CFB Traps & Chaos Possibilities + Dabo Defenders

In this episode, the host opens with a discussion of common college football traps fans should avoid, such as overvaluing early-season upsets, easy schedules, and returning quarterbacks, while also cautioning against assuming last year's results repeat. He shares listener-submitted traps, from wife distractions during games to the myth of "October" for South Carolina. Fall camp intel covers Texas A&M's rebuilt offensive line, Indiana's elite line-of-scrimmage units, Miami's depth at tailback and offensive line, and USC's potential playoff push if quarterback Jade Mayava improves. The NIL debate concludes it's a net positive, citing fewer off-field incidents and flatter competition, though it undermines Group of Five Cinderella stories and creates transactional player attitudes. Chaos scenarios include Texas losing two early games, week-one upsets like Boise over Oregon, Big Ten self-cannibalization, and top programs like Georgia or Alabama falling to eight-win seasons. Heisman analysis favors Darian Mensa, with long-shot bets on others, and bowl predictions are rated, including Ohio State out-winning Michigan and Clemson combined and Iowa State's conference wins versus Penn State. The show ends with sponsor shoutouts and a teaser for a special Thursday episode.

Our hometown is not a test tube. 90 miles northeast of Nashville, a battle for the future of America plays out in one small town. Developers with right wing ties have purchased hundreds of acres of land. We need cities on a shining hill. This is our town. A podcast about what happens when a small town becomes the site of a social experiment and fights back. I guess you didn't move in on a bunch of dumb hillbillies now, did you? Listen to our town on the iHeartRadio app Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. I think this leads segment we have tonight. It's not breaking news. It's not any camp until I just think it's one of the best ones that we've had in a while. A lot of crowdsourcing in it too. Anyway, don't let me waste any more time. I'll get to it in a second. We're jam packed. High top of a tolerable downtown Nashville, Tennessee tonight, lower dew point, still in the 90s, but tolerable, much better than the past two days, Tuesday, August 18th, the overlord, 2026. We've got traps on the show and chaos on the show, but it's fully under control. It's just a, it's a different vibe tonight for many reasons. We've also got camp intel. Make no mistake. We're going across the country with that. There is some heat in the inbox with Clemson, heat, Jesse, heat to the point where it may even make me rethink my position on Clemson. We'll see. I have like 30 minutes to decide. All that plus, we had a really good question I thought about NIL, you know, just kind of now that we're several years in to what the modern age of quote unquote NIL is. Has it been net good, net negative, net neutral? I don't think that ever exists. But whatever. We'll talk about it tonight. We're jam packed. Evan Lake, Ohio, Lakewood, California, Casagrande, Arizona, Multree, Georgia, wherever you're watching. Appreciate it. It shows off the charts. Our numbers are more than 100% up year over year. Boring. Don't waste your time on that. I just want to humbly ask you subscribe to the channel. If you have not already and if you have already, thank you. Just recruit five of your friends, family members. They could be strangers at Walmart for all I care. If they sub their friend of ours and if they sub because of you, that means you're really a friend of ours. Let's jump into the show tonight. Here's what I was talking about. I put out a call earlier today. I was just thinking about some of the traps that sometimes we fall into at the beginning of college football seasons where you kind of think something and you know better, but then you fall for it. Those are college football traps. I try and avoid them and I asked some of you today. What are some of the college football traps trying to avoid this year? I was going to lay out like five of my own, but you guys did such a better job than I was going to do. I'm just going to roll through these because frankly I feel a lot of these in my soul anyway. First one, David Waters, who doesn't phenomenal job covering Florida by the way, he said I want to avoid big early season wins by underdogs that may not be an indication of what they truly are. Yes. Yes. Do not fully believe in the early season upset. Now obviously there's a counter to this and the counter is let's just say for the sake of argument, Clemson were to go down and beat LSU. We would call that an upset, right? Fandall I think has the line at LSU minus nine right now. So we would call that an upset. So David's saying, hey, let me make sure don't fully buy into Clemson just because of that. They may still not be a good team. That's true. So it's okay to not fully just go over your skis for Clemson, but here's what you also have to do. You have to keep all the options on the table at the very least you have to rethink your preseason positions on one of if not both of those teams, right, because there are several scenarios. Clemson just could be great, LSU could be terrible. Clemson could be better than you expected, LSU not quite as good as you expected. All of those are in play. It's also possible that LSU was secret garbage, Clemson beat him, but it didn't really take that great an effort to beat LSU. You just know any better kind of the inverse of what last year's game was. So point taken, David, we've all fallen victim to this in the past. Next up, this is a good one. Barry said, I want to avoid buying stock in teams I like only because of an easy schedule. Yes, Mima always said, teams play schedules do not teams play schedules. So Penn State's a classic potential trap here with buying into the schedule they play, but they've still got to be good or else they're just going to underachieve, but the record will look a little bit better than it otherwise would have looked. But still, if Penn State goes eight and four instead of seven and five or six and six, it was a down year. You got to be careful right now preview season is upon us. And there are a lot of people when you ask him, Hey, what do you think about Penn State? The first thing they say is, oh, that's schedule, but that's not Penn State. Penn State's the team Notre Dame is the team. And then on the flip side of it, don't just automatically sell, not that anyone selling on Ohio State, but just cause Ohio State has a tough schedule. I think about Oklahoma last year, Oklahoma was left for dead, for dead Jesse in the pre-season. Why? Because they played a tough schedule. And then they hosted a playoff game anyway. So yes, this is a good one. Next up, got to be careful about this one, hiking, Acadia. First and last name. Is that biblical? It's beautiful either way. Hiking Acadia said you got to be careful assuming what you saw last year is just what happens this year. So right now the fun game everyone's playing since the AP poll just came out is remembering, not so fondly, that this time last year we had LSU top 10. We had Penn State top 10, we had Clemson top 10, and they all finished on ranked. So the natural follow up game is who, who's the top 10 this year that finishes on ranked? You notice Jesse, a lot of folks circling A&M, it's like A&M catching the most unnecessary strays of the week. So for, oh, it's going to be A&M, man. If any of these top 10s finish on ranked is going to be A&M, what if all the top 10s finish ranked? Now, I'm going to do something later in the show that's the antithesis of this suggestion where I just talk about complete nutter chaos and carnage, potentially. But the point is taken here. It doesn't just have to be that 2026 as a copy paste of 2025, conversely, there will probably be/there will definitely be some craziness this year that you never could have found in 2025. But it doesn't always have to be just nice and neat and tidy like that, or here's another one they're playing. Stop me if you've heard this before. Hey, hey, who is this year's Indiana? There probably isn't one. If I had to guess, there probably isn't one, Bob Chesney. There probably isn't one, Eric Morris. There probably is not one. Next up, "Jore, is that the whole name here? Just "Jore." "Jore." So busy, he didn't even finish spelling his name. He said, "I don't want to fall into the trap that when my wife says this will only take a minute during a game, it'll actually only take a minute." You got to plan ahead for this sort of thing. It also strikes me that some people are listening to the show. They're 16 years old. And I mean, this sounds ancient. This sounds like someone who's a billion years old, and those are the concerns that grown ups have, but you're 16, so you're carefree, you're living life, and you know what you are. So enjoy it. Enjoy it. Someday, there will come a Saturday, probably in October, where she should know better, that she will test you. Now, I don't have to deal with this, fortunately, because I was smart enough to marry a