Best of Music 2025 (w/ Howard Kremer)

The transcription begins with a promotional segment for the premium subscription service at improvforhumans.com, highlighting benefits like ad-free full episodes, bonus podcasts, exclusive video content, semi-scripted series, a gift scene feature, group rates, Discord access, and new merchandise. It emphasizes that subscriptions support the show and allow improvisers to be paid. The main content is a lively conversation between hosts Brett, Howard, and Matt reviewing the best music of 2025. They discuss and play snippets of songs in various categories, including the best intro song, the best song to get a party started, and the best track for merging onto a highway. The dialogue includes humorous exchanges, personal stories, and musical analysis. A notable moment involves a song that seems to use AI to craft specific lyrics referencing host Matt's past experiences, which surprises and amuses the group. The segment blends music critique with improvisational comedy, ending with a transition to another category about songs that convincingly sell a lifestyle or product.

Early in the year, I heard this record. Who let the dogs out, huh? Company culture's name is a song. Howard Kramer, Brett Morris. Welcome to 2025 Best of Music. Welcome guys. Woo. Great to be here. Another year. This is about what's the best intro song. And I said the guitar is classic, you know, best or maybe, but this is Danny Brown. You guys know him? Yeah. I dig his voice. It's kind of in between beasties and Eminem. And I like this underscores is the collaboration here. Welcome Best of Music 2025. So that, you know, you say, I want to go more old school kind of hip-hop sound. Did you hear to Teo in the Bronx? This sounds like real old school. Yeah! 2025 Best of Music. Jack was way. That's like an African bombata kind of life. Nobody, he comes from a different drawer. Plant industrial. I love it. But you know, you say get weird, man. This is 2025. This is six. Oh, but it's old school samples. Whoa, HBO. Is that a computer startup? Hey, Best of Music 2025. This is Maddie B. We got Dragon Boy, Sway, we got Ives, C. Brent Morris in the House to give our opinions on the best music of 2025. Oh, I'm dancing. I'm dancing, but I'm moving on. Oh, what's that? Is that a little missy Elliott sample? Is that what I hear? This is. See, that hooks me in. This is. Someone dropped something. Oh, there's another old school sample. Sayuri and Sofla, Wintheys, Productions, Deep Cuts. Deep Cuts. Best of Music 2025. But you know what? If we're going to be real, if we're going to be real, if I'm really going to say the phrase, "Best of Music 2025" and not be completely out of touch with reality, you'd have to say golden by K-pop demon hunters. Oh, it's going to be this song of the summer of the year on any metric. I think I'm going to go along with you on that, Matt. Yeah, and it's the highest impact tune I think. Oh, took out question. But it's not Maddie B. I'm not the world. Oh, yeah. It songs like this by Snooper worldwide. Best of Music 2025. Welcome to Hagenboy Swain. Brett Morris. I think it's this one. So, that's how we begin it. That's how we always begin it. Best intro song of the year. I'm going to give it to Snooper with worldwide. Wow. And go stop. There goes my snooper pick. Oh, really? I actually don't want to. Yeah. Is it that song or a different one? It's a great album. I think it was a different one. Gard dog. Did you know on our discord, one of our listeners said that their son is the new drummer going on tour with Snooper? Really? And it was too specific to sound like a made-up fact. Yeah, that is specific. Go ahead, Howard. Did you call bullshit? Or what did you say? I think I said, bring him on the show. Oh, yeah. That was a fan. But Howard, do you have a new title song on the year? Wait, say that again. Do you have an intro song of the year? Oh, intro. That's what those were producing the MC, your show is starting song. Oh, I see. Well, on Who Chartered, we do the same song every week. So I haven't been thinking about that. Could I take a moment? Yeah, Brett, what about you? I think I have one. This was a really strong album in general. But the way this song starts come to think of it makes for an excellent intro song. This is Gorilla Toss with Crystal Ball. I took one of Howard's. I think I was first with them. You are, you are, you are. Welcome to Best of Music 2025 Improper Humans. Do. Oh, yeah. Howard Cramer. And your host, me, Brett Morris. Nice. It's the best on that one. So it's great. The soul album is great. That's a banger right there. That's a big big banger. Okay, there we go. There we go. All right. In a pinch in a pinch give me our peppa pot by major laser. Okay. In a pinch. Here we go. Those of you who survived 2025. The Dodgers repeated. Six, seven was all the rage. And now Howard Cramer, Brett Morris and Matt Besson from the Updancing Clare Comedy Society. We'll bring you the greatest picks of 2025. All right. I love it, man. I love the Dodgers game. Humans, those were some good intro songs for you to use even into 2026. Whatever you're introducing, maybe you're introducing an idea at the office. You need to pump everybody up. Who knows? But this I'm going to slip into a new category here, which is slightly different. It's it's adjacent, but it's slightly different. It's it's the get the party started. It's the get the party started songs. And I think I think I was late to this song. This song rocks. I could possibly call it this song of the year. Oh, I'm starting to dance. This is a 2025 or is it? Who is it? It's 24. Yes, 25. I thought it was like 2006. Do you know this song? No, it sounds like a Beyonce type of a. I don't know this. Oh, guys, is this the as is the biggest is this the credits role of some animated movie? Oh, no, buddy. This is going to be an every wedding reception for here on out. Uh-huh, uh-huh. Okay, let's hear it. I guess the hook where the hell is my husband? But I can't believe you guys don't know this song, man. Who is right for you? It's