Aubrey’s Wedding Recap!!! Vic's BFF Shares All Her Favorite Moments & Advice for Brides
53m 38s
The podcast episode of RealPod centers on the personal journey of Victoria and Wood through their wedding day, emphasizing authenticity, emotional presence, and deep connection over traditional expectations. Victoria shares candid reflections on changing her name, navigating the stress of a wedding, and finding peace in simplicity—such as avoiding phone use during key moments to stay fully present. The couple implemented thoughtful, intimate details like personalized table notes, custom menus, and a guest-first-dance-song playlist, enhancing the emotional warmth of the celebration. A key theme is their decision to exclude their father from a formal seat to prevent emotional discomfort, showing sensitivity to family dynamics. The episode also addresses a significant challenge: Max’s football commitments threatened his ability to officiate the wedding. Through open, empathetic communication, the couple managed the situation with grace, preserving their friendship and trust. They ultimately resolved the issue by recommitting to the wedding date, demonstrating how love and flexibility can overcome obstacles. The narrative underscores how weddings, while joyful, can strain relationships if not approached with understanding and real emotional awareness. The episode concludes with a powerful message: meaningful connections endure not despite difficulties, but because of shared honesty, patience, and mutual care.

It's your host, Victoria Garrick Brown, and this is the podcast where we hold nothing back. Oh, so we're getting deep, huh? I really cried for 12 days straight. Why do I want to be perfect? There's nothing in my life that is perfect. Every week, I'll bring you honest, unfiltered, and eye-opening conversations to help uncover the real in all of us. I crave the type of content that you're talking about. I actually felt insecure. Oh my god, am I going to cry? Let me just unload everything. New episodes every Wednesday. Leave those filters at the door, because it's time to get real. I'm so excited. I have been trying not to talk to you all day, because we just had to save everything for the pod. We had to save everything. We couldn't just be happy by ourselves. We had to give the people what they wanted. And they want you. They want the new Mrs. Aubrey wood. Did you change your name? That's one of the questions I had. So as you guys know, I am very impulsive and very type B. And I was like, oh, I'll just change my name. And I was going to go Aubrey wood as my name. And then Aubrey Gavelle wood is my handle. I'm not letting me change my handle. So now I'm just half and half right now. And that's what it is. Okay, so we're rocking with it. You're going to be half and half. What are you doing legally? I'm going to be Aubrey Gavelle wood. Cute. Oh my god, are you getting rid of Anna? I'm getting rid of Anna. I just feel like having the four is just one too many, you know? I feel you on that. And how did you come into this decision? Because I think this is a big one for a lot of people who get married. You know what's so funny is my little brothers were like devastated that I wasn't keeping my last name. And I always said when I was a single strong independent, you know, I was like, I'm keeping my last name. But then when you fall in love and you think about having kids and starting your own family, it's like, you all just want to be under the same little umbrella, you know? It's such a tough thing. Because you honestly just have to do what makes you feel best. I was also like thinking about how different it would be if I was the last to carry my last name. I think I might feel differently. But I have two little brothers who are going to keep it going, you know? Yeah, definitely, definitely. Gosh, it's tough. I remember thinking I'm never going to change it and then changing it and then feeling like, why did I do that? And then I found my happy medium, which is I like to be publicly facing Victoria Garek Brown. That's how I feel the most me, like when I hear my name. But legally, there is no Garek in my legal name. Oh, I didn't even realize that you kept laying in not Garek. Yeah, I kept laying after my mom and I was like, Victoria laying Garek. Like I just, I totally get that after your mom though. At the end of the day, like I think do what you need to do, at anybody who judges you or says it should be this, whenever I see something on social media that's like, this is the reason I'm not changing my name right. This is the reason I am. I just swipe because I'm like, I don't care. I do what I wanted to do. You can literally make up a new last name with your partner if you want to. I feel like you guys would be the couple to do that. But literally, so you got back from your honeymoon. How was that? Was it so magical? My honeymoon was perhaps the best two weeks of my entire life. If you are debating going on a safari for your honeymoon, I would recommend it 10 times over. I can't believe it was even a question of us doing anything else. It was so unreal. And we're both such animal people that like, we could have been entertained for three weeks just sitting in the back of that car, looking at all the animals. You went from talking every single day, leading up to the wedding on the phone, like non-stop to like both just being like, see you want to see you. I'm going to see you later. I mean, it was so nice to drop off the grid for two weeks and just have no one contact you because they just know better. Like I never had that in my life. Like that was the best part of the honeymoon. Just, you just go at my A, the piece, the piece where you guys on social media trying, like consuming things or are you like, let's detach? No, and it wasn't even like a thought. We were so busy. I think what it helped me realize was like, what a mental fuck that is for me to like be scrolling all the time, especially with like what we do. And