but we both enjoyed it uh but yeah that's just an all-time it'd be good to see
it on screen the last time i saw it in theaters was when it came out and i was in la 10 years ago
um so i texted my friends like i'm going back solo but yeah just i mean i don't know how many
times i can tell rio to watch it but one day maybe
she will yeah yeah and honestly i timed it up perfectly this time because you know how it's
like 25 to 30 minutes after the list of times when like a movie starts in theaters so i usually go
like around that time and i guess i don't know if it's because it's old this time but uh it started
earlier so like when i walked into the theater like i hadn't missed the beginning but the beginning
part is like the one part of the movie i just do not care to watch at all it's like which is what
scares people away i think it's like yes which is
why i've i've shut it off every single time the first time i saw it like as like not really a
musical guy i was like oh god like this is gonna be bad so this time i walked in and like it
literally had just ended and it was like zooming in orion gossing in his car and i'm like that was
the most perfect time i could ever ask like the movie should just start there no actually uh but
the last like the last half of the movie is just unreal um so yeah that's an a plus and then
uh the other night i re-watched tony the anthony bourdain movie but on the cape which when i first
saw that i was like i have to see this movie on the cape um because the whole movie is set in
provincetown in 1975 and i was like this will just hit different like it was an a when i saw it in
new york but in the cape um if i wanted to go super like meta like i would have gone to
provincetown and seen it in provincetown that was the last time i watched it and i was like oh my god
little, I don't think I could have got my family to do that. So, uh, we saw it in Chatham, but
Still, it was like it did like on the Cape, like every time it I mean, the whole movie is on the Cape, like every time it was like a landmark or anything.
Yeah, it was like like the oohs and aahs, like cheers from the crowd.
Oh, that's so fun.
And then the home field advantage.
Yeah, that's awesome.
And then there's like I won't not that anyone would probably even know the song, but there's like a song that plays at the end that is like specific to the Cape.
And like when that came, like, it's just my my my aunt and dad came out crying, like great movie.
Oh, my gosh, that's amazing.
But people I see I want to see that people now say that they think Leo Whittle might get nominated for this.
Really?
That's supporting and Antonio Banderas.
But yeah, I want to see it.
But yeah, just great movie.
And yeah, I said it last time, but Leo Whittle, he's he's my guy now.
He's rising up.
Big fan.
Yeah, that's yeah, I'm a fan.
I was going to say we can say you are a fan.
I'm a fan of all three.
Leo, Dominic and Antonio.
Big fan.
Big fan.
And the director, Matt Johnson.
So there you go.
Yeah.
Highly recommends both those movies.
If you haven't seen them.
There's a chance I see Tony before La La Land.
You probably will.
I probably will.
And this is just a reminder.
I'm just reminding me now that everyone should watch Tuner, too, which is my favorite movie this year, because that's Leo Whittle.
So we all should hire you for PR.
Shout out to Leo Whittle.
Seriously.
Oh, yeah.
But yeah, that's that's it.
Amazing.
All right.
All right.
That is everything we watched.

So let's get into it.
All right, everyone.
We are here with a very special guest.
The one.
Only Chase Soaks.
I made it.
In studio.
Welcome to our studio.
It's so cute.
Thanks.
I love it.
And by the way, you're our last guest ever in this studio.
We're redoing it.
Yeah.
So it's kind of poetic.
No.
It's getting like a full, complete redo.
No, it's exciting.
It's exciting.
Yeah, I was going to say.
A good renovation is always fun.
We're looking forward to, I mean, it served its purpose.
It was so fun.
But now we're ready to kind of bring it up a little bit.
Like the walls are a little bright.
Yes.
You're like, we're growing up.
So our space needs to grow up with us.
Right.
We need the lighting to get like a little bit more dim.
We're getting a bit older.
We don't want it to be as HD as it is anymore.
You know, that sort of thing.
Yeah.
It could be HD.
Just like put a filter on it.
Yeah.
Let's just dim it down.
Yeah.
Exactly.
You know, the Kardashians film, they got a filter.
It's just that kind of stuff.
Same shit.
Different circumstances.
Well, we are so excited to have you in studio.
It's been a long time coming.
You know, we did Zoom in the past.
Yes.
We had that whole thing.
We joke around about it.
I will say.
By the way, this is my first podcast ever right now.
Listen, I just want you to know that you have so many people defending you on that.
Do I really?
Yes, you really do.
I'm so chronically not online, so it's really tough for me.
You really do have so many people defending you being like, well, it was the first in
person and you guys weren't in person and stop slandering him.
And I'm like, you know what?
Fair.
Like, you know what?
Come to his defense as you should.
Your fans should, you know?
Yeah.
You know, the Internet's a crazy place.
That it is.