Ray R-A-Y-E. Okay. Now she was the one that's kind of Amy Winehouse-ish. No? Maybe that's the different one. Sounds similar. Ray, I'm going to Google it. But this I want you to hear the end of the I always look for parts of songs that I have. I should be like I could do like oh, I could do that part of that song. Maybe they'll and maybe they'll hire me to go on tour with them. Like this is a they have a great sample of this. Here we go. Listen. Your husband is coming. Right there. I can. Your husband is calling. He's like, what's her grandma for real in real life? Really? Grandma can't go on tour. So like, ladies and gentlemen, that's a, your husband is coming. And then what then you go backstage and wait for the next thing. Yeah. Like I can dance. But guys, how do you get your party started? What as I say, it could be called the wedding reception song of the year. Because to me, those are the songs that last. The people go, oh, yeah, I love this song and it makes me want to dance a little bit. Oh, um, um, huh? I mean, I got like, I don't know if it exactly fits. I think ASAP Furg has a song, P-O-L-O. That's a banger. I don't know if it's going to be a reception banger. Hmm. But it gets you dancing. It's a, it's a, it's a high energy. Let's get a taste. Hey. The show starts getting filthy on the ass jack. Oh, it's just three drinks. The single ladies in the end of the night. It does have a good energy. Ooh. It's getting my ears. Furgar. You could do that live on the tour. Yeah, you could. Alright, Matt, that's it. It's 50 bucks. Alright, that's a good one. What about you, Brett? Uh, I think mine is even more deranged than that as far as a party song. Oh, shit. Mine is a solo one where everyone goes, what the fuck? Yeah, I'm going. Let's go smoke. Tyler, swear to your fucking problem. Mine is the, is a full on satanic orgy after the wedding. It's just, uh, it's, it's easy. This is by the band Ball. The album satanic ecstasy. And, uh, it has a horny vibe to it. All the lyrics are very, you had sex in this song? In my mind, I have. This is a dare you go, baby. You'd never get me hard while this song's playing. It blinded you, baby. It's got to, we're at a wedding reception, Brett didn't get up to dance the whole time. You're like, oh, press just not one of those guys to dance to the wedding reception. All of a sudden, for some reason, this fucking crazy ass song comes on. And he gets up and just starts dancing. Showing all of it. We're all like nervous. You could dance to this. Doing spins in the middle of the dance floor. I can dance either way. I'm a great dancer. I'm ready to stare. Okay. It is a, it is a killer album. It is a, it is a party album. I'm telling you, it sounds like a party, but it's the kind of party you do want to be at. Not at the, not this destination wedding. You posted a phone. We'll be discussed at this point. No, man, Bong rips are being taken. Uh, you know, people get fucked up. People are throwing bottles. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm telling you listen, I'm losing interpretation of the category. It is a party album. I'm telling you. Okay. up people are throwing bottles out the window. You want to, Brett, you still like going to parties like that? I mean, I would like to really. I did in my youth, but I'm like, give me out. Give me a taste of the bottles. They're on this that's the taste. Cyrus talk to Cyrus. He'll throw one of those. Okay, guys, you know, a classic category of Maddie bees is the merge on two, the highway track. No, that's right. The drive in the song. But this time I want you to imagine your daughters in the car though. Okay. And you can't go too fast. Okay, I'm still on the ramp going up very slowly. But I can get in the diamond lane. Because once again, my daughter's in the back, but I'm going to be safe. But I got to get all the way like to fucking Irvine on the goddamn five. What are you going down there for? For the fucking basketball tournament. Okay, okay, hold on. Here we are. And I'm starting to pull up and I'm trying to get into the first lane. But people are driving like fucking assholes. But I'm keeping a good pace. Okay, that's right, sweetie. Daddy's not getting angry. Okay, okay, now they're letting me ease into the first lane, but it's still too slow. And I know I can work my way over again to the diamond lane. Here we go. Okay, second lane. We'll leave that way, by the way. Okay, not too fast though, but a little herky-jirky and get into the third lane. Okay, almost there. Almost there. Oh, godmotherfucker, let me in. Oh, I'm not, I'm not angry, honey. Just have to get this diamond lane so we can get to the tournament on time. Yes. Now I'm in the diamond lane. Okay, now I'm in the carpool lane, folks. Let's get this growing up. That's emerging onto the highway and I never got going too fast, but I kept up a good pace. And my wife would have taken much longer getting over. We would never have gotten to the diamond lane. She would say there's too much traffic to get over. So I think we could have waited for that or it's just knocked out in the back. I think that kids growing up to listen to my music. It's going to rebel. We could traumatize that. You guys have your own category that you would like to introduce right now on the best of 2025. I'll do this one. This one's just a song that most kind of describes like my life kind of a thing. Okay. This one is the 90s by Mark Blesit. Wow. Okay. Let me find that. This is not emerging onto the highway. This is this. Oh, you said start a new category. Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. I'm making it clear to our listeners. This is this category would be live. your life. That's a good life. Life life I've lived, you know, moments. Everyone's looking for that song every year. Okay here we go. Throwing pennies at rats on bleaker and tenths. Bowls on the store so they don't come through again. The walls whisper stories of lives that fell through. Like the cracks in the pavement where we'd push and move. It's not much of a king. Hey can't wait back can we but it's all out of hand. Did you catch those lyrics Matt? Queen start. Can we go back to the beginning? I don't know if you're catching that. This is aimed at me. We can't stand. So they don't come through again. The walls on the store Matt. You don't remember? You would throw rats at the you would throw pennies at the rats when you lived on bleaker and tenths. Right. And you put bowls on the stove so the rats wouldn't come through at night. How about this? That's the same. How about this one? The walls on the stove so they don't come through again. All whisper stories of lives that fell through. What? Did you make AI songs? That is free. That is based on the life of the great host of this program. It's so awesome. Thank you for that so much. That's great. That took me a second to figure out. Oh my god, that's hilarious. That's scary, man. I know. Oh yeah. I was thinking today because I saw someone complaining about the AI songs of like, how many songs do I not know that I'm listening to or that's bumming me out? Yeah. Yeah. We've had that on Who Chartered where we go. This one sounds like AI and then we find out that it is. It's crossed over. Not tough. Not so far songs that we've really liked. But that's coming. I'm sure. You know what I mean? Yeah. But it definitely crossed over in just the last two months of, oh, now we got to do due diligence to check almost anything if it's AI or not. So, by the way, I was listening to that song and I wasn't hearing those specifics. I know you were just taking the harmonic. It's called the 90s. It took me a while to realize, wait, I did live on Bleaker in 10. It just sounds so familiar like someone talking. Yeah. That is funny. But that one's called The 90s by Mark Bleschid. And the asshole. Oh, that's good, guys. You set me up for that one good. I could almost say, that's really good. I'm glad I didn't fucking compliment that. Oh, Jesus Christ. When it first went by, I was just like, we can't just let it go. That you just thought that I liked this. Yeah. You're an Ericie long time to set up folks on you. By the way, humans, the song I played my merging song, I ever set the fucking song was. It's playing classics by water from your eyes. Their whole album is really good this year. So, check that out. And of course, any AI version of my life should be checked out. Brett, do you have a category at any other pranks you guys just set me up for? There's no more pranks. No other pranks. I guess my category would be best song/best album that sounds absolutely like it was made from a completely different era. Okay. This is Sharp Pins with Papa Fingert. I've heard this. This whole album is really good. You could happily burst. Hey guys, you going to the protest? Yeah. I got to get some frankincense and murder first. Women's Man, Rosemary and Tyre. I'm so glad that CDs don't exist. What do you say you're glad CDs don't exist? We're born in the right window. I'm just saying that's funny. Yeah, this album is very good. It's very listenable. There's a lot of stuff sounds like the birds, but then also stuff that sounds like kind of 70s-ish. Yes. Good taste. Stuff that Rosie overdrive who has good lists, good music list, if you're looking for any guitar-based music. I suggest Rosie overdrive on the internet. So this next song I'd like to categorize as sold me the hardest. Like I heard this song and you're like, you know what? You sold me. I'm on board. I don't know if you've heard this. Kane Brown. Well, going country on us. This is mainstream country. I wear them out to those holes on the outside. They go at everything. I take them everywhere. Little mama came with a man, but she's still staring down. I probably don't need no more, but the second I walk through the door. Okay, he's about to walk through the door. Okay. So you just set up a lot of type of boots and style of boots. Howard, you know all about this. You lived in Austin. No, yes, shepplers don't right there. Don't know. No, no, no. Congress. Shepplers, shepplers. Yeah. So this guy, he's and at this point in the song, I'm like, I made it this far in the song. But when you get to this chorus right now, he's going to tell you exactly what he wants to buy to wear that night when he's going out on the town. Whoa. And he sold me on. Yeah, I want to be part of this. I tell him give me two bags of Luke K. C's. All I shared in some bull cuttings. I go all night. I'm stompin' to the beat. I just got a check. Lord, all of my feet. He wants two pairs of Luke K. C's. All I sure as Luke cuttings two pair. He wants two pairs, ladies and gentlemen. Not one pair, two pair. That's four boots. That's a no-dunneli with two pair. Give me two pair. You guys know that one? That's, he references no-dunneli in the song too. Oh, he doesn't. And it's a good thing because you want to hang out with this dude. Because guess what? He's going to be at the club not wanting to hold that second pair. And I will take them at that point. And I'll put on the Luke K. C's. New, new. I can't foreman like that. You think he's bringing extra just to give to other dudes? He doesn't want to hold it. What are you going to do with that second pair of boots at the club? I want two pair and a bag to put it in. I'll probably check it out. Maybe if he stands. If they get scuffed and he gets into a fight, then after the fight, he puts on the fresh pair. Just thinking about to take him off at that point. Bruss, hey, man, I'll hold those for you. I see all the chicks are talking to you. I'll hold you Luke K. C's. Here's boot ballet. Hey, where's that dude goes on my Luke K C's? Where's my boot got? Okay. Okay. Howard, do you have your own category? I could go with. This could be. Well, I mean, we could discuss this as a group. The Lilialin album was the biggest shock of an album to just come out of nowhere and also be crazy specific. Just set up our listeners with the backstory on that. Okay. So, Lilialin was in a marriage, I guess, with the guy from Stranger Things, David Harbor. Then I guess it was an open relationship, but he started