The conversation is a vibrant, humorous, and nostalgic reflection on high school life, blending personal stories with cultural touchstones. The speakers share candid experiences of academic struggles—like poor math skills and emotional distress during tests—alongside leadership roles, such as running for student council or serving on an honor council, where they faced real consequences for their actions. Memorable moments include high school traditions like outdoor lockers, politics-related superlatives, and chaotic parties, often fueled by peer pressure and rebellion. They reference iconic shows and movies—such as *Freaks and Geeks*, *Easy A*, and *Friday Night Lights*—as formative influences that shaped their identities. The dialogue is filled with humor, self-deprecation, and vivid anecdotes, like a legendary RA party, a drunken trip to a college bar, or a scene from *Things I Hate About You* that sparked deep emotional reactions. Themes of identity, friendship, and social belonging emerge throughout, revealing how teenage experiences are both messy and meaningful. The narrative also touches on broader cultural trends, from viral fashion choices to political activism, and ends with a reflective tone on personal growth, resilience, and the enduring power of shared memories in shaping who we become.
I was in mostly advanced math classes.
That's shocking to me.
And writing classes.
I can barely do long division.
You're like, PEMDAS is what?
That I knew.
But Y equals MX plus B?
Shut the fuck up right now.
You're like, actually, I'm walking.
I'm done.
I'm out of here.
I would cry every test I took.
Hey, it's Peyton.
And it's Hunter.
And this is, let me say this, from higher ground.
Well, you know what I think about back to school?
I think about that line from You Got Mail.
The bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils.
Now that's romance.
We are so type A.
You are so type A.
And I am sometimes type A.
You're type A passing.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I'm like type A moon.
Like Hunter sees my strix eye come out and it does.
Oh, when the T's get crisp, that's when the strix eye.
She said.
No.
It's a hard period.
But it's not summer is ending.
It's summer is coming to an end.
We're not there yet.
In some communities, yeah.
People, real ones know that it doesn't end until Halloween.
But school is starting.
Yeah.
It's like kind of like, what kind of student were you?
A little, we're getting into a little back to school vibes.
A little tea about us as high schoolers.
Some of our favorite shows we watched about high school.
Movies we love about high school.
And then a couple superlatives for how the summer's been.
Yeah.
Who's shown up and shown.
I want to take it home.
I want to take it personal.
Okay.
I like when you do that.
Okay.
Did you get a superlative in high school?
Of course you did.
Duh.
Oh my God.
What am I even thinking?
Of course you did.
I went to like a really small all girls high school.
So our superlatives weren't like classic TM big high school kind.
Like they were hyper niche and kind of annoying that way.
So my superlative was most likely to see the future and end up having a TV show about how
she can see the future.
Okay.
Raven Simone.
Okay.
I see it.
I mean, yeah, she, I mean, that's a little bit of a podcast.
That's a little bit of like what a podcast is.
Um, so like it was just like an annoying joke cause all my friends obviously submitted it
for me cause they're like, everyone called me Raven Simone derogatory.
It wasn't always complimentary for the record.
Interesting.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It went both ways.
Just like me.
Yeah.
Um, nope.
But nope, they won't get me.
Um, but what about you?
Did you guys do high school superlatives?
Oh, of course we did.
Of course.
Did you have a big high school or small high school?
No, I went to a small high school.
I, um, went to a school called Holland Hall.
It was like a very small Episcopal school.
I think there were like a thousand students like from preschool through like 12th grade.
Oh, oh, so you stayed there the whole time.
No, no, no.
I went to private, I went to Catholic school first.
Oh, okay.
I went from there preschool through eighth grade and then I went to public school for
two years and then I went to private school for the last two years and that was like the
upper school.
I was there junior and senior year.
I always think the most well-adjusted people went to both private and public school.
And you know what?
I'm always saying that about myself.
I'm super well-adjusted.
I was talking about you.
Actually, everyone agrees.
Your therapist is like, yes.
Universal acclaim for being well-adjusted.
Um, but yes, I got a superlative.
Okay.
So randomly I got most likely to be president.
Oh, come on, Obama.
Michelle was like, wait, what?
But that's crazy because I'm like, I think no one understood because I was just like
the liberal girl.
I'm from Oklahoma.
I was just the liberal girl.
I would always be talking about politics.
Woke.
Um, and so I think that's why they made me, cause I was surprised to get most likely to
be president.
But wait, I don't, I kind of don't get why you're surprised.
Because I'm like, I've, I would never be a politician.
But I don't think it has anything to do with politics, my love.
What do you think of it?
I feel like it's more so, it's probably saying that you're a leader slash dictator at that
age.
I know.
I saw those little glasses as a kid.
I said, Oh, she don't play.
But you know what I mean?
I feel like it's probably more of a testament to like a leadership quality or like your
way or the highway.
Ms. Diva.
Or maybe both.
I'm going to be generous and say it could be both.
Well, you know what?
I hear it.
Hunter being like, that's how strict you are to be like, I'm not even involved in politics
like that.
So I don't even know why my name is coming up for this.
I, I truly for 15 years.
You said, what happened to best legs?
I've been confused.
Yeah.
Like, why would I get that?
Cause I'm always talking about politics.
I'm always running this mouth.
Well, I'm like, wait, so it makes perfect sense just by the way.
But like, here you.
But we got there.
Presidents.
Class president.
How many times in a row?
Term limits.
Three Pete.
Nixon three.
Dixon three.
Dead ass though.
While I was running that school, like the Navy.
And the funny thing was though, like I, they could have stopped me.