I'm just putting my phone. Now I'm like, I have such a new appreciation for just like leaving it at the hotel, leaving in your room, going to cook dinner without it. It's so nice. Well, I'm so glad you guys had the most magical honeymoon. We are here to of course talk about the wedding, the wedding that I don't want to say broke the internet. It was the internet. It was the internet for a weekend. That was all, if you were on the right side of anything, that's what you were seeing. Well, I think my 500 posts probably helped with that, but yeah, it was so much fun. Honestly, let's just quickly start there because we don't spend too much time on it. But I did get a lot of questions about it. Is the amount of content that was produced around the wedding, which was even surprising to me as someone who we had talked about it ahead of time. And you were like, I'm going to do a few things. I really want to do a lot. And I would like to go on record and tell everyone, Aubrey and Wood were not on their phone. I didn't have my phone the entire weekend. It was a perfect day. They hired a team of people who took videos, edited them, posted them, wrote the captions, did everything. They lived their life and were completely present. And then it was put online, which tell us about that choice. Like obviously this is your job. It's our job where a couple's account, I feel like I have no problem sharing my life online. The problem that I do have and I feel like this often is like the straddle between living your life and feeling like you need to post content, which thank God, but we didn't feel that at all. Like if anything, I felt more off the grid than I ever have because someone else had my phone. I didn't even have the choice to check it, which was so nice to just get my phone back on Sunday and be like, oh wow, we posted 45 videos, perfect. - And like emphasis on couple's account. Like everyone follows you guys because they love your love and your relationship. Your wedding is the mecca super bowl of that type of content. - I love to share a red detail. I'm like, sure, as long as I don't have to be the one like taking myself out of the moment to do it. And like, I have no problem with it. I did get some messages where it was like, this is excessive. And I'm like totally, but then some people are like, this is not enough to be supposed to work. So it's like, you can't win. So just like do whatever you want, you know? - Right, right. And I loved all the videos. And it was so great, like literally that next morning being able to look at everything and see things that we didn't even get to experience because everything's moving so fast. So that's the little insight on Aubrey and Woods kind of content with the wedding. And I will say ahead of time, Aubrey did me with this team, shared a little bit about what she wanted. You know, you had like that meeting and then you're like, okay, it's up to you. When those girls were amazing, it was like, stand here, do this. And it did not feel invading at all. - I felt so present all day. - I was with you all day. And there were TikToks of you. I was like, when was this filmed? - Yeah, no, it was like they'd pull me for two seconds and be like, so sorry, we need this clip. It would be done in two seconds. And then I would just go on about my day. And honestly, for me, it was so nice because when we were doing our hair and makeup, like, Vic, you know, I was like sprinting around because I just couldn't sit still with my thoughts. So it was like nice for me to have something to do. And then after the ceremony, there was nothing that included me. I was just living my life, you know? - Right, right, right. Oh my gosh. Now I'm just back there mentally, it was so fun. Okay, so looking back, what is your favorite memory from your wedding day? - You know what's so funny is I remember you being like, my ceremony was the favorite part of your wedding. And I was like, oh, I think it'll be dancing. I think it'll be, but easily the ceremony was the best part. And Mr. Max Brown made that the best ceremony ever. It was like so much, it was so fun. It was like light, but also serious. I could rewatch that video 400 times and never get tired of it. - I'm so glad that you have a full video of the ceremony. I want to watch it. - Oh no, don't worry. I have bits and pieces that my content girls took. - Oh yeah. - So I've like watched the 30 second videos all back to back trying to piece together the ceremony. - It was so special. It was so beautiful when you came through those double doors in your dress. You had such an iconic entrance for a bride who literally didn't care about that or think about that really at all. You guys picture this. So all the bridesmaids came from like around this barn. So we kind of have like an ass loop and then we walked down the aisle. Aubrey was in that barn. Okay, the one that we walked around, she was in the center of it, whether these double doors. So first what they do is they are these glass double doors. But before you can see through those double doors, there's like this curtain that was down like this blind. So the blind goes up and you see through the glass like a muffled fuzzy like breathtaking silhouette of Aubrey in her dress. And then the double doors open and there she is. It was literally the most angelic thing ever. - Vic is making this sounds so much more magical than my experience. The curtain goes up. I didn't know what was going on either. My planner was just like, this is how we're doing this. I was like, okay, great. I thought everyone else came through the barn. The curtain goes up and I literally am standing there with my brother and I go, holy fuck. - You did not say that. - It's like everyone I've ever known and loved is there. I hadn't seen the flowers. I hadn't seen wood. And it went up and it was like the most overwhelming amazing feeling ever. - Didn't you say you had a little bit of a panic right before they moved you into that room? What was that?
