Call of Cthulhu: The Edge of Darkness #4

The transcript depicts a tense segment from a Call of Cthulhu actual-play podcast. The investigators are in a haunted house, preparing to perform a ritual to banish a demon that has already claimed lives. Their preparations are interrupted when a dangerous, wind-like entity attacks from the attic. In a dramatic confrontation outside, Major uses an elephant gun, spending almost all his character's luck to successfully hit the fast-moving creature, though it retreats wounded. The group then fortifies the house, specifically nailing shut the attic hatch, and changes into silk robes for the ritual. As midnight arrives, they light a fire, set up a camera to document the event, and begin chanting the necessary Latin phrases around a sarcophagus, armed and ready for a final confrontation with the awakened entity. The atmosphere is one of high tension and dark humor as the characters brace for the ritual's outcome.

[Music] Hey, Cox! Are you looking for a D&D podcast with actual stakes? A world where every decision the cast makes is met with consequence? Then journey to the world of Tharia on Dungeons and Randomness. We're an actual play podcast with over 14 years of stories and our newest arc, Frostborn, was created with new listeners in mind. Check out Dungeons and Randomness wherever you get your podcasts and join our incredible community for the adventure of a lifetime. Three past the dragon's head and seven to the right of the twisted snake. You meticulously count the tiles on the floor. It's taken you three months so far and you've only made it a few hundred meters into this ancient tomb. But if your name isn't Salazar Lombardo, greatest tractor-summer in the six kingdoms, no other person alive could have made it this far into this deadly tomb of horrors. You confidently make your way forwards. Safe in the knowledge that you've cracked their code. But as you take a step forwards, for fat in the corner of your eye and engraving of a two-headed goat, that wasn't in your notes. Your foot comes down and there's a click from the pressure plate beneath it. Have you miscounted and fallen prey to one of Cobra and the snake emperors' traps? Or are you on a mystery quest? And welcome everybody to Call of Cthulhu and the Edge of Darkness. Previously, a group of intrepid investigators have collected all of the materials they need to put Rupert Maryweather's demon to rest. But in that process, it seems the creature has awoken and gone on to kill like em. Will they complete this ritual or will they die like everyone else? Time is passing. You're getting all this stuff set up, basically fairly good to go and the sun goes down. You are now past the edge of darkness. It is now darkness outside and you hear a like a scrabbling around upstairs in the attic. And then this like oosh of wind and like a high pitched squeal of scream. The sounds like it has blown out of the attic and has gone off into the woods. Oh god, this is so shit. You then hear someone screaming, which is very abruptly just cut off. If you can make me a hard, hard listener, maybe someone who has like good up. Oh, I got 16. I got 16. Oh, I got a mega success. Okay, that scream. Hard to pinpoint, but it sounds a bit like that guy that fled from the building earlier. What the fucking house? The Got him. Good. Wait, did the monster can leave the house? No, no, no. Would he trip on the greasy pool? Maybe, maybe it's like, ten hunt people that have been in the house. That's not a bad idea. I thought it was barely hanging on with deer like when we last saw him. And he's coughing up his guts right proper. Well, Alan obviously died in a horrific way down in New Orleans. And also, we know that blood is gone out because it killed all the Mrs. Worser face. That mug fart, mug fart, ff. Fierce. And the badger mold, whatever was dead outside. I'm wriggling. Badger mold. Wait, is this a good time to work in the attic? Oh, my goodness. What a brave suggestion, Mr. Miggies. Mr. Miggies, why don't you go over there? Mr. Miggies, fast. So, I'll never wonder like yourself. So, unconsciously to put yourself forward. Oh, because I'm really afraid of ice. Major, you need to hold your gun on the door. I think I will hold the ladder for Mr. Miggies. I've got a gun as far. I'll have a quick look around, really quick. Before that thing flies back. You'll listen up for the flapping of wings or whatever that thing is. And yeah, I'll scurry up the ladder really quick. Cool. So, you open up the hatch. It's like the heavy one hatch again. I got the dust in one hand. And I'm left in there. And I'm outside the house with the elephant gun. Cool. It is super, super, super dark without. Now that it's darkness outside as well, you need a source of light to be able to see the. Can I have a torch from the fire? Or I can go up behind you. I've got the torch and I'm going to have to. Okay, sure. Sure. So, you fully up inside the attic? Yeah, just tell me how quick you look. You lift up the hatch and there's no noise from in here at all. And something going up and poking around. You've got Archie who's illuminating the whole place with his torch. And yeah, there is like a bunch of kind of clutter. And things dotted around up here. Random junk. It doesn't look like it's been super used. There's a couple of bodies of animals up here. All with the same punch hole in their chest. Like a dead fox. Dead Badger Mole. Any weird artifact runs anything of that elk. There's nothing that you'd like super hard notice on the edge of the like the trap door going back down. Is the exact same sort of engraving that you would see outside of the house. How much is that okay? Oh. Can major. Can you give me a listen roll? No. I can't hear anything. I must have been, you know when I find that bloody elephant gun back in cartoon. It's the number of my hearing. Oh god, that thing will absolutely definitely anyone nearby. Well, it is the last second that you hear this like, high pitch screaming noise coming streaking through the air. And you can almost make out it's like a spiral of wind has torn through the trees and is blasting back towards the house. I'm going to open fire. I'm going to point into the center. Get out of my way. I'm going to do your best. Stand firm. No, no, no, no, no, no. Time for us. Don't try to pull the pants away. Walk forward. I will need a brand new pair of shorts after this. I'm going to give it one more. Give me, I need an extreme success to hit this thing in the dark. Yeah. It's basically invisible flying through the air at high speed. 33. So I need, I guess, a 12. Yeah. So let's push that. Could you spend a shit on a wall? I'll look at it. 21, I'd have to spend. You have so much luck, bro. So that does use 21 of my luck. Yeah. I'm doing it. Oh, hell yeah. That's kind of fucking killed a bit. Session over. Don't worry about the bristle guys. The gun was the arse. Yeah, the gun move just, yeah. Get the MLG rather air the reddy. Get back inside. It's coming back. So you just spend the luck and hit this thing. That's it, yeah. Great. You can roll with some damage. No, okay. We're involved getting a new die. It's an exciting moment called a completely, when you get to roll damage. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ordity. So it's 3d6 plus 4. I mean, for context people watching and listening, like we have 10 HP-ish, right? Yeah, like 9 to 11 is average HP. I've got 2d6 plus 4, damn. So much damage. Well, this is the take down, runny Rhino. Well, all elephants. Of course. The titular elephant gun. 4 plus 6 plus 4. It's 14 plus 4 is 18. Okay. 18 damage. Pretty good shot. Yeah. He's still got it. Still got it. No, I could shoot a nat's penis. Oh, I got 100 yards off a door mat. Oh, fuck my life. Right, kaboom. Anyone in the house? You have heard the sound of this gun. And it is crazy loud. And a really high pitched, like, scream this intense, like ear piercing, high pitched wine over noise that you guys in the attic have definitely heard this as well. Always the extent where like the building shutters. And now this thing flies straight at you major. Like directly, like it is frozen in mid-air. And now this swirling gust of wind is coming. Serene. It's been an honor, sir. Everyone is so stupid. It's been an honor. Yeah, I very much get out of the attic. Yeah, you guys are hurrying down. Yeah, you guys are. Yeah, you guys are. Yeah, you guys are. What's the time zone right now? Maybe nine, ten o'clock. I didn't find close to midnight. Yeah, I was super lucky. I was just like, "Do some knitting!" I. five second barrel of it, right? Cool, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That was just one barrel. Damn! It's two shots. Okay. Oh my god. Bang! 71. That's a miss. You got still got quite a lot of luck. That's a bad miss. I just, I just drained a lot. You could push it. Or push it, yeah. You could push it. So, I don't think. Right, I will say, if you push it. It's gonna be. Yeah, I just don't think it will. Yeah. You will be able to push that. I think this is. You're not supposed to be pushing. Right. Especially if you're like