Like I was, I was constantly breaking dress code.
I was always getting in trouble.
My friends were bad.
My friends were all love, but they, it wasn't looking good for me.
But I, I had to hold us up.
You know what I mean?
Wow.
Yeah.
So in my head, I'm kind of like.
Like they, they could have like taken me off of the iron throne if they needed to.
Because someone secretly who was on council with me, I think it was a school camp.
She was like, actually, I think if people have a certain amount of demerits, they shouldn't
even be allowed to run for council.
And I famously had like a lot of demerits.
Mostly for you.
That was like, like publicly people knew that you had demerits.
You, yeah, you get like a slip.
And so like if you get one, people see you getting it.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
Okay.
So couldn't stop me.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
They tried to bury me.
Kim tried to bury me, but she didn't know I was a seed.
You weren't on student council though, Kee?
I feel like that's fair.
No, our school, like we, progressive for Oklahoma, there was no homecoming king or queen.
We didn't do superlatives.
Even that we did that, I thought was like kind of random.
Yeah.
There was no, like, I don't think there was a student council, but you know what there
was?
What?
Honor council.
The student.
The cops.
Teacher.
No, no, no.
What?
It's for people who believe in justice.
And I believe in justice.
And I also believe in justice.
And I believe in, guess what?
Gossiping.
So of course I was on honor council because they truly biggest gossips in the school.
Like they chose me and one of my friends who loves drama, Tamarco, shout out, to be on
honor council because we would, we would, you know.
So what do you have to do though?
Decide if someone is in trouble or not?
Like, do you get to make that decision?
Basically, yeah.
Yeah.
So someone gets in trouble and they come to honor council and we like sit around this
table and like deliberate about what should happen, like what their punishment should
be.
Because I, my school had, um, it's actually.
I think Punahou has this too, where I had, it was like a lot of free time, like off time.
Um, and so if you like were in trouble, you like couldn't leave campus on like your free
time.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And yeah, I, I laid down the law.
Not really.
I was like, honestly, this is high school.
It's hard enough.
Unless I didn't like someone.
And then I was like, you know what?
Expel them.
They were like, she was just 20 minutes late.
Like it was like, yo, ACAB and that includes Hunter.
Oh my God.
I believe in restorative justice.
Oh, wait, what was your extracurricular tea?
Like post school?
What'd you get into?
Uh, oh, I was a football manager.
That's a piece of lore that not a lot of people know.
I did know that.
Yes.
I think I told you it was kind of whorish of you to be.
Oh, absolutely.
Oh, absolutely.
Jim, boys, cover up.
Let me tell you what.
This is, talk about being a hoe.
I said, you know what?
I want to be soccer manager too.
Never.
They never had a soccer manager before.
I said, boys soccer specifically.
We should start.
I said, I can do it.
I got in trouble.
What does that entail?
Like, what do you do?
What does it entail?
Like make sure they show up on time?
This is the most private school thing in the world.
No, someone else put the dirty uniforms in the wash
and we would take them out of the dryer and fold them
and put them in the boys' lockers.
And then we would get treats like cupcakes and stuff
and put them in the seniors' lockers.
And we would carry around the water bottles.
What kind of job?
What kind of job is this?
We had to have a sports credit.
I would say that's quite ableist.
That's how you got your sports credit?
Yeah, I would say it's ableist
because some people are unable to be good at sports.
I had track for one day
because a coach wanted to go with my mom.
So. You are one of like my top friends,
like one, two, three of like
who I need to see running at full speed.
I don't run.
You know that.
I don't run.
Just one time, I need to see what that looks like.
I actually, I did run this morning on the treadmill
and I said,
there's a few people out there
and there's a photographer there.
I said, put that away.
Don't get any of this.
Turn that camera.
Oh, I hate running.
I'm cracking up.
You submitting W-9s for leaving cupcakes in seniors' lockers.
I'm going to kill you.
I played like every sport.
Really?
Yeah.
And you still have time to dance?
Yeah.
I had a nine to five dance career.
It was insane.
Multi-hyphenate.
Yeah.
I think, but it's like not,
honestly having an older brother so close in age,
it started with me just,
because I played football for a bit.
Oh, that I know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I can't imagine thinking I was straight
and I'm like putting lines under my foot,
being like, let's go.
Come on, Cameron, pass the ball.
I'm running back.
My parents are like, hmm.
But that's when you had your dad's face.
Like that.
It was a different time.
Yeah.
I had to work with what I had,
which was like athlete.
Yeah.
I was a little butch with it then.
Yeah.
But yeah, I ran track.
I played basketball.
Soccer was the only sport I didn't play.
I played lacrosse for a second.
I did crew because I had a crush on this girl.
Which one is crew?
The boat.
Oh, row, row, row.
Row, row, row.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
From the social network.
Armie Hammer.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I love when I get to transit and be like, you know, crew, social network, Armie Hammer.
Hunter thinks one plays him.
He plays one role hotter than the other.
Love it.
One twin hotter than the other.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, listen, it's true.
It's true.
Michael B. Jordan took a few notes.
Yeah.
Look at him.
One best actor.
That's okay.
Actually, say that.
It was so early, though.
You have to wake up at like five o'clock in the morning, drive to the marina.
It was so fucking cold.
I don't even like to hear the word marina.
You better be talking about Marina and the Diamonds.
What?