young lady who worked in College Football, and who loves College Football. So if anything, she and I are united on this front. We are equally yoked on Saturdays, and every other day, but especially on Saturday. So I couldn't relate to this, but I know a lot of you live out there in the real world and you have real world problems, and one of them is it's 327 on the East Coast. And those 330 games are about to kick off, and it's, babe, could you come here? You shivers. So yeah, prayer is sent, but that is a trap that you got to be careful about. Now I know you got to walk a fine line here. This is where you decide, do I want to stay home? Because like most of you want to watch the game by yourself. I know I do, but you do run the risk if you stay home of falling into the trap door, whereas if you go ahead and plan on being at a buddy's house, this doesn't happen, but then the tradeoff is you're probably around some people you don't want to be around. I don't even want to be around my buddies on Saturday. That's just me. I'm a little more introverted, but it is what it is. Next up, Vic said he wants to avoid falling into the trap of acting like the upper and middle of the SEC is better than it is. Now keep in mind, we are already coming off of an AP poll release that saw zero goose egg SEC teams receive first place votes, which the more you think about that is just completely and utterly insane. It is the largest clapping seal group think display that you could ever have in college football because Georgia was three, Jesse, right? Georgia was number three, Texas was number five, which, okay, great. That's not really an outlier, but the point is Indiana was sixth and received multiple first place votes, Georgia was third and received none because the entire world has collectively convinced itself that it's like completely forbidden territory to suggest any SEC team could be individually the best team in the country or any SEC team can win the national title. Anyway, Vic is singing a different tune. Vic is saying forget about the top of the SEC. I don't even want to get caught pretending the middle of the SEC is better than it is. And the beauty slash terror in this is it's sort of unknowable because a bunch of the SEC teams will play each other. They're adding the conference game this year. So more of them will play more of them and look, someone's going to be sitting there eight and four and someone may be me. We'll be sitting here in November saying, look, I know they're eight and four. That's a good team. They just happened to be on the wrong side of some close games against other good teams. And Vic's going to be there to say, nope, now I'm not buying it, man. You are what you record as you are eight and four is just eight and four. Meet me here in early December, Vic. What's up, shop said I don't want to fall into the trap of October. Just a money pit. I assume most of our audience knows what this means. There may be newcomers who have already turned the show off because they don't know what it means. Here's the situation. And I would strongly, strongly discourage you from looking up the stats on this because I mean, it'll be one of the worst things since, oh, I don't know, certain moments of your childhood when you found out certain truths about, you know what, I don't want to spoil it. I know some kiddos are riding around with dad and mom right now. The point is sometimes theater of the mind is better than reality. I said that when I watched giant Kamala wrestle with the moons on his belly and I said about October, you don't need to know the truth about October. The story of October is in a perfect world when South Carolina is unbeatable. When the world is right, when it is properly spinning on its axis, the last thing you want to do is wake up on a Saturday. Look at your schedule and say, uh-oh, we got South Carolina today. It's okay in September. It's okay in November. But in October, you don't want to be caught playing the South Carolina game cocks again. This statement will in no shape, former fashion stand-ups to statistical scrutiny. So don't look it up. The problem is they went win, listen, October last year and I can't in good faith keep calling it October if they don't win. It's just another month at this point and did we fall into the trap last year? Yes, I do every year. Maybe just don't follow me for a little while. Maybe make Shane Beamer make October right again and then it'll be okay to believe in it. Yeah, this one's point taken on this one. Jacob said, I don't want to fall into the trap of two to three good teams being left out of the playoff. Meaning we need to expand the playoff. Oh, talk about singing from the same hymnal. Oh, yes, Jacob, immunity, absolutely. This happened last year and this was like the great line of demarcation between people like myself and the canals of the world, the expansionist crowd. And there's a rumor by the way, Jesse tracked this down if you will. There's a rumor canal doesn't want to expand past 12. I wouldn't know it because he runs his mouth about it every chance he gets. So is that something that AI can handle for us? Just ask it what can I can't ask him what he thinks. So ask a computer what any canal thinks about expansion. Anyway, whether canal is or isn't part of the expansion to 24 crowd, that crowd sung very loudly last year when Notre Dame got left out of the playoff, even when Texas got left out of the playoff. And you remember what they said, Jacob, they said Notre Dame could have won the national title if they got in. And so if any team capable of winning the title can't make the playoff, that means the playoff is not big enough. That means we got to expand the playoff. And then people like me are saying actually that's not what that means at all. That means the playoff's the perfect size. The perfect playoff is a playoff that's big enough to grant access to teams if they earn their way in, but not so big that we just let anyone and everyone in who even has a one and 100 shot of winning the title. That's stupidity. And Jacob said, and he's right, it's easy to feel that way in August, but you can get caught in the trap in November and December of thinking, maybe you believed that Notre Dame should have been in. Many of you thought Notre Dame should have been in, and since they didn't get in, whereas you normally wouldn't have been an expansionist, you find yourself kind of questioning, who is this man in a mirror here, who is all the sudden thinking about allowing these unfamiliar words of expansion to come out of his or her lips? So you got to, you got to know, you got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything air and tip and sung that one time about playoff expansion. And there was one about quarterbacks. And this is an evergreen truth. This is not new with college football. Don't fall into the trap of over rating returning quarterbacks. One of the golden rules on the show is just because you played football last year and you're returning to play it again this year does not automatically mean you got 15% better. Sometimes you are who you are. Sometimes you may even get worse. Not that you lost the talent that you had the year prior, but maybe your head wasn't screwed on straight. Maybe you allowed distractions to enter the equation. And then that's not to mention all the other things outside your control where you may be changing systems. Some of the guys in your supporting cast may have moved on. There are all kinds of different things that can happen, but no preview magazine ever says that. I don't know a single preview magazine in the history of God's creation that ever looked at a quarterback who is returning having played the year before and said, I don't think it's going to be as good this year. I think production is going to dip a little bit this year. That doesn't tend to be how the expectation market works. And yet, especially with this year and how many returning starters we have inevitably, they're going to be guys fall off. It'll be viewed as a disappointment. And a lot of the expectation market right now is built on the expectation that all of those quarterbacks are going to be at least as good as they were last year if not better. We're almost done. We had one more. Yeah, look, I wanted to address this one. One of the traps our buddy here said he didn't want to fall into is Will Compton convincing me the Huskers will be in the playoff this year. Some will say that's an unnecessary shot. I think it's just an observation and I think it's a cautionary observation. I'll just say this. Will Compton's a friend of mine was over at his house the other night at a great time. Will's on a journey just because you see someone on a journey doesn't mean you have to take the journey with him. It's okay to watch Nebraska this year as long as you may be watching from a safe distance. That's fine. We're all entitled to that. You don't have to get hurt. Take it from me. I bled all over the place last year. I bled big red last year because I had him in the playoff at 10 and 2. I thought I was being a good friend. And