situation. Tell us. Oh, yeah, I was just by myself with my makeup team, which no one tells you on your wedding day, how much time you spend with your makeup team. They are with you every second. Pick someone you like. It's true that the whole getting ready thing is like hours long and they're all up in your face. And then it was just, I was just sitting there by myself with my hair and makeup ladies. And I was like, I'm kind of freaking out guys. They're like, that's totally normal. That happens here. Stand up and they had me do like a little jitter dance. I know. Oh, yeah, that was cute. That was something about you on your wedding day. You liked being around everybody because the silence, I think, brought up a lot of feelings. Yeah. I was just like, I have to read my vows out loud. That was what kept going through my head. You did such a great job. Okay, so the vows, how did you feel delivering yours? And then what did you think of woods? Obviously, I mean, anyone who has followed me for long enough knows I'm very dyslexic and I can't read out loud. And I remember clocking halfway through and I was like, I'm crushing this. I was like, I'm reading all these words well. I don't know. You kind of blackout giving yours. I feel like, because I've read them so many times. But hearing woods, I'll never get that feeling back. That was just the best ever. I love that. And then something I want to share with everyone too, because you won't say it about yourself. But speaking of you being like, I didn't know what was going on. My wedding plan was Aubrey was the most chill bride. I've ever witnessed in my life so chill, so happy. Like, didn't stress about anything. Didn't need a certain picture. Didn't need a certain anything. Like, at one point, they were taking pictures of like the bridal party and the photographer goes, just so you know, this is cutting into your portraits. And you're like, what? Can someone pay me champagne? Like, you didn't care. Literally. I was like, I don't care. I'm like, this is the same verse. She did what was happening was so carefree was so chill. Literally so happy. Like, the way you saw her in those pictures and videos was genuinely how she was feeling. Everyone who was there would say it. So just need to put that on record. And that's how you are as a person. And I'm so glad that you were able to be your most authentic self on what is a stressful and exciting day. I think the only stress I felt was when the band ended at 11 and we had another two hours. And I was like, oh my god, like, I'm even ready to go home. I think my worst nightmare is like having people appease me. Like, having people do something they don't want to do just like keep me entertained. So I was just like, all right, I have to lean into this. Yeah. It's okay. It's my very big special day. Everyone loves me. And like, they'll stay. Yeah. Yeah. It's just interesting. We're just at that age where like people get tired a little bit earlier. Louis. But I feel like most weddings I go to, the bridal party is always there until they close it down. I think if you're like a good bridal party member, you have fun until you're told the fun has to stop. Yeah. I think I think a lot of our wedding was overserved, which also contributed to everyone kind of dipping out at like midnight. But the entire bridal party stayed. And for that, I will be forever grateful. But yeah, if you're planning wedding, just cut it at midnight. You don't need the extra hour. The people wanting more. Two questions quickly. How were you so chill and any advice for brides to be chill like that? And then I want to talk about your bridal party. Okay. Any advice for being chill on the day of I feel like you felt like this too. At that point, there is nothing you can do to change anything. So just enjoy your day. Like it is going to be what it is. And like, I've been to weddings where it starts raining or the worst thing, quote, unquote, imaginable can happen. And like it adds to it. It makes it so much more fun. The pictures turn out gorgeous. Like who cares? Like everyone you love is there. There's no reason to stress about anything, especially when it's out of your control. On that note, did anything go wrong? And how did you handle it? Honestly, no. I haven't done like a full post mortem with my planner. But she said it was just windy. And like, yeah, I think my veil was like flying around. And like the place cards couldn't be set. And like, they had to wait to put out the, but like, no, like nothing anyone would notice. I don't think the wind was actually iconic because at the very end, when Max was like, by the power vested in me, I swear to you, Aubrey's veil just ejected into the air to the point where we're pulled back my head. I used mixed veil. Like that thing was in there and it's big. Like pulled back my head. I was actually stressed about the veil wind because my literal one like shining duty is to arrange the veil while you're up there. So it looks picture perfect. And I do it once. And then the wind blows it. And then I do it again. And then I'm like, you know what? It's not going to sit because it's not going to. But wait, you know what I saw on TikTok for anyone getting married soon? You can get veil weights. They're like little tiny magnets that you can put at the end of your veil. So it holds them down. So you're getting married somewhere where it's windy. Look into those on Amazon. Interesting. Good to know. I just put my shoe on it. You really? Yeah. One point. I was just like, I'm just going to clip. I'm going to clip this bitch. I'm dead. And then when Max is up there with his official thing, all the pages are turning. And I was like, Max, just put a thumb on it. No, I was so stressed. You guys. So Max had a binder with his like script. And then the wind would blow and he would lose it by six pages. And each time you fixed it, I was like, why wouldn't you just put your thumb