Cami Téllez and Sasha Mutchnik

Kami Tiles and Sasha Munchnik, longtime college friends and each other’s closest confidantes, share a candid, humorous, and insightful conversation about food, lifestyle, and personal transformation. They begin by discussing viral food trends like “magic noodles” — zero-calorie Conjac root slime — which Kami consumed to rapidly lose weight. Their dialogue expands to explore regional food identities, with Sasha highlighting LA’s baked crab handrolls and Chinese chicken salad, contrasting them with New York's more refined but less common versions. The conversation delves into personal identity, including Sasha’s journey from brunette to blonde, which she describes as a conscious and empowering shift in self-expression. Both discuss their experiences with supplements and nutrition, revealing a growing awareness of men’s health and dietary habits — a shift from outdated stereotypes that men are indifferent to food. They also reflect on dining culture in New York, from the social dynamics at Trip Rihanna to their admiration for restaurants like Levedor and Miss You for their culinary craftsmanship and thoughtful ingredient choices. Ultimately, the episode blends humor, personal anecdotes, and cultural observation, celebrating the evolving relationship between food, identity, and community in modern urban life.

Live from WSA, this is Expense Account. Today we have two very special guests. We have Kami Tiles, founder of Viral Underwear brand Parade, and we have Sasha Munchnik, in your social director at GQ, and greater of starter packs of New York City. Kami and Sasha have known each other for over a decade. They went to college together, and they have quite the report to say the least. I had a blast chatting with them. We talked peptides, and we talked supplements. We talked about men's diets, women's diets. We've covered a lot of ground. This was a really funny episode, and I hope you guys enjoy. Cheers. [MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, guys. Welcome to Expense Account. Today we have Kami Tiles. Thales. How are you? Sasha Munchnik. Thanks so much for joining me, guys. I feel like we're going to have fun today. Really? I think we're going to learn a lot. I think we're going to go places. I mean, what Emily hit me up when was like, would you do a podcast with Sasha? And I was like, my best friend, my first podcast ever with my best friend. I can't put this, this is not my first podcast. I have gotten so many emails being like, do this podcast or that podcast. It makes sense that you would say no. I just delete them. I literally delete them. So first things first, what are magic noodles? What are these magic noodles? Oh, it's Conjac? Conjac? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like the Acorn jelly, right? Acorn jelly, yeah. It's just like zero calorie noodles. So they're just slime. So basically, it's slime. And it goes right through you. They do not break down. Last summer. [LAUGHTER] It's true. They don't break down. Last summer, I very suddenly lost eight pounds. And I was freaking out. Very suddenly. Yeah, like over a course of-- Let me think of a little dramatic. Over a course over a course of six weeks. And I had like happier grocery. Like opened in my like neighborhood. And basically, I was like going every day and I was eating these miracle noodles and like a piece of salmon, the miracle noodles. And it's Conjac root, basically, happier grocery. And everyone also sells them marable noodles. Or like, miracle noodles they have them too. It's so telling of my relationship with Sasha that I literally hit her up. And I was like, I just realized that like the food that I thought I was eating for like the last two months is actually like zero calorie, like diet food. And she was like, well, of course. Like everybody in LA knows about miracle noodles. Like you can get the bit of air on any time. Like, and I was like, oh, like, you know, she's already up to date. By the way, you can get them at like Westside Market too. Yeah, yeah. They're just coming like a really-- Well, it's your talking. Yeah, she or talking noodles. Same thing. It's like an evolution of the all-in-mom diet, I think. You have to wash them because they have a weird smell. And they come out of the package with some like Parmesan. Whoa, you're making like a culturally pepper with these miracle noodles. No, I'll just put like a bunch of Parmesan and then I'll put a little like red sauce. And it's like spaghetti. Oh no, about that. It's like spaghetti. I'm not sure about that. It's getting for someone. For me? 15 calories spaghetti. Well, we wanted to talk about LA foods. Like, you were mentioning these foods that I've never heard of. Oh, wait, what? What the fuck is a baked crab-- Handroll? Crab Handroll. I'm sorry for you. What is that? Like, it's really good. It's just a-- You said that it's something that doesn't exist here. I've never heard of it. I wish I could describe it to you better because I actually don't really know what it is. But I think-- so it's like wrapped in soy paper and it's rice and it's a piece of crab. But I think it's like baked. It's like baked crab. But is there like cheese or something there? No. So it's just-- It's a hand roll. It's like a confoner roll? No. It's baked. It's crispy? No. You're like-- It's like-- It's just warm. It's just warm sushi. It's like warm sushi. Yeah, it's warm sushi. But it's just what I prefer. You cannot avocado. Yeah. I would recommend it. What kind of place are you getting this from? Normal sushi restaurant? I think it's-- I think it's like a nobu or like katsuya originated product. But you can get it at like most sushi places in LA. Better place. But you said there's no Chinese chicken salads in New York. There are a few. And now there's-- But they call them Asian chicken salads in New York. Well, because it is kind of weird. I know. But in LA, it's like Chinese chicken salad. That's a thing. I think they're about to have a-- 2026 is the year of the Chinese chicken salad. Food-- The year of the horse and the Chinese chicken salad. Yeah. And Dimesquare food, they do a Chinese chicken salad. It's pretty good. Oh, really? Any Wong or a glass gets to the Chinese chicken salad. OK, so it's kind of making a Chinese chicken salad. So people have been complaining enough that now it's finally happening. Yeah, everyone. And so I'm in love. Your voice was good. Yeah, good. I drove by the P.F. Chains on like university, and they were like Chinese chicken salad. I was like, maybe I'll drop it. There's an ad for Chinese chicken. Oh, yeah. Oh, OK. Well, let's pull it. Let's pull it. I'm not complaining. They got a big horse there. Exactly. No, it's such a good taste. Like, it's so not a salad. Like, it's not nutritional. Yeah. It's not the point. It's just very delicious. You can have a more healthy version. There are many versions. Do I make one myself? No. OK. I think it was wondering. It's really something that needs to be concocted, I think. It looks easy, though. Yeah, the croquettes are something different. But it's like the wontons. The wontons. The wontons. Yeah, you have those at home, right? I mean, I have purchased the big pack of those fried wontons. What do you do with them? You put missionaries in your clothes? Yeah. Which is a snack. When I was a kid, there was a restaurant that I would go to where, like, instead of a bread basket, it was like a Chinese restaurant at the beginning of the meal. That's a classic. It would serve you, like, a little wontons drives with sweet and sour sauce. Like Steve on Sex and Cities at the Chinese place that him and Miranda go to and Miranda runs into and there after they break up. And then he's like, oh, I got this big bowl of wontons drives. I can't eat them all by myself. You know what I mean? You're doing a good student rush, aren't you? Yeah, that's my hidden talent. So what do you guys want to talk about? We're going to talk about, yeah, calorie counting apps. Do you want to explain why we're here together, like how we met? Oh, I guess we can talk about how we met. I don't know. They're probably like, why, why, why share these women? I was, I, yeah, I needed a blonde and I needed a brunette basically. Oh. But who quote us? Okay. But you guys are best friends and I think that you guys would be fun. You tell, you guys tell me why you're here. We're, we'll build no Emily. Yeah. And I think she knows that we have, we have a rapport. Yeah. We love a rapport. And honestly, 10-year long relationship. 