Bonus Episode - Advice with Karen and Georgia

Exactly Right Store is running a summer sale from September 3–7, offering up to 30% off all merchandise with code "SummerSale." The episode also delivers humorous and insightful advice on real-life problems: how to navigate turning 30 by focusing on long-term goals rather than immediate success, how to gently encourage an elderly parent to see a doctor through small, supportive steps, baby naming with thoughtful, personalized suggestions, and the art of choosing a meaningful tattoo. One standout suggestion is a creative fusion of the Spice Girls and a humpback whale, humorously recommended as a kitschy yet personal tramp stamp. The team also addresses a relationship dilemma where one partner can’t see a face on the moon — advising a breakup due to poor perception or dismissiveness. A user requests lottery numbers, which the hosts generate with a mix of randomness and fun. Throughout, the show emphasizes empathy, practicality, and humor, reinforcing its mission of offering relatable, heartfelt advice. The episode is sponsored by cars.com, promoting trusted car research, and concludes with a reminder to engage with the audience via email.

That's Karen Kalkera. And this is our bonus advice episode where we solve all of your problems by answering the questions that you submitted to us. We call it "advice with Karen and Georgia" brought to you by cars. Because whether you're trying to find the right car or need life advice, having a trusted source makes it a whole lot easier just to be clear where the trusted source sets us in this situation. All right, this one's so hard, the first one's like the hardest question. I can't even imagine answering this. This is from Emily Jane McGinnis. What advice would you give someone turning 30? Give us the 30-era real real. 30. That's hard. 30. I'm almost double that. So let me think. I think 30 is like, you start to believe you know a bunch of stuff, and we may have talked about this before. This is my theory on when you're in your 30s. It's a real setup because you've got through your 20s, right? You know your dipshit when you're 18. When you go through your 20s, you get to the end of that and you think, now I know everything. And then you become one of those insufferable people who thinks they know everything. And you're actually just 30, where you actually start to realize that you don't know anything. Right. But you should know things. You should, but you won't till probably your early 40s. You're still as dumb as you were when you were 18. But now you just have like a bunch of bills and a shitty job or maybe a great job. You think you're supposed to be doing things with your life, which you don't. You're not. No. It's still too early for all that. Now you're just like solidified some stuff, like now there's ground under your feet. Right. But you still don't know anything. I think the thing, my thing would be to not think about yourself in your 30s. Think about yourself older, like in your 40s, and where do you want to be then? So everything you're doing in your 30s isn't as important as you think, except for the fact that whatever you're doing, you want it to be so that your 40s person will thank you. Because that's the one important part. Perfect advice. Yes. It's just like be aiming in the direction of, but know that isn't one singular path. Right. If you get to the neighborhood of where you want to be, I thought I wanted to be a sick calm actress when I was 24 years old and I moved here to do that. And then I went and actually started auditioning for things. I was like, I want no part of any of this, but I sure did run my mouth about all my dreams and whatever. And it's like, you get to step back and reassess and then go, okay, well, I tried that. It didn't work. And or I didn't like it. So now I'm going to start again and do something. Yeah. Know that your five year plan has to be broken down and rebuilt every three years. Totally. And don't judge your own life based on everyone else's life, even your best friend. Totally different to directories. And it doesn't matter like what your director is right now. It's not going to be what you think it is. It's going to be something totally different for everyone. Yeah. So just relax. And look at yourself from big picture outside of yourself through the eyes of your grandma or someone that really loved you and be nice about it. Yeah. That's so dark. It's true. Okay. You think we did that one? I think so. Okay. Oh, this is hilarious. And I relate to it very much. This one's from @littleengine that can't even on Instagram. It's good. And they wrote in asking, how do you convince a contancress older father to go to the doctor? Oh, I had to do that recently. Did you really? Yeah. What do you do? I'm making you an appointment with this doctor that I have. He's amazing. And I'll meet you there because I knew he wouldn't come if I just told him to. Nice. And then I said, I'll make you the appointment. But he was like, I got it. I got it. And he went. I was really surprised you did. What about you? You're incredible. Your dad probably doesn't want to go to appointments. No. But here's the thing