in between the pages to just hold the place? But the way the way he just kept rolling like he knew it so well, he just kept rolling with it while I was like watching him train refine his place. I was like, this guy's a professional. Oh, he did. It was literally all I heard the three days leading up to it. This episode of RealPod is brought to you by Quince. I said I want to talk about your bridal party because I got a lot of questions about this. If you could just really quickly tell us how you know each bride's made and then how you decided on your bridesmaids. This will be really quick. I know all my bridesmaids from high school and then my lovely sister-in-law Kelly. So super easy high school middle school and lower school I should say. Yeah. But yeah, I felt like I made my best friends very early on in life and I'm so lucky for that and it was always pretty clear like who my best friends were in life and I feel so lucky for for that. So it was never a question. I feel really
lucky to not have been in the position that I know a lot of people end up in, where like they have to include people that they might not necessarily feel close to. And I will say I do think that it is worth kind of extending the circle. Like if you're on the fence about someone, I think it only makes you closer to include them in that. Even if it doesn't feel like that from like the moment you're picking them as a bridesmaid, like I think as the year goes on, like there's a lot of stuff like bridal shower, that's just a red wedding, engagement parties, like where it's just like more opportunities to be close to them. And I think like you end up, I don't know, enriching your friendship from it. I like that. So you're saying if you are like, oh, I really like this person to just go for it. But yeah, it's different than the people you're like, I feel like I have to have them. But I know I don't want to. Yes. I think like if they're a positive attribute to your wife, like I'm not saying like invite someone who's like been really mean and you know it's gonna be like a horrible energy. But like if you're on the fence about someone, like and they're a good person, just I would include them. Also, this is making me think about a feeling I had when I was just sitting in the bridal suite with like all of your best girls and feeling like they're such a good reflection of you. And the people you have around you, because like everyone in the bridal party also was like so warm, bubbly, chill, like very low key, like the most low key Natalie and I are the we're the most high key for sure. But every other girl was like just vibing. And who else is just vibing? And that's why I love them all. Oh, I love them too. So it's so fun when one of your best friends goes through their bridal era and you get to just spend so much time with their whole group, you know, it's special. That's why I felt about yours too. Like it's not only and I really became super super close was like we were always good friends in high school, but planning your stuff like we became closer. I know I love that. It was a part of mine and I'm a part of hers. Which is great. Like it's so special when your best friends become best friends. I don't know why there are certain people out there who are like don't want that. That brings me joy that two of my best friends would go hang out without me like you obviously made a video where wood was going to predict your dress and everyone was like wait, he kind of nailed it. He kind of nailed it. And I didn't even ask him before filming that, but I just like knew he would know. Like he didn't see anything or anything, but yeah. So did he love it? Well, what was his reaction? He loved it. You can see us during our ceremony, like chitchatting up there and he's just telling me how much he loves the dress. He said it was the one he would have picked for me if it was his responsibility. That's so cute. And he does pick out your outfits. And he does. Were there any little details that were unique to you and wood? I know the answer is yes, but this was a question people want to know who are planning their wedding. And I think you guys did a great job of making it feel very custom. Thank you. I feel like yes, we had a ton of little details like on everyone's table numbers. We wrote each of our guests to know which I've seen a lot of people do now. And it sounds like a harder task than it is. Like if you're on the fence about it, do it. It takes like, I don't know, an hour. And it makes everyone feel so special and seen and important for being there. So couldn't recommend that more. They were really short. Like you don't have to overwhelm yourself. I think they were three sentences, but they were so good. Like one of my favorite memories is the one that you wrote to my brother and his wife. It's just so cute. So you know, that's the thing. If I could go back, I love that you guys did that and I would have done it. Yeah. I think it's just like a nice way to like thank everyone for being there and like tell people you really want them there. And they put it on the back of your name thing. So when you went to grab your name and see where you were sitting, the back of that had the three sentences. Yes. We did custom menus where we picked 10 of our favorite places because each of our round tables had 10 seats at it. So we did, you know, our apartment. We did our first date spot. We did woods apartment where we met. And we had our, the person who designed the menus sketch those out. And then we wrote a little blur of like why it was important to us. And then on the back was everyone's menus. Because I feel like the menus like, you know, you spend a lot of money on them regardless. And like no one's looking at the menu. So I'm like, let's make people look at them. Let's see. What else did we do during dinner, which I don't even think anyone noticed. But on our RSVPs, we asked everyone to put their