CHAMPIONS DAY PREVIEW 2026

This episode of the punting podcast is recorded during Melbourne Cup week, shifting from Oaks Day toward Champions Day at Flemington and Rosehill. The hosts open with light banter, including one host's reluctance to attend a Saturday wedding that clashes with the racing, and his plan to stream races on his phone during the reception. They then review the Melbourne Cup, discussing Point of Law's victory, Hopeful Rock's traffic-interrupted run, and Ben Allen's whip fine. The conversation touches on gambling's place in Australian culture, with the hosts defending the tradition while urging anyone for whom betting is no longer fun to seek help. The bulk of the show previews three Group 1 races at Flemington. Tempted is a confident tip in the Champions Sprint at $1.95, with Skybird flagged as value if rain arrives. Autumn Glow is expected to win the Champions Mile easily, with Within the Law a rough place hope. In the Champion Stakes, Aliana is tipped to reverse Cox Plate form with Cosmic Crusader thanks to a better draw and likely slower tempo. The hosts build a multi of Tempted, Autumn Glow, and Lazura at about $3.13, and close with best bets: Zach Lloyd in the Jockeys Challenge, Horseshoe Hill, and Show Business.

Speaker 1Hello, punters. Welcome to the show. We are moving through Cup Week. It's Wednesday. No, it's not. It's Thursday. It's Thursday. It's Oaks Day. It's Oaks Day, but we're doing the podcast for Champions Day. How are you going, BJ?
Speaker 2Good. Thank you, Woodhead. I've actually got a wedding on Saturday. This is that wedding. Oh, yeah. I hope
Speaker 1they don't listen because you are not
Speaker 2happy about going to a wedding. No, no. I'm not happy about it.
Speaker 1It's going to get worse for you, though. But once they get into school, there's kids' parties.
Speaker 2I don't go to them. That's just a rule.
Speaker 1But what if Aria is not allowed to go and Sonny can't go? Some of them, they don't let other kids go.
Speaker 3It is what it is. They should have them on Sundays. Yeah, I agree. Saturdays for the boys, not for the kids' parties.
Speaker 1It's for the boys, not the kids and the families. For the pun. So where's this wedding?
Speaker 3I couldn't tell you. I could not. So you don't know these people?
Speaker 2Couldn't tell you.
Speaker 3I don't know them very well, no. They're my wife's friends.
Speaker 1You're doing very well because when we first spoke about this, you were angry.
Speaker 3I'll just be on my phone for most of the wedding. Yeah, good. I reckon I'll have a quite enjoyable day.
Speaker 1Yeah, because you won't be – like you're going to have a few drinks. As long as like – Love is love. You love love. Watch the races.
Speaker 3As long as they're not saying I do when one of my tips is going wrong. Because that will pay me. Well, then you just miss – But like at the reception, it'll be all right. Like I'll just be sitting down.
Speaker 1What about – it's not like a – Watching races. It's not like a fucking – like on property or something and there's going to be no reception. That'd be bad. Where is it?
Speaker 3Hopefully not. I've got no idea. I couldn't tell you. No, hopefully – if there's no reception, I'll be – Leaving. Yeah, upset. They did put –
Speaker 1I'll see a charge on the card for Starlink.
Speaker 3Yeah, that's right. They put special requirements and I put Sky One. So hopefully they've fulfilled that requirement. Steak or chicken, Sky One. It's – yeah, don't have – Right. Don't have a wedding over the Flemington Carnival.
Speaker 1Our wedding was on Everest Day.
Speaker 3Yeah, but it was the first Everest. Yeah, we had the date before – You didn't know what it was.
Speaker 1Yeah, we had the date before –
Speaker 3We got married on a Friday because Saturday – Saturday was off limits and it was cheap. Oh, you're saving some cash.
Speaker 1Oh, yeah, because we don't want to miss Saturday.
Speaker 3Saturday is just – it's not the day to get married anyway. I know. Saturday is for watching the races, having a few beers. There's nothing better. There's nothing better than going to the pub and watching the races.
Speaker 1Tuesday was fun for us, having a few beers. Tuesday was fun.
Speaker 3We got a little platter out of sushi. Would have been nice if I backed the winner, but next year.
Speaker 1Did you not have a cent on it?