in reality, sometimes friendship is about saying, buddy, you're on your own with this one. I love you. I support you. But no, sometimes that's friendship. We all have to make our own decisions. Big week here, firstly because it's another week closer to college football. Over at patestatematerial.com right now, of course, the don't tread on Saturday line has done bonkers numbers. But I want to inform you tonight. There are several new options over there, including a full overhaul of the Ramanoodle Express line. And Jesse, I'm telling you, I'm not a professional designer. [BLANK_AUDIO] Even I know that train engine and then the train car being a bowl of noodles with the smoke off the train car being money signs, dollar signs, it's one of the best things we've ever put in a store. That cornfield animated picture, that's one of the best things we've ever put in a store. And I don't know how they're gonna sell. I just know I've already got Alex shipin' me some 'cause one of the perks of having your own stores, you actually do get free t-shirts. These are by the dozens and does well, dozen new designs that you can get right now over at paintstatementorial.com. Not to mention, I'm also proud to announce the don't tread on Saturday line is less than two weeks old. It's already our best seller of all time. Buy a wide margin. Flags, teas, full women's line by the way. I got some requests for that. So we had Alex just put that together. So that's ready, paintstatementorial.com. Please, please gear up, gear up at your leisure. Hey, this is Hayes Davenport. And Sean Clements. We host the podcast, Hollywood Handbook on the big money players network. Our show is extremely accessible to first-time listeners. Each week, we talk to someone in show business, AKA The Biz, and try to help them with their careers and see what they have to offer us. We've had a lot of great guests like Sarah Sherman, not that great. Actually, can you help me shape this? How about we flip it on his head? Okay, how about we flip this around, okay? How, what is the surprise one then? Well, actually, you think as the straight man is actually the one who's acting weird. Adam Scott, love. This entire time, you've been expecting Adam Sandler to come to visit the show. I would never let go of that. I have, you would never set expectations for something like that. It seems like if the universe allows for something like that to happen. I'm open to it. I'm always going to accept, you know? Danny McBride, fine. Yeah, it's all this fragile masculinity exuding. I could smell it walking on the hallway to be honest with you. I was like, I was like, is that what you need? Nope, it's fragile masculinity. Ben Stiller, no. I think there's a lot of times out of context, people don't get it, or even know what a circle is. You know what I mean? Like, girl, I go work with David. Everyone's so dumb. Ben, fake. Right, fake, and also not interested. Or just like, oh, I've got my life. I don't care about your life. And a lot of other big shots that wouldn't be where they are without us. Oh, and by the way, Will Ferrell told us personally he loves the show, and he wants to be a guest on every episode. But he's just so busy. Listen to Hollywood Handbook on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Nick Tuturo. But I'm also from Queens, which means I know pizza. And on my new podcast, "Delivering Happiness" with Nick Tuturo, I deliver pizza from Prince Street Pizza to a new guest. We deliver pizza now? Then we sit down for a real conversation. I've shared a slice with everyone from Seth Rollins. What are you doing, my bell? To Alex Rodriguez. Just let you people know we're talking to one of the goats here. To Bill Burr. I don't think I've ever met somebody so exactly out of their mind as I am. And now we even have more great guests coming up including the great John Tuturo. Let's go happiness. Delivering Happiness. Mariano Rivera. Dig in, I'll start drawing up. And many, many more. Open your free I Heart Radio app. Search "Delivering Happiness" with Nick Tuturo. And listen now. I'm Hota Kotby, host of the podcast, "Joy 101 with Hota Kotby." If you know me, you know I'm always searching for inspiration and useful tools to maximize joy. So this podcast lets us uncover those things together through meaningful conversations with fascinating people. You're not hired just to fill time into space. You have something in your guts, you go with it. And Sean Johnson recalled the moment she realized her now husband, Andrew, was the one. He was just so unapologetically himself and knew nothing of Hollywood. He hadn't been on a plane before without his family. It was so pure. Texas A&M, we have not talked about in a little while. You'll remember if you've been flipping through your preview magazines and whatnot, they lost seven of nine line of scrimmage starters, right? So that's automatically supposed to mean they downgrade, but in reality that is just not the way this sport works. You can return all of them and not be good. You can lose all of them and be good. Or you can fall somewhere in between. Antosaka for instance, transfer from Northwestern. Marco Jones, those are two guys at the edge position that are gonna be really good players here. And also, you know, sometimes you ask, all right, well, if I lost a guy like Cassius Howell, who's gonna replace him? And the implication there, they're saying it with Miami right now. Well, if I'm losing Ruben Bader or Kim Mesador, who's gonna fill his shoes? Maybe no one's a one of one trade off. But you gotta do the whole in the aggregate thing, but also you gotta understand, all right, if Cassius Howell was 100, it's not like you go from 100 to zero. What if you go from 100 to a 96.5 or something like that, but then you're a little bit better against the run at that position. That being said, these are really good players here. Offensive lines still a work in progress, but I said in the spring and I'm still gonna say now, just because most of you don't know the names. Does not mean that this is going to be a bad offensive line. Now maybe week one, week two, maybe it's still round in the form, they thought in the spring and still believe now. They've got a combo out there they can play winning football. They probably got seven or eight rotational guys at least that they can depend on. I believe that the rest of this roster solid. You know what they need, man, they need Ruben Owens to step up. They need him to have a really big year at the tailback position. Don't need to talk about wide receiver. Wide receiver throughout camp has been everything. Texas and him thought it was. What about Indiana? You may remember they won the national title last year. Had their top two tailbacks drafted. Turbo Richard is a Boston college transfer and it just looks like a name we can pretty well tell everyone's gonna know by well, I wouldn't say the first month of the season because they don't play many high profile games. But Turbo Richard is gonna be a really good player for them. I would say Jesse. We don't do much Joe Moore award prediction in August, but that's the award that goes to the best offensive line in college football. I think Indiana would be my pick if I had to predict the Joe Moore award this year. They would be my preseason pick. They have four fifth year seniors starting on this offensive line. And then when you flip over to the other side of the line of scrimmage, why I think it's insane to have them outside your top five is because especially with these guys who get to return, they have one of the best defensive fronts in the country. So either way, line of scrimmage, these are like top five caliber units in America. And that's the year after they won the national title. And there's only one true sophomore, by the way, on that defense, Byron Baldwin. So yet again, yet again, we're looking at a team that's loaded where it counts and then a team that probably hit on quarterback from a tools perspective. And it just, it comes down to Josh Hoover to manage that offense and to not make catastrophic mistakes. That's what Mendoza was able to do. And then some last year. So we'll see there. But look, there's nothing. I would be very, very shocked if this team fell off just based on a line of scrimmage talent alone. Miami, Elijah Lofton last year, bulked up, profiled Moore is an inline blocking type and his production in the receiving game went down. I think that production is going to tick up significantly here. And I think he could be a weapon at times in the past game. And he's certainly not alone there. I mean, there's a lot of attention that'll be paid to that wide receiver room. Offensive line I want to talk about with Miami too. So this is another example of them losing production. And so the number that floats out there as well, they're losing for on the offensive line. And like none of the names that backfill are mentioned outside of Miami circles. This offensive line is not going to be a weakness. at all this year and then I think it will evolve into a strength of this team at some point this year. Jesse, you got their