The D.P. H. Rowan, Rothenburg podcast analyzes a pivotal NFL game where the New York Giants tied Washington, following a disastrous sequence at the end of regulation. Washington made a catastrophic decision with no timeouts, failing to recognize they had none, which led to a fumble and a missed field goal. The Giants, despite a poor start, executed a deliberate clock-management strategy—running the ball and spiking the ball—before attempting a field goal, a move that made strategic sense to minimize Washington's time. The Washington coaching staff, led by Dan Quinn and Jayden Daniels, was heavily criticized for their lack of communication and decision-making, described as one of the worst in NFL history. While the Giants didn’t win, the tie was seen as a major emotional and strategic victory, reflecting the team’s resilience and belief. The podcast highlights how analytics and situational awareness could have guided better decisions, especially in minimizing risk with a field goal. Ultimately, the episode underscores the emotional toll of such mistakes and the importance of team cohesion and communication in high-pressure moments. The Giants’ ability to fight back from a 14-point deficit and finish with a tie is viewed as a sign of progress, reinforcing their growing confidence and potential for future success.
This is the D.P. H. Rowan, Rothenburg podcast.
Let the wild rumpus begin!
Catch us live weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. on ESPN, New York.
The MSG network and streaming live on YouTube.
This is D.P. H. Rowan, Rothenburg.
They don't have a timeout.
What are they doing?
They're going to get him.
They're not going to be able to get him that old.
You've almost never seen anything like what they did at the end of that game.
It's going to run out!
That's got to boost us.
I'll take the tie and get out of town.
It almost feels like a win.
Was it a win?
Was it a loss?
No.
Was it a tie?
Can they be good enough to fight and go the distance to at least be right there for this division?
This is D.P. H. Rowan, Rothenburg.
I'm happy it wasn't a loss and I'm sad it wasn't a win.
So that's how I feel.
On ESPN, New York.
All right, big 9 o'clock hour.
Let's dive back into where we started the show and that's the giant.
That game had everything.
I mean, James was awful.
James was great.
Likely was phenomenal.
Malik was phenomenal.
The defense got lit up and then the defense made big plays.
The game was done.
Then they fought back.
Then it looked like they were going to win.
Then it looked like they were going to lose.
Then you got a tie because Washington made one of the stupidest mistakes in the history of the NFL.
I mean, you had all the emotions during that giant's game yesterday.
You had all the feels, which is why it would have been an unbelievable live viewing party with you and Rosenberg.
Well, thankfully it didn't happen because I would have gone ballistic.
Crazy.
Something would have been broken when Scataboo fumbled and then all of a sudden when Dan Quinn and Jaden Daniels and David Blow did what they did.
Poor Peter Rosenberg.
Well, I'm watching it again as we speak.
Yeah, I'm watching it right now.
What are they?
What did they do?
How could you be so stupid to do that?
I have no idea what was being said in those headsets.
Like how when you get a first down with 55 seconds left in field go range that you don't even get a kickoff.
Make zero cents.
But you had so much time to like, all right, guys, here's what we're going to do.
You're going to let it run down to 14.
You're going to snap it.
You're going to center it.
You're going to you're going to take a knee.
And then you're going to spike it quickly and then we're going to run out for it.
Like what are you doing?
Hey, we want to make sure we're happy with where we're at.
We just want to make sure that this kick is the last play of the game.
Yes.
Let's make that happen.
It's not like it's the backup quarterback or the third string quarterback.
And there's some kind of confusion.
Maybe he's not used to taking the place in the helmet.
This is your starting quarterback.
You hear what John said about the kick?
Why even go at the kick because it could be blocked for a touchdown back the other way.
Just take the tie.
We're happy with the tie.
He says God forbid.
You know, that thing gets blocked.
No, I don't know how you, I mean, that one Dan Quinn gets fired, which will happen at some
point.
You oververt back to this and be like, that's why he got fired.
Yes.
That was as egregious as a mistake as is humanly possible.
Yeah.
There's a big difference under the circumstances with how about making the decision that he made,
especially because your kicker just missed the 46 yard field goal and it wasn't good.
Right.
He wasn't a good day for him.
Obviously a lack of confidence.
He's been unbelievable.
I still think in that spot.
Scannable has to just execute that's it because you're trying to make the kick as easy as possible.
And also take as much time off the clock because if you do miss it, you don't want to give Washington more time.
Turns out it didn't matter how much time Washington had.
They were going to screw it up anyway.
Yeah.
That's amazing that they did that.
But I mean, think about where you were like the last five minutes of the game.
You think to yourself because Winston leads him down there great throw to neighbors.
You get into a field will range.
Then then you're I mean, I was so angry at Scannable.
I was livid.
I was.
I believe the answer question though, but like after like so before that happened.
If the last kick the 46 yard field goal or just taking his last kick like the deep.
The last memory for John Harball in that situation was him like just right down the pipe.
Like 46 whatever it was just boom right down the pipe.
Right.
You think he runs another play or you think he's just like, okay, no, it's just kick this thing and be done with it.
Like you're at the twine.
I mean, at that point where you were at the 23.
So it's a 40 yard kick.
You were at you ended up at the 12.
What mean he ran it down to the 24 yard line.
You were out when they ran the play was third and three from the 29.
No, no.
Yeah, you talk about when they fumbled.
What I'm saying for the Giants.
They were not at the 29.
When they rent it was a five.
There was a third and three run from the 29 yard line.
He runs the ball.
So the fumble recovery.
Yes.