pushing it. He was not just banging chicks, but taking them out and buying them stuff. She goes over there and she finds butt plugs and stuff. She's saying, "What am I stuck with a sex addict?" And then she goes right into the studio and almost free verse, almost like Ark Kelly with "Trap in the Closet." You're just kind of getting the story through her words. She dropped this shock of a album. Right. You know what he's talking about, right? Uh, yeah, I know the, I know the back story. Well, play the end of that song where she's on the phone. Which song is it? This is, um, yeah, which one is it? Is it pussy palace or Madeline? Uh, could be pussy palace. It could be whichever one's probably seven minutes long. Yeah, yeah. That's the way she does the Bob Newhart routine. She should talk to President Lincoln at the end of it. I'm sorry. Someone's on the other line. That's good. Oh, hello, Mr. President. I hope I, Lily Allen and Rickles. Is this it? Now there's no, there's no voicemail at that one. Isn't there one? The Madeline one is intense because she's like, and it's not voicemail, Brett. The woman that we're hearing her sigh of the conversation. West end girl. I mean, I'm just, these are shots. I'm sorry. Like I said, which one's the longest? I just, I want, I want to go back. No, I'm fine. I'm fine. I just, I want, I want you to be happy. This reminds me of dirty woman. Or what's the pink Floyd song where she like, oh, hangs up on. Okay. In the wall. Okay, I speak to you right now. It's nakedly intense. Wow. Now she just got in the diamond lane. Listen to that. But it's also pretty long too. I think it's like she's on the phone for like, I'm at least a minute there. Yeah. That was a bold choice because I got to say, I like that song, but I did not want to listen to that conversation every time. Yeah. Yeah. No. The album is a tough listen. It's, it's a little uncomfortable because it's so, um, you know, it's just so, it's so fresh. You know, she's not waiting a year to write about some, you know, she's just writing so fresh. And um, it's trying to take it out now. David Harbor. There you go. Promoting it. But, uh, and we know a love and doesn't like him. Hey, but I think it's a great antidote to the Taylor Swift stuff where you have to sit there and try to figure out what she's talking about. Lily Allen just gives you the, here's a bit of a Taylor. All right. No, no, I agree. It's more, it's like, oh, you want, you want a relationship gossip? I'm not going to just give you like little cutesy stuff. Yeah. No matter what you want. Yeah. It's all here. We cut to the next guy that's dating her. Hey, I've had a lot of fun with you. Do you mind not putting me in any song? It's like, she's dating Dave Kool-Yay now. Hey, um, Brett, do you have another category? Oh, yeah, I'm going to say, um, say it. I'm going to say this is the this the category when you're watching something on TV. And you're just not, you're just not sure what everyone sees in this thing. Why people are laughing. When I get the joints, you don't get the jokes. Yeah. This is David burn with. She explains things to me. She explains what is happening in the movies we watch. I ask why did they do that? Why did they stop? Why did they say that on that TV show? Wanna ask myself? Wow. How did she know? She explains what a character really meant. What was their motive? What was their intent? She explains the things that we're supposed to. Wow. This is a shot at his ex, obviously. How does that? Oh, yeah, she's meant she's she's basically divorced. The new one is finally explaining these things right. Um, that this is a, I might come back to this David burn album later, but I love this one. You heard it listeners. Tease. Why? Because you think it's awesome. I think it's awesome. I think it's like he, he's never, you know, he's ever been bad or something. But he's had his dips, but like this feels like a return to form. Wow. Hey, my strong words on best of 2025 music. Those are the strong hard opinions I want. This next category, you could say songs that made me blush the most in 2025 could be the category. You know, uh, sexy red might have gotten that in the past. Yes. Years, but this one, this one literally came on. I think twice, at least once in the car with my wife where she looked at me like, what the fuck Matt? So this is how the song starts. This is by Ash Niko. Ash Niko. She goes hard off of smooth. Jesus is itty bitty. What the fuck? What the fuck? Okay. I can't turn it off. I can't find the fucking button to turn it off. As soon as we get in the diamond lane, this is like a board of music. Why is it making me drag faster? Wow. Whoa. Fuck man. Whoa. Ash Niko makes me blush like, oh, I'm happy like I missed something in life. I like that. It's green. You don't hear that. The album is awesome. And a lot of songs. If you don't mind every song being about fucking. It was a porn plot. Oh, fuck out. If I fuck this fast, oh my god. It hurt. All right. There you go. So I think that was a pretty wild. She took it to the next level. Yeah, that's a definitely good one. Human. There was a scene right here that you are sadly missing to unlock all bonus scenes. Go to improv for humans.com and subscribe now. Humans were sung of the year by Graham Barham. It's called oil money. This kind of music. This is a type of country. This is even country rap. People say turn it down the notch. Fishy went to send you tattoo love a craft sent. Mom. I said. I was only headed for home. Alice for night. I said, maybe we should run a food. Maybe somewhere they got nine. Dude has the auto tune crank to 11. R.I.P. Rob Reiner. Whoa. All these references are specifically like the Dallas area of Texas. Yeah, I said you. Debell. There it is. She's got a body like oil money. I love it. That's so Trump. That's what made me think of it. So lad man, you watching that? Ah, man, Billy Bob, fellow or canton, but he, I don't know man. He's a hard watch for me. Yeah, I'm with it. So no, I'm not in on his account. I was like, fling blade. Want some male scuds? Hey, uh, I'm