Brentford with Tom Medd | Correspondent Week ep. 10 | Planet FPL 2026/27

Keskustelussa Brentfordin kirjeenvaihtaja Tom kertoo seuran tilanteesta kauden puolivälissä.

Welcome back to Planet FPL Correspondent Week and we are hitting halfway and it's with our Brentford Correspondent Tomme me, how are you Tom? I'm good but probably not as tired as you are. Well it feels weird for me because you'll be listening to this probably on Wednesday afternoon. It's still Monday evening. We should probably clarify that, which is important when we're in a millivirtreance for Windows and you might yet have business to do. And when's the first and foremost Tom reflect on last season with you so nearly qualified for Europe? Who was it Mr. Headed Chance at Liverpool File Day at the Deaf? My bum was tweaking at Whiteout Lane at the time so I can't really remember and I had a few drinks but you very nearly won a Anfield and you would have been in Europe if you'd done it, right? And he games you won in last three months at a season. I know I don't actually know. One. Oh yeah, because you were in that stupid dali mat drawers it was drawer drawers neette like seven. It wasn't intentional that I had aston Villa Ron before Tottenham and Brentford on after Tottenham but I would also like to extend my thanks to you that the only team you beat in the last three months of last season was yes West Ham United. I'd like to thank you for that very much. He doesn't feel like that though. This is it isn't it's an interesting tipping point. You won one game in the last three months of the season. Yet still ever so nearly qualified for Europe and we were just having a conversation off camera saying it feels now that we should be beyond the stage of saying Obrant for the concern this year. Like how do you feel about the club and each trajectory and where it's at at the moment? Yeah, I mean great. I mean, John's obviously usually pretty positive when I come home with you anyway. And I know it's one of those where I think over the last few years I've been saying, 'Bremforder' could be a bit nervous. And I've been thinking of what was being relatively positive. I think last year was the first time I was actually at a nervous because obviously it was a complete change and obviously I played with my life last year. Completely unknown, lost obviously a big, big hitters for us from the previous season. And yeah, but I think again proven that. I'm not to say it doesn't matter who's in charge but the club itself is a big unit The coach is just a cog in that really. I think that Bremford did a great job of recruiting behind and making sure there's always a good Back-up plan I guess plan B if anything was going wrong. I don't want to put words in your mouth but have you now concluded that Actually Thomas Frank was shit? No, I don't think so. I think it was. Sorry, no. I think wrong club, wrong time. Yeah, no hundred percent. I just, yeah, you know, now I mean he'll always hold a special place in Bremford's hearts I'm sure. I, it wouldn't be that much of a shock if he was back as your manager in the future I don't think. No, no, I mean if yeah if something works, doesn't it? Yeah, I mean he's trusted and I think it would be difficult for him to probably get another job in the Prem at the moment with how badly I think it when it's Bers. So yeah, could do. No, yeah, we'd said on the Tottenham pod all those managerial jobs come up this summer and no one very in degrees of expectation. No one even if the Ips which as far as I know didn't pick up the phone and ask him or anything. The only one I saw his name linked was Fullham and I thought well surely he's not gonna go there but. Quin, did you think Quon please go there? No, no, no, I was hoping he wasn't. I do, yeah, I do, I do still quite a lot. I would that stain the. Because a bit of a rivalry aren't there, you and Fullham. Yeah, I think so and yeah I don't I wouldn't want him to go there until. We'll be get reminded of that rivalry in December when you and Lewis James do Clash of the Correspondence, yeah. I think that's ahead of Game Week 15's in the plan. He'll certainly be on before then. We're not undermining key foundries here in any way because I think ultimately he's surprised all of us last year. Yeah, that's a matter of how seamless the takeover is. Always as well when you've had someone who's been in a spell like a long time like Thomas Frank was, the takeover afterwards can be really challenging. He took it forward, not backwards. No, he took it in his own direction. Yeah, no, I think he's done a great job. I think he's in the similar vein, he just he talks so well as well. He explains all of his decisions, he comes out and you know whether it's a win or a loss or one of the major awesome last season. He talks about really well and he sort of, I think all the media stuff he's done for you is he's really helped. So he comes across just like a good guy and yeah, very spectraful and. And it's not easy to like, yeah, massively. Play different systems as well. Yeah, yeah, it was, yeah, it just, it just seemed to have worked. I mean, obviously people forget it's again, it's his first job running a club as a head coach. He's been assistant for the Shuffle Giottaville, he was seeing them now with us. Why, why did you tell earlier that I was like, it's the Colgis, like a wheel of Brentford rather than the person who's kind of at the front of it. But what is that, the people who don't know and almost like how is that possible because when the manager loses his job, everyone panics over who's next. So like, if it went wrong, would you panic about what's next or is it just a complete