No, Del Rey, girl.
that's a place to be my mom just moved there anyway like lana yeah a little bit
but it was just it was too much but yeah i was mostly doing that i guess sports and dance wow
i know that's hard well i was doing a newspaper oh yeah um and then i actually i reviewed the
social network for my high school newspaper which is like a news magazine modeled after time
random af and i got in trouble because the head of the upper school dm me i'll tell you his name
said that he thought i used too many big words in my review what swear to god i'm like that's
clearly racist like that's what we actually call racism um but yeah and then oh and then i did a
hostile takeover of the film club what do you mean i just said i want to yeah i just want i
want to take this over i want this to be my thing now you're like let's fix this up it's
amazing
let's go get you a home a white refrigerator you in the film club yeah i don't i feel like
partially like i just like to be nosy like i just like to see what's up oh that doesn't
surprise me at all yeah yeah that's we cut from the same cloth there i what you're doing over there
let me see let me let me see what you're doing and then getting involved even if we don't really
care that much about a hundred percent but yeah that was kind of my little high school thing how
did you spend summers how did i spend summers um with my portable dvd player watching movies
yo what can i say dvd best summer of my life was the summer that blockbuster had a movie pass you
could rent two movies i would rent one auntie would rent the other and that oh my god i i would go up
to blockbuster two and three times a day i loved blockbuster i still have my blockbuster card
well my mom's i guess well i was gonna be like bring it back but no it's dead and gone i guess
it's over honestly blockbuster is what introduced me to nickelback because i got into a screaming
fight with my brother it got physical
i might have lost but i won that surprises me i know because well what i learned eventually was
to fight with my feet i'm a little bottom heavy in that way so like when i tried to swing on lewis
it never worked he's taller yeah i'm like what are you so i kick what are you he's now like at 32
yeah my brother's tall 62 is the hottest height isn't that so annoying he got my mom's face and
my mom and dad's height and i got 5'4 and a bad attitude but a lot of personality so you don't
you present as tall though i do
5'7 so do i yeah um anyway so um nickelback blockbuster i was like what are we talking about
um oh i was sitting in a blockbuster got in a huge fight with my brother somehow i ended up being at
fall don't understand how that happened my mom's like dm me i'll tell you so i didn't get to pick
a movie so instead i sat in the car and i put on a now this cd ah yes and nickelback now this cd
oh my god look at the media
they ruin everything i put on now music and i put that cd in and uh nickelback either it was
rockstar or this is how you remind me played and i was like now those are some soul brothers how
does rockstar go oh um hey hey i want to be a rock star i want to
i'm gonna create um a bathroom i can play baseball in a bathroom i can play baseball in yeah
what and then on sequitur i'm gonna play baseball in a bathroom i can play baseball in yeah
oh my god they they was getting a little creative with uh is that is that a euphemism for something
no they just want all the stuff so they're listening like they want like playboy bunnies
with the bleach bond hair and one of the lyrics was in a bathroom i could play baseball in
they're they're reaching for the stars like a bathroom just so big
or i guess innings like like how you say like first base second base third base i guess
but i don't think they're thinking that far i'll tell you no shade i like how you like the false
equivalents there with a playboy bunny with a bleach blonde hair oh yeah a bathroom i can play
baseball in well there's a few lyrics between them i just lost them totally sorry i'm not off
book right now but this is how you remind me of a different thing that i know but i do love a
blockbuster r.i.p what was the most trouble you ever got in in high school or school in general
because mine is from middle school good girl oh um
i'm only thinking of my
brother because he got in real trouble and i got in fake trouble like and i also because the black
man's plate yeah yeah it'd be like casey comes on that's what i was talking about how black men
actually have an harder no what females need to do yeah like i was actually again especially
compared to some of the the crew i was rolling with like i was pretty good like wait who are
your high school friends what what is this crude paint me a picture specifically right like it's
not it's not the who do you know kayla it's like not her she's obviously actually she was like
sometimes too but particularly this girl i had a pretty big friend group we were all different we
got called the united nations not because we were peaceful but because we're the only few people
but i don't want to name their names because like i don't know if they keep up with me or not but
no but i mean like give me an idea of like what the friend group was like what was your drama
like what you guys talking about smoking weed on campus leaving campus in the middle of the day
um what did you start drinking places early
when was like when did you start underage drinking eighth grade maybe
oh my that's see that took me a while i didn't really get to weed a while because i knew i was
anxious but that's what it means to be a city kid city slicker yeah that's almost like a hard
oh my god yeah but my my friends were like not they were getting into trouble they were it was
bad i was pretty good i was even when i was throwing house parties and like the cops came
which they did one time and they were like oh my god i'm not gonna do that i'm not gonna do that
they were like you're getting noise complaints i lived across the street from like the former
chief of police oh so what was i doing throwing parties oh and i would be like wasted openly
normally like sorry sir i there was only six people here panted a hundred niggas in the back
just being like everyone also mind you not hiding this frozen literally because we were drunk and
stupid and teen that is actually so high school but i think honestly because like my parents are
just going through a pretty rough divorce they didn't have the energy to really reprimand me
especially because i was on honor roll i was on council you were on honor roll yeah i'm smart
famously a lot of people think just because i have a big heart that i'm dumb but i didn't mean to be
so surprised i didn't i didn't mean to be so surprised yeah yeah so but see i'm so i'm so
bad at math and i forget that other beautiful women are not also so bad at math i was in mostly
advanced math classes that's shocking and writing classes i can barely do long division you're like
pemdas is what that i knew but y equals mx plus b shut the fuck up right now you're like actually