Speaker 3No. I didn't back him. I did – I should have backed him. I should have backed him because – You're talking about – When we did the Caulfield Cup podcast – Yeah. I did talk about him being a likely potential Melbourne Cup chance because he was going to miss that Caulfield Cup. Yeah. But I didn't have a cracker on him. He won that Geelong Cup and then the rest was history. I had him equal top pick. It was just the price difference. He was short when we did the podcast. Hopeful Rock was $11. I don't think – I think if Zach had his time over again, he'd potentially ride him different. It wasn't his fault, really. Yeah. He just got back. He was in behind horses. The leader. They went really slow, you know.
Speaker 1You wouldn't know.
Speaker 3I haven't done the sectionals.
Speaker 1But they reckon Point of Law's last 200 was the fastest of the day. Of the meeting, yeah. Yeah. So they went –
Speaker 3they must have went really slow.
Speaker 1Really – yeah. It's crazy. Yeah. So what – and then what's happened? What's happened with Ben Allen? Like, explain that to me. Like, so he's been –
Speaker 2He got fined for overuse of the whip. Was that it? Yeah. Oh, I thought it was something else. Oh, you rode him great. Yeah. Royal Supremacy.
Speaker 3Yeah. Gave him every chance. Like, quickened, stacked him up, quickened, stacked him up. And that – like, Zach at the back of the field on Hopeful Rock, he just – like, that horse just kept getting onto heels. He was in traffic, in traffic. Never – like, he wouldn't have beat the winner, but he should have definitely finished closer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's a good horse.
Speaker 1I wish I had a bigger bet on him, just because I had that last bet I was going to have in the morning, and I just – it was between him and one other, and I just – I went with the other. You went the juicier odds.
Speaker 3I was a greedy pig. You got greedy. I was a greedy pig. We are going to – we're going to do – we're going to do, like, our futures.
Speaker 1You already want to have a bet in the 2027 Melbourne Cup. 2027 Melbourne Cup. We'll be there. We'll be there. Imagine that. Imagine if we got just a big – Fat book of bets, and we're there.
Speaker 3That'll be the plan. That'll be the plan.
Speaker 1Just, like, two – you know, two or 3,000 outlayed, and our, like, worst – worst results, like, 15,000. Yeah.
Speaker 3That'd be nice. I'm just looking at the market now. Point of Law's favourite, $9.
Speaker 1Where's Billy Cart?
Speaker 3Billy Cart's there. Yeah, so he sure owns that horse.
Speaker 1He was, like, $51. One of our good mates from Double Days.
Speaker 3Or something like that. I didn't know that.
Speaker 1No, I only saw it because I saw it on socials that, like, they had – he's sure, and I'm pretty sure it was Alan Didak, who's another Collingwood grain friend of yours. She is $51. How good would that be?
Speaker 3Aliana's in the market, but she – don't be backing Aliana, because she didn't go there this year with 58 kilos. Next year, she might get 59 kilos if she wins another couple of group ones, especially if she wins champion stakes on Saturday.
Speaker 1Yeah. Yeah. I thought it was a really good race, the Melbourne Cup. I thought it was an enjoyable race to watch. Sometimes I feel like there's a bit too much going on, and I don't know where my horses are. This is just the most muggiest take, but it's like, I really enjoy – I knew what was coming out. I knew Point of Law ducking in and bursting through, and like you said, you don't know if he's going fast or they're just going super slow, but yeah, I thought it was a thoroughly – for someone that lost on the race. I thought it was a really good edition of the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 3I didn't enjoy it. I enjoyed the Cox Plate. I didn't win on that race.
Speaker 1I didn't enjoy the Cox Plate, because I was there, and I wanted to roll over.
Speaker 3Fast races. Like, it looked to the eye – I wasn't looking at sectionals or anything like that, but it looked like Royal Supremacy was going hard enough. Yeah, Jetty. But the rest of them just weren't keeping in tow.
Speaker 1I thought we were going to see like a Prada Jenny style stealing of the Melbourne Cup. No, we didn't. No, we didn't. Where did he fade to? Was that in like seventh or anything?
Speaker 3No, he ran fifth, I think.
Speaker 1It was fifth? I thought he came behind So You Are. No, fifth. Fuck, that's good.
Speaker 3Because he only just got edged out. Kieran Martin nearly trained the first four.
Speaker 1Oh, yeah. Good ride. What a payday for Kieran Martin. I saw Kieran Martin and Robbie Williams talking. Yeah, weird crossovers in racing, isn't there? One bloke, you know, getting up at 3 a.m. and wearing boots and walking through mud and, you know, all shit and suddenly Robbie Williams is his fan and asking him questions and.