schedule by chance. All right, so if you look at Miami's schedule, the reason I always phrase it like that is when you open and get Stanford, Florida, A&M, Wake Forest, and Central Michigan, anything is possible in college football? Like, I mean, they could go to Stanford and lose for all I know, like anything's possible. There is not a defensive front here that's going to put them in a blender, is all I'm saying. So if they don't have it figured out by week one, or if they don't have it figured out by week two, then they don't quite have it figured out. I was when we were at Penn State the other day, it's one of the things I was talking to Matt Campbell about, because they have a similar entry point to this season. And my question to him was, yeah, you try and figure out everything in fall camp, but like, how much of it is okay just not being fully known by the time the season starts? And he said, well, you know, there are certain facets that you need to have figured out, but yeah, there's several other facets. You're totally fine. Letting gameplay figure it out. I'd be totally fine. Maurio Cristobal, if he needs to hit me up for advice coaching offensive line, I'm happy to take the call. Happy to. But I strongly suspect that's where his mind and Alex Mirabal's mind is that they'd love the final five rotation and every single thing just etched in granite yesterday. Everybody would love that. It's just not the worst thing in the world. If you watch them at Stanford and they win week one, there's some sloppiness and you said, man, this offensive line's got to improve. Okay, they probably will is the point. Also, this thing would join Lyle, this legal issue he has right now, don't know how that's going to resolve. Was talking to some people today about that, but the conversation I was having is they were saying, man, without Lyle, and there was like this trepidation in their voice. And I said, yeah, go on. Without Lyle, what? Without Lyle, they got more fletcher still. I mean, brown still there, Pringle still there. I'm not saying losing Jordan Lyle for any link of time if they did wouldn't hurt. Miami's well equipped to take that blow. So they are very, very deep with quality players in that tail-back room. What about USC? There are rumblings, Casey Cosgrove is in the building today. He actually just he contributed to the rumblings. He did not give rumblings, but we've heard rumblings. And here are the rumblings. In fact, I'm going to read what I wrote on the piece of paper. If the rumblings about Jade Mayava are true, dot, dot, dot. At this point, I should inform you what the rumblings are. The rumblings are he's taken the step, Jesse, the fabled next step that every player longs to take in fall camp. Jade Mayava is taking the next step. Now, let's just allow our minds to frolic and wander freely for a second. If that's true. And if Jade Mayava is a notably better quarterback this year, then he was last year when he was pretty good. And we got a third year quarterback doing what quarterbacks tend to do multiple years into their career under Lincoln Riley. And wayam and Jordan's back at tailback. And you got him plus King Miller. King Miller was like a 900 yard rusher last year, right? And it's not really mentioned all that much. But if I got two tail backs, I can count on them. I've got Jade Mayava playing really, really high caliber ball. And then I've got an infusion of a number one overall signing class like Luke Waffle at Edge has been a player that we've heard a lot about so far. Six five two fifty five. They're just different kind of bodies there, maybe in more plentiful supply than Lincoln Riley's had in his time at USC. Mark Bowman at tight end is another guy to that true freshman class that I think you'll see a lot. And to add one more name, John test Williams. You know, he'll he'll be a big time player at corner for them. He's a guy who is at Iowa State. And when everyone says Iowa State, you just think, oh, all those players went to Penn State. Well, most of them who transferred did. Williams, I would say was the best among them. Rocco Becht, maybe notwithstanding, just cause it's the quarterback position. But John test Williams was a really, really high level player when he went to USC. And I mean, he's immediately in that rotation with the ones. So my point is if I've got all these upward pointing indicators and Jade Mayava really is a notably better quarterback. I'm going to whisper playoff. I'm a whisper. I'm not saying out loud. And that's not a prediction mind you. But it's okay. Like at that point, would you be comfortable? Jesse Whispering playoff. USC playoff. Yeah. Okay. Grit your teeth and say, yeah, whatever. Lincoln Riley haters. Not me though. Not me. If I go down, I go down immunity. But I mean, Lincoln Riley, I still believe they're watching us in Danville, Virginia, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Spokane, Washington. A very important question has popped up in the paid state inbox. Marcus from Fort Worth, Texas said or asked, taking everything into consideration has NIL been more helpful or harmful for college football. And I want to ask you, Marcus, I want to ask everyone, press anyone, anyone listening or watching before I answer this question. What do you think about that? NIL gets a really bad route from some and it is deified by others. But forget about what anyone else says. What do you think? It's been a few years now, so we've started to see some of the effects of NIL on college football. Just overall, if you had to give a plus sign or a minus sign, what has the impact been? I think it's been a net positive, but it is not without negatives. But I'll weigh them out for you. This is where my mind's at. You can disagree all you want to. There's certainly two sides to this argument. It's just to me, it's about which side has more bullets. So Lane Kiffin had a, I guess, a statement maybe recently at one of his press conferences. I saw it today from the on three NIL account. This is a quote from Lane Kiffin. They asked him about NIL and how it kind of makes college football a job for players. He said, quote, I think they do take it more serious that way and they realize, hey, if I don't play well, I'm probably not going to make that much money next year. And if I play well, I'm going to make more versus I just have the same scholarship, kind of just how a lot of humans work if you think about it. Look, that's not the most college football romantic type of statement in the world. But it does bleed into one of the positives if you think about it, or maybe you haven't thought about it lately. So I'm going to put it on your radar here. You remember if you were covering college football or following college football in the 90s or maybe even the 2000s or before then, what was one of the rights of passage of spring and summer in early fall? You saw headlines of off the field issues. Guys getting arrested, guys getting in trouble. Have you noticed how much that's plummeted? I didn't say it's disappear completely. Have you noticed how much it's plummeted? This is universal feedback. 100% of coaches we talk to, 100% of the places we go, they will tell you, oh, are off field issues have fallen off a cliff. I went to a major program this spring and they were trying to remember any off field issues that they had had. And this is not on camera. Like these are people who would shoot straight with me on this. And they were like, did we even have anyone? And they came up with one and it was really random. And they said, that used to be like a, even at our best, that used to be a weekly occurrence we had to deal with stuff. Well, that's a byproduct of the way NIL has changed players perspective on how they treat the opportunity to play college football. So you've got far less off the field issue. I'd say that's positive. I think the trade off there is they also view their attachment to a university differently. You, if you're watching the show or listening to the show, you may have gone to class today but you really didn't want to. You may have driven to work today but you really didn't want to. That's because that is something you have to do instead of maybe something you want to do. And you always used to look at college football players and man, if this, if this guy committed to the University of Arkansas, it's because he wants to be an Arkansas razor bag. And again, that's romantic. That is connective tissue. If I live in Fort Smith or I live in Conway or I live up in Rogers, Arkansas and just flexing Arkansas geography. And I love the razor backs. I love that that kid loved Arkansas enough to commit there. And today, I think one of the downsides is it becomes glaringly obvious for some guys. It's purely transactional almost to the point where they take on mercenary type attitudes. And I'll be here this year, but I mean, who knows, I'll probably be somewhere next year. God willing, I'll get a bigger offer and I'll be moving on. I don't really like it here anyway. And look, in the past, I'm not saying every kid on your roster love to be there, but it was at