I've come to realize that pretty quickly.
Yeah, that it is.
But we are, we're so excited because now we're recording this a little bit ahead of time.
But when this comes out, Outer Banks last season will be fully out released and I'm
sure everyone will have watched it by now.
It's been about a week.
So if you haven't watched it, I don't know what you're doing.
This is like, this has got to be a binge in a day situation.
I think we're doing all 10 immediate drop versus the like half and half.
Half and half.
So yeah, there's really no excuse.
Right.
You know, five seasons commit to the bed.
What?
Because you've got to kind of say it is such a big question of when are you allowed to
fully talk about a show when they release all the episodes at one time?
We get yelled at for spoilers and it's like, well, if you go past the first weekend.
Yeah.
I don't.
Is there a Netflix rep in here?
Yeah.
No, I really don't know the logic.
I think the streaming stuff has changed the dynamic versus like theatrical release.
Yep.
You know, they sort of let things.
Um, lay out a little bit longer, but for us, yeah, they're like, Oh, week later, it's old
news.
So like onto the next one, the next YA adventure.
So yeah, things move fast, but we obviously have followed your journey on the show.
We have loved the show for so many years and to see it wrap up so beautifully.
I think it wrapped up in a way that us fans really enjoyed.
What has it been like for you now?
You know, you've been doing a ton of press about the ending of the show, but now it's,
it's done, you know, it's, it's closing the book on it all because it's out there.
Everybody knows what happens.
Yeah.
You know, I think one of the things that I've loved about this show is it catches you off
guard and it makes you so mad so often.
And so to finish it on a note that is so satisfying is really gratifying for us too, you know,
cause we'll get scripts and we'll be like, how, how do we, not just me, like even Jonas
will look at it and he'll be like, how do I shoot this?
Like, I don't know.
I don't know if this is even possible or believable.
And so I think we've had this like really, um, unique way of kind of skirting around
like death and a number of times I found out this week that John V is apparently almost
died 27 times by the end of season four.
So that was, that was, that was math.
I was like, okay.
So I think with all of that, you know, to have the ending come all the way full circle
and a truly like give a happy ending, not like kind of bullshit it or leave it open
ended.
I think it's something a lot of shows don't want to do because we're so used to like, oh, maybe there's more or like, what if we do a spinoff or what if we do this?
And I think we because we all knew we were done, we were able to really put the period at the end of the sentence.
That's what's so satisfying about it, because no matter what, I think any of the past seasons, when you would get to that last episode, you would watch and think, is this is this wrapping up?
And then the last 10 minutes, you're like, well, obviously not.
Now there's like, you can't.
They couldn't end it here.
But with something like this, it ends and you're like, this is the end.
I'm satisfied with that.
You're like, you cannot go further than this.
This is where it all wraps up, which is I'm glad they gave that to you guys for the characters.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, it's been seven years.
Like we did the premiere the other day and I looked in my photos and I was like, wow, we rolled cameras May 1st, 2019.
And so seven years of this.
I was like, wow.
Yeah.
Like you spend so much time with something.
It's like anything else in life right now.
You're living with like a like a second personality for seven years.
It's diabolical.
Yeah.
So you have to get rid of it.
You have to put that to bed.
It's like having a roommate for seven years.
You're like, I love you.
I'm going to love you and leave you.
You know, it's time to move on.
Yeah.
So I was really thankful that we got to end it on our terms and do it kind of the right way because we were all getting a little loopy towards the end.
I want to know what.
What life was like for you before Outer Banks, because it kind of felt like the show took you guys by storm immediately.
It all happened in COVID.
So it was overnight.
Everyone's locked down.
Then you leave your houses and you're getting flood with the popularity that you didn't know existed beforehand.
What was life like for you leading up to that?
The auditions that you went on, like all the time you spent getting to this point.
I mean, going all the way back.
When I was.
I was in Florida and I was attempting to go to University of Central Florida and I had taken TV production in high school and I had done like my first acting job, which was a commercial for this.
It's this company called Amscot and it was like a money loan situation and it would always air on like Cartoon Network late night.
So it was like robot chicken.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Shit.
And then like I was a pizza boy.
The network we were afraid of when we were.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's like, don't let the TV be on at three o'clock.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Night terror.
It was life.
And so I decided I was like, okay, I really want to take this serious.