trust, my shit, they'll pick you, they pick. Yeah, no, I think it's just like complete trust in the team and what they do and like the backroom staff, so I feel Jiles is a massively important person behind the scenes. Lead like swell, I think is really important in what they do, but it's one of those where, I mean, you listen to obviously lots of podcasts over the years or different people saying small snippets of what happens. And it sounds like it's basically it's always a group decision, so whether it's signing a new player or what they're going to be doing going forward if they're bringing in a new coach. It's not just, it won't be Keith Andrew's decision, it won't be Phil Jiles's decision, it'll be. Someone will come saying this is someone I'm interested in, this is what we want to do and it's a group decision of going. And so I think Thomas Franks spoke previously where he's saying that if it's someone that he's not a fan of, then they won't go for him. It's a fact that some of the Phil Jiles says it doesn't quite fit the criteria of he doesn't have the right attitude or something, then again they won't go for him. It's the whole team have to be behind the decision. And that's interesting, we've just had a conversation with Ricky on the top of the podcast about almost like they don't know what they're doing upstairs, deserve to be saved them from relegations. They're kind of giving him the tell us what you need and just trying to do it, which has more volatility in terms of what it might be good. But it is also more likely to be really bad versus your consistency moving forward. This is what we mean, we can't see you now being unstable. You're the solid furniture now. Yeah, I mean, something goes wrong. And so, it's nothing goes wrong. And there's nothing to say that it will in terms of the growth of the football club because you're very nearly qualified for it last year. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that that should be an objective now. No, definitely, I think so. I mean, there's been investment in the back as well. Mathibian still the majority shareholder but there's been added investment from behind the scenes. Mathibian is the director of Keynes, one of the things of that. As you see, the second shirt, the Awake hit release, that sort of connected to it. And there's another guy as well, I think it might be the guy who owns auto-glass or something like that. I can't remember exactly who it was but they're like a little consortium in the background. They're basically, you know, are investing in the club as well so there's more money coming from other places. And so, yeah, hopefully it's only upwards for us. Okay, repair and replace. I can't think of the correct puns I put into this at the moment. What do you think your fixtures start against my team mate? I've never been to Italy, I'm going to attempt fight because I think at this moment you beat us game one anyway. But you haven't beat us at the GT, I think, with the only team you haven't, I think. No, yeah, I think you're a boat team at the moment aren't you. But I think if, out of all the teams I'm sort of happiest that we're playing you to start with, because you're going to have so many new signings whether it takes a bit of time for you guys to gel together. I'd rather get you out first game of the season than five or six games into the season when you've had chance to get it all together. Ged it all together, essentially. Maybe lead's away, sundering at home, it's decent start. Yeah, it's not bad, yeah, it's not bad. Even like Bournemouth the way I know, obviously Bournemouth, but you know, with the change of manager as well, how that's going to go. Yeah, they come into that. unknown period that you were almost at this time last year with the complication of them having European football. Do you ever think a little bit you almost better off without it? No, I mean it's one of those I think if we got into Europe last year you can't help but be happy. Of course. Because I mean yeah absolutely. I'll happily take a trip to Kazakhstan to watch us play. But I think when you don't get in you look at it in the background and go well it's another season where we continue to build and I think because we're finished in quite a high position you some of the players see it seem more you know it's not like you're finishing low down the table and then players are going right and need to move now and he's get away from here because nothing's really happening but when the club is still moving forward I mean because I've not seen I've seen links to one player which I'm sure we'll talk to about in a bit but apart from that I've not seen links with any player leaving the club or even wanting to leave the club. So yeah so I mean that's always really positive and if we can get into build on that then I don't see why the aim this year can't be to finish in those spots for Europe. I have seen links of one but we're not expecting anyone to to leave you but I don't think at this stage. So positive start of fixtures I think you possibly ease the word flagging for those who are looking at you a little bit longer there is a ghastly period of fixtures that include united away in an arson one man city consecutively between 1214 Everton before that full him away new castle after that then you've got it's such a commentary away going into Christmas so yours actually flips between the okay to quite bad to then go to get more than actually some others so with someone like Tiago who you would look at now as possibly a long term hold looking at periods like that 12 to 14 if you're thinking that long might make people a bit nervous