10-year. So I met Sasha the first day of college at Columbia University and she was just like immediately undeniable. It girl just like wearing like the coolest like, you remember the outfit? I remember like always it was like these little skirts and these like, satchels and the scar. It was always just like what she's giving now, but it was at that moment to me being a girl from New Jersey. It was just so chic. I don't like, I don't, I, I look back on what I was wearing and I was like, it's like so shitty. It was bad. But it was at the time. I mean, I was trying to get in, right? Yeah. I mean, that's what we all feel during college. Well, we just college in New York City, so yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember that Sasha was also a film major and she was telling me this and I like had such bad undiagnosed she that I'd never really gotten to film culture and I was like, you never watched a movie. No, no, no, I like, I just, I wanted to get more into it. And so I remember just being like, this is cool, like this girl is cool, LA. She's like, LA, of course she loves movies. And then we partied for years and then it's crazy. And then I burned out and started a company and dropped out. And then Sasha got another degree. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I went deeper into school. Can we hopped it out? And I leaned in. Yeah. Here's the thing is JJ's. Do you know what JJ's is? Of course. Yeah. I remember. Are you asking to call me as soon as we know? I know. I didn't know I'm old. I didn't know if it still exists. Like, I used to have a girlfriend that went to Columbia and she, she had to like, she had like. We went on JJ's dates. We just would go there. Like, I'd be fucking with a fried, Ravioli. Like, that's crazy. That's crazy. It's really great. Yeah. That's like where, and like, all you can drink coconut water. Where pimples are born. It's like, it's like, it's all the, all the air in there. It's like, it's just blowing up. It's just blowing up. It's just like, it's really yucky. It's really yucky. Oh. It's yummy. So I wrote for very, like, briefly and sporadically wrote for vlog, which is like. What is it? It's called vlog. It's blue and white. Okay. W.O.G. So blue and white vlog. No, it's because it's a vlog. Yeah. It's blue and white. Yeah. Yeah. So. What do you guys barnard or Columbia proper? Columbia. Oh, sorry. Oh, sorry. I just needed to ask. I needed to ask. So I wrote, I remember this was like 2016 up to the election Trump Clinton election. And Hillary said, like, basket of deplorables. And then I wrote an article for blog that was like, Columbia's basket of deplorables. As you too. No. It was like, I was. I was. So I wrote an article that was like all the things at Columbia that were like deplorable. And what J.J. Plays made it. Oh. It was. I don't. I have to like pull it up. I don't know. I don't know. I'm. No case for free. But the other. No. You used dining. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - You're like student loans, or you're like parents. - You're paying them off for your parents. - Yeah. - Yeah. - In all these case ideas, like for decades. - Today's episode of expense account is brought to you by Sover Oak, one of Napa's true originals, a cabernet that's earned its reputation through decades of refinement. There's a confidence to Sover Oak. It doesn't need to announce itself. It just is. It arrives with that quiet authority, the kind that says the moment deserves a little bit more intention. Sover Oak, the official mind of expense account. My question for Cammy is how did Sasha change when she went from Bruno to blonde? - What? - Out of her personality change. - Oh my God, Sasha has always been so sexy and magnetic and just unapproachable and cool, awesome. And I think that that has only been magnified and heightened in this evolution. - I think that we're like-- - But she didn't change. - She was always blonde spiritually, or what did she think? - To me, the height of it was also her club era. So like Casa Blanca and Paul's baby grand. And then her you being like bleach blonde. And that I just remember in such just kind of it's seared into my mind. - So she was blonde when you met? - No. - Okay. - When we met, freshman college, Bruno. - I feel like it's a big step. - It was a big step. - Yeah, I did blonde once. It changed me for the worst. - When you make an intentional choice, like that about your self-presentation. And you're like, okay, I'm actively changing like a major thing about myself that God didn't give me. It just makes you more aware of how you're perceived. - I just hated talking about having blonde. Like every conversation that I'd have would be like, oh, you have blonde hair. - I still sometimes run into cells and tubs that I haven't seen in like a minute. And they're like, oh my God, you're blonde. I'm like, it's been six years. - I do think we might see a Brunette Sasha era one day. - I threatened it all the time to my friends. I'm like, I might go, Brunette. - You can all experiment with that. - I'm just enjoying it for now. - Yeah. So I hear that, Camille, you have a shopping addiction. - I think so. - Oh my God. - No one told me that. - We thought we'd talk about some good stuff about Camille before she just got engaged. - We talked about that first, before we talk about the shopping. - We just introduced the rock. - Let's just give her a little love podcast rock. Thank you. - Looks great. - Very sweet. - Is it heavy? (laughs) - You know, it's been kind of funny. I got engaged like five minutes before my Christmas party that I throw. I love themed parties. And this one was Scottish Christmas, which everyone's like, are you Scottish? And I'm like, no, I'm like Latin, I'm Colombian. And I was interested in where the origins of Christmas time, as we know it today, kind of like come from. And where it's like, you know, you'll log and like plads and mistletoe and it's like the Scottish people and the Celtic. So I throw this party that's like, everyone else were plad. And there's like a you'll log. And we did like this like insane like whiskey, like glazed chicken because Bushmore will send this like 16 year like age whiskey. It was kind of amazing. And then my boyfriend was like, you like need to give me a few minutes to take photos right before. And I was like, dude, like we're so behind, like make yourself useful, like get like, come on. Like people are about to be here. I was, yeah. He does not like to be managed. And then John Ryder, who is incredible. - Our dear friend, shout out the spot. - Shout out the spot. And you guys should have them on the pod. - Oh yeah, me too. - Yeah, I'll join him a while. - You guys should have them on the pod. He's also been a very, very close friend since the first day of college. And he went to Columbia with us. - Oh yeah, she did the dorm. - Yeah, very famously, yeah, Ron Pith, which was the, I had a New Yorker cartoon as a college student. - I had a New Yorker cartoon as a high school student though. - You did? - Oh wow. - I'm sorry, look it up. - Okay. - Over to you. - Oh! - Okay. - And so Jonah jumps out of the kitchen holding a DSLR camera. And I was like, oh my god, I'm about to get engaged. - You knew. - I knew, well, yes. - Did you cry? - I was incredibly moved by what was said and I was also just like, the next day we went to Japan for two weeks, which was like kind of just total bliss. - That's right. - And had an engagement honeymoon. - That's very nice. Like, Winston, like Winter Owens. - Oh my gosh, well on the subject of Onsen's, the thing that I recommend the most that we did was we went to Kenosaki Onsen, which is this one on Centown. That's like, I don't know, two hours north of Kyoto. And it like snows. And it's literally like on the coast and it's where they pull all the snow crabs out of the ground. That was the ocean. And basically, they're like-- - They come from the ground. - Well, the snow crabs are gorgeous. They're like gold and pink and it's delicious. And every single room had its own Onsen. And we were just like eating like 12 different types of strawberries and like a million different crabs. Yeah, but Japan was, Japan was honestly, I will say like a bit mixed to like, I think that the-- - You're the only person that's ever said that. - I loved it in many ways. I think like, the way I would describe it is, it's like, as if the future was designed by an optimist, I think that-- - That's a nice-- - And it also is cute. - It feels like a front. - It's good to me. - Like a front. - Like a front. - Don't like, you know, like-- - Like, I hate it. It's like if, like, people are optimistic and like, you're crazy. - Well, it came easy. - Yeah. - Well, I'll give you, true. I'll give you like a quick, like, little anecdote. We were in this amazing hotel in Kyoto. I won't say which, but like, we're like sitting down and like, the tasting money is like in Japanese. And so I like chatshipy tea because like, whatever. And then they're like about to bring out the, like, main. Is it okay if we serve you bear? And-- - We fuck with the bear? - My fiance was like so smart. He was like, well, it's bear isn't