I don't know.
one in the industry and i found out about imdb pro i made a fake gmail account pretending to
be a manager i emailed every agent in the entire town and i was just like hey i've got this kid
from orlando florida he's a little bit green but like i think he's got a shot and uh one guy
actually responded and i said you need to get out to la the other side of it as i lied we got on the
phone and then i folded immediately i was like i'm a liar i'm full of shit it's me it's me i'm the
kid yeah i'm the manager and the kid you're a great actor he was like he sent me an audition
for my first audition ever like legitimate auditions was for the vampire diaries and um
i didn't know what a self-tape was so he's like here's a self-tape if it's remotely okay then
we'll keep talking and so i uh i borrowed some cameras from some friends and i literally shot
the scene two cameras went out into the woods shot it like an actual scene from a movie and
i'm like fuck this is
you
exhaust like you have to do this for every audition and so i sent it in and he was like
i don't know what this is like all you needed was a blank wall and just like nobody on camera with
you you like that coverage yeah and so you filmed a short film i did yeah i filmed the spoof of the
vampire diaries and um and then he was like you need to get out to la and get in classes like if
you're gonna put that much effort into it i'll give you a shot um and it was a grind like it was
five six years of
like working at bars um i lied and said i was a food photographer for a little bit and was taking
food photography um i just like everything under the sun to just make ends meet um and then i
started to kind of book some smaller jobs and i had this stupid ass idea i was like okay i'm a
working actor now like i'm not going back to a real job and i was dead broke on unemployment
eviction notice on my door um and then out of bank showed up so it was like this this choice of
saying i want to do this as a career i'm going to commit to it i don't have any like i was
thirty thousand dollars in credit card debt like it was it was not a smart choice don't recommend
it to anybody choosing this yeah i just saw recently you talked about how you did your taxes
wrong the first time oh that was yeah yeah i claimed um because i didn't have any money i was
like oh i need to get all of the money up front and so i thought if you claim nine on your taxes
that means like nine out of ten you know the most you can get uh it actually means nine children
there's nine dependents so i had the most taken away yeah so rudy and i were living together and
i got my check and i'm like dude i can't even afford rent like what how did how did people
live in this job and he's like what are you talking about and he saw my check and it was
like eleven hundred bucks for the first episode and he's like you did this wrong and i was like
drew what what are you talking about and he's like what are you talking about and i was like
you know about taxes and so drew was like you're an idiot yeah no that's the best figuring out
how to do your taxes figuring out how to file taxes for the first time is always a trip because
you're like and every year you still question if you're doing it right every year you're like look
i did it last year it all worked out i'm gonna do the exact same way this year but some this still
could be wrong somehow the last thing you want is to end up on the news like mike the situation
no of course you evaded your taxes and
you know you just try not to you just you just don't want to be there you were you were giving
away all your money for no reason i did the opposite yeah i was trying not to pull a situation
i was like i'm gonna give it all it's gonna be nothing here's everything i have the love of the
game they're like chase stokes is broke because he claimed nine children yeah what would it what
is it like now are you still doing self tapes or are you know i'm assuming a lot of offers coming
for you because they know how good you are from outer banks yeah i mean it's an interesting
kind of dichotomy like i still am auditioning for a ten-year-old and i'm still auditioning for a ten-year-old
but i'm getting offers for other things and typically like because i'm a little bit pigeonholed
because sean b is such a specific character a lot of people look at me and they're like oh
you're they almost get it confused with reality like it's this weird blurred line for us um
obviously drew is sort of in his own echelon now which is super cool to see um but yeah like i'm
still auditioning the job that i'm about to start um i had to go through the full audition process
with that like there was no hey we're just gonna offer you a job on a
you know another project um but i i kind of like that because i have such bad imposter syndrome
so for me anytime an offer comes through i'm sort of like do you are you sure like do you want me
to read it do you want do you want to see me do it so you know that what you're investing in is
actually what you want um so as much as it like a lot of people will look at the process and say oh
i don't want to do it i'm i'm cool with it yeah because it is interesting when you bring up the
point of being pigeonholed as john b who is a 16 year old
yeah
teenager when you're like a full-grown man and you have to fight against that and be like no no i'm
i'm an adult and i can do this yes which is awesome though so excited for you and your next
project and we'll talk about that a little later on i want to go back to you bringing up like
shooting in the woods for a self-tape and all that because i see now there's conversation about
self-tapes like i think for example when they talked about odessa for marty supreme like she
went into a phone booth and did all that yeah and then there's the people who just use a blank wall
where do you fall on that like do you think it is better to do something out of the box or do you
think you should be doing the you know standard in front of the wall you know it's interesting
yes and no it kind of depends on the situation i think there's been enough examples out now of
people really throwing some shit out there like odessa um then now i think people are really like
how do i make this different and how do i like show my edge and in it and initially i was like i
would always do something to kind of throw off the casting directors and my thought was like even if