easy justified in an 8 million time. Yeah I mean second thoughts for the last season you can't not really yeah it was great last season you played really well he had I mean he played one game in the world cup and so I think people have judged it on he had one bad game against a very good moccaside and now apparently he's terrible again so yeah I'm certain he'll be great again this season I'm sure he'll kick on um whether you can replicate that many goals I don't know but yeah I mean you can't if you had him any less than 8 million than nothing ever would happen because yeah it's was a 21 goals last season yeah but uh it's not he's certainly not part of a template the most just that 0.5 more than gelpeg show I think where he the same price as gelpeg show clearly Tiago would nick some of that ownership but I still think it probably would be gelpeg show of the two is my instinct yeah would you say it that way yeah probably I think again I think it's the classic you know we get as you've said we're just underestimated every year I mean everyone talks about you know well we'll still be in and around that middle pack so yeah I'm sure this season will be underestimated again and we'll see what happens but I think it's fairly priced yeah the eight the eight millions fine that's I'm not that oh it's too much and like I need to monitor that constantly I don't think I'm probably not going to start of it despite playing mind-seeing game with one but it's more probably more as gelpeg show answered than any kind of downplay of Tiago's abilities or or qualities but would I ever reminded of though is and it's interesting we're talking about the call gun the wheel of Brentford now it just keeps going Tony Vissa now Tiago what is that what why do Brentford nines if you will why did they consistently perform so well in terms of their output in the Premier League it's quite I mean he asked a new cost of that like I'm vissa shit yeah yeah right vissa may well improve now etc this year but they've not been impressed with him yeah well we can hope he stays doing so badly as well are we and I've heard this mention with Brighton before it's like some players leave Brighton just don't seem to do that great some obviously really do but some leaving it's like was it Brighton rather than the player is that what it is with your nines is there an element of that a little bit I don't know really because I mean a lot of players have left us and got on to continually do well I mean holy whatkins has been great at Villa and but we had a good season I think at United for season so I assume he'll kick on this season he'll more pay Everton unbelievable great little loans fell back with us as well they did better for you that you did for the club he did I know absolutely so I don't obviously I don't know whether I mean again I assume you know when we look at players we're looking to play them in the team and in the systems that we're playing and so whether that you know you take that out of that system you put them in a different system whether those attributes don't work in different systems but I don't know yeah no I don't know to you unless it's just they seem to be working for us now and I'm sure I mean we've had Evan talks about all the positives we've had but there's there's people sitting in our back around that weren't very good signing so like Fabio Cavalio for example you know everyone forget about the bad ones because we've had so many good ones but they have been bad ones as well just luckily at the moment it's been more good than bad okay uh that that those numbers are those Brent for nine so I mean it's got a stick reverse movement forward though for example Tiago gets injured every fullback Kalan Wilson has a 5.5 forward okay getting on a bit minutes might be so strong but because of the nature of how nine's perform for you and we know the one good aspect of Wilson is he's even scored goals for West Ham when he played last year that seems like a shrewd backup signing that takes a bit of pressure off Tiago but I I don't it doesn't like immediately impact him if that makes sense no definitely I think it's um so we've got a K Furo as well who we signed last season but he's a young I mean he's 19 um he's highly highly rated um but again you know he's a youngster hadn't played that lot many games for for Bruce what we've gotten from and so I think I mean I was really happy when Wilson signed because I mean he's he's a classic has been very consistent playing throughout the lip the Premier League proven and adds good experience to the team and Tonus I think probably helps with Tiago I mean Tiago is not old and you know you've got someone like Kalan Wilson to learn from as well I mean that's great for him as well so I think yeah it's a really smart signing to honest unna Furo Ezin is kind of bunch with I think it's 10 4.5 billion forwards in the game at the moment I think two two of I've gone or Rangers is probably eight technically to pick from the moment is Furo is likely of any of them to and I'm not expecting to know about the others but is there a chance for him to get minutes this season or not um I don't know really um my expectation was that when we signed Wilson whether he got on lane but it doesn't seem to be that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment it seems like he'll be staying um so yeah I mean he'll probably get a few minutes here and there but it might be more if someone gets injured that you get he you know he's he's then the the third choice striker yeah I think what what people want from that 4.5 is the the night expected miracle which is is he can you get some minutes that