The shapes of the former crew, perfectly preserved in the icy vacuum, suspended in midair, unperturbed you press on, you know there's a fortune to be made here. Hours pass, and now, loaded with salvage loot, you make your way back to your ship. You swear there were four former crew floating here, not three. A shake moves in the distance, and you begin to panic. You radio Jimmy Morgan's, and make your way back onto the ship. You begin to fire up the engines, as he makes his way on board, sealing the door behind him. You undock your craft and begin to pull away. But then, a distress signal from the other ship. It's Jimmy Morgan's. Hey boss, where are you going? Why do you leave me behind? You look over at your co-pilot on the ship. They stare blankly back at you. Have you lost some kind of terrible entity onto your spaceship? Or are you on a, mystery class? And welcome back everybody to Mystery Quest, where we're continuing our Call of Cthulhu adventure in the Edge of Darkness. Previously, after being summoned by their dying friend Rupert Marryweather, our group of investigators has been tasked to barrage some ancient evil he believes he is summoned. We rejoined them after their research adventures, they're up the libraries of Arkham, where they may have created an evil entity of that own. So, is now a Barmy September morning. The weather is beautiful outside, and you have all spent a very interesting night at the Miggins' house. I'm going to go away from home. Do you go home? Do you live nearby? Oh yes, no. Fatherless brisk walk away. Lovely evening. He's walked the entire night and has then instantly started walking back. I think he went to me a nice lady. Oh, I know. An old library. An old library. And so you've had a nightware, Archie, you have spent most of the evening converting this footage that you've got into some kind of watchable form. In the dark basement, we've filmed strung up everywhere, all these mystical things all over it. Just developing the video that you have created of a diverse mysteries and. I was just thinking how much film is it can I keep it in the sarcophagus? I think. Is it based on the story up and just story in the box? I think it might be a bit big. I think you basically got like a can. It was not massive because there might be a few hundred pages to this. I have done this, put my director's viewfinder in the box just because it's a bit awkward to carry. Okay, great. Is that like fuck you up, going back through all of the footage and developing it? Oh, staring at the book again, yeah, maybe. Yeah, I feel like you see your faces and things all swirling all over. I want a hard sound. Give me a sound to roll on that. Basically reread the book that night on my own in the basement. 95. What is your sanity? Oh no. 77. Jesus, okay. It's a bad night all alone. Right, so luckily, wait, do you speak Latin? I don't have it as a skill, but I could roll to see if I can. So you can roll because everyone can pick up trace amounts of basically any language, but it's very, very low odds. One is one. One percent. Is Latin an actual thing, so you would add it into language as there's like a box, but there's languages. You need to roll 100 sided dice and get a one. Well, realistically, you don't want to be able to read Latin in this situation. That's bad. Oh, I see. Okay, fine. Yeah, well, it's very unlikely that I can read Latin. I have to roll a one. But if you also roll a crit fail, that could be hilarious as well. Okay. All right. Okay, great. So you are only going to lose just D6 sanity. It's quite a lot of which is for sanity. This is a great way to start. Start with the egg. So I'm going to say that the miggins has come down. They're like tentatively like knock on the door to wake you up. You have had a fever pitch overnight. You've not slept. You are sweating. You've been convinced that you've been hearing noises in the house. There is stuff going on. You keep hearing these like whispers and every time again, you get this like really high pitched like wine in your ears. Yeah, I don't think I slept in the bedroom. I think I was down in the basement and I come up to the kitchen all over. You slept in our bed with us. Yeah. But just like bags under my eyes, red bloodshot eyes, my sleeves rolled up just like I've seen some shit last night. Well, she don't look so great. You do, all right, Joe, chat. Do you need to cover Joe? That'd be good. Yeah, come on. This is what the experience you get when you have a new film idea as well. Yeah, exactly the same. I lose 40 every time. So yeah, you have developed this footage. And Mrs. Miggins, I assume you've managed to read through all of the journal. Should have done some night time reading and picked out the bits that are notable, I think. Yeah, it takes you a couple of hours to go through the entire thing. But we will just cut straight to you all in the car. I assume I have got the car already packed it up. I made everyone a little brown paper