Blind boxes + Popstar Academy

The podcast blends personal storytelling, humor, and mental health awareness in a warm, candid conversation between Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Brown. They explore themes of self-worth, relationships, and emotional vulnerability, touching on relationship OCD and how compulsive behaviors stem from deep-seated needs rather than simple overthinking. A central moment is a playful blind box unboxing ritual that symbolizes childlike wonder and joy, reinforcing the value of simple, uncontaminated moments of delight. The hosts also reflect on real-life experiences—like a man’s nervousness about a date in a sauna—and discuss the emotional labor behind reality shows such as *Popstar Academy*, which they praise for showcasing resilience, sisterhood, and talent. The episode includes a powerful note on mental health, introducing exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy as an effective treatment for OCD. Throughout, the tone remains lighthearted and human, emphasizing connection, self-compassion, and the importance of sharing personal struggles. It ends with a call to self-care, featuring product recommendations and a celebration of small, meaningful joys—like a blind box or a good cup of coffee—as tools for emotional balance and empowerment.

The following podcast is a deer media production. - Hi there. - I'm Benito Skinner. - I'm Mary Beth Brown. - And this? - Is? - Rye, Rye, Rye. - They're so fucking broken. Girls like swarving off the road, listening to me with this life saver. - They can listen, it's okay. Like sometimes you have conversations and you have other stuff going on internally. - When I hear the sound of someone with a mint, I remember this was my first experience with ASMR. I think when I wrote, was I a (beep) with ASMR? Or did I write for it? - I think I, maybe I did though. - Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing. - I know there's no way of learning that. - There's no way to check. There's no record of it. - I think that all the time. So I recently thought, did I say that in a video? And then I was like, there's just simply no way for me to find that out. But the sound of a life saver in a woman's mouth, not a man's, I don't wanna hear it in a minute. - I think. - Well, it's just gross, it's thanky. I was, oh God, there's so much to say. - Where are you going to start? This is chaotic. I'm a (beep) This is chaotic. - I'm in the zone, Mama. - I gotta check my hair. - After I told you, woke up depressive today. - Well, I was gonna ask you if you think I have OCD. - Oh my God. - Oh my God, different one than you, obviously. - One sec, let me think of a song to start us off and just get grounded, touch my moon rock. We're not cutting any of this. - Of course not. - We couldn't talk to each other. - I literally heard a song this morning and I thought I have to sing that to Mary Beth, but I wonder what it was. Obviously, I listened to Crank 2. That's how I started. - Yeah. - Hearing Crank 2 drop while I'm waiting for two Joe and the juice sandwiches. - Oh my God. - Oh my God, I know what I was gonna start with. - I don't need you, this is like, this is next level Benny right now. Oh. - I brought sustenance. (laughing) - Thank you, that was worth it. - Non-sponsored, but my God, it's about time, right? - What people forget is that there was a timer Joe and the juice only hired male models. No one works there. They only hired male models to make the cracker sandwiches. And this was like in Soho. And so you could just go in there, middle of the day and just like take a little peek. - Time is certainly of the essence that Joe and the juice. - Well, they're not in it for speed. - You're driving style. - When I used to drive. - Yeah. - So obviously I brought sustenance as L Woods in Ligley Blonde when she brings like a sourdough bread. - She brings a pastry bread basket to study. - Yeah. - And then they say maybe you should go join a sorority. Like you could join like, it's dead like this. - And I'd be like, wait, I might. I think it's so funny to think that a group of like law students who are working really hard at Harvard law wouldn't love a chocolate croissant. Like that just feels a little unrealistic to me. That's what takes me out of the mood. - Well, I wonder if the students at the time were upset with their portrayal or if they like being portrayed is kind of like, holier than now. - I remember the lesbian character so viscerally to me. - Yeah. Well, she wanted to call it an o-vester. - Yes. And she told me-- - And she taught me what-- - This is my maternity bra. It skims does. It's not actually maternity, but does it look like one? Or not, it does, right? Like this is insane. - You were taking a guy home and saying, "Wanna see my breasts here, baby." - Wait until you get a load of this. I just thought I had a hair tickling me, but I think it's just me imagining things. - I've had this thought recently. Like if a guy wanted me to be in lingerie, what I would do, like if I would go through with that-- - Well, the biggest kind of all is that guys do not care about lingerie. And you buy it, you wear it once, you never look at it again. And then if you break up, you have to throw it out. - It's like the biggest lie we've been told as artists. - Yeah, well that's all Blair Waldorf. Lay me stirred that. - They were in the pocket of big lingerie. - I really did think, okay, once you hit 16, my sister must have to go to a lingerie store in Paris. - A shop of Akator and she used to take the chip to Paris. - And get a corset, pasties, bustier, a garter. What's the-- What are these guys? - I keep saying stirrups. - No, I think it's a stop. - It's a stop. - A little stop. - So when they have the little glue. - Yeah, oh, I don't know what that's called. - You have them on, but you don't. - I'm wearing