So it was the first and first intent at the Washington 24 24.
He fumbled it and he got picked up at this 20.
So you're looking at a 41 yard field goal.
It's a good question.
I mean, the thing and it's angry and I was I was livid.
Live it at scataboo at Harball in retrospect.
Like he's not a fumble or he's not supposed to be a fumble.
Like they have all these stats he hasn't fumbled in God knows how long.
Your kicker was not good.
The conditions were not great to try to make it a 37 or a 35 yard field goal.
You're having success running the football.
It feels like Washington is completely worn down.
I guess it's not egregious.
No, it's not a horrendous decision.
Yeah, hadn't run the football great.
That possession.
Yeah, the 19 yard run.
The 19 yard run, the need a nine yard run, the need a five yard run.
But you agree with me that Washington was like they were they were gasping.
Like they didn't have anything left defensively.
I don't know.
I think you may, but you were pounding the football.
I think the thought process was let's make this kick as easily as easy as humanly possible.
Let's drain the clock and then we'll kick it.
And unfortunately scataboo fumble it.
I just don't know if like they, I mean the kid had missed the field goal all year long.
If he missed the 55 yarders or whatever, fine.
By missing the 46 yarder again, right?
So name is three.
He was two of five on the day.
If he, if the only kicks he had missed with the 55 56 yarder,
do you line up and just kick the field?
We'll get out of there.
Like we've done enough.
Yeah, maybe it's, you know, just just what you say 41 yards.
Let's just bang this thing.
Let's go.
Maybe, maybe you do.
But again, in the moment I was red hot in retrospect, can you be that upset?
No, because the problem is, is that ultimately like I understand why he did it.
Right?
Kickers not having a good day.
Let's make this thing as easy as possible.
God forbid he does miss it.
Let's make sure we don't give Washington too much time to go down the field and beat us.
Scataboo's to tearing him up right now.
Doesn't fumble.
Let's keep on it.
You know, keep on on the rock.
Right.
And then we'll kick this and be done with it.
And player has to execute the problem on the Washington side was,
it looked like no one knew what the hell that was going on.
No, Washington was a million times worse.
Like the giants had a plan.
It didn't look like Washington had any idea what they were doing.
The giants didn't execute the plan that was clearly what they were intending to do.
Washington vomited on themselves.
Like that.
I'm not even kidding.
That was as bad at clock management.
And we've seen bad clock management forever.
It's awful.
It's amazing that it's as bad as it is.
That was the worst of the worst.
And it's not close to what was second.
Dave, what Rick said?
Is so true.
The way that you talk as a coach is even if you say it once,
you're still concerned that everyone didn't hear like you always bite.
Like just ever.
It's always the same.
Hey, we're doing the one two two.
Okay, guys, you know, we're doing the one two two.
Like, you have 55 seconds.
That's amazing.
What are you doing just standing there?
I'll tell you like, hey, get the head.
Hey, Dave, he knows what we're doing here, right?
Like we know what's happening here, right?
We're going to, like, let's, let's clock this thing,
kick the field goal and let's take this win and leave.
The clock hit zero.
And the receivers are still on the giant side of the line of scrimmage.
That's what the point, that's the other thing.
It's like, what play did you call?
Yeah.
They had to be a play call.
Otherwise, the receivers wouldn't be going running on root on ropes.
You called something.
Yeah, I don't know.
I mean, what was, what was Daniel's doing?
Why didn't he just throw the ball?
Throw it, throw it 15 yards out of bounds over a receiver's head.
He had to think that there was a timeout.
You think that he believed in that ball and there was a timeout?
I had to.
Then I had a timeout in six minutes.
Six minutes.
It had to do it.
It had to be.
Why else would you do?
Why else would you not throw away?
He's not dumb.
And you don't think that whoever is communicating to him in his helmet
is saying we have no timeouts, no timeouts, no timeouts.
Like that, that's, that's now practice what you saw yesterday from him.
It's, it's the definition of a fireable offense.
You want, you wonder why they're outside of a couple years ago?
Always a bad football team.
Yeah, you also, I mean, it's.
Dan Quinn is also, I know Kyle Shannon takes a lot of the blame for it.
I mean, he's also the head coach of the team that blew a 28-3 lead in Super Bowl.
Mm-hmm.
Like, I mean, you always, you, you do have the ability as the head coach
to, you know, tell the offensive coordinator what you like, you know,
what you like him to do here.
Hey, that's just right.
We're up 28-3.
You want to run the ball a little bit?
I mean, it's just, there's no excuse for what happened with Washington zero.
It's, it's, it's one of the worst things you've ever seen.
And the Giants benefit it, and they come out of that with a tie,
because if they lose, today's shows completely different.
But there's just no explaining it.
Like, I mean, that's the problem with the whole how it unfolded.
Right.
Like, you can't explain it.
Giants stand on the other side of things.
Even if you're, even if your first reaction was,
all right, let's just kick it and get out of here.
You understand what their, their thought process was,
handing the ball to Skataboo, trying to get a little cloak.
Like, it makes sense, milking the clock down.
Like, it makes sense.
You might not agree, but it, but I understand.
why? This doesn't even make sense. What Washington did at the end of that football game is not
even football. It'll never make sense. I got to believe too that there is with the amount
of preparation and analytics involved in all the sports now that they have an idea like percentage-wise
what the percentage as you get closer to the end zone, the field goal is. Like at 40 yards,
it's this percentage at 35 yards, it's this percentage. So if I got a guy that's just pounding
the rock, I mean I just gave you the plays on that possession, run the ball a couple more times,
pick up five, six, seven yards, make it somewhere in the 30 yard field goal again at the point.