wrestling it or grappling something. There you go, my. but shooting is weird, right? How much do I actually need? I can use that the rest of my luck here. I need an extreme. So, I need 12. And I rolled 71. It's literally like a view guard. I got 59 left. Is that enough? So, 59 plus 12 is 71 exactly. Is it exactly. Oh, I don't know what luck. Don't let go to zero luck. Do it! I thought it was fair. What if I. We've been so good at collecting all the notes. Yeah. And I'm a brooding topspin. You should have known it. Are you supposed to be a marksman? You know, in the King's Earth. What does zero luck have any effect with it? If you don't have any luck to spend. Oh, I promise you. In the upcoming stages of the game. (Laughter). you are going to be taking luck rolls. And that just means it is a instant failure. That would come up. I mean, I think this is a great decision. You've done a great. You've made it. What made you would do? Absolutely. That's his way of saying it. It's perfect. You have the exact right amount. Yeah. Kaboom. This thing. freezes a few. like literally a few feet away from you. You could roll me some damage. One. one. One! Oh, no! What? Seven damage. Oh my god. Oh, I was like, in this video, guys, we hit something. It just says immuted. Yeah! Oh, no, I'm using the wrong damage time. Yeah. It only takes psychic damage. No way. You just wrote triple one. Wow. I think this is saying something. I've used all my luck on my new tips. Your luck is gone. Never wrote all my days. Gwaka Moli. This thing is frozen. of fraction in front of you. I want a sanity check. And then you decide what you want to do as this swirling mess. That was a sanity check of three. That's an insane sanity check. Cool. You. do not really care. Roll a. just take one. one sanity loss. What a badass. Major is. Major is pretty gauded, man. He's so badass. He's just thinking about his like tidy little boy shorts. We've covered him loud. He's folding it out. And then it's pretty stuff-. and he's just like, "I'm just gonna see you bloody swallowing." From the top of his ass, he's actually chatted. And then bottom off is just fucking amazing. And then it raining off. And then I love that. Me high socks, ever fucking guy. Just fucking boob. Just smoke it. Yeah. That's not what I'm looking for. Waka time! Waka no! Yeah, you. Yeah, you managed to get back inside. As you slam the door shut, and then head to your third. against the house shakes. Dust comes down. Wood kind of creaks a little bit. And then you hear again this incredible high-pitched, like, squeal scream. And then it fly around the house multiple times. And then into the attic. It sounds like it's crashing from surface to surface. And then it all goes silent. Did the Major make it over his trap in the kitchen? Oh no! This is 100% where I would say, "Make a lock on me." "Make a lock on me." Oh no! Oh no! Oh no! No, not the trap. I think you did, like, so well, that you do slip over. This is like the greasy, the greasy fall. That you slip to the ground, and it's a real struggle to get inside. But you did stall this thing out. And so you were not. It's not the most elegant return. No, no, it does not look super. super cool. From your guys perspective, you just see him just firing his gun at random and then staggering back inside. So you don't see him looking like a badass. Yes, yes. And porous to get twice. But you definitely did a great job out there. Oh, did you make it? Did you find anything good up there? That was very dangerous. The windows open up there, which makes sense how it can leave the house. Because the window doesn't have one of those. what do you call them, rules and marks above it. But Major, what are you finding your gun at? What are you doing out there? There was a thing. It was a sort of shape. I think the entity, or whatever it is, has gotten loose and. feesting on local religious peasants. There was a rumor of one of those beasts. when I was down in Peru. They were called in the "Trupa Carb". Oh, yeah. There's a goat's nest. I think it might be one of those. Did you hit it? Did you shoot it? I winged it. You winged it? I didn't. I wouldn't have knocked out any of it. Oh, how I sit down. Do you know, do you want a couple of kids coming at me? Really? I almost had to draw my saver and take it down. Good, but you know. I thought I'd save a bit of a saver for another day. I think it can't get into the house because of the rules. There was one on the trap door up into the attic. So long as that thing is shut and the doors are closed, I don't think it can get in the way. I wish you'd figured this out before I went outside. I'm really putting it in there. So, do you think we should do the ritual in here where it's safe? Yeah. Okay. And did you think it's. No, we don't want to do it outside in the garden. We're only evening. We're not in the mess of it. No, we're really major. Are you okay? I feel like you're quite frazzled after that experience. Well, I'm feeling a bit funny, actually. Okay. Well, like something's missing. Yes. That's like what? Like, I'm sort of, you know. You're a Julessepa. Yeah, I just. I don't feel like confidence has gone for some reason. Okay, well, let's give you a cup of tea and let you rest up. I also do need to change my shorts very bad. Oh no. Speaking of which, we should probably put those nice silk robes on, right? Yes. Ah, yes. Yeah, we can do that. Actually, we finished our final preparations then. Yeah, is there any last prep? Because it's going to be uneventful until you guys begin the ritual and you. It's going to be a tense, just waiting for midnight to come around. Can I take some of the lumber, whatever down the stairs and some of my tools from the kit, wherever, and try nailing some boards into the hatch, into the attic to like. Yeah, there's more room if it's trying to beat against the hatch or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 100% you can. That is. Super duper simple. I'm not even going to get a dice roll out of you because you've got great sort of mechanical repair and stuff like that. Yeah, this is. You are well versed in doing some handy work around like this that you can easily. Yeah. I'll leave one door good for us and the rest like. Bink, bink, bink, bink. That works very well. Any other prep thing you guys need to do? Oh, I miss mingles would finish getting the fire ready. Cool. I think we're all good. We talked about maybe getting the film ready just in case we have it on slide. We did not turn it on. We turned it tripod to film as well. I could set up the camera in the corner. Yeah, just like. You can't see the CCTV camera. I'm trying to find angles. We're going to smash the demon. I need to film it. Like that would be crazy not to film it. Yes, yeah. And don't make for a regular phone footage if we hold that. Absolutely. Wow. Okay, I'm love that. And yeah, I guess that's. Yeah, we're changing to the ropes. Yeah. Can I reload my elephant gun or is it. Is it Dragon? It's fucked. No, you would have brought. am I with you? Yeah, you'll find. Well, good stuff. I'm fully prepared then. And you're going to be on guard. You're. You're going to be the watcher of my. Yes, I think you two should have. A gun. you know, loaded on by your side. I have my pistol ready. But whatever you do. Whatever happens. Do not stop the chanting. Of course, I'll. Yes. You know, you might hear some strange things. Especially, you know, if I start tussling with the fella. they'll be some grunting. They'll be some scumling. But I'll cut that polybacet off you. Don't you worry. Don't like coaxed steel, you know. Let's startle do it. Tell them always they don't lock it up. It's very usual, me, to having you here. Thank you. Welcome. That's what I'm here for. He's a bit crazed, but it is. You know, this is really. turned us into a proper unit, you know, military. There we are. We're doing great, team. Are you okay, Mr. McGon? Mr. McGon? I don't really know. I'd like you to give your feared promotion actually to Sergeant in this case. Sergeant. Miggen's. Really? Oh, Willie Sergeant. My big Willie. I feel like he's done well. Maybe you could have a lance corporal, bro. That's a little maker of our team. Mr. McGon's, of course, honorary. and we're not allowed in the military now. Well, you know. It's fine. I wouldn't want it anyway. It's just boys, things. This is like Dad's Army banish. It's like. a black addon like banish is a spirit, yeah. So between you, you have two pistols and this elephant gun. You have got your robes. The projector is set up kind of illuminating one wall. There's a roaring fire going, which looks like it'll happily be. be going for a long time. You've got a big stock pile of wood. You've got this cancer of gasoline. Is there anything else in this room? Yeah. immediate to hands that you need. - I'm gonna be holding them with our notes and journals. - Yeah, so you don't have a weapon? - Well, I'm gonna be listening to any, do you wanna take this instead? 