Speaker 3Robbie. Robbie in his little midriff.
Speaker 1I didn't. Was he midrifting, was he?
Speaker 3I think so. I think he was midrifting. I don't know. There's a lot going on.
Speaker 1The Melbourne Cup day looked great, I've got to say.
Speaker 3Yeah, I want to go to a Melbourne Cup. I've never been to a Melbourne Cup, so.
Speaker 1It was, everyone was there. So if you're listening. Racking down. Anyone that wants to like give us. Tickets into the birdcage. 97,000 they got. Yeah. You know what? Huge. Can I just say this? I don't know whether we'll clip it up or not because we'll get all the fucking maggots in the comment, but the people that are making, are getting views and virality out of like, not, not nup to the cup, but like $368 million Australians bet yesterday on Melbourne Cup, like that's more than this, that's more than that. People bagging, gambling. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I think that's a good thing. I think that's a good thing. A lot of them are doing it for views and the ones that are sitting there going, I turned down. This is the one, if you listen to this and you'll see these reels, you got to watch out for this one. I turned down $10,000 a month to not promote this gambling company and they always show the DM. Just so you guys know, that DM is from an illegal crypto casino, like gambling house. Like you said, no, for moral. moral grounds, but also it's illegal. True. So, you know, well done to you and if that's the way you want to go, but, you know, let's talk facts here.
Speaker 3Yeah. No schools show it anymore. It's super annoying.
Speaker 1Super annoying. Jeannie went to kindy with a sweep, a leg up sweep.
Speaker 3Yeah. Wait until I get into politics later in life. It's got to be you out of me.
Speaker 1I've got too many skeletons in the closet.
Speaker 3I'll bring it back. But, yeah, the cup, it's like we've been betting on horse racing for 100 plus years. Yeah. As in humans. Humans. Yeah. Australians.
Speaker 2Yeah, Australians. But, like, back in England, like.
Speaker 3We've been betting on it for a long time.
Speaker 4Roman days. A lot of people can just, it's fun.
Speaker 3You can have fun. It's fun. It doesn't have to be, like, obviously people can be addicted and it can be a problem for some people. Yeah. But a lot of things. can be a problem. Absolutely. I feel like one. Cigarettes are bad for everyone. I was a great smoker. Addicted to KFC.
Speaker 1I know someone who's addicted to KFC.
Speaker 3Is not bad for everyone. KFC, I don't want to ban KFC. No, but you can be addicted to it. I wouldn't want to eat it every day for every meal. Yeah. And I haven't ate it for a long time.
Speaker 1Listen, if you're listening to this and gambling is no longer fun or it's causing your financial harm, fuck it off.
Speaker 4Yeah, give that 1-800 number a call.
Speaker 1Give it a call and make sure you're looking after yourself because it is meant to be fun. And if you're finding that it's not fun or it's bordering or not fun, have $5 bets. Like make it so you're enjoying it. It doesn't have to be like don't be in this to be like it's not an investment. No. It's like horse ownership. Someone was talking to me yesterday about horse ownership. She wants to get into breeding. She's like, I see these owners and they make so much money. I'm like, no, they don't.
Speaker 2Most of them.
Speaker 1No. No, they don't. We've had horses that one got swapped for a car. We bought one Magic Moons. It had a slip and died in the paddock and we lost all our dough there. Like you don't enjoy it for what it is is what I'm trying to say. It's a great game. It is. It is. A Melbourne Cup is one of the best days. This whole week is fucking good. And we've got to say welcome to our new – if you're listening to this and you're a new member and somehow you found the podcast and become a member or you become a member and you found the podcast, you guys, welcome. We've hit record numbers. Record numbers. We've hit record results this year on the hunt for 300 units of profit. We're, you know, if you're – we're at 254 units so far for the year. That's over 10 grand if you're a $40 per unit punter. So, yeah, we're enjoying it. We're enjoying it right now. And I'm keen to get this potty done and get back and start watching Oaks Day and have a few little bets. With the Oaks Day preview you've done, I'm keen to get into Champions Day this weekend. Now, there's no rain – well, there's a little bit of rain forecasted, but I don't think we're going to be on a – like a soft track. What did you do?
Speaker 3Did you use the Swedish –
Speaker 1I didn't use – I keep forgetting it.