not as good as I am. We're so many years. We're doing. Yeah, we're so near. That's a great category. I don't know if we've ever done that on best stuff because it goes. I like it a little show, but let's do it. What's your worst? In a pinch, in a pinch, what's coming to mind is Motley crew and Dolly Parton, home sweet home. Oh my god. But is that for real? But there's a caveat with that and that there's nothing. It's just the old recording with Dolly Parton parts, but it is a 20, 25 release. It didn't exist before 20, 25. I just, I love the laziness of just not even re-recording it. You got to cut to the Dolly part. I kind of like that. This is elder abuse. You get the picture. Yeah. I got to say I kind of like it. Okay. Be looking that up. One man trash because you like the original song, right? Are you like her parts? I just love Dolly. I like the harmony that's down there. Maybe I say most, most unnecessary cover or maybe not the worst song of the year, but the most. But why do you have another worse song? Yeah, I'll go with I'm trying to find it Let's see where's it Let's see This is sort of the worst okay, I'm pulling an audible now that I see this one. Okay. This is insane clown Posse with softy pillow man But this is also kind of the best me of this one's good. Okay Let's see if you can tell what he's even talking about What am I girlfriend on tin simply Blue Dune buggy mr. Pink pussy holes softer than a snuggie his face Baby a ringer tank he sits and he cries on his big brown eyes He blows his back down There's one in every cruise guys who have a pillow on their seat in their car He starts off with there's one in every crew this guy with a blue dune buggy It's got a cute face I He's in a community of dune buggy. He's a softy pillow man ass Just softy pillow man. Oh here it is It's making up a problem When he pitched that's the rest of the band like I don't know man. I've never had what are you talking about? Yeah, don't worry about man people have this All my dune buggy guys They're tough guys they're not gonna have some pillow especially in their dune buggy when they're going hop in Mansion had dune buggy. It's tough guy stuff Yeah, Manson had dune buggy. Yeah, he wanted his dream was a dune buggy attack battalion that would ignite the race war oh Wow Did not had been and had done didn't remember the dune buggy aspect of that Yeah, so I'm gonna make sense for his I shoot every day Humon every year because you know We have a robot that works for the show intros the show and we love humons. I used to ban AI and he and robots from the show way before it was cool way before it was cool, but I always have robot music This is Jirachi off of I love my computer. We've played a track of theirs on Improfory humans this is CS I RAC Sirass I RAC But I this if I'm DJ and a robot party I'm putting this on if it's like a human Cyborg Android what have you mixed robot human party? I'm like what will robot stance to oh? They're getting up. Yeah, they're all up now all the robots That's right. I picked it. I picked a song and I'm human Little does he know he is not human All right guys, do you have your own category of robot music? Our music made by robots or would you like to move on to your own categories that you have in the wings? dealer's choice I Think Howard Yeah, yeah, I don't have any robot. I was not alerted to be a robot. Okay. I only set that memo recently I could go to a circle and albums of the year type of thing. Okay Let me see if I have any other categories. I want to cover. I don't think so we could go to unless Brett go ahead sure I mean I got I got stuff. This is best this is Most interesting little guitar part This is a very Brett I think you like it, but it's not a complicated guitar part It's just a weird bend that got everyone talking on social media and it blew up This is if you know me by Hudson Freeman listen Listen how it starts this riff This blew up on social media even John Mayer was trying to learn that little band I Don't know where or this strings kind of bend What was that? Is that the part you're talking about? Yeah, it's just a good it's a great guitar lick and everyone liked it and now this guy's famous. He's kind of a clearest guy That's amazing that you can come up with a guitar lick and that that's the thing. Yeah No, it's kind of been cool to watch like it's not reinventing the wheel, but it's just I don't know Part of a song 2025 It's a good song. I thought you would like it. I do like it. I do like it. I'm not sure I would have Listen I would listen that and gone. I like this song, but I wouldn't have gone. Oh, this is The guitar lick and this is difficult All right, it's just it's different. It's cool sounding. It's a little distant I'm and now you've inspired maybe my last category, but this is the opposite the flip of that which is part of a song that possibly ruin the song I'll point the car the other day and my daughter was like what's this far and I like to imagine that a Cousin of someone in the band like guilty of them is like I want to play something in the song So this this is song by Kudy Catchers called friend of a friend So Is this a good kind of song we're going around Oh Small robots the squiggly maybe You twisted knobs back there. Yeah, uh-oh Hey, hey stop that I could go He's playing with square wave specter. That's very good Hey, man, we want your cousin's part mixed out of the song We think it'll be hit song. We don't hear that crazy. That's what they could have said about Dolly being in home sweet home Just mix her out of that Well, that was the original that was the original before she got mixed out Yeah, that's how they should have sold that song. This is the first take of that when she was still in it All right, so what's next? Okay, well, this is it man. We got to bring this home and I think we will start with best Songs of the year so Howard what is your best song of the year? Well, I'm not gonna say exact best song That'd be great if you just didn't tell us I will not tell you I will not reveal I have it in my