bag, lunch bag, little PB&J sandwich, little banana, little bottle of water. Wow, you know. I wrote your names on it. Oh, that's real nice. Nice. I'm just sitting in the back with it on my lap shake. It's like, you know, let me hold you too much. Yeah, I don't know if it's like most sweaty. Oh, God. And so yeah, you are now on this, the major, I assume you've joined the. Have you come to pick me up? We picked me up on the way. Okay, so I'm now in like Safari's chart. Okay. Is your expedition outfit? Yeah, I've made you look amazing. Right, thank you, thank you. And I've come through to my, my supplies shed. I've got like a little, from two supplies in place, shovel and a pick. And a pair in the corner. Yeah, I'll let you, you can have, we'll work out your supplies and stuff that you've got once we're still. Well, this is my elephant gun and I want to blow that, like a flute, like a trombone. Give me a lock rod. Do you have an elephant gun? An elephant gun is a ridiculous piece of kit. Is it a dusty, is it in this game? Yeah, you do have an elephant gun. An elephant gun is kind of the mean gun of this game. It is the strongest. Oh, I'm really making this. and held weapon you can fire. Well, my version isn't mine, or the survival is this 30 years ago, or the suffering. But you know, you've got to be prepared for everything. Do you think? 49. My luck is 80. Oh yeah, you're so. someone with 80. from what I did. It's like, 80 luck is just like, yes. And I have. I have it! Yeah, everything. You can have an elephant gun. I would just like kind of think maybe this. maybe this saber. Oh, you could take, you know, or prepare yourself. Oh, don't. no, that's not really me. I don't want to hurt anyone. Um, it's got two shots before you got to reload it. And it does 3d6+4 damage. Oh, that's a lot. It does a lot of damage. It is. That's insane. A elephant gun. Don't cause a lesson. You can't talk about an elephant. Listen to the check-offs gun situation. You're going to forgive me. So, they're shooting this campaign on. Well, I promise I will. Oh. So, you guys are on your way over to Ross's corner. Um, this was the bit of information given to you, which was the farmhouse was somewhere. Somewhere near Ross's corner. You might be familiar with it. If you live in this area, it's like a good few miles outside of Arkham. And it's like kind of small farming community. On your, like, lovely drive through the countryside, the rolling hills, the dark woods. Beautiful sunlight, fresh air. Do you recap everyone on the journal that you have managed to read through? So, you're probably paraphrasing this, but the view is a home. Did you get a chance to read through that journal last night? I did. I did. I really did with the scribblings of a man, man. But there's some chapters I'm going to read, which I think might be of importance. Um, March, 1877, which is just a few days ago. for a recap on the previous chapter the day after the ceremony they did. We began the ceremony as Alan instructed, according to the described in Divermese Mystades. A fire is set in the fireplace at a pentagram chalked on the floor, marked with appropriate symbols and illuminated by black tapers placed near the centre, flanking the piece of amber with its entrapped spirit. The other sits in a circle while I designated Watcher, who guards for the malevolent spirits, in the corner of the room. At least I get comfort of a chair while the others can look forward to sitting on the floor for hours. Alan throws a handful of powder in the fire, producing an evil smelling smoke and dampening the flames, which now burn a sputtering green and brown. Those seated on the floor begin the Latin chant Alan has transcribed from the book after nearly two hours. I see a trail of smoke circling up from the piece of amber. That surface seems to be bubbling and melting. Can this be? Have we finally achieved success? I can see a more. March 20th, 1877, the day after. We finished our plans and have sworn a pact never to speak of what happened last night. We have satisfactory explained the death of Paul Robert and in some manner the madness of Harold. The sheriff accepts the explanation of a carriage accident. We planned it well. Robert's neck was broken in the fall, we told him. How struck his head on a rock with the horse's leg broke and the carriage rolled. Would it be that it was only that for the rest of us we will be forever changed by what we experienced last night? I will write down the true events that are not lost completely. The thing formed in the centre of the pentagram, shapeless and nearly invisible. Its terrible voice should have given us a clue but we were so foolish it spoke. Then Alan cast the damned powder on the gin, the dust of imgazzy and that's when we could all see it clearly. Words cannot adequately describe the faceless thing with its thousand maws. It rolled and bobbubbled, never fully revealing itself at any one time. So terrifying was it? Its aspects that I