Speaker 3Okay. Well, there's a bit of rain forecast on race day at Rose Hill, 4.7 mils. That's nothing. But it doesn't start until 3 o'clock. And that's gone down from yesterday. So, they were on a soft seven yesterday. So, they'll get back. There's no rain over the next two days. So, they're going to get back to probably a good four by Saturday. And that rain's probably not going to –
Speaker 1Does the track get chopped up for having like 40 races over a week? Yeah. And what – is it just the rail movement that kind of – like you can't move it that much. That's going to make that much of a difference.
Speaker 3Well, the jockeys will just navigate to the best part of the track.
Speaker 1That's why – Do they go and like fill in Pot Hill? Pot holes and stuff?
Speaker 3I don't know. I'm not a track manager. Aren't you? No. But I don't think so. I don't think they – like they would just – they don't fill them in, I don't think. Because that would like – Potentially be worse. It would be a different integrity in the soil. I think they just – like if there is a divot, they just put it back in. They find the clump like golf.
Speaker 1Yeah. You go and repair the divot.
Speaker 3Yeah, repair the divot. Yeah, that's right. I don't know. I don't know. But – I don't think – like they don't – they're not – Yeah, honestly, it's
Speaker 1just a thought that came to my head as I was driving here. And I'm like, yeah, by Champions Day, it would have had the guts of 30 races over five days.
Speaker 3Remember last year that like – it rained a lot on the last day. But they were getting to the outside fence. Right. Like – Just to avoid – you think – Early days in the carnival, they – like the straight races are inclined to stay – stay closer to the fence. But then by later in the carnival, they go out and they find the best ground.
Speaker 1Thank you. You're not a track manager.
Speaker 3No. Okay. Flemington, there's a bit of rain. Only a little bit. So, yeah, there's 1.5 mils. And then on Saturday – It's a snake. Saturday, there's rain. There's rain. I mean, I've got like – before – like before lunchtime – there's about 9.5 mils that I've got. How much? 9.5.
Speaker 1Oh, that's a bit.
Speaker 3It's a bit. But – It'll be fine. We'll see how it plays out. We'll drain into those potholes.
Speaker 1We got three group ones there on Saturday. Might be as bad as last year. I don't remember. It was a pissing down, was it?
Speaker 4Yeah. I remember Chow Wolf – Chow Wolf won. He beat like – oh, one of Bjorn's. Was it – Was it like Pericles or something like that?
Speaker 2No idea. Yeah.
Speaker 3Well, you go on.
Speaker 2I'll find out.
Speaker 1No, we'll just – let's just get into these races. We might be able to build a very safe little multi here out of these three group ones. And we're going to start with race six, which is the champion sprint, which is group one. Down that Flemington straight 1,200 metres. Our Everest winner returns to the track. Surprises attempted first. Look at Flemington. Looking to make it seven in a row. Jolie Starr is $4.60. It ran a great Everest third from back on the fence. Less than a length off tempted. J-Mac sticks. She's probably the clear danger here. And a valiant fourth in the Everest was Headwall. It was second in the Russell Balding seven days ago. Ethan Brown, Melbourne Cup winning jockey aboard. First time we get to say that. So, Cabalas is $16. He was led and was only run down late in the Russell Balding. Two from four attempts at Flemington and 1,200 metres. You've got Point Barrow, $21. Charm Stone. Giga Kick and Marzu are both $41, among others in the field. Tempted $1.95. That's a good price.
Speaker 3Okay. I'm going back.
Speaker 1I'm having a look at last year.
Speaker 3This fucking kills me. You're a handbrake. You're the handbrake. You mentioned Giga Kick. I did. He won last year. He won the champion sprint, remember? Yep. He beat Magic Time and Jolly Star. And then Chow Wolf beat Pericles. Was Pericles. Well done. In the champion's mile. And Steffi Magnetica. So, Bjorn ran second and third in that race. In the mile. In the mile. And then who won the champion's stakes, the 2,000 metre race? You should get this. What? Who won last year? Who's Cox Plate? Vera Sestina. Vera Sestina won it. She beat Zambardo. Zambardo? Yeah. He's plugging around.
Speaker 1I'm thinking of Zambales then.