i'm walking i'm done i'm out of here i would cry every test i took i had i truly had math tutors
after my mom every single year of school i'm talking about starting in the fourth grade i had
math tutors well i mean and i got i got them all to help me i got them all to love me like i had
this one tutor girl we would not we would we be cutting up we would not even be doing math i'm like
let's how about we just do some gossiping inside like truly my she got in trouble with my mom and
she was like a plus for you my mom was like so hunter's grades are not improving so what are
you doing oh my gosh yeah but i also went to a really like pretty preppy private like i went to
a pretty difficult school to get into and it was like a heart yeah marlboro school shout the fuck
out uh private school elite i was always told like oh that's gonna matter for you later i was
like fuck this school but almost every like big interview i've had and marlboro
came up i'm like oh shit well like and that is one data point that supports my thesis
everyone who is from la is an epa baby well you got to get into marlboro first
not a lot of bitches and a lot of famous children don't start with this and i'll name them no
gm me and i'll name no remember we got in trouble when someone when someone was like that's actually
really mean of you to say oh whatever you see me almost feel bad and decide not to nope no
my parents money isn't long okay and they just got here we knew no but um yeah what was i talking
about i don't know you were good at math you never got in trouble you never got grounded oh yeah yeah
like i would get in trouble for like my mom would eventually find out that i threw a party and be
like girl stop anyway so she could not she was just like i have a bigger fish to fry and my
brother honestly was like he oof in sorry to air lewis out but i'll love i have to legally though
at us at a grade that is too young to mention during recess so that tells you where we are
got in trouble because he was uh entertaining some explicit acts with another student no no
it wasn't another student it was a student who went to school nearby he snuck into the back
my pretty liberal middle school well that tells you how old we are and sneaking in the girl from
down the school down the street they're hooking up not like sex or anything but hooking up
they get caught and that night my brother i think he had like a play date or a sleepover whatever my
parents had to come pick him up they said sure lewis you go ahead on that little sleepover you
go ahead yeah we'll talk about this at home so lewis thinks he's in the clear like it wasn't
that bad my parents oh they bodied this shit when i tell you they linked and built right before the
divorce uh they were a pair for a minute they went through his closet went through his room
made him a prisoner they did you not they put his mattress like on the floor left him two outfits
two outfits one pair of shoes literally
cleared his room out they cleared the entire room out and like literally turned his room into a
prison cell i'm not joking gave him two outfits he comes home scream crying is that epic i'm sorry
they bodied that they
ate that that is like a jamie lee curtis and freaky friday level of punishment when they took
away lindsey lohan's door oh lord oh i got my door taken for sure i slam that shit sometimes yeah
oh my god but then you know what i did when they took my door off i added beaded curtains
i'm so myself like that is so crazy okay actually what did you do i truly i hope my mother is
listening because she acted like i was the worst teenager in history and what did i do except for
wake up at five o'clock in the morning and watch katherine hepper movies before school
not do my spanish homework i had i came up with like one hickey and she was like oh who do you
think you are no yeah it was bad for me um she said you think you're one of your little white
friends pull that on you yeah but actually and i did think i was one of my little white friends
sometimes cussing and shit yeah that's crazy no i didn't start underage drinking until i was
i think like a sophomore in high school yeah good girl
um but were people drinking earlier though and you were like i'm abstaining not really
because people for me were drinking early middle school was like too early but i like
seven yeah seven fish oh what was when yeah and then eighth grade i finally was like i i'm one
thing about me peer pressure got my ass i'm so i love group think i'm like okay sure we're all
doing it like gracie abrams no loki if hunter jumped off a bridge i'm like fuck it me too
like i would just go whatever like let's figure it out on the way down i don't know
oh my god that's crazy um no i think what else was i doing my high school friends they were all
very preppy very like lily pulitzer yeah very tori birch um i remember one girl actually
the best party in high school was when this girl like her parents were like about to move out of
their house and they had like already moved in the new house but the old house hadn't closed yet
oh cool yeah so it was like basically completely empty cool and she we had parties like subsequent
weekends oh my god it was so fun that's amazing she was hosting coachella weekend one weekend two
oh my god and then one of the neighbors wrote a letter to her parents at the new house and they
were like you'll never believe what she was up to uh i'm like wow truly swiper no swiping wait
when you're a parent or well if you want to be a parent if whatever even just in general when
you're older do you think you're gonna be a snitch like if there was a party going on like
would you would you snitch would you tell your parents no it depends i honestly you would be
like going on a walk with another you're like you didn't hear from me no but i would want i would be
like i think how i was as an ra like if something goes wrong i don't want someone to feel like too
bad or too ashamed to like come and like call an adult yeah that's true um did you drive oh yeah
you drove but not till later though i didn't get my license until maybe sophomore or junior year
how do you know but i've gone through my grade i was also like passenger princess boots af
but i don't know i mean most of i had this friend named ryan who had a minivan
if she's somehow listening to this oh god and so she would just throw all of us in the back
it was like it was like baby's kids it was crazy up in there but we were just peers it was insane
that is so we was just traveling around it was driving your friends around in a minivan is
actually hilarious like always too many people the seats always like flap and we're just rolling
around lord have mercy blankets ever it was just a mess did you wait so you had uniforms
yeah what was your uniform they're kind of they were like loose uh like a polo and everything in
la is loose oh my god was there any rule that you had to follow lord yeah and then like a little
