Yeah, I've got my family I've got my very close friends, but I've also been wanting to like have just little Interactions outside of that and and do other things to stimulate myself outside of my little World and this isn't necessarily this is still within my little world, but guess what? Is about to take place what in my life? What? Stephanie put together 30 of her favorite films of all time and We are gonna start watching a movie a week This of her favorites and some of the greats. Oh god. Do you have the list as she made the list? She did Do you have it on your phone? Can I do? Oh my god. I don't have my phone on me. It's all the way over there I wouldn't know how I could possibly get my phone. I wonder if there'd be any Mr. Thomas and he wouldn't line us and my shoes would be on them. Oh cute. You don't like it How dare you? That was a sincere all-cute. Okay, so can I say something and then see if they're on there? Okay, sure These now these are 70s top 30 movies of all time No, not necessarily her top 30, but she put this list together in a very thoughtful way But it's the point of it so that you're experiencing Stephanie some of her favorites or things she thinks you would like It's everything. It's like start conversations together Yeah, like to just really up your pop culture knowledge of filling some of these void You know what bridesmaids, you know it might surprise you. Yeah, I Actually know more now about pop culture and Hollywood stuff Then I did when I first moved to L.A. 30 years ago. Oh Yeah, I know but people you know it is My it is real this part of me. Yeah But you know more than I know so like if you could have met me when I first got to this Even down to Fashion like I don't think I'd ever heard of Gucci right. It just was not like certain things. Yeah We're not On my radar and I know it's so hard for people to understand I was like coming from the mountains of Colorado. Yeah, I had a beard up in the mountains. Yeah, and like It's your mountain goats I'm your bike everywhere people. Yeah, I rode I had a mountain bike where I was just cycling around town Yeah with hairy legs Hairy legs. Okay. I said guys, man. You said bridesmaids. I'm gonna say That one flew over the cook who's nest is on there May is correct. I'm not me. Bridesmaids is one that she loves. Okay, but It's not on here. I think she kind of won away from most comedies because I'm not crazy about Really comedy? Taxi driver. Yeah, the last picture show. Oh, carnal knowledge carnal knowledge dog day afternoon. Oh, yeah, what? I don't know half the dog day afternoon's incredible. Yeah, she loves the 70s I'm from the 70s and I happen to love the 70s. Yeah, and I feel like that was when I I feel like that's when I kind of dropped out of Yeah, yeah, when things got a little too bubble gummy. Yeah in ways. There's a documentary on grit Yeah, that's an era. I'm just not as familiar with in media the 70s. I documentary on Netflix about Cinema in the 70s. It's so good. Yes, it's about sort of yeah, the cultural context is really good. Yeah. Yeah, I just love it Yeah, it feels very I feel like music. Yeah, sitcoms movies. Yeah, we're just sweet spot What happened was it like cocaine came around in the 80s and I don't know what it was addictive back then Yeah, leg warmers. I was talking to an actress who said like back in back when it first kind of came on the scene It was everywhere. Was that a moral stream? But she just said like no one knew how addicting. Yeah, it was but like everyone was doing it. Yeah, such a such a while Was she sniffing when she was telling you? You know, we didn't know. Yeah, but then but then like came the fallout eventually. Yeah, like it really messing up Do people's lives? Is it still very popular? Well, it's now it's so much to wear about fentanyl. Yeah, that's the big problem That's it's so not worth even taking the risk doing a there there are people who do like one bump. Yeah, and can die Yeah, there's so much I'm so scared because I've never done coat But just I just know it's an issue right now with fentanyl. Yeah, and so why Would drug people put fentanyl and coke? This is my big I don't understand. I need to go right but it doesn't have at all the same effective. I know, but also Aren't you losing your cousin? Exactly. That's why I don't understand. They're gonna die. Yeah, I don't get that because they're cut it They're cutting it so much and putting other stuff in it But wouldn't you cut it with some of the wooden kill people so they I don't understand I don't understand why they're cutting it with that I will say I once bought and I maybe was 15 and bought coke and uh it was for sure this
