Alaska’s Decoy Candidate Linked to Dems & Bolsonaro Escapes To Miami | 10.29.26

A major political controversy in Alaska centers on allegations that the Democratic campaign orchestrated a "decoy" Dan Sullivan to manipulate voter perception and steal votes from Republican Dan Sullivan, prompting calls for accountability and investigations by the Justice Department. The Trump administration and Republican leaders have condemned the actions as a violation of election integrity, while the New York Times has reported on the campaign’s active recruitment efforts. This closely contested Senate race could significantly impact U.S. Senate control. Meanwhile, Brazil’s right-wing candidate Flavio Bolsonaro fled to the U.S. after being denied exit visas, sparking diplomatic tensions and raising concerns about U.S.-Brazil relations. In Spain, a tragic high-speed train collision killed at least 68 people, with officials citing a failure to follow automated safety protocols. Amid growing misinformation and legal suppression of truth, organizations like Alliance Defending Freedom are defending free speech, relying on public support. USAFacts promotes public data transparency, emphasizing that accessible, trustworthy information is essential for informed civic participation. (upbeat music) The Crucial Alaska Senate race is shaken by a bombshell report revealing the Democrat campaign did plant the so-called decoy Dan Sullivan to trick voters. Mary Keltola should resign from the race. I think she should be prosecuted criminally for what she did. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Executive Editor, John Bickley. It's Thursday, October 29th. And this is Morning Wire. Brazil's right wing presidential candidate flees to the US after a contested election. What does it mean for the US relationship with Brazil? And another horrific high speed train collision in Spain leaves almost 70 dead and officials searching for answers. Thanks for waking up with Morning Wire. Stay tuned, we have the news you need to know. Truth is under attack in our culture. People are embracing lies about gender. They're rejecting the sanctity of every human life. And the government is even punishing people for saying what is true and right. But the biblical principles on which our country was founded still matter and they must be defended. Alliance defending freedom is on the front lines of this fight. They're standing in courtrooms across the country upholding truth and your right to speak it. But they rely on help from friends like you to do this work. Your gift to ADF will be matched by a special grant while funds last. In a bombshell report, it's been revealed that the second candidate named Dan Sullivan in the Alaska Senate race is a plant arranged by the Democrat party. That's a charge they've been denying for months. The Trump administration, which has sued the state over the inclusion of the trick candidate, says this is out of bounds and undermines the voting process in the state. - Here to explain his White House correspondent, Mary Margaret Olehann. So Mary Margaret, there's been a lot of denial from Democrats over the past few months that this second Dan Sullivan was a trick to take votes away from Republican Dan Sullivan. Now we seem to have confirmation otherwise. So let's start with that. What is the documented link between Decoy Dan and the Democrats candidate, Mary Peltola? - Well, first of all, we just really can't underestimate what a massive story this is and what a huge deal Alaska is when it comes to this next election. I mean, Alaska Senate race could really determine the control of the United States Senate. And so I've had plenty of people tell me up there and back here in the swamp that there's a lot on the line when it comes to this Alaska election. From what we're learning is that Mary Peltola's campaign was actively involved in literally going out and finding another Dan Sullivan to confuse voters so that they wouldn't vote for the Republican on the ballot. And that's what the New York Times reported just yesterday morning. They revealed that in the summer of 2025, a staffer for Mary Peltola received special instructions from top campaign aides to literally find as many people named Dan Sullivan and Alaska as they could. And that plan worked and that's the crocs of this New York Times story. And everyone now is saying that the Democrats and Mary Peltola in Alaska are trying to rig this election. As we said at the top, the Democrats have been denying any involvement in this. Now we have this revealed. And this is a really close race, correct? How close is this? Yeah, this is a really close race. Some polls have Mary