If it goes from a 41 to a 34 yard field goal, even a guy that's having a rough day is not going to,
I mean the guys don't really miss 34 yard field goal. There's not much movement involved in that
kick. You know what I mean? Like he's pulled, like he's he tried to play a cut, it overcut. Now he
self-corrects. Now he hooks it. Like when you start getting to like 34, 35, this probably less
you're like movement wise, you're worried about. Like he's not case like just kicking it. I don't
mean start making golf analogies here, but I think that's you're going to just kick like just,
it's an extra point. Just straight. Boom. Easy peasy. You do this all the time. Right. And it would have
been and then would have won the game. It's it's a shame. It's a shame because they should have lost
than they should have won. Then they should have lost. Then they tied. It's it's so weird.
Yeah, but at the end of the day, I mean, it sucks. It's a good tie, right? I guess.
Hi, it's not. I don't know if this such thing is a good tie. It's a fortune to tie.
Now, but to battle back from down two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. There's something to be
said for that. Right. It's a big deal. They fight. They put it. You know what it does, though, too.
And I almost said this to Rex, but we didn't have time and John wanted to ask, you know, ask us a
question, but his camera was going in and out was there's something to be said for like the level
of belief in a locker room where you believe that good things are going to happen. And now you have
the game against Tennessee where you end it with a pick. You got the game against Arizona ends of
the pick six in like real tough spots. And now you have this where yeah, you make a mistake. So
it's like, you can imagine emotionally how the team is feeling. Now they go march down the field.
It's like off. God, we just we fought all the way back. We blew this one. And then like, you
can't even explain what just happened. I think that's why they aren't they bang celebrate the way he
like he I understand what they celebrated for them. Mentally, it was a loss. Like that game was over.
And now, but now that it's not, you start to believe, well, maybe there is something a little bit
special going on now. Like maybe like you did just for what John harbors trying to do to have results
like he's had over the last three weeks, especially his weird as this one was. I mean, it only
reinforces what you're doing. Like we keep putting in this kind of work because I like
people all the time will talk about luck, right? And no athlete wants to leave. It's just luck. It's
like when like all your hard work and a certain situation come together, it's like you want to be
paid off for your hard work. And now for that to happen, it's like it just instills more of this
belief that yeah, we are doing things the right way. Good stuff is happening for us. And now it just
it furthers what John harbors trying to do here in a short short period of time. His message will
get through even louder and clear because you're having immediate results. You're three one and one.
Listen, part of learning how to win is believing that you can actually win.
Like that's part of it. Like you mean you got to believe like there are a lot of bad teams that
will go down the way the giants went down and that's it. It's night night. But there's no way we can
come back from this. But as you start to build that belief and you get the results where it's they
do come back. James is awesome in the second half. And then somehow like whatever you want to call
it, malpractice, just bad exit, whatever. Like you end up with a tie when you should have lost.
I mean that's I mean it's it's it's much easier to get it's a it's a it's a much better week for
that team than lose now. I'm sure the trip home was a lot better having Washington screwed that up
at the end that it would have been if they kicked that field goal. Absolutely. Yeah. So how they
celebrated him. It's a tie. I mean, it's not it's not great, but it's better than the alternative.
But when you're in the team that that like gets the tie, right? Like if you're washing, can you
feel sick? You get they got a tie also. But if you're washing, then you feel sick because you
shouldn't have tied. And if you the Giants, you feel great because at the end, you shouldn't you
shouldn't have tied. You should have lost that. Well, stuff like that's not supposed to happen.
Like that that sequence at the end for the the commanders shouldn't happen ever, ever.
If that if that happened at my local high school game, I'd be like the coach would be fired. Like
that's a fireable offense. Yeah, any level of offense. I mean, Ray was just in my other giant
should have won. Yeah, they should have won. But I mean, I understand the process that they went
through. Right. That process make that process makes sense to me because I think if I'm in that
situation, I I probably don't love the idea of where my kickers at mentally right now because I
just watched them miss the 46-yard field goal. Right. Ray, even even though and you're right,
the Giants should have I mean, they should have lost. They should have won. They should have lost
the tie, right? But even though you think the Giants should have won, which they should have won,
even if you disagree with what they wound up doing by handing the ball off and not kicking it,
you understand their thought process of what they were doing. Well, it's all a matter of your
perspective because the Giants were staring the loss right in the face, but they were also
staring the win right in the face. I'm not arguing that. So it's both those things are true. But
like when the Giants handed it to Scataboo, it blew up in their face. You understood why they were
doing that. Of course, it made it made sense. But in that moment, I thought the Giants handed the ball
off to Scataboo thinking, okay, we've got this in the bag. Let's just get a good field goal here.
That's all they were thinking. They weren't thinking. They were thinking that was going to happen.
Okay. I think we all like to do the same thing, right? We have the colors that didn't
he told us about how we see everyone on their coach knows what they should do, which is
kind of crazy because you're not actually in the moment. We all want to believe that and then
all of a sudden things are happening fast. But like, it gets, it's a lot different. If I were to put
myself in John Harbour shoes, just like you were going to do or Ray was going to do, I can't imagine
in my mind, I would say to myself, the way I'm watching Scataboo run the football,
and how I feel about my kicker right now, I would naturally feel better about what Scataboo's
doing than having my kicker out there in that spot at that moment. Let's make it as easy as possible.