first dance songs. So during dinner, we made a playlist of everyone's first dance songs. So when people heard, you know, lover, they'd be like, oh, and be able to have that moment with their partner. Oh, I thought it was actually so cute. Of course, there's so much going on. I didn't even know you guys did that. But I love that idea because when anyone does hear their first dance song, they feel like, oh, our wedding. Now we're at this wedding. Yeah, we didn't even announce it. But you always hear it in the background. And then Aubrey and Woods, like childhood names where Aubrey was boo and wood was binky. So they had their cocktails. They had the boo and the binky, which was really cute. We also had the signature as president teeny bee, the big old nipper. It was in homage to our first TikTok. I love that. Speaking of these things, I wanted to talk about the ways we brought your dad into the ceremony. So Max obviously had a special moment where he, you know, talked about your dad, which he ran past you because those things are so emotional. You know, you want to make sure it's like what you want. And I know you told me you wanted your dad to be like a part of the day, but for it not to feel sad. Could you talk about that for people out there who have herons or a loved one who's not going to be at their wedding? Totally. And I think from all the messages I go, I feel like I even forget how common it is. But my mom, I think I talked about this on one of the real pods, but my mom really wanted to do a first dance with the two of us. And I was just like, I don't want to do that. Like that's such a clear everyone looking at us being like, all her dad's not here. So she's doing it with her mom. And then everyone goes in with that energy at the dance floor. It didn't feel authentic to me. And I think it is really, really special. Like I think there is a moment for that. If that's your vibe, it's just not mine. Like I just, like I said earlier, like all I do is worry about everyone else having fun. And I didn't want it. I didn't want to do anything that might impact that. But Max talked about it. I talked about it with my vows. Would talk about it in his vows. My mom talked about it in her speech. My brothers talked about it in their speech. So like I knew he was going to be very present. But I didn't feel like leaving an empty chair at the front of the ceremony that like I would look out and see was what I needed that day. I love the way you went about everything. I think it was intentional and beautiful and thoughtful. Thanks. Speaking of speeches, you know, what did we think of speeches? Vic brought down the mother fucking house for her speech. It was so good. I keep rewatching it. It was so good as we expected. But I think that's even harder for you. Oh my god. No one expected a thing. But like you, like your public speaker and Vic not only met but raised the bar. It was so good. That's so sweet. It was so special to get to do that. People did ask, I'm not just like, lying about this. But people were like, Oh, will you post it? And I was like, I will when Aubrey's team sends us the video, the professional video, we'll put it up. Yeah, you know, it takes so long to get everything back. I haven't even posted anything since one because I posted 500 posts. But two, because you know, I'm not going to see that stuff for another two months, probably. And for any made of honors, speaking of wedding, like an Aubrey, you know, you did this at mine. It is nerve-wracking. But how I approached it was like, I wrote it. I obviously worked really hard on it. And then when I printed it, and I put it in my bag for the weekend, I was like, that's it. I'm not thinking about this until it's time to do it because the wedding weekend is about you. And I don't want to be stressed about my speech or I remember actually the makeup artist said something to me the morning of your wedding, like I was telling her some story about our childhood. And she was like, oh my God, did you put that in your speech? And I was like, no. And she was like, you should. And I was like, oh my God, should I? And then I started freaking out. And I was like, no, I'm not fucking touching it. I've heard stories of people who are like, yeah, the made of honors working on the speech in the bridal suite. And then she's hold rehearsing with another bridesmaid. It's like, it's not that deep. Like, write your speech, rehearse it to the people before the wedding weekend, pack it, print it. And then I really tried to do it that way. And then when people asked me how I felt about it, I would just be like, I feel great. I had a quick little thing because I think you have to have confidence. You believe yourself. You're so good at like being aware of what's about you and what's not. Because I think even when people were coming up to me at your wedding, I was like, I'm freaking the fuck out. No, but that's fine. I overdo it a little bit because an insecurity or a fear of mine would be someone saying, I'm making it about me. So I like to go so far in the other direction. So that's also a problem I have. For armchairs, I call it just staying right now. Yeah, literally. So yeah, you guys, we will post that most speech when we get the video. I did to just as excited to see that as I am the ceremony. Are you going to post your vows online? That's so funny. You ask, I've been debating it. The half of me is like, they were so great that I don't see any reason why I showed in. And then the other half of me is like, that might be where I draw the line of like, this is our relationship, these are the promises we made in our marriage. Maybe that's an overshare. And like, I don't need to do that. I can't decide. Do you have thoughts? You didn't post yours. I didn't post mine for the reason that you said. I just thought the world of our vows and I cherish them. And I didn't want to invite anyone to like criticize or hear them.