khaki or like gray skirt could you have a skirt limit like how short your skirt for sure rolled
the shit out of mine every time of course triple rolled it too and you know when you roll a skirt
and it like kind of fans out at the bottom it looks crazy that was like that was pretty nasty
the fights i would have with auntie because she always
been getting my uniforms about what was too short yeah i'm like there's no i had one skirt that was
shorter and i would wear that i wore the hell out of that skirt i was like but even when you get it
like because you had to get like tailored and stuff right yeah like even though i was my mom
wanted to be like okay we're making this like right above the knee i was like go ahead i got
scissors i got scissors i got time you saw my bangs in eighth grade i got creative so oh my god
my mama ever she was sick of me and you know she like didn't want a girl like my i mean you get what
you get you don't get upset listen but she was like you proved me right that she was like girls
are just she was like i thought i was generalizing by being like they're just so much and you know
all these emotions and i said here i come knocking yeah let's ruffle some feathers like
oh yeah yeah what about college wait let's go college yeah okay at least we knew each other
then well i will say college i'll tell you the first moment i knew i made a mistake when my mom
and i having the biggest fight of our entire relationship pulled up to on boylston the little
building yeah and i saw someone in a tutu and some glitter and all of this stuff open the car
door and say welcome to emerson i said keep driving don't leave me here mom florida
don't care if there's someone in the way that tutu motherfucker what i need to do is get out of
here immediately i was like oh my god i made a terrible mistake the orientation leaders at
emerson college were it was daunting it was it was outrageous it was too much it was way too
you know what it was like it was giving lotus flower it was really giving lotus it was the
first time i started to be like these blue haired liberals and be like whoa wait sorry oh my god
sorry no like i i can i'm progressive but when it comes to glitter
i don't think so that gets everywhere well it's actually really bad for the environment so it's
quite progressive of you to be anti-glitter fun fact exactly i feel like emerson party i'm trying
to think of like what well i feel like summers i had my fake id taken what by who second day
my second day in boston oh damn by the by the liquor store it's still there on coffley square
i actually went back i made a pilgrimage back wait liquor store is like to me like ambitious
like i only really use my face okay no you know
it's pretty official yeah rachel of course she's like oh they're not gonna know
you should invoice her for that those were they weren't they was 50 yeah yeah which at the time
wasn't deep that was all the money i had like so i'm emptying my bank account good um yeah i'm like

they know we sent you do you ever just spend years doing something to your hair just because
other people said it was the right way i would add anything to my cart if it said repairing or
hydrating but all those brands were not for hair like mine it didn't help my breakage and it did
not help me grow my hair out i was just following this one size fits all advice and it was not
working for me at all i feel that it's like that awkward phase where you're trying to be here not
for me i was stuck in a cycle of following bad advice and buying bad products it wasn't until
i found bask and lather that i finally found what my hair actually needed and everything clicked
exactly that's why we love bask and lather they are a black founded black owned business started
when their ceo shana's sister was told by dermatologists that her hair might never grow
back so shana and her mom got into the kitchen and they started making products that actually
work for our hair they made products that actually stimulate growth and retain length
the proof is in the pictures shana's sister's hair is now down her hips i've been using the
stimulating scalp and hair balm and it is a game changer it's 100 natural it uses no petroleum
so it nourishes and hydrates without clogging the pores you need to try their hydrating hair mist
next it has aloe vera and avocado oil in a bottle it is so good for reviving my hair after i've
done too much and i'm kind of putting off a wash day okay i'm adding that to cart but seriously

Okay, this, I think one of the craziest Barneys of college was with our friend Dean,
who was the funniest person. He like was drinking too much, pissed. He went into the closet,
got another pair of jeans, went shopping, got another pair of rag and bone jeans from this
person's closet and wore them out. And he was like, we got to go right now. We got to leave.
Come on, my three, let's go. Oh, it was hilarious. I do think the funniest part of it is like,
I think they were like true religion though. Oh, yeah.
It was like, no, you have taste. Like if you're going to steal,
let's get the good stuff. And that person posted the next day being like, who stole my true religion?
And Dean was like, classic. I'm like, oh my God.
He did not care at all. So bad.
Oh, but that was, wow. No, those were days.
That kind of drinking was just barbaric. Honestly, I was saying the most fucked up I ever got was
at an RA party. It was pre-art Barbara. Remember her? Remember Tequila Bar? Shout out to fucking
Tequila Bar, bro.
I hope she's well.
That's why I was like, the irony of the situation of RAs being the most fucked up people you all
you know, and also the people in charge of your young adults, like never trust them.
Oh my God. She like locked us in a room and was like, shots. No.
No.
I was like, that's an order.
No, no, no, no, no. I remember drinking Sky vodka in college and being like,
oh, this is, this is what money feels like.
No way, no how. I don't know if it was that same night you were talking about. It might
have been a different one because it was when Caleb, my friend from high school was visiting.
And there is a photo in my camera roll of, it's the craziest photo ever of Dean and Kayla,
lesbian gay guy, making out in the background on a street pole is Hunter in a tiny purple
skirt and a peacoat hanging off of it, tongue out the mouth, eyes crossed as hell. It's,
so that's, so that's a Renaissance painting.
Well, it was a BCBG bandage skirt. Those were the days.
Okay.
Yes.
Ho and for real. Yeah.
Well, yes.
She said,
girl, a little pant didn't work out for me. I'm doing this.
Disco pants.
Yeah, yeah, disco pants. It's the funniest photo. I just was like,
it is a taboo.
God, to be so free and young, you know?
I was like, what? With a bob, with a headband on.
Yes, always a headband, always a bob. Oh God.
And with a jacket from Madewell. Lord have mercy.
Anyway.
Yeah.
Well, I want to talk about high school movies.
Yeah.
Because I've actually been spiritually called to rewatch my so-called life.
Oh, I didn't watch that.
Really?
Yeah.