least possible to believe it in a previous life. And now the worst part to me of all this is in recent history. There have been some players make iconic plays like players be part of big moments like program defining moments that in a previous life, they would have spent the next 30 years collecting a check on the public speaking circuit to go talk about. And now, they're like two uniforms removed from that moment and I, who was, um, who was the dude, fourth and 31, the iron bull? Was it Isaiah Bond? Yeah, like Isaiah Bond. Okay, I want you to think about that iron bull catch from Jalen Milrose, fourth and 31, it's a huge rivalry game. A generation ago, they just replay that on loop and Isaiah Bond would be paid $25,000 a pop to go to the mobile quarterback club or Montgomery quarterback club or Huntsville quarterback club and just retell that story and like he lives in Alabama, lower the rest of his life. And now it's just kind of something that happened and you remember it, but you do what I just did. You kind of go, who was that? Was that, um, that was Bond, right? You had a kid that ended up transferring, uh, you know, it's, it's not the end of the world but it's not a perfect world either. Now the big positive here obviously has been the competitive balance flattening of the sport has been undeniable way more teams have a shot. You don't have super teams anymore. No longer do you look at Kirby smart Georgia or, uh, well, Nick Sabin's not at Alabama anymore or Alabama or Ryan date like the best teams in the country right now. Texas is a glaring example of this. We're sitting there this morning waking up saying Trevor Gooseby got hurt. Now it turns out it's just a bone bruise. So we escaped like a disaster in Austin, but even Texas, like that's one of the most loaded rosters in the country. They're one injury away from everyone panicking because there is not that elite depth anymore. That's one of the things that I was done in Texas is one of the huge beneficiaries of this. So yes, it opens the thing up. I think it also changed people like me on our stance on the playoff because if this world had not changed, if we were still in a 2017, 2018 type world where they were really only four or five rosters that could win the national title, 12 teams would make no sense in the playoff. But now that NIL and portal flattened the sport, now 12 teams make sense. Nothing beyond that, but 12 teams make sense. So you know, unless you're a fan of that former style of college football, I think it's been a net positive way, way, way more random, a ton more variance, way more competitive across the board. I guess one of the downsides of that is if you're a G6 fan, that has not benefited you. And this would drive me up a wall if I were a G6 head coach. And then it's even worse if you're an FCS head coach. But it's like back in the day, you're vintage boysy teams, you're like vintage UCF teams. There are a few of them who were examples of places where they took the three star guys and the two star guys that the big boys passed over, maybe because there was a defect or more than likely it was just because physically they were lagging a little bit developing. Or maybe there was more development needed, and if you're Florida, you don't take chances like that. But if you're Florida Atlantic, that's cool. That's how you make up your roster. If you're Louisiana Monroe, that's how you make up your roster. Boysy was great at doing that. Best in the country under Chris Petersen, still really good today. They go good a bunch of guys that were backup options for Oregon or Washington or USC. And that's a come to Idaho. And they plug them into a rock solid culture and they didn't have to start a true freshman, maybe even a sophomore's. But by the time they were juniors and then seniors and then red shirt seniors, they had a squad of guys that could go out there and attack you. And the odds were that stick together back then. Nowadays, if USC didn't offer that undersized tight end the first time around, two and a half years later, when he's gone and developed on boysy's dime or UNLV's dime, and he's all the sudden, six, five, two, thirty, five, and can run a four, six, five. And he's on Feldman's freaks list and people are talking about him as being mock drafted late first round coming up. But he's not staying there anymore, just going to USC. And as a coach, you did a great job developing. You did a great job evaluating, developing and you poured all of your resources into him and you're just developing him for Texas. That's all you're doing. And so that makes the G6 Cinderella story impossible now. It was always unlikely that one of those teams would ever make a legitimate run in a national title, utterly impossible now. It just, this entire process totally fire bombed the G5 ranks. And one of the other things I wanted to address that I think people would present as a negative, but I get really tired of it, is they would say, well, one of the downsides of NIL is it's led to an unsustainable trajectory for college football. We'll fix it then. If it's got issues, fix it. You know, I almost embold enough to suggest that maybe the folks who have cash checks in the past are still cash and checks, despite how broken the sport is. And they're perfectly fine with it being broken as long as they can walk to a mic or socialize a concept every now and then that pretends like they're outraged by it. Best I can tell Jesse, coaches are still making eight figures at the highest level of the sport. Best I can tell coordinators are making seven figures. Best I can tell those AD salaries haven't shrunk all that much. Best I can tell those media rights deals are through the roof. So how unsustainable is that really? I think maybe when you see those numbers shrink, then it becomes unsustainable. Right now, it's just we need to say this stuff. That matter if we mean it or not, we just need to say it. If it really is unsustainable, you'll know because they'll fix it. That's how you'll know it was really unsustainable because I don't know how familiar you are with earning seven figures per year. But when you're in control of the mechanism that earns you seven figures per year and then there's a threat that it will no longer make you seven figures per year, you tend to fix the mechanism. Normally that's the way these sorts of things operate. Now, if you find out that the mechanism will just continue printing out money, but a lot of people don't like the mechanism and therefore you need to publicly badmouth the mechanism. Even though secretly you'd tap up the mechanism behind the curtain because it's printing you money, that's a different story altogether. Quick trip. No such foolishness. Quick trip is the real deal. It's very sustainable. It can easily sustain a road trip. I know because I stop there all the time. I'm making a road trip tomorrow night, Jesse. And so I will drive past certain establishments they get no mention on this show. I will even let the needle go slightly past E because of those two letters, Q and T. I will eventually get to a quick trip. I know every exit within probably a 500 mile radius of Nashville. I know how far I got to go. I know where I can stop. Quick trip, big, long time friend of the program. You know I love cold brawn tap because you know I drive at night a lot. So I have to stay awake. There's a lot of you just driving in the middle of the day. A lot of you, or on your lunch break, probably because you're listening to this the day after we have done the show live. And you're probably about to need to go anyway to get you some food. Quick trips got it. Need to fill up the tank. Quick trips got it. Maybe a little parched, you know, maybe maybe you just want to something carbonated. You know like the big Q need to get a big Q cup for the set. I can drink whatever I want out of it. I'm just saying I would imagine that right there, Jesse. So you could go pay full price like an idiot if you want to. But what you should do is download the quick trip app cause then that gets you a big Q for 49 cent. Or as I call it the single greatest value in the American economy today. That's my words. Not theirs. So I don't think I can legally back that up. But appreciate quick trip. Hey, this is A's Davenport and Sean Clements. Our show is extremely accessible to first time listeners. Each week we talk to someone in show business, aka the biz and try to help them with their careers and see what they have to offer us. We've had a lot of great guests like Sarah Sherman. Not that great. Can you help me, can you help me shape this, how about we flip it on his head? How about we flip this around? Okay. What is the surprise one, man? Actually, you think is the straight man is actually the one who's acting weird. Adam Scott, this entire time you've been expecting Adam Sandler to come to visit the show. I have. I would never set expectations for something like that. If the universe allows for something like that to happen, I am open to it. I'm always going to accept, you know, Danny McBride, fine. Yeah, it's all this fragile masculinity, exuding. I