them right now. Oh, I wear them every day, 'cause I keep my gun in there. - I love the idea that it's for you. It's like, so you have all these wires for you. - That sounds terrible. - It's prodding, you know? Being poked and prodded. - That's a shirt I caught. - I know. - That means the world to see it again. - I really wear. I really love that shirt. - I know, I think you acne studios. - Why did I get it for you just birthday? - Yeah. - It was birthday. - It could have been anything, by the way. - But it was birthday. - What I was saying about the life saver, and it's almost done. I'm kind of making a meal of it. - You could crunch it. That wouldn't make me upset. You crunched it. - Nasty girl. Nasty girl. - Nasty girl. - I brought a sustenance. - Fuck, she saw me ASMR when it was like, people reading in first grade. There was this woman who would come to our class and read books with us outside like during the day. She would pop in a word. There's our life saver. And I, the chills down my spine. It was like the scoliosis test. - Yeah. - Which every time, you know what I did, I'd kind of-- - You did crack an egg on your head that the yolk dripped down. Do you know where you remember that? - Practical magic soup. - This episode of "Ride Is Brought To You" by practical magic soup, it's what we do. - But which is the back? Come on. - The egg dripped down my, like, if someone did that to me, I was like, I'll piss my pants. - Yeah. - Do you want me to piss? Maybe they did. - I woke up sad randomly and I feel really good seeing you. - Well, I would like to talk about today's scheduling, which you thought the podcast started at 11. You texted me at 11.09 that you were waiting for the cracker sandwiches. - Yeah. - And then I revealed to you that it starts at 11.30 and then you were still late. - So I was still late. - You know what's funny? - You find, like, impressive a little bit. I'm just like, how? - How? - I actually don't know. I said to, I was talking to, I think I said it to Jay Samus. - What? Some big celebrity? - Oh, God. - You just started (beep) - It's fucking name-dressed. - I was talking to Tom Cruise. (laughing) So I was talking to Tom about Scientology and we were talking for-- - Yeah, which part? - We're shooting the shit. - Yeah. - All the good parts. (laughing) But we were talking about Scientology and then I said, I think I was put, it was Jay Samus. I was put on this earth and there's something working through the universe where I'm actually not late to other things except if it's with you randomly. So I think the universe is like, this is good for her. This is what I'm saying right now. - I'm not, I haven't found the lesson yet, but we will, we will, as you hold the best. - I was put here to challenge me and help me grow. - Don't I look like this? This is Cowabunga. - Show them their necklace. - Cowabunga. - It's very cowabunga. - This is Eli Birch. I love Eli Birch. - We're both doing flip-flops today. - Follow Eli, dogs out. - Dogs out, let's rest this gently. Do you think I have OCD? - Oh my God, I mean, who's to know? You gotta go on no CD to find that out. - Just 'cause I vacuum three times a day. Do you think that I have OCD? - There is, I mean cleaning OCD is a thing. - Also I'm not trying to co-opt that. I would never identify as OCD now that I'm 34 years into life and it's just not part of my brand and it never will be, but I feel like I was just curious from an expert. - I feel like I'm by. - I know. (laughing) - You're laughing. - You want to get into that? - I don't want to get into that today. - God no. - No. - I couldn't be less. If I had to guess, I would need to doctor it. But to me, I think cleaning and those things feel, like it's interesting, I wonder, and I'm sure someone can tell us this, but the difference between type A and OCD, because I think also my mom is very clean and it's really intense about that, but I don't think it, she's not thinking I have to clean this. - Or someone will die. - The stakes aren't that high. I'm just like, I think I would like it better. - Do you like, if we kind of fucked up some of this room, would it make you like, like viscerally sick? - No, but sometimes I'll like pause. - Like if this was cock-eyed or something? - Well, no, I wouldn't get sick, but sometimes I would like pause a movie or a show to like go throughout a paper towel. You know what I mean? - I think an interesting example of this is Chloe Kardashian. I remember that being in the Kardashians that she has a cleaning thing to where everything has to be super clean. I don't know, that's not my manifestation of OCD, so I couldn't tell you, and I probably shouldn't, but to me, I'm like, I think no matter what, thinking of those things as like, am I doing it because like why? I think it's been my, through therapy, that's what I've been working on. - It's your why. - Why does that make me feel this way or why is my whole body sick if I don't do this? Because I'm the opposite, I cleaning, it doesn't, I feel nothing. - Oh, we know. - Just do it. - We call him Benino. - Benino, what? - Would you just do it? - Skinner. - Would you just fucking do it already? - Put him down, put the dog's down. I wanted to say something about the Geneva Convention 'cause we're not there. You may have noticed we're actually not in our home studio right now. - No, we're in a paper towel. - We're in a paper towel. - But you know what I love about it? 