We're running the ball, but Cam doesn't fumble. We're running the ball well, and then let's make
this as easy as humanly possible. Right. That's right. But my point to ask Ray was, Ray,
you might not agree. I don't even know what you're taking on it. You understand why they did that.
You and you're a football guy. I don't have any issue with what they did. I'm just telling you,
I'm just telling you, the giants at once point thought they had the win in the bag OT, and they
didn't, and they thought it was a sure fire loss. That's why it should have been you for the life
of you. You don't know what Washington was doing. Right. I mean, explain it, because what was it?
26, 27 seconds when they broke the huddle. So there were so many failsafe, so many instances where
somebody could have said, wait, what are we doing? We don't have any timeouts. What are we doing?
So spike the ball. Throw it away. Do something. Jay, why are you so why are you totally with seven
seconds left? We're not going to get this off. So yes, it's way worse for Washington,
but that doesn't necessarily mean it's great for the giants. That's all I'm pointing out.
But the giants had, like Rex said, and he's right. The giants did a physical mistake.
It's awful. I'm not defending it. It happens. The commanders had a, I mean, not a brain fart,
several brainfarts. I mean, they, they blanked all over the place. Again, that in a vacuum is a
fireable offense. But if it happened, like, as it stands, like if you found out, as we got off the
air tonight, that the, that the commies that decided the fire, Dan Quinn, you would say, yeah,
you know what? I get it. Yes. Because that's just how bad it was. Let's go to Doug and Rivervale.
Doug, you're on ESPN, New York.
Dude, you guys are on the exact topic I want to talk about. The way Dan Quinn actually reacted at the
end of the game, I think, is more telling than anything. That's not a reaction when he's blaming
himself completely for the mess up at the end. He was like completely like out of his like mind.
He was throwing the headset down. That was more of a reaction where it looks like maybe the
offensive coordinator combined with Jaden Daniels. That sort of, I think, how he was putting blame
on the situation. I'm just curious how you guys thought about that. What is he listening to?
I don't disagree with you. The way he slammed down his headset was like he was mad with the
decision that was made as opposed to like, hey, this, you know, we were all in this together. He's,
is he on the wrong channel? Like, what exactly is he listened to? I would imagine you're trying to
listen to the play called me and they don't sent into Jaden's helmet. No. You right? You would think.
Or you're just giving that. That's what they, that's what they called a fly route.
Like everyone run it. There's no way. How is that possible? They called something. Otherwise,
what were the receivers doing? Hey, it's just guys just do what you want. And it's not like one guy
happened to just wander, you know, into the end zone. Everyone went deep. But no one thought. Hey,
this is, this is not a good. If you're running, if you're running a play in that spot because you
want to milk as much of the clock as you can before you kick the field goal, you're not sending the
receivers out. You're running the ball. They stay close to the line of scrimmage so you can get up and
you can track it. And you spiked the ball and you would have plenty of time to do that. You got
a first out with 55 seconds left in the game. But if you snap it with 17 seconds, you run the ball.
Everyone's right there. You have more than enough time to spike the football and kick the field goal.
What you did was was again, I don't know. Could you imagine what would DC sports talk about what
you like today? We just watched the team. Listen, I get it too. This guy's football is a very emotional
game. We just watched the team kick a game when you feel go with eight seconds. Let me, let me,
let me take a call. Why don't you worry about getting a little bit of, wow. Dan and Jersey,
Djibouti, Dan, you're on ESPN, New York. Good morning, Dave. Good morning, Rick. How are you guys
today? We're okay. I'm choked up. Yeah, he's very emotional about the Giants tie.
So I don't know how you guys feel. But yesterday was, I think again, the Giants probably
lose 34 to 13 in the past. So for them to even get a tie. No, no, I'm not thrilled about getting
a tie but it felt like they it felt like one of those were you didn't necessarily lose
i think that he didn't leave going to win the vision
i don't know how you have a game and a half lead
philly just choked all over themselves
dialysis people in their locker room or like people walk yelling at that walking
in the locker room saying he's embarrassing i don't think washington's all that
good my only request for the giants would be i'd like i want to see jay jim
McCarthy and i don't think jamus played bad yesterday jamus was a terrific
felt like a lot jamus in that second half you could be terrific
i think the first half i thought it was awful i thought the second half he was
excellent excellent
the thing is i don't know how much he helps them with their running game and they
have not been able to run the football since dark left
or since dark when i was an injury do you think McCarthy would help them run
the football and i don't know why they didn't want to run play in
i think yesterday i mean the the times that j jim McCarthy was in the game it didn't
because they knew it wasn't going to throw out no thanks to the called it i think if
you institute McCarthy as he is your starting quarterback you will have more
a efficient running attack yes yeah i think that's true just because he adds a
different to jamus doesn't it yeah i mean you i mean the feds of players you
talk to that just i mean but we'll tell you all the time when the quarterback can
run the football it's a real problem and you saw the running game last year i
mean it's a they were what 15 the NFL yeah they were in the ball really well
last year the dark was really really good last year and was going to be again
this season um rj yeah hi oh yeah you're in a great mood aren't you great
vote just the best vote
is that did you i don't where were you able to watch the nine or see Hawks when
the giants was going on yeah well it was on all because of the the wasn't at a
local game in New York so i was able to watch on the ticket until your game
ended and then it was i had to do some yeah they cheered that's how it goes
yeah i don't think that i told you i was a like when the cowboy game started
well no one of the other games is going on a couple weeks ago i watch the whole
thing no problem yeah you know i think that was initially i think that was a
problem yeah was a few it was one of the weeks and then they fixed it because
people are all upset about it right right that makes it hard to work out for