kosher. So we can't eat bear. - That's great. You should start the bear. - But you were eating crab, which is also not a coder. So the next day, the next day, we're taking a hike, like around the hotel and like, everywhere there are signs that are like the wearer of bear. And like, Japanese bear is like, Google it. They're really, really cute. - Yeah. - They're like, big years. They look like they're part of like the Hello Kitty world. So yeah, it was just not down to eat bear. And they also tried to serve me at a certain point. Chicken and sashimi. - Oh yeah, that's something that I can't really get myself into. - I almost started someone else like a year and a half ago. I was like, and when you land go and they're like, your blood pressure is dropping. Like, we don't know what's gonna happen from like, just chicken that I-- - And I was-- - We're doing chicken that you ate. - Yeah, I won't say, I won't say formal restaurant, but I still eat from that restaurant. So you shouldn't let us know. I mean, when it's your blood pressure fall, chicken? - They gave me some medication. - Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. - I was like, it sounds like a miracle chicken. - That was your blood pressure? - You're like, where can I ask you? - Yeah, well, this is the opposite problem. - No, but it was, it was, yeah, the chicken sashimi was like, I drew a line and I just couldn't. And I, I liked you. - Like, Cod's sperm, like seven days ago. - Yeah, that's normal. - That's a delicacy. - I was like, take me back to my little shraku. Like, my like, slopples and my like $12 almond milk. And I want to, I want to just be, yeah, I want my miracle new, I want my miracle new. - I don't have like, also like, amazing friend, Chitalian food, et cetera, and Japan. - Yeah, we had some amazing things. - It's amazing, every day. - It's like artisans, yeah, especially. - Yeah, I'm talking about viraments. - Yeah, I do think like, the best meal was just this like, we were in the Seto and Lindsay. And actually, Jason, I brought you a gift. Because we basically went to a soy sauce factory. That's 100 years old. - Wow. - Because most soy sauce in the world is like made in like, just like that. - Yeah, and they're like aluminum. - They're like, it's a caramel color added. - Yeah, but like, real soy sauce in Japan, there's like four different types. And they're like a really light one and a dark one that's more like biscuits. And these are like in a hundred year old barrels. And so we went and we like, through Seto and Lindsay, which is like, it's like 700 islands. Humans only live on 100 of them. It's really crazy. It's like the Mediterranean. And as we were leaving the soy sauce factory, there was just this random side of the road, like, udon place. That was just like the best meal we had in Japan. It was like $3. It was just incredible. And it's like, yeah, the depth of the like food ecosystem there and just like how many things they have and they're like standards that are just like so delicious. - The level of standards are like so high. - Yeah. - My question treat myself better. I should expect more from you. - Totally. No, it's, it's, everything is done at the, at the highest level. - But if everything is like, if you expect so much from the world and the world expects stuff from you, it's the thing. - It's heavy. - They all like, it works themselves at depth. - Mm, yeah. - Making soy sauce for me. - Yeah. - Watched drops of God. - No, I haven't seen it. I know, yeah, I should watch it. - It's coming for season two now. Yeah, watch it. It's good. - Yeah, I mean, I'm a, I'm a sake sommelier. - It's not unlike squid game in terms of this, like, but it's a style. - Yeah. But it's not, like, it's made at all. - No. - I wasn't asked if you would see in Tokyo by us. - Uh, oh yeah. - It's so good. - I was watching it. - Michael Mann produced it with Ansel Elgort and Lyre. - And were he was, like, kind of canceled at the moment? - He was, and he really got a lot worth watching it. - But it was incredible. - Yeah, I watched the first few episodes. I don't remember why, maybe I'll finish it. - I think it's an absolutely timeless season. - I think that it was one of those shows where I didn't want to read subtitles. - Yeah. - That's hilarious. - Like, I liked it, but I just was like, I'm just like, not in the mood to read. - How frequently does that inform your viewing experience? - I'm sure, one of my newest resolutions is to try to not have that. - I will say I just was on "Adult to Play." I posted on Instagram with this. I watched a movie that I thought was awesome. - What did you watch that? - It's called "Less Nini Us Bien." It's amazing. The "Good Girls" amazing movie, Mexican movie, came out in 2018 based on a novel. Had no familiarity with whatsoever. - You just watched "Rand of Movies?" - Yeah. - That's the kind of girl you are. - A lot of the film major. - Yeah, you just check out, I've never watched a random movie. - What do you mean? - I don't know, I've heard of it. - It's on a movie that I watched. - It's on a movie that-- - I'm scrolling, it wasn't that random. I'm scrolling from-- - I know, but I'm always like, on the plane, I'm always watching the department or like-- - The department, it's on every plane. Of course, one can only watch the department so many times. I mean, I love it. I love it. I love the little rat at the end. You know, like I'm here at the department. Actually, while I was watching this movie, the person next to me was watching the department. - I was just on Dalton, they had what's it called, the Elf and Joaquin Trier or whatever. - Oh, I'm sentimental about you. - I was like, I can watch this on a plane. - Right, it feels disrespected. - Yeah. - Yeah, like you were watching The Square or something like on a plane. - Yeah, yeah. - It depends, though, like, yeah. There are some movies that I'll see that they're available, and I'm like, oh, that's actually rude to the film. - It's disappointing, the end of the theatrical release. It's just rude to them, but there are some that I'm okay with. - Like watching Tenet on the plane. - I watched material that's on the plane, that was fine. - I started watching it and I was like, I can't do this. - Some movies are really designed for the plane. - Yeah, catch me if you can. - Catch me if you can, design for anywhere. - Yeah, really. - Perfect film. - I watched it hung over on New Year's Day. - That's nice. - That's great. - Crazy Rich Asians is the perfect, perfect plane movie. - Perfect plane movie. - Oceans you love them, that's great. - Departed another classic. - Yeah. - I watched Aaron Brockovich on the plane a lot. - That's a good one. - We love it. - We love it. - Julie Roberts. - Yeah. - So beautiful. - Yeah. - I know, I saw this work season. Did you see her at the. - Yeah. - You just came from the Golden Globes. - I did. - Yeah, my segue. - Did you see it? Did you meet Julia? - I didn't. - She looked amazing. - She does. - And she's been looking amazing on, at the Golden Globes since what, like 91, when she were the, what year was that? - It was a question I had for you, ladies. - Is like, what kind of, how does she look so good? What is she, does she get, is she getting something done? - That's not my business. - So we're not, we're not, yeah. - Okay, that's fair. - Yeah. - I want to know. - I'm sure, but that's not my business. - Okay, okay, I would love to know. - I think it's the face of like, come and like, let me a bell or whatever. I think you just have like, access to, you know, a fleet of like, sweetest doctors. - What's up with hepatitis? - Well, there's, there's different kinds. There's the injectable peptides and then there's like, the kind that you would put in like a cream, like collagen peptides or whatever. - Yeah, I think there's a lot of peptides over. - Okay, yeah, I doubled. - I know. - You can just dabble, it's not something you need to like, be honest with me. - I'm not injecting myself. Yeah, I would say like, you definitely feel like a pincushion after injecting yourself twice a day for like a few weeks. I'm like a known hypochondriac and I'll like, try literally anything. Like, you know, you name it. From getting like blood taken out of your body to anesthesia. - You do that? - Yeah, like, you need to turn me on to like, all these adaptogenic, like, or whatever, what are they called? Like, them, all the mushrooms. - Yeah, adaptogens. - Like the lion's mane. - I don't know about this. - She just, it was so funny. Like, we were having, we had dinner once and I was like, yeah, I'm like, my sleep schedule is so f*ck, 'cause it worked and like, I'm just stressed all the time. Whatever and she was like, okay, I'm gonna give you my regimen. And she, it was so cute, she ordered them for me. - Oh, wow. - So like the first, the starter pack arrived at my house. - Yeah. - So it's at, and in the morning, it's super you. - Yeah. - Super you. - And then at night, it's just, - Shout out to men like, - She's like, I told Gordon some other stuff. - Okay. - And then at night, it's skull cap and passion flower. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Yeah. - These are like Zelda ingredients. - I know, they sound like in a video game. - Like, are you having crazy nightmares? - No. - No on the contrary. This actually helps. - Good dreams. - Yeah, this helps get the devil on your back, I would say. - Huh. - Yeah. - I do struggle to fall asleep. That's always been a main thing for me. But I have gotten better. Now, when I try to go to sleep, I just visualize being on the back of a boat in Lake Como. - So what are some other supplements that should be like, on my radar, on my radar, on our listening radar? - Like I was surprised by how much taking iron supplement like gave me energy. That's just, that's just like a petite girl problem. - My entire TikTok is like girls putting like the iron fish like into their soups to get like better like iron supplementation. - So try this like German thing that's, I don't know what it's called, it's like a, like a syrup that you get, it's like a beet syrup. It's like. - Don't like beet. - It's like an iron supplement syrup, but it's like a German iron supplement syrup. And like you drink a shot and it makes you feel like you drink like a three Celsius or something. - Okay. - Well, yeah. - And it's fixed my girlfriend's bruising problem instantly. - Yeah, no, I'm injecting myself with B12 and an ID right now and I'm loving that. I feel just like absolutely so fucking alive after that happens. And so it's good, I can't say that I like long term recommend the idea of like being on peptides yet. I think that like we're, we're, we're, we're easing into it. - You have like a doctor that you're talking to about this. - There's a team. - Okay, I just got a team. - I'm just a team. - That's like, is this right? - And then I like triage them with like fucking like chatchy BTAs and like I can't trust any of you. No, I'm kidding. - I'll do a good. - I'll just do like, I just take supplements like, like oral supplements like. - What vitamins you're doing? - D. - D, everyone's doing D. - Yeah, B12. - I take, I take, I take a, like a, I can't remember what it's called. It's like a strong antioxidant. - An antioxidant. - Yeah, that's it. You know that video of Bella Hadida where she's like taking a million supplements in the morning, like for her Lens disease, like that's me three or four times a day. Like I'm just like, I take like eight to 12 supplements. - I take a lot of stuff today. - Oh, a colostrum. - A colostrum? Yeah, you know what I shoot those packet. They taste like cheerio dust. - Yeah, yeah. - And shoot like two packets and chase it with water. - When I tell people that I used to take a lot from them, they were like, that's horrifying. Like the milk that you like, they separate the. - It's so weird, no, it's just like milk. Like it's the first coming anyways out of the mother cow. - I'm sure they give some of it to the baby too. I don't think so. Not in the back. - They think they have nothing for you to drink two shots a day. - So like I'm already. - Yeah. - I don't know. - A vegan said that to me to be honest. - Did you read the story about how veganism is out? Veganism is out. - I've been out. - No, as New York Mag did a story like today. - I didn't see that. Why is it out? - This is a food podcast. - I was napping today. I was trying to show up the cat. - This restaurant is possible burger like a decade ago. I was like veganism is out. - I forgot about it. - I forgot about it. - I forgot about it. - I don't eat stuff like that. - I would rather just not eat something than eat a replacement of it. Totally. - You've always messaging me. - Oh yeah. - You won't eat a sandwich, but you'll eat. You won't eat a bite of bread. What is this again? - No, I eat bread. - Okay, you eat bread, but you won't eat a sandwich. - Okay. - I won't order pasta. - Yeah, you won't order pasta. - Yeah, Sasha won't order pasta. And she always always forces us to eat a bunch of vegetables. - It should be any or whatever. - Just like the side dish, you know, like curry shrimp. - Curry shrimp? - I had the chicken curry last night. - I will say, like, truly, I don't do the chicken too, but I like the shrimp better, but both are good. And the avocado and dive salad, so good. - Yeah, the cucumber salad too. - I've never been. - Caussage of Rihanna. I'll take you Jason. - It's way better than it needs to be in the food. - The food is so fucking good. - No, it's just funny. - It is. - It's just funny. - You have to say it's 'cause you're a member. - It doesn't. - You're gonna fire your-- - It doesn't matter if it's good, like some things are, I mean, Anthony Bourdain wrote expensively about like the Trip Rihanna back then. - I think this is a different time. Like, Boschia was there all the time and stuff, like. - It's, I think it's so important in its own way. - Yeah, it's important, but I don't need to eat the food that's important. I want to eat food that tastes good. - I think the curry is the best thing on the menu. - By far. - Yeah. - The curry? - Super buttered rice. - The curry is the best thing on the menu. - Yeah, it is. - Because it's like colonial curry. - Yeah, yeah. I went to Sweetings in London, and I had the curry, and everyone made fun of me because it was disgusting. And they were like, "Why don't you get the curry?" - It's good. But the best part about the Trip Rihanna is-- - You're just washing your hand in movie. You're just eating a curry at Trip Rihanna. - It's like, they've got like carpeted-- - Yeah, I don't know. - The speciality of your-- - You departed the building. - It set them as a result. - It's like, well, it's also the only place you can sit in New York, and you can like, it's the summer, and you can like look at the water, and there aren't like rats running around, which is just such a luxury. Like, you can just sit and like be like completely unbothered and like-- - You likes the rat of things. - Yeah, no, she doesn't know. - I just know that she lives in the East Village. - I love the East Village. - But also in Trip Rihanna, you look around, and it's like people are wearing actual like Armani couture, and they're smoking jewels that look like glosses, wool bottles. And I just feel like that's the most right service. - I mean, as you know, like I start a-- Like, starter packs universe, like my mind, I love the people watching me. - Architects and what's the name? - So like every time I have an event for work, like a red carpet for a film that's in like Columbus Circle Ish, or like at the Paris Theater Ish area, I'll go to the Trip Rihanna at the Sherry Netherland Hotel and sit at the bar, and I have had so many like hilarious and interesting interactions with like whoever else's at the bar there, like it's always interesting. - From time to time, it's like a sugar baby, sugar daddy, and go shit in the area. - Like you're just moving-- - From time to time. - Like I'm reading random people. - No, I'm meeting young women and their old dates, and it's really fun. - Nice. - They're fun. - Well, it's just interesting, or sometimes it'll be like-- - You're an anthropologist. - She is. - She is a social anthropologist, absolutely. - Internet anthropologist. - Yeah. - I mean, people are so silly when there's, an opportunity to like be watched and to show out and New York has so many offers so many opportunities for that. This was like big when I was growing up in LA too. - I feel like I feel like the second-hand embarrassment, or I just like, I don't know, I'm like maybe a different generation, the crunch thing, it just like makes me, it's gonna crawl, I can't really, like, mix me. - Yeah. - Sometimes like, I like, I went, I, my friend from my night club days, Ludwig, now works at Montserrat, and I'll visit him, and I'll just stand there. - Can you save a grand? - Yeah, so I'll visit him, and I'll just stand with him, like near the bar, and just like, look, like watch it like a movie. - What's the best spot to people watching? - Oh, it like totally depends, I don't know. I mean, like, Montserrat can get really entertaining. - When you're really, what's the most visiting? And you want to see, like, you'll like, you work like gossip girl, like, kind of work. - Crazy, oh, okay. - Well, that's, the Santa Rosa on the Upper East Side. - Absolutely. - That's a good idea. - In the morning. - Oh my God, one day, whenever it's getting that coffee there, I will never fucking forget that. It was the white tablecloth, and how orange his skin was. - Oh my God. - In the middle of the chandelier, it took my breath away. - Or, Zidimers also. - Yeah, Zidimers is great. - It was a Zidimers