'Cause I saw that on the schedule when I thought this started at 11, still came in at 11, 35, come on! - But I, but I was like, oh my god, I forgot. We used to show our kids podcast studios. - I used to show you. - Look at that one, it's in Montreal. (laughing) Oh my god. - Whoa, I know. - We did one in Texas. - I know. - We did just like the PDF, right in Texas. But this was when we were long distance specialists, friends. I wanted to say at the Geneva Convention. So I think what's happening with the sound is that we keep putting our elbows and hands on the table because we speak with our hands. And so there, then they have to adjust the volume to make that go away. So I actually wonder if we're going to have any volume issues today. And on that note, what I would love to pitch is to get, like, an impact mat at the Geneva Convention where it's a little squishy. So if we put our extremities on the table, it's not going to cause any problems. I love the thought that it's like a full, like, it's played, it's slime. It's, well, to phone. Yeah. It's noise. I have to wear arm pads to do the pod. I would for the kids. I want to tell a story. I got permission to tell. Is that okay? It's not about you. Oh, I guess. But if it was, I would also tell it. Yeah, that's true. I just didn't want to scare you. Yeah, I'm not scared. So I'm, I have a, a neighbor of mine who I am friends with. I mean, we were friends first, then we found out we were neighbors. But so she, I saw her. Also, how cool is that? It's really. I just don't want her to think I don't want her to think I'm describing her as a neighbor, you know, because that's like whatever that has implications. I've had that to where it's like sometimes if someone is technically like a coworker or something, it is so uncomfortable to say what they are to you. Yeah. I'm going to start just saying lover, like, that's a lover of mine. That's my sexual partner. Yeah. So I'm front. She's a friend. And we, we see each other maybe once every six months. So we went for a walk. And she was like, I can't wait. This guy I've been talking to were really serious. He lives in another state. And he's going to move here for me and he's coming to stay with me for a few weeks and we're going to look at places. So the next time I saw her was a few months later, I was so excited for her to. And then I was like, what's going on with the guy? She's like, Oh, well, we broke up. And I was like, what happened? And she was like, well, the trip kind of didn't go well. And he said she was controlling. And his example was she asked him to take a sunglasses off inside because she thought it came off his route. So he said she was controlling. So I just wanted to share that with everyone. Yeah. I might just do a like, MB's corner where I bring a story about something a straight man has done. And we just need to sit with that. Well, I think it's, it's going to be great. It's going to be exposure and response therapy for our listeners. But also, I think maybe it could, who was there, is there a cruise ship for the cruise ship? Yeah, we're on the, we're at the port. Yeah. What's it called? It's just Disney cruise. Disney liner, the Disney cruise. So crazy. Is it all aboard? It's a tiny week. Oh, God, totally. You would have survived Titanic. I wouldn't have, I thought that the other day, I had that true thought walking experience the Titanic. I wish I hadn't gone to that in L.A. before I moved. I did do the Titanic walking museum thing that they had a few years go in New York, but they didn't drown you or anything. I don't know how intense the experience got, but they did not. Yeah. That, that kind of, I want a cold plunge at the museum. Yeah. A polar bear plunge at the end. But I think hearing these stories, it might help some people maybe wake up from those and be like, oh, wait, I was treated horribly. These men are insane. I might help rise. Well, that I'm in the right is huge as a modality of thinking. Well, of course. But I also think for men to hear this. And if you see any of yourself in that, like, let's, look, let's just continue to dig. Why are we so angry? I don't know. One little thing you can throw in your bag, touch up. It's also easy if you have like a little spot. It's a little pinpoint, delicious. I love you so much. Because when the calendar fills up again, five minutes is all you need to put yourself first. So you start with the great skin serum for a visible healthy looking glow. Instantly, this is delicious under makeup. Then the minimalist. Oh, my God. Okay. The minimalist. This stick, I use it. I use it under my eyes on a few little areas, a few little problem areas to get my full lights, no makeup, delicious little boybeats. It works double duty as both a foundation and concealer. So you can get a quick buildable coverage. These two together are literally going to be your best skin in just two steps. And you add a little flush bomb for natural flush from within cheek color. That stays all day. I love these flush bombs. I put them a little chip. I put them on the top, the top, top, top, top part of my cheekbone across my nose. And then I also put a little bit on my forehead because the sun would hit you too there. Okay, ladies, I love you so much. Do you know that? Do you understand that? And so I put on the newly launched clean volume mascara. So I haven't used this, but my sister did and she said that is literally fantastic. And she's very picky about mascara. So take a word for it. And we all can't wait to launch our own websites or demands. No CD, let's fucking go. So okay, relationships are intense. They make us care deeply, feel vulnerable, maybe even freak out a little sometimes. That's human. But some people have relationship concerns that go far beyond standard ones, like finding another person attractive, then immediately thinking, "Oh my god, does this mean I don't really love my partner?" Or needing constant reassurance that your relationship is right or that you're not making the wrong choice because you never feel sure enough. Or asking yourself the same question hundreds of times a day. "Do I really love them? What if I'm wasting their time?" And searching for some feeling of certainty that never comes. Many people think these sorts of thoughts and anxieties