'Cause you know how I feel about these things. I don't really like 'em. - Really? No, it's not the time for an ethical dilemma. Come on now. - I just pretend it's a pitch, you know something. - I don't wanna kill a pigeon. I feed them down at the park. - Well, they're lovely creatures. - You don't have to use it. Just keep holding it to protect me and protect you. You'll be fine. - Okay, honey. - I need to do the journaling and the noting and all those womanly things that I'm doing. - Okay, I'm terrible. I am never sure to come for my life. - Me either. I don't like 'em. - That's fine. I'm sure Archie and Dagey will help you. - Yes, yes. - Never. - Have a little kiss and then pull up your baby. - My baby. - I'm not darling, 'cause as you coach, shit. - I'm a wha- - I heard that. - I guess I, we talked about it but the sarcophagus on the floor is. - Yeah, so you have a big cleared area in the center of the floor of this room. A bunch of supplies can have dotted around. And yeah, you are basically all good. - I'm like peeking out of the window to see where the moon's at. I've like nearly there. - Tucked the pestle into my little handkerchief pocket in my cardigan under my robe. And I'm holding a wrench and the powder in one hand. - Okay. - Very good. So all of you can have a copy. And there were six. - Yeah, there's enough copy for everyone to have the chance. They can all charm. - Copy the one focusing of the charm. And so anyone will at any point, I'll happily let you kind of have a go at jumping in. There might be a dice roll involved from a pure mechanics point of view. - Cool, okay, so there's a clock. That works apparently that gyms. It's fucking amazing that it's still on time after 50 years. - Yeah, yeah, God. - I should have only looked, I'm taking from the house. This clock is amazing. It's actually like three o'clock in the morning. You guys miss the racial vibe more than time. - This clock is fun. - No, yeah, the clock gyms, I don't know, you brought a clock in from. - I imagine you made you have a pocket watch. - Yeah, in the really cool backpack, there's one built into a. - Built into a spong. - So yeah, that you're watch gyms signalling its midnight. - What are you doing? - I guess we would kind of gesture to arch you to begin the drawing on the clock out and I start drawing around the sarcophagus. - And I think we'd all begin to chant together the Latin phrases that we found. - And fire going. - The fire is roaring. - And well-chanting, I don't know how much of this dust we have, the appeared dust, but when we see as a fof or the other one, I will sprinkle a little bit of dust in the middle of the circle just in case. - Okay, so you need to throw it into the fire? - The fire, I've brought. - Oh, I do the burning dust in the fire, but the dust of make things appear. - Oh, okay, cool. - Yeah, burn the dust that needs to be burned for the ritual. - I also, you know, kind of a bit of tau-compatix quite sweaty in here, but I'm not sure if you should put in town your old greasage or a sly situation. - It's sort of squeaky down there. - Yeah. - So you begin this chant and you can hear like a gentle, like cool breeze outside, it's still like a fairly pleasant summer's night and, but this house is so dark and as you begin chanting, it just feels that this place is an evil, an evil place. This is like terrible things have been happening here and you chant away and then the scrape of chalk across floorboards as you begin to draw this large pentagram style symbol with this golden sarcophagus in the center of it. Every now and again, the room is illuminated in like a giant flash of green as handfuls of this brown powder are thrown into. - These are the bioplasts, the leds of these chemical reaction and like these gouts of smoke sort of below up through the chimney but the flashing towards you guys is absolutely surreal and you can hear like the house kind of like creaking and shuddering as you do this. But suddenly over there, you can hear the sound of like kind of like an animal upstairs is like scratching at the floorboards, moving around up there. It doesn't sound like the, when you heard the thuds of the creature, it sounds smaller like a raccoon or a, a, a, a, a badger mole or something like that. Kind of moving about. - I think while chanting, we would all kind of catch and glance eyes and we're kind of nod towards the major to just have his big elephant gun at the ready but we'll kind of continuing the, - Continuing to get the, we kind of communicate through eye, eye words. - Cool. Yeah, so you keep going and this continues on for about 10 minutes. You finish drawing this pentagram and it looks perfect. It is very good. Oh wait, you've got, you know, art skills, don't you? You have an art. - Do you know what? - My art and, well, film is kind of my art and craft. I don't know, but under art, if, do I do it as film? - I'll have to leave it just, yeah, you can just give me a roll on there. - It's like, same design. - Yeah. - I think that encompasses create my creative. - Well, you, you, you mark on the floor where people have to stand. - Exactly, you're very true. - It's time to this circle. - 35, that is a pass, yeah. - Cool, yeah, right, you've got this, this symbol drawn. This is, this is looking great. - Thank you, everyone. - I mean, chance, chance, chance. - And the podcast listeners lose to give thumbs up. (all laughing) Major is giving up thumbs up. - So maybe about, like, 10 minutes or so have passed. And, after another big flash of this green, you can, you can smell burning. It smells like burning is coming from the other room in this building. You're in kind of like the kitchen area and in the sort of more like living room area. You get like this waft of like wood smoke is coming towards you guys. And you can all smell this like pretty, pretty vividly. - And guy would like gesture towards art. She like, going, going to have a look, you know, not, not to the door and be like, do you want to have a look? - Sure. - That's my job. - Okay. - I mean, I'm happy to follow your online. If you know, if you're just, I'm just a diver. - I'm just like, going, going, going, going, going. - Trend up, yeah, yeah, yeah. - Yeah, you're the watcher. - 'Cause you're finished drawing. - I got the dust. - Yeah, he's doing, when he's on dust duty. - So, I'm only, usually like, and you two like, I guess figure out what scene you two would go and look at it. - Yeah. - We're all chanting at the set. We're not saying a sandwich. - We're just chanting and looking and nodding. - Yeah. - It's like, like a weird mimeing. - Yeah, yeah. - You're in a silent movie? - Just very stealthily carefully moving, you know, to walled any, - No steps for any dormats. - Yeah. - Oh my god, a dormat. - A fucking dormat. (laughing) - Cool, yeah, you poke around through the house, and this smell gets like thick and thick, almost as if you were like, walking into a burning building. And you kind of look down on the basement. There was nothing going on. There was no, there was no fire. There's nothing but you can just smell this. Smell of burning. Whereas the Miggins is there both just like, chanting, chanting away. - So that's got a lot of spirit. - Yeah, I want my chalks done. I get my gun out, I think. - Yeah. - Like, yeah, we go into the troll. - You both went into like the other, the other room. Can you just do that for me please? - And I'm mouthed that you like, fire? - No, you're chanting so you need to do a dant and movement to mean fire. - Or do we not check, we're not chanting, I get we can start with. - Yeah, yeah. - Don't you feel warm, don't you? - Yeah, right, right, yes. - Honey Bunn, you're getting the word wrong. It's, bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu. - Can you give me a listen roll as you hear, 20 clean, which is a good one. - Oh, okay, right. So you hear Mr. Miggins just say, hey, you're getting the words wrong. But you are looking at him and he is chanting. He didn't say that to you, but you definitely heard. - You must have. - You say Cassandre T check. - You 100% will take a sanity check on this. - Oh, 49, actually passed. - Okay, cool. Yeah, you know that is, like that was a trick. - Yeah. - He did not say that. - And. - I'm gonna go like, foul my head down and I'm just gonna listen out for like, if, where people are moving around the room, but I'm just gonna try and concentrate on doing the chanting and just not look at him. - Cool. - Yeah, you are keeping your focus. Absolutely not distracted. You hear like creaking around upstairs again. - Like unless someone was to say something or alert me, I'm just not, I'm like, okay, there's gonna try and trick me. I don't wanna be tricked. - Okay, don't, great. So you guys have investigated downstairs. Everything's super. - It's no fire. No fuck. whatever and kind of when you see that almost in like an instant that like overwhelming accrued smell of smoke is just gone instantly just disappears and he gone for you as well I'm sorry I'm pointing back up to the yes point to the thing I think they were trying to distract us they must be trying to distract us you must we must stick to the ritual yes because I assume you two aren't chanting at the moment you're just sticking around yeah and I'm