was frozen in place, my pen fooling from my nervous fingers. Lessel and Alan seemed as lifeless as myself, while a short sharp cry issued from Crawford's mouth. Robert, however, rose to his feet and before anyone could stop him, stepped forward as though to embrace our horrible guest. With its arms or those appendages that seemed most like arms, it took hold of Paul Robert and twisted his head around as though he was a doll. The lifeless corpse was then thrown back into Harold's lap and that's when he began the damnable shrieking, the shrieking that hasn't stopped since even after we handed him over to the sheriff's men. We still had a chance apparently, Alan now believes that if we had kept our wits we could have reversed the summoning and forced the creature back to where it once it came. But Crawford panicked and mistakenly believing that it would dispel the creature, reached forward and destroyed part of the pentagram, breaking the seal and ending its effectiveness. Released from the binding symbol, the thing with a screech that can only be, have been unholy satisfaction was ejected from the house, disappearing out of the window as a roaring, screaming, wind of oiling colours. Oh my god. Well, he's like driving the colours. I'm getting a bit hard on you. Are we taking satishecks for this? Oh, yummy. That's all your new book. Fantastic. I wish I could ride this well. So where we're going to the farmhouse, are we? March 24th, 1877. Alan intends to leave Arkham and travel to find a solution to this crisis. He said that he intends to seek out the occult scholars in New Orleans. I pray he is successful, but my hopes are not high at this point. He insisted that I be a custodian of the Gold Sarkofagus and not show it to anyone. What's even more odd is he's instructed me to not visit or even live in Boston. I can only guess as to why, as he will not tell me his reasoning, apart from his insistence that it is for my own safety. Marion still thinks that the thing can be destroyed, or at very least, dispelled. But none of us who remain of the stomach for such an undertaking. I hope that I can find a way to safely banish it without another of us falling to its malevolent grip. March 26th, 1877. We now believe that the spell we cast to summon it, it's inextrubally bound the thing to the house. Alan went back this morning to retrieve some of our belongings and store our ritual accoutrements. He says that he heard it bumping around in the attic over his head, cursing him all the while. He said that it also told him that it only has to wait us out. When we who are present are all dead, it will roam the earth freely, slaughtering and feasting. Thankfully, the warding signs carved by Alan during better times, times that are so long ago now, apparently are effective and a bother thing entry, except into the attic of the farmhouse. I might be able to sleep a few hours tonight knowing it is bound to the attic and cannot harm anyone else. I'm hopeful for the first time since we stupidly released it from the amber. If it told him the truth, then we have time to seek for the answer. God be with you in your search, my friend. And then jumping forward to October 40th, 1877. I just discovered that Marion Allen is dead and has been dead for some months now. We've murdered in New Orleans this past August. I suspect that he spoke to the wrong sort of people about the things he had seen and they killed him. The newspaper mentions the sarcophagus, so they may have been after the gold. That is free of us now gone. I must do something. I've already begun ancient history classes at university, so I believe I will try to research the problem at the farmhouse in that manner. Perhaps I will uncover an ancient secret of how to rid our world of that beast. So on the that page, you have a newspaper clipping. Yes, I can read as well. August 14th, 1877. Brutal murder at Docs. The body of Marion Allen. We got to do it. Norlands. The body of Marion Allen later, welcome, Massachusetts was discovered early this morning near Go for Panama Box. A victim of foul play, the man was identified by a local witness who said the mayor, Mr. Allen, had been seen in the low cow the evening before. Although robbery was apparent motive, police report that the victim had gruesome marks carved into his forehead and his tongue had been cut out. Mr. Allen, the reporter, he got to the police earlier the week claiming that he would have been followed at fear for his life. Instead, his shadowy pursuers were after the gypsies artifact which he was no longer in possession. Mark V. Hey. Well, first of all, amazing job reading that out. Very well done. He did a great job. Great. Great job. Got a lot there. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry, just for that. Can I just ask, did any of what he was describing conjure anything in my head from things I'd seen in the book the night before, like just sitting there with my sort of shaking stupor, the things he was describing, did it conjure anything? Any memories from the book? As you cannot read it. Yeah. No pictures. Not as good. But there was those symbols, all kinds of symbols. It mentioned a like a circle pentagram and you definitely remember seeing things like that in the book that you could probably aid someone else to find that kind of thing again if needed. Okay. But yeah, so you are, you have familiarity with it, but not so much the exact language of anything that's going on just purely because of your lack of Latin skills and this book is written in entirely in Latin. Yeah. Okay. So now pulling up towards the sort of farming hamiler of Ross's corner, which is like an old farming community. It's like a single high street with maybe, I don't know, they're coming more than 40, 50 people that live in this area and this high street has a fairly, fairly kind of simple general store, which is also a gas station next to it is a, like a closed officials office, like a half part time like post office police station, but that seems like it's kind of closed at the moment. And there's kind of like an old wooden church like out the front of there is a sign, you know, saying, ah, donate to help fix our roof. Like this town looks like it's seen better times. It's one of many communities that are just falling on harder times and just a bit more, a bit more impoverished. But yeah, you're kind of pulling up to that. You're welcome to have a few minutes talk about your book reading adventure. That was a mighty, mighty scary there. Um, well, a little bit scared to go to this farm. They don't look super friendly weaving at them like You just get kind of like scowls or would that be like would we Would that be normal going into a kind of far out farming community? You would guess especially um The way they're reacting to To Willie who He's not like a super fancily dressed guy um, he looks like he could look so yeah, yeah, like you could be from a community like this You would be like this is weird. This is a colder Welker like you know, sometimes these communities can be a little bit isolated a little bit like Less friendly towards outsiders. Yeah, but car. But yeah, you get a feeling like this is a bit like A bit weird. No, no, this is not the warmer reception. We were hoping for I like beat my harm and wave people was Willie know come on now. He has Like the little colaron and his face is really horrifically scarred and you would say that coincides with injuries you've seen from the military of Kind of chemical weapons used in World War one That you think this guy had been in the service at some point and he's like oh A major it's A pleasure to meet you how are you doing? And the creature's head like turns a fraction. Like, you're seeing the back of it. And then a few more frames go by. And it's almost as if this creature's beginning to turn around. And look at you guys. He's going to make a Latin kind of roll. He's just eating his sandwich from his back right now. I'm going to want a sanity roll. Yeah, you come back and Pull into it is heavily overgrown this gravel driveway and you go through Okay, bunch of trees maybe sort of 50-60 meters and come out to a vagar like slightly small clearing and there is this old Wooden farmhouse there Sort of directly directly in front of you can we get the car like up the driveway or you can bring a park you can bring it fairly close you You'd probably not want to take it right up to the the front but it'd be you know sort of Probably halfway down the driver's like yeah, you could park it within sort of 30-40 feet of it Okay, just the ground looks a bit rougher way more overgrown What could have potentially once been a vegetable patch or a flower bed? You can't quite tell just this place has not been maintained What's so ever? Yeah, and so yeah, you can jump out of the car, you know just leaving under like the nice like bit of dappling Dappling of shade, but I've Have a picture of the house for you if you want to have a house picture Is this the only house we saw on the road? You would have passed one or two other buildings On your way up here, but they looked like they were maintained or in you saw Things like that it did not match like the exact location of where understood where you're heading you've got a vague Vague house, so it's kind of like a single story wooden house, but it's like high-peaked roof going up to an attic and It's a big attic when you Fits a lot of demons in that attic But as you step out and you kind of like sort of head vaguely towards it you become acutely aware that like there is no Bird song or anything like that whatsoever in this area You can't really hear much outside of the wind like gently hissing through the trees It's now maybe kind of like one two o'clock in the afternoon So the sun is still high it's still like bright outside, but as you look at this kind of the building with these Sagaing shutters kind of covering the windows Behind them. It's there.