are just overthinking or commitment issues. But they can actually be signs of relationship OCD. So many people think OCD is just about cleaning or organizing or making your books the kind of like rainbow pattern. But that stereotype couldn't be more wrong. Real OCD is a serious condition, I have it, hey, where distressing unwanted thoughts, called the truce of thoughts, get stuck on repeat and you feel compelled to do certain things. Mental or physical behaviors called compulsions to try to make the anxiety stop. With relationship OCD, compulsions might look like constantly seeking reassurance, replaying memories to see if you feel a spark or comparing your partner to others. But what's given me so much hope is learning that OCD is one of the most treatable mental health conditions when you get the right kind of specialized therapy. OCD needs ERP therapy, exposure and response prevention, which is proven to be the most effective treatment and it did help me so much. NoCD is the world's leading OCD treatment provider and all of their licensed therapists specialize in ERP. Therapy with NoCD is 100% virtual covered by insurance for over 138 million Americans and includes support between sessions so you never have to face OCD alone. Well, you never are anyway because you're here with me and my arms around you. If you can send to that, I love you stinky. To learn more about starting OCD therapy with NoCD, go to noCD.com and book a free call with 13. That's noCD.com. Love you. I'm staying in a hotel right now because I wish you wanted to get hate-crime. You want someone to call you the F-sign elevator again. Can we, but I actually can't believe that happens to me from a woman, bullets. It'd be your own people. It'd really be your own curly pops. Yeah. So I was in, there was a sauna in the basement and so I was like, okay, you know what, I'm going to, I don't do sauna's that much. I have to try it. And I always think of court. When we had court onto the compositing episode and he goes fuck Todd in here. Fuck Todd in here. Holy straight guy. And the gay guy was like, you've been driving us wild since you got in here. I think about that. I try not to think about that, but I'm glad I'm thinking about it now. A great. Yeah. And so I'm in the sauna and this guy an alarm goes off and we kind of start laughing because it's kind of like what could be a worse sound to hear while we're in the sauna. And then he turns and he's like, man, I'm straight, but you got a great body. And I just think somebody, he's like, I want to tell you that. And I was like, that, thank you. And he's like, sorry, I'm just like, I'm nervous. I got a date tonight with this girl and I FaceTime drew a few times and I really like her and I hope it goes well. And I was like, oh my God. And I said, start from the top. I spent 20 minutes and that's when I was talking to Chad. Real estate developer. - Chad, yes. - What? - That's beautiful. - He's from Austin. Now he FaceTime's girls before the blind dates 'cause he's like, I don't want to waste their time or my time. I want to see if we kind of could talk for more than five minutes. - Whoa. - And I'm like, whoa. - He's playing with form. - He is. - But he was just a total darling. - Oh my God. - And I was like, tell me about this. - There may be a few good guys out there. - I think there are and they should all work. - Chad killed six of them last night. - Well, their bodies are bare. - Oh, I'm like, why? - They should, oh, he should write a book maybe. - Yeah, I don't know something about-- - Let's do some shooting the shit with the gay guy in the sauna and-- - He felt safe with you. - Chad fucked me. - Well, you said, I knew, I knew that. - No, it was like, I don't know. And when he left, he said, can't wait to watch over compensating and I said, I hope that date goes amazing. - Yeah. - Well, actually, on that note, a straight man stopped me in my coffee shop recently and said, he and his wife love over compensating. - Oh, that's awesome. - And I thought that was cool to watch stuff with this wife and also bring her up to me. That's awesome. - Oh, that's to say it early, 'cause he was probably like, this girl wants to smash. - Yeah, that was the intention. - I've seen her stand up. She'll like me. - Yeah, yeah. - But I'm laughing because at one point, I kind of made a joke about it. I was like, yeah, in the show, I play a college student. And he goes, no, no, don't do that. You look great, man. I was like. - He healed you. - Seriously, actually, I don't think he's real. - You know, who know I was gonna say, you know, and it's a wonderful life, Clarence or whatever. - Do you know that's kind of like a gay allegory? - Oh, I didn't know that. - Yeah, dive back in, Merry Christmas. - Okay. (laughing) - I think initially it was the, is it the Hayes Code? What's the, the Celluloid Closet is an amazing doc about how there was all these like gay, like, winks essentially that were put into movies in like the 20s and 30s. And then there was like this code that launched, I think it was after World War II, where they were like, knock it off. - Oh yeah. - These designers are acting a little fruity in these movies. - I think that's what, isn't there something about that in the Aviator, 'cause they had rules about cleavage and stuff? - I realized recently I haven't seen the Aviator. - We should watch it. - I think so too. - And of like, and of course Leonardo has Howard Hughes. - Of course. - The way the feature. - Cool. - So wait, the feature, I'm speaking of OCD. - And he didn't win for that. I remember that being like a big thing. - He got robbed a lot and then he won for the Revenant or something. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Should we get into what you're right for? - I would love to. So I was only five minutes late because I was writing for blind boxes and I brought Mimi So, a great place and so how to get them, not sponsored again, but a- - Free promo. - Capitalist at heart. - Free promo. - Cowell Bunga. - So I'm writing this week for Popstar Academy, the Netflix program. - Oh my God, I can't wait. - Which I can't wait to talk about with you. - Yeah, they're dropping like flies on Katzai though. - Well, let me get, we're gonna get into that. - Okay. - We're gonna talk about all that. - Yeah, I say with love and adoration for Katzai, of course, so I hope everyone's well, but I just, they're gonna end with one and it might just be you. - Yeah, I'm ready to step in whenever. - I wanna do Love Island next season where they just randomly have a 36 year old 'cause I'll be 36 next year and I'm just like, I have no plastic surgery and I'm on the British one too. I just wanna see how quickly I get voted off. - Or actually? - Or straight to the top. - You could be the queen of steampunk if you'd only allowed. - If I had only fucking let it happen. Last night at my show, Front Row, we had a Pilates instructor, a stay-at-home dad, a physician that works for a nonprofit and a social worker. I mean, I was just like, this is so cool. - Come on. - I think it's just cool. - Come on, that's amazing. It's guess who? - It's so fun. - Do you wanna open your pressees first or do you wanna talk about Popstar Academy? - I think I wanna just randomly talk about Popstar Academy. - And you've done this before? - I know, it's cool. So when we were filming overcompensating in Toronto, we had, you know, you're on set and so I had some downtime. - Yeah. - So I watched two years late. I watched a show called Popstar Academy. - I love that. It's like watching an older season of Americanite all almost. - Well, it's like me just watching the Brutalists, it's very that. - There was a building there. - And it was Buddhist. - It was Buddhist. And it was beautiful. - So-- - They fucking ruined it. - Well, it was my favorite. - Yeah. - So I start this program. I don't know exactly what I'm getting into. I knew the conceit was that these executives wanted to put together a K-pop group, but in the style of a K-pop group. - Yeah. - And when you saw the name, did you think I hosted it? - Yeah, well, I was expecting, but then I remembered that was the dance competition show on Quibi with Liza Koshi. - Yes, I wonder who has the tapes of me being a guest judge on the dance competition. So I've lived nine lives. - I was on the punk tree booth, by the way. - I was on the punk tree booth. People forget that. - We were Quibi, darling. - Quibi doubt. - I'm a Quibi doubt. - I'm Quibi doubt. - Yeah. - So I turned this program on, and it's sort of like, it's sort of like everything I would want in a television show. And you know, I'm not a reality TV girl, but this is really like, it's very women's stories matter. - Yeah. - So they are identifying these girls with star quality, right? And they invite, I don't know what the numbers are. I'm gonna say like 100 to enter pop star academy. And it's a rigorous, sort of like military style training for being in a pop group. They're doing rehearsals like eight hours a day. They're singing, they're making different combinations of the girls, and then they're slowly narrowing things down. And the girls, the ones that were like, in contention, I'll have to move to LA from wherever they're from, from all over the world. And they would add girls at different times. Some of the girls were already in the training for like three months, then they would bring new girls in. And some of them would just get eliminated. And it was, it's just like, I felt like there was this sisterhood among the girls, 'cause even though they were in competition with each other, they really cared about each other. And like, it was just really sweet. Like, they're, and they were all in their teens too. I mean, it's like, it, well, I know some of them maybe were in their 20s. What a dream to be like, I was like, God, I can't sing or dance, but I would have loved it just. - But fuck it. - I would love to be considered. - You guys can't even hit me up. Like, at least give me a shot. - Just like, I could try. - God of course. - No, but the physical toll of this training, and this is the traditional K-pop training. And it was, it was just incredible to see and I loved watching them navigate these things. And they were all so mature and just like such beautiful people. And at one point, they did an elimination that this girl just, she was just like, I thought that I didn't like that. And she just left. She had been, she was very close to the final round of eliminations. And she was just like, I didn't like how that went down. So I'm going home. - So you, when your skin was dry, it's cool. - It was so me with dry skin at school. - Yeah, just being like, hey, I just like, actually, this one, I gotta check out. - So I need, it's not going good. - I don't, I don't like it. - I'm actually good. - I don't like how it feels. - It's very, um, that girl in America's next time model where she's like, this isn't for me. - This isn't for me and so I'm going to go home. Exactly. - Yeah. - And it was watching these girls dance with such precision. It's obviously mesmerizing. That's why all those dancing videos go viral on TikTok. - The gap ad is like, I think it has to be like, maybe Britney dancing in the Pepsi commercial, where they're kind of in the warehouse with the trucks, is maybe, I mean, it comes close to that. I would say nothing could beat the video Britney, but it's like-- - It gives me full chills. - It's the most incredible thing I've ever seen. The little milkshake. - Yeah. - Oh, the amount of gaze that are doing that at afters. - Yeah. - Like, that's beautiful. - That's culture. - And it was brutalist. They're keeping culture alive. And I think what's interesting too is like, they