that's it just like a something um again some an absolute Tiago you're going to be very interesting that's what price if he ends up staying around the club I mean it was involved in a friendlies you had two friendlies in France at the weekend didn't you against Ren's uh shout one of our patrons Brickie was out there he was involved wasn't he so it's suggesting might hang around at the moment there's worth note I think Wilson scored in a six of in five minutes of coming on uh as well by the way so I guess one of the dangers with Furo you have 4.5 so danger blocking yourself here from other Brentford players oh yeah potentially I mean this is a real conversation Tom no no he played he played 90 uh in the first guess we have two games he played 90 in the first game but I think I mean every player apart from players who were missing or injured played some minutes in those games um yeah but I mean potentially I mean if we have a good run to fixtures there are some very reasonably priced good options I think for us this year um so yeah no I think it's potentially if you go for him especially the star that's eaten I don't think he's gonna be any minutes at the start of the season so I wouldn't go there personally I'm sure there's better options um that you can stick on the bench I'm out Hello how do you think you can do it? I know that you're out there We'd better start. I promised that you would join in on my signature. You could also join your athletes. That won't do a dip! On a real game – e-show junto-vo té hetkehopg A collection of out Alaуетa Harjoite and their performance on a pretty intense training run, and the best way to get the best out of the team is to win the first round. The winner of the campaign is Lidia Seneksi, Elixia Pistefi. - Guitar. - Guitar in 0.5 more. Is that justified in your opinion in the first instance? - Based on last season, yeah, definitely. I think Shade wasn't, he didn't have a great season last season. I think Dango actually, yeah, was really, really good throughout the season, played really well. And so yeah, I think based on what we saw last season, it's definitely justified. For what we're gonna see this season, I don't know, we mentioned obviously. Shade has been linked with Roma. - Yeah, he's the one that I've seen that has been a little, the odd link. He's actually, he has been mentioned with Michael, I'm not recently, but more in the past. - Yeah. So there's suggestion that he doesn't want to sign a new contract with us. And so there's the rumors are now starting, whether you know, is it time that he moves on while he's got good value. But at the moment, sounds like Roma, I'm gonna pay anywhere near what we want for him. And so it sounds like he will stay. - Okay. So given the choice, you would pay the 0.5 more through Tara over Shade. - Correct. - Yeah, at this moment, time, yeah. - Okay. 15 attacking returns through Tara last year from 25 stars. That sounds pretty good to me. Seven goals, eight and a six. Shade started 32, 13 attacking returns. That's only feeling like a one in three, scored eight. Of those 13 attacking returns, where from memory scored 11 the season before. I said to you off camera before we start, I've got mad Kevin Shade, he's that for you. You don't know what it is. - No. - If you look at midfielders in FPL at the moment, and look at their XG on the FPL website, you had the most in the league last season. - Okay. - Modern Primo, modern Fernandez, modern Enzo Fernandez, modern Antoine Semenio, Kevin Shade, XG at 12. It's a big underperformance last year. I just wonder if there's a consciousness in that in terms of not thinking he was good at it Tara. Flip them maybe big opportunities missed, and maybe we feel different about it. - Yeah, I think, I mean, based on what I saw last season, I think, I'd still go with Dango at the moment. But we might see quite quickly that Shade, you know, yeah, well, that's a good step. I mean, if he can get anywhere near what he's performing then, I mean, that would be great. But I think he just, he misses too, at the moment from what I watch, he misses too many chances. And again, that's probably why he's XG so high. - Do you think he snatches at stuff? I don't know, really. It's times when I just think he takes a bit too long as well. He's sort of, I don't know. He's not quite the finished product yet. I mean, again, he's still super young. So I mean, it's plenty of time for him to learn. And I'm sure we will improve and keep improving. I mean, he's still being included in around the Germany squad already. And so I'm sure we will get better and better. But yeah, based on what I've seen, I mean, there's only been the preseason game so far. 'Cause I think Dango got goal and, yes, it's just as well in that game. Shade, he played in the first of the friendlies. He played full 90 in that one. So yeah, we're interested, but imagine it will be from the start. I mean, Shade is gonna play on the left and Dango's on the right. So it's been the coin toss on that one. - I think as well, and we'll talk about him in a sec. Anthony feels like more of a direct threat to Shade and Utara. That does how it feels on the surface to me. Plus an acknowledgement. I don't think he will move, but a small chance. Okay, maybe you receive an offer for Shade that you might theme suit or Utara. Just don't really see that at the moment. I mean, he did really well. Last year I've said to you before, I think you well paid back the money that I thought was a massive overpayment time. - Yeah, that's fine. - You've done really well. That needs to stay, though, that Kevin Shade awareness of 'cause I think when you look at that and I'm