it sucks they'll remember me so that should be a good thing and in hindsight probably not um like
i would start self-tape just like screaming into the camera and then just like walk to wherever my
mark was and i'd be like hi i'm chase i'm six foot one whatever um and so now i think it's sort
of shifting back like you kind of don't want to disrespect the work at the end of the day and you
don't want to do something that's too too personal because you don't have the job yet so if you don't
have the job there's a part of you that wants to add your own personal touch but there's still
people you need to you know get the approval from what was you mentioned acting classes in la what
what were those like for you what were the cast of characters in there i could imagine you get all
different walks of life in la acting classes it's such a trip like so many big personalities and
then so many i i really lucked out
because i got into a class of all working actors and i was like the token non-working
actor so i felt way out of my league um but it also sucked because people would go away and work
and then they would come back and i'd still be bartending and then they would go and do
another project and come back and i'd still be bartending so it was it was kind of a really
humbling experience because you're watching everybody go to work and i i spent like four
years just being like all right when was that gonna happen or like
i'd go do like i had one line in stranger things and i went did that and they're like how was it i
was like so good one day like in and out you're gone for four months yeah they keep you sitting
around sat all day long yeah just sitting in like a tiny little like a closet at that point
it's just like a little room with a baby couch literally like this big and you're like ready
when you are yeah i'm here yeah so it was humbling but like also just really good to be in that
and i'd like do give a huge testament to that being a building block so like if i had success
early like i've had my trials and tribulations publicly so like having any of that early
not would not have been great for me right right right yeah what's one of like the do you remember
any crazy practices or any crazy scenes you'd had to do an acting class maria has
she has an acting class story that she tells often because they make you do some things
i know i know which is why i'm curious if there's anything that's
stands out to you that you remember you're like what the fuck am i doing right now there
there was one it's like a mirror exercise and you stand with a partner and it was 30 minutes long
which is an obnoxious amount of time to stare into somebody's eyes you barely know yeah and
if they put their hand up then you put your hand up and match it and then if they start crying you
have to start crying and all 30 minutes of it and you go through every single range of emotions to
the point to where you are just raw wow at the end and then like okay let's talk about our scenes
and i'm like i'm done yeah i need to go
home and nap yeah you're exhausted by that yeah i had an acting teacher who this isn't the story
france talking about but um that she would make us say the alphabet but in our head we were telling
like an emotional story and by the end she would want you to be crying like by the time you got to
the end of the alphabet and so z needed to be z needed to be you needed to be absolutely shredded
and there were people who nailed it because they had uh dealt with a lot at a young age
and i was 12 at the time right so they had dealt with a lot at a young age and i actually learned
a lot in those classes from people um so they were able to get there but at that age i really hadn't
you know been through much and i'm sorry i can't get yeah i was like i really am trying and i feel
like d and i would try so hard and at one point yeah yeah like i and at one point my acting teacher
looked at me and she was like pretend like your dad just died and i was like oh what super super
genuinely like i know i was like oh my god like and i mean she gets you there she gets you there
but i'm 12 years old yeah you're like i don't have childhood trauma i have acting coach trauma
yeah i think i do you're like
yeah full tears no it really is crazy but you know you've been in the outer banks
the bubble like you said seven years now when you would wrap a season what's the first thing
you're doing when you're getting home uh the last season three to season five i would pull
a britney and i would shave my head yeah like on set last day like i have like this job this
is gone you just like it's such a especially being in charleston and i bought a house in
charleston like it was so obvious that it was me and so going out in public became
like a real task whether it's the grocery store whether it's getting gas and so that was my way
of shedding the skin and feeling like i was really removed from it and it worked it would work for
like three weeks to where nobody would know who i was by the time they put two and two together
they're like oh he's
bald now like what the fuck's wrong and then i'm gone like so it was kind of like a nice buffer
um and truly like i i have this weird thing where like i'll take any and everything that i have
that had to do with the season and i throw it away and i learned that in acting class like
when you're done with an audition like take the sides throw them away like be done with it let it
let it go um but this season was different like it was we all really knew that it was the end of
the road like even last night we went out to dinner it was me drew and jd and
um i had to get back because i have a full day of press they do not they're uh on a plane going home
and um drew gave me a hug and he goes congratulations and i was like what he goes
we did it yeah and i was like what do you what do you shut up what are you talking about and he was
like that was our last interview today forever and i was like oh and we just sat there and the
three of us just like had a moment yeah kind of cried because we were like you're so used to
doing press with each other it's just like tweedledee and tweedledum yeah and i think
like it can get you kind of get used to it and fully you maybe take it for granted at times like
oh well it's just drew and jd again but then when you have that moment you're like wait a second
