Speaker 1This next guest, he can steer us, I think, into a winner because he's got some wonderful rides. Chad Schofield is joining us. Morning, Chad. Morning, Dave. How are you? I'm very well, mate. Let's talk about Tempted. So, Premier Stakes, we get to see her again. She was enormous in the Concord, over 1,000, very fast sectionals. How are you feeling now, looking at the field where she's drawn ahead of Saturday?
Speaker 2Yeah, I mean, the draw is probably not ideal, but I think we all know her sort of race style and race pattern now. And I think they're predicting a bit of rain, so it'll be interesting to see how the track plays by that stage of the day on Saturday. And I thought she had a lovely tick over trial since her first up win, and she's the horse they're all going to have to beat.
Speaker 1And then I guess it'll be Godolphin making that decision whether she's there in the Everest or not. I think she will be. I think she's pretty short odds. To be representing them. And with a race like that, is she the type of horse that you just feel, you know, third up when we get there? With whatever she does on Saturday, she's just going to be even better.
Speaker 2Yes, I do. And I think that's the way sort of Kieran's training her as well. And he sort of said that all along, along with Joe at Warwick Farm. So, yeah, all faith in them. Obviously, they've done it before. Well, they do it all the time every week with their horses, but especially with Bologna Patina. And Sydney with the sprinting races. And, yeah, no, it's very exciting. It's a great journey to be on and just happy to be a part of it.
Speaker 1Where does she rank in terms of horses you've ridden? I know you're going to get asked this nearly every start, but she just keeps winning and keeps giving you these great moments on the racetrack.
Speaker 2Yeah, she does. I mean, like as a sprinter, I always thought maybe Lincoln Rupi was the best after I won the new market on him that day. I think he was rated the world's best sprinter at that time too. But, yeah. He was just sort of fast on pace speed, whereas Tempted, she just sits back and just goes whoosh. The best turn of foot I've ridden on a horse for sure.
Speaker 1Yeah, wow. So, that's race nine, number 10, Tempted on the weekend in the Premier. And then, no doubt, if all things go well, off to a Tab Everest after that. And without being, you know, putting the cart ahead of the horse, you'll be riding Tempted when it comes to a Tab Everest?
Speaker 2Well, I'd certainly. I'd certainly hope so. You know, we've built up a good partnership together, me and the horse. We're unbeaten. I got on it after she ran second in the Everest Decaying Rising, and I think we're five out of five since then. So, long may it continue, Dave.
Speaker 1In the world of jockeys, and it's something that I don't know if it gets sort of spoken about public, but do you find, and you don't have to, I don't want you to give me names, but say if you're, you know, riding a horse, say you're riding Tempted, do you hear on the grapevine of other jockey managers trying to get that ride from you, or whether it's Tempted or other horses, is it that sort of cutthroat?
Speaker 2Yes, it is, for sure. It could even be an unraced maiden that you've trialled, and, you know, the trainer, my tongue, and she comes to you on the side and says, oh, but, you know, they're all kicking up for it, like almost as if to say, knuckle down and work harder. Yeah, wow. Yeah, it definitely happens.
Speaker 1So, then we move from. The Great Ghoul and Tempted to a bloke that's given you so many good memories as well, Chau Walford, a racetrack, he's flying this preparation. That King Charles, talk us through what's going through your mind. Oh, sorry, not the King Charles. The race the other day, I should say, as we build towards maybe a King Charles, etc., but the other day in the Seven Stakes, hang on, the Sunrise Seven Stakes, I don't want to get Kostya or the cash cow off board, but you took off, you put yourself into the race. Talk us through that moment before you, I guess, light the fuse on him. You know, was it a matter of that you're travelling along thinking, well, James is getting away with murder here, I've got to do something, I've got to put this bloke in the race, or was that all sort of pre-planned with Joe?
Speaker 2No, it wasn't pre-planned at all. Joe's very easy to ride for, especially with Chia Wolf, he's always. We don't obviously always talk in depth about the race and the horse, but. When it really comes to it, he's really trusting in how I ride him. The other day in particular, obviously, five-horse race, we thought we'd be at the back last, but I was able to quickly get in front of Otto Flyer, which was good, and then I had a perfect trip, I was one out, one back. Just felt like Nash could have put a bit more pressure on Autumn Glow, like throughout the middle stages, and in the end, she was getting it so soft and just mathematically impossible. It was impossible to beat her from that point in. So, knowing Chia Wolf has got good stamina, I made an early move and sort of got on terms nice and early, but she obviously had the rail and then James pressed the button and away she went. But I thought our horse's run was very good. We know he gets better, deeper into his preparation, and we're getting to that stage now. Saturday's a handicap, obviously. He's got to lump the weight, and he's going to have to lump the weight because he's the best horse in the race. But, yeah, again, back to the rain. Any rain that comes is definitely going to be welcomed.
Speaker 1I know that the Eagle Eye listeners, I saw this popping up on the socials, they were tweeting Joe and Brave about blinkers. This is before we had final fields. Would the blinkers go on? And Brave actually replied to one of those tweets and said, no, no, no, patience. There's obviously a waiting game. Do you have any input or say on that? Do you sort of say, right-o, Joe, let's throw the shades on now, now ready to rock and roll? And have you got a race in mind?