Speaker 3But yeah, I remember Zambardo. Zambardo. Yeah, yeah. He's plugging around at the moment. But Tempted. Tempted. Yeah, Tempted. I find it hard to see anything beating her. I think, yeah, I think $1.95 is a great price. I think it is too. I think $1.95 is a great price. Let me just see if that's. So she's three from three this preparation. She's improved her rating at each of those three runs in the Everest, which has got to be the form. She sat closer to the lead speed than any of her rivals. It was a fast tempo. She was still strong late. Her and Kai Ying Rising were the best runs in the Everest. And she held off the likes of Jolly Star and Headwall, who had the race shape to suit. She didn't have the race shape to suit. Never been down the straight before. So that's the only question mark. But I don't see any reason why she won't handle it. You can't mark a horse down for something that they haven't done. And we're just getting an inflated price to find out about her. She's clearly the best horse in the race. She's the best sprinter in Australia. And I think she'll be winning.
Speaker 1I think the worst price I can see is $1.90. So that is, I think that is ripe for the picking.
Speaker 3Ripe for the picking. Yes. Picking. Yeah, I would say she's very hard to beat. Wet track would throw up a, like a heavy track would throw up a little bit of a. Heavy though. Like she's. I don't think we can get to a heavy track. No. I don't think it like, I think she still would deserve to be favorite, but it would just throw another unknown into the mix. I'll tell you who was a good run in the Sydney Stakes. Who's a very good. And the Sydney Stakes isn't a form, but it's also not bad form given the fact that Pericles is coming out of that Sydney Stakes and won the Russell boarding beating horses who come through the Everest, but Skybird. Okay. She's a very good wet tracker. She's a very good straight tracker. And with any luck, she probably wins that Sydney Stakes. So if we do get into the heavy range and you wanted to play something outside of the market, I wouldn't be leaving her out.
Speaker 1One win and one placing down the straight at Flemington for Skybird as well. Yeah. And that was on a heavy eight and a heavy nine.
Speaker 3So if it buckets down. If it happens to come.
Speaker 1Go and get a piece of that $31 on Skybird. Let's get into the champion's mile. And this just could be the double up of the cup week. Autumn glow. It is $1.28, very short, but we get to see the best horse in Australia. I strut her stuff at Flemington. 14 wins from 15 starts. Looking to go five in a row here, but she's up against the giant killer, Lindemann. He's $11. The old boy was tough last start in the Craven Plate. Won over Tom Kitten and Elias. Tom Kitten's $12. Like I said, second in that race, third in the Epson. He's won two from three over this track and trip. Blinkers go back on, and he's probably the best of the rest. And we've got here Buckaroo's $14. His last win was over two years ago, so he's going to have to pull one out of the box. They're probably all going to have to pull one out of the box or have a birthday to run down the champ because, yeah, surely none of these get near Autumn Glow.
Speaker 3Yeah, she should just win. I think, like I'm excited to see her at Flemington. Yeah. I've never seen her at Flemington. Yeah, she's the best. She's the best miler in the country. I think she's the best mile and a quarter horse in the country as well. I would have loved to see her in that Cox Plate. She should just be winning, but $1.20 suggests that she should just be winning. If you wanted to play a little bit of value in the race, within the law of the place, she was really good first up behind the Golden Eagle winner in Skyhook, Bayvark, Apocalyptic, Decorum. So that race produced the Gold. The Golden Eagle, Quindela. Okay, yeah, gotcha. Skyhook and Decorum was huge in that Golden Eagle, given the fact that he was wide no cover. Her work through the line was really good there, and we actually backed her in the Golden Eagle, but she had zero luck. I think she was going as well as Shiza Alibi when she ran out of room, and it was a very similar watch to Shiza Alibi. She just got throttled down, never got a crack at them, completely excused that beaten run. Seven-day backup. She peaks third up, gets to a mile. I think she could fill a hole, fill a sneaky hole. What's the place price? 50s to win. 50 to win, yeah. There's not many runners in the field. No, nine we got, so. I like that. Get your three-place dividends. $6.25 the place. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll take that. Yeah, there might be a little bit better. than that out there, but $6.25 is what I can see. But, yeah, Autumn Glow could be – we've got a tempted Autumn Glow multi so far. Yeah, yeah, yes. Why don't you put this in your bet slip so we find out what we get. But, yeah, I think that's just pretty straightforward.
Speaker 1And we've got the champion stakes.