this might be the last time that we all work together yeah i mean like as i was leaving i
looked at them and i was like i'll see you later and then i was like in my yeah yeah in my chest i
was like i actually i don't know when i'm gonna see you guys next like we've always had this built
in friendship so to speak and um granted we've always had this built-in friendship so to speak
we've always found each other in in every way and jd's family and my family are close friends now so
it's like really intertwined but it was the first time to where there was no next right like set
date yeah or like going back to work or whatever it is so to your point like yeah i think there's
there's inevitably when you get so lucky to have something that goes so long
i i've asked so many people who have done it before me like the riverdale cast and the
vampire diaries cast and you know josh jackson like i've had a really good opportunity to connect
with all of those different worlds and they're like how can you not like how can you not feel
exhausted with it or done with it but as it's finished you just have nothing but gratitude
like truly it's a training ground it's you know years and years of time on camera which is
invaluable as an artist early in your career so now i think it's it's you know you go from like
oh i'm missing out on jobs or oh you know i don't have the free time or i can't have a normal life
to now it's like oh i'm really thankful i had this opportunity to do this and i'm really thankful
opportunity do you watch yourself back like have you watched this show god no i i some people cannot
watch themselves back like i i have in times past you know like there's a part of me that would want
to see the performances and whatnot and then you start to understand the process so in depth that
the performance that you thought is probably not going to be the one that's on camera and when you
kind of know the universe you're in you kind of just have to like chalk it up and let go and let
god and so at a certain
point too we have i have so much adr and i do so much voiceover work for the show so i kind of get
to see it before anyone else gets to see it because i'm in the studio so much doing all the voiceover
work from top bottom and a lot of it if it doesn't even if it's not in the show like we still do it
to have it um so i get to kind of see it before we get the screeners or before it's out to the world
as well you're like i don't need to go yeah i'm like i don't need to double down i'm not a big ego
even in its first season first season we all watched it together second season we watched uh
a decent chunk of olive's dreaming i literally was like is that is olive's
don't worry olive's dreaming um that is so crazy to think about when it first started for everybody
and i feel like looking back on that time especially like it is so long ago like seven years
all of everyone
was
the same thing and so i'm like i'm not going to do that anymore i'm not going to do that and so
i'm like i'm not going to do that and so i'm like i'm not going to do that and so i'm like i'm not
going to do that and so i'm like i'm not going to do that and so i'm like i'm not going to do that

on the 2026 silverado at chevy.com all right now back to the show i was like on social media for
i feel like going crazy for the first time you guys were always posting behind the scene
and for us we were like you know so attached yeah yeah we literally very very attached i mean we
have while we're here yeah show me the goods yep there you go the original d-o-g that's the first
there it is i would die for zombie
the saying that lasted a lifetime it literally did and we sold so much merch
i was like i hope you guys are making money because we are not i tried it i did try to do
merch one time and uh and i think it was because of you guys i was like oh i should also capitalize
on the show and i got shut down so fast yeah yeah listen here's the thing like you bring it up now
and we're like oh and it's not on sale anymore yeah you're like we didn't make that much money
actually i think i think we donated most of it yeah it was not a big thing at all no no it's not
like our boss literally thanked us no yeah for saving the company in covid yeah yeah yeah you're
like yeah you're welcome yeah yeah so we can put that up was we'll have you sign it if you will
i mean really here's the thing now it's like we have been joking when we were putting the the
trying to change things in the studio and moving things around and then we're like actually you
know what that is gonna make a difference and we're like oh my god we're gonna make a difference
that is gonna make it when we redo everything yeah it's gonna have to be redone it is crazy
because i had screenshots as well dating back and now it's gonna be 2027 and just made me feel weird
looking back i know where it's like scary it was 20 april 2020 and we had put those shirts on sale
and i screenshotted like a tweet from you and then you put it on your story and you were like mama i
made it like barstool merch and i'm like imagine thinking like now look at your life and you're
like at that time you were like oh my god i'm gonna make it to the new that is gonna make it
like wow some barstool sports yeah barstool yeah they made it i've peaked yeah yeah where do i go
from here i'm done i don't need any more that is it was it was a trippy time i mean like you know
part of it was the lockdown and a lot of whiskey uh that like got us to do the lives and whatnot
but i think we were just we when we did the first junket you know you go through the gauntlet and
you do all the all of these interviews we didn't actually get involved
with most like most of that so it was 13 reasons why and all of these like
monster shows that netflix had at the time and then we got invited yeah and so we're all kind
of sitting in the corner and they're like okay so you have this this this and this and we're like
but they've done like 65 interviews today like are we gonna do you know 60 50 and they're like
no no right and so that all came as a part of like oh we're just so excited we had this
six summer camp opportunity and now we're just gonna use the internet as our outlet because we
didn't feel like we got the the push from right it was such a funky time too because it was sort
of like even when shows shows that had been filmed years prior if they came out during that time