Peltola ahead. There's a few that have Dan Sullivan really neck and neck with her. And so Republicans have known for some time that this is a really close one. President Donald Trump went up to Alaska only a few weeks ago. I went up there with JD Vance about a week before that. So now we have the Mary Peltola campaign literally telling me in the daily wire that it's not true. The shoes involved are trying to get this second Dan Sullivan candidate on the ballot. But we also have this reporting showing from one of the most liberal legacy outlets there is that that is in fact not true. So we got the president now really speaking out against this. We got senators calling for the fake dance Sullivan to withdraw from the ballot. So it's going to be an exciting week to see what actually happens on this front. And if this decoy Dan takes even a percent or two away from the real Dan Sullivan, I mean, that could be the whole game. Is this trick fair game or like the Trump administration says really a bridge too far, maybe even illegal? Well, on the Mary Peltola campaign we'll tell you that Republicans have a long history of trying to do the same thing. But I think what makes this situation really unique is that the Peltola campaign was actively involved in getting this guy recruited. I mean, if you read The New York Times story, they will tell you that it was campaign officials who were working with these Democrat party officials to literally recruit Dan Sullivan's all over the state. And the Justice Department had already begun an investigation into this. So the DOJ is very hesitant to comment on active investigations. But they had already started this investigation. And now they have even more information from this New York Times story. And that's something I actually wanted to point out too John and Georgia because The New York Times doesn't typically report on Democrat candidates in such a aggressive and unfavorable manner. Now I'm sure many of my colleagues in the legacy media would push back on this and say The New York Times would report on this type of story. But I would argue that this is a type of story that The New York Times doesn't report unless they know it's going to come out from someone else. And so we are here at the end of a long haul. This is a massive story. It kind of remains to be seen whether Dan Sullivan, the real one, will make hey, well, the sun shines and take advantage of it. Or whether this message won't even reach a leskin voters that this is what was going on the whole time. Well, a crucial seat, a lot riding on this race. Mary Margaret, thanks for reporting. Thanks for having me. Here's an interesting health story. There's been growing research around weight cycling, the familiar pattern of losing weight, gaining it back, then starting the whole process over again, or fluctuating as many refer to it. And frankly, you don't need a study to tell you how frustrating that can be. You clean out the pantry, you swear off dessert, you lose some weight. In the aftermath of Brazil's election, right-wing candidate Flavio Bolsonaro fled to Miami after the Lula regime canceled his passport and launched an investigation into him. Here to tell us why is our DC Bureau Chief Tim Rice? So Tim, before we get into this, can you broadly lay out the political landscape in Brazil? What did Bolsonaro run on and what about his opponent? - Absolutely. So Lula as the current and still the newly reelected president of Brazil is known. It's a shortened version of a much longer name. Is a real diet in the world socialist, right? We talk a lot about democratic socialism or socialist hinged things here in the United States, but Lula is a socialist. And so during his term, he has nationalized industries. He has increased government control. He has increased government rationing. And it's had pretty deleterious effects on the Brazilian economy. So Flavio Bolsonaro, son of Jair Bolsonaro, the president whom Lula defeated a few years ago, ran on reversing that, ran on essentially making Brazil great again, on restoring power to private enterprise, individual liberties. We're rolling back some of these government takeovers and nationalization efforts. And it was an incredibly popular campaign. He won his nomination by a large margin. Other members of the Bolsonaro family were elected to Brazil's, Brazil's the Brazilian Congress. So it was a real ground swell of support for the Bolsonaro's. And the election itself was very close, but ultimately did come down in favor of Lula reelection. - Right, as you said, his family very popular and all the signs pointing to a win by Flavio that's not what happened. this brings us.