Oh my gosh. I loved it in high school.
Oh.
And like, you know, every alt girl I loved, Judd Apatow, Freaks and Geeks.
Didn't watch that either.
Really?
I know.
He could have killed him.
Favorite Judd Apatow tweet.
Judd Apatow, yeah, yeah.
After the slap. Yeah.
So stupid.
No, that and then high school stuff. I mean, Easy A, that was a big.
I love Easy A.
Easy A coming out when we were in high school hit like crack.
Yeah.
That was.
That was incredible.
There was no better time to be a high school girl.
I'm going to get a bucket, get a bucket full of sunshine.
There's a higher power who's going to deal with you and your foolishness.
Who? Tom Cruise?
Oscar now.
Was that like our intro to Emma Stone?
Yeah.
I think before that she'd done Superbad only.
Oh, right, right, right.
But that role was kind of like whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
John Tucker must die. That was a big one.
Two things I hate about you.
Which girl in, which girl in there are you? Do you think?
Was that Brittany Stowe?
Yeah, it was probably Brittany Stowe.
Oh.
Which girl were you?
Cynthia Bush.
Oh, right, because I'm gay.
No, that's not even what I meant.
She was like the sexy one.
She was the sexy like vegan one though. And that's not me.
But you're from LA.
She also has such a sexy raspy voice.
I know. When she teaches her how to kiss in the car.
I forgot about that scene.
I never forgot. And I never will.
Me as hell in high school. You want to learn how to kiss?
I was, girl, I was so many W-9s.
I was working shifts, teaching people how to kiss on sleepovers. Let me tell you that.
You're welcome. Pretty good kisser.
I would say, like, I'm going to go a little bit like before that.
Okay.
Probably like most formative high school watch is like Degrassi.
Oh, rich kids watch Degrassi.
Really?
People like TiVo watch Degrassi. Yeah, I didn't have TiVo.
Oh, I did have TiVo. I love that remote.
Actually, famous story about a TiVo remote.
One time, redacted, said, I have a big dick.
And I said, prove it.
And in middle school, he sent me a photo of his dick next to a TiVo remote for scale.
And you've lived so many lives.
And I said, I guess you're right.
He didn't lie. It's crazy.
I was like, whoa.
Showed it to my friend Lauren right after.
I said, you believe this?
So crazy.
Wait, did you, did you watch them?
Because the N, I think, was really formative for me in general.
Exactly. That was a TiVo.
That was a TiVo network.
What?
So, like, Instant Star?
South of Nowhere?
Girl, I was watching Next.
I was watching a lot of Law & Order SVU.
Okay.
It's not high school.
That was a high school show for me.
It was for you, actually.
A lot of SVU really is like, well, everyone else was watching Degrassi, Hunter.
No, no, not even Cigarette.
She's smoking a cigar.
Another one.
We got to get to the bottom of this case.
That is so you.
Oh, my God.
I was watching, yeah.
I was watching Lost and The Closer.
Oh, my Lord.
Johnson, shout out.
Everything, if it was on.
Like, UP, no, USA.
Yeah.
Monk, Psych, Burn Notice.
Friday Night Lights.
Was that more college?
No, that was high school for me.
Oh, okay.
Friday Night Lights was definitely other.
Oh, you loved it.
Who's your, Tim Riggins?
Of course.
What did Emma want to taste?
I mean, there was a couple of fine motherfuckers.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I like me some Tim Riggins.
And I like that Matt Saracen.
I didn't mind him.
You know who I hated?
His grandmother.
Oh, my God.
Enough.
R.I.P.
I'm, like, pushing her.
Let me knock her out.
Knock that cane out.
Oh, my God.
So annoying.
You know who I couldn't stand on Friday Night Lights?
Fucking Amy.
Amy and that mouth and that bad attitude.
You have a mother from heaven with a full head of hair.
And she's passing that on to you, by the way.
So, you better say you're welcome.
And a dad who really cares.
And guess what?
He gives you access to all these fine-ass men.
Oh, you better say thank you.
You better say your prayers at night, Amy.
And she never did.
And she never did.
Matt Saracen did not.
He should not have been tasked with her.
Ugh.
No.
And that one night when Riggins was helping her in,
trying to cover up that she was drunk.
And then Coach Taylor misunderstood.
And, ugh, that was so. And then later Coach Taylor apologized.
Oh, that was so sad.
Such a good show.
What is a scene in a high school movie or TV show
that is, like, burned in your brain?
Oh, my God.
Okay.
Two things.
This is from a high school movie.
And the other one is, like, something that I watched in high school
that was burned in my brain.
Yeah.
First, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Things I Hate About You
when he's going into. He goes into the sister's drawer,
the panty drawer or something.
And he was, like, black.
She has black underwear.
Black means you want to have sex.
I was, like. No, I hauled my ass to a Nordstrom rack and quickly. Like. Oh, my God.
I remember when I bought my first thong
and I was, like, couldn't tell my mom.
From where?
Victoria's Secret?
Of course.
Four for five.
Oh, it was a great deal.
And then. Okay.
And then I remember watching Sex and the City
on a football bus on a trip to Houston.
Yeah.
With Molly.
That was the first time I ever watched it.
And, um. Funky's Hasting Spunk.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, they don't call it a job for nothing.
Ugh!
Poetry.
Poetry.
That's a good one.
That's a good one.
Okay.
I want to hear from you.
What is favorite high school scene
that, like, typified high school for you
from a movie or TV show?
There's only one ethical answer.
And this goes out to all the young hoes out there.
Manny Santos and that blue. thong. walking down the hallway.