about old Jim. He is a role follower. And he, I think he still has my mother's voice in his head because that's if anybody avoided stuff like that or wasn't going to do their, you know, when you're, you have to get a colonoscopy when you're 40, all those kinds of things. She would just be like, Oh, really? So just you're, you're, you're going to be a rebel with this and then, and then so and so goes undiagnosed. Like she would argue that logic all the time, so I think now, a little bit. Yeah. I think that. And then you have to make it seem like not a big deal. Like just go to the doctor. It's not a big deal. And then step by step, like start from the beginning, like, did you make the appointment? I'll meet you there, like all of those little steps. Yes. You have to be there. Unfortunately, they're like children. Yes. I mean, and also this modern life is very difficult for people to group in the fucking 50s or 60s. Right. We're like, just, just download the app, dad. It's like they don't know what you're talking about most of the time. And be honest, you kind of don't either. Right. So like anything that's like the technical part, it's, I think that's great. Mark, you were just like, Hey, I'll just be there if you have questions. Yeah. Or like, I'll take notes. Or I said, what do you feel better if I were there? And he said, yes. And like, so I went and that was like, yeah, important part. It's good. Yeah. That's really nice. Yeah. You body doubled for old Marty. No. Because also it's like, my dad's in, my dad goes in and won't let us go inside. Right. And my sister's like, right, but he can't repeat anything that the doctor tells him. Exactly. Because he doesn't hear it. He doesn't hear it or remember. Yes. Right. Yeah. Yeah, it's tough. We received a bunch of requests asking our advice about baby names of all things. I mean, they're going to come to the source because what are we known best for? Naming babies. All those babies that we name. Okay. The first one is Golly Hilligan from Instagram says, what should my wife and I name our baby? Golly Hilligan. Obviously. No info. Like, we don't know anything about the baby. No gender. No. Yep. Pick one name. I mean, Golly is a cute first name. Golly. What about Mortimer? Like, if you're going to give us nothing, we're going to give you nothing. What about Richie Rich? Yes. Boy or girl. Okay. And because then people think they're rich, which is all people need these days. Okay. Boom, we did that one. Shmecca from Instagram says, a little mildly, give us a little more information. My baby boy is doing two months and we cannot agree on a name. You decide. Please. But no, like, suggestions. Can I say the first thing that popped in my head? Yeah. It's just trying to think of a man's name of like, what's a good name? Which I would say a name like Mike is a good name, like a solid, old fashioned name. Okay. But I'll be honest. The first name that popped into my head was Buster Posey, who's used to be the catcher for the giants. Buster Posey. Buster Posey. How do we bring back like, Buster is a fucking great name for a boy. Or Lucky. Lucky. Or Sharky. Sharky. I know I did. There was a name in a book. I was listening to recently that I liked a boy's name that I thought sounded strong and normal, but not everyone would have it. But a dozen. That's a good one. No, everyone has that name right? Everyone knows. Oh my god. Corbin. Corbin. Do you like that? Sure. Corbin. After Corbin Bernson from a law and order. Sure. I mean LA law. Sure. Okay. We got that one. I took tip 082 from Instagram asked, I need a name for my baby girl. I have a daughter, Elena, ELNA, and I am due with my second in August. Okay. Girl's name. It's fun. If they want to do ease, like, actually, like Elena's name, do like that. That's fun. Uh-huh. So what's an e-name? Eleanor. Oh, that's a great name too. Yeah, and they can make color and Lenny. And then she can go the rabbits and like later on, you can have a really fun e-mice and men joke. That'd be great. Eleanor and Elena. That's nice combination. Yeah. All right. And Lenny is a very cute. Lenny. You nailed it. Um, you know, Michaela with M-I-C-K-A-Y-L-I-Y-A. That's every channel name. I'm canceling you. It's all canceled. It's all canceled. You can save up to 30% off store-wide on my favorite murder and exactly right March. Now's the time to grab that shirt, tote, hat, koozy, whatever else has been sitting in your cart for the last three months. Head to exactly right store.com and use code summer sale for up to 30% off store-wide. Goodbye. Goodbye. asking. I'm a millennial who got into the two game later in life, the tattoo game. I want a ridiculous tramp stamp to add to my collection. Oh, wow. How come? Why? And so the question is this, spice girls tribute for my favorite animal, a humpback whale. Those are the choices. So let's first of all, we'll go back and forth and we'll talk about that choice and what choice we would make. And then what's the third option they're not considering that maybe would help that choice? Nothing. Is that the third option? Not doing that. If you had to live or die, spice girls humpback whale. Well, tramps, yeah. Obviously