you got the whole thing i did get the whole thing and it was that was i mean
oh my god i'm something you're probably still engorged we're throwing that
forward around so i'm obviously writing high but i mean those are two great football
teams Seattle Seattle's gonna be there somewhere in the end and I don't know
exactly how far they'll go but they're they're still kind of figuring some stuff
out they're good they are really they can't run the football in samkiest
left turn the football over and still they were right there right there jason
catches that ball they probably would and if they just don't run a play on
their own two yard line with 18 seconds left in the half and no time out then
they may still win the football but you know what they didn't i mean there's a
mind numbing decisions that get made yeah i tell you that the coaching
decisions are there they're they're they're horrible i don't know what else
there is to say about it let's just play madden doesn't it's a gigantic win though
you're five and oh you're two up on your tie breakers over the right now the
ram c-hawks three known the division right yeah it's all happened that's all
how it's all happening um you know what else is going to be happening yeah
mom in nanoseconds nanoseconds you know what it is
tell me you don't know do you no stuff you missed what no
there it goes
jackfire
lean syndrome of the heavy knocked it down
jailing puts a ridiculous shot the shit you missed
all right so we're throwing fun stats out entering yesterday
giants zero and 230 when trailing by 14 plus points in the final eight minutes
of regulation which almost sounds impossible it does
now you are zero 230 and one but what's the stat holen i gotta i gotta get
a good stat about that last night they they said uh
not last night yesterday afternoon after the first half
i'll find it continue our dream uh some other NFL injuries day about we've
touched on plenty of them michael panic suffers rib injury and they're lost to
the raven says he does not expect that to be long term
patriot's lose running back trigger on hundred ten and their left tackle will
camp with injury in the blowout victory over the raiders got a
Fernando Mendoza citing that game Vikings airtight anti jackeleton suffered a
concussion on the second play of the game obviously did not return in the
Eagles already depleted at running back they lost
will shift lead to a foot injury in that just horrifying loss to the to the
jacks maybe Rick will reach out to his friend
car car uh here's the stat giant giants had lost the last 24 times they were
trailing a half time wow before yesterday that's something
yeah that's amazing uh Eagles said they're going to keep
Lane Johnson on the 53 man roster for now despite being they only
dressed 52 now good despite issues yeah being retired
unfortunately uh stillers put wider cfer Michael Pettman on
I.R. with his foot injury that doesn't work though no it has not
Texans made the trade official they trade for Marvin Harrison Jr. from the
Cardinals and reunite him with CJ Stroud his college quarterback at Quahil State
Roger you want me to give you a Marvin Harrison Texans jersey?
No not yet but we'll see how it works yeah you know what there's just a
little bit of life left in my aggressively bad tank yeah you're like when
you're with Hulk Hogan used to get choked out
yeah and they give him the third one and he's yeah that's where you're at
you won't let it fall I mean hey you got to hang on right
you gotta hang on so menstrual house stand little college football rankings
Georgia up to number one after Oklahoma beat Texas
that was a terrible no call in the Georgia game that was a bad call yeah
that's a pass interference uh are we are we leaning towards uh
arched potentially going back to Texas one more season
what four I don't know seriously
I'd to even out his play a little bit like our bad rate to be not so inconsistent
I'm absolutely annoyed at the whole archmaning thing man I really am
like from start to finish I will tell us more tomorrow um
Alabama and Georgia boy Alabama they they had that good they had it
good they had that game that penalty late um
we we talked a lot about Oregon situation Oregon
Oregon problem on their hands so Dylan really got bench number 13 uh
Oregon loses to number 21 UCLA by the way Bob Chesney UCLA coach that's
that's the guy that's the next name I know this runs the cycles and
Abton follows but that seems to be the next guy
North Carolina nice one for them then knock off number 25
pit bill bell chuck his first win over a ring component pit with their backup
quarterback but yes so what they don't ask out yeah yeah I believe he's what
he's a fifth year player never oh highly recruited bounce down a couple of
places he probably pulled out the injectables that night oh boy uh
Brewer say edge of the Dodgers game one of the NRCS Turk's Google goes five
gives up both runs Jacob Miseraski goes four and a third strikes out five
giving up one Milwaukee bullpen heads off to them four and two third scoreless
didn't anyone how many did did we want everyone watch the game obviously did you
see like when they put the it must be the umpire wearing the uh
camera yep with with Miz throwing the baseball
yep holding I don't know how you make contact with that thing
it's unbelievable a lot of guys don't he was not efficient last night though he's
like a hundred pitches and four and a third yeah he worked um
Carl Anthony Towne says he is a quote disappointed at the nakes are
tabling any contract extended talk sir I don't like what are we doing why are we
doing this because they just want a title and they
believe they can do whatever it is they want to do yes yes that is exactly it
how much of this you think is that the known repeats anymore so it's like why am I
gonna want to read it anyway well not even repeat I saw says that uh
I believe all the way back to the Warriors repeating no one's even gone back to
the conference finals maybe did the Thunder do I think the Thunder than the
comment yeah after the year after winning so Thunder the only one on either side
after getting to the finals or something like that so yeah maybe maybe James
Dullin just figure say I delivered the title yeah see how that lands which
are nicks fans uh pods brain and pizoomsky of the Warriors gets a five year
hundred and ten million dollar extension from gold state
unfortunately Rangers fans have to become very familiar with the name
Dylan Garan who made 19 saves Rangers win six two well yesterday yeah he
did I got fortunate old I got to tell you thank god that kid cleared wavers yes
they got lucky so got lucky they were they ran the risk of him getting picked
up and he didn't for them so they beat the six two yesterday and the first
game says that Egor are gonna be out for the season so upset they haven't said
what it is yet correct I saw it's lower body it's lower body
yeah yeah probably yeah there was a report of me obviously