was like, I was like, exactly, no, it's fragile masculinity. Ben stiller, no. I think there's a lot of times out of context, people don't get it or even know what a circle is. Or just so stupid, everyone's so dumb and fake, right? Fake and also not interested or just like, oh, I've got my life. Oh, and by the way, Will Ferrell told us personally he loves the show and he wants to be a guest on every episode, but he's just so busy. What happens when a quiet Tennessee town becomes the front line in a battle over the future of America? Developers with right wing ties have purchased hundreds of acres of land in the area. The first thing you see when it pops up is high nears and apple etch. But they weren't just planning houses. We need cities on a shining hill that exemplify and embody the Christian way of life. Stop right there. Is that normal? A podcast about what happens when a small town becomes the site of a social experiment. God need men to rule and decides to fight back. Do not use my hard work to sell your bull. They're not just opposing what's being planned for here. Our hometown is not a test to. They feel like they're standing in opposition to an entire administration. Guess you didn't move in on a bunch of dumb hillbillies now, did you? Listen to our town on the iHeartRadio app Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's move on chaos. I would love to speak to you about chaos tonight. Ronnie from Somerville, New Jersey said what are the wildest things you could think of that we could see this year. I've never been more careful to stress that these are not predictions. These are merely things that could happen because in the modern age of college football anything can happen. You know how Texas is one of the favorites to when the SEC and Texas is a favorite to make the playoff and I agree with those things by the way. What if Texas was a two-loss team by the time the Red River shoot out rolled around? What if Texas lost to Ohio State in week two and then what if they went to Knoxville a couple of weeks later and lost? What if it really isn't all that much an improved product from Texas? Like what if they're just a pretty good team again? A pretty good team is going to lose to Ohio State. A great team maybe not, but a pretty good team probably loses in week two. A pretty good team is easily rattled on the road two weeks later in Neal and Stadium and then they got Oklahoma two weeks after that. They got to buy a week between the trip to Knoxville and Dallas. No one's predicting this I don't think, but can you imagine that? Can you imagine it's October 10th? It's Dallas, Texas, the state fair, the smell of corn dogs and desperation are in the air because Texas has already lost two games and they're in total wounded animal mode backs against the wall and oh you gets to go in there knowing we could not them out of the playoff with three weeks to go into Halloween. Can you imagine that? It's difficult to imagine, but it could happen. I think another chaotic thing that could happen is something that no one's given much mind to right now. When people talk about week one, all people say is, oh, people talk about week one in college football right now and all they keep saying is, and there aren't very many big games. Well, there aren't very many big games in a sense of you expect multiple classics, but people are talking about week one right now. Like this is a shame, man. This is a disappointment. And so naturally the most chaotic thing would be an earthquake moment in week one. Not Clemson LSU. It's not an earthquake of Clemson Beats LSU. It's a big deal, but it's not a stunner, but I'll tell you what would be a stunner. Boise over Oregon, Oregon, a 24 and a half point favorite at home. That'd be a stunner. Jesse falls against Marshall at excuse me, Penn State falls against Marshall at home. When everyone's talking about how easy Penn State schedule is, that's a stunner. Miami, that workable schedule. Man, am I even going to watch a Miami game until they play Notre Dame? Well, what if they go out to Stanford and just insanity happens? It's week one on the road, guys, anything can happen. What if Fresno State has USC against the ropes in the middle portion of the fourth quarter? USC's a 23 and a half point favorite. And let us not forget Luke Fickle and Wisconsin in desperation mode. And they open the season in Green Bay, Wisconsin against Notre Dame. And everybody's overlooking it. Twenty and a half point spread there. Could we have an earthquake moment in week one? Next up, I think it'd be very chaotic if the Big Ten SEC'd itself. You know, the working theory right now is there's a clear tier one in the Big Ten. I agree with that theory. And then the SEC's a lot muddier. But what if we're wrong? And what if the results in the Big Ten closely resemble what everyone expects the SEC to look like? And before you call that crazy, let me remind you, Ohio State is the odds on favorite to win the Big Ten. They play Oregon. They play Indiana and they play USC and they play Michigan. So number two, three, four and five are all on Ohio State schedule. That means Buckeyes play them. That means all them plays Buckeyes. And Oregon plays USC. Indiana plays several of the big boys. Everybody kind of plays everybody at the top of the Big Ten. Now, as long as tier one beats up on each other, but they take care of business against tier two and beyond, we're still good here because probably the worst thing that's going to happen is you got some 10 and two teams. But what if, what if the side gets dented a little more than we expect? And what if there's some three lost carnage? What if it looks like you expect the SEC to look? Everybody set on this. We just had a situation where the AP had zero SEC teams receive a first place vote. So everybody sure the SEC is going to just cannibalize itself. And the Big Ten, it'll be clear oil, they'll be clear water, clear distinction, everything's clean and very, very proper and tidy come December. That's not chaotic. What would happen if either both of them ended up like that or really crazily? What if there's clear separation in the SEC? And the Big Ten's the one that gets muddy could happen. I would just say the Big 12 as a whole, if we're talking about what could happen. I think Houston at Texas Tech week three is a gigantic rubber band moment for college football this year. It's a Friday night game too. So the thinking in the odds market at Vandall right now is Texas Tech is still far and away the favorite to win the Big 12. And then as they foreign away, it's a significant gap. And then it's the two teams in the state of Utah. Then there's a big gap. Then it's Houston. Houston plays at Texas Tech week three Friday night. What if Houston won that game? And what if they won it just because they really were able to go in there and compete with and beat Texas Tech? What if it's not a fluke victory, you know, like a minus four turnover type thing? What if you really watch it and just say, man, I think Houston was everybody's good as Texas Tech. Maybe even better. Then the big 12 is entirely wide open. Brigham Young could win it. Utah, Houston, Kansas state, Texas Tech. It's still be in it. Arizona and Arizona state could enter the equation. Mind you, we could, could live in a world by that point where DJ lagway, not wrong just early. DJ lagway goes to Atlanta and beats Auburn in week one. And look, I'm gonna say this next part. I don't really mean it. But theoretically, people win the lottery every day. Theoretically, like there's a percentage chance we also live in a world where Oklahoma state beat Oregon in week two again in theory. My point is the big 12. If that game goes that way in week three, could be thrown into a blender. And Lastly, and this is the most scary scenario. What if one of the teams that are too big to fail just fail? By my count, we got four teams in college football that still qualify as too big to fail. And they are Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, and Ohio State. And by that, I mean those are the teams that are still really good that haven't been bad for a long time. The last time these teams lost four games in the regular season. For Georgia, it was 2016. Bama Hat lost four in the regular season since '07. Oregon hasn't lost four in the regular season since 2017. And it's been since 2011 that Ohio State lost four in the regular season. They don't know what it feels like. These are people who really believe the floor is above eight wins. And I'm just telling you, it's not. It's not. This is a new world. The depth situation has radically changed. It you end up on the wrong side of injury and bounce of ball stuff. And Georgia can go eight and four in this day and age. Oregon can go eight and four, seven and five and not even be a disaster of a team. Just play badly in close games. That's really what it takes. Injury, misfortune, and be on the wrong side of someone possession games. That would be chaos. If Bama went eight and four, if any of those teams go eight and four this year, it'd be chaos, which is crazy