Speaker 2No, I don't. Joe's such a good trainer. He doesn't need me telling him what to do with his horses. And we've known from the past they're so effective when they do go on. So I love the fact he's sort of waiting until the horse is 100% ready and it's grand final day, and then they go on. I think that's a great tactic.
Speaker 1Is he seriously? Becoming a Cox plate horse as well this year? I know the talk's always been about King Charles, mile races, et cetera, but he'd look pretty good at Flemington where he's won before over 2,000 metres,
Speaker 2I feel. Yeah, he would. I mean, and I feel like the tracks in Melbourne always have a bit more give too, which he really enjoys. But at the moment, the King Charles is the primary target and he's definitely going there. He's obviously. He's probably won it the last two years as well, which certainly helps. But who's to say he might not end up in Melbourne after that? I don't know. I'll completely leave it to Joe, and Joe knows him better than anyone.
Speaker 1I suppose wherever he goes, he'll be going. Your other rides for Saturday, just to highlight a few, this Camino, who you trialled at the official two-year-old trials and wasn't beaten far at all behind Proverb. What type of feel did he give you in that trial?
Speaker 2He gives a lovely feel. Probably not for a horse who could win a Breeders, but more as a horse who could be nice later on. At the trials the other day, he missed the start badly and sort of got going nicely late. But he's not your typical early jump run speed two-year-old. He's a bit more sort of scopier than that, but he's certainly very nice.
Speaker 1I know the stable have a lot of confidence in the Dulcify around Genesis Runner. In fact, I'll be honest, and I'm not giving anything away here, as I'm good mates with Will Friedman, but I haven't heard him talk about a horse like Genesis in a long time. He's really upbeat about his chances on the weekend. What are you thinking? You've trialled him?
Speaker 2Yeah, I did all the early work on him, all the trials and gallops. I can't remember the reason, but I just wasn't able to ride him first up when Kieran rode him. And then obviously Kieran rode him again second up. But after the other day, I begged Will to please let me back on him because I know the horse so well. And I do a lot of riding for Will, and thankfully he gave me the chance, which I get on Saturday. And yeah, I'm the same as Will. I'm very confident. I think this horse has really, really good potential and he's going to be very hard to beat.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay. That's race four number one, as I said, punters. I haven't heard him talk like that, Will, and that's great. I guess that's a tip in itself. Mate, that you, you know, pleaded with him. We talk about, you know, we segue, didn't we, before when we spoke about jockeys, you know, and how it can be cutthroat. Well, there you are doing a lot of work for a stable and you're saying, please let me back on this horse. So you've obviously got a lot of belief in it and blinkers as well.
Speaker 2Yeah, I actually went and galloped him on Tuesday and he wore the blinkers in that piece of work. And he's such a lovely, beautiful, big, relaxed horse. We thought they might just sharpen him up a little bit. Um, his first two runs as prep, he's sort of been getting back a bit. Um, over shorter distance, distances admittedly, but, um, hopefully with the shades on, on the weekend, he can be, you know, Johnny on the spot and I think he's a horse with, um, like a really high cruising speed. Um, so if we put him on the speed, I think he's going to be awfully hard to beat.
Speaker 1Okay. In race five, you've got Lock Eagle who trialed, um, well in between his last start and the run on this weekend.
Speaker 2Yeah, he looks to be going pretty average, averagely, doesn't he? Um, he's going to have to lift.
Speaker 1Okay. And what about Get a Fix?
Speaker 2I think he's in the. same boat too you need to find form in what looks as stronger
Speaker 1race other runners for the carnival that we should just be keeping it on or they're pretty much these are you too aren't you aren't they tempted and chow wolf and who knows what genesis runner could maybe lead you into in the next couple of weeks as well
Speaker 2yeah you're right this is my this is my a team all running on the weekend um not their grand finals but they are the horse that they're my pinup horses probably all three of them genesis too because you'll head to the spring champion and then the um well hopefully derby so um yeah very important day for me on the weekend
Speaker 1you think that he will run a uh run a derby trip i do
Speaker 2yeah he's um he's um by an interesting stallion gun runner he's one of the top stallions over in america and they're very well thought of over there and um yeah he's just got this beautiful big action he relaxes and yes i do think you'll get the trip and just before i
Speaker 1let you go because there is a text on the text line about tenenbaum who you ran fourth on the in the golden rose the other day uh that's now twice you rode him in the ming dynasty uh where you ran third that day and and now he runs a fourth i know war woven blew them away but he must have um given you a good field he's a cult that's that's going to win a race
Speaker 2he will he will he's a beautiful horse um he's a full brother to the hong kong derby winner um cap ferrat so lots of stamina there um i felt like he's a beautiful horse um he's a full brother to the hong kong derby winner um cap ferrat so he found the 1400 a bit short last weekend so he's going to step up and trip and get blinkers on and potentially run in the tap craig i think okay
Speaker 1all right and you'll try and possibly ride him then or you'll wait and see what happens i'll
Speaker 2definitely try and ride him yeah i really like
Speaker 1the horse okay i like it mate uh what's planned for today