back in and resumed the chant if we can when we're in the lounge so you you head back up into this this room and the minions is still chanting away and this room feels like more you swear it was like bigger when you left it feels closer like darker than it was before and you notice like a big globd you like between like the cracks in the floorboards of the ceiling like something dripped down I want a look roll from everybody sorry major no no thirty three oh my lord I owe you 25 88 I failed thirty three so major you're you know fucking around with your gun a like a splat of something like lands on your kind of wrist your sleeve and you take two points of damage as this your skin begins to smolder and burn or should you see this happen and a similar thing happens to like the like a drip hits your ear it kind of splashes onto your neck and your ear is burning you can take two points of damage as well as this I like look up I'm like this is definitely some kind of like acidic substance and there are like little drips coming down from place in the ceiling if you pass your look roll you're absolutely fine I want a like a power roll or a constitution something like that to not like cry out to not let off let off a scream 82 fuck 42 I'm okay cool the major you you've suffered worse injuries in your time but like it is literally eating through your ear and you let out like a just a whale of a whale of agony and pain I think I'd run I'd run I don't know if I try and wipe it off or get some water do something to just like a chlorite it I think if I'm not keeping it together yeah so maybe you'll only done like a initial point of damage but as you get it is now burning yeah this genuinely hurts a lot is really not as it melts you might hear off yeah yeah I think it's like eating through a chunk of your ear is oh my god really you got Mike Tyson yeah this guy is Mike Tyson but you are able to keep going this is and now we're like aware of it can we like see where the drips are coming down is like a pattern to it or is it centralized and look at I don't want to get a drip on basically it's it's completely completely at random okay like it is not like someone is putting splodges here and there they are yeah almost like it's all over the places once just these correct where they're landing they seem to be like burning through the floorboards or not it definitely seems to be reacting with the woods not nearly as extremely as it did to is that too skin scratching still happening yeah there is still scratching and I'm gonna like it's like a table or chair I can get underneath from just like hardland leaf I don't want to get dripped on yeah there's like a ruined old table or something yeah yeah I think you got like the table that the projector is set up on that you can just sit under it move myself slowly I got my umbrella help my umbrella up okay great yeah yeah yeah yeah I'm sorry I'm lucky to do inside all the umbrella I don't think I don't think you need to worry about like I love the idea of you holding the umbrella of Mrs. Megan's like every now and again you might take another drip but you're like protecting her but yeah you're I got my pith hat of course I don't know if you should have got one in your shirt you ain't like under the hood like on top of the hood the image of the major is so fucking amazing like an old man in a pith helmet tight greasy shorts wearing a coat this road - Yeah, I mean, all of his going to the room. - I did just mean. - I did just mean. - It's a much smaller man. (laughing) - The thing is, shorts are still working. - Oh, yeah. - He's got a little short ride. - No, he's jumping into his pants. (laughing) - Okay, right, back in the room with my spooky, my spooky ritual. - Oh no. - Okay, you've been doing this for a good half an hour now. - Okay. - And the house shakes or jolts every now and again, and then you hear someone crying for help outside. - Please, please help me. - We're like catching each other eyes. I'm just like, - Please. - Lister Megan's is gonna be like, walking around like, - Please, let me help. - I'm like, Mr. Megan's gonna be shaking her head like, no, don't, no. - Okay. - What would that, what lesson roll? Can I make a lesson roll to see what I do here? - Hmm, give me a lesson roll. - That's a 60 and my lesson is 40. - This is definitely a person out there. This is 100%. This is not a trick. You heard a trick before. - I'm gonna-- - This is definitely person. - There's someone. - I'm gonna shove the red powder into Artie's hand. Tell him to point at the fire and I'm gonna run with my wrench in the dust. - Cool. - Jumping over the door now. - Okay, you, well we don't even need to necessarily get to that, you open the door and directly in front of you is this tarpaulin covered silhouette. Stood like a foot away from you and you can hear them crying. - I need your help. The monster is coming for me and can you make me a dodge roll maybe? 42 and my dodge, or bottom right, oh, 50 is my dodge. So 42, I make it. - Cool, like arm come up under this tarpaulin and they go to grab you but you are able to step out of the way. - This thing is heavily encumbered by this tarpaulin and slam the door. - Yeah, yeah you can. - I was gonna put the sanity roll on this because 47 and I have 67. - Oh great, slew's won. - Okay. - That's won. - And but that, you are pretty sure that was the tarpaulin that the body of Maggie McFurther was underneath. - I'm so sorry. - Don't need dirty dodge. - I'm so sorry. - I'm gonna run back and just like work really like, just get back to my chanting like, "Oh, oh, oh, spirit, do a soul." Yeah. - Yeah, this tarpaulin covered figure now is like hammering on the window. It is banging, it's still covered and it's like banging on the outside. - I'm not into the window and not into you. - Fine, I mean that's the, I would be obviously heading over and lining up. - Yeah, you can see, yeah, you're, it's-- - Okay, if it burst in, I'm gonna get it. - Give me an idea roll. - I don't know how many of them. 71. - That's the fail. You, so an idea roll is basically a roll against your intelligence and it's a way for me to impart some information that you might work out or might not. You realize you think this thing is gonna get through this window real quick. - Okay. - And potentially that can be bad but it is hammering away at it. - Okay, well, in that case, I just position myself protecting these two. - Yeah. - And I point to everyone to raise their guns in case, you know, this wouldn't do that. I can dig back over the dust. - I pass back that. - I pass you that and I take it. Are you using your gun? - Mrs. Miggins, if I put it out of his pocket and get to gun. - Oh, guns are Kim, man. - Oh, jeez. - I thought I did a movie. - Oh, I'm good for saying. - That's my movie move, I grab. - Yeah, I just got that for the powder I go back to doing the red powder. - I'm gonna put my fingers in my ears. - Okay. - Just 'cause if they're gonna fire their guns, it's gonna distract me from all the gun things. - Oh, for sure. - Yeah. - It's better for that. - I can't do that, but I'm kinda doing this. - I'm trying to make sure this, but I cover my ears. - And this is happening. This telephone and covered figure is like, - You're also here something like smacking into the other door in the house, the one that you nail, nail shut, I'm pretty sure. Something is like pounding on that door. - I quickly swing around and look at that. - That something is there. It doesn't sound like sort of as heavy as the top hole and covered creature. - We can't see through the, there's no window in the door. It's a solid. - You can get closer and if you really peer up next to this window, you can have a. - Yeah, yeah. - Cool, Rommie, a. - Soundtie roll. Not a soundtie roll, a spot roll. - 71, 60 as much spot. - Oh great, okay, well. Right up against this window, now I'll just let you roll soundtie instead. - 91. - 91. We've all tried many 90s, the session. - Perfect. You can lose a D4 of sanity if you like. - One, one, come on. - We get him in the second time. - You are like looking down at whatever this window that's right next to this door, you're trying to get like a good angle and it stops for a second. And then suddenly this dead raccoon slams into the window like an inch from your face, causing you to startle back and this thing is throwing its body full-pelt at the window or the building over and over again, just smacking into it. Like, its body is breaking as it does this. And just this third, third, third. I'll let you give me an idea, idea, or see if you can work out. So this is just roll against your intelligence. - 49, intelligence 40, shall I spend some, or shall I push it or spend some luck? - I'll spend nine luck to get an idea. - The weight of this thing flying into this like fragile already cracked window, you feel like this, it should have gone through this window. That window would have smashed. You think you could punch through this, but the weight of this kind of like raccoon, like aggressively throwing its whole body into it. And the window isn't even cracking more or anything, you're