to think about because Bama's over underwent totals eight and a half, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because Mike in Utah, Alabama spelled with an E. He don't want to hear that. But Jerry and Alfredo Georgia does not believe it's possible that the Georgia Bulldogs could have an eight and four season. That's impossible. No, it's not. It's unlikely. And it hasn't happened in a long time. It can happen. I promise you it can happen. It would of course be chaotic. Let's move on. Making sure I have my papers in the road, Jesse. Okay. Jim, John from Bufert, South Carolina. He came at me today. He said, "I'm tired of hearing that dabbo is on the hot seat. I'm tired of the Clemson dish respect. If you'd actually break down their team, you'll realize the model has them as a top 20 team for a reason." He's talking about the J people. Yes, it is true. The model spat out Clemson as a top 20 team the other day. John, thank you for your correspondence. Secondly, I hadn't put dabbo's one on the hot seat. Maybe other people have. Maybe you've heard other people say that. I haven't done that. I think that's dumb. Thirdly, let's talk about dish respect because you say if I'd actually break down their team, then I'd realize my model has them top 20 for a reason. So first off, let's not take the model's word as gospel quite yet, paper popper. The model had him number eight last year and what happened. So I wouldn't say the model having him top 20 alone is indication of anything other than they've still got a really good talent roster and since this thing disproportionately leans on talent ratings because it hasn't seen any games played yet, yeah, Clemson's going to be up there. But let's dissect it a little bit. So last year, what could they not do? They couldn't run the ball. They couldn't defend the past. They were 105th in rush yards per game. They were 120th in past yards allowed per game. So did that change? I think so. Yeah. There's a lot to like about the team. I'm not trash and Clemson. There's a lot to like about this team that wide receiver room is really, really good. Bill Helt is one of the best edges in the country. They added good portal pieces in the secondary. I'd say Ash and Hampton, who's a homegrown guy. Maybe one of the best corners in the country this year. I hear promising things about the ground game. I'll tell you what I'd be most excited about. I'd be most excited that a lot of people are looking at the Clemson quarterback situation. It's Chris Fazina's job or is it, you know, there was still an open competition in fall camp. And they're looking at it like it's a weakness. And I'm just telling you, be that as it may. We'll find out what they're made of early in the year. The one thing I'd be really excited about from an intangible standpoint is I can say that team will fight for Chris Fazina. I can tell you, I think that team's willing to go to war for Chris Fazina. I don't know if I would have said that about the quarterback position it Clemson last year. And that matters, it matters because a lot of times the result on the field can't perfectly be quantified by past recruiting rankings or portal rankings or even the stat sheet. And Clemson football is probably one of the biggest examples of that in the recent history of this sport. So, look, there's a lot we cannot know right now. I can't know whether Vazina is going to play at a high level. Hey, look, he can have all the leadership intangibles in the world and that team can want to fight for him as much as any quarterback in the country. If he doesn't produce, it doesn't matter. So I can't know how that's going to go yet. I can't know how that offensive line's going to fare in past protection. It sounded kind of up and down to me in fall camp so far, but I'll tell you this. If anyone's going to get it out of them, I think Matt Luke's a guy I would trust. So I wouldn't write them off, definitely wouldn't write them off, but more so than anything else, the collective attitude that place has should not be discounted. The fight that teams willing to have for that quarterback, even if a rest of America's overlooking him, it shouldn't be discounted. And what Davos Swinney has historically done in the spot should not be discounted. I know what logic says. Logic says they had their shot last year. The roster was more talented last year. If they didn't get it done last year, why would I expect them to get it done this year? I understand. I've even thought that way. Just let's not marry preseason notions is all I'm saying. Was that good enough? Well, that was that was very, very glowing. I think yeah, very, very glowing. I can't complain about that. I complained earlier today because I was hungry and I had no food. It is a godsend that factor has come on board as a partner of the show. I have the prayer hands emoji in real life right now. So I know a lot of you have busy routines. I've had a very busy routine lately. And so you kind of either decide I'm going to eat healthy today or I'm going to be busy today, but you can't do both. And factor is a big help there. I know a lot of you kind of dabble with the idea of this. I would strongly encourage you to look into factor because you don't have to choose between real food and convenience there. So these are meals that are ready in two minutes. I can attest to that. I went to 15 today, but I like my food a little more well done. No prep, no cleanup. We hadn't talked about the Heisman Jesse until now, because someone tie in Chicago, hit us up and said, did we ever get an official Heisman pick from you? I need it like I need air to breathe, tie. You should breathe way before you were about the Heisman in August. And I respect it, I respect the commitment to the game. You have not gotten the Heisman prediction from me. What I will tell you is I bought a few tickets for the sake of value earlier in the spring, because I thought the odds market would move. I think I said this on the air, but if I didn't, I'll let you know what I bought so far. But this doesn't count as my actual prediction. So John Matier, it's a tradition now. I bought John Matier last year. We all know I would have won, had he not gotten hurt, that's just an indisputable fact. This year I bought him at plus 3500, he's plus 2500 now, again, value. And Keelan Russell, I went to watch Bama practice in the spring, Keelan Russell had a really good day at practice. I came home, I looked at the odds market, he was at plus 8,000. I and I alone bet Keelan Russell to win the Heisman. And that's what I want you to write in your journals tonight, Jesse. I and I alone made that move. He's at plus 3,000 now, still hadn't been announced as the starting quarterback. So those are some value plays that I was on, but as for my lean and as for the other guy that I bet, my lean in the Heisman is Darian Mensa, strong lean actually towards Darian Mensa to win the Heisman. He has plus 1000 right now, it's got the third best odds on the board at Fandool. He is only behind CJ Carr and Arch Manning, I would take him before either of them, love the position he's in, they averaged 43%. be per game two years ago with Cam Ward. That's the territory. I think they could be in this year. I think he has the opportunity to be the best quarterback. Mario's had down there, including Cam Ward, because I like the supporting cast he has better than I liked what Cam Ward had. I think offensive line will end up being a net strength of this team. That wide receiver room is insanely deep. That tail back room is very deep. Darryen Mensa himself is a stud. Cooper Barcai come in with him. I love loft and it tied in. Could be an impact player. I just think about the weaponry. I think about Shannon Dawson being the guy calling plays for you. I think about the schedule they have and how much opportunity there is here to just annihilate people. I love where Darryen Mensa is at. He would be the odds on favorite to win the Heisman. I ran Pate State Sports Book. Now some other guys that I'm looking at. I'm going to say something. I heard Todd McShay the other day. He was talking about the quarterback rankings we did. We had Niko at 10 and we had Bryce Underwood at 5 in the big 10. I understand if you're going off film and you're going off resume so far, that is insane. I was doing more predictive thing this year. How I think the season is going to go. At this point it's up to Bryce Underwood to prove me right. He better not embarrass me on a related note. It's been brought to my attention. Bryce Underwood has the 16th best odds to an Heisman. They'll really love this. I wouldn't be mad at putting $5 on this plus 4,000 odds. Very unlikely. All I'm wondering is that that offense will be better. I love the addition of Jason. I love I love the staff that came in more so than just one person. I love the staff that came in. I love the environment. He'll be in. I love that he didn't perform all that well at the end of spring and probably had to sit on that for months and months over the course of the summer. I think Michigan's going to be okay this year. I think Bryce Underwood