- The kid had just put a packet of sweet and low sweetened to a little bag. I remember tasting it and being like, this is-- - Shhh, how did you pay for sweet and low? - God, probably 80 bucks or something. - Oh, man. - And we're gonna try to go to buy drugs. - Comedy clubs. That's where, no, I actually, what happened was, there was a friend of mine who was a really sweet kid and he, his friend's uncle was in the Hell's Angels. And was like, leaving town and was like, basically like, I can't come back, there's people after me, but left his nephews that go clean out my apartment and I left something for you under the sink. This is in my life what happened. First, I found it with older men, comedians who I did it with and then this close friend of mine, under the sink, the him and his friend found just like a brick of probably $100,000 worth of coke. And that was the gift from the uncle to the son. And it just ruined my friend's life 'cause they were like great, we can be coke dealers and then got mixed up and all kinds of stuff. But that, I was so close to him that I was like, can I have a huge amount of it and I'll pay you back. And then that was the beginning. - Oh my gosh. - Yeah, yeah. Well, that's unfortunate that uncle did that. - Yeah, I know, yeah. - Is that like derailed number of people? - But I mean, I'm so grateful that I didn't encounter, I dodged it, well, I am lucky, I think. - Well, I think it's more of today's time. - Yeah. - Back then. - Like the world today needs fentanyl? - No. - Like with everything AI and the politics, the wars, the racism, the throwing fentanyl. - Yeah. - That's crazy. - Yeah. - Yeah, I've known some friends, you know, cousin or a family member. They weren't like drug people. They like, you know, did it recreationally at like a party. - It is not and worth that. - That's it. - Yeah. - How did we get onto that? - I don't know, I don't know. - I don't know. - I will say that, and maybe I've said it before, but when I was in high school, they had, do you know the Gatlin brothers are? - No. - The country's thing. - Country group. - Right. - Yeah. - Larry Gatlin, who is one of the Gatlin brothers, he had a drug addiction, I think he was a coped addict. And he came to our school and talked about his history with drugs and how he's now sober and how you can turn it around. And I remember as a kid sitting there thinking, this is not the way to go. You need to parade people on stage who cannot kick this. - Oh, that's interesting. - You know. - Like why? - She was too aspirational on the list. - Yeah, it's like if you look at this and you go, oh, if I do drugs, I can turn it around. - Right, that's interesting. - Yeah. - Huh. - Remember, did you ever smoke banana peels? You know, that was the thing when you're kid. - Let's go to commercial. (laughing) - What do you mean when you're, that was the thing in middle school people were like, if you dry out banana peels, you'll smoke them. - I've never heard of it. - Yeah, it's nothing happened. - I was very sheltered from that kind of stuff, yeah. You were doing announcements in this title, tell. - Hey, yo, we're made it out. - Hey, yo. - We got banana peels. - We got banana peels in a tiny town. I mean, that's a lot of weird stuff. - That's true. - Like what else should we do? How about we smoke banana peels? - Alcohol is more of a thing. Drugs really, when I was growing up, only the kids at the private school could afford that kind of stuff. - Right. - Like, there was only like, people were smoking some weed, and it was mainly alcohol. - Yeah. - Well, that was the disaster was that I, like no teenager should have disposable income, like that. And I was doing comedy, so I had cash on it. - Yeah. - Yeah. - You were rich. - I feel like when I was a kid. (laughing) (upbeat music) - I'm getting really serious about my nightly, wind down routinely. Low lights and phone face down. Like the experts say to do. But I take it further. Potential savings vary subject to terms, conditions and availability, all state, North American insurance company and affiliates, North Brook, Illinois. - I feel like when I was a kid, whatever grade people start smoking pot, they were just, they were known as like, the stoners and like, kind of not cool. - Right. - Yeah, there's a couple of guys, everyone. - There was almost like a loser vibe, right? And then somewhere, it's snuck into everything and then it was just like everybody smokes pot and it's cool and it's fine and I can't quite figure out when that kind of bled into, but maybe it was just the area I lived in and just smoking pot was cool and great. - But I was also in the air of say no to drugs. - Yeah, just say no. - Yeah, just say no, that was a Nancy Reagan thing. - Yeah, yeah. - But I wonder what Gen Z and Gen A, I guess? Like now that it's legal, it's not a counter culture. They're not drinking and weed is not a counter culture thing anymore. It's like, yeah, so I wonder what they're-- - That's what I mean. It's just, I hope their thing is going off grit. I hope that that's their form of rebellion. - It's like I don't want to be controlled by these devices. - That'd be so cool. - Yeah, who knows? - I think there's signs of that. - Really? - I mean, not big enough signs, but they're definitely-- - Yeah. I saw something, I don't know if this is true, but I saw several people commenting on this because someone was talking about the different, millennial versus Gen Z, Gen Z is the first group to not test above the generation before them. - IQ-wise? - IQ-wise. - Eeeh. - But isn't IQ what you're born with? - No. - I don't know, whatever the, there's got to be a fact out there. - Yeah, I think I've heard the word. - It's ringing about. - But it's something like, some study in some sort said they didn't test, it's the first generation that hasn't somehow scored beyond the one in front. - And when you say Gen A, is that Gen Alpha? - Yeah, like, which I guess not some fair Gen Alpha. - Remember being on like the subway or the bus and everyone's reading a book or like journaling or just sitting and thinking and, and it even used to be like, get your nose out of that book and like these bookworms and now I'm like, I would give anything. Or I'm in awe of people who read books and I can't book. - I know, I love books. - It's been so long since I read a book. - That's Mr. Thomas. - Yeah, he's read one a week or more. - Yeah, Thomas is doing these book recommendations. - Oh, are you still doing those Thomas? - I think I'm gonna do it again, yeah. - That's awesome. - That's awesome. - Great. - I wanna go back and read the books that inspired me as a teenager and stuff that, yeah. - What inspired you? - Dusty Epski, it was all him. It was like, and I guess a bit of Thomas Hardy and stuff, like the, yeah, but mine was Mary Higgins Clark. [BLANK_AUDIO]