not massively looking into it, but you are sure who did underperform? Who might raise the floor of what they can do this year and Kevin Shade definitely, maybe even with more competition, might rise up to that. Interesting, Lake. Do you normally pick where to hire at Shade and Tiago last year? - Yeah, but we got a lot. - No, it's Annie Harland. - I was in, oh right, okay, I thought I saw recently, yeah. - No, to caveat that Tiago obviously had a number of penances. - I see. - Yeah. - That really influences that. 22 goals scored from an extra year 20.6. Next highest off the Harland Tiago Dominic Calvertone, 15.57. It's his Harland Tiago Calvertone, Watkins, Gelpejo, Matetta, Welbeck, Yoccares, Shade, Bumo. That's what I'm saying. - What? - You put Shade, you're in that category. You're like, hang on, am I? Is this something I've missed there? But I think that fret from Jaden Antony, he's quite live and real. How do you feel about him as a sign him? - Yeah, really good. I think the, I mean, scored, was it, I think, how many goals did he get last season? Was it nine goals he got last season? - He got quite a few at the start. Eight goals, four assists, the 12 attacking returns. And I mean, for a team that obviously weren't scoring a great amount of goals, and I think he was sort of one of their standout performers, and the amount of money we spent on him, I think, yeah. Crazy that Brent would be spending 15 million pounds on a player to basically be, let's say, let's say a backup really. But yeah, I mean, I think a smart signing, good backup, exactly what we need. We were, I think, a little bit short in the wing department. I think we're still looking for it, other than essentially. So yeah, I'm really happy with it, John. It's an end. He's quite good in the, in the preseason, friendly so far. - Yeah, I think he would probably be a gamble too far at six at the start. And as said, I do think he's probably more of an impact to Shade than Uttara, just in the sense. I think I like Shade from an output perspective, more off the left. So if Uttara did come out to me, it's Shade probably, is the more likely, ends up on the right. Okay, FPL community has been losing their minds about Mamadu Sangari. Tom, I presume you've come armed with data. - No, I haven't, but that's really from podcast. - Exactly, yeah. I mean, I've seen all the tweets, so from everybody and it just seems like he's an absolute monster. Yeah, I mean, you can watch the highlight reel from his game in France the other day and it was pretty good. He looked fantastic. And yeah, I mean, I was, as soon as the links were in again, I think it was set off camera, but the fact is, move from a chance to leave squad to Brentford is a little bit mad. Yeah, and hopefully if he's any, it was anything compared to what the stats were, lassies and flens, then yeah, he's going to be incredible. - Where would we first and foremost, where are we expecting him to supply what's his best position from what you understand? - Yeah, so it's going to be, I imagine as sort of probably more as the six, I'd say, sitting as part of the two in the middle. My assumption will be rotating with other players, but whether that's the word people didn't want to hear that, Tom. - No. I think we've traditionally, when a new player has come in, I've not seen him, sometimes we're concentrating to the squad, but it's rare, I would say, mainly players are coming in slowly being built into the squad, rather than being immediately rushed in. And I think the midfield was actually very stable towards in the last season and played really well. So obviously you see, you mentioned obviously there's anyone winning there, but there's a lot of draws and I think that the actual midfield played quite well. Yeah, Janout was fantastic last season. I thought potentially he was the one that was going to stop being phased out, but he was incredible last year until he got injured. And actually I think when our downturn of results came, that was actually when Janout got injured. And so he was big player for his last year and Jan looks been, he has been getting better and better and better as being, there was last season, big links with him, potentially with big money moves, but he seems pretty solid with us at the moment. - I think, yeah, it feels at this moment, and we might feel different, let the friendlies at weekend, if you start some plays 90 minutes, you start feeling kind of like very positive about this sort of thing. But yeah, I think there are challenges there, with what you've said about Janout, I think his pivotal, I think Yarmuluk is improving, you know, I really like the Tais Jensen, actually, it's a football I really like, and I know you could play the 10 position as well, and it sounds like Sangari could operate in several different positions as well. I think without further knowledge, there's too much threat there. And also on top of that, the data, I went through a tweet, I mean, FPO Abby did on the weekend with David last Friday and give some numbers, and she'd looked at his numbers in League Un, in Austria, I think, with Rapid Vienna, when he played in European competitions, playing international football, didn't matter what she looked at, it was like, yeah, Sangari is gonna rise above the expectation of Defcon required, per 90, whatever the competition, but we still don't know what, none of those competitions are comparable to the Premier League. And I have seen people suggest that you could probably expect a downturn in Defcon returns from League Un to Premier League. So without more knowledge for me, that's of no interest to me at this moment versus a, okay, maybe