right sometimes they got lost in the mix or people did like them and they did have a following but
because of the pandemic you couldn't get the cast all back together right for another season and
then shows ended and you were like it's that could have been a thing too you just never know it's
lightning in a bottle but same kind of thing where we watch shows we're like oh my god it was so good
the pandemic happened they were like everyone's unlocked and then when that's over everyone's
doing different things and they couldn't bring the cast back together i think our upm kind of
wrote the handbook for how to shoot during the pandemic yeah and i remember seeing people be
like you know ours are like other netflix shows they were like posting on social media they're
like we're working so hard to make this you know pandemic schedule and blah blah and our upm was
like that's my fucking schedule i wrote that shit for netflix and we're getting swabs down our nose
so it was like a
it we kind of didn't know even going into season two we're like okay this shit worked like this
is cool yeah but did it like did it actually work or is it just like a byproduct of everybody being
at home what was it like then getting to basically travel to some of these other countries and other
filming locations like you guys had your base yeah but then it was like okay well now we're
sending you all around the world basically yeah um the first place we went was uh barbados yeah
and i mean like it's just where the show started and where it ended you could
I would have never anticipated that and it's one of the
cooler parts about the job is like you know you're going to be in charleston mind you one of the most
incredible places on the planet yes we love charleston it's the best like the food the people
the beaches like it's such a hidden gem and then they're like we're gonna go to morocco we're gonna
go to croatia we're gonna go to barbados and um and it's just so cool to travel for work like i
remember watching interviews of actors and they're like yeah we filmed this in budapest i'm like
what like that's for your job like that's crazy and so to get to travel to these places granted
it's not like you know shooting in morocco was tough like it was so tough we were out in the
middle of the desert and sandstorms and waking up at three o'clock in the morning like this show is
a grind like everyone behind the camera has said this is the most difficult tv show they've ever
worked on physically like it is the most demanding show um so it's fun to watch it come to life but
after like seven years it's like oh my god i'm gonna go to morocco and i'm gonna go to barbados
seven months of shooting it you're like god i really hope this season works because i'm exhausted
yeah but it's it's cool it's it's fun to go to places you never thought you would go did you
have a favorite place um i loved barbados like the people the culture um you know we the first time
we went was during the pandemic so we we had to quarantine for 12 days in a hotel room i almost
actually got us kicked off the island uh whoops yeah i they had an all-you-can-drink package for
and uh it was like day six and um they had made the free john b shirts i can't remember who did it
but i had one in my room and i made a giant pyramid of like 30 beers and i threw the free
john b shirt over the the balcony and the bayesian government was flying drones to make sure everybody
was staying in quarantine at night and i was sitting on the edge of my balcony dangling and
i was like there beyond the point of no return i guess that's the best way to put it um and we got
a letter from the bayesian government saying hey if you don't get certain people in check
and they sent a screenshot of me oh my god from the drone yes hanging on the balcony do you have
it i have a i'll show you you don't have to show us here but i just want to know if you have it
in possession it's me with like kind of like a childish version of a beard a bucket hat and like
a line of beers on my balcony and just the shirt that says free john b it's kind of frameable it's
not it's pretty incredible but the best part was like our production sent out an email and then in
our like group chat of all the producers directors and camera guys uh our dp had sent it back and he
had whited out deer production and just said deer chase because everybody knew it was me
so i was a menace that trip but it was just it was an awesome place listen when you're
in a hotel room for 12 days unlimited alcohol you can't do anything else yeah what's a person to do
i'm like netflix and beer yeah that's it that's all you can do that's really all you can do it
really is true i mean the show took so long to do i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm
so many twists and turns i know you guys talked about it so much with with season four and how
that that all ended yeah what were your initial thoughts of losing jj they sat us all down and
they said this is what's going on um and this is where this episode is this season and this
episode are gonna end and we were like oh shit okay and i guess like to their credit like it
had been something that they had planned um i think they were worried about our reaction because we do
like we talked through it and then we're like this is what we don't like this is what we do like can
we change this can we change that and to our writers credit as much as we're probably a pain
in the ass for it like they do work with us with that um not just with dialogue but like plot points
too so um i think that was their time where they were like all right we're we're holding strong on
this one so it was it was bizarre and then you're like so far away and you're trying to like go
through all of the the versions of like how we got here um and then you're like oh my god i'm
gonna do this and we're just kind of all we're like all right here we go yeah to be fair you know
jj is such a beloved character i mean we love jj yeah a show like outer banks unfortunately
needed someone yeah because that is what really and like you said before john you almost said 27
times like when you watch a show somebody somebody has to unfortunately because you all have escaped
so many times on this show and they're
has to be times that you gotta be really or and also are really bought in yeah right because we