Speaker 3Champion stakes, yeah. This is a – This is a good race. This is a good race. It's the second coming of the Cox Plate, really. Yeah. Because the Cox Plate this year was at Flemington. And then, what, two weeks later, we've got the champion stakes over the same distance, minus 40 metres. Yeah, at Flemington, yeah. At the same venue. You've got basically all of the same horses. Jeez Louise, they've backed this Omni man, who was very good in Australia in that Geelong Cup, behind Point of Law. Small fry who could be the champion. Could be the Melbourne Cup horse next year. Yeah, that could be our early tip. I think they're going around next week, if that's the Sandown Classic or something like that. But Omni man hit the line nicely. But $13, wait for age about him, is very short. He might be back for the Melbourne Cup as well. Could be another sneaky futures Melbourne Cup play. Question. What's interesting about this race is that you've got that tempo. The tempo in the Cox Plate was brutal. Yeah. And you've got the same two horses here, Land Legend and Lion Infantry Man. They run tailed off in that Cox Plate. But they're both at their best when they do set fast tempos. Yeah. So Land Legend set that fast tempo in that Mind and Power Stakes when he held off She's Alibi. Lion Infantry Man, he does his best work when he's sitting on a fast tempo. So I don't think they're going to run it slowly, so we're still going to get a fast tempo. You'd say Cosmic Crusader got a 12 out of 10 ride. The tempo there set him up perfectly in that Cox Plate, but he was the best horse on the day. Yeah. Ser Delius sat close to that fast tempo. So he was the one that was most unsuited by it, and he stuck on OK, but he's sat close to 4.5. So he's got the most of fast tempos before, and he's gone better than he did third up in that Cox Plate. So I don't think he's going as well as he can. Birdman didn't have the best of luck. I tipped him in that Cox Plate. He probably should have went close to winning, but he did have all favors there. He drew low. He got held up at a key stage, but the race shape was absolutely perfect for him. Aliana. I think I'm going to tip Aliana here.
Speaker 1Why is Aliana the favorite over Cosmic Crusader?
Speaker 3Because she started shorter than him in the Cox Plate. She sat closer to the tempo than he did. There wasn't a big beaten margin. I know, but he did beat her. She draws in so she can settle closer here. He draws out, so he's going to settle further back. So she settles a pair closer. You'd expect them to not go as fast here. They're going to go fast, but they're not going to go as fast. So it's not going to be as well suited to him getting as far back as he did. And you would say that potentially in that Cox Plate, if the tempo wasn't as fast as it was, Aliana probably holds off Cosmic Crusader. So I think she'll turn the tackles.
Speaker 1I was just surprised. I thought Cosmic Crusader would be a favorite for this race, and especially if they believe there's a little bit of rain coming. But Aliana's fine in the wet. She's fine. She loves it. This is probably, this is the most exciting race of the day.
Speaker 3It's a great race. It's a great race. But any talk about changing the Cox Plate to Flemington, this race, I put that to bed. Because it's just, it's the same race two weeks later.
Speaker 1I was also there. There's no fucking way you would have to go to Flemington again unless it was forced change. Because there was 97,000 yesterday at Melbourne Cup. I think Derby Day they had. They had 107,000. And Cox Plate, they had 36,000 or something.
Speaker 3They should run it around week, Cox Plate.
Speaker 1Bring it up. Yeah. Should run it at Gold Coast. It's easier for us. Tight turning track like Gold Coast. I don't know if that's the case or not, but yeah, okay.
Speaker 3Aliana. Aliana. Sydney.
Speaker 1Yeah, you want to talk about the old bloody five diamonds. It's a $2 million. A couple of minutes. $2 million race.
Speaker 3Yeah. Yeah. It's not a race that I want to have a bet in. Okay. I think the market's got it pretty well cornered. We backed D'Cleti Boulevard. She overcame the race shape and pattern of the day to win last start on the back of a luckless Epsom run. Linebacker. The market really trended towards him late. He had his chance, but he was really good in there. He skipped away. D'Cleti Boulevard had to knuckle down to beat him. He gets a little weight swing on her. Welcome to the show. He was really good there. He was held up at a key stage. Hit the line really nicely. He's going to get back from the wide draw. Plymouth. He brings the, I'm pretty sure he brings the Lindemann form. Yeah. He brings the Lindemann form. Ken said a little bit closer. Tim Clark in the saddle. Good race, but I think the market has it very well cornered for the purpose of a tip. I think D'Cleti Boulevard is pretty good. Back to the well. Yeah. I think she deserves to be favorite. I think $4.00. $4.20. I think you'll probably, if I was to have a bet in this race, I would play her like a tote product because I don't think she's going to start any shorter than that.