less thrilling. It's interesting, less thrilling. Let me get the Defcon guy, less thrilling than the guy who's probably on penalties at Brighton for the same prize, for example. - Yeah. - That's not right. - At this moment, who's solid for minutes, we'll get returns. Yeah, I feel like Sangari could definitely develop into this year's Elliot Anderson, but it's only in could, there's definitely nothing I don't think you and I could sit in and go eat will. - No, definitely, I think, yeah, I mean, I think there's just enough competition in there that it makes it unsure. I think if it was coming in and we'd lost, Janette was out for injury or whatever, but I think it's just a little bit too much in there. Yeah, like you said, Jensen's can play obviously in that center role, but obviously he's more really playing as the 10, but Dam's got up there as well. But there's just a little bit too much to be 100 cents sure. And I mean, especially if you go in with potentially bench, baseball or two, you want someone that's going to start and you might not. - I don't think it's very little that he's going to be involved from the start. - Yeah, 100%. - I don't think there's a major drama for people. I think people think I was shit. He's going to get me four points every week, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. I don't think we can be too sure of that at the moment or wherever he's, you know, Anderson can still contribute, attacking returns last year and stuff as well. I don't think we can be sure. I want to throw two more names in that might even kind of muddy this a bit further. Is the silver fit? - Yeah, he's fit, yeah, he's back. Finally. - Space hasn't played football for two years, but that's his gig as well, right? And I'm not suggesting he's going to be in front of Sangari, but it's another player in the position. - Yeah, I think he plays something more forward to silver, but yeah, he can play obviously there as well. He will be, I mean, it will be the slowest move, I'm sure to play more minutes. He did, but I think playing half an hour, sorry, he played 45 minutes on the weekend with the double header. He did play 45 minutes. So he's definitely back to fitness and there's been some cool, I'd say if you do want to have an interest in his injury, recovery, there's actually some really cool stuff that Brent for the race for his injury, I mean, I've really loved, because he's his player. - Yeah, good sim, but I'd be like, yeah. - I also want to massively caveat by reminding everyone the conversations me and Tom had on correspondent week last year. You can feel free to remind people if you wish Tom, or I'll do it one or the other. That's why this is bad for me, not bad for you. - Okay. - Because you were quite bullish about Tiago's prospects. - Mm-hmm. - And I really put it out, I was like, he's been injured for a year. I'm not, I'm just not sure about it. So if you feel very bullish about San Gauri, do tell him. - No, definitely not. So he's in my, he's saying that, he's in my team at the moment. - You're so pretty cool. (laughing) - But in terms of literally throwing it together, I'm certain he will be in my team at some point, but I probably won't have him at the start. Because I just, I know how we operate. And it's one of those where I just don't, I think it'll be involved in something that you said, but it might be one of those where it might be Jensen, sorry, it might be Janut and Jalma look for the first sort of couple of games. And then it might be San Gauri comes on for 30 minutes, or it might become, he comes on a half time, or it might be he starts and then comes off. I just don't think it's gonna be that consistent at the start. I think short-term pick, I don't know where you would pick it. Like if you're World Cardening 3 or 5, or if he might have chased the goals or that. - Wait, wait. - For that sort of price or something. At least that's something that's just a bit more secure at this moment. He feels like more of a long-term pick. He's like, I think he's gonna be like Anderson. I wanna have him for the long term. Yeah, cool. Okay, let me see that, which I'm not sure about. I'm gonna give you another name that might muddy this further. 'Cause I poo poo'd last year, we got to go partner-fact with the government from a very serious injury. So too is Anthony Melambo. It's his gig as well, am I wrong? - No, definitely. He's not back yet. So he's not played any minutes in either of friends. And it doesn't sound like he's gonna be back ready for the start of the season. - So he's probably still would cut the months off, probably. - I don't know how, yeah, I don't know what the prognosis on time wise, but yeah. I mean, again, he's recovered from ACL, so I assume it'll be a slow reintegration. But yeah, again, super exciting. If you'll prospect probably slightly more of a, again, slightly further forward player. - Yeah, he might be one second half of the season. - He's in a fight. - He's in a fight. - Yes, nice. I mean, he's played six, eight, 10, he's played all those three in the center. So yeah, that'll be interesting when he's back. - Okay. I'll bring the San Gauri conversation back to closure of 5.5, is he the best Brent for that set of 5.5? Like would you rather have Lewis Potter or a Damsgod? - If, I mean, I'd rather have Damsgod, if I knew he was gonna play, but again, Yenson was so good last season. I think, I mean, there's been, again, there's been very slight links with Yenson off, but I just don't think it's gonna happen. And I wouldn't go there when you've got sharp, you've got, you've got, you've got sharp, like a really big build for just, you know, - Don't