that. She writes like, you know, crime not like romance and crime novels like like with Fabio on the cover. What is her name? Mary Higgins Clark. Wait, is that love pieces? It's funny that she went with I'm gonna put the Higgins in as well. I'm gonna see what her name was. I think was her granddaughter Elizabeth? I have no idea. I think her granddaughter. I think you wrote 51. Her granddaughter is Elizabeth? Yeah, I'm friends with her granddaughter. Oh really? Yeah, she's married to my friend Lauren. Oh for a couple of lesbos. When I was going out, everyone, not like my friends, it was the mom. Yeah. We're reading them, but it says each of her 51 books was a best seller in the U.S. Yeah, listen, don't be mesmerizing as Clark. She knows why we know her. And if it's gonna get me back into reading, like maybe I got to start with page turners like that just to break the seal. I need to get back into it. Well, I do know her granddaughter, as I mentioned. So is this real? That is real. Oh cool. Yeah, good for you Elizabeth. Just too white and reicons. Just you white. You know that? No? Are you serious? Two against my fair lady. She's like, when you yell, you're gonna drown. I'll get dressed and go to town. Oh, you watch my fair lady is so long. Oh, it's so good. It's Audrey Hepburn, but they dubbed over her singing voice with julie andres. Oh, because they thought she couldn't carry the songs. Well, that's. Yeah, that's rude. It's the rain in Spain fools mainly. I have heard that for the reason that it's one of the few musicals I don't. I'm not familiar with my grandpa toured with it. He played someone in it and he toured for years with it. So your grandfather was touring. He was touring. Your grandmother was the agent. Yeah, your dad makes puppets. Yeah, super creative. Yeah, I mean lucky. My uncle's a painter. Wow. Look at you. You guys Halloween's coming. Oh, my God, girl. Yeah, it is. It's burped. You burped in your transition in the conversation. I liked it. I mean, Halloween a couple days. Yeah, and October 31st. What is today? 27th. 27th. 27th. 27th. Today. And it's not any earlier than that. It is for sure. The 27th. What are you guys doing? Do you know? Are you going to take the boys out? I just want to get all the kids I know and I want to just watch them trick or treat. Is that weird or just beer? I'm at the age where I want to just hand out candy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. My my sons are so into Halloween. Yeah. We watch Hocus Pocus. That's like an annual Halloween movie. I haven't seen it. Put it on your 30. Make it 31 movies. Yeah. Don't tell me what to do. I'm just telling you. It's the time to watch a movie like that. Would I like really knowing me when I like Hocus Pocus. You think you think that middle or catty in a gym? I don't care who's in it. Like I love all those people. I don't know if they would be into it. I get very angry very quickly. Yeah. Cause this one's not whimsical like you, but it's legitimately funny. I don't know, but it's one you can watch with with the boys. I think it's calm. I think it's exactly like it. I see why you like it. It's perfect. I don't know that you would like it, but maybe you should watch to see just keep in mind some of my favorites are like bridge over the river. What is the Bjork movie? Oh, yeah, don't turn the dancer in the dark. I mean, it's one of my favorites. Oh my god, you're not gonna like. And boys don't cry. Oh, fuck yeah. Yeah. That's that's so good. I can't be out. Boys not well, of course, but it's so it's so extraordinary. Hocus Pocus that is I have my first sex dream, which I swear. I swear I saw these characters. I was kidnapped by the three wood and I must have been six or seven. I had this dream and I didn't know what it meant. I didn't know yet to be embarrassed about it. And it was that they kidnapped me. I was and they were going to eat me for dinner and that they they I was I remember that I was naked on a table and that they sliced my ass like a meatloaf like with it. Isn't that how you seen Tom Petties music video for don't come around here no more. No, what's the way? Was that the way they're cutting in? They're cutting into snow white. Oh, as a cake. That's right. Whoa. Yeah. Well, I love that. I woke up in the morning. I was like, I need to have that dream again. I was someone about that dream. Then I I didn't know yet. Like guys, I got to go to bed. I'm going to try to have that dream where those witches eat my ass. They were all free just chowing down on your ass. Well, it was I just remember that. Yeah, they I remember that I was naked, which was wild. And that I was in there like witches cabin. And they were like, I never thought I would hear you say I was naked. So that was wild. I don't mind being naked. No. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For you. This is a light soft body over here. You say that. Light soft baby. No way. I turn all the lights on bright. And I'm like, I'm taking my clothes off in here. I was going to tell you all. Tell us. Tell us. Please tell us. No, never mind. No, we want it. No, never mind. No, we want it. I really can't remember, but that is a fun. Yeah. Let's just keep doing that. Yeah. I don't know. Well, let me think about it. Well, no, you're supposed to. Please. It was a story about someone to eat your ass. What's it? What are you going to do for Halloween? Are you going to hand out candy? No, no, no. There's so much that goes on. They have, they have, you know, friends have yearly parties. Yeah. Yeah. And then there's also the situation where one kid lives on a street that gets shut down and then they can freely run from house to house and dream. And then we give them walkie talkies. That's great. Yeah. So with, with, with each other or with you, with, with us. Oh, great. Yeah. Yeah. Cause they don't have phones rounding the corner. No, they don't have phones. Oh my gosh. I, they're, they're, they're 10 and try to prolong that as well. Yeah. Yeah. I bet kids in their class already do. Who? I bet some kids in their class already. No. Oh, that's good. No. I think that, um, you know, what people have talked about with those kind of situations is it's important for parents to all get on the same page within the same grade and class. Yeah. So that, um, nobody's kind of doing out or, or nobody's doing anything outside of, yeah. What the, the group is doing. Yeah. So they're can't be like, but they have one or that, you know, Barb's daughter has a thing called a tin can phone. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Like a landline that it's disabled after 8 p.m. I think. And you, but yeah, it's so, it's so great. And there's just like select people that she can contact that can contact her. Exactly. Just a couple of calls. Yeah. Yeah. We've talked about getting that, um, in Colorado, a lot of kids, um, their age and even younger will have iPhone or I watch it or Apple watches, um, that where they can only text or call their parents and their parents can track where they are. Yeah. Yeah. And you see these little kids going, I'll be home in like 10 minutes. And then so they're not on their phone. That's good. Or watches or whatever it is. Do you remember being on your landline and your parents being like, get off the phone, like kicking out. Yeah. And then I always sometimes I would like hear breathing and be like, I think my parents are listening. Yeah. You know, you never know if you're sibling or you're parents on there. But also the fear of having to call somebody else's house and ask their parents to talk to your friend. Can I talk to Sarah? I'm like, you have no idea in this generation. And also the mystery of picking up a phone like who is going to be? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I used to call my friend Gabby all this time and her mom would always pick up and I go, uh, hi, Rhona, how are you? Can I talk to Gabby please? And she wouldn't say hello or anything. She just go, Gabrielle, like that. Every time in town, Gabrielle. There it is. It is so interesting how now it's, oh, I mean, I guess there's some mystery sometimes when somebody gets your phone number. It's like an unknown number. Yeah, but we're just like, hey, Tig, it's so. And it's like, oh, yeah. But the mystery of not no. And then also like, if you're or my parents would go out for dinner and they'd leave the phone number, the restaurant called us. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't do that. No, by neither. My senior of high school, we got caller ID who was like one of the
We were one of the first ones to have it. And then I realized one of my friends is calling like 30 times. - Really? - Pen calling you? - No, like kind of stalker-ish. And I was like, holy cow. But they didn't know we, you know? - You could know and had color ID back then. Somehow we got it. And so you could just call, call, call someone. You never know who it was. - Yeah. - I was like, oh, I think my friends is stalker. - Were they just like breathing down the line? - They didn't leave a voice. - Oh, they wasn't like in love with you? - Yeah, why don't know? In hindsight, maybe? - Yeah. - But they didn't leave a voice message. But it was just like a constant calling to see if I was home. - Yeah. Or you could do star six seven to hide your number when you called. - I didn't know about that. - Or star six nine to see who just called. - Mom was just like, good lord. - Yeah. - What's going on here? - I don't know. - Before I was aware of star 69 and stuff like that, my mother and my stepfather had moved back to this area we lived briefly when I was young. And when I went to visit them, I was of course thinking about who I had gone to school with and my old neighbors. And I remembered that in our family phone book we had still, it was just in the pages. The phone book to our old school. - Oh, no way. - And just my family just kept it in there forever. - Yeah. - And there was somebody that, from back then, where I was like, no. I decided to-- - Call their family home. - Call. And just see it like I asked if he was there. And he said this is, and I hung up. - No way. - And then my phone rang. - Oh my God. - Oh my God. - These star 69s. - And I didn't know that existed. - Oh God. - And so I'm like, hello. And it was like, who is this? And I said, TIG. He goes, TIG, no taro? - Oh my God. - Yeah. And then he said who he was? My mind