saw it happen with jj so in the final season i think there are multiple times where you are
completely bought in to i think key the most for sure where i was like oh are they about to kill
key off as well and i was like no this can't be happening but you buy in because you know that
they did it with jj so yeah i do think it's something that unfortunately had to happen um
and especially i mean when you get the script for for season five and you see how many times
i think is it key the most in this final season yeah yeah like we we really wanted it to be her
vendetta on revenge and i feel like this this season you see that the most um and you see her
escape death multiple times but you're just like how does this happen when a villain dies it's one
thing yeah but when you have the main cast that makes decisions that puts
themselves in harm's way and escapes death so closely so often you sort of take away and that
was my fear with with jj's death is and i've i've you know we've felt the backlash a little bit of
it is like if you escape death so many times then does the value of when death actually happens
stick right and so now i think obviously everybody knows that he's really actually
dead with the season out but like it i think as the trailer came out and as we were kind
of impressed i think there was enough people being like oh maybe he will come back maybe
and yes that that's kind of a bummer you know like it didn't hold whereas like game of thrones i think
is a great example not the ending but like the the way that they really allowed main characters to
die made you really realize like oh shit nobody's safe right and then when they did bring somebody
back you were not expecting it at all because they really did kill people yes exactly yeah i
get what you're saying that is there are certain shows that when people would die be like they're
not dead right yes exactly i
didn't see that when the trailer came out um so many people thought oh no it's it's not possibly
but it's like no this really happened but when they when people see and now at this point when
this comes out they will have seen that no yeah yeah my real my favorite when the trailer came
out was like there's no way this is going to be supernatural like this bullshit if they bring jj
back and like as we were filming it i was like okay my only like big qualm is like please like
let's not lean too far into like the right could this actually work right um and then when you know
it all came together and i was watching it in adr i was like oh actually you know what like it it's
pretty obvious the pogues are not like fully convinced that this can work and key is a little
delulu thinking she can bring it back um but uh like watching people have that same reaction of
like no like no absolutely not you're gonna watch and see so um yeah it's kind of funny yeah
you mentioned um you know having those moments with the guys like finishing press
and you guys normally all do stuff together was it a little weird
not having rudy with you guys for this last round yeah i mean like rudy's such a character yeah and
he's he's such a you know an energy not just in the press run but actually on set um so it's kind
it is it was like the ghost of him yeah it was around um and you know jd and i actually had a
really heart-to-heart conversation before the season started and uh you know because he is
the comedic relief and so that's a part of that show that is so immensely important like you can't
let it just hang and let john b just be going 90 miles an hour the whole time so we're like all
right we got to figure out where we can like layer in the comedy and so um we really really
made a point like even in the sequence when um john b and pope break into topper's house and
it's like they're going through his dad's like safe and stealing the money and like making it
rain and all that shit like it was just super important to make sure that like there was the
shirt for like two episodes straight and that was just like our way of saying like the character
will never die and it's also like a little bit of you know paying tribute to rudy and like his
efforts because like those are choices that he made yeah not just as jj like that was him the
costume department being like what if jj had like a you know air spray painted like t-shirt that
said pookie on it um and that's like a testament to his level of comedy and his love for the
character so i think you guys did a great job in this season showing that um i love this season i
thought it was fantastic
especially the way it wraps up and he even lives on sarah and john b get married happily ever after
baby named jj
hey guys we're gonna take a quick break and we will be right back on game day get sub stacked
high at jersey mike's like the number 13 original italian loaded with meats cheese and toppings or
the number 56 big kahuna cheese steak with grilled steak peppers onions and mushrooms
topped with jalapenos and melty cheese
get your sub fix on game day and order in store or the jersey mike's app all right now back to the
show yep yeah that moment when when i had to say like bring it on home thing mind you like i have
a bone to pick with the internet with all of that shit and like the fact that like that became a
whole like tagline for season four and it was the last thing that i say in the show i was like
and then we had an after party and the kid who drunkenly
made that tiktok was at the after party and i'm like this is like
all right it's gone so far off yeah yeah so like saying it they're like trolling you're like this
is like couldn't be oh we've gone meta meta meta yeah it was like quadruple meta yeah so many
different layers at the point you know at the after party to where like i had had all the lovely
conversations and had enough tequila soda to probably take out a horse and this kid pops up
and he's like can we do it and i saw the i saw the tiktok and it's like got enough use to make
you want to vomit at this point i am out of this world like i'm not there not even saying the words
this past weekend i did i didn't see it okay i did see that i am just incoherent
and i'm pretty sure he wrote like he was so drunk yeah i was just like they we were leaving and i
was trying to get out and he was just like can i do this i was a guy and i was like
you
know yeah yeah and it's incredibly hard it's hard to say no to the guy i know also like how did they