us to his arrival in Miami. What happened there? Yes, shortly after a day or so after the election was called, the Brazilian government ordered Flavio Bolsonaro to turn over his and his family's passports and banned him from leaving the country. Now, this is because of his alleged ties to sports gambling companies and some Brazilian financier who himself is under investigation for some kind of financial malfeasance. But the Bolsonaro's and their supporters say that this is political persecution and its retribution for their family running against Lula. Now, remember, Jair Bolsonaro is currently serving a 27 year sentence in Brazil under house arrest. He was supposed to be in prison for what most people, certainly in Brazil and in the United States, deem at trumped up charges, trumped up by the Lula administration after Bolsonaro's defeat. The Brazilian Supreme Court, Bolsonaro himself had fled to Miami until the Brazilian Supreme Court agreed to let him serve out his 27 year sentence at home, at which point he returned to Brazil. Not wanting to take the same risk, Flavio Bolsonaro, his wife and their two daughters a few days ago left Brazil and fled to Miami by way of Argentina. We're still not entirely sure how they got out. The Brazilian customs agency does not have a record of them leaving. The Argentine customs agency does not have a record of them entering, although Argentina somewhat strangely has said that they entered the country and passed it illegally. They went from Brazil to Argentina by van and then they flew to Miami where they were granted asylum by the United States government at the order of President Trump, who has sort of tried to stay out of the Brazilian politics, but did go out of his way to say that he thought that the election was rigged that he didn't like the results and that he thought the Bolsonaro and the whole Bolsonaro family were good people. Now, you mentioned that President Trump wanted to stay out of this somewhat. What are the broader implications of harboring the Bolsonaro's in the US? How will this affect US relations with Brazil? Yeah, it certainly is going to sour them, Georgia, and it's going to mean that the remainder of President Trump's term and the beginning of Lula's second term is going to be, because however long those overlap is going to be considerably more aggressive and unfriendly than it has been in the past. This comes in a moment when the United States at the direction of President Trump and certainly Secretary of State Marco Rubio are taking a renewed interest in the Southern hemisphere, right? Marco Rubio has been talking about bringing democracy back to Cuba. Many people think he's hinting at regime change. President Trump has obviously from the beginning been very closely aligned with Millay in Argentina and Millay himself is very aligned not just with the President, but with a lot of political and economic conservatives in the United States. So I really think that the the waning two years of the Trump administration, the lame duck years, we can expect to see a lot more action in South America. This is a thing where if a Bolsonaro was running Brazil, we could have expected Brazil and neighboring Argentina to be two of our biggest allies in terms of, you know, troop positioning, resources, collaboration. Now, not only do we not have an ally in this massive South American land mass, we have a country led by a president who is actively antagonistic to President Trump and in a lot of ways to the American way of life. Now, fascinated to see where this goes next. Tim, thanks so much for coming on anytime, guys. A high speed train collision in Spain yesterday derailed two train cars sending dozens to the hospitals and killing at least 68 people here with the story is daily wire contributor, Tim Pierce. So Tim, an absolutely horrific accident in Spain. What do we know about what happened? Right. This is Spain's second collision and third major rail accident this year, which should have spaniards raising some pretty serious questions about rail safety. On Wednesday, a high speed passenger train plowed into the back of another train that was stopped on the tracks. The moving train was operated by Spain's national rail company Renfei and was carrying about 400 passengers. Officials said it could have been moving as fast as 120 miles per hour before the impact. The train at hit was a private commuter rail carrying about 150 passengers operated by the company Ereo. According to Spain's Transportation Minister, the wreck happened after traffic control operators made what he called an inexplicable decision telling the Renfei train to keep moving after the automatic train control system went down. Dozens are now dead because of that decision and many more are still missing. The wreckage afterward is frankly a horror. The collision cratered the nose of the Renfei train. The last two cars of the Ereo train were blown off the tracks and overturned and a third car was derailed. Now, what are we hearing from people who were there? Yes, of now at least 58 people are in the hospital and we know from the US State Department that some Americans were actually on board the trains as well. Oh, it's not clear how many. Florida Media report that a Jacksonville firefighter and his wife, who is a nurse, were on board one of the trains and they actually helped treat people after the collision. But interviews from after the crash described something awful. One passenger on the moving train said he felt the train abruptly slowed down. The train car, quote, leaned to one side like it was about to tip over everything when flying luggage cell phones, everything shook. Some report people flying in the air upon impact as of this recording rescue efforts in search of missing passengers are still underway. Oh my gosh. And as you said, this is the second deadly train collision this year in Spain. What is the government's response been to this? Well, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that the causes of both crashes are unrelated. Although they did take place on the same route between Madrid and Seville and involve the same carriers, the first collision in January happened after the tail of an aerial train derailed and cross the tracks in front of a Renfe train that was going the opposite direction. Sanchez stressed that an investigation into this particular crash is underway and that he plans to address any issues that are found. In the meantime, he's announced a three-day national time of mourning. So two mass casualty events in the same year affecting the same carriers on the same route that is absolutely stunning. Clearly, some things need to be done. Tim, thanks for reporting. Thanks for having me on. Thanks for waking up with us. Plus, some exciting news.