exploded. - I didn't understand how he got my, I was like, held for you at this point? - I was like 19 or something. Anyway, it was, it was, it was my big learning curve because I was, I, I, I did not understand what on earth was happening. - Yeah. - Which craft. - Yeah. Like, you know, like George Costanza did a song? Uh-huh. Like what? I never left a voicemail for myself. My friend Nicole, her answering machine for a while, when we all first got cell phones, was she got her teacher, Mr. Tulang, to record it. And he didn't really know what he was doing and I remember. So her voicemail was always, "Enacol, this is Mr. Tulang speaking. Have a nice weekend, but do your homework at home, okay? Use some time to study. I'll remember it the whole day." Oh my god. And that was her outgoing message? That was fun. Yeah, so. Oh my god. I used to have an outgoing message where I would say, "Hi, this is TIG. Leave a message at the beat if beep. If this is an emergency, hang up now and call 911." Yeah, that's great. Yeah, very practical, yeah. Well, should we get to our question? Yeah, let's do it. Yeah, yeah, let's do it. Today's question Oscar has appeared in movies like The Social Network and Zootopia 2. Yeah. As well as shows like Scandal, New Girl, and Running Point. Brenda Song is asking today's question. Woo! Hi handsome podcast. It's Brenda Song. My question is, what is the thing that you feel people misunderstanding is confusing about you? Mm. By the way, Brenda and I just filmed a movie together. Yeah, cool. Yeah. What, what, what, what? It's a movie with me, Brenda Song, Nikki Glazer, and Kim Kardashian. Yeah. Oh, well, yeah. When does that come out? Sometimes next year. I don't know. We shot a couple things recently, but Brenda's so fun. That's a great question. Working forever. Yeah, totally. She's been working since she was a kid, married to McCulley Culkin. I have a beautiful family, but she's so lovely. And I've been really enjoying it as getting to be friends with her. Oh, that's nice. Nice. And I really like that question. Yeah, what is something people misconceive about you? I feel like a whole big part of why I do this job is like a desire to be understood and to not have assumptions made about me, like, I think that's probably a big part of it. Yeah, okay. Do you tell your own story? Yeah, and yeah. Yeah, that makes sense. Did you just burp again? I did. Yeah. What's going on? Oh, it's just sparkling wine. I don't drink a lot of sparkling wine. Yeah. There's silent verbs, but Ting is right here looking at my mouth. How come people don't do that in movies? Well, I see a little bit of a kick back. What's that? People should do that more in movies. It's such a human thing, the burp on a transition. Well, did I tell you when I was filming Juan Mississippi, there was an extra that had the hiccups? No, this is great. She was so embarrassed. Because she was like, oh my god. Like, so, and it was making me laugh. And she was like, I'm so sorry. And I go, I actually would love to just have this happening. Yeah, of course, didn't. But yeah, it was so funny to me. Because this poor woman was so stressed out that she was holding up the production, but it couldn't have made me happier. Yeah, stuff is hard to stuff, though. You know when a hiccup hits you and you're unprepared and your mouth is open or something? It's like, oh, I get so loud. No. Yeah. One thing people misunderstand about me, I always get the feedback that I'm so vulnerable or like I appear very vulnerable. And I feel like, I think I'm doing okay. You don't think you're vulnerable? I think I am. But do they mean that in the terms of you being willing to share about yourself? What do you mean by vulnerable? As people being like, hey, little guy, you're okay. You know, I'm like, I know, I know, you know what I mean? I see. I mean, I definitely am open about flaws and stuff, but I think I'm like, you're stronger than people. You're not like, I'm not fragile, I'm not fragile. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I can see people worrying about that with you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's a little infantilizing sometimes. Yeah. But you don't, I get that. But I don't, you don't seem like somebody that can't take it or deal with or, but I mean, really? Yeah. I think it's a nice mix of like, yes, you have vulnerabilities, but I mean, who does? Who does? But I'm, you're not like some meat person. No, I'm not going to like crumble if I get heckled or if I, you know what I mean? Yeah. Teased? Teased? Yeah. Yeah, I can see that. People having that thought of you, because I've had some people every, like once in a blue moon, be like, tell me to, like, stand up for themselves or whatever, or whatever in life, like, I'm like, may it's fine? Yeah. I don't think, you know what I mean? Yeah. You know what it is? There's so many people, especially listening to a show, and you get so thinking you know people, you know, performers, and you project so many people project their own stuff. Their own thing that like, oh my gosh, I'm vulnerable to, and this would make me uncomfortable, or this would hurt my feelings. Yeah. I guess also, I don't often talk about like times where I've been a dick, or where I'm like, I hurt someone by accident or something. You know what I mean? Or on purpose. Or on purpose all those times. Yeah. Yeah, it is, it's, it's, it's so, whether it's people listening to a show or watching a public figure doing their thing, people do project onto them, and make so many assumptions. Yeah. And, and it's, I mean, I, it's, it's, you can't help it. It's like, you, you, I know for myself, there are people that I've followed or been familiar with, and then I meet them, and I'm like, wow. Yeah. They are nothing. Yeah. I think what I thought they would be like, yeah, they're, they're,