head. Yeah, it'll never be revealed This to me would be I would call this best song by a new artist and it's blue strips by Jesse Murph Okay, let's hear this all right. I'll be details from my fucking life Imagine a You know Yeah, you got me going blue strips bits in a strip club At your bitch and I know you know it's going off. I'm going home. I'm gonna take it off That's a pregnancy test blue strip What no, what is it? I'm asking blue strips is the strips on the hundred dollar bill or something like that when you get them fresh out of the back I guess she's throwing money That's I never heard them called blue strips That's what they do that you didn't know was called the Benjamin's before a rapper Senate That's that's that I could figure it out a little bit easier That were really analyzing the hundred dollar bill now Well in that six seven song I believe they reference I'm conflating songs pink slips. Oh Seven song which is when you beat someone in a a race. You take it for pink for pink slips. Yeah. Okay. Humans, what about you, Brett? What is your song of the year? I did like that song, brother. Well, oh, it's good. She's got it. She's got a she's doing a thing with country and hip hop. That's kind of I was about to write start out very country. Then we're starting to dance. I'll say this is a tough category for me, especially this year. Nothing jumps out as like I'm going to convince you that there's the best song of the year. Okay. I agree with that. But this is a good, this is a song I got a lot of enjoyment out from a band that I just love that is very consistent. And this could also be in the category of a unreliable narrator we talk about on who charted with Howard where the guys telling you a very stupid story about then you have it's a little shaky. This is Viagra boys with the bog body. And he has a lot of problems. He has a lot of problems with you, Besser. Listen about listen to this. You're takes lately. I've been pissing this isn't about you. Don't confuse him. This is not about you, Besser. All right. Singing about me. I'll see you in the next one. [Music] I like it. I don't know what Besser trying to say. I'm consumed with jealousy though. Yeah, he's not talking about this bog body that was found under the ice. He's accusing the person he's talking to of being obsessed with it. He says, you're obsessed with it. I don't understand why you have a problem with this thing. You're consumed with jealousy. I'm just funny that aspect. But I would say that is to me is the rock song of the year. That is definitely brilliant. I'm convinced. I like that. I've heard that album and I don't know why I didn't hear that one before it just took out to me. But it did playing it right there. Maybe because I thought it was about me. I painted it. Humans, we're going to, you know, I like to walk down along Peer getting up to this. And I always like to take a nod in a tip of the hat to past improv for humans, guests that have been on the show that do have albums out. The cabin on the hill with the Roon Brothers, man. This dude's boy so distinctive. Check out the whole album. Ben Nichols in Loan sometimes. He has a solo album and also Rick Steph, plain that I believe he did that live show with him as well. Craig Finn had a new solo album. This is a lot of people of substance. You got to always show lyrics on there. Couple that he tells you some stories. Caroline Spence had a great new album out. Murdered by death. I went and saw their last tour guys and they have a new album out. Won't tour again and so good. These are former guests of the show. What's that? These are all guests of the show. All guests of the show. Call of phone who was on this last year had a new album out. Can we give them bang and ice wise by dragging? Oh, fuck yes. Let's do that right now. One of the best new songs I just saw satirical remind me of ice body count really. Can we? Oh, you heard it right and dragon boy song. I have. I heard it like two days ago. Where's your spirit? On the airwaves. Really? I'll meet up with your wife and you know I'm gonna work. I love once and give him my scream. Your wife will separate you after she tastes my beef. Oh, I love it. Hell yeah. The bullying we need are pop killers. There you go. This will change things. Yeah, that's funny dude. Yeah, put that out with marshland monster shout out for the colette. Nice few months now. You know, I'm gonna ramp this up to my actual choice. But I first off, when I looked at all these lists, I'm getting educated by other people's list. The bands you see are artists. Geese got a lot of love this year with their people love that rose a lot. Leah, she had a lot of songs. She got a lot of love. My wife and daughter know her work in the kind of music. I prefer maybe with the guitars. Wednesday had a great also autobiographical guitar oriented album that was really good. And in country Carter Carter faith, Cherry Valley was a great one. But you know, we're not the mainstream here. And I'd like to point out. Oh, another one. Do you guys know SG Goodman? Sadolite. Do you hear her all this year? Oh, another one that got a lot of. But humans. Let's just be honest. I used to connect with punk music. All the cat. When you live on bleaker and 10th. Yeah, exactly. Kim's video around the corner. Humans and hip condomania condomania. Back in the Wu Tain clan days. Oh, yeah, PE two Wu Tain. You know, but these days, I just listened to like the Brooklyn vegans top 50 punk Alms. They all sound the same to me. That emo that's going on. It sounds with you on that. And then the rap for the most part, they kind of sound the emo and the rap the same. It sounds like everyone's fucking whispering all the time. I'm with you on that. That's asking for energy. So those used to be two categories that I enjoyed, but I just can't find enough in there. I actually think Cardi B had the best album of the year as far as that goes. But what do I know? Because I can't. I agree with you on that. Americana is the only thing I feel connected to these days. And I know it's like, well, yeah, you're