street. - You can make a day missy. It's like a fancy pharmacy. - Yeah, never heard of Zidimers. You guys never fan out. - Over, like, Thomas people. - Yeah. - I'm trying to think the last time I was like, really, like, oh my God. - For my work, it, like-- - You can't, you know a lot too. - Me too, keep cool. - Yeah. - Oh, A24 invited me to the baby girl premiere, and I met Nicole Kidman. - Oh yeah. - Well, yeah. - My wife was there. - I was like, I was so fucking overwhelmed meeting her. And then, like, Harris, Dickerson, whatever her name is, was there. And like, it was funny, because it was a private event. It was small, but he had so much security around him, because he was so hot at that moment. And it was just like, it was kind of hilarious. - Oh, it's his movie. - Oh, Urgin, I haven't seen it yet. But I think it's really cool that he is directing. I think he's very smart. - If you don't think everyone needs to direct. - I have no, no, no, no, no. But I actually trust, I actually believe in him. I haven't seen this film. I think he's definitely smart. His choices are-- - I have not felt that with him. - Like, watched his other work. I find the trajectory of the premiere to be really-- - Just be trance. - Be trance, zenith. - Be trance, trying to love sadness. I think he takes on really interesting projects. - You're in movies with rats. - It's about Gabe Boyz on the beach. Yeah, I think he's really smart. I'm interested to watch his career. I think he makes good choices. - What's it been in this year? - I mean, he's Beatles' world now. - Oh, yeah. - He got about that pole. - Yeah. - Good for him. - That'll be great. - Who's your favorite of the Beatles? - It's so crazy. - I made up. - I got hired to make a starter pack for the George Harrison estate. - Oh, he's the hottest Beatles for sure. - Yeah, that was cool. - 100%. - Who's playing George? - It's-- - Oh, it's Joseph Quinn. - Joseph Quinn. - Oh, yeah, that guy has a weird-- I didn't like Gladiator, too. - So-- - Did not like Gladiator, too-- - Do you be able to disaster-- - Two Beatles in Gladiator, too. - Paul Muscle. - Oh, yeah, yeah. - Yeah, Paul, exact. - His face, this looks like a mask or something. - Yeah, not Paul, though. - Joseph. - Yeah. - And then it's Barry Kyrgan. - Oh, yeah. - How do you say his name? - I don't know. - Kjogen? - Kjogen. - I was just in Miami, and I saw Vibes Cartel, and I saw DJ Khaled. - DJ Khaled, but I would kind of like heard that. - He was amazing. His skin, he looked great. - Did he, was that big? - I think he must have. - He looks really-- - But his skin was so-- - Having kept tight and smooth. He looked like a wax, like Madame Tussaud. - I just remember when he used to Jetsky to Ditty's house. - That's so cool. - Ditty was like holding like Srirach, and that moment in time feels like-- - And that's cool. - Such a-- - No different one. - So long ago now, you know? - Yeah. - The expense account podcast is built in partnership with Substack. I've been spending a lot more time on the Substack app. It's become my favorite escape to scroll productively, and it's also where I've built my business. Substack is where I read Lincoln Bio by Rachel Carton to learn what brands are actually doing right on social media, and where writers like Jalille Johnson are reinventing real-time fashion reporting. A few weeks ago, I went live with Derek Thompson, and it felt like thousands of us were hanging out and talking about the state of parties. Everything for Feed Me lives there, too. My daily newsletter chaps about New York City, live videos with pop stars like Audrey Hobart, and of course, there's always debates in the comment section. In fact, while I'm here reading this ad to all of you, my readers are talking to each other about where guys on Wall Street have been taking their lunch meetings. Go to Substack.com/Emily to get a free month of Feed Me in the Substack app. - So we need to talk about restaurants, yes. - Yeah, let's do it. - Let's talk about restaurants. - So what do girls eat? What's the-- - We love an Omen date. - Yeah. - So Omen still, I remember, 'cause Omen used to be like the purple spot. Omen is still the spot, like Omen's still the thing. - Yeah, I mean, there was a really cute New York Times story few years back about how it's like beloved by, you know, the new-- - If they do a good job, really, they do a good job. - I will say though that like the fact that I can't ask for like one kind of fish to be subbed for another on the Substack team. - I was about to say, like, oh, there's me. Like, please just get, like, I don't like tuna. - Mmm. - I mean, like-- - Mercury. - Yeah, I just don't, I don't like it. It's too, like, it tastes too metallic for me. So I'm always like, can you just, like, sub the tuna with, like, hamachi or salmon, or just, like, double on one of these things? - It seems like, yeah, that's like-- - Like, that seems easy though, right? - It'd be weird if you were, like, asking for, like, an upgrade, but tuna's kind of like the-- - Right, it's top floor, right? - Yeah, exactly. - And you're asking for low. - So I'm just like, I, and I feel wasteful, 'cause I'm, like, straight-up, don't want-- - I also look weird, like, thinking about one person, not even tuna. - Yeah, so I'm, like, can you just replace it? They're, like, no. - Which is fun. - Which is, but it's okay. - I love, like, a model dinner, which I think is, like, open, is, like, one of those. And to me, I think that, like, for it to be, like, this kind of model dinner, it has to be, like, no substitution, they're, like, fairly nice to you. - I have to say, I don't wanna be on the record, like, condoning the model dinner. I just think it's, like, I, like-- - But models, the models, the models are four models, or-- - No, it's just like-- - You see models. - This is just campaign models. - Oh, okay. - You see, they're, like, models there. - I said, it's just Cammy's. - Cammy. - Yeah, you can go to the camera. - Yeah, we can go to the camera. - Over and it's, kind of, you see models there. - Yeah, always. Yeah, when else, I love, I love, well, see. I love a schnitzel. - I go there on my birthday. I go there all the time. - Yeah. - I go there for a minute. - It's a great time. - It's a cocktail, but it's my favorite cocktail. I don't even like-- - Oh, so good. - So good, and interesting. - And what's the cucumber one? - Everything is super well executed there, really simple. - That's our collection and-- - Yeah, I mean, it fucking rocks. I love that place. - Yeah. - I like how chillin' it is to you. - It can always get us to see. - Yeah, it's not, like, hot. And I mean, that in the best way. - Last time I was there, I ran into two people I know, too. - Yeah, I've run into people I know there, too. It's great, like, it really has whatever it's meant to be doing. It's, like, doing it very well. - Yeah, yeah. It's, like, the right amount of fancy. You can go, like, any night of the week or it's gonna be a special occasion. - Yeah, like, I went-- - It's like not like so much for a new year's eve, and that was really cool. - Yeah. - Or, like, I went to celebrate when I got my new job, but, like, I could also go and just sit at the bar and eat, like, my little schnitzel meal. - Yeah. - Anytime. - So you do a schnitzel? - Yeah. - I just wasn't sure, 'cause of that. - Oh, 'cause of the-- - 'Cause of the-- - I don't know about your restrictions, yeah. - The bread. - No, I'll do bread-ing. - Yeah. - Okay, bread-ing, but no bread. - No, I eat bread. I just want to do a sandwich, like, sometimes bread just feels like, okay, like, this is adding a lot of filler for flavor. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Like, it's just flavor on top of the plain. Like, it's flavor on top of a plain thing. - I like a, I like it's a flavor. - I like it's a flavor. - I like a flaggle. - 'Cause they're crispier. I like that. - Where are you getting a flaggle from? - David's bagels? - Yum. - Flaggle. - That's a flat bagel. - Yeah, so it's just, I don't even know if it's less mass overall, 'cause it is definitely, like, bigger. It kind of looks like someone, like, smashed it. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, I never had a flaggle. - They're good. Yeah, no, I don't have an issue with, like, carbs, bread, whatever. It's just that there are some cases. It's less, it's not about, it's not a diet thing. It's, like, a lot of dishes, I feel, sure. - Yeah. - I think there are a lot of dishes where, like, the, the, the carb component, if you will, is, like, kind of just, like, a vehicle for the flavor. It's not lending flavor in and of itself. - There's a chocolate pot in quote where he's, like, a meal without bread, it's, like, a beautiful face without eyes. All right, and that's, that's my position. - Yeah, I don't love, I don't like bread. - No, but I like bread. - Yeah. - I like bread. Whenever I go to a restaurant, I ask for the bread basket. Like, that's not the issue. It's the, that's my bread. I don't mean the bread also on the thing. - I feel that. - I will do mashed potatoes. They'll love a mashed potato. - It's best cut. - Yeah. - Okay, potatoes are rice. - Rice, 100%. - And you know, the rice at Lavador is so fucking awesome that you can get. - I love it. - Oh my God, you love it. - You bring out the, I rise to me, like, is, like, just critical. - I'm a few rites that I, like, really, like, can shout out. Emily, the Major D at Lavador, I, like, tested her. I was, like, can you please, like, what do you guys do to the rice there? - I love her. - Yeah, I've known her, by the way, since I was in high school. - Really? - Yeah, she's from LA. - She used to be at Marvin. - I love this from Montreal. - No, but she worked at Marvin in LA and she worked - I don't mean LA, the best wine store, wine store, Jill Perkheimer. Amazing wine store Domino. Oh, yeah, of course Emily worked there and also at Marvin Which is a restaurant I still go to I ate there on New Year's Eve this year. It's so good with Alicia Bansal. Shout out Another abandoned alarm They'll call me a girly But yeah, Emily I hit her up. I was like, what do you guys do to the rice? And she's like it's literally like Carolina gold like just like butter that's it Yeah, when you get that good rice. Yeah, I was like you're you're like a real one for just like letting me know what the secrets are But I think Levedor is in my opinion the best restaurant in New York right now. It's the best restaurant Yeah, I think that was that that's what I was to take Yeah, yeah, I mean it's kind of that there's no nothing else that would be the best restaurant Well, you you know people are like a Hoss Beaster note. We have a lot of excitement I love about Levedor is like you look around and like unlike being on the lower you side or and so or whatever You just see like elegant old people and yeah, yeah, I will say like I really love the elegant old people restaurants Yeah, I eat I would say like while he's almost that yeah, I eat like 80% of my meals out in restaurants where I am like one of the younger diners So like I love alias. We've talked about this before yeah, um, I love Even the Upper East Side cinema is like I saw people Maybe she's like me on the Upper East Side I'm like yeah, uh, where else do I love that's like What does this restaurant under goes? Yeah, and that you took up a couple more. So that's your favorite restaurant She loves to take me to cop a mom so this is your take as a couple and you can get like the pasta That's actually made of so good so good better than Miragon noodles No, I do love a restaurant that is Hopulated by an older audience. I I love the modern. Oh It's no longer there. I think it's incredible. I also really listen to my friends did me 10 oh no New matriety there and we went to high school together. We did theater together If you go in the summer and you can ask to have like a drink before outside in the sculpture garden and not experience films Sometimes they project films outside Maybe the grill is Really good I've actually never been yeah, oh, we're going right after that. I'm gonna go in a car and we're pulling up Yeah, I was the post dollar press. It's just me. Oh the best one the best dishes. It's so impressive and it's delicious It's incredible. Yeah, and I like and you can also get a reservation there. Yeah, it's chill and it's like so feel so special every time you go Yeah Yeah, and like the war halls as you're coming in like the book match like marble and like the book match like insane like wood veneer And that's sort of that's sort of the cup of most energy. Yeah I think that they would love to hear that the grill is like Well, it's just like Yeah, yeah, I think also just more more table side. I think more table side No more dinner on it. It's more dinner on it. So not here for like I'm here for table side. I know people love it food writers love it like I don't love table side because I don't I feel uncomfortable. I don't need you to perform for me Hunger Games. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm like make it in the kitchen. It just feels very like Like I mean the whole reason the whole reason the table side exists is it's it's so like I hold over from an era. Yeah We're very slaves or there were there were like differences were meant to be Like the reason whatever. I don't want to get like But like it is my favorite restaurant is Kaplamasa and also I'm talking about Just me like it feels silly to me I think there are only a couple things that are actually made better by it. I actually don't even want my salad to us table side because I would like a chilled little Well, but I do like about the pasta. It's nice to see like what makes up the gravy And then you're like oh my god like why did I never think to like toss pasta and gravy like genius Yeah, yeah, the other day I prefer gravy from Thanksgiving and I made a pasta sauce and I was like wait I could just put the gravy in the pot. Yeah, it's just stock. Yeah, I put it in it. That's it. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I know I'm sure it's awesome I will say like a flun-bay dessert table side is charming. Yeah, the fire is always nice I want to show like if it's gonna be like you're gonna make something it doesn't need to be a guacamole I want to have like fireworks The hottest restaurant in New Haven to like get margaritas and like chips and guac to pre-game at does table cycle What are you pre-gaming forth in New Haven? She went to the L. Oh, yeah, it was college stuff. Yeah Would put some pizza place of it. Oh my preferred one is actually bar Ah, which was right. Yeah, yeah, it's like the new it's the new-ish place. Yeah, it's right across from Lewis legend It looks really good, but I it's good I've only I couldn't go because I just I don't even do even one time Jason what are your like favorite slices in the city? I'm not a big piece of person, but you're not a pizza person. I honestly that surprises me. Is it Christie's though? I was saying that I've not been a Christie's Because it's serious. It's amazing It's as good as I literally wanted it to bend and Jacob and Jillian were like the But the line thing is fun. No, it was totally empty and they were so cute They were like we're scared nobody's gonna come that and I was like I had the pizza and I was like This is about to be huge Yeah, and then I was like okay, so tell me like why this pizza's the one of them is like 68 dollars And it's like it has 13 dollars of age ball stomach and I was like, okay $60. Yeah, there's one on the menu I mean, it's it's worth I wish they did slices because then you have to get like I understand why the unity. What kind of you know that this slices? Well, they do like the New York style pizza That's like amazing just like classic cheese, but then the one that I had was like a leap in like He will not it's kind of like you know cheese board and Berkeley that does these kind of You know, it's my sport in Berkeley. It's a very very famous like Pizza moment. It's like a Alice waters. It's a cross from shape and ease Okay, it's just like a very famous pizza establishment They only do one flavor every single day, and it's like corn or leaks or a pizza or like something It's experimental pizza. You like experimental pizza. I do. Yeah. I I fuck with some experimental pizza. I think that I like it But I don't want people to think that I like experimental pizza. I'll do a marinara Yeah, no, I know, but I'm saying that's like I'll do that or a cheese or sometimes I'll be like okay mushrooms are okay Yeah, one thing I will say this by super-gatoni at Lucale is way better than this by super-gatoni at carbone I don't think anyone needs to be talking about carbon at all. I'm just saying like What I'm a huge fan. I fuck with Lucale is like I've no mark is wonderful I absolutely fuck with it. Yeah, it's you have to wait in line. You don't fuck with it. I really only go to Brooklyn for like it's great three restaurants. What are they? Um Is he called Walters? Oh, yeah, they do a roast chicken. I love that restaurant. I don't know why It's just like it's a classic. It's something I crave really aggressively Diner for sure. Yeah, I don't know if there is a toss up right like I really love me see. Yeah, do you yeah? I think I think Lillia is better, but I know I miss you miss you. I think I think miss you miss you Oh, but it's like a parking lot. It looks like no miss you pasta is a really incredible fast casual concept That's like very elevated and like million use and it's like but what miss you does that I love is they Do vegetables so well and that's something that like that's the other reason I really will always like really love Because you