do that. - So you've got, you've got sharp, eight, six, there's a half million more and you've got, yeah, Dango at 6.5. So I don't see why you wouldn't find, I mean, even if it was finding 0.5 more for the player that I'm pretty confident would start left wing. - Okay, it makes, it just makes more sense. - Let's, let's finish up with defenders and keepers. Then firstly, Kella, her is in up five. Vandenberg's in up five. Injured am I correct? - Yeah. - Injured, yeah. Collins is 5.5. That, I don't know why the Collins one feels like a particularly big jump. I know all the def complains have gone up. Collins was like a particular jump. I don't feel tempted by that 5.5 at all, particularly. - No, it seems, not really. - I don't think so. We were lucky, the best last season. - God, I think we were, I think we were in Sangari and Tiago have already scored in game week one now. - It's so obvious. - It's always the way. No, it just seems a bit too much money for a Brentford defender. I mean, I don't think we kept, we kept good amount of clean sheets last year, comparative to everybody else, but it wasn't amazing. 5.5 just seems a bit expensive when you've got. - Yeah, we possibly need to adjust that, I don't mean like six million for an everton defender. It feels like a lot, right? But Tarkovsky will probably prove good value. - I would imagine at that price. - I think there's other ways in, although again, they're more dangerous. - Okay, let's talk about one of them that I know said a few mentions. And I think partly because of the Van Dundberg injury, it's taught to me back Chris Fruzia. - Yes, I'd say I'm 99% confident he'll start in game week one. The problem you've got is, Van Dundberg is there and when he comes back, he will be more than likely first choice. Again, I know it rotated last year a lot, it seemed that one of them would be out at one point. We have some Yannick Schuster as well. And again, he's very young, he's only 20. He had a very good season last year. I get, well again, what's for Salzburg? Because it was slightly different. And against bigger step up. So I get, imagine he'll be introduced slower. But again, he's there and he's a threat. So if it's short, everything I as good is fine, it's a good punt, I guess, for a few weeks, but potentially. - I guess, would he maybe, a year, fit in nicely for specifically maybe, for a team that wanted to maybe bench boost game with one, but also was looking specifically and maybe while cardening game week four, is that like, kind of the end of the limit where we feel comfortable at the moment, maybe. - Yeah, I mean, I think, I don't know exactly what the Van and Burgundry situation is. I think, from what I, again, it's gonna be out for the time. - Wow, I think there's a couple of months. Yeah. So I think there is a, you know, it's a bit of time. It's not gonna be straight away. It's just whether there's anyone else that comes in for, I mean, if he has a real stinkant, let's say, in one or two, then you have got Schuster there ready to come in. I mean, you've got a few ones I can't imagine would come in. Like, you still Ethan Pinnock there, who I mean, has played minutes in, but again, the friendlies, there was, - I didn't see that. - And you switched to her back free, and that team like that was about it. - Yeah, all for the game. - Yeah, fun ball, Laxia. Trust me, I watched a lot of them. - That was no, we needed a worse Brentford game I watched Laxia, I can tell you. - There is some. - Yeah, no, yeah, it was, it was, yeah, really stinkin. And G Suite Kim, as well, was out on loan last season. I don't think he's quite there yet either. And there's a few B team players that seem to be put knocking on the door really. And I think it was, I'm gonna get it wrong, but Benjamin Frederick was out with Celtic last year. I think that's right. And again, I'm not sure if they're gonna be anywhere near the first team, but yeah, I'm just, I as one of those where, first few games don't mind it, but it's a little bit dangerous, essentially. - Okay, are you leaning into, you would just prefer to get the Longfrow match? And I can't believe Arsenal haven't bid for him yet, KOD. - Yeah, so I knew long-term contract with us now. So that would cost too much. - With hopefully some stupid release clause for 100 million, I guess, everyone's going for that at the moment. - Yeah, so, Longfrow's longfrow's, - No, pay it, mate. - 120, maybe. - Yeah, you have put another one, mate. - Yeah, the problem is now he was getting, I mean, he got further forward last year and got better and better as season gone. He was unbelievable. I would probably say, apart from Tiago's pro player of the season last year, the problem is he got Defcon a few times last season, but it's just not going to be the consistency on the Defcon's, which really have a more honest, going to be where he is going points. He's more of the traditional punty 4.5 mil you would have got a few seasons ago. Yeah, but I think they've tried to bring these sort of players back to our attention this year. I think because of the way the game went last year, it was like, should we overlook these? Like as a 4.5 mil in rotate, you're going to be playing in a good fixtures. That's all right. Yeah, no, I mean, he's definitely going to start. He didn't actually play on the weekend. There's talk they think his partners probably giving birth very soon, so it might be that he was away. He didn't play any minutes at all in France and wasn't with the squad, but I'm from what he said, it sounds like it was, yeah, there's nothing wrong with him and I imagine we'll see him in a preseason game, coming up shortly. Fine. And