fucking old white man. I get it. But I do feel like good things are happening in that genre. And friend of the show, Dylan Earl, who's been on the show. He has a, I'm going to get to the chorus. This is two kinds of loner. He has a great old school. Matt, I like the song and everything, but it doesn't really make the case that there's new stuff happening over there. That's why this song is probably my song of the year. But when you say new stuff, like do you ever infoke Americana country? Like, this is Drifter by Connor Stevens and Country Worms. This is probably Spotify would accuse me. They'd wrap me up and say, this is the song you play the most this year. Song of the year for Matty B was in the Americana category. So I like Howard. You're not listening to that going. There's something new. But is that always what makes the song? But I mean, just as far as we talked about those other categories, like I don't think it's the apex or the golden age of rap right now. And I agree with you, it's not the golden age of punk. And then with Americana, I don't know, I don't know when that golden age, I mean, that golden age happened a long time ago, just giving you some controversy. I appreciate the pushback. You know, I think Jason Isbohl is with South Eastern that that was a that was a year when Americana might have you could argue peaked. They are. Are we allowed to jump back? I forgot one of my worst songs of the year. Worst songs? Sure. Why not? Let's do it. Okay. Men without hats. I love the 80s. Oh, this is amazing. Man, this isn't a cheap minute. I didn't know he was still recording. He's still recording. This is a new song. Seems like it's Joe. It's like that song in the 90s, my Mark. He got one of those too. The sounds like best are doing a parody. It does. It does. It does. It does. It does. It does. It does. It does. What year of a. I believe. I believe. He should be a prince. Even in years. What year of a. What year of a. I always picture him singing and dancing down a street with people following him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pied Piper. Anyway, that one's not. But the second verse he goes with the even years. I was about to say. He do. I wish you had at least referenced one thing like Billy Joel does. And start the fire that comes out and every here. He just said the year. I just love the year. And here it is. 87. Okay, album of the year. Let's bring this home. What album of the year and give us a track. You have a little taste off that album. Like I said, it seems the critics are saying it's Geese, baby. But what do you guys say? I don't know how to feel about Geese. I haven't seen something that's just pulled me in yet. Me neither. Me neither. I've got two album of the year kind of deals. Okay. Okay, that's a good deal. Are we ready for that now? Yeah. Okay, shout it out. This would be this maybe not my album of the year. But it's my cohesive album of the year. A lot of times you say, oh, that's the album of the year because it had like seven good songs out of 12. But this is just a cohesive album. You know what you're talking about. The album works as an album. It's not just a collection of songs. And this is a great driving album to it's got a lower forward momentum. But the band. Do it with my daughter in the back. Yes, of course. You should love this. It's female band. Automatic is the band. And I guess the song play black box, I guess. Okay. I forgot about this one. Not your ramping up, you're getting on to the freeway. I'm still driving up the ramp. Respectfully. Good baseline for uh. Oh, just like for beginners. Just hit cut. There's that guy on the knobs again. Yeah, he's squirreling. He sees it in rhythm this time. Root record. Root record. All right, talk over it. Explain why it works as an album. What makes it? We're headed down. We're going down. We're going to do. We're going to drive down the beach. Fuck that. I can't do the whole play by play. But um. If you had a night like a night drive, like you're coming home for like a four hour haul from me. Nice and quiet. You guys with a steady build. Great. Great. Great highway music. I love it. Goes along to the past. We've talked about who charted. It's like the girls have taken over rap. It's like the hardest hitting rappers in some ways. Yes. Most threatening. And then they've also taken over kind of indie like alternative bands in a lot of ways. Yeah. Yeah. Last dinner party. For these like very cool hit. Like I said, that Lamborghini girls album is really good. Yeah. Well, then that. Oh yeah. Do you have a second one? How are you time out? Well, that being said, I might as well just tell you the other one is wet like. No, there you go. The best, the most amount of songs that I think are like I like a great song. Yeah, you can play. Yeah. A lot of bass. A bass line. Yeah, wet like. I do like this album. Great band. They followed up their last one. It was caught. Yeah. They did. And there's really a band that a lot of people copy too. Some bands, nobody really copies. But you can hear a lot of people. Well, that band I was playing earlier. From your eyes, my merging music. You could say sounds a little bit like them. But I think they pull off a good copy if that's what it is. Yeah, but yeah, big year for women. Wetleg, last year in a party. Lilialin, Cardi B, Ashneco. I think they took the year if you were comparing. I wasn't thinking of it that way, but I'm going to agree. And I didn't mention her earlier, but Zanny. Halop. Zandy Halop, I think, had the like the country album. Yeah. Of course, you don't just you're. But guys, but guys, we got it. We got to wrap this up. And on some level, you guys are going to relate to my choice here. So as I'm going to close the show up. So sorry, so sorry. See, Brett, you gave him tune through me off rhythm. So, Brett, your next, no, I'm closing the show. Brett, your next go. All right. Couple shout outs. I don't even need to play them. Shout out because, you know, people might accuse me of only listening to heavy rock or something. Kneecap. They