They're more fun than I thought they'd be or they're so boring I think we are pretty close to who we are in this I mean on this podcast it I think so it's evolved too I feel like we're all really authentically ourselves on this podcast now which is so nice what do people misunderstand about you guys I mean people definitely think I'm a stoner really I get that a lot when I post videos they'll be like you must be high. I've got not. Yeah, yeah, they're like what what did you smoke before this? That's hilarious that the southern draw. Honestly, it's the southern draw. I have skinny eyes and it's my sense of humor. I have a like silly. Yeah Since if you were and I say things that one might say if they were high. Like yeah, it's like a cartoony. Yeah, yeah, like I'm just like a little absurd sometimes. Yeah, so I but to be told I don't like I have enough vices with food and sugar Drugs are not I've never done any hard drugs. Uh, I have smoked weed, you know every day of my life once in a blue moon But it is not a even a monthly part of my life. But people smoke weed to get to where you guys already are I don't need I'm so calm already. Yeah, I mean every now and then I get wound up about stuff but May I'm not ever needing to come down. Yeah, it's a party pretty chill. Uh, so yeah, that's definitely something that is not me. Um I know I was gonna say sometimes people don't take me seriously, but I do feel like the pod has shown this the the silly side of me, but I think I also show You're more vulnerable. Yes. Well, also your nicknames LLC Or like you're like you're goofy, but you're very topped in and tuned in to and in control of your world and your life. Yeah, I think that yeah, maybe that was surprised people. Yeah, I'm definitely more business minded than one might assume Being as silly as I am I take work very seriously and And saving money and being responsible and being smart with that stuff. I take very seriously Kind of that stems from just trying to not make the mistakes that my family made. Yeah, um, so I think that's why it becomes very important to me Uh, so yeah, they probably that probably would surprise people. Yeah, um L. L. S. Yeah, for god's sake The anxious love and oh, yeah, and easy to Kind of think there's anything else that I sure there's so many things that would surprise people about Each of us. Yeah, I'm sure yeah, like a list Yeah, yeah, because of the projection. Yeah, because of the assumptions. Well people always Think to me of you as so dry and and maybe if they've just seen some of a standout special or something and don't listen to the pod Maybe but I'm like you're you're a very emotionally available person. Mm-hmm. That's been a yeah. I I'm uh I am. Yeah, I am very much a soft. Yeah, and um, I You know, I for sure have a side of me that is protective and I've gone into this before and I've I've come a long way Yeah, even to find myself at a place where people would think I'm not Yeah, but I am I am I am yeah, and uh I guess that would Surprise people maybe not but I feel like like this podcast wouldn't work if We all didn't feel safe to be set to Throw random shit in and be silly and you you gotta know that yeah, yeah, no, let me I'm curious about this Do you get your you don't strike me as someone who gets your feelings hurt easily It depends on the situation. Yeah, like if it's if it's something if somebody Doesn't like my comedy or doesn't like or thinks I'm not good at something or whatever. I'm always like Yeah, yeah Yeah, I'm fine with that or or they don't like how I do something I don't I don't I don't take that stuff personally. Yeah, I got annoyed when people feel the need to articulate that. I'm like Yeah, I get I mean I always behind all of that kind of stuff I do always feel like well, then I'm not for you. Yeah, this isn't for you. Yeah, um, but I just that stuff doesn't bother me that's not to say and I think I've talked about this too That I don't want to do a good job or have people like what I do, but if they don't Yeah, I you don't call it up on that. No because there's so many people There are people where I'm like that is the nicest smartest person. I know I don't like what they do. Yeah creatively and But man do I dig them. Yeah as a person. Yeah, 100% and uh so Thinking about it for myself. I I actually would love to sit down with people critiquing me really. Oh, I love it. I just said I'm not fragile, but like I don't know Well, I just I would I find it curious and interesting Yeah, not because I want to change their mind, but like I'm so interested Why do you think I'm not funny? Yeah, not because I think everyone should Or why do you think that was guarded of me or or rude or whatever it is that people think Because I just it wouldn't offend me at all. Yeah I would just have an open conversation of like oh well It's like when I've had shows where somebody brought somebody With them to and they're not familiar with me and I can tell front row. Yeah, they cannot stand me And then I and I say like I I feel like I hear I'm not for you and they're like yeah You know, yeah, yeah, and then I'll be like that's I'm you know, I'm not for everybody and that's fine And I'm and I'll also say like I'm happy to refund you your ticket And then I'm like I'm not offended. I'm curious like who do you like and and what does speak to you to what do they say? You know, they'll they'll just be like well, you know, I just I like I guess I like more Political stuff or I like people with more energy or I'm like oh, yeah I just think it's interesting. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I don't take it personally, but if somebody really close to me Um hurts my feelings. Uh-huh. It's really painful. Yeah And um and that's where it's yeah, you feel things Where I really feel it. So when you're invested in yeah, but of course, and I don't want to sound like I like if I put out a TV show or movie or stand up and people just panda that I would be like You can't just come yet. It would be like well, that's a bummer. Yeah, but It wouldn't take me down. Mm-hmm. You can't you have to because otherwise you would just be trying to make come Like something to please everyone and we're already with AI and stuff We have to make sure we don't become the machine, which is just trying to Yes, it's like you have got to have your point of view. Yeah, you have to do what really interests you and and um and it's and Explore creatively and and specificity and like and take a risk to be terrible. Yeah, you know Because yeah, when it gets to that like generic algorithm. Yeah, it's that's why it's so exciting when you see a comedian or musician that pops up and you're like Oh my gosh. Yeah, this is what are you doing? Yeah, it's so exciting. Yeah, I always go back to Maria Bamford Maria Bamford. Yeah, I was just watching a clip of Julio Torres Yeah, and loving He was talking about People got mad at him for not entering emails and he was like I think of emails like a river and so if I'm there At the river side and an email floats by sure. Oh, I'm interested. Oh pick it up But if it's already gone like I'm not Yeah But yeah, why would you want some little weirdo in the world like it has totally exactly and then also comedians or performers or again, I don't get it. Yeah, I'm all for them. Yeah, yeah, watch something else Listen to something else by a different album. Yeah, and move on That's like understanding about you though maybe a little of the people or him or or the like Um, my level like not pen it like nothing really penetrates I think maybe is like but actually some things too If it's on a very personal close level. Yeah, you you could really hurt my feelings. Yeah, okay But like if somebody walked out saying you suck Yeah, I hated your show and you should never work again. Yeah, I would not fight that No, I would just be like yeah That for sure so many people would think that Yeah, and um, and that's fine, but whatever People misunderstand you kind of can't get to hung up on it. Right. Yeah Um, yeah, or trying to prove yourself or yeah Yeah, but I would say I mean, I don't think there's a lot of misconceptions about me personally
yeah, maybe you guys feel the same way by yourself. I kind of feel like what I'm putting out there. Pretty close to who I am. Yeah. I don't, you know, like, so there's some performers that are like a completely different person. No, there's not a huge gap. There's not a big like, yeah. I mean, I could be a little quieter sometimes than maybe people would assume. I think sometimes everyone kind of assumes I'm the life of the party always. Yeah. And that's definitely not the case. We've talked about it before, you know, with cheese in my pocket. Sure, at a party by the snack table. I think also to go back to, and I know you've dealt with this is like the boochiness. Yeah. Like, like, yes, there's no mistaking that I am a gay person. But oh my gosh, if I not but she says so many ways, my ex, maybe I've mentioned this. She was telling Stephanie, she goes, when I first started dating TIG, I was like, awesome. I am with a butch. She's going to carry everything. And she goes, and I was the Sherpa lugging our suitcases around. And I don't go quite that far. Well, to be fair, that girl friend was like six feet tall. And she should be carrying stuff. I mean, I'll still do like things like open the door for, you know, like, I will kill, but I'll do that for anybody. I will kill them if I have to, but it's not my favorite kill what spiders. Oh, see, I grabbed my little shaky paw and throw it down. But I know that is, but I'm not building things. What is all this? I'm not fixing things. Yeah, building things. Yeah. I mean, I'll go to like home depot and stuff. And, you know, I can do some things. I can paint walls and patch holes and things like that. Yeah. I'm not like, I'm not like one of those, yeah, those real butch lesbians that are tankering with trucks and stuff. No, you need like some elbow room. Excuse me, I'm coming in here. I'm not, yeah. Yeah. I mean, I, I used the, the, the, the, the puffer, the saw. You mean for the last volleyball, like electric hedge trimmer. Oh, you used to that. I did. I, I trimmed my, your what? My bushes. Yeah. I trimmed my bush with it. Sure. I had to charge it for a while. Yeah, I trimmed my ficus with it. Why aren't you staring at me like that? But didn't we have a joke about ficus? I feel like we should have some ficus here. I mean, that's not not butch. But all those things in a salt. What do you call those things? A hedge trimmer. Yeah. You're too much