track him down again they're so good at doing that and making like everyone having their moment
because the fandom like i think especially with the outer banks fandom they love to be acknowledged
you know so it's like yeah you're not i begged for years and this year i hosted the podcast i
will say like when when you when we did that first my first official podcast yeah i'm making
sure you're not going to be a part of it i'm going to be a part of it i'm going to be a part of it
directly to camera um like when that happened we were like we should find a we should find a spot
for her and there was one role that was like john b's ex-girlfriend and it was like the party yeah
and i think the consensus was like are they going to get this is like the weird world of like behind
the scenes we're like are the is the audience going to get confused that she looks too similar
to sarah and we were like i don't i think they're pretty intelligent you know they can tell the
difference
and uh and that was like i would have dyed my hair any color i would have gone orange
i feel like i would have done anything i would have chopped his blue hair yes
john b's ex with electric blue hair yeah she's a big emo girl just listens to panic at the disco
yeah no but the fans were really such a big no it's exactly and and so dedicated and so that
fan event was awesome you guys looked like you had a good time it was super cool yeah i mean like
totally unexpected um and that's just a testament to like
again like netflix knowing the audience knowing the world and knowing that the send-off is so much
bigger than just doing a premiere where it's not integrated with the fan base because the show
truly would not be shit if we didn't have the internet and what tiktok did and what the global
audience has done for us yeah and like when i do do a little sleuthing from here and there because
i'm human and we all sleuth um like you see some stuff sometimes and you're like wow okay like
this is a huge audience yeah it's
like going to brazil and promoting the show it's so it's it's incredibly international it is yeah
like really really international i shot a movie in bulgaria and i had to like travel with security
because it was not safe and that that's been such a trip for me because like you sit in the comfort
of your home sometimes you're like whatever i'm gonna go to walmart yeah and then you can't yeah
like it's just shifted yeah you know the occasional sleuth here or there but i feel like you guys have
all had to adjust to that
merging into that level of fame and now being on social media and all those things and it's been an
up and down journey for you so now how do you feel like your relationship is with sort of sharing
your life it's i mean it's definitely shifted i think you know in the beginning there's like this
super interest and being like oh wow people are invested in and intrigued to know who i am um but
in the same respect like i'm okay with sharing it yeah and then your life changes and you grow up
and then things happen and people get way too excited about it and then you're like oh my god
i'm too invested or like have their own opinions on things and you realize that you as an individual
deserve privacy whether you're a public facing figure or not and what you choose to share what
you don't choose to share like that's that's up to me and so if people get pissed off about what
i am or am not sharing or what how much i'm promoting versus how much i'm not promoting or
using my social media platform for abcd and e versus promoting outer banks all the time like
that's my like it's my platform it's not netflix's it's my like the show gave me the platform and i'm
grateful for it but it's my personal platform we have the outer banks page it's high chasetokes
exactly that guy's still the actual chasetokes he's still trying to sell me his account i tried
to buy it season one tried to charge me like seven grand and i was like no and he's like
what about now yeah you're like no no no no no the price gone up i just i think i blocked him
yeah yeah yeah that is your instagram name and also absolutely you know like you said
sharing on social media thank you for dealing with the crazy people like us who are commenting
on everything and get so involved in the show and everyone's lives and you're absolutely correct in
that it really is up to you on what you share or don't share well i told you when we talked after
the podcast like i part of being on this journey for the last seven years and being forward facing
in the ways that i have like i've fully like tripped and fallen on my face and subject myself
to like criticism and i'm not like i can't sit there and be like oh like pick me choose me and
um to not be like yeah that was kind of stupid like we all do it yeah but like i get it it's also
it's your jobs like your job is to make sure that like what is happening in the world is being
responsibly reported on so like if i post some dumb shit or like if i do something that gets me
in trouble in the media like you guys have been a part of my journey so i'm a part of your journey
so it all co-exists so like i told you like i get it yeah it's part of it and listen you're not the
first person you're not the last person we do it even as a podcast so we say stupid shit we do it
we do and we appreciate you coming in here and talking to us we're so happy that this
we were able to make this happen and finally have you in studio and everyone obviously if you
haven't streamed outer banks last season go do it of course on netflix if you listen to this whole
thing sorry we spoiled it for you but it's like and i was absolutely raving about you after we
did the netflix podcast i genuinely couldn't have had better things to say about you i was
so happy and thrilled and um stream the whole podcast yeah stream it
but i really uh you left a mark with me with some of the stories that you told so if people
haven't listened go listen to that because i think people will hear some things that they should
amazing which i thought was very nice yeah thank you so much jace yes thank you so much and i'm
excited to see the new the new studio yeah we'll have you back when it's all reached out and the
only thing on the wall will be that i would die it's just like a seat and it's just above yeah
yeah we're gonna really blow this thing up yep yep thank you so much yes thank you guys appreciate