is going to be okay this year. Okay doesn't win the Heisman obviously, but it's okay to have $5 on it. If for nothing else, then to be able to say I screenshot that way back when I bet it. Screenshot past tense of screenshot. Please try and keep up and rub it in people's faces in December. Austin Simmons 35th. Jesse's boy. You've heard the song Jesse's girl, but the deep cut that really never was released as a single as Jesse's boy. And that's about Austin Simmons transferring to Missouri to play for Eli Drinkwitz. I forget the lyrics. Doesn't matter, but plus 10,000 odds to win the Heisman. That's the course, and that's what you need to know right now. Am I going to bet this? Of course, I'm not, but they got brought up in the production meeting today. And if we're talking about long shots right now, we're talking about value. Who knows? You may want to take a flyer on that. I think I'm 99.9% sure quarterbacks going to win this award this year. It's the deepest year I've ever seen at quarterback. So Darien Mences, my guy right now, I think they're going to dominate this year. And you can go bet it right now, Fandall, if you want to or you can go bet Austin Simmons. If Fandall right now, Jesse, did you? You did? How much? You know, it's a borderline hippo violation for me to even ask that. Fandall has all kinds of markets right now. Exclusive odds provider of the show. Heisman over there, weak one games over there, games of the year over there, conference winners over there. Let's know to make the playoff over there. But that's not the big news when it comes to Fandall. You know what the big news is when it comes to Fandall for the first time ever, Fandall Mike showed up at our door today. It was a great day. It was a great day. He had to go to get dinner. So I'm sure he'll watch the show later, but Fandall Mike does a great job. I mean, he's the guy that we can text him immediately and he's sitting right there with the traders. That's what they call the people who make the lines. We have a direct open line of communication. It's very helpful. Come JP poll season. On our show it's not fun when I make predictions. I would rather you make the predictions and I'll rate them on a scale of 1 to 10. If it rates 9.5 or higher and it hits you get a chalice of supremacy at the end of the year. First up. Grayson Johnson city Tennessee. No SEC team wins more than nine games in the regular season. Well, that's a nine and a half. Now that I think about it more Jesse, maybe it should be only a 9.25, but since I wrote 9.5, I'm going to stick with 9.5, which is critical for Grayson, because there is a chalice on the line here. Only one SEC team has an over under when total of 10 and a half and the rest of them are nine and a half or lower. Only Texas has nine and a half. So the rest of the leagues eight and a half, seven and a half. So look here's the thing. I just think someone's going to elevate enough to where they win 10 games. It may be Georgia like Georgia winning 10 games that still allows them to lose a couple of games. You don't have to be perfect here. And if it's not them, it's like someone's going to disproportionately be on the plus side of the critical factors always works that way. So I'd make that a 9.5. Next up. This one's bowl. This is a slap in the face here, not to Ohio State though. This was Colin and Cincinnati. He said Ohio State will win more games in 2026 than Michigan and Clemson put together. Now he didn't specify regular season. So it's possible Ohio State goes 16 and 0. And at that point, Michigan and Clemson got to go like eight wins a piece to match that. But I'm going to make this a 9.25. So quickly to just kind of let you know what the odds market says on this, Michigan's over under eight and a half. Clemson over under seven and a half. I had stats and info run the numbers that out and it adds up to 16. That's what it adds up to. Let's say roughly, let's say they both go under by half a game. So let's say they're eight and four and seven and five. Jesse, that's 15, right. So oh, and look, they could be better than that. Ohio State winning at least 15 games. They're the number one team in the country according to the AP. It's not impossible. But that's lofty. And that's not even to consider what if Clemson's good? What if Michigan's good? What if they're both good? Hey, what if? Now you want to talk chaos? What if we're looking back at this bold prediction in December? And it turns out Ohio State playing the toughest schedule in the big 10 caught up with him. What if Ohio State goes nine and three and Clemson or Michigan go 10 and two and one of them has more wins than Ohio State does. What if someone make it a 9.25? Next up, this is the quarterback one. Noah from Ann Arbor. The team that wins the national title will do so with a different quarterback than the one they start the playoffs with. I misread this Jesse. I thought what he said is the national championship team will win the national title with a different quarterback they started the year with, which I think is a better prediction. Because this really just requires someone getting hurt or, you know, a two a jail in the situation. I'd make that a 10. And because I would also make the other version of the prediction a 10, I'm going to switch this prediction because he qualifies for a child is either way. Just think about this. Texas, Alabama, I think LSU could fit this description. Maybe Ole Miss would do tonight. Like how many teams out there even have the QB depth to where they could start the year with one guy. Then for whatever reason, he's not there anymore. And they win the national title with their backup, like Tavy and St. Claire at Ohio State, KJ Lacey at Texas. Bama, it could happen because they got two guys neck and neck right now. So like Austin Mac starts. Keelan Russell takes them on a national title run. First off, there aren't very many teams that even fit this description. Secondly, it has to be one of those teams. And then a backup quarterback's got to win the national title. And I know it's happened a time or two, but that's easily a 10. Lastly, the Matt Campbell special here to wrap us up. Jake in Fremont, Nebraska, Iowa State finishes with more conference wins than Penn State. That's a 9.5. So Iowa State, just for your own personal notes. Iowa State's win total is four and a half. Penn State's nine and a half. And Penn State doesn't play Ohio State. They don't play Oregon. They don't play Indiana. Look, I know people are upset. Maybe that Matt Campbell left. I would say cherish the time you had with him. Be it out as it may, Penn State could be slightly down this year and still win more conference games in Iowa State, at least from what I expect. So I'd make that one a nine and a half. Good show tonight. Stuffie. Little little stuffiness in here. That's you. Coffin earlier, hacked up a lawn. Although this is a stuffie, no, so it's not related to whatsoever. Take your vitamins, kids. Appreciate you so much. We will. Oh, oh, you know what? I need to address the rumor. The rumor that we may have a little different show Thursday. And I can confirm that there's a rumor about Thursday. That's what I can confirm. I will probably release more on my social channels later tonight or tomorrow. That's all I'm allowed to say for now. That's all I'm comfortable saying for now. I will just say this. I'm a big believer in under promising and overdelivering. And in this case, I think we will do that. I think the Thursday show will be really fun. I'll leave it at that for now. It'll air at the same time it normally does. Appreciate you guys. Make sure you're subscribed to the channel. It helps us. Please do so. Thousands of you have this week already. Summary:

FAQs

Common traps include overreacting to early-season upsets, buying into teams solely because of easy schedules, assuming last year's results repeat, and overrating returning quarterbacks.

Overall, it's been a net positive. It has reduced off-field issues and increased competitive balance, but it has downsides like making player-university relationships more transactional and making G5 Cinderella stories nearly impossible.

Chaotic scenarios include Texas having two losses by the Red River Shootout, major week-one upsets like Boise over Oregon, the Big Ten becoming muddled, and one of the 'too big to fail' teams like Georgia or Alabama going 8-4.

The host's Heisman lean is Darian Mensa of Miami. He believes Miami's supporting cast, including a deep receiver room and strong offensive line, will help Mensa put up big numbers and potentially be the best quarterback under coach Mario Cristobal.

The host doesn't put Dabo Swinney on the hot seat and sees positives like a good wide receiver room and edge rusher. However, he notes last year's issues with running and pass defense, and says the team's quarterback situation is a question mark.

The 'October trap' refers to the belief that South Carolina is unbeatable in October, though the host admits this doesn't hold up to statistical scrutiny and they fell for it last year when South Carolina lost in October.