of a little lady to know what you're something. Yeah. I always get, well, yeah, no one thinks I'm by. And so, wait, I'm sitting here talking about how I'm not butch with my mustache on. Yeah. Anyways, go ahead. I mean, I do think that surprises people when they find out you are by. They don't even believe it. Yeah. But I, so I always feel the need to wave that banner pretty heavily. Cause like, like, yeah, there's so many by people who you don't think are by. Yeah. I listen, I love a by person. I love everybody. Should we get to Brenda's answer? Yeah. Let's hear what she's got to say. I feel like people always think that I'm a super girly girl, which I am. I love shopping and all the things, but I'm like a real tomboy. I love cars. I love sports go rams. Um, and I also feel like people always think that I am taller than I am. I'm 5152 on a good day, depending on how big my hair is. This is tiny. Brenda's tiny. So she's butchier than we are. Brenda is butchier than us. What, like loves, loves, loves sports. Did the like, uh, like was on a, for the, is a huge rams fan. And it was doing like the game day, calling of the, the game. I don't know what you, like, play about plays and stuff. Oh, cool. See this little girlfriend. I don't know, girlfriend. See, like I'm this five, five one gal. Yeah. Cause she does, cause she does present very feminine with the nails and the, and always is very put together. And with the husband. Drive this big ass car. Like, yeah, just, it's so funny. Yeah. I really liked, um, swimming in that conversation of, um, presumptions. Yeah. It's, it's, it's just, there's so much, especially if you like, pinpoint it specifically to this podcast, it would be interesting to hear what our listeners assume about us. Yeah. Maybe they can post or maybe what they post and what they assumed in the beginning that they now. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because even still with listening to a podcast or following a band or an actor or whatever it is, um, you still don't know that. Yeah, totally. Yeah. So that would be an interesting thing to, um, to, if we spent like an episode of, like, questions like that or, or like, Oh, I thought this about May or if somebody wrote in said, actually, yeah, May's vulnerable, but I think May can, can handle them. Yeah. Yeah. I never saw May that way. I actually thought this. Yeah. Um, let us know. Yeah. Yeah. It's really fascinating. Just like, even walking around, we don't know what's going on with anyone. I like, I try to approach everyone as if they're having the worst day of their life, like, and just with that amount of empathy, because you just don't know what people are going through. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. We got deep again, you guys. We can't help ourselves. We can't help. We can't help. We're just deep, deep for kids. And man, point out, I didn't get that dirty. Uh, you can do anything in trying to make a bus show, but it didn't feel to that dirty. But give it a few more other. What is this made out of? I don't know. Yeah. Thunder armor. I thought you said thunder armor. It's, it's my underarm. We're sure throwing some cooters or some. I know. Well, that's the thing. I love saying the word cooter. As we all know, I love, uh, saying sexual things, but I'm not a dirt like necessarily a dirty person. That's another perfect example, but I like to do it because it gets ticked. It gets a reaction. Yeah. And so I'd say it more for the reaction than I do because I'm a dirty person. But also that is part of the humor and connection of like the different roles. Yeah. Um, yeah. It's like if somebody heard you saying cooter all the time, they were like fortunes just filthy all the time. Yeah. I don't know. That is not it. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's jokes. Yeah. It's dynamics. Didn't you go on hot wings and say cooters? I said cooters so many times. They need it. It would totally cut a lot of it. Yeah. And they kept some luck all in there. Like, can we get more cooters? Yeah. And I watched with my mom and she kept going really. That is for the reason I'm not that dirty. My mom hates it. Yeah. I like cuss or say like it to in that world, but I do it for comedic effect because the reaction makes me laugh. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, I'm not like a, necessarily a dirty person as far as like I'm not cussing all the time or making okay off color. Here's something. Yeah. If you're talking about like things that you do to be funny and whatever. I'll do this. Not just on the podcast, but like I've done this at people's parties or whatever. I'll walk up and I'll be like, I'm bored. Yeah. Like I'm not. Yeah. I just like to see you like. Yeah. Yeah. People's reactions. Yeah. It's one of your tickets. It's a ticket. It's a ticket. Yeah. And it's just like to me, it's as I like to see the idea of going to a party and going, excuse me. I'm really bored. I'm bored. I'm bored. Yeah. And the way you say is funny. I'm bored. You like to sit in this silence too. Yeah. You're very good at that. And awkward squint. Yeah. I enjoy it. What do you guys have coming up? Well, it's funny. You should ask. I am going to be in Olympia, Washington, Fresno, Napa, Wilmington, Delaware, Terrytown, New York, New London, Connecticut, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Steamboat Springs, and Basalt, and always at Largo and Dynasty typewriter, doing my circus shows with no animals.