know pasta no, I'll eat the pasta. I'm miss you at miss you because it's like all That's what you get there, but like That's the reason I love via Crota 2 is like really thoughtful good vegetable dishes. Yeah, shout out messy robins. Yeah. Oh, you want to talk about King. I I want to love King. I love King. I was so happy to say it on the top of the list again. To me like I'm not a king person That's okay. I think it's for girls. I think it is It is And when they opened they were like we like basically run by girls. Yeah, it's fine It's for women. Yeah Something to me so like intellectually stimulating about having to like every time I go and like open the menu There's like several words that I've never seen before and I'm like I'm like pulling up Google like this is like like Instinctively I can know like Lomba Tello is maybe steak, but I like need to confirm and I just like love just They don't make anything like easy there. See, I feel like No, I think it's no it's really like Corsican. It's very yeah, and they're always switching it up and pushing it French Italian totally and I don't French Italian. Yeah, I don't think really that That's not chocolate cocktail there So they have they have this one cocktail that just blows my mind. It's my it's like the only thing that makes me want a king Which one it's the grasshopper what what is in it? It's like it's like a Is it like a proper glass grasshopper? Yeah, but they make it with like a big vodka and like Crypto cow and we should go. It's amazing. We could go. We should we should pull up because I My never talked to all New York I just love that they have those beautiful pennies like I think I just would go and have the grasshopper in the pennies. Yeah, I don't need to have a What I love about that place is like the rumours of us of all the restaurants in New York is probably the one that's the most I mean I know it's pennies is in the new it's like the most Alice waters ask or like That style of like or just kind of California - A little purity to fish with lentils and rice. - One of the greens. - And braised greens. - Yeah, I think that's beautiful. - Every dish has one too many things. Like I'm like, do you like the lentils and the greens or have the lentils and the rice? - No, the greens and the rice. - No, if you chat up the bartender there, they will serve you tomorrow's that are like 50 years old. They bought an auction and it's a great place. - It's a wonderful experience. - I love the best room, I love the clothootie or whatever it's called, like the grasshopper. I love the pennies, I think it's one of the best dishes in New York to pennies, I find that the entrees are just like overwrought. - Oh, I love them all. - Try buying the cocktail. - So funny. - Train to Bayon. It's just, it's tarragon infused gin and it's like, I have two of those. - What is it called? - Train to Bayon. - Train to Bayon. - It's always have it on the menu. It's just a cup of tarragon infused gin and it's just incredible. - I'm shocked that you find their main courses overwrought because it's literally just like, side, side. - But the house has like a garden for something, it's like, but so does every restaurant that you like has like an overwrought entre. - I want to hear about this men's diets. - Yeah, I do feel like since I started working at a men's magazine, I've become much more aware of the degree to which men think about food and obsess over it. It's funny because I think I grew up with an understanding of like, this is a very LA kind of thing of like, oh no, girls like are obsessed over food and guys just like scarf down whatever sandwich they can find or whatever. But not the case, certainly not anymore. I'm learning so much about macros. - What are you learning? - Well, just that like men, men having disorders too. No, but just like, no, no, no, but not even just that. Like the more interesting thing that I've realized is like there's kind of two types of guys. There's guys that think about how many vegetables they'll consume in a day and the guys that don't like, I love when I hear a guy say like, you know, if a family doing someone is like, oh, like what, you know, like we're talking about what we're gonna have for dinner so we're like reviewing what someone consumed earlier that day. And it's either, there's like two kinds of guys. There's these are like, oh yeah, like, I had a tacos for lunch, so like can we go somewhere where I can have a vegetable or whatever? Or there's a guy that's like, no, I haven't eaten anything. Like, I just need something. - Those guys the better kind of guy. - Oh, that, yeah, depends on the guy. But it's just like, there's, you know, like there's the intentional eater and the kind of boy eater. - The sixth and beyond, of course, vegetable consumption. It's like the protein eater. - Oh my god, yeah, my fiance is full blown atkins. Like he needs to grill steak every single day. - But they're getting really obsessed with about it. - Like getting really like, it's getting way crazier than I expected in terms of the amount of, like, thought. I just, I don't know why I didn't think that, like, men pay that much attention. - Did you think it's a new thing? - I think it's 'cause, no, I just think it's 'cause, like, my exposure to men's diets has been mostly, 'cause I've, I've never really been in, like, a long-term relationship, so I don't, like, watch many eat outside of, like, when I go on, like, dinner nates most of the time. - Which is, like, that real, like, that's that of a whole different diet. - Right, this is like, it's that thing of, you know, how people lie about who they are in the early months of day day, whenever, like, dinner nates are a great, no, or just not lie about, but just, like, project the best version of them. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - So, whenever, like, dinner nates are a very funny, farce, right? Like, I remember when I first, when I first, my first day with my wife now went to, like, a Korean restaurant and she, like, I ordered the tofu. I was like, I think of the tofu and a-- - Right. - Shandy. - Did you want? - And I was, and then she ordered the pork and a beer and I was like, I'll have the same, it's her. - But that's how you knew she was doing it. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - My fiancee, I asked him if he wanted to come into the friends with family, I have a little bit of a door. Like, literally, like, the first night. - That's it. - We've never met, that's the first date. And he was like, I don't know, we're just getting to know each other. Like, I don't know if, like, oh, like, it's sit down, like, we don't know. No, so he was said no. He was like, I'm not gonna go. And I was like, it's too much. He was like, yeah, I was like, can you believe? Anyways, he might-- - I love, I love, well, I usually think, like, the guys I did usually aren't paying, they're not foodies. So, I'll take them to restaurants and, like, open up their worlds. - That's cool. - And that's fun. I like doing that. - That's fun. It's always nice to-- - Well, I like taking dates to places that I go a lot because then I feel like the staff is kind of, like, in a way, like, looking out for me, like, on my side. - Oh, yeah. - I used to live across from Frenchette and that's how I met Emily from the Vodora. And I would just do back-to-back dates there. - But don't you feel like they're judging you? - Oh, yeah, they're not. - No, but after when they would tell me, they'd be like, "That guy's an absolute no." - Yeah, but that's why it's fun. They're your friends. - They're asked to tell you that that guy's a no. - If you're friends with them, yes. Like, this is people-- - You've got your friends telling you. - These are people that you see, like, like, if you have relationships with these people, like, they, I love if someone tells me, like, "Oh, he didn't tip well." - Yeah. Chemistry is self-evident, and I also think that, I don't know. Everything is plain to see in in the open. So, yeah, I need witnesses. - Witnesses. - That's nice accountability. - Mm-hmm. - Like, I like that. - Well, and also they can help out. Like, you know, I'll go to Elias, like, if I really like, I'll take him to Elias. Oh, my God, I shouldn't be saying this on the phone. I don't know, like, my name's getting out. - Now, there's no, but what I like is that then, like, the waiters will come over and be like, "You got the most beautiful date in the house." (laughing) Like, you know, they're like, they're my wingman. - Absolutely. - I love that. - Yeah, they pump you up a hundred percent. - A hundred percent. - Speaking of that, you're saying that your thing is, do you think that ever, like, when you go to date, you wanna see next year partner? - No, I think, like, I've been in two altercations with New York City restaurants. I won't