like, "Hmm, interesting." - I think I'll go up to the major then and just put my hand on him and I can speak right, because I'll just say that I'll be like, "Major, they're not breaking through, they're not breaking through the window, I don't think they're getting through. I think it's fine." - They're breaking through. - No, no, mate! - Come on, let's go! - It's probably got the elephant in here. - The eye communicate that to the major. - Don't shoot who the whites of their eyes, don't that's when I was always told. - Hold off until we see something inside. I don't think they're gonna break through major. I think we're okay. - Okay, well, keep your eye out, keep your eye peeled, peeled. - I'll peel it. - Like the sound of kind of the hammering of that raccoon pounding against the door, kind of dies down after a few minutes. And this top hole and covered figure who's bang on the window just stops and is just stood, like inches away from the glass, just looking at you all, even though his head is, it's entire body is covered in this big heavy top. And everything's kind of quiet a little bit. And you're about 45 minutes into this, this chunk running out of bits, is like the fire raccoon. - No, they're like, it's all kind of going, going, going. - Other than the little scratch up there as we hear in from the big thing. - They. - They have the big attic monster. - No, no, even the scratching has sort of died down a little bit. And then. Then you hear what sounds like a car pulling up to the house. You can see lights as if there's headlights kind of pulling up the driveway from where you are. And a car pulling up and a figure getting out and like calling to you guys. Hey, I managed to track you down. So you are here to steal my father's place. - Okay. - I run to the door. I pull the door open, are you? Get inside! - There you are. - Come inside quickly! - You hear a scream from upstairs and the sound of something just absolutely smashing around up there. I need. I need a hard persuade if you want to convince. - Inside now! - Convince Bertram. - You're persuading while you intimidating him, because you're wielding a gun. - I rolled a one. - Oh, shit. - Something, because when I was a kid, I used to sometimes he was naughty and I'd say, "Bertram, come inside!" - When he was playing, he was playing for dinner. - He tapped into that. - He'd be inside immediately. - Oh, yeah. - He was just like, "No!" - Oh, God, yes, yes, Major. - He runs in, elegantly leaps over the greasy tramp. - I just grab him as soon as he reaches out and get him inside. - Well, where do you think he can get there? - Yeah, no, I think with a crit, you can. - 100% he can make it. - If you want him to. - There's a wild animal out there, Bertram! - You risked your life to come here now! - Stay calm! We're nearly done! - What? - What the hell is going on? - Get down here and I'll stick him in the other room without that ritual going on. - Yeah. - Force him onto the floor. - He looks baffled and terrified. - What's that? - Someone, someone giving one of the sheets. Get him, Shannon! - Read this! - Sing along! - I guess he is also going to freaking do doing the chants as well. - Yeah. - Good luck Bertram! - Good luck! - So confused! - I'm still pissed! - He's gone all down! - I'm sitting next to me under the table. - You hear like a scream of like rage agony frustration from up stairs in the attic. - This thing kind of smashing around and the patch is beginning to like quake and quiver. - Splinters of wood are coming down where you nailed this thing shut from below. The nails are kind of poking down. - Can I try and like prop the ladder up to give it more support? - Yeah, yeah. Although the thing does open upwards rather than opening down. - Push it open! - Push the ladder open! - You such a Mr. Miggins move! - Oh, I'll help it down! - Do I have some rope? - Yeah. - Can I try some rope at the handle that holds the door? - Quickly pass him the dust again. I squirry up the ladder with his rope and I'm going to start tying the handle and. - Great. - 23. - Yes. - Like my metal one. - Okay, sweet. - Yeah, but yeah, you are able to tie that on like you're a professional. You can get this absolutely fast and bring it down, tie it into a space on the floor. This thing is pretty solid and the banging continues for a little bit and then just hard, hard stops. At which stage the banging from outside re-intensifies. You can see this figure of under the tarp all in. Not just throwing its body at the building anymore. It seems to be like scratching at the building itself. Reaching above this window and is doing something there. You can't quite make out what. - I think it's trying to get the room, the protective, the ward above the window. - Watch the boy Archie! - I'm the most want to stride up to the window and blast it. - Cool, yeah, give me a. - Give me a. a Kaboom roll. - That is a 30. - A 30. - Which is half my firearms. - A hard success. - Yeah, only sip. - You point blank range, shoot this figure with the. - Fries across the fucking lines. - I just turned to mist. - I don't even. - One? - Oh God. - Oh, six, okay. - Four, okay. - 15 damage. - I think even your base damage, even if you're old all ones, would have exploded. - It's over this thing. - Good. - Yeah, you. Boom, this tarp all in goes flying and just like flops do the ground in the yard. You can see, you've also blown this window out entirely. - Uh, oh. - I do want like a power roll from the charters to see if just the sound of this gun going off within a few feet of you. - Free. - I rode a 34, which is fine. - School, right, you were able to just keep going. You were able to keep like, that was loud. - I have my fingers in my ears for like the past 10 minutes expecting the elephant gun to go off at some point. - Any moment. And then from where you are, you can see like, off in the distance, this figure in, with this red, red shirt, kind of like heading towards the house. It's sort of like at a fair jog and it looks like they're holding something and are running directly, directly towards you. - It's the boyfriend! (laughing) - You're like reloading and re-stuffing ammunition. - Are you shouting that? (laughing) - I'll get him! (laughing) - I never won! (laughing) - Bang! - Okay. - All right, I want a hard success, 'cause it. (laughing) - It is real dark. - I'm fully back in, like, you know. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - The siege of Cartoon. - I'm on the floor. - This is a bad, this is more scared by the major. - I'm in the demonies, damn. - I promise you, the elephant gun does significantly more damage with the demon gun. (laughing) - It's like a different kind of way. - It's insane. - He is way scary. - He's on artillery cannon that you're just walking around with. - So I'm gonna need a hard success. This thing is like, at a lope. - 34, that's not enough when he's 30. - Like, boom, you hit this thing and it, like, wings him. And blows like a chunk out of its ribcage, but does not even break a step as it is continuing to run towards you. I have a, have a sanity check to see this thing. As it gets close, you can see it has this big hole in its chest. - But these things not going down. - I draw my saver. - Not worth it. - I can't. - Go to the front door. (screaming) (screaming) - Well, as you draw-- - Oh God, we have this demon on our team. (laughing) - It's so much better than their demon. - Oh my fucking god. - As you draw your, you know, you step back, I draw your saver, this thing is like, getting closer and closer and throw something through the window. - Oh my goodness. - And the body of this kind of like ancient chest smash dog just fuds into the middle of the room onto the floor. - Fuck that. - And this thing is like pounding at this open window, but it is not getting through. And then it begins to start like scratching at the thing above it. - After a few seconds, this dog begins to twitch. - Is it in the house? - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Can I start hitting it with my wrench? - Just f--. - Oh, 100%. - Yeah, I think beating it with a wrench. - Can we just check it on the ur burnard? What's his name, burnard? - Is he like just chanting that? - Oh, I feel like he's burning the thing. - How's he reacted to all of this? - I feel like he can make a sanity roll, which he has rolled 92. - Sorry, I can't send this part. - It's not a good way. - Not super. - But when you said watch him, I imagined me just pointing my two guns at him to keep chanting. (laughing) - And he's like chanting faster. - Yeah, I was like, keep chanting. - He's going to have a sanity roll. He looks as full. - He looks terrified. He's no longer really chanting. He's kind of mumbling and is just kind of like babbling. It's not-- - Okay. - He's not helping. - He's-- - He's-- - Losing his mind. Right, you can give 100% give me a melee roll on this. - Is it wayfush right now? - It's twitching. It's legs are beginning to move. - Can I throw it back on the window instead of hitting it with the bang? - Yeah, you can make me a some kind of grab. Grab a roll, throw