Speaker 1Okay. Multi. Zimbardo's in this race. I don't. Second place getter of last year's champions. Yeah. What a fool from Grace. Did you know it was in this race when we were just talking about it?
Speaker 3I didn't recall. I didn't recall. Um, but I, I, I did know it was well and well into his prep, uh, Lazura. Okay. I don't know how they beat her in the hot Danish stakes. Do you know who hot Danish is? Do you remember?
Speaker 1Uh, like I.
Speaker 3Les Bridge used to train. Yeah. Okay. Tim Clark used to ride up. Uh, she used to race in the, the red and the green colors, but she was just a great mare. I used to love backing her. Lazura's $1.45. That was my prime. Yep. Put her in the multi. Because I, I just don't know how they beat her. She's had outside the lead, uh, relatively fast tempo last start. She was too good for them all. She, uh, strips fitter for that. Um, she gets a better draw and she meets them all better at the weight. So I don't know how any of these turn the table on her. So $1.90, $1.20, $1.45. That could be the, the big multi of the weekend.
Speaker 1It could be the punter's multi. That's the punter's multi. You're getting $3.13. $3.13. I'm giving it a, I'm giving it a price pump.
Speaker 3Yeah. Give it a pump. That's. That's a good multi.
Speaker 1And you get 344 with the pump.
Speaker 3That's pretty good. That's pretty good. You could also throw Aliana in if you wanted to. Okay. Greedy. Get it up to 10.
Speaker 1Have you got a tip for us this week, Ken? I do. If you're listening to this and you want to become a member, the free trial is back. We had to flick it for Melbourne Cup because some of these little rats out there like to just get on the free trial for the Melbourne Cup week, so we get rid of it and it's now back.
Speaker 3There's no markets out for the Jockeys Challenge, I don't think, on Saturday yet. But I'll tell you what, I reckon Zach Lloyd will have a big day. This is a first. At Rose Hill on Saturday. Your tip is the Jockeys Challenge. Jockeys Challenge. This is your best for the weekend. Best for the weekend. Zach to win the Jockeys Challenge. If he has a good day, I'll have a good day as well. Where's he riding, Sydney or? He's riding in Sydney. All right. Best of the day is in the last race, Rose Hill. Race 10, number 9, Horseshoe Hill. Horseshoe Hill. I thought she was super first up. She found the right spot, but she was sort of needed room sooner at a key stage, but work through the line was really good. She steps up to 1,200 metres here. I think she can improve sharply. She improved sharply to win second up last preparation. The form out of that race. First up has been really good. Bruce IM, he won on Melbourne Cup Day. I think she's really hard to beat, so we're going to back her. She draws low. Tommy Berry in the saddle. That's a good bet. And then the race before that, I think this is one of the value bets of the day, show business. She's been really good to me in the past. I think she's been a mare that's had plenty of ability, but just hasn't been able to put it all together. First up, 1,100 metres. She began well, snagged back. She had absolutely no luck. I reckon she probably wins that race first up. Now she gets a better draw, stays at 1,100 metres. Positive riding change with Lloyd, my boy, going on. And I just think that $5.50, $6 about her is a good value play.
Speaker 2Very good. Yeah, so I reckon-
Speaker 3Six bucks. Zach rode the winner of that race as well.
Speaker 1What did you say?
Speaker 3The race that she was luckless in. Last start? Yeah, last start. The race she was luckless in. Zach rode that winner, men of care. So maybe he's gone back and had a look at the replay of his ride and he's gone, whew, jeez.
Speaker 1Did you only do one race for form this week? Aren't both your tips from the same previous race?
Speaker 3No. No, that's not the same race.
Speaker 1Wasn't it show business was in the-
Speaker 3No, show business comes out of the men of care race.
Speaker 1Oh, okay, okay, okay.
Speaker 3And then- Well, it was the same day, I reckon. Oh, potentially they were.
Speaker 1Horseshoe Hill. Yeah, it was the same day. So Zach, you're getting Zach going back and going,
Speaker 3that was a good run.
Speaker 1Where's this thing going next?
Speaker 3Get on the phone to Matty Smith.
Speaker 1I want show business. What did Matt Smith say?
Speaker 3Okay. Yeah, why not? You've got the premier rider in Sydney, isn't he calling you?