but that class fights as much as you're gonna get from the hockey world
um by the way talking oki the panthers eyeing a six-week
timeline for bread marshal to return and the the fliers are off to the
worst start in franchise history so things are not going well for rink too good
no thanks no whatever's with uh Connor hella buck now
oh he wants out I saw I saw something that had like a running ticker of all
he's been fine like it was like 40 grand there's something like that it's
like half a million I think that's awesome um and um trade for Dylan
Larkin and the Valkyries be thrown the aces
they will play the dream after they swap the liberty
the WNBA finals I believe the Valkyries coach was the assistant for
the aces right I believe that to be true yeah good job
that's it I'm gonna dub 9BA guy

before we roll along why don't you uh tell me about your back and how you
won't fix it but there is a place that could in why would you like me to fix it
explain to me when I have time to go get surgery right now
if you need surgery it's not uh is this a good time
it's all I need to do it to feel better
It is a good thing. There needs to be time to do it though like I can function not well
But I can function. It's all like I have to be like wheeled around to places. I can walk. It's not it's not easy
Are you are you uncomfortable or you an agony if you weren't agony you would go get surgery. I'm yeah
I'm pretty close to agony. Yeah, all right. Well, then this is on you to the band the medication that I'm taking makes it very difficult to wake up
So what why don't you tell me about the place that has fixed millions and could fix you but you've chosen not to allow that

To learn more very nice. So here's a interesting stat you guys love the stats
Vikings 5 and 0. Yeah, fewest points scored by a team 5 and 0
since 2010
Okay, so I mean at some point the offense is gonna have to catch up here
I mean like you can't keep winning games by scoring, you know 15
12 it's a tremendous amount of pressure to put on your defense. Yes, it's and their defense is awesome
But I it's not sustainable like if I said to you right now
Now I know where it's like a third ish of the way into the season
You don't look at the Vikings is a real contender in the NFC do you to win a championship? Yes
I don't think the Vikings are as good as Seattle
I don't think the Vikings are as good as San Francisco the Rams rams fully healthy, which we haven't really seen yet
Um, are they better than the Packers? Yeah, I think they're better than the pack. All right, so right now best case
I think you can make the argument right now in their division
the the best the best group in that division is the Vikings defense
Their defense is terrific. I mean, it's it's a top three defense in football
But if you're not gonna score points you eventually it's gonna catch up to you can't you can't win games like
No, it's gonna be tough to like to consistently do this on a regular basis the way they're doing it
But I mean, maybe yesterday was a step in the right direction
Where it starts to get better points yesterday 23 points just Jefferson scored a touchdown and Jones ran the football well
I mean it all comes down to how much confidence you have in Kyler Murray
I mean really he's not as good as last time we saw him healthy. It doesn't feel like it. No
Let's go to get a guy to answer your question over the next
Let's call it next five weeks. You have this schedule in front of you of course. I do what I look like what do they have coming up?
Give me their next five. All right, they're hosting the Colts. That's a very winnable. Yeah, then they go to Detroit against that offense
We'll see what the game. Yeah, then they host the bills that'll be tough at Green Bay
That'll be tough and then they host the Niners. I
Mean so realistically you could see them sitting here at 6 and 4
This is a good this will be a nice little runway here for them
So if you offered three and two to them over the next five, they would definitively take it
I think they would take it. Yeah, you'd have to
Because then you're gonna get the Falcons at home the Panthers at home
At New England Detroit at home
Washington at home at the Jets and then you got the Bears at home
Washington is done, huh?
I can't believe they did what they did. Yeah, that kills them and guess what they get the gift of the Niners on on
Monday night football and the problem is is with J Daniels too if it was with the kid from Rutgers
You could maybe understand it. Oh make sense like that made no step made zero sense like what am I could you I'm telling you right now
There are certain things like when you're a coach or in this case like if you own the team that it'd be like
I didn't know how I let you coach anymore
Like I could you couldn't explain that to me where it made enough sense where I let you keep your jarbel
It's it's one of the worst things you've ever seen in football like
Part of the reason why people with the the analytics like that that
That group has now infiltrated all these sports is because it's much easier for those people to explain to an owner
Who's not someone that's played this sport?
This is why we should do this because that I mean that that stuff makes sense to the owners
That's like a lot of them. That's how you know that math is part of how they made the money that they made like that
It's not like why'd you do that well because I've been in that situation and I had this feeling like the owner doesn't know what that's about because he's never
Had that feeling before yeah, but the owner's probably what are they what are they doing here? What right?
Why don't they just spike the football no, but so like you couldn't like
There's what could you say to the owner in that spot
This is why this happened. There's nothing you could say there's not a number a stat like there's nothing you could show me that would explain
What the hell just happened? I mean you're in your office. You don't see your family. You're locked away for 80 85 90 hours a week
Your entire life is dedicated to this and that's what you allow to happen in the biggest home game
What makes it worse Dave is you had a full minute and it's not like we haven't something like this kind of like we just recently took a time
Out there's only two timeouts and overtime so we know we don't really know yet took your second time out
Which is your last time out with 624 they must have been telling that they had to have been telling him we have no timeouts left
So whatever you're gonna do you do it quickly and and make sure everyone is close to the line of scrimmage to get back
So you can spike it Vinnie statin island Vinnie your une espn New York
How you doing guys? I just want to change it up a little bit. I've been watching this guy play for three years now
One of the giants going to cut Jay bonk there but though. He is terrible
They're not gonna. He gets mad. He gets mad. He gets mad. What are you gonna trade him for?