roll. - Throw roll? - Yeah, make me a throw roll. - Okay. That is a 54 and I will spend 14 luck to get down to 40, which is a success. - 14 luck. - Okay. - Takes me down to 44. - Ooh, nice and low. - Yeah. - You throw this thing. - Just back out the window the way it came in. - But it collides with the win came in. - There's a broken open hole from where an elephant girl was fired. But red covered thing is like scratching it above the window. This dog just like bounces off of this open hole. - Skip it up, throw it in the basement, cause the door. - I like that. - Yeah, you can do that. 100%. You can launch it through the other room. So there was no door onto the actual basement. That was just a hole in the floor. But you can throw it into the front room of the house. After a few seconds, there is now heavy scratching and aggressive pounding against that door. It looks like that door could give at some point. And you know there's not a ward above that internal thing. It looks like it could get through it. Also the red-shirted figure who is right at the win, really close to all of you guys. Like their fingers are bloody and null. But you can see it's slowly like pulling chunks of wood off of this window frame. - Come on. - So I've been charging out the back door. - So you stepping out with your sword. - Well I thought I was sort of battle crazed. - Yeah, I think so. - I don't crazed. - I don't think it's really fun. - Okay, so this thing, it looks like it is ripping the lintel of this window down that it is able to interact with that for sure. If given a little bit more time, you think it could destroy it. - I can smash it out front the back door. - Ruff! You're all son of a bitch! You go off that! Stop doing that! - Cool. You, I think, I'll literally just let you have a free swing because this thing does not seem to even be trying to defend itself. It's not trying to stop. It is just going for this, this lintel is. - I love a free damage, D8. - Three. - Three. - Okay. - It's not an elephant gun, but I feel this point but actually, it's still quite a good one. - Yeah, it's actually not terrible. - Yeah, you hack at this thing and like, you're taking chunks off, but it's still going. You think in, like, around or it might be able to pull that symbol off. What are the rest of you guys doing? The Miggins is still just chanting away. - I'm gonna continue to chant under the table. - Well, I was gonna say, if I see him charging out, I think I follow, I take my two guns and I once he's swang out and I think I'll start firing on the chair guy. - Cool, yeah, 100% you can go out and fire. Light him up, baby. - So I've got a pistol and then there's another pistol. Who's he? Is that just the same thing? - Yeah, that basically, unless you've got something fancy, it was just-- - Just try to roll to see if I hit and then-- - Yeah, so if you roll to see if you hit with the first one, then you can try and fire more. You can fire with the other pistol, but you'll be rolling at a disadvantage. But you know, you've got six shots in each, or a special auto pistol, I don't think we specified. So first shot, pow! - 24 and it's a 40. - Great, so that is-- - Like, D6 damage. - Oh, you can get your dice back. - Let's do it. - Go on, lad. - Two. - Okay. - Right, do you want to fire-- - Yeah, I'm thinking I'm bang, bang, bang. - Yeah, so right, with, if it's like an automatic, or semi-automatic pistol, or even a six shooter, you can fire up to three shots, but it does get harder to hit. So basically, you're just rolling at a disadvantage with five more shots if you want to. So basically, you would roll two of the tens dice, and you take whichever one is worse. - Okay. - Both 30, 38. - Oh my god, okay. Well, we'll just remember that's one more hit. - Yeah. - Right, roll again. - That 96. - Okay, not a problem, roll again. - Uh, 92. - 92. - And again, yeah, you've got two more. - 98. (laughing) - See how this works now? (laughing) - 84. - Great. - Okay, yeah, the right, so you shot down. - Yeah. - And just, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. [BLANK_AUDIO] First two shots do hit, but then all the others. - They just know recoil management. - He just spied right up there. (laughing) - But you can know me in the other D6 with a damage for that second shot. - Three. - Three. - Ooh. You, so all of your shots at this range have hit realistically. And you have just blown chunks of meat out of this thing. And it definitely looks super debilitated where you've hit something in this arm. One of its arms is now limp, and it's doors like hanging down. And with one arm, it is still kind of attacking this sigil, but not having a great job. From inside, you hear a thud, thud, thud, a round upstairs, a high pitched screech, and the sound of it leaving the building. - Oh fuck. - The major. - You guys here, you were both stood outside. You hear it inside, and it's definitely moved out and is kind of doing a lap of the building. What do you guys wanna do? - Is a dog contained in a rune area that can it not get to us? - The dog is inside the building, and is a tacking and internal door that doesn't have a rune. - No, and it. - Can I grab the luggage case that has runes to protect the things that are inside it? Open it, Wade, and then try and get the dog in the luggage. - Oh my gosh, absolutely. - I love this. I will 100% let this happen. But this does involve you opening the door to. So I'm like, I'm opening the door, and I'm gonna try like bam, slam 'em in the luggage. - Great. - I can tell you the idea that you've got like a sick dog or something, that's how you would do that. - Right, I want some kind of combat role, and then. - What are you taking to the canals, all the vet? - That is a 10. - A 10. - Yep. - You open the door. - Open the door. The dog pulls back leaps straight at you, and in a very simple funk. (laughing) - Just fast in the straps. - Yeah, the chest is now kind of bouncing around a bit. But wow, yeah, you solved my dog riddle. - Yeah, brilliant. - Very. - I'm sorry, very, very. - It was the biggest, 'cause it had a ruin on the. - Yeah, there was protecting ruin. - Right, yeah, I'm absolutely lost. - This is big, this is big, it's like, "Who are you, okay, standing in the left chanting?" - Yeah. - Wow. - My big willy. - Oh, lovely family. - So. - Right, outside. You hear the scream of this thing flying around the building. It is done on lamp, and it sounds like it is on the approach. This creature, this play-d sure wearing. - Back inside! - Maybe. - Quickly archie back inside. It's coming around. - Well, I do exactly what he says. I'm not arguing with that guy. - Do you remember about the slippy floor? - Well, I didn't just stand in that way. (laughing) - Give me a lock, a lock roll, I think, it's fine. - A 100. - That is a big, (laughing) - You can't spend luck on this. Yeah, you step on this map and this half inch of grease. You just collapse to the ground. Major, you've seen. - You have to roll for how good my trap is. - Oh, well, yeah, yeah, roll for how good the trap is. - 94. - Pretty shit. - Yeah, exactly. It has not worked on any enemies, only friends. - There's only two better teams. - And acura roll, I see. - Yeah, so you've just seen Archie just absolutely like face plant down. Guns go skittering as he is slipped on your incredible bushcraft trap. - Okay, well I'm going to run into help him get up and push him in the door before me. And then I will turn to face. (screaming) - You could just boot me and I slide across the door. - Oh yeah! - It's like, he's like, what's the ice up for the face? - Yeah, like curly. - Yeah, like, fresh the floor. I also say you can get him inside, but you will then take an attack. - That's okay, I can take it. - What, here I see. - What, here I see. - My major. - My major. (laughing) - You could grab Archie, get him up, throw him inside and you turn as this kind of like swirling vortex kind of plowls into you. You can make me a dodge roll, but this is where we are comparing my attack versus your dodge. And so you need a better version of a success than I get. Which I don't think you're going to be doing. - I rolled a 23. - Ooh! - I've got two. (laughing) - Oh, look at that. - And this happens, can I go? Onto the vortex or something? - The sea, the sea just. - I. - Yeah, yeah, let me resolve the attack. - Okay. - And then we will see what happens. So it is a D10 plus D6 damage. - Ooh! - Uh oh. - Wait. - It's not bad. - Oh, it's five. Five damage. - Minimum roll. - No, no, it's, oh. So Minimum would be. - Oh, a D6 damage D10. - I see, that's not five. - Five. - Rot a two and a three. - Yeah. It could have been, how are you looking major? - That's insane. - I took more damage to getting hit by a fucking table. - So what happens to me, Tom? - So this is a major wound. - Yeah. - This thing, - Major wound, yeah. - Major wound did. - Major wound did. - I think, like, claws across your face. - Ah. - Like, like, this gigantic gash of these multiple, multiple claw strikes is horrific agony. Very, very painful. You're bleeding, particularly even blinded in one eye at this stage. - Jesus. - Do