say, like, which, that, like, - You can say what? - No, I won't say. - What's that of altercations? - Well, it was like an argument with like, you know, where it's like, there's space to set on the same side of the table, but they're like, no, you can't set on the same side of the table, and there was no one else there, and you wouldn't be anything on anyone. - They won't let you do that? - And I just, like, I think that, like, birth rates are falling and, like, people are single longer, and, like, we just, like, need to find love, and you should let couples sit on the same side of the table. - They're like, I love seeds. - They're like, that restaurants won't let you do that. - I won't say. - Weird. - Definitely, I do remember one time I was eating at Friend Chat I was on a date, and I was sitting across the table for my date, and, like, halfway through the meal. He was like, wait, can I just, and then he went to sit next to me, and, like, moved to his food, next to me, and I was like, that's so cute. - Yeah, I don't know if you want to look at them. - No, I think it's sweet. Like, they just want to be closer. - I like both. - Like, that's adorable. Both are good. I don't, I don't have a personal preference, but I do think it's, like, what-- - It can be cozy though. - No, no, no. - Talk to Japan about that. - Like I said. - Exactly. - It's your mother. - Exactly. - But I was listening to NBR, and they were doing fresh air. They were talking about the meal, diamond cover band movie. - Oh, yeah, with the Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. - Yeah, what a spank move. - Song's on blue. - Yeah, song's on blue. - Song's on blue, yeah. And so the director was talking about the chemistry between the two of them and he was saying, like, they built their chemistry, rehearsing the songs, sitting side-by-side on a couch. And he said, like, you know, if couples are trying to, like, you know, do some couples therapy or, like, get to a better place with intimacy, like, they should just, if instead of sitting across from each other, facing each other, that's, like, so confrontational. But then if you're sitting side-by-side and you can kind of, like, deal with your things, like, yourself, but alongside someone. And I didn't think that that was very powerful. I think there's something, I think it's very romantic. - I feel like I sit next to my partner more often than I sit across from her. I'm like, at dinner, I get to, like, look at your face. - But I do love it. - Like, I sit on the couch or sit in bed and, like. - I do love to be at, like, like, a Bemelman's bar, type situation where you're, like, next to each other, - In the corner with the, yeah. - Yeah, yeah. - It feels like a super romantic, for sure, yeah. - So to wrap up the pod, we always do, like, a little shout-out thing. So I'll start, and then you guys think of stuff that you wanna shout out. So I just came from Miami. This is kind of lame, but we got this standard. It's so nice. I'd never been, and everyone said it was so nice, and it's just not my type of thing. But I have the best time. I don't even like, like, swimming and beachy type of stuff, but I just chilled so hard. And it was really, like, such a nice vacation. And, yeah, thanks, Irene, for getting us a hotel. We had a great time. And also shout-out to. We went to this place, Komodo. - Of course. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah, absolutely that. - Ash, it was, like, you gotta go to Komodo. - Yeah. - They were gonna surprise for you. And they came out with a, like, a dragon that, like, shot smoke and flames in both of this desert in front of us. It was really impressive in the middle. - I'm close to the spectacle. - The dog, I mean, the dog has been shot out. - We didn't eat because we were going to Sunny's afterward. But we did, we left and we ran into DJ Khaled and vibes cartel. So it was so sick. - Is this Joe's hat, no? Is it for Miami? - Oh, yeah. - Hell yeah. - You're so, like, a glow. - I know. - Like, you're a Miami glow. - Yeah. - Mr. 305 over here. (laughs) So, Kimmy. - Okay, I'll give a quick, like. I think two restaurants in New York that I think are way better than they need to be. Kiko, which is actually not to Paul's, Possibleanka, Sasha's former employer, that's been all the way almost from the West Side Highway. I think that place is just, like, incredible. - Yeah. - Like, the Krispy Rice with the, like, lobster on it and they, like, pour the curry and the Szechuan- - And the Chittaman Tradolicious. - Yeah. And, like, you know, a place is bomb when, like, you order, like, a side salad and it's just, like, actually memorable. - Oh, yeah, just so it is better. - Yeah, like the cashew, like, it was just everything there just. the Yuzu and Shizu cocktails, yeah, everything is really great and you can get a reservation there. Yeah. And I think it's just phenomenal. And I also think the other place that's just so hidden and like kind of a secret restaurant is Farah. If you don't try Becca, where this like secret NSA building is, it has no windows. Oh, the scariest building. The scariest building directly across from that is a secret restaurant, Farah, next to Tara, which is their like tasting menu. Yeah. And Farah just is like this has a few things that are the crispy rice with like underneath it like hidden scallops. Yeah, I love crispy rice. So right, Yul's I love rice. I'm from Laudamarca. And then they also have this like one like absolutely like seductive like shrimp robyoli that's like in broth and it's just it's to die for. So anyways, shout out to both of those both of those places. And then also I'll say one final shout out. Yeah. Um, I heard a rumor that doubles the Caribbean restaurant from like fast casual from him against it is opening in New York. Oh. And I'm really excited about Caribbean fast casual. The idea of being able to eat like a plantain in the middle of the day is to me like really exciting. Well, you just don't want to go to Brooklyn. They have that in Brooklyn. I bet they do, but they should open it in my mouth. Yeah, I guess they're going to. Um, gentrify it. Yeah. Yeah. So anyways, I'm excited for, for, you know, maybe for, for doubles to open in New York. Um, yeah. Caribbean food in New York. Yeah. Um, I'll shout out Connor out of Mickey industry season four. It's so good. It's so, which is in Kumar's in there. What? Kumar from Harold and Kumar. Oh, Kalpenn. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, what? Um, yeah. It's, well, it's just so good. Um, yeah, lots of new cast members. Um, Ken and Shipka, um, Sally, but yeah, um, but many other, I mean, everyone from the original cast is killing it. It's just a very fun and crazy show. And it's just so impressive. That the two of them, like, created this world and it's grown so much. And they're just, like, such cool guys too. Very the New York radical. And that was really fun. Um, funny guys. Like, I, I think it's like just a testament to what chillers they are that, like, created this world, where I love that, like, everyone in, like, everyone involved in the show, like, got married within a year of each other too. Like, yeah, they don't seem like so on the up. It's like awesome to watch. Um, we miss Robert. Uh, sure. Yeah. I mean, yeah, it is what it is, but it's just an epic show. And like, it's very cool to see something that started almost like, it was like, doomed in a way. It came out like during COVID. Yeah. And everything's like gray. And it's like, what's this? Yeah. Yeah. And it's like kind of pressing and intense and like, it looked like it was going to be bad zooths, but it turned out to be so amazing. Yeah. So yeah, shout out the creators of industry, um, making Conrad for doing something very special, which I think the whole world will be excited to watch in the coming weeks. Awesome. Well, that was. Magic noodles are zero-calorie, slime-like noodles made from konjac root. They don’t break down in the body and were reportedly linked to Kami’s sudden eight-pound weight loss over six weeks when eaten daily with salmon.

You can buy magic noodles from stores like Happy Grocery or Westside Market. They are also available in various forms, including marinated or flavored versions.

A baked crab handroll is a warm, rice-based dish with crab, wrapped in soy paper, typically found in sushi restaurants in LA such as Nobu or Katsuya, and also at places like Better Place.

Chinese chicken salads are rare in New York, though they are now appearing more frequently, often labeled as 'Asian chicken salads.' They are popular in LA, where they are commonly known as 'Chinese chicken salad.'

They discuss supplements like iron, B12, collagen peptides, and adaptogens such as lion's mane. They also mention peptides and a German beet syrup iron supplement, with Kami noting it helped with her partner’s bruising.