He gets mad handled by one offensive lineman every week
He gets pushed around like a regdol the guys are always a hard show
He's the worst off. He got the wine in the football. Well, I'll tell you what Vinnie. He's terrible. Enjoy him for the next at most
But what do they have 12 games left because season he will not be on the giant's neck. Brian Burns didn't get hurt
There's probably a chance of something when he gets traded during the season. I mean, you need him
Let me get it for him. Okay, it depends on how we put it out here, please
Oh, okay, they won't even get it. They won't even get it. Alright, I guarantee you
They get it at worst. That's ramping for him. I guarantee you
No shot. No shot at all. You don't think other coaches watch tapes. He's terrible
Okay, he's going to be the lead you don't you don't think you can't even record these considered to be a bomb in the NFL Vinnie
No, Jay Jay McCarthy still can he still be the young kid but that other quality right that's a 39-year-old tape on
Well, Jay Jay come on you know goodbye Vinnie
That did fairness though. There was less tape and he was he's a quarterback. So I think it's a little bit different
I mean just all I'm saying is you'll get a fifth round pick for
I've heard rumblings you get a fourth ramp pick for when he asked the question about the coach to watch tape
I don't know. I don't know what the coach is doing really. I don't know. I don't know what coaches. I question what they're doing
I don't know what any coach does. What do you do at the facility? I hang out and have some snacks
Got a great. We got a great sauna. I've lost all faith in like coaching and and
Timing and everything. I mean, I would purposely if I was Josh
I would like check Dan Quinn's key card and just like see how long it like how long he's been in the building this week
Like what exactly are you doing all these hours
Like I said, you've been in the building for like 12 hours a day. What are we doing with these 12 ever was it fault
In this it's just like oh god, please don't let it become public that I'm no one to screw this up
Now it's like it's Quinn. It's Daniel's. It's it's the offensive quarter now
But even if it was but I mean even it was blah that called the play and didn't explain to Jayden
Like it still falls on Dan Quinn like he's listening to the play call right
Jayden looks bad to or should be listening to the play call. What is Jayden doing? He just stumbles back there and just just crumbles down
Maybe they didn't remind him that he had no time. I don't know so bad
Thanks for listening to that D. P. H. Rowan Rothen Brood Podcast
Bring it looking for more access to the show why cuz you know why follow us at dr on ESPN
I don't think we said this guy got a couple tweets you some of the blame has to go on Jayden Daniels
Yeah, absolutely of course 100% this blame to go all around there for for what Washington did or didn't do at the end of that game
Right but somebody called the play. I don't think he was like just on his own. It wasn't like in the headset like hey just call what you want
Somebody called the play but you're not you're not an idiot you have to know the of no time out
You have to throw the football away if the plague doesn't develop the way you need to develop
Right the wall
You can't just crumble down
Depending was said on the I mean the depending was actually said on the headset
Into his helmet
Even if somebody tells you something that is so clearly wrong. Are you just gonna be like okay? That's it. They told me if they if they say here's the play
You know once you run it will call time out
Oh
I mean, I don't know what was said. I think that Jayden Daniels is probably smarter than that
If like I think if somebody told them what if if you're in trouble just crumbled that it will take time out they should be fired
I just don't turn this thing over. We'll we'll take care of it. We'll kick the field go
Anthony in Atlantic Highlands Anthony you're on ESPN New York
Well guys, how much you love driving to this video in Columbus day by the way. There's nobody here. Is that right? That's nice
There's nobody here
It's a federal holiday so yeah, there you go it is
I'm still working before I get on my questions. I just saw an interview that the uh they they actually did know
They had no time out they brought it in they spoke about it right before the the plague
then I can't understand what Jaden Daniels was doing if he knew they had no time outs.
But whatever benefit of the giants.
You got knocked.
So yeah, I saw a crazy stat about the jets, you know, they're what, 27 of the past rushing
in the last 20 years, they, so they had eight out of 13 pressures.
It's happened less than 1% of the time in the last 20 years.
How aggressive they were on that past rush.
Do you think this is like the new future of what they can possibly do with the past
rush?
I think their past rush will be a lot better than it's been.
I don't think that they're going to, that that's what they're going to be like.
I think that was the perfect storm.
I mean, Cleveland, Cleveland's a disaster.
They're often not that good and he holds on to the ball forever.
Now that being said, I mean, you have to like what you saw, but I don't think that's what
it's going to be like moving forward.
But eight sacks is eight sacks, you'll take it, David Billy was, David Billy was an
absolute.
No, but I'm not taking anything away from, from that.
I'm just saying like, like, I don't, you think it's, that's what it's going to look
like?
No, I don't think it's that.
I don't think that's what it's going to look like.
I think that that team, like, matched up well for what Aaron was trying to do, which
was the nickel blitz.
They were, they had a hard time with that.
And then it's also dependent on which quarterback you're playing.
Like the sacks not just on the offensive line.
He's got to get rid of the football.
Like they're probably, I mean, there are times when the sacks on the quarterback also.
I thought a lot of the sacks yesterday were on him.