Speaker 1I'll tell you what. Bjorn Baker, like we watch, we fluff on about Bjorn because we, yeah, but the Freedia air channels were loving him too because he was playing up, you know, the character and it's just some of these other trainers, they need to start doing some more jokes and gear, I reckon. They had that racing TV. You know, that race day TV, the orange microphone. Yeah. They're going down to interview on people. What would you do with winners and stuff like that? Half people would say they'd just get a horse with Bjorn Baker as what they do with their winnings.
Speaker 3Yeah, well, maybe you should-
Speaker 1Everyone wants to be with Bjorn.
Speaker 3When's the next sale? Is Magic Moons the next sale? Yeah, I'd say so. We might buy one at Magic Moons. We won't. We might.
Speaker 1No, I'm the financial officer. We're not buying a horse at Magic Moons.
Speaker 3We might. We might. Well, I might just have to buy one. I might just have to buy it myself.
Speaker 1Oh, you go for it.
Speaker 3Then you'll- I got us a lotto ticket. We won. Did we win? $34. Oh, that's no good.
Speaker 1The problem is the ticket cost us 56.
Speaker 3So the problem- So what about if I went on my own and I said, I'm going to buy a horse, and then it becomes a superstar? Obviously, you'd just let me get
Speaker 1in at the price that you got it at. Okay. That's fair.
Speaker 3That's what friends do.
Speaker 1Anything else you want to add?
Speaker 3Nah, have a great weekend, punters. Hopefully, you are in a better location than my wedding. I fucking hope these people don't listen to this.
Speaker 1No, they don't listen. They don't even know who you are. I don't. You're just going to be the rude guy on the phone the whole time. Take headphones. Like over ear ones. I'll probably- Noise cancelers.
Speaker 3No, I'm going to take my little tripod and do some recording and stuff like content.
Speaker 1And then when they're up getting married, just turn it sideways on the tripod so you can watch it. Yeah. And people think you're recording- Like, you know when everyone gets a photo of the bride and the groom and you're holding your phone up? Yeah. But you're not taking a video? Yeah, I'll be watching races. Oh, enjoy. I'll miss you.
Speaker 3Hopefully, they've got some good beers on. Like, hopefully, they don't just have-
Speaker 1I heard it's a dry wedding. I heard it was a dry wedding. Maybe. Just cancel. I hope not. Saturday morning, come down with a little cough. Yeah. I better go in the office. I don't want to hang around and get you guys sick.
Speaker 3It'll be all right. Like, it won't be too bad. As long as they don't- As long as they don't- As long as they've got some- Like, the stone and wood package or something on.
Speaker 1We'll see. They're doing a Saturday wedding, so they've got- They've spent more than you.
Speaker 3If they don't have the stone and wood package on, I'll have to take 40 out of their card.
Speaker 1Take- Just take an Esky. Take an Esky and then, like, an iPad for the races. Yeah. Camp chair.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'll get the- I'll get the staff to put it, like, just to stream it. Like, I'll take a HDMI cable as well.
Speaker 1Say, I'm the bride's brother. I'm Blake. We met earlier in the week. I'm the bride's brother. Jen wanted to know if we could put Sky One- She did. She did. On the screen behind the bridal table. No sound. No, no. It's a wedding. Of course, no sound. I'll have headphones in, but yeah, man, no sound.
Speaker 3That's right. She's not an animal. Exactly. That's going to happen. All right, punters. Have a great weekend. I hope you back a heap of winners. Zach Lloyd and the Jockeys Challenge. Take that multi. Take that multi. I'm going to have a multi.
Speaker 1I'm going to have it right now.
Speaker 3Go on, Aliana.
Speaker 1Go on. Great weekend.
Speaker 3Tempted. Yeah, great weekend. And then, this is it. Oh, we got the CF4 in two weeks. Yeah, the racing just keeps going. Next week, we got the Sandown State. Just keeps going. We got, like, the- I don't know if it's- Is it the Gong and the Hunter and all those sort of races are about to come up? I think so. So, yep. What about the Meteorite? When's that? I don't know about the Meteorite. Yeah, that's at Cranbourne, isn't it?
Speaker 1Isn't that after Melbourne Cup Carnival as well?
Speaker 3Yeah, it's not one of my races. That's- Isn't it? That's Melbourne stuff.
Speaker 1But, great racing all the way through to the end of the year, and then we have Magic Millions. See you, punters. Doesn't stop anymore, guys. So, good luck this weekend. We'll see you next week. Bye. Hooroo. What's gambling really costing you? For free and confidential support, call the number on your screen or visit the website.