you want to blow the magic dust? - I would like to blow the magic dust. - Cool. I don't think I'm even need a hit roll, but I am going to need sanity rolls for anyone who is looking in this direction now. - Always look at the big bad. Always look at it. - He's right outside the back door. - He is like stood at the back door. The major prone on the ground next to him. - It's 69, and I only have 66 sanity. - Oh, I can use luck. - No, sadly not. - Yeah, I wrote a 32. - She's a pass. - Okay, right. - 47 I passed. - I wrote a 91. - Ooh, okay. - So, Mr. Miggins, you lose seven sanity. - Oh, God. - And it's only four for the major, but I believe you have lost enough that you are going to be going, going, going, going, man. - No, I'm not, I'm at 71 still. I've barely lost any sanity this game. - No, it was more Mr. Miggins, but, because if you lose more than five in one go, you can get temporarily insane. - Oh, okay, I'm sorry, I thought you was about Mr. Miggins. - Can you run me an intelligence check? So basically, if you can, so you want to fail this, because then you don't fully comprehend what you're looking at. - Fair to free, and my intelligence is 50, so I think I've made it. - Ooh, this is really bad. - So you can blow your smoke at the stick and you see something that breaks your mind. - I think he breathes in a bit of it. - Oh, God. - It is really what he put in. - I thought it was stuck it. - What the hell? What the hell? What even is that? - I'm gonna, you can roll my special, special what happens to you, Dice? - This is the best, this is for you to go through, Luke. - The special days. What does that see? What does that, that says? - Physical hysterics. - Yeah, you just start screaming. - We're screaming at the top of your lungs. - Like tearing at your hair, at your face. - I have stopped chanting. I'm, - 100% stopped chanting. - Constrabing my hair and pulling at it. Yeah. - I might even need like a power roll for Mrs. Miggins to keep chanting at this moment. If you, as yours like seeing. - Yeah, I didn't go and say and I was fine looking at it, but sure. - 98. - Oh. - Your husband. - I'm gonna have to dump luck on it, but I don't really, it's worth like I want to run after. - Basically, you, this is gonna make you stop chanting. You are seeing your husband, your beloved lose his mind. - I'm dumping, I'm dumping 38 luck. - Just keep it, keep it going. - Oh, don't just love this. - So strong willed. - That's fun. - It was ringing in your ears, the majors. Do not stop chanting. - I don't stop. - I'm just like, I like, peak up at it and then I'm like, oh fuck, though. - It's like, yeah, and he is streaming down your cheeks as you see, like your, just your husband is losing his mind. - Yeah. - As he looks at something that you can only half catch a glimpse of outside of the door. This, distended, yeah, you do not know where, what is a hand or, is that a mouth, these long, multiple tendrils coming off of a central, central form sort of each one ribbed by, by teeth and mouths. - I'd say I've probably dropped the sea dust on the ground that I'm just screaming. - Yeah, oh yeah, you are, you are basically out of this fight right now. - Yeah. - Have zero control over your character. - Yep. - Tom, would you say words can't describe the adequately the faceless thing with a thousand mores. - Yeah, it is unknowable what you are looking at. It is absolutely horrific. I will not try to describe it further. Right, Archie, you turn back. You see this shadowy figure standing over the major. Mr. Miggins is just next to you screaming. And this whole thing is just backed by Mrs. Miggins just chanting away in the background. - What's Burton doing? - Burton is just babbling away. Maybe he can be. - Is he gonna go in the channel? - Oh shit, he needs to have a list. - He should have a list. - Right? - But you didn't inquisitive young lad? - Yeah. - Oh, 34 isn't too bad. But even if you pass, you'll still be losing a D3. Or a D4 on this. You roll him a D4. - Two. - He's doing okay. He's not happy though. - He's loving it. - He's sweating. - Is he chanting? - Yeah. - He's like half as effective as a person. He's kind of. I've got a tally of how well this thing goes. And he's. - Is he in negative at this point? - No, he is helping. But not as much as any one of you guys would be. - Okay. - Right, it's over to Archie. You are seeing this creature above the major. What are you thinking? Where did the elephant gong go? - It is on the ground. - Can I get it? You see, like what's the thing? - I should pull me inside. - No, no, this is. You've just been. Your face has just been literally split open. You've dropped to the ground. - I'll give you. - Lady make an idea. - Roll very quickly. - Yeah, yeah, okay. I feel like I need an idea at this point. I could spend to get an idea. Do you think it's worth it? - I would say I would in this situation. - Right, I will spend 20. Hang on. - Just whatever your intelligence, oh yeah, you're not smart. - No, I'm not a dumb dumb. 24-luck. - Okay, right. Like you go to pick up the elephant gong and you remember like, oh shit, this was far, this empty. And you don't have ammo for it. - Yeah. - And so then you turn to something else and I will let you make a different plan rather than swinging the gun round, pulling the trigger and having a click is where that idea has saved potentially the major's life. - Okay, so Mrs. Miggins is under the table with the projector on it. Nighttreat film is incredibly flammable. - Nice. - So I grab the projector, I take one end of the film, I throw the projector at the demon so the film unravels. As the projector hits the demon's face, I throw the other end into the fire in the room, so it acts as a fuse. - And the film lights. - Oh. - And the projector explodes even fast. - Or is it the cursed film, maybe just say? - The cursed film. - The cursed film. Okay. - And it's like, it basically creates like a flaming fuse. I, you know, I'm just-- - Yeah, okay, no. I need, I'm gonna need some kind of dice roll on this one. It might be a throw or a luck or a-- - A filmmaking. - It's my filmmaking scheme. - I think that's a stretch. - It gets more film destroying. - Yeah. - Maybe. Give me a-- - I've got, I've got a pretty good throw. - You can choose, you can choose anything. Braw me some dice. - I'll do. - Sure, I'll do, I'll do throw. No. Can I push it? - You 100% can push this. If this goes wrong, the major is in heavy peril. - I rolled 64, I need 40 to throw. - Okay. - You need a much more play. - I could-- - I think we'll see what the push is. - Yeah, I wanna push. - We'll see. - Come on. - Come on. - I'm a projector. - 90. (laughing) - It's over with Kirk. - The major's literally cooked. - Are you the major? - I cooked. - Okay, right, I think actually how we'll handle this is I'm not gonna kill the major. You go to grab the projector, but in doing that, you actually turn it off. - Oh fuck, sake. Oh no. And all of a sudden, this intense high pitched screaming noise is in your ears again. Like almost definitely, this tinnitus wine, and you turn to the projector that is now projecting on the wall, horribly flickery illuminating this room. And there's this figure again, with their back to you. But this time it's not cutting away to anything else. They are like slowly turning to look at you. And you cannot describe the face that you have seen. I want a sanity roll. - 77 fail. - No. (laughing) - You gotta fail this intelligence roll. You have to fail this intelligence roll. - No, this is gonna be, this is gonna be really bad for you. (laughing) - I want you to roll. You're going to lose D100 sanity. (laughing) - I will let you roll it. - It's the greatest movie, the best movie of all time. - So I'm rolling and the number is how much sanity I lose. - Yeah. - Before you roll, what are you on? I'm on 67. - Okay. - Good odds. - Not the way we've been rolling today. - No, no, no. - Never nine. - Come on, come on baby. - Oh. - No, oh. - Zero. - Oh my god, wait, so if you roll another zero. - No. - Right. - It's not a hundred hundred hundred hundred. - Yeah, it has to be on the table. - Okay, okay. - So a zero is really good. - If you're on a zero, you are about to. - Right, there's a good explode. - Oh. - Okay, nine points of sanity. - Honestly. - Okay, okay. - It's insane. - That could have been way worse. - Oh my god. - That was so close to being a hundred points of sanity loss. - If you had lost a hundred points of sanity, I wish it was. It would have been amazing. But no, you lose nine points of sanity. You are going temporarily insane right now. And Mrs. Miggins, you just, you look over. And you can just see the projector is kind of like just showing, like just this page of the book that you had left it on. And it's not playing. But as far as you're concerned, Archie had just walked over, turned it on, and then he's slowly kind of walked towards whatever was projected. Like, and he's kind of like trying to like reach out to something and is absolutely, you cannot get his attention. He is gone. He is trying to interact with something that you cannot see. Like it's