So I mean, listen, Aaron Glenn needed that win so bad.
They lost that game.
If that doesn't go the way it goes and they lost being one and four, losing that game
to Cleveland, today would have been rather than some jets and giants talking about the
tie.
And it would have been four hours of Aaron Glenn, going to get to get fired.
I would have been a lot of Aaron Glenn has to get fired.
And I don't know that I would have walked away from it.
I don't, you couldn't lose that game.
You know, by the way, Rich Simeeni, the great Rich Simeeni, he's now four and one in his
jets prediction.
First loss.
Yep.
Let's take that Rich.
Raymond.
Hey.
How you doing?
Jets one.
We won.
So they could bet that game with Rich, like a lunch with Rich, he would have paid it off
or not.
Yeah.
Probably today we would go now for lunch.
That's just kind of guy Rich is.
All right.
Well, no.
Raymond.
Yeah.
Three stars.
Yes.
Let's go.
Today's three stars.
Number three.
Jets win and Rick can't control his bodily functions as a result.
I mean, listen to this.
It's a physical mistake.
Right?
That came out over the air just like that.
I thought it had a--
It was like a gurgling.
It was a gurgle.
You get some food.
It should be hungry.
I ate so much pizza, yes.
Get some food in there.
Some water, too.
Could you imagine what D.C. sports talk about that you like today?
Listen, I get it, too.
It is very emotional.
Number two.
Gets the arguments with Tex with John and apparently it's resolved, but it was ongoing
for a while.
He's wrong.
He doesn't see himself as wrong.
He's arguing the same point with himself.
And then I'm like, you know what?
I'm just going to let this fizzle out.
Then Ray gets involved.
Now you're involved.
And he's not going to stop.
Yeah, I may have fed into it a little bit.
Now look what you've done.
Right, but it's--
Now I have the dot.
Now the last thing you want is the dots.
Number one.
Or maybe the last thing you want is a long snapping, because you were taking out some frustration
on poor Dave on Hamilton.
Now I'm taking it all out on Scadiboo.
Not to you guys, but like, you know what?
Going to your stupid backflips and ran your head into a wall, and I hate you.
My bad Scadiboo first.
I can't do it.
I've never seen it.
The holder has to jump up every time.
I won't put it nine feet up in the air.
Now I said, it might be the worst take you've ever had.
No.
You know what the most important thing to take in history it takes is my defense is fixed.
That's the most greatest take.
Well, listen.
I still stand by what I said.
We'll try and figure this out with you in long snapping tomorrow, though.
That slop of a guy.
Oh my god.
That was an exact science, as we all know.
You make it sound there.
They're like, hey, listen.
You know what?
Figure out fissure for us.
No, they're like snap a ball.
Ten yards back.
No, listen.
The most important thing to hear Dave is the Eagles lost.
You make life decisions like that, and it's going to bite you in the S.
So child, cry.
Talk tomorrow.
I love that.
That's very well done.
Thanks for listening to the D.P. H. Rowan, Rothen Bird Podcast.
I'm just trying to have the best possible show.
That's what I'm trying to do.
What does that start?
That weekday mornings from 6 to 10 AM on ESPN, New York, the MSG network, and streaming
live on YouTube.
Podcast Summary
Key Points:
The Giants secured a tie after a critical error by Washington, who made a disastrous decision with no timeouts left, leading to a fumble and a failed field goal attempt.
Despite the chaos, the Giants’ decision to run the ball and spike the ball before kicking was a calculated clock-management move to avoid giving Washington more time.
The Washington offense’s poor execution—specifically Dan Quinn’s coaching and Jayden Daniels’ failure to recognize the absence of timeouts—was described as one of the worst coaching mistakes in NFL history.
The Giants' resilience in battling back from a 14-point deficit and ending with a tie was seen as a sign of team belief and perseverance, reinforcing their growing confidence.
The incident highlighted how modern football analytics could have predicted that a shorter field goal (from 34–35 yards) would be more reliable, making the decision to run the ball even more strategic.
Analysts agreed that while the Giants' decision was flawed, their thought process made sense given the circumstances and the pressure of being down.
The emotional and chaotic nature of the finish led to widespread criticism, with some calling it a "fireable offense" and others noting it was beyond normal coaching failures.
The tie, while not a win, was viewed as a morale boost and a sign of progress for the Giants, especially compared to the emotional toll of a loss.
Summary:
FAQs
The Giants ran out of time with 55 seconds left, handed the ball off to a quarterback, and a fumble occurred. Washington made a critical error by not having a timeout, leading to a 41-yard field goal attempt that failed, resulting in a tie.
The decision was controversial. While it made sense to drain the clock and reduce pressure, the fumble and lack of a timeout made it a poor execution. It's seen as a physical mistake rather than a strategic one.
Washington failed to communicate that they had no timeouts, leading to a complete breakdown in play execution. Receivers ran deep without a play call, and the offense had no plan, which is considered one of the worst coaching decisions in NFL history.
Dan Quinn and Jaden Daniels were criticized for not communicating clearly or calling a timeout. The lack of coordination and failure to recognize they had no timeouts led to a disastrous play that many view as a fireable offense.
The Giants benefited from the tie because they fought back from a two-touchdown deficit and avoided a loss. The outcome was emotionally significant, reinforcing team belief and resilience despite the chaos at the end.
The fumble was a pivotal moment that disrupted the game's momentum. It highlighted poor communication and execution, and the resulting field goal attempt was made under extreme pressure with no clear plan.