are heavy. But they're kind of EDM. But they're the British EDM like new, you know, they had a lot of heat this year. They say Mac DeMarco in terms of like Gen Z artists that they would approve of that are like legitimately of the now. He had a really good album that I like a lot. Cardiacs, which has been a lot of people I haven't heard of. But in terms of like a challenging, truly like novel musical choices. Okay. Good album. But then the actual album, I think I listened to the most in that I was just a was song by song just being like I like that song. I always say I like that song. This whole album is cohesive and it just sounds it keeps the energy up. And it's all good. Good little talk. You haven't even heard of them. The real tosses up there too. Frankie and the witch fingers. And this song. Yeah, yeah. The song is called "Fuck'sake" and you're going to like it but the whole album I think you're just going to be impressed. Like they're kind of devourish but it's just all well done. The album's called "Trash Classic". ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ I remember that was a good one too. I remember this thing. ♪ ♪ All the songs you put them on you're like oh shit that's great. Tight unit. Yeah. ♪ ♪ That does not do you know. Yeah. What's the name of the band? One more time with the name of the album. "Trash Classic" is the album. Wow. I like that. You see this is the type of list that should be you know it doesn't help for every fucking list to have geese. It's like yeah the other fucking list told me about geese. I'm excited that I wasn't even on my rage fingers. I avoided the geese thing somehow. But I will tell you what the three of us are. did not avoid. One album that is uniquely tied possibly in a weird way to the three of us and was literally given to me early in the year and when I heard it I even thought to myself it's gonna be hard to beat this album and this is why because as Howard was saying earlier it is an album that is in so many ways pulled together as a concept in the truest sense of the word concept album by friends of the show hallelujah the hills oh yeah yeah friends of our show as well hell yeah 52 songs 52 songs now this is a guy that was on improv for humans many years ago perhaps one of our first I bet first half dozen musical guys yeah and I've always like what would you call them possibly chamber rock possibly because they have so many instruments something like that doesn't really matter but I've always enjoyed the hallelujah the hills sound now we've had radical face on in the past they had their family tree concept album which I fucking loved and in the same way I loved it for how it pulls together these guys 52 songs are 69 love songs by the magnetic fields that was an epic epic song in indie music but having that takes a lot of fucking work man that's insane yeah and it's not and it's not filler it's like they're trying so many different things on all these 52 songs and there's a ton of songs that like you said I go oh that's good so you're like let me let me describe it more he came on who charted at the beginning of that project and described it sort of in detail to us our remember like he setting out his ambitious plan and and and I was just thinking like man good luck that sounds like a lot like and that's such a detailed and he pulled it off very well yes thank you Brett it's called deck every every card in the deck has a song yeah represented by every every suit has an album yes exactly it's like one of those comma sutra the deck of cards and what I like about it is I have spent the whole year listening to it and different songs that didn't hit me at first later hit me like some songs hit me I'm like oh that's a catchy song that's a really good song but they tried so many different things the the one I called the song of the summer of one of my favorite songs yeah is in the deck of hearts and I became partial with certain decks I love this is I'll get over it the three of hearts something the breeze it got me all my music desperate I'm sad and I all the glows in my passport but the fifty two songs humans you got to appreciate it whether you're going to stream out or buy the whole thing and it comes it comes with I think they all come with a deck of cards yeah physical so if you're supporting indie music and artists who are really going for it I'd say support how Louie the Hills and you can't go wrong is 52 songs I told I told you I told Ryan that hook I'll get over it if I can get out from under it it's like he found one of those lyrical hooks that every every songwriter wish he wrote I think it just immediately sounds classic the perfect one bright it's never getting less effective like you know what I mean it's just right everyone related that so humans we have talked about a lot of good music and even some shitty music had fun with that so get over it also there's 52 versions of bleaker and 10th that was a good one guys you actually could embarrass me more and I'm glad we weren't trying to go on yet yeah wow now we weren't trying to hoodwink you we just thought it'd be funny to see the lyrics don't on you don't on you speaking real quick speaking of country Sam Fender as a guy who's real kind of he's kind of authentic you're not into it now I'm not I'm guilty pleasures though I think I have some Sam Fenders in my but do you guys know Hardy yeah we talk about he's got some good stuff we just he's the most he's the most vibrant of the lyricals in country today really he vibrant he's the most vivid he tells a compelling story even when I'm not in agreement with him as a human nice okay all right this is a little this one the good one is favorite country song we just listen to yeah famous premise that you think would just be a dog shit song and he somehow makes it kind of kind of he's got we he's got another one we played last year called waiting the truck he's a he's a he's a good storyteller truck centric but humans we got we got to wrap it up because we could talk about music forever we're gonna put this playlist up