weren't really shying away from the fact that like the girls were putting themselves through so much physically that they were getting injured. And so I know that cats, I just had to drop out of Daisy Chainfields 'cause one of their members was injured. - I feel like they've been going nonstop for a very long time. - Yeah. - But what was interesting was the final elimination, I believe it was like weighted scores, like the public voted 'cause while this was happening, they were doing a YouTube series where fans could vote in real time. And it was like, they tallied social media stuff, like some followers and whatever and views and everything. But then at the end, it was like, it was sort of a weighted average. And I know there was some people that did not make it that like maybe were favorites of mine who I thought should have. And then there was a sort of controversial pick for the group. And then Adela who was not picked for the final group is now a solo artist. - Major Prima is fabulous. - And you know. - You sent me a few of her songs this week. - I really did 'cause the baddest, which is AINN and LA. - No, they're in Stanford, I think they get it. - They're in Stanford. They're holding it down. They're at three little birds copy in Stanford. - I'm like Princess Diana. - So I just love the show. I think it's like, it's also just wholesome. It's like, they're not doing anything nefarious. - That show in 2003, like, is so diabolical. - I mean, many of them-- - It's making the band. - So I'm really grateful to happen when it happened. And that's not to say they were not put through the ringer mentally, physically and emotionally. - And we have to shout out Charlie Christie. - And Charlie Christie, who's a featured player. - A friend of ours. - In pop star Academy. - She's fabulous. - I mean, I have no idea. - It's crazy. - I literally just ran into him in New York. When I saw him and I go, Mary Beth is a (beep) pop star Academy. - Yeah. - And he was like, did, really? - The show from three years ago. - Yeah, he was like, wait, that was a long, yeah. I mean, I was like, no, she's just locking in. - I find things when I find them. And I'm looking forward to a second season. - A little light. - Who knows when I'll read it? - A little light. I want to go on the record of saying, I don't think you should read it. I didn't read it, but I know they did a play version of it that had, like, ambulances waiting outside because it was so graphic that people were passing out. - Oh my god. - And I think the main actor showed whole. So, it's coming. It's coming to Broadway, babe. You wanna throw your hat in the ring? - Looks like all I want is a chance. My own pop star Academy. - Yeah, they do a training camp for a little life on Broadway. You're ready. I think you're ready. - I think so too. I've got this mustache. Hey you guys, guys being just. Yeah, like you look ready to pop damn girl It's fully cooked. Is it twin and they're like I'm three months. They're like cool Yeah, I just found out the moment in two weeks notice. I don't know if we've talked about this line read I used to say this all the time as a kid The woman where Hugh Grant thinks she's pregnant early in the film and then at the end she is pregnant He at first was like congrats on your pregnancy and she's like I'm not pregnant and at the end when he says She goes are you gonna congratulate me because she ends up being pregnant and he's like I'm not falling for this again I'm not falling for this and she goes you want to see the day? I'm sonogram He used to say it all the time. It's a kid. It's all coming back to me. Yeah, she this actress. I don't know who does she's fantastic in it But you want to say that I'm sorry. I wonder if Hugh Grant has seen pop star Academy No comment on that Yeah, I'm sure he's loving it. Yeah, which we're not sure but I think pop star Academy It's about grit. It's about determination. It's about skill It's about loving your craft and it's about sisterhood and so I really found it to be just like a a joy to watch This is Benny drama star Academy. Yes, I'm with her right now Yes, of course they want to talk to you Hello Oh, no Perfect. Yeah, I didn't want to do it. Okay. Yeah, sometimes you have to leave them wanting more That was a test. Yeah, we didn't think it was good for you. Exactly. So I want to do my own star Academy I think that's how I'll end my life here on earth my last big that's my fourth quarter project That's your spawn so I can't wait. I can't wait too. Yeah. I hope I'll be a judge that I want to be at the desk of course Yes, you're a judge Olivia Dean's a judge and Then there's a guest judge and law Roach does the guest judging a lot I Actually, like I need to just ride for law Roach actually let's write that down. Yeah, because I would love to discuss it as well The ride I recently oh, and Laura. I had one encounter with law Roach at the lost culture east does a war so I wasn't invited too Multiple years in a row totally and I wanted you to talk about that I don't think it's weird to bring it up that you weren't invited. I was invited when it was in New York Before it was on TV and that I actually presented an award but anyway gone Yeah, so a law Roach was backstage and I saw him and I had to tell him just how much I'm gonna with him and he he was buying these. I don't know exactly what they're called But they're like a a salmon that's almost been turned into a jerky of sorts a salmon jerky But they're like really expensive and like fabulous and he'll eat them on TikTok. I've watched 40 I would watch it for 40 hours. Yeah, it's the best thing I've ever seen well that brings up him So law Roach was a guest on Zway recently, and I really enjoyed that episode Totally different feeling totally different feeling I I saw her recently and brought that up and I I was laughing with her