almost like he's having a conversation to the wall. - Oh my god, is it starting to, you know, when the old projector, when they froze frame, they burned the film. - Someone in the corner of the edges. - Oh yeah, it's gone. - I'm gonna get up, play a connection. - Oh yeah, 100%. Yeah, yeah, though. - I'm gonna get up and through the chaos of the scene, I want to run over and grab the rest of the powder from Mr. Miggins. - Oh, okay. Yeah, he's screaming. - And I can only want to left chanting or doing any of the ritual. - Yeah. - I'm just gonna dump the rest of the powder into the fire. - Sweet, okay. - Burn it all. Because I'm about to pass out, beat it and. I don't have any future to do, so I'm just gonna. - Scream the rest of the words and dump what is left of the powder into the fire. - I love it. Right, major, you've got one chance to. You're stood kind of underneath this thing in the grease. Your face torn wide open, you're missing an eye now. Blood going everywhere. - Is he pinned down? - You, I'll give you a chance to try and escape, get away from this thing or attack. It is up to you how you want to handle this situation, but it is kind of leering over you. It just struck you down with one claw and is still there, and you can see this terrifying. - This reminds me of a time when I was in the jungle, and I was. I was. I fall in the mud, it was very slippery, and there was a tiger on me. Oh, of course, that was a time. You know what I did then? I fucking kicked it in the box. That's what I'm going to do now. I'm going to give it a taste of the cold steel. - Yeah! - I'll get that thing off me. - You're saying this while you're underneath it? - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - He's like a pep-jockey himself. - Jungle survival skill? - Yeah. - I was gonna. - Oh, man. I'm so dumb. - No, roll it if it's good. - 51, no, one, two, many. - He has no luck. (laughing) - One, two, many. - He's a ship? - Oh, yeah. Oh, that's pretty bad if he pushes it. - So I push my jungle survival skill. - If you push it and fail, you are, I'm going to kill you. - You're gonna do it. - Especially with jungle fucking survival. - It's a major, do anything, do anything. - It's a major, do anything, do this. - Come on, major! - I'm major! - 81! (laughing) - Oh no. - I'm glorious, eh? - And to the major, covered in grace on a dog mat. (laughing) - Mrs. Miggins, you hit the major shouting, like you turned to one side, and this creature is like stood over him, and he's shouting kind of just incoherently and flailing, and the creature just kind of picks him up, it looks at you, and then it just turns invisible again, and you see the major just get like brought up into the air, screaming, blood pouring out of his body, and just flies away. - Try to take a sanity check when I'm doing my thing. - I think I'll let you have a little sanity check. - 71, yeah I fail. - Uh, cool. - Come on, one. (laughing) - Jesus shit. I'm not, I promise you, I'm never pulling my punches. - I'm not pulling my punches. - Uh, as we literally just have someone die. - Could we be Mary Sue, whatever it is? (laughing) - Not on the, great. You have been going for a long time. It is just you. Bertrand is lost in line. - I thought you just, I don't care about Bertrand. - Bertrand is like, are you still scared? I don't care, like I'm not like a convincing him. - Bertrand is just shaking and thrashing around down there. - He's useless. - And you're still going, and you hear like the scream of this creature flying around this building, and it's smashed back into, into the top of it. And as you throw kind of the last of this powder into the fire, the like the whole ceiling caves. Just wood splinters, just to smash down all around you. And, there is something in the pentagram. Almost like a tube, a cone above it. Something is there. And all of a sudden, you hear a voice. It's, "Please, please." Mrs. Miggins, I made a mistake. Don't send me to hell. I was wrong about this whole thing, and Rupert Marry Weather is stood, stood in front of you. - Aww, what bastard? - Like he's got blood down his front. I was wrong about this whole thing. Mrs. Miggins. - I'm sorry, Rupert, no. If you complete the ritual, it'll bind to this thing to this world forever. - Rupert, no more chicks, no more lies. Come on now. - Please. - Please, no. - Get back, foul demon. - And I think we've finished throwing rest of the powder. - There's one final flash. And the whole room turns this brilliant green. And yeah, Rupert Marry Weather is gone. And like, ssss. - Neatly in that gold sarcophagus is this kind of shard of amber with like some kind of insect is inside. Something you, I don't know how familiar you are with insects, but you have never seen something like this before. And it is just like nestled there. A little width of smoke disappears. And I think this miggins would pass out. - I think that's, I think that's probably fair. - Congratulations. - Wow. - I'm I'm being proud of us. - Well done. - I think we did it. - Well done. - And we lost the major, but holy shit, I'm so sad. - So we did good. - Ritual has been completed. Just a dull quiet, just descends across, across the merry weather farm. And yeah, it is all, it is all over. It takes some time. I think we were just hard kind of cut to a morning scene. Archie is never able to retell what he had seen in that film. But you know that there was, there is something inside that movie, inside that there's an entity and it is now an eternal obsession for you. - Well, I had a camera rolling the entire time. - Oh god. - Oh god. - It's filming the film. - You did it. - You made a duplicate. - Oh no. - Yeah, honestly, I think Willie was spared the worst of it that you had gone hysterical. But you just know that you made it through that night and it was okay and luckily, I think you blanked most of what you really remember about this. These events will stick with Mrs. Miggins for the rest of her life. But holy, holy shit. Like you, you know that you absolutely nailed this. All of you can recover a bunch of sanity you can each have. - Serving. - Even the major. (laughing) Unfortunately, the major's body is, not found for several months until eventually someone discovers it in the forest. I'm not sure. - I would have wanted to go. - Oh, eaten by Strain Boydland now. - Well, they couldn't find you because - How about you, in that window that had taken you up a dormit had landed on you. (laughing) - Like this is so normal for the woods. (laughing) - Okay, let's be a trap over there. We can. - It's a trap. - It's all for the tiger trap. (laughing) - But yeah, you have absolutely nailed this. On your return to Arkham, Rupert Mary, whether it's dead. He died. It was just whatever thermal illness that he had has caused him to perish. Bertrand kind of backs off and does not pursue any more about the house. - Does it want the farm? - He no longer does want the farm. But he does not pursue you guys for any of the artifacts or information, but I believe that holding onto that sarcophagus and the film and the second film that you have made will potentially cause all of your characters a lot of problems in the future as interested parties might want those. - Yeah. - Bam. - Congratulations. You have complete to the end of Darkness. Well done, everybody. (clapping) - We did a ritual where she did it for us. - You did it. - You did it. - Well done. - Big, long. - Man, like there were a bunch of things that I could have done that you just were all like, you prepared really well and I wasn't able to do. - I wasn't stupid. - And you did like really good stuff. - But no, that was great. Thank you. - Thank you, Greggio. - We gave the majors uniform to the old librarian. - Oh, great. - Oh, great. - We cut to like, you have a few neurons. - Yeah. - Oh, yeah. - There's other young librarian is crying. - I'm like, what fucking librarian? (laughing) - The woman from the guest station, she's there crying. - Everyone's telling stories about how the major bouts them and then the, (laughing) - They all loved him so much. Summary:

FAQs

Dungeons and Randomness is an actual play D&D podcast set in the world of Tharia, featuring over 14 years of stories where player decisions have real consequences. Its newest arc, Frostborn, is designed for new listeners.

You can find Dungeons and Randomness on all major podcast platforms wherever you get your podcasts.

It follows investigators attempting to perform a ritual to put a demon to rest, but the creature awakens and begins killing, forcing them to race against time in a tense, horror-filled setting.

Luck can be spent to improve dice rolls, but if it reaches zero, players automatically fail future luck rolls, increasing the risk of catastrophic outcomes.

They secure the house by boarding up the attic hatch, ensuring doors and windows with protective runes are closed, and arming themselves with weapons like pistols and an elephant gun.

Major spends luck to hit the entity, dealing significant damage with the elephant gun, but the entity retaliates, leading to a tense confrontation and a sanity check for Major.