who weren't invited to witness them when we gave them. Sure. Yeah. No, that makes total sense. I might post clips. Some of our vows is in our wedding video. Like that's what they use for the narration. So I'm sure too when you get your wedding video back, like they're going to be pulling like moments. I also think like there's something about being there and hearing someone's vows as versus like listening to them back when you're not when you're like sitting in your room by yourself in your bed and you're not like filled by this like aura of love that's having a wedding. Totally. You're just like weird word choice. But like, it was so special and beautiful. You know, totally, totally. No, I agree with you. Whatever you do, I need to support. Did you do anything that was not traditional? Would did something not traditional in his vows, but I thought it was very cute. He like spoke to the audience. Oh, but the the object, the object. See, like that, that clip, I would post. He turned to the audience and he was like, I need everyone's help. I know this isn't traditional, but you know, if Aubrey has made you feel special or loved in any sort of way, like please raise your hand and then he turned to me and he said, that's the Aubrey effect and I'm, you know, the one who gets the very best of it or something along those lines. And I thought it was a cute way to brick tradition, if you will. So cute. Not traditional. My brothers walked me down the aisle, obviously. We didn't do a first look, which like has now become tradition, but we didn't do it because I felt strongly about seeing each other the first time and we walked down the aisle. And I think in hindsight, it probably would have calmed a lot of my nerves before the ceremony if I had seen him before. Because all I was thinking was when I was freaking out, I was like, I just need to see wood and I'll feel better. But I also would never take back that moment of the blinds going up and me going holy fuck. Yeah. So cute. Also, wait, this makes me think of your first dance. Is literally was so good. The two of them are like could be on dancing with the stars. They have a little dancing energy. They came in to what I like about you. That was such a good song choice. They were dancing with each other, singing with each other. And then it went into a really magical first dance. This is my mom, Laney's favorite part of the wedding. She literally yesterday sent a video of the first dance to Aubrey and would have said, I keep watching this. It's been almost a month. I knew it was magical because Victoria's older brother texted me and was like, Hey, I just wanted to let you know, like this was the highlight of the whole weekend for me. And I was like, John, John. I didn't think it was like feeling things. I was like, no embarrassed. That's so cute. I didn't know he did that. My older brother was like, not very emotional. So the fact that he did that is crazy. Wait, you should put that on the internet because like it is incredible. That's so funny. See, I feel like when I watch it back, I'm like, I feel like everyone was like incaptured by the moments of love that like watching us with zero dance experience. Do it like it was so good in your song. What was the song again? I don't even know it. Higher ground by Odessa, but the reprise. Oh my gosh. It was so good. The two of them. It was like, no one else was in the room. Deadass. It was like, you guys were dancing by yourselves, which is what made it so special. And I will tell you guys, oh, this is so funny. We have to tell them about how you kept running away from the center of the dance floor to dance on the outskirts at your own wedding. Wait, you guys, no one tells you this, which obviously you notice when you go to other weddings. My biggest pet peeve is like people's eyes on me. And like, again, people like appeasing me because it's like my very big special day. And the second I walk into like a dance circle, the whole thing clears out and then I'm in the middle. I was like yelling at people like, please just keep dancing. I'm sort of part of the party. So I would just wouldn't I would just go to the outskirts. So I could just dance by myself. It's so true when a bride comes on the dance for everyone freaks out and they like make a circle and they start like clapping. And Aubrey's like, what are you all doing? It's so weird. It's so weird right now. Like it was so cute. I'd be like, where is Aubrey? And I'd look and her and would we're dancing in the corner. I will say, wouldn't I shine, I think, best on a wedding dance floor? That's where we peak as a couple. Outside of the ceremony, I thought I know that people tell you to do a first look so that you, you know, don't miss your cocktail hour, but I thought having that hour with him post ceremony was like so nice. I just need it. He like quells my brain like he calms it all down. So it's like having that time just the two of us to just like take pictures and have a drink and have a bite to eat without, you know, the chaos of the day was really nice. I love that. I think his arguments either way, you know, being at cocktail hour would have been fun too, but, you know, hot take. I don't know why I didn't want to be at their own cocktail hour. I cocktail our suck. You literally can't go anywhere without being pulled into a 20 minute conversation with Mr. Jones, the thirds, his cousins. You haven't seen like literally I just want to go get a margarita and I'm not even you on your wedding day and the people you run into the eye contact you make and it's so hard to like get out of conversations that if you're the bride and groom, like I can't even imagine. I also feel like I did that all at the welcome party the night before and like it was so fun at the welcome party. Like, I had nowhere else to be. I had nothing else to do. Sure. But like on my wedding day, I'm like I kind of just want to be with my brand spank and new husband. He's for an hour. Yeah, I've never been at a cocktail hour where I'm like, you know where I'm going to be right here. You know, it's either you don't know anyone at the wedding. So you're just standing there talking to your partner or you know too many people and you're like, I just, I really need to get to the bar right now. Was there anything that you really stressed over leading up to the wedding that ended up being fine and you're like, why did I hyper fixate on that? Wait, I haven't even posted about this. We checked the weather on what Monday, Monday or weddings on Saturday, the welcome party's Friday. Our venue is completely outdoor. There's no pivoting inside. There's no tent being rented and there was a 70% chance of rain.