because I'm like that's just That that is what that show can do create a moment like he goes since birth Totally different feel totally different feeling. He has this line that he said I love how the pettiness is just like of course as a Scorpio. I'm like well that gives me chills I think it was like a Vogue what's in his bag and he he brought out a globe and he goes because I'm from the world And she's sweet. Delamons just sweet Delamons, but he had said this girl where he goes We're from the same place babe and the girl goes Queens because the world Like just sweet Delamons that thanks for bringing that up. We'll get into what you write for right after I share this with you So I've been watching a lot of talkbacks with Brady Corbee who direct the brutalist He won for it, right? I think so he better. He won a lot of stuff for yeah, but I have this thing that I've been saying for a while Which is like with new movies and TV shows a lot of times it doesn't matter if it's good It just matters that it exists when you I actually have repeated this at three dinners recently I'm and thank you for spreading that and I was listening to this talkback that he did and he said like it doesn't matter If a movie does well it matters if it exists and I was like, whoa, are you like in my brain? It was kind of crazy to hear someone else say it and be like, okay Well, if the director of the brutalist thing so yeah, and I think so then it must be true You guys have always been kind of tipped for tat very cat and mouse, but our our content totally different feeling totally different God, you still make me laugh. I was repeating some of your jokes to a group of gays last night and I actually did a really good job Which one some of your newer stuff. Okay, cool. I did it all last night. I mean it's it's I think it's fabulous And I have 15 minutes. Yeah, so it'll be an hour at some point. It's gonna It's really tough to I'd use the concepts right now. We'd deflate make them wider. You know what I'm used to flatten them But it's okay. We're gonna get there. Well, yeah, I there was a cut for an episode of overcompensating that was like 48 minutes And I'm like ultimately it's a 30 minute comedy, so we're just trying to figure that out as well It's just it's hard when you write so much good stuff. Yeah, sometimes it can be too big sometimes it can be too small But it's funny right in the middle and that's where we find it. Should we open some blocks blocks? So I said boxes Let's open some blocks. Okay, so I am writing for blind boxes And these I just want to say if these existed when I was a kid it would have put my mom into psychosis And we actually would have to sell the house you I was gonna literally say second mortgage We would have to sell the house because my OCD I would have been like I have kind of collector OCD, so I would have been like if If I got to get all of them. Yeah, like I There will be a tornado that storms through Boisey or my mom will fall in quicksand So I need us to get these or I'm just not gonna sleep well So I have been watching these on TikTok and I've kind of learned how to open them. Oh in the right way. Yes, of course And it's just it's such a quick dopamine rush that I'm sure could become an addiction for many including me It's just these little moments of joy. Yeah, I think it's so cute. It's so cutesy too like the ones I got I think all could be keychains and I love I love keychains You got me a bedazzle Chihuahua keychain race Yes, and then we did a zootopia like box opening you know what I thought of on the way is any Any gift can be a blind unboxing when it's a gift off season. Well, we've all seen seven We've all seen seven. What's in the box? So today It's gonna be a what's in the box thing Kevin space and I just say Kevin spacey I think it was a year ago today that he smiled at me at the he trailer point. I said Wait, that might be true. I think it was literally a year ago today. Yeah, okay, let's get so So I went into mini so there's a bunch that you can buy on TikTok and stuff But I really loved going in there because you can kind of see you see how big they are you see the like I don't know I just I don't know who to trust So I went in there it was fucking packed and there were so many But I decided that these two felt like themes that were of the pod and of us Okay, Blake Silva, who's my my Poo bear connoisseur. I love so much one of my everyone needs one one of my Disney girls Yeah, no sweetie. Of course. I've got a dealer. You know recently someone was like God Where would you get a custom cake in in London? And I thought well, I obviously have someone what do you mean a custom cake? Yeah, I'm like easy like it's hard. I go sweetie. Tell me what city. Yeah, that's not hard. There's a birthday going on like tell me what city I'm happy to get you to figure it out. Yeah, I'm like so but my new thing is buying people custom cakes I'm a This is news to me if a gay guy a TV show and watch the world burn you know where there was a dolphin in Venice That's that so Blake does it, but I love so how we're going to do it is I'm going to hand it to you and we're both going to tell say the one we want okay, but you know It's fine if we don't get it of course. Then we're going to say a backup. We are going to say the one we don't really want Okay, exactly so that's exactly and then you open it and it's just like it's just pure childhood joy I think I'm always bringing child like wonder into this pod because I just think it's fucking fun and we don't get enough of it You said you wanted to do more prepping for episodes and I feel like this is Like we knew what we were writing for before we got here, which is prep different Okay, so you get to choose the first thing. It's either Powerpuff girls or Zootopia. Oh Powerpuff girls first has to be That one is so calling you. It's