When I tell you,
that woke me. No.
So I sat up straight on my TV.
And then my mom got worried.
But I recently re-watched it.
And I thought. We all talk about that scene
as, like, the craziest thing.
This blue bedazzled thong.
I was actually Manny for Halloween
and I tore that outfit, by the way.
But the scene right after it,
after she gets in trouble
and they're like,
you can't wear. you can't have your underwear showing.
So she was like,
okay.
She saw me.
She comes back to school.
She comes back to school the next day.
No underwear.
No underwear.
No underwear.
I was like,
um,
I don't remember this part.
I was like,
this is crazy.
And I re-watched it like this.
Wait, okay.
So we do have to draw the line,
like, somewhere.
Oh my. See, that's why I wasn't watching
Degrassi, girl.
I was in Episcopal school.
We had to go to chapel.
What?
It was actually. Like, I was covering. I was. I was holding my purse close.
It was tough.
But, yeah.
I would've gone to Degrassi High.
I would've. Me and Manny,
we would've been,
fuck Emma.
Little prude.
Wait, I have a question.
Did your high school,
did you have, like,
outdoor lockers?
I feel like all the L.A. schools
had outdoor lockers.
That's so cool.
I guess it was kind of cool.
Okay, I take it back.
Oof.
Well. Okay, wait.
Let's. So let's ask the audience.
Give us high school superlatives now.
Ooh, that's a good one.
Yeah.
But, but. We'll delete the comments
that we don't agree with.
No, just kidding.
We wouldn't.
We wouldn't censor you.
But tell us.
Let us know what you think we are.
I would.
It's, like, still, like,
Hunter, president.
Look.
Legit.
Summer superlatives.
I wish I had some glasses to adjust here.
I'm going to start off strong.
BBL of the summer.
The aliens in Disclosure Day.
They walked like they got BBLs.
I believe you.
That would be made no sense, but did I have time in my life?
Yeah, I did.
I had so much fun watching it.
Really?
It made no. What do you mean they had to get Emily Blunt to go on local news
and announce that aliens had come to Earth, blah, blah, blah,
when they had an alien there the whole time, Coleman Domingo.
That didn't make any damn sense.
Coleman Domingo.
And you know what?
She was right to dump her boyfriend,
and Josh O'Connor should have dumped his girlfriend too.
Oh, wait, that's a great cast.
Maybe I should have watched it.
No.
Well, I'm recently into Emily Blunt.
After for the first time watching. That movie with Tom Cruise.
Oh, Oppenheimer?
No.
Oh, Edge of Tomorrow?
Yes.
Oh, I do not like that movie.
What the fuck?
I know.
Everyone likes it.
I don't like it, though.
You're not even little by then.
Damn.
That. Emily Blunt's arm in that movie.
Maybe it could be.
Circle back next week.
I'll let you know.
Okay.
What's up next?
I want to talk about Nick of the Summer.
Okay.
Jordan Woods.
I would motion Jordan Woods' bag.
No, the bag, I think, is not cute.
I do not like that bag.
No, I don't.
But I. But it's selling out, though, no?
Well, of course it is.
It's lucky.
I mean, and that's what. I love capitalism, actually.
At every stage.
It's just, like, fantastic.
Totally.
Nick of the Summer is not Spike Lee for you, huh?
Oh, it's like looking in a mirror.
Yeah.
Stupid.
Nick of the Summer.
What if it's, like, Eric Adams?
Wait, did you see him coming home?
Of course I did.
Of course I did.
On his birthday, there's a photo of him out at, what, 11?
And then coming back home in the same outfit at, like, maybe 8 a.m.?
I will give it to Eric Adams.
So, Thirst Trap of the Summer.
Oh, for sure.
The super saturated vegetables.
Him telling you, coming back days later to say,
and actually, this is a health PSA.
You know what I'm coming to?
What?
Eric Adams lives his life like a gay man.
He is at the afters of the afters of the afters.
Ain't never home.
Low-key lies a lot.
Not even low-key.
Yeah, yeah.
And is, like, posting nudes for no reason.
That's gay man material.
First off, always Istanbul.
Yeah.
What. Wow.
That really. I was like, why do I low-key fuck with him now that he's out of office?
You gag yourself.
No, I do.
He. Hilarious.
Okay, Thirst Trap of the Summer.
That's very funny.
I would actually probably say it's probably something JLo has posted.
No, you know what that. It's not a thirst trap to anyone who isn't a lesbian,
but that one photo of her with her knees up,
like, as if she's at the gyno.
You know that one photo?
No, I haven't seen that.
Oh, my God.
Her knees are open and up,
and her titties are up and stuck,
and it's, like, some mirror selfie.
She took while she was getting her makeup done.
So, you don't know 52 what to do, but you know that.
I'm gay.
I'm not focused.
I'm gay.
It's a very different thing, girl.
Worst hair of the summer.
Amanda Batula's bun.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And that's universal.
That's a consensus.
That's literally how Sue sees it.
We've reached quorum.
Yeah.
I tried it on, though, when I went to the premiere at Softbar, by the way.
I went to Softbar, and I tried on the bun.
It was. I bodied her.
I looked kind of good in it.
I was like, wait, this is to you.
Hold on.
And you know who also bodied her?
Best hair of the summer.
Oh, yes.
Yes.
How do you say his name?
I don't know, girl.
That's your man.
I don't know.
Erling Haaland.
Norway.
Norway soccer player.
I like that big bitch.
Oh, my God.
I like him so much.
He cut his hair off, though.
I saw that.