And my planner called us. She was like, I just want to make you aware. I was like, Shannon, as if I haven't been hyper aware of this, of course. So I messaged Jazz, lovely Jazz, who's wedding went super viral. And she's famous for using an Etsy witch. And I messaged her and I was like, I'm going to need that witch. She responded within five seconds. Angel Queen. Love it. And I messaged the witch. And the witch was like, darling, we might be too late, but I'm going to do what I can. And I was like, do you do you? I was like, I'll pay double for two spells. It was $17, best $17 I've ever spent. Clear it up the next day. So yeah, I was a little stressed for a second. Okay, so Jazz, I didn't know that she did that too. You did that. And then my friend Sophie also paid an Etsy witch. And we were in Paris for her wedding. It was raining the whole time. The one most beautiful day in Paris was her wedding day. The Etsy witches, they know what they're doing. Pay a witch, pay a witch. It's not too pricey for the best day of your life. That's amazing. Anything else about the wedding, but you want to just share and talk about it. I don't know. All my bridesmaids were so great. It was the best day of my life. I feel so grateful and lucky. My mom's speech absolutely crushed it. Everyone was just good vibes and everyone had a very good time. So I will be forever grateful for that. Yay. Are you happy? I had a great time. Are you happy? Are you happy? Do you wish you were still in it? It's the type of thing that I'm so grateful that was such a fun year would never want to do it again. That was such a good one and done. I'm so happy to have my forever person. And so excited to celebrate all of my other friends getting engaged now with this knowledge. Yes. You know? Because I wish I had this knowledge when you were engaged. You crushed it. Even though we were literally children. Thank you, I was 12. Yeah. Lastly, I wanted to quickly talk about this because I think that we are able to. And it's cool because I think-- Oh. Yes. What? This is very important. Yeah. Max. And the day. Yes. I want to talk about this because I think weddings and funerals ruin relationships. They ruin friendships. They ruin sibling ships. I mean, it really can destroy relationships the way and that's out for everyone. And there are worse than people who are football people who were like, wait, a fall wedding. Like, how is Max going to be there? Because for anyone who knows Max's career, well, he's a college broadcaster. So every single weekend, he works. And he basically works 16 weekends a year. You don't miss calling a game in his business. If you miss calling a game, they might not book you for the season. The other guy might come in and call that game. And they say, we don't need you back. It's anyone who played competitive sports understands. You don't miss game. You don't miss practice. They don't care what it is. I don't want to spend 20 minutes on this. I was just like, five, but we can. Where should we start? You're like, I don't want to spend 20. I'm like, let's start with Robbie and Lizzie's wedding. And you decide, Matt should be our officiator. We weren't even engaged. Does that really get appropriate place? OK, yeah, let's just go. What I'll say on that is that the four of us were at a wedding sharing room. We recorded a real pot episode afterwards. And they had their friend officiate the wedding. And when I were standing there, we're like, Max has to officiate our wedding. We all agreed on it that weekend. We were not even close to being engaged at that point. And then fast forward, we're engaged. We find our wedding venue in Santa Barbara. You text us and you say, we found our wedding venue. We're so excited. And the date is October 11. And can I say something about the date? The ways we included my dad 21 is like my dad's special numbers. We were like, it's fate. It's supposed to be happening 10 plus 11, whatever. We're so stoked. We're set on the date mentally. So they send this to us. We're so excited. They go, we got the date. We go, what's the date? Aubrey texts October 11. I'm not kidding. The way that my heart fell into my ass. And then you guys followed up the numbers. I'm like, the fucking numbers. Awesome. And also can I say in woods in my defense, we did not have the awareness that we have now. Like we didn't know that it was like, you don't miss one. So yeah, which no, which is important context. So they send that and Max near at the airport. And we're like, at that point, he doesn't have his contract with ESPN. We don't know where he's working the next year. And if he gets a call from a big network saying we want you to call a game October 11, in his business with growth, you just can't say no. But then what are we left with him not attending and officiating the wedding of our best friends. It was such a pickle. And so honestly, I feel grateful that I had done like at that point, two years of therapy on like accepting things that are not the way that I wanted them to be because I had like all my tools in the toolbox. Max was like, I don't want to make any of this about me. We are not asking them to move their wedding. Like we're just going to have to pray and hope that like I can be there. So anyway, Aubrey and we were visiting us. So then we land and this is so funny because you thought I was being weird. And I was, I literally would walk in. I'm like, so excited. Vic and Max have already been to our venue because they spend the weekend there. I take two seconds to look in Vic's face. I was like, what, what's wrong with the venue? Why? What's it? Tell me now. She was like, no, no, no, it's great. I was like, you're not telling me. What are you not telling me? Aubrey literally can tell. Like you knew I have something was not right. But I didn't want to ruin their thunder. They're so happy that I was like, we need to let them have 24 hours of like thinking this is the best bliss. I'm like, oh my god. So when did you sign the contract? Like just trying to get information. They hadn't signed it. So I'm like, okay, we can let them be happy for a day. And then we can confront them. I was obviously going psycho like they need to move the date. And Max is like, we're not asking them to move the date. We're just going to tell them the situation. And then they can do what they want with that, but we just have to back off. And so anyways, we, from your perspective, describe when we saw you guys still. I don't even know what I thought was going to happen. Victoria literally was like, Max, I think it's time. Can you please turn your chair? Like, what the, and I'm like, holding onto what's hand? I was like, what do we do? What's going on? What's happening? And then