Hi, I'm Tara Oaks in Liverpool. And I'm Christopher Walgesper in Chicago. It's Monday, October 26th. Today, what we learned from Anthropics, IPO filing. Lula wins another time as Brazil's president in comeback fashion. Venezuela's opposition leader, Maria Carina Machado, makes her way home. And France's Marine Le Pen launches a bid for president. This is Walter's World News, bringing you everything you need to know from the front lines in 10 minutes, 7 days a week. Anthropic has filed to go public, a revealing revenue of more than $16 billion in the first half of this year. That's up 1,400% from a year earlier. The growth is fueled by massive spending by big tech companies, but it's also raising concerns about the sky high valuations and rising debt in the industry. Anthropics IPO shows an $80 billion loss in the first half of 2026, and that's driven largely by the rising value of bonds that can be converted into companies shares. The filing has also flagged safety concerns as AI systems advance, Anthropic is expected to list on the Nasdaq in the coming weeks. Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have sent top officials to Tehran, the aim deescalating tensions in the region and preventing further military aggression. It'll be the first high-level talks between Iran and the three nations since the US and Israel launched attacks that have cascaded into a wider Middle East conflict. Egypt has now approved defense support for Saudi Arabia as Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis continue to launch attacks on the kingdom. Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey signed a mutual defense pact in August. We are no longer adversaries, I have to govern for 215 million people. That was Brazil's Luis Ignacio Lula de Silva's message last night, after he rallied to win the second round of the presidential elections. Flavio Bolsonaro's and all former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro seemed to be in pole position, winning just shy of 50% in the first round earlier this month. But the right-wing senator is so far refusing to concede, citing voting irregularities and promising to take "legal action" to earn the final results. It points to challenges ahead as Lula takes the reins for the fourth time, according to a reporter Oliver Griffin in São Paulo. The thing that seems to have propelled him to victory in this second round is the fact that there was a greater than expected voter turnout. The initial reaction from the senator, Flavio Bolsonaro, has been to reject the result tonight and he is saying that it is impossible to recognize these results with everything that happened. He is referring to an event where a Supreme Court judge extended voting by two hours across the country and including places where some polling stations had been shut through as the citing complaints by Lula's campaign over restrictions to public transport access to the voters. The key challenge for Lula in this term is definitely going to be the fact that he is going to be facing a very hostile congress in the vote on October 4th when Flavio actually came at the top of that vote. Congress members, so for the lower house of the senate, outperformed on the right, so he's not really going to be received with open arms by lots of those new law makers or reelected law makers going into his next four years. A political surprise in neighbouring Venezuela, too, where Maria Carina Machado returned home after nearly a year outside the country. crowds packed the streets to see her on the way to capital, Caracas. Machado, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last year, was prevented from challenging now deposed leader Nicolas Maduro for the presidency in 2024. She was first forced into hiding and then forced to flee the country. But with Maduro gone and a new U.S.-Pact leader in charge, Machado was able to return Sunday after several previous requests. With her return, many Venezuelans hope that she'll lead the country back to democracy. In Anadama, line the road in Lara State. He says he's declaring to the world that Machado will be the country's next president. To France now, where a far right leader, Marine Le Pen, has formally launched her campaign for president, after weeks of protest and unrest across France, which has been sparked by cost of living and inequality concerns, Le Pen and her National Rally party are promising to restore order and national confidence. Addressing a crowd of cheering supporters in Orlion, Le Pen's promising zero tolerance policing and pledging to restore border controls and crack down on gangs and drug traffickers. Le Pen leads recent opinion polls which show voters deserting mainstream parties in favor of more extreme candidates on both sides of the political spectrum. She was convicted of embezzling European Parliament funds in 2025, which barred her from running for French office for five years. An appeals court this summer upheld the conviction but shortened her sentence, allowing her to run in 2027. Celebrations in Serbia's Capitol Belgrade after a shock victory for a student-led political party over a long-term leader Alexander Foochich. He served as either president or prime minister since 2014. It's clear that we have lost these elections, he said, on Sunday. Students had led mass demonstrations against Foochich since 2024, protesting what they described as corruption and creeping authoritarianism. Belgrade resident, Sela Kupich, was one of tens of thousands of people cheering the result. But big questions remain about how the student-backed party will govern. Tonight is the annual Ballon Door Awards, which under the best men's and women's players in the game. And it'll be presented in London for the first time in its 70-year history. So if you look at the men's contenders, England, Captain Harry Kane, he enjoyed a remarkable season with Bayern Munich. And if you include his goals for club and country, he had 73 last season. It's almost peak, little messy, Christian or Ronaldo level when they were just collecting Ballon Door Awards for fun in the 2010s. If anyone's going to stop him, it's probably going to be Lamine Yamal. He spends teenage sensation. I think Killian and Bappi is your darkhouse for the Ballon Door.