It's not good.
It's not good.
I mean, he was going to have some traction issues.
He was going to get bald.
Bald traction or whatever.
That's just called being alive.
To be a white man in Norway.
Friendship of the summer.
I have an answer for this one.
I'm going to be honest.
I didn't come prepared for this segment.
Whatever.
But type A moon.
Friendship of the summer is Armie Hammer's made-up Jamaican friend.
Because why did Armie Hammer. He was profiled by one of the trades, and he said,
I was complaining to a Jamaican man about why aren't my Hollywood friends. supporting me.
And the Jamaican man, like, read him a riddle and said,
this is how you have empathy.
I'm like, you just made that up.
You just made that man up.
And the man walks off into the daylight.
Okay, that's crazy.
That man does not exist.
Also, like, I'm sorry.
All my Jamaican friends, first of all, they know that I stick around.
Ain't nobody just doing a little drive-by advice.
No, no, no.
They up in your business.
Have you met a Jamaican man?
That man is attached to you from now on.
What?
Oh, my God.
That's a lot.
That's how I knew.
Okay.
Let's close out with. Okay.
Best breakup of the summer.
I love when she does that because you can tell she can't smoke.
Oh, my God.
It's so funny.
Do a vape now.
Yeah, yeah.
You hit that?
That was pretty good, Hunter.
Oh, that was pretty good.
I'm a singer, too.
I'm young at heart.
It's a shoulder that goes. That was some Ben Affleck shit.
That was great.
All right, keep going.
Breakup of the summer.
You know. You already know what it is.
Club Chalamet.
Club Chalamet.
Chalamet.
Chalamet.
Come on.
You're not doing it like her.
You're not touching her.
Oh, fuck.
That's a good one.
She said goodbye to all that.
Oof.
I loved it.
Oh, my God.
It's. Yeah.
She turned her. She turned her back on him when he needed it most.
Actually, no.
He's doing fine.
He has a Nick Summer.
He's a Nick of the summer to me.
Breakup of the summer for you.
Okay.
I was going to say. This is sounding a little bit. A little bit more presumptuous, but possibly cat's eye.
Oof.
We are losing our girls by the numbers.
They're dropping like flies.
There's about three left.
Two and a half, maybe.
I don't know.
And you're losing all the. Who's left?
Well, first, Manon left.
Uh-huh.
And I'm with her.
And then Sophia took a break.
Lara, I love.
She's like the baddie who they were like, you wear too much makeup in the documentary.
And she was like, so?
Didn't change a thing.
Obsessed with her.
So I think they're falling out.
And while they're falling out, a phoenix is rising.
And her name is Adela.
And she. Did you watch the documentary?
Uh-uh.
I think even if you don't care about cat's eye, I think you would enjoy the documentary.
It's pretty well done.
Yeah.
But the Popstar Academy documentary, there's a girl named Adela who's like clearly a star.
She's a great dancer, vocalist.
Oh, so she didn't make it into cat's eye.
No.
And now she's doing her own thing.
And she's coming up.
And she's streaming.
And gay guys everywhere are united.
I mean, sometimes that doesn't mean a thing.
You could still be. You could still be in Key Asylum and there's about a thousand gay guys behind you.
But Adela might be coming for their crown.
Maybe she's the reason that they're like all crumbling.
Who knows?
Oof.
We'll see.
Inside job.
Oh, I like that.
I like that.
The minute there's a little bit of mess and intrigue, Hunter's like, I might stream a
little cat's eye and see what happens.
And I will.
Let me press play.
That was me listening to Phoebe Bridgers for no reason other than the Gracie Abrams stuff.
She got me with that one.
That made me laugh so hard listening to that back.
Hunter literally turned 62 in a mere moment where she was like, I was like, what the hell
am I listening to?
Like, it was so. Anyway, so that's my possible breakup.
We'll see.
They pulled out of Daisy Chain Fest.
Who knows what's next?
That really surprised me.
Oof.
I know.
Their last shot at feminism.
Is that right?
No, I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
I love cat's eye.
Yes.
Paws up or whatever they. Pinkies up.
Pinkies up.

FAQs
Superlatives varied widely by school size and culture. In small schools, they were often niche and humorous, like 'most likely to see the future' or 'most likely to be president.' In larger schools, superlatives were more traditional, like 'most popular' or 'best dancer.' Some schools, like the speaker's Episcopal school, didn't have superlatives at all.
Honor councils were common in schools that valued justice and drama, especially in smaller or progressive schools. Members, often seen as the biggest gossipers, would decide on punishments for students. Some schools, like one mentioned, even had a student council with leadership roles, though members often faced disciplinary issues for breaking rules.
Many students spent summers watching movies, especially at places like Blockbuster, where they would rent multiple films and have fun. Others participated in outdoor activities, such as biking, or stayed home, engaging in hobbies like dancing or reading, with some even using the time to develop their passions or start new projects.
Shows like *Freaks and Geeks*, *Easy A*, *Friday Night Lights*, and *Degrassi* were especially formative. The scene in *Things I Hate About You* where Manny Santos wears a blue thong became a memorable moment, symbolizing teenage rebellion and humor that many students still remember.
Many students struggled with math and felt anxious during tests. Some sought help through tutors, while others used creative strategies like gossiping or emotional support during stressful times. Despite these struggles, many found success through perseverance, especially in schools with supportive environments.
Popular extracurriculars included sports like football, basketball, and track, as well as dance and film clubs. Others took on leadership roles, such as being a football manager or hosting film club takeovers, showing a mix of athletic, creative, and social involvement.