from a certainty of minutes, he would definitely be a better pick. Okay. Pushed to Kyoto, he's better liked and at this moment, I probably agree with you. So again, if I'm going short term, Kyoto seems a bit more fun. Yeah. He's, I mean, unbelievable last season. He's so good. I'm signing a new contract on this, probably better than most of the signs we've made this year actually, because I thought he was gone this year. I didn't think he'd stay. Okay. Does he and interested in a Jair at 4.5 render no interest in Kelleha? I don't think so. Yeah, no, I think it's slightly too much for, he, in my opinion, I think he'll get better this year again. He got better towards the end of last season. I think he had a bit of dodgy shape start, got better and better throughout the season, but I just don't think it's not really worth the extra is it? I mean, when you sell it to David Ray, a 4.4 points per match at 6 and Kelleha, a 3.9 at 5, but I think hidden in that is some pen saves, which is, there was I think, unspeakability that can obviously really skewed a returns one way or the other to potentially dropping that quite a bit if he doesn't save them. I don't think David Ray, I saved the penalty last year from memory, don't quote me on that. That might be a little bit skewed, but I mean, 3.9 points per match. You ain't many, five million defenders are going to do that. Yeah, but yeah, then again, the mayors will just go with one of the defenders instead. And when you've got goalkeepers that seem like they're sure to start like your keeper and goal and I think is it for the broggens at 4.5 again this season, isn't he? Yeah, I mean, I'm not a fan of a premium goalkeeper. I mean, I guess he classes a premium goalkeeper now at 5. No, not having that middle, middle, middle of the row. I think, I've said this on a few other bits this week. I think it's a priced one to try and push you towards the 4.5 defenders. And that's okay if that's what I do. But I think, yeah, he's trying to change the players of interest, I think, bringing in the key Odie and then stuff. Yeah. And I think I prefer that too. So if you went a defensive one across Kelleha, defensive, would it be? I went defensive, I probably go Kelleha, yeah. Yeah. Interesting. So what free Brent, did you start with? At the moment, I've got Tiago, Dango and I've got Sengari in at the moment, but yeah, I've talked myself out of that one today. So I love you, Tom. I love all of our correspondents. What's needed in the window? Do you need something? I mean, Scott Debt actually looks really good this season. Another winner would be good. I mean, the right side is a little bit. I mean, you've got Keanu Loose, but obviously you can play left side left back and left wing. I mean, you can play anywhere. Yeah, true. It's unbelievable. Jade Nanti, I think, can actually play both sides as well, but I think he's more suited to the left hand side. Would be nice to get another right wing you're in. I think just a little bit of additional cover. Yeah, it would be good. Probably a full back as well. Just because as much as I love him relying on Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey for another season, and yeah, they both just so have been so injury prone over the last few seasons. I'm just a little bit worried if we don't get another one in. Again, if Michael Cody goes out, then I mean, Hickey is covering both sides. Rico Henry's on the left. You've got Kaide as well and obviously Keanu is Potter, but yeah, with Hickey and Henry's injury record, it's just a little bit of a worry if we don't get another one in there. Okay. Put it in place, start them. Keller and go. Kaide with Collins and I in the middle. I'm going to go with Aaron Hickey, I think, on the left. I'm looking, Janneau with Yents in the head of them and then Dango, Tiago and Chardy. So Sangari, not in your predictor game at one line up? No. Right, good. So now they can blame you rather than me. Thank you. I think Louis Potter will start game week one. It's based on the idea at the moment as per the previous podcast, Tottenham don't have anyone to play right wing at the moment. I think they'll try and take advantage of that side and be quite aggressive with it. Because it starts and might change by the time we get there. Okay, brilliant. Thank you Tom. Wish you very best of luck for the season. I think your first COTC is with Lee before Game with Six during the international break and I know a lot of you going to wire card at that point. So Sangari really is the one. Oh, I have no idea. We'll be there Tom and we can go inside. If he starts game week one, I'll probably have him game week two. Knowing you, you forget to touch the table. It'll just be there as bust captain. Yeah, he's going to game week one and probably score a hat trick. Talking of Game week one captains next up on Correspondent Week is Johnny Pringle discussing Manchester City with a new manager and a title they will want to regain. See if Johnny thinks they can do it and the best city assets going forward. That sees me as eight. Tom, thanks my friend. And good luck for the season from Game week two onwards. Smash it like everyone. Hit the sub button. CUME USIT PLEASE, MAN CHOT. The fantastic football show. The ball is a game where Johnny thinks he's a good player. D-N-A-P-S-T-A-S. That's how the team goes. If you're going to play it, what the hell is going on? We'll be playing D-N-A-C-T-U-H-T-A-N. Oh, yeah, that's right. So, let's go.

Summary:

Keskustelussa Brentfordin kirjeenvaihtaja Tom kertoo seuran tilanteesta kauden puolivälissä.

Brentfordin tavoitteena on sijoittua Eurooppaan oikeuttaville paikoille.