calling me. I like I believe in witchcraft really practical magic So yes, all right, so it's it can be it's it can be one of these six. So it's gonna be one of these six Okay, so for me I any of the ones with the ears. I would be cool with I agree So because they look a bit pinky. Yeah, it's it's the very bunny There's none that I don't want is that crazy like I see the good in each of them No, it's funny. I think I have gotten these before are one similar because me and Cecilia who I love so much In Toronto lesbian let so lesbian I thought you were going to say that Worked on overcompensating and we got them one day and I got the crying blossom or something that looks like that I am a bubble's girl though. Okay, because we're both atomic blondes with attitudes right your atomic blondes with attitudes But like a really sweet disposition. So to me. I'm probably I Think I'm bunny bubbles, which is like she has little ears. I guess it. Yeah, I guess if I want if I was like Which one do I want for sure? It would be bunny buttercup and then if I had to choose one that I didn't want I guess crying blossom because she looks the most sad of course your buttercup. Yeah, I didn't even think about that Okay, so if we get the one we like we can also trade. Okay, cool. Yeah This would have been crazy as a kid if someone would have gotten something I would have had to like when you got a Carbular because you didn't know it was in there. Yeah, I didn't do those as much. I mean, I didn't either but we all are faces all right Ready. Okay, so close your eyes now and then we go like this and you feel it Okay, and then try to find I found it the the cut away thing Maybe I'm doing this wrong Okay, okay, I'm feeling it. I'm feeling it mine has ears. All right, three two one Mine doesn't have ears wait, but I got the one you wanted open Okay, cool. Yeah, and then we put these where we could put them on a bag we can put them on a belt we could put them on a belt We could like put them on a necklace of course right here cute. Pinkie's gonna love this wait This is really cute. It's like I have you with me all the time. It's like you have your little it's a pocket I'm glad you got the one you wanted it bestie. Well, hey You sent me back 50 bucks. I can I saw that MSRP was 2999 I go silent for the rest of the recording I don't say it well that's something my ex that's something my ex would do if my ex didn't get the blind box He wanted lately piss um this makes me so happy. It's so you and thanks for trading isn't that so well of course We do that's when you wanted how fun is oh my god. I love look at it. It's so small. They cutie cutie It's a little pinky. Oh, whoa. They're really beautifully made like the craftsmanship's here and for only 20 bucks This is Giving it your house. Well, look at this. Look at this. Just think about the havoc these have reaked on families with multiple kids and or groups of three best friends Arific like the trades and the not trades so scary. All right. What's next? It's Utopia. So there's Utopia But they're little crying baby How you is that? Oh cool? That one's calling to you little crying baby, but it's Utopia little crying baby Oh my god. Okay. Here's what I would love. I would love Finic because it has a little a little pacifier I knew you were going to do Finic the one. I would it want. I guess would be poverty link that we didn't want I actually wanted all of these in my heart. I didn't want crying blossom because I didn't thought it was too sad totally Oh, I don't know what happened to her. I don't want poverty link link sleep. Okay, so to me. Yeah, poverty links these like not really calling to me I would love nibbles He's a little beaver. Yeah, nibbles is cutie. She I think that was a sheet. I actually know who I want I want either Nick while they're Judy hops because that was our Halloween. Here's my problem I'm like I just want to open it because I want to know like that's a problem You'd be a glutton in there. You're in the store opening all of them. Well, I want to know before I buy I'm not buying some bullshit. I don't know what it is. Okay, ready close your eyes Get in there Okay, this time We have to open at the same time and open our eyes. Okay. Do you have it in your hand? No, I don't yet Okay Wait, wait, wait, I'm going to be like collectible to I thought these were keychains. Wow, she really led me to tray in there. All right. So three two one Oh my god It's not the same one. Who is that's an alignment? Lemming Lemming cute. Lemming would have been a second for me. I agree. Wait. This is so cute. Oh my god. It's so heavy Yeah, I mean, it's well-made as I said well constructed. Okay, I just don't really told me this was a key chain That's okay. Well, we couldn't what would we have done with two keychains? I'm gonna show you where I'm gonna put this in my place I have a really exciting thing happening in my bathroom. I can't wait. Look at this. Wait. That is so cutie I love how beauty look. Let's put him right there. It's so sweet. They can be they can be featured players I love that we have matching. I know. Thanks for my presence. So that's this was blind. I obviously I think this episode would be that portion would be more fun to watch I couldn't I can only listen, but there's video and spot find out so exactly. Oh that's why the intro isn't as long I believe oh with some people are like what happened to the song? Yeah, and they would send me pictures of guns and are like Which one should I use? I'm Benny drama. Well, they sent you photo outside your parents house to be people do know that that happened to me when I did that white house video I don't think enough people know, but I tell them a lot. I got that guns for like weeks. Yeah, and they found like my family's numbers and They docked you. They doxed you. Yeah, so that's why I'm scared all the time.