they were like, there is a chance that because of Max's football schedule, you know, he won't be able to attend the wedding. I go into, I don't want anyone to do anything for me. I'm like, oh my god, Max, no, we totally understand. I go into like comforting Max. Max is like, okay, like, yeah, I know like people like feel differently about certain things. And then we kind of like end the conversation. Do you want to add anything about that conversation? I guess I'd say like, you went into like, it's not a big deal mode. And like, thinking that that would be like the smooth way for it. But then I guess for us feeling like it was such a big deal, it was viewed a little bit like, oh, they don't care if he's not there to jump onto your guy's side of things. You can look at this two different ways. I could see reasonable people being like, how could anything be more important than our wedding? No game. That would have been valid. So the fact that you guys even were like, we can understand his predicament. Totally. I want to give you guys credit on that. Thank you. Yeah. The conversation like ends and just like kind of tears up and she's like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like I don't care if he's there or not. I was like, wait, I thought I was being so feisty. I was like, rewind. It's all good. Did you say it's all good? I'm like, meanwhile, I've been losing sleep. Also, we knew there weren't any other dates in the fall. We got the last date in the fall. And it is a big ask to say to someone, you can't get married in the fall. It's like, okay, then they got to move their wedding up and they've got to speed up their engagement, their process of planning a wedding or they have to postpone it, which is like annoying. So it also is like, you know, we don't also feel good. There's not an obvious solution. And I remember you looked at me and you were like, would you have moved your wedding for wood? And I remember thinking like, I don't want to answer this because if I say yes, and I'm indirectly saying, and you need to do what I did, it was hard for me to think about like going to your wedding and not having max there. Not only because he's your guy's his best friend, but he's my husband. I mean, there's so many things. So anyways, I remember being like, I can't answer that, you know, but we were so eki for the so much to say people the way that Aubrey and I never got personal, it never was personal. It was always just like high level. Like, how can we both make this work because we can both see each other's sides? Definitely. And then you guys went home and I remember being so anxious about it. And the thing that closed the loop on it was like Aubrey and I were on a phone call. Are you sent me a long text after like a two day lol about like, Hey, I'm in a call. And I was like, and I had this huge relief because we rarely have ever gotten in little moments where it feels this way. And I hate it. I know. I would say a fight. And even it wasn't a fight, it was just like both of us had this had two different things that we needed. Like, you know what I mean? It was just like we couldn't we couldn't have open discourse and that's what was so challenging. But so then when Aubrey texted me to reopen the gates because Max was also it's also about Max in the sense that Max was like, do not call her, don't make her feel guilty. I will not be happy if they move it for me. So then when you texted me, I was like, okay, great. She's thinking about it. She cares about it. One final phone call and you were like, I'm going to call to see if we can move it up to like the very end of July or something, which made us feel super seen. And it made us feel love. Like the fact that you would do that because we did know how important the 10, 11 day was for you guys. So I remember you and I were on the phone and you were like, I already emailed her about like the last Saturday of July. And I said to you, that means so much to us that you would even do that. Like I want you to know that if she responds back and says they don't have it, like, that's okay. Aubrey did the most that she could do. And then on that call, we had said that we were like, okay, we agreed. You know, it is what it going to be what it is, you know, they emailed me. It's taken. And we were like, okay, okay, perfect. We did what we could. I met what I said when I said, you know, thank you for trying and we did move forward. And it was unknown for a variety of months, which was very scary. I did spend at least two therapy sessions pre coping ahead.
I had for being at your wedding without Max being there. And when I tell you guys, it was not even my brain. We didn't find a backup of officiant. Max and my brain was there, which, you know, manifest. Long story short, Max got his deal with ESPN and he was able to have a conversation about like the importance of the sweating and that it was kind of a family wedding and he was officiating and it's the one time ever, blah, blah. And it was all good. And so then we called you guys-- And it always is. Yeah, it always is. Then we called them four months. Four months before the wedding and said, Max, we'll be there. Yeah. And again, I was like, of course, you will. It was always going to be there. My mom said the same thing throughout the process. She was like, it always works out. It's going to be fine. But anyways, I thought it was important to talk about that because I don't feel like I'm being dramatic when I say friendships end over something like that. No, I don't think so either. I feel like friendships end for things much lighter than that. Totally. And we talk about weddings and recapping weddings. I thought that we had unique opportunity to share how we navigated a tough wedding thing. And navigated it with love and works through it. Because I think that-- We could always talk about it. It's more dumb because we couldn't jinx anything beforehand. Yeah. Oh my god. Could I easy? All right. This was fun. This is so fun. So fun. Oh my god, now we just get to literally kick back with fucking drinks and go on Natalie's bachelorette. We cannot wait. I cannot wait. No, literally. We're both married, done being made of honors. And we just get to bask in the treatment of celebrating Natalie. So fun. So fun. So fun. Can I be included on that kind of post-wedding ribbon? Of course. I want to be on it. Of course. I do need to have Natalie on at some point for her bridal situation. Wait, we have the New Year's episode coming up, the three of us. Yeah. OK, perfect. OK, well, I love you. This was so fun. And congratulations. I knew you'd get a full wedding. And I'll talk to you now in a minute. I'm going to turn off recording and we'll keep talking.