humpback whale, because spice girls mean nothing to me. Oh, what's the? Wow. I think we just started some beef here. I mean, not I don't hate them, but they're scruffing nothing. I was in high school that time. I was on drugs. I didn't care when they, you know, it's just like you I have a feeling that you got with lovers, but you didn't care about your friends. Is that true? Maybe that's the problem here. Is that that idea? You felt really called out by that. Okay. So I asked someone with a with a sea themed tramp stamp, an ocean themed tramp stamp. Yes. How do you feel? So you were thinking about yourself. I'm like, what is it? No, you have a salmon. My salmon on in my tramp stamp, I would say this, don't go blue whale. Yeah. You can have favorite animals and not put them on yourself. Sure. If I had a, if blue whale was my favorite animal, I would be putting it like somewhere I could see it. Actually, I think John Array has a blue whale tattoo on his arm. Well, I was just going to say, if it's your favorite animal, you should put it in a place where you can see it. Because I don't realize I have that stupid tramp stamp on my back anymore and I would love to have it removed because it is just dumb and is for nothing. I think there's something to be said for a simple design that's pretty or, you know, cool or whatever as a tramp stamp rather than an actual thing. So what you're saying is the silhouette of all five spice girls. Yeah. But, but in the shape of a whale. Get both. What if the five of them are writing a whale? Oh my God. You fucking sold it. Get that immediately. Send us a photo. We need to see that. Amazing. Okay. You just did that one. We're so good at this. Because, you know why? We care. We're really trying to help people. We do care. But we don't want you to get a tramp stamp. But if you insist, then it has to be a whale with all five spice girls. Isn't it funny that it's like kitschy now to get a tramp stamp? It's like been so long that we got our tramp stamps that it's now like ironic to get a tramp stamp? The feelings that I'm feeling watching all the clothes get big again. Yeah. Where it does, I don't care about any of it anymore. Yeah. And for so long, the pants were so tight on me. I know. And now they're big with a big shirt. Right. And that's the height of fucking fashion. Don't like belting it. I have a complete two father time and he doesn't care. Okay. Okay. This one is from Renifor Coolidge on Instagram. Okay. Here's my drama. I can see the face on the moon. My girlfriend can't. Can y'all see it? Yes. Yes. Boom. That's our advice to you. Your girlfriend's wrong. Break up in that relationship, Renifor. Yeah. Your girlfriend needs glasses. Sorry. Or your girlfriend is fighting whimsy. I was just going to say. Where are you going to say that? There's like a whimsical problem here. Yes. It's like, I used to have a boyfriend that would do stuff like that where they're like, they love to argue. Yeah. That like, I had a, I had a tote bag that had like a saying on it. Yeah. There was like, if you hang around a barbershop, you're going to get a haircut. Yeah. Maybe like that doesn't mean anything. And I'd be like, it literally absolutely means absolutely. And it's a good piece of advice. And it's also kind of wise. And it's just like, it literally doesn't mean it. And it's just like, why are you being contrary? Yeah. So you're saying break up, break up with the person who refuses to see the fun little character that isn't important. But it's, but won't be there with you and go there with you. Yeah. They got to go. And also if you can't see the face on the moon or you don't, or you're going to stand around arguing that there isn't one there. Yeah. Go over to the fucking JPL or something and become the rocket scientist that you need to be. But everybody else is just like, this is a human experience finding faces in like our cloud. Yes. Or whatever it is. Open your god damn eyes. Try it sometime. Break up with them. Okay. Last one. Someone wants us to pick lottery numbers. Yeah. Lock what if we did it? I know. Let's really focus right now. Okay. How many are that in fourth seven? Seven numbers, one through 35, one through 35. Yeah. So let's pick. Okay. You go, you pick three. I'll pick three. And then we'll pick one together. Eight. 11. I'm doing the low ones. You can do the higher ones. 23. Okay. And then I'll go 33, 42, 49. And then I think we're over 35. Right. Okay. Then what did you say? I ended on 23, I believe. Okay. So 26, 31, 35. And then no, we can't, then that's it. Do you want a power ball in there? Yeah. Yeah. 11. 11. Did we already do 11? 9. 9 for the power ball. Whatever that was, we don't know, but you're welcome. America half. It says if I win, I'll share. So that's from Chloe Ham on Instagram. So thank you. And you're welcome. Chloe, you're welcome. I hope. Please spend it wisely. No, no, please just book a one, one crazy, what the fuck, shopping spree on drugs. Just like really good drugs. Good drugs. Spend the money. Share them with us. Also, absolutely get a new bird driver. Yes. Absolutely get